"And I'm actually for the sake of time because we've got a lot to get through with this episode, I'm going to combine a few eighty s comedies that I think were certainly in the when coming up with something like this, and that includes back to the future, of course, as well as ghostbusters as far as a kind of a general Mystical Scifi comedy kind of a tone and weird science as well for just getting science and comedy mixed together like that in in this kind of a fun way that that is just. Ridiculous and over the top but also there's Character and heart you know weird science is imperfect one. You know what I mean like him for many many reasons It's funny I'll add mine into yours which was I. don't know how you didn't say this one the Blues Brothers Sure. You know yeah. The I. Think what was happening in the eighties was at like not only was like we're like the was at the first wave what eventually became what's known as nerd culture taking over. But that was like the first time we're like the outcast, the slackers were starting to Kinda. Take Front Centered Light Bill Murray was a big. You know. An John, Belushi and Dan Aykroyd and even John Hughes in a way always nerdy little outcasts suddenly their voices were being heard. and. Yeah. I definitely think that that is what a way to bill and Ted and bill and Ted's was actually created an option before back to the future it obviously got made because of back to the future is you know what I mean but But I just tried not give any credit back to the future I come to the bill and Ted back to feature today because it's like they're. Sorry back future. You just ain't got nothin' on villain. Ted. Well they're. They're very, very different movie S. You know even even though there sci-fi comedies you're right. You're right. No, you're you really that that that is the truth you know in another pair of sci fi movies like robocop and terminator like the get compared to lot province reasons but honestly I just last week went to a drive-in US double feature of both of those of Terminator and Robocop, and they made the horrible mistake applying Terminator Second, which it's a slower movies like a buck but watching them back to back they're completely different movies to a totally now although robocop is a million times better. But. But. Yeah but again, but there is no bill and Ted, without back to the future so as much as I can. Kind of paid back to the future in my own way I can't deny it. It's Potency and its effect and it's You know. So. And, apparently, they were originally going to time travel in a van but. They said that it was too similar. So. But a phone booth isn't similar enough to a police box..

"Also not decided on a mother ship out the movies film for this week I don't know where we stand on this brasserie leading any which way if we hold it all the basketball movie of choice we're gonna do a basketball field in honor of the NBA returning in announcing its plans to return yeah I personally after much debate all weekend I think we should go to Celtic pride that's my personal opinion that is already one of your favorite sports films ever I believe you you put it in right outside the top three at number four it is number four and the reason I say that is number one I think it involves fairly inclusion in sports which is something we are now seeing with the PGA tour because we have a T. Celtic pride involves a kidnapping so I think the fans are very much involved here so I think that is that is something to shoot for also it centers around the NBA finals and now that we know we are getting an NBA finals I think it checks a lot of boxes for us here as far as what we need to fill every sports movie okay I'm on board with the NBA in the NBA playoffs part I think you're losing me on the fan interaction part how does Dan Aykroyd and Daniel stern stealing that Damon Wayans quite equate to the PGA tour having fans come back well look the PJ tortured fads come back the fans are being involved in the sport but as far as basketball goes were any bubble we won't see fan so I think this will just give you say Hey we know you can't be involved the NBA we are seeing fans get all the PGA but look at what point in time fans are so much involved with the idea that you could keep star player well the Utah Jazz yeah I I don't think they were ever so involved that.

We'll do it where he's he's a blind pawnbroker and we go in we need an electric county is going on the road and we need to say and we try to rip them off but it is no way. We're you know he's going to let us steal anything. We demonstrates a piano and he can go. You can play You know to do a number on the piano so the the movie. Hopefully we'll have that alternate on the right track baby step like that. You know hour or Moly street you know. All these great tune Ray. Charles was agrees bracelet us when we did our show. You know said stuff. I you know there was a good show. I am this great sketches on that show did. He really didn't alert all of his lines and one morning and we read about cards on Saturday flag. I knew that was amazing and never ever go faster than the music. Never get there before the music gets. A lot of people tend to play fast. And just said. Don't worry we'll keep going at. It might not show Lorne. Michaels and Howard shore decided to get together his old horn section. And the Ray let's So they hunted and flew the mall and I think they got everybody bad. Whatever and And they they played. They played buying them for the for the show. You know favorites stand up shows in each of you. My favorite other little gems that stand out every show. Every one of those Saturday nights has got a real Turkey or a couple of Turkeys and a couple of jammed tune in. You don't hear every every week we did see usually worth checking it out flipping back to once in a while. You know I'll tell you what about six years to get our stride like CNN sexual. He's yeah well you didn't have it yet last year because you go from week to week. You're judging from week to week. I used to get real the press. I think I'll God who we got on the show and this week is Turkey. We do best writings week and we go do it. It's a terrible show and everybody wants to kill themselves up the show everybody wants and then people run up and selects weekend. Every was a that was good and the next week they eat our show. And it'd be great or we also al. We have a great show. You can't just the best we can you know in the situation. That's all. We saw that critics say whatever they want. I don't really know at this point at this point. They're gonNA have to hose this out of the building to throw me right off the job because I can show they say leave a show. I should I leave the show and I like doing this show. It's hard is it to sure you're on the air once you're on live. It's a lot of fun. It's a while you know it could be no matter how mad get during the week are crazy or when. I quit when that show goes on live. I'm smiling the whole time. How Democratic is the process of Saturday and by that I mean like a selection of guest host selection of musical choices? Yes or no put on the hill pretty much a whole group pro. Yeah very family really is really is. It's not like some of those mills in Hollywood where the writers are isolated from the performance. The scripts come out and they're delivered by Messenger. Twenty three blocks away to the studio and they come in and the cast looks them over in. The writers. Don't have any processor. Say on that show every writer if he chooses to can produce his own piece right out there and and that's what Lorne Michaels has done. He's he's giving everybody he's saying. Listen these are the facilities. You can learn how to produce if you want. That's what we did with the blues. Brothers I mean we. We got the contract to do it. We will do just what we WANNA do. We do what we WANNA do. You like if anybody suggestion what we wanted to this song. This song we listen to everybody you know. We listened to who get for the group. What Gupta get answer? Yes yes and then go and do what we wanted to know. You can't be forced to say like to make a single. We had a meeting. We've got it the goods that we don't have you do what you do. You can't try something but on on a particular show is like time allotted to each one was like this everybody gets a spot all unite. Saturday nights and seventy not show. It depends how it's written depends Who gets what and how the writers feel who can do the best job and whatever you know I looked at it a little as possible because those last year I was fighting back and forth movies and I just said. Please don't get anything publicity and you've been doing quite a bit on the first bunch of shows. Yeah they've been throwing me. I'll sure sure people into our wire into Saturday night. Live running like so into it. I mean and there's a tremendous fascination only with the show but with the whole process of live ninety minutes every week. I think most people are aware that it's a tremendous tremendous undertaking. I would not do television. This was live. Yeah there's no way to slide prime-time stuff is not for me or for us. We don't do that stuff live. Tv As accessorised take B is not aggressive. I mean live album is exciting to do. A live. Show is exciting to do exciting to hear. That's why this album is exciting. People pretty well know that. We're you know that he's Jake and Elwood These are the characters the alter-egos we take on because the whole thing is a theatrical thing we come from a background of we worked in second city which is an improvisational theatre. School might say at. The school teaches you how to to write on your feet. You know we we used to go out. I mean the process is very simple. We do a set show.

"Why did he even put the show on the air because they wanted a comedy show on a Saturday night to make people laugh will they had one. So they would air reruns of the tonight show which Carson and Johnny said, and this is the beginning of his I want more vacation days. I only want to work five days a week or four days a week or three days a week. So they said all right if he's working really right now Monday through Friday, and they're rerunning on Saturday. Now, he wants Mondays off we can't rerun on Monday and Saturday will kill the Saturday and we'll make it on Monday. But was your original named Saturday alive? I have no idea Saturday night just Saturday night. That was it. I original cast member to be hired. Well, I was just gonna ask what made them add the live part into it. Telling people that really was the return to live television. I mean, you live television was pretty prevalent through the nineteen fifties. And then there was about fifteen sixteen years at went by that everything was a little bit more on tape. You know tonight show used to be live in and went to tape. So I think it was kind of the excitement and the unexpected nature kind of more of a marketing tool what could happen? And then also you're watching live music on the show to which is pretty cool. I cast member hired gotta guess for that one. Oh, gosh. That's a good one. I I'm clueless Gilda Radner. I have no idea who that is. Oh my gosh. Sorry. I can't help when I was born. Where's Roger and shawny when you need them Gilda Radner? Do you ever heard the gilda's club in Chicago? Okay. Gil familiar guilty died of cancer. And that is the club that is named in her honor. But yet guilty render she was married to gene wilder probably somebody else, you don't know Willie Wonka. All right. Let's see here. Oh, no here Saturday Night Live became lie. Because there was no they didn't do it. The first year live because there was a show earlier called Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell doing sports on ABC, and the I want to confuse it which it could never be confused for that. Announcer. Don, Pardo, who's a Chicago. And by the way. Made a mistake during the show's premiere episode of shows longtime announcer was supposed to say the not ready for that ready for primetime players because that's what they're called. He mixed up. A few words calling him the net for ready prime time players there. Go chevy. Chase was not hired as a cast member. He was hired as a writer. They decided to use him screen. Who was the first person to say live from New York? It's Saturday night. Wow. That's another good question. Also Chevy Chase. Oh, really? I the first and did it quite a bit. He was only for one season, by the way. During the first season. Comedian Richard Belcher warmed up the crowd. This is crazy. Cast members were paid thing about this. John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd paid seven hundred fifty dollars a week. In the seventies. Yeah. So I'm sure that was a lot more than that. But still pretty light. Yeah. For that crowd. Will Ferrell was the highest paid cast member? When he signed a contract in two thousand one Ellison is three hundred and fifty thousand dollars an episode dang. So think about John Belushi seven hundred and fifty yeah. Will Ferrell three hundred fifty thousand there you go. Oh. Jim Carey audition twice for the show and was rejected twice. Oh, ended up doing for just different skits or something or as a cast member general aspirin Rogan. Let's see here Roberts Michael who I just met and had some cocktails with on Thursday. Who did all kinds of writing for any memorable sketch from the eighties or nineties he wrote? And he also does. Triumph the insult comic dog. Okay. As well. Conus? He ran he wrote a handful of produced SNL movies as well. But he did the he worked with Bob Odenkirk. And and. Conan o'brien. But he did the dub bears sketch. He wrote that one of course as well. He also did a great takeoff. Bozo's circus that you could find it's called pro circus, I'm YouTube, and he does a great Bob bell. That is that is absolutely hysterical. You're getting crap from listeners for not knowing how Gilda Radner is. You're gonna have to do some research. I'm sorry. I'm born in. What can I do? Eddie. Murphy was desperate to be cast. He wanted to be cast on the show. And quite frankly, he was cast during those years that Lauren Michael wasn't producing anymore and the series was pretty weak. But he was the bright light in all of that. Let's see here. It's Pat was the least successful SNL movie. Don't forget there was Wayne's world, and so many others. So that was the least successful of the movies Jeff Ross comedian Jeff Ross was considered replacement for Colin Queen on weekend update, Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon were the only the only folks vying for that job, they got it. Eventually I love Jeff Ross Larry David was a writer on the show, but he quit. And then he pretended. He didn't. Which is typical ham. Let's see here. Who do you think which cast member idolized John Belushi as a cast member walking onstage? New John Belushi was this hero which current cast member AAC cast member a member. Aram's you can take a shot in the dark. I would guess maybe will Ferrell Chris Farley. Oh, okay. Who kind of I guess, I'm the same way. Yeah. There. Jennifer Aniston claims she was offered a spot on the show back in the day. Keenan Thompson was the first cast member who is born after SNL premiered born in nineteen seventy eight. Let's see here. I attended one Saturday Night Live, and it was in nineteen ninety one and Christian Slater was the host. Oh, interesting. And we had an event at the coconuts music and movie store on fifty first and sixth street across from Radio City Music hall, and we had a Saturday Night Live exhibit and with all the product from all the seasons in the music and everything else, and I had to go to Rockefeller plaza to go. Get the logos to produce these signs and ended up inviting Lorne Michaels in the cast to calm, all that's awesome. Mike Myers came and it was fantastic. So there you have it. So does the final day that week day hours away opens at ten AM Saturday Night Live the experienced the museum of broadcast communications three sixty north State Street for more information.
