Esports Engine's New CEO On Building Storylines in Esports
"Storylines perspective. How could be sports do a better job at and how can use Sports engine in particular use the company's role at the center of Esports to help build those story lines as well? Yeah. It's a good question. It's worth highlighting a little bit when I was being robbed. Rooted from the UFC to go to Activision. I remember the chief strategy officer who had a relationship with previously and we were speaking and he said, you know, there are so many similarities with what the US seem to overcome to where to where e Sports is and and those similarities are as I mentioned in one case in the UFC everyone thought these were just bar room Brawlers. They weren't skilled Fighters found in these Sports everyone believes. These are Gamers who are sitting in someone's basement with mushrooms growing under their feet and they're not really dedicated committed people. And so and neither one of those things are true. But how do you convince people that they're not true and and it is through storytelling. The other thing that was similar is as I mentioned the outset there's this really impassioned community and fan base that become the profitability proselytizers for you and the initiative and you've gotta stay true to that fan base to grow and sort of create that Network effect. And that's a very similar thing because if you're a gamer and you want to suck Better or be entertained a great way to get that entertainment or education is by watching Esports. So you've got those people but how do you expand it to the question that you asked and I do believe is driven through personal stories and those stories are generated through creative people. They everybody's got a compelling story. This is what we always believe that in a in the old UFC. You would hear Dana White's say these are the fighters. We have to promote them where the promoters we need to make people care about them everybody. Even if you think they're boring or they don't speak English, whatever it is. It's our job to find a way to make them interesting. I think that sort of myopia in terms of what our objective is and I think Publishers think about this I think platforms think about this long and it's just how do you execute on the stories? Cuz everyone will tell you oh, it's storytelling. Oh we have to, you know, make the players more relatable and make people care about them, but the magic and doing that is get off. Really creative people who know the right questions to ask who know what's happening within culture to try to drive connectivity. So, you know, my son is a sneaker head, you know sneakerheads are a thing down one's interested in this and you might find the most boring athlete who all of a sudden has a sneaker collection that you can find a way to expand that and I think what makes us unique at home. It's engine is one we have real passion from top to bottom within the company of people who live and breathe gaming they live and breathe not only the game and often the strategy in the competition related to the play. But also they understand what the community is interested in what they like. So with that applying that to them bringing in really creative people who have that same passion and giving them the freedom to to dream and create and ultimately then the next step is to execute on the vision is really what Esports. Yep. as we've got the creative minds we've got the passion talent that understands the community and we've got the resources in terms of how to get the full story and the message over the line and in our space we are really you know an extra set of fingers or hands you know to help the Publishers and the platforms who wants to create content we help them achieve their goals that's our job we don't win unless they win and when they come to us with an idea and if they want to drive more interest in their game in terms of Engagement you know activating their current fan base when they want to expand their fan base and use any of the content we create to grow their fan base we have the kind of resources and creative people that can sit down and work with them and help them to see the world in a way where they can invest in these stories it's always dead A bit of

UFC featherweight champ defends title in split decision
"I Will Fight Island was officially christened tonight for the UFC in Abu. Dhabi there was no baptism to be had in the main event of UFC two fifty one. What's going on everybody? Welcome to the official. You have to fifty one post fight. Show here on, May, finding dot com I'm Mike Heck location this week from Boston Massachusetts visiting the parents this weekend. That is Jose Jose. Main Event Kamara, who's been retains a welterweight title against Whore Mazal. Challenger looked pretty darn good in that first round. I'm pretty surprised that judges gave in that first round, but it was the much fresher champion that was able to sort of chip away at the always game, or hey mazda throughout the fire Ab. Fresher champion but Komo. Zeman was basically been in camps since beginning of this year, despite was like Ben Booked and booked in both supposed to fight earlier this by giving burns, and also muzzle steps in, so yes, he's finally fresher because he he's had the full camp and everything but I think Kamara wasn't one hundred percent in that fight, either considering this long extended, Feick at Ala, similar to twenty Ferguson with all these these these fights falling apart, but Kamara who's been one nonetheless, might not have been the most exciting fight. I saw a couple of tweets complaining about the fight and I really take that. I felt it was a lot of fans that were on this very muzzle hype train. He's on the video game cover on this baptism round the resurrection Super Necessary Punches bef tile, and that they were expecting violence, even mice I myself said fight between WHO's minimize well probably has a higher chance of ending in a violent way, but it did not come out who's been one I had them winning all five rounds the first round I guess. Didn't really matter to me. Who won that? I still come who's been what at least four of the rounds comfortably? The people complain about. The foot stopped the wrestling the headbutts. That stuff will come out. Who's been did what he had to do to win. That's exactly why I thought he would. Take, her might as well because all the time Mazal taking this fight on short notice. Kamara also took this fire. On short notice gets an extra a completely different fighter between Gilbert Burns as well. It's completely rechange leftist camp Had his new trevor wittman is corn for the first time fighting the guy all this bad blood is in the air all the pressures on him, and perform a like we ourselves, said all the pressures on who's Madonna not not a whole lot on Mazal, but at the end of the day. Who's been doing what he had to do? I didn't have a problem with the way fought. Might not have been the most exciting, but if I was going to pick up, predict away whose men would pull this off. This is exactly how I thought he would do it. Yeah, when you get a fight like this and you have a guy as hot as MAS. Bat brings in a lot of the casual fan base. Does your watch? As many events as we watch, and some of the hardcore fans watch everything so most people expected this fight to go exactly that way I thought the first row was going to be the most interesting round, obviously, because of Mazda was going to get it done. He's probably going to have to do it in the first five minutes, and this is the fire. We got like Mara. Who's been defends his title. For the second time. It was another classic who's been like performance and he gets a one-sided win and highly anticipated main event so in the end. We like to talk about the overall letter grade, but it felt like just kind of looking at the time slot when we're all said and done. We're getting ready to hit record here. We're just like man this is this is super late like I feel like the card and the whole night in a weird way. Wet Kinda slow did it not. started off really really quickly. Might just. Like I feel like the first few flew by and all of a sudden I had been watching fights for two and a half three hours and I'm like wow, this fight is cars going quickly I like this pace, and then we the main card and Amanda he boss comes in, and just submits patriots immediately i. wish went exactly as I expected, but then there was decision with Rosen on drugs, and then even Yawn Aldo finish, but it was in the fifth round, so there's still basically fought for twenty five minutes, and then we get twenty five minutes, Vulcanology Holloway and then we get twenty five minutes of in Mazda, also of these we've seen. We saw that graphic on the screen like. All the cards are three title fights, and like we used to fourteen had like Woodley Maya in Jones, a cormet and Cyborg Abinger, and then to seventeen to five those had some bangers like like two to seventeen had three epic fights three like violent, like just three of the craziest finishes you'll see. And then, of course to a five, the CONOR McGregor show, and then to seventeen had the DC Jones trilogy, so I think we're a little maybe. We'll. We'll spoiled on these three. These three title fight cars while we're expecting something like that and I loved all all great fights off spectacular fights, but I think a lot of fans are tuning in to see fight island. In the Mazar strain, all these title-fights might have been. A limited. I could see why they might have been little disappointed. I didn't have a problem with it, but probably was the night Dana White wanted in terms of finishes. Yeah, the main event may have disappointed some people but for. The Sake, this is like the best thing that could have happened for the welterweight division like if you're burns. Edwards these guys are pretty happy right now. Especially Gilbert Burns. One hundred percent I mean we. We set it on count after it was on what the heck or or post eyesore produce. All kind of blend together at this point in the summer, but we. We said if Moslem Dole wins. That's going to be a problem for the US's pockets the welterweight division I mean. We were talking about him fighting the bringing the both belts so that the Conor McGregor. The table and all this. Kamara who's been one and it's? It's a no brainer that Gobert burn gets three matches. Suppose he should've been fighting tonight. before covid nineteen October, nineteen. That's applaud the car, so yeah, for all the way division, and the the the martial art fans of the world that don't like quote unquote. Holding divisions I think that's a good thing, but I. Honestly I love chaos at Moscow had one I. Think I, think it would have been fun time in the world of May. And Mazda all. Let's be clear. We all know this. He was the a side heading into this fight. He's the reason. There was a lot of buzz and a lot of fanfare when you had a guy like game bread in the street that he's on. That's what happens, but a lot of people wanNA know where he goes from here. Because despite losing the fight tonight, he still has a ton of options moving forward. Chaos can still rain in some way Jose. Can you say that again? You cut off quick second. Chaos can rain. For horny Mas at all got about it because he's got so many options moving forward despite the loss tonight. Yeah, I mean Hoy Mazdas. All I'm Kamara. WHO's been himself set like he's GonNa. He's like. He's like he's GonNa. Lose all these like excuses. Bill didn't talk the finance days notice flu costs. The country doesn't have was coach in the gym, covert nineteen this and that so like I. Don't think I of course I think Mazda obviously cooled anytime. You lose. You cool a little bit Conor McGregor and Nadir's, and it's such an insane finish that they run it back, and you have another epic fight like that, but for Mazda all you're obviously going to a little bit but he himself said. Let me, get a couple of wins and they'll run back. I'm sure he want. He would love to five full camp but the Colby College. Is there I? Think that is going to drum up a whole lot of interest I. think people might even be more interested in that fight in the dynamic between those two fires, oarsmen and I think that Kobe Covington already Moslems? Fight does not need a title online. That's just two guys. They hate each other I wanNA break brick on each other's faces. WHO'S MCCANN? Fight Gillard. Leeann, Edwards of course out there, wonder boy thompsons, working his way up Santana, positive I think has covered to so he somewhere out there, so the welterweight division will move, but for now Mazda all. Of course cooled, but he's still I think still the hottest commodity hundred seventy pounds.
UFC 251: Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal
"Island becomes a reality. Well, I guess it's already a reality. But there will actually be fights there, and it's actually Gosh! Maybe one of the best certainly form in my opinion, the best card they've had since they've come back the UFC But really good card. A lot of big names. And then, of course, the main event of the evening is a fight that Probably should have been on the card anyway. What We ended up plucking out, I suppose. With Moscow it all being put in against Guzman. So I wantto talk a little UFC 2 51 Maybe Look at some of these potential wagers and get Ah Someone who used to frequent this show. It needs to come on on Maura, and that's on me. Scott Kanevsky joins me now, Scott. Good to catch up, man. How are you? I feel like a first time long time been awhile. It has been a long time. And how are you? How's the family? How's everything going doing well, and I appreciate you having me on thinking about me and things were going well, and things are only gonna get better tomorrow night. Yeah, absolutely. Did you laugh at Dana White when he said when he first brought up Fight Island? Yes. And no. Because you know you crazy enough that he was probably speaking the truth. You figured, you know, maybe he has something going and he's crazy enough and has the money the backing toe pull something off like that, And sure enough, here we are. I mentioned at the beginning How good this card in is and it's not just mustered all versus Guzman by it. Man. Did we luck out? Right? I mean, my you know, I feel bad for the dude who had to pull out and it doesn't get a fight Guzman tomorrow but as a card, it's so much better now that master dolls on it, don't you think? Agreed. Gilbert Burn, We'll get another shot at some point. I mean, hopefully next in line for whoever wins tomorrow night. But this is a fight Everybody wanted. You know, already. Mas Vidal inducement aren't exactly the best of friends. They've been talking for a while. They had that the altercation back in the states. It was Super Bowl on radio row. So this is something everyone's been wanting to see. And now with Byrnes Contracting Cove it we're going to get it on. I think that's just made a already really intriguing AA fight cars that much better. Now I got burned by Justin GHT because I was all in on Tony Ferguson in that fight like it's not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen twice, right? I mean hospital is not gonna win. This thing is he Okay. From a mm a standpoint, I have to say no. And I would agree with you. But if you're going to talk, betting going all in and you've seen what's happened over the last 24 36 hours. Money is just money and tickets are pouring in on Mas Vidal. He's he's gone from about a plus 2 25 plus 35 to a plus 1 85 last I saw earlier today. I believe there would be MGM believe put out there that they're taken 81 ticket being booked for Mas Vidal. And you know, you know what they say. You gotta follow the money. So it just Somebody knows something, or is it just It's obviously not just big bets that are coming in on Mas Vidal, but there's no number of that's coming on him. And that just makes you wonder if someone I'll be just like you know where agree like you. It was all set up for Tony Tow. Go in there and handle him and take him to the ground and didn't but You know, maybe he'll learn from that. Now. What's what's mobs but all going to be able to do to be Guzman. That's the big question. You know, he's better on the feet, obviously, but you know who's going to try and take him down and out wrestling? So How? How does Ma's little battle that and managed to Ah, toe? Hold him off? I don't know. I think I'm right there with you. And I just looked at Fanduel and they have mustered all that plus 200 right now. So even though that's a little bit longer odds, then maybe MGM has that still down as you said Scott from 2 25 or something like that just a couple of days ago, and I guess oh, so let me ask you this if we do the betting thing I I have Guzman minus 2 45 or mosque it all plus 200 Or and then of course, you could get into it. Um, I took in my parlay. I took Guzman just straight up because I got enough other stuff in my parlay that I'm going to get pretty good odds out of it. But if you were laying down, Abed, would you would you do it smarter, Would you Dumas fit all Okay, so I would I would wait until about 15 to 30 minutes before fight and see where those odds are because of who's come down to, like, minus 200. I think you jump on him because they're getting more value for him. And firstly, I think he does come through with the wind, and he's just going to grind it out. But if that money starts about bounce backto mas Vidal, you know, I think, and you're looking to take a shot. You're willing, you know, maybe you had a good night on the earlier fight. Maybe maybe you going on and on and you take that shot. Just hope he comes with that flying me. He landed on aspirin

"dana white" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"Love that ad for all these headlines and information tune the sportscenter on ESPN radio all throughout the day under getting creative. Drive to get the money there. Man Mike Ryan is burying me during the break with laughter. He was asking questions about fight island with me against Dana White. And I'm like Fat Island and he's like guess you'd be thousand island and and so I need to tell the audience as I've told you guys before The last time I fought was three decades ago and my fighting career ended because as I told you guys the story. I'm squared up on a dude in coconut grove. It's at the tavern okay. That dump of a place in coconut girl rice he that. Oh it's not. It's not eric and it had it. Send off before everything happened. Fight over a woman and what ended up happening is because I had been in some fights before that but was no fighter but hadn't actually lost a fight so I wasn't too afraid to undefeated to well. I came in unafraid to fight and didn't fight that often but fight fought enough to get into trouble and so I'm squared up on this guy. Ready to fight and I have the thought as I'm looking at him I'm like Oh he's not scared either and my next thought was oh. Wait a minute I just admitted I'm scared like like one ends up happening. Is I've got a car honking at me as I'm sitting in the street I've lost a shoe and my shirt has been pulled over my head and my ear is bleeding. Because I was the guy on the wrong end of ED viral video last week with the jeans and the chain who was bald and shirtless ready for a fight and he didn't realize that he was going up against Lanky. Jeff Goldblum who was GONNA roundhouse. Kick him in the in. I had no chance and so. Are you guys under the impression that I think I would win that fight? What I doing is going in. And taking a beating symbolically Dana White says the media's weaken wimpy He crushes all media members. Who Dared to question him by saying I don't care what what those nerds thing. So here comes the heavyweight champ of those nerds the heavyweight nerd of the NERDS And I have no chance so basically what we'd be doing. Mike is Sitting here saying Dan. You'RE YOU'RE GONNA train for this and try and I'm like Mike I don't. I don't have any chance at actually doing anything other than taking a beating for charity yeah. You shouldn't even train for this because I know what you're GonNa do like I gotta get my body looking good at least because there's that part of this whole shame because I can't go in there wearing like wrestling singlet like Andre. The giant protect world from what lies beneath. So you're going to want to train for this and then you're gonNA start working up the courage to think okay. Well let me work on my guard. Let me let me learn how to check a kick and do all that stuff. Don't waste your time just going there. Get this beating. Let's raise some money and get all the attention that comes with it. I'm with Mike Again. I'll train you if you need it but I'm with Mike go in there. I mean. Just take your beating take quickly take a dive. If you have to raise money go again. Take knowing of a punchers chance. Yeah I find that guy that dominick Cruz accused of being drunk and smoking cigarettes all the time. You don't want her dean in there because he might let this be a show for a little bit. I can't just take a dive. Stu Gods if it if it raises a legitimate amount of money for charity. I can't just go in there and tap out as soon as they ring the bell. Listen raise money you raise. Money doesn't matter. No TAP tap no interest. What if we are going to raise whole north of ten million dollars topping so you mean I should allow him for example if he gets me in a Choko? The chokehold away. Hope that happens. Let let let the referee in charge and make the decision like that man already in the ring with with Dana White. You can be tapping immediately the second the rock your arm. I don't know if he actually knows mixed martial arts was he wasn't. He walked through a long time ago. This wrong I might have my facts wrong on this but I think he came up before. He became a boxing trainer as an aerobics instructor. Stugotz wincing right now. I don't know if that's factual what it is. I'm saying but I've got to talk the game leading up to the fight. That's the whole game is built it as primary fighting disciplines. He's a promoter. Right going to talk the whole time and then immediately tap. No No. We're talking about ten million dollars. Hey listen to me. This is going to be faster than the Moskva doll like..

"So there you have Lebron James came in at number one and our NBA prime time players ranking which was voted on by our ESPN panel of experts. You see it right there. Running top by Janas K. D. Hawaiian steph curry other. Notables in our top to include James Harden Anthony Davis and Luca Danni meanwhile players eleven through fifteen dwelling beef tyree Jimmy Butler okay. Let's welcome in. Nba analysts our friend. Jay Williams everybody's going to get a chance here so don't worry guys we're GonNa Start with you though Max. Who was the best player left off the list of prime time players then Simmons? Everyone is so wrapped stopped. What Ben Simmons can't do which is obviously shoot. He can't shoot. He won't even try. That's the reason he's not in contention for the MVP every year. Then Simmons. This year has probably been the best defensive player in basketball. His defense has been off the charts and he can garden multiple positions and he can do. It added elite level as an offensive player. He's sort of like a baby. Lebron book with better handles. I mean he's He. He is a six foot ten fast precision passing brilliant court vision. Point Guard point forward. What do you want to call them? Who can debt to the rim? Who can hook up his teammates? Who really when you think about. It came one miracle shot from Leonard last year from likely winning the championship. Sixers team if that shot doesn't fall in that sixers team advances. I given the injuries to Golden State. They likely on a title already without Simmons shooting yet so I think people are so focused on what he so obviously can't do and this is a phenomenon notice sports sometimes that they just throw out the baby with the bathwater. They don't focus enough on what he can do. Which is everything else. I'M NOT GONNA fall for that trap that you sat there where you said a bunch of interesting smart things about Ben Simmons. You snuck in Baby Lebron and then you said a bunch of smart interesting things about Ben Simmons again like Yes ben. Simmons is very good maybe he should be on this list but I'm not sure I don't. I'm not sure he's not the best player on his team and saying baby. Lebron just trying to suck me into a debate. There is no baby Lebron just like. There's no baby during so you stop that you shut your mouth. Don't say that anymore. That is rude and disrespectful. Now the player that I want on the list. That's not on the list. Crm because that raptors team is actually much better and they've been very good for a couple of years past is getting better every year. He stepped into the role as a superstar. And I think the record of his team's makes it proves that and also he is by far. I wouldn't say by far. He is the best player on that team. Illegitimate best player in which is not the same thing as Ben Simmons though Ben Simmons. I think you're right and may deserve to be on this list. Hired in some of the guys on the list were injured in particular. So I think we'll see outcome is the guy. He's I think one of the things that you bring up often is people getting caught up brand names and I think that's why we haven't caught up necessarily to how good Paschal Siaka is. Because he's from Cameroon. He played into G. League. He's not something that we expected him to. He's not who we expected it to be in basketball. So often is the case. The high draft picks they turn out to be the superstar all-star she put on top of it. He plays in Canada. He's not even he doesn't even play in. This country is home teams. Not even this country. I think that is slowing down. That's slowing us from appreciating how good Paschal. Crm has become and there's reason to believe that he may still get better every year even though he's twenty five and that starts to get close to NBA players prime and they start to level off. He's gotten better every year significantly and he. He played while Ben Simmons may have potentially made it to the finals. If they don't get that lucky bounce on that shot from Kuwait I guess what the rafters were in the finals and Pasco Seattle stood up enhanced. Some big games. He is one of the the number one reason. I think it's fair to say Paschal. Siaka is the number two reason why. Why the Raptors one championship and Ben? Simmons may have been the number two reason if they want to championship. But I don't see them holding any rings in Philadelphia Right now Nico. I really liked the Pascal. Crm version that you took. I think Toronto's been team has been overlooked this entire year. And I think it's going to be interesting to see. We do have playoffs. Come back his game can be sustained at that level to help his team get back to the Eastern Conference. Finals been to. There are questions around shooting but I agree with you Max on defense and his passing ability. Those are things that make him off the charts. I think both those guys are now outside looking in of the top of teen. I do think a guy that belonged in the top fifteen and the only reason that people nationally don't recognize his incredible greatness is because he's been overlooked by Kevin Durant and by stepping curry but Klay Thompson is a top five in the history of the game. Okay he's also a top five two way player in the game of basketball and me. Some the Sassy he's been able to do has been insane. Guys Sixty points and eleven dribbles. I think we all remember that game. There's also out there lurking about him that he is just stepping curry for. Were making a most seasons. Two hundred may threes. He's tie with Steph with seven seasons with at least two hundred mate threes Ray Allen have by Miller only one. He's never shopped below forty percent from the three point line in the history of his career. Never I mean Ray Allen has Larry Bird Has Reggie Miller high. Stepping Curry. Did just this year for the first time and the fact that he is a phenomenal player. Six seven can score against anybody. He's guys can put on Leonard. He's a guy that you can put on Jimmy Butler with you. I'd take Nicole. Yokich off the top fifteen I put Klay Thompson in the top. Fifteen plays a great call. I think the injury I need to see like K. D. can be injured and you can imagine him as eighty percent of himself still belong in the top fifteen giving Claes injury which is not as serious as Katie's but not so fast like just assuming he'll be one hundred percent again. I think that I need to wait and see to see him play again. Otherwise I'd agree with you. Clay is a fantastic two way player and he can put the ball on the floor. Like I think the thing that Klay can't do versus what Ben Simmons can't do Benson's can't shoot it all. Clay can put the ball on the floor but if you're the opposing defense that's really what you want. The warriors do make clay. Put the ball on the floor right. His weakness is not as glaring as Ben Simmons. I think Ben Simmons does on the defensive end is even better than Klay Thompson and his passing ability is like on par with clay's shooting ability. They're both league. You know we're not mentioning guys and WHO's been through a family tragedy given what happened with his mother with Kovin. Is Karl Anthony Tat? And I just wanted to be clear for guys like Dak Prescott and Karl Anthony towns when we talk about them. We know that they're they're going through family tragedy and our hearts go out to them of course but we still have to just evaluate what happens on the court. Correlate Anthony towns may be suffering here from two things one. His team doesn't do better and to Jimmy Butler and the success Butler wound up. Having mixed towns look bad right as as a team leaders and team but when you just look at what towns can do on a basketball court. This dude is a top fifteen talent easily. Top Ten talent probably and even in terms of what he produces. So that's another guy who deserves strong consideration? Yeah I mean I think you're absolutely right about towns and he gets a Ding because people assume things about his mentality based on Jimmy Butler situation and the team's lack of success but I think he might be top five for player efficiency rating right now. He's been awesome. He has been pretty consistent. He's a good day for the president. Great Office of President. I like presence. I like him. They're also I mean I'll throw somebody else out there that you might want to look at well. Actually I'm not because I don't really believe it. I'll be honest with you. I.

It's something we haven't said in a long time and I am so excited about it. I'm excited about the card. I'm excited about alive lines. I'm excited about a fighter too. That's not true but this particular is just insane so everything from the early prelims with Bryce Mitchell. Rochelle's Rosa tried way through the main event. Freaking site dude. It's been I think March fourteenth with Brazilian. I mean so. By the time we see this it will literally be almost two months without without fresh to tease April eighteenth but now this is a reality. It just feels so good. It feels so good to have this the this Saturday less than a week away next Monday will be talking about. The fights. Saturday's been feeling like Saturdays to you. What's the day's going to feel like Jimi Groundhog Day? Everyday the same. It feels very very weird man because again without without the without the fights without that talk about without. Hey we got so and so coming up. Let's talk about how the fight went whether they want. They lost or anything like that. It has really been just throws you off. Throws you off like the weekends. I don't have that to look forward to. It was the least two a month to really get geared up for now we got over even in Walt Harris's re booked so there's other stuff re booked. They're still working on fight island So there's a lot of good stuff happening. Listen just the fact that we got the song from bread. Okamoto is I mean. Don't get me wrong. I wanted to happen and it's going to happen. I feel very con- you know. Hopefully you know Dana will tell us the latest on. Fight Island you know. How great is it that they got he saying about a month It's GONNA be ready. How great is it? The Jacksonville Florida floor. I'm so happy Florida's stepped up because now we don't have to wait. We never would have gotten this car. We would have had to wait for a moment to get up and going so but like so. There's no audience at all. It's one of those just crowd. I don't I don't mind that it almost like the old pry days because in Japan you hear a pin drop so when you're watching it's different it's different but the same. I don't know but it's it's it's very like I don't know your preference. Yes yeah you're right about Japan to about being quieter fans? Yeah so it's like you don't even know the audiences you know where the US's pretty pretty loud you know. It doesn't matter man. I WanNa see I WANNA see. I just WANNA see these fights. I'm so excited. What he in Snow Audience? You know it's GonNa Rock Band said like like Black Sabbath and kiss and all those bands that the first time they work Japan. They think the craft hates them. They're like they put the fuck. These people are silent culturally. Japanese people more polite and they're quieter so they'll watch shows quietly but they're loving them but you think like shit did not enjoying this. It's not GonNa be you know you're not going to not appreciated as you're gonNA still appreciate the action and what you're watching with without you'll be yelling at home. You know what I mean. I I get caught up man. I didn't care about the fans not being there. You know what when I had my my talk to show. What is it in a couple of Michelle artists and yeah you know what I had not? I've been watching my kids a lot older eighties and nineties movies. I watch now this one. This one is under the radar. I don't think you've seen this Jimmy. Okay all right. If it's from Nineteen ninety-six who's in Michael J. Fox dot Hollywood dot a watch that Shit. What Hollywood allowed it? What does he run around? Getting laid. Michael J. Bucks. No no no. He plays as a doctor who fight wind up in a small town way. The car fixed it was it was really good. Oh it's not like Oh. I think it was a romantic comedy. Kind of Yeah Michael. J. Very Good. Well Anyway let's see Michael J. Fox teen wolf as Jimmy. I was Jimmy. I would not have sold you like that would not have to play this game if it was back to the future and yes it is an event as Mug I. It's my kids I does. He play a nephew with Kirk Douglas as his rich uncle or grandfather absolutely not. I never made it through. That grey hated that to our chat that I couldn't even get through it. I remember that. Yeah. I don't remember the name but let me think. Let me. Just give me a second but I listen. Who else was it okay. Who had a huge part part? Was the the the the guy from full metal jacket? The machine the marine who's like Who's the Mo the drill sergeant? Arly army he's dead now but yeah. That was great and everything but he was a bit. You're up Jimmy trump fairly. Sure you're not GONNA get this. Let me think tighter. I hold on stopping. What are you doing on film on the on the Google it now tapping out for Michelle waterson calls in? I don't care you run the clock out or you could just admit I mean Mars attacks I liked. What the fuck is give this is. It's not quite nurse. Yes Jimmy Yell I I I say Shit night and I just looked it up AMDP. How UP TO GYPSY? You know. I don't think I did is harvey or it's like A. It's a horrible movie that you could watch. What your kids to see but that sounds it's not like the guy goes that you season it. Jps looks like it's it's spooky enough kids but it's cool enough for the adults whereas some music like what is it the grim the the. I don't know why I'm doing this. She didn't don't via the repo with his own. Fear the reaper. Yeah that's at the end of it anyway. But it's almost like a company of ghostbusters and he's like what else could it be? Kinda goes visors. But he's like a conman that kind of works with ghosts and and then there's like this this evil thing that's killing the ghost even all the time he killed goes but I guess you do but had a comedy. It's not funny but it's a little bit Michael J. Fox type movie but it got under the radar robbings directed Robertson Meccas. Yes sure he's Recalled used cars which was very funny detected a future. Yeah so I mean there you go so you WanNa Watch with the kids they wanted. Amos or woody is huge. It's.

How Queer Eye Star Karamo Brown Deals With Thirsty DMs
"Welcome to just SIP. I am Justin Sylvester and today we have one of the FINEST BLACK MEN ON TV. Joining us for this podcast. This conversation was it was jeep. I found out a lot about myself. I found out a lot about the queer eye. Cast I mean there were some nuggets in this interview and I'm just so happy to have one of the most enlightenment join me today. On this podcast. Please welcome Kerama Brown. Thank you for coming. I'm so glad to be here. We are at just a SIP with the one Kerama Brown. Everybody thank you. I'm calling this episode sex drugs and Maury Povich book. If you guys have not gotten this book right now get it and do yourself a favor. Do not. Just get the book the Audio Book because you can hear it in his own words. I am audio book person. I listen to them all the time. Never have I heard so much heart so much love so much pain behind one person telling a story. I appreciate that Boo at all. So all we can you texting me saying. Oh my gosh that part this part and that made me so happy you have no idea because I put a lot of people when they write memoirs they say they're going to be open transparent about everything but then they don't and I was open and transparent about every single thing for sure I was like I'm not hiding anything I don't want you were giving me. Yama for two hours on the treadmill because we're so open and transparent. Who was the one person you were scared to read this manuscript because you? Kinda just laid out there. Yeah nobody to be honest with you because before I started read everyone knows that I live my life. One hundred percent on one hundred percent open. Because that's the only way I feel like other people can grow if I'm an example of the growth and so I let everyone know completely before I was writing this book. I'm writing it and I would like to include your you being a part of my life in this and if you're okay with it let me know right now. If you're not then I'm going to have to figure out a way to still sell your story switching. Yeah and every single person was like we already figured you'd be honest about it so I wasn't worried about anyone to be honest about it and good and there was one subject in there that you decided that you needed to pull back on so I didn't talk about my mother being abused in detail because my father used to hit her because she still healing and so as I was writing. I was noticing that it was bringing up a lot of emotion that she hadn't healed from yet so I was like you know what I'm not trying to trigger my mother. I love my mother's roll back and help her with the you know the tool so that she could support herself and then when my suicide attempt I figured I don't need to go into detail about that because if someone else's reading it I don't them to say Oh this is how I can do it. Yeah I wanted to instead. Stop at a certain point. And then say if you're having these feelings or if you know some of these feelings here our resources you can use. Yeah because a lot of times people don't do that. Yeah and I'm like if you pick up this book here's a way you can get the hell yeah. Was there something that happened while you were writing where you thought you were over something and you had worked through something but then writing this book you almost had to reactivate it and re re confronted you talk about a lot of things in the book about your name and being gay all these things? Sometimes we don't take on you know we don't take it on fully. Yes we kind of brush over it. Yes they we're fine but we're not anything in this book where you were writing so yes but not really because I do the work myself. I mean like career wise. That's I think I'm so good on. Queer is because having a background in psychotherapy social work. I can do the digging and digging on myself. The one thing I would say that kind of triggered me a little bit was when I got to the color. Ism Chapter in 'cause I talked about how my skin tone my grandmother used to say to me. Don't talk it up a family anymore. Which you know. She comes from a certain time. Where you to be lighter meant that you could have attained more success and so when I was writing that it brought up these feelings again because through Social Media. I get these comments because I'm engaged to a white man. Yeah that somehow me being engaged to a white man has somehow diminished my experience as a black man in this world and it bothers me like people say. Oh You Dana White Guy so you all of a sudden have lost part of your blackness and I'm like when I walk out the world people don't see me with a White Man. They see a black man and when the police stopped me they don't say oh you're dating a white guy we'll let you we'll let you go. You're good yeah. Don't have Kiki somewhere and a drink. No they say you still black band. And that's what gets on my nerves and so when I was writing that I realized that there are still issues with my color that it's a different former Colorado but there's parts of it that still bother me because it didn't erase yeah raise yes completely you know. It's funny because when I first came out. I think people had a problem being gate but now that I've come out and in the past dated a white guy when I go home with a guy they now look at me because I'm an interracial relationship you're from Houston Texas. That probably still happens to you. Oh my gosh are you kidding me everywhere? I go like the minute we pop up. This was really gets me people. Somehow he put me on like back up back you up. My man is successful but my had no hand in giving me the career the success the money in my bank account and it bothers me when we go out and people assume my career is somehow because of something. He's that yeah I'm like have lost. Meanwhile he's like a doctor somewhere else talked about this. You know what I'm saying. DoN'T COME FROM MR. Calhoun exactly well. Let's remind people where you started? Yes because rule. Philadelphia was everything. Yeah you were the first black openly gay man on television. What was that experience reality? Reality mother ru father who was the first. Let's let's be very real but in reality television and when that title came out I didn't even know that also people's right in there and I was like what are you talking. About Ruben around forever and then I was like oh reality television got it and what was it like It's it's it's sad and it's also exciting because I was on the real world in two thousand and four two thousand five. Why in the hell has there never been an openly? Gay Black Man cast before me. Yeah that's a problem for sure because we have been around. Let me take some I go to Atlanta. I go to Chicago New York. Texas Tennessee and black gay men are around thriving doing the most amazing setting culture setting trends yet. I was the first so it kind of disappointed me because I was like there should have been twenty before me before me but then on the same rate I was like well. I'm glad that I could kick open the door so that now there could be more people and then I'm going to continue. Kick Open that door and also gonNA continue that every other brother. That is Gay I'm going to say come up with me. Let's let's do together. I let me applaud. You let me celebrate you. Let's let's do this. We don't do that very often was many. Don't but many do you do I do. And I think it's important that we encourage those who on their journey to loving themselves and to love others to know that we support them in that they'll get there. Yeah no in. Two Thousand and four people weren't living that loud. We were still kind of in the closet. You Know Oprah said. We was in the closet. Let me tell you I was out in the club. Run IN THE STREET. Oh do it in. Oversized Shala John Jeans and Timberlands and then each outfit sounds happy. I need you ought to put together like a collage when you go on TV and you live your life like that and then the reality stops and you're back in your real reality. Yes what was the? What was I guess? What was the backlash because you know with my family? It's like you can be gay. You can be you. We support you but the minute you put it out there. It's a little bit harder. Yes that and that's exactly it. I had family members who immediately were turned off from speaking to me my father and I we already had a rocky relationship because he couldn't reconcile our relationship with his religion and so because he he believed his God was teaching him that somehow I was not perfectly designed and not made in his eyes. He figured I can't talk to you but then on top of that me putting it on television embarrassed him and so he didn't WanNa talk to me. We got into physical altercations. It was bad and there was other family members. Come from Jamaica in house so it's like the Black Culture Jamaican Culture Cuban culture which unfortunately there are members subscribed to this sort of ideal of what it is to be a man. Yeah and then me being proud and well-spoken on national television somehow didn't define me as a man because of the fact that I had intimate relationships with other men and your only son and I'm the only son and so you know it was. It was hard but then on the flip side which I tried to do was focus on all the people who love me like I will just showered with so much love beginning letters and letters and letters from people saying Oh my Gosh I love you. You're amazing mice messages. Dmz ENDS. It was good. It was good but I'm not GONNA lie it. I took a dark path quickly because I felt like I lost myself because trying to battle the family and the good of here trying to be something more at Age. Twenty three was a lot. Yeah and so it got it got rough real quick she black Jamaican and Cuban. Sx is good. You better you show up with a PPO per somebody. Did it. Better be an ambulance late nights. I just can't even imagine it would add. Top passed already clear the room you were living your best life. Look my favorite line. In this whole book I found. It is when you said molly you in danger girl. Okay when your I'm not having an explainer people I'm GonNa let you explain it to them because it was one of the most profound things that I've read. What was that moment like for you when I found my drug of choice. Yes Oh my gosh. Tell me you history. Yes so I mean my father being rastafarian Jamaican Us We'd he recreationally and so it was always in my house shot. Okay I loved it. I loved trying. We'd because it made me feel social when I got it first time from him so it was a weird experience of like not having to go to a corner to get we'd just being able to say. Let Me Walk. My Dad's room and get weed and but then I realized I didn't like the feeling of it. I didn't like being lethargic. I didn't like it was down. It was a downer. I didn't like it so then I started trying to know you weren't going in your dad's closet to get some weed. He had a basketball side. Oh yeah he well he did okay he did he did. He had won by his bed but he also had like a basketball in the freezer. This yeah like big of weed in the freezer and so I'll just opened up the bag and I'd be like with my friends be like oh how much we need today and I would just take it out the bag and so it was easy for me to access it but I didn't like the Downer feeling of it and then I stopped that because I never had addictive personality towards that but though I had an addictive personality So then I started molly and ecstasy and that was cute for like the first couple of times I was like yes. I like someone rub up on me and I was like yes. We are living. Ooh And then as I would have to take three pills to have that same feeling. I was a you're sweaty. You're growth cute and then I got introduced to cocaine and that's what I said you in danger girl. And how old were you when you got introduced twenty five? And who was the bitch because at this point? Let's remind people if you read this book. He is now on the. You're in the press tour. You're in the Club appearances. Best Life as Kerama. Oh for real world yes and you start out on this dirty your sixty three you in between one hundred ninety three and two hundred and ten pounds and you get introduced to cocaine yes. What's at first feeling like

"Two time for check on sports Adam Kaufman is here more patriots talk Adam yeah well patriots receiver Julian Edelman cells stayed Tom T. shirts Tom Brady continues to weigh his options NFL free agency begins on the eighteenth so rapidly approaching here Brady and bill Belichick apparently spoke by phone yesterday reportedly it did not go well the pats coach was talking as though his star is still under contract unfortunately we can't hear that conversation but you can hear the QB's chat with UFC president Dana white on Instagram live it is an amazing experience I don't know what the future holds right now I'm just trying to first time going through it in the meantime I missed twelve days and I was looking forward to tell you Jeff white the former Boston resident he was trying to recruit Brady to the raiders you just you don't
"dana white" Discussed on Short Story Long
"I'd always said we were GonNa do something together in boxing right and I was managing chuck and Tito and I was talking to the old owner. Bob Meyrowitz who who was out of New York and we got him to contract battle over Tito Ortiz contract and I I was talking about pay per view when he flipped out. There is no fucking pay per view. There's no money this things get on and freaks out and I was like Holy Shit this things in trouble trouble so I I literally hung up for Tita Brothers Burn Florida I called him and said I think the UFC's in trouble. I think they're going out of business and I think we can buy. I and I think we should buy it. Yeah that was literally the rest is history. The reason why you said nothing like it was essentially you bought the name up For Two million dollars I think we had like eleven is under contract was over six hundred fighters under contract now. There was eleven at the time so my question is strategically at that time. Did it ever cross your mind to just start your own and not have to buy that or did you feel like there was enough of a bran Dan still there. That it was worth the two million really what we ended up buying for two million with those three letters. UFC and you know There was a horrible stigma attached to the UFC. Back back then but whether bad or good you knew what the USC was. Yeah and we believe that was value there and then I imagine it was just an absolute nightmare trying to get all the regulations and clean it up and it was the next. Was it like okay. We bought this thing. What the hell are we gonNA do? We need to get it back. Conti we need to get it cleaned up. We need to get it. Not so barbaric like that. And that's that's where Lorenzo fatigue comes in so Lorenzo was a former regulator himself. He was the head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission so not only did he know everybody. He was very very respected by by his peers. In the In that world and Yeah we went out and just started trying to educate you know people would take a meeting with runs of Tita And and would would would hear him out on. The Sport and the reality was a lot of the marketing that was done in the old days by Bob in those guys was two men in the cage one man leaves you know the most barbaric putty sport you know. It was all marketing hype. Reality was the never been death or serious injury in the UFC. If if you met these athletes they're incredible people in you know Most of them went to college and they had families and it wasn't really what it was advertised to be. Yeah Gosh that's just seems like such a mountain to climb but once it was us up for the challenge said the same thing though again. It's the same Quinton. The Bellman job. It's it's like you had that vision of what it could be in that. Perseverance is just the part that I'm so like dumbfounded by you know because I'm sure that walking into those meetings as we walk in with like PDF's and trying to educate a state on Athletic Commission on what this sport even is and they're telling you it's blood sport and you know what I'm yeah. Yeah no it definitely was then then getting out think about this right so we we bought this company and our goal was because we always believed we. We had to get this onto free television to really take off because we believe that people would love this sport that we were in love with as much as we did right we we just had to get out there and present it the right way and get it on television now when we bought it it wasn't allowed on pay per view you as a grown adult didn't have the option to buy this thing on pay per view porn was on pay per view but was not that was the mountain that we had to climb gas. Gosh so then you talk about two very openly how you burned close to forty million dollars funding these things because it just wasn't it just wasn't generating the money right right so you're just putting the money and putting the money in putting them in famously. There's a moment when was it. Lorenzo calls you and says hey man you've got to try to sell this thing. How much can we get? Get for it you go out say six or seven million. I'm making calls all day. I come back to him that night and I say six maybe seven million bucks we could get for this thing and he says okay and hangs up for the night. Yeah and so at that point when you go to bed that night is the UCLA over. I'm thinking that there's things close to if it's not over right right now we're close this thing's GonNa shut down soon then. They can't keep blowing all this money on this thing. So are you thinking about jobs anything about 401K's again. What does your hand really i? I you know it's it's one of those moments in your life where you're like. You know I believe in this thing. This thing could really do it. And I feel like we have momentum right now but when run out the money is just think about this if you spend and it was like thirty four million dollars forty four million dollars the numbers in that ballpark somewhere. Now you'd they have that kind of money to spend made seventy million and you got taxed on your money and that's why it's really that's the number and and it's a lot of money for anybody so I. I don't know exactly what I was thinking that night but I was just. I was sick thinking this this this thing could be over for any day and then the part that I love to is so then the Renzo calls you the next day essentially says bucket. He literally said okay so he literally says fuck it. The thing that I love about that part of the story is you can take all the business classes you want. You can read all the books you want and never tells you winner when not to say fuck it right because everything on on paper said shut this thing down one hundred percent. What made it? What do you think even in him or in you guys made fuck it the right thing because it was the fucking right move right foreign beyond now now we know that but at that moment it's probably seemed completely reckless right? How do you know when to say fuck it? So the for Titas are proven crepe businessman. You look at what they've done in if you really know the history of the for Titas and what they've built and what they've done done credible business and Lorenzo explains it. Is You know the day you had that day. It's it's it's at the end of the day you're heading home and you just had whatever your day was that day. Sounds like he didn't have a great dad. But you get a good night's sleep you wake up the next day saying you have a completely different perspective on what this next day is going to be in what you know what you WANNA do or not to but I think what I believe leave. Is that the for Titas are such good businessman. There's got everything is in a gut. Don't care what you do. Anybody who does anything fucking great goes off their gut feeling what they think they should do at the moment that day. Or whatever whatever the deal is and I think in his gut woke up the next day and said it's not shut this down then we got to the point where we were going to invest the last ten million billion dollars into the ultimate fighter and again. That's that's all a gut you know Your Business Gut said fucking. Let's do it. How do you think he trained business? Gut The thing is just experience. Yeah I think you know you have guys that like the for Tita brothers. Are Well educated. Guys you know Masters degrees from the best schools that you can go to and are just street smart and have business sense and and you know they have the whole package the they are the most normal down to earth well rounded billionaires that. You'll ever meet billionaires. William Ayers are assholes let's be honest they're fucking idiots that you wouldn't wanNA fuck it hanging around with five minutes here The fatigue brothers are actually guys you want to go out and have dinner with and party with the real guys. They're good guys and Because of their well roundedness in their personal lives and and whatever I think that's what makes them so successful and the really smart guys me. I didn't go to Ivy League schools and I didn't go to any of this stuff but I've spent my whole life learning about focusing on the fight business and and you know I always thought that I had the I know what fans want a no fans Wanna see. I know the fights that need to be made. I'm I'm I've been really good at finding young up and coming talent. You know so when you put those two things together you know the for Titas is in me. It was it was it was a home. Rotten and now with Ari and I don't know if you know are at all. I don't know him personally but I know the legend. How is that a similar dynamic? I end up being perfect partners to. Yeah Yeah it's it's really really cool. You think a guy like Hari you know if you watch entourage you know same thing Ori are Emanuel has no ego when when he deals in business and and and he's a fucking killer and I love that about him too so it really worked out for me to be able to have to perfect marriages in business is pretty crazy. Because they say that a lot. A lot of the perfect combos are the business people and then the visionary because rarely do people truly have both you might be both. You're right man and you nailed it with that and I think the thing that's so fascinating about you and your story is like you really have the thing that they don't teach college. That's what it sounds like. Has Benefited you so much. You can't teach vision at Harvard. You know what I mean. You can't teach perseverance at Harvard. And that's what I think so. If you get it. Sounds like partnered up with some people people who know business and believe in you you can take over the world but man scariest part during the sale was is that You know everybody that came in. That was making offers to buy the C. The one stipulation was that I had to stay there so then I'm like Holy Shit for Tito brothers alike. Listen man you gotta stay you know and it's not that I didn't WanNa stay whom I stay with. Yeah Yeah you know what I mean because those guys are gone. So that was you. And Your New Testament that Titas there were higher bidders than Ari. Yeah those though there was a company that was bidding five billion and there wasn't I give a fuck about the money but at the end of the day everybody gives a fuck about the money and that you know the for Titas absolutely cared about about the money and the other things that were but they were they were cool enough and smart enough to realize we need to match them up with somebody that it's actually going to work work with and Ari was the guy are it was absolutely the Guy so back to that ultimate fighter moment because that's such an another insane moment of this story is you guys so you're still forty million in the hole you think God if we could just get this thing in front of more people it could win and ultimate fighter was that concept but now correct me if I'm missing any of this or I'm doing it wrong but then you go pitch it around and now you're having trouble again because has no one wants to take it is that right.

"Dana White welcome to First-class Fatherhood thanks for having me one is seventeen they're exactly a year apart and then my daughter is thirteen plitt played football andy fights he boxes and then my daughter is no no no. I don't I don't I don't I don't do the coaching thing man I I have some people that are coaching yeah. I hear that if you could please just taking many here to hit my listeners a little bit about brothers bought the company twenty years ago and you know I stayed on as an owner and You know president you when I became a dad data and how becoming a father kind of change your perspective on life changes the way you you look at life changes the way you look at I don't know it's it's it's it's the greatest thing that you can do it's really you realize why but I know that comes with a lot of hard work what were some of the challenges of being a dad while building the UFC thing is missing things as missing whether it's their play at school are the hardest are missing things I've been very fortunate and that you know we have like the largest live or stream a play or you know whatever it might be I got it can be a guy that has to go to work you know every day and pay the bills What about Discipline Dana what type of disciplinarian are you as a father and is it different than the disciplines value grew the shit kicked out of me a few times when I was a kid and you know I don't think it it made me that I was doing or not do something because of it but it wasn't Eaton's that I took but I've never done that to my kids you the plan them and especially my son Aiden who who was fought and so I just try to reason with them and it works for some kids and others it doesn't like my like me at a very young age she started becoming his own guy there's just a certain age I think there's different ways to to discipline different kids you can have the same kids that's exactly the same I got four kids myself all four of them couldn't be more different when it comes to trying to handle them you know for each kid and try to you know all this is only thirteen so I'm just on the onset of the teenage years yeah but you've already hit the mark where they started driving I had family up in Maine up in this part of Maine called Maine and it's out in the sticks through town and everything else there's not a lot of police out there so water we we we have all this property and you know my kids would drive from one house to the other the I had him doing it young so my son Dana when he started driving amen some stuff we did in Vegas to in our community you know driving around and for his birthday he could care less about driving he uber's everywhere she's thirteen you know we've got a couple years to go with her but when she starts driving that's that don't even have to get even bothered to get their license and it's kind of mind blowing to me because I was always like I wasn't getting the car but B I was getting that license you know your license it's the craziest thing ever one of the things that I notice obviously all the time when I drive we can yeah that's that's a great question for teams from all branches in the military that is exactly what you get with combat flags combat the soldier Marine Airmen Sailor Costa who wore the fatigues used to make the flag owned American made combat flags dot Com Promo Code father saying that you would like to start your own podcast and I am telling you right now anchor is the easiest way her anchored those all the distribution as well so it can be heard on spotify apple podcast and the GO-TO ANCHOR DOT FM to get started Yeah that that's that's a great question you know it was it was one of the things that my there's so many nasty people on social media and things like that but I said listen the kids got where they're gonNA live and where they're going to communicate with the friends the gotTa get used to it and a lot of things and they've ended up pretty well yeah. I think twitter ones on instagram too you know you're always going to have these I call them nameless faceless coward you know you you have to consider the source it's any different than the guys that are family men that are fighting as opposed to that single guy that Lone Wolf fighter I just it changes you man it's just it does there's nothing you you know I've always had this philosophy about people always ask me about life is over and you're laying there and that box and whoever shows up to your hopefully you you've lived a life and done things right lawyer who you were as a business owner or as whatever walk of life yeah very well have you ever done like a father's Day card we have just dads on you see that really good dads and you know you know have family your kids when did you first introduce your kids to the USC and when when was the first time they actually attended two bites oh different you know it's your job as a father to make sure that they bullying and getting picked on and all that stuff is real and it doesn't just reality in life and it's always been something that was very important to me is that my kids learn how to defend we day but that's not that doesn't mean that's what's going to drive your kids and like my oldest son loves and my daughter has you know volleyball and she loves gymnastics but you know which is great. I I want them to find their own their own way in their own engineer you've got one son that's already chasing the girl how did you kind of handle that when they started to hit that dating scene and the one that I'm going to have a real hard time with already knows that she's not allowed to date till she's thirty and you got three bodyguards so that works perfect what about the what's not to grow the sport and this brand and going into other countries we're continuing to grow throughout Russia and the Middle East Africa I it's I'm just as fired up every day now as I was twenty years ago so time in San Diego Over the next four years and whatever school my Younger College Yeah Very High School Yeah I got one going to high she here this weekend well it wasn't as close to not happen as people think it was I'm type of bullshit behind the scenes leading up to a fight opponent or whatever the case may be but you know we're used yeah listening well I think I think my best advice would be becomes very very tough Y- you know it's it's it's it's very expensive mm-hmm and sleep and all that other stuff it just gets better every single day when you have a kid you just gotta you just gotTa jump in with both feet and all the way thank you so much you're GonNa be a few minutes time I last fatherhood thank you I really appreciate continued success Me a few minutes of his time here that was so awesome pleased me up on twitter guys on Instagram let me know episode and you can check out all the guests will be joining me here next week including NFL live NFL Hall of Famers to Navy Seal Medal of honor recipients the wolf of Wall Street. aww please remember guys we are not babysitters we our fathers and we're not just fathers In Town I...

"I only got a couple more than i'll let you going when i look at so two things happen when i look at you and your business from the outside number one it seems like potentially lead the most stressful company to run in the world because not only you just running a massive seven billion dollar company now but there's legal issues with the fighters people get hurt last minute drop out that guy's throwing <hes> barriers through bus windows madness. How do you do not stress because the other thing that i see i said there's two things one is that the other is that. You seem to absolutely love what you do love your life. You don't seem i'm overly stressed. How do you balance that to shut it off. Do you turn your phone off at like nine p._m. And you don't like what you're like. I don't ever shut my phone but i think the reality is is that i love it so much. I can't imagine not doing it. I think i would would be a miserable human being if i wasn't doing it so i don't know how to answer that question. You know it just so happens. There's madness this guy's out so if you ask these guys around me all the time yeah. I actually like chaos yeah. You must create my own personal. You know what i mean. I think i i i've become addicted to it. Yeah and i love it. I actually love it. If you look at all the things that you just said now i'm getting into boxing thing yeah. I need my fucking head vicks and you see anytime. I've ever run into you anything you are. I mean i'll be honest. These guys asked me the other day. Who one person that is very nice kind but doesn't need to be meaning like someone who's been very successful but it's still nice to everyone i said you because every time i've ever run into you don't act like any of those right and when i just what type of shit you deal with this stuff going on today. You shouldn't agree. You should never become that person. No no matter how much fucking money you make or any of that and one of the things that i always do and and very much that way with my kids too is we. We don't ever talk about the money. It's never life is never about money. If it's about money you already fucked up. You already blew it. It's all about the money you miss the whole picture on what it's supposed to be about you know if you work hard and you love what you do and and everything is perfect in your personal life. The money should fucking come along and it should be part of the gig right yeah. It doesn't always happen that we but the money i know people always say this pisses people off who don't have money. I saw the funniest fucking thing on on instagram the other day. It's like it's people that save money won't saw my probs bob. Money would literally solve problems eye problems. It's not fucking true. Ooh yeah it's not true. It's i'm telling you if you think you have problems now. Sprinkle a fuck and few million dollars on top of it and i promise you the problems will fucking grow beyond the leaf. It can never be about the money you you need to be a happy fucking person in your life or you're never going to be happy with money. Okay another thing. That's always like it's funny to you. Meet these people that are like if i had money i'd fuck and be in great shape. I'd get a fucking trainer and a chef and everything else. No you won't ya gonna fuck and eat worse than you eat now and you're gonna get crazy and food. Money will not make you skinny..

"Then for titas are very good people in they took care of a lot of people that were were there in the beginning this this this is so much more to me and it's funny i i i. I say this all the time and people always laugh at me. You know it's the assholes astles who make all the money they always say oh. It's about the money but it literally wasn't about the money from me and when we sold i wasn't ready to sell the runs it. Was you know what i mean. Lorenzo was ready to was ready to move on and lorenzo was right. The timing was right to do it and everything else but for me at that that place in time these guys i love the for tita brothers so much and i respect him and we had so much fun. It's like lorenzo always used to say a really bad day at the u._f._c. isn't really a bad day. You know what i mean. It's it's it's so much fun and we loved what we were doing and we love doing it together and i wasn't ratty so a fucked me up. You know fucked me up. When we sold i literally went to a hotel and spent two days in the hotel didn't call anybody didn't return anybody's calls and kosh and because the whole dynamic was changing right i mean it's like you build this two buddies and now yeah. You don't know what it's gonna be like. I mean turns out but like one. You're here that side of it. You just hear four billion dollar deal. This guy must have went to a hotel in vegas with a five day. Party right couldn't have been more opposite. Gosh people ask me a lot in interviews and stuff. When is you know you made. It and i don't think that feeling exists. That's why i was asking you because if anyone is fell to you've felt it. I don't know that for someone who has a vision asian who's trying to create something that feeling ever truly exists no it doesn't you don't ever feel like like you made it. They're still so much more work to do yeah and so many things to it'd be done achievements. I mean since we've gone on e._s._p._n. This business is going like this. It's we we haven't even got close host to wear this thing is going to be in the next five years and when we sold it was a completely different feeling for me yeah. You're getting a big fat check. I ain't gonna be worrying about paying the fucking light bill and you know my car payment shit like that but i was losing. I was losing this this dynamic dynamic. I had with my two friends that i love to work with and i love to be around every day that was going away so while i was gaining being a bunch of money which is great. You know it's always great listen. Nobody's going to bomb out about getting a bunch of money right but i was losing what i really did. What i was was doing was working with my fucking every day. It's also a lesson to me and the value of creating a work environment that you love because i i can create. We can all create today right. You don't need four billion in dollars twenty billion dollars to do that and when that all change if that's more what you were focused on it just shows the value of having a work environment that you truly love true. You know what i mean. That's what it was. A lot loved working with lorenzo. Every day. You know and frank was over a station casinos but i would see frank a few times a month to you know oh and and we would hang out and we would go on trips and we would have a fucking blast..

"That's amazing yeah and then you tell the story in that in that documentary about how you were managing fighters right for the u._f._c. so you've it was kinda this crazy thing where it was like no rules bare knuckle like just wild last man standing stuff you were managing chocolate dell and not okay and then you kind of caught wind that maybe there was some financial trouble happening and there might be an opportunity to buy the for tita brothers own station casinos in las vegas which is the fourth largest gaming company in the country and lorenzo and i had always said we're going to do something together in boxing right and and i was managing chuck tito and i was talking to the old owner bob meyrowitz who who was out of new york and we got him this contract battle over tito ortiz his contract and i was talking about pay per view when he flipped out. He says there is no fucking pay per view. There's no money this thing you know and i freaked out and i was like holy shit things in trouble so i literally hung up the for tita brothers were in florida. I called him and said i think the season trouble i think they're going out of business and i think we can buy it and i think we should buy it that was literally the rest history and the reason why because you said in that thing to like it was essentially you bought the name and all would not gone for two million dollars. I think we had like eleven guys. Under contract was over six hundred fighters under contract. Now there was eleven at the time so my question is strategically at that time. Did it ever cross your mind nine to just start your own and not have to buy that or did you feel like there was enough of a brand still there that it was worth two million yeah really what we ended up buying for two million with those three letters u._f._c. yeah and you know <hes> there was a horrible stigma attached to the u._f._c. back then but whether bad or good you knew what the u._s. was yeah yeah and we believe that was value there and then i imagine it was just an absolute nightmare trying to get all the regulations nations and clean it up and it was the next like okay. We bought this thing. What the hell are we gonna do. We need to get it back on t._v. We need to get it cleaned up. We need to get it not so barbaric like that and that's ask that's where lorenzo for tita comes in so lorenzo was a former regulator himself he he was the head of the nevada state athletic commission so not only did he know everybody buddy. He was very very respected by by his peers in the <hes> in that world and <hes> yeah ah we we went out and just started trying to educate you know people would take a meeting with lorenzo petita would hear him out on the sport and the reality -ality was a lot of the marketing that was done in the old days by bob and those guys was two men out of the cage one man leaves you know the most barbaric putty sport you knows it was all marketing and hype reality was that never been a death or serious injury in the a._f._c. If you met these athletes incredible people <hes> <hes> most of them went to college and they had families and it wasn't really what it was advertised..

Do you know the date ballpark well let's say we went to Australia in two thousand four for the first time right and now it's two thousand nineteen I built a crazy business over there I'm about to do the biggest fight in the history of the country in fifteen years ago we had no you know we found one guy who trained mixed martial arts back then his name was Elvis cinna sick and we signed him and brought him into the fight Tito and a bunch of guys but you know what I mean there was literally nobody there was no talent so we built that business over there over the last fifteen seventeen years whatever it is and I'm about to do the biggest ever marvel stadium with with a you know with a guy from New Zealand versus the guy from Australia which you couldn't have in their both champions because one has the interim champion sign yeah and whitaker has the middleweight title and but we built this business brick by brick on the flip side of that pay per view he became an turn into this moneymaker in part because he did some cherry picking especially in the back half of his career he saw an opportunity to fight a guy like McGregor that he knew he could beat he waited a long time to fight back you boxers look at that and see that way to make money that I think is still is but that doesn't happen every day you know what I mean first of all think about that fight so to massive stars with floyd and connor to very similar personalities with him and Connor they start talking smack on social media and that thing grows and grows use in grows right and that doesn't happen every day doesn't happen every day I went through all this shit where oh MMA fighters wanted to fight boxers and I'm like is this isn't going to be mayweather McGregor it's just different animal you know you feel you feel it when you have that fight you feel it I mean if you go back and look at some of my predictions when I I said this is going to be the biggest pay per view in the history of pay per view and now you know we we had to go through showtime because a floyd but you know the it's one of the biggest fights ever in history in then then we roll right out of that and the shit that happens New York with connor and Khabib that thing the half million pay per view buys and when you have those fights you feel it I agree with you but on the other side of the ledger you have almond who has convinced in with does big fights no question some of them on paper view but a lot of what that business has been built on his guys taking easier fights and making money how do you convince guys that taking risks as are is worth but there are definitely those type of business models same thing with them Ma these other organizations that that that exists they are backed with massive money don't put on those type of fights either but they still run a business and you know it's still exist But I believe that the way that I do it is the right way to do it how do you convince boxers that how how you sell them on that because I guarantee you that there's group of people out there that aren't signed and we're having signed and and they could see the big picture you know we'll see I I don't know if and the question is how much longer can these other guys all sustain being in business you know how how how much longer can they with that type of model I don't know the answer to that question 'cause boxing and has been dying for the last thirty years everybody says yet the sport is still here they're still millions of dollars in it and there's a lot of money exactly so You know the people saying that that boxing's dying has been you know it's not true support isn't dying sports really fucked up really fucked up but it's not dying do you have to as you move forward.
"dana white" Discussed on SI Boxing with Chris Mannix
"He's expanding his brand and kind enough to let me join them near the office talk Dana thanks for for being here thanks for all right so we know you as you have seen a guy that built this company into the monster today but recently you've decided that you want to get into the boxing space so before I get into the specifics tell me your history with boxing is was it always something that that appeal to you just take me back to your early days with it yeah well I always wanted to get into boxing and originally we're going to get into boxing Lorenzo Tita and that was that was the plan and then the whole UFC thing popped up which everybody knows that story but I from boxing started boxing in Boston with you probably know Peter Wilshire if you don't know him you've heard of him he is what I call my my sense and you know basically taught me everything about the business and when I left Boston and came back to Vegas you know I was training the another Southie Guy Jim Leblanc who who I trained and worked with and we he ended up losing to Fernando Vargas in the box offs that we're out here and the only other thing that I had done in boxing at the time was I got a local kid here Derrick Harmon a fight with Roy Jones Junior I did the deal for that fight on three boxing gyms here in town and then Lorenzo for Tita and I were talking about getting involved in sports somehow and the whole UFC thing happened instead but it's always been a plan and an idea to get into the sport but the timing is now now is the right time and everything in life is about timing at the time at the you know the stuff happened it was the right place right time the right everything and I believe that right now the timing is perfect for for box Okay so tell me why the timing is perfect and exactly when did this idea come germinate with you about getting involved in this business always been there but after the sale we came over here we had some big hurdles we had to overcome after we you know the sale we did it we crushed it everything's good does businesses on fire right now after the ESPN ESPN deal such a game changer for us and I've been talking to some people and poking around then I you know a couple of years ago I think I you know announced that I'd be talking to all the boxing promoters and I have literally talked almost everybody there's a couple more guys flying in from England here in the next couple of weeks to meet with me and the the reception the boxing community has been shockingly good I didn't expect it to be as good as it has been it's been very very good pretty much everybody loves the idea of US getting involved in a sport right now like I said which I didn't I didn't see come in and I didn't expect John I'm ready to roll when you say everyone's excited about it you mean other promoters of the promoters why are they excited about it I today believe that first of all I believe let me start with desk believe that there's enough money out there for everybody plenty of money for everybody if you look at the money the boxing has made over the last hundred years you know it's a massive number and I think that there's for everybody the model is broken everybody knows the model is broken but nobody knows how to fix it and I have a lot of ideas that I'm going to start sharing with the world in October and I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me and I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me a lot of people will you know same same shit that happened when we took over the UFC and said we were going to do this that and all of a sudden the same thing that happened when we sold the company and you know we it was overpriced and now the company is going to take all the tippety that never goes away in this combat sports business that we're in we'll here we'll hear people that agree and disagree and we'll find out you know because I'm not I'm not one of these guys that says I'm GonNa do something and then doesn't do it I'm going to go steve this thing and we're gonNA take a run at it and see what happens is what you're doing right now the UFC fight pat stuff with Lou Dibella is that indicator of how you want to enter the space or do you have different type of plan different obviously you know the stuff we're doing so in other promoters right now and other promoters in MMA bringing all these guys in on on UFC fight pass which is going to end up where we watching that in October two so there'll be a hole relaunch of of UFC fight pass and interested in all combat sports I want to do something in an area of combat sports including boxing and bringing in other promoters with their fights on fi pass creating attention to these fights earning people to watch building up talent and then I have a much bigger plan for the sport why the question I had right off the bat is why would another podcast to talk about you you know you asked me to do this guy says yeah absolutely I'll do it but it's hard to do and not tell you everything I I'm thinking whatever tiptoe around okay wh- The answers here's my my the big overall question that I had coming into this was other promoters let's say it's top rank let's say it's Eddie hearn it's called Al Hamma promoter for the purpose of this discussion they have television deals huge television deals that at afford them platforms and bringing a lot of money why would they need you why would they want to work with you when independently it seems like they're all doing pretty well I don't know I don't I don't know if they're all doing pretty well I don't know if that's really the case They F- TV deals and they're on TV and they're putting on fights but I think and this is just my opinion I still think that the model is broken and needs to be fixed in doing these TV deals and signing fighters in doing what they're doing they haven't fixed the problems the problems need to be fixed or they're never going to go away and it just you know you're on this hamster wheel and like I said when I come out in October and announced what I'm going to do you and how I'm going to change it and how actually GonNa shake up in break the entire model in rebuild it there will be plenty of names Zehr's and probably agree with me and we'll see if I can do I'm sure there are a lot of people that agree with you that the model is broken in boxes in this way too much talk about fights that don't happen then fights it actually do happen and that's not something you deal with regularly in UFC big fights tend to happen but but your mind what is what's broken about the boxing model and you look at what's going on right now what is specifically broken about it I can't talk about that stuff because it literally lead right into what I'm going to do and what I'm going to change or attempt to change and I don't WanNa be so arrogant that you know what I'm GonNa do this and I'm going to do that I'm going to try I'm gonNA give it a shot I've always wanted to do this I've always wanted to try this I think that a lot of the ideas and a lot of the things that we implemented into the sport of mixed martial arts have worked we've really created a business that's that's built a last my partners the for Titas left for years ago the business I'm going to leave here Sunday and the business will go on without me to you know that's when you know you've built a real business and I think I know what to do with boxing will it work we'll see do you think that how you do business in UFC can be you can it translates over to how you can do business in boxing because the pay models are for and how it all shakes out yeah very different and and the the you know there's always this talk you know we went through this talk for fifteen years almost twenty years where you don't pay your fighters boxers get a finders get paid everybody gets paid everybody's being paid and it's not just the top two or three everybody on the Ross got over six hundred guys that are getting paid and making a living and feeding their families and buying houses and cars and all these the things now when you look at boxing a handful of guys may crazy money and that's the way it's always been built and then you have you know thousands of people don't so I think that we can create a pay system the benefits everybody I mean they're still fights out there where you just turned pro in guys are making four hundred bucks a fight you know one hundred bucks around and things like that you got guys fighting for world titles for ten around fifteen grand That's that's what I WANNA fix to be a effective with what you're trying to do you in mixed martial arts do you effectively have monopoly you the the king with with most of the top fighters in the business do you have to create one in boxing well that's not true the reality is that we're far from a monopoly I have I have I go out and compete against Viacom these guys sit on five billion in cash there there's a company out of Asia right now the just raised a shitload of money and compete with us to and you think that I have you know the best fighters in the world because I go out and I find this talent I bring them in and I build you know I'll in Kana McGregor is the best example nobody knew who conor McGregor was six years ago right now this is one of the biggest stars in all of sports Israel out of Sonya is about the fight and the biggest fight ever in the history of Australia you know and what three years ago they didn't know who Israel was three years ago nobody knew Israel he's GonNa fight in the biggest fight in the history of Australia and the list goes on and on rowzee and I can go on for days with talent that we've built here homegrown and do the same thing in boxing part of that though is getting the best to fight the best which is what you've done in UFC that's proven to be exceedingly difficult to say the least in boxing how how does that chain with what you're trying to do so that's exactly what has to change that definitely ask change the best half the fight the best so what you do you go out and you build this talent bring him in sign them build them and you have the best the best it's just it's it's the culture here it's the way and and when you talk about who's the champ there should never been questioned the champions because you fought the best to get there was offered one hundred million dollars to fight Anthony Josh when he turned it down this heavyweight thing is science and if you took I don't care if you take the four big fun heavyweights that are out there right now right Joshua wilder fury and rees right so those guys could fight each other for the next three years and make hundreds of millions of dollars there's so much money there ever there's enough money for everybody even if they're promoted by all different guys there's enough money for everybody but you gotta get them to do it you gotta get these guys to fight but the way that the the way that the the world I'll call it right now the world in boxing structured right now you got zone own top rank over on ESPN showtime jumps in every once in a while and does something you know they're not as now you gotta get you have to build a stable of guys in weight classes build them up so we we bought the UFC we bought an old wooden acting on those three letters and like eleven contract six or something like that we had eleven guys under contract there's over six hundred people under contract now and it was done over the last almost twenty built this business but it can be do have personally do you have the appetite the passion for that to to play the long game with comes to box listen I just signed a new seven year deal I'm.
Hours before UFC 234, middleweight champ Robert Whittaker pulls out of main event with hernia
"Once again, a hernia forcing UFC middleweight champ, Robert Whitaker out of his title defence against Kevin gas delimit UFC, two thirty four that came just hours prior to their match up in Australia. Huge blow for Whitaker who was again forced to pull out of a title defense on home soil in February of two thousand eighteen is well also due to injury UFC president Dana white stay now you were just with Whittaker at the hospital. What kind of update can you give us about his health? He's in the recovery room. I was with his wife and his family. This is one of those freak accidents. Where the doctor said literally never seen this type of injury in a young person. This usually happens to old people as is bowel and his intestines didn't happen yesterday. After the fight. They think he's had this problem, and it's been going in and out. And it's one of those situations had it popped out during the fight. It could have been fatal for him. So this is really serious. Hopefully, we don't know exactly what happened with the doctor, hopefully, they popped it back in and sewed it up. And if that's the case he'll be four weeks. But this was this freak freak injury less than one percent are doctor here at the UFC who's been doing this for thirty years has never seen it ever and his in his career and not in a young person. It's usually in much older people's well, thankfully, it was caught before something even more dangerous happened. I'm certainly disappointing for him disappointing for Calvin gasoline as well were you able to speak with the challenger? It's disappointing for everybody. "The case you missed it. Breaking news UFC two thirty four has taken a massive hit and there's no sunshine in here. No, sunshine, where any MMA fans are especially the ones in Australia because everyone was looking forward to Robert Whittaker the first Australian UFC champion getting an opportunity to finally defend that title middleweight title on his home turf in Melbourne later this evening, Rod Laver Arena sold out in ten minutes against Kelvin gasoline finally getting to see him back. Well, we just found out twenty minutes ago. The fight is off management has just confirmed with me as well. The fight is off. They're going to issue. A statement in a matter of moments Whitaker out due to a hernia fight cancelled Israel Sonny Anderson Silva's now the new main event so how does this affect Kelvin gasoline? Twelve weeks heart camp make sacrifices, but you know, it wasn't awake cuts related issues. And he's just. As workers. Warrior. It will not more injury or even hard injury. Doc, even more from fighting. A great guy. We wish him nothing. But the best. Wish must be recovered his management just told me that he's heavily sedated as we speak and he's going into surgery, right? This moment. So like, I said a horrible tournaments for Robert Whitaker. What does this mean for Kelvin? What does the UFC told you? I know it's very fresh. But. You know is he going to get another title shot? What are they going to do with the belt? You have any idea. Day right now, I get to speak with Dana white. He said I personally. Calvin Calvin is the number one contender. He's gonna see what happened. Out. We're going to go ahead and see maybe the winner between Anderson Israel. Covered. You know? Maybe you can do it thirteen. You know, what's what's I'm kind of looking forward to. But let's see what happened. Did they try to keep Kelvin on the card was that ever discussed? No does not disgusting. I spoke to. Dana. And that does not discussed that. Oh, you know. Listen, I think you have a good minivan. Anderson Silva is great. I'm not sure this is going to be a five round or real. Oh. You know, it is what it is. I feel horrible rubber Whitaker. Yeah. I feel bad for coffee too. Under the right. How is he handling? It has been handling the news Kuban workers. Okay. Calvin was ready. We was ready. The Bishop of his life and. We believe he was going to be that, you know, that middleweight champ. But robert. No injuries taken away from the fight. And like, I said, you know. Nothing but respect and we wish him nothing, but speeder recovery, and I hope he's okay. We're talking to. You're not gonna hear me, you know, me get me on the program talking trash in promoting and get on people. But certain situation we have to be human. Absolutely. I think everybody out there. Everyone to give respect keep Robertson. They prayer. I wish nothing but the best talking to manager Elliot. Bill Aziz here on area who wanna show on ESPN radio's presented by Uber. Breaking news out of the world to the USC USC to thirty four tonight in Melbourne Australia on pay per view, Robert Wood. It covers coming gasping for the middleweight title cancelled that flight has been canceled because Robert Whitaker is going under the knife. In a matter of moments in Australia for a hernia certainly wish him the best. I'm curious Ali is Kelvin going to get paid. How's this gonna work because you just went through a training camp? What's the deal? I'm certain UFC has told you what they're gonna do. Can you? Tell us. Yeah. Always come through for me, you know. And he said he was going to kick out. You know, I understand you know, he went to a camp. And and you put a lot of money into it investment. A lot of money into it. And at the end of the day. This is. You know, I'm not worried about him. I know he will be paid. Thanks for doing this Ali very sorry about the news our best to to Kelvin as well. Speak for everyone. Everyone is bummed out about this. We're looking forward to it. I appreciate you coming on for a few minutes. He will take care. He was. And I have no doubt in my mind. Dana white and you'll see them because they're taking care of my guys sounds good. Thank you Ellie. Let's go back to the phone lines. Now talk to more fans. Breaking news again Robert Whitaker out of tonight's made event. Ernie a- surgery scheduled for Madame moments from now in Melbourne devastating news, not only for the UFC. But for Robert Whitaker who continues to get all these freaking bad breaks time. And again, he had shingles. Prior to the last time that they were in Melbourne with him headlining that card was supposed to be against Luke rock hold now. Just hours before the event he has to pull out and is going under the knife Joseph Detroit. How are you? Good. How about you area? I'm doing okay. Good. I just got a few questions for you that I think they should let the winner of tonight. And Calvin fight for the official title Whitaker should be stripped. It's just my opinion. Well, I wanna see how long he's out for this is definitely a bad break. But I typically like to subscribe to the rule that if you don't defend your title or you're not scheduled to fight within a year. Then you should be stripped in this case he last fought in June. So let's see how far he's out. Let's see how long he's out for. I should say let's see how long of a recovery this is needed. And then let's talk about stripping in. But I think right now, it's a little premature to talk about stripping. Because he pulled out last year knee injury. I think it's better for him. You don't have to take some time off. But my second question is not question opinion. True. They're gonna make McGregor verse Copley for the I think it should be Tony Emporia for the interim. Yeah, that's Donald Surani just talking right now from what I'm hearing the interim belt isn't being discussed. I don't think a belt is needed for that kind of fight. I don't think a belt elevates that kind of fight certainly not an interim title. So at this juncture, I think that's just cowboy talking and look he's going to get the fight. It seems like that's the front runner. I don't think you need to push for an interim thing anyone wants it, quite frankly, I think the interim belt would would almost like soil that that fight. I don't think anyone wants to see an interim belt online. I don't think either guys should be fighting for an interim belt when you have guys like Tony dust emporium ally. Doing what they've done as of late. Let's go back to the phone lines and say Hello to Corey in California, Corey how are you? Hey, I'm good. How you doing? I'm doing. Okay. Some some disappointing news, but we still have a car tonight. But yeah, it's it's a bummer. These things happen from time to time in in mixed martial arts and. I mean, this is a big one especially because it's the Australian who's now out of the card. Yeah. Honestly, like you said before man, I don't know how these injuries happened the day of the fight. How much are you actually doing? Such a serious injury. But I don't know it's fight game. And it happens. But. So my original copies I called about it. Now trying to shake up. I was gonna say do you think that Anderson is? His own legacy a little bit by taking these bigger fights with the much younger guys are like the fights with whatever, obviously, they're bigger fights. And he's a big name. And do you think that you have tarnished by throwing them into a fight with Israel, just because if Anderson, but then it turns around and now Anderson is card having a big name for Israel to fight. So do you think that enersen should lay off he's bigger fights? Or do you think he's finer you think his legacy Jenner hurt in the end after all this look if we're talking about tarnishing legacies? The only thing that's maybe tarnished his legacy. So to speak is the fact that he was caught with PD's twice other than that. I mean, I don't think opponents will tarnish anyone's like seeing fact to meet on the elevates your legacy because you're finding the toughest guys even as you're in your swansong so to speak. I like the fact that he's taken this fight. Everyone thought it was a mistake. It's an opponent that he thinks he could beat he's fourteen years older. He feels like maybe he's not as experiences him. Maybe he hasn't fought the kind of competition that he's. So I don't think this is. I mean, imagine he pulls it off great story George Foreman. It's like Randy tour all over again. So I honestly don't think that he's tarnishing his legacy on this one. Let's go to one quick call before we take another break Hamilton, Ohio. What's up man areas? A pleasure speaking with you. I want to go back to the UC days, or so I started hearing your voice. Boy that was handled by the UFC. I am so proud that you've come to where you had with the hard work. You've done to put yourself in today's position. Thank you know, as far as what's happening transplanted melborn sad. And that's the core. So the nature of the game. My question to you is at forty three year old is now put himself in position we he's probably going to be having to save this card. I understand that. There's not a lot of four weeks on your old man at his weight. They can do anything except maybe defend themselves. Does he really have a chance to see wing? And do you see this only in the heavyweight World War forty yours can compete one or two times? This gentleman is not tarnishing his world. It just a building him being allowed to do this because of his name and his past of fighting really realistically can this man really compete at this level with this young kid. I mean that remains to be seen. I don't think it's a bad matchup firm. In fact, I'd say he's too big of an underdog. I'm curious to see if he can turn back the clock tonight. But yeah, it's a great call to great point. The best news is this flight hasn't been canceled. So we're about to find out in a matter of moments in a matter of hours, whether or not Anderson Silva can hang with Israel to Sonya after the break. We're going to be joined by my colleague, my partner shell son. And he's in Melbourne. I want to get his take on things. He knows coming gasoline almost better than anyone. He was the one who drafted him on the ultimate fighter way. Back when devastating news Robert Whittaker's out of tonight's UFC two thirty four main event. And I just got details about how it all went down. I'll tell you about all that and more right after the break. You're listening to Hawaii's may show right here on ESPN radio and ESPN app this
Raiders' Derek Carr apparently wants to have MMA fight with ESPN host who questioned his character
"So Derek Carr the raiders quarterback who spent a full season enduring life with Jon Gruden. You would think that would toughen them up a little bit. You know, show 'em thing or two. Maybe Derek Carr after spending months of not being able to bite back. His head coach is biting back at anyone and everyone who would criticize me. I noticed this on Twitter last night MDIS wrote something about it a PF. Derek Carr wasn't happy that the hosts of I take max Kellerman, Stephen a Smith. Damn story. Thank you. Derek Carr wasn't happy. With them criticizing him. He was informed via social media that they were criticizing him. And Derek Carr responded to the criticism. The news of the criticism by saying it's because I blocked them both for talking trash about our team. Those two clouds don't know anything about this game would love to actually sit and breakdown film with these two on TV just to show their viewers. How incompetent parentheses lacking qualification? They are about our game. Now, first of all first of all. Why in the hell does Derek Carr feel compelled to explain what incompetent means? Right. This some random word does he think that incompetent may be too much of a fancy word like maybe people aren't gonna follow alongside better. Go ahead. And supply the definition. Thank you. Derek Carr for explaining what incompetent means I'm lacking qualification to understand it. So thank you. That was just weird. So then Derek Carr directed a tweet to at UFC and at Dana white, the president of the UFC, which now has a relationship with the SPN, which employs Kellerman and Steven A and car said he'd like to step into the octagon with these quote, unquote, clowns. Hey, how do I challenge a couple of these clowns on TV to a fight? I think we should start a business together. We're pro athletes can challenge some of these people to an octagon fight until they give us an answer. And of course, the first line of cars Twitter bio follower of Jesus, Christ husband, father and Oakland raider. Yes. Jesus would admit that. What what did Jesus always say? Turn the other cheek and then punch them in the jaw was that. It. Never keep your left low and lead if you're right. Yeah. Derek what's wrong with you, buddy? Look must most of the criticism of the raiders and Derek Carr from this past season was fully deserved. And if he's going to. I'm not a big fan of grown men acting like the little kids. This is the stereotypical stuff. The narrative the locker move, right? If you can't match wits with them beat the crap out
Pentagon chief of staff Kevin Sweeney resigns
"Not pleased. Another senior official at the Pentagon has resigned. The third since Donald Trump announced last month that US troops would be withdrawn from Syria. The chief of staff Rear Admiral, Kevin Sweeney is the latest to leave grant ferret reports in a terse resignation letter. Kevin Sweeney said that after two years at the Pentagon. It was the right time to return to the private sector. He said it's been an honor to serve the made. No mention of Donald. Trump. His departure follows that the Defense Secretary James Mattis and the department spokeswoman Dana white it adds to a sense of uncertainty surrounding the Trump administration's defense and foreign policies since the surprise announcement of the planned

"But they're talking about two different things. Oscar saying let's solve this with my fists. Dana saying, I will continue to fight you. With my words. I watched all of Dana's appearance on get up. He he absolutely emailed people. Get me numbers, and he was going through itemize line by line. What he paid his fighters any went with facts to try to undo Oscar de LA Hoya. He's totally undressing him. The way that Oscar would under as an opponent in the ring, let's breakdown this fight Dana has size on them. But Oscars, obviously got the hands. Well, one of them's a professional fighter and one of them has never laced them up. Well, I was going to say I believe was an aerobics instructor who I believe. That's where it started for Dana white if I'm not mistaken, do I have that wrong. And I I don't even say that is a slight. I think that's just a fact in a white would gotta assume tell him self. He doesn't wanna fight Oscar de LA Hoya you crazy. Like, why would you wanna fight Oscar de LA Hoya the man's hands are weapons after relocating to Las Vegas. He worked as an aerobics instructor. Dana white did. But he has a background in the fight team didn't escape. I would. I got some crazy in them. I'm not saying that I would fight him. I was boxer size. Right. Let's move the line. Then you and Dana white verse. Oscar. You gotta go bigger guy to make that to make that because we can just sort of rush him into a corner. You gotta make it a guy who could throw it like domico ensue we would lose to boxer size you dealt say. No. But I'm just saying you can't. Sixty pounds. Right. So you think you beat them? I'm not no not me me. And Dana white the two of you would beat it. I think we would just rush at him and tackle him Oscars bigger than I thought he's five ten I got Oscar she too, by the way, okay? First round knockout. You've got him beating us both in. I. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Chris Cody just did look at me. This is a true story. This is what he just did. He just sent both of his fists out at the same time for the double knock out of Dan Levitan and Dana white, and he did it even though we're in a soundproof room with..

"Where's a trip to Mars Mosk? Oh, you hear what he said about? Moore's the first few people who go to Mars on his mission. Spacex whatever it is. They're probably gonna die. Stugatz. So I want to have this writer on because I think I want to expose Elam must because I'm not credible enough to do it. But it's got to be my guy. He seems to have facts you want him to give you the facts that you can then be armed with say, look when we go to Mars he is going to kill us for the donlevatar show with their Stu guys on ESPN radio. All right. We have been chronicling with great, delight. The verbal war between Dana white and Oscar de LA Hoya. If you're not familiar with who these people are Dana white runs, the UFC. It makes Marshall. Arts. Oscar de LA Hoya is a great boxer who has since become a promoter who doesn't mind brawling with people like Dana white. So here's Oscar de LA Hoya. Now, keep in mind. This is the starting point on. This is the Dana white was calling him. I believe a lion coquette or a loser coquette one or the other. I don't remember which but not germane. Here's Oscar de LA Hoya saying how he'd like to solve this war of words with Dana. White sounds defensive here Jewish Vence. Let's let's get in the ring is that what is that? How you want to send this? Yeah. Why not get in the ring three rounds? That's do this. Let's let's let's do this under Canale Cinque with MIO. I'll even give you five months, so you can get off the juice, and then we can you know, getting great shape. And then we go three rounds. And look, I'm I'm gonna give you what a fifty pound advantage. It's okay. I can take you on. Let's do it. The thing about battling with Dana white. You know? This from years of having watched while you guys used wait, wait, he didn't these never laced up a glove in his life. That's courtesy of Luke Thomas Sirius XM's by nation. Give me the courtesy on this sound that we're gonna play of Dana white who is the courtesy or do. You have to look up talking. Okay. Get up at Dana white responding to Oscar de LA Hoya. The guy is an absolute liar. And listen, we could sit down and we can do this on TV. We can go head to head. We can also take drug tests if he wants to do that too. I'm ready to go. Let's go Oscar you wit any show you doing I wanna hear you stumble and bumble and mumble through you know, trying to he doesn't run the business. He knows nothing about the business. He knows nothing about the sport. And he's not very bright. So let's do it. Yeah..

"Chocolate del. Yeah. Who was a loyal amazing? Good friend in to me through the whole building of the sport. Matt Hughes, again, another loyal good guy who helped a sports so to pick one specific. But then, you know, Anderson Silva, who in his prime was an absolute murderer and was doing things to people that other people couldn't do and that people couldn't stop, right? So so it's tough to pick just one. Yeah. I know she's George saint-pierre. Oh, an Ronda Rousey. Oh, yeah. Ronda Rousey, for sure. One of the greatest athletes I've ever worked with my. Career. Okay. Amazing on every level absolute beast, her work level was, you know, higher than any athlete I've ever worked with she burn the candle at both ends and was amazing for the sport. Pacino deniro. Dana white those are my three favorite actors in the world because when you pretend that you're upset about be McGregor brawl after or McGregor throwing stuff at a bus. It is my favorite thing you ever do when you put it on the the serious. Dana white voice, you're like, this is really bad for the sport. And in inside your brain. It's just dollar bills. Yup. Yup. Yup. Yup. So think about this k- I've been I've been doing this for for eighteen years. I've been flying all over the world, you know, promoting the UFC doing all this stuff. Then I'm in a car. I just left the arena in Brooklyn. And I'm driving back to my hotel. I get a call from one of my guys saying we've being attacked, and it's Conor McGregor is attacking us. What it doesn't even make sense? I don't even understand what you're saying. We go back and fighters hurt go off the card employees were there, and we're attacked and hit and all these other things. How could I not be upset about that? Okay..

"Yes. Or no Wisconsin's entire game plan going into the final four is getting your way. Yep. Take charge is getting you get in the way of us enjoying basketball enjoying the watching a everyone's man's everyone. Put it on the poll Guillermo is consonant basketball game plan going into March men at the just getting everyone's way. They get no way of the enjoyment of the experience of watching it. They get in the way of playing it. You should see like the looks on the players from NC state. It is they are furious. It's like come on, man. Let us like basketball. And the charge. We version give us because we got in his way. That is there another. There's not another team in the sport. That does it more that way than Wisconsin. Is there? I would say Wisconsin does it into sport among the. The big schools. They do Wisconsin exists in both sports just to get into everybody's way. You're right. What is it about Wisconsin that they're just putting together? This mutated bland baked potato of sports aesthetic charges and run for three yards per catch. Right. And we're going to get there. We're gonna get to the final twenty teams in the league and three yards at a time or five charges. At a time. I wanna go back though to the idea of Dana white talking this way. In public the Commissioner of sport. And I want to ask you the question seriously is that in any way bad for business? Like, I understand that that's not professional, and it's it's not the way that you're used to having your commissioners behave unless they're Vince McMahon, right? It's part of the reason that I love this sport is part of the reason that I love this, dude. They're kind of unapologetically in the gutter with some cleaning up around the arts in mixed martial arts, which there is you know, the fight game. It's marvelous to watch. But it's cockfighting Dana white seems to understand the job of a promoter. And I think what he's doing here in ripping Oscar de LA Hoya in protecting Chuck Ladele in Tito Ortiz, fighting he's actually on the right side of the moral issue. Right. I don't feel like all feel like the right side of it. Yeah. All of us are worried for that. We don't need to be the licensing fifty year old fighters who are Punchdrunk, but Oscar de LA Hoya is gonna make a dollar by any means necessary and. And so is Dana white, by the way. Yeah. Agreed. You're those are inconsistent moralities from Dana white because if they know why proclamation is fifteen so looks that way he's going to be using him to correct, right? Even if Dana feels like broccoli retired ten years ago. I now we can say the Dana cares about the fighters in a meaningful human way. But I don't think that you'll hear from a lot of fighters who would say differently. I don't know a lot of famous UFC fighters who are older aren't in the US anymore. And they're getting their fights cleared on Delatour going to go. That's the shamrocks are still roaming around there somewhere. Right, spike. Tv get Ortiz is fighting Hailstone what ways right about that? Though. What he says it's a young man's game. There's no disputing what Dana white is saying there. But let's just play that sound again because you never get it. You have see unfiltered Dana white talking about Oscar de LA Hoya the promoter on a fight that shouldn't have happened between. Tito Ortiz that got chocolate del knocked out and around. Listen, I love chocolate Dell and I don't ever want. To bad mouth Chuck without. But the reality is let's say this. I I heard last week the coquette Oscar de LA weirdo. It's It's caulking. caulking. I don't have any place to tell guys when to retire. You know, I don't tell when the first of all, it's called friendship friendship. Coquette? I've been friends with with Chuck with Dell for twenty years the reality is that chocolate del retired when he should have retired eight nine years ago, however long it was and Chuck with almost fifty years old and has no business fighting anymore..

"Stugatz. UCLA beat Cal forty two twenty four and at the end of that gain. That would be last night. What did I say yesterday nuts to God's? I do it to Neil degrasse Tyson to do it to me. I'm gonna do it to you. Okay. Theo these live at our show with to God's on ESPN radio was Belle harbor. Harry. Winston dainty women white gloves long, white gloves security guards locked doors basketball shorts. A hat a t shirt and Dan being very awkward. Yes. Okay. Covers it and then at it's an added bonus. Yes. Very loud as well. Asking for what I was asking for incorrectly. So there's this Dana white sound speaking of very loud. And this is the context that you need. Tito, Ortiz and chocolate. Dell are old fighters. Dana white has had a long running feud with Tito Ortiz. They hate each other. Chuck Ladele was a good friend of his, but he worries about chocolate Dell. Because he shouldn't be finding anymore. And Oscar de LA Hoya put on the fight and UFC unfiltered, and we're going to have to filter this for you because it has a lot of curses UFC, unfiltered, ask Dana white about who's to blame for those guys fighting and Oscar de LA Hoya is the one that he's blaming listen, I love chocolate Dell and I don't ever want to bad mouth chocolate out. But the reality is let's say this. I I heard last week the coquette Oscar de LA weirdo caulking that I don't have any place to tell guys when to retire. You know, I don't tell funds on the first of all it's called friendship. Friendship. Coquette? I've been friends with with chocolate del her twenty years the reality is that chocolate del retired when he should have retired eight nine years ago, however, long it was and Chuck with elbow almost fifty years old and has no business fighting anymore. And the fact that that that the state of California even let that happen is. Gusting. There comes a day and age fighting is the young man's game. You can't do it. You know, an Oscar de LA Hoya says oh come over to golden boy where we respect the fighters, and it makes me sick. What what these fighters were paid and all the out of fourteen whites on the card five bucks for amateur fights. Which means he didn't pay him. Right, right. What do you talking about you Kokand junkie, irrespective fighter so much? He couldn't even remember the name at the press conference. I hope somebody talk Dalen Hoya into fighting again. I hope it state of California making the fight. And I hope he gets knocked out just like chocolate. Dell did in the first round. Okay. Nutball? Again on filter. Meltzer through. I mean, it's pretty good filter. But good gut the unfiltered stuff, man. He sounded the day. It's brought to you by Dollar Shave Club.
