"If they went to auto Porter and said, hey, we'll give you a starting job and we'll give you our taxpayer mid level and they were willing to add on years as well and auto said, you know what? My wife's from Toronto or something like that. I promised her we would go, so no. Like if that's the case, you can't be upset with the organization. Same thing with Malik monk. The Lakers offer Malik monk, the most they could, Malik said the kings can give me more and And so I'm not upset. The Lakers didn't mishandle that situation at all. They did everything they possibly could. Yeah, same. I'm in agreement. If they offer a guy, whatever they can, whatever they have at their disposal, and they still say no, you kind of have to move on. So my initial thought with that Lonnie walker trade, or the signing was, they probably read the market, they said, none of these guys want to come to our team for the taxpayer. Let's just go to our next target and lock them up as soon as we can before someone else swoops in. And he's a clutch guy. And he's a clutch guy. He's a college guy. And look, there's no, it could be that halfway through the season, we're going, man, we're glad they got Lonnie walker. Sure. He's 23 years old. He's 6, like, I don't like that he's 6 four. I wanted to do a guy who was a wing who could defend and all that. But he's 6 four with a 6 ten wingspan. He's a kind of a freak athlete. He's not a good defender. Kind of. But can you make him into an asshole? Maybe the spurs couldn't, so that worries me a little bit, but I mean, it's not, this isn't a definite that it's going to look like a bad signing in a few months. Not enough. I think it's pretty reasonable to expect some improvement just guys typically improve your tier in the NBA, especially when they start out so young. I think it's pretty reasonable for us to expect them to maybe live up to that contract. Maybe even exceed the perceived value of it. I don't think that's out of the remote possibility. I think that's what's going to happen. Sorry, they took the Malik monk blueprint. And they copied and pasted it. Yeah. With the exception of like Juan justino Anderson Damian Jones, but you look at Troy Brown junior, they look at Alana walker, these are second draft guys. These are guys who did not work with their initial team and in case the Troy Brown junior initial first two teams. And they went and brought them in to see if they click in this different environment. That's exactly what they did with Malik monk and it worked out great. Yeah. Go ahead. No, no, Sean Gordon. No, I was just going back to your last point about Lonnie walker and him being a passable defender..

"Let's see what else we've got here. Oh, Eric says Damien Jones, my guy. Yes, I would love to see Damien Jones back. Again, you're not going to go break the bank to get Damien Jones, but his skill set pretty much what the Lakers could use. I was disappointed the Lakers let him go last season, was hoping they wouldn't, I know the Lakers were hoping the kings would not pick up his option for this year. They thought they weren't going to. We probably had that not happened. Had the kings not picked up his option, Damian Jones, the Lakers would have gone after him, and we probably would have seen the Lakers team with Damien Jones rather than Deandre Jordan. I think when Damien Jones option got picked up, that was when the Lakers switched and went over to Deandre Jordan instead. I would have much rather had Damien Jones and may, look, if they can get them, if they can get them, I'd love to see it. They can get them. I would love to see it. But I would not assume that's going to happen. Somebody said, would Jeff Jeff said, we really love Damien Jones. Look, I know. There's some players. Everybody's got these players in the NBA that you just irrationally love this player on your team. And Christian wood is the guy that I've brought up a lot that I would love to see over on the Lakers. Again, I'm probably too far into being a supporter of that player coming to the Lakers. It's where I'm probably a little bit biased on that. So again, I will readily admit that, but hey, I like his skill set, Damian Jones, Christian wood as well. Think they'd be nice bits for the right price. Jeff Jeff, we signed Drummond over Damian Jones. I know. I know. And by the way, I don't think letting Drummond go this last off season was the right move..

"General. Damian Jones. Bring him back. I should have never let him laugh. That's right. Leave. But go get him. Go get a guy like a Damien Jones or another big 'cause I guarantee you the bigs you can get at a better minimum. I think we kind of saw this season. The bigs, a better minimum compared to a big, at the compared to a wink at the better minimum completely different. The wings, quality of wings at bedroom minimum are not that good. Compared to taxpayer level. Now, we should mention to getting those wings that we're talking about, it's not easy. Every team in the NBA wants those guys. Every team is after that specific skill set. Teams want as many of those guys as they can possibly get so they get expensive. I mean, look, Dorian Finney Smith got a big deal from the Mavs. He's been really good. I've been really good. But a lot of people just see him as, oh, he's just a role player. Yeah, but he fits that skill set. Look at what Mikael bridges is done. For the sons, you find guys like that. They tend to get paid, you can find some guys like an auto Porter junior, how much does he get? That's the name that I've been on quite a bit. If you could find that, great, but you might not be able to. So that's where it's a little bit of a bit of a challenge. So let's see. People say Damien Jones is not that good. We're not saying he's good. We're saying, would you rather have Damien Jones for the minimum or would you rather give Mitchell Robinson 40 million for the next four years? Because that might be what it takes to get him. And then the Lakers can't do that. And then be stuck with player Y on a veteran minimum to be your three and D wing up. Trevor reads the two. That's three and D wing off the bench like, no. No, that's not. Just get you need to get Trevor ariza, Delorean..

"Damian Jones, even. This guy is going to be the starter. Dwight, you're going to be the backup. You're going to play ten minutes most nights. Some nights you won't play at all. Some nights we might have to lean on you for 15, but that's about it. Yeah, okay. Sign me up for that. I'm fine with bringing back the white Howard in that role. Ask him to be the starter, I think, is too much. I don't think it's a path to team success. I also don't think it's a successful for Dwight. I think you're asking too much of him to do that. I don't think it's fair to him to put him in that spot. So I'm okay with Dwight with the caveat that he needs to be the backup center. There needs to be another true center on the roster that can manage those minutes. And then as far as Carmelo Anthony goes, if he wants to come back, sure. But if I'm rob plink and I'm doing it with the understanding that, hey, you might not be in every night player this next season. I think the talent is there, but if the shot's not fallen, he can hurt you out there on the floor too. So just kind of understanding that, hey, as you get older, that role will probably diminish a little bit. You shouldn't expect to be like our first guy off the bench or anything of that. And if he's cool with that, yeah, yeah, then I'm okay with bringing back mellow as well. I have a bit of a proposition, I guess, is the word I'm looking for. If you go get a big AD next year going into seasons, you're probably your four. You get a big, so let's say it's Damian Jones or Sean Holmes or one of these other guys that could be potentially available. Nicholas clacks is another one that could be interesting. You go with them at the 5. If knock on wood, one of those guys get hurt, I'm still in like the wife to your backup. I'm still not starting to why I'll go in this is why you probably want to go get a wing defender that's kind of long that can play stretch for or that is a true for. You put AD at the 5 as more of a backup position in case of injury and then Dwight still basically what I'm saying is don't have Dwight start next. You're pretty much at all. Go get a big that can start put 80 at the four and then again knock on wood if one of those things get hurt just slot AD down to the 5, bring one of your wing players off the bench and plot them into the starting lineup because I really don't think I don't think Dwight Howard should start at all next season. Yeah. I don't think it's a good thing for the Lakers if he's starting. I don't think it's a good thing for Dwight Howard to be starting it as well. I don't think that's the way you want it to be for him. Tom Elle, Westbrook for healed straight up. That deal, if the Lakers can clear that kind of money, but that doesn't work. Cap space wise, the pacers would need to send out more salary. But I mean, that's what we've heard is Westbrook two, the pacers for buddy healed and Malcolm Brogdon and others been pushed back from the pacers side because of course. We've got a long ways to go before the Lakers can complete a trade like this. Westbrook has to pick up his player option for next season before this can be done. By the way, it's never, ever, ever going to happen. But Russ, like if he doesn't pick up that player option..

"Ellington available. But my expectation is they'll offer some sort of asset for Deandre Jordan. Agreed. Yeah, I think that's the way they're going to go. All right, we do need to get into the master lock of the night. I've got a few more questions that we're going to get into too as well, but we're running along as usual. When you and I get together, we just point up, we wind up doing these marathon shows, which is the way it is. It's a good time. But let's say about your other guests. Just says that they are not quite as long winded as you are on basketball topics, I guess. They don't mix in and I'm not saying that a bad way. They don't mix in the relationship analogies. That's true. Like you do. That's true. So Sean Chris, whoever else has hopped on the show, get on that, guys. So let's talk about the master lock of the night. What was it from this game that you would like to put in the master lock and chat, let us know, give us your thoughts on who should be put in the master lock? Is it someone from the king, someone from the Lakers? Is it an overall concept? Let us know your thoughts. Matt, what are you putting in the master lock? Sacramento Kings GM Monte mcnair for not giving us Damian Jones. Oh, good one. Good one. You know we couldn't go through the whole show without going through Damian Jones. Damian Joe's, this is what we've heard. Damian Jones was the Lakers plan. The Lakers expected the kings not to pick up that extra year. They were going to bring him back and Damian Jones would be on this team and not Deandre Jordan. Ouch. Thanks kings. Thanks. Yep, so I'm going the general manager for the Sacramento Kings here. Because there wasn't really anything from the game that bothered me. I mean, the next thing was buddy healed because it's just annoying watching sort of almost future Lakers blow up against the Lakers. But I can't blame the guy for being spiteful. So I'm going to go with the GM. So I am going to go with something else. I'm going to go for the play that drove me absolutely crazy..

"Stuff happens and we go live and it'll be at kind of an odd time because we tend to jump on things right when news breaks. So make sure you are subscribed and turn on those notifications. Very important. And while you're at it, you might as well subscribe to the NBA front office show and turn on notifications there as well that show is growing like crazy. I'm so proud. We're about to hit 10,000 followers over there and Keith Smith and I just started up that show recently. So we've been having a lot of fun with that covering the entire NBA. But tonight, I want to start off with Deandre Jordan. Yeah, look, a lot of Lakers fans right now. Kinda on the fence at best at best about Deandre Jordan. I've got I put out the poll on Instagram. I put it up on the Lakers nation, Instagram account. I also put up a my Instagram account at at Trevor lane NBA. Asking whether people would rather have Damian Jones or Deandre Jordan. And Damian Jones on my account actually won on the Lakers nation account Deandre Jordan won because the Lakers according to Mark Stein wanted Damien Jones. Beginning of the summer, that was their plan. Was for Damian Jones to get well, have his option not picked up by the Sacramento Kings, and then they were going to bring them back. And didn't go the way they wanted it to. Sacramento picked up his option. Sacramento has, by the way, 5 centers, I believe on the roster right now crazy. But regardless, Sacramento picked up the option in the Lakers plan was foiled. Maybe Sacramento picked up the option just because they knew what the Lakers plan was. But regardless, the Lakers wanted Damian Jones. Instead, they're getting Deandre Jordan. And a lot of Lakers fans I've seen people making a lot of negative comments about this signing. And by the way, it's not officially done yet should be done any time now. You just have to clear way version remember today is a holiday. So in terms of getting business done, probably going to happen tomorrow. But anyway, Deandre Jordan coming to the Lakers. This is going to happen. And a lot of people are saying he's washed, right, based on what he did with the nets. He just doesn't have it anymore. And I think that's probably it's probably an honest assessment, right? When you look at what he provided last year for the nets, we think of Deandre Jordan in his prime. The best version of Deandre Jordan, just this lob threat at the rim and this great defensive presence blocking everything the nets were actually better defensively last season with Deandre Jordan.

"Where he'll just sort of like if he sees the guy just kind of moving he just decides that the area right next to that guy is the absolute most important real estate on the planet and drive towards that area like it's a completely undefended rim and draw following. You look like where's he going. He's like dribbling towards the sideline with one second left in the half and he's at half court and yet he's still like drawing a foul. It's just yeah it's it's miserable to watch unless he's on your team but those those are the needs such a great Foul jar when in the bonuses. Ricky might be a little better at him at drying defensive fouls charges and stuff like that. Yeah for sure. Even in the season game that he wasn't trying sort. I'm just really worried about what happens. If either booker or chris paul get hurt. Because i just don't think there's a lot of shot creation behind them. So i think as long as you're staggering their minutes. This is going to be an offense. That really hums. But if one of the mrs time i think that's an area where they just don't have a lot of depth and then like we were saying earlier same thing at the wings if you lose a mckell bridges for a month or someone like that you just don't really have the depth to adequately replace them and bridges cases certainly defensively. Yeah we'll see chris. Paul stayed healthy and see they have a highly lauded. Turning staff booker was help the all last season really for the first time on time you know. He had those recurrent hamstring issues and back issues previously. so hopefully. that's all in the rear view mirror for him. But chris ball was top twenty in the nba in minutes played last year and that was something nobody expected going into the season. He's a year older. He has had a fair amount of time off And but we also have this truncated season and so it games. When he doesn't play. I mean they at least have decent. Nba players who can come in behind him. We talked about but yet they don't necessarily have that shot creation skill set as you mentioned. Say that that is a concern. We talked about the true. The potential of true big men the rim protection is probably. I would say even though eight and took strides there. He's probably below average. I would say they're below average a little bit in conventional pick and roll defence. I think you can still attack that booker in combination to some degree so there there are weaknesses. Here are being but you know. They're they seem like a solid playoff me. At least a. I would say and anything else. That's concerning you a weakness standpoint before mean that that's the biggest thing in and then just yeah just if any of the key guys go down. I don't know if they're going to be able to really stay afloat. Well it also while we talked about him as having some weaknesses thirteen hundred and goes down. Yeah absolutely then. They're starting damian jones like they're not gonna start sharon which maybe they would start. Jalen smith again. June smith might start charge at least what they did. I think in the one bubble game he missed. Yeah but then you know. Obviously that's a whole effect. That really kills your bench. Yeah and also they were. They were like desperately trying to win and make it into the playoffs. At that point. I think they would probably view it as like well. It's not sustainable. To start dario charge for fifteen games when the andrea depending on who the other team centers. Yes so then. It smith he i mean while i would be on him yeah. I was impressed with his skill level but he looks real thin out there to like and maybe it's just because of what he the way he was playing but he kind of looked like more power for size out there to meet. But you know that's on tv. Obviously he does shot-blocking ability. So but i think he's only like two twenty five or something so they are now. The good news is if there were really any hemisphere injured. They knew could probably or they're going to the playoffs. They could pick up a traditional center on the buyout market or yoke. Give up a second round. Pick for someone who can eat some innings for so it's not that's the easiest position fill at least definitely Predictions here yeah. Let's do it okay. Let's let's get the record in here of what we had a season ago. Boy so You were i. Think particularly after the bubble occurred. You looked a lot better than i did. I i had twenty seven wins for this group last year. And you had thirty five. Which i think was the largest delta of anyone that i had And eight thirty four. I'm sorry and they won thirty four thirty four in a whatever how many games season it was. Yeah they and they also in the end after the bubble. Now i will say this. If the bubble doesn't happen they you know they weren't gonna win eight games in a row. If not for that right like there. There were Trending kind of poorly with some of the issues that we talked about But they also won two point three games fewer than expected cleaning the glass so this was basically in the end when you add it all up about a five hundred level team In terms of quality last year So i will go first this year in terms of offense i have them in a third tier in the twelve to seventeen range and that probably sounds low to a lot of people in it sounded lower like me. Yeah well and so. What i when i really went through it though. There are some really really good offenses out there this year and so here are the teams that i have from twelve to seventeen with them. It here with. And i have them at the top of that to you by the way. phoenix atlanta philly. Who actually was eleventh last year. Washington golden state and minnesota. So do you feel like they're like clearly to your a cut above those teams. Maybe some of them some of them. Yes i mean not not philadelphia might be really good offensively. And certainly. don't count out golden state. It's hard to know exactly how things go. But any steph curry off and some certainly going to be a pretty high on and minnesota with carl towns. They've always been awesome whenever he's been on the floor they got the i mean..

"Rest of the team. They see him as more of like a rookie this season and so to suddenly ask him to go play thirty minutes a night. That's again probably asking a lot. Some guys are I mean, look the Hornets have to lean on lamelo Ball and I still walk 10 millibars been is a very good player. We're going to talk about him in just a minute. I still think that if THC was a rookie this year and he was on a bad team which again both both would be possible. How do you stayed in school? One more year, he would be about the same age as the guys who are rookies right now and he very well may have ended up a first-round pick on a bad team. I think he would be I don't think he would win it off. I think he would be in the Rookie of the Year conversation because he'd be getting those more opportunities, but I think long-term what we're seeing right now is the best thing for his development. Yeah, and I think it's perfect what you said because I mean right now the Rookie of the Year race is like lamelo ball and then right below him is Anthony Edwards and then there's like this Grand Canyon of nothingness because of the rookie class this year. You know James Wiseman has struggled. It just hasn't been a great rookie class so far with the exception of those to see I feel like tht he could have sung with a bigger role on a worst team. So I've got a few questions in here people are asking about the buyout market and things like that and we're going to get into that stuff later in the show Once we're done talking about this game, but something interesting Andre Drummond, I gotta say guys. So Anthony who does the graphics for us, he makes all of our our thumbnails and things like that for YouTube. He did a jersey swap with Andre Drummond Andre Drummond looks real good in purple and gold. Let me tell you guys that so if if the Bayou does happen, we're going to have a good looking Andre Drummond many of the middle for the Lakers. I think that he would slide right in, New Jersey. Starting center position and we're going to talk a little bit too about the Dennis Schroder news that came out a few hours before tipoff. We'll talk a little bit about that and kind of his extension all that kind of stuff. So stick around that is coming. But Alvin Thomas Junior Zach, how do you feel about Damian Jones, coming in from YouTube or question coming in here from YouTube Damian Jones still starting which my good. I mean, it doesn't get any better for a guy on a 10-day contract right to to be put not only not only get minutes which doesn't usually happen for 10-day contracts but to get a starting job every day and night with the defending Champions. I mean, it does not get better than that for Damian Jones but 12 minutes tonight 242 shooting for boards one block Four Points. He was Judge Judy he's not great, but he wasn't bad either he gave you essentially what you needed from him. I wasn't upset by his performance..

"Looks like they're welcoming him the way they are and they're really going out of their way to get him the ball. I just I really like that from the team and you had pointed that out. So I just wanted to mention that page Chris. I think that's that was something that I really liked. I love seeing that from the Lakers because here's the thing right Damian Jones. Let's be real here. This is his career on the line. Right. I mean if this doesn't work, you might not see him in the NBA again. That's that's reality. This guy was the 30th pick and 2016. He's been a bit of a journeyman was at the warriors with the Hawks the sons that he gets cut and now he's got this what could be his last chance off, right? I mean never say never look he could go play in the G League. He could go play overseas. He could battle his way back like it happens sometimes but more often than not it doesn't once you're done. That's it. Once you get you don't come back and so Damian Jones has to look at this as his last shot Jordy time. You want to be an NBA player or not and the Lakers to their credit. They're up by Thirty. And so they can they have the they have the leeway to do this. They ran the plays that would that he could be successful in they put him into screen real situations. They had him slipping some screens rolling to the rim. That is his birth bought her that's where he's most effective catching lobs at the basket. They put him in a position to succeed on the offensive end and then on defense he did he did his thing. He stayed in the paint. He contested shots and got a couple Well nice blocks, but it was nice to see the Lakers go out of their way to say look man, if if you don't make it if you don't stick it's not going to be because there was some Misfortune because it was just unlucky we're going to give you every chance to prove yourself. Here. It is. Here's your shot and so far he sees that opportunity. I hope he's okay injury-wise because like you said that was very cool to see the Lakers really go out of their way to put him in positions to be successful. Yeah, it's right..

"And your Lakers just blew out the Golden State Warriors that that's what we've been waiting for. Gosh that felt so good. It feels like it's been so long since we've seen the Lakers with nearly a wire-to-wire win. They trailed fall of 13 seconds off this game. Just dominated the Warriors the entire game wasn't even questioned LeBron James got to rest more in this game than any game. All season long was so great to see a dominant Lakers performance given what we saw with the four-game losing streak how poorly they had been playing and even the weeks before that to get to see them come out perform like this was so long. Refreshing and is exactly what Lakers Nation needed joining me tonight Chris the Masterpiece Masters guys. We're going to be giving away from lakersnation.com license plate frames as well. So far off your comments your questions back in in the Lakers Nation chat right now over on YouTube on Facebook and on Periscope. I know I'm sure there's going to be a lot of comments about Damian Jones new Laker who made his debut Chris. How are you doing man? Are you feeling as good as I am right now? Trevor you kidding me. I feel like all is right in the world again. I mean the Lakers have won the last two they looked amazing tonight. I got my new Lakers hoodie home and and we're here doing our show. I mean, it's just tonight was great. You know what? I mean? Like just a great performance for getting to end. I mean, there's a lot to talk about. I'm sure what sighted man they just they look great and you know since dentist Reuters down back. Wow, the shooter effect is in full effect, man, and I'm not saying it was all dentist router. But damn the energy of this team since he's come back. It's like they're back to life and just loved what I saw like, let's say he definitely gave him the shot in the arm that that they needed 12 points for shooter threat get this Alex. Caruso did not leave them leave the team and plus minus tonight. It was Dennis Schroder plus Magic Johnson. He was + 32 + 30. Nice on the night. How ridiculous is that 12.6 is this for? "Yeah, and we're talking about Damian Jones not being a spectacular player. But you know, who else is in a spectacular player right now is Dwight Howard injury El Maguey. Neither. None of them are spectacular players, but their skill-set is needed on Championship units. You do need that guy to be standing in front of the rim contesting shots put Damian Lillard on the floor every once awhile. You need those guys to win a title. We needed it last year and we're going to need it again though. I've got some packing. How is he defensively? So it's a tiny sample sized guys, but in fifty five games for the the Hawks while this season as a tiny sample sized the only played fourteen games for the Suns 55 games for the Hawks facts before he was like his defensive rating wasn't anything impressive but he was at least negatively impacting shots at The Rim opponents, field-goal percentage went down when he was the one contesting shots. And again, 6:11 7 4 wingspan, you would expect that. But again, we don't want to hype this guy up too much don't expect the world out of him again. There's a reason why the name Phones released him. There's a reason why he's been on what three NBA teams now and he's only been in the league for I think for years. So is this Dion Waiters? Yeah, right. That's that's what's going to happen here. We're all expecting him. Maybe like Dwight Howard all over again, or you know, you sign a boat. Yeah, right. That's that's not what this is. That's not what's going on here. So, oh man, but your expectations again, it's possible. We don't see him at all that that could be the result here, but twenty-five years old the physical profile the skill set. That's encouraging to me. I would look at Damian Jones and assume it's not going to work. That's the way I'm going to look at it. And then if it does it's a pleasant surprise cuz I don't want people getting so hyped up for that forum. And then when they don't see a much people get mad Vogel for not putting them in there a 10-day contract very rarely works out, but I like the skill set. The Lakers are targeting..

"Turns out they have two roster spots because they wave Quinn cook we knew they were probably going to sign some down to attend a cuz they needed to pump their roster back up to 14 in order to be compliant with NBA rules. And so the sons had waved Damian Jones the Lakers pick him up. Go on YouTube and you look at his highlights and you go. Oh my God, what are the Lakers get? This guy? Looks like a monster. I mean he throws down lobs with just so much just just Venom off. Find every single do guy and he can block shots. But his highlight-reel can be a little bit deceiving. There's a reason why the sun's released and but I still liked of signing for the Lakers. What's your thoughts on on Damian Jones? My thoughts are that on the right team. Damian Jones can actually help a winning team get through a season and I remember talking about it a lot during the regular season last year about how important Javale McGee and Dwight Howard where they were literally key for the Lakers. If they weren't there. They're not winning an NBA title. And the reason I said that was because they're verticality is with Lakers needed that was all they needed from them. Sometimes development you'd be running around like he'd never played basketball before but then other times you're like, okay, he is a vertical presence on the basketball floor guys had got to shoot floaters and be thinking about him when they go into the when they go to the rim and that is affecting the game and it's also helping Anthony Davis stop playing the five in meaningless regular-season baseball games, and that's what you're going to see Damian Jones. Do you're going to see him be vertical try to really just jump up to the scoreboard and you're going to see him trying to pull down hard rebounds. He's going to be making some questions wrong. In hard fouls, that's what this team needs because right now there's a lot of finesse going on and it's a great thing for the Lakers. But when you have Marcus saw who's more finesse and you can put a credit card under your speed when he jumps off, you might need a guy who can jump up to the top of the backboard and grab a rebound or do something ugly. So I actually like the signing especially since the Lakers aren't bought in long term. It's just a 10-day deal. It's I like it. Yeah people in the chat saying you should start over Gasol and all that. By the way people asking when will he play he could have played tonight? He was eligible to play tonight, but he got to La at like 11:00, like he hasn't he doesn't he has like, yes, it had any time to adjust to the team or anything like that..

"Thought you can get more money to to you would have getting more money somewhere and they talked about his role and that he he wanted a bigger role. I'm sorry, but backing up Joell embiid. Not a big role in today's NBA. It's probably the smallest role you can have in today's League. He's I mean, he's I would consider Anthony Davis a power forward Joel embiid's the best center in the NBA. Yeah, and if you want to call it a center than fine. He's better than embiid. But we're talking about the top two big men in the game. So if you're going to go be a backup and and play, I mean, it's not like he's going out there playing 35 minutes Dwight phone number. Still is a role player for a good team. So I was surprised to see him go obviously due I hired was a perfect fit. He has no ego when there were a series where he has no business on the floor there weren't any guards on the floor. And then when another team is going big and you saw jokic out there dominating basketball games, you could throw them out there for ten fifteen minutes and you would shut it down. So it was what the Lakers need and it's what they're looking for right now, but I believe the Lakers can figure out who their Dwight Howard's going to be before the end of the season. I would not be surprised if they can if the NBA is so fluid off get released. I mean who thought that DeMarcus Cousins was just going to be released off of a roster. Say two or three weeks ago probably nobody and it shows you how fast things can change and I know Blake Griffin and and some of these guys maybe aren't the answer but somebody else is going to be available. We just don't know who it is. Who knows maybe Damian Jones works out. We'll have to wait and see and we're going to talk about him in just a bit but to get into some of the stats here LeBron James 28.11 board 7 assists four steals three blocks from LeBron said the tone on the defensive and you know, that's an area where the Lakers had really let down recently and I think LeBron said look the teams going to follow me. "Lakers Nation welcome and the Lakers get the win. That's right. That losing streak. It is snapped. The Lakers take down the Portland Trailblazers, and I thought it was a good performance of the second half happened to be able to say that the Lakers not only got the win but they played well particularly the second half. We're going to break down that we've got a new Lakers signing to talk about with Damian Jones log ticket tonight plus will be taking your questions and comments from YouTube Facebook and Periscope joining me tonight is Gary Sheffield Junior Gary how you doing man? Like what we just dealt with and ours is for the most part due to injury and some Coca-Cola calls, but I'm just happy to finally win a game. Yeah, me too. And that's it. Exactly. Right the Lakers were finally able to get one Gary your audio dropped out of the beginning that was on my end. I had you had um years. So I unmuted you there had a little issue with the beginning of then we we cleared it up at the end of what you were saying. They're kind of like the Lakers. Right? Right. That's my way to get out of this kind of like the Lakers who had some issues the beginning of the game, but then they fixed it as they went on Welcome Back Then a shorter. We should certainly say he had a phenomenal performance. So that was great and the Lakers get the the W that's the important part finally get like if the Lakers lose this game. I mean we're going I don't know what what's like worse than the sky is falling but whatever that next level is. That's where Lakers fans would be right now. So I think this song Win kind of takes a little bit of heat off the team, lets us all kind of take a deep breath a little bit settle down and realize that the things are probably going to be okay here. This is still a really talented team and and beating the Blazers in the Blazers are short-handed to it's still a good win. Yeah, they just have to hold down the fort and just play. Okay basketball until Anthony Davis comes back and we have to keep in mind that this is a two-headed monster. The team was built not to have a ton of depth but not the team is much improved. But if this happened last year where there was no Anthony Davis the Lakers would be in freefall. But when you have dentist router you have these other guys and Montrezl Harrell, they can put the ball in the basket. You can actually make up for some of what Anthony Davis brings the table. You're never going to replace Anthony Davis, but if you can bring some of what he's doing offensively and you can have other guys Step Up defensively with their assignments and maybe some teenage T go out and maybe give him some more minutes and have them play. Well, you can win some games and just make sure that the Lakers aren't literally falling out the sky. So it's nice to have a win and it buys 80,000 absolutely takes a little bit of that pressure off don't have to rush back. They got a w i mean you can pick up and if you pick up three more, right, you've got the Golden State Warriors, you got the Sacramento Kings. You've got some more games coming and then another one gets the Phoenix. They're not going to be easy games. But if the Lakers play the way they played tonight, I think they could be in decent shape. Now. It's interesting to me. We've been talking about this how they can't be deficient in too many areas without Anthony Davis with a do you you can write write with a d he can make you can have high turnovers and with a d Intruder..

"They got some good play from campaign in the backup role and they were doing a pretty good job of keeping their heads above water. When chris was off. I wasn't necessarily anticipating that to me. Phoenix is big hole though. Is that backup five spot. They gave up so many soft baskets going to the who when off the court. So that's a credit to aids defensive presence but it's also saying they're a guy short. I think they tried to go. Pick up frank kaminsky. Not sure he's the guy to solve that problem but they should also be a team looking to make a trade because it feels like not the hardest thing to address and it would make a big difference overall in defensive stability. Yeah i think that you know daria sandwich is the guy that they really like it. The backup five. And i think that they hope that the rookie jamaal smith will. He's not that guy he he's not gonna know. I'm writing him off after one game. I mean no not forever. But he's not gonna play a playoff quality level basketball or defensive basketball as a rookie. It's not going to happen. I promise you that no i. I'm not saying that he's you know. Nineteen ninety eight. Tim duncan but i do think that like yeah i mean you make a good point about the backup. Five and eight. Can't foul as much as he does. Damian jones picked up a foul every six seconds when he was on the floor so That is definitely a little bit of a weakness. But i also like when this team can go team can go small and it's going to be really interesting to see just how they do that. Going forward And when chris. Paul is able to play more minutes as well as campaign played Who was just like a complete revelation for me. I was reading his name in my notebook. way more than i expected to But when chris paul can play more minutes. I just think that this offense like the sky is just the limit on what they can do and they got a lot of shots that they really i mean. They got the shots that they wanted. A lot and You know guys like langston lakes and galloway and cam. Johnson are just absolute snipers and they showed it throughout the throughout the game. so yeah. I'm still a huge fan of phoenix and i'm sorry to dallas. I didn't mean to be rude at the start of this. I'm just you know there's like two percent of my body that is rooting against dallas. Because i want to be right two percent. No more like ninety eight percent michael you're you've been emotionally and physically scarred by the mavericks fans yelling at you for three weeks on twitter so yeah go ahead and do your little dance. Look after everything. we said about phoenix. If luke plays like even a bi level in the first app dallas win game he was. He was missing shots. Left and right. Look totally out of sync very uncharacteristic. He did turn it on in the second. Half quite a bit but That's gonna be a fun one to actually watch these two teams you know. Where do they wind up in the Playoff chase i think after that game would say. Phoenix looks deeper. They looked a little bit more cohesive. They looked a little bit more balanced I still felt like luca. Was you know pretty easily the best player on the court but you know dallas is going to have to get back to the drawing board and find a little bit more support for him offensively where he was off the cord. I thought things didn't go quite as well for them as they did last year. But it's only one game ari michael. We've reached the end of another episode of open floor. That was our ten teams. Ten takes guys if.

Kevin Durant out for Game 1 of NBA Finals; DeMarcus Cousins upgraded to questionable

"Warriors, raptors one of the ones that's been talked about a lot or just maybe less so than the Kevin Durant is the DeMarcus cousins factor. And it's it's for me. Not just so much about to be honest with you. It wouldn't shock me at all if he if he gets healthy, if he plays because I personally not, you know, to play doctor anything, but just as far as whether or not it's smart to plug a guy in or or what your thoughts are plugging a guy who hasn't played in a in a number of weeks ago hasn't played really very many games over the warriors, in general, I sort of look at the Damian Jones situation where he'd missed all that time four months or whatever it was three months, six months with the, the torn pack. And I thought, hey young player you're going to need him to get right? And get healthy. 'cause he's going to be a huge part of the starting line of next year for the warriors. But I thought even if he got healthy, there's no way you plug them in and, and have this work come, and we ate Western Conference. Finals and they did. It was times where it worked. There was other moments where they threw him in a couple of minutes he play and he getting a foul trouble. And you'd pull them out. But I think about DeMarcus cousins, a guy who for the duration of his NBA career has been a starter guy who's been a big score. A guy who has started every game he's ever played for the warriors when he came back from the achilles injury. Steve Kerr, sort of unequivocally said he's our starter. It doesn't really matter. We're going to plug a man he's gonna play put the the minutes restriction on him, but they said, hey, leading up to the NBA all star break that four days or three days off. They get February. He said he's going to be the starter. I think they, they weren't playing back to back and they played him about twenty twenty five minutes every game before he got hurt on a I mean, sort of, I mean, the, the irony for a guy like DeMarcus cousins, who's been told his whole career that he's a, a cancer in the locker room and that he's a team killer coach killer. And he comes out and he gets hurt and his first postseason oughta hustle play a guy who's, who's trying to help US TV more than even. Had to do funny. I was reading about that yesterday. And I went who they play in the first round. Oh, that's right. The LA clippers. The cliffs, that's a four-game set. Nope. No biggie took them, six to take down the clip show. But to markets cousins, you're here in his is now questionable for game one. I wonder whether or not. I would almost I would almost guarantee he doesn't start. I feel like that's probably not the best role. But you wonder what type of, of rehabilitation is this guy done not physically for his body before his image and for his reputation around the league whether or not saying, hey, I will be a role player for this warriors team will get him more money and more offers this office. I don't know. I I'm curious about it, and I'm curious about whether or not Steve Kerr will say, hey, you are the starter. Because I don't think that there's a, a Lockton starter right now. And I feel like if you've got a smaller lineup in surgery Baca, you've got a bigger guy out there at times with Marcus saw, I've not, not quite sure how he'll fair I it'd be an interesting moment. If, if they get to markets cousins on the floor and exactly what his role will be. It will he be okay with being a type of player that maybe in the first few games he is using these valuable and then ends up getting I don't know sort of fit to the bench the way we've seen big men in the NBA, especially in the playoffs sorta get misused or not used. It all because they get exposed for the sort of clunky footed guys that they are. We saw it with Nikola mirror teach in the series with the bucks. And the raptors where I mean he's he's good player. That's the guy can stretch out knockdown threes for you, yet, he became a hazard on the court because they were going out of defensively play after play. Same sort of thing happened with brook Lopez. He of course add a few big moments. But if you're a guy who's who's not a complete big man or cannot move the way, Draymond green moves in a smaller lineup even the way search of moves. It's going to be tough for DeMarcus cousins, so something to pay

"Golden State, let Oklahoma City back into this game. But they're able to come away the warriors with an eight point, Victoria. It seemed like a typical warrior gave the same team that we've seen over the last four years that have made trips to the finals turn the basketball over twenty times gave up a ton of offensive boards. Sixteen got sloppy at times, and then came back and got it done when they needed to not a very good Klay Thompson tonight. He goes five for twenty one for eight from three Kevin Durant over five from the three point line. He didn't shoot it. Well, and the questions I think still do remain of this bench. Can't Steve Kerr go to five bench players at one time to give these guys some rest throughout the regular season. Now, look when DeMarcus cousins comes back that's going to change things. But Ken this. Bech find a unit that can get it done and give these starter some rest throughout the regular season. I think that's a paramount if they're gonna make a run and get back to the finals for five straight. And as they wait for cousins, I think Steve Kerr has to be happy with the young centers came in Damian Jones got the start twelve points. Kevon looney had ten and ten off the bench so twenty to thirteen and four sis- from those two. Yeah. I love the athleticism of Jones, and we talked about it before the game Jones. It looney what they bring in Jordan bell all three of them kind of different different skills. They bring to the floor. So Steve Kerr has three different guys depending on matchups to go to. I think it will work out well for them and then throw in DeMarcus cousins, another all star and look at that. You got a pretty good spot. The warriors going for three straight championships and four and five years win on opening night. One eight one hundred over the
