"Last year we launched a story writing competition. Children promoted through the the northern Echo. We have damaged media par with local radio stations media partner and on the back of the success of the of the book we ED. We launched our competition and one of the One of the marketing Slogans the Thousand Building Society is adopted is cold colby gone so it's like big on education big on community kind of saving whatever it might be so big on education fitted really well with big Paul Education So we lost story writing competition to schools and the idea was that they had to write five hundred. Words was there was a category for primary. Every school children on a category for secondary school children. They had to begin this story with the woods. Little design no don't don't don't and and then that led to something big happening in that story big on education the hundreds the first year we got something like four hundred entries freeze for the competition. We have six finalists. The finalists came to they have to read stories in the local theater on stage. The local theater in from tall automall professional golfers the judges and the the prize was the children themselves got their own heightening books books but also also they wouldn't five hundred pounds with books that local schools and so and that's a that's a lot of books for the local school library So five hundred pounds of primary school five hundred pounds for the secondary school and And that goes towards what call. I should have said that the Dalai Foundation all the profits from all the books sales any cells that we get the bulk. All of that goes into the Dalai Foundation and that money is used to buy books for the schools in deprived areas so every way turn the whole project is helping to Educate children and get them reading. which I just think is such an important thing for children's to read use use their imagination and be inspired and it's happening fru this idea of using a children's this character in a book to to promote financial account at a local building society but it's grown and grown and and? I just think it's been. It's been a brilliant idea when a great great success so it really embraces some important and very fundamental values values doesn't it it has nothing you know. There's nothing more important than than a child getting a good education to set them up for success in life absolutely absolutely absolutely so. There's a lot of planning that goes on behind within the building society. You attend meetings that kind of thing. It's pretty structured. It should well organized but on a more personal level. I know that you touched on this. You you said it's fun giving giving out money and when you have to the kind of thing but but what you get from being an Bassett or how does it feel to you while I think it's good for me while first of all it's good for me because he's positive my business so I mean money's resulted in an and I I make about because you know I'm in a position now where yeah. I'm a freelance. I'll have to win living But as you said you know I'm very comfortable with. I'm in a position now where I I don't have to suffer fools anymore. I can pick and choose who want to work full and I'm really proud. Two Thousand Building Society Kohl's a Very very Very ethical you know. They're putting profits back into the local community so for me I think it's one is really good film. I believe in what I'm doing on. I want to play a role in getting being children reading Inspiring them to read Because I've had a great life because of my love of the written word and it's taken can make to you know all sorts of places I wouldn't swap that so if I can inspire children to to read and then write themselves in all three become offers themselves in the future journalists already What about my I get a huge amount of satisfaction from that and.

"And it was really the first time that I saw that this was legit like this was not just sort of silly myth or this like people were talking about this. And there was even a couple sentences about things that Dolly had wanted to have happen in it. And they were nuts, like, you know, like like Harpo cracking a nut on a midget, and then handing it to Groucho you'll Gill. Yeah, I'm graduating the nut and spits it back in them in the in, in, in the. Anyway. Monkeys just really crazy stuff. So, but I was intrigued, you know, because I, I'm never one just to believe that what I'm seeing in front of me is all that there is like, if there's something about something, there's probably more about that something somewhere. If you look hard enough, and so I sort of, and then at the same time in my head, there, is that sort of delusions of grandeur thing coming on, which is like, I could make the next Mark, you. You. You know, like I could be that guy you're going to insert little person recent mentioned, noon, boycott. Dahlie, specifically use the word midget, you go live in quoting, but so the point was is that that's sort of where the, the spark of maybe I could do something with the started, and then the more I dug in the more, I reached out to the Dalai foundation, who sent me to, you know this. To them. Did you say Hello, Dolly? Yeah. She's been hanging onto that since you were booked. Surprisingly, the only we booked. Sitting on that joke for years. Could leave. All downhill from here then. Surprisingly, the Dalai found go ahead. Josh, yes. Go ahead. Go ahead Villefranche sing referencing the midget, I just want you to know dad got off. Yeah. You really did. Because in, in the fashion that it is presented its unique, and let's face it, which walking about Dolly and the Marx brothers. Both entities were absolutely unique. And I it was a great choice. It's a it's a marvelous, what I would call icebreaker at a dinner party to give us even more historical context. Tell us a little, and I'm going to come back to Josh in this journey but tell us a little bit about your dad's relationship with Dali. Well, I, I'd rather listen to Josh quite frankly. Tell them about your mom and her interaction with Alex. I love this Harper's wife was the most realistic person about this because I think she thought the whole thing was nonsense, I should be she told me that it was alert now. We like to hear what happened to the harp. Yes. Bill the harp. He said, well, for those of you who are not familiar with law, screenplays books, or whatever Robert had. Distinct say pleasure of coal writing my mother's biography. And so he spent a considerable amount of time with Susan who was not exactly the most sentimental person an entire world, probably more interesting than all the marks put together, she carved out a life of her own. In spite of the fact that she was shuttled as a child from place to place to place to place and never had any friends of our own. And when she was young until she met Paulette Goddard when she was sixteen or something net. Wave earns dance class..

"And and I've been studying, you know, lost pop culture histories for twenty years now, and I actually didn't know about this until really the last seven or eight years. I heard mention of it at one point just in passing that Dolly had, you know, attempted to write something, but it really wasn't until about six years ago. When I decided that I really wanted my next book to be. Taking a lost or unmade movie by someone or some group of people that I admired and trying to uncover what was left to work with and try and finish their work. I really felt that would be something really interesting and cool to do. So after I finished my third book. I started scouring the the internet for for, you know, all of those lists of, you know, the hundred, you know, great character roles that no one ever got to see or or the fifty best unmade movies. And there is a ton of these lists of unmade movies and on all of them along with Verna Herzog. That's how you pronounce it. It's not very. Me along with Herzog's. He wanted to make this like a Spanish Mexican civil war epic. And then Kubrick's Napoleon Napoleon on all the list, of course, dune. Sure. And on pretty much all the lists was Salvador Dali drafts on her spec salad, and it was really the first time that I saw that. This was legit. Like, this was not just sort of silly myth or this like people were talking about this. And there is even a couple sentences about things that Dolly had wanted to have happen in it.
