Battle brewing over COVID-19 testing requirements in New York City schools
"I've another cove. Nineteen protocol question for you. That has me confused. We're talking about the la edict that you can't walk now which still just doesn't make any sense to me. But here's one in new york city that I find even stranger. Here's your headline battle brewing over covid nineteen testing requirements in new york city schools. Now your call. That's been an ongoing battle They were shut down. Parents rebelled against the union rebelled against the mayor. Mayor started doing this or ouaga. And i believe they've already begun a backpedal. I don't know how extensive it is. But i believe they have but let me read a couple of sentences here you tell me how why this is. Why should not consider this as patently. Absurd as what we were talking about in los angeles city principals are set to clash with parents who have not submitted covid nineteen testing consent forms but still want their kids in class when schools reopened monday department of education stress students who lacked the document cannot participate in building instruction quote in order to come to school in person. Students need to have a consent form on file. There is no grace period for this rule. That's from department of education spokesperson telling talking to the new york post parents who oppose the in school testing format or refusing to submit the forms of threatening lawsuits. If their kids are barred from buildings there's a statement from a group name here called It's not that catchy. But it's parents supposed to mandatory testing well. There's no time to come up with catchy nicknames. Right now that's a good. Get your point out and go the decision by the mayor. And the e that's the department of education to force parents to consent to have their school age children tested for the covid virus as a condition of attending schools outrageous immoral and a violation of their constitutional rights. Now i'll leave the legal side of it to others whether there might be legal questions about the ability in public school to offer up these mandates. I'll just talk about it on a moral A standing i guess and say what is wrong about what is wrong. If you really are adamant about this step being taken that we need the kids back in school why would you be as fervently opposed to what one could say gives you the greatest chance. Why say you the collective you to have some success in putting the school back on on a regular basis. That makes no sense to me that to me. Is you want it both ways. You wanna scream about my rights and my kids. I've mike has a right to public school but on the other hand you have a right to tell me that we got to sign a consent form that if necessary. My kid will be willing to undertake a test. That will help the schools. Get a better handle on. What's going on there. How is that not nonsensical.

That works and then working deep into the night Just hanging out and we're gonna take full advantage of all that time. Common has bagged that we come in at two a couple of those days. I said i. I would not feel right. Depriving common of his magical on air. Chemistry with mark rosen. I wouldn't why what i want with. And rosen wouldn't want those doesn't want to miss that as to be deprived lives for val the common man mocking him ridiculing him calling him a fraud on a daily basis trying to catch him in blunders in mistakes boxing him in cetera. We're way to selfless to attempt to sort of insinuate ourselves into all of that that that would be that wouldn't be very team oriented and we're if we're anything here at the fan were a team. I think that's been proven we're a family over many many years of family as well Booth the caffeine dot com bradshaw and bryant. Inbox and many ideas are pouring in as we speak. We'll try to get too many of them. We appreciate your early input in today's show kevin seifert according to the borton. Volvo guest lineup is scheduled for three thirty today. Good timing on safer today. Because i think you just got off a conference call involving the national football league's commissioner. And what's his name. Nfl roger goodell. Let's roger goodell and a couple of interesting announcements cadel made we will discuss among other things with kevin seifert. Johnny athletic g. rated version of johnny athletic. He promises us. Today is scheduled for five fifteen three chances to win a grand in your hand. Thanks to wicks jewelers as well. That'll be coming up here first. Opportunity a little bit later in this segment. Can i ask you a real quick grammar or spelling quest. Yes So i'm trying to craft a tomorrow. It's always a very good speller i won. I won several spelling bees growing up. So if it's a fact versus effect something's going to affect somebody that's a that's a generally yes so if i say gatherings under ten is really going to affect the power trip morning show. That's a correct affect because it's going to be tough to figure out who they're going to allow a good point that's one of the changes to protocol. Yeah announced by the governor of the great state of minnesota. I think that's that presser still going. But i think he passed the baton on to one or two of his bobowski or minions to say in the business. We will get to some of those details. I don't think there were any wild curves beyond what had been anticipated that the governor was going to say a little bit more of a targeted effort to tighten things up as opposed to a more sweeping. Were shutting. It down again. Is that a fair. I overall of what was leaked earlier. Today yeah okay. The dials back. In some specific cases Undercooked with kirk cousins at six. Oh not bad undercooked under dalvin shadow with her cousins under fifteen pass test kirk cousins. Lost if you give me to laugh like good. It's under fifteen pretty well done. Yeah i mentioned off the top of the program that we are indeed your we. We really do want a street. Fight this time leader. What year was the infamous or famous. Mike tyson sound by that has been played to death and this station largely between three but elsewhere as well in which he talked about sizing up the the coming matchup with the monsters of the midway the chicago bears in chicago and he said well. Do we have it while. I gotta find it. I never played warned. You bring up cold. it's gonna take me. It's he basically said when you play the bears your streetfight and you gotta play it as if it's a street fight and you have to win it like it's a street fight etcetera etcetera. That's the whole the whole bit. And that goes back. A longtime vikings in arizona street from. That's the get ready for but it's getting written up. Basha was a tough guy it is. That's one of them. Can't find the rest of them. Well bottom line is the irony of that comment was there. Were a lot of people who thought at the time that thais went too far with the bit during the game and that in all honesty. The vikings needed to throw the ball needed to be a little bit more. Vanessa not worry about going toe toe mano a mano in a street fight sense. Once the game began that in some ways it played it the bears in hiding some of their weaknesses at the time at it took away from the vikings chances to win the ball game or games. Because i think the street fight deal. He used more than once. The tough guy game playoff football in december together execute. And you can't leave. Plays on the field. Two thousand three is when he made two thousand three. Yeah okay so you look at things as they stand right now and this is officially bears. Week really wasn't lions week last week but we can proclaim it. Bears week manasota because the bears are on any kind of a high. They've lost three in a row and they're a mess and you can't really say. The vikings are on a magnificent high. They're still sitting at three and five out of the playoffs. Even the expanded playoffs marked with seaford at three thirty as well. But it's fair to say that the vikings don't want to be too cute in this ball game. And that's what i hated. Don't be too cute with the bears. You can't you gotta win the street fight. It's gotta.

Born Volvo guest lineup will include Mason your face at three fifty five not in studio today he'll be by phone Pat Kessler whose always by phone. I. Think Kessler came into studio once. Like eleven years ago literally like my first couple of months producing the show, you may yes and you're right the timeline is right about there. That's been about eleven years now think about. How many other guests starting with, May? have. Almost, weekly committed to the bid enough that they come in Kessler could not be bothered. Eleven years ago he he raised his hand and that's the last time he's come in. If he thinks he's GonNa, mail it in with US during retirement. He's got another thing coming. No, he's He's going to be every week. If, he wants to be part of the show. That's what we're. GonNa say we made accommodations for yeah. That's right. Dot. com. Hatchet it off the top of the program that we are indeed or how far is it from here to Los Angeles California leader without looking it up. Without looking up. Jeez do you dare to hazard a guess doing this to me? I'm going to say twenty five, hundred miles something like that. To The ballpark thousand no now you're getting crazy then I. That would be all the way halfway to Hawaii I. Think the coach halfway what? It is one, thousand, nine, hundred, twenty, eight. Miles. The other hand. What's five? Ninety four minus sixteen. Five Seventy Eight You sure. I should have a pen here but I don't WanNa there's a pen that's here but I'm afraid common infected it. Yeah. So five, ninety, four minus sixteen would be five seventy eight right. All right. So I got that another one for minus sixteen there's another way to look at the distance between. Minnesota or Minneapolis in particular and Los Angeles California. We are not only one, thousand, nine, hundred, twenty miles apart. We are ten, thousand, five, hundred, seventy, eight days a party that I know what that refers to as well. Yeah. Apparently, there's a hip with it and wow, t shirt. That is selling out of the Los Angeles California market. I survived the Sixteen Day Championship drought. Sixteen days between. The Lakers winning it all in basketball and the Los Angeles dodgers winning it all. In baseball are drought. Again. If you're links fan don't emails were well aware of the wings we've celebrated the lakes early and often an unpolished apologetically. But if we're talking about the traditional four major sports. As many of you know or maybe we're reminded today. Our our current. Shall we say losing streak? Is Ten thousand, five, hundred, ninety, four days. Long stretching all the way back to game seven cacao. Thank you so much. Nine, hundred, ninety, one. World Series was the anniversary yesterday did we decide if game seven am seven? Yes. Was Twenty nine years ago yesterday twenty, nine years ago yesterday and how ironic by the way we're GonNa get to it later. Unbelievable. How Ironic is it? That on that anniversary. which celebrated more than anything else. The tenacity. And shall we say? Durability and endurance of a starting pitcher who refused to come out of a ten inning game. Contrasts with. The rather fateful decision made. By the Tampa Bay Tampa Bay rays. To Paul their starting pitcher. In dominant form by the way Blake Snell that was a decision by Kevin cash and. The rest is history. The dodgers took full advantage once that decision. was indeed. Made. It feels like longer than ten, thousand, five, hundred, ninety, four days to me. It really does it feels like it's yeah it's what is another I guess it is already another century. It's a century ago right? Technically An. Very different millennium. Yeah. The good about it. I. Think it feels longer than nine, hundred, ninety, one, I really do I think it feels like it's even longer than that as as it pertains to football. Basketball Baseball. And Hockey, and of course. You have your pen, you have a pen or Pencil Yup hang on. Let's take the twins out of let's eliminate them from the conversation. No if we take the twins out of the conversation. How long has it been since? We won. A World Championship and football. Well, we have. Why did you get a pen out for that? It was cruel just being sarcastic I. Guess. But we have one what's called an NFL championship. That's true. But we have not won the super bowl the big the big. So the answer that question is its its I guess you would go back to the date of the Vikings first game when they got the town nineteen, sixty, sixty or sixty one was we go all the way back to that date that would be that gap right Yup. Hockey. Now same thing we we. We've had two franchises And we've never won the big one correct yell. So again, we got people out there who are really much better with calendars and I am. GIMME I I. wouldn't mind having those totals. How many days that's been. And then Basketball I guess it all depends on you mean Minneapolis Lakers did win titles a lot. They want a bunch of them. I think five right did win five. Yeah. Now you're going back to the late forties early fifties I think. and. Again, there's a great websites where you pick two dates in no matter how far back it goes it will tell you what that gap is. I'd like to have each of those. That's my homework assignment to the audience booth. Care Fan..

The greatest or most popular American sport off the top of my head. I'm GonNa say sometime in the ninety s maybe late nineties mid to late nineties maybe the strike had something to do with it with baseball hurt a little bit ninety four and I'm just thinking about. Localising it. Like with the Vikings in, we've talked about this in the mid nineties. Yeah. Cub Foods. Every week had to buy three thousand tickets and I heard about it on the Chatham Barreiro show that. Star. Tribune or General Mills or somebody somebody would've had to buy tickets to avoid the blackout right? And here that ended in ninety eight with Moss we've talked about that that changed everything but I don't know because I was young. You might know better than me was was it like that around the NFL in the nineties and then late nineties just took off. Locally I think you're onto something I think it's earlier. Nationally. Nationally now, a lot of people if you want to go further back point to that NFL championship game the the the was the first big TV game. Yeah. Back in the fifties. Involving as I recall it the colts. And that? opened the door to the idea that this thing's got a chance to be. On believably big. "The bumper show is on the air and it is on the road verse time in a long time in the covid nineteen winter of our discontent t co performance center. Where I just talked about silence Probably, hear something the wind howling seem to be there may be a clipper headed our way outside of that. It's about silent as it can be. My name is Dan Barreiro. I'm the host of the program guards. He's the producer of the show and we will do the next three and a half hours from Te'o performance center where you're Minnesota Vikings, your favorite football team. Is toiling right in front of us to our immediate right on to practice fields taking going on in the immediate field and other very spirited workouts going on a little bit beyond their guards. He is, of course, the producer. Of the program as well. We'll give the board Volvo guest lineup and just a couple of minutes but because it is Viking centric for the obvious reasons but it is, of course, our first trip out here During Training Camp Two thousand twenty. And It's a lot less festive. Custom, it's different to our immediate, right where massive. I mean. Huge tents are usually set up for the beautiful people. For you know corporate hobnobbing for all the wolf's and where Lester Bagley does some of his best schmoozing. and. They're not even here. Right? It's just it's open grass now where all those tents were you know we generally have a decent crowd of fans on each day especially on a nice day like today showing up to take a look. Eight here either. I see a few people on the perch who are those people on the perch where we came in there's a group of about six or seven. Those are reporters. Those are reports, the media media spot now uh-huh. Well, as you can see, they've got a bunch of different tents and added on. Yeah well, they're allowed to do this l. that you can see. They're allowed to be we're allowed to be on this side line and back on that sideline. So over there, that's your Guy Mark Craig better guzzling was over there a moment ago before he had to run to do some joined the show about five fifteen. So we've got that's the that's the media. Okay. It's basically the team, the coaches, the players, and if you're a really really beautiful person like the top of the list beautiful people. Can. Get grandfathered in the in the in the building itself with their offices. There's a nice little roof. Yeah. Occasionally can those folks? Pay. A big price to get in there I don't think. So what price or what would that price be? They have enough money it wouldn't matter. They'd be able to pay it. Yeah. The question was whether they want pay it's not. It's still just practice and We're GonNa talk with Mike. Zimmer we think sometime three thirty and four word on the street is practice might go a little shorter than usual. So Zimba join us for me socially a re a socially distance location. and it's fairly certain based on the conversation I had with Bob Hagan earlier today that he will definitely turn his back to. With US yeah. That was kind of a pretty much earmarked. My question about that yesterday so we may not be able to look in the I. we may not we I guess we might just see his back, which is fine. You'll be. Number of yard what you say about twenty yards from us if he does it from where Harrison. Smith has done it and others yeah. Probably right around there twenty to twenty five yards about the length of the laser pass that kirk cousins just through to Taj Sharp what are you working for pro football? One you were talking I was watching they're doing some kind of team period over there. No paths cousins rolled out bought himself a little time and through dagger although I'm not even positive. It was cousins because they're all the way down there but it was a nice catch by sharp. Yeah. The bid I guess it's better than it was even if it wasn't how arouse was I wind before you got here about an hour ago right when they were coming out for some of their first practice series two quarterbacks were right in front now listen to Kirkby Kirk. Feeder the shucks guy talking to the other QB's Nate Stanley man in those guys you are. Browning I. Should say. The thing about it is I think you were becoming more of a cousin oboe just to get me going I mean I think you ought to try It out I'm trying to balance out the negative not just from you. But others I'm trying to balance it out. You know me I like to be a counterbalance every once in awhile and yeah. Well but I would suggest I'm the counterbalance. The people who are pretending that he's headed for to the hall of Fame Las basically just charging me. Charge even more. So than me I'm a level or two below charge. Yeah. You're not at charges Lee or haven't been I don't know where charges lately as he doubled down on it much. Well, he's he cousins was his guy before he was all of our albums number one leading the charge to sign cousins a couple of years ago and I jumped in pretty quickly after that way you jumped in way too easily I've been I've been a vikings fan my whole life Dan, and I know the struggles they've had it the position. And anyone our study. It was a nice pass. It was a nice our talk with them forever and I can't trade. He better be good and you'd better run too much That's one of the subjects who may get into with Mike Zimmer I think we did last year ever last year he was going to run more. So I don't know what what what's changed other than he's just answering the question that's put in front of him. Yes probably. Yeah. That's always going to be part of it I mentioned Zim I mentioned Ben Gasoline will be the rest of the lineup. 'cause we got a new male clinic big knocker we were gonNA introduce. The probably the last thirty minutes the show five, fifty, five, or six o'clock, and I think it's going to be He's very timely based on his particular specialty. Give you more details on on that in in a little bit but. Again you know in all honesty. We. Kit. All the time about how Worthless it can be to attempt to evaluate a team of the basis of practice or even to pretend i. Practice a one of those necessary football practice especially as a necessary evil they you know teams have to do it you have to practice. Maybe. Even more intensely this year given that we have no preseason games at all. That's another one of the subjects we'll get into I. Hope with Zim if he's not too cranky. but. It I. Guess. It's like with so much in sports the ritual. Of coming out here every year or going to Mankato year even if deep down, you're gone I'm not sure how much we're GONNA get out of this. We're GONNA get good access. but I'm not sure how we're going to get out of it. I Miss I gotTa admit if we couldn't do it I would miss complaining about how meaningless it is. Part of the ritual we're accustomed to, and now we're in this brave new world in which everything looks. Bear and strip download. It is funny and there's different I mean we're. What level are we tier to? We're some kind of tears to There's tear which I think is better than Most of the jackals I think they're tier three media that we're rubbing it in. So we're rub it in because while we're apologised the team. Yes. So we get that our reward that was. Of, part of the pamphlet that part of the waiver you signed to get in here was to be an apologist and every every level of employee media member of everybody's got a different route to take a different pathway take different entrance and exit I did admit I do admit I told you this. I was a little crestfallen that even though they're separating the vikings. Are Keeping US completely separate from anybody involved with the organization I wanted them to care a little bit.

With hundred fourteen games be precise data gain from yesterday, hundred fourteen games deferred salaries in the event of a canceled postseason because of the weather. And the option for all players to opt out of a potential twenty twenty season, due to corona virus concerns that according to Jack Passing and others proposal I from the Union. It was the first from the Union I should say and is expected to be pretty much dismissed immediately, but they would run June thirtieth to October thirty first which I think. The owners! It doesn't, but it doesn't feel right to me right. Just think he'd further down the road. Let's say the team that hires Eric be enemy next year. If this thing gets passed, someone's going to hire be enemies, should I? And should absolutely he's he's dead. He's overdue. You'RE GONNA have the press conference with the GM and the coach whoever it is and yeah, coach. General Manager, Guy Dan Barreiro cafe in radio. A royal show page KFI DOT COM. Was the balance shifted at all. We found out that that second round. Pick your that third round pick was gonNA. Jump up six spots that help coach enemies chances of getting this job. What's the GM going to say Allie He's GonNa go hell. Yeah, we think it's a forty person drafts and we were sitting in forty-six. We took him because he's the best person for the job. Ninety ten. It's going to be on. The whole thing is awkward. That's why like I said it in the end I. Don't I don't know if it ends up making the league. Look better if the logjam is broken that way it it it. It again says well. This isn't really about doing the right thing and creating greater opportunities it's. Against the draft choice? Yeah, and then we'll do it well. You want to improve our draft position I know a lot of this is desperation is that it doesn't appear as if anything else has worked. But I'll be curious to hear from. Those individuals who felt like they have not had their opportunity. Minority saying you know if they'd say I'll hold my nose, and if anything that will break the log jams, a good thing,.

"There may have been some kind of bounty situation. The godfather of all bounty systems right along with Greg Williams. My Guy Sean Payton on one point seven FM. Went, on to talk about a lot of things, pass interference, offense, pass interference, but also said it by the way. If you're waiting for the League to investigate that James Harrison they shouldn't hold their breath. I think what took place with us. Back. In twenty eleven in so many ways was a sham and yet there wasn't a lot we could do with it, you know. The players were vindicated, but from a League coaching standpoint, there's no union, no representation. Payton said he'd be shocked at the League. League punish the steelers, saying that'll be something that's tucked away or under the rug at Park Avenue. Look into it briefly listen. Don't get me started on that. I lost six million dollars in salary, and honestly it was something that I'll never truly get over because I know how it was handled I. Know How it was run, and the reasons behind it, and that's just the truth. I'll never get over either sean. If I'm if you know if I'm the commissioner of national football, you I do I. I don't I suspend them for another year. Clearly the message didn't get across to you. Point you know lack of a you know institutional control, Sean Payton. He learned nothing from that. He's a very good football code. Offensive Mind, but all that says is. Never. Never got the message and quite frankly he never. Ever will now to catch people up on the second part of James Harrison. Obviously, everyone's going well. It was there another bounty and Pittsburgh was Mike Tomlin presiding over another bounty system with the steelers. Harrison says no an instant today said Tomlin never put a bounty on. Anyone might never paid me for hurting someone or trying to hurt someone or put a bounty on. What's in the envelope then? He didn't clarify what was in the whole. There's gotta be money in the on either that or panic can. WHO's GIFT CERTIFICATE RIGHT SO? The the problem with him thinking. He cleared the air by saying it wasn't bountygate is. If. He says on the front end he was. Handed an envelope after developed after delivering an egregiously bad tough hit, which is find seventy five K for fifteen, Seventy Five K okay. Then to say well. This is like a bountygate situation because he didn't he didn't. He didn't give me that envelope, because I made the hit. But the implication on the front end was that was. Why was doing the hit? So the whole deal is semantically i. don't understand his thinking he. He makes Tom look vulnerable to the extent that if indeed as a reward. For the hit, that's what you give. Somebody doesn't imply two other players hey. You Know I. Don't have to declare anything like here's the money in the kitty, but chur sounds like you. If you deliver a good cheap shot, knock somebody out. You might get a reward from the head coach. Isn't that what it sounds like, or he's literally just trying to pay the fine, or if you get find your head, coach might help you out with that. which also you can't do, you can't do. Probably teams have done that forever. Well yeah, caught for it yet, so I can't imagine that we've done. That's true because we get caught for everything and I'm not just talking about the Vikings and talking about Minnesota Teams in general, we get caught forever. We tend to now is. We're not very good at Tsim. Terrible cheaters that's correct, the most confusing confounding or puzzling story of the day as it pertains to the national. Football League. Is a new incentive program. Speaking of incentives for minority hires head, coach and General Manager Position Yeah. We've talked about this forever. And Roger Goodell even acknowledged the need at the Super Bowl three months ago when his yearly address that there needs to be an increase for minorities, opportunities for minorities to become head, coaches and general managers. Here's his quote. They're clearly we are not where we want to be on this level clear. We need to change. We've already begun discussing those changes what stages we can take next to. Determine, outcomes now. I'm going to get in the weeds a little bit. Because one way they're trying to incentivize teams. To hire minority, head, coaches and general managers. Is improved. At least one of their draft pick positions if they make said higher. This is Jim Trotter. NFL, DOT COM columnists. This is where I saw this story. If a team hires a minority head coach that team in the draft, preceding the coaches, second season would move up six spots from where it slotted to pick in the third round. A team of jump ten spots under the same scenario for hiring a person of color as its primary football executive position more commonly known as general manager so head coach six spots. Your draft pick moves up in the third round ten spots. It moves up if you hire an African American GM now Dan. You might be asking. What if you do both? Then you combine them. And you can move up your third round selection into the second teen spots potentially in to the second round. Your thoughts. I? I, don't know I'd be very curious to know do. Is there reaction? From from people in the National Football, league about this Eilon for cursory. would be minority coaches who've been frustrated by the lack of opportunity to move on because I I want to listen to what they have to say. On first blush I will tell you that. It doesn't feel right to me it to me. It. It feels as if the message that SORTA sent is if I guess you look at it two ways. But you could say well. This actually props a change in the hiring practice. We're looking for opportunities, and if this brings `bout finally the opportunities in a way that ever has before in the end. We'll take it, but the other side of me looks at it and got it's. How cynical view is that well the only way we could get this done. Is Not because. The people in charge wanted to do it because it's the right thing to do, but because they're going to able to be able to get a precious better draft choice is that come off as a thing to be proud of or actually thing that further reveals the League for being not progressive at all that it had to be something completely different than brought him into it I.
