That's definitely putting explicit tag on his podcast. It was a shame actually that that much of the Australian open ended up being about injuries so much because it's a fun matchup. It is. I mean, vandross is a bonkers tennis player to me. I do not know what is coming out of his racket on any given day. But she's fun, you know, she can make good matches. She's a bit different and that applies to gibeau as well. And I think it'll be a bit of wizardry. That's definitely the match for the drop shots counter. Like, we need to know how many drop shots are played in that match because I imagine it will be a lot. They both love that shot. Yes, please, for that one. Final yes, please, just back to the men very quickly is where rinka against runner tomorrow. The rematch. Yeah. The last time they played one another rinka at the net having been beaten. Said, stop being a baby on the court or something along those lines. I think that exactly those lines. Yes. So I did in hindsight now. I feel a bit sorry for uno about that. You know, I think I do think he behaves, I think he's bad like a brat several times over the last couple of years and worse the one moment that we've talked about a lot when he used that homophobic slur. But the fact is that I think he is trying to work it out. He's trying to work out who he is and work out how to behave on the court and get through these situations and he's sometimes failing. He's I think he's probably starting to get better at his. I didn't think God Stan. That's a bit ah, isn't it? But anyway, you know, I also understand opponents getting wound up by it. So hopefully hopefully they can have a good match and I know I like Niagara, but I almost sort of hope that that one ends all right. Who is this guy? I just see. I like the journey. The story arc. "I never felt that way about Roger Federer and I felt like I missed out on something by never feeling that way. You know, I loved watching Roger Federer, but generally only, you know, I just always want to competitive match. I always say that, but and I would rather see our crowds against Djokovic going toe to toe for 5 sets, don't get me wrong. But I still get a lot of pleasure from just watching alcaraz B alcaraz in the kind of form that he was in last night. What else have we seen? Andy Murray is still in the tournament and he is in the tournament by virtue, hold on to your hats folks of a straight set win. His first since October 2022, a stat which he was very, very, very, very, very aware of David. Oh, it was fascinating to sort of talk to him afterwards. And just see, I think how proud he is of his three set record in the last 6 months, because that had become a problem of not being able to win these close dogfights and suddenly that's all he can win, and he's won 7 of those this year, but the lack of a straight sets victory had become an issue. And he came into the press Corinth who was a good chat like it normally is. But he was particularly interesting when our colleague Russell fuller from the BBC spoke to him and asked him about that record and about the fact that he'd got one under his belt again and he made us all laugh he says that he said I can I also was at breakfast today and I saw the last person that I beat in straight sets who was a which was backhand list contender Alejandro davidovich for kina. Yeah. And he said, it was probably probably shouldn't have said it. But when he came up to me and we were just having a little bit of a chat, Alejandro said to me off, a lot of three set matches you're having, aren't you? And he said, yeah, except against you. And he swore at him in Spanish. Which is a great stuff. You could see Andy Murray's sort of mischievous little face as he delivered that line. He's loving life at the moment. Yeah, I think and he's loving the fact that he's going to face his young British compatriot Jack Draper who's beaten Dan Evans in the previous round. It was 6 four 6 two and actually the first set was really close, believe it or not, and there were a lot of bright back points, opportunities for Evans. But that, that tells me, I think, I don't know what you're using. How far Draper has come already. He thrashed somebody 6 one 6 one in the first round. He's beaten Evans 6 four 6 two. Another answer that Annie Murray gave to Russell was his face lighting up saying you should have seen the practice session. We had recently in Dubai, me and Jack Draper, some of the rallies were just ridiculous, and he was he could see he loves the challenge. He can't wait for them to get out there and he clearly really likes Catherine Jack Draper. As a player and a person. Yeah, he loves it. He was gushing about it. Absolutely gushing. And that's our experience as, well, as well. We had just a very brief encounter, didn't we with him on our first day here, just as we were walking into the press room. And I said this to both of you, you take tennis player out of it, most 21 year old boys, what is he? 2021, you know, they don't do a lot of eye contact. They're, you know, they're not, they're not necessarily that. David, you've been a 21 year old toy. Yeah, a bit awkward. Especially he strikes me as pretty shy, Jack Draper as well, but he went out of his way to give us a fist bump and really look us in the eye and acknowledge us and I was very impressed by that. Yeah. I was too. And one fascinating note about the room that we're sitting in right now, which is interview room three. Is that the lights have just completely gone out? And we are sitting in pitch darkness. Matt has managed to get out of his chair and go and turn them back on. So thank you very much for that matters. That was Madrid 2019 vibes. I did a whole interview with Chris clary in the dark. When the lights just went out and you in the middle of our remote case as well. Maybe it's me. Maybe. But I mean, just to finish that point on Jack Draper and he is, he's just a really impressive young man. I mean, I'm sort of proud that he's a British tennis player. He's somebody you want representing the country. And just representing the sport, he's just think he's a really cool guy. It's the sweet spot of having chutzpah, but not being a douchebag. So you also Ben Shelton. I know there's some people that think Ben Shelton's a bit much. I know there are really? Perhaps other plays in the locker room that don't love is just dumping energy. I completely agree with you. I love it. I think he walks that line for me. And it's brilliant. If you're a tennis player getting annoyed by what Ben Shelton's doing, which is, you know, some pretty loud commands, a few rules, get a grip. I mean, honestly. And I think it says a lot that, you know, someone like Taylor Fritz, I think, really like some rates Ben Shelton and actually that makes yesterday was probably my favorite match that I've watched here so far. Certainly the second set. And it was interesting because it was Fritz, coming back to the tournament that he won last year, California boy is home tournament. He was he's meant to be the crowd favorite. And he's up against Ben Shelton, who sort of can't help, but be the crowd favorite because of the way he plays and the way he is. And yet still, Fritz wasn't annoyed at Ben Shelton about that. He just recognized that he's got charisma and personality and a great game and yeah, we spoke the other day about the ridiculous athletic feats that we've seen Ben Shelton perform off a tennis court this week already. What I love is how he uses his athleticism on the court. This was the first time I'd watched him live and his capacity to get to the net and leap into shots and leap into his serve. I mean, that service motion must just be the envy of everyone on the tour, especially because it's a lefty serve as well. He's got so much game and still loads that he can improve as well and Fritz did do brilliantly, I think, to turn that match around. He was in trouble there. I thought it was really impressive grip from Fritz, but yeah, I think a lot of people left that match as even bigger Ben Shelton fans and they're already work because he just brought it. It is scary how much he's improved in just 6 weeks, isn't it? He looks a notably better player than the Australian open. If somebody can package and that's him and obviously his team, if they can package his game and keep its raw power and ferocity and bounce and all the things that he brings to the court because you don't want to you don't want to dull that too much. You don't want to shave the edges off and smooth that over too much because the roughness is part of what makes it so exhilarating to watch, but also so frightening to play against. But he's got to find ways to win efficient points because he's going to be on so many highlights in the next couple of years, which is great. But I also think that there is potential health permitting. I mean, he's so physical that I always worry for the body of a player who's a physical as he is throwing himself around the way he does. But if he can keep fit, there is potential for him to be top 5 in the world. There is no obvious limit to my eye anyway. Now, coaches, they tend to have a good look at players like him and figure stuff out, ways to blunt them. But just hope they get it right. Hope they get his development right.

"We said we were hoping for clay court never have. We're getting clay court member and we love it. He's got zverev in the next round. I know that they're head to head is 6 a piece, but you have to put Medvedev is the favorite for that. You know, long peas or not. Yeah, well, I mean, look, it was a very still working his way back as near after that very long layoff because that horrible ankle injury that he sustained at Roland Garros last year. He had got that one win had he at the tour finals, the year before. Which is actually their last meeting. Is it Medvedev himself reminded me of that in his on court interview, he was the head to home was put to him and he was able to reel off, you know, all of their meetings and say, we haven't met for precisely 422 days or whatever. Very interesting though, on this surface, given how it's clearly not just a technical problem for him. It's also in his head. It's in his head. He's bothered by it, and yes, he's saying all the players are talking about it. And I don't doubt that. I think there is a view that this court is tricky for certain players. But that's very difficult for him now to go and keep on winning without thinking about that element of the match. And zverev does hit a bigger ball and he does. So I just think benford is technically sound more sound and he's obviously not had a 6 month layout for an ankle injury. So he's had all these wins in a row. So you'd have to make in the favor. I do think there's an element with Medvedev. He knows he can only winge about this stuff when he's winning. He doesn't, you know, he doesn't want to be a whinging loser, so when he's riding high like he is, he thinks, I'll get all my gripes out on the table now, so no one can say I'm being salty. Let's stick with the men's draw and round up significant things that we see over the last couple of days. Should we do alcaraz seeing as we talked so much about alcaraz, the famous Carlos alcaraz, he's looking like the famous Carlos alcaraz. Occupied our evening the night before, didn't he in the apartment in tennis podcast towers here in Indian Wells. And it was just, he's an experience in himself. Doesn't matter what the match is a mini pledge to now see cock and arcas, and you don't even spend much time looking down that end of the court because what our kras is doing is so beguiling so totally dominating in terms of your attention. Absolutely, yeah. They look like two very different players out there and I very much enjoy it. He can't help it. Right, we interrupt this high level tennis analysis to be forced to disclose something to you all. Which means which may make us lose all our listeners. So this is on you. Okay. Well gone then. I wasn't involved in this, so I can't. You are now. I can't recount it. Right. So David's been trying to track down Juan Carlos Ferreira for a chit chat about Carlos alcaraz and about the movement. He came over and we had a lovely chat and you'll hear it folks. So yesterday, David was very much on the lookout for Juan Carlos Ferrero. And David and I wander into the press room around about 5 o'clock, so between sessions, there was a long gap between sessions yesterday, Al graz is due to play in the night session, and we see. And again, we'd like to stress, press seats very high up. I mean, at the top of the stage. At the top of the stadium, it's a very big stadium. David and I are too much at the top. David and I wander in. Second tier. And David says, oh, well, that's where alcaraz is. He's hitting it, because he hadn't been on the practice church on David said, oh, well, that's because he was practicing on the center court. And so I go, oh yeah, of course, David, of course that's what it is. Let's have a look for Juan Carlos Ferreira when we stand there and we look around the court. There's absolutely no sign of Juan Carlos Ferrero and I once again am struck by the size of Carlos Sainz. I was talking about a couple of days ago. Towering. I said the words. I think that's a great spot. Anyway. We had a lovely chat, didn't we? David, we had a lovely time watching Carlos alcaraz. Hit. I did think that backend is a bit shit, but I thought he was having a light warm up ahead of his match. He didn't want it. It falls stride. Anyway, we're back at tennis podcast towers were having a lovely evening. Several hours later. We're eating our ribs. David goes really quiet. Carl sauerkraut. Walked out onto the court on our TV several hours later. And I said, I've just realized why can't I look so tall? Catherine. Wasn't there? Because we were watching bananas coconut is practical. I'm not scarless, who hasn't had air. And I haven't grown three inches. But it was a long distance from us. And Matt is struggling to retain any sort of respect for the control group employed him when she has to go. Yeah, just. Is it worth this even carrying on with this pod? Unable to recognize one of the most electric players. And the U.S. is forehand. The world number one. It's great. In practice, I don't know what happened to it in the match, wasn't there? So funny. There was a seeing as I've already sworn on this podcast. Several times. In the presence of danil Medvedev, we've already displeased your mom, David. I'm going to do it again to recount the moment that the nice coconut. It was lip read, because it was under his breath, but Koch and Argus it was what a certain three one or something. And another blistering winner, the like of which cocking arc is and most players on tour will never ever be able to hit just screamed past him and kokina is just trudging back to the chair under his breath goes fuck me. And that's and that's summed it up. That summed up that match. It looks like a different sport when he's playing like do you believe Dan ill when he says he was watching that and he wasn't trying to work out what he would do. Yes I do actually because he then said that he would go back to that memory and use it to work out what he would try to do. But I think he's so in the moment and enjoying the match that he's able to not be Daniel Medvedev the player when he's watching it he's kind of able to be the fan. But of course he's using course he's gathering that information even if it's subconsciously. I do love it when tennis players watch tennis I know they need to have more in the life and all the rest of it. I love it when tennis players are tennis fans. Well, that's been one of the great things about the team events that we've seen. United having players on the sideline watching is great and yeah, I mean just sort of final note on our careers. He looked much better than I thought he was going to look actually considering last time we saw him. He was injured and quite badly injured and really compromised and I know one Carlos Ferrero told Chris clary that outcrops was a 100%, but I did not detect any sign of him looking compromised or even thinking about not going full power to reach a ball or not hit his forehand four pout. He just looked exceptional and yeah, he gave a quote afterwards saying I tried to make people enjoy watching tennis. The way they play the way I play, I think they love it. And that just says everything, doesn't it? He's so, as you said, he's so keen to put on a show out there. I love it. Yeah. I said, well, we were watching last night that he's the only player and one of the only players ever that I get enjoyment still from watching a thrashing.

"You have to try to win. You have to try to adapt tactically, physically, mentally, and so for sure, I'm sure if we're going to play great tennis with Carlos, we could see each other a lot of the times during many tournaments. Especially hardcore. And that could be great, but yeah, we never played since Wimbledon, but that was long ago and he was not the same sound. Honestly, not even count this match too much. We'll let you go into something because you've got a streak to keep up an eager fun tech esque streak. Final question I just wanted to ask you just occurred to me. You strike me as a very intelligent tennis player person and that's something that you love. Something that you use on the court, right? You make tactical mid match adjustments, which not everybody does out there. What's the Andre Agassi quote, David of you either have to or is it a Jimmy Connors quote? You either have to be super smart or really stupid to be at the very top of the game. I'm butchering. That's actually a great quote. I'm butchering the quote, but that's actually true. Because at least me, I don't speak too much to other tennis players about how do you think during the game? Because then you kind of also will have to give away what you think. And sometimes it happens to me, let's say it's a really stupid example, but I don't know. When the guy slices, I would mostly go inside in and then sometimes I would mix it up and go inside out. And it happens in some matches where the guy slices, and I'm like, okay, this one, I'm going inside out to surprise him. And the guy is there. I'm like, you either have to be really smart to be there or you have to be really stupid because I was supposed to go inside in. And yeah, there are so many so many moments like this, like I don't know, you go four times, serve down the T and you're like, okay, that's a good moment to mix it up. The guys are like, I have to be either really smart or really stupid. So I would say tennis is, that's probably the best one I heard in my life. And that's really funny. And I think you can say it about everyone and anything that you see. You can have that as your own now. Yeah. Great. I'll claim it as an original. To get his insight into the day to today and to see the way he see the way he thinks, really, and as he's going along, I mean, it's just so interesting that that element at the end, I'm always fascinated about the sort of inner dialog of a player. And it's not the same for every play. There are some players that I mean, honestly, I think if we were to have Pete Sampras here right now, I don't think he had a conversation in his head. I think he was so programmed innately to do what he does. He didn't need to have any he didn't want thoughts. I'm sure we had somebody not that long ago to tell us. I don't want to think on the tennis court at all. And yet you've got someone like Daniel who he is very cerebral as a tennis player and there are others too that you get the sense are just having conversation where you see them having conversations with themselves sometimes, but they're just trying to work it out. Yeah, look, it makes total sense to me for me like there is nothing worse than an inner monologue, in a monologue will always be saying, well, that was rubbish. Yeah. I got a patient. You know, if I could turn my brain off doing sport, even at my low level, I would happily do that because my brain does me no favors. It's one of the reasons why I love presenting live TV because my monologue dies and it's the only time I ever feel truly in the moment and understand what people mean when they say in the moment. The rest of the time I'm thinking almost constantly, what did I say that? So it makes sense to me and I think you've got to trust your inner monologue pretty pretty consistently as Medvedev seems to to be able to use it as an asset the way he seems to. Yeah, gosh, he's fascinating, isn't it? I don't think. I don't think there are many tennis players that we could sit down with and just have that conversation that we just had there and then and be so sort of hanging on every word. I really wanted to know what he was saying the whole time. He has put himself on the back hand list. Listen, I think that's fair. He was on my 5. I think he is I mean, we didn't specify that it is only 5. But I mean, I think he'd be on my 5, certainly for a double handed backhand. And I actually think I'd probably put him on there either way, because it seems so uncomplicated that stroke from him, and yet it's also damaging. And I love that he can contort his body into weird positions and hit his backhand. There's nothing from a still screenshot of Medvedev mid shot. He looks good like a sort of corkscrew. So Medvedev through to face and I was going to say, I think actually the timing worked out so perfectly of Medvedev coming in. I don't actually think we even mentioned what it was. Did he say? He said, let's do just that. Earphones in to make sure he got it word for word for word transcription. When he lost that second. Yes, I had to go back and scroll and transcribe because I could tell that it was funny just from his gestures. And he'd been gesturing over to Cedric Murray at the side of the court. And you clocked David that he seemed to be cross about the court rather than necessarily about how he was playing. And that turned out to be true because he said to umpire Muhammad Ali after losing the second set, I'm going to pee as slow as this court. The court is slow, so I go slow. And I haven't said you have to accept this you're a professional and he said, I don't accept this. They say on the fact sheet that this is hardcourt. This is not hardcore.

"But can I tell you that we met a fan yesterday who had a T-shirt custom made that said, shut your fuck up on it? Well, at least that's not ah, yeah, that's I said it once. I want you to say I never said it, but yeah, I said a lot of things during my career. I feel like definitely Americans love their entertainment, like the first match against nakashima, there was a guy in the crowd. He was acting like it was an NBA game, and I was like, yeah, that's how it is in the U.S., you know, tennis is in a way different here, tennis crowd. And that's great because that's electric and if we get full stadiums, I think here it's going to be the case a little bit later in the second week. That's going to be pretty great. Just on a slightly different note, we know that you're a tennis obsessive. You like watching a lot of matches, you already said today. Indeed. If I lose, I don't watch one that you can. Then you're on the PlayStation. Yeah, maybe. Well, I wanted to ask about backhands because I have a thing for backhands. I love backhands. I have a list of my favorite backends, but at the moment, it's a bit like an obsession or kind of. At the moment, it's a WTA only list because it's a I think on that tour. It's a backhand heavy tour. It's a lot of great backends on the WTA Tour, but I need to make a list of men's backends that I like. And it's not necessarily a list of the best backhands. It's just the backhands that give you a great feeling and that look good and feel good. And I wonder whether you can name some players on the ATP tour whose backhands you really, really like. Well, first of all, if we talk about. The beautiful part of it, it's one handed backhands just because it looks so beautiful. So natural. And it actually can be different technique. And it always looks beautiful. If people, of course. Put it in. But so that's why I'm actually going to put it aside and talk about double ended because I'm a double handed backhand. So there's going to be zero for me. I think Sasha is back in this great looks great and when he's in top of his form, he's pretty solid from it. I'm actually going to mention David because when I played him in Rotterdam I was really surprised with how he was able to hit his backhands cross and even down the line and that's what I saw in the next tournaments as well so there was not an accident and that's what I didn't feel like he was doing before. Just in general talking, I feel like almost 90% of players on tour have more solid backend than forehand. But can make more points on the forehand. And who else can I put there? Joke of it? Yeah, but I feel like that Novak's forehand is so good right now last four years, maybe even before, but I haven't played him much before. That, for example, when I play him, I feel like I'm less in danger when I play on his back and the way his forehand is just brutal. I would say probably one of the best on tours for me. So that's why I don't want to talk too much about his back. But it's actually a really beautiful and I mean the way he can slide to it is amazing. Andy Murray? The other week. Yeah? Yeah. No, no. The thing is that in my opinion, every double almost every double handed backhand on tour is kind of when I say the same on a good day, that's a shot that people are not going to miss. And same about Andy Sasha davidovic current on a good day they're not going to miss a backhand. And so you have to try to find a different way. And the same about me. Would you put yourself on the list? Yeah, I would definitely put myself in the least because I like her good backhand cross 20 shots to see who misses first and yeah, like my back. Who are your favorite players to watch generally? What matchup would you see on the telly or on an order of play and think, yeah, I'm going to watch that. Djokovic zverev and they were before Sasha's injury was amazing to watch Olympic Games. You're so open. But there are so many good matchups. What else can I choose? I just like to watch tennis. What did I watch the other day? I mean, I watched alcohol coconut is worth a great match in my opinion, you know? The famous Carlos alcaraz. I think I would yeah, I think I would like to see more of alcaraz Novak and Rafa, because when he beat them both in Madrid, again, I was injured. So I didn't watch the matches, but I watched Instagram and that was a highlight reel. There was so many highlights from this matches, so I think that could be great. And it's a period that when Carlos won U.S. open, he didn't have to face one of them because I think this could be a amazing to watch. When you watch Carlos against coconut because are you looking at his game and wondering yourself, well, what will I do when I play? Honestly, not at all. I feel like my mind does it automatically that if I have to play him here it can be only in the final. I'm going to remember the matches I saw and maybe try to remember how I saw this and that. But yeah, I like to watch Carlos play because in my opinion pure talent the way he can hit through the ball, like I remember I even watched boy in Osiris a few matches. And when he hits a forehand as he can do it, guys of balanced right away. And that's not many players can do no one can do it with his forehand and yeah, that's why he has the potential to be on this record list, but that's not easy and yeah, you have to play good every week every year. Did you like the thought of having the chance to play against him? The challenge, I suppose. Different type of challenge. I would say I'm different in this way. I kind of, in a way, don't care. I just want to go to the final and see who my opponent is. And I honestly don't care who that is. If it's Novak, great .NET, if it's rough, a great tough match. If it's Carlos great tough match, but whoever is there, it's going to be a tough match.

That's partly because of what I think is excellent scheduling that they have here. Their night session starts at 6 p.m. and it's two best asset matches. Heard of thought, that would be a great idea. It's look, I mean, we've thought for a while there are ways around some of this scheduling issues that tennis has. Yes, best of 5 sets, complicates that at the grand slams. But this is an this is evidence in itself that this works, I think. What's going on at the moment is actually a doubles match involving retired player Kirsten flipkens. She's coming on the center court at Indian Wells. The second biggest tennis stadium in the world. Retired for us. She's out there and she wasn't scheduled to play on this court alongside bethanie mattek sands, but arena sabal lenk is opponent in the scheduled final match of the day on the stadium on leases withdrew moment before that match was due to go on court, so there's been a last minute switcheroo and I imagine cursing Philips fans aside, ticket holders to stadium one would have been glad that Ilya managed to extend the Daniel Medvedev match to three slightly unexpected sets because they at least did get a decent match on the singles front Medvedev did win through pretty handily at the end after some excellent troll energy after losing the second set. Yes. I mean, the first set was just an eventful, wasn't it? It was 6 two and you're thinking there's no issue with the court here. But we're playing absolutely fine. Yeah, I feel like I spoke to a lot of players in the locker room and I feel like a lot of players are struggling, can not say everyone because there are some players that can play good on this court. Especially the ones who can easily generate power, probably more from their wrist. I'd say for sure someone like alcaraz freeze, probably Rublev, and even them, it's not that easy for them here. Probably the slowest score out there in the year and I mean, today there were and it's so tough. I could see I watch matches on TV just to see how other players try to react, adjust. And so many matches you feel like the guy is not playing the bed, loses 6 one just because it comes to the moment where you go for a 30 shot rally and whoever misses loses the pawn and in a way it's like a little bit of luck because after 30 shorts anyone can miss. So that's crazy how today's second and third set, in my opinion, I played the same and just managed to hit maybe one or two better shots and important moments and that was enough and that reminds me a lot of clay but at least it's much easier to move here. Are you saying it's slower than clay? Slower than Roland Garros for sure, for example. Then there are some clay courts that can be wet and especially with The Rain, cold conditions, they're really slow, but I would say it's comparable. It's comparable where I can move much better, so that makes my life easier on clay with stuffer that it's the same. It's tough to make the ball go through a lot of rarely stuff like this, but I move wars on my opponents. So here that sounds the case and that can help me. We saw you leave the court after the second set. We also heard some of the things you said. It was very funny. But what do you say to yourself when you leave the court and come back? And suddenly you're 5 love up in the third set. So what happened? Yeah, honestly, I will tell you, honestly, that when I leave the court, I leave it just to go to the toilet, so not to reset myself or something like this. You can see me leaving a lot of the times after winning the set. So that's just the way to the point to go to the toilet. So that was the same here. But for sure, yeah, I talked to Muhammad and I got, yeah, I got frustrated because especially if you can rewatch the game at 5 three, I think there were two points, 15 love and 30 love. I was hearing so good. Like ten shots cross line cross line cross line, nothing happens. Just literally nothing. And that's not normal for hardcore. And so then, yeah, I was a little bit, how can we say it bed talking to Muhammad, when I say bed talking, just trying to win time? Do you agree with Muhammad? Like he said to you, you're a professional, you need to accept this. That's not an advice, but my attitude was not good enough in the second set. And that's what I kind of said to myself that in the third, I have to try to be more concentrated on the tennis and not on the court, which is very tough after some points where you feel like you've done the right thing and you lose a point. And that's what I managed to do better in the third, not the whole set. I still got frustrated couple of times, but yeah, managed to do it better. And I agree with anyone who said that I had to be more professional and that's when I managed through in the third site. What would Jill say to you after a match like that in a moment like that? Well, first of all, he agrees with me that this is crazy how slow this courts are and that it's how can I translate it to English? Struggle for everyone. Everyone is struggling. I saw current against the video which played today. They were both struggling. I saw very, very worried. I felt like they were both struggling. And when I say struggling, it means that you can do, again, 30 shot rally, where you feel like you've done so many good shots, and it's not going to be enough to win the point and you're like, what else can I do? Well, the only thing you can do is continue playing this way. And that's what Jill says to me, try to win this struggle, you know? Everyone is struggling try to win it like just like I did today. I just wonder, when you have a moment like that at the end of the second set, which was mild compared to, say, the U.S. open a few years ago, but the American crowds here, they remember that from you. They obviously also remember you winning the U.S. open. There seems to me to be quite a lot of affection for you in from tennis fans who remember those moments. When you're out and about, do you get people talking to you more about the U.S. open title you are, or the moments like you had on the court at the U.S. open the year before the couple years before. I honestly don't have much people talking to me about the use open 2019, but damn I have a lot of people who talk, this is going to be on tennis TV brawl. I think that's the most popular line anyone can say to me like every second fan that sees me on the street, especially in U.S., just tells me this has got to be on teddy's to you where I'm like, yeah, yeah, great.

"Indian Wells tennis garden for the very first time our previous two editions from this tournament have been recorded at tennis podcast towers, Indian Wells, which is a very fine place to record, but this time around we thought we'd try the on the site experience David hado. Yeah, I'm very well. It's a bit of a different onsite experience, though, for us, isn't it? Because usually we're out and we can hear all the hubbub in the grounds. It's very quiet in here, isn't it? Little bit of media hubbub, but by that, I mean, just doors opening and closing. So those are the sound effects you'll be hearing. And a little bit chilly. We had a sort of collective fail this morning where Katherine said, oh, hang on, let me just go and get my jacket from the car. Oh, no, didn't bring it. Okay, David said, oh, I didn't bring mine either. And then I realized I had mine either. And yeah, really? Really quite cold right now, but there have been some other collective fails over the last 24 hours, which I'm not sure yet whether we can go into, but we'll see how the next hour goes. We'll see how much credibility I could establish over the course of the next hour and see whether we're in a position to reveal did you need to tease it? Just a good one. What kind of just knocked off? Anyway, anyway. We come to you on Sunday evening. Still a full week to go of the BP Paribas open 2023, which if it's not clear, we are loving. Loving life is. So thank you to our location for bringing us here. I'll tell you what everybody here is loving life and by everybody I mean 45,000 people in the day session yesterday, which is an Indian Wells record. I mean, look, we were remarking on it throughout the day. This feels busy in a way that Indian Wells doesn't feel busy. You know, it was sort of elbowing people out of the way to get where you need to get to and genuinely hour plus long queues for pretty much every food outlet. It looked ever so slightly on the edge out there. Nobody was rowdy or anything, but just in terms of whether there was enough room for all these people and we looked into it or rather Matt looked into it and it's not only an Indian Wells record, but it's a record that exceeds the day session record at the U.S. open. Yeah, the U.S. opens at their data session record on the first Saturday last year and that was 42,000 and something and this was 45,000 and something. And when you include the night session here as well, it was a record for attendance generally at a day at Indian Wells day and night combined. Amazing crowds, as you said, I did think it was on the AH yesterday. I wouldn't have wanted to be a fan, having to queue up for food or a fan queuing up for a tennis podcast meet and greet quite frankly. But yeah, I mean, I've always been, I suppose, a little bit skeptical about whether the month of March should just be taken up with essentially two tournaments, Indian Wells and Miami. But that's because I've never been to those events. I must say, when you're here, you do realize that they make the most of the time they've got in the calendar and it is an incredible event and it gets so many people through the doors seeing tennis and that does feel like a good thing and it does feel like it's worth more than 7 days and yeah, so I've changed my tune a little bit, having experienced it, I suppose. Yeah, I mean, via these meet and greets that we've been doing at the Steve Vogel's booth here on site, which have been a real treat thanks to everybody that has shown up and saved us all from embarrassment. You really have done as proud and will be continuing to do them throughout the tournament. We have had the chance to speak to tennis fans here. Speak to ticket buyers and ask them where have you come from? Do you come every year? How many days are you here from? For and it's pretty extraordinary the lengths that people go to to come to this tournament that is not a Grand Slam. Okay most of the people here are American, we've encountered the odd person that has come from overseas, but within America, we've got people driving 20 hours to get here. And on a dedicated Indian Wells holiday. Again, yes, as your person that's going to Disneyland and tacky on a couple of days in Indian Wells at the end, great itinerary. But by and large, people are going to significant efforts to get here and, you know, we're always trying as people within tennis, we're always trying to take ourselves out of it a bit. And judge things objectively, how much this really mattered to people whose lives aren't on 24/7 tennis like us and it does feel like on a fan level this tournament has something extremely special. And because it's 15 years since I last came here, I didn't see stadium two when I was here last time. I mean, that is that is a worthy stadium a center court for a lot of tournaments. And it is a brilliant tennis watching venue this. All over the place, all the supplementary cause three to 9 are brilliant. The practice courts are very easy to go and have a look at. And it's just I mean, yes, the cues for food yesterday were alarmingly long. And I thought people were so decently kind of oh, it'd have been rising. I mean, we should probably disclose at this point that they do have a fast lane for people with accreditations, which is why I wasn't rioting and why I haven't been stripped

High-ranking Wagner Group member seeks asylum in Norway
"A Russian man who reportedly is a former high ranking member of the Russian private military contractor, Wagner group, has sought asylum in Norway. The Norwegian directorate of immigration has confirmed to The Associated Press that Andrei Medvedev has sought shelter in Norway. Yeah, his monthly, as you said, was impressive, and in the end, I think it loosened him up a bit, because as you said he did have the chat with Patrick macro on the sidelines and at that stage in the match Medvedev was kind of on top, wasn't he, just one, just won the second set. I think curios did need a bit of spark again, and he managed to find it from truly one of the dumbest plays I've ever seen. Yeah, Annie, he owned that moment in the on court interview. He did speak to Patrick McEnroe actually about it. He then came into the press conference afterwards. And it was a very introspective press conference. Wasn't it? I wasn't necessarily expecting that. You do get all sorts of press currencies from curios. I asked him the question, given everything 5 sets, playing the defending champion here at a Grand Slam, is that the best performance of your career. He didn't answer that directly. He actually went into quite an introspective conversation about how low he's been and how far he's kind of come individually because he's, he said, I've been depressed for a long time because of not fulfilling potential for people thinking that I've blown it. And yeah, he talked about pride, really, didn't he, and his performance today. That was the main thing he was, he was referring to, I think, was the fact that he'd finally kind of in a Grand Slam. Not let himself down. And I do think I said this before, but I do think losing the one wouldn't find it in the end for the sort of long-term Nick curios tennis career was the best thing because it has left him motivated. He gave a line at the end of the press conference saying, well, three more matches and I never have to play tennis again. But honestly, I was really high on curios. Over the summer, just thought he was playing so well. But then some comments he gave in Cincinnati suggested that he was kind of at the end of his tank a bit. He's been away for a long time. I just didn't feel as good about him coming into the U.S. open as I thought I would. Just because of those comments, I thought he was just going to be a bit low on energy and he wants to get home, but actually I think those tournaments in the summer were right in the middle of the slog now, like the end is inside, and it's pretty clear for him now. He either he either keeps winning and wins this title, which given the way he played today is a distinct possibility, or he goes home and I just think that's kind of freedom up a bit. You say winning the title of distinct possibility, I called it, I think, mix worthy tennis, and I am well aware that I'm the person who said that he isn't in my mix. But it's another tough match and he's probably going to have three more very tough matches if he is to win this tournament. So still lots to prove. One consequence of tonight is that daniil Medvedev loses his number one ranking. All right. Who's in the mix for that? Well, it is Rafael Nadal, Carlos alcaraz, or Casper Ruud, will be number one at the end of the U.S. open. Favorite. Casper Ruud needs to win the tournament, not against Nadal in the final. But the one of the result we had tonight was the continuation of the isle of Thomas story because after beating Serena Williams, it would be very understandable if she came out flat, exhausted, all those things. And in a completely different atmosphere. You know, it was a bit flat on that court. Lewis Armstrong stadium was the final match of the day on there. Because to completely different experience to the one she had the other night. Yeah. And she faced ludmilla Samsung, who we've been talking about. How dangerous she is with the incredible run she's been on, wasn't it 13 match wins in a row? 13 wins in a row 18 sets in a row coming into tonight. And she had 6 points in the first set. 8. Was it 8? It was 8 in the end. Goodness, mate. Yeah, and there was a almost 20 minute game at 5 four in that set, which you just could not take your eyes off and Tommy out of it ended up saving 7 set points in that game. And just I thought it told you everything about both players, that little sequence, the way Tommy and did save those set points this newfound grit and mental strength and ability to play well in the pressure moments was all at play. And then having not taken those set points, Samsung came out to serving just casually held from love 30 down and in about two minutes and was put the pressure back on Tommy and I was like, that is a stone cold killer

"Talking about Hollywood, I don't know if you've seen it, but I like to ask everybody in the last month or so about it. Given the fact that Top Gun has now, as of this weekend, become the 7th highest grossing movie in history, it just outstripped Titanic and it made a $1 billion in the first 6 weeks. Do you think that's a sign of something because there's nothing politically correct. It's just a celebration of America. Do you feel optimistic that perhaps the left grip on popular culture is waning to a certain degree? No, I'm not optimistic. I still think we're going to hell in a handbasket. And so, you know, to be totally Frank with you. But that is a positive sign. And that's something that ought to speak to people and how to speak to Hollywood. But you know, Seth, I mean, it's been like that for decades. Michael Medvedev was, I think, right? Who in the 80s or 90s did a book, title was in Hollywood versus America, something like that about how movies that are patriotic that are conservative always outperform. These woke movies and these left wing movies. And you would think Hollywood would learn more of a lesson from it, but they don't. In fact, I can tell you that the movie that Reagan the movie, which is based on my book on Ronald Reagan, the crusader, which is coming out in 2023, stars stars Dennis Quaid as Ronald Reagan. Well, I mean, is that a statement of strength? Well, can you put America in this place? That's the question you have to ask. I think any ten pot dictator would want to put American in this place. The question that you're saying, you're asking is, can we? And I would say we can today, or we at least prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, they were able to at least Vis-à-vis Russia. So what I just talked about, this elite capture, this ability to get elites to think in your favor. That's globalization, right? What? No, but it's the manipulation of globalization. So it's the use of weapons. It's a weaponization of globalization against the democratic principles. To take the war a bit further and this gets into your question about 5G so now you know how they go after the leads. It's really about putting their wealth at risk. How do you go after the population because as we talked about last time, John warden said, don't go after the population because it ends tends to backfire against you.

Russian Politician Demands Reparations From US in the Form of Alaska, California
"Turning back to demands like California and Alaska. So this is gaining some momentum there. In Russia, first of all, you've got Dmitri Medvedev Medvedev forgive me saying that we might have to put the U.S. in its place a very cryptic cryptic thing to say, well, simultaneously, you've got state news commentators. They're in Russia saying that they need reparations because of all these sanctions. These sanctions that the U.S. is putting on the country of Russia because of the devastation and destruction it's committed in Ukraine. By the way, I love sanctions. I'm a big believer in sanctions the best way, however, for all those sanctions to work is for everybody to be on board. So we need everybody joining us. We need to be holding hands as a world united against this evil monster that's killing so many people. So really important, we all be on the same page, which is why it's critical that China come to the table and work with us here. They have got a huge opportunity in front of them. Let's hope they take this anyway back to this idea that they would take California or Alaska. That's the commentator saying, we want reparations, you know, because this is going to be economic hardship for us, so you should suffer. We need California and Alaska talking about territorial expansion, right? They're saying we're not going to contain this just to Europe. I'm laughing. "Let's talk about this threat. This threat that's coming from a Medvedev, Dmitry Medvedev, who served as president, well, hand selected president we should say, hand selected by Vladimir Putin from 2008 to 2012, he says, and I quote, we might have to put you in your place, referring to the United States of America. You see, they're running out of options here. It's gotten so bad that Vladimir Putin is out now, trying to copycat Trump with his rallies. He just took to the streets and did this massive rally in the cameras were showing the thousands of people supporting him and he's talking about rah rah rah. And we have to save the people of Ukraine, save the people of Ukraine, when you think about all the lives they are destroying, and this madman wants to get out there and say we're saving the people of Ukraine. He is absolutely delusional. His intelligence surrounding this entire operation was disastrous to the point now where The Pentagon estimates 7000 soldiers Russian soldiers are now dead thanks to Ukrainian forces, 7000 soldiers, and then you have roughly four generals it's estimated that also have died. That's actually been confirmed for Russian generals have died. So this is not going well. This is not what he thought. He thought he could waltz in there and everybody would say ra ra, we're so glad that you're here. You're going to save us. The Ukrainian people. We want to be part of Russia. That's not at all what has happened.

Because that kind of that covers off both goings on in Acapulco, where Rafael Nadal has continued his I'm going to say this a couple of times, unbeaten starts to the 2022 season. And I can't believe it. Unbeaten start to the 2022 season. We haven't even gotten clay yet. No, or no, I know. It can only go downhill on clay. How is that? How is that the case? Is it 23 and O? 15. Where have I got 23 from? As I was saying it, I thought it sounded a lot 15 and all on hard. You've got to miss the favorite friend Indian Wells Catherine. Is that what's already thinking ahead two weeks? Well, he's unbeatable, David. He's categorically statistically unbeatable. So that's what happened in Acapulco. And in Dubai, Andrei Rublev won the title. Extraordinarily so. As I said in the final. So neither Medvedev nor Djokovic featuring in either of those finals, but it was beating Djokovic 6 four 7 6 in Dubai, his second victory over Novak Djokovic, he's two over Djokovic now, both times. Djokovic has been the world number one at the time of their meeting. It was that defeat from Djokovic that ensured that daniil Medvedev would become the new men's world number one today. And yes, it might have felt inevitable for a little while now even Djokovic didn't he last week sort of nodded to that and said, look, it's going to happen eventually. And when it does, he'll be worthy of it. And yet still it's seismic, isn't it? It is a drum roll please changing of the God. Have I gone too early on changing of the guard? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I think you have. But yet, look, it's a massive moment, isn't it? What's the stat matter in terms of Medvedev breaking in and being the one that there was a guard, David, the guard was the big four, and it has changed. But I just feel like they're going to call me. No one the phrase isn't permanent changing of the guard. Okay. Yes, I remember dev is the first man outside of the big four to be world number one since Andy Roddick. On the 1st of February 2004, when you were how old Matt, I was 7. So if that's not a changing of the guard, I don't know what is. I'll give you that one. I think in about 1999 and he then proceeded to lose in the first round of his next 6 tournaments. So, you know, it's one of those things. And around that time, there were a lot of changes of the world number one spot. I think pat rafter might have had it for about two weeks or two weeks, 6 days. I had it for 6 days, which Medvedev is guaranteed to pass. I think Medvedev guaranteed to have it for three weeks. It's like that there's the thing in for U.S. presidents where they surpass there was a president back in the day called William H Harrison that was only president for 40 days or something. Think he got ill or, you know, got consumption or something that people in the olden days got. And it's a thing when you when you surpass William H Harrison, so you're not the shortest lived president of the United States. Yes, folks, I learned that from veep. That's how I brow. Okay, so staying with staying with the sort of events that led to Daniel Medvedev becoming world number one. Novak Djokovic losing to Ye xiv, are you saying then that Djokovic Djokovic just has a Vasily problem and this is nothing to do with the form of Novak Djokovic. I mean, I know we just don't have enough data to go on on the form and we're not going to get any for a while because he won't be able to play Indian Wells or Miami but what's going on there? Why did he lose to you vesle? I think he does have a bit of a vaseline problem. He played so well first and foremost would be what I would say about that match. I think a lot of the credit goes to vaseline. He was in a position to win an even more comfortably and he got broken back when he was serving for the match for a 6 four 6 four win. And then I thought, okay, Djokovic has got him now. He's had that moment. He's fought back. He's got this incredible crowd on his side and yet vaseline did not go away. In fact, he upped his game from there and played the most wonderful tiebreak. He reminds me game style wise. I mean, I know he's been around a while. Actually, we've seen him play, but we haven't actually seen him play that much recently because he had COVID last year, which set him back. He was involved in a car accident as well, which took him a while to recover from. So he hasn't actually been on the scene much recently. He's dropped outside of the top 100. But game style wise, he does remind me a bit of manna Reno. In that he's got an incredibly flat backhand that he can just lean on and it can be quite deceptive with how hard he's hitting the ball, and yet he's a much bigger man than manner, you know, he's got additional power..

"Up a lady's final showdown with Danielle Colleen. Kim today is the 28th of January and we are here to catch up on the semifinals of the Australian open at passing shot headquarters. We now know our finalists. We've had two ladies semifinals yesterday two men's finals today. I feel like we're gonna have to deal with a lot of anger throwed our way on court by Daniel Medvedev, but I think largely it's been interesting a couple of days. I think a lot of fans perhaps would have liked the ladies semis to be a bit closer in terms of score line. But I think just looking on today and the men's action, I certainly think they lived up to their billing, didn't they? I think mostly, I think the men's semifinals did. I think Medvedev's pass ran away from us a bit at the end. I was expecting a slightly stronger fourth set. And bertini at times not quite at the races. It became, I think at times a parent that he has yet to actually beat Rafa, Djokovic Federer, maybe has a bit of a big three complex still in the way he turned up and performed. But generally speaking, obviously more competitive matches than R two ladies, semifinals. More angry matches as well. Yes, I mean, all the talk today has been about cats, hasn't it? In particular, well, let's start with Medvedev's pass, which was the nightmare. Medvedev had a little, I guess, meltdown, halfway through, classic Medvedev. And I did actually think that that would be, and I thought, oh, we self combusting again like he did in last year's final, but he managed to pull it together, not let it bother him and actually it was its basic ran out of steam as the match went on. It was that was a big flash point, I think, during the match, Medvedev getting really frustrated with surpassing and disappears coaching team antics. He felt that his box were kind of communicating with his capacity did eventually get a warning for coaching, I think, in the fourth set, but in the heat of the moment, Medvedev was not a happy customer. He was shouting at the umpire. The umpire not really doing a lot. I know there's been a bit of criticism I think of how the umpire handled it. I do sort of agree. I don't think he was necessarily assertive enough in the match. And in that situation, I think rightly so, you should have given Medvedev a warning given the things that he was saying to him, but he called time the match went on, never dev. I think when and drop served at the start of the think at the start of the third set, throwing in a double fault that was really, really wild. And I think it actually landed near the baseline to the audience's shock, but yeah, he did manage to kind of pull it together and then that force set really much. That really was a formality. It was actually quite interesting, I think, because as soon as he did get that warning for coaching in the fourth set to pass it, I don't think you won a game since. So read into that what you will. But yeah, for me, does point of view. For the final, he will want to think specifically about that first set because he was playing some of the best tennis. I've seen from him over the last 12 months or so, you know, we know how I think how much he loves playing on a fast hardcore and with his serve, his resilience as well at the back of the court, it really was a very, very tough nut to crack for his capacity. Although he went ahead in that tie break again Medvedev's mental strength, wrestled back control of the situation. He was kind of able to nab it 7 5. So I think for Medvedev, it was a good performance, but there were certainly, I think, certainly, I think things that he could improve on. But I think more or less he will be happy given he had spent what over four and a half hours against Felix OJ only a few days ago. Yeah, exactly. I think there were going to be question marks about how physically he was able to deal with it after such a long match and saving that much point. All the drama of the quarter final. But generally, I was impressed with what I saw from him today. I think he's certainly carving out this, I guess area of being the next one from the big three now. He's in his fourth Grand Slam final and going for his second straight slab, which I think there's a statistic, isn't there like a lot of people who win their maiden slam like very rarely go and win two in a row. I think Naomi Osaka did do that a couple of years ago with a U.S. Australian hold court double. But yeah, we'll get on to kind of predicting the final in a moment. But I think certainly I thought this was going to be a closer match than obviously there last year in the semifinals. And I thought it's possible to have a bit more than he did. But yeah, as for 6 passes, dad, that needs to be looked into because there's just like a constant coaching, isn't there? It was really strange because he had his face mask on. So I don't know if that was deliberate in the sense that he could kind of hide his mouth and movement of his mouth behind his face Mark. That was the sort of impression I was getting watching it on TV. But certainly, yeah, it was something that we've spoken about in previous past matches and although we were talking about what the U.S. opens is surpassing and toilet breaks. It feels like now the conversation is just gone on to sisa pass and coaching and it's just sort of one antic to another and I think a lot of players are looking at it like he's trying to use every trick in the book to gain an advantage and I think Andy Murray wasn't impressed by it and I don't think Daniel Medvedev certainly wasn't impressed by it. There is a part of me that thinks Medvedev could have handled it better..

"I mean, he was, you know, he's just. I mean, it wasn't even a particularly great Daniel Medvedev press conference tonight. Was it, but it was just sort of it was just great. As they all are. Yeah, again, I said to Simon, as we were shuffling out of the room, world number one him impress conferences, Daniel Medvedev, and he agreed, I think Simon, Simon mentioned how good Federer has always been in press conferences. But yeah, there must not miss his press conferences because he's going to open. He's going to be honest. He's going to reflect. He's going to have interesting things to say. He's going to be really polite when he says it as well. He's very, very good in the press room in the same ways very, very good on court as well. He really is sort of covering everything. Just on that point you made David about it being similar or reminding you of federal Djokovic. I sort of had the same thoughts and look who wins the federal Djokovic matches on a hard course in the slams. Always Djokovic and it can always feel like Federer is the better player because as you said or sits a pass in this case because he's hitting these incredible highs and doing these incredible things. But in the crunch moments, I think Medvedev's game style suits it more. He can go into a sort of lockdown mode whereas Medvedev does enough to take the risks. Doesn't have to take the risk, which sits about has to take and which Federer has to take and yeah, it's just a game style which I think lends itself more to high pressure moments. And then when you combine that with the incredible mental strength that Djokovic and Medvedev both have, it's so tough to beat even for players with the skills of Federer and sit surpass. Great watch, though, those first three sets are. One last bit of very minor I grow to touch upon. Is that Stefano soup to pass was eventually given a coaching warning in the third set, and this came about it transpires. As a result of Ava as Dirac Moore, the Greek umpire being assigned to stand underneath the stefanos sits a pass play as box. And listen out for coaching instruction being yelled by apostolos sits a pass, which is common, sits a passes been given warnings about it in at least two of his matches this fortnight, I think, think a lot more than that. I mean, it's a pass said himself. You know, it happens all the time. We barely even notices now. But you had everybody more loitering in the tunnel like a covert agent. Doing hand signals to the chair umpire to indicate he's done it, give him a warning. And the warning came and yeah, it was a very quirky little moment. And if you want to hear the very interesting things that Stefano sits at pass had to say about the fact that he is repeatedly getting these coaching warnings, then subscribe to the newsletter because my asked him about it impress after his in fact MacBook congratulated by the other journalists in the room for asking the question that they all wanted to hear the answer to, but to be fair to sit to pass best press conference of the fortnight today after his win he was yeah, he wasn't chippy. He wasn't as weird. He wasn't as he was more natural. I think he was just a bit more sort of off the cuff. And saying things as you saw them, I think, and you know, I didn't agree with a lot of the ways that he saw things. There are a few sort of logic failures in there. He sort of said he argued with the why he was getting coaching warnings because he said, look, it doesn't matter what my dad shouting. I don't hear it. He said, I'm so in my own world. I'm never going to hear anything my dad saying. You know, failing to understand that that is a matter if your coach is doing it. That's what you get to get the warning for. "Well, what a day it has been day four of the Australian open Matt and I have just got back after 13 hours on site covering a an extraordinary day of tennis. We were both up before the matches even started yesterday was a success, our body clocks are back on track. We were up early enough even to watch the channel line build up to the day's play. Which means pre 10 a.m. David, we were up early enough to watch or I watched a feature entitled anatomy of an upset. Detailing exactly how curios was going to pull off the impossible and Medvedev on the rod laver arena this evening. It did an age brilliantly folks. No, I mean, upsets was the theme of the day, just not that one. Yeah, anatomy of an upset, David. It was a detailed forensic analysis of how Nick curios plays his best against the best players in the world and he's fresh because he hasn't played any tennis in 8 months and my take on the match and I didn't watch as much of it as you, David, because there was a lot going on this evening Matt and I won the second court watching emirati plenty more of that later, don't worry. My take on Medvedev curios, though, and you can tell me if I'm wrong, is that actually curious? Did play is best. Yeah. His best is just scraping a set against Daniel Medvedev. Yeah, and I don't think we'll ever know. I suspect we'll never know throughout his career now, whether he's got another level in him, which might come of dedication and regular training and having a coach. Those are levels that I think Nick curios just career will never provide for us to tell us whether that would have been possible. But with what he's got right now, I think he did all of the things that in years gone by we would have said, I hope we see this from the curiosity. He came out. He was firing, he was dialed in. He was loosening himself up with a few off pace shots. He was digging into rallies. He was pushing Medvedev, and he even did something I wasn't expecting, which was to win the third set after losing the first two. Didn't expect that because I felt that that showed some real determination and mental strength to carry on and persist even though two sets of down.
