"Janna where forgetting podcasts. Welcome back to the sunday. Sit down podcast now. More of my conversation with dan shea. So did you set out. Dan to be sort of romantic song guys. I mean or did that just happen. So many of your hits are classified that way. The ballads was taught about totally. Is that like a thing you had in your mind like. Maybe that's our lane. That's our way or just happen. I don't think it was a conscious effort to be come. The ballot love song wedding song. Kind of guys that gives. Just those are the songs. We grew up listening to in loving from our favorite artists. And i think you know. We're obviously in love with our wives. Abby and anna and i think whenever we get into songwriting room. That's i bit of inspiration that comes to us and i think Those songs they just sometimes there's fall out of the sky. Song like from the ground up was big wedding song for on her second album. And you know that song we were just hanging out one night. We were recording vocals on another song and the song. That song was like an uptempo feel-good the opposite we dislike got to share stories. And i'd just gotten back to my grandfather's funeral and my grandparents married for sixty five years or telling that story coincidentally shares parents grandparents were buried for over sixty five years as well. We were just talking about that idea of love and you know wanting to be with our wives sixty five years is an incredible time to be with somebody that song just sorta poured out of us and i think on our next album. We were both like. I don't know how we got married yet or are we in the process. I think we going get back with you on that one. I think so. I think we had we had. Yeah yeah yeah and it was. I had this title speechless phone. I didn't know what it was about. Then it was just like we were talking about we. I just got maximum honeymoon or something and you're like man that moment. When we saw our wives was on camera and everything like that moment we saw them in their dress for the first time. You too big deal. You know the photographers like all right. You're gonna look this way and either gonna turn around at the right moment but it really was. That was like stop me tracks. I was speechless. It's like we gotta write that song. We did on that one not to sidetrack but the album was done. Third album self titled album was done and it was like speechless. Just came to us out of the sky like that and it was like got put on the album. Send it to our our team..

"You exist dot com where people could go on there and they can post a picture and like sheriff story of their loved one whoever it was their significant other or their kids or their dog and it was absolutely just heart in mind. Bending i mean it was just a incredible experience for i think for the fans to be able to have an outlet and have a song. They had the words to say and to share someone but for us like looking at those stories of just a mike. We wrote that song just because we really liked it and we wanted to say something to our fans that we are just a phrase that. Dan had written down on his phone he said in his everyday life. Glad you exist and when you bring a title like that up in the room like that. This is not an easy thing to like. Yeah that sounds like the perfect bluebird moment is glad you exist so to have both where it's just it. Truly is my blowing to think that millions and millions of people you know even at this very moment or having that experience With our music and connecting with that in such a personal way have every single person is a every little you know view. You see one view if you look at like man. That's not a lot of us. That's one person but then you look at the family that that affects in the night is just a trickle down effect. And it's just i. It's so insane to me that it's meeting at that house. Party was not only the changing moment for all of us. But now look what we've got to be a part of because music is so much bigger than all of us. I mean it goes out into the world and we're not responsible for what it does after that and it's just every single person has a story in a connection with that and music not just our music. The music in general is literally can change the world and bring a smile space. And i think that's a pretty incredible thing. Hey guys thanks for listening to the sunday. Sit down podcast. Stick around to hear more from dan shea right after the break. Hey it's.

"Sunday. Sit down podcast. My thanks as always clicking and listening along great conversation for today with one of the biggest selling and hottest duos not just in country music but in all of music they are dan and shea as a matter of fact they're one of the biggest selling duos in the history of any music They have i think. Eight billion streams. I'm not making that number up of all their songs. They're big hits. You know if you heard him right away if they don't ring a bell to keila speechless and ten thousand hours collaboration with justin bieber. The first two tequila in speechless were off their crazy smash number one album. Three years ago. Self-titled called dan shea. They blew up to key a here at every bar speechless you hear at every wedding A ballad written about their wives. They are dan smyers a thirty four year old from just outside pittsburgh and shay mooney twenty nine year old from the tiny town of natural dam. Arkansas he says the sign on the edge of town claims population of five hundred. But he's never seen more than one hundred people around town so we get into some of that with them. I'll give you a little bit of background were. They're talking about their new album. Good things which includes ten thousand hours that song with justin bieber which actually came out two years ago but it wasn't on an album. It's a single so it's on this album which they worked on created recorded during the pandemic. You'll hear how they pulled that off. the conditions of this interview. So here's how cool they are. They're rehearsing for their arena tour. Which starts this week actually. They're resuming it. They got three shows in the march of twenty twenty before they got yanked off the road because of the pandemic. they're resuming that this week. They were rehearsing in nashville. I couldn't get down there. Because i'm chained to an anchor desk six days a week in new york city so they flew up for like three hours to new york. City sat for this interview. We did the interview. We thought it would be cool on a rooftop bar in new york city. Well here's the problem it's a it was one hundred and two that day your that right one. Oh two with the heat index and this was a literal greenhouse. The place has a tropical theme so it was just a big glass room so inside that case. I'd be shocked if we're any colder than one. Oh five the crew. The guys towels over their heads and their next people sitting there watching just observing sweating so blessed them the two of them sitting with me. We held it together pretty well. But my gosh and we ended the day with a tequila shot which was delicious and went along with their song tequila but the physical temperature of the tequila was probably in the low nineties..

"It's bob here. Thank you for listening. And subscribing to the bobby cast because of damage as record good things. That's out i thought. We played the origin story of the group. And we did dan yesterday. Next is shay and how he originally started as a solo artist and then he met dan at a house party. He talks about his i deal. With t pain's record label and how they got justin bieber on ten thousand hours one of our favorite episodes from a couple years ago. Here is shay mooney in the origin. Story of dannon here. On the bobby cast i welcome to episode two twenty one shea from dan shea which we partner in its pilot year or so ago and even for him. It was kind of weird coming in alone. Yeah but my whole goal with these is to actually let people hear individuals trouble for me. They won't like are banned after this. I don't think. I think people are gonna like the ban more after this is though do you find and again. It's here's the weird thing for me. Interviewing somebody that i kind of know is that there are things that i know that i would never ask and there are things that i always wanted to ask a personal space. It's never your buddy and you just don't ask what sure tell me about being seven. You know that just never coming up on more somewhere you know so. That's why i'm excited to have you over and also i got the prank. You outside of my house you did. I got here. I was a little bit scared. I'm not gonna like because. I didn't know what your house looked like When did you move. Did you move year and a half year and a half ago. Okay yeah. I knew that i was just gonna ask what your house look like so i pulled up and i was like i was going to see that i was like i wanna be outside like someone randoms house and i didn't want to like not park so i get out and i ran the doorbell and what i thought was an old woman answered those out there. Hello hello scared. I'm scared this woman because it had a camera she's out there be like finally i was like all they can. This is real. Yeah i was. I was a little scared. Who shea who shay mooney i don. I don't have any money and about that time. Might be leave you door. I was scared. I was gonna open up to like you know someone prepared because this house is very much of like a fortress. It's loaded and stop it. Loaded gun loaded. This is but this puts me on a good question okay. I googled because i always think it's fun to google. How much people are worth..

"It as always there is a new bobby. Cast like best of up. Because a dan shays new record. We did two episodes one of them individually kind of learning their origin stories. And hope you guys go check it out there up on the bobby cast today. I dan dan shea. Here's a clip of him. Talking about how they would make fake pizza coupons on microsoft paint and use them were scammers. We may like fake coupons. We'd find a coupon expired. We would change the date so we did is we made it like buy one get one free seas and then we'd be sitting in there and then it'd be like Gentleman not we're we're about to close the store and we'd be like what all those pizza's up on the thing you guys throwing those away and they'd be like yeah. We have to take him in the dumpster. And we're like we meet you back you we Take the leftover pizzas. We were literally eat off this pizza for like six weeks at a time and as it became not really edible anymore we put it on the grill outback. That's how they they're struggling. Wow so the. Dan episode went up today right mike yesterday. Okay and shea is up today so you can hear. Both of them at shea said the hand and started writing songs before they were due duo and one of the coolest moments was getting a song. Put on hold by. Rascal flatts the same night that they wrote it not that we wrote two songs that day and one of them got put on. Hold that night for rascal flats and for us. We're like things things are heating up with. They never cut the song or anything like that. But for us it was just like. It was legitimately like rascal. Flatts heard our song. That was a huge and as small as that you know might seem now you know in our minds at st. It was such a big deal. He's yelling what and humming over clips but anyway go check them out. I was like talking. We're we're we're recording. Microphones are on so the humming was not part of the body cast. That was amy in the room. Going good fool. You have and i looked at an appointed at the mike and then she turned the volume up under humming anyway. Check those out there today if you wanna do that There will be no post show because we have an interview or about to do and then aiming client meeting and so we will become tied up all day long. But i wanted to start right. Today's radio.

"The guy. I don't want to be and i was early that guy but now i'm the exact opposite that's awesome and i appreciate it because our john maher show in minneapolis and i went through the mingrelian. Yep not as later. Later i hung out. I was cool later but he was on the show. At the beginning. I was listening. I wanted to go through a meet and greet line to see what it's like to go through a meeting line. Because where i am now i get a lot of things right because of my position. People say don't worry about it. And i've known john mayer for a bit. We've pretended this together. So i don't know him know him but professionally right now. We actually follow each other on social media. Maybe we'd recognize you'd recognize me. I'd recognize him like what. So but i went to the meet-and-greet lime and it was forty five minutes or so. And i sat and talked to people and it just gave me a new respect for even people that come to the it was. It's really good for me to do stuff like that was my mind. We were just in europe and december. And it's like we came a long way. We're like really far from worship arkansas. Where i got pennsylvania where we live now nashville were an ocean away and there are people who like canceled their plans book flights whatever it is to come see us play. That kind of blows my mind. It doesn't it make you feel guilty. It does hit me. they see me. I wouldn't go see me. See me either and i'm so grateful the people do but i almost want to apologize before the show. Yeah and say just spent maybe thirty bucks total thirty five bucks and how good. Yeah exactly. I feel like we were so lucky. Our fans are probably all listening right now but if got fans our friend kayla she's like our biggest fan she's so good to us so loyal we had to halftime show at the steelers game. The other day she earned her friend like to flight or drove and came all the way to game because he has two and a half songs like die hard but last night her and a bunch of other fans of our started. Gifting like people not just buying our song. Itunes they're like the geyser in the top ten on all genres. We should see if we can get him to number one literally were just with their credit card and the thing gifting our song to like anybody who. Dm twitter always been one hundred dollars like getting the same song over and over. And that's amazing. And i felt. I had a message i was like look so not to be. You can stop. I wanna go to number one too. But like you're just like to kind and i feel guilty. That's yeah you feel like i do anyway. I like man. I'm just not worthy of this. I feel the same. And i hope. I never don't feel that way if that makes sense for sure because i don't ever want to take it for granted neither do i. It's a good thing about being in a duo. If we ever have one of us ever is like starting to get a little bit taking it for granted. It's like you need to shape up like get punch the other guy arms so when you guys finally decided on dan shea the name the name. We're really just gun. Probably had to be like well. We couldn't come up with the name so we're just going to be dated. Shay yeah what was that conversation. And who was the one that okay. We think. it just should be dan shea. Was it as though. I don't remember exactly how it happened. But we are managers. We were scooter braun. Which by the way. It's funny because i was scooter two weeks ago and just go hold on facetime you. He's the king of facetime. While i'm sitting scooter. Los angeles where you were driving. Though we were on the bus. I think or was at home. Well whatever i remember yeah so scooters part of the. Hey we're gonna name you guys. Dan shea yeah he was born of that he was like you guys are like recognizable by your names because we met with skied flown out. We've had like insane experiences at scooters place. By the way is justin bieber konya carly clause usher manager. Yeah months arianna grenade buddy and we would like about and jam with justin bieber and selena. We'd be playing guitar and singing and doing all this stuff and like crazy these nights that you see in you know. Hbo series like crazy stuff and He was always just like everybody knows you. Guys dan shea. It's cool like for the branding and instead of having ban that you have to reinvent some new moniker. It's like why not just go by your names than people guys and do whatever we're like we don't have any other ideas sure. Let's go with it. And then i got my buddy p tracy. Patriots also moved to nashville with me when i moved here. He's from pittsburgh and like when he was on the dark. Tom the dr train with us for a long time but he's he's crushing now. He's he did you see jillions. New video jillian jacqueline i did. Yeah referees amazing. Three months she opened for. she's fantastic. I put it in my class at two thousand seventeen saw that and took her out for three months. She opened for brandon. Raise opened for me. I just love the new artists. Man fascinate. Tell you're such a big part of their careers though and breaking them. I mean they're they get to a certain level. I mean because of the exposure that you give them so how docked on jillian whenever you did that. Because i've known since andy. We talked about this at the hall of fame. 'cause you guys came up to my radio hall of fame you did. I didn't hear about their shave. Checked out he was. He was physically there rock. And so you. And i were talking at a bar in chicago and it was If i'm seven out of turn telling me. But you took devon jillian both able. Yeah right. that's warner brothers. You took them like yeah. I played a up. My devon's music for our buddy. Who's now he's not at warner brothers. Anymore note evans that were guests. But our buddy who was headed over there and played it for him and much people on the label. And you know. I've have a great relationship with john talent to try trying because they're both main tasks are you close to closer to devon though then you another artist like devin saying the first dance in my wedding. He's great like i believe in devon so much that's another talk about a guy who's passionate about his art devon dawson by the way. Yeah his records coming out this week. So i mean he is just. He is an amazing songwriter. We met i we were. We were writing songs together and I was just like this guy's prolific. Like his words are insane. His voice his voice to me. When i first heard that he was playing at the basement not the basement east but the regular small basement baseman. Your house this way. I don't even have a basement. He was made it the basement and we had written that day. And i told my wife. Abby i was like yo. She's a huge music fan. She's like ram narino. She knows solve all the good artists before i do and pixar singles and the whole deal You gotta go see. This guy. Wrote with today like he's insane. We saw about the basement. And i was like this guy's star incredible. I mean his voice has like a soulful i mean it's like a gavin agron kind of sound and his voice. He's got like a grassy kind of thing. I don't know i just think that guy and he's got his old branding and the monochromatic vibe and spit on people mike. When he was playing he was in that scene. Is we just spit on people days. I love devon. He's he's absolutely incredible We share a love of tequila. He he brings nice tequila bottles over my house and we enjoy but jillian is one of my oldest friends here national. We've been writing songs together. Since that she'd been that bad house that i was living in so yeah ask her about that place but yes she's awesome and she's she's so cool she's amazing. She's an amazing songwriter. Amazing singer she's beautiful Has a great attitude. She's been in this town. I find that happens like the people who have the most success have been here like cutting their teeth for a long time. Like everybody's saying hey add it. People think whenever you announced her into that class that she was like. Oh this girl just like got it. Made like bobby's going to blow her up. Whatever she'd been here for she'd been here longer than me so she's been here for probably ten at least ten years and she's a new artist is at the same time exactly right for new artists that these award shows. I might been at the thing but i'll take it takes forever to be overnight. Success does so okay. So you're dan plus shay and they had to be a thing of i. Because i bet everybody's calling you dan plus shay. Oh my stay still do out. This is dan plus shay with their first single. Nineteen you plus maids like new. But you know what to be fair. Yeah a plus. I it is it is and we had this.

I am a huge dan shea fan from the very beginning their first album was epic to me. And i just you know. I can't say enough. Good things about dan shea and i was really excited. They came in this week because they talk about their new album which they just dropped. And i've had on repeat ever since it came out at midnight. Yes i was up at midnight. Thursday night listening because i love them but they came in and they talked all about like the celebrities they get to hang out with. Justin bieber shawn mendez. Ed sheeran like these guys are hanging out with everybody. If you don't think dannon j. are allaster countries are at this point. You are sadly sadly mistaken. They're killing the game and they talk all about it and have such good story so listen back right now. This is our interview with dan and check number five. The friday morning conversation with dan shea. Congratulations on the new record today. Thank you man. Just good out there. Does it feel good or does it feel like a relief. I say both yeah after three years man it's been it's been too long especially after three years kind of like there's an asterisk on it after the last year and a half that we've all had has been three years since last album came out. I guess because we continue to get music from you one dose at a time. It doesn't feel like three years. Yeah meaning you guys have been putting out songs but then like a couple of those songs is probably going to bed. Ten thousand hours. Glad you exist. I guess we've been getting those deficient. Yeah that definitely kind of people over and felt like they were getting something because oh songs we're going up the chart but it's crazy to think that ten thousand hours. Was you know the first song office project. I wanna play a clip. And i saw this on. You guys social media. This is good things. This is live from your show an iowa. This is seven days after came out. Now which is wild to me because good things is not a single you know right now not yet okay so you put it out and it's not like it's getting played all over the radio but you play it at.

"To catch it is it tastes along with the song he was talking about. There were real drums on it and he was like you know what this just isn't me. I mean that's kind of a ballsy decision to make and country music. I want some electric drums on there. When a decision is made and has to do with song that could possibly be a single. I mean you get called in are you are you. You know what i don't. I'm not a musician at all I cannot play anything. I can't even play a tangerine and i just can't So what i do. Is i listen like a fan Which i think. Sometimes it's just as good as being somebody that can critically here. Something like that should be Half step higher or lower. I can't do any of that. So when i heard it in fact when i heard necas music for the first time i heard this way back and i was like i love this because i grew up as a kid listening to blackhawk and nwea so just talked about having outcast in alan jackson. I i did the same thing. So i came from a very diverse musical Fan background and. When i heard way back i was like this is. I'm all in on you. So we knew it was going to be tough but you know we also know that. The format is opening up so wide now and you have artists like a loop combs you have artists like dan shea and the artists like walker hayes and then you go back to chris stapleton. You have such a wide swath that luckily genre is becoming more and more welcome to wider. Sounds and that's why it was so fun to have niko in there but yes that was at a struggle absolutely in getting certain people to Understand it but you know when the majority of them meet nico and they understand him and they see the show the fan reaction and the reaction that he has with them It's undeniable and then a lot of people are like. Wow i get it. I understand what's going on in his stage. Presence is amazing. I didn't know a lot about nico i remember. You know meeting rod phillips who runs our country him. And i've been together in one form another for fifteen years. You're right so we're extremely close personally and professionally and i remember before luke calms luke was was on the verge him on. I had a talk and a meeting and a roman is like who's going to be and it was easily easily going to be sure. And i guess came on the show that morning remember. You made me cry you cried. I do remember that vividly. You did and it seems like a lifetime ago honestly but with nico i was. We were in the room at hurt. Some nico just as music did not like and rod was like. What do you think anything about him. He goes well. he's playing at the iheart. There's there's a meeting where summit the summit and i saw nego play music summit and i was like. Oh that's the guy goes. Yeah we've already. He's a matter what you're saying. We've already made him on the verge. And i was like i get it now though amazing. Now that you're right once you see once you see him play. If you haven't been convinced you're like oh. Yeah like i get it now and that's what it was for me with nico because i'm just hearing songs all the time right. I had stuff. I don't really have a relationship with scott shed at. I mean almost nine way back. When i first moved here kind of a little bit but i don't have a relationship scott and but we have. Everybody has their cell number down shirt and he signed an artist name. Thira who is an artist that i've had on the show and that i've had do some stuff here and i told him recently. I said hey nothing moves me anymore. Because and i buy nothing i mean almost nothing like i'm so jaded and i've heard everything i said but when i heard thira i holy crap like there is something about her. That really makes me. It gives you a little twins. Yeah but that was the same thing with nico whenever i got to experience that that nico what about nico to you was a guy that you want to invest your time and your money. Well th the work ethic is there. You know The passion that he has for what he does and the way that he does it you know. He writes everything anna his wife. That's a family affair He wants nothing more than to To be an artist and he to bring happiness to people and you know against being a jaded person Myself many things over the years of people like doing me wrong. Or or or seeing things go wrong i wanna do good you know and having nico around and doing what he's doing just like luke does i mean. I'm so blessed that i've picked such great artists to let me work with them They all are good people. And when i saw when when nico and he played in the music and then he's like he's like. Oh yeah let me. Let me show you this. And he sat with a guitar and it was just a guitar. Nico can sing too like a lot of people. Don't know that they think he hides behind this tracks. Also not even close. I mean you give the guy guitar and let him just do his thing and he does that in the show. Now i'm going to show people. He walks up with his guitar and does his thing but I guess you know. I just really like working with artists that are like super positive in to work hard. And that's where i'm at and i'm luckily everything on a minor like that. What about hollywood is would read her man. You know funny thing is. I worked with haley and i didn't know this back in two thousand fifteen. Haley opened up for three shows us. In the carolinas. It was anderson. South carolina darlington in another city. And i don't remember this. But hayley told me when i was interviewing with haley. Two years ago to be her manager she had narrowed it down to Myself and matt graham who come in and and and another manager and she finally called and said. hey. I'm ju i want you guys manage me and i was like wow. What was the deciding factor. she does. I opened up three luke com shows. You walked me to in from my car every night. You walked me to and from the backstage area to the green room. I mean from the green room to the stage which was not much of a bar and you made sure i had water on stage every night and you made sure that my merchants taking care of me you settle the show for me if nobody else did that. You were super sweet the entire time and you had no reason to be and she's like that was one of the deciding factors that pushed over the edge. If you were that nice to me back to the end imagine what. You're going to be like me now. And and And that's kind of where we are in. I mean i talked to her everyday. I literally hung up with the phone with her driveway. Well what a buzz on her though now to. It's you know. I would imagine that you sometimes you have to decide which which avenue of the buzz. You wanna go down. Yes in in in in this town or i guess with your artists. You really wanna go down. You want to make sure that the credibility side is really cemented tough before you go for any commercialism because the credibility is the one thing that you can have and then gain commercialism if you have a ton of commercialism it's hard to get credibility so I mean i. I don't i can't even recall somebody that that went full commercial and then was like. Oh this guy's super credible to so With haley. I think the biggest thing we want to do is just have her put her music out when she wrote the dream and did it all on her own with jake and her now fiance and her producer and they put that record out the entire town buzzed about the sound. And then you know. I have to say that the team that big loud seth in nicole galleon and at songs and daughters and the that whole team raised their hand immediately and said we want in on this project and we didn't exit show right for covert hit. I was like. I had to miss the show. I was in europe with luke When that all happened and we had to come back and haley was doing a show here and It went over great. I got a text from when i landed. Said we're in offers time. And that's how fast it happened and fast but you've been here for twelve years. Isn't that the truth. Yeah you something That i think's pretty poignant in that credibility has to be there before. The commercialism comes which i think though can be extremely frustrating as speaking as what i would call for a long time. I broke artists myself right. That's frustrating because you're going to make the money like i'd i need to make money. I need to pay bills and not only that. I'd like to have a nice car like but it is more of an investment. In the future on the spoils that could come then what you can get now and i would think that's a difficult conversation to have with. People were likewise. Stay poor for a minute because if you stay poor and be credible you.

"The thing right now. I happened again this is from. Cbs la back. What last month. We talked about a woman who tried to open the door to their plane last week. There's a story of a guy groping flight attendants and now a thirteen year. Old boy has gotten the duct tape treatment. The teenager allegedly threw a tantrum while flying from maui to los angeles with his mom and tried to kick out one of the planes windows. The crew members restrained having than duct. Tape them to the seat. The plane was diverted to honolulu. Where the boy was arrested. Here's a clip from cbs. Los angeles disturbance on a flight to lax caught on camera witnesses. Tell us tonight. A thirteen year old boy tried kicking the window out next to his seat and became physical with his own. Mother told happened one hour into that. American airlines flight from maui fellow passengers helping restrain. The boy then appeared a flight attendant duct tape. That child. two seat plane was then diverted to honolulu. The boy was ten taken into custody and no one was injured. I mean i wonder there's duct tape training. Now they have to. It's tuesday guys. Get your duct tape south supplies after to bring with you. People are so messed up right now. People have gone but alert. If i see somebody trying to kick out a window that to me scares me now. Do we add duct tape in your pocket and anybody that gives you any live for talks. Kicks your seat. Duct tape them for the seat. Save the sometime and just get get duct tape and duct tape lunchbox in this room when he was being mean to abby yesterday when she was singing. Maybe we can start doing that. I wouldn't mean. I was on about like duct tape. Tuesday i never tuesday. We all bring duct tape in anybody. We don't like we try to hold them down duct tape on. I don't know that's the news. Thank you bobby's stories. Let me run this by. A best man gave a speech at a wedding. He the little joke about the bridesmaids didn't go over well. This story is from nine dot com. And i guess. I just feel for the guy because someone who gets paid to tell jokes sometimes sometimes jokes just don't work in in your heart and you wrote them for good reason and they just don't hit so. This is a comedian. No no that's the case but sometimes in a wedding it's tough to find the right mix of being heartfelt insincerity with a little bit of humor and so a guy throws an impromptu job. At the end of speech backfired. He was asked to leave the wedding by the bride. You want to hear the speech. The us he goes on talks about couple the guy the girl he said bridesmaids. I'm a bit short of time here. And i don't really know you also. I just like to say the five out of six of you look stunning today. Figured out amongst yourselves he was addressing anyone specifically said jell. That was just a joke. I don't think he was looking at one of them. Going figured out. I think he was just go going. Five hundred sixty. You look great. You figured out as a joke that didn't hit. I don't think he was targeting one single person who could be that cruel right but guys if they were all tens. That joke wouldn't even like okay. That'd be a hobby if there's one though wedding is like i don't think he would have said that if that was the case. I know you're right. I don't know i'm like i feel as someone who is bomb jokes on a big stage before. Like i feel bad for the guy that i think. He was just trying to be funny. Because now suddenly all the bridesmaids are self conscious and everyone at the at the receptionist staring at them and trying to figure out which all out but i don't think he was talking about one half a brain would know he's not really talking about one given people are automatically going to figure it out just for fun even if you listen serious and looks relative. He later message everyone to apologize and also posted a public apology on the wedding facebook page. But that only result in the bridegroom telling off in a message jiangnan grandma dozen and well you know. She's on facebook and course gene on instagram. Or dig talk. I feel bad for the guy. I don't think he did that with any malicious intent I don't think i would ask him to leave. But obviously they weren't the bride and her people weren't close to him. He could've been you know like some of your groomsmen. We hadn't seen in years. You're close to them. Yes but some of the bridesmaid never met some of them sometimes. There's just a joke that you you're you're borderline about and you don't do. I did that. Because i went into the governor's mansion and there were a bunch of people there for charity dill and they wanted me to get up and tell jokes and i did half an hour of comedy that i wrote just for that situation in. There were a couple of jokes. And i went to the governor with one joke and i said i'm not gonna do this joke but i'd like to read it to you because they think it's funny and i read it to him anyone. That's funny don't do it. I know i got you. I'm not doing joke but sometimes you just gotta go probably not for me to do this joke right now. I don't think he should have been trouble for that one though so there is open. Everybody's good we're gonna grab some calls in a second. See all the lines filling up. I want to remind you. Dan and shea will be on the show tomorrow. Love those guys have a new record. That's coming out at midnight tonight. So they'll be in tomorrow. We're actually we're opening song tomorrow as well from them whenever we got married which has been three or four weeks or so july seventeenth almost a month Good wedding after mont-. Oh yeah been through. I've been through it. Yeah so prepare a lot about marriage. We and we talk about this tomorrow. I asked dan shea who. I'm friends with to sing at the wedding. Which i think was harder for me to do than someone. I'm not friends with because we have a relationship but we don't do a lot of work stuff out of work. That relationship is built on humans. And i was like. Hey guys we sing this song and they have so many wedding songs. And i think they thought i was gonna ask them to sing from the ground. Oh yes speechless. Glad you exist. And instead i was like hey. We do a cover from full house so for house. Jesse was an uncle. Jesse was in a group called jesse and the rippers and at his wedding. He's in a full talks. He sits down at the piano and he sings forever to.

"This is true like you just want to see how far they arranged can go and there is no limitation. How good was that performance. So good like such a cool moment for them and you can tell they were really happy. But that's what they chose. But dan shea were so good at not making it about them no like yeah like they're freaking into and they're sitting up there singing the song but not once. Did i look at it. Maybe once maybe twice won twice. Maybe three times i look like nailing a dan shea. There's offering frigging awesome. And they're so good but it was not too right. That's just a natural reaction but yes as sounding like an. You're all dressed up with everybody else. Like yeah no but it wasn't. You were focused on bobby and caitlyn. Which was a really cool moment. So i would say that was really cool. Okay so you knew a lot of things before they happen not a lot but i knew some some and how did you keep a secret from everybody. How did you even know that that was a secret. Like how because not only do you have this in like your personal life right but then you have to come on the like crap. What do we talk about on the show. And then you can't say it on the show with stuff like this. I don't bring it up. Just stopped it. You're like i'm not bringing it up if he goes there. Then i know it's okay. There's a green light. But if he's not going here. Why would i even even easy like this is why i don't lie about anything in my life because like i cannot keep things straight i will automatically slip up. Yes i can keep secrets but like lies or are very difficult for me so when you lie like we can tell ya nobody. I don't lie physically. Can't live like i literally start small and i'm like no that's not true. Such a good trait. Yes and no..

No but when are full house dan shea played they played forever ever but i heard something else. Maybe maybe play the friends theme song just remember tv themes all night. I think that was not something purpose. Okay to things were for us forever. And then the office. Themes on badly cranberries happened at the okay. Throw that in there We have a guestroom full of wedding gifts. Now and i don't want open all the gifts and they have to go back and write. Thank you cards. So we're doing is every day we go for three or four them rights card as we opened the gift card in a basket and the next day we slowly moved through it. And that's smart. Because i don't want to open everything and then just never get two guards. 'cause that's what will happen can get overwhelming. So as i'm opening one kayla writes the card. And i signed it. Then she goes on and i write the card and sign it and then she signs it so we have our end in the people that were like from her side of the wedding. She writes card for. And i signed it as an open. You know we got a little plan here. Are you writing more than thank you for the coffee course which way we are. Mostly i think but like a little inside with most people. I hope so i was so far we are. You know seventy cards from now. I'm can ask me then but we're slowly getting through that but right it's all we know wedding at our yard and our house and with a basketball court in the back and they had to move the basketball shattered one of the backboards..

We're gonna play a attract some join the next off now and then rate obviously so as for a minute to fifty minutes dependent on i was going said the one question i record is your john. Were always country. Sounds because when i listen to some of the tracks some of action listened to the trucks and planned tonight but listen to of us. I don't get that country feeling from the record you get more singer songwriter. Americana or yeah. Kind of your. Because he's not i mean. Who do you like come. Dolly parton dolly. Parton that your music Well no that's that's pretty getting national country abuse net. Probably not have been hearing that as they say. It's more on the edge of the country. I mean i. I think they have some pop in my songs. The catchy Maybe know some people say more singer. Songwriter of alternative country americana. I mean i've had been on some playing this country. So i mean nowadays countries more open a little bit so they have a little bit more like sam. Hunt is definitely. He's got a little bit of wrapping his sound. You have Dan shea so countries a little bit more wide open. It's not just the traditional willie nelson sound. Hasn't been that way for. Got florida florida georgia line. But my singers that they used they definitely have a twang in their voice. Benny will how would you characterize it. You probably why. I'm old fashioned Dolly parton willie nelson but now you are white occas even love songs and other pop songs. You've got to have something different. "Let's talk about the actual grammy winners Starting with Billy Bush. Yeah who swept all all of the big four categories which is best new artist Song of the year record of the year and album of the year. And it's not for nothing but she's she's the first female artist to ever sweep those four categories. The last time anyone ever did it with Christopher Cross x eighty one for you stat nerds is out there. also also could no guaranteed track record for long-term. It was a strange evening because going into the awards. A really really looked like lizards had the potential to have a huge sweep thing. She led the nominations for the entire year. Little Nasdaq's and Billy I. I wish weren't that far behind her. But in the end Liz only got a couple of the awards and then the ceremony went on and on and on for hours hours and then in the last few minutes billy I took off for the top SPA. Yeah it it did at as you said. Liz Won the first award. In in the telecast for best pop solo performance of for Truth Hearts beating among others billy Bush and earlier in the day Luisa won best traditional rb performance performance and best urban contemporary album. So they gave out a nine awards over. The course of the telecast four went to one went to lose oh the others went to to Dj Callard featuring nipsy Russell and John Legend won for best rap. Sung performance Dan Shea Won. Best Country Duo group performance. A little Nasdaq's exp featuring billy ray Cyrus won. Best Pop duo group performance and tyler. The Creator won best rap album for eager. Yeah and the funny thing thing is that tyler seemed really ambivalent about winning for best rap album to the seemed to indicate that he thought it would be much more comfortable in Dan. Hi Pop music category and that kind of caused back to this real struggle. The Grammy's has had with black music and traditionally Sean you black forms and black artists that there's been a lot of criticism that they subvert those artists into the side categories. Gorey's that are have a big. You know a big box around them saying that you're black then you belong here and that sort of this tonight. What kind of calls back to that in a really uncomfortable way you know if you think a few years ago about beyond say and Adele and you think about Kendrick Hendrick and you think about all these artists who have not quite gotten the shine that people might have expected? It may feel maybe not tyler's album women in particular but It's her raises a lot of those same questions and this is exactly the kind of stuff that the grammys are struggling with. When it comes to inclusivity and diversity this is a fine time for us to talk about performances and moments that we liked and didn't like what were some of your highlights? I have to say there were some really really on point performances tonight lizotte. Starting out was incredible degree. She brought everything tonight. I liked billy. We can talk about that. Maybe that wasn't such a thing. I thought that Rosalia did a great job of introducing who so she is and what she's all about this evening.

Women Shine at the 2019 CMAs

"CMA awards are known as country. Music's biggest night at the third annual award show last evening the stated focus was celebrating legendary women in country music but for many fans of Country Countries Superstar Carrie Underwood who's also a long running host of the ceremony. The night was a bit of a letdown. Here's Nashville based NPR music critic. Ann Manpower's the status of women in country. Music is a hot topic in Nashville. These days and it has been since two thousand fifteen when Keith Hill who radio consultant made some comments since that gave rise to the phenomenon known as Tomato Gate or salad gate. He basically said that the reason that women were not often played on country radio. Oh is because they were the tomatoes in the salad of country music just there for an accent. Unfortunately the data backs up. What Hill was saying? It's shocking looking how little there played compared to men so there's been a grassroots movement activist groups like change. The conversation down here is it's a big one that have really fought back against this and women are organizing women artists organizing and one way that people respond to these kinds of challenges. Challenges is to mess with award shows. Because you know what John. It's easier to mess with an award show then to mess with the radio format. Sadly yeah I saw on the red carpet Jennifer nettles from the band Sugarland War Cape. That said play our expletive records. Did that message carry out into the show in terms of what people we're saying as they were picking up awards. Oh definitely a one. High Point was when Casey mass graves one for female artists of the year. She gave really heartfelt acceptance speech where she talked about. How female energy is important? Not just for country music but for the earth right now. It's kind of like Greta tune. Bergen Komo moments. But you know that vibe ran through the night in the way that the hosts spoke the evening was hosted by three women usually it's hosted by Carrie underwood and Brad Paisley. But instead of Brad we had to legends of Country Music Reba mcentire and Dolly Parton three women hosting the CMA's Ama's your lucky and definitely surfaced. When women won awards I I guess one or two of the dudes mentioned something to I think Dan Shea The duo who won I think they made a comment about how wonderful it was to see. So many women

"I will say this about the about the about the Grammys. It was long. I mean long it started at seven. And it ended at a quarter to eleven. Oh, yeah. That's yeah. That's really long. Yeah. And you the know you had your e. Red carpet, which I think started around noon. The get gets Seacrest out there. And there's you know, they're they're out there for three hours before the before the show so long. It was a long long night for all the people who were there. The overall. I mean, like I said earlier the Grammy's really is. Not like other award shows in that they're mostly concerned with the performances not so much, you know, the awards themselves. They only hand out a few awards during during the Grammy's mostly it's about. It's about the performances and there were there was a ton of performances on the on the show. Some were good some weren't. Like, I said for me the best performance of the night. With brandy Carlisle. Who I really like a lot. And I thought her I thought she gave the best performance. And and of course, you had you had your tributes there. Diana Ross turned seventy five and she did she did your basic Diana Ross over the top performance. And. Herger grants her grandson introduced her and he's nine and he's got like an incredible head of hair. He was he was real. He was really he was really very very funny this kid, and then there was a tribute to Dolly Parton, which was great because Dolly Parton. That's that's the one that. I I really wanna go back and watch. Yeah. It's it's you definitely should because. Between her and Cyrus working together. And then. Her singing the song called red shoes? I just you know, I mean, I love I love Dolly Parton. She's she's phenomenal. So but overall, I I mean, I did think it was way too long. And you know, they were cutting their speeches. Who people would get up there? And when they're when they're award, and then they were just like really blasting the music and cutting the speeches. Which at that point. It's like at this point man, the show is like four and a half hours long. But are we? What are you? What are you worried about the speeches for so? But yeah, I mean here are some of the winters are, you know, some of these winners are were surprising. I think. So like, for instance, record of the year went to this is America by childish Gambino, which I'm thrilled about because I love childish Gambino. But Donald Glover wasn't there. That was the that was the disappointing thing. It was like, you know, they want some major awards. One record of the year and run one song of the year. So those are two major major awards Donald Glover wasn't there. So this is America one song of the year at one record of the year album of the year went to golden hour by Casey muss graves. Who I was not very familiar with. But she's good. Best new artist went to do a leaper best solo pop solo performance went to JoAnne. Where do you think you're going by lady Gaga? Best pop duo or group performance went to shallow by lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, by the way, lady Gaga's performance was weird. I mean, she's she is a bit of a weird. Performer in general. But. It was very intense and crazy. She was wearing a weird civil know like a glittery jumpsuit and making all kinds of weird faces and stuff, and I just was I was the little I was a little confounded by her by your performance. And I really liked the song. I mean, obviously shallows a terrific song. And it's probably going to win an Oscar and a couple of weeks for her. But yeah, she and Bradley Cooper got the got the award for best pop duo or group performance. Best pop album went to sweetener by our 'Grande, Ariana GRANDE day, best rock performance with when bad. Does goodbye. Chris cornell. Chris cornell. How did he have a backlog of of new material is that what the deal is? That's that's got to be. Yeah. What happened there? Yeah. Well deserved. Well. Yeah. Mean he was the best deserved. Best rock song went to miss education. By Saint Vincent. Best rock album from the fires by Greta van fleet. Best alternative music album was colors by Beck. Best R&_B performance best part by her. Best urban contemporary album. Everything is loved by the Carter's best Rb album her by her. Best rap performance. Kings, dead Kendrick Lamar. And bubbling, by Anderson pock, or pack Anderson pack. Best rap song to God's plan by Drake. Best rap album went to invasion of privacy by Cardi B. So I have a question for you. Would you truly consider Drake a rapper? Yeah. I just feel like he just talks over. Yeah. No. He's a rapper. He's a rapper has never. I just never hear wrapping when I compared to like, I get he's different in an hands down mad respect to him for being different standing out everything. I just compared to everything else that's out there. I just never think. It's. And he's Canadian. Oh, wow. So best music video went to this is America, childish Gambino, man. Donald Glover, man. Yeah. When in some serious stuff that video rules. It was awesome. Yeah. Or the song is amazing to chose Gambino. Hey, you know, weird Al yankovic wanna wanna Grammy? That's that's too now for squeeze box the complete works of weird Al yankovic, which is best boxed or special limited edition package. So at one for the packaging. Yeah. I like that. Yankovic? What was it was it last year was the first time you want one? Two years who years ago, but it, but it took that long. Yeah. How did how did weird Al not? How did he not have a granny? I have no idea. How does he have a room full of Grammy's? So I don't know. You know, you know, they get so many weird categories. This is the thing about the Grammys is that there's like seven thousand awards they only hand out about six of them on the show, but there's like a million awards here. Best compilation soundtrack for visual media. What that went to the greatest showman. Best soundtrack for visual media, Black Panther. That one has my vote, but I'm a marvel fan. Yeah. You know, the music the music for Black Panthers. Great. I think you know, what for all those marvel movies? The scores have been awesome. Yeah. Just really outstanding. Let's see best country song went to space cowboy Casey muss graves. I'm assuming that's not the. It's not the Steve Miller song. I would I would imagine. Best traditional pop vocal album. My way by Willie Nelson. Best country duo group performance. Dan shea with tequila. So the the those guys performed those guys performed last night. Did they? Yeah. And I don't even know. I like, here's here's another thing. Whenever I watched the Grammys or or like music awards and stuff, especially the MTV, which I don't even try to watch anymore. The MTV video music awards because I feel like I'm one hundred and six years old. I have no idea who anybody is. Like when I was watching. I was watching the Grammy's last night. I'm like, I have no idea that is I've never heard this song before in my life. Deli part partner, Diana Ross word Sam smokey Robinson. I knew that. But yeah, you know, a lot of a lot of the stuff. That's like, you know, younger. I don't I dunno. Shawn Mendez guy. He was okay. He performed I believe he performed again. I think that was also with Miley Cyrus. Yeah. It was that was what Miley Cyrus to. She was all over the place last night. I try to be as open minded as possible. But I just do. I just like for the most part. I just kind of sit on my couch, and I don't I don't recognize anybody. I don't know who these people are so three one two nine eight one seven two hundred is the phone number if you'd like to to join us. If you watched what did you think what did you guys think of the the ceremony? What did you guys think of? Of the performances because there were a lot of performances. Let's see best is ain't got bluegrass. You've got traditional blues guy won the blues is alive. And well. Best spoken word album. Jimmy Carter Jimmy Carter got himself a Grammy. Best music film. How is that? When did that become a category? I don't know. But I like it best music film. And I don't see. Wait a minute. I feel like Bowie's Quincy. From Quincy jumps before before. I heard that. I just would have gone with bohemian rhapsody. But yeah. Say. So. Yeah. And then also last night were the Bastas. Those are the British film awards. They were handed out as well at the same time. But I ended up watching the Grammys ex. I basically forgotten that the Baptist were. We're we're being handed out. That's why Bradley Cooper wasn't at the Grammys. Someone lady Gaga got up to to accept their award for their group or
