"Even i mean john lammers. We're fighting as adam course. You're just going crazy right. You're grabbing guys. I remember i came in. I grabbed this. Adam course chains chain wrecked it off through it. And i'm like just acting like a savage. You know then you get carried off the ice and it was and i think actually pulled. North brother got punched That exact same instance in colt nor got suspended for twenty games and then whol that was unheard of at that time. Is it true that the cold north plate in his face and his and he's basically like terminator. I don't know about that. I did play with both of them. I i don't know about that. I do know changure while. I've felt his fist later on his career. It's like sand. there's like no bone. You know that king i. I've told this story before. But when we mice scroll on he. We're playing worcester on all there's nobody there and colby armstrong's that dj kings kind of a killer heads up. He's like nah. Thank thank thank broken. All he talked about it like the kid was a killer bowling ball hands. Do you know. Mitch love remember. Mitch loud. he's he's coaching in saskatoon. Now okay. he broke williams tiger williams penalty record when we're playing in swift current and he broke it fighting. Dj king and dj king. I've never seen a guy beat up someone. Worse than my life and mitch love. He's like lights. Out out. Cold on the i zoom yet. But he's a middleweight. Is not a heavy. He then gets up his shirts over his face imposes shirt downing their like just be tiger williams penalty record and he starts skating around the ice with his arms in the air. Like what is going on here. The crazy thing. So i'm looking at three hundred. Twenty seven pins that year. yeah. I don't know if was a year or if it was a career that okay. Yeah maybe that makes. I was going to ask you about Playing early on with seabrook. I was actually When i played under eighteen he was captain in the in the summer one which was the hardest one to make and just really natural born leader. I believe he went first overall to the left. Return games when it was that bantam draft. Yeah i don't know if was first or second but just unbelievable guy. He took care of me. Like i was a walk on as a sixteen year old. I wasn't drafted or anything. So i i walked on and from day one. He took care of me his bill. It was actually really good friends with my dad so just such a good relationship. And then when i got to chicago i attribute a lot of my success to him. Because you know what it's like when you go somewhere and you're trying to make a team he was like bringing me around like duncan heath and he was bringing me around all these guys in making me feel almost like not like white. I belong really comfortable so trial when i was there. I really attribute a lot to see just like your natural born leader. Amazing guy and i am definitely great friends with them when i was hanging out with him. He wasn't drinking at all Earned into sauce fast after a few cups now. I i remember that too like even at my rookie party in drinks. So he was seventeen and i was sixteen. And yeah i don't think it was till maybe is nineteen or twenty. Maybe he started to have a couple beers. And i'll get you. I'll cover you on the sony. Drink for both of us pretty much apple all the other thing. I wanna ask you about Your junior career was against you. When you pay for red deer Brandon and brett sutter were on the team and then one of the fathers was coaching as well. What was that dynamic. Like 'cause normally you could see like a minor hockey situation where you're favoring the kid i feel like that won't be the opposite. Yeah that was opposite. Brent was hard and brand. He was hard on me there his so i played d. Actually my last year junior believe it or not so i was a demon home and he'd be like you're the harnessed thakin player. I've ever coached in my life. You know i'd be like you would show me a clip. And like i would rush the puck and then all of a sudden there'd be like nine guys back in the screen and all of a sudden i'd be coasting like slowly back in the screen yard terrible. You know but he. He also was like that with his own kit. Even harder and brad is well he for me was i also again. Between scott gordon. Dale tallon brent. Sutter was one of those guys for me who i learned a lot from any year. I learned tough love. And what i need to do to be a pro but again like you're talking about with his son and brad. He was hard on them. Stiegler after four years junior you get drafted by the bruins fifth round one hundred thirty fourth overall. You're with the organization for a couple of seasons they trade you in the second season. What was your reaction. You're pissed off. did you expect. Take us through that journey. they would. I was crying i swear. Got on the bus and hold on though. Because i'm thinking i'm looking. You had an unreal year rookie. Unit in the team sucks in boston. You don't even sniff getting called up. I think you'd be like what the fuck man so i was working for. Check about a year prior not even playing defense for the red deer rebels right. It's not like i'm like my career's done right. And i'm partying or whatever just like with my buddies back on like i'm not playing hockey. Probably so that twenty year or nineteen year old year they call me up and actually play lights out and then i'm like playing get scott like hey i know where you've been. I know where you come from. I know everything. I'm gonna give you every opportunity to succeed and so that's summer i went home and i put on twenty pounds. I will i came back. And almost one ninety. And i and i was playing lightsout like no one expected me to write and at that time. Scott orden's like man. I think you're going to call shaun donovan. Just got her a believe. Glen murray was hurting. You might get called up. So we're on our way to manchester and i'm sitting on the bus and i get called up to the front. And gordon's like man. I just gotta tell ya you just got traded all and i'm like what so you know how like you're kind of i'm kind of a messed up kid and then you're like you get this opportunity and also like they just quit on me. You know after what i did like i was. I think i was seventeen league in scoring in the at that time and i didn't even have forty points or fifty points in the year before so it's like i was really mixed up and confused. I remember being on the bus like tearing up. Couldn't believe also about three weeks prior to that we were norfolk and i was like faulk. There's one team i don't wanna be with. It's the chicago blackhawks. I swear i was like there's no way all the studs everyone and so when he told me he wrote it on a paper and slid it to me and said chicago. I was like no way like. I've not chance to make the nhl now. So that's that's kind of where my head was at at that time and i remember even dawn sweeney called music a nothing to do with this and i. I remember i was distraught. That's interesting so i think players can look at careers on on online and take all man. He finally got a chance. Getting traded and little did you know is the best thing that ever could have happened to you. I don't want upset. Ra but who is going back. The other have brandon. Bochenski trade for the boston bruins. I think he had thirty six goals at that time or sound crazy. You're ever see this a weekly scoop ice cream hugging on the street. You lighten up in chicago. But at that time though i thought it was actually even a good trade for them like mile. He got a chance key for me. Crazy all right. So that year you go over to norfolk and you continue like a point per game player and then the next year is your first goal in the nhl. Where you you at least got called up. But that year in the ahl had to be one of the top players in the and what stands out is just how physical your plan. And that's when you just basically decided. I'm doing anything i can to get there like. Did you know there was a chance to beginning of that year and camp. You could get called up. Are you going in. Like i got nothing set right now. I just gotta go balls to the wall. I just thought to go balsa while i actually am. I usually have good camps. I didn't have that good at camp that year. And i got sent down and and i was playing horrible in rockford. The first ten games like horrible. I didn't have one point ten games. I was actually playing fourth line. Two and i remember. I came into the dressing room. And i was like ready to flip my kaplan's table and mike an awesome relationship. And i was like you. Mother fucker put me on the ice. Put me on the power play. And i remember. I went home that night..

"One of their own initiatives under. Kim. Davis. that's called the inclusion steering committee but they know that they only have one chance to do this. and. It's got to be done. Right And I think what they're thinking is when we launch, we have to make sure we get it right? and. You know the HDA wants it to be faster. The HDA. Is demanding very lofty goals which it should the is asking for a large amount of funding reportedly one, hundred, million dollars a year over ten years I think the NHL wants a very good idea of what's going to happen with that before it commits to it. So I think you've got one organization that's faster faster faster faster and you've got another organization that sing like we're going to do it but we know we can't afford to make a mistake and because they're going at different speeds. It's not going to be easy to get there together and so I think there's frustration on both sides. It doesn't mean that we're not going to get there together but. One side wants it to happen fast and one side wants to make sure it doesn't make a mistake. It's it's sort of like damn the torpedoes verses. Slower but steady ineffective. He mentioned Kim Davis there, and I've been coming back to this a whole lot the comment that she made us here on the podcast when we spoke to her earlier in the in the in the summer where she said, we need to get comfortable with uncomfortable conversations were seeing statues toppled were seeing team names changed squaw valley is changing their name they're going through a a name change. Well, at the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs not only will the Stanley Cup be awarded but also the Kansai trophy will be awarded. I wonder at which point that uncomfortable conversation happens. Historical audit of people like conn smythe and I think of Herb Carnegie and I think of the Carnegie family and I think of conce my saying Alpay ten, thousand dollars any man who can turn herb Carnegie wight he should have been the Willio re in the NHL he was that good ask anyone who played with them notably the late Sean Belvaux with the Quebec Aces. Do. You think that uncomfortable conversation is coming. Elliott whether it's statues outside certain rinks whether it's names of trophies whether it's even the Stanley Cup itself and there is a lot of had talked to historians and they'll tell you how that Challenge Cup came about and how there were some teams specifically in Halifax all black teams they couldn't compete for the Stanley Cup. So even that to some has come into question are those uncomfortable conversations on the horizon? Oh, well, I just look at this way Jeff. How many things did you think this won't be happening by next week that in twenty twenty happened before next week absolut. Absolutely. I'm not predicting anything. In the world is changing faster than ever because we're so much more connected. So who's to say what we're GONNA be talking about next week. At Elliot at the end of the week, we had the deal talent story alleged racially charged comments made in the bubble you write about this in thirty one thoughts this week. While it's alleged right? Like we don't know if it's true. I think the HDA, the people in the HDA heard rumors of it. I was told by someone that wanted to what you reported as one hundred percent. Sure. That the HDA did know about erect. The reporter was George Richards of Florida hockey now. and. You know that's a online publication that started up in a few different markets. There's one in Pittsburg Pittsburg hockey now there's Colorado there San Jose in Florida. and. You Know George knows that organization right? It's been around for a long time. So he reported it and the H. L. confirmed there was an investigation Dale Tallon said to him he denied it. He said I've never seen anything like that. You know the other thing that was part of this was TMZ reporting that they were talking about multiple issues. And the reason that kind of perked up a lot of people is that let's just say for argument's sake, a Kema Lou. Ever decides to pursue a lawsuit against systematic discrimination or anything like that for argument's sake. You know del talent hired Bill Peters in Rockford, and we know what happened there. Right we now know 'cause lose come out with it. And so could that then become? Part of a larger. issue. And I. Don't think anybody knows the answer to this. You know I think that there were teams that were considering hiring talent in a consulting or advisory role. You know obviously that's off the table now. And ultimately, the most important thing is a person's reputation. Did they do this or not? All of that is a big question and we'll see where the investigation goes the league. Make it very clear. It's not going to talk about it until it's completed its work. To me the last thing image of the weekend will be all player press conference that will be burned in my memory for probably forever that's how I am going to remember this weekend. As you mentioned, the pride in Ryan Reeves face the images that I will take away as Elliot we begin. Another.

"Dale Tallon. It is the heat playoffs they for real today I mean I mean, billy ended up being right if you. If you think your team is good, you don't really pay the first round no mine and the Miami Heat were dominant against an injured an Indiana Pacer team but the plan the best team in the sport right now they're only five and a half point dog many experts is Dan highlighted racing. It's the Miami Heat in this series. That is that is that just the elimination of have of Homecourt essentially I think it's for a myriad factors number one the Miami heater could team that can't be loss on people though the bucks the bucks are a very good team but head to head the Miami Heat are two and one against the Milwaukee. Bucks, they lead that third game without their star is by twenty and then the Milwaukee Bucks came roaring back. So you have a Okay hold on I need to share with the audience being told the slow down on the air because cocaine Mike is back because he's talking happens with the it always happens excited about the heat. Ourselves I feel like this is a middle ground you're over walking. In mice defense sports in your Phantom, for a particular team could be like drug make GonNa make you feel even just by talking about bumps you might feel like just snorted an eight ball manzoor just trying to share the ball get out of the way I'm looking at a zoo of like eight faces, eight balls. Now. SNORTED I don't know how Abel's consume heard from. But Yeah Right. You buy by Call Wall and you cut it up and you could snored it would be. One brand. Actually, snort. Only got in, there was some real expertise. Just. Trying to set the teammates up and. quickly. But yes, many people many people are picking the Miami Heat in this series to upset the Milwaukee Bucks. Because they were I you're right but it makes you uncomfortable. Feeling good about it. Means the world, maybe the Jorges Donnas of the world we knew they were going to pick the heat, but when the other people start coming out of the woodwork. Now I feel like you're going to get swept too many people are picking the I normally do that too as as a fan I'm like too many people are out on this but I think there are a lot of parallels between this and that Warriors Mavericks upset before the Warriors became their dynasty and they upset a one seed Maverick's a lot of people were on that one and a lot of people are on this one. And I'm just GONNA Trust what I've seen how this team is built what the Miami Heat have in terms of defenders they can throw at the best player in the last time that's happened because that's a good example you're siting there were so many that was an aid against a one and people kept citing the match ups and the Dirk Nowitzki in the mavs we're going to have trouble with the speed and the the sort of. Warriors team and a whole bunch of people were picking an upset in a sport that doesn't.

"Had risen Tuesday Wednesday. And he said, it's ten games guys. It's ten games. Okay. At what point is it? Thirty games is a twenty games is at sixty games at eighty at. What point do we not go? It's fifty games guys at what point. Yeah. Because I look at that team and nobody believes in them, more and. I am more than a little concerned. This isn't a really good team. Right. I'm a little concerned as well. I started to wild Soviet the under spring training. And the thing I quoted actually was because I said I'm starting to believe a little bit of the coda mostly because there is no true. Number one, you know and Darvish and even chat what we're supposed to kind of be top of the rotation guys based on their stuff. It's almost reverse based on stuff. Less would be almost five. I did this story last year his spin rate all those numbers radar gun. He's like five, but he's the one because he battles where these other guys are like fives and sixes because you know, they don't know how to compete the same way as less than even hamels. So I I bet feeling about pets starting rotation which by the way six and a half year eight dead last in the National League. Now, I know if you inherited runners scored like last night which adds the starters era, but all things being equal. It has not been a good start for the rotation. And that's with John Lester pitching well. We know less. There's going to have some bad moments throughout the year when he comes back he just going to. But so far it's been pretty good. And it's still a six and a happy in our area dead last. So I do worry about it as well Catholic getting back to question. I do think again month. I mean, he's not what you wanna hear. You wanna see them by over five hundred after April? They usually had pretty good starts undermanned. And certainly sixteen was was the peak of that. But I think it pretty much have to give them a month. But you also have to look at the standings. You can't give them a month if they're eight or nine out and happened to be four out. Thanks to the angel sweeping the brewers and the whole division is pretty bunched pretty bunched, although the cubs reds are three and eight and the other teams are over five hundred but the division is separated by four games. So I do think I if there if they were eight out right now, you'd worry a lot more you'd worry a lot more. But in general, I mean, thirty games. Yeah. You should know what your team is is about in thirty games. Not to say, you can't go on a run in June and July. And all that stuff. But in this year in the NFL, you don't wanna be tr-. You don't you? Don't wanna be behind the eight ball. You just don't want to be chasing midseason. It's just not that good a good formula Jesse as I look at this team. And again, we're talking about how many games before you really go about this team. If this thing doesn't get turned around. And look they're not going to be a hundred lost Emma talking like that. I'm talking about if this is an eighty win team and eighty three win team. And there is no postseason. We're going to see pieces sold off in July. That people will be like wall. Don't you agree? Yeah. Yeah. I do I don't know about. Well, what would be like Bryant or something? I think, but I do I do think. So I mean, it could be Brian for all I know chore could be up. I absolutely could see Mike Montgomery gone. If they're selling a hundred percent he'd be a piece they would sell Cole hamels. Call hamels for sure. Yeah. Anybody anybody on the last year of their deal, and he certainly that would be number one brand immoral if he comes back healthy show, something we can go through Pedra stroke for all we know? He's also on the last year deal. So just think of those guys for sure moral for sure stroke for sure hamels because they're on the last years of their deal. Then we go to the bigger names that are under team control Schwartz. We're like Brian like radio. I I mean, I can't imagine that obviously some of those names are probably not going to happen Addison. Russell though who knows he comes back, and it's doing something. Well, I would say for sure by is off limits. Probably resumes off limits. And then, you know, I don't know Elmore. Could be up. I mean, I don't know. And a half of the showing something at AAA. When you're selling a retooling, you know, you listen. And if you get the right offer you make the deal, but obviously they're gonna keep a few of those core players, but the guys in the last year of their deals for sure would be up, and then a few others as well be up for sale and a few others as well. All right. It's all eleven games in long way to go. But gotta start turning this thing. Northwood at some point we'll see and appreciate the knowledge in look forward to talking to Hayward tomorrow. You gotta guys take care. There you go Jesse Rogers from ESPN one thousand and he'll be at Wrigley tonight. Cubs pirates. Jose can Tana to the bump coming off. Not a bad. Start a horrible start in Milwaukee coming up in about ten minutes. Joel Quenneville is gonna join us look forward to cat Albany, Hugh. Lots of get to with him. He's done hasn't got a lot of interviews now. And I want to ask him to respond when he heard his new boss, Dale Tallon, new boss same as the old boss is Dale was the guy that was in charge when Joel was hired here. Did you hear what he calls actually owner vet that? I think said it, but it same thing. Okay. Bentley dot com. Bill ballot. Check of hockey. I want to hear what he says about that. Because I love the guy. I think he's awesome. I still wish he was the coach ear, but he's now the coach of the Florida Panthers. So I told you last night the White Sox had their gala at the field museum. Great event. Like, my I I it was sold out museums a cool place. Great White Sox fans that you know, you had former players there yet Ozzy told me Baynes having Robin Ventura was there was it was great and all the current players were there after freezing cold game yesterday. But George Jacobs who we always see behind home plate. Wearing the Eminem jacket owner, Wendy city limo. Exactly. So I'm walking out to my car. It's it's George. It's Bill Melton. My wife and myself were walking out, and I'm looking at Georgia's jacket, and it looks like it's a different color. I said, George it's the normal yellow jacket that you wear behind home plate because. Oh, I got it stolen. What? Because I had my Maserati stolen this this past week. And and the and the leather Eminem coat was in the in the trunk like, well, that's a sentence. I'll never say that my Maserati was stolen while he goes, I don't care about the car. I care about the jacket. So we had to get new jacket and the only one he could come up with is. It's not. So it's not exactly the yellow that you're you're used to seeing behind on play a much to think you see a different yellow jacket. When you're watching White Sox games a cairn Tigray field. It's probably because it is Georgia had to get a different jacket. How about me break in that the breaking news? And if anybody has that Maserati out there, can you bring one nine or State Street. Jeez. Pull up here just drop the jacket off and keep the cost. Right. Do that to bring the jacket back. Okay. Hook you up with some Audis that Fairtrade a three one two three three two three seven seven. Six Joel Quenneville looking forward to that next. The grandeur hit exceed your expectations in a way that nothing else. In sports does the glory is truly special place with answering the game is preserved a free masters where maybe you I only go Goff, Gordon. Yeah. It is. But it's the only one like that. Did you write a column that that's this is the biggest higher in panther history? I I wrote that it's the most accomplished coach that a local pro teams hired since Pat Riley in nineteen ninety five and that's on a critical had you heard of him before yesterday. I'd heard of them in fact when when Chicago fired him early this season. I did look up the stance because I knew Chicago at one three Stanley Cups this decade. And I'm like did they just fire a guy who's won three Stanley Cups this decade? And sure enough they did. And and the minute they Chicago fired him the Panthers sitting coach Bob Brunner was on the clock fighting for his job because this is such a perfect pairing this guy in Dale Tallon in Florida so weird way to end the first segment Dwayne Wade's last home game. "Rifle since then lots of police on the scene have been there at the high school looking for something. And so far nothing has been found. We can tell you that Batavia high school has told us that kids who were on the way to school on buses are being turned around and take it home. They put the school on lockdown telling parents to not bring their kids to school. There are people in parking lots waiting for the most part most of the parking lots around this vast highschool are empty MTV school hadn't begun yet. School was supposed to begin in about seven thirty so good songs from Batavia high school this morning as police are still stretching for a reported gunman. There this morning, we'll keep you posted right here at seven twenty WGN. Yeah. Thank you for that. I was just looking at some of the numbers about two thousand kids, I guess go to that school at Batavia high school, and I was wondering what about the kids who may? Have been on the bus because you said earlier that classes started later, maybe forty minutes later than the man was first seen walking into the school. But some of the kids may have been on the buses those turned around. So unless there was just some unusual circumstances. A student might be at school very early. Sounds like it would have been no students at the school at the time. Yeah. There would have been faculty the faculty and staff in the building in this. You you've pegged the number right on the nose here with the number of soons. This is a very big campus. It is a very big school. And so police have their hands full as they you know, they have to methodically. Go through the building searching probably room to room for potential gunman there. So this could take awhile I can't imagine being a parent of a student at Batavia right now. Even if you weren't in the car on the way to school yet or if your kid was on the bus and they're turning around. It is the most unsettling feeling and then other people listening that are taking their kids to other high schools or grade schools, you know, it's you you should be able to take your kids to school in assume that that's a safe without even the association, and we have a report of a man who walked into the school with a gun. That's all I mean, maybe somebody, you know, I think there's a lot of different scenarios here. Right. Steve. Maybe that's what happened and and. Somehow or another that issue will be resolved. It's conceivable that that isn't exactly what happens somebody saw something. This is the reaction. Yes. We do not have any reports of shots fired. We don't have any reports of anybody being injured in any way. It's it's kind of a little bit of a mystery. Even though it's now an hour old. And it's right there in Batavia. What's going on inside that building has not come outside that building we just don't know much more than respect for the the officers and people on seeing that to do a proper job first before, you know, giving out any information they have to be thorough in their investigation before they can just feed information just because we're craving it will point. And it really is better safe to be sorry. This is what we tell people. If you see something say something and somebody said something this morning in police are taking that very very seriously. Yeah. Right. So if in fact, this all turns out to be a lot of nothing helicopter flying overhead police there, and it's not that much better that then then you then you right? Exactly Steve better that than you say, well, I'll bet. Okay. Not that anybody would react that way that better to overreact this way. I'm sure and you've got to believe that in the minds of some of those officers or anybody else that's involved. Look at what happened in Aurora, and the lessons that are learned there, you just can't know what's around the corner. So you've got a treat something like this as cautiously as possible. And that's all we're telling you we have right now. It is seven forty six. Steve will keep you posted in the WGN radio newsroom. Where we now we still have to take to take a break Dave than it was had a little bit of information. This we've been talking about Joel Quenneville, and and the Florida Panthers did put out a statement this morning. And now the hiring of Joel Quenneville is their new coach, Dale Tallon. Former Blackhawks broadcast or an general manager is the general manager at Florida now. So he brings Joel Quenneville in his head coach issued a statement talent says Joel is the three time Stanley Cup champion head coach who will. Be a transformative leader for the Florida Panthers franchise, and he will be formally introduced as their new coach a few hours from now at a news conference. They're getting a good one. Aren't they felt that getting the second winningest coach in hockey history? Lucky that it's available. And here's the weird part of the Blackhawks in the Florida Panthers tied for the exact number of wins this year, I think Florida had two more points, but furnish further from a playoff spot than the Blackhawks did because the way they Eastern Conference fell. Dave, I look forward to the pictures of Joel Quenneville at his house there in with a t peed and the kids that did it. You know, how he always said that here is it chemistry the players and the coach of maybe even though it was a good thing for him to leave Chicago. And maybe it's a good thing for him to be there. Maybe he'll have success there. Look he comes in with a lot of thirty. I hate comes in with an authoritative voice. Sometimes you need a new they haven't had success lately. And so. So they're going to be active in free agency. Apparently. And so maybe he's the guy to get them. Turn back around in a very tough conference tough division. Always laugh, though, it's like radio station. General managers are program directors. If you do a terrible job by God. We'll get rid of your fired the higher you cross the street. You know, there's like I think there's nine coaches in nine program directors out there. I don't think it's changed chair. I don't think it was ever. Any doubt dad, Joel Quenneville would have a choice of jobs, and he apparently did in this is the one he ends up taking any gets reunited with Dale tell him there in Florida to play tennis. They're good weather. For tennis pretty good for time a little further from the mountains for skiing. I hope they embrace him the way we did here. I mean, I guess success will bring a lot of that goes in with so much cachet. Right. Holy cow. We get Quenneville. We'll take Quenneville the fans they're I'm sure going to be very excited heard of him. They should I wonder what he's getting paid any idea on that haven't seen. That yet. But you know, the remember he was still being paid by the Blackhawks and Dave super judges pointed out that his goal as Roberto Longo. How about that the guy used to be? Emme is now now there I think the only former Blackhawk on that team is Troy Brouwer who is part of this two thousand ten Stanley Cup champions. I suppose if that's they'll be able to bury the hatchet. They'll get along just fine. That happens a lot. I think we're remember when Dennis Rodman came to the bulls. Suddenly he was our favorite forward run. Bob probert came to the Blackhawks. Yes things. It's okay. Things change. It's seven forty nine. John Williamson for Steve Cochran Steve away today. He'll be back tomorrow. You normally hear me weekdays from one to three. We've got White Sox baseball this afternoon. So I said, yeah, I'll go ahead and get up at four the boarding. So here I am doing the morning show with these fine people into seven forty nine Steve Grzanich. What's coming up at the Dundee are gonna have the latest developments from Batavia high school, and it was violent weekend in Chicago all of those stories coming up from the WGN newsroom and some heavy.

"Well, it's been a crazy forty eight hours in the NHL folks a lot of playoff invocations that game eighty two of the season couple coaches getting can and who better than to join the spitting chiklis podcast or to break everything down. He's at TSN insider, probably the second biggest insider in the world other than Mike Commodore Darren Drager, welcome to the spitting chiklis podcast. How you doing? I'm doing great. And that was a chrome bandits introduction Irish sure you're up against. But I I love the fact that you break my Commodore as the number one inside world, that's not why media he he did break the Nyquist trade, and that was probably the biggest at the deadline. So we figured we'd mentioned him first. But hey, a nice little shadow to you. And of course, Bob the the Bob father. Aw, get set like on his retirement. I don't know if you guys know this or not, but you know, source tells be Bob MacKenzie likely going to retire perhaps as early as the end Beck season. So all the concert information that you get over the course of the summer, the Margarita mixtures, everything that Bob likes new and his clock is going to amp up his off season. So by July second, you'd be getting hourly basis, and I can I can picture you now like brick and anchorman when you're fighting for the sources meeting up with Elliot Friedman every other inside I'm getting Bobby back. But Drake's listen it's crazy time for you playoffs or wild for players in the media like where are you off to now? And what's your first at least like first round, look like? While you know, I'm on my way to Winnipeg and it Canadian thing, obviously. And so I'm intrigued by the Kennedy Winnipeg in and and say Louis series. I mean has there been a more press team aside from the obvious? He's Tommy Liping the marks that they were on pretty much wired wire, but has British-born oppressive team than what we've seen in the last of the Saint Louis blues and how they turned it around. It's tough slut right now for the Winnipeg Jets. So that's kinda why I'm investing in that best of seven to open things up because I think that has all kinds of possibilities of entry around that series. So I'm make my way to win it. But for the first two games, no easy match of city more. We wanted to talk to you about the coaches being fired obviously down in Florida. Probably I would say that wasn't maybe the biggest prize maybe buffalo is. But can you break down? These these coaches fired potential to hop in. Yeah. Real tough time ear, and you'll coaches as they say the old cliche. They're hired to be fired two pretty good ones. And you'll I would say relative Dube's not that their inexperience, but you know, they're an experience when it comes to be coaches in the NHL and Phil Housley buffalo and obviously Putin or Florida Panthers. I mean, I feel for Bob Buchner because you know, the undercurrent around the Florida Panthers has been there for several weeks. Now, not because he's been doing a terrible job by any threats debaptisation. But just you know, most believe that Joel Quenneville because of his relationship with Dale Tallon of the Florida Panthers most likely to to fly in there and some capacity now there's no guarantee that's going to happen..

"Jack Daniels, unders radio WFL Matt salmon alongside pining Blom bowling tonight's one nothing overtime loss to the Saint Louis blues. Lightning will try to get back into the win column on Saturday with the Pittsburgh Penguins in town. And as if that's not a tough enough opponent Brian right after the game the team hops on a plane, thankfully, it's a short trip down south to sunrise, warm, and it is warming. Yeah. The the overcoats have gotten a lot of work in a lot of us over the last few weeks on these past few road trips but a Sunday night game at six o'clock, so very quick turnaround. But. Looking ahead to Saturday's game in particular. You know with tonight's game against a Saint Louis team that struggling to stay in the playoff picture you. Go back to Tuesday was bega struggling to stay in the playoff picture. Well, you know, the penguins struggling to stay into the playoff picture. They lose in overtime to the Panthers tonight at sunrise. But the the penguins do pick up a very important point. They stay third in the metropolitan division just ahead of Columbus. And now Carolina's suddenly back in the playoff picture to the right on the blue jackets and penguins tails, and then of course, the Panthers. It doesn't matter. How far out of the playoffs? They are how deep into the playoff picture. They are they always give an interesting effort against the lightning. Now. The Panthers are in Washington on Saturday. So they've got some travel issues as well. But interesting back to back here. And again, a couple of tough challenges and tough opponents in a in a very tough point in the season for those teams are connected, of course, because of the Brisard for Bucs. Basically that was the the essence of the. Trey there were more factors involved in it. I don't remember all of them. Exactly. But it was interesting when we're in Pittsburgh. That's when their third line center who they acquired last year who's a skilled guy. Go back to his ranger days before he was an Ottawa. Really good power play guy. An excellent, you know, second line center, he was and I think still can be at any rate. They have a mistake because you got Malkin across B, so okay. Derek your third line center. And they tried to make him into a checking center. I didn't quite understand. How all that went down. They tried to use them in a way that he's not very good at. So they wanted a recreation. It seemed of Jordan stall, and and that's not Presario. It just wasn't working a square peg in a round hole. So they moved on right after that that lightning game traded. If rebuke stat I'm a fan of the ecstatic Florida, I think you know, was disappointed in him because he can never seem to get as much offense out of them as they think he he's capable of big big kid. I think he's six four about two twenty five. He's made made out of. Granite. He's a very good two way player. Maybe just that's his level. He's not, but he would fit in. If they want to use them at center, you were saying a moment ago off air that he was playing wing a little bit with Crosby. They're gonna try him everywhere. He has played a lot of wing in Florida's. Well, he started off as a center. So I'm not sure what they're gonna do with them. But I think it's still an interesting pickup for for Pittsburgh. Where's he going to fit in and to me? He should be that third line center. We know Crosby. We know Malkin, we know castle crystal Tang's having a hell of a year went to the all star game really having a good year. And their goaltending has been interesting. You know, I I'm not quite sure. Matt Murray had terrible stretches and any put together just a doozy. Which included the game last time the lightning played Pittsburgh. So I think he's nicked up a little bit again site tonight up. I'm not sure what that's all about. So they got some, you know, some ifs about their goaltending. And where it's gone. So that's Pittsburgh. And then the next night is Florida. So you know, they play a tough game against Pittsburgh and Detroit is. In the middle of all that they're kind of out of it right now they'd have to go on a spectacular run. And and see about four teams fall under face. I don't have a lot of hope for Florida. But what that means is you play a team on any given night that doesn't doesn't have anything to lose. And those are the really dangerous the last week of the season when you play those teams those are the ones where everybody in your the team that needs one point or two points to get into playoffs. Those are the teams that just kill you because they're out there, and they don't give a darn. They're just gonna play river hockey. And if they've got it going, and they score a couple of gold, you're going. Are you kidding me? So that's what it's going to be like playing against Florida from here on in David skill. They will lot of scale. And if you let them get going and they start feeling early in the game. Then you're on your heels an awful lot goaltending spin up and down to they're going to have to do something about that. They have underperformed are her Dale Tallon their GM last week when he made the trade he said I wanted to give a little shock to the system to the players said I feel like we've underperformed most of the season. So the GM's not happy that'll get a lot of guys attention because it means that further changes are coming whether it's between now and the deadline, or you know in the summer. So if you like your job, and you wanna stay there, then you better be playing your tail off there. So there's always that factor that figures in Florida and the penguins, by the way have dropped four of their last six since there by week. And if you go back to the lightning game in Pittsburgh back on the thirtieth of January other than that I seven or eight minutes of the game. I thought the lightning played a pretty solid gains there. And that's just you know, the game went off the rails. And they were down three nothing early. But like I said the final fifty fifty two minutes. Rob, rob? So there'll be some of that. And there was recent pocket. Hit on Tang that got everybody all riled up. And then member stamper stammer and Malkin ended up in a scrap didn't last very long, but the they ended up in the penalty box. So yeah. And especially when it was only a couple of weeks ago that stuff is in the air. It's still had all it takes is somebody to like the match, you know, and there's enough gasoline in the air between the two teams. We'll see where that goal. So at any rate. I kind of look forward to stuff like that. And I don't I don't play with matches. I'll be looking to see if anything happens if somebody else is getting burned. Well, that's all right. As long as I'm as saved distance there. Although you might be between the bench in southern Ohio. You know what I am? Not sure. I I have to look that one up yet. I'm not sure. All right. Well, we'll clear some space for you. Okay..

"So. I start sending letters around. This is about a year later like late nineteen ninety nine. I started sending resumes sort of blindly to bunch of teams and the couple of responded and the Blackhawks which is where I was living in Chicago. They had made some changes they were going through sort of a phone. I'll change over Mike Smith called me and said, hey, got your note, commend, we'll talk. So I didn't know Mike like my dad didn't know Mike that I didn't really want to go somewhere where my dad just got me a job. Like, I didn't wanna go work for the Red Wings. You know? And it just I wanted to do something for myself. So Mike brought me in and. Talked about different things actually ended up talking most my wife. It started at pet sitting business Chicago dog walking and sitting and so when I showed up at the interview own like wanted talk about what wanting dogs because I hear the big longer any. He was telling me how he had was David job ever was one summer when he won took care of someone's dog, Martha's Vineyard. And he said we spent like forty minutes about pets dogs and how great it to be animal lover. And at the end of like, all right? Well, I I think we'll find out for everyone. Just come in. We'll we'll make you like special projects and we'll start next week. So I remember thinking, but yeah, I don't know what I'm doing. But I didn't think that hitting care just wanted to start. So I I started and I was doing more financial stuff to start like budgeting statistical work, you know, like skills that I had from business. World that I mean, I had hockey knowledge have any practical, working hockey knowledge. So I started and this is before the there was any kind of you know, databases, or so I created some very rudimentary programs to track things, and, you know, back then this is two thousand started with the hawks. You know, there wasn't. It was a small operation. Like now, I look at our front office so much more advanced than it was then, but so couple years, you know, I kind of worked my way up and then at one point Mike Smith got let go and so did Nick really Marshall Johnston, and Joey natty let go like five guys, and they didn't hire anybody knew it. They moved Dale Tallon from the broadcast booth over into the assistant GM, and then in Dale, and I knew each other, you know, the big golfer, and I am as well. They were pretty good friends. So Dale came to me and said, look, I need your help with some of the CVA stuff. Like, I can help you watching Bill gone from the broadcast booth to do some scouting. So he was doing scouting and eight that I can help you with this going stuff. You gotta help me with some of the other stuff as far as the and so. You know, I ended up doing like probably three or four guys jobs and at the time, I wasn't really qualified to be doing what I was doing. But you know team was struggling there wasn't a spotlight on Chicago back. Then that there is now I mean, so I was doing I was out a mobile that was negotiating contracts. I was doing the day to day logistics of transactions and stuff and Dale was training to be GM under Bob Pulford, and I would serve training under Dale to learn how to be in the front office. So I offer to the young age to kind of spread my wings. And you know, when this way wasn't on. So we wouldn't have great group there, but we were building, and, you know, slowly things started to turn we got, you know, some some really talented young players. And and obviously, then you know, things took a turn. And and we had that great run stint. When when you said you wanted to be involved in hockey. Did you eventually seeing yourself as a GM? And this is going to be a two parter..

"Last call presented by Jack Daniels on night, seventy WFL. A here's more from rump fish grill at Emily arena. And welcome back to the last call presented by Jack Daniels, nine seventy WFL. Thanks again to Mikhail Serta chat for joining us earlier, by the way, he had this great necktie on radio doesn't do Justice. But just the skinny tie with this kind of cartoon fly on it or Dragonfly. And it's I don't know look at Amazon, maybe they sell it there. I have no idea, but it was a nice piece of art. Normally when you get the guys up here they've got their suits on are dressed to the nines. And then you've got circuit with a fly on his tongue. You may have to go to Russia to go. Get. Have to actually. The Mikhail surrogate chat line. I'm sure it's out there somewhere before we hear from head coach John Cooper a couple other final thoughts on tonight's seven three win over the Panthers for the lightning Matt salmon alongside Brian England. And Brian let's talk a little bit about Louis domain. He had one goal early on that he would probably want to get back here. But the Panthers were throwing everything, but the kitchen sink Adam throughout the night. And yeah, they put forty three shots officially on the board. And as you said some of them, you can kinda discount, but there are some that you can't look away from he came up with. Yes, there were some Tim bell saves. There was the statue of liberty pose as well on one in particular. But I think important for Louis for the team the timely saves. I think he came up with some big stops when he needed to because this game was a lot closer than the seven three final score indicated here. And I think this is another nice momentum builder for a guy who's going to be carrying this guy in the net for at least the next four weeks. Now. Excellent game for Louis. He made a lot of really good saves. There is no doubt. They're the first one. I agree. You probably would've liked that one back, but he more than made up for it for a couple of ten bells saves that were really terrific and discounted some of the shots for sure because there were a lot of Florida shots. But at the same time he does have to stop them. And he did I like his confidence level the way it's growing. He robbed them just flat out rob them three times, but they should have been goal. So this game could have been really different is could have been a seven six or seven seven game where we could have been going to shoot up we've seen this to a couple of times between east who teams every time they play them. Whether it's here, or in Florida seems particularly here it just gets out of control. And in Florida feels good about playing here because Bob Buchner said that this morning, except for whatever reason, you know, we guys seem to like playing here. And so you don't like to hear that from visiting coach. But they do they they look comfortable. So at any rate the bottom line was. In this game. You can argue the mistakes and the turnovers and the bad coverage, and whatever because that's what scores goals, but at the same time, you know, you do have that other team out there that we keep we keep saying, but people tend to overlook, you know, it's always the mistake. The mistake the mistake sometimes guys on the other team just make great plays. Like stamkos did to them. You know on several occasions tonight. So I'm not discounting any of that. But Louis deeming had to make some really good saves. And this is an important stretch for him and for the lightning because. Yeah, when when Vasyl apps, you went down with an injury, everybody around the league's going, okay, now, let's see what the lightning are made up because Vassilev skis reputation around the league rightly so after being top three in the last year, he's considered some people think he's the best like we do other people have the top two or three. So he goes down and saying, okay, how long is this going to be a month or longer, and you know, how good is the main gonna be and they keep looking back. To his record last year. And how it started? And how disastrous a went for him in the first month of the season in Arizona. And then, you know, the reclamation project started here when he came to the lightning and look where he is now. So after seven games when we're on the road. That's what it all went to heck in Arizona so year ago after seven games he was owing sex. He was caught they said go away. And so he was practicing with Shane don't and Shane don't son taking shots thinking about going to Europe this year at seven games. He's temporary. Number one goaltender on one of the best teams in the league. So go figure, you know. That's the NHL especially when you're a goal so good for Lewis. He's been a lot, and he's toughened up because of it, and we've talked about his disposition and how it fits in really well as a number two guy and the players wanna play hard for him. His, you know, his save percentage is not going look good probably the whole rest of the year. Because while I shouldn't say that keeps having game. Like this. Over forty shots. But still that game in in Arizona where they lost seven to one. And he's in there for all of them, really sinks, your your save percentage for a long time. It's hard to bring that up. And that's one of the things they take pride it. Right. But the ultimate thing. They take pride in is the wind call them compared to the loss. Call and that's what he gets paid to do in today's game. And we knew there Bassey is gonna play sixty sixty four somewhere in there. So that means that you know, Louise gonna get twenty twenty two games. Probably. So the way the league is you need you need fourteen fifteen wins for if you're going to be a good team you need fourteen or fifteen wins from your your backup goaltender. That's really saying something in this in this league. And maybe Louis is going to get his all in this stretch. Because this one vast is resting because of injury. It's going to be interesting to watch. How this develops for twenty five years now? Lightning fans have never felt sorry for the. Panthers. So they're not gonna feel sorry tonight. But I do want to ask because it begs the question when we were starting to season back in October sixth and your prognosticating house is gonna play out everyone goes, all right? Lightning Maple Leafs. Maybe the Bruins are fighting for a playoff spot the Panthers. That's the team Ah-ha. Well, because you had the injury to Roberto Longo early in the season in fact in the season opener here, Vinnie tro, check, the latest, and and I guess the good news is that it's likely he'll at least play some this season from what Dell talent said the screw schedule that they've had in the first quarter of the season. They find themselves at the bottom of the division. What can we make of that team? We'll see him again in sunrise on December first, but how big and how important of a stretch of the next seven eight games, eight of them at home. So I guess we could say, you know, the next eight or nine games. This could be a season determining stretch of games here for the Panthers. Couldn't it. No. Doubt. We usually say that look you can't you can't win playoff spot. You can't win the copy an October November. But you can lose it because if you play that badly, and you drop yourself so far behind you just never catch up. So that's the spot. They put themselves in already it's been disappointing for them. Because now with tro check out for a couple of months his number to center, and he's darn good. That hurts a lot. They don't have a lot of depth that center. The way the lightning do have like seven guys who can play centre. They don't have that many. And certainly not at a high quality. They haven't been able to get a safe. You know, Dale Tallon was saying that I talked to him the intermission. He said, we're just, you know, we're not we're not getting saves when we really need them. And that includes certainly Riber when Luanda was out, but even Louis since he's been back. You know, has had some nice like this apparently didn't play very well in New York the other night. So it's building and the fatigue factor. I mentioned it's really starting to show up. So losing will make you feel a lot more tired. So this is teams in in trouble. That's for sure. As far as the the playoffs situation goes, they know they gotta step on the gas. But boy doesn't look like there's much there right at the moment. But all it takes is, you know, guys get hot, and you get on a winning streak and maybe four or five games and things start to see, you know, seeing look a little bit better. But they're under the gun already. Yeah. Things have started off unexpectedly well for a couple of teams in the division to buffalo Montreal in particular. Downs. Yeah. But don't count them out as you said, you know, you get a little win streak going and who knows but the lightning at the other end of the spectrum atop the Atlantic Division. And they'll try to keep the winds coming on Friday night. We'll talk about that game against Chicago. And hear from John Cooper in our final segments coming up in just a moment. When the last call presented by Jack Daniels continues on.

"And the bulls double-overtime win and Zach LeVine sport, forty one. And then what Chris is this real the Blackhawks just fire Joel Quenneville what blow up the meeting. Here's our league. And that's what's so great about being in town like this with passionate sports fans. Like, all of you a chance to discuss, you know, you never know what's going to happen. What do you mean? They'd just hired. Theo Epstein, wow. There's a big move. All they just hired a new football coach the drafted Mitchell Trubisky. It's like every day. There's something great. That goes on that we get to talk about. So anyway, three one two three three two three seven seven six one in Jefferson park. Hey, what's going on buddy? Hey, cut man U's fan, man. Best in the business. Yeah. You're the man how you doing? I'm good, man. Actually, little Saturday, man news. I believe choose one of the greatest Chicago history. Hear a couple of calls about stand. Are you going towards his? I know he's daddy's boy and. Did a terrible job. And I felt like he Harry to the corner. Fact, right because the being Dave I forgot the before Dale Tallon. There we go. Yeah. He pretty much drafted this core. I know you had a couple of pieces, but these last couple of trade sort of back. Disappointed and vanished. Periods of the city like the bulls eye. I know he has a type relationship with. I like they're doing a terrible job and on. I just wanted to, you know, here's your partner. What do you think about that? And also cubs question for you. What do you think? Well, big addition touches this year. After talking with Jesse listening to him at the GM meetings and want thanks very much. Have a great day on buddy preciado calling. Well, Jesse said that after talking with THEO and his sweet yesterday for quite a long time that he's not as convinced as he was the day after the season when THEO met the media for seventy minutes and basically said it's production non not over over potential and we've got to figure out our broken offense. Jesse doesn't think it will be as impactful as I think we all thought listening to feel that day. I still think they're gonna make some type of major trade to upgrade this roster. But THEO is basically putting it on the players at saying, hey, if this team's going to get where you guys want to get to it starts in that room. And those guys have got to figure it out. So we'll see what the cubs end up doing on the STAN Bowman front. He's done some good things. They won three Stanley Cups. But the bottom line is lately he has not been good trading away. Our tummy trading away, nNcholas John Marston, leaving them short a goaltender. Last year. So that when Cory did go down they didn't have a capable backup just a number of different things. So again, I think Joel saw this coming. I don't think he's surprised I don't know anything about the kid coming up from Rockford to coach the team was thirty three years of age. But I did not believe this was a playoff team at the start of the season. I don't believe it's a playoff team. Now will find out. We'll see if they are three one two three three two three seven seven six real quick, rusty and crown point. Earlier in the show, you mentioned that. Quick turnaround for the bears Twenty-seven-year-old youngsters and should be no big deal. Aren't you? The guy that was nationally your teeth and ripping your clothes when the cubs had to play thirty games in thirty days which way. Well, spanky they all say they played forty three games in forty four days. And for me that's a whole lot different than two teams who both plant Sunday half the match up on Thursday one had a seven hour advantage. It's not really comparable. But well NFL football game is the equivalent of being in a car wreck. So you're gonna get in a car wreck on Sunday at eighty six hours later, you're gonna get another car wreck. That's a little states there. Well, okay, Bob. Both teams are doing the same thing. The lions aren't off on Sunday. They play the same day. I get what you're saying. Thanks a lot. Thanks figured. I'd bring you around. Three one to Jack alone. Two three three seven seven six. Wow. I never cease to be Kidby. Thanks, Suzie Q. We'll take time out. We'll come right back Carmen a year ago. Crosstalk next.

"Seventeen. I'm Roger badesch WGN radio newsroom. These are the stories that matter on seven twenty WGN. Welcome back to you. After you got about ten more minutes with Brian Smith. You can get his website and figure out all of the places he's going to be signing happy's of the breakaway which really is hockey fan or no men. This is the Christmas gift book B R Y. Why are Smith dot com or you can find him on Twitter at book breakaway you? In rocky would talk over the years since famous Chicago magazine, profound two thousand eight about maybe doing something monger. And maybe doing a book you among the writers. I most respect for not about to do a, hey, I'm rocky words, and I saved the Blackhawks kind of book that was you were not at all interested in that the wonderful thing was neither was he was exactly right. He insisted. I mean, he made it and this is not blowing smoke. I mean, he made it a condition of doing the book that was his first condition that this cannot be some Valentine to the glory. That is rocky Wirtz. Right. It's gotta be real. It's got to be gritty. And it's got to tell the fraught ugly part tonight. I think he knew. Instinctively that for the book to have any meaning and to really to kind of. To set the record straight into to make sure the right people got credit that it had to be that way. And so when we started to talk, and I mean, we did talk over over the years for years. Yeah. You know with each championship, we got a little closer. But so when he finally was ready. I mean, he told me some stories that were so intimate and raw and painful that even I I mean, I'm a journalist shooter who's paid to. The dig out, you know, these these kinds of moments and even at times was wincing and saying I mean, are we okay here? And he said you put it all in and he didn't other than a name or two that would have people are still around that might have been hurt. He he left it all and and in fact, he made sure that there were no sort of gushing when when you have a person say in a book, I loved my father, but I didn't like him. Yeah. That is unbelievable honesty, and that is like something that would come out of like twenty years of psychiatrists coach. You say that. Yeah. You this could not have been a for you Brian Smith, the easiest writing tests because you're a magazine writer, and it's five thousand words six thousand words instead of forty or fifty thousand words was it daunting for you. It really is a compelling narrative you put together. We'll thanks. Yeah. It actually I mean. Yeah. Of course, a book always is a little bit daunting. The the the good. Thing for me was having sort of the the the narrative arc kind of laid out for me, the architecture of it, which was this. This turnaround. And then. And also because it's a story about fraught father and son relationships the natural place to begin. It seemed to be the memorial service at the United Center for Bill which was agonizing moment where Rocky's brother, Peter who is a vice president at the time of the Blackhawks insisted that there be a moment of silence for Bill Wirtz. And it was not a moment of sales an unbelievable beginning to for those who don't know billboards. I mean, he, you know, the team was voted the worst franchise Bill. I think was voted one of the worst owners the games were not until Evita's Rwanda problems with they were bad teams. You didn't invest in the team right described that? Yes grind. And he was defiant about it. Yeah. You know, people booed him constantly. And you know, they're they're they're getting weak. They're not doing. So. Yeah. A moment of silence. Okay. This is a Saturday night hockey game. People have been drinking beer for a while the lights go down. What do you think's gonna happen for bell word? So a spotlight hits Dale Tallon, the general manager at the time he comes out and starts to talk. And sure enough. I should say rocky and his family. His siblings are up in the one of the owners sweets watching down and rocky knows what's about to happen, and the siblings just were in denial or something so the booze start and they crescendo into this soon. Nami of. Roaring booze drowning out the guy making the remarks as pictures of Bill swirl, and the Jumbotron and rocky looks over his siblings. Sisters crying, Peter. His brother is a stoic faced in rocky just kind of shrugged, and you know, what did you expect? So that was the beginning of the book, and then we flashback a little bit and go into some of the history and then trace the turnaround. Now, the turnaround has been written about a lot. And so, you know, there was a danger there that we're going to tread ground. You know, people are familiar with. But but what what I found was what appeared to be this sort of fated almost inevitable. March to these three championships. So he picked all the right players. Sure. He put the games on TV. Anybody would do that? He brought back Esposito and Bobby heard some good young talent. And right. You got you know, but listen, he got mcdonagh. That was the cell job of the century to get pull him from the cubs to the Blackhawks the worst team Blackhawks, and then there were dozens of places moments where it all could've gone south. I mean when rocky walk into that office, the first time one of the first things he learned was the Blackhawks were thirty nine thirty million has lost thirty million cash the year before and had already run out of payroll the two weeks into the season. And so this thing threatened to pull down possibly the whole words empire because had to borrow excuse excuse, the pun, but from Peter to pay Paul borrowing from the other businesses, and in a horrible economy that wasn't gonna last long so all along there were these moments in they just everything did kind of click in. But boy the drama of it felt like an adventure story as an and you wrote it that way to Brian Smith. It is a it is a tremendous credit to you that nothing nothing in this book seems warmed-over. I don't care if you read it every Blackhawks story for the last fifteen years, there's something fresh and alive about this book. Again, it is called the breakaway full title. The inside story of the words family business, and the Chicago Blackhawks, and I will add and the unbelievably dysfunctional words family, but compellingly so you can get it anywhere..

"I mean, I think whoever gets into tonight and the next two. Pretty much. Regular. Yeah. Play every game. And they may start the season at Syracuse. But these are the guys who are either on the team or knocking on the door. I watch Joel network is we all do some time to get some news and stuff and Babcock said the other day says I'm putting my t- that I want starting last two, okay. Because taveras. Matthew hadn't played a game plan. And that's a specific situation for them. I personally I would expect that maybe the last game we're going to see very very close to the to the opening night lineup. But we'll see. We'll see. And and. The the big thing with the lightning far as I'm concerned is the first preseason game. I thought it was their worst. So far. It was. Yeah. I did. And I've listened to the radio and stuff and. You know, they played well in Nashville a lot of the Brookings played well and everything else. I'm looking forward to play the Panthers tonight. They play Thursday. Saturday. Shades in the past at sixteen when you played fourteen games again one year they played five in a row at the end of the preseason. I two was the last year we had the Nashville game in between the finish. Maybe it was two years ago. Very well. Let me at least tell you who's in tonight for both sides. Now, the Panthers have thirty two guys. Lots more players, and none are injured. So they do have some decisions to make. But I think they're roster looks very much like. Opening night roster sell for the lightning. He got Lawrence. Stamkos Miller is align. Polat point in kucherov Joseph Sara Lee conquer and then Danny Bartels begins lately debut with Mitchell Stevenson anniversary headman at Stroman are apparent defense. Mcdonagh and churn and then Kuku circuit with bass Leschi starting for the Panthers getting dot knob with Alexander bark. I've into UCS stat Jonathan Jonathan DOE is with Vincent tro. Check and my coffin who's now member of the Panthers. Henrik Bork Strub is playing a with Jared the candidate a smog in and Toronto is with their candidate. Sceviour defense you've got. Glad Matheson tessick. Julia milk yori with Alexander patrol the genes. Riber will start four Florida so fell the lightning side. Kuchar. Stamkos are not playing together. They did with bolcom first team. But volkov. He's still on the roster not playing tonight. But this may be a situation where coop wants to see. Stamkos kucherov with different guys. Play together they played with other players to over there. But in this preseason game. See how caloric biller? Stamkos looked together. Because I don't think that that was trio at any point after Miller arrived last year. I think so you're right. And Brayden point has played with kucherov before. Oh, yeah. So end of the year two years ago. No, senators, polite. Yeah. Yeah. So that line is. Remember the trio with Johnson, the triplets triplets that setup cannot forget the Trump. I didn't number never understood why they recalling triplets. Did you do you? I think the idea was that they were masked skilled, and so if I had three triplets a running around like lunatics identically. Okay. I got you. The other thing too. Is this vast LSU second game? He's got a he's got to play. And I'm sure he'll play you will probably won't play on Thursday, but might play Saturday in Florida. So those are the types of things I think guys get your timing better. You you like he wants all every. But you know, one note on the Panthers, which is interesting. So remember two years ago, the lightning missed the playoffs by a point. They had a furious finish. They went twenty six and four and lost thirty eight hundred last year the Panthers after the all star break what twenty five eight two. They missed the playoffs by one point. And they have made a few tweaks to their lineup. But for the most part, it's the same group coming back. I think they have a lot of both bantam. Yeah. Coming into the season kinda like the lightning felt last year. Now who knows how it's going to play out should lightly. Now the start that they had last year again this year. But I see some similarities there, you know, finishing strongly one year. Just missing it being so motivated to come back strong the next year, and they've got one of the better Centerman in the gaming Alexander Marco without a doubt. This guy can control the game when he wants to. And he always seems to play really well goods the lightning. So I think that's true against just about every probably does. Right. Yeah. He is that good. I I remember when they drafted him. I was third over and a lot of people questioned if but I remember talking to Dale Tallon about it and said, Phil skin is good. I said, well, I actually saw in a cage o- overseas when he was like seventeen years only, and he was good. Yeah. So he's a good player. But he got a good team. I think the Panthers are team that you're right. David Williams finished last year. They're going to be a playoff team in my mind. I don't know who's gonna miss, but I think the Panthers goaltending Knowle's up. We'll be a team to be reckoned. He stays healthy. I think if Longo stays healthy for sure. Thanks. It's thirty nine. While he's been trouble is but rhyme or play really well. Rymere's record last year was twenty two fourteen at six did a lot. He did a lot of the heavy lifting during that stretch run. Yes. Good. Get a chance to talk to China he's knocking on the door. Isn't it? He's very very close. Well, I haven't really seen him play. But Dave was telling me before. And I was talking to chief about it. This guy's pretty good player. Real good player. So those are decisions that. Are not fun to me. But they are because you've got play rice nonsense, the general manager the coaching boy. If we set the other night with Brian was here just because a player doesn't necessarily make the opening night roster. It's not like they're gone, and forgotten that it's competent confidence saying that Eric churn act is going to be in the NHL. I just don't know if it's going to be on October six, and he is really showed very well throughout this whole process. Even going back the training camp to the prospect that they had with the tournament. Probably not the best lightning player. One of the top ones that in a couple of games as a group they struggled. He stood. Joseph. Joseph president Joseph. Doc did not played very well. So what we need to break. We'll come back with your face off lighting Panthers. Rounding out the preseason with the first of three head.

Panthers Stamkos Miller Florida Alexander Marco Joseph president Joseph taveras Syracuse Matthew Joel network Joseph Sara Lee Nashville Babcock LSU Henrik Bork Strub NHL Dale Tallon general manager Kuchar Matheson bolcom
