"But again, the way he played against Washington no turnovers made good throws, gave receivers opportunities his footwork is really good. Daniel Jones looked comfortable and confident in his offense. He knew exactly where to go with the football every single play. And it just he knows as offense really well. It's a big deal. Like his comfort level was an all time high against Washington. And again, if he can do that every single week, I don't know, man, another thought. I love the way Daniel Jones runs his own read. It's very cool that Jay-Z and Garrett the offensive coordinator has stuck with it. It keeps calling it. Because he's great at it. I mean, he had this, what do you have? He ran 9 times for 95 yards and a touchdown Daniel Jones was a leading rusher for the Giants last night. That's awesome. I love seeing that. And to be clear, another exciting fact that it feels almost like a victory in and of itself, is that Daniel Jones was not the reason why the Giants lost. Like, oh, hallelujah. Can you believe it? Dude made a lot of good throws, and he deserves praise. He had a really good game last night, and I understand anybody who wants to give up on Daniel Jones. I've been that guy for a long time, 'cause I realize his potential, a long time ago, this guy doesn't have the potential to I think everybody at top 5 quarterback. But if he does what he did last night, consistently, the rest of the year, I have an open mind. That's good enough. That's enough. Now, the leash is very short. You ever seen a airplane Mario? Like Mario 64, where if you get close to the bob on guys, they chase you when they explode. The fuse is really, really short, kind of like one of those guys in Mario 64 where, hey, if Daniel Jones gets even close to the edge of being a bad quarterback, I'm out. I have no patience for the guy. But if he plays good and consistent like he did like that, all year long, I got patients for that. By the way, weird thought I also really liked the all blue sock, cleat combo. We had it looked really clean down low. That's a good look. It made him look faster, which is weird, but it's true. And I just, I don't know. I just think that Daniel Jones deserves hate when he earns it. But last night, there's no reason today, Daniel Jones. In fact, he did nothing wrong to earn a loss last night. Now the final thing is from this game, we're two in games into the NFL season and I'm ready to believe that this Washington defense is overhyped. They had a hard time getting pressure on Daniel Jones. I expected it to be like the Arizona Cardinals Tennessee Titans game from week one where they just got pressure constantly and were harassing Daniel Jones all night. That didn't happen. Washington's pass rush did not dominate like I expected. And by the way, that's two weeks in a row. They've been ineffective getting after a quarterback. And also the Giants offensive line is not good. They should not be having trouble getting pressure after Daniel Jones, like they did on Thursday night. And during my predictions for the Washington football team, I asked a couple of questions..
Giants’ Saquon Barkley to Be Activated, Return to Practice
"Saquon. Barkley is returning to practice monday for the first time since tearing his acl in week two of last season he participated individual drills and teaching sessions without any issues. He said he's hopeful that he'll be ready for the season opener next month The giants are taking it. Slow obviously with his return and monitoring him closely. This is really good. News for the giants. I maintained saquon. Barkley is the engine of this team. He he is the face of this team. Obviously you wanna see what daniel jones grow into that role but right now. Saquon is a certified star for that team and he is extremely
Wild Giants Brawl Involving Daniel Jones Causes Joe Judge to Explode
"You see this thread. That ralph fach. Yano had about giants practice today. Greg what is going on over there and like joe. J- judge it's makes these guys run sprints like he's her brooks like. I've never seen anything like it. I am amazed by that. He made them run sprints after an all out on the field and not just a fight. 'cause you know those. Those happened almost all training camps. Some some coaches have it pretty locked down where you really are aren't allowed to do it But that happens but this one supposedly had like twenty people in it and daniel jones. Your quarterback is is at the bottom and then yeah you're punishing them by by running around the field like it's a fine line where whether you're gonna keep your players Engaged with that kind of attitude this joke judge and it looks like a team you know when when that does happen that he doesn't have a so go to the amount of control and that's what he's looking for.

"To think you're right about that. Steve hey if you know. Obviously everybody's got their fingers crossed. You hope that things go. Well you hope that that daniel jones steps up it. You're absolutely right. I think that so much of how the giants season goes. It is in the hands of daniel jones but in in your mind thinking ahead. What happens if it doesn't go well. What happens if he doesn't make that step. What happens if the giants are six or seven win. Team are are the giants not only looking for another quarterback maybe another offensive coordinator. They also looking for a new gm at that point to absolutely. Yeah i believe they are. I believe this is a critical year for dave gettleman as well because he could is legacy on the line with daniel generals now. I didn't agree with the pig. At number six i was. I was couvert along when he was a rookie But versus the guy and this is the guy that everybody in the organization believes on but if daniel jones isn't the guy than i think you're gonna see their annual luck. David gilman ahead out to cape cod. He'll they'll steph down pedestrian negative I i don't think that's going to happen. I think daniel jones is going to restore fate in the quarterback position with the new york giants. I i love. I think daniel jones what it takes and i just i if if he feels shame on him because he's got all the weapons you need and and say return is just huge. But they've got to be right about the office of wide left the cake. That'd be right about the office of why and they believe they would. You know we'll see about that Remember also the defense with patrick graham. Keep the game close for daniel jones dewitt so daniel jones has to be at his best in the fourth. The way you. I manning always was over two years and i'm looking for a breakout year. I was looking for last year from lorenzo carter. What are you thinking.
Dallas Cowboys Reach Multi-Year Deal With Star Quarterback Dak Prescott
"Salary cabin number for two thousand and twenty one is going to be twenty two point two million dollars all right now. Head dak prescott. In franchise tag again this will happen in a procedural sense but had to cow tried to go at this with dak prescott on the franchise tag for the two thousand and twenty one season. We've talked about this a number of times. That value would have been thirty. Seven point seven million dollars so the fact that the cow is now have him onto the books. We're talking about the value that is on the books in the books. However you want to look at the books whether they're e books or physical books whatever the case may be that value is now twenty two point two million dollars now. I know that we have all said some things about the dallas cowboys but they are not complete dummies. They surely budgeted for the franchise tag value. Because let's be honest. They came about twenty four hours. We think you know. Close to having the actually placed the franchise tag and maybe carried out with that prescott. So the cowboys have room for the franchise tag at the very least so you look at that quake matt that adam schefter was kind enough to do for you. That is fifteen point. Five million dollars that the dallas cowboys suddenly have because they've got this long term deal with that prescott. This is something that we've been saying for two years now. If you do this you can. You can kick this down the road. You can prorate it you can extended you can whatever term you want to put on it. You can spread the impact of the deal out of the signing bonus of the overall guaranteed money out over the lives of the contract so it doesn't hit you all at once. That's the one killer about the franchise tag is that it is fully and completely guaranteed in franchise tag is a one year deal so the value of it last year and dak prescott was on the tag for thirty one point. Four million dollars. The two thousand twenty dallas cowboys had to absorb that value all at once and they would have had to have done it again. Here in two thousand and twenty one but because they have adjusted that they now have fifteen and a half million dollars that they were seemingly budgeting for dak prescott that now they can apply to different areas. Maybe it is a safety. Maybe it's a defensive end. Maybe it's a defensive tackle. Maybe it's you know an offensive tackle. But they want swing tackled death whatever the case may be. We know that the cowboys obviously hold the tenth overall. Pick in the draft. They could go a number of different directions there. They wanna cornerback kayla farther patrick's retain do wanna take one of the tackles and rashawn slater as all this is. This is setting up and this is an important thing. I want you to hear me here and watch me here. You cannot waste this money. If dallas cowboys the whole point and getting this done with thac prescott besides obviously establishing having the best player on your team for the foreseeable future the point in doing this is to alleviate the salary cap space now. And i don't like the term when now if you watch us often you know that but you look state of the nfc east. It is by sudha. I mean the philadelphia. Eagles are a disaster. The new york giants doping daniel jones is legitimate. The washington football team has a great team but is void of the most important position of the game and a quarterback. Maybe they'd get somebody this cycle as we all expect quarterbacks to change teams at a higher rate than usual but the case in point is at the dallas cowboys are now. We're going to see this all day on tuesday by the way and we'll talk about it of course but they're going to be overwhelming favorites to win the nfc streit and you think about the conference that they plan is really a contender in the nfc. And i mean that with all due respect to the reigning champion tampa bay buccaneers. But you've got the bucks you've got the green bay packers and then who scares you. May maybe the rams you believe in matthew stafford but the point is thinking about the afc. I mean the. Afc has the bills and the ravens and the chiefs and the titans and the steelers and the browns. I mean you could go. A number of different ways. Did the colts have carson. Wentz ends up getting his act together and so the cowboys play in the weakest division in the weaker conference and so now they have this opportunity to really kind of take their future in the here and now they have fifteen and a half million dollars that they weren't necessarily planning on having use it and if they don't use it it is all for not so i mean we are all imploring the dallas cowboys to ultimately use this salary cap space. This is a very very very luxurious gift. That they now have been afforded that they didn't previously have so shattered of course to the dallas cowboys. Let's see here let's move. I'm i wanna talk of course about the bonus the dak prescott because well. It's stupid large. I mean it's amazing. Dak prescott has now the largest signing bonus in the nfl. You look at joe flacco. Once upon a time. Got forty million. Dollars matt ryan forty six and a half. Remember if you're on the fence about this value. We've talked about this before as well. Matt ryan became the first quarterback in nfl history to average over. He had thirty but to average at least thirty million dollars per year with his new contract that he signed with the atlanta falcons in two thousand and eighteen. That was three years ago. Dak prescott signed a four six year. Deal whatever you wanna call it. That was three years ago. They matt ryan signed that he was the first quarterback to hit the thirty million dollars a year. Mark prescott just hit forty but the reality and we've been saying this forever is that there are so many deals coming around the bend. Josh allens gotta get paid. Lamar jackson's gotta get paid. Baker mayfield's got to get paid extra calories. He's going to get paid the year after that. It's going to be time for joe burrow to finally get paid and when all of those players get paid this forty million dollars a year. Mark the dak prescott got this one hundred twenty six million dollar. Total guaranteed is sixty six million dollar signing bonus all these things that are currently the top of the nfl. The most in nfl history. That's the verbiage in determining that you're hearing associated with this and it's all literally true but it's all going to get pushed down because all of these players on this list. Joe flacco matt ryan matthew stafford at fifty million signing bonus. Aaron rodgers fifty. Seven and a half russell wilson not going to be a dallas cowboy now by the way sixty five million dollars. Dak prescott topped that all of these quarterbacks in all likelihood we'll top that that's the reality of the nfl things are always moving in one direction. It is up

"Business with me because you touched on the intro. when I look it is it just gives me mad at a gentleman then it doesn't to me doesn't know because he had a great game this race all the mistakes he made course number one. also agree I think the giants again the seventeen states six for this. about that now it is. he's your quarterback with the way he played a one because Sir where I drafted. this will point you to share that with what you got back be sure the sun deck made the show so del mejor all that money if they would assure that the defense of the report Collins that you had enough money to go out and get a couple of defensive free agents and they're still directed some young the defensive players in the draft imagine that a set this up put on their needs a whole saying it but he's he's a pretty much being in he showed me that he could play at this level and that's we want to see listen that's what he's working here should be about you're totally spot on general things done a deplorable job with this roster. there's no getting around it however rob however the V. eight son Daniel Jones and Daniel Jones ends up being the next heir apparent at the quarterback position right it'll make the last two years a lot easier to digest all I don't know what's happening moving forward I'll go with the mismanagement of the roster is going to continue because that will reach a point we have a talented quarterback in there's just nothing around him to sell. saying that gentleman's job performance can be all we got a quarterback status quo I can continue to build the crappy roster no no no no no no you can't have corners what a position you can have a pass rush that has no chance of getting the word quarterback right. it usually starts in the NFL rob with quarterback and when you know that hi everything else kinda seems to fit the perfect place then the thing you had on that I think is totally fair. Daniel Jones in his four stored as New York Giants quarterback and again we're not talking about two thousand eleven you I'm learning with talking about the evil eye we've seen over the last five years right that is capability we have no no in the pocket a pull the please that were made in order. you are a man could do that. I mean the guy with the two touchdowns I mean he lives at seven touchdowns in fifteen sixteen years. so yeah that that's the big difference in just one more thing real quick Jack rabbit needs to stay off flooded out the newspaper to give interviews because last week he threw his offensive line on the bus and he got absolutely torched.

Daniel Jones is gonna well that Tampa Bay at this weekend I actually agree with you I have a weird feeling that that that Arians is gonna game plan per se Kwan Barkley and that this new kid this rookie is going to carve up the Bucks secondary in single coverage and the giants are going to beat the Buccaneers a bring back down to earth nope. you agree I know you do that Daniel Jones breaks his leg hello in the second quarter goodness I thought premonition it not wishing for it but hello. "For that long is that Daniel Jones steps in and become the starting quarterback Daniel Jones not the guy replacing the light we see that with head coach is right I mean Daniel does is it would be a poor man's Eli manning so because that's not who we as he has one choice and that's to be Daniel's arms I think that's a great point but also I think it's fair to say he wants to be respectful which is tone wise I bet he like hail on Blair this press conference almost but yeah I would think so. it has to be uncomfortable for the key it and hopefully him being on the field as a safe haven usually as football players when you thrust into a role like this your responsibility is strictly would you say the thing that I like what do you say it was my teammates my coaches with in the building we prepare and we get ready to play a game for that's how you insulate yourself from everything that we're talking about yeah outside of the situation with that being stated. this is this is so uncomfortable for Ricky right that's not coming into replacing guys that they've been cycle in Peru or if you would the Jacksonville and they've never really. has been the face of the franchise for New York City in sixteen years or so hopefully what you want what you think and what government talked about what Pat Shurmur talked about was not only his ability to play the game but his maturity level and and and let me remind people Cutcliffe coast to coast am in college and he teaches and and and treats these guys like adults yeah like like like quarterbacks that are in the in the field so hopefully all the preparation got him ready for all those things that's going to take place what was going on outside of the facility but that needs to be as focused as his teammates his coaches to get rid of one of their. to keep busy yeah I think I I see an authentic guy I think he's great himself I don't I to me this is going to move on quickly. he won quickly it might but if the giants aren't improving. what's going to happen. the problem is you replace the quarterback what does that make him a better team if you look at Las Vegas the quick answer is no from the daily wager our doctors area they are that's the big story no news is news right all the point spread on change following the change from Eli manning the Daniel Johnson makes sense look elize obviously a name is likely had the whole thing what is a thirty eight year old was not look good he's a statue here comes Daniel Jones was looking pretty good All Things Considered in the preseason there has been no line movement see I'm fascinated by that so let me ask you this as a guy wants is what do you think the giants are better or worse or nothing with it with the quarterback is not so much better or worse it's his first start I expect problems I expect a shoes I know coach tells me look on the positive side but look a Manila folder and so on the road I'm thinking Hey it's going to be a rocky start you got a bet on that it also comes down the key numbers this is for all sort of quarterback it's the line was six and a half so if you go to seven the wise guys will definitely take the underdog because then you have to have a second score to lose it is such a key number so when we talk about and it goes to six maybe there that so right now that was just the the the new wants component of all this odds making but also if I wasn't playing well it's not like that's true no it's it's a good point I would just think that there might be a correct I just think that the two are compatible she talked to when I was mayor thinks a line going to come down because giants were thought of to be a bet on team early in the season that they weren't as bad as they look last year because they shored up their offense of line issues which they did it's just their defense has been so leaking in the secondary so I think the lines actually come down before kick off on Sunday. see what happens with that as Daniel Jones takes over for the giants sports center all night ESPN radio you lie manning. may or may not be done in New York. what about Carolina Panthers quarterback cam Newton is what our Paul Finebaum had to say we're not watching the beginning of the end it is the end it's over for candor and I don't know why we are mincing words and trying to find a pretty way.

"Is to get Daniel Jones experience eleven start getting himself into the game then your knowledge and that this isn't going to be a very good team did you learn something in the next two weeks the rest of us all didn't already know. you've tuned into different objectives there were two different objectives coming into this season objective one would have been protect your team. put yourself in a situation where your team doesn't have to deal with the rookie starting quarterback and you can be the best version whatever that might be of the giants you can be the other side of it is protecting young quarterback. Daniel Jones in the best situation to be the best Daniel Jones he can be moving forward I've heard so much so much conversation about what you got to start it now because you're under the rookie contract all the clock is ticking. really so we just decided that absolutely without a doubt the best way the only way to improve your quarterback on the rookie contract is to make him play right away because he needs us wraps oh my god he needs those wraps. the future hall of Famer Patrick homes. look we can make an argument for starting a quarterback we can make an argument against turning a corner back when they're young I said it yesterday I went to their car as a raiders fan start intent but you know what I feel good when they when they finally got that first win when the one in ten thanks she's I remember that moment when they finally got off the snide I still feel good why because I watched a young quarterback that I believed in their car. and I understand that logic if you're trying to get Daniel Jones out there and give your fan base some hope. give your organizations and we'll get a chance to see the kid play fine. those are all great arguments for why Daniel John should start at some point. the problems are dining started midway through the season fine okay he's had more time to work with a coach is more time to develop he's better situated today than it was and I can hear all the arguments. I'm fine with that what do we say. it just doesn't make any sense now so we'll come back and say no it makes total sense because of their schedule you let him get it the Buccaneers in the red skins before he has to take on the Vikings and the patriots. maybe. we just we just presume that suddenly he's going to come in and have an easier time with the Buccaneers a Redskins I mean this is a bad giants defense a bad giants offense of line in a team that doesn't have any weapons. I said it last week some traditions gonna be weekly right take one's gonna get his he's gonna get that he's going to do fine. and the crowds going to boot we lie we could see that coming is the weekly tradition. you know it just doesn't when you look across the board and you try and figure out why now. how many agree I'm agree with Ryan Clark he was on NFL live right Clark and I agree in on this. you talked yesterday about starting the season with the land this is what he said David Jones so that he can play in this league and that he has the goods and that's the reason you drafted him at number six allowing you lie to play two games and now making this decision has done nothing but waste our time waste the giants time and you lie many times time for David Jones to play in this was the right time to do it since you didn't make the decision before the season well see rhymes right about everything up to the very end. I mean if you want to try and justify and that's part of what happens here. Pat Shurmur got a look around and justifies job right because now he's playing not just for wins and losses which right wing always has to wins losses not a quarterback stat well we're not playing for wins and losses anymore for the giants right. I mean it this point for the giants Pat Shurmur is playing for Hey I can develop this kit we can do great things around this kit and I understand that. I don't understand doing it now. thank you Doug yourself in when you started the season and what you've done is now you basically cut Eli manning off at the knees and you've given over to Daniel Johns any danger Jones isn't ready. Daniel Jones isn't ready for this moment. and gets crushed in the process what are you done to Daniel Jones what have you done to your team because you certainly can't go back to Eli. you certainly can't go back ESPN radio presented by progressive insurance pick from a range of coverage options with the name your price tool to find a price that works for you the flip side of it is maybe Daniel Jones comes in and tears it up he's absolutely phenomenal and if that's the case I think it's a fair question to ask what the heck happened in the last fourteen days that suddenly change the trajectory of Daniel child he was almost ready he was fourteen days away from being ready. come on. we knew the wheels were gonna fall off on this giant seem you knew the wheels were going to fall off on this giant seem. and we all knew that this was going to happen. so the question was never if it was when but if the only question is when then when it happens it's a fair follow object to ask the question why now I can't see what could be changed in the last fourteen days and if the giants are getting it right by putting Daniel Jones in I at least want to acknowledge that they got it wrong by not having him in from the get go. first and last on ESPN radio this question in a rage all day long and it starts and ends because the legacy of Eli manning we argued about it we're gonna bring that argument to you is he lying manning hall of Famer we've got some very differing opinions on this show you'll hear next and we'll get your thoughts as far as the last on ESPN radio on Jason fits..

"Daniel Jones on on the rich Eisen show. So your drafting into New York City. Got him on the general manager giant said it took three snaps at the senior bowl to fall in love with you. Were you aware of those three snaps? Daniel at the time. No, I'm I'm not sure what what three snaps. They were. But yeah, I mean, I think throughout the process, getting to know Mr. cattleman coach Shurmur, everyone here with the giants organization. I, I certainly, you know felt felt like you know, those meetings, were well, I really enjoyed the, you know, the opportunity to get to know those guys and, and, you know, glad it worked out the way then. Yeah. And your relationship with ally manning. How would you describe that so far Daniel, I'm I think it's been I think it's been great. You know to have the opportunity to be sitting next to him in meetings and, and hearing, you know, the things he's thinking about, you know, after practice before practice and kinda just his routine. I think is a is an awesome opportunity. And he's been you know, he's been awesome so far. So I mean it's been great. And, you know, I think we've got a great quarterback. Room with with, you know, Kyle and Alex as well. So you know, we're all we're all helping each other and trying to we can to, to win some football games. So how much bring picking are you doing? A good bit. I mean, I think, you know, I think I'd be, you know, I think it'd be making mistake if I if I didn't take advantage of that. So, you know, he's been he's been very helpful to me, and I'm certainly, you know, not, not shot, ask questions when something comes up. Well, what can you give me a one item so far, that ally manning has volunteered to you over the first few weeks of working out with him? And being a teammate with him that has been helpful for your maturation and development, Daniel Jones. Yeah. I mean, I think a big part of it is the is the pre practice routine, and, you know, kind of getting the script and kind of rehearsing those situations in your head. And making sure you're you've gone up the place and you're clear on what you know what is you're going to be running. And, you know, all the variations of all the media judgments within the play that you need to make. I mean, I think just kinda pretty practice routine of, of preparation and, and how to approach, you know, these. These spring practices so far. It's been helpful and just trying to. Yeah, I definitely learned a lot from that. And the way he's prepared and kind of how he gets ready for practice. Sure. And then, you know, I'm not telling you tells out of school, you're clearly smart guy, going to Duke and you have two ears. I mean, the, the reaction has has not been all positive to you're drafting in New York. And here you are being drafted, you can't control any of that. What, what, how have you dealt with that from hearing it for the first time to currently right now, Daniel, yeah? I mean, I think it's. You know, I certainly don't pay a whole lot of attention to it. But, but like you said, I mean, I think, you know, you're aware of it, and, you know, I'm focused on what on what we're doing here and focused on, on trying to, you know, trying to practice as well. They could these past six weeks and you know, show some progress, you know, over these six weeks. So I mean at the at the end of the day, I'm, I'm, you know, grateful to be part of this franchise this opportunity, and, you know, we're looking forward to, you know, keeping keeping going we'll ever could quarterback. I've met Daniels a control freak and then deep down. A competitor a real red ask competitor..

"I feel for this kid man. He has yet to play a down did anything to play down and everybody is down on him because he didn't have remarkable numbers at Duke, and Dave Brown who crapped out as giants quarterback or I shouldn't say that he didn't succeed is giants quarterback when they chose him and his supplemental draft using a first round selection use them into supplemental draft years ago. He went to Duke, several is making those connections. All these giants fans that thought Dwayne Haskins was better and they should have drafted him. This kid from Duke hasn't played it down yet. And he looks lucky lie manning. He's as tall as him they have the same similar facial expressions. The minute that Daniel Jones was shooting up, radar screens. I'm like, we gotta get him on the show. We will finally do so today in our next segment prior to which Albert brewer is going to join us on the show. Albert's. One of the reasons why we're having them on, because he said his social media, blazed, it sure. Did he Instagram to photograph of his of a kids trophy snapped in half on his Instagram account and tweeted to it as well? Found out my kid got participation trophy had to be done hashtag play like a champion. Hashtag father of the year. There is the, the, the base of the, of the trophy on the left with the legs of what appeared to be like mister met living fan. The legs are still attached to the base. But the baseball with the smiley face on the baseball part of the body is resting, but looks like in the same ashtray or some sort of data dish that. I'm sure he's wife picked out now. We know Albert very well. We know Albert's social media feeds very well. Do you think he actually snapped Detroit? I don't think he was rolling on it. I think I think he's given his two cents on what he thought of the trophy. Right. But did not snap it himself. Exactly he knew what he was getting into yesterday. Well, we're gonna find out because he's calling in and we before he he's, he's going to call in, I then Daniel Jones will call in second while two phone calls in the same segment. That's a rarity rare two for one for us. But I also do want to ask him if Pat Shurmur really means it that Daniel Jones is a shot at starting week one for the giants..

"Getting ready to play. And you know you just. See what happens with it, but you know we feel good about where you live is he's starting quarterback. And we've got a young player that we think is going to be an outstanding player getting himself ready to play by the way. Everybody else forget them. On there in the rear view mirror. But part of me. When you talk about it short talk about it, it's not a big deal. I mean, but the media makes a big deal out of it, because it's ally and everything else. But I do kinda feel like the giants are sending somewhat of a message play well or you're going to sit down. I feel should be. And I feel like they're trying to let a fire under your feet. Well, yeah, but I think he lies always motivated. I just don't think he's got it anymore, but also he's going to start week wanting there's no doubt about it. I don't think you vision of scenario. Dana Jones wings job in training camp. No, no going to take he's not right. I mean he is going to have two three four five six bad games before you even think about Daniel Jones play. Daniel Jones steps on the field in preseason. And he gets gets a wind of what it's like, yeah. It's gonna take them a while to get comfortable. It's one thing to be comfortable when you throw in routes one on one and, you know, you're in practice where they're not going to hit the quarterbacks with the red jerseys and all that other stuff. It's a completely different set of circumstances. Once you step on the NFL football field. You gotta learn and he looks good in practice. There's no question about it. But you gotta learn. So I, I don't see any scenario in which he would start to seize it, unless he like on her Oakland Raiders will be featured on hard summer and World Cup. The USB Thailand thirteen enough. Yes, say record. All right. Thanks, Jerry CD's.

"Thirty five minutes after the hour. Thursday edition of pro football talk live. So every time I think the giants are done saying something that they probably shouldn't have said about Daniel Jones the sixth overall pick in the twenty nineteen draft. They say something else that makes us say why are they saying these things Daniel Jones? Remember the over under set by? Sportsbook in Vegas that opens June one the over under for starts. This year is seven point five. And I remember thinking when I first saw that is ridiculously high bet the farm on the under, and it's like, wait a minute. Wait a minute. They're trying to get me to bet the farm on the under. They know something. And the one thing that we know about the giants if we didn't already and this is true of pretty much every NFL team. There's always something going on behind the curtain that we don't know about that. We find out about when they choose to raise the curtain and show us what they're up to case in point Oto Beckham junior. We didn't sign him to trade, and we didn't sign him to trade, and we didn't sign him to trade him. Oh, look we traded him. They don't feel any urgency or compulsion to share their plans with us before it's time to execute those plans. So could it be that the giants have a secret plan to make the transition from Daniel Jones to ally manning sooner than anyone realizes more on that theory in a moment for now here's giants offense coordinator, Mike Shula. Asked this specific question, if Daniel Jones was in another circumstance where there isn't a veteran starter could he start week one? I think he'd be ready to go. That's my personal opinion. I do I think that. You know, he's now I would say this because times have change like you said times have changed, you know, in years past draft a guy whenever you draft me was that early..

"Daniel Jones by himself, and how much of it is the Cutlip back yard line manning Peyton we've heard compared to pay manning trained by manning dot com. You know? That's a nice piece. Right. I mean, obviously. David. Cliff? He didn't fall for turnip truck yesterday. So we been well trained. That was almost a Nick who moment he actually he doesn't know Dave cut clubs first name. He's a general manager of the National Football League. How do you not how how do you not know David cut clubs? I names like who who's this manning who Pat manning Peyton I don't know come on that that's one of the ways they sold this trying to bootstrap Daniel Jones DNA into the manning family, Chris. So again, we're going to have a hell of a poker game. One of these nights. We'll go down to the barn. And we we already got a list about ten or twelve guys come in. And we will clean up. We will clean up. Make sure they bring a lot of cash when we play with them because he will clean up that would be fun. I do think that was a huge reason why they took Daniel Jones. I really do. Now. First of all I wanna pump the brakes on anything being compared to Peyton Manning. I mean, arguably the greatest quarterback of all time certainly in everybody's top five. I mean Payton manning again, this wasn't just some smart guy. When Peyton Manning came out of college. His arm was legit. I'm not gonna say we were sitting there going. Oh, this is Aaron Rodgers Patrick. Homes. But we said, whoa. That's a pretty damn good arm. And he was a phenomenal athlete for his size and had a quick release and could make power throws down the field. So I want to stop all the crap about comparing this guy to Peyton Manning Peyton Manning's on another level. I wanna compare them to a little bit. Sure, I understand that. And I could see that a little bit more. But I do think this had everything to do. And this is why I was on this and said that I thought they were going to take Daniel Jones, you can lock it in because of some of the things you mentioned, I mean old world NFL here was in talks, Ernie Coursey was the GM who hired Eli. I mean, the drafted Eli manning. Okay. Ernie Coursey was hired by the giants to help hire. GM? He hired his buddy. Dave gettleman. Okay. Then gillibrand gotten a conversation. I mean, hey gillibrand and Ernie. Of course, you have known each other since the days of the Dan Marino. John Elway trade. They go way back like four flats in a Cadillac, so yes, I just saw. It coming to where this was the selling point. And I do think cut cliff and the way Daniel Jones handles himself in a meeting room and processes processes information was what they liked most about him. And I just think that's kind of a buyer beware. When you start the conversation off with that type of stuff. I remember one of the other things that Dave Gettleman is looking for is a guy with the overall mental makeup to thrive and survive in the New York media market, and I don't know how I don't know how those hostile ACC Carolina crowds who I don't know. It's easy to glean from that. Right. I'd be more inclined to to defer to a guy like Dwayne Haskins who has gotten it done for Ohio State, even though it was only for a four year. But that's one of the things got them. What was looking for? He's also looking for I big guy to play defensive line. And I know you like this pick Chris with pick number seventeen they go Dexter Lawrence. The Clemson defensive tackle. What do you think of that love that pick? I mean, Dexter Lawrence. I I really thought he was really, you know, top fifteen worthy of somebody took him at the end of the, you know, number nine number ten I wouldn't have been met. I've never seen a three hundred and forty pound man. Move the way Dexter Lawrence. Does it special? I'd call them a dancing bear extremely athletic you, and I talk about it a lot being able to push the pocket, you know, handle double teams in the run game one on one. He can beat you with pure power or speed. It's really a rare rare athlete, and I thought they knocked out of the park with the Dexter Lawrence pick. And we were planning on TV side, the clip of him getting the word, and I love the euphoria that was his mom that was dancing in the foreground. It was great. It reminded me of when the giants drafted Justin Pugh a few years ago and his buddies put him at the bottom of a dog pile. That's how excited they got. So great stuff and and happy guy to be going to New York to play for the giants. Pick number thirty. The giants got back into the round ended up with three picks just like. The raiders they trade up to get the Andre Baker the only corner taken last night an area of need just because they're secondary has many areas of neat. Yeah. Definitely needed a corner. I thought maybe seventeen they might go guy like, greedy Williams. I I'll say this de'andre Baker is a good football player. I don't know if I think he's a great corner. That's going to have to be proven to me. First of all. I don't think there's too many great corners that run over four or five. That would be the first thing that scares me. If you can't, you know, Reno four five against guys like, you know, AJ green and Julio Jones who run for three seven, and all of a sudden you look up, and you go whoa there a tenth and a half faster than a guy. Like this. I go damn. How's it going to stay with them? And he doesn't play like he's faster than four four five two which you ran into combat, and I think he plays really maybe even a hair slower that scares me there. Now, the guy is a great tackler. He's physical. He's pretty smart. So there might be some position versatility with them. And maybe that's what they liked about him ultimately. But I. I don't necessarily love to pick. I would have gone, greedy Williams, all the way six two runs. Four three. You know, again, I'll say this for the ninth time. You've heard me say this. There's a reason the greatest Cornerbacks of all time are the greatest Cornerbacks of all time. You know, the Sanders. Darryl green Durell Rivas champ Bailey. You know, Rod Woodson when he came out Charles Woodson. These are all guys that are low four four four three four two type of talent to where they can run with anybody and that allows them to be able to cover the underneath stuff. Well, because they don't have to hit it into six gear to keep up with people running down the field. So that gives them the ability to be able to stop and start because they never have to go one hundred percent when they're running with other receivers because they're that fast. So those are my concerns about the Andre Baker. So we'll see where that goes. Yeah. Running forty yards in a straight line. Doesn't happen very often during a football game. But defensive backs chasing receivers that straight line speed is very important. So point well made by you when we return the biggest surprise of the night came within the top four picks, we will react to this secret that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock were keeping and keeping until they finally had to disclose it. What does it mean for the raiders? What does it mean for the player? We'll talk about that when pay to live continues right after this..

"But I'll ask you this question. Jan fan. That's in favor of the pick. Give you a. Daniel jones. Saquon barkley. We took last year, and I can is stud indexed the wars. Okay. Door number two. I give you San Donald. You del Beckham junior. And I give you Josh Allen. What avenue are you taking on? I think it's pretty self explanatory taken auction co. Johns born in on a quarterback last year. All of a sudden now there's an about face and they're reaching for Daniel Jones. I want to hear about the cut cook school. I don't want to hear about the relationship to the manning family. They did not take quarterback that is as good as one that could last year. Only time will tell the Dave has the last laugh Brian now, I'm as puzzled as ever to what the giants China accomplish at what they trying to do on the front side. And it's amazing how the New York Jets in a way. Kind of. Gone about their business in a quiet way that the giants have a lot of the same qualities that the jets is to have the giants. If turned into the old jets, amazing when you think about it. But for the jets hit three Mike McCallum, and again showed you and told you what his philosophy is all about. He takes the best player on the board. There were rumors or inklings that maybe the New York Jets would work to move down. That did not happen. I thought they choose at edge Russia, which is something that's defense has live for quite some time. But the jets end up going with the best player. Available in their opinion. And they went with a guy that some people believe is the best player distract Williams out of Alabama Clinton Williams is going to that defensive line couldn't Williams. He's going to get you interior pressure on the quarterback. He's able to do those things. This cannot be as part two. What a Williams has been decent NFL defensive it. But we heard when letter Williams was drafted best player available. Has not performed like that. You're hoping quitting Williams is going to get the very best defense. You're hoping it's going to help Leonard Williams reach a different level. We didn't have to worry about the double teams over and over again. But this pick is kind of lead to stability on that defensive line. Fall more pressure on the quarterback and just. A better look better feel for Greg Williams in his first year as defensive coordinator. China take this defense to a different level yelp. Couldn't win is going to be. It wouldn't have been the pick. I wanna make can I question a pick. Some what can I kill the pick? No, I cannot because I think the just kept them selves really good player as for the giants. I think they reach for a quarterback at six and goes back to last year. It got it wrong last year and going with saquon Barkley over a quarterback. Now all of a sudden the about face they need a quarterback. Hey, are you going to be able to to go to the draft? Yeah. I'm planning on it. We're excited. That's going to be fun. We look forward to seeing you out there in Nashville. Stay stay in the business side of things because there's only so many of these jobs to go around force here. I love her personality that was fun talked phone conversation, and she shed some light on I guess. I guess Dan, you stick to it in this in terms of his willingness he would not let it go. If he's taken ill. He is determined that he's going to win at the end of the day. And I think that speaks volumes about how he's wired and is one of the reasons why you could see teams fallen in love with him as a potential franchise quarterback. Yeah. She spoke about some of those epic battles there on the basketball court there at the Jones household fly on the wall and see some of those take place in any of us was siblings. Play sports. We all have those stories fun to hear those there from the Jones family. All right. Let's go back to the to the high school days here for Daniel Jones there at Charlotte Latin school in North Carolina. Thankfully, you had a chance to catch up with the headman there. Larry mcnulty. All right. Coach great to have you here with us. Look, I'm looking at your resume here eleven state championships in if my math is correct. Thirty two years. You're basically winning a state title once every three years. Yeah. It was actually twelve, but that's okay. Oh, no. Oh my goodness. Congratulations on a terrific career anew. You're retired as head coach at Charlotte Latin after the two thousand seventeen season, which means you had a chance to to get Daniel Jones for his entire high school career and Bucky, and I were just looking here. And we saw the used to call him swag. Is that right? I still call them swag. I called him swag as pro day on Tuesday. And he snapped around. He knew exactly. Call swag sense. It wasn't about ninth grade. And why is that why did that come to? He just had this. You know, he's not a boisterous. He's not an outgoing Iran yell and scream joining Zell kind of quarterback. He he leads with a unique quiet confidence. And he just had this air about him, and all the coaches and all the kids are like coach or some special about young Daniel, and I'll get back to what he looks like when you first got going. But I said, you know, he's he's got swag. And everybody went in. You know, that's what it is. He's got swag and pretty soon. Everybody on campus was calling. That's so that's that's great. He's swag this funny. Coach, you know, I think you speak about something that I guess gals always curious about because he is so understated in his demeanor. You wonder can't be a guy that commands the room? How is he has a leader for you and your team? Well, let me I'll even bagged up a little bit from that question and tell you that I don't think there's a person at our school, including football players. Teachers administrators coaching staff that doesn't hold Daniel Jones at the highest level of respect and the kids on our football team would absolutely go through a fire for that kid. And I run into those guys around town all the time in her going like coach, Dan Jones was awesome. He's the man he was our he was a guy that fueled us night. Didn't stand up in front of everybody and wave a banner and a pom pom all the time. But you know when he hit the practice field. It was all business. And and he was one of those kind of guys would would rally. The kids around him. And I talked to some of the Duke players when I was up at a pro day. And they said the same thing they said, you know, we love Daniel, John. So I mean, he eases great off the field as is on. I think I think a little bit of his story certainly speaks to that coach ending up at at Duke after kind of a quiet recruitment. And then, you know, going from a walk onto becoming a two time captain in the starting quarterback at Duke, it takes an ability to endear yourself to that team to to be able to jump in and become that kind of leader in that kind of face of the program if you will Murray, and it wasn't too much different Latin when he was a sophomore. And we started camp he was not slated to be the number one quarterback. He was five eleven one hundred forty seven six five. Now, I used to tease me had to run around the shower to get wet. He was so skinny and. And. No follow his own it within the second game of the season. He ends up being our starter. And we weren't great. But we were okay. But in about the sixth game of the year, we went over and played Charlotte. Christian news one of our biggest rivals. They had a kid by name. Jeff Blazevic who went on to Georgia to start as a tight end for them of. They're not he may be in the NFL still. I I think you had a shot. Sure. And Jeff was defensive end, and he got a clean run at Daniel Jones at five eleven one forty five and he launched him about five feet air and he landed in heap. He finally struggled over the sideline and his helmet sideways looking through his ear whole face matches and busted, and I'm fearful he can't even play. I thought he was done for the night. It's sit Danbury or your food. He goes coach give me a damn helmet and get me back out and play. And I turned one of my assistant coaches, and I said do we got something here? This got this kid got in east heart is nails and that kind of person. Analogy just makes other people wanna play for you in with you. You know, coach you talk about his toughness and courage in terms of being able to get back from destination. What is he like in critical moments when the game is on the line, and you have to hinder ball and say, Dan you go make a play. How did he respond in those situations? Well, we never had a lot of problem with him in any regard in tough situations. We he played in quite a few big games for us. And really some of his best performances were in the big games in. I know one instance, we were playing state so my final in the team that are really good job of defendant are passing game. And we say, let's go home run rush like hundred sixty yards and just decided he was going to take over running the ball. He he's a much more adequate runner than people give him credit for you know, he's not super quick feet. But he once he gets rolling. He's pretty good. So to answer a question, he always responded well for us in pressure, and I know he played on the basketball team and every night. They put him on other teams best player because he was such Taneja guy down the stretch, and he usually shot him down. How would you describe his development coach from the moment? You got your hands on until the time you ship. Them off to coach cut cliff. Well, that's that's really interesting story. Because as I told you he he physically was not a candidate for college football, very lateness high school career. I mean, he even as a junior he was like six foot two hundred seventy pounds. And he just kept growing and growing and developing what I will tell you is that he was always the first guy out on the practice facility. He never left the field unless she accomplished everything that he set out to do in all my years of coaching and all the quarterbacks that I had. I don't think anybody spent anymore time studying the game plan and preparing himself, mentally he never missed. Our daily get together to talk game plan and talk offense in three years. Not once like just set my watch by him coming through my door. So it was awesome to see this five eleven hundred and forty five Pounder become a six foot four hundred. Eighty five pound away went off to coach Cutlip on. Of course, you you guys. Probably
"daniel jones" Discussed on Big Blue View
"Manning who whether he's back in two thousand nineteen or not is is still open for debate. But he's he's closer to the end. You know, he's very close to the end of time with the giants. Does Daniel Jones to the giants make sense to you. And does Jones have the personality to deal with with with the big city with you know, with the with the media presence in the New York, New jersey area. Does does that does him in New York sound like a good thing to you? Yeah. I don't see why wouldn't fit as I mentioned. He's a he's a smart guy. I don't just say that because he went to do. I mean, but. I've spoken to him. I've I've heard him interviewed a number of times. He's a bright guy who's majoring in economics. He's getting like a a minor or certificate in in marketing and management. So this is someone who you know, he understands I think he will understand the business of being a quarterback. And I'm glad you mentioned the Manning's not only has he been to the Manning's passing camp passing academy. Whatever you wanna call it. But he lie for for several years has has come to Duke to hang out over the summer and work with David cut clip. That's how that's how close cut cliff is with the with the manning family. And I'm I'm certain that Daniel Jones has been a part of those visits. So. I think Jones would have a really have a great mentor in ally. In fact, lies probably already meant toward him some because of that relationship that they've developed through through their shared head coach, David cut cliff. I can't think of any reason he wouldn't be able to handle the New York market, just just fine. Although obviously it all comes down to performance on the field. I mean, look if you take the kid in the first round, and he ends up being a starter. And leading the team having the team be successful. Everyone's gonna love him. It's gonna go great. And the media will be friendly. If on the other hand, you take them in the first round, and maybe he languishes a little bit. And he's not able to get the starting job. Or or the team is struggling with him at quarterback doesn't matter. How savvy he is dead matter. How personable he may be in an interview people aren't going to like it. So to me the question is how do you perform on the field? And and I feel like based on the success. He had a Duke and. What I've seen from him. I think Daniel Jones could be successful NFL quarterback. Sounds like you have read the New York media a little bit. It's all about winning baby. There you go. Hey, jason. I appreciate your spending some time with me dropping knowledge on us about Daniel Jones in if he happens to wind up in a giants uniform. Maybe we'll talk again, I love that. Thanks a lot. I appreciate you spend the time chatting with me. And and getting to know this kid because he's worth it. He's really worth it. Thank you. Okay. Giants fans.
