"And then t bbc am. You could him think third or fourth round every with think he's beating bus villi. I didn't intend to have him in the quarters until things just start bit carried away. He had some very strong things to say about actually in the fact that at the atp or his his belief that the should have a domestic violence policy and that the situation with bacilus villian with as well of different. Situations basler's villiers awaiting trial For domestic abuse charges has highlighted. The absence of any kind of policy and murray was prudan equivocal about about that last time when he was asked about it in relation. Two's very of will pass to. Andy sticking his head out and and being prepared to say what he thinks on that subject and standing firm in that beliefs that not enough is done in order to to have a clear policy and and and a sequence of processes that would follow an allegation of time. Yeah it would. It would certainly be uncomfortable for me to watch andy. Murray louis his probable lost of win wimbledon match to nikoloz parcel nashville But we'll see. The heavens have opened in while i'm s w fifteen or just a mile down the road say why think the prediction is that reeves will be owned maariv. Plural number. One court reef will be out in force I think that's it in terms of drawer needs. We heard from serena williams and her pre-tournament press conference that she doesn't plan to play the olympics There's a spate of those withdrawals happening on the dennis. chiappa follow. Said he's not gonna play olympics dominic. Thiem not planning to play the olympics. He also isn't playing wimbledon. He suffered a wrist injury in new yorker last week. It looks quite badly. That wrist injuries going to keep him out for a while. May slightly look. I can understand it and it does tend to be a trend bit of a trend. That if you've got an olympic gold medal it's kind of a box ticked. It is slightly different to the grand slams in very different depending on. The player is new. Because i think there are. Some players seem to prioritize olympics ahead of everything else but more often than not. It's the other way around. And i think this is a very specific olympics. It's during a pandemic in tokyo where there is anxiety generally and i also think there is just such a bubble fatigue about these players now and it's just another one that they would have to shoehorn in. Yeah andy. murray will play the olympics. He was announced in the gb. Skorts alongside dan evans in singles. Cam nori apparently had counted himself out. Said he didn't want to play The olympics andy. Murray beluga play doubles alongside joe. Brie and donovan's will play with neil skupski. Which impression is as much of a surprise to dan evans. It is it is to everybody else that he's going to be playing olympic doubles but grateful. They did have a lot of success as a team. Yeah yeah. I love. Olympic doubles pairings. I saw that as a restaurant. Saba linka won the doubles title in berlin. A couple of weeks ago when they tweeted great preparation for the olympics. That's a doubles team. I'm excited about so yeah. I'm sure they'll be developments. All my goodness may i almost didn't mention venus indicator. Nick aerials which is a double. Some mixed doubles team might be the best thing intended to lead with it and here. We are fifty minutes later. And i'm only just mentioning it. darnold tom. williams and nick carriers are playing mixed doubles together. I gasped when i found out about that. I i think it's an amazing pairing It's source of been in the works for a few years. We've we've discovered that venus williams was asked. I think the wnba finals sort of launch event. A few years ago who who dream mixed doubles partner would be and she said playing with nick. Kiro be would be fun. I think and he replied to that saying yes lake. Shouldn't he will four years later and it's happening and look i will be dropping everything to wash them in first round action thing. That is the power of that parenting. All i'll be dropping everything for that as well. Just speaking of dropping everything. I have had an email. London books just this moment from wimbledon from the afc Which is saying that. The referees office has advised that johanna konta has been withdrawn from the ladies singles. Draw having been classified as a close contact of a positive tests for covid nineteen in line with government legislation countries required to spend ten days in self-isolation yay fan. One will replace her in the draw. Obviously that's literally just landed where all processing that live but it feels like a big story that i mean obviously devastating for concert. Really feel for her But on the brink ever a championships that is going to welcome full crowds over the weekend. is sort of being seen as a big step forward towards normality from akiva perspective fails like a. Yeah a big story on a on a blow an crush down to earth where well it does doesn't it brings into focus. The rest of the tournament inevitably because they've been building this. What they hope is foolproof bubble. i mean. There's no such thing really is that generally but they've done the best job that possibly can. No expense spared no planning Sped and here we have the british number one in women's game out Four close contact test and the statement from the mainland. Tennis club says that both yohannan antenna team member had tested negative on all their previous tests taken But it just goes to show. That's all it takes. And she is now in ten days of self-isolation and out of wimbledon..

"I think that that's good for you to just get your bearings and and to have to come straight in with testing with the new bumble and all that sort of thing. I'm not convinced really the they'll be in. I think that it does make some plays vulnerable in that first match. I think if you get past you. I won that match. Toughness can really come into it then. Very interesting completely agree. Yeah so no. One's got undress q. Giving a thing in the quarters to love ash parties opening the women's tournament. Yeah becau. I love it too. But it's happened as a result of smyrna halloween. Having to having to withdraw from the tournament she went to wimbledon shoes posting all sorts of really upbeat up lifting boats. Post some hair on finding and a half the chance to defend my title and she has to pull out the searches. Shame over that is probably probably one of my favorite wimbledon traditions. Actually the fact that if you win the tournament united exactly when you're going to be playing the next year. I just think that's such a cool thing to look forward to do the other. It and she was denied it last year. Obviously because the tournament didn't happen and to be denied it again. i just. It's just a massive. You know what we should do. We should have asked party win the title this year and then let's actual and she would. Yeah you've you've really just took heartstrings. Strings attire ashburn. He was asked about this in her press conference and she said exactly what you said. It is a great honour but sim she goes. Symo- has earned that. She should be. Yeah totally end look. It's it's fallen very well. That it's ash bharti diversities call us whereas navarro who got such a rough deal. I thought at the french open when when she was put on in front of basically no crowd last time playing garrels. If this is a loss would match. It's it's a great match the have absolutely yeah. It was really. It was a great ashburn. Press conference yesterday was she. She seems more at ease than i think. I've seen her in a press conference before her i. She's never rude she's just usually stoic and and really flat batting things away and not really engaging this time she really was engaging me she told us lovely story about how she'd come with the outfit that she's going to wear this wimbledon which is the fiftieth anniversary of the van gongs first tightly nineteen Seventy one and she has had a a an outfit designed in in its honor and it's very similar and it's it's really cool and you could see face light up. Because she idolizes avendano. We talked about that in a tense relived addition about evonne goolagong. Few months back but yes she just. It appears that the injury is not causing any concerns. Now because of course you had to pull out of the friendship muslim. She got hurt and she doesn't seem worried about that anymore. I asked her about what her favorite surface is given that. She's won the french open that she's had success on hardcourts and yet she's always taught so funny back grass and she just goes all of them. I'm great line. Yeah and that. I think is one of her biggest strengths adaptability. She's got a game which translates. She can adapt within a match as well. I think I really hope she is passed that injury. She said rehab had been quite slow immediately after paris. And she hasn't played any any tournaments. Wasn't she had a back problem. Hip wasn't it. And i think she said that she never had it before. And it sort of just happened in in practice. One day an acute episode acute. Yes i think. Those are the exact words. And and i think her physio hadn't seen it before it was it was it was quite concerning. I remember thinking at the time. So i hope she's okay. She's not played a woman event. Which makes me down to the little bit But she's absolutely got the game to win this tournament. She's in the same. Half as serena williams who. I can see much because i have your door sheet in front of me. You have put into your quarterfinals. You haven't gone beyond the quarter-finals on this sheet. Who's got her. I'm assuming david evolves they go in the quarters nice serena oh sorry serena yes i have. Yeah oh serena gone all away. The final beating off the semi. The last time serena played wimbledon and didn't reach the final was twenty fourteen. Oh my which how many times she played it in that period full so the last four times she's played wimbledon. She reached the final and say to the curb and losses. Patrick bits of a beating in the final and then somebody told me that picture of his for coming back from an ankle problem science. Well miffed light is not bad enough that she didn't reach the final in bad homburg. Wherever that is your beaten by angelique kerber. Yeah who is. In serena's section if she'd been good hamburg absolutely belting sadr match is angelique. Kerber and serena williams. Final here about it. It's been two finals in in the last five years hasn't it. They match up. Brilliantly cobra is one of my favorite matches. I i'm just so persuaded by serena's record at wimbledon and they've been a couple of tournaments in these last few years where she's not played that well let me yet. She still made it through to the twenty four year man they you'll cooling a woman with an ankle injury to feature in the final. I think i've said in the post that. I didn't think i would be predicting serena to win another slam but but i think i am little smile on his face. I think i'm releasing face. Yes you'd go her hair seeming these you've written. It's very light. There's a real lack of commitment. I we'd say was on leave. Goals are serena and mukhuvele quite good about. Yeah okay. I i had a dream about muka for being in the final The other day but it was just a dream. sorry caroline So you you've got three to beating bossy. I think i probably do yes. Yeah he through your predictions making them foam. You welcome am. I'm just going to throw some names out there and you can tell me whether you think they're going to do with things win it. We've already covered patrick ver- and her doja yankel kenan. She's in a great section. I remember thinking she's in a really open section of the draw. But i think the same applies for all the places she's with. I think they will be looking at kenyon thinking. She's she's probably vulnerable. Here got anywhere. No the i'll do that quarter you haven't even put lighting in because it's available safiya. I think fee to persuade. I think madison keys might be in increasingly. Ought to be this straw skills. She should be. But i will never get out of my mind watching her least of kenyan dana in the fourth round. Few years ago when she was at a peak got quarters of every slam she. Yeah yeah no every time. She's yeah she's in her own wiping. Oh she's been consistent slams but not recently underwhelmed by her achievements relatively relative to her talent and it it's it's unreal sun and the times for her the not looking at her name in that section going keys quarters. I've got her in there right. But i would say that that was a should. That's probably the last section that i completed. is really could mattel her martin's. He doesn't love the gross at any of about books after the french. Kenan danielle collins. It's yeah it's extremely open a. You've got meg aretha in the quarter below that who is a total quantity fitness wise. If she's fit her she's got about twelve plays wasn't section. would we think of arena salamanca. I think harrods. Monica lasco's goes a match that i'm gonna find a way to watch because magin it four hundred slices again. He's qualified nicholas key. Says she's played itself into some form. Saab lincoln has any kind of friendship and hangover. Nicolas could just drive her to destruction mental. Yeah i think. I linka win that..

Monica Kerber Nicolas kenyan dana last year next year Kenan danielle collins angelique kerber Patrick harrods yesterday serena williams caroline fourth round serena first match this year doja yankel kenan fiftieth anniversary twenty fourteen

"Yeah and leaders agree kevin. Anderson could be second de vich. Volcano would be interesting. Said around if that happened. I don't know what it feels. Like on grass champion. All right here. But of course he is yet. I icon inaction him. Getting close to joe mitch yet. I think he's a great draw for djokovic thinks looking through this draw i mean i think i ended up with yannick sinner as his quarter-final opponents and we saw sin lose the first match the entire queens tournament the other week to to draper. He's so it's not form he said green on it things just so used to it i think he said he'd spend fifteen days on gross in his life before queen. I mean that's that's tournament. Yes i would is. Denial medvedev straw like david. He has just won the title in yorker. He always used to say that. Gross was favors. Earth is a tough first. Round or gen. Lianne leonard strove in the first and that was the last thing to come out the draw. Wasn't that time. An anti sort of who and i didn't strove just i think he just beat medvedev in halla. Oh that is not a good draw. Then medvedev won the title of the yeah over. Five sets medvedev probably so seeming currently with second round chile third round Dimitrov who in the fourth round and then quarter-final opponent most likely going to be federal. Okay i would love to see that. Dr would be feel like we haven't seen fedor medvedev since medvedev's become a real force. I think i think medvedev can cause veterans for for reasons to why jock itch. Does i think i'm going to end up. Predicting that to happen. Thinks a bertini though. Loosening is white through all the way into the final. What's his light. He has got pallor first-round. Then he's got vanish. Look up on undesired to watch says Patrick unsual right yeah Barat mutate better navy's role in section. This is a good janis. Ner could be his third-round opponent for bertini which might might be tricky for him Casper rude aslam corrosive fourth-round slightly and then in his courter it's supposed to be very it is seen night. She against him in the is there anyone else. In the men's draw the is is worth highlighting either. A seed that is has a badge jordan his liable to lose or a floater. That that catches your. I mean sit surpass. We haven't talked about sitter pass while we in quantity. We're we're talking about this. We were wondering whether that should be one of predictions in our newsletter for tonight's low stroke tomorrow morning where we pick upset in the first four rounds of the tournament. Is that enough. Say is that realistic as a possibility. I think we all consider that and we all well. I ended up thinking well. No i think it's Yeah same. I think i think if he is going to be vulnerable to pass. It likely is going to be in the first couple of rounds. He's he's not had any matches on grass for two years. And as you said tiafoe is a is a tough opponent. I thought he played quite well at queens. But i just i just have faith in sit surpassed such a good year. He doesn't have that many bad results anymore. So after back and just think the whole thing about the menstrual. The women's draw. The i mean the whole tournament missing a of especially surface like grass makes it so hard to know how How well these players who have really blossomed since the last wimbledon are gonna do grass. You know correct women's store. I think more grand slam champions. Who i genuinely. Don't know how they play on girls radio of which the couple of matches in eastbourne but yet because we rave about them so much and yet i was looking when we were doing the picks today. I'm looking and rescues section. And i'm thinking when did i last not have and rescuing a front grand slam if she's in the drawer i can't think of one and yet in the end i went with somebody i think. He's just probably more suited to the surface but her and shannon tech. I feel in years to come will probably be at a win this thing but the moment i kana mentioned that because it. It's i feel like. I've appreciated the the intricacies of the surface a bit more in the last few weeks because it's been such a long time since we've seen it. You see how uncomfortable certain plaza are moving on it and what they do with the ball. And i think with undress goo since miami. She's not actually been able to show up at a tournament without any form and go deep in it. I mean that was one of her trademarks more recently. She's or. she lost first round at roland garros. She took a loss on the grass. Didn't she it was harder to justify picking and rescue without any form than it did even human. I think it's about confidence in her body as much as it is almost than it is full. Might think think she's nervous about her her body and it will take a lot of matches. I think it will take a bit of a grind for her to let go without stress. And why wouldn't she was about her body repeatedly letting her and us down that section she's just rammed with people of not as a rancor is potential for trying to ponant An controversy it could be as a continent in the third round. There is cass akina. there's ostapenko just won a title. He's happening she's happening. I'm when she happened. She wins grand slam but would you back her. Not to back it up. That's the thing. I ended up going with the player that she beats in. He was eastbound. concentrate. Now i've got for kazakina. Oh right to be another course. I'm always want kazakina flagwaver. But i'm also i can't get out of my head watching what kazakina did to rush party on grass at wimbledon about three years ago seeing somebody beat bharti around game was something running on seen before it is that not also a problem with players winning title the week before a slam. I always struggle with that. When i'm making prediction because logically. You should think that's the player. I'm gonna pay their in great form but actually it can often go the other way and sometimes well that matches in different conditions. Have maybe peaked too soon. How do you back out. Alex domino one in east born yesterday. That was the men's final was played. Second it was on late afternoon. He's i think playing not before five pm match on day. One tomorrow nathan and the lost time. He won a tournament on the eve of islam with sydney Before was it the twenty twenty australian open not one thousand nine hundred eighteen Ended up having to withdraw hudson. The it's it's. It's a poisoned chalice. Guys back to jakovich doing it recently in belgrade and when we were concerned that wasn't the standard preparation for grand slam. The ended up winning the franchise. Yes i'm but i. But i do agree with you at this tournament with. The amount of tennis. Have all played french. Open everything else to come to wimbledon. The some of these plays. It feels a bit frantic. So especially the ones who've had to fly in you know it's it's a lot all at once. You and you see the other players are spending a good five six days just acclimatizing getting used to it. Enjoying all aubergine. Getting used to so. I'm not gonna go your favorite player. Favorite play jinking. She's not jane. Yeah and and i see these players particularly today because it was so quiet at wimbledon..

"A came the sudden shied egg. The pups are now open. I feel like it's a pretty good time to be the uk. I've got a smile on my face and the klay season is in full swing. Monte-carlo done and dusted. We had the final yesterday. Cisa pass rube love which was a bit of a shock. And i feel like from your side. It's gonna be mixed emotions here because you are the number one rafa fan and i mean rougher monte-carlo the normally go hand-in-hand but in two thousand twenty one it just it just wasn't meant to be. Yeah i was them all. Hey hoping joe to be out in the garden this weekend with a celebration region tone axle rappers next monte-carlo title but it was be friday evening. you know. I'm not weakened eight. It was a big shock. Maybe i went into a bit arrogant thing. He all has got the bloodstream playing well but surely rufford belly lost a game up to that point but Yeah it was to be on. My favorite. sports was lewis. Hamilton did not win the race. I wasn't the best sporting weekend in history for me. It was still. It was still good and we had a an interesting tournament. We had a new winner at steph. Sits pass his first. Masters title I greek player to win a mouse. Titles as making history for his country and all in all he had a really fantastic tournament. Didn't drop a single set his sixth career title. I guess his his second biggest Win after winning the atp finals in two thousand nineteen and he's number one in the atp race now he is the man of twenty twenty one. I suppose at the moment overall. If you think about it like that yes steph. Cisa pass very very accomplished performance in the final against live very emphatic. Well i think a lot of people getting funnel potentially thinking it was going to get three sets the head to head record. I think was three will going into it. So you know they probably both know each games Very well opt for the juniors and then playing each other on the cape. I think cisa pass really showed that he was really a home. He is really a home. I think on a clay core. And as i think one of the he's going to be one of the players to be. I think the very long garrison looking to say he's the he's the favor. Of course. nadal is the i think we could say wyoming favorite by fink. Cicip are certainly is going to be one of the potential challenges to his crown because he just he just looks really really solid at the moment he we'll have to see how the rest of the woma events guy. Yeah he was really on it. And i think he has a lot more variety than rip and when he's playing well playing confidently new like he was this week. It just made look a bit more one dimension which we i think we have touched upon before and i mean six packs when he goes i serve in this of no hate for replied freely. Yeah it was very common behind his serves. It's bess wills. and yes. it's ready I was expecting it to be a lot closer but it. We saw in just over an hour with you and why i love. They joel is the fact that his mom one at monte carlo back in the day they had a junior event for women on his mom yulia. Saudi keva was a winner. They nineteen eighty-one so it's running in the family. I think that was a very fast. Li emotional and special moment for sits specimen we know how kind of moisture he does get so i think it would be yeah. It was really nice to see that full him. You know the end in the in the ceremony. I think it was definitely a motivation for him. I think he said connor going. It wasn't really on his radar to be to be in with the sausage but when he got to the semi finals i think that did drive him a little bit and it was quite quite unique piece of history isn't it and it's quite cool. Thing to say key sort of said like mother like son and is quite nice. The bay now won the. Yeah the owners border the monte carlo and yeah it's it's really really impressive from him and i think that match against re beverly kind of show. You'd i think the the difference. I think came in level. There is still between andrew blake who is a very consistent player. We've we've seen his kind of performances at the five hundred level. But he's still. I still think he's still much very much developing and he is still a bit one dimensional and i think when he comes up against someone who has that variety like assistant pass. You has multiple dimensions to his guy. He's just getting. he's getting beaten each time. And i think that's the thing that he will need to address because if his if it's a game isn't working against his opponent it doesn't feel like he's got another another option at the moment. Yeah i mean we're has got a number of wins over. Its past but i think when this process really owner and when it comes to like these the deep end of of top top tournaments that's where it shows and it's a bit lacking for replenishing i suppose they after the quarter-final against rafeh he must have been flying high with confidence because oversee defeating the king of clay on the monte-carlo core like he just rip left going into i think i think before we were recording. Joey said the ripple ever taken a wildcard into bus lane and because he achieved that he was released rafeh so he was like yeah. Okay play ball. Saying i'm gonna lose it a night. That was and it was. Yeah it was already. We'd really ways match. Braford did not play well. He served abysmal I tell you. I think he about seven double food and i think the that he's most amount of votes in a in a match ever was eight so he was raised his worst ever serving performance in a match ever since time began. I don't think i've seen the dow play that badly that sets and a half. I was sort of a minor miracle. He won that second set. In my case it was It was very very very subdued You know. I didn't know if he was affected by the fact crowd. That but it certainly felt like a bit of a shock. Because you know going into that match he had one. You know one two against double anyone. One one against dimitrov see felt like he was just so steamrolling his way through to the final rebe that had had other plans on his mind. And even so you throw that third-set thought the momentum was going to shift and maybe not. I was going to run away with it but reuben. I've really really didn't let that second. Set blip phase him and was able to come to come through but it was. Certainly i think a surprise to me that third set that he wasn't able to to go on and win it like the champion that he is. Yeah i was expecting third-set be a definite lot closer but first back to how it had been most of the match and it was just run. A four games at the end of the second set when referee couldn't hit the goal. My hopes up. But i'll be offset i was glad. The referee didn't get thrash because it looked at one point. He was gonna lose. You know sixty six wild. And i thought oh my lord like that's really bad but i was just thinking. Oh just extend the match pay more match practice. That's what we need right now. But yeah i know but wait what was going on but is better. That happens now than at roland. Garros and i know we have seen it. Before ref hasn't won every single clay will prevent any still rolling. Garo i think reference to like panic because we have calling seen this before but perhaps not solve the stand the low standard. The referee playing that was perhaps the thing that sticks up a bit more compared to previous times. This has happened. Just re bevis. Well i mean he had come through well against batista in a pretty lengthy match before that as well so he might have been a bit tired when he got to that final because he did really have a really hot joel..

Roger Federer's back, briefly

"Hello folks woke until mid week tennis. Podcast a podcast. That was very nearly recorded on wednesday evening. Following roger federer's first much back after fourteen month hiatus at three win over. Brit dan evans. How different might that. Podcast have sounded. Had it been recorded yesterday versus being recorded now of to his three-set loss to nikoloz bassett villi. That is the punchy question that i put to you. David law and matt. Roberts whoever wants to take it. I think i should say that. It's because of matt. Roberts said we're recording it now and not if i had my way which was last night because i was a bit ivory excited to just get chatted. We've been so overexcited that it would now be out of date. How how different need. I think what i'm getting at is different. Do we feel about wherever resort. And what he's capable of off the two matches than we did after one arm in a similar place but matt watched both matches more closely. So i'm going to defer to matt. Hospital pass might enjoy. I think yesterday we would have been extremely positive about federer. And i think today we probably should still be positive about federal because federer is being positive about federal and i think we should take him at his word and agree that this has been a good week for him. He gained the matches that he wanted. He felt pretty good on the court. Arise maybe didn't always align with that viewpoint today There was there was a moment in his match today where his movement did really stop almost altogether and it was quite difficult to watch at times. But i think that's a difficult thing to do to have tempered. Expectations of roger federer. But it's absolutely what we need to have and he's upbeat. He said he's already over. It flew into his press conference after the loss. Today said he's over. It is positive generally and therefore i think we probably should be as well but we certainly have a lot more data to go on now that we've seen him play this match as opposed to just one match against evans because they two totally different matches for him and we'll talk about both of them he. He was asked Today as he said my in that very immediate post loss press conference i how. How long will this take to get over this loss. Read compared to previous losses similar level tournaments similar. Sages at already over. It sounding like you know when you've been broken up with an ally. I'm completely fine. I'm completely fine. he was. He wasn't right for me anyway. I never wanted to win this tournament. It wasn't it wasn't dubai is going to be better in dubai but and yet it also as you say. We should believe him me. You know what. I d believe him i he. We should probably feel fine about it could kiss. He feels fine about it. David yeah a. I would say that occasionally impress coinc- he said everything's fine and then isn't fine line a back problem or something like that. But i thought when he came out yesterday and play his match against down evans that he started off playing very carefully moving very carefully. He wasn't explosive he was he was balanced. He was good. He looked serene the way often does and he was striking the ball very well but i just felt like he was inevitably be very careful. And that changes. The match tone in evans pushed him in. They played they played good close competitive match But and at the end federal showing some real explosive tennis in some and he was getting Any any finished with a winning. So i thought that was really really good but there was a euphoria about him yesterday. Which was all build apple. High pulled a chats. He was excited. Because he's he's like a little kid in a sweetshop isn't even. He's playing tennis and when the is on him he loves it. He loves it. He's always has but today. I mean i didn't see all of the match because i was watching. Arena against gubbay mcgruder. And i left federal watch to you both but then when that finished i turned over and i was less alarmed than i thought i would be given what i was reading on twitter. And what what i was just hearing generally because i think he was fife on down listening in the second set maybe even lose that set six one zero six to eight yeah and it was definitely the latter stages if that second set would definitely sort of hidden hope connor by a around about that time. I did actually have a little chat. we don evans on. What's up. 'cause he was watching the match he was watching the match back and he said of course he's of course he's naked and we play hard much the night before and he's he's any she referenced the kind of all of the check before the match and before the tournament ties you out and you hit you hit a bit of a wall in and it's not really surprising. "Happy new year to everyone. That's listening to us from tomorrow onwards. Hurry it's not twenty twenty anymore. It's another rubbish year north. At the moment it is the trajectory is upwards with twenty twenty. The trajectory was downwards. And that's that's not very good. I mean unless you started off the with a crippling eye infection but But it's fine. He's gonna stole it off on a on a sinking low and then begin to climb to high heights but that will will get the redoing podcast as well so that just partially mitigates the sinking lows of the so the air. And i'm just not having any more pessimism. Because i can't take it no it it. It's k acquired a puppy now so i'm all of 'em all about the optimism rock and i can do lockdown. Now how you happy new year quite recording this year's eve but you may well be listening to it in the year. Twenty twenty one from the future. Remember policy that we censor. Everyone's big plans for tonight sleeping. I was. I was concerned when david said he's he's had enough of pessimism and he's talking to us. That concerns me. Yeah need to be more optimistic of optimism for the three of us were. He's he certainly does fakes. Big big plans for tonight. David young kids. They're going to start until ten. I'm going to start until ten seventy. We're gonna rock it yet for anybody outside of the uk listening to this. We also i mean even if we were big time years people that would be nowhere frisco and nothing for today because everything's closed not allowed to see anyone. It's the new year scrooges dream actually. This is the first year is that. I have to justify or explain myself for not wanting to go clubbing on easy. Ironically this is the one year actually do want to go clubbing. Time my life. I would give anything to go clubbing. And i've literally never felt that way before you even close to it interesting to see what would happen if you could sort of exchange the to feelings. With respective years that they would align more health it would have helped me out of some witty dia situations in the past new year's relived it sir. It's well actually. Should we cover it. Should we cover off our tiny we morsels of if news before we get going with with. I know you're chomping at the bit david for at grow and we will get there very soon because there's not an awful lot of news. What we've got is that andy. Murray is now no longer. Playing the event of the year in doe ray beach. I think he could tell if marie actions when we reported that he he was down to play we were. We were pretty surprised by that Perhaps perhaps not so surprised that he's no longer down to play. We understand courtesy of elena crooks from pa that the association that is the. It's not it's not a fitness related withdrawal. We didn't know anything anything further. I assume something covert and travel related. But it's not a fitness relates to put out some some quotes to that effect now And and just the given the increase in covid rates in the transatlantic flights involved. I want to minimize the risks ahead of the australian open Which does tally with. What dan evans told me a few days ago and he pulled out earlier this week he was also gonna go to dell at one point but he just said this does The rules about getting into australia and getting into the australian open which he felt that delray beach could potentially compromise and and if he would have picked up the virus that he may have a real problem and he felt that the chances of getting that much higher so on the bounce of it all he would stay in the uk. Practice get ready and then flats by on the fifteenth of january. So and. i think that's what he's gonna do and they are going to do one of these little prentice bubbles between them. Yeah as i understand it. They're all there were three locations. Were tennis australia. Were laying on charter flights to into melbourne One of them is certainly dubai. Believe the us sworn is in la so to play delray beach. It wouldn't just be a matter of getting delray beach implying that you then have a an internal. Us flight ahead of you as well which surely makes it even less. Enticing prospects say That's that we live. News we will say Got news the ashpalt and brady ought to play doubles together in the australian open getting. Does that reignited. You'll brady fire david hers. It's best aside reignited. It's just been smoldering along. Evison thinking of unknown stolen. Very i i. I do hope that there's more of this though for the australian open if we could if we're moving the dates as they have in. It's going back three weeks and everything is thrown up in the way it is one nice little bonus would be some doubles teams just emerged out of singles plas- that you wouldn't normally gas and you could just just half an extra to the tournament so and i think that that's already a big one I can see the express online headline now. David law fire for jennifer brady continues to smolder

"And i think we could go on forever with dan evans to talk about qiming. He has daughters jason and he he gets it he gets exactly how monumental this is an super cool to hear some of the personal stories to okay. Here we go jason You have predictions are tradition and the draft is coming up on wednesday. I'm going to say the bulls are either gonna take ball or trade up data. I think that there's only one generational talent in this drafting still no-balls need a playmaker of the both need to actually win and drop in the first time in forever. So i think the bulls are gonna get lamelo ball somehow someway with artur services a new general manager or vice president best operations. That is taking the bulls. Ready to make a splash. And i'm gonna just throw in a little caveat there that we are taping this on monday. The day that kim ing was introduced by the miami marlins so few days before the draft. And if you're listening to this episode after the draft go ahead okay Then my second prediction. We are off the heels of notre dame pulling off an incredible upset against clinton A little over a week ago. So i'm going to say that both notre dame and cleanse make the cows football playoff. I think the fighting irish went out up until the championship club. Trevor lawrence back trevor lawrence and the tiger. You're gonna wind up dan but it won't matter. Both teams will make the playoffs. It'll be great a lot of fun By final prediction is today. Like you said it's monday The ncaa out today that the ncaa tournament will be held in these same city. All every single round will be held in indianapolis where it's likely i'm just gonna say right now. I don't think that we make it all the way to january Three of any error. Allot of preachy. A lot of free concerts play tournaments already been scratched due to covid so. I think that there's some sort of issue whether the nc double. I takes a two week break or they scratch a lot more. Non conference tournaments I just think that we're in for a really rough and into the college basketball she. That's production rough beginning to college basketball season. I hope that everything just because we got out of the tournament thought I just don't think she's hey. By the way you sound so much better. And i want to let our listeners know when we were recording one of our earlier episodes You were really under the weather and we didn't talk about it on the air but we were concerned But you were not Covert positive. So i was not. Yeah i think had. Which certainly isn't pleasant but i always go negative been sanitizing. Wash my hands wearing a mask. That's why i was kinda caught off guard by the fact that i was sick is You can never take too many precautions but at the same time. I think it just goes to show that everyone needs to be a little extra careful because you can be like me and wipe out seemingly every single risk and you come down like on my desk bad for day so This everybody keeps getting careful. I'm lucky that i think Kovin gonna continue to take cautions and ruined sir. Okay let me give my final thoughts because this is a big show topic for me. So i'm just been balancing since the news this week. All it takes is one. One woman. One woman doctor, one woman dentist, one woman police officer, one woman vice president, one woman baseball executive, one woman sportscaster . That's all it took for me 40 years ago to know that that's what I wanted to be a sports caster. Not a female sportscaster. Like Dan Evans was saying, just a sports caster. All I needed was to see Gayle Gardner doing it on Espn to know that I had something in my future. That I would love to do. And now Kim Ng, Kamala Harris and so many other women in everyday careers who don't get the notice right now. All of you will have an opportunity to influence girls everywhere because all it takes is one. One person to stand up against the norm one person to go against the practices. Just because it's always been that way one person to be strong enough to force change when people ask why it took Kim Ng so long to get a general manager job in baseball when she has been qualified for 20 years. It's because all it took was one team owner or president to force the change that can be set in any arena where women don't get the board positions, the jobs, the rights as their male counterparts. Don't wait for the next generation to do it because you think well they'll take care of it. It'll be a natural fit it's inevitable. Many of us waited decades for the inevitable and it really didn't come. Remember in 1923 the equal rights amendment was first introduced and it took nearly 50 years, 1972 before it was actually passed. That's an entire generation of women, a lifetime, and another nearly 50 years before a woman vice president, a woman general manager in baseball. Seriously. See what I'm saying. It's been almost one hundred years since we started talking about equal Change rights. is not inevitable. It can take that long if you let it. Don't just go with the consensus, as Martin. Luther King said you can mold that consensus. Don't take the safe way out, do the right thing and be the one who stands up and forces that change now. You could do it for your daughter your granddaughter. Your wife your sister. Don't wait for someone else because tomorrow does not promise anything. And with that being said jason our thanks go to dan evans. You can follow him on. Twitter at dan evans one zero eight. He's also unlinked in and check out his evans baseball consulting group as well radio network found an apple. Podcasts google podcasts. "Greatest challenge is going to be a difficult one in the game which is teasing which is quite good and taking it to the next level. Never an easy task simply because expectations are already high I told her the other day and attacks they said you know the great thing. Is you get it that when all of this. Pr and all this press is over. The goal is to win and the job is to put a competitive team on the field. She gets that. She's had high expectations for herself and today's she started working with me and chicago with the white sox thirty years ago. she's gonna. She knows that she's got the pressure of being of the marlins gm also the pressure of being the first woman. But i think what she understands. More than anything. peggy is. She's being handed. Or real good franchise a team that is on the upswing. That's fun team to inherit and it's an even more funding to take it to the next step. You spoke about giving her her first arbitration case when she was with the white sox. What were you crazy putting her in the same room with scott. Boris how did that go. I got to hear the story about how that went when scott. Boris realizes that he is going to be negotiating with kim. Well peggy we really only club in baseball doing it's herb attrition cases and i was always presenting and rebounding and we just felt that we had a really formidable opponent. I think the is scott. He's a really good friend. in our organization had actually beaten scott four or five times in our in our hearings. I don't think we had lost. We were trying to come up with the best way of going into the case and we decided the best way would be instead of me presenting. It have kim presented. She and i were doing all the prep work. Anyway so we both knew it. And then i would do the rebuttal. And it would allow me to use the period that she was presenting to be prepared for the rebuttal phase Reversed new alex. Well i i love alexy's terrific guy and we knew scott was going to be doing a really great job in the other side. The most fun thing about that was there. Were three arbitrators three-person panel front of the room. One of them happened to be a woman and everyone expected me to get up and begin the presentation. We decided we weren't going to tell anybody. Because the surprise element we thought would help her They wouldn't be prepared to try to do things to her and you know you know. Stir her uncle little that so she stood up and she started to speak and The look on the face of the three arbitrators was awesome. It was a great them. See this you know at the time. She's probably twenty six twenty seven years old for her to stand up and begin presenting case and flawless job. Wow and to on the other side of the table. The the major league players association officials Scott alex to see kim stand up it was it was an amazing day and as i told her during a break after i after the case i said listen regardless wonder law you don't realize it. There's an entire generation of young right now. No longer down the concerns about a barrier. So we prevailed in the case. And i'm thrilled. I was absolutely thrilled. Most robes for is that she got the opportunity and did something with it. I mean you know a lot of times. People have opportunities and they fail. Yeah and then. It's really hard time after time after that. Just because you don't have the success ratio than people like to point here bro. And she won. I loved it. Because i mean not only had she arrived and i also knew that our organization was even more progressive. We didn't just have a terrific young woman on her staff but we also had a fabulous arbitration practitioner who happened to be a woman Who was the player that was being represented that scott boris represented. Alex fernandez added a real good one for us. Wow all right jason. The thing that i got the most out of that story was how she kinda commanded the room and spoke with authority. I'm a communications major in this semester. One of the biggest teams and all of my communications related classes is value one to one communication. So do you think that they're going to be any loose ends tied up with some of the players. Never really having to answer to a woman. Because i love the higher and i think it's great is the first offer higher of a woman in general manager position in any sport in america that there's going to be any disconnect there adjustments to be made or. Do you think this has what it takes to completely do away with any side effects of of that sort of change because while anybody can say it's not really going to matter it isn't adjustment for some people just for anybody who has that condition commanding respecting the room from the players. The field staff immediate people the most important initial steps that you make in that role. She's been in the clubhouse since the early nineties i made it a point to get her in there. We would just you know. Be very classy about it. And she commands respect because of who she is. She interacts now. She carries herself twenty. Four seven That's what i've had of mired. Most about her. And i think if anybody has a problem with her chain on them it's two thousand twenty I think anyone who views gender ethnicity race as an issues or really shallow human being. And if those people happened to be in the marlins clubhouse you know for me this is not you know the nineteen thirties. There's su- two thousand twenty. I think we've evolved enough as a society to recognize that when someone the caliber of derek. Jeter hands over the leadership role of the baseball team and that woman happens to be the most qualified candidate for the job. That's your boss now and if you don't feel that she is capable of being that person because her chromosomes are different and because she's asian living. You're not the person that you claim to be so anyone who's shallow. I feel for them in two thousand twenty. We've got vice president-elect commands there was an exceptional human being. And i think you know just the outpouring of respect from people in the sport is an indicator that perhaps this is not the time to be shallow person indirect absolutely. I completely agree on a more positive note on the same topic. Do you think that this is going to create sort of a domino effect with more women getting opportunities and leadership positions in sport. Whether it be in locker room. I know the. Nfl is a couple of coaches that are when india has a couple of people on the sideline that are female Do you think that's gonna create a domino effect or it's gonna be more of a wait and see set jason. I think the sports world is already evolving. There's assistant coaches and leaves onfield coaches in leagues. I think there's executives in decision making roles. I think this one happens to be big. Simply because of the fact that its groundbreaking. She leaves the organization. She's just not a contributor. There's a lot of pressure there. She's ready for it. But i think the great thing. Is you know. Your mom was one of the pioneers in chicago when it came to sports broadcasting and happened to be woman and i think for people like your mom. I think you see the world changing. Were far more respectful and aware that it can't be a boy's game anymore. It's time to let the best people in the room. And if they happen to be a woman so be it. But i think the great thing jason. She checks a lot boxes. She's an asian woman who didn't play in the big league. That was such a stigma. Twenty years ago. Oh you didn't play in the big lake. My gosh i heard it well now. I think young women wake up and they say there's somebody looks like me in that role and until today really until friday. No one ever saw anyone looking like them in that role. And it's fifty. One percent of the world's population now suddenly is asian american woman years. The general manager of the miami. Marlins i think that alone or give hope to not just young women. Asian american men. Suddenly we say wait a second. Here's somebody looks like me. I can be that person. And i think for that. Our society is better off today. I have said that for so many years that all it takes is one seeing one person that looks like you in an industry to say. Oh my gosh that's it. I'm going to do this. Okay i want to do this. And that's what it took for me indian. You're so right. The number of people that she is going to affect the in the future generations. This is personal for a lot of us. And i'm still getting emotional right now because it is that big of a deal. Can she handle it mean. Just that's a lot of pressure on one person's shoulders and we don't mean to make it a bigger mountain than it is but truly when they are in the decision making and the hiring and the firing that is when we have progress because they make decisions on who gets some of those jobs. Great clink peggy. I think first of all yes. Undeniably qualified has been qualified for probably about fifteen years I remember sitting in our pool in los angeles with our feet in the water and she had just been denied one of those opportunities and i said listen. Your time's gonna come. Whenever it comes you'll just be more ready more prepared pending the important thing. I think in this whole equation. Is that the right person is getting the first opportunity You know not to not. I don't wanna diminish what happened. Today i was pretty emotional. Watching her Take the stage and how well. She handled an hour of questions but the great thing about him is it's a collaborative effort. She's a leader. she's listener. She's a process oriented person. She won't wear this responsibility. Peggy as her against the world. She's gonna be a true leader and bring people together to make better decisions. She'll never be. You know the one out in front. Saying i me. I don't think those pronouns are used very much vocabulary and subsequently the people she works with a recognize that and you know that people in n- organizationto whether it's sports or business really respect people who take people's opinions into consideration and may get a collaborative event. Those people support those leaders because as a result you feel like you had your your chance to give your opinion to support your ideas to get into the facts. This is a very well versed anecdotally analytically oriented scouting oriented woman. Who happens to be extremely qualified very experienced. I think she's got a chance. It'd be a very very special person in the game. I love dan. I cannot thank you enough for joining us and giving us such great background information insight. Not only into why. She is so qualified but who the woman is behind the name. It's really really been wonderful talking to you and catching up. And i want to tell our listeners that you can follow dan evans on twitter at dan evans one zero eight. He's also on lincoln. You can check out his evans baseball consulting group. "In sports based off their appearance. I love it. Why do you think Has been a little bit more progressive than the other sports in the last couple of years. We've seen more hires on the baseball operations side of things and in the coaching arenas than we have in sports. Okay well when you look at football. Football is always going to be the last sport to come to the table when it comes to gender equality because there is no female or female league for football so football hardest sport to have leadership position in in general. Whether you be a man or woman when you have not played the game so that is that's going be the sort of football and basketball in the front office. I don't have an answer for that now. And who ching wise basketball of all or major sports in america basketball most prevalent when you need a player coach. The coach and the players need to be on the same page all times in basketball. You easiest way for coach and he fired the nba's when they lose the locker room. But that's why doc rivers is fire. That's i'm mark dantonio. He's fired because when you lose walker you lose. The locker room and the players will gravitate toward gaza. They can relate you. That's why more young coaches are being hired like Billy donovan billy donovan. His last in the nba because its players are to him. And that's a great hire for the ball That's why tyler retired. Because he was a players coach. Trill lebron and the cavs So the idea of a players coach in the nba is now not that. A woman cannot players coach but a lot of coaches in the nba because our connections current players whether they were teammates there other staff so on the coaching side. I think that it's going to be a little bit slower. The nfl has a couple of systems. That are women. I know that becky hammond was the top assistant on the spurs ju- seasons ago. So i don't know it's going to be a matter of time and this still need to play out It you don't wake up one day. And all of a sudden gender. Equality's president i'll sports takes years. It takes back so this is good first. Step don't think we can get to of ourselves but again like i said earlier. I'm for gender. Equality i'm all for Putting women in leadership positions other dean front offices on coaching staff during the dugout sideline. i love it so so him ings background. She started out with the white sox. She was an intern She had played softball at the university of chicago. And dan evans. Who has a baseball consultant was in the front office with the white sox he also went onto the dodgers giving him an internship with the socks and then hiring her again with the dodgers evans is available. I don't know jason. I think he'd be a great person. I talk to and get some more information about. Kim what do you think. Absolutely jason dan evans Has been mentoring class for sports management worldwide. On how to get into baseball super super popular as you can imagine. He also has evans baseball consulting working with field of dreams. And you'd baseball all over the country and lo and behold he's an old friend here from chicago and he was actually kind enough to pick up the phone and join us today. Good morning dan. How are you peggy. Hello jason good morning dan. This is an historic time for baseball. It's been an historic year. Actually for women. With kamala harris as the vice president elect. And now kim ing as the new general manager of the miami marlins and to think that you gave her her first start in baseball way back when that intern out of university of chicago. Tell me about it when she applied. I am sure there. You had to have hundreds of applications. And how did her stand out. And you truly son I really got a chance to hire twice. Which i'm really proud of. She's made me look as though i have pretty good skills in that area We are we interviewed over one hundred people for an internship. Position will move into the new ballpark and My favorite part of the story is when kim james for her interview Community chicago my then. Three months old daughter was sound asleep in my office in a great co. Play playpen. Because i just had no choice. I had to bring her to work that day so he couldn't do interview. She knocked on the door step again. The lights were down shades. Told and little sarah was sound asleep and i popped out. Just sit here with her And dan was her first interaction with me which. I still chuckle about She absolutely bliss away. The interview Made comments peggy about being an immediate contributer wasn't going to be Just another person she just said. I'll make you proud of hiring me. I'll make sure that i'm there to help you. In every way. Peggy her internship last two months. I hired a full time. Just because she was too darn good it would have been silly to let her go in an internship and chanted up working with me for seven years Developed an incredibly strong friendship. I think the world over and you know she never really worried about being the only woman in the in the room you know as you know as a woman who is breaking broken a lot of barriers in the sport in sports in general you know. It's it's awkward. it's A lot of people have stigmas. A lot of people aren't weren't supportive especially in the early nineties. Shits really good people. That were really supportive. We nick allowed it to become an issue as it wasn't issue for somebody. They were the one who left the room not her. Wow i you know you're you're right. There are awkward moments. You know baseball. Hey is an old boys network in so many ways that you know if you don't join the locker room talk and kind of go along with it then you're kinda not one of them. How how did you guys break that. Though you know guys can walk out of the room if they weren't comfortable but at what point did you guys have to set the table for the organization. Did it come from jerry reinsdorf. Or was it kim herself who kind of forced to others to accept her just by her example. Great question and and i think it's a two-party answer number one. I think it had to be evident that i supported her and i Considered her my right hand. Somebody who is going to be involved in everything once. I think people saw that. I trusted her in fight. Her really looked for her opinion in the room. I think ease things as an organization. We were very forward thinking We were doing analytics in the early eighties. And just didn't tell anybody we were doing things that you know just on. The surface appeared to be normal for us from jerry. Reinsdorf jack howard pies. You're down. We never worried about gender but peggy. It really comes down to the individual with hard work perseverance. Great interpersonal skills professional nature all the time. "Bruin and i am generation so typically jason nine. You know teenage years when we didn't get along but we always had one thing in common and that is talking sports. We've always found a common bond through sports and that is how we started our podcast. Just bridging the gap between our two generations so in this episode. I love this episode. I'm super excited to talk about it. We are going to talk about the historic hiring of kim ing as general manager of the florida. Marlins making history as the first-ever female general manager in major league baseball jason. We have talked about this last year when they had the all female broadcast for the nhl hockey game with the blackhawks and Saint louis the blues. And now i feel i remember you saying it's only a matter of time this is going to. I think it's going to speed up. We're going to start seeing a lot more of the glass ceiling being broken and shattered by women in sports. And here we go with kim ing an historic hiring by derek. Jeter and the marlins. I love this from everything. I have heard shoes overqualified. Most guys in her position would have already stopped applying for these jobs because she has been qualified for twenty years and yet she persisted and the timing was right with a former player that she actually covered as a member of the yankees staff. Derek jeeter giving her the opportunity now to make history. What do you think of the hiring well. First of all. I the first thing i thought about when i woke the news of her being hired brazil. And then you'd be very excited about it. I knew that there should be a topic on the podcast now. i have obviously been following major league baseball very closely for almost a decade now and just about any major general manager opening. I had heard her name floated. I remember the new york. Mets is one particular so this is only a matter of time and it was cool as it was to see. That woman has finally been hired in general manager position in pro sports. I wasn't surprised actually considering her. Because i see her name slowed so much now think that it is a fundamental move. I think that obviously like you said it breaks a glass ceiling. I think that we're gonna see more women in leadership positions just in general in sports. I don't think we're too far away from the first email coach head coach. That is in the nba. I think we'll see more female Executives in pro sports but need to see how this plays out. Because i think that what we need to be careful getting in the way of is since came in is the first ever woman general manager in pro sports. I don't think that it would be smart. And i know that this is the way sports works and people are gonna look at it like this. Where however she does as a general manager will be assessed as how a woman would do in general manager spot which is not correct at all. Every routine is going to have different cards that they will deal their general managers now. I just think that it's going to be interesting to see how she adapted to a leadership position where people are going to have to be answering her whereas in the patchy did more independent work. I remember reading up on her and one of her past jobs was she was the The one that put through all the transactions and major league baseball that's more of an independent job no decisions really need to be made. It's more like a copy case sort of thing and then obviously working in the commissioner's office. That's more leadership role. So i think that what would be more interesting to look at will be how you team as a whole adapt to having to answer to a woman not that it's a bad thing but it's certainly an unorthodox. Things especially in a male dominated professions. And you know what's interesting. Jason is that derek jeter is the face of this front office and typically your general manager does all whole lot a whole lot of representing the team publicly and qiming has traditionally been very quiet behind the scenes. Nobody doubts her skills her intelligence but what will be interesting. Is her people skills now going forward. I think a lot of people say that she is a very good communicator with the players and with the team but how will that come across. Publicly is going to be interesting as well. Well i think that is certainly a good thing that she is going to be. General manager of one of these smaller market teams because it seems like she excels when working in silent and not that being the general manager of the miami. Marlins is a smaller role. But if she were to be the general manager of the new york mats or one of the teams in chicago or la team should be so much more under the microscope and every ban moved to so more scrutinized so at least she has a little bit of a margin for error in miami compared to other general manager openings in recent memory But like you said answering to a woman is going to be Interesting i love it. I'm all for it. Shows a major league baseball as they kind of took a step back with their handling of all these social justice movements in the summer. I think that now they're taking a step forward with this so it'll just be very interesting field. They played obviously domino effect of more women being hired in front office positions in all sports. And as we talked about a couple of months. Back with broadcasting. I think that this is no exception. I think the more women will be hiring broadcasting just any role in sports because sports and you look at that is the most male dominated business in the country so to seeing women get a shot shot in a job that only thirty people in in the world have as a general manager of a major league baseball team. I love it. i'm all for it. I can't wait to see what comes of it. And i wish. Get the best for coming and the miami. Marlins think it's awesome did. Have you read any negative comments about it or is this one of those because because sometimes you had to do all you had to do is look at the comments section. That i've remains to grand post. There are always trolls on when you give them something like this They feed off the news like some of the comments are absolutely disgusting. It was like oh she also clean the locker room. Looks like they won't need to hire shaft like no the public backlash or something like this is always going to be happy especially from the internet trolls but generally for from forms people and people whose opinions actually matter. It's an eight calls higher. Yeah and i just hope that all the criticism. It is fairly criticize fair criticism. I used to say you know there was a a broadcaster in chicago. Sports caster who has since lost his job who used to be extremely critical of me and he would. He'd be critical me by my looks. He would be critical of me by my my appearance how. I talked who. I looked like usa. Say i looked like ruth buzzy. You don't know who that is. And jenner and ellen. Degeneres used to say that. I looked like her to and told his wife wants that. I don't really care if he criticizes that part of me. If he's fair about my work and what i bring to the table that i think that is where i want to see. People be fairly you know fair- in their criticisms you know like like it can't be about you know a her appearance or anything like that. It has to be about her ability to run the office of the morales period and and on in contrast to that. I think we also need to be careful of retracting criticism because she is asian american woman. General manager. I make the bed move a bad mood i agree. It's totally okay to criticize her. It's the same thing retired senior. Jed hoyer were to make a bad move. They when criticism is due. The criticism will come but like you said it is completely unfair to criticize her for appearance of her gender. Anything like that. Because we don't do that for any other general manager or executive

"Volunteer help whatever, you know dig Rubble, you know, and as it turned out they were like, I'm sure just make if you're in uniform you can do anything you want, you know, basically just show your ID and say what's going on and your TDY and yada yada and and we're like em, yeah r t y is no uniform and they're like, yeah, you're not getting and I was like no so we had absolutely nothing to do and you know, and so what we had to finish our class but and then it was just we're all of our flights are delayed. Lots of people are like disappearing and driving away. It sucked sucked. Yeah and 9:11 to remember. Yeah, and and my wife was freaking out because you know, all the phones were down and and they wanted to get a hold of me and off. I need to get a hold of them to let them know that I was okay and finally my unit got a hold of me in the hotel and like oh my God, hear your fine, Yeah, I call my wife tell her. I'm okay. So yeah. Wow so Wackadoo. Okay, so so moving on from 9:11 to nine eleven stories so long you started off as an infantryman, right? I did. Yeah. I was in the reserves. Okay, I decided to join the reserves actually in case I decided to change my mind about serving serving a mission for my church, which I didn't end up doing it didn't end up serving a church mission, but I went into the recruiting office while I was a reservist in two thousand and five I think and the supervisor of the recruiting office. It was a staff sergeant. He's like hey dead. How would you like to do this full-time? And I said well, you know, let me think about it gives me a call later on that day. It's like hey, you know, you should really think about this. I was I forgot to mention in really really good physical shape. I was a personal trainer, you know, so I was kind of like, you know, I don't want to sound arrogant but I was kind of like a poster boy Marine, you know, right? Right, right. Well I get in there and and I guess you know, they're trying to ramp up for the war and you had to look as they said I had to look right so, you know, long story short. I ended up doing it and get you know, that was really eye-opening for me. I realized a lot of things about myself at that point when I became an active duty recruiter. And that is I'm an introvert going up to people and talking to them all day long about the Marines, you know, especially people who you know, really I share no common interest with proved to be pretty pretty tough. I got married when I was twenty. Wow at night and my life would want to my new wife would want to talk and I was just sapped from yeah. Yeah heard it all day. Right? Right, right. So, you know that was challenging but I was able to learn some things about myself and I I failed for for a few months on recruiting Duty and the next Thing that I did was headed over to borders. They don't have borders anymore. But like a Barnes and Noble and I picked up a bunch of audio books and started listening to like Zig Ziglar and Dale Carnegie and home Napoleon Hill know those types of things. Wow. Yeah. Yeah, I started self-educating and and learning how to communicate better. And really I would say that that saved me you know that sure..

How did Andy Murray win that?

"Right Okay Day to the US Open. How on Earth did Andy Murray do that Catherine? He's just one from four, six, four, six, one, three down. How has he done that somebody explained to me Name Messing with the lewd tonight is the plum street in the deepened. Question isn't it? I mean what's going on? Well, they said to two women who we had to know primarily a CEO Tim. If you had to attribute that combat come back to one thing and one thing I think we're on a time limit. What would it be and he said halt. I think I mean obviously, that is that that is a word that covers a broad spectrum of things all of them are. Totally embodied by Andy Murray persistence to nasty doggedness stopping this. But obselete hot is what got him through a very bizarre tennis match today I mean I'm sure in the annals of time we remember the witness of if the match that will suitable fade away and we'll remember the school line in the emotion whatever ends up coming in the aftermath, but it was a It was a rookie right of a tennis match for for a long time. someone on twitter said that there was once a racehorse who died and when they cut the race open they realized he had a heart that was bigger than any other race horse in history and that feels like the kind of thing that might happen with Andy. Murray one day. That's a morbid take on them on a very joyous occasion for Andy. Murray. But it is one of those things isn't it? Because we think of Mary is so relatable and yet. On occasion like this, we I genuinely have no idea how he does something like that. It's it's thrilling to watch but I, come explain it. He operates on a different level of guts and defend defiance and resilient to what I'm capable of even imagining. In the you say that was a bit move it but didn't the encore interview immediately off the match the first question was Andy. We buried at the Australian Open last year and yet he He was just an alternate set of on the sports accidental turn of phrase unfortunately most well, we'll maybe fortunately a lot of these faces obscured by a mask, but I would quite like to have seen his full facial reaction to the declaration that he'd been buried the tennis community. Hopefully hopefully, we're looking at about fifty years down the road a sixty or something like that for. To have this. This forensic analysis. David Lewis let's get out of this. Yeah. Let's do that. Tell you what I think. We have just a bit of history in order so that we know exactly where we are with the Sandy Murry story. This is a man that was supposed to retire twenty months ago and. He didn't he went and had a hip surgery he went and had a new metal, hip. He then made a comeback and the combat went really well, and he won't doubles clean said he played mixed doubles with Serena Williams, at Wimbledon and then he went on won the singles title in Antwerp and it was just amazing and then he looked like he was hitting the buffet Z. looked like he was in real trouble when he had the complications and what was it called it the impingement of the joint with which which was think caused by sort of spare type thing on the hip and is causing all sorts of trouble didn't play the Australian Open this year I personally thought he was probably finished really at that point for. Twenty time. And slow behold he comes back place last week in Cincinnati Stroke New York has those two great wins over Varun Ti and then. Lost didn't look great against Manashe rich but comes into this match and a half to say I felt pretty sheep pretty. Confident on his behalf I thought he would. He would have struggle against a very good player world number forty, eight Yoshito Nishioka from Japan. He's twenty four years of age Manu beat Dan Evans. The Australian Open, this year, and who just has one of those really solid sprightly games left handed can hurt you but can also stay in rallies and for an hour and a half. He made Andy Murray. Look terrible Andy Maryland made himself look terrible and At that point I said on the radio and I know I said it on the radio because the BBC sport website copied and pasted my words into their text portal and I, got seventy four negative votes as a result of the words that I added which were Four six, four, six, one, three, headlined. He may not be able to do this anymore and I said this is one of the worst performances I've ever seen from Andy Murray to Grand Slam. He's got a metal hip, and he may not be able to do this anymore but looking at this having covered. So many of his matches I've never seen anything quite like it before past is not feeling very well, I, expected to see a fight tooth and nail his opponent is good and I thought he could cause problems but I expected it to be hyper competitive and Murray would win but it's not even close. And I stand by every single word that.

At least we'll be something for everybody to watch. But the the event itself in. Lexington am I right in thinking that that was Put. Together in about a month's yeah I believe four weeks. Was the time line. Say, John Saunders, the tournament director over there they had some from Octagon, the management company and they do or they haven't passed hosted a challenger event. Along which there were. Removals, vans and cement mixes and pickup trucks. Interrupting, interrupting the days tennis frequently. And it was all delightfully quaint and so apt somehow because tennis is more humble. Now upon its return in tennis players are having to be more humble and so it felt kind of really perfect that status his return I know we had Palermo last week in. Pro Pro concurrently, which is a more established tour van but to meet just felt really perfect that it was as as humbling as it was a setting. And even more perfect. "The show defending can't Novak Djokovic left shoulder appear to be just fine he was a straight set win over Dennis could lots right reach the open's fourth round for that twelfth appearance in a role is one thirty six of his past thirty seven grand slam matches he's pursuing a fourth title at the US open and seventeenth major trophy overall Roger Federer won in straights after dropping the opener in each of his first two matches this week the five time champ was a straight set win her over Daniel Evans and had this with regards to those who think he's has an edge with regards to the short turnaround in terms of a competitive advantage yes regardless of when he finished it was always going to be at a competitive advantage for me so there you have it now is it a big difference if it would play a twelve or two not really but I think at some stage every our met might matter we have these rules in place and tasty sixteen our rules form sent Mister finals nowadays because of that reason to you that you have maybe not enough time to physically recover but also mentally recover you know from the whole I want to get into the next round and tried to play Roger and and it's gonna be a big match and then you finally make it and then you gotta get up for action the maps that you maybe were looking forward to so I've been there I I know what you're talking about and yeah you could definitely argue that that's the scheduling was not in his favor but it's anyway not fair for me to play my match on the roof get it done sit back relax the next day while he's battling out a four hour or three hour match whatever it is against so the problem already starts there but I guess that's ten is the sense of entertainment and the show must go on and you know I've lost maybe matches to square one some this time luck was on my side and there you have it so yeah I understand they've done is like a little bit frustrated near the show goes on with Roger in a deal Medvedev and threw his racquet towards the chair up was penalized in boot the men's fifty still pulled out a four set win over Feliciano

We'll always obviously found a drugs staff so he's he's had he's had that a niece had a few others as well but he got himself on the straight narrow by just developing a routine that works for him in in conjunction with david felgate and something curious said after his previous match. Was you know i just i do wanna see if i can make something of my talents parents and and i i've just got myself a bit of a routine guy and i'm trying to have some good habits and i saw attorney. I've ever said had curious. I want to have some good habits. What a what a good way of of looking at it to compartmentalize down to just good habits rather than thinking of going to do this the other yeah because his he is he pointed out and we will trusting eddie he he he doesn't need a coach. I know that you know he. You can't have a coach because bozen admission. He wouldn't listen to him but realistically. What is it coach. Gonna tell him about playing tennis. I know it's it's sort of justifying these spectacular level of arrogance be sometimes see and hear from him but really why should he listen to somebody telling him wet hit a tennis ball his instincts no better than any coach where and how hit a tennis ball i think as as you said is he's tennis i._q. Is is second to none odd. I mean i'm not sure there's much anyone would do technique wise to him. So can you talk about mentality. Aren't you and i'm not sure there is a coach out there that can that can crack that nut but if you just boil it down to the very very pragmatic by routine and habits the maybe he can sort of crack the not himself and i'm not talking about weekend. We count not cracking. He ain't gonna do that but as you said starting to do what he did this week. Once or twice choice a year at mazda's level once or twice a year at grand slam level that does all we want is so we won't because how how many if what we've labeled the some of the best tennis matches at the over the last few years how many of them have involved net curious else you know curious nidal at wimbledon the me that was still my my favorite match. I think in the men's side even more so than the final senate. If i had to choose one to watch back back i would choose that much over over the men's final curious federal <hes> miami a couple of years ago. He's just you <hes> you know every match he played in acapulco so many of the best matches the most entertaining matches involve nicholson and that's why why we want him to do it more and i do. "He wasn't a player because of his own stupidity. Quite honestly. The only came back in April of last year and theory is already a hundred sixty in the world they'll be after this tournament playing on the Rod Laver Arena plane at that level. It is a remarkable turn of events for him. I did not see this coming at all. We did have David fell Gators coach contra box for few minutes. We had Leon Smith. And I said to lay on do you think he's learned his lesson and any I mean, I guess he would say, yes. But I I'm quite convinced that he has I don't see another massive derailing of the career of Dan Evans, again, personally, he knows how badly he messed up. He has himself to blame. I really don't see any. He's he's always going out of his way to not seek sympathy. You know, people want him to talk about his experience and we want the quote about. You know, how difficult he found it being away. And and you know, he didn't watch nape in Las Jacobs too hard firm. You want these quotes? He was fine. I've never seen him lose in the heat Sloan Stevens opens Reno correct clip that I've said it tomorrow Bush's Stevens his opponent, then it's Ashbury against Wang fan. Then Dan Evans against Roger Federer evening session is coverage had up Meyer. And then the Dow against Epton we've also got Katie Boulter plane tomorrow on the not Tyson's arena, the Melbourne arena after conservation against and that's a good match against oh. One watch that. And then it's Chile against Donald followed by Boulter against sampling. What do we think any chance for Katie Boulter? I don't think. "Republicans hate the environment bay love the environment but they also love freedom because they want to be on their orlando that so to me that's very fertile ground i would imagine that the pacific northwest is probably the perfect place to start using this as the incubator it is and some of the conservative leaders in washington state were pioneers for environmental progress nationally you've got former governor dan evans who created the department of the ecology which was what was the epa was founded after which is supposed to be a limited government but important agency that only stepped in when necessary it's gone far asas bounds but that's what he had done and he was a conservative a lot of the public land has been named after him be has all his contribution to conservation in the state you've got a lot of former senators and congressmen and women even some current ones who are leading on these issues from the republicans side because they realize they live on this land there in the mountains they're in the cascades or the olympics and they really care and i think that it's a different state for that and then if you take away seattle it's a very conservative state say that about a lot of states but in their big cities but in washington a lot of those mountainous rural areas that are constantly impacted by the environment or they live in the environment itself are conservative people who want to have leadership on this issue but just don't really know where to find it and only know like you said of the big government interactions that can happen and you've got the seattle mayor and the washington governor who claimed to care about the environment but nothing ever happens and i think a lot of people are sick of those things especially in washington where the environment matters.
