"It. That's what that's a tough pill to swallow. Not all of these things. Let's let's be fair T the politicians who have been in control for the last 20 years on both sides. Not all of these things have been entirely in their control. Obama had to do some things with quantitative easing T Get the economy coming back post the 08. Nonsense. Some of those things were a little bit overspending, but some of them were in necessity. Bush Bush number two did some of the same thing. So you know, inflation itself isn't a force of nature. Sometimes it's economic policy, sometimes just monetary byproduct, but we have to be careful. So that's a really great comment. What else? I've had the virus and I'm waiting the 90 days like my doctor suggested. Now the mask mandates are being lifted. Can I go someplace without my mask, even though I have the antibodies, but have not been vaccinated. Well, Chris, Alberta is not a doctor. There is no MD or D o after my name, and I certainly am not an expert in virology. So I'm has it in to give a response to that. But I tell you, what if I had had the virus and I may have I mean, let's be fair. It's been 16 months. I've had plenty of coughs and sniffles. I have seasonal allergies. How would I know if I've had it? I've never had anything else. But if I knew I had it And I had those anybody's in my system. I wouldn't be afraid to walk around that a mask. I mean, that doesn't mean you have to kiss the nearest person and it doesn't mean you have to, You know, start looking your fingers to get those stupid grocery bags open, but there should be a little bit of freedom out there. Well, child abuse, I think is is is a big couple of words in that genre. I think there's probably some elements of unfairness when it comes to these Children enjoying themselves. I mean, there is far far worse things that happened to the Children not only in our country, but Children across the world, then being asked, were made to wear a mask, especially when they're fussing and they're pulling at it. And You know they're trying to pick their nose and trying to, you know, eat grapes, and they're trying to grab things. It's just it's just hard. But is it necessary? Has it ever really been necessary? We may find out you know, years from now, in retrospect, and really examining numbers that have been thoroughly audited and filtered for all the nonsense we see that Covert deaths that were really a heart attack were really a gunshot. The rates of infection that traveled upstream from child to parent or to a child to teacher where we might not know. For quite some time. But in terms of making these little tiny kids run around the playground with a mask on affecting their breathing, there's some merit to that argument. And Many of us still want to know who to point the finger out. Who's to blame in this? How did it actually start tons and tons of maybe not new information but more thorough information coming out. Joining us this morning, Dr. John Fleming, former four term Louisiana congressman, Republican of the fourth District in himself. Family, family medicine physician Dr Flemming. Thanks for joining what have you been hearing and seeing in terms of these congressional reports in terms of who's really to blame for this outbreak? Well, Good morning, Chris. Um, I'll also remind you that I spent the last 10 months of the Trump Administration as dipping deputy chief of staff. Working with Mark matters, the chief of staff and we were obviously watching this thing is it unfolded? What we're getting now is the Devon Nunez, who is the ranking member of the interpreting the House. Has been disclosing some information that points very strongly in a circumstantial evidence way that this had to be coming from the Wuhan lab. It's the only level four of our virology lab. End the whole of China, as opposed to the fact that their animal wet markets all across China, But this virus, of course leaked out of Wuhan. In fact, the Chinese literally shut down travel to and from Wuhan. Shortly after it began to spread. And so you know it. It appears very obviously, that is far more likely to have been something that leaked from the lab. Some of the earliest victims We're in Wuhan Aske far as we can tell the first victim. Um Patient zero is we call it in medicine lived in Wuhan, probably either local doctor or someone a scientists who were in the lab laboratory on We've had reports since 2017 that there been problems there. There's been a leakage of of things that are ambassadors. Been reporting that and with we've a source we could tell. The earliest victim of this was in late 2019 20 before it became a pandemic. Mm. Well, Dr Fleming, I You know, as as a nerd myself, I have done Hundreds of thousands of Wordsworth of reading on this and I have become very paranoid, frankly, of what I read because so much of it has some inherent bias. The one thing that I can't seem to figure out is that Why does China Why does us for so many years participate in these gain of function type of studies? I'II taking a virus that is known only to be deadly in an animal and find a way to modify it to Frankenstein? It Too attached to human cells. And furthermore, hasn't the United States in the last handful of years trying to shut down some of these studies? I don't have details on that. Obviously, it has biological weapons. Uh, potential. I mean, think about it if you were to develop A virus that was highly contagious and deadly as this one actually is, you could inoculate Silently stealthily your own military and maybe even your own population and then release it in another country. As you just said over well, over half million Americans have died of this millions of people around the world. And so it definitely has military interest. Now, whether we're doing this type of research in the U. S, I don't know. But as we all know that that it in China Military fuses and government in general fuses with everything, whether it is commerce or health care or whatever. And so you could say, I do believe this was an accident. Dr. Redfield, the former Head of CDC under Trump believes that it did accidentally leaked from that laboratory. But you see the potential where this could be very dangerous, and it's something that we bet we have to treat this almost like like nuclear weapons where we have Certain agreements, and we can even have mutual evaluation and transparency. Well, you know whether it's an accident or not, seems to be two of, you know, to a degree, a moot point. Certainly there's there's things that are accidental. Some of them happened from negligence, which would I would imagine had some role in this whole thing. But in the grand scheme of things, you know within our own borders if we do something negligent and accident occurs and And kills or hurts or infects. Thousands of people are hundreds of thousands of people were not indemnified from that. Unfortunately, it seems like with this scenario, it Z fairly irrelevant if it came from Wuhan, indeed, and even if that's proven what kind of You know, reparations. Will we get if any from them ever? I don't know that there is a gonna be a solution to that. Do you know I don't even think we'll get a simple in admission. From Damn. What we would like to see is that they disclose information. So we find out what went wrong, so it won't happen again. This is not the first time something like this has happened. From the room behind lab. It's just the first time it said worldwide impact, and so they need to improve their procedures, their safety procedures and so forth. "That Briana Noble and Kaylie all about earnings. On the auto companies, which can seem kind of dry, But this is very, very real. I think we're living through something kind of an automotive agony and the ecstasy. These companies are doing very well financially despite the chip shortage in the hit to inventories, but they were given the trends and what we're being told this could get worse before it gets better. I wanted to, and I wanted to bring into the conversation. Laura Heston, the esteemed producer here at W. J. R. Um what do you think, Kaylie and or Briana? Take a stab at what do you think this is going to mean for consumers? I mean, if if Jim CeBIT is having a fraction, or 1/10 of what he normally would have in terms of vehicles. At some point, these guys are gonna get close to zero R thing. Actually, I'm sorry, Daniel. Both ladies have dropped. I can get them back on if you'd like me to. But, you know, I can't talk about this. If you'd like, Sure. Go ahead. I mean, I'm just getting back on the line. Sure. Okay. Okay. I'll let you know another So, um, uh, e think one of the real big questions here we need to understand is, uh, this is something we've never seen before. And I think this is you put this under the rubric of of unintended consequences of the pandemic. This is revealing how how fragile supply lines for certain components are, uh, in this case, microchips. On what and that are needed in the vehicle and that they're dependent on just a small number of producers largely in Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Politicians are starting to wake up to this in Washington. Um And, uh, and starting to think about Do we need to try incentivize investment in, um, policies here in Washington that can Maintain these vehicles and maintain the supply lines. I think it's gonna be a real key key issue. Daniel Kelly is back. Haley. How you doing? What is this going to do? What does this mean when Jim see, but says he should normally have 200 vehicles, and he's got 20 or 1/10 of that. What's this mean for consumers? Well, what it means is that if you want a certain type of vehicle, good luck trying to get it. I mean, um it's definitely limits. You know the types of trims that they have available and you may just have to settle for something different from what you originally wanted. Not only that, you'll be paying a higher price you mentioned Some of the average transaction prices and I just got some data this morning from Cox. And like you said, the Cadillac was, I believe he pulled a pro fast 61,000. So it's for the average transaction price and Chevy was over 40,000. So as you can imagine, it's pretty expensive to buy a car right now. So this means that new car buyers this mean the new car buyers are the disproportionately well more well off and used car. I mean, I had an instance where used car I had a dealer told me that they're dying for used cars. On. I think In part, it's because because of price is right. Yeah, that used car prices are actually Jim. When I talked to him yesterday, he mentioned that as well. And he said that by it's just they're just astronomically high right now, um And still because he has fewer new cars he's having from his new car salesman, so used cars and they started out with a can't remember this specific numbers and he was like 30 years cars and they end up selling like 85 with the end of the month, so they somehow pulled a rabbit out The hat found an extra 50 years. Cars themselves, Um, just to make up. You know the fact that they don't have the new vehicles on the watch yourself. So e was just gonna ask you sky as that, you know, dealing for saying that used cars at auction. They're going for $4000 above what they normally would, And so many of them are are just trying to get as many as they can so that they have vehicles to sell because some people are being pushed into the used car market, especially if With the develop Bility that's out there. That's really kind of exposes. A lost opportunity doesn't mean if you look at these numbers of these companies and and how well they're doing, imagine what they would be doing. 18 million units are and they had more choice and higher equipped vehicles. Thies numbers would even be a lot higher and think about, you know the old him before you guys were covering this industry. But the old GM and the old Chrysler when faced in a situation like this Uh, you know, a decade or more ago. This would have been a cataclysmic right, but they're going through this, and they're still making Really good money and really good margins, right? Yeah, I think that there's but, um, you know, just being in that point. I want to talk to Jim yesterday didn't see that from Village board, he said. No, he He knows that people have money is thundering now and if he had the vehicles, he would be selling all of them, but they don't have the vehicles. So it's frustrating for dealers when they know that there's my baby had, but they you know Can't make it because they don't have have the majority to sell. They don't have a lot of options now, do they? I mean, they just got to keep mixing and matching and trying to keep things not getting any chips. Um, yeah. I mean, I didn't really provide Lee. Do you have this really provide, like, you know, estimates of like how many chips were getting in and like, where? How That's looking. But they're getting obviously they're getting in as they get in ships there. Parking some vehicles, and they're adding those chips in when they get them. And the chips situation is is, um, you know, it's very dynamic because it's so deep in the supply chain so they don't have released previously. They didn't have, like a line of sight that I think that they would have wanted on it. And I think they're getting better at that. Don't know Briana would agree. Yeah, No, that was something that Richard Palmer, the chief financial officer explains. This really emphasized that's being worked on right now is act increasing visibility that because these semi conductors, their bidding, being, um Put into component so being assembled so there it's so deep into the supply chain that traditionally the automakers haven't had insight into. That status story sort of being forced to get more involved in that, um and right now, the focus for them has been priority, sizing the in demand and most profitable. Profitable vehicles. That's why you're seeing some plans go down and others they keep up because they're conserving the chips that would go and, you know, um Products that don't sell as well as others and putting us in high demand products. He doesn't know what to expect, Amaze one of his best known months so he could go into June with less than 100. He doesn't know so Definitely, um You know, While while there's money to be made right now, it's also, uh, I think dealers it's scary situation. Don't have something to sell, that's for sure.
