You know like hinchcliffe being canadian and from the toronto area in early too darn bad the covert nineteen pandemic stops you from competing as we say on home ice. Nothing you can really do about it. But that's a bummer. That toronto has been canceled. Two summers in a row. Not many drivers in a racing series get to race in their hometown of their hometown area. And it's just too bad that we've had to lose this the two years in a row and is a bummer. Isn't it yeah. It's definitely sad for us and then the league for the fans. I know it's as drivers. It's one of our favorite tracks. Mccain racing fans are so passionate and you know really likes to get involved in and we have speaking for all drivers. I know we all have a great time there. "With well scott goodyear and his heroics in the early nineties when the show began through paul tracy. Alex tagliavini patrick on ponce the late. Great greg moore and others currently with james hinchcliffe and our next guest would indycar started racing in canada. It was vital that we had canadian drivers in indycar and luckily the boys have had major impact as they've graduated up the development ladder to get to the big cars gathering experience with each and every race. He's working his way up. The indycar finish order for legend. Aj foy checking back in with dalton kellet on race. Line radio dalton. Great to get you back on. I mean the season numbers. We know what they are in the top twenty for most of the races so far this season we knew that when the season started you know consistency was certainly one of your goals in progress does take time. But i know that you know you'd like these finishes to be closer to the top ten right with that. Yeah that'd be a fair assessment As you pointed out the name of the game consistency you know. We're we're in the hundred leader circle battle. It's gonna be kinda heating up as a season comes to the end. It's not really listening. You wanted to be Had some bad luck hasn't really health and just trying to find a face on on on on the road courses but i think between myself and and engineering team but we've decimation some improvements there but so looking for that consistency but each races is a classroom isn't it. I mean it's not a cliche. it's true. I mean you you do learn something each and every time out regardless of the outcome right for sure i mean you know. That's the big thing. If i if i didn't come out of a weekend you know better more experience than i than i went in Given that i'm relatively still you know. Experience wise men more or less a rookie. That would definitely be a problem if i wanted to continue to learn. That is something that i've been able to keep that correctional. Going sure exactly can kill it. Still ville ontario drives the number four k. Line insulators dilara chevrolet indycar for j. foyt enterprises back with us and happy. He is on line radio but then again you know when the when the finishes aren't where you exactly want them to be built and you've got to make sure that you're pro enough that the frustration doesn't throw you off your game. You know head down onto the next one right. That's the only way you can really tackle that hundred percent you know and racing's a while it looks like a singular sport and stuff that you know it's team activity. It's a team sport. And we're we're all we're all trying to improve and trying to get better and we went lose as a as demon as an organization. You know the white guys strong just getting their heads down and were working on what we know. We have to work in tears. Sure that's that's that's all we can really do. Everything else is just noise. And you mentioned the engineering of the start of the season. You had a years experience with aj's team and you know what you want out of the car. Now you feel. You're still making progress in that area. Telling the engineers exactly what you want on the car. how about that i think. That's some definitely had improvements Good tangibly i think especially working with this year sort of seen. Or where does he focuses on. And kind of you know queuing up to second a little bit you know. I think the big part of the lifetime these cars coming out of that commitment releasing the brakes on speed out of the accent trying to figure out what what is the feeling. What is you know. Where do we need the grip and our. How are we going to achieve that. And that's what we've been focusing on quite a bit and that's the thing it's been paid off. Don't kill it on race line radio. You mentioned sebastian board as a teammate. The guy's not had the best luck himself this year but no doubt you've learned some things from him. He's had so much success over his career. What might you think the biggest thing he's taught you. So far dalton. What might that be. I think the biggest most probably easiest are articulate. earlier is just the you know one. I've been able to pick up in terms of his breaking technique. That's been where. I've seen the most gain. I think that Detroit for example in the double header. There was really able to focus on just that that break release phase of of the corner and using the brakes combination hysteria. Really roll the speeds to the apex. That's the most like you know tangible thing. I think otherwise it's just seeing how could be engineers and you know obviously the alerted to with his experience and penetrate. He can kind of be more demanding. Than maybe i can but the same time. It's like you know when when something wrong. He definitely says it or when ten he's like no you know i. I'm just that confidence knowing. It's like either the car or me and and being being being a hundred percent certain about it so that's something i've been striving towards you know. Keep in proven in that regard as far the call related information to to the engineers sharp. But he's so precise isn't it. I mean he's just like you know it's it's this way and boom right. It's no no messing around. yeah i know. But he's be you know as a as a younger less experienced guy. He's been great to work with and i his reputation as one thing but you know how he actually is in in the engineering been super helpful. And i think we've we've worked together so that's that's and it also helps it like you know. We'll try the same set in on both cars. Talk to our engineers and independently of each other and more or less. Almost eight hundred. Eighty eighty ninety percent of time comes the same clothes and stuff like that. Good kind of parody. As far as our feedback gives him confidence and they don't at least you know the right stuff in in in the car. They can try something on my car. They can put it on his talking to bring you know diametrically opposite doesn't kill it on race line radio in the last time we chatted. I asked you. You spent some time with the man who owns the team. The legend that he is a fully damini. Let's larry run the organization. He's there at most of the races if not all of them any chance to spend some time with. Aj and tap his brain amini. He's such a legend in this game. You know yeah anytime. I get the child's aj experience and And i think you really have to take advantage of all. These guys are around. You gotta you gotta ask ask those questions. And i think especially at you know. "An effect. I think people so used to having cameras and some people around now that they tend to get that. Do you watch the show. Yeah i watched it when it comes out the quickly. Forget about it. What has been great for all the people you went on where we're attracting more and more interested in the us. Do you hope that it will be an expansion of more races in north america. I hope so out. you know. The calendar cove in is. It's been in the mobile but whatever the rights will be so you watch the show. Do you like the way you're portrayed you know making each show you're going to go back and some people say sunday so remember i. It went to the end of the day as long as you pay pensions. That's fine anything. You regret okay. We're talking to christian horner team principal for red bull racing but you're right. It is storytelling a lot of times. It's for again north. American sports fans the i think challenge of getting into f one for casual people was understanding a sport where it's so top heavy at the beginning of it you go. We're going to cheer for williams because they're the plucky underdog team and then you watch them and you're like i can't cheer for them because they'll never win and it will suck the whole time like why would i sign up for this so you basically have to choose a top end team. And so at the beginning. I think there was this acclimation period for people were all going to cheer for the underdogs like haas. Now there's kind of in this thing where you guys are looked at as the underdog if red bull can push mercedes if red bull can lead mercedes. Do you think there's any part of mercedes right now. That's uncomfortable not racing as the front runner like having this shift so far where you guys are leading both championships for the first time since two thousand thirteen. That sport isn't everything goes in cycles. And i'm hopeful that you know the end of the mercedes cycle is. Yeah you know on the horizon. It's great we haven't had a good stop but there's a long long way to go and you know we're just gonna keep pushing treat each race as you take it as it comes and try and get the best out of the car and the drivers in the circumstance and see where we end up. Your rival is going to be. Toto is ask you this before you go. What aggravates you the most about him. Well aggravates me the most about soto psyches guy. We'll give you that impression. How much thought goes into those media availabilities where the sound clips get get disseminated from thought to be honest. It was burned in front of the union thing and upgrade. There is not that usual transparency from coaches or from players. And with your sport. It's very much. Hey we're just going to kinda shoot from the hip here. I do wonder though if there has been some impact in terms of how to act in front of the camera. Like you seem very comfortable in front. Have you seen a shift in how people act or has there been something with year. Where maybe you don't handle something. "Backs. Yeah, It's a interesting thing to watch unfold here at the world's greatest race course and Davey Drama and intrigue always seems to find its way in. I mean, you think that everything's going to be fairly uneventful and fairly commonplace, but all of this is what makes this Yes Expect so yes, makes it so exciting and Everybody knows that the speeds are not going to go up at this point with the direct sunlight on the track, the higher temperatures, especially track temperature, but we got guys like hands suiting up. We've seen we've seen Wilson sitting in the car. We got guys that are on the bottom five. We continue to look at that. That's what Rick and in the day that's what really counts. It's those five guys shooting for three spots to get in this race, and they would like to be locked in today and not have to worry about that tomorrow. So I expect those guys all coming out, Tolo. To give another shot to try to lock themselves in this race, and we suspected Colton heard it was simply on a fact finding mission. He reaffirmed that because tomorrow the fast night shoot out of which he plans to be a part of Is from 3 to 3. 45 eastern. Yeah, That's right, Mr. But right now, right, so conditions could be exactly the same. And they obviously want that pole. They'll do what it takes to get it. And I think Dixon may do the same thing. I think he he could be headed down to that. In the pit lane to go out and try it one more time just to see what his car is going to these conditions. Right Marine back in gasoline Now you're not all the way out on pit lane yet, But there are a couple of cars getting ready. It would appear. One is the K Line insulators Number four machine of Dalton Kellett, the other Is Takuma Sato's people ready Panasonic Honda for a whole Letterman landing in racing and that one at least gels with what Ricardo Nault told us earlier when I spoke with him back here and gasoline alley about an hour or so ago, they felt like there was more speed and each of their cars. They really would like a crack at the fast nine if they can get it, and I suspect that might play into some of the nervousness that Marcus Eriksen expressed when we spoke to him because there are a number of very fast race cars on the outside, looking in And one thing to note about. Takuma Sato was yesterday on fast Friday. He put up an incredible speed, including Ah, four lap average that was very, very stout and did it in the heat of the day. So if there's someone who might be able to break through This afternoon. In all this heat, it might just be the defending race winner. Got great stuff for Brian Marine. Appreciate all that he and rob black men have done throughout the course of this day and again, Jake weary and Michael Young out on the course. Michael during the break, we checked in with you out in turn to and You said that one of those much coveted cloud banks was rolling in. But as it dissipated, not yet now the whole south end of the speedway is under cloud cover right now, and I look up to the cloud And as the wind starts to shift from the southwest to thou the Northeast, it looks like that cloud might hang out for a little while. Then we've got about another mile or so another big cloud and then It looks like wide open skies for the next 45 minutes or so. So an opportunity. If any of these teams want to get out and actually get a taste of a little shade here to Indianapolis Motor Speedway now would be the time to do it. Shake query. How about the north End of the speedway? You know,.

Currently 30th position marked times have changed thanks to these arrows screens day because we don't see drivers sitting sitting in these cars for an extended period of their hot rather, you're moving or not, that the arrows screen does generate a lot of heat inside the cockpits. We're just not used to an open wheel racing cars. So it's something that we're all trying to get better. I noticed for the 500 the way the venting to the helmet has changed. Some guys add him to the top. Some guys happen to the front of the helmet coming in more of their mouth areas, so They're still it's still work in progress to get the cockpits cooled off. We've got about an hour and 20 minutes remaining as attempts to qualify continue for the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 mile race. Game. Bridge.

"Kallen just made contact to the outside of turn number three. He got a lob side been handling. He decided to try to go to the outside to get around him. That dirty air caught up in that daylight machine, and the Canadian rookie Dalton Kellett has come to a stop here in the north end of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The five rookies all had their trials and tribulations today. Onley Pato award in Rina's V K finished the race running. Of course, V K was very fast but then v. K. I had a bad pit stop that led to a penalty that took him out of the running Pato award on Ly, a rookie here in Indianapolis because he ran the series a year ago but did not qualify, Finished sixth Alex below 28th Oliver Askyou 30th and the crash involving Dalton Kellett. Had him finished 31 again. That was Jake. Quarry on the call is with me now, Greg, Right. Strong were together until nine. Here on 93 WNBC at 93 5 In 1075. The fan got a couple of phone callers will get two. Momentarily, but Andy hit us up on Twitter. Dixon let 111 laps and didn't win the race. Who's led more laps than that. It hasn't won. Well, Both you and Scott Johnson, the brains of the operation here on site were quick to point out. That would be Ralph to Poma. You want to handle this one? Or you want me to write the drama Back in 1912. Greg dominated the race. He led basically the entire race and the fewest it's It's a two part question for obvious reasons. The fewest laps led by a winner until Dan Weldon in 2011 when he took over the lead when J. R Hildebrand hit the wall, and that was the only lap Dan Weldon lead that day. The record before. That was Joe Dawson in 1912 because he led two laps because Ralph the Palmer's car broke down with two laps to go after 198. I believe that he had led in that particular race, and that allowed Joe Dawson to inherit the lead and his national car went onto the window. Palma actually got out. And tried pushing his car across the line to win. He went on to win the race by the way in 1915, but the total number of laps that he led in that race I'm actually going toe. Look at the book to make sure that I'm saying it correctly. Hey, lead once for 196 laps, So I take that back. He let 1 96 Dawson then took over the lead with two laps to go. There was one other driver that lead in between the two of them. Joe Dawson. Incidentally, when he won the race, he his mother was in a house near speed. What right here in speedway near the track. And when Joe Dawson won the race, he actually left and went and was eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at his mother's house when the newspaper writers walked to his house to interview to the race, that is a true times were different in the second running of the Indianapolis 500. Andy thank you for the For the For the question. Let's get back to the phone lines will get to Paula and Marty after that, at 317239, 93 93, Paul. Good evening. How you doing? Good evening. Good afternoon. I the first time in a long time I listened to the entire race on the radio. Normally, I'm at the race and I popped between the drivers. On the scanner and the radio broadcast in the TV broadcast say you guys did an outstanding job make you second comment. I want to make. I think this is absolutely sweet Redemption. Ray Hall. Letterman Land again, Takuma Sato, If you remember last spoken after Pocono Cock who got just absolutely excoriated by the whole by the by the media by other drivers by other teams. What he showed today is that that is a true champion. The fact that he came back and won the next race the next weekend last year also proved that and thirdly, what I want to say is, I really appreciate Graham Ray Hall. I appreciate his pre race common, calling out the star reporter on DH, then his honesty about what were his pre race comments because I did not hear it if it involved foul language if you could make it family friendly, But what did he say? Or, you know, Graham. He doesn't. He doesn't do that. Let's race and he's smart. He basically called out the recorder who thought it would be irresponsible to tryto run the Indy 500 with fans. And I like the fact that he made the time and, um, he also said pre race said, You know, he felt like it could have been run with fans, regardless of whether it wasn't run with fans or run with fans, he at least But look, we could have done this safely. I just I just appreciate his honesty. And then after the race when he talked about how so many people had discounted at 18, and he basically called him out, so I really appreciated that. Was It didn't hurt that he had one heck of a ride himself. I really hope Graham gets 11 day. And the other thing, the other thing I want to say, I've thought about this quite a while. You know it was 15 years ago. And if you go back and listen to the post race interview with Marco Andretti after he sent a second sample He said. Second means nothing here. But I think at the time so money of a thought, Hey, he's 19. He's got a great future. He'll get get his win right. Well, you blink your eyes. It's 15 years later, he's 33. He probably had one of the best months he's never had. The pill doesn't have that w I find that interesting. He he got it right when you have a chance to win the race. Man. You cannot let that opportunity took through your hands. Well, said, Paul. Thank you very much. The telephone call. Appreciate it. Yeah, I'll tell you what I still remember Marco getting out and saying, Where did this speed come from? Talking about Sam Hornish Jr. And you know J. R. Hildebrand the same way General Hildebrand today, Greg who, quite frankly, I'm in a bit of a tip of the cap started the back in the field. Went out, turned 200 clean laps and brought that car home in 16th. It's pretty good run, for fact, that he finished all 500 miles I thought was and that he can not that he wasn't gonna finish the race car didn't look good at the beginning of the fact that he finished on the lead lap, I guess is a better way to phrase that a tip of the cap to him. Let's go to Marty's telephone call next for our next time out, Marty. Good evening. What do you have for us? I just wanted to point out that I believe that this is Takuma Sato. Second wind after the age of 40, and I think the only other driver to do that I'm not mistaken with Bobby Answer Who's in 75 81. I believe it's past his 40th birthday when he gets two victories and I want to see this was overall a very class event. Put on by larger? Of course it was because that's where everything that is associated with with Rogers. That way, Marty. Thank you for the telephone call. All right, So let's do the math here. Answer would have been correct. Lester was 39 when he won his third. Bobby, Bobby, I know, but I'm saying, right talking about for other I'm looking others right? Bobby was 41 in 75, which obviously means when he wanted 81. He was above the age of 40. So Marty Well plated. Yes, Alan should have been close to that literally, sweetie. Let me tell you a lot of couple races over the age of 40 cars would really difficult to drive back. That's a pretty fair uncle Bobby Impersonation job Well done on that, But I mean, we're getting into the slap. Happy hour, Greg. But you have been on the air France like a marathon for you like 10 hours straight. But it's part of its funds for you..
