"It's basically a content union, okay? You develop movies, you've all books, little short films, all this stuff is open-source, okay? Why? It's almost like, if you heard the term devotional content? No. It tasted like Bitcoin maximalists in a sense or devotional content. Lots of folks on Twitter are cranking out what I considered devotional content for their hashtag. They're cranking a devotional content, which is, here's why my cause is good. Here's why you are bad, right? Here's what I want to abolish the police. Here's why I want to social security or something like that. Possibly some more like the kind of thing that gets you to zealous level, right? Bitcoin gets you to zealous. Devotional content, okay? So you'd have is lots of movies like Dallas buyers club.

"Wow, and then Jared Leto doing whatever he didn't you like him in Blade Runner, for example. He was about a Blade Runner. Okay. I'm incredibly excited, Mike for Mobius or Mobius or morbius morbius, yeah. I want to see that. That'll be fun. I think that's one that could work. Somebody brought up something they thought Mike was gonna say and I actually thought too. I thought he was gonna bring up the departed, 'cause marky Mark is in the departed, and that movie as a whole, he is I'm totally reversing what I said because he was very good in the departed. But he was probably himself, 'cause all he did was yell at the other guy. He just called him names and belittled the other character and then shot somebody at the end. So again, I don't know if he knew he was acting. It's almost like somebody said, hey, you want to go play paintball? They filmed him and they put him in a movie. Never quite know if that guy knows what he's doing. But that was a good, that was a good flick. Reading this last one, Dallas buyers club or whatever that one was. Yeah, he was good in that. He was okay. He's just a character playing characters. And half the problem with Leto is that he's like he's overacting. Yeah. If you dialed it back, it would be good. Like if you dial it back, it would be acceptable. Right. Every time he goes out, he's trying for that Oscar. And so he dials it up to 12, and it's just like stuck. They're like, we're going to make a movie called flubber from the old black and white one. And he's like, I'll do it and he overacts and flubber and you're like, seriously, bro, you don't need to do that. But he is a good singer, by the way. He's got his 13 seconds. Ace, incredible music, very good singer, you just can't act with a shit. So anyway, that'll be it for us guys. We went a little long. I wanna let these guys get done so they can do some dying light. I'm sure it's all already 7 or 8 for red and it's 30 here. 9 30 ten 30 p.m. for me. It's ten 30. All right, yeah, so we're gonna let them go. Thank you once again to Mike always welcome to come on the show. It's a blast having you here, getting to talk some inside baseball with you. Always fun to be here. Always cool. Everybody else if you get a chance, check them out at automatic zen on Twitch or on Twitter and he will be doing YouTube. He promises me. Every time he comes on the channel, he's like, I'm going to have to gear up for YouTube, man. I'm like, share yard, dude. Sure you are. Share your that person who every New Year's Eve, you're like, I gotta do YouTube this year. Look. When that happens, I'll come to you first. Exactly. All right. Thank you, everybody for watching. Thanks to these guys for showing up. Peace out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Bye bye..

Rubenstein was astounded. That anthony fauci could be so stupid as to say that household contact might have anything to do with spreading aids. Rubinstein had never been a great admirer of new jersey's doctor someone who published a paper without g. and they had antics views of aids and children to rubinstein. The mode of transmission was fairly obvious. Fit quite well with the existing epidemiological epidemiological data on aids. The mother obviously infected the child in her womb the fetus and parent shared blood as surely as an intravenous drug user hemophiliac or blood transfusion recipient the fact that none of the infants in the study that was citing but didn't catch. We're over one year old reinforced this notion upon investigation. Rubinstein learned that anthony fauci had not even bothered to read his paper. So i don't just tell you this the show. He was wrong. How stupid other medical professionals do you have to be to be looking at a study. Where they're very rare outliers of children in the modern world with aids and say well could because they touched the cabinet and not take into account that they are all within the age where they would have just been bird and shared blood with an with an infected mother. He's you know where you normally put your lawn chairs are ironing board and rodeo or whatever people used to save their spots. Somebody put a Bernie mim out in front of their house figures hilarious. Well, we have some Harvey Weinstein news this morning. What? What's happened here? Yeah, This is pretty much should be the end of the story on this. He's in jail right now. Serving out a 23 year prison sentence in New York and then after that is going to be facing another trial in Los Angeles. But yesterday, a federal bankruptcy judge ruled that Harvey once teens victims. All will share in a $17 million settlement from what was left of his company. The insurance company is gonna wind up paying this out. This will be divided up between about 50 different different women. The most serious of all those sexual assault allegations will get about a half a million dollars so otherwise they're going to split that up. And you know this. This should pretty much should be the end of Having to hear this horrible story that started what three years ago 34 years ago. Something like them and s. So he's still in jail, right? And he's gonna be there for a while. I assume 23 year prison sentence that he's serving now, but another trial's about to start S so I guess we're not at the end of the hearing of this now that I think of it, But another trial is going to be starting in Los Angeles with similar sexual assault charges against him. And now it's time for Dean Richards talks to Oscar winners. Yeah, it's not often that I get three in one place, right? You know, we did assume call last week. With Denzel Washington who's got two Academy Awards for with Rami Malek, who's got one for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and Jared Leto, who was fantastic in the Dallas Buyers Club. Gotta be like 56 years ago. Something like that. They'll start in this new police drama called the little Things. Which, if you like, you know, police who done it's this is the movie for you. It's going to be opening up this Friday. And, you know, I just, uh I wondered what it was like. Being in a movie with Denzel Washington. Even with these two very acclaimed Academy Award winners on their owner currents in both Jared and Rami. Talk to me about that. You're something I had hoped for, and didn't know if it would ever be possible. And so many of us Uh, admire themselves working. Hold, Tonto. Probably the eyes. Well, definitely demonized industry standard dirt. I wanted to get your opinion on that. Just you know how funny it would be if you trash these two other guys right now? Oh, yeah, He's lousy actors. Yeah. Yeah, You can. Yes, you can ask, um, he's never been back. You know, I don't care what he thinks. He's never been bad. I've never seen even in a movie that doesn't work. He always shines and he puts his entire physical body into every role. Uh, that he plays. It was a great, you know. Trio the Three Stooges who was a good one. Yeah, I understand the mutual admiration society here with you know, these guys, and Denzel had said we played the clip last week. Denzel you know talking about even if these guys didn't have Oscar's, they're amazing actors. I mean, so there's just so much mutual love. And when you see this movie, you know you'll understand what they're all talking about it. It's like it's a master class in acting. You know, even if you know the story is interesting there couple little problems with this movie that I'll tell you about Friday when I review it, But just to watch these three guys do their jobs. Is absolutely stunning, so it's called the little things and I'll tell you more about it at the end of the week. That reminds me based on what you talked about in your interviews. We were watching. Let's go one night in Miami. Oh, yeah. And we didn't finish it. We kind of had to go to sleep. You know how that goes, And so we're gonna finish it, but The acting their incredible and I'm confused, though they those people never actually got together in Miami, did they? I'm told that there actually was a get together that they did get together. This is the story about Sam Cooke. Cassius Clay, as he was known at the time, Malcolm X and Kim Brown. It's in brown NFL. Great Jim Brown that they actually this This is when cash is clay. Fought Sonny Liston defeated Sonny Liston. They did get together in a hotel room. What actually happened in the hotel room? They don't know. Okay, That's the part that they're just imagining the writers of this movie. Imagine. What might have happened when you know these people who are so bigger than life. Got together and we're away from their public personas and just could be themselves. But it's another good movie, and then all of those guys in that movie Are you know they're They're up for Academy Award not, you know, talk at least right now. Everything's all thrown off this year because the Oscars are going to happen until April this year. You know, Usually it's right around this time..

I wanted them to Reflect on that. So I asked. All of them. Denzel starts talking about being in a movie with two other Academy Award winning that both great actors and they were before they Before someone gave him a statue, and they are now after someone gave him a statue, So the statute is not the determining factor. And if like, there's a way you can give all the money to the waiter, because restaurants have been bar's been shut down. This guy is like, Hey, I'm okay. Go spend your money somewhere else and give it to somebody else, which is actually a good idea. If s Oh, I love it. And that's again. Always the one thing about social media and being connected and being able to communicate so quick the way we are one of the good things about it right there. I love this story. Hammer. This is something Is this anything actor Matthew McConaughey Hey his hinting that he might be doing something. With the W W E World Wrestling Entertainment on a recent episode episode of Maria Manu does podcast, he's said quotes. I'll say not too much about it because you know, I can't say too much about these things. But it's something that interests me. I'll say Not too much, because as you know, Can't say too much about these things. But it is. It is something that interests me. I love the suspension of disbelief because my kids and I watch it and then They're starting to get that when they go. Oh, this is think I'm going. There's a there's a bit of one, you know, And then I And two of them to him like it isn't thank, modest is real did so there that's so much for the fun of it is gone. This is real that it is, uh, I guess I'd be interested to see something like that. McConnell. Hey. In the W W E. Although I just I don't get some of these. I mean, he's an Oscar winner. Oh, hosting family feud or the price is right. I'm a kind of hay in the W W E like that could be funny, But why would you? Is It Transphobic Podcast
A Critique of Dallas Buyer's Club
"Let's. Let's Talk About Dallas Buyers Club. I first and foremost all the triggers. Goddamn because everything you thought you knew about this movie you were right and then there's more. There's The the TRANSPHOBIA is there from the characters. It's enacted characters but it's also just that kind of trans-phobia where it's tucked under. Oh, it's actually homophobia but that's because they don't know what to do with someone who presents in a way that is not stereotypical. To one gender or another. and. Yes. So look up triggers for this movie. There are so many that I don't even feel like sitting down and listing them but look them up before you continue to consume this podcast and before you decide to watch that movie. That said, had you either? Have you seen this movie before we went to the podcast first time? For a first time on that radio to. See what I did there. On brand very unbranded. Yeah. It was my first time too. I definitely knew it. As you said, for all the reasons that I knew, and then there were more reasons that I was glad I did until now. Oh Yeah so This movie I have to say because I tried to as much as I'm trashing it as much as I'm like Oh this all this I really wanted to like this movie I went in wanting to like it I remember talking to a friend about this movie because I refused to see it. So I was like, why are people praising jared leto wire people praising his portrayal of Now, I can't remember the name of Rayon why and I actually had to coax it out of a friend because. This was a friend that I respected their opinion on and they basically said they were like, well, you don't actually want to know you wanna be mad and it's like, no I respect your opinion i. am asking you why people care what is it about this helped me and what this friend said to me was that the portrayal of someone who is going through a having aids being HIV positive and then having AIDS, and then dying from another disease which. It, it was the thing that really drew this friend of mine into the character and into the world of this film and as much as. We are going to talk about a lot of the specifics now having watched it. I respect that opinion. Even though I did not get the same thing from this movie. At least from from Rayon and that's really mean I also did not grow up like I grew up as a child during the AIDS crisis I did not know a lot going on but at the same time. The movie in my opinion the movie itself. Didn't do a great job with ray on. But I really dug the way that they dealt with. Woodruff Matthew. mcconaughey character in the first act. Yeah To to. Put My cards on the table for we continue. To very specific misconceptions or like nervous conceptions but two very specific things that we're going to my mind when I started watching the movie. Deborah really softened a lot of it for me, which was one. The last movie that I've seen that was in relation to the AIDS crisis was the film adaptation of Rent. which was the worst movie that's life. I it's just. Sorry And the others conception is that I didn't realize that it was made in twenty thirteen I thought like watching it. It felt like it was like an early two thousands movie in house can be like well. Okay like Even. The Straits don't really get chanced stuff I. It was like a good attempts to try to like bring more color to the table metaphorically speaking. But it's a twenty thirteen. I don't know like. I mean at times article didn't come out yet. It's just it's just weirder and it's also like. That film strikes very early two thousands and I'm not like sinophile so I could be completely dead wrong on this, but it just felt. Like You know way older movie than it actually ended up being. So. And that. Up Sorry and then I guess the third conception. Sorry. The secret third one was that I actually was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because as soon as I found out that it was like historical like a history piece because runway was a real person. As like, Oh, well then you know if they had to deal with a real life trans person like they're they're dead in the water like you know they're not going to handle that well. But no round is is a real. She was made for the movie. So cool. Great. Love that for us. So. Yeah. I wonder because Silas one of the things that you had mentioned that you had focused on when talking about the movie was a lot more of a real life historical things that were going on and about the real life of what was happening. Can you talk a little bit about that? Yes so Aside, from knowing about, you know sort of the kerfluffle about jared leto playing the part and hearing a little bit about that when the movie came out the other thing that I really had a bee in my bonnet about is the fact that Ron Woodruff was not straight. And he did talk about long clearly had some stuff but. They just. Changed him to be straight and altered his character quite a bit and watching it. It's so clear to me that they were like, how do we make this the straight male hero anti hero type that the straight people will come see the movie for? And so that to me like before, we even get to any issues of transphobia homophobia of that in the Bi phobia that really just made me now it becomes this sort of like. The straight guy in the hero of a crisis that you know certainly straight people and all people belong to this lots of. It was but it was primarily focused on the queer. Community. And sort of start off before you even have a chance to give the film the benefit of the doubt with that erasure just really for me. Through me completely out of it it was I wasn't able to come to the film really with. A kind of the I at that point.

2 Docs Talk
A Look Back at HIV
"Before we jump in. Let's clarify what exactly HIV and AIDS are good call. Hiv stands for human immunodeficiency virus which is a virus that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or AIDS. Yes so HIV is a retrovirus which means it is an rn. A virus that is a cellular machinery from the infected cell to do a reverse transcription of itself a DNA version which is inserted into the cells on DNA when the cell becomes active. It will make new copies of the virus that go out and continue the cycle and this is important because the drugs that we use today to combat HIV a variety of antiretroviral agents target different points in the cycle. The right combination of drugs can keep the viral load solo that it isn't detectable exactly so HIV infects a specific immune cell the CD four cell and over time the virus kills a CD foresaw which being part of the immune system plays a critical role in the body's ability to fight infection as de decline. The body becomes susceptible to opportunistic infections. Right these are often infections caused by pathogens that are normally present in on or around the body but a healthy immune system recognizes them and keep them in check someone with the depleted immune system however is susceptible to unusual infections. That healthy folks don't need to worry about. Plus they're they're susceptible. To all the irregular infections even healthy people get okay so an untreated course of goes something like this. A person is infected with HIV. The virus being transmitted during sexual activity directly into the bloodstream during childbirth or breastfeeding or a blood transfusion at this point the virus makes its way to the lymph nodes where has access to lots of CD. Four cells and replicates like crazy? This goes on for about three weeks three or four weeks. The patient may experience a viral type of illness during this time period. Fever swollen glands rash but not everyone experiences this yes and it feels like a regular just viral infections. So you don't really think about that. That might be what it is but after about two weeks the viral load in the blood is at a peak and CD four levels fall. This is a period of time where it is really easy to transmit the disease to another sexual partner because the viral load is so high after about six months the viral load and CD. Four count stabilized to set point and the chronic phase issue begins. This can last a up to ten years without treatment during which HIV gradually destroys CD. Four cells at some point the CD four count gets low enough. That opportunistic infections are possible. Yes and that's how we define AIDS either the CD. Four count is below two hundred cells per mil or the patient has an AIDS defining conditions such as retinitis from cmv cytomegalovirus or invasive cervical cancer or many many others so this was the typical course of disease for people early in the epidemic. Did you amy? That AIDS was around before the Nineteen Seventy S. That's when the epidemic began but it is believed that the virus jump from chimpanzees to humans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in one thousand. Nine hundred and sporadic cases were reported from then until the mid seventies when the epidemic got its legs. Very interesting now. It wasn't until Nineteen eighty-one that we really understood what was happening in. La There were five young gay men who develop Mrs to screen pneumonia PCP which is now new. Mississippi'S VICI pneumonia. I know I can never get used to that. I still call it. Pcp Yeah. I'm sure a lot of school. It was pretty much standard at the time right. I mean that was like defy so defining but anyways another group in New York in California who developed Kassy's sarcoma which is an aggressive cancer caused by the human herpes virus eight that wouldn't normally happen without a suppressed. Immune system right both of those diseases. And by the end of that year there were two hundred seventy cases of severe immune deficiency among gay men and nearly half had died. Yeah that we knew so fast forward. A few years by the end of nineteen eighty five. There were over. Twenty thousand reported cases coming from every region of the world. The virus was officially named in Nineteen eighty-six and in nineteen eighty seven A. Z. T. was introduced. The this was the first antiretroviral drug this drug worked by inhibiting the initial reverse transcription of the virus into DNA. This was a very exciting development because the epidemic was growing quickly. Now there were three hundred seven thousand reported AIDS cases worldwide compared to the twenty thousand. You mentioned just fine. Harsh prior and two hundred and seventy just nine years prior to that. It's impressive how. The pharmaceutical industry kind of ramped up so quickly research development. Yeah and those remember. Those were the reported numbers so they estimated that there were actually a million AIDS cases in another eight to ten million living with HIV worldwide. At that point. So if you're younger just in med school residency right now. It's hard to explain. How unsettling this was that how fast it was spreading right. Yeah and these patients were so sick and dying in such large numbers and there didn't seem to be in and site to the expansion of the epidemic. So there's a lot of fear and misinformation out there the had a policy to not allow those infected with HIV into the country and it was still viewed as a gay disease. So that created a lot of stigma for the LGBTQ community so by nineteen ninety three. There were two point five million AIDS cases globally the US Congress dug in and voted to continue the travel ban. Things are not looking good even with easy. T- which wasn't really panning out as everyone had hoped. And the fact that it was approved at all was questioned by many. Yeah so but in one thousand nine hundred things really started changing. This was kind of a turning point. The first price inhibitor was approved these inhibit the protease enzyme. Which is important in the translation of HIV v? Virus back into Aurigny. Yeah and this was the beginning of Heart H. A. RT highly active antiretroviral therapy and it immediately dropped deaths from AIDS related diseases by at least sixty percent but still there were thirty three million people living with HIV by nineteen ninety nine and fourteen million people had died since epidemic began. Those are huge as is to be expected the UN had to step in and negotiate prices to make antiretroviral therapy available to the people who need it The World Trade Organization that announce the Doha Declaration allowing developing countries to manufacture generic versions of drugs. Go See Fire Dallas buyers club. Yes also yeah so in the two thousands people who needed it weren't getting treatment aids. Was the number one cause of death in sub Saharan Africa. That blows my mind by the two thousand ten. A lot of goals had been set to get treatment where it was needed and have the spread of HIV an organization such as the UN and the World Health Organization and individual government agencies are getting involved at this point yeah the US finally lifted the travel ban for people with HIV treatments that decrease the chance of spread were discovered pre exposure prophylaxis or prep was shown to reduce transmission between male and male sexual partners by about forty four percent. Yeah in two thousand. Eleven research demonstrated that early initiation of antiretroviral treatment reduce transmission to partners by ninety six percent. So this is a real game changer. Because until this time the antiretrovirals weren't started until HIV was had started advancing and causing aids. So this is when they started the treatment early after the infection was discovered and it really changed things as far as transmission. Yeah as related. Deaths fell thirty percent from the peak.
