"And you just see his fastball and just hitting exactly where he wants to be. So if he can get that under control, he's not super comfortable if it's change up, but if he can throw a couple each game, he's going to be able to get back on track, but it really just comes down to those couple of centimeters with his wind up and delivery. And how do you think the rest of the rotation stacks up? Because we're just a few years removed here from the rockies having really a strong promising, largely homegrown rotation. And some of those guys are still around, whether it's Marquez or Freeland, but as a group, it's a little less fearsome than it once was. That's a good way to put it. It's really, it's really just marques and Freeland. Those two are super strong. I would expect Freeland are pretty good game. He looked really good in a world baseball classic, but behind that, they have Austin gomber, Ryan feltner and Jose arena. Gomber has some potential there. Is still developing. He still pretty early into his career and IRENA is kind of past his prime at this point, but still a passable starter, but they don't have any starting pitching depth right now. If somebody gets hurt, they're in trouble. All their top pitching prospects are like down and low way high a two to three years away. I don't see them being able to go out and find another starter if they need to because it's the rockies and they've never been able to do that. So last year at a rotation, what's the second worst in the league? I would be shocked if they're much better than not this year. Before we talk about any individual relievers, I want to ask a question about the team's philosophy to bullpen building because this has been a place where they have committed a one might argue curious amount of payroll. Over the last couple of years and they continued that trend with their extension of Daniel Bard last July. So what do the rockies think that the rockies are accomplishing by their approach to building a relief core? If I have learned anything in the last three years is that if you try to think too hard about what the rockies think they're doing, it's just going to give you a headache because they're really hard to explain they go one way they do all these extensions and then they just don't sign any top free agents the back that up or they go pick up a bunch of ads off waivers and they send all their profits down for no reason. So trying to figure them out is really hard. Like I said, kind of someone's starting pitching prospects, they don't have a lot of relief prospects to kind of help them out. So in order to build a bullpen, they had to go out and pick up guides wherever they could. So that was kind of what they did is off season. They picked a lot of guys off waivers. They made some small trades, they made a couple of free agents and a late in the game for them. But they really just needed bodies this year. And that's really all it comes down to. Where they concerned at all about Bard's performance in the WBC? I think they were concerned, but not concerned to the level where they think he had the gifts again. He really didn't look good when he left spring training to go join Team USA. He was kind of all over the place dad. So I don't think anybody was in the organization and was surprised with how he did considering how bad he looked before. But you know, he's had about a week. They've been able to play one from a little bit, kind of slow him down, but the thing about Bard now versus ten years ago is he has the mental understanding to kind of know, okay, I don't have the gifts again. I can call myself down and I can look at the video. I can practice it. He knows how to handle it now versus when he was a younger player. Looking up and down this step chart, you alluded to this earlier. Some players are past their primes and others are not nearly there yet. There aren't a lot of players who are sort of in that sweet spot. They're a lot of early 30s, mid 30s, players on this faster, which is not ideal if you don't have a good team, you hope that it's at least a young, bad team, so that you can kind of dream on guys getting better. So do you think that anyone here is really a candidate to be traded if, as expected, the rockies are out of it at the deadline, like, is there anyone there in visioning or that they picked up with an eye toward dealing midseason and maybe working in some younger players or is it just that the younger players aren't ready yet and someone has to play? You know, one word think they are thinking about trade deals already, but this team does not. I mean, Nolan Arenado, they traded obviously, but they do not typically make big trades. They didn't trade anybody laugh here at the deadline, even though they had CJ cron and Daniel Bard, who would have both been really good pickups for any contending team at the time. But they had like 7 free agents, I believe, after season, which is a lot for them. So one would think they would be trying to deal with some of those guys, but like I said, a really hard to read, if you think too much about what they're going to do, you really do get a headache. But I'm not entirely sure. The prospects, they were really hoping they were farther along, and it's kind of why they had to pick up some of these guys, but the thing that doesn't make a lot of sense about the rockies is they spent all off season. The whole second half of last year being like, we love our prospects. We're going to let them play, we don't really care what happens, but there are future, so we need to give them playing time. And then they kind of went out and got all these older players who will now take the playing time away from the prospects, which completely changes the direction they were trying to go in. So I'm not the strategy has changed. I don't know exactly know which direction they're trying to go in anymore, but they definitely will not be chipping off half the roster because they just won't do that. You mentioned the

"Understood. So Broncos have one receiver right now that fits the Sean Payton mold that you are familiar with. And that's Tim Patrick. Yeah, comes it, but he's coming off an ACL. And that's exactly a question there. Okay, it's going to be fun to watch. I actually hope that none of these guys move. It's just so we get to watch their feet get held to the fire. Which would be. Let's see how they respond. Yeah, right? And then see, if an example is made of them, if they don't, great way to send a message, right? I personally love it. Hey man, we're trying to upgrade. Basically, they're telling you, dude, we are looking anywhere we can to upgrade this position. And we even think that dipping back into the draft and getting ourselves a second rounder May a late first round or early second round there is a better option than you. I can't like, I can't even imagine when I was a player. You thinking you can dip back into the draft in the top three rounds and get a better player than me. That's a joke. That is like that to me is funny. Oh, please, by all means, go draft yourself mo elo in nibi. Outland trophy winner, mo, I love you in the first or second round and think that guy is going to beat me out. That's laughable. Laughable. Coming up. Morning brew, the abs, one last night, but the bigger story happened before the game. Tell you about it next. It's time for your morning brew, grab a cup of Joe and get caught up on everything you need to know. Excuse in Evans. The avalanche continued to roll now 6 wins in a row. They have now climbed into second place in the division, closing in on first place Dallas. A 5 zero win over Chicago last night, but Mark, maybe the bigger story is what happened before the game. Earlier in the day, gay land of skagg, skated with the team as part of the morning skate, no contact, no drills, but he was at least out there skating with the team. When you look at land stock, does he need to play in some regular season games? Before you could even think about playing him in the playoffs, or can you do what you did last year, and that is miss the final two months of the season. Jump right back into the playoffs and end up playing in 20 playoff games where he was 11 goals, 11 assists and a plus 15. Yeah, I think there's certain guys Mike that you wouldn't trust to do that. He'd be one guy that you would trust to slip right in. I don't know that you slip him in. To the second line, maybe give him a couple of games where he's a third or fourth line guy. Just kind of getting this proverbial feet wet. But he's the one dude. Like there's a lot of guys you don't trust to play. Without practicing. And then there's a few guys that you know regardless of the guy practices are not I was a guy, didn't need to practice all week. We'll go into a game and play. You can get Mike on the phone. You're Shannon on the bone. You didn't have to worry about that. There was certain guys, there's no way that you would do that with certain guys. Here's the difference though. Last year, you're right. He sat out the last two months of the regular season. He played during the place 51 games during the regular season. He has not played since they hoisted the cup on June 26th of last year. No, I'm saying there's a big difference, but the caveat is we've seen him do it in the past. And we've got that kind of respect for him. At least he skate with the team. He's just not on the empty rank. And the other part of the rink building. They don't have their own building. They got to go to the family fun center or wherever. This skating out there with a bunch of 7 year olds. Watch out. Get out of the way, I can't stop. It's like me. Next on the morning brew. That's going to be big time. It's going to be this world baseball classic has been fantastic. When does it start? What time is that game started? 5, I believe. Did that thing, I'm putting that on. That's going to be great. By the way, you see the Japanese pitcher throwing a 102. Just throwing absolute cheese. I tell you what, man, this is awesome. Really good stuff. It's been great. Great baseball. And it's one of those events that you probably look at as a fan of sports fan or baseball fan and you're like, let's check it out. But the enthusiasm and the passion shown by the players. Yeah. Also, the sell out crowds as well. It's so infectious that you can't help but be drawn into it. You're drawn into it rather than you go in with a lot of excitement, then you tend to get disappointed as a sports fan because the event does not live up to the hype. This is a case where you're like, oh, let me check it out, and you're like, wow, wow. This is great. Yeah. And the players absolutely are loving it. And have a couple of guys gotten hurt. By the way, our very own Daniel Bard. He was the one that knocked out a Jose Altuve, with that busted hand. Guess who the worst pitcher by far has been for Team USA? Damn bar. That'd be Daniel Bard. "To you by our Patreon supporters. I make really a fangraphs and I'm joined as always by Ben Lindbergh of the ringer Ben how are you. I'm laughing 'cause I goofed this the first time it didn't didn't though. I almost tripped at the finish line, but I feel like I got through, you know? This is how I am. USA, USA. Wow. Yeah. That's quite loud. Yeah, how you are as loud. Yeah. What a weekend at the WPC. I'm not an unpatriotic person, but I'm also not someone who expresses my patriotism through sporting events. Typically, because what does it really prove about a country? To win an a single elimination baseball game in a two week baseball tournament or any other sporting event for that matter. That said, pretty exciting baseball this weekend for all Team USA. Yeah. I mean, I think that there were some potential low lows, but then there were, then there were grand slams, so I didn't matter if those little lows didn't come back to manifest even though. It looked like they might. And I was mostly just enjoying the environment and the energy in those games. Like when Team USA went down in the quarterfinal after we arrived hit two homers in a game for the first time at least since he's been a pig leaker. I was like, all right, yeah, good job, team Venezuela. I have to hand it to you guys. So I was still sort of I wasn't really down in the dumps about the fact that TB USA was losing at that point, but then the comeback was incredible. So I mean, that was absolutely a playoff atmosphere on a Saturday in mid March, which was great. So I was editing our Patreon bonus pod, which we recorded on Saturday, and I was not making great time because I was so absorbed in that back and forth contest. I was just a great advertisement for the WBC. Yeah, it was a great amount of fun. It would be rude to pick this net. Would it be meant to pick in it? They wanted. So it's especially not rude. Look, I don't want to make any feel bad. I don't want to say that anybody is bad at managing a baseball team. I'd be bad at managing a baseball team. But here's the thing. I feel like I feel like maybe we could have a folks with more or in some cases any coaching experience in the dugout. Like we've talked in these proceedings about how one of the projects for Team USA, if they want to really continue to advance the WBC as a tournament and they're standing within it is to think about how to attract deeper starting, pitching, and we say there was no disrespect to incentive to Lance Lennon or anyone else. But our very best are not represented on that side. I know that the bullpen has taken some offense to the suggestion that the pitching is bad. So I will be specific and say that the starting pitching could probably improve. Also it would be nice to have a long man in the bullpen. But I get like it's fun to see to see some guys to remember some guys in the dugout. But why was Daniel Bard in that game for so long? You know, like, he was in there, Ben. He was in there for so long. And that was bad for him, it was bad for Jose Altuve, who we should note is going to be out for 8 ten weeks with a broken thumb. And I hated being forced to feel the way I did that. Because there was simultaneously filled with great concern for the Venezuelan hitters because Daniel Barr clearly had no idea where the ball was going. And also, I worry and this was not a thought you need to be like, are we watching him re develop the gifts? Like, are we? Seeing that and so why are you putting my drawers away putting him in that spot? Like, don't do that. Also,

"On Sunday was 14 to two, and that game was made possible for the U.S. by what happened on Saturday night when the United States played Venezuela in a wild and crazy game of lead changes. The U.S. trail and Turner came to the plate with the bases loaded. Here's the O2. Swinging a fly ball. Left field deep, did he do it? Yeah, so the U.S. won that game 9 to 7 in Taylor, Sarah. That was so much fun to see the emotion in the U.S. players. A lot of times in the WBC through the years, we've seen it with players from Puerto Rico, seen it with players in the DR. To see it from the U.S. players is pretty cool. What did you think? Oh my God. Absolutely incredible. I mean, what a spot. What an atmosphere and these guys love playing playing with each other. I think Nolan Arenado said that he loves playing with Trey Turner. I mean, it's cool to see these guys slap together even for just a couple of games and really enjoy it. And I think we've hit like a turning point with the WBC, like everyone is enthralled, including this podcast. Yeah, Sarah. Yeah, it's been so much fun to watch. And you know, USA baby, all day, every day. Patriot, let's go. So I'm really fascinated by Trey Turner now, going into this year, joining the Phillies being part of this incredible lineup. I had my idea about who would be the national MVP pick, but now I'm kind of, I'm kind of wondering, Trey Turner with four home runs in the WBC. Hot ticket is brought to you by vivid seats where you earn rewards with every purchase. Vivid seats rewards is your ticket to more tickets. Vivid seats, life happens live. And look, the WBC has been a ton of fun that obviously, after what happened to Edwin Diaz last week and after what happened with Jose Altuve over the weekend, there's also a separate conversation about how teams feel about this. Here's Jose Altuve facing Daniel Bard on Saturday night. The

"Jeff passing, you have been telling us today about Japanese pitcher roki sasaki, the monster of the day era and what he's been through as a player, but I also want to go back into roky's backstory. What was sasaki's early life like? He grew up in iwate prefecture, which interestingly enough. It's the same place that Shohei Ohtani grew up in and while it is the second largest in terms of square miles of all of Japan's prefectures, which are like states. It's 32nd in population. So it's not a densely populated city. It's more of a rural type area. And it was unfortunately the location on March 11th, 2011 of the tohoku earthquake that struck the east coast of Japan and caused the tsunami. Good evening today, 126 million people watched their world crumbling around them. The earthquake 8.9, one of the biggest ever and then 35 minutes later, the tsunami racing at the speed of a jumbo jet. If you recall Sam, this was one of the biggest natural disasters we've ever seen. A catastrophic tsunami rising out of the Pacific. It's huge wave sweeping away everything in its path, a massive wall of water that rose as high as 30 feet swallowing up parts of Japan. Nearly 20,000 people died. Today's events remind us of just how fragile life can be. Our hearts go out to our friends in Japan and across the region, and we're going to stand with them as they recover and rebuild from this tragedy. And among those who pass that day were roki sasaki's father and his paternal grandparents. Wow. So Jeff, in a lot of ways, I mean, that does connect with sasaki start against the Czech Republic in this world baseball classic. I mean, that game took place on March 11th. The national day of mourning in Japan meant to remember and honor the victims of that natural disaster, what did your reporting reveal to you about his emotions on the mountain that day? I would love to use my words here to describe this, but I'm gonna instead tell you what Hideki koriyama, who is the manager for samurai, Japan, as the Japanese national team is called. And on that day, about roki sasaki. He said, he pitched every single pitch with his soul. And his performance gave us a lot of energy. I'm not talking about his velocity. It's not talking about the speed. It's hard to explain, but to me, it's as if he's throwing his soul. Not the baseball. Wow. And roki sasaki Sam has been hesitant to discuss what happened with his family that day. Understandably so. It's a sort of tragedy that defines a person's life or can overwhelm them. He was 9 years old. When he lost his father and his grandparents. And I think that baseball has been a salve for him. It's been something that he has poured his energy and his heartbreak into and he really has embraced the concept of wa. But it's not necessarily with the team. I think that there's a symbiosis with roki sasaki and baseball. He's found this harmonious relationship there where he can take something that was the ultimate and sadness and he channels it into greatness. And when you watch roki sasaki pitch Sam, if the word greatness isn't among the first that comes to mind, then you're just not looking at the same thing as everyone else. It's really remarkable and I love those words from the Japanese manager. I think everybody can understand the sentiment that he was getting at there. I remember Jeff in that game against the Czech Republic, there was also another incident that kind of a long the lines of what you were just saying that seemed controversial in the moment, but actually turned into something a little bit different in the way that sasaki handled it. Can you tell us a little bit about what happened with him and William escala on the Czech Republic? You know, sometimes pitches get away. And when pitchers get away, you can have really bad things happen, like Jose Altuve breaking his thumb when Daniel Bard hit him in the quarterfinal game between Venezuela and the United States. And you can have dare I say sweeter endings. Leave a scholar got hit by a 100.9 mph fastball from roki sasaki. Not gonna feel good. Oh man. At a 101. I would venture to say that William escala has probably never been hit by a 101 mph fastball before. And row key sasaki felt so bad about it that he got like a huge bag filled with Japanese candy. Of course, lotte of the chiba lotte marines is a company that makes all kinds of candy. And yes, all very good, all very good. I must say. All delicious. And he was able to take the candy, bring it over to William escala, and apologize with both candy, as well as a signed ball. The ball, in fact, that tattooed his leg. Amazing. Well, Jeff, obviously sasaki is a huge story during this tournament, but there have been a lot of other fascinating storylines that have popped up during the WBC and we'd be crazy to let you out of here without going over some of them. What has stood out for you the most during these last couple of weeks of this tournament? It's just the energy Sam. When you wear your country's name, there's just more meaning to it. And I've been down in Miami for the entirety of the WBC. And the first game that was played in prime time here in Miami was between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. I didn't go as a reporter that day. I took my family and I wanted my two sons and my wife to understand what baseball culture can be like because they've been to games at stadiums around the country. And they understand what the vibe is like. They're it is completely different when the DR and Venezuela two teams that really don't like each other very much or playing one another and when you have two fan bases who are so passionate about baseball. To be able to take the winter ball vibe.

"Even if you're a die hard fan, you watch a lot of rocky spaceball, Mike. Oh, yeah. In all honesty, off the top of your head quickly. Name 5 guys. Rogers would be one of those guys. One of those guys, Charlie blackman, Chris Bryant, roger, some of the pitchers, Marquez, Kyle Freeland, Daniel Bard, and then right, then it starts, then I have to start thinking a little bit. Right, but you think about you think about it. I mean, I watch, drew Romo, the catcher. Yes. Dude, I will watch ridiculous amounts of rocky baseball, especially early in the spring until summertime rolls around and spring training starts again. And beyond Rogers, name one other good young positional player. Honestly, man, I can't. So there goes one guy that you can name, yeah. Right. Far down Terry tubby did I just say for around telete. Why do you like this? How did I get tummy out of that? I don't know, but four down terror tummy. Teletubbies were kind of scary. Oh, the teletubbies freaked me out. I don't like that. I did not like to tell it to me. I was not in the teletubby generation. We were talking just last week about how good kids TV has been. Over the last 20 years, not the teletubby. Have you had a chance to kind of download and watch bluey? No, I have not yet. You got to get some blue in. Okay, this weekend, that's your side. I'll tell you what. My wife's going out tonight with some friends. I have nothing to do. I'll sit down and binge bluey, okay? Yes, right before the nuggets play. That's right. And then boom, move on. Binge bluey. And I'm gonna binge on Nikola Jokić. Four down territory coming up next. "I think you need a starter, a young starter or two to get you to that postseason. And I think I would not give him that much money. I think that at this stage of his career would be too much. Okay, I mean, that's fair. You're always obviously I mean, like you said, I think it would be 32 or something like that. And he's four years old. Would you? No, it's tough. You know, I would honestly, this is gonna be a cop out. I would see if I could get a little bit into the season. And some players don't want to talk during the season. Like, you know, that happens. I would rather them invest that money in free agents under the age of 30. And also invest heavily do what Tampa Bay did. And I know you know where I'm going with this invest in the bullpen. Get stronger arms in the boltman because that's why they didn't advance this year. Yeah, so and we had a lot of producers right about this today. Brian Barrett good about and he's right that you're right, tracks. I don't disagree with anything you're saying. Why everyone's focused so much on E rod and Verlander and WALL-E and these guys, I'm bloom's biggest thing right now is building that bullpen. Needs to be. It needs to be for a couple of reasons. Number one, you don't have the guys out there right now. Number two, you know, what do you want to do with whitlock? I mean, I can make cases both ways on I will make a definitive case in one way and you know where that would be. Open. Yes. God closer. Which, you know, it's an interesting one, right? Because about, you know, like, ten years ago, it would be it was a Daniel Bard thing. Right? It's like, well, he presents much more value in the starting rotation. Put that argument. But you know what? Like, maybe it was a debate then? Now it's like, you know, the way that things are lined up because you're starters only are going to be allowed to go two times through the order. You desperately need a guy like him in the bullpen. Right. And so you're pitching him, let's say you're pitching him three times a week instead of one time a week. So you make a good case. But not how kids going to be your number four starter. Who? Tanner hauck. Right, but again, right? I mean, it's going to be ordered. You got to get some relievers. It's going to be sale right now. It's sale of all pavetta in Tanner help. That's and then see what happens with the 5th. Yeah. And but I think again, you can't discount to your point about the bullpen. You can't discount that these guys. It's just not how it used to be. I mean, the amount of times I forget how many times they had their starters pitched 7 in England. I think it was like 12 times or something like it was ridiculous. I mean, and it's just how it is. And I think that Cora has embraced this, certainly more than he had three years ago..

"And I think, look, here's the thing about it. People who say it's just going to be Tampa Bay north or insane, because first of all, if you can get the system working like Tampa Bay has and all of a sudden here comes wonder Franco and all these young players and pitchers who you've never heard of, who are great. Sign me up for that. But guess what the Red Sox are going to do that the rays will never do. They're going to also spend enormous amounts of cash. So in modern baseball, you look at the Astros. You look at the Dodgers. These teams have waves of young prospects that not only can come up and help you the big league level. But that's the reason the Dodgers were able to trade for Max Scherzer and trade Turner. And all these teams are able to manipulate and make moves because they've got depth in the minor league system. It's the only sustainable way to win. The Red Sox will keep their superstars around like Devers and bogarts. They will build from within. They might have another wave of superstars with guys named Tristan casas and some others and Nick York. And Marcelo Meyer, these guys are coming, and then you still have the checkbook and the financial ability and heft to go out and make the big moves. So to have both puts you in an unbelievable position of strength. You brought up Daniel Bard. And you know where I'm going to go with this? Let's hear it. Matt Barnes. And obviously, he did not have the second half that the Red Sox Alex core made reference to this, of course, that they still believe he is a big part of their plans. But it was precipitous. I mean, obviously, he missed the two weeks or two, two and a half weeks with COVID. But the fall off was precipitous, I believe the stat was he didn't have save after August 5th. And it just, there was no production and he couldn't find the plate, and it was that painful at times to watch him on the mound trying to find command. For a will. What do you think the problem was? And do they have deep down deep belief that he'll bounce back in 2022? I love a good two parter, Mike. I can't look in their souls, but I will tell you that they have to be concerned. And they are a little bit with Matt. He's been so overworked. I think maybe four or 5 times he's had more than 65 appearances in seasons, and it sure looked like he really hit a wall this season. And maybe that's because of the shortened COVID year last season and now another big workload. The one thing that you kind of hold your breath and hope on is that the change in the rules in big league baseball is not the reason that that Barnes kind of fell off the clip. Because if you look at the before and after when big league baseball really started to crack down, it's a troubling sort of split. Look, I don't think anybody's writing Matt Barnes off at all. He's had such a pedigree. He was just an unbelievable all star caliber reliever. I think big league baseball is going to try some new prototypes of baseball's coming up here that are already like pre tacky. And we'll see how that goes into spring training next year. "Make up and one of them is how the Colorado Rockies lost last night here. They're playing a team. Colorado Rockies have been tremendous at home, tremendous one of the top 56 teams in all of baseball. With a home record of, uh, that the Rockies have not. There's only four or five teams that have a better percentage. I think the Rockies here at 64%. Uh, they win 64 4% of their games at home. That's huge. However, they've won 16% of their games on the road, so they go down early last night. Three Nothing before they even get their second time up to bat. They battled back open place. Tired bullpen pitchers. Well, they tie the game in the seventh. Now we go into the ninth and Daniel Bard to feel good story from last year E comes in. Gives up a couple singles walks a guy. It's a guy, um And then Hits when he hits that guy. It gives the Rockies it gives Arizona uh he hits the guy with the bases loaded. So Arizona ends up, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Ladies and gentlemen, you can't make that stuff up. Uh, so rockets will go at it again tonight. Um Against the Diamondbacks. Then they close against the red hot San Diego Padres. And just think about this. What if the Rockies we're just playing close to 500 on the road? Six and 32. Let's say there. Uh, you know, 15 and 23 on the road. I mean, that would be huge. Uh, they'd really be more competitive. They're pitching has been beyond unbelievable. We had Clint Hurdle on yesterday. And he talked about you know how the Rockies have defied the odds as far as being our pitch so well at home and having the winning record they have had Um, this year at home, so Rockies will play again tonight. They close in San Diego Friday, Saturday, Sunday and then the All Star Game, and earlier, we had Matthew Pain on from the Denver Sports Commission. And the big event. Uh, the five K All Star run slash walk. Saturday morning. Nine o'clock at Civic Center Park. Great Opportunity to get out see downtown Denver and you can go to MLB dot com backslash All Star and register and all the money goes to the Colorado Rockies Foundation to help at risk youths. And people less fortunate than you and I Um I told you that Roger Federer was losing Roger Federer got swept in three sets. So Roger Federer is out there playing all the quarters today. The semis will be, um I believe on Friday and then you'll have the finals on Sunday real quick on that. I know you're a big tennis fan. With Roger Feder. He basically withdrew from tournaments leading up the one my more than to prepare. This has been as his Mode of operation the past few years. But now he's out in the quarterfinals at where more than 39 years old Is this the end of a great era? Is this the end of his run? I think you make too great points. I think between Serena Williams, who's pushing 40 if she's not already 40 Roger, who's pushing? You just said he's 39. He's going to be 40 this year. Um, you know, it's time to, uh Probably turned the page and and let them Ah. You know, retire with dignity. You know, I think the hardest thing to do and I'm definitely not one of them. The hardest thing to do is tell someone that competitive in professional sports. That you no longer can play the game at the level you want, And that's why, When you see people retire, they cry I and and because it's all they've known. And, you know, I give Elway credit. You know, Elway walked away. Uh, Elway wins the Super Bowl and walks away. And how rare is that? You know? No, not very many people get to go out on top like that. The only other person that comes to mind for me is Ray Lewis. Maybe when he won that that Super Bowl. But you know, usually the greats fall and they don't get to go out on top like they were most of their career. I mean, Peyton Manning was Kind of pushed, not pushed out. But Peyton Manning wasn't at the top of his game and then retired. He was a shell of himself. That last defense won the Super Bowl. Yeah, so, um, yeah, it might be the end of Roger and and Serena. Um, did I tell you I'm going to the U. S open? What I'm going to the U. S Men's Open man. The semifinals on Friday night, September 10th That'll be so much. That's one of my bucket list event. So what I've never been. In fact, I told my friend yesterday I've never been to a non exhibition professional tennis match. I've been to those exhibitions that Saw Borg and Connors and but I've never seen him play for real. And, uh, you'll be at the semifinals in the final. You're going to see the best of the best. Don't be so much fun so Here. I'm gonna tell you real quick, because I don't think I've told Linda the whole thing. But I'm going to the semis of the U. S. Open on Friday night. September 10th. Saturday night. September 11th. It's the Yankees and Mets at Citi Field. On the 20th anniversary of 9 11 and then Sunday. There's a team from Denver playing the New York Giants Sunday afternoon in New York. Now I'm talking quiet, so my wife won't hear me. So I'm slipping out Friday afternoon. U S Open Friday night. Yankee Smits Saturday Broncos Giants Sunday. I'm back at nine o'clock Monday morning. What a weekend, man. So my goal is to get Linda Real drunk. Put her to bed on Friday night and have her wake up Monday and go. Hey, Hey, Where were you? I'm just getting honey. Honey, I'm kidding. My wife is Would never do that. All right. "New start throwing through with various wwf w. whatever intro songs. Now 'cause drew drew's coming out here. He's on fires always talking about this rockies team good or bad we're getting fire from drew craftsman of dnv iraqis drew. How are you my friend. Loving it loving the stone cold feeling it feeling the love. Does it make you just want to like drink. Eighteen years in a row and think about right now things called facts. Come out on a truck. You know something like that. The bottom line notice he never drank beer to smashed up and then it was like gotta you know. I don't blame him up for a while at the sometimes. Don't you wish like when the rockies are really struggling and especially on the road they could just do stuff like that. That would be so entertaining we start. Seeing a hockey has a little bit of that with fights. We were just talking about that. With landy what he did last night. But sometimes i just want to see that kind of stuff man like stop in the middle of the game and you start going into the corners of the court cheering fans. I can make that happen. Why dr. i'm. I'm for it it it really is someone who's still new hockey and still getting used to some of that stuff. Watching that last night was while just the way everyone totally fully celebrate it. They're announcing it. Like the announcers like ooh got the gordie howe hat trick now. They like announced at the end of the game. That the alan roach is going. Yeah like go. Spend it for twenty five k. Else gets you knocked out. I think it's crazy like it's a stat you like. You just said with gordon patrick. It's like well. He registered a goal to assist and a fight. Like i fight and i'd register staff. I get killed. But i'd have a hockey game. It's like i don't know. Yeah we gotta start. We need to believe it or not. Baseball needs more stats but fun one. After nonsense that nobody can understand. We need like backflips. Why are we keeping track of that flips. Wouldn't you like to know who the league leader mbappe flips is. How about backflips on outs. I'd be very curious about to flip on out. I m kind of curious. That i would be interested right. You need to know somebody's. Drc plus bat sound out drew. Okay what this team came. I'm trying to find a transition bud. Black doesn't believe in the coors field hangover. It's like there's clearly something going on here. what. I what is happening. I really hope that's just him being sick and tired of talking about it and and giving a sort of and look the other thing is you know there's nothing that he can do about the coors field hanging over a fact and it's also true and a lot of people tend to mix this up 'cause when you talk about the coors field hangover effect for. I don't know half the people out there maybe more. It sounds like you're making an excuse. For why the rockies are bad and i'm here to tell you with absolute certainty folks that both of those things can be true at this particular moment they are the rockies offenses both not very good and especially not well suited to deal with something that i've looked i've done the research probably done more research on this than anybody who's never worked for the rockies and maybe more than people who have but the core sealed hangover effect is very very real. That doesn't mean that you can't do anything about it. That's the difference between an excuse and a reason. Excuse the sun was in my eyes right. The rockies need to be aware of and prepare for the changes that happened with baseball movement. Both from the pitcher's hand to the plate and off of the bat when they go on the road. It's a different environment. It just isn't if you're not prepared for it you're going to get eaten up by and that's exactly what's happening right now. This team just isn't to hit on a road. No rockies team really is but this one's a specially poorly bit for it. Yeah no question about an especially coming off. The heels of a very strange series over the weekend drew a had some great split with the reds which that was great but a lot of missed opportunities in that series. And of course you know knowing you have sandiego coming up. I would have been really nice if the rockies found a way to do it because they had they had two games. I mean he could have swept this team. They were that close. It was crazy they should have swept with a a semi competent bullpen. They sweep that series Easily you know. It's none of the games should have even been particularly close right that last one in las up six one going into the eighth inning that's not a close baseball game with the competent bullpen We you know. Obviously the one where they're up can nothing that and then it got kinda close and they pulled away still a little bit and then the other one that they lost it was another bullpen implosion. And it's just like yeah. That's it's brutal for sure You know you like seeing the emergence of the young hitters and you know great stories and josh point as and caller joe and stuff like that but it is kind of brutal when at the end of the night. You're still walking off the field with a loss because a handful of dudes just couldn't throw strikes And and that's the other thing too. These aren't even like your standard bullpen. Implosion of your of brian. Sean way davis You know leaving cutters right over the middle of the plate that get deposited four hundred fifteen phoebe on the fence. At least the guy had hit the baseball you know. They lost the game the other night on like five walks two wild pitches. The tying run and winning run both came in on wild pitches in the ninth inning. Giving almost literally giving the baseball just like you. You mentioned it was with brian. Shaw with those kind of guys. Wade davis they at least had a history. Where when they went in there. You didn't just expect. Oh boy. wheels are coming off. You thought it was going to be really tight. There might be some issues here and they're right now. It feels dangerous. It's dangerous when starting pitcher can't go. Let's just say if you don't have a starting pitcher that can go eight innings. Everyone terrified right now. I mean absolutely terrified of what could happen. Ten runs in an inning. Doesn't really shock anybody. Yeah i mean who does budlong can the baseball to. There's really nobody out there. Michael given who really had been as best guy all year was the one most responsible for the collapse in the finale. Where they didn't get the series win against the reds. And you know daniel. Bard has just been shaky all season and there's really nobody have if you other guys that have been decent as of late. Have not robert stevenson. There's no one. There's no one out there to baseball. I feel for bud black. They're right they didn't even a couple of these games where Since the a went you're right you because you at eight innings talent. Chichi gonzales both wentz seven and ended up being One of those games lost the game was way closer than it should have been. And you're like that's not That's this is an historically bad bolton which is really unfortunate because i mean drew. Correct me. If i'm wrong but coming out the gates i don't have numbers in front of me but it does seem like this. Starting pitching core has been collectively..
