"For you today we have four. Head Division One coaches to talk about college basketball in the potential restart, and they all have different views, and they'll from different levels for the most part and that's why got him together and we've Texas Tex Chris, Beard. Seton Hall's Kevin Willard Pacific's Damon Stoudamire and UNC Geez West West Miller. Talking about the restart. And again their thoughts of kind of what can be done and I'll even give you my idea. which is a little bit off the wall but certainly this is something that ink A lot of coaches are trying to figure out what's going to happen Kevin Willard. You had a great idea. Certainly that has picked up some steam among the coaching ranks, and that was to start in November thanksgiving break when all the regular students leave campus and start playing then so Tell me a little bit about it what it's like in some of the feedback that you've gotten. You Know Jeff I. think that's where it's GonNa. Be really hard and confusing for everybody because. You're not going to bring a team on campus. That doesn't have the same testing protocols same. Everything that you're doing and I think that's going to be by conference I don't think. Anyone's going to have a say in that I'd love to still play or non conference games I think it's important for everybody, but I think that's really I think that's where it starts to get confusing because. One's GonNa let some someone come on campus loan through an airport. That's that hasn't tested their kids in a week or every four. We're doing every four days during the season so I think that's where each school is going to have to really make their own decision I. Think it's GonNa. Be President and I think it's going to be conferences and make that call. Beard your eyes have been working out all week so of your Kevin. What! What's it been like so far? What? Mass, obviously, some schools, every school's different from what I hear some schools. It's one player one ball other schools. It's maybe groups of three with the ball and a rebounder and. How how how strange has been? The first of all whole mass still it's actually improved my relationship with some of my players 'cause they can't understand what I'm saying. But, it's been really gonNA. Frustrating new coaching. Who is but Basically what we're don't love love it because we're trying to create our own bubble in.

"From the ball Air Kobe to the Afro Kobe. You know back to the back to the ball in short here you know and just to see the growth you know as ballplayer man. It was amazing. You know it was amazing. I I can say this. I can truly say this when when I was done playing. I retired last game. Two Thousand Eight thank. You know he'd be. He turned he turned out to be my favorite play. You know I would. Only you know it was only one. Do that was going. That was going to keep me on schedule to get home and watch a game to watch told matter of fact. I wanted to be okay. I've got a moment for here. It goes a great as you start. Start talking I knew the moment would come. Era Goes right here. I share my patella tendon at torn. Patella tendon when I was in Memphis. Two thousand five two thousand six season so. I'm on bed rest You know have surgery this January sometime. You can't do nothing so I got I got. I'm basically on bed rest for month to let everything he'll and so on sitting there watching this gay. I'm watching when they played Toronto and he has the eighty one points right so understand like when you're injured you're injured. It's like a different filler. Because everybody's playing you know people people don't at certain times that people not answering your tax so I'm laying a B. and so I'm just sitting here like man. This dude is killing. He was like yes. I was like man. This dude killer like that game right there. When he had that eighty one many was killing. It was crazy like that game was crazy like I was like man that death for me. Solidified Man I and I was on one eight Rudy night. You know what I mean and I'm still in the NBA. At that time. This dude is killer like it was just. It was just amazing to me like the mentality that he had man. I was telling a lot of people like like I said early on. He was a humble. Do Not that not that. Not that he got you know air get nothing but I'm just saying it was it was it was the humble Horror Syndrome Syndrome. You know because he was just. I'm trying to prove everybody wrong. No that's what it was. You know. He he carried that chip on his shoulder man each and every fractious and game. He played he did. He did indeed a great stuff. Our last thing before I let you go. "During lockdown you're watching old boop what's the best like Classic Game You cute up? Recently I queued up Damon Stoudamire Toronto Raptors Damon Stoudamire Second Cheer The first time we played against Philadelphia with Alan his rookie. Hugh data data. And you know what you know. What in that game. There was a lot of missed shots by by you him or both between us. Both it was a lot of anxious moments and a Lotta Mitch shots. I think I think I might have been like nine twenty five. He was a little bit better. But let's call it when I say a little bit better. It was like eleven. Twenty eight number twenty dollars just like a lot of Michigan. But you know what though? That's that's the type of thing I'd do this. Just watch games and you know Things that were going on going back to college watching college games and you know it's funny to watch old games because basketball's plays so different events Lee this man. It was a lot of walking the ball of the court. The physicality of the game was crazy. A lot of fighting only for Gore is just totally different. You know but yet no. That's that's the only thing that's the only thing that's going on now. Just kind of waiting it out to see what the next move and not only myself but the rest of the country man like I said. I think that everybody needs to stay in the house. Stand in front of your house going to backyard. Walked down the stairs apartment. If that's where you at work on the balcony whenever doing because once they say go. It's going to be crazy here. Yeah I know it's going to be a mad rush for toilet paper besides just pulled up the box score by the way Damon. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. Do you know what your your your final field. Goal percentage there was. What look like eight for twenty eight? So you're kidding. Eight for twenty eight and I was eight for eighteen so okay maybe I was anxious to eight the twentieth who. I'm probably going to get some calls on the twenty eighth Jimmy Chris. A you know that wasn't even the most field goal attempts not taking the game. Do you remember what I think? The most took an a game was about thirty seven. Now taking was triple overtime. I think about thirty seven. Wow I got some of the craziest records in the NBA. Most shots most three pointers made I think. Jr Jr Smith kind of broke a couple of my records I think. Jr Smith he broke through my record. He broke most three pointers in one game. And I think The most mystery pointers. I think he broke those records. Everytime James Harden has done something where they say he's had the most missing one game. I always probably Heyman. It's good to be remembered right no matter how it goes before. I let you go. I'm I'm trying to get as many Kobe memories from people as I can over the course of the year here if you have one favorite. Koby memory whether it's a game a single play a move whatever it is like. What's the first thing that comes to mind your your favorite Kobe? Memory truthfully don't know if I have that one moment but what I have of you know is is lake. You know plant like say. It's playing against him early. You know so plan against in the playoffs where he really meant something like but before he was actually just saying Nike Growth. No like that competitiveness. Like he was quiet in a young age he was quiet. He was still trying to figure it out He didn't talk on the court to as it as it started going on. Wolf when he when he got confident you know he you know he was who he was you know just just. The growth in words game was where he became. I guess you know then that you know I just came in a year before you know so I've seen all of that. Seen go.

"Seventh overall pick in the one thousand nine Hundred Ninety Trafton facts the first pick in Toronto Raptors street back then. A lot of people called mighty mouse. Now you can just call him. Coach coach Damon Stoudamire of University of the Pacific. How are you Damon going? Good Howard how you doing man. I'm doing well. Does anybody still call you mighty mouse town. I get a couple older people that still out there and you're not crazy. Thing is my team. The kids coating additive like call. You might do you show them the Tetsu I'd do. I show him and everything but now you know I don't I don't actually get it as much so you know but but yeah I still. I still arts with every now and again. That's great I'm glad to hear that stuck through it actually will it will stick. It'll stick forever Damon because it's on your basketball reference page and once it's there that's forever so no. So what's what's lockdown like in Stockton. How you hold up. What are you doing to keep yourself occupied? What's what's the day to day like right now just like anybody on North? Wake up and I don't have a routine writing outside you get up and I do things around the house. I'll leave males. I'll make some phone calls. I've become great friends with Zillow. I think everybody right now is running to the zone to do different things and you know had his chats and so I've been doing a lot of that and you know really just resting. Did I get out? I go for walks. I try to give me a little workout in within my house and different things and really just trying to keep my mind keeps my mind elevated in and not get too bored but at the same time you know. Why we're you know while we're in the house Lou these unfortunate circumstances. I'm trying to take advantage of it. Just kind of relax Whenever they say goal can you imagine what is going to look like whom they say go is going to be everybody going? Full steam ahead probably the biggest thing. I'm looking forward to going to get a haircut. You know that's the biggest thing you know what? I'm trying to get an air because right now. I'm winging it you know I I look. Like Abraham Lincoln was feared that even I didn't even know this possible th- media you'll be both men you and me both a little frightened to know when it's going to look like for a lot of us by the time this is all over and and the the barbershops open back up it's going to be it's going to be a messy so Congrats on on your season though. Obviously you know it's such a weird thing because everything is shutdown right now but you guys had Pacific's best record and I think like a decade you guys twenty three in ten and this was your fourth season and you took over a program that was on probation in two thousand sixteen. When you get there you guys go. Eleven and twenty to fourteen wins the next two years and this was a big breakout year coach of the year. Wc and the Ben Job Award which for folks? That don't aren't aren't familiar with it. It's for the top division. One minority coach annual award given out. Where in all of that? What's your biggest point of pride about the season that you guys had just had the biggest point of prize winning the community? I think that the community you know really wanted something to embrace. I think that every Watson to go out here and stocks in you know they. They showed a lot of love but they said you know you know this is this. Is this place reminds me a lot of when? I was in Memphis. You know from the standpoint. They just take a lot of pride and everything you know they. They're this fighting town so to speak blue collar. You know. I think that US winning. And you know the the guys that are brought in you know they're not household names you know but but these guys they. They play the tails off every night. They competed you know and they let me coach them and we were able to maximize every bit out of them. Gets the point that that we got through the season to me You know to win for this community and Dan the CD's players have success. I I don't think people understand how hard it is and when you know period it's hard to win at college is hard to win in this league..

"C. C. as in and hopefully the profile that we continue to build so that you know people have respect for up what's going on out here let's talk this opponent tonight Pacific they come and it's ten o'clock tip there are some cars the center talk about Pacific and the challenges that they present to the consecutive what you'll Pacific one thing it's really interesting that has always really or they got in the league and if they've probably been the one thing that's been a little different than in maybe I want you and it's very much talk about you know taking seven fours and fives to step out and shoot threes made a little more finesse teams yeah these guys are physical and or top and they get happy insult a little different look than what we see it in most of our games and and west coast conference quite and I think its financing to signal Damon Stoudamire took the the program over in Stockton a couple years ago they had some some issues from the previous staff and so they have some restrictions on scholarships and visits in those types of things open for all gone now and so anything that has you know his kids in there other characters but an image a little trip was an outstanding player for them over the years who lists are really playing well right now and so it's interesting that like that their their physical team that they play tough and Gaiman has yeah you know kind of no more restrictions you know so that that will complement scholarships in those types of things now the interesting thing lead it is to see we've always kind of watch when teams come into spoke what happens you know was like what's in a clearing simpler can I think they were fifteen and three in in your character is how they can respond what we got right after him and and include right out I will go down to send a clear or we go down the stock and that's not always the case you know the names of your culture so I'm interested to see tonight will help us to become Janet and how they're able to compete against us because contractors so good at home when we get the nation as long as one street right now the a in it that to me is always that instant wanted I think again that goes back to your point about where the WCC stands is that you know some listings come in her compete in a little bit more actually.

"Had a good night. Okay. Stephen smith. Look who made it maximum in the final started. It's good to have you. Well, you understand that once the broadcast goes over the border comes an international crime, what I did to him on the air. And so that kind of thing, how some way you weren't allowed them. And I'm I'm supposed to be the one had a problem with cuts, but I found a different thing to complain about this morning. You know, I was at game one last night. And I find it very, very shocking. I saw folks at midcourt being honored and, you know the alumni members for the Toronto Raptors. I saw Thomas Charles oak. The junk junkyard dog to ro- Williams, Damon Stoudamire stuff like that. "Well, when I lived in Portland for seven years, it was a remarkable time because Portland had loads of talent, and I and I believe, to this day they were better than the Lakers Kobe team. They would have won the championship. They lost in game seven in Los Angeles and lead going into the fourth was the craziest series I've ever. Covered and they've gone from Damian Lillard but before that it was Damon Stoudamire and he was the number one high school basketball player. He was the first pick ever by the Toronto Raptors. And now we have a raptor situation where they're no longer. Knew there been around they're stable. They went a bunch of games and Damon. And this is just great is the head coach at Pacific last three years. So from one of the first families of Portland, Damon Stoudamire, Dan, how are you doing? What's going on? It's been a minute. It has been a minute. And I know you know, it's funny when I covered Portland, that team had all sorts of personalities and half the time all the player a half the time all the players hated me. But you always talked you always stood up in that locker room you never ducked interviews, and it's interesting, I'm thinking to you today. You're the first ever raptor. And a lot of people say NBA guys don't wanna plan Toronto. But I asked you once at your house, I said, did you like Toronto and Damon, you told me you loved playing in Toronto, but it's gotten a reputation where guys maybe they don't want to be there. What did you like about it? Why would it? Good. Be white could it be a good place for collide to stay? The, the diversity the city when I got there, and I and it's still the same now the diversity of the city, you know, the one thing that I didn't I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna tell you this is the one thing that I can they consider race. And I don't know why guys don't take about this now is one thing to be to be like a star in the United States. But sometimes we take for granted, you know, you could be starting to country. Hi. And I'm and I'm just telling you like you what, what is that? A guy just offers a lot penthouse to say to stay paid house, if he stayed, or he can add a pin house, like I mean, you know, we overlooked, we, we, we, we start to nickel and dime. But his reality of it, you know, when you're talking about taxes, man, once you hit a certain threshold, it don't matter, you don't get taxed anywhere. That's just that's just the game. That's what it is, is going to happen figure it out. But I think that, you know, even looking at it all over again. Like the Beatles. I didn't realize what it was like I had a whole 'nother level of popularity right over and over in Canada and endorsements was coming in crazy. And I just think that you giving up the chance to be starting to countries. That's like it's almost like being then a been artists. And, and, and when artist is, when when is when they have nothing left over here in our. In, in the United States. They always start touring. What overseas and popular is still what the same as it was in the height of their career. Yeah. I just think I think I just, you know, I look at that alone, I'm just saying, like, you know, the money's the bread man, you know, get that money, man. And, you know, be be the king of Canada to. Yeah. I mean listen. Drake is number one in Canada and he's near the top in America. That's a lot of albums man. You are selling..

"He didn't get a lot of credit for that. But knowing the game he could guard the post he actually he really scored a ball. Actually, you know, I hear a lot of people talking about I talk about it every now and again when he references those Detroit teams ever, she was a selfish guy. He could have twenty five that that was a no brainer. His turnaround jump was stoppable. I mean, he he had three point shot. I just thought he I thought he wasn't great teammate. I thought he's one he's one of my favorite teammates. You know? I thought he did a lot of I think that he did a lot of great things that that went unnoticed them. You know, I wouldn't I I wouldn't say that I wouldn't trade the ten year. I play what the world not probably I'm probably the longest tenure teammate that he had him play together for almost eight years. I mean, literally when he he got traded to Portland next summer of ninety seven, and I got traded to Portland in February of ninety eight so we literally play together, but a whole, but a whole ten Saint a lot together. I went to a lot of ups went to a lot of downs. I know his family. He knows mine. It was you know, so that that's one of my all time favorite guys. All right. That's damon. Stoudamire is now the head coach Pacific. Thank you so much for joining us today. Dave. And good luck. As you continue their at Pacific and good luck. Next season. Takedown zags, man. All right. Thank you. That's damage dot my joined us on the progressive insurance line quote by and save on home insurance with progressive, new, homequote explorer only at progressive dot com. Great stuff. Yeah. Rashid loss. Everybody says he was a great team. But my God was that guy craziest Damon Stoudamire said, I don't have a lot of stories about him. But he could've averaged twenty five points game. He had that turnaround jump shot, Rasheed. Wallace was great that blazers team. And they were so damn good Scottie Pippen was in his post private. He was still a really good player. Remember Steve Smith was on that team as well. Damon Stoudamire running the point guard, and then you had a young Rasheed Wallace that was even more athletic than he was obviously towards the end of his group. But that team was great Rick Adam and coaching that team, and they went up against those Los Angeles, Lakers and went to seven games, if you're a member there is that I conduct play where Kobe Bryant through the alleyoop to shack. That's that's series against the blazers. That was an unbelievable drag-out series yet Scottie Pippen going up against Phil Jackson. I mean that was just absolutely incredible to watch that series in men and. It makes me miss the nineties early two thousands era of basketball because those teams despised each other. They really really disliked each other. All right. A lot more coming up today in what's going to happen in a game seven between the Sixers and the raptors between the blazers and the nuggets Breitbart with you right here on ESPN radio. With matt. What caused me to fade? The pick is because I believed that the team because they had not traded. Josh Rosen that they were going to realize that the draft capital they spent last year they were a bad football team a bad football team last year. And they've got veterans who do not want to eat bad again. So I thought they were going to say look Josh Rosen up, but he's good enough. He's good enough for the offense with skill players around him like the Johnson in Christian kurkin, Larry FitzGerald, we're comfortable. We're gonna draft you off. It's later in the draft to shore up the line but Rosen's the quarterback because we hired Clifton very four. Josh rosen. So look cliff. I know you really want your guy. I know you wanted him pushing the with met for all weekday afternoons from one.
