". This is the Bloomberg, money minute fast food restaurants serve more customers and make more money when they get people in and out fast. Pandemic changes to our purchasing and dining habits have taken that to another level. Obviously when COVID first hit and the lockdowns, we did have some impact to our business, but we were even able to navigate that by shifting the business to off premise. What Yum Brands, CEO David Gibbs means by that is more online ordering, more takeout and more delivery. Yum, the company behind Taco Bell and KFC has also discovered it's actually a better business model in terms of the economics for our franchise partners. Even before COVID, most fast food orders were to go, the industry is now leading into that with concepts including drive-through express lanes and take out and drive-through only restaurants. Last year on Taco Bell franchise opened a two story drive-through in the Minneapolis area with a kitchen above that uses an elevator system to send orders to four drive-through lanes below. "Campaign 2024 on WTO South Carolina Republican senator Tim Scott is jumping into the 2024 race for The White House. It comes on the heels of news that Florida governor Ron DeSantis is expected to officially throw his hat in the ring next week, and then there's Virginia Republican governor Glenn youngkin. He said he won't be on the presidential campaign trail this year, but now he's out with what looks very much like a campaign oriented video. This was very much a Haji graphic look at young king himself. It's the sort of thing that someone wants to be a presidential candidate puts out. And I think that too is a reflection not only of this broad hope that something happens to Trump, but also of the fact that desantis hasn't locked up the anti Trump vote. If desantis comes out of the gates next week, gets only a little bump, doesn't gain a lot of ground against Trump, there's going to be a lot of people who really don't want to see Donald Trump win. We're going to be looking for someone else who might be the savior who might be the person to give challenge Trump. And it seems very fair to me to say the young and things maybe he can be that guy. That's Washington Post national columnist Philip bump, who joined us earlier today on WTO. Starting next week, a Sean Benedict will step in as D.C.'s interim police chief. But while he's very much getting involved now, it turns out he doesn't want that job forever. And that's a personal decision that I'm making. I think I'm better suited to support the department. Executive assistant chief Benedict, leaving mayor muriel Bowser to continue her search for the department's next leader. A role she says, she wants to fill as soon as possible. I have had the opportunity to do my first review of interested folks and so I expect that we will start talking to people soon. Chief Conte's last day in the office is next Wednesday, which is when Benedict will step in. It's a seamless transition. You know this Hey, let's start the show. It is the Tuesday June 8th edition of Lori and Julia. We're going to do it live on the FM band 17.1, but we're also out there. On a streaming app called my talk gap, And we're also at my talk 171 dot com. So, however you choosing to join us today. Thank you. Let's do a great show for you starting right now. All right, Rocco. We're on. Let's do it. Although we have to start our show with something sad, so so Long time. My tack listeners are probably more familiar with the name Michael Patrick Michael Matthew Farrell than other people are. We always like Michael, Michael Patrick or Matthew Michael Farrell? Uh huh. And, but he was the quote. He was the musical director of alive and kicking. He choreographed shows that Chanhassen forever choreographed Are the Broadway Are Broadway Project Down and Dirty, the musical and Rock star. The myth. The method. I remember most wonderful man and he has passed away at the young age of 61. I mean, remember when we first met him? We were just looking at some videos. Rocco from, um, project down and dirty the music. And that was seven years ago. And Lori and I, You know people here and like you have some theater background clean and Bradley On Donnie Love at the time. It was Marley. Um, Tam. I mean, different group of people. But there was some talent and then there were there was us and, um, he, you know, we did this dance number to open up that musical and Lori and I are like, no, thank you. We can't do this that we're not dancers. We're not singers. We can't do anything in the way he just His positive energy and he didn't even know us was just telling us. Of course you can. You've got this. You're amazing. You're perfect and his generosity of spirit and just would brighten up a room that you were ever in. And then he proceeded to just be part of the my talk family. Right? And people are just devastated with his passing. Um Because it makes me so sad. He was just pure pure joy that Rohan Preston did a great, um, story on him today that was in the search Tribune and, um, talked to a lot of Different people. You know Michael Brindisi out at the Chanhassen because he was a choreographer out there for 10 years. Peter Rosten from theater latitude Aha! And he just was a wonderful man and I feel like we Had him in the studio, like in February of last year before everything went down for an alive and kicking show that was coming up in the seniors choir that goes out into the community and just Raxit and he's he. He just was everything. I really can't believe that such an infectious, joyous, full of life man is gone from our lives. It's very, very Heartbreaking. So many people in the theater community in the acting world in the dance world are just so devastated because actually Laurie, remember, when we first met him. We went out to do an event. Just meet him first. This alive and kicking. You're going to do something with them. So the fundraising Yes. And so we went to the church where he was holding the rehearsals. And we're like, Wow. He had such a cute body and just a dancer, and he was just so motivated and exciting and just Approachable and Amazing. And I know Dan Simon here in his family are really sad because he was a part of their family and just Everyone's hearts are breaking over. This one really is sad. It makes me I sent Donnie and No, because I wasn't trophy star the paper and up, you know, with this morning, DJ Shell of he's getting his morning paper. Exactly If Dr Don Uh huh, and he was said No, but he was So devastated. He's like he made chorus girls out of you, too. And I didn't think anyone could do that. Well, 100%, you know, and and he touched so many people, and it was just that positive attitude that it didn't matter. You've got this. Yes. You've got this here. He's just incredible, bright, shiny light. So if people want to, you know the alive and kicking staff, is it They are assigned me about this earlier. You know he's working with these seniors. And then the young guy dies, you know, and just how that's out of order and out of sync and everyone is just devastated, so alive and kicking. They're going to go out and do some summer performances. But they're always looking for donations and on their website. Alive and kicking mn dot org. You can also donate Um, to help Michael's family out during this difficult time. And, um, donating the memory. Passer of cancer. Yes. Yeah. I mean, I just I can't When you send me a note. Oh, I just was like there's no way that guy is less than we saw him. He was kicking are bad. Come on, ladies. Move it. I mean, he were here. He just seemed like the kind of guy who was going to, you know, kick and twirl and dance. So he was like 96 with his with his words of kindness. His generosity has moved his choreography, so I know that there's a really lovely like you said Laurie. Um Obituary. Um in the Star Tribune today, If you want to read it to Michael Matthew Pharaoh that we called Michael Patrick King. We call the Matthew Michael Farrell. Right. We call them, John. You know, we call them every other silly name, but his own. And, um, we just want to share with everybody. So you can honor them, too. And Maybe make a donation in his name and alive and kicking. I mean, they've been around for 10 years and yeah, he's just you know, the senior rack ensemble. He gave it that extra is used. And was so encouraging with the people there. And I just remember that first night when he came in for project down and dirty. We were like in the lyric building in that, like big, long floor and he'd like, showed us what we were going to do. And I mean, I just wanted to put my head down and cry because what is it, 12? It was? Yes, but he was like he made us feel that we could do it. Even though we're Absolutely terrified. It was then we were going to do our number. You know anything you can do, I can do better. Good Lord. He just made he made so many legs better so big, big loss and enjoying out to everyone and a lot of people know his choreography because he worked on so many shows and here for so long, and I Loved that ruin. Had the detail in his story that when he left high school he moved was to be with his dad while he was out there who danced on American bands. I know that makes me happy, Hmm. So and his mom was a rocket and the kids were tapping by two or three years old and I feel very bad for I mean, I think about how much we adored him, and I just think of his family and all people work closely with alive and kicking. People just are probably just reeling from the loss of their They're they're just he was elfin. The leader. He was amazing, very, you know, because he was so light and limber and he could twirl and dance and he could make you feel you could twirl and dance and sing. He's really going to be missed. Really? And truly, Jules. It's hard not to cry. I know it. So this is so. But if people you know again a great way to honor and would be making a donation in his honor at alive and kicking. Thank you. So, um We will miss him..

"The dvd would be enough the dvd and the key but then you have like a baby bass with like the sobriety valkyries in there and it's like okay. This seems like it's a bit my perfectly timing stuff to make sure people are where they at where they need to be kinda shit but the The the thing is i go and ask you. Do you think he actually assaults robin while. She's sleeping well. That's the big question. Right i mean like that's the big question and i'm not even going to like sugar cod. I've been thinking about this fee. Is i'll nice like like like twenty twenty eight. He comes down to watch anything it is. I leave the theater. And i immediately started thinking about it. Because that's what edgerton wants you to think when you leave the cinema right like all right the these. Now the audience is going to be pondering that for the next fucking decade and tripoli for weill i went back and forth with it i wanted to think that yes he did because i wanted to believe that god i was this really bad guy who was hell bent on revenge. Because that's that's harvey to me like you know like that's the if you sit down and watch a horror movie. You want the antagonists to be as antagonistic as possible right. You don't want them to be redemptive that it. Yeah yeah Yeah you don't want them to be in our. maybe but then i'm dislike. Hold on there. Like if he is if his intention is to give robin the gift right like what the gift of knowledge. The gift of realizing that simon is the president. He actually is Then him raping her khanna goes against that kinda like right kind of like fades more into what something that simon would dir instead of a victim would do Like i get that ulcer because you can also interpret the gift as being child right. I mean like that's right again because she's lost on able to have that would sleiman right And that. That's one thing i thought. Is it kind of like a you. Know you're like in the departed. She's like a year for mark for me. Talking to matt damon. And she's like you know what happens to a lot of guys all indications being retitled dysfunction or something like that so as i that would be one thing if it were like something wrong with simon you know if he had like naree re throw like hank hill from king of the hill. If it was something like that out right. Yeah something but the gift is man it. It just goes against everything. Gordo is creating another victim by getting his revenge. And i just don't see him doing that i just don't see him being the one to sexually yet to force this woman to have a kid. You know that that's not with her husband. Or whatever or for the is on. I was just gonna say The goater is intentionally trying to make you believe throughout the movie and throughout his interactions with simon. And i'll give forgetting name. Robin robin go. "San Francisco Chronicle with a with a separate story as well. With the teenage suspect in killing of 84 year old San Francisco Man taken into custody right but pay no attention this because this is not going to be on CNN. It's not going to be in the Washington Post. And it does have a story, however. Rise in attacks on elderly Asian Americans in Bay Area prompts New Special Response unit This is obviously old lefties and Democrats and they've created this culture of hate. And yet Vienna several unprovoked attacks on elderly Asian Americans, including at least three in the Bay Area, captured in disturbing videos in recent days have raised concerns about anti Asian bias. Listen to this related to the covert 19 pandemic. That's what you call escaped gut. This is this is CNN and it couldn't be more ridiculous. Eric Levinson and Stephanie Becker and Dan Simon at CNN. Typing this up on behalf of the Democrat Party. Had a news conference in Oakland's Chinatown On Monday, Alameda County Sheriff Nancy Attorney the district attorney, rather nasty, O'Malley announced the Special response unit focused on crimes against Asians and particularly older Asians. Because this has become an epidemic and they're out here. There's San Francisco vish to rot. A pot in county 84 year old from Thailand died after he was abruptly attacked abruptly is a stupid word to use there. While out on a morning walk in San Francisco and 19 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and elder abuse in the case Now this is not because of the pandemic. But CNN goes on us. That's not what it's about, although if it is maybe it's time everybody went back to school, You gang of clowns. But they're saying And this was the claim that it's because some people have labeled the pandemic Chinese wink wink, and that's why African American teenagers in Oakland, her attacking 90 year old Chinese people, you see because wink wink because Donald Trump C called it the Chinese virus. When everybody knows it's called the Wuhan Red Death on day. Also, Democrats go calling it the South Africa strain and the the This strain that Britain's train and this trend that that's all fine. Ebola's fine. Never mind any of that, right? So these people are arrived. Well, what is it out of their minds? I think out of their minds. And then there's a great story today in the New York Post. Which was blocked by Twitter for weeks, waiting up and Facebook leading up to the election. Because of all the true stories about the corruption of the Biden family, these black lives didn't seem to matter in 2020 is the headline. And Rob Aurora RAV Aurora, wrote the story in the New York Post. In 2020, Every major institution of United States, including Social media platform, sports League sports leagues, universities, Hollywood and major corporations pledged their allegiance to black lives matter. Protesters spanned the country, outraged that the killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police, right says understandable and he goes on and and Cosmo's Center, You know, black lives matter, and it was atrocious. What happened there last year's saw the largest year to year increase in homicides. Ever recorded in U. S history. And it's not because of the Wu Han. It's because the Democrats have created a culture of lawlessness and violence and mob violence and anti police mentality. And so the homicide rate in 34 cities was 30% higher in 2020 that it was in 2019. Uh, and victims of these homicides are disproportionately African American, At least 8600 black lives were lost a homicide in 2020. On the increase of more than 1000. Compared to 2019. Now at the same time, I can tell you after pop my head that 14 African Americans were killed by the police last year. 2020 14. While unarmed. That is well not engaged in a death battle with the police. 14, and I can also tell you off the top of my head that 17 people were killed by lightning strikes last year just to provide a little context there now with all of this said, and you know the black lives that they lie about everything. Let's go to Brian Ingram, Brian Ingram. Who is a restaurant tour. He has a restaurant owner in Minneapolis ST Paul. He owns three restaurants. He was He's a lefty. And he was wearing a baseball cap today when he was on the Fox News channel that said in diversity. We trust in diversity we trust and he's got all kinds of lefty buzzwords all around his restaurants and stuff, You know. Fine, fine. He's a businessman. And he is American. He gets to employ people. He gets the think crazy stuff if he wants, But he's describing what has happened in Minnesota, where George Boyd was killed by that awful police officer and was being held accountable by the way. But never mind the 8600 homicides, because let's not that doesn't advance the Democrat parties cause or raise money for black lives matter. So here's Brian Ingram owns three restaurants. Minneapolis ST Paul, explaining what's happened there at the state of lawlessness getting robbed. He's been robbed five times in the last What, two months? I think Brian Ingram Just opened a brand new office. We were getting ready to reopen with covert. We have three restaurants here locally. We opened a new office two days after we opened it all of our office computers stolen One of my other restaurants last week had somebody coming in the middle of the afternoon at three o'clock and rob us. We had our safe stolen out just a few nights ago. We've had a customer that just had their car jacked on. Dis is so crazy for me is a restaurant owner. I'm telling you about bad things. Happening in my restaurant. That's not good for business that scares people and we have to figure out how our guests they felt so scared.

"I don't think it is, But what's he going to do? Well, you know, orgy boats. Yeah, we mentioned that. That's sitting here. Is quite well. This is not a boat. Where was this? This was just outside of Paris. He owns a ton of houses. I think he owns one in Paris. So I don't know. The party, which featured booze, sound systems and even light installations. Wow! Got kicking around 9 P.m.. Three hours after Francis curfew, France still has a 6 p.m. curfew. Yeah. Responding. Officers say that they found 81 people participating in the Event. And we're able to do and issued each of them a curfew violation but also were able to figure out the three who the three organizer's were Who claimed they did not know that that was breaking. Protocol. I mean, I haven't seen what their laws are surrounding this if it doesn't Means probably not illegal in France to be inside the house and have sex right? So let's it puts a number on it. I don't know, man. See you take that one to court. The judge Judy see what she thinks. All right. So yeah, That's the thing. They're, um so anyway, I just Said. Several people sent me this story. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that. Because I'm not full. I guess Maybe people don't like the new name. They think it's dumb. But I also understand why the baseball team was renaming themselves because they were named the Burlington Royals. And that was because they had a An agreement with Major league and specifically the Kansas City Royals. So they've ended the team's affiliation. The Kansas City Royals, so the baseball team in Burlington needed a new name. So what is the new name? They went with the Burlington sock puppets. But why? Why? Why the sock puppets? Well, first of all, what do you think? Considering that there's there's minor league teams called the trash pandas. I mean, there's what did I down in? Savannah, Savannah's bananas, Savannah Bananas. What? It's great. Yeah. What evidence? There is finally baseball team. I don't expect much as far as the naming goes. So if they want to do something weird, whatever. Look, some names their stupid I'll give you example One team I know of that literally named their team after the thing you least want to find in your mailbox. Bills. Who would do that? Right? That's dumb. So Savannah bananas versus the things that haunt you financially in your mailbox. The bills. Not taking the bait. No, okay. That's right. I'm hearing they're named after something else. Some guy named Bill. And another guy named Bill, So that's two of them. That's Bill's okay. All right. So anyway, Um, let's see. What are some of the other names here. Richmond flying squirrels. You got a bunch? Yeah. Rocket city trash pandas. That's That's down in a sweat. Huntsville. I think that's what Huntsville Alabama is The rocket city trash pandas. So it makes sense. So if you're gonna go with Burlington Sock puppets Okay? The team colors will be red, white and blue with logos featuring throwback athletic socks. Sure. Try to figure out if there's somewhere in here. How did they come up with it? First game of the season. June 5th Berlin's an athletic stadium hurt doctor. All right, so well. Here's the quote from Dan Simon of Studio Simon, who came up with the organization's new identity. Pain, a midge to the rich textile tradition of the local area. Okay, well, that's the thing. As we explore all possible identities for the team and engaged locally. With so many different people. The stories and responses revolved around the uniqueness. Of what makes Burlington so special, and ultimately it's the people. Said Rank your owner and president of cloth don't know if I'm pronouncing that right. The people here in Burlington, both with those new to the area, and those who have been here for so long have this desire to be great. It is a community that works well together and his transition from industry to industry over the past 100 years. All right, so somebody e. I guess we have one of you has got a beef with this wants to explain why I just think it's funny. No. People are sending me all the different pine early teams from where they used to live. Biscuits way there's team called the Biscuits. It's not about the team name you know, with with a good minor league baseball team and entertaining a minor league baseball team. Sure it's kind of about the branding. But you know that when you get into the popular ones at the end of the day, it's that they Put in, you know, they put on a good show. They do a lot of community events. Obviously, um, you know, you go to the game. It's rather inexpensive thing to do. But you're still gonna go watch. You know a lot of times you go watch Major league baseball players, and some of these That a rehab in or just, you know, are needing to figure out how to get there, Swing back or whatever it may be. So I love going to minor league games. And obviously we are, you know, we got A ton a ton of minor league teams all across the board to try it in the triangle where we broadcast And even out on the you know the furthest reaches of some communities and across North Carolina. From Mudcats Toe bulls to grass are Toe grasshoppers, Um Try to think. They They had a minor league team up in Well, that track that Astros thing that I got Ross in there that is a trash can with a grouch in it. That basically is mocking the Houston Astros. Liar. Yeah. I mean, it's great. That was from ST Paul Saints, which is my leave. My buddy actually works there up in ST Paul, Minnesota. They really were doing those took only took like 12 months to get the damn thing. We got it, and now it's in the toy collection in in Ross's studio there, so Awesome. What is this? All right, so now I'm allowed to make fun of the bill's not you. Boston, Paul. All right. You know what? Boston Paul. Good for you. I have a story my stack just for you. Sending me email..

Connecting in isolation: Indigenous people create, find and share community online

"Good afternoon I just wanted to show everybody what I had for sale tournament. Some quick cash. I have tons of these hoops through the loops. Dangles anything that's like Brick stitch dangles is thirty. Five dollars for me. Anyway come on my staff level. This is for those of you. That can't get out and smart yourselves. He's allow sacred smoke. Sage runway all negative feelings negative energy Tyler Nizhny late and I'm GONNA be dancing with today are affected by Kevin. May this stent from the protected by stay safe in the hope? That was a little bit from the Social Distance Powell. Facebook group page which was created to bring together people who would normally be hitting the PAO trail pretty soon but earlier this month. North America's largest power. The gathering of nations in Albuquerque made the difficult decision to cancel. The event powwow season is a community stable for first nation people. It's where different nations meet and also where indigenous vendors make a large chunk of their annual income. Dan Simon's the founder of womp somewhere usually heads out on the road to sell his jewelry and Art Ed powwows but because events are being canceled he decided to launch a digital Powell which he's calling the social distance Powell. He joins me from Montana. Hello Hello recently. Gathering of nations cancelled their annual general gathering. As I mentioned as a Vendor Palau's are where you sell your jewelry and art. So how did it make you feel to find out? The POWWOW was cancelled so for me. Personally have had different experiences with this. This is all felt like a dream. Hopefully I think I'm waking up from soon because Kind of amazing that this is all of our reality right now. Not just one person who is experiencing this. Everyone is around the world you know and a lot of vendors. I don't want to speak for myself. Many vendors rely on POW income for a living just like myself just in two months of the spring. A lot of vendors lost between TEN THOUSAND AND THIRTY TO FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. Tennis became general bracket there that income that we're losing and I was really depressed about this because I try to provide for my family. And this is a damper on me. You know myself and I know it's heard a lot of other vendors and there's not really a platform for all of us to sell their wares and not just vendors but no singers that are affected by this dancers that are affected by. This theory was not really a platform to share our voice. So I'm blown away and that's taking off. And it's pretty amazing supporting love all the support and love outweighs anything that's negative absolutely so vendors like you. How much can people make on the Palo trail? Typically I don't want to speak for myself but Most vendors bracket would be anywhere from twenty five thirty thousand up to one hundred two hundred fifty thousand. It just depends on what you're selling. And so how? Do people participate in the social distancing power? So we are on a group page on facebook right now again. This is just a week old so things are transforming as I'm talking. We're trying to focus on live feeds. There's a lot of people that are sending pictures in you know. We all are kind of used to Facebook and getting those likes and comments but for us in the group. This isn't what it's about it's not about the likes and comments it's about people having the platform in all being heard and One thing I've learned to withdrew pages on facebook. There's with people trapped in their houses. Right now is a lot of negativity and this is a lot of negativity. So it's coming out at us in. I know people don't mean to direct it at us. It's just what happens with humans. That's what we do a lot of time. We attacked ourselves now. This is the time to kind of sit back and reflect on. How did we end up in this space that we're in right now so Dan? How does the FACEBOOK group work exactly? Okay so anyone. That's on facebook Join the group There's about a reaching about seventy thousand people on there right now this past weekend. We had her first Powell online. It was kind of a test. No-one some you're on there I mean all the everything's up there on the group it's been really positive in. I hope it continues in a positive way. In on dangle that I have helped so many people there are so many people stuck in their homes and this has been an outlet for them to not feel like they're in that space to connect with others and all the people at is brought together has been kinda magical. I wanted this to have the platform where we area this week were featuring storytelling so there are some people sending in videos just upon their stories their traditions you know from their own tribes so you had said earlier that you've received a lot of love and support but also criticism. What kinds of love and support? Have you received from community? And how is the turnout been? Read you a one that I just sent in my other founders today on this motion to tribal enbrel human name but he says thank you Sam. My mom is able to get that medicine from your page. She's an eighty four year old elder and she loves what you've created so getting those messages. I like. I said it's definitely outweigh the negative things we've received on this. So is this something that you're planning to continue this is in its infancy so This is a platform. Want to keep in create. We're kind of still deciding what route to take. This is definitely the world right now. We don't know what's going to happen with this virus. This is definitely going to continue as long as it's virus continues and then from there We're GONNA see what happens. Know as one of my elders. I'm from the peak while Driving Connecticut myself so one of my elders tall oak. Just WanNa give him a shout-out He always told me. We can't plan for tomorrow. You never know what to expect for tomorrow so I can't plan just kind of do a creator guides me to do so. During the pandemic indigenous people are gathering together and getting creative of how they do it over the Internet. Is this something that you've been seeing a lot of in the United States well after this platform launched? I've been seeing people all over the world a lot of Canadians. Well in the states So it's been quite the outpour I mean just in an hour. We get a hundred posts people wanting to post you know if you look online anything you'll see a social distance. Pow is now a movement in. I didn't expect us to become a movement. I've had other groups online. This is the first one that went viral. It's just again all kinds of crazy. Well certainly speaks to a need right as indigenous people when we have to gather and be loving with each other Well thank you so much for your time today. Dan Welcome is pleasure to be here and I hope it continues in a positive way. That was the point of all this suggested. Kinda spread. Light love and positivity with everything. That's going on.

Travel ban keeping mother from dying 2-year-old son in California

"Old son. The boy is suffering from brain disease that has left him on life support. His father is a US citizen and by his side at a California hospital, but the president's latest travel ban blocks any travel from seven countries and blocks this mother from coming from Yemen to the United States CNN's, Dan Simon is live for us in Sacramento. And Dan, you just spoke with the boy's father. Do they have any hope? Jake. I'm not sure hope is the right word.
