"And the Bears of the one team in the league that has history of choosing that to meet with him. That doesn't bowl Merk. You gotta admit, like it. Does it matter in the grand scheme of things I don't know. But the optics of it are very bad, Aren't they? All these years later, when he's as good as he is, and Mitch can't play all that? Well, it's true. I mean, like the optics of that are bad, right? You don't even have dinner with Shawn you but you had a You barely had a conversation with him at the combine. And that was it. That was the end of it. Yeah, that's true and what they had some dog and pony show, didn't they? When they went to his pro day, didn't they? What they were like trying to throw people off the scent that they want. They didn't want anybody to know that or he didn't want anybody to know that Tre Biscuit was his guy, And so he kind of I think they they sent some people the Watsons Pro Day, but they ignored the dinner because he was too busy going to meet Jim McMahon. At the steakhouse in Chapel Hill to talk to Mitch instead of really, according to Shawn Watson at Clemson's Pro Day. Did it look, he closed off the opportunity to be wild by the Shawn Watson in person. By not doing that he was clearly one of the top three quarterbacks on the board said I'm not drafting to Sean. I'm drafting Mitch and I'm taking Mr dinner tonight that says he met with Patrick Holmes and had dinner with Patrick Holmes. He had dinner with Mitch. Too risky. They chose not to do so with Watson. And now, years later, Mahomes will never be available. But the Shawn Watson is and you're the one franchise that I keep looking at. Not only did you pass him, but you may have burned bridges in the process. Doing it. I want to build the time machine and go back and just say Have you got to convince him to have dinner with him like we have to set it up with what he didn't even know. Like Ryan didn't even know all the sudden to Shawn Watson. She thought I was having dinner with Mitch. All sudden, Watson comes in. We have to go back in time and set it up that he's wooed so that he has dinner with Shawn Watch shot has to woo and the and the reason we know all this is because Dan Wieder has documented this and an extensive piece on the Chicago Tribune's Web site, So check it out twice left two years ago in last year. It was so good. He doubled down to just remind people Hey, by the way, Ryan Pace didn't even have dinner with Shawn Watson. Yeah, yeah, it's Carly, New York. Oh, by the way, camera quickly. You have whisky Wednesday. Coming up next. Also, there is a yes I'm great. Birthdays today. Oh, good. Well, you know how much I love birthdays, almost much like Hall of Fame. All right, let's do a few birthdays. We don't do it often enough anymore..

"I'm gonna talk about the 0.4 points about sports book happened Just a second. Don't forget you can download the points back, apt to do it right now, the fast and easy way to bat. And Brian as we were talking to J D. I actually grabbed the club Hawthorne APD and I money down on race night at Gulfstream on the one horse, Charlie, the Greek, So we're No, There are more things that I can sit. Look forward to this afternoon. I'll get you set up for tonight. So let's all get more money in the old. That would be nice. That would be nice. Like I would love that. Before we go to Ah, Teddy Greenstein from points about sports book. I've been looking up to the TV and the NFL network which is out in front of me. Had their picks for the Bears Vikings game. And to no one's surprise unnecessarily. They all picked the Vikings and then Jon Greenberg from the athletic posted the screen shot of ESPN is pre game show and what they were thinking of the Vikings and the Bears game. There were five people making selections and four of the five picked the Vikings. Oh, so if nine quote so called experts, eight of them Have picked the Minnesota Vikings in the Tribune today. More of a mixed bag, right? Yeah. Teddy, Listen. Uh, yeah. Bread. Biggs taking the Vikings by three. Dan Wieder taking the Vikings by one. Colin Kane. Um, she has a bear's of four point winner, and I think it was pretty well mixed in the Sun times the other day. I think it was 32 on they took the Vikings. I think more so Most people are looking at the Vikings coming away victorious in this one NFL dot com. Greg Rosenthal, who's probably second, only to your co and having a good season, okay against the number And he said this was one of the more difficult games if not the most difficult. Game T make a pick on Because well, teams are six and seven and the Bears started 51. And here they are. Six and seven Vikings were one of five and Figure out a way to get to six and seven, but ultimately he has a two point Viking win 25 23 because, he said, it comes down to Hard to go against the team with the better coach and the better quarterback. So he's going with Mike Zimmer and Kirk Cousins and No, I guess you know, that would be hard to argue this point. Mike Zimmer got re upped in the summer..

"All right. The Bears offense continues to just amaze us with their futility and then like where they were in the third quarter after the run back what they like, What were they minus one in the third quarter, and at one point towards the end of the fourth day of 14 total yards in the second half E mean and and these Vikings team giving up over a total of 400 yards, and they were Like a buck 50 or I mean, it's just I'm telling you again, though, like a doll, and I had this conversation of Vikings defense is not good. I'm do. The only reason I point them out is because I'm envious. Of teams that find themselves in adverse situations for a number of reasons, but make adjustments and find ways to actually still get things done. And that Vikings defense is now giving up what 22 points. 20 points. Whether Bears had 13 points in their last three games. They've been decimated by a number of different things, but they've made adjustments and they made the best out of a bad situation. We don't do that, and it's frustrating. Their lone touchdown is special Teams Touchdown, six Lousy points on offense. Let's talk to Dan Wieder or right now, who joins us on the Corona hotline and will continue to take your phone calls at 332. 3776. Then I tweeted out that I'm still pissed. I'm still emotional about this. Waddle is more frustrated and tired of being tired. What are you right now? As you watch through the lens of a guy who has covered a lot of football. Yeah, I'm in the exhausted frame of mind. It's just wait. I told you guys a couple weeks ago. We never get any sort of twist to the story. And so it's just the same thing playing out. In different forms every single week, and it's just, you know, I listened to Matt this morning. I listened to Eddie Jackson last night, and they're both saying all the right things and taking the right approach to the Into the hole, the hole that they're in. But ultimately this is about avoiding the month long losing streak that puts you in a position to rally your your culture and find the passion and come together as a team. It's just exhausting hearing the same sort of talking points on these promises. The things that we're gonna we're gonna find it. And once we find it well, I mean, no, nothing's being found. Nothing has been found, and we just keep saying the same things over and over. You know what guys? It's a nice commodity. It really is. Players like the coach, and the coach seems to have a firm. No, but I'm saying Dan is it's not that valuable. Like at the end of the day, you're not winning. So it diminishes the value of that. Entirely and I have this conversation with cap in August. I think when you know he was saying, Don't you believe in the culture in the culture, and I told him I would go to Michael's and pick up a box of culture ribbons, and every week after they lost, we could hand out the culture events for the guys who fought to the very end and everyone could feel great. About the culture of it. They got all that does is guarantee that that you don't have this sort of debilitating dysfunction and drama during a disappointing season. It's so great. They're not gonna have that and we're all better off for it to some extent, but it doesn't really do anything. When your goal is to return to the playoffs and do something that this franchise hasn't done in a decade, which is win a playoff game. And right now they went from five and 1 to 5 and five and I think if you look at this objectively with what we have watched over the last seven weeks, It's gonna be a struggle to get date Nate right just to match last year's total, and that when you zoom out and see the big picture is about as depressing as it can get. I was gonna say, like the fact that they're not fist fighting in the locker room every day. It's kind of like the analogy make with my kids or the statement I made. You don't get extra credit for not doing drugs. It's expected, right, right. And you know and great. You're gonna go back into self Scout again and You got extra time to self gotten and you're gonna you're gonna finally uncover what it is. That's holding you back. And then what? Right and you're gonna come out in the last six games. And you're gonna maybe occasionally for 23 points. I mean, I don't know that seems like a stretch. Me right now, based on what I'm watching, And so it's just it's all hollow. And if you're using any sort of critical thinking, you know exactly where this ends up. And so I think that's why we're at this point of exhaustion because it's going to end up at a dead end. And another disappointing season with the people as high up the food chain is there aren't household having to make very significant decisions. I wrote in my column this morning that the only thing that the Bears kid can say that they're in the hunt for is how much appetite is George McCaskey have to be in the hunt for a New general manager, a new starting quarterback, a new head coach, a new team president. Those are serious discussions that are, you know, we're going to have to have as we get into December, and that's pretty sad given given that this team was five and one, not that long ago. I'm glad you brought that up when we're trying to Dan Wieder from the Chicago Tribune because we could get into the news of the day, But let's talk big picture. I was not anticipating to get its fired up as I did in the beginning of the show. But because I just had watched the Theo Epstein press conference and he just to me. It just intertwined. My fan base a mentality of how I love the Cubs and how I love the Bears. And how one time I thought I would never get from the Cubs. What I did get In a world Syriza's, and now the only thing left is that offense and that quarterback that have never gotten from the Bears and I just see the dysfunction at the top, and until the Cubs solved it With the top, and the owner recognized that he needed to get out a new president of baseball operations and do a new way of business. I just continue get frustrated over a guy who sat in that chair for over 20 plus years as the team president, and I don't need him fired. I just need him to move aside. So George can hire better people who will succeed and how realistic is that to believe the George can talk to people who he admires and can say I want to win, but I need someone in my ear. Who's better of picking the guys? To help me win. You know something? I don't know. And I don't know why they've had such a steadfast loyalty to 10 for as long as they have given the results. And when you have the opportunity like I have had now for eight seasons to sort of get partially behind the curtain in hell, asshole, and you just see kind of The way things go, you sort of begin. T just understand a little bit more about how Accepting of mediocrity, certain organizations. Maybe, and that I've told people for a long time now is the thing that's been most eye opening about being on the speed for eight years is that it expands. Apartments all across that building there this acceptance of mediocrity and this unwillingness to challenge yourself to be any league franchise. This is a cutthroat billion dollar industry that you're operating in. And so if you're if you're satisfied with mediocrity and regular level well, you're you're determined to stay there for as long as you want to stay there. There's a lot of people that'll keep you there, right. And so that's what that eye opening to me is just that. That inability to either recognize mediocrity or do something about it when you do recognize that and again it goes across the board here. I remember when they brought on Ernie Course CTO lead. The search is in 2000 and 15. And I had An agent. Call me up who is involved in the coaching in general manager ranks and said that this was essentially a charter franchise of the NFL. Making a public acknowledgment that they don't know much about football right that they had to go outside of their organization. And now other organizations do it. Sure, but it was this sort of sobering admission that they didn't know exactly what they were looking for. They had to bring in any early of course heated, then find them. You know who they wound up with, And you just wind up in these these cycles and these, you know, real spinning, miserable droughts..

"Danny's Herman's, our executive producer, Chris, the for black is at the controls on David Caplan, three one two, three three two, three seven seven six is our phone number. We have our jam packed show. A lot of fun ahead over the next three plus hours tonight starts the NBA finals. We have two games in the books in the Stanley Cup final, and the cubs and the White Sox. Both win baseball games last night. And both games filled with drama. White Sox game, Tim. Anderson gets hit in the head with a change up. They checked the pitcher net. Joost is mad. Anderson respond with a double win the game in the eighth after the socks blue seven one lead and then the cubs find a way to beat the Astros because Kyle Hendricks was a beast and coming up today we're going to talk to the other basically pitcher right now in the city of Chicago is name is Lucas, Jia Lido. He will join us at eleven o'clock on the program. We'll also talk to Jesse as he gets ready to board, a plane to come to go to Louis adjust. You'll join us at nine twenty five. Dan, Wieder from bears OTA's at ten both MAC. Intra Bisky spoke, we'll get into that, and Jeff passan eleven twenty five and once he lands, he was the sideline reporter on the cubs Astros game last night. Finally will qualify. Another force them to play golf next week in our Catholic Comey golf outing, and another qualifier for the bear down in London trip, maybe Hawaii. Doing right. I can't remember a game that I've watched where I was as, as emotional, as was last night watching what transpired in the fourth inning when Albert Amore junior hit that line drive down the left side and struck that little girl in the stands at minute maid to just see the reaction of Elbert and his teammates. It was it was as horrific to watch. And you're just it was just tough. I was really surprised that Elmore continued to play. I don't think he wanted to it was scary. But I think Jeff to the game Joe said I asked him if he wanted to leave the game. And he said, no. But that at bat, I mean you learn could've throwing that ball into the dugout swing. And he was running out of the batter's box, which you completely understand. And then that seen of him embrace. The security guard sobbing and then I thought hat's off the Kyle Schwarzer some idiot cameraman's trying to get a photo or shot of him the great there towards like no blocked. It it was great. But another reason why MLB has got to make it a mandate. We go netting foul pole to foul the happen happen. You don't need to have someone last year at at dodgers stadium. There was a an older. Woman that passed away after being struck by a line drive in hockey. It took the death of a little girl in Columbus Columbus blue jackets game before they put netting behind the net. And now you think about how many times in a game you do the hawks you see a deflected shot up into the netting, and that has a potential, if there's no netting to kill somebody. And there's nothing you can do. I mean you, you did the show tug Glanville last night. And what was Israel? He says he still takes glove to the game. Glenville twelve year eleven year major league outfielder said when I go to a game, I usually get really good seats and I bring my glove. I'm like you bring a glove to the game. He said, yeah. And I'm not convinced I could even make a plan. Some of the rockets get hit down there. He goes, let alone somebody on their phone, a little kid older person male or female doesn't matter, you. There's no way. It's traveling over one hundred miles an hour. Some of these line drives. It was it was really horrific to watch Elbert Amora deal with that. I mean ESPN had the ice oh of Elbert following the ball as and he, he, he knew it was heading and then his reaction. And now we went to his knees and you could see in the next half inning when he went out in the field. Remember there was a double off the left field wall. I think Schwaiger MS played a little bit. And normally I think the center fielder should be over there to back up for the long Karimov, and he was nowhere to be found and on a replay. I you could just tell he was an in the game. And then it was shortly after looking in a stand shortly after where he went up to the security guard to get an update on the little girl. And that's where that embrace. So they came back out of commercial. And that was the shot. We saw. Right and covered his face with his glove because he was sobbing into it. And, you know, these are highly skilled strong men that are taught, you know, shake off bumps and bruises shake off what happens get back lock in do your job. And that guy's human man. He was again, a lot of people had a lot of respect for the emotion that he showed with so January. You saw another leadership quality and Jason Heyward how he came right to Albert and. Was trying to console him. You saw Schwarzer walk up in the dugout and he left his position. Or maybe it was at second base came running over to put around, and then there was a time where Elmore went up the runway. I think it was after he'd been in the field in the bottom of the fourth and you, you saw Rizzo come out and talk to Joe. And I think at that point, there was a question whether or not he was gonna return. And he stayed in there. We're going to hear from Albert coming up in a little bit. Yeah. Absolutely. We'll play some of that in a second. But it was an interesting game once that issue happened because you had all that on everyone's mind till they finally got there was some social media's from a couple of media members in Houston said that they believe the girls, going to be okay. All the Astros released was choose in the hospital now. I think there was an update daddy saw this morning that she's already been released. So really good to hear is sources told the SPN the initial. Report on the girl's condition was positive, I had to try to keep my composure during the book, that's the more by. But in fact, why don't we just played that right now? This is Albert L Maura junior at his locker following the game talking about the incident..

Astros Elbert Amora cubs Kyle Schwarzer Anderson White Sox Jeff passan Elmore Albert Joe NBA baseball Albert Amore David Caplan Albert L Maura dodgers stadium Jesse Columbus Danny

"In fact. His back. Yeah. Very comfortable. I think. Those decisions that we make our or here accused decisions. And it's not just me. It's, you know, it's obviously our horror coordination, and when you bring a guy like Cleveland, and I think the longer you're around him. It's not just the player. It's his work ethic and professionalism, and it's everything is a person and to have your best player. The absolutely what your heart is workers is a great thing to have as a franchise. As the general manager of the bears in the media one final time ahead of the NFL draft which will begin on Thursday. Of course, the bears won't have much action in those first couple of rounds Thursday night and then into the early portion of Friday evening, they won't be picking until round three unless Ryan pace moves up as we discussed yesterday that's possibility because it's kind of been his MO, but he just told you right there. Dan, Wieder with the line of questioning from the Chicago Tribune and Ryan pace told you it will be harder because they don't have a lot of ammunition to move up this year. And there's only so much you can keep. They're only so many years down the road. You wanna keep going right where you're trying to move up. Now that those ones for one because you have to overpay to get one this year. Right. So we'll be just a one twenty twenty one one. It'll be twenty twenty one one in three to be able to move up to a first round pick this year. And if you're not careful you didn't have first round picks for three or four years. It's going to take your up that creek. You don't want the battle of Benchley you end up taking that toll. When you can't replenish your town. Exactly. So I you know, I wouldn't bet Sylviane it as we discussed yesterday. Just because it I wouldn't feel comfortable making that big bet. Because history says he likes to be aggressive, and he does have that mindset that I think he gets from Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis where it's we see an opportunity we're going to go up and get them. We like guy we're going to go up and get them. They do that a lot New Orleans Ryan pace is done on a lot here. So I guess I wouldn't put my hard-earned money on it. I don't know how likely it is. Maybe he moves up slightly or he jumps into the second round moves up a little into the third round. I think all those things around the table jumping into the first round making some sort of a splash for the bears jump into the first round pick selection on on Thursday that price it'll be to price, absolutely. Half the love a guy. I mean, if he's already being picked twenty seven and you fall in love with a guy that's being picked at twenty seven and you want to give up two seconds and some more to jump up. That's the type of gamble. You make he'd better hit you better. When that type of gamble is made and he doesn't hit, but that's a job killer right there. That's what that is better. Get some of your tenure Keller. Well, welcome in on this Tuesday. I'm great. How are you? I wanna thank you for that. Beautiful bottle four roses day. Jason Manetti is gonna join us Merck. What are we got on the space in Bonetti from the White Sox? He's a fan of old school baseball hitting hitting people Jason Panetta's Bill. He's not you should've seen him. Go off on that. Oh last week. Not a happy, camper Burke. Most of us weren't Jason Bonetti is going to join us live in Baltimore at the bottom of the hour to talk White Sox baseball. They pounded the os yesterday. Our buddy Jerry Hairston junior, your he'll talk cubs and dodgers with us at one thirty from Los Angeles tilt tonight Karm dodgers in town after taking what took three or four from the brewers. I think over the believe they they've come to the mid west, and they're making some noise. So we will Lasorda comes. That's good for the good. Can you think Tommy still travels now, you know, what that's the guy? You ought to ask about chat have his at at all. You kidding me? Who's eaten when Casey Carmine with Lasorda? Where together all this time of the store. Ella sorta caveat eighty seven or eight right? I took a picture of him through the year after the cubs won the World Series. They were unveiling the banners out in centerfield. And it was like a two hour. Rain delay the game started way late and like in the fourth thing. I said to my buddy is worth my time with sort in the front row, I think he was sounded sleep when I went up to him. He's ninety one guys. I mean, he took the picture though, sharpest attack harm. I always feel like it when the dodgers come to town. We should play the. Yeah. That's true. No, not that. I mean that's funny, but the rant about LA Fe incur, Nevada. I mean, it's it's in Alzheimer is good of a rant as you're ever. Going to hear Chris will have to do some serious editing work, but it is one of the all-time great rants because not only is he just filthy in his language, but the the criticism in the critique of the two other players involved is just priceless. Tommy on ninety one when we had Dean Smith. Jay, okay. Not today. One of those moments last week with Bob Knight talking about yet. He's Merck saying it sounded like you woke them up from the nappy was out of it. He didn't know what was going to be pushing what I'm guessing eighty right doesn't he he's right there. Yeah. He's not shooting pheasant anymore with Dick Cheney. That's for sure. Yeah. He's getting up there. Getting all Jay's Manetti joins us next. I cubs cubs podcast and I'll do it again during the season. And I got Sylvie multiple times. Then I gotta be honest with you, man. It was a lot of fun. We went, you know, debating stuff and reminisce. It was great. So. Yeah. Bulls. I'm looking forward to it looking forward to it. Three one two three three two three seven seven six will get to Dan Wieder and a little bit. He's down in Chicago. He's not in it Lanta. So well, we'll get to him and get his thoughts on this big game on Sunday. What are you going to the Waddell? Yes. The the Waddell party on Sunday. Have a great time. You will not be I will not be this year for the first time in three years that will not be at the water. Where will you be? I will be out of town with my wife. Okay. So we will watch the game wherever we are going to be all Ola. I left a little Don Julio for you cross the border. You did. Yeah. Just a little nice an extra on. Yay. Hope. Yes. Nice. Thanks for four. Do you? So me ask a interesting question. We were into the ballot. Check versus Brady thing. Let me ask you this one. If I told you you could have the greatest GM in sports, whoever that is or you could have like the cubs as an apple you can have THEO coming here and twenty twelve but you got going to get Kris Bryant or you could have the great manager. You're gonna have Joe, man. But you can only have one of the three which one you take give it to me. One more time by told you in twenty the right before they hired him. So like, I told her of twenty eleven okay, I'm gonna drop the best baseball executive in the game into your lap feel. But that means you're not gonna get Kris Bryant he's gonna get picked number one by Houston. So you're not getting him which one would you take or you can have the manager? You can't have all three. Because of where the cubs were. I would take THEO for sure because he had to blow the entire organization up retool. And so therefore, I n he's done it before. Right. So he's ultimately going to select whoever he thinks is the next Kris Bryant or if Joe Madden. And he's going to go down and meet him in his in his cruiser and talk him to coming to the north side..

We need to figure out if we're going to do this. Because look my on my Twitter handle, right? Follow me. Nice handle. It says, you know, hosting ESPN Chicago Bubba the last thing I might Twitter handle as coffee's for closers only. That's the greatest coffee line in movie history. A lot of people on Twitter saying well Glengarry Glen Ross has to be the best coffee scene. But is that really a coffee scene because the mentioning of coffee, but the same can be said about goodfellas when they're making the coffee to go after they kill stacks. Like does it does this scene half? Do feature info coffee ended in Jack Lemmon is pouring a Cup of coffee when Alec Baldwin barks at him put that coffee down coffee's for closers only. So we like we were dissecting this too much. It's just a Twitter poll. Glengarry Glen Ross on put something up there. Put long sink wrong calmer. Yup. "And the end of the day the bottom bottom line is having fun. Guys wanna do that floss is is a kill philosophy cheap it likeable and learnable. So that's an acronym for not. You know, what I'm talking about Cuban likeable and learnable. So it'll be complex for you simple for us. So we can do just enough to where we just move a couple of jersey numbers around the same pressure. The same coverage the same front for us. But will look totally different to our Ponant. And that'll be that'll be the beauty of it will give these guys a chance to play fast don't wanna in Kuwait one bogged down, and we don't want them out there thinking that's another way that that will be better and will grow. We can eliminate all the gray have great communication from front to back. Everybody on the same page. We're all wrong. All right. And let those guys play let their let their light shine and have fun, and they got we got a bunch of swagger in that room. And I believe in swag. I blame coughing us. I believe in you know, let guys play and not not making them. Robots bears. Have plenty of that in eighteen with club, dub and everything else. And. Yeah. I like the aggressive. Alec. The talk about being aggressive and flying around and playing fast sounds good. I've never heard the the acronym. He bit like law and learnable likeable and learn about. Yeah. Likeable and learn learn about this, you know, the acronym. Well, actually, no, he said kill. And he I think he wanted people to mistake. I think someone along the way has told him that that's not something they write should promote. So he's trying to self edit. He said, that's his acronym. Forty goes don't misunderstand that he goes this is about kill. He said, it's keep it likeable. And learn I'm thinking, where's the law? I gotta have an a skill. I was brought his thing. And the if everybody's wrong. Everybody's right. Yeah. Listen one guy playing the wrong defense ten doing something else. The worst thing you can have in the history of football. I always say if you're all doing if everybody's wrong. Everybody's wrong together. Yeah. Playing the raw gates. It's better. That's better. Yes. That's amazing. It's kind of an oxymoron, you've always said that. Yes. Yes. You could be planning wrong defense. But as long as everybody same Ron. That's okay. You're going to be in good shape. You might get by with it. That's the craziest thing. But you're always said that one guy's wrong. Oh, man. All hell could bring in one guy's wrong. That's problem. And here's the other thing. Defensively. I always say this defensively. Ten guys could be getting their butts kicked the one guy makes great plan the defenses. Everybody's celebrating. Everybody's having a good time. Yeah. Offensively, you know, ten guys doing things correctly. One guy does something wrong. And you get killed, you know. So that's why I think defensively it's much nicer to be a defense football player that lives off. It's player. The offense really has the offense really asked to be a fine tuned fine-tune unit. You don't think there's too much of a terminology thing that'll slow them down. There's plenty of time before the scenes, we'll talk more bears at the bottom of the hour with Dan Wieder joins us from the Pro Bowl three one two three three two three seven seven six you want to chime in. We talked a lot of balls during I cross talk with cap and with Pat, Boyle and. Another look at the losses are good. I mean, that's what this is about right now the way they lose like that's probably a deeper conversation that we should continue to have as the season goes on if they keep losing games like this. If they lose by fifteen twenty every night, they've lost a lot of games like that at home, which is troubling in your excetera earlier. Will you know, what are you looking for you want the losses? But what are you looking for you could almost tolerate it more? If you see him playing like the hawks played last night, the hawks are I in the NBA and pace they play fast. "Try and incorporate that into my routine, and so these are good things for Mitchell Trubisky to learn whether he was the first alternate or maybe Matt Ryan was and didn't want to go. But he's he's there. Right. And Russell was replacing Aaron Rodgers science technically he's starting to come down the list Toronto bits route. So if you you they selected three and Gough and Rodgers out so Wilson would be four. If Matt Ryan was ahead of them five. Mitchell would be number six on the list, which is fine. That's fine. So anyway, three one two three three two three seven seven six is our phone number again, Dan Wieder joins us with the latest on our Pro Bowl bears from Orlando coming up next. Do you have any concerns about Chuck Pagano at all becoming the new DC? I mean, I don't I don't I think he's going to be a little more aggressive than Vic Fangio. I talked to Dan dockage. And he said he covers the colts obviously down there in Indy. And he was not the biggest guy in terms of as a coach. And he's a really good, dude. I look back and they were eleven and five back to back years. They can't be that bad. Wins in the NFL back to back seasons is an easy, and he had a medical issue. Kimia while he was there. There was a lot going on with that team. And oh, by the way, Andrew luck was not getting protected at all, correct? They have completely changed things around that offensive line. They invested in it, and it's paying dividends and luck masala last year with the shoulder we didn't know year for a year ago. If Andrew luck was was really going to be able to play again, correct? Obviously he answered that question. And then some yeah. Effectively very effectively three one two three three two three seven seven six akiem Hicks. He looked like he was having so much fun at the Pro Bowl yesterday, a Danny? And I were looking at a little bit of video of him this morning. He's balancing around like this is what I've always wanted. It was just cool to see. Professional athletes who make stupid money, and they're just like little kids. They're just having fun. But like from akiem Hicks perspective like defensive line. What can you really do in the Pro Bowl like you're already? They're already handcuffed. It's almost it's two hand touch already pretty much. So. It's interesting. What I would like to know the mental process that the players in the trenches go through because like is it is it just like seven on seven. You know, is it. Is it like a walk through what where where do you put the intensity level as you get ready to study? Thank you ratchet up. I don't think you've taken tore it all to get ready to play. No, all right. We're going to take a fast time out. And then we're going to Orlando. Do you have a question you'd like to know about this Pro Bowl process with the bears comment on Mitch Trubisky? Three one two three three two three seven seven six bulls. Beaten soundly by land last night by twenty one. I was down in Peoria. I had the Bradley blow out of Illinois state wall. Were they bad last night? You're an ISU redbird fan. You were not happy with your team last night. They got crushed eighty five sixty eight technical foul, and Dan Muller the shoe coach blue that game open at the end of the first half. They made a run and then Bradley put them away. So interesting stuff three one two three three two three seven seven six. We'll be right back. Silly.

"That I hadn't seen in years pass. Yeah. There's confidence saying, yeah, I'm trying to get caught. I want you to hear I want everyone to hear. About the importance of even if you didn't get voted in even if you are an alternate what you can get out of being in that setting around a bunch of different guys. And we'll get to that. Because I gotta think even though again, I know he's an alternate. I know he wasn't ahead of Aaron Rodgers and ahead of whoever. Jared Goff drops out because he's in the Super Bowl Mitch gets to go, but his resume when he goes home. I was in the Pro Bowl pretty freidan cool. Yeah. And I think it just it adds to his resume it. It'll give him more experienced to handle the he's already he's already answering. The Cody parkey question, which is something that would have probably been held off until oh TA's. So he's already got that in the rear view mirror. Look, I think anytime you get an opportunity to be around the best to pick their brains to to talk about what you experience. Whether it's a Dak Prescott that he'll see in Orlando. Russell Wilson the things that you can gather from peers in your profession. I think is invaluable. Oh, you do that. Yeah. Yeah. So cool to see that. We'll see if he goes out and plays in just the big thing. The big takeaway from this weekend. We everyone stayed healthy. Well, yes, that's a good point. We'll talk to Dan Wieder coming up at nine thirty. I wanna ask because they've got those skills competitions. And remember, oh, I don't know how many years ago was but member there was the horrific the leg injury Edwards right back played out of Georgia. I believe and they were playing a flag football game on the beaten so severely Torp knee. I think he only had like. Very few carries the rest of his career. So these things that they're doing like, I know yesterday. Akiem Hicks took part in the forty yard splash. Does that's. Taxing does. But I wanna find out from Dan Wieder, exactly like what is the gridiron gauntlet? Is it, you know, is there are they ever putting themselves in harm's risk or. That no defensive lineman is going to be diving at a quarterback's legs. These guys are not that stupid. Max is in Valparaiso. Hey, max, welcome to the show. Can't love the. Well. No question. We've had a good year. And I just didn't know if you think that Matt Ryan for Trubisky being an alternate. I'll I'll hang up your look Matt Ryan's numbers are better than Mitchell Trubisky. So there's no question about that. None. But Matt Ryan has also been to the Pro Bowl. So should should Matt Ryan have gotten in there ahead of Mitch? Probably if you want to just go by numbers, I'm just being honest. I'm thrilled for Mitchell Trubisky and for the bears that they're able to get this. But if you want to just go by pure numbers, I know the bears were twelve and four and the falcons didn't make the playoffs. But Matt Ryan's numbers were eye-popping this year. They were really really good. And I would think if Atlantic gets better health they got banged up big time in terms of injuries. They get better health. They could be a team that bounces back in twenty nineteen book, the NFC south's always a wildcard it seems to be much like the NFC eastwards. Nobody stays on top for very long. You know, you'll see New Orleans you'll see Carolina you'll see Atlanta take a shot and just like in the east NFC east. It seemed to change quite a bit. Yeah. Look, they haven't they haven't been the same. In Atlanta for a while since since the through the meltdown in the Super Bowl. I want you to hear this cut. This is Dan Lobski yesterday on the show. We asked him about the importance of Mitch just being in the Pro Bowl environment, absolutely fantastic thing because you know, what? What? I have my father used to.

Everybody wanted to know how did I handle say it was very very briefly. I I don't believe really too much and getting into those mind games with kickers. Or are you gonna sit there and not say anything, I think I was in the middle. You know, I tried to support him as much as I could give them confidence when he was going through to lows and then when he got special teams player of the week to following week. Not pump them up too much. Just tell them. Good job is it's what we expect. So throughout the year. It wasn't like we talked every day or everywhere. You know, when I needed to if I felt like I needed to. I'd say some Tillman, and it took us to the very end in our exit interview. Where Cody is what you see what he was. So what was the one free agent signing that you probably feel strongest demand Nagy didn't have a huge impact on that one. Because it didn't have to do with offense. Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree. But I think a lot of the guys they added in free agency Ryan and Matt sat down and kind of came to a mutual agreement that this is what's best for this offense. I still don't know why they decided to give a kicker nine million dollars guaranteed. Yeah. We we question that at the time one more, then we'll get to Dan Wieder because the news of the day when we left on Friday with Chuck Pagano. "Carbon and you're on ESPN one thousand differences. I think that they've got a quarterback in place that they want to build around believe was gonna be special in Jacksonville didn't have that. Despite the fact that it thought it might have. And so as long as you got a quarterback in place like that somebody that you think make plays and you've got that. I think you're gonna have a chance to repeat that it doesn't mean you will nothing is promised there were short. But it's a situation where I think that they have a chance to be competitive for years to come now again, it's a it's a situation where? Nothing is promised in this league. So he can play. Yes. I mean, that's that's awesome. I mean there there you have maybe one of the most instinctive playmakers in the NFL, which is actually what you need in centerfield, especially against the offense. That has such RPO capability you need guys were smart guys. We can play with great is going up against the team that has run RPO's heavily bald repetoire what they can go to and a quarterback. He's gonna watch it down the field. A few times you gonna take some shots. A big man to alshon we need that centerfield. It's a great. It's a great match up. And I'm telling you, it's it's a great matchup for their front. Seven seven against it gets Phillies a lot, and I like their ability to make Philly one dimensional because the one thing I know that they worry about the fact that they don't have a consistent. They don't have a running game. They can count on Billy literally have to outplay call you and half out scheme. You it really does call on Doug to be on it point four seven in the context of a football game and make many many many more good calls and bad 'cause they're not better than other teams player for play against Chicago. Darn for aren't going to be better than them player for player. So this is gonna be a chess match up a magnet at the highest degree between Doug and big Fangio. And then on the other side. Like, I said, I'm Mitch. Be prepared brother prepared for some heat and make a because I'm in. I'm Jim Schwartz. I'm coming. I'm bringing it. And I'm putting it on you. So. I'm amped up, man. Yeah. Houston on Friday. Good to go. See the playoff game when it'd be the wildcard game Saturday, we get to fly back. And then this is gonna be it's gonna be wild lose a couple of things. First of all, I think we've learned over the course of this year. I don't care who you are. You're the Vikings are are your the Rams if you come to town, and you're not ready to go offensively. Your your your T's crossed your eyes are dotted and most importantly, your chinstrap, isn't buckled. This defense will take your football manhood away from you. I don't get the sense that that's the case with the eagles. Maybe it's because they're you know, how the, you know, their makeup is maybe it's because of their Super Bowl you win last year. And and who they are a is that accurate and b how much of that experience gives Doug Peterson maybe a potential edge over Matt. Because Matt hasn't been there. Sure, the great how about you know, in football parlance. Right. You gonna pump eagles. Exactly, there's no there's no there's none of that. There's no punks on that team. They're not gonna come out there. And all of a sudden the crowds loud the cold Soldier Field. And in the bears are out there. They're not all of a sudden, they go home though, you know. No. That's not what's gonna happen. They they have grown men on that team who are who have tasted championships or championship. So they'll be ready to vote now whether or not you can go ahead and overtime beat them down and Szekely win the game. That's another issue. I mean, it's been proven you could do that to them, but they will play. They will fight to the death and Doug is very composed. Very even keel one of the cool, calm collected personalities in the NFL. He doesn't get rattled. And he will be in. You'll be on it. He will give it his best that he will pull out every stop people play every percentage in order to give get his team to come out on top as far as Matt concerned as far as the bears are concerned. You know, you, you know, how you know. Matt sounds when when you're talking to him and how he comes off, you know, his his genius in his consistency in his steadiness. And he understands he's not a guy who's gonna get too amped up either. He's not a guy who's gonna let the moment gets too. Big. You hope that he's able to make just great calls and stay within himself and not try to get to cute like sometimes coordinators, do and do something that would hurt his football team in put his football people too bad position. Just because he wants to show, Doug. You know? I I got one better call you. I got one more call I can make the make. And I don't think he'll do that. I really don't. It's always it's always interesting. You I worked in Philly, and I was on the headset. And as a as an advance scout we to be on the headset, we communicated with the offense the coaches, tell them what personnel coming into the game with the deepest coaches to let them know what personnel was coming into the game. So they can make calls that was the cool thing about being exposed there. So I sat in the box. I saw how Doug Peterson what I know how Matt Nagy as I know how these guys are. And you can get amped up to the point where you know, that my I was making any hall in my heart was racing a thousand miles an hour at the beginning of the game. Because you know, the beginning of a game is so fast. Everything's kristen. So things moved twice as fast and people are changing. Personnel. Just to try and take advantage of the other person's nervous this early in the game and play. Services. These two guys are as coolest can be. They really are. I think after those I fifteen ten fifteen twenty plays settling it's gonna be a tremendous tremendous test match that I don't think experience is going to have anything to do with. Okay. So I apologize for being a jerk ahead of time. But not to jeopardize your friendship with either. Who's a better play caller and schemer is it. I'm not doing it. Okay. Will I will tell you that. I will tell you. How are they different? How they better I saved his both interesting, man. I know. I would say now Doug is probably a little more risky willing to take risk. I mean, he's earned it really at this point. Right. He's not really he's not afraid. They one of the most aggressive analytics driven decision making teams in the NFL. So that was gonna take some risks as far as situationally. He's gonna take some risks. Matt. Has. Better speed better explosive playmaking and Billy at is disposal. He may be the one who's a little bit more. Pull out something pretty tricky. Right. He may try he tried to get quote, unquote, cute. So you would I let let let me just put it that way. Yeah. Who's the better? And they both know who I'm gonna pick both know that they both know who pick as a matter of fact would tell you he liked when I picked against them because I picked against them all last year I picked against the Super Bowl and he's like keep doing it. Yeah. Please keep picking against the easy. Al is just to say Andy rates better than all of them. Right. Well, I'll tell you. What was interesting though exam. Yeah. These these are both counted, obviously, India's to human as though any a great listener is what he is. He's a great collector of information and take a little bit here. Taking one of the key really is a great collector of information and. Relies a lot on his assistance to really help him with that. And he has great timing too. Great timing as far as when the pool what? And I it's cool that for me personally, remember that I used to sit in a meeting with every Monday night about seven o'clock six thirty seven o'clock until and I remember seeing Andy sit in the back of the room he'd have his habit and have the folder that put together. I never seen. Doug. I believe he used to sit right to my right? Matt Houston, sits in my left along with David Kelly, mardi more one Casteel. To look at me. And they'd be like Andy would be like go ahead. And I used to have to give a report on the on opposition. And they would take you know, four five. That's all anyone say, okay, go sit there and look over the top of the things he writing furiously and all the coaches would look at me and look down and right. And they look at me, I'm telling you what there's a lot of brain power involved with those three guys. They're all right where they deserve to be. And I it's going to be cool for me to watch him to very very cool story just to listen to it. I wanna get to some some NFL matters. But I the first one involves the bears because they're gonna be teams coming to town. If the bears are still alive to talk to Vic Fangio, we know this. We know that they're going to interview him. How likely easy going to get a job as a head coach, and what is Adam gays doesn't get another head coaching job could the pairing Vic Fangio in Adam gays who worked together in the past intrigued team more. Yeah. I think the interesting thing was Vic is one that people are willing to put aside, you know, what their preconceived notions are of what? Potentially successful. Head coaches is supposed to look like that. He has just as good of a chance of landing jobs anyone and by that. I mean does he have to be in his thirties and forties and got to be offense oriented, and has does he have to have come from the tree that has that is absolutely proven rock-solid that they can you know, that they can be top five office. And maybe the coaches want to see. But what if you're able to look at this, very organically, objectively and understand that and get a feel for what's is as a leader as a teacher, not just players in other, but of coaches themselves, and I think most importantly for him. And this is why I say, I kind kinda like I I started to wonder about this when I put my general managers had on when you're talking about hiring the coach who as a defensive back. Here's the higher opposite coordinator that will score points. And all owners are very intrigued and very demanding. We want production on offense. So if you're gonna hire opposite coordinator, the one thing you have to I mean, the deepest coach when he hires offense coordinator, one of the things you have to worry about as an owner and general manager is if we hire a great, no offense coordinator, the likelihood is he's gonna be poached from me pretty so if I'm hiring the right guy, and then you start over again and find another guy or US have a quarterback coach with party control guy, who's using just keep moving up the ranks or running back to wherever it is. You you always gonna maybe be on that carousel..
