Jones, Barkley lead Giants past Texans 24-16 for 7-2 start
"You knew when the Houston Texans faced the New York Giants Sunday the running backs would be a big part of the story and they were rookie Damian pierce racking up 94 yards while saquon Barkley carried the ball a career high 35 times for a 152 The difference though when the Giants 24 16 home win was the defense forcing two turnovers and limiting the Texans to field goals in their last two possessions The giant 72 started their best since going 8 and one to start the 2008 season Matt Michael she's Rutherford

"Is widely available, still some three -25 out there. And I understand there's some guys that based upon some of these results this season are valuing the numbers like three and 7 a little bit differently. But what I can tell you is. The data that we have is absolutely primo. And in a game with the total at 42, you can actually still see value in the buy two three up until minus one 32. So what encourage you to buy two to three on the colts at anything better than that price. And that will be the best bet this week. Hey, I mean, it's all about the numbers. That's the name of the game. I know there are a lot of folks out there that are detractors when it comes to buying points, but you can not run the math. And when it comes to identifying an edge, you do the things that give you the best opportunity to cash tickets week in, week out in the National Football League or other gambling pursuits. Indianapolis Colts plus the field goal on the buy, the best bet for this week, and we'll hope that Matt Ryan continues his renaissance as people wanted to take him out behind the barn and shoot him like old yeller when he looked like an old man in the first couple games of the season. One thing I want to ask you, by the way, fire away. But it's an interesting conversation because we talked about it a little bit off air and through text message. What do you make of this Texans raiders game? I think it's an interesting game for a number of reasons when you look at the Houston Texans. They haven't exactly been stout stopping the run. So that's obviously a major cause for concern and we saw Josh Jacobs get going in two games more in accumulator stats than anything you would define as overly efficient. Meanwhile, this is a raiders team. I mean, the numbers don't lie. They're not the kind of franchise over the last couple of years, especially with Derek Carr and her center, that runs away and hides from their opponents. They've struggled immensely, especially as favors of more than a field goal. You look at some of the mattress for the Houston Texans, and that secondary is actually performing better than I anticipated coming into the year. I think for football nerds out there watching Derek stingley potentially match up with Davante Adams is a very fascinating dynamic because the card atoms connection hasn't been what we thought it was going to be. Yes, the big plays have been there, but when you talk about receptions as a percentage of target share, far and away has underwhelmed, hunter renfrow hasn't been nearly as big a piece of the offense as he wants for stretches last year. I don't know what the hell is going on with Darren Waller. But with this number hovering around a touchdown, look, I don't love the Texans on the road more than anybody, but I think it's a fascinating game because Houston has shown an ability to run even behind a beleaguered offensive line. Waller still has not practiced yet this week. So I came in initially saying to myself, I'm going to be really intrigued by the Texans and obviously there's a group that nibbled a little bit at Chris yesterday. Yeah, see you in the 6 and a half there now. Then I dug into this just a little bit. And the weirdness of this season and at some point here will divulge what that is. It is all about scheme here for me with this one because the Raiders defensively has done a better job stopping the run than the pass. And you kind of indicated that some of the run metrics for Houston are a little bit phony, right? Damian pierce is just an absolute monster right now. He has been fantastic breaking tackles. You're looking at an offensive line that's not creating a bunch of push, their bottom 5. And yards allowed before first contact. So it's very much the Damien pierce show. And so then all of a sudden, if you're not running the ball here, it's just on Davis mills. The interesting part of this game and why this season has been difficult. We've talked about two high shell a little bit in the usage of it. It's oddly not as much of an increase as people have been led to believe. First three quarters on early downs year over year, it's actually only like a 2% uptick in usage of two high shell. And the Houston Texans had about a team that were running too high shell at a below average rate. And then all of a sudden, against Trevor Lawrence pre buy. Spiked it up to more than 85%, which was the highest rate used, and more than two years. And so if Houston is going to come out with that same game plan, they become intriguing because Derek Carr has not shown well against that type of coverage. I just don't know if they're going to come out in that coverage. And so it really becomes about X's and O's and scheme there. And I was just having trouble assessing that game and wanted to hear your opinion on it. Well, knowing that we only broke down four games, curious to get your take from a football fans the end pointer teams that you're curious about. Is there a game you're looking forward to watching that we haven't covered? Not necessarily from a gambling perspective, but that you're fascinated to see unfold. I would say Cleveland and Baltimore simply because I didn't understand the move downward on Cleveland from 7 down to 6 and it seems like someone smart woke up in late last night late the 6 on the ravens. I didn't understand that initial move and there's a little bit of a battle going on with that total. So just from that perspective, I'm intrigued to watch that game. Yeah, it makes a ton of sense. I guess if I'm thinking about it that way, I have a weird morbid curiosity with Denver Broncos football. So far this season, given how many times you can't do it. Given so many times we've seen them in prime time. Let's see how the jets handle a little bit of prosperity and expectations. I know some prominent NFL journalists have said this team has a significantly higher ceiling. I'll ask the question, have they watched the jets operate offensively? It's breece hall and basically not much else. But hey, full credit to Robert sella and what this team is doing in a rebuild, they just have to figure out if they have the quarterback, they can get them, where they want to go and compete with the Buffalo Bills atop the AFC east. Thank you Douglas has added some talent there. That's the roster's been upgraded. It's been upgraded a ton. I mean, we said that in the wake of the draft, it's hard, you know, it's terrible as it say to swing and miss with multiple first round picks, but sauce gardener has been a slam dunk thus far and is only going to get better. Breece hall has been outstanding in the backfield and when you look elsewhere on the roster, they check a number of boxes. So for the first time in a while, jets fans have something to be optimistic about going forward but I just don't want to see them get set up for failure thinking some of what they've seen the first 6 games will be indicative of how this team will perform over the next 11. As always, I want to thank all of you our loyal listeners for tuning into the show. Again, we do all of this for you guys and I know you missed us last week we miss being here for you as well. So hopefully you've been able to take a couple of nuggets from our four deep dives this weekend.

"We have the appropriate sound effects? We've heard an amen. We've got the music, man. Working on the music. So let me tell you how this came about, rich. I did this segment last week, and I was using the him. Something on YouTube made a comment about a hymnal. And I was like, and I told brockman, I woke up in the middle of the night on Sunday, and went, wait a minute. I got this, and then Michael Irvin came in Monday, did the micro Irving thing, and I was like, that's a sign. That's a sign that we got to go this way. So we're going to go this route. We're going to see how this works. Okay. You got the floor. A music chair? Here we go. Ladies and gentlemen, I didn't come here to preach to you today. But I want you to do well in fantasy, right? So I want to, I want to teach you, I want to show you the way I want to lead you to the path of glory and righteousness on fantasy football Sunday. So I'm going to give you a few men to follow in a few men to not follow rich eyes. And you know what I'm saying to you right now, okay? So these players right now, we're going to start with the players. They don't want you to win. So they ain't him. These are the players that you got to sit out. You can't put these players on the field. If you hope to find fantasy glory. And that is Carson Wentz against Dallas. Now let's talk about this here, people. The Dallas Cowboys, they're going to set Carson went to life. And he was sac 9 times last week. By the eagles, so brother Parsons, brother Lawrence, they're going to show the way the fantasy glory. Carson Wentz, you don't want him this weekend. Miles Sanders against Jacksonville. I'm sitting miles Sanders rich because the eagles are rolling. You know the eagles are rolling rich, but the touches. They're starting to be split more in the red zone. And brother hurts fine passing. He's elevating other people. Therefore, brother Sanders, we're going to have to have him sit down this week and Dawson Knox. You see when brother, we're brother Allen throwing the ball 63 times and he's only looking at Dawson Knox four times that tells me that there's too much talent there in Buffalo. Therefore, brother Knox, he's got to sit down. You see, he's not going to lead you to the capacity. He's not going to lead you to the path of glory. Those are the ones. They don't want to win. They don't want you to win. Hey man, they are not him. Can I get any man? Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Now these players. You see, these players are going to lead you down the path of righteousness and glory. You see, they are the resurrection. He faces a defense that has allowed 6 touchdowns to wide receivers in three games. Done it for people's Jones. He is him. Damian pierce, even though we got the name spelled wrong up there on the board. You know what I'm saying? I put my money on pierce to continue. You see, because it's charges, you see, mister Bosa, he's out, that defense might be hurting a little bit. Consecutive weeks running back supposed to RB one finishes against the LA defense. So we're going to look at Damien pierce as someone. He might be him, brother brockman, and then Jamal Williams. You know, we fell in love with him doing hard knocks. His representing the D I agree. And he's an RB 5 and standard format. So look for brother brother Williams to go ahead and find that glory. Find that end zone and lead you to prominence and people lead you to the land of milk and honey this week. But there is one more now. I got to tell you, there's a man out there that we got love for. We got love for him. You know what? This week he is not him. This week, you got to think of what your gut and you got to say on Monday night. You got to sit Matthew Stafford. You

"You had Tim Kelly, the Texans OC. I think he was a little bit too run heavy, especially on early downs and you look at some of the EPA production stuff on those early down runs for the Texans. It was quite literally the worst mark for any team in the NFL since 2000. Now you think about a rookie quarterback being thrown into the fire and the offense running far too much on first down and not being efficient on those first down runs. You had an uphill battle. But when Davis mills was actually allowed to throw on first down, he was 14th and EPA per pass, not bad there. And then you look at some of the lack of help from the coaching staff, Davis mills completion percentage above expectation, 13th, also had a one 24 passer rating on throws of 20 plus yards. That was the best deep ball passer rating in the NFL among qualifying quarterbacks. I think you're going to see a little bit more of some scheme help. For Davis mills, maybe the play calling enhances the weapons are a little bit better. Then you kind of put this in context last year. We talk about not loving the coaching staff, not loving the game plan. Not loving the play calling. Questionable weaponry. On more than 19% of Davis mills drop backs last season. Zero pass catchers were considered open. It was the third highest rate in the league. So it's tough to be productive when nearly one 5th of your drop backs. None of your pass catchers are open. You look in terms of what's around Davis mills. I think he does get some help with the offensive line, right? Kenyan green at guard, he was the 15th pick. Hamilton appears smart enough to move Titus Howard back to his natural position of right tackle. So I think the offensive line should be a little bit better with just those two pieces. Damian pierce wasn't really a workout warrior by any stretch or elite in college, but he does have some nice traits and he's been all the talk in Texans camp. Marlon Mack, maybe he contributes, and I know he's returning from an Achilles injury, but he did have some bursts there when he was healthy. Then Brandon cooks. That guy just continues to get crapped on, but he just keeps producing. It was like 9th among qualifying receivers and true catch rate last year. And for a 5, ten receiver, cook had the 16th best contested catch rate. He was responsible for more than 39% of the Texans air yards. He finished 11th in EPA. I think he still has some juice. He showed an ability to create separation versus man coverage as well. Obviously I think they Texans were dealt a little bit of a blow there with the John metchie news and it looks like he's going to be out for the season as he battles leukemia hopefully overcomes that. But you look at Niko Collins, brevin Jordan, those were two young guys that can potentially make the leap and become some real contributors here. If you look at the snaps combined between those two guys, 548 in total, both graded out very well all things considered. Can they increase that rate of production as the snaps increase? That'll be something to monitor, but you look at Nico Collins. He's had a fantastic camp so far. Brevin Jordan only had 28 targets last season, but he had a one 24 passer rating when targeted. That was third best among tight ends. Other thing to consider here Todd. Texans faced a fringe top 5 schedule of defenses last year. Now Houston projects to face a bottom third of the league slate here. I think there's some room for progression with Davis mills. You got Nico and brevin Jordan in year two, a little bit of a better offensive mind and pep slightly improved offensive line and running back play. It's the weakest division in football. Plus you look at the Texans. They get Chicago, Washington, the Giants in Cleveland, possibly without deshaun Watson. So there is some room for improvement, I think. You know, you mentioned Brandon cooks and I think what he's done over the last couple of years in the NFL. He has become the model of consistency and he does it in an unassuming role under the radar. We know he's dealt with a laundry list of concussions that have kept him shelled, but cooks his top ten in the NFL in receiving yards and yards per catch over the last 7 seasons. It comes off a career high with 90 receptions last year. So you talk about an underrated weapon. Is he Justin Jefferson? Is he Jamar chase? Absolutely not. But he is definitely serviceable as a number one. You just wish to your point. There was a little bit more depth behind him for the Houston Texans. And of course, you talked a little bit about Damien pierce, who was all the rave in the wake of how he performed in the first preseason game. This is a kid during his four seasons of Florida that never was really utilized as a lead back, seeing a majority of his carries inside the red zone. And it was a role he actually flourished in recording 11 of his 13 touchdowns from inside the 20 yard line. So behind that improved offensive line, you do wonder if the Texans can provide a slightly more balanced attack. For this team defensively, I mean, it was a whole lot of varying degrees of bad, a season ago. And when you're talking about where they ranked in a lot of key defense in metrics, most of them outside the top 30 others outside the top 25. So they went out there, they visit a senior citizen home and decided that was going to be how they could help their pass rush, bringing in guys like Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison that are on the wrong side of 30. They do however address some of the deficiencies in their secondary specifically with Derek stingley as a top three pick and getting jaylen Pitt out of Baylor in the second round. When you try and assess where the Texans are going defensively, we know lovey smith's fingerprints are going to be all over this, but I'd have to imagine after hitting rock bottom, this team only has one direction to go. It's up. It's just a question of how high they can climb. Yeah. You know, listen, I don't know what lobby Smith is and he did have some relative success in the mid 2000s with your beloved Chicago Bears. Your crew loves the bear. So we always have to talk about the bears. They do. They're the ones that want to send Justin Fields right to canton despite having a rocky rookie season. Then you kind of look at lovey Smith in 14 and 15 and he went 8 and 24 with the Buccaneers was fired after two seasons, and then the following year he transitioned to the college game where he went 17 and 39 over 5 years. I think it's impossible to be worse than David gulley. But this doesn't really feel like a long-term hire for the Houston Texans. And to this point, love you really hasn't shown an ability to morph his style to today's games. Immediately last year he went to a four three base when taking over the Texans, D.C. job. And now levy claims he's going to be a little bit more adaptable this season defensively. Let's see. The Tampa two defense was successful in the mid 2000s. It just doesn't work well in today's past happy environment. Now, again, lobby claims he's added some nuances. But last season, the detections didn't play a single defensive snap of diamonds with 6 players in the secondary on the field. So really wasn't conducive to what teams are doing offensively. The talent love he worked with obviously wasn't great last year, sugarcoating that and you kind of depicted that at the top. But at no point pre or post Biden, we see any improvement from the Texans defense.

Scott's Edinburgh back here with you is to look ahead here on Visa in rejoined by Frank Schwab from Yahoo sports. You hit him up on Twitter at Yahoo Schwab and let's talk quarterback battles Frank and we'll start off with the name that we talked about already and that is Kenny Pickett. So if you were placing your wager right now, who starts week one for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mitchell trubisky, or Kenny Pickett. You know, I do have to say this at least that I know this sounds funny. I don't think you could totally discount mason Rudolph either. Like mason Rudolph is, he was second in the game. He is by all accounts been the best quarterback in their camp. Now some of that is just familiarity and all that kind of stuff, but they're the dive to George pickens. He played really well. I don't know. I'm not saying he will, but we at least need to mention his name. Because I still think he's in the competition. I think it's trubisky. The fact that he was first and he played just fine. Like I mean, I don't like the world off. I already also threw just 7 passes. How about trubisky played pretty well? I thought he was fine. Picket came in and we have to remember like look, the box score looked good, but as I said before, he's throwing a lot of short safe passes and he's doing it against third floor stringers. It's not like my Tomlin goes back and watches the film and it was like, oh my God, these are starter week one. I don't think so. I think he knows the context. I still think it's trubisky. He has a job he didn't do anything really to take a step back. Now, I think the next two weeks are big. Like I think however these guys, these three guys play the next couple of weeks is going to be big, but if I had to bet right now I'd take for Biscay because I think he holds them off. At least for a week one. But if you look, by the way, if you look, they have a really tough September schedule. By October, I would assume anything. All right, well let's go a little further south to Carolina and is it going to be Sam darnold or Baker Mayfield? I'd like to Trump this up like, oh, we're going to have it. It's Baker Mayfield. What are we doing here? What is Matt rule thinking? Like you didn't live through the whole. You tried to replace Sam darnold, all off season. You finally get the trade dud for Baker Mayfield and then you're like, I don't know who I started quarterback is like, come on. Come on, Matt. We don't own the kid anything. You don't owe the kid anything. You just go with the guy who's going to be your starter and that's going to be big. At baker, for all bakers falls when he has some. He has played well in the NFL. We can't say that about Sam, but last year he was hurt. That was a big factor. Am I saying Baker Mayfield is going to be a top ten quarterback? No, but he's clearly the best quarterback on that roster. Start preseason game one. I don't know why. I don't know why they're going through this charade. I really don't. It's baker's job, and I'd be absolutely floored if he's not the starter, I don't think. To the Pacific Northwest we go to Seattle, is it going to be Geno Smith or drew lock? Now, the thing about this one is there's been no signs that it's not. Like the whole off season PETA said is genome. She knows the number one. He's taken, I guess, pretty much all the reps with the first team. He took all the reps with the starters. I'm against Pittsburgh, but I will say drew lock played well. And I'm not a drew lock supporter. I based here in Denver. So I've seen it heard and had to talk about drew lock a lot. And I just don't think he's a viable NFL starting quarterback. But I thought he all played Gino. I really did. I thought he pushed a ball downfield a little more. Gino was very safe. And he played fine. He was a good game manager type and Pete's going to like that because Pete Carroll just wants a handle off a few times a game. And maybe that maybe that's why genome has been supplanted yet. But I take Geno for now, but I'll say this drew's got a shot. If he plays like he did against Pittsburgh again week two and week three, look, the traded form for a reason included him in that trade for a reason. I think he's got a higher upside at least a genome genome is a safer bet, but I take judo for now, but I'll say the little door is open for drew lock facility. It's amazing. You give a wide receiver all this money in the off season. You're going to want to throw him the football, right? He's a big dude. He's going to block a lot. That's what 26 million gets you now for DK back half. I guess that's what you're paying for him to block on the outside. Sure. Why not? Let's look at the awards market here and since we're talking about some quarterbacks and young players, let's go to The Rookie of the year. Offensive rookie of the year, Kenny Pickett is getting some love, Drake London, getting love as well, give me your take on the offensive rookie of the year market. It's a weird one because usually, okay, any awards market right, we started the quarterback. Because voters start quarterbacks. They worked our way back. I don't think Kenny Pickett is necessarily the guy to win there. And I don't know any other quarterback that's really in the hunt. So you almost have to, look, if you want to take Kenny Pickett, it's not the worst play in the world, but I don't think there's much value there. I don't want to wait on him. I wish that he would have talked to be a week ago because George pickens name is now just so hot that a lot of value has been extracted. But you look at how he plays and I know I'm buying into training camp hype and pre season hype, but you look at that toe tap touchdown he had in week one and even a play made on the sideline. You're like, this guy's legit. He looks like he belongs on an NFL field. And it's not like the Steelers aren't competent in the passing game. I know trubisky's not the greatest quarterback in the world, but he can still get the ball up some receivers and picket can too apparently. So I'm all under the pickens train right now. I think he's got a real chance. They are keep in mind, Damian pierce. I thought it looked really good. The Rookie running back for the Texans. It's all about opportunity. I want a guy who's going to play most of the season. I think Romeo dubs is a guy. I guess his Dobbs. I keep calling him dubstep 'cause it sounds cooler. The Green Bay Packers rookie with Christian walker missing some time. It seems like he's the kind of flavor of the month in Green Bay as far as her rookie receivers go like he's got a shot, but I do believe that somebody down the list, especially if you bet pickens early or some of these other guys early. It's not going to be one of these. It's not going to be breeze hall. It's not going to be candy picket. It's going to be somebody down the list and there's going to be some big tickets being cash when offense rookie of the year is settled. It'll be somebody that in this market changes all the time, but watch it be like Desmond Ritter, you know? Like Marcus Mariota. Week one and you're holding a Desmond Ritter ticket. Exactly. Sam hall, Sam, how's another name? We all make the oh, it's just pre season game one, but Carson Wentz has been hurt his whole career gets hurt. Sam hall gets that starting job as sooner, rather than later, he could do some things that getting race to it. I don't know what his odds are now, but he is way, way down the board. Yeah, Sam Howell is 75 to one. Yeah. You would love it. If I should webs pulls a Carson wets against hurt and week three, you would enjoy holding that thing. Listen, Malik Willis is at 50 to one. And I have a side bet with somebody off air that Malik Willis plays by midseason. So it could happen because I'm down on the Titans. I'm very down on the Titans. Yeah. All of a sudden it was 34, I believe, maybe even 35 is a little older than we think. And all of a sudden, if they're, you know, three and 6. Well, they got this Ferrari in the garage. Like, why not try it out? So I agree with you. I think he's viable, too. I bet I bet that Malik Willis would be the starter by week 8. So, you know, we'll see, we'll see what happens. It was a fun little side bet. Defensive rookie of the year. Will it be anybody outside of Aiden Hutchinson, kevon thibodeau and Trayvon walker? You know, I really like Carl laughter. The Rookie defensive end for the chiefs. And it's probably going to be a pass rusher because sex play really well. And this kid, I mean, he's going to play right away for a defensive really needs some help on a defensive line. He's going to play a lot of snaps. That was kind of his calling card at Purdue. Plays a runwell, plays a password. We saw as a bears look, the bears offensive line is horrible. It's horrible, but he was getting pressured a lot. And got a sack, he looked good, and I think Carl after us, look, I mean, if you give me all these same odds on everybody, I'd probably pick a Hutchinson, but that's not the case. Carl laughter at 16 to one. Yeah. I think that there's a value there. I think that he's going to have a shot because I think he's going to play a ton. I'm going to put up some sack numbers on a team that's going to be in a playoff race on national TV a lot, and I think he's got, I think if you're asking me outside those top three, I think Carl at this is the one I'm really looking at. Do you have an MVP bet?

And also network shows on demand and so much more. NFL plus is available on the NFL app on all platforms. So go ahead and download it today. The first week of the pre season is just getting started, NFL network has 22 live pre season games, including a double header tonight, lions, falcon, 6 p.m. eastern. Followed by packers, forty-niners at 8, 30, then a quadruple header on Saturday starting at 1 o'clock. I've said it before I say it again. It's all right here on NFL network. You just take your remote, you put it on a phone network. And then you take her out and you Patrick Mahomes and you just whip it behind your back and then you just set for the rest of the weekend. I say put it in the disposal. And then turn those. Why would you ever like to change? I like it. All right, so with week one of the preseason already underway, we wanted to take a look ahead at the rest of the games this weekend and pick a player that we're looking forward to watch. So Jason, what do you got? Well, first of all, you guys didn't say anything about my shirt. We talked about Woody Harrelson yesterday. I rocked a shirt. But I am gone with trill Williams, the Miami Dolphins, a corner Byron Jones has been banged up. Trill has an opportunity to step up on the other side of Xavier Howard. Could he be the guy in Miami to be cornerback number two, we'll say. I'm finding the Texans wherever they're on this preseason and I'm finding their rookie running back from Florida Damien pierce because this guy is angry, runs in college. We're so angry. They were actually funny. Watching running ticket and, oh no, my helmets off. You think I care? He scores against them Knowles and then screams and like this is the guy who's squarely on the watch list. Damian pierce of the Houston Texans watch him follow him, look at the hell out of his way. Who do you got, Mike? Give me Carson Wentz in the commanders. Who are they playing? I don't even know, doesn't even matter. I just want to see if Carson Wentz can be accurate because of all this talk about his inaccuracies during training camp and the commander saying, look, he's learning a new system, unlike any he's ever been in before there's going to be some growing pains while once he gets into a live game in the last time we saw him in a live game, by the way. Not so good. So you're going to want to build some confidence. There's Scott Turner, the offensive coordinator. I know he's confident in Carson Wentz. Let's see it on display. This weekend in the preseason against the, I don't know. Haven't looked at it. Absolutely. Well, naturally, I spawned the question a little bit because the Patriots already played last night, but one player I wanted to not only watch this weekend, but I wanted to wish a really special happy birthday to Devin mccordy. "Dot com. We're going through a two rounds of a rookie empire, dynasty league draft. And we already did round one last segment. Let's go to round number two. We're going to tell you where the consensus has players going. And then whether or not the consensus is getting it right or wrong, is it player going too early too late or just about right? Let's go to the first selection of round number two, pick 13 overall, Rashad white. Tampa Bay to early too late or just right. Did you know that Leonard fournette has his own flavor of wings at wingstop, which is a hot honey wing? Looks delightful, but that does not bode well for a guy who probably why he came into camp at 340 pounds. Not 300. That's a lot. Fournette's still going to have the job. He's not going to steal fournette's job right away, but everybody at buck's camp talks about Rashad white as he's really almost a veteran. He's mature. He's confident. He's been a sponge just like learning from fournette and for that's really taken him under his wing, so that's a good thing too. They're drawing a lot of comparisons to Chris Godwin and his approach. That always bodes well for rookies. So I think Rashad white might be a touch too low. I think he's got an opportunity. If anything goes wrong with fournette, he's a lead back in an elite offense. And let's remember fournette had all those soft tissue injuries in Jacksonville. They haven't popped up in Tampa to his credit and maybe Tampa's just got better trainers, whatever. But man, soft tissue injuries are they usually compound on each other. Guess how many people fournette has played in his 5 year career? Full seasons? Yeah. Exactly. He has had a 15 gamer in there, but yeah, zero. The last couple of years he's been mostly healthy to his credit. All right, the second pick, on average, the consensus second pick in dynasty rookie drafts in the second round, it's my guy Damien pierce. What do you think too high too low or about right? So I had Rashad white exactly at 13. And Damien pierce, I have one spot lower because I have Christian Watson just above him. I'm like, I have Christian Watson really low. I have him at 14. So it's about the right spot for me, honestly. I think he could easily take that back field and any running back that can take that pack field, take a backfield in his first year. Is it really decent second round pick for a dynasty week? Let me just talk about Damien pierce for a while. And by the way, he fell to me in the dynasty and go get a slice of pizza. The dynasty draft that Matt and I are in. I had picked 16 in the 16 teamer. You can do the math on that and Damien pierce got to me at 16 and I couldn't have been happier about that. And maybe I'll be proven wrong. But a he reminds me and I'm not, I hesitate to compare any rookie to a Hall of Famer, but if everything just the traits, okay? And the outside here hesitating. But you're going right forward. But it's Jerome bettis. A big player with remarkable footwork and bettis for a big guy. People just didn't get clean hits on him. We got a lot of that in pierce. And the other thing about pierce, that's wild is, they threw to them all the time in college. This big guy rumbling down seams and they're throwing 20 yards downfield in the scene to Damien pierce. Yeah, I would say they threw efficient passes. I think he caught like 19 balls last year. But they were good. They were dumb. They were Donald Trump. These were designed downfield passes to pierce. Now he was never a work horse player in college, but that doesn't mean that he can't get a lot more useful. Here and he's the only true goal line back on roster for Houston. Right now, if you've got to say, who's going to get a carry at the three yard line to score a touchdown? It's him. It's pierce. He's the guy, if there's one player that could be way off radar as a double digit touchdown scorer, Damian pierce. Do you know who's going to be Rex burkhead though? Just to piss you off. That's the only reason. That's what happens. It would be. I think James Connors last year is his, it would be a nice ceiling for oh God, that'd be amazing. A bunch of touchdowns, not a ton of pass catching, but some. The third pick of the second round in rookie dynasty drafts Isaiah spiller, sure. I believe that this is about right on spiller, but you have to wait and be patient because obviously Austin Eckler is going to get the majority of work. But what you're banking on with spiller is that Eckler had almost 100 more targets and touches. Opportunities. Last year, they had any other year of his career. And the team may have sunk valuable draft capital into spiller specifically to take away some of the workload that Eckler got it in his been asking for them to have a compliment. And when asked about that, if spiller could be that guy, Eckler said something like, he talks a lot in the film room. Which I found was fun. That's fantastic. With the fourth selection of the second round in dynasty rookie drafts, Atlanta running back Tyler algier. Is he going too high too low or about right? We're talking about a lot of runners that have a chance to take over a backfield and I think Algiers got a great opportunity there too. He's the exact opposite kind of runner as current starter Cordero Patterson in Atlanta. He's young, he's big. He's bruising. I think algier will continue to creep up ADP as August wears on, so right here at pick 16, I think he's actually going a little bit too late. I haven't met 17. By the way, that AJ Dillon league I'm in, Tyler algier is going to be in that league this year. Also, if I get any inside info, I'll let you know we can safely assume you're going to manage to work in the league you're in. AJ Dylan once every show. The league I've been with AJ Dylan add Tyler. Every week of the season. Large running backs in Scott fish's league. All right, let's go to the next selection. The 5th overall pick in dynasty rookie drafts in the second round. So 17th overall, I should say. Brian Robinson, Washington. It's too high too low or about right. I have him much lower. I think I have him in the early 20s. I think he's more of a touchdown only that I mentioned earlier. I think that backfield is going to be two split up. He will get those touchdowns, but they're a lot fluke here and a lot harder to predict that's he's generally not a guy I'm grabbing in dynasty drafts. With the, I think we're on 6 pick. The 18th overall selection in dynasty rookie drafts Alec pierce from Indianapolis. Now we've already alluded to this earlier in the show. He's getting entirely run with the first team offense. He's got running basically unopposed to be a starter opposite Michael Pittman. They'll have Paris Campbell running out of the slot. Alex pierce is fast. And its speed for him also some good contestant catches. He was a second round pick who's going to be an immediate starter in Matt Ryan's got enough left in that guy too. That's 6 three, two 102 tens, something like that. 6 three to 11. And he had a taco. That changed the whole thing. She had a four that wig. We had years ago in early fan ball lore. This is about 1990 9. I would guess. We had a weight loss contest. And most of us were relatively naive on how to win a weight loss contest, but one of our guys had broken the code. So before the way in, he did nothing but drink water and not use the bathroom, front or back for the 24 hours before that. And he comes in the morning of the way in, completely waterlogged in total pain and discomfort. He can barely walk up to the scale. Ways himself and runs to the bathroom. He killed us. He lost like four pounds just there. That's a lot of water. There's a lot of water. A gallon of water is 8 pounds. He at least a half a gallon in him.

"They probably get taken more in line with where they should get taken. Yeah. Just based on talent and I didn't put potential points they're going to score for you. I wasn't able to articulate that very well, but you did a much better job. Thank you. If your team 5, you're probably not too disappointed, though he has Herbert Eckler cook Chubb. Montgomery Elijah Mitchell. So it might not be long term, but those are going to be pretty good running backs to have for the next year or two. It's going to be a tough team to beat right off the bat. I think in this format, if you do come out and you draft 5, 6 running backs, it's going to make you one of the favorites year one, for sure. As long as your team stays healthy. And they're a little tough to trust. Yeah, and dynasty for sure. They don't even, I mean, most of them don't play a whole year because they're typically banged up it for at least a couple games. The injury risk is just so much higher. Yeah. So with the 9 6, I'm gonna take Gabe Davis. I can't pass on I want some action in that Buffalo Bills. Wide receiver core of two rob. You can't be the only one. Hey, we all have it now. Anthony took Dawson Knox. I got, oh. And digs. All three of us want a piece of it. A bunch of homers. Whoo. I was about to I was about to double down. Where are you gonna go Gabe? Yeah. I was thinking about Dawson Knox if you made it to me at the end of the 8, but we have a lot of fun. Pretty similarly. All right, well, I think my team, again, we were talking about strategy. Are you building for the future, I think I have a decent mix of guys that are 24, 25, 26, but having Keenan Allen on my team means I need to win now. So right now I'm looking at really Michael Thomas or someone like a George pickings or dotson. So one of the young guys, but since I have Keenan Allen, I'm gonna assume or hope, I guess it's probably the better word Michael Thomas gets back into somewhat of a decent version of himself and that often takes off. So I'm gonna go with Michael Thomas. Three years ago, that was real good for your wide receiver one and twos. Yeah, I think that the pick is fine. It's late in the draft. You're looking for a win now guy, but just picking Michael Thomas just feels so icky. In the playoffs. It goes 9 11. Christian Kirk at the 12 for around 9. Damian pierce to start out round ten, Brandon cooks at the 10.2. There's a good value pick there. That's very good. Yeah. Since he's on the clock. I would say since he's still available. I feel like I have to take Chase claypool at this point. I mean, he's going to take over as the number two. Another one? So Chase claypool. So my team now is Murray Stafford, javonte Williams, and then DJ Moore, scary Terry, Keenan Allen, Jameson Williams, Dawson Knox, Michael Thomas,

"The paul finebaum show. That's where we really are the dream. I think so. We've got donuts as always. We have a stacked guest list. Or we've got. Sam pittman joining the show damian pierce max johnson. Who are you most excited to talk to. You know i'm not gonna lie. I love coachman. yeah he's he's one of the nicest guys. When i was at arkansas couple of weeks ago he came up to me on the sidelines. This is before the game and he was just like. I'm really proud of what you're doing and i was like. I think you're great. I'm proud of what you're doing. He's awesome We will of course talk about the big arkansas georgia game coming up this weekend. Hog fans probably a little nervous about that one. I will say got to see that georgia defense up close and personal this past week graha. They're tough yeah. That's what i was gonna ask. You saw them in person like are they bigger faster stronger in person because they're big fast and strong on tv. It's unbelievable we were on this show last week. Saying one thing. I know one thing i think i know one thing i wanna to find out more about and my one thing i know last week was georgia defense. Best defense in the country. After the person. I interviewed jordan davis after that game. Sixty two nothing by the way is the finals. Sixty two nothing. I looked like a three year. Old next. To jordan davis. Yeah i can see that. Three hundred fifty pound six foot when i was just like. Hey arm doesn't cramp holding this. I would like semi bet. He's going to beat you in a race. Like he's that big but he can move. The guy can move on a little offended by that. I don't see anything run track and field. He's he's We also have a really fun piece coming up on the show with you. An auburn a couple of auburn tigers. Who you were there as they got it out that win this past weekend l. p. so i spent some time with sukuzi mclean in chandler. Newton their linebackers auburn and that linebacker unit coach. Hartson has said is kind of the core of the team at georgia state. I'm not gonna lie. That first half they were getting hit. I mean running up the middle georgia state had success running the football which is something that has been pretty good at but the kobe mclean. Didn't play in the first half and the difference that i've visibly saw you talk about seeing teams on the sidelines when i was on the sidelines in the second half in kobe mclean was back on the field. Energy was lifted. Everybody was playing harder. He's hyping everybody up getting the fans involved in so just to kind of talk to him since time with him. He's goofy he can dance chandler dad of the team right just many time with both of them. I mean it was great. Chandler wooten ricochet rabbit. Correct toby mclean ricochet koby yet A coby also. The guy who in summer workouts was like eating crab legs on the football field. You know pretty sure. It wouldn't surprise as our producer. J. mac just just reminded me at a fund auburn team nonetheless. You did do that game though as we get ready for the show tonight auburn one of those teams that were still trying to figure out what was the biggest takeaway from that game for you. Well i think the impact of the. Kobe mclean on defense huge. They obviously made a quarterback change. And i notice tj finley when he got in the game the energy was lifted like everyone seemed really excited about what he could bring in coach. Arsons that after the game it wasn't a knock on bo. It wasn't a knock him at all. He just thought they needed something different. So i'm interested to see. It's interesting because tj finley played lsu so while he might be a big lift. Lsu's familiar with him as well. So is that going to work. And then their receivers there were a lot of passes that were through the receivers hands. They got a new receivers coach. How much impact is that going to make in one week. No but they're going to have to make some place that's going to be a fun game. We've got so many good games. It's unbelievable coming up in this week. We haven't even mentioned ole miss alabama yet. We're going to talk about that game as well and really get into some of the numbers because if you forgot about that match up from twenty twenty i believe it was one hundred eleven. Total points scored between those two. Were really going to break down. What these two offenses look like. And what both of these two teams need to do to get the win. Because if you ask me. It's not signed sealed deliver alabama certainly this year and. I'm very excited for this for picking our top five players across the sec. And we're gonna see how our teams go head ahead. Mine.

"Absolutely yeah. I'm i'm lucky if i get my seven words in a game when you and i work together in only when you ask for my seven words allowed to give them. So that's right. I'm actually sitting in my basement in atlanta where i broadcast most of our college football games this past year. I understand. i'll actually be able to spend some time with you during the college football season this year so without boring people with our personal stories. Let saga about what we can. Expect in the sec. This year is is the The meat grinder of the west going to be the complete opposite of what we should see in the east in the sec. This year or an simplifying too much. I don't think it will be completely opposite. But i do agree with you in the west because it just doesn't look like it doesn't look like anybody's really trending down in that division i think. Lsu really has a chance to bounce back and not going anywhere. I know there's a quarterback competition but everything around them really points to him having a good season that almost offense people need to go look at at at the at the reception by the guys returning. It's not just the fact that you lose it tied in and you lose analyzer more. They've got a lot of production back at that position. I you're going to be fine there. I understand that. There's a coaching change at auburn and the system schemes. Going to be a little bit different but has some confidence in that coaching staff. I think the defensive front and the defense altogether under derek mason could be a little bit better than people think you and i had state a couple of times late last year and it really did feel like once. The injection of youth was made into that offense things looked to be heading in the right direction. And we were both impressed by zach arnett. I don't think that defense is going to go anywhere. Even with a little the leadership gone and obviously we know what sam's doing and say bill is pretty special. They have won best receivers in college football coming back and by the way a former. Sec head coach coordinating defense. Didn't amazing job last year. I think there are still parts of florida that are dangerous. We know what georgia and he spent a ton of time on them. There's was a favorite of the division. They're one of the teams in a lot of people are going to point to and say yes they could be in the playoff and they could potentially go in the national championship I think that with what. Florida has back people. Just look at what's gone. And they sort of forget that what returns i think with a little bit more mobility at quarterback. It may fit what they're muller wants to do a little bit more I still think with guys. Like jacob copeland back damian pierce back the skill positions not like. It's just gonna completely fall off the bat. They have guys defensive sort of been waiting to bust out. I thought it was going to be last year for mohamed day. Still might be this year for that group. I makes us to see how they sort of operate on defense on grantham is full attack mode all the time but he he may have to draw back a little bit. If florida's really gonna be better the offense vines gotta come around. That's that's why hasn't been there for coach mullen since he's been in gainesville. I think we both know that. Kentucky's got a real shot. I mean now. All of a sudden you bring in one del robinson from nebraska. You got to transfer receivers from the power five. That could really begin to help you. Stretch the field with a new offense. And maybe a new quarterback being a boa allen will leave us. Maybe joey gatewood that can find ways to stretch the field something. They haven't really been successful doing most. That front sevens back off into line. Still going to be good still going to be physical. And i think i think coast drink with in. Missouri has an absolute stud on the corner. Basically i think he has a chance to be very good quarterback and then also i think south toronto to get a couple of wins that people don't really see and mainly because the defensive line kingsley leaning he's the guy that not a lot of people talk about. We know that they've recruited well at the jordan. Bentley's going gonna be back at one of the highest profile recruits in coming out of high school football last year. That's been on that defensive. Line nice group of tight ends good group running backs i think. South carolina gets a couple of games at some people. Don't think tennessee invaded about the ones that i think most of us aren't really sure exactly where they're gonna find a ton of wins but i don't think it's going to be georgia separated by three four games by whoever finishes. Second in the sec. Each the exodus of talent at tennessee has left. We'll leave them down looking up and remains to be seen how quickly they can replenish the tank. There i i think what you might have in the east and by the way we're going to have a huge game the first sec game of the season. September eleventh missouri at kentucky because that's going to have implications rest of the year in that division. But i think what you're talking about is teams that are going to be down tennessee's in the vanderbilts and i would put south carolina in the conversation. They're going to allow those other teams more rest than you would typically get during an sec season to be primed..
