"Ryan i want to turn to that fateful day february eighteenth two thousand and one. Dale earnhardt is racing in his twenty. Third daytona five hundred and his son. Dale jr. was also in that race. What did dale. Jr. tell you about his memories of that day his openness pablo was just unbelievable talking to me about this and he and i've had a great relationship for a long time But he doesn't remember a whole lot about the morning of the race but what he does remember. Prior to the race is dell earnhardt senior typically would just walk straight to his racecar heat. Wave of people and the heat is on autographs He and his wife therese would just walk straight to the car. He's in this game mode moat. He's ready to go but that race morning on his way to his car he went and found. Lg i kind of remember that morning on pit road. He came up and he's like. Hey you can do this. We're gonna do this together. And he put his arm around him and he said we've got racecars was take care of them if we work together day we can do that. And dale jr. told me he said that was a dad moment and he'd have a lot of those and but for whatever reason that particular day dillard heart senior made sure to come by there and say something. He didn't do that before races. I never saw him. I'll be at my car getting in and he wouldn't come up to me in the rest of the memories are all afterwards.

You're you're missing a good time in and of itself on their twitter channel I i grew up watching john race in truck series and then when i moved over to the social media world of things in chicago land when i worked at chicagoland speedway. I tried to be professional. Tried to be tow. The company line trying to never ruffle any feathers and that is john's that exact opposite of john's strategy on social media. And i freaking love. It absolutely loves nascar was in michigan. We don't talk a lot about that. But i'm into a good race. Yeah it was a really good race. I i am one of the critical people of the low horsepower. High downforce package. The michigan raises with that package had not been good. They've been kinda boring but man. This one was good. I think he'd figured it out. I think so too big weekend for short trek racy. And we're not going to go all over that you can find all the results you wind. You probably know. All the results racing virginia dot com. "Everybody feels really good about that. The guy's got a great applauded. Potentially i mean he is thirty years old which used to be young. I'm thirty years old. Don't don't don't traumatize us young for a rookie. But now for starting out. it's kind of old. But that's beside the point. He could send all long career. I think it's incredible that I just said chase briscoe goodness. We're just doing that tonight. John carey story I mean from from going to ta- cutting teeth and the and the grassroots like he had been and you know going up to race junior in in the late models and win the national championship and now going to and xfinity ride in a pretty quick time. You know he he kinda comple- skip the truck series and then went right straight to xfinity. Which shows you the talent. That josh berry has. And how much the dylan. Her junior believes in him So i i. It's like incredible story. and i. he already one at martinsville. And i i think he's gonna. He's gonna win a couple at least next year. Bobby's you look at What he has done. Obviously he's you know he did get the win at martinsville. This year a fifth people feel like kids. Got a pretty good future. I say kid. He's thirty years old chases thirty years old. I'm oldest dirt. But that's beside the point. I think whether he has a how many more years will he race and what happens from here. People will love this story because every time everything were. What's one of the biggest complaints that you hear about. Nascar is that there's no half for those who have talent but no funding and is just so hard that there are thousands of drivers out there racing in the short tracks every week who could be stars but never get the opportunity and josh various the guy who gets that opportunity and he has done the most with that opportunity especially this year and the getting that win. And just you know. He's the one that everybody point to. And say i have talent. I have a shot nine. Might be able to make it. And so i think people will love this story. People are gonna be rooting for josh berry. He's such a krugman driver. On the short tracks is done certainly wasn't a totally great half season. He had expanded car with junior motor sports. But what you saw was his progression and what you saw him learn and you saw him run well at the tracks really supposed to run well and then run better at the tracks were he was known as used to run chase all right. We know that this year junior has four cars and right now. The guys in michael net noah gregson just law gar. Is sam mayors running that eight car for the second half of the year. Is somebody out for next year. A junior motorsports. I think that's tvd I know bob Correct me if i'm wrong. That no deals and isn't nailed down yet so we're still waiting on that But actually i think. I saw on twitter yesterday that that dale jr. put on reddit that there could be five cars from next year so maybe nobody gets the boot and they still have that fifth car to be the being all star car whenever Dale earnhardt junior wants to race or somebody else so Still to be determined with with josh berry getting in that eight. So i think we're just kind of waiting on you know the the decision with gregson and where that where that goes But i mean gregson has been you know. He's he's consistent so hopefully he'll get back in that nine car But but we'll see it's silly season for a reason. I got one of the pillars thing. I'm gonna talk about bob. You've been reporting on this that Apparently denny hamlin is looking at buying to charters for the twenty three eleven team from front row. Motorsports now look all these. Conversations are always fluid but the talks at denny's had with front row. Motorsports seemed to have progress. You know and obviously they denny at first looking for one charter but there could be the potential framed by both of the front row motorsports charters. And if he doesn't do they do some sort of merger a partnership and does that third charter is. That run is at ran as a car out of front rows shock or potentially does front row. Take a step back and that third charter. Potentially least you know there's group there's teams that are looking still for charters. Cms obviously would be probably the best candidate to lease that charter. If denny wind lease it or bob jenkins wants to lease it. Depending on how all of this ends up being figured out but This seems to be pretty pretty far down the road. Now that being said you know there have been things that have been far down the road before they have not come to for wishing but seems like you know as far as denny hamlin and trying to expand and get kurt busch in the. Fold there teammates to bubba wallace. It sounds like that path potentially has you know has front. Row charters impoved. Do you feel like right. Now bob that even if they don't get a charter do they add a second team. But twenty three eleven next year That's a great question a denny says yes then. He says that they will add a second team next year. He says he doesn't need a charter. Of course that's a guy who doesn't wanna overpay for charter saying that right. So i think they at i think they really really be of. I believe that the unless they really have a good sense that they can get that second charter to their team and chase. I know that the popular rumor bill is the proper rumor. Rumor mill is kurt. Busch will be in that second car if you hear year in the same thing. I'm hearing the same thing. And that's why i was gonna say i. I would be surprised. If kurt busch wasn't at twenty three eleven next week our next year and i would be surprised at the number wasn't forty five. I think it'd be a loss chance if the if that number was in forty five to honor jordan a little bit more but Yeah i think that like i said. I think it'd be highly surprising if they didn't take advantage of some of veteran talent and with kurt winning again this year and being in the playoffs and and he's such a consistent driver and has gotten everything he possibly can out of the chip ganassi racing equipment The past couple of years. So i mean i think it's a no brainer for for him on the crew as we go to michigan this week. Lot to draw at the top and the bottom of the playoff standings. We'll talk about that. Wickham back if your loved. One has passed away due to cove in nineteen pay. Close attention to this message. You could be entitled to a death benefit of over three hundred thousand dollars the. Us government has set up a fund to pay families relief. If they've lost a loved one to cove in nineteen. We know this is a hard time for you. And this fund has been set up by.

"Yeah by the way can i. Can i have a second fisher to to Can we call it. A radio broadcast. Just call it. A dam broke court broadcast that we can we not go. We're still rain style. Everybody's radio pacman. What are you got Listen i like mike. Bagley juniors much next person. But you don't have to just have him. Wanting to call radio style just call it know turn fraternal or something. Come up with some other gimmick than just the the advertisers just like everyone cool with radio style. All right meeting adjourn Let's get this on the quick. Like you remember that thing long time ago that you never listen to any more. That's what it's remember that moran affiliate you don't know where it's at here. We are right near livingroom. Baby oh god it's like having a race With like old cars calling horse and buggy style it. it just doesn't fit right. It just doesn't make sense and ex. Exactly it's like pete medhurst at rose graph doing races every week man. The sakis column sakis exciting stuff man. He used to love. Nbc you gotta you gotta be better than that you got better and i also like the fact that Immediately they were up against the national grand prix. The ada the here's the winner. Here's his interview. Find everything online. Right right sweet bath now and that's with the race ending at a time. Yeah so it was. It was a wild while thing man. So yeah but anyway back to back to that larson thing. That was all much to do about nothing. And and i think i think chris bell's going to be a little bit more you know. I mean he's young. I get it. He's upset and everything like that but man like i. It wasn't like he came down last second. He was there at your door there the entire time and in all honesty if bell doesn't want a guy to run up the inside of him run a defensive line through term one. Don't give them that much room. He went into that corner really wide and he opened the door. That's the only reason that larson could be side by side with them at that point. So but for kyle is fifth fifth win of the year. just crazy. yeah. I mean for a guy coming back. We all knew yet and i'm like it shouldn't be that big of a surprise. You know what i mean. Why why do we don't see that more often. Though i mean we've seen like l. Junior didn't move over to meal. Hendrick win five races first year. I mean we've seen guys moved to big teams. Oh he'll be a good potential comparison next year. Do you think the break his laskey could move to rouse racing and win five racist. Because i don't know that could now. I don't think he does. I think it's it's a i think for junior. It was kind of a lateral move in that. Like he was. And junior was coming into hendrick with gordon and jimmy johnson arguably at their peak. I would say gordon at the downside of the but jimmy johnson. Just hit his stride on that. And i think you know just the dale jr. holding onto didn't eerie tony. Junior come with them. I thought so. Yeah that's holding on holding onto all that and it just didn't help him advance until it was too late. I would think it's mean that that's my thing is that you look at you. Look at what junior didn't and like he was doing that. Say he kind of the same hookup at d. I before he left there to go to hendrick. So i mean he had good cars at the is not like he's confirmed gase. Who's you know very rollercoaster you. When it comes to the success of their cars and then larson comes out and larson. I think has a killer instinct that dale jr. didn't have oh for sure for sure yet in that like towel arsenal win at all costs like and you see that when he had his suspension and going on the dirt seating just tearing it up and may contracts money-making himself money like that was a big big deal and then he comes into this and has that mentality to not only having to prove to himself he can still raise the top series but proven everyone else wrong like sure i dropped a hard are but god damn i can drop pedal to. He said that. Or if i'm implying that he said that yeah for sure oh man and You know i say that. And i know that somebody can make a very valid argument that martin treks junior went from furniture row. You'll gibbs racing and one that many races. I'm in fact i'm looking right now. One two three four five six one seven races that year so that that wasn't really i mean that was kind of moving from a gibson gibson. You know this moving from ganassi. Two hendrick isn't so much a you know a one for one type of thing like the martin tricks junior thing is. I don't know it just strikes me as Out of the ordinary that driver switching teams and doing so well right off the bat it does really highlight the fact that the gase cars were holding him back a little bit though. Yeah i would think so for sure. I mean also yeah half year off to let's be. Let's put that in there too. It's now like it was a transition. When all season he had an extended time off. So you're right about the killer instinct. Thing i mean for more than dylan. Her junior did junior at that point he was kind of cruising in his career. He was hoping you could do more but it wasn't like he was dead set on this mission of winning the championship. Kyle obviously has multiple reasons to you. Know have a chip on his shoulder about coming back improving everybody that he deserves to be there. So and it shows Yeah absolutely ratings for this one. Two point one four two million. The last time there was a watkins glen race which was two years ago. Was two point. Seven million so down decent amount. I mean that's pretty big. Hit but you know i'm torn on whether that's a big deal or not because it has been two years since there's been the glenn pot. There's only four races until the championship or until the playoffs start so it was a relatively big race. It'll be very interesting to see. How in does this weekend. Yeah i i don't know i haven't seen many ads for it. Yeah i haven't seen any it's like it's like you guys want to promote this damn sport and you wanna get better ratings. You know talk you something and you know. I forgot to talk about this last week on the show. I obviously i talked about the fact that i was like addicted to the olympics. Like i am. And i watch as much of his possibly could. It wasn't until the last like three days that i started to see stuff about nascar and they had seven days to take any sports fan that would watch and pimple little nascar to them. They didn't do it. You just sat there at the very like the last couple of days. They talked about they. They did a generic commercial about the run to the playoffs. Saw that one maybe three or four times and then unlike the last day they rolled a second commercial that was generic f- fox nbc sports commercial. That was talking about the fact that they're gonna have the super bowl and they're going to have the winter olympics they have the nascar championship and then there was like one or two other minor things so it wasn't even a dedicated nas. Car commercial was a commercial about all of their major championships. And it just happened to have a couple of nascar shots and put their name up there but the only dedicated nascar commercial. I saw didn't mention watkins. Glen didn't mention you. Know the andy road course just said they're only four racist go until the playoffs. Who's going to be in. You should watch on sunday. It's it's four races until we go Later yeah and you also have the preakness next year. Yeah stuff like that. As that's what the generic commercial at the very end was all bonilla showed that for like saturday on sunday before the race Alright so spies furniture as you mentioned really the biggest one was chase. Briscoe and all this Strangely enough ninth place finishes third top ten of the year. All three of those road courses. So maybe you wanna take chase prisco this weekend but the money down on that and then Matthew benedetto finished eleventh and since he found out he was getting fired he his last four races. Everyone has been between ninth and eleven the so hovering at the back of the top ten every time which is good for him. I just don't know where it's going to take him at this point it. Did you hear yeah. I don't know where it's because there's no very little spots. Yeah Around there but the most interesting thing about mattie benedetta this weekend you hear that story now so matty better detto. He.

Psychoactive is out now listeners. Psychoactive on the iheartradio app apple podcasts. Whoever you get your bike casts we spent a lot of time yesterday and part of today talking about simone biles took her self out of the team competition. She's taken herself out of the individual. All around competition that will be thursday. Don't know if she's gonna compete over the weekend and we thought about dale jr. For a variety of reasons we love having junior on by the way season. Two of loss speedway's on peacock looking at great racing cathedrals of the past. Really long forgotten racecourses now abandoned overtaken by nature. I really loved it. I thought it was great. And we're going to have junior on to talk about that. But then i thought everything that he went through when he was racing from when his dad died to getting in the car the next week the expectations you inherited a fan base. He wasn't winning just the mental side of that in dale jr. joins us now and i know it's a long time ago but that that mental part of preparing for race. How many times do you think you went into a race where mentally you weren't in a good place when you're doing it every single week. You certainly had your good days and bad days when you could tell where you are last week mentally and where you were this week and it was happening and such repetitive process. That you you know there were days when he got up and you felt really great. You feel like man. I'm this is going to be a great day. I can feel it or you know you just had a great disposition and could handle adversity better and then there were days when you got about a bed and you had no motivation or you had no confidence You maybe had some going on your personal life. That was that had you down and depressed And then when you were faced with any adversity during that day or that race you didn't handle it well and you didn't overcome it and you can't fail part I had you definitely going to experience that in sports When you're when you're competing on regular basis you're going to have those days when you mentally just habit together and then those moments when they're just you just saying you're just overwhelmed and I was always affected. You know my personal life and my home. Life was the driving factor for me and so the things were good. And i you know. I was if things were smooth for. May at home Things were going thing. We're going to go pretty well at the racetrack. I think that might have been the other way around to. Sometimes if things didn't go well the race track and bad at home. That's for sure. If if i failed and i had stretches of failure you know where just. I was a miserable miserable person every day of the week. But how many times did you get into a car and say. I shouldn't be in this car. Never never did add. Just i was interested job. I was just showing up to work and supposed to be there. Felt like i belonged there but there were days when you look around. And you just knew didn't have that same confidence as the guy next to you. So when we go to the drivers introduction all the drivers are forced into this little space together. And we're going get introduced to the crowd and so you are exposed to all the competition right there in that moment before you're going to go compete and you can see guys that are that are that are Ready to get ready to get after it. You guys that are just you know. They're not they're not fired up to be air. I don't know everybody kinda approaches it differently but Can you say anything to anybody. Could you tell your crew chief for doubts. Or i'm just not there or did you just suppress it. Yeah you say that because you don't want your team to hear you didn't want your crew chief for anybody to think that you weren't you weren't allowed in you know and you weren't there heavy. Every with the most sports racing is a is a team effort. and nobody. you definitely don't want you know your personal issues or anything you've got going on. I guess were you. Did you know that that wasn't the jack man's problem that you know that he showed up there. He's he's in. he's prepared all week. And so you suppressed been saying they now after the rights you might note your crew chief and say hey man. I'm sorry as you could probably tell. I wouldn with it. This week i wouldn't today This is why. I'm going to try to fix that. How can you help me fix that. And you know you try to you. Try to do a better job than next week. But you had a big fan base like the pressure at a young age of living up to what they wanted. The other drivers didn't have that you can say that's good and bad but like be didn't want to let them down now. You didn't and i had a hard time. Feel hard time feeling like a victim there because i felt like the fan base was super That fan base was absolutely the reason why i was able to keep my job in certain situations when probably mixed guy got fired. There was a stretch where knowledge is going Pretty things are going bad with my job at rick hendrick In anyone else would have got. Let go but my fan base and the support that i had from the fans is the reason why i was. Let go and so you know being the most popular driver.

"The room right now with the forty niners anytime and guys playing a lot better than the guy in front of them when you start to split reps up with that team and start to talk about but Trade that seven practices with us and Haven't seen in forty days so Nothing about that right now does haven't jimmy go are starter and you're gonna give all those guys every opportunity to improve and on if someone ever looks like to give us a better chance to win. We'll make that decision that yes. I don't even think trains signed yet. Always done yeah. Jimmy's the starter. We don't even have another quarterback yet any the just talk about you. Know off season workouts. Here you send them hadn't hey hadn't been around thirty thirty days like he's sending a message. Here yeah garoppolo is the best quarterback in the room right now. That's not a ringing endorsement for a team. That probably flirted with the packers with aaron rodgers. Tom brady and they drive to trae lance. He's the best quarterback in the room. Right now yeah coach. Which is a better quarterback the one who led you the super bowl and almost one and a couple of years ago with the one who's not signed an fcs player. Who's about eighteen years old. By the way i know. We have this blanket stamp of approval. On patrick mahomes you look at his super bowl numbers. They are pedestrian and in his one and he's lost one if he had lost the second one or lost the the first one to the niners i mean would we be talking differently about. Patrick mahomes overrated. I think we would be saying that can win the big one. I don't know. I mean john elway super bowl stats weren't good either. I mean there are actually. They're bad patrick mahomes. They're not good either. Four picks two touchdowns in two super bowls for patrick mahomes right now you can say way face great defenses. Yeah he did. They gets hard to get to a super bowl. You go man. We're glad they have a crappy defense. Yes mclovin liza feel like wrong that you're saying that because everybody is declared him like that's best quarterback football oak. I i okay. He he hasn't been great in super bowl when he signed that deal. I remember we were talking like you know. There's just as much chance that he's not going to be good the next ten years to like he's not guaranteed to get another seven rings or something but he's been christened the best quarterback and then when you bring up the super bowl and people like wait what yeah hasn't done much in the super bowl if they don't get those. If san francisco gets a first down. He doesn't win. A super bowl. Might be different. Dale jr. got some serious talks conversation with dale junior. He'll join us coming up as well. Final number one more item. We close out the second hour. Do you have a sleep routine. You go to bed and wake up around the same time every day including weekends. According to the sleep foundation consistent sleep strengthens your immune system and lack of sleep can literally make you sick and unable to meet the challenges of the day. "This racing virginia. I'm dave. I'm brian brown and as as you well know rabbi now you are listening to the racer brigit podcast. How about that but you like. Do you like new voice voice. Over all he's great. He's awesome deep dave. I just call them daily middle name. His last name is about twenty letters long. You just don't bother will go. They don't bother with it anymore. He's he's up in wisconsin. Wisconsin was hanson. They were just aired nascar. The last two weeks. I know you got a lot of notes for our opening segment. I have a lot of notes for before we get into atlanta. Because that's gonna take a little bit. Nhra vip announced that they will not becoming this year as they had rescheduled for later in the year camping world series and but they will be coming back in may of twenty twenty two. And that'll be good. The temperatures won't be real hot yet and here's another thing. I'm when i saw that and i was like. Oh that's the same week in kind of that. We run the the king and a komo. I may have to adjust that a little bit. Because i don't want you know that you don't want to have to have the fan. Choose between one or the other sure now. The good thing about that is is that sunday is the finals and we don't we race on saturdays. I you know it's a little that's one of the great things about. Nhra is that there's three days of action. You got qualifying on friday qualifying on saturday. And you've got the race portion on sundays so for me. The qualifying days were the most fun days to go to. Because you get the most racing for your buck. Sharia all the series making his f. We had this still continue to do as weekend. You can go Friday night or thursday and friday night. It starts thursday right well. Yeah so the sportsman. Glasses friday night drag strip. Come see us on saturday. Nine and then go back on sunday perfect perfect. Yeah you get your fill racing here in the commonwealth of hot atlanta baby. Oh yeah hot on track Sun a little hot as well. Yeah they they made an announcement and this by now they mean an announcement that they were gonna repave the tracking. It needs it and obviously the track was coming apart and they and again we talk to one hundred percent on needs to be repaved. Not having a fifteen twenty minute break. Because that's when people click off the tv yeah. Click at a tv and go do something else. Yup so it has to be repaved. The drivers two years ago asked them not to repave it. I think everybody understands that it needs it has to be. I mean like the of course. The drivers love the worn out surface. That chews up the tires and puts the onus back on them in inside the race car cockpit but however however i mean and the racy was good racing was very weak all all the way through the xfinity series rate. Finish the cup series. Great finish great action throughout those races as well but they trackers coming apart during the cup race. They had to stop the race and this is the. It was almost poetic. How it happened because it was like justifying yes. We do need to repay this. However they announced that they're going to reconfigure atlanta. They are narrow in the track up by fifteen feet from the top the bottom or the bottom to the top. Whichever way they do it. And they are banking the corners progressively and getting banking to the middle of the middle. The top of the jack. Not just the middle Just listening to the dale jr. download and obviously he's friends with marcus smith. They're working on the fairgrounds which would garage but gone and he said that he was one of the drivers that they asked because they went to. Ira seen i didn't know this but they do. The chili bowl was having some issues with the track service past year and the the they asked the folks from i racing and the somehow because of the scans they said. Hey this is where on the track that you're having the issue that's different from last year they went in fixed. Drivers loved it better racing and it it trans translated over from the sim world into the real world real world and they with the chicago road course that they want to put together. They've asked i racing gone made the chicago which i which i think is a great idea because you know you get yes. I racing is a computer game but it's a lot of those tracks are very very similar. The tracks themselves very similar. Whether you race an ira seeing or in person. That's what they'll junior said. He said he's raised in atlanta. You know the the old atlanta and racing on on the real marble are really and and for the most part are. I've raced at the atlanta as well so so they they can go in and say hey. This is a little bit too narrow. We need to wide enough. You know it. Save a lot of people. On a million dollars the gracie women i race win and change the track. Yeah they ask some drivers dale junior says it. He didn't feel any difference. Yeah any the one thing that he said because the drivers have been complaining. Is that you need to do a little research. Sometimes before you so so to put some context to that the driver the drivers came out and overwhelmingly said that they weren't consulted at all before atlanta decided to do this complete reconfiguration of the track and a lot of the drivers even our own denny. Hamlin right here in the most vocal the most vocal about About that Also the the car which will get into a little bit later but you know kyle busch and sheldon creed both. You're ruining atlanta. Why would you wanna ruin atlanta so. Yeah a lot of hot. A lot of hot opinions that we will we'll dive into here a little bit later Another little hot thing that we were we're talking about and it's hot and juicy and tasty and delicious was The virginia motor speedway baloney burger. That had and and what was just thinking that saturday a statement by me. Yup all right saying that. I have i have eaten both. Yeah and that. I said i think that virginia better or stacks up at least stacks up to it and that fire was fighting words. It seems and so So you had a little fun with it on social media. We've had a little fun with it like it started with elliott sadler. Giving me hell about on on twitter weekends ago. It's your the reason this is happening Good or bad you're the reason Of course and you did see somebody else in comments today. That said that they.

"This is the final land weekly on the final with us once again. Is kyle petty. Welcome back to the program. Be here man. Good to be here okay. So what's the update on your kyle. Petty charity ride. You've had a couple of years off now. Because of covert right. We did not do it again. This year about that so You know with with with the pandemic last year Being may And depending mcclatchy we kind of put it on hold. We were going out in the phoenix area to do some stuff And this year. We were just so uncertain just still uncertain by the time you get the december january february. When you got when you got to pull the trigger on it we were still there was still so much uncertainty about what was going on with the vaccine and what was going on in the world so he pulled the trigger again. We'll probably do something in september october. A small ride here on the east coast but The big ride will return in two thousand twenty two. I promise the big rodwell return. Well that sounds great. Well you've got a lot of other things going on as well A new show called dinner drive with kyle. Petty it's a good thing that your name is kyle petty because it was in the title. That's what i told him. I said what if you want to fire me and get another host. They had to change all the graphics. I said it would have been easier just to leave it. But i listen. I am really excited about this journey. We go back to the pandemic. i'm setting at home. I'm thinking about you know shows and things. I'd like to to be watching or things i'd like to do and i thought you don't want to so many cars shows. I don't wanna do a car show per se. But i wanna use the car to get to the person so We started talking about it now. I was having a conversation with a free and we started talking about sentimental cars cars that we just grew up with. You know sixty eight ford station wagons. You know what. I mean to chrysler imperials and you're thinking you know. These aren't these aren't aren't like classic cars not mainstream cars. But they're sentimental car so The concept is you find somebody you ask them. What their sentimental car is that leads and says well. Let's go to dinner. You know and we jump in the car and we go to a restaurant and then we just have conversation And it's been fascinating. Been fascinating. i. I have i. We shot eight episodes this year I'm really proud of him And listen i say this. And i want to go ahead and preface this before anybody watches it. We're a week away week. Away from from the premier but The thing is i come up with all the questions because these are questions. Cow petty wants to know. But he's questions. You may watch it. And say i didn't need to know that but just remember cow. Patty needed to know that. That's why i asked that question I did dale. Jr. richard petty and mario andretti from the racing world. herschel walker. They love the third And rick flair from from the sports world from other sports and then was fortunate to do Darius rucker and pit bull mondo upper s from From the music industry. And it's such an eclectic group The conversations go everywhere from dell dell juniors concussions And what what that meant to him and his career to what the city of charleston means to to to to darius rucker to You know the passing of ric flair son And i'll wait. Armand going up little havana in miami. So the conversations are good And it's just it's a fun show. And i know i rambled but it's just a fun show you're the guest you're allowed to ramble speaking of guests. Do you find that there. Maybe more comfortable in in that scenario rather than a big sound stage for tv you know what. Here's what i find I think they're more. I think these guys and obviously there's a lot of them. I knew i already knew so. It was just a conversation between friends Just a conversation that we had danced around. Probably but i never really asked. But i think they're more comfortable because It's somebody's sitting across the table from them. That they know you know has has been some of the same situations you know you put yourself out in front of the public and you failed You know it's not all about success. Sometimes everybody just wants to know about the success part of of doing things but there's a lot of failure in that success and You know. I think it was a fascinating. Everybody knows i love music. I love music. You know so talking to darius rucker you know here's a guy that went from pop music to country. It's a totally different genre. You know what kind of what kind kind of intestinal fortitude to take the switch streams and in the middle of a career But at the same time you know. And he's like this here. You're playing out. And i'm like yeah and it's a lot scarier play and play music hitting balls. I can tell you that because it's something you're not comfortable with so I think they're just comfortable just talking about things. Absolutely the show is dinner drive with kyle. Petty it premieres on the circle network thursday july eighth at eight. pm so check that out now. One of your guests is pit bull. He's made news the recently. I mean earth shattering news with track house racing. I mean that's pretty timely. Right i couldn't believe it. I.

"An episode a couple of weeks ago, Dale Jr did a wonderful job. He's with Matt Dillon er as well sign up at peacock tv dot com to get started. Watch. Season two. I've lost racetracks. We'll talk to Darren Rovell coming up here in a second. By the way, McLovin always loves to bring up the Houston Rockets, and they weren't a great team and they didn't beat anybody. And they won because Michael Jordan was not playing basketball to win the 1995 NBA title. The Houston Rockets beat the Jazz who won 60 games. The Phoenix Suns, who won 59 games and San Antonio who won 62 games, and then in the finals, They face the number one seeded Orlando Magic with Shaquille O'Neal. And swept them. Yes, well, you know, it's funny. I was like their first title. They were like the best team in basketball. And then they just completely took the second year, the regular season off the second year. Somebody's gotta rip Rudy T for not getting his team fired up, but they still won back to back titles. No, I'm sort of joking, like they were obviously incredibly talented, but they're the lowest seed to ever win it. And that's just weird. Darren Rovell, the action network. Darren's been covering the athletes and their name, image and likeness longer than anybody in the business. We figured he'd be the right guy to talk to this is, uh, Happy National Image and Likeness Day. Darren How would you sum up what has happened so far? Well, I guess in the first since 12 midnight Dan, it seems like it's been a little bit of a wild Wild West with athletes. Just signing deals with sports Bar is my favorite was Jordan Bohannon of Iowa, doing an autograph signing at a fireworks place today? Uh, but, yeah, I know it's going to be a cash grab. The problem is, you know there is still some compliance here. The people are going to have to check with their compliance departments and make sure they're not breaking rules. There are rules that are still in place. Your Dan so People who have social media followings. Huge social media followings are expected to cash in and we're just going to have to see if this is just fool's gold. Or if there is some real money to be made by a bunch of people. You just tweeted that the one of my favorite college players Derek Stingley, junior The cornerback at LSU has signed with a sports bar that has 19 locations within Louisiana. Like an ambassador for a sports bar. Yeah, exactly. I mean, these are like typical endorsement deals. Um, you know, the I think where people have not taken into account. Uh, you know, they think about Spencer rattler in Oklahoma. They think about Sam. How let you and see they think about the quarterbacks, the running backs. All the guys were lined up for the Heisman and say these guys will make money. I made a list of 20 people yesterday and half of them were women volleyball players. Alana Walker, Antoine Walker's daughter, The Cavender twins, the the twins, who were on the Fresno State basketball team. Uh, there's a girl named Olivia done. Who's a Gym? NIST at LSU, who is expected to sign more than a million dollars worth of deals. Today. She has a hip hop falling of 3.9 million people, so it's not only He just athletes are using sport to get the endorsement. It's also people who happen to be athletes who have used their stage to become influencers and now can take money. But you start to look at this. And I'm guessing universities are hiring compliance officers or people who can help the athletes. Business managers can an athlete higher. An agent. Can you have an engaged an agent that is helping you with endorsements. Athletes can do that. Um, there is a fine line here. Obviously, most of them right now are pretty much operating through direct message on Instagram. Uh, there are standard booster rules. Obviously, a lot of people say Oh, this is going to be the way to cheat. An inducement to be recruited. Uh, hey, I'll do an autograph signing. After you sign. You'll do 5000 pieces or you'll do one piece for me and I'll pay you $500,000. The one thing that's so crazy about this stand is that the CIA has not had any rules. As far as what is the price that should be like If this person has this many followers. This is the price that it should be in this rage. If not, you know, it's got to be double or triple checked. There is no one on the N C side or anyone who the N C. Has hired We're checking these things. Uh, this it's all up to the schools. Uh, and then one more thing with the schools. What happens if if Derek Stingley junior signs with walk ons, But the main sponsorship with LSU is their competitor. I expect that to happen a lot now, right? Like so we can pay less less use wanting this where we want to ambush the the official sponsor, because you know we're their competitor. I can see that happening. What about a high school athletes? It's really once you sign. That's the role. Um, but then the question is, are guys going to sign earlier, for example, Arch Manning? Mean there, Arch Manning. I could see could make $10 million as a freshman in college. Um he's everyone who had Peyton and Eli are going to want to sign them. There's no one really now coming up that like you see, he's the God When you say who is the guy who is going to go to college and just blow this thing up? That's the guy who I think of so but he's got two years to go. The question is, and there's still a lot of questions here. If he commits to his school does that start the timeline? Is there going to be a salary cap? They're not going to cap anything. Um, they're not allowed to the to just had had a case that they that they lost, Um, where they're They're just going to be really sensitive to capping. Everything. I mean, the question is going to be. How much are the schools going to help out the kids? There's one thing that's kind of the elephant in the room. Here is you know, when I'm talking about name images like this that I've been covering this since at least 2000. It's always jersey sales. I'm a fan. I want the name on the back of the jersey. But it's just always this weird thing where they have the number. You know who it is. That's why you're buying it, but it doesn't have the guy's name on the back. Jerseys are not in this conversation because it requires a business deal between The player in the school, and they're just that's down the road. Um you're not allowed to use any of the schools, trademarks or logos with anything you sell. Derek Stingley cannot appear in an L s New jersey.

This is red scheduling, so it's kind of like riding a bike. Get in, got to kind of figure out how to get going where you got to go and how to do it. You figure out by now I know it's just talking to people hanging out asking questions and telling stories, which Isn't brain surgery. Thankfully, I barely qualified to get home. But I'm glad you're listening. 749 £7800 Billion.780. He had been talking about epic ways. You either quit a job or someone you've worked with or had worked for you. Who either melted down or did something ridiculous when they decided they didn't want to work there anymore. Besides just giving notice as a sort of leave, you know, an exit stage left before we get to those holding had to mention something else. Someone sent me a weird story, which I always appreciate Sterling. It's a sterling radio dot com or sterling at 700 wlw dot com. Uh, something I was unaware of. Uh, And this is strange that they had a stink in their house, apparently and horrible, And they didn't know And I did not know this now, and I've not had this problem. But now when I get home, I'm gonna have to check it out. Apparently, there are some filters and stuff on Washing machines, and apparently, they'll get clogged up. Maybe you get stuff you didn't clean out of your pockets. I'm not sure exactly how this works. Um, but it ends up getting to be gunky. Stinky, nasty, Uh, odor odor in the in the house into someone on tick top. And so getting, like, 10 million views on this and cleaning the filter in the nastiness. That was a part of it. I've experienced that with the refrigerator in the past one of the when I first moved out on my own years and years ago now And I also had it happened once in an apartment where some doves apparently decided to Nesta in the fireplace area, above the roof and and sort of like the chimney space and then couldn't get out. And I kept hearing something. And I told management and they're like we don't see anything. We don't see anything. And then, after a while, they cease to exist in there and indicate and there was an ugly stinks Subsequently. Then they had to tear out part of the fireplace and It was nasty. So I'm wondering what you've either found out that you had to clean or some type of stink stuff. I have a little fun on a Saturday. Why not from, you know, extravagant, crazy ways of quitting a job to maybe some stink around the house or otherwise. 749 7800 the big £1.700 on 18 20 at Sterling Radio on Twitter Later, Mike D Wall going to join us from space dot com and we'll also during the inside pitch, getting ready for the Reds and Padres. They try to bounce back after dropping the first two of the four game series. And what is arguably paradise on Earth. San Diego, generally home of the Green Taco and I remember going out years ago, told Jack Murphy Stadium checkout reds and Padres there and they had these guys beating these metal drums like you were in Jamaica or something. And they had this insanely good cattle corn. I don't know if they have that at the new place or not downtown. But just the same, I guess is the cowboy would have found it. If that's the case. We'll talk to Bobby Knight Dale Jr. Though during the inside pitch after six o'clock before first pitch at 7 15 Glad you're along on a Saturday, Sterling Mike, It's your turn was sterling on the big One. Hey, man. Hey, Mike. Hey, How's it going? Good. How are you doing? Pretty good. This is going to tell you a story about an employee have as a manager and we were short staffed at the McDonald's one morning three cook and drive through and me as a manager working the front and this guy, I mean, we were busy getting hammered. Yeah. He must have called his girlfriend. She rolled up into the drive thru and I sit there and watch him. He climbed out of the drive through window and got into climbed into her window of her car. That's how he left the building and never came back. Never came back. He as he because in the funny part is that he wasn't a small guy. Uh and you've seen how small those drive through windows. Some of the drive through windows are Yeah, because you don't want people climbing in, right? Yeah, it was comical. So I just let him do it because I thought it was funny watching them struggle to get out of it out of his drive through window. Now did you end up sending him his check? I always wonder when somebody bails out of a job like that. Do you send them their money? Or do they come back to ask for their money begrudgingly after they leave in such a crappy way or what? Well, they have direct deposit setup. So you know, they just get paid for whatever hours they had on the book. And, um you know, they don't. They will never come back. He never see him again. That's what I would imagine that job. It happens a lot, because I mean, you're dealing with people, you know, sometimes not the nicest and drive through a customer service. So I mean, it works. Both ends on that with short fuses, but That's pretty spectacular. It's almost a shame. The guy didn't get stuck in the drive thru, but then that would have messed up business for a while, too, Yes, that that would have messed up business. But I think everybody would have got a laugh. T and a young man stuck in the drive through window probably would have tried to find a way to sue as well. And Mike. I appreciate the call. My man reminds me one of the five high schools. I went to none of which, by the way, regardless of what can Bruce says, I'm not here causing problems. I'm just making sense of things as best as I'm able, it's not easy, sometimes. But one of the five high schools I went through. They had some skylights. And this is just an early days of having computers in the school, at least at this particular school, but some people tried to break in to steal stuff. And apparently fell through the skylight and ended up having a pretty severe injury because you know it's a long way down and then subsequently tried to sue the school district for not having the skylight secured well enough. To keep them from falling in, or at least letting them know that it was a hazard, which I found to be bewilderingly. Ballsy is I can only never imagine it's weird. We'll get to Ellie in a minute talking about the stink I talked about with filters and knowing you've got to clean some stuff around the house. But first Peggy on 700 wlw was sterling. Hey, Peggy. "Not your interview with the good doctor. There was interesting to say the least, because you ask you a couple questions that he didn't answer. First, you ask him about shots versus people who have actually had the disease. He gave you a statistic on people who have had shots have not been hospitalized. He did not give you this statistic. People who have had the virus and then possibly got to the second time, which is a very, very low number. How many of those folks were actually in the hospital? Never in the history of vaccines. Have we vaccinated people who have already had ah, virus or the disease. It doesn't make any sense or just a long time. I wish I had more but real quickly on this and Gary. I appreciate the call is simply that the experience in the amount of time that they have seen the re infection rate, the hospitalization rate. And the variants that are sort of spinning around in it, And it's all beyond my pay grade, which is why we have the experts in but a solid questions, and I wish I had more time. "When Jeff Gordon came along, there was this natural rivalry between the two as well as their fan bases, and it really invigorated the sport of NASCAR. To the point where it was at its height. Number two spectator sport in the country ratings on TV shot through the roof. People couldn't get enough at the tracks themselves. It was the heyday for the sport. And then I'll never forget. Like Elton, uttering those words we've lost Dale Earnhardt. And like many of you, the sport is not ever been quite the same for me. Couldn't watch for a full year. I couldn't turn it on. I couldn't. I couldn't think about it. I couldn't even read about it even though I was working in the sports industry at the time. But in these 20 years And this is where Daytona started on Sunday. With tributes and reflections. ESPN did a great E 60 on Dale Earnhardt, not his loss as much as his legacy in these last 20 years, and Dale Jr didn't extensive interview both for E 60, as well as with Fox pre race He talked about his memories of that day, some of which I had never heard some video I'd never seen before, but he also talked about His dad's impact on the sport as a whole. And what happened in the wake of that crash when NASCAR loss its biggest star? Is that there was a commitment to safety. Took NASCAR losing Dale Earnhardt. You really hammered the point home? There had to be research technology equipment. Constant. Battle a constant cycle of making the sport safer. In addition, Mandating things like the Hans device, which is technical, But it's a headed next support that Dale wasn't wearing that day but is now mandated. By the sport. Different helmet upgrades. The cage is that these guys sit in in their cars to protect them. In the 20 years since Dale died. No driver in any of the top three levels of the sport has perished. In a crash on the track, and that includes Ryan Newman from a year ago. Ryan was back in the car on Sunday at the Daytona 500 while he didn't survive well, sorry, Wrong word while he didn't Make it through the 16 car accident. Early in the race. He didn't come through that unscathed. He did start the race, and he took the green flag. He remembers nothing about the crash from a year ago, but we all do. And it's likely that he survived because of the safety upgrades and protocols that were put in place that were put in motion after Dale Earnhardt's death. That's his legacy. That's his impact. Though I sure wish we still had him. Sure wish that He was still unknown. Er, a team owner still On the track, maybe not driving anymore. But winning in other ways. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio, so the pre race was dominated by memories of Dale. Contributes to Dale and then they get on the track and they go a mere 15 laps before the rains come first. It's lightning strike, and then it's a monsoon there a Daytona, Florida. Nearly six hour rain delay If you missed it, by the way, FS one is replaying the race right now. They're late in stage one. Take the race restarted somewhere around. 9, P.m., Florida time, six o'clock Pacific time. And so they they're going along and it's becoming a Denny Hamlin. Dominant day yet again, he moved into fifth all time. Most laps led the Daytona 500. He is tracking down his third consecutive checkered flag in this race, which has never happened before. When He makes a decision on the late pit stop but actually ends up putting him back in the field. And he didn't recover far out front just got on and off pit road too good. Just.

"We've spent the last 90 minutes discussing they learn heart and his legacy throughout NASCAR throughout the sporting landscape, the first call we had today for my boy, J. Rob really struck me about how, even if you're not a NASCAR fan You knew Dale Earnhardt. You knew that impact and you knew that he was the goat in NASCAR history with those seven titles and the way he built that amazing career, The phone lines are just hammered, and they have been all day long. We're going to get through all these now. By the way, McGee won't be joining me this segment he's making SportsCenter television right now on another channel. Jimmy in North Carolina. How are you, Brother? Good morning. Thanks for calling Marty McGee. Good morning, guys. So when McGee said something about videoing, a Richard Petty fan and not wanting Mr Earnhardt to beat Richard And his records. Well, that struck a huge quarter with May I'm a born and raised here in Greensboro, North Carolina, and that everybody knows that's Richard Petty Country. And you know I didn't. But I became a Dale Jr fan first. And then after I learned about him and his dad and his dad's history, you know I became a big Dale Earnhardt fan. Gotta have so much respect for Mr Norton. And Dale Jr. You know. Talking about how he relates Tonto Everyday man. Well, there's a Leonard Skinner song that Eyes called simple man and greatest sense. One of my favorite all time brother. I'm telling you, it's gonna be played at my funeral. I can tell you that right now. Now, uh, did ot everything said up to this point and beyond. The legacy he left is fine and dandy. It's Dale. Jr. Thank you guys so much what you do and keep up the good work because it's stories like this, or we're shows like this that help people like me understand? Who these guys are where they came from. And and what they've done. Well, thank you. We really appreciate that call Jimmy. Very well done. And you're right. I can relate Torun, McGee say because my daddy loved biggie. My daddy was a biggie guy. And he loved that black Chevy and I was a Davey Allison guy. Davey was my favorite driver before he died, as well in a tragic helicopter crash at Talladega in 1993. I love Davey and I can tell you we were the father, son. We would have We would be running out of the church. We would be waiting on a preacher to say a man so that we could get gone and catch the green flag of the NASCAR race and see the Washington football team which we always got in our area because it was really our protein. Seven hours 67 hours away. Took and I was the channel changer it be back and forth between the race in the game. And And remember that vividly myself and I will tell you Uh, I wanna Davy to beat Dale so bad I could taste it. And we'd always get pizza pizza on Sundays, and that was what we did. We watch NASCAR and we watch the NFL. And it was. It was amazing Bond between my daddy and me. Great collagen. You appreciate that Scott in North Carolina. Acid commentary on Dale's legacy. Good morning, Scott. Hey, there. Thanks. Thanks for taking the call. Um Yeah, I when Ryan was talking about the two part legacy. I thought he was going to go. I didn't think about the safety part. I grew up in Indiana going to the Indianapolis 500 of the kids loved it. Rick Mears. You know if he lost that was In controllable for like months. Um and then my dad, but he talked him into getting in. The NASCAR just told him it's more competitive. Racing. Um Better finishes. And so my dad Ni. This is about mid eighties. Are you going? Upto Brooklyn, Michigan. Um And and fighting through all that traffic to get to the race, but it was worth it right around the brutal traffic braking lane. But, you know You know, the first thing I remember about Dale Earnhardt up there is like You go to look at all of the merchandise. And there was a big trailer where you could pick you know whoever you wanted T O get that hat of a shirt of Um, but I was thinking part of his legacy was he was kind of like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. The rest of the world That didn't pay attention to it. Because if you look to the left or the right of that trailer, there was the Dale Earnhardt trailer and I believe he was the first one, didn't he? Trademark the image of his number. His name trademarked Our Drivers Market it? Yep. Yep. And the signature. Yeah. So He really pushed everyone to be like, Hey, what we got at market ourselves, get ourselves out of the masses, and he led that charge. And so, um, yes. Somewhere in an attic in Indiana there, hopefully Hopefully I've been talking to my dad about it. Is the box that has a bunch of old 80 school eight old school eighties trucker hats with Rick Mears. And there aren't hard on him. We gotta find those Scott immediately. No. No, I agree. I've been talking to my dad about it. So he he's not sure if they're there or not. I'm gonna be upset If they're not appreciate that call, brother. I'm amazing Amazing memories and You know, I tell you, it's funny. I'm so grateful for just looked at Twitter, which as any, you guys who are fans of this show? No, it's not something I make a habit of doing. Except for when Marty and McGee's on and appreciate all your kind words about my recollection of that day in the previous block, and I was saying the Luke during the break. It's not something that I talk about publicly ever. Because I never want Dale Jr. One thing that I never want to happen is I never want Dale Junior to think that I'm leveraging I relationship I never want to be in a position where he is disappointed in me. For anything that I say about him or about his dad and I've voiced that to him in the past, and he's always like man shut up. Working, but But that's why I'm always kind of reluctant to go there. But today's the day to do that, because We are discussing his father's legacy with so much depth, And for that matter is grandfather's legacy. Biggie wanted to race because a Ralph And it's a beautiful racing legacy. I mean, look, Dale Jr. He's a Hall of Famer. Now, man he is he has been. He has been voted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. And that's as a guy who never want a cup series title. That's as a guy who want to Daytona 502 Busch Series championships and above that was the face of the sport forever and above that, when the sport was in its darkest hour the day we're talking about 20 years ago, Dale Earnhardt Junior put the sport on his shoulders and he carried it. If Dale Jr had decided that day I'm done if he had decided in the following week, I can't race NASCAR would not have raced but because junior raced, everybody raced in the sport forged on That weight is immeasurable..

Denny Hamlin wins at Phoenix to secure berth in NASCAR title finale

"Hamlin who wins at Raceway to advance to the championship round and joined his. Teammate Kyle Busch I. He made Mark Drake's junior and Kevin Harvick and I'm glad you're here stevie because it feels to me like Chris. Gabe Hart is the Steve Waugh Tart Denny. Hamlin that you were to orange junior in a way because downgrade the poor guy that no I mean I see pro series. Yeah Chris Gebhardt and any have found a way to do it on their own. Think you saw it with the swagger. I disagreed with the final pit. Call soon as it happened. He had a huge gap of lap cars. He could've put on four tires. I can't say he would have been the first off pit road. He could have been the first car. Pit Road maybe only beaten by the twenty one I would take that position every day. Gebhardt stood there made the call and and then and then kind of let his guard down victory lane after and said Yeah. My heart was pounding. I didn't know if that was right. Call but that's what we were going to do. And that's what I did and you know what. Listen I have no problem saying I disagree I I disagree and I have no problem raising my hand and saying you know what I apparently was wrong because two tires did work and it was impressive and toback to your original statement. Danny you know just believed in it and made it right and that's kind of been emblematic. I think of why this relationship is work so much. In the reason the gay part reminds me of you with Dell junior is gay bar comes in a and he has this accountability. He has this. We're going to do things differently. WE'RE GONNA hold everybody to higher standards not that. The team wasn't capable of winning or continue championship it before but there was something missing and then he talked about it a little bit yesterday that they're not best friends off the track but clearly the professional side works and Gabe. Gabe heart believes in him. I think the way you believed in Dale Jr. at a time when juniors conference was low I think Denny's confidence was a little bit low cut off last year and it's worked well between them completely. I think gave heart believes denny at times more than denny may believe in denny that's Not a placebo man. That's real. I mean. Sometimes people that are extremely skilled talented and whatever they do lose their way and forget why they're so good at something and it's hard for us that don't have that skill to explain it. I can't drive a race car I I can't. I'm not a professional athlete. So sometimes that lack of ability helps me appreciate their ability helps me remind the driver you you really damn good. Look at everything you've done and Denny Hamlin this year on the track off the track in the media on social media taught top to bottom inside and out is a different style driver. Then he wants was the one thing he didn't change which I actually like is. He has the superstar superstar swagger. Yes some don't like and pick on them and it's fine if you don't like it and he's okay if you don't like him which I think is great but you know sports heroes become heroes. Because they're not immortals they're they're bigger than the people cheering them on they act bigger than and Denny's that guy right he's got the Jordan man. He'll take a picture of his plane. He'll tell you how how good he can be not boastfully but confidently and I actually think in today's sports we need stars like that. There's GonNa be a group that don't like it they're GonNa like the Ryan Blaney kicked back. You know trucker hat and a cold beer and that's Great Cheer Ryan Blaney. But there's a group that I think you earn for some swagger and if you're looking for swagger you kind of have it
