"As we get ready to shutdown clone summer to close up the boardwalk boardwalk. I said twice 'cause clones We are going to break it down our penultimate time with a little movie called surrogates. What did we miss what. What possibly Could we have not discussed. I mean because i feel like we picked it to the bone but It is now time for corrections omissions. Together coup ridge Got this thank you brandon abella all right so we have called through dozens of voicemails and hundreds of posts on the discord. We have found the best observations theories fact checks and useless research. We present them all here. So buckle up There's some doozy's a by the way we should start. Threading these on dischord. I think it'll be a lot easier. We have great Moderators on our discord. But let's start threatening these hosts easier for co find All right dr guts. Ten o-3 rights for those of you. Who didn't know sir. It's based on a graphic novel. And is you know often the case the film deviates from the original story here are some interesting differences. Surrogates were originally designed for people with physical handicaps. A yes that makes sense but eventually society realize that they could use to dealing with a workplace safety issues. Avoid racial discrimination and upgrade one's appearance. For vandy sick okay. I get that. I liked that growth There is only one character. Zapping surrogates mysterious figure named the stable. Jack he's a weapon that fries circuits but it does no harm to the human operate. Okay interesting when steeple jack a tax a surrogate he commands the operator to live before. Frying the surety. See that why. Why are we missing out on very core concepts the okay great. The main detective is named harry greer. Not tom okay. who cares. He works with a male. Fbi agent on the case will. That's good change there and through the investigation. He's challenging in his own thinking about surrogates and the role technology plays in our lives. He i like that too. The profit is a real human being surrogate and after a mass surrey deactivation the dreads take to the streets and destroy the vs. I building after. Losing her surrey. Greer's wife commits suicide. This is a movie. why would we deviate from that. That's good really good all right. Gt seven five rights when we see under the skin of the circuit. It appears that they are almost entirely made of metal rather than lightweight materials like plastics. Composites shouldn't human size steel robots with batteries that apparently last all day being credibly heavy to the point of damaging office furniture or breaking through wooden floors when they run or fight or at the very least carful of them should like low ride suspension should just be crushed. Well you know what Gt seven five. You've got it. Yeah you nailed it. I did not think about that. No one thought about that But we are in the future. So maybe you know medal is different. I mean there jumped maybe medal. I there's a star trek four. I'm gonna reference star trek four. Because that's about as deep as i get into science and i believe that scotty goes to Plastics company and makes a plastic as strong as steel. And that's House the humpback whales in the klingon ship. So i'm gonna go with debts kind of future that we're using. It's kind of a heavy plastics Plastics what movie is from dazed and confused. Now that's not all right. Let's go to the phones all right. This is good up bomb where we got here from anonymous. Hey all longtime listener first-time caller twenty to say that The tech guy. Bobby infuriates actually does from home alone. I don't know if you guys noticed it and didn't think it was worth mentioning or you didn't know this. Maybe it's a revelation to you. But i suppose that's all i got love the show. Thanks bye damn. I did not realize that you did my and by the way. That is the perfect message to leave. You don't have anything funny or clever ad. You just kinda drop a fact. Domingo take it or leave it. I loved it. I loved it anonymous So yes buzzer malone who i believe. I don't know if i'm breaking any fucking secrets here. But is going to reprise his role as buzz in the brand new home. Alone sequel with ellie kemper and rob delaney And a few other people that That you might like going to be on disney plus. Dan mazer directed it the great. Dan mazer All right Okay next one from lisa. Hi paul. Ii kodiak devon It's lisa my question or observation. With i thought a surrey was in the definition. Is the wagon that you know complete around the late wagon moves forward so i thought the story was that this is how people got around. It's like their version of a surrey vehicle and that's what they use surrogates for so i didn't think it was shortened nickname for surrey. But i could be insane. I mean yeah. Melissa you fucking blew my mind. Whoa everyone think about that. Sit with that. Wow yes yes yes. Yes okay We know this know. I'm gonna do a little bit. More researcher 'cause surrey is a doorless four wheeled carriage popular in the united states during the nineteen th twentieth centuries We all know it from oklahoma surrey with the fringe on top right. We all saying that Usually two seated and holding four passengers series had a variety of tops and included rigid fringe canopy parasol extension the traditional spindle back. Often upholstered bench seats anyway surrey. Cart was named after surrey in england where there were made and You know i believe. I believe you unbelievers anyway. Back to the discord. Jd connor rights when they were talking about the performance of the actors in the circuits. Anything about what. the acting. profession is like in a world where ninety eight percent of the population is series. I mean how would this work. Are there meet bag movies or their surrogate movie stars. And how are they paid. Do bags make more or less when you hire. Surrogate did just pay their salary. Do you have to pay the surrey with the fringe on top reference to serie Okay so He who you know what i'm gonna say here Interesting point of view Because the operator bag is the operator right. So i think the pay would be the same but i believe that if you're surrogate famous in the i mean why would you need movies. You can act out everything you want right or maybe not. I mean if you could do everything that you wanted..

Ben Silverman - Ececutive Producer of The Office

"How did you discover the uk version of the office. I was at my friend. Henrietta conrad's house. I was not an agent. I had left being an agent where i had found everything from who wants to be a millionaire to cracker queer as folk and had translated them into america as the packaging agent and i laughed. Backed by barry diller to start my own company called rally and i had just begun reveling in win over to london for a work trip and was staying at my friend. Henrietta conrad's house and we were watching television. And i was literally flipping the channels and i came on to the office. This is episode one or two okay of the uk season one office. Wow and i was watching it. I wondering if it was for comedy or for real than quickly recognized what it was doing single camera no laugh track faux documentary with people who felt real and i kept watching and started laughing. And it's really hard to make me laugh. And i was falling in love with the show in that moment and then i started thinking about it the next day in the morning and i asked henrietta if she knew ricky gervais as and she said no but her friend dan. Mazer did and we organized and had dinner with dan that night. Which are twenty four hours after you after you see it for the first time on television. You're having dinner with someone who could get you to ricky. Yes and additionally. I also wanted to be with dan. Dan was sasha baron. Cohen's partner allergy was on television. Was allie ardor your then no in the uk okay. But i'm with dan mazer yep. Dan is lovely brilliant in his own. Right and i start peppering questions about the office. And he gives me ricky cell phone number and so the next day. I call ricky around eleven o'clock in the morning and introduce myself on the phone and say i'd love to meet you. Are you in town. He goes actually. Yes me in soho at the starbucks this afternoon and i coordinate a meeting and i spent an hour with ricky talking about the office and very quickly we got along because we both love television and he truly was making me laugh even in those moment right over over the coffee at starbucks and so he clearly had chosen the location of the starbucks because he then says to me oh good news. My agent is right around the corner. Let's go meet with them so it was almost like he met me confirmed. I was okay roy. Conversation was interesting and then we walked over and met with dunkin' as his agent. And then duncan and i began a three month process to secure the rights. And it wasn't until dunkin. Help me unlock it. All that i realized. Both the bbc and ricky controlled the rights. I needed ricky and stephen merchant to actually get it done and agitate to get it done otherwise. It was never going to get done. Got it so you you deal with the bbc. And you deal with ricky steven. You have this partnership in place and where do you go into the united states. I immediately start making phone calls and saying. Are you aware of the show the office. Do you know what it is. Do you think it would interest you. And this is probably now a month after are so run. The show has started to gain buzz. It's aired its cycle in the uk. Its initial six episodes and so it has an awareness. Now it's a thing right not a big thing but to anyone in england it in the television industry. You're aware so. I'm i'm back at the states reaching out to people one of the incredible things about hollywood which was a huge advantage for me to do. Well was that people in hollywood are pretty insular and don't like to travel. They think you need a passport to get from burbank to beverly hills. That is travel and so many people at this time in american television had no clue connection about anything beyond la. Right and only one exac at the time knew what i was talking about was a guy named nick grad. Who worked at fx and he knew what the show was and he loved the show. Kevin riley was running fx. At the time. I'd gone to less mooned us he passed. I went to gail berman. She passed immediately. Didn't get it. Hbo said we'll never do a remake. They clearly have altered that thinking that that time they were like. We won't do a format and showtime wasn't doing shows like this right. I didn't go to abc. 'cause i just knew it wasn't abc. Right and i was starting to tease. Nbc with it and kevin than got named the head of nbc. And i bring it up to him. And i say would you wanna do it here and kevin says absolutely little. Did he know he was actually my only buyer that time. He was the only one right who wanted everyone else. All of television everyone else had passed. Now are you in kevin's like let's do it. Like let's let's make it. You know i'll give you a pilot movement and then kevin's boss though. Who is very involved in his life. Jeff zucker didn't really like it that much because it was his single camera. Nola back injury. I got it like it was a hard pill for them to swallow. I was also like they didn't want the game show back in prime time when i brought millionaire. Everyone thought that was cheesy. Daytime like no no. This will change. Tv know you gotta look at it from how to push the genre and pushed the envelope. So that you can expand versus always play for defense right and i was like this is another level and this is potentially transformative of television and with that can come great great

Disney+ Will Reboot Four Fox Movie Franchises

"Us about disney's plans to boot several popular fox properties so disney snitch chief robert iger announced on an earnings call with investors that the studios developing several reboots and reimagining of fox's family friendly hits including being titles like home alone ninth museum dairy of wimpy kid and cheaper by the dozen and these reboots would be debuting on disney plus according to a new report from collider rider so these are fox's most recent <hes> family friendly hits apart from cheaper by the dozen which is actually slee remake in a ended of itself so and it seems like disney plus is building its titles original content to be largely reboots reboots in a sense <hes> and <hes> recognizable i._p. In addition to this there are also seeing some disney live action makes his animated films like lady and the tramp as as well as just the marvel and star wars titles but <hes> that seems to be the strategy that disney plus is going forward in the coming streaming wars. I mean that's kind kind of depressing isn't it that that disney acquired fox just to sort of push off some of these like remix fox properties onto disney plus yep <hes> they can't just have these <hes> these classics on their <hes> streaming platform as in the archives to slap the disney brand and on it and put a little twist up apparently <hes> the home alone reimagining for example would <hes> put a twist on the story and make it without a husband and wife could go to with a young boy who has stolen something from them so that's something along the lines of what will likely be seeing with these remakes interest. It's not even home alone yeah. What what a bizarre. That's like a yeah. It's a totally different concept. They could just make you know original movies themselves but you know you gotta have that i._p. I guess 'cause that's disney strategy and they're making a lot of money from it hub so brad. I was going to throw to you and say. Is there any hope that these projects addicts could be you know maybe better than we think and maybe not quite as crass as we're making them out to be but that particular <hes> synopsis or description of what they're planning to do with home alone get makes me even more worried than i was. You know thirty seconds ago do you do you even with that in mind do you. I think that there's any chance that these are going to be like worth seeking out or do you think it's just mining these properties for name recognition alone. I mean there's always a chance when it comes to stuff like this. I i've tried to be a little more understanding and less judgmental <hes> when it comes to remakes re boots. There have been some really good remake reboots. There've been some really bad remakes in reboots and so there's always a chance that they could figure something out. <hes> disney does have a lot of talented people working for for them and a lot of people who want to work for them so it wouldn't have their own possibility for you know some of these movies to work. I just wish that they would you know invest their time in making the things that really haven't been done yet or at least adapting more interesting stories that come from other you know media i see this slate the titles and i can't help but get frustrated that they scrapped the mouse guard adaptation which looked fantastic <hes> all in favor of doing you know more remakes like this so that is frustrating rating but i kind of just a wait and see scenario for me. I i don't know what to expect from the quality of these movies that will go into disney plus but i guess i'll will be hoping for the best a._t. Do we know any other like notable information about any of these particular projects or is it still too early to talk about casting and stuff like that. It's still a little too early <hes> home alone remake is a reboot is the one that we have the most information on apparently a brat scribe. Dan mazer is being i to direct the film while melissa mccarthy is reportedly being to star in it as one of the parents so so but other than that we don't know if that's settled yet
