"Making that film was pretty nuts because it was fairly recent that she passed and we shot it in the town that they lived the family and in a house right down the street from the house that they lived and where she died. And everyone knew her in this town. It's a really small town called fairhope in Alabama. And I would go into it we'd go to a restaurant for dinner and the hostess would be like, oh, Nicole used to sit here and she would order this and it was just that's weird. That's not normal when you make a movie and people everywhere will tell you things about her. So I was constantly informed and constantly living in this. It wasn't on a stage. It wasn't totally fake. It wasn't it was very, very real and her daughters came to visit set and it was a really beautiful time. It felt like definitely being out of time and in a bubble. Yeah. So our 2020 comes comes around and all of our lives are thrown off track by the insanity of what happened in the spring and has been happening saints. But you did not, a lot of people, their inclination is to put on pajamas and order Postmates and just literally zoom in to work. You have been working at a pace that is probably faster than ever in different going from one bubble of a sort to another. But the one that I think was the first chronologically. And I think the one that we really are going to want to talk about the most is the last starter, which this audience just saw.

"Of locked in. So there was a lot of trust put in Jamie and I. Yeah. Now in and around those I guess before and after the first film and then somewhere around the other two, you were doing you began to really do a lot of other very different stuff with a wide variety of very good directors. And I just want to prompt you if you have anything you'd like to say about a few of them. Black mass, you were the girlfriend of lady bulger for director, writer director Scott Cooper, who actors who are not necessarily fans of everyone like Christian Bale's a very specific guy. Loves working with Scott Cooper. They can't stop working together. I know. She's so annoying. Cast me. Because. What makes what makes people want to work with actors want to work with Scott like that and what was your experience with black mets? I loved working on that movie because of the I mean, so cool to do like a Boston mob movie in the 70s. And to, you know, work opposite Johnny Depp was like very inspiring and he's an a crack an incredible actor. And Scott was, I think that the environment he creates is really uplifting for an actor feeling like good. So maybe people like to hear that? Yeah. He was an actor, yeah. Yeah, he was an actor. He's just like a very warm person, and he makes you feel like he makes everyone feel like you're in this, you know, like, family, this group, and it's in that you're making something special in the set is really respected. It's very quiet. It's very serious but not self serious. So it felt very, that's probably why I love working with him. Also, I think when a director really sees you in a way that other people don't or other directors don't, or maybe you don't see yourself. It's incredibly fortifying, I think, for an actor because that's everything. I think for me, especially as wanting to find out new things that I can do or be new people. And just to have her on the point that you were working quite a lot. The first Fifty Shades was 2015, black mass was 2015, and then so two was a bigger splash, the first of the two movies you did with Luca guadagnino. Who is at that time was probably best known for I am love. Now maybe best known for calling by her name. But in between are these two very special movies that you guys did together in a bigger splash in 2015 and then suspiria in 2018, you and tell the swinton in both of them and that in itself might be something we should talk about because a very special access to there. But just how did it sound like there was there was an unexpected first meeting with Luca that got this all rolling, right? Yes. Yesterday I was told his birthday..

"And Jamie also looked after me and I looked after him and we got to a place with each other where like, you know, at the time, intimacy coordinators didn't exist. Right. Which like, I don't know what that would have even done, because we had people on set that were consultants like we had this man who was himself a BDSM that was his life. And so he taught us everything. And it was almost like how you would imagine people learning how to sword fight in a movie. But using a riding crop and a flogger, but there's an etiquette to everything and how you hold certain things and what you do with the and it was so interesting to learn. So it became more of like less of like a scary, sexy, weird stuff, and more of like wanting to really get it right for the people that really wanting to respect this type of sexuality and that to me was really cool. And learning about it was really cool. I don't know what it would have been like if someone if a woman was like, or anybody, was there, you know, saying, Dakota is it okay if Jamie touches you here? Jamie and I really had to figure it out for ourselves and really protect each other and then make sure that everyone knew what our plan was. Because it was, it was the kind of thing where it was too vulnerable for other people to dabble in it. Does that make sense? Yeah, and I wonder if you can just set the scene for folks who are trying to picture what it's like making a movie on a lot of movies. You know, there's sort of behind the scenes photos and you'll see there's a zillion people standing behind the camera doing different functions or just hanging around or whatever. Were you guys able to do more of a closed set? Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Completely closed set. We would have the camera operator and Sam. Yeah. And like a boom operator in the room. And then, you know, after you get to know everybody, we filmed all three movies in Vancouver. Tony, the sound guy would be like laying on the floor with a boom like this. And we'd just be like, making jokes the whole time. It's like it's uncomfortable for everybody. I think. So the first movie comes out and is a huge, first of all, there's a big promo ahead of that big publicity push, of course, and then it does very well. And I would imagine that you're.

"And this is a special live episode being recorded at Chapman's felino theater in orange, California. In front of an audience of my students and other members of the community of this great film school. Today we are privileged to be joined by an actress who is a third generation Hollywood star. But who, since popping up in a brief but memorable turn in David Fincher's the social network, 11 years ago, has very much made her own name in the business. Now 32, she shot to fame through a trilogy of blockbuster films released between 2015 and 2018, which were inspired by the bestselling Fifty Shades books by EL James. But it has been primarily through arthouse films that she has established her artistic bona fides. Among them, Luca guadagnino is a bigger splash in 2015 and suspiria in 2018, Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nelson's, The Peanut Butter Falcon in 2019. And this year, Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut, the lost daughter, in which she plays an overwhelmed young mother who establishes a connection with a woman who was in her shoes, decades earlier. The Netflix film is coming to select theaters on December 17th and then to the streaming platform on December 31st. But rolling out on the fall film festival circuit since September, it has already brought our guests some of the best reviews of her career. And it has brought her to Chapman today. Would you please join me in welcoming a very talented actress and producer who also happens to be this week's THR CoverGirl Dakota.

"Best friends. Most the time I felt like they were married and I was just a bystander. Everybody. It's mad One see how you were doing. I really like her face. Hey, Free Lu e Feeling tired. Thanks for being here. We'll miss it. Way talk for a minute, Matt. It's going to get very hard. You're going to see things from the cold Never seen before. You need to do this alone. Come help you get to the other side of this love toe. When you watch the trailer this movie, it seems a lot more lighthearted than the movie is, And it's not that those things aren't in the movie. It's that the trailer makes it feel like It's almost like a little bit more serious of a movie than you, Me and Dupree, where it's like you've got this goofy friend who's involved in their relationship, and there's a lot of silly scenes and whimsical moments, and there are but they really kind of distilled a lot of the comedy and the light hearted moments into that trailer. Most of the movies about this woman who has cancer, and it's based on a true story. It's about a real journalist. It shows his life with his wife and their kids. And when she gets cancer, how they're friends of theirs. He's kind of like the fifth wheel all the time, and they even have another friend that they talked to in the movie where he's like he's kind of a loser, and, you know he doesn't have much of a life. And why is he still hanging around you, But it's really where a friend steps up. And helps out another friend. I've obviously never gone through this. Thank God. I mean, this is a horrible thing to deal with. You know, if you have a loved one, especially who's young? You know Dakota Johnson plays The wife, So, I mean Chan lived a full life yet she was getting cancer or thirties, and this stuff happens and it's it's devastating and it's awful. And it's rough, especially when you've got kids. Particularly younger kids who are losing a parent, and I mean there's a lot of emotions to unpack and deal with. And that's what most of this movie is. And to that extent, I mean, the acting's very good. I mean, Casey Affleck does his understated re tread of Manchester by the sea. He's not really the stand out of this. The stand out, I would say, I think Dakota Johnson kind of steals the show when it comes to her parts, But I mean, she does they do fall into and I hate to say cliche because it's based on a true story. It's just that cliches become cliches for a very good reason. And that's because When somebody is dying of cancer. These things happen and these things are said It is a realistic portrayal of what would happen even if it is something that happens a lot. But she does a good job with her role. And Jason Siegel is the is the friend. He doesn't find job. This is just not my cup of tea, and also I'm not a big fan of the structure of it and like is that everything that I take issue with in this movie? Is more of a taste issue. It's it's something that I don't particularly like. And I tried to recognize that when I see a movie where I'm like, Well, this is it sort of this hodgepodge of jumping around the time line, and it's almost he's fly on the wall scenes. It's It's not a through narrative. And that's just not something that clicks with me in this format. I've seen plenty of movies that have a disjointed structure, but I just didn't like the way this was put together. But it's a totally a taste issue. I don't think it's bad filmmaking. So ultimately, our friend, I think is a decent movie. Personally, I'm going to say it kind of sucks. But if you like this sort of thing, If you like to tear jerker, you'll probably enjoy this one because it's defective. But still why is that? I got to say kind of sex. It can to sucks. I don't like the sound of that You're listening. In fact, I was at the movies with Kevin Carr. The next thing I want to talk about is the sister. And I say Thing is, it's a TV series. It's a miniseries. On who a man with a connection to a woman's murder ends up marrying her sister and finding himself covering up his past. Are you doing digging up the woods?.

"JT Kevin Flanagan joins us now to talk about a couple The movie's opening up this weekend, so opening up in theaters or streaming. Yeah, it's gonna be a little bit of both. JT's matter of fact, it's gonna be a challenge to find him in a theater a little bit of a challenge find its dreaming, but they are opening this weekend. With a little effort. You should be able to see it in one or maybe even both of those places. So the first one is called Psycho. Gorman. As matter fact is, it's got a working title of PG Psycho Gorman. And it's Zee kind of a fun movie about a couple of kids kind of an adventure, but I will give this caution right up front. It's got some scary stuff in it, and it's a little bit creepy at times. So these two kids find a space alien. They also find his little space rock kind of thing, and what they discover is they can make this scary. Killer alien monster do whatever they want, and he could make their parent's behavior whatever by controlling him with his little walk, and it is, it is. It is very funny. It's very cute, but there are some parts. They're very dark, so psycho Gorman is made for that between ager age. It's probably going to be better for teenagers and older s. Oh, hey, that's psycho Gorman. And then there's another one coming out. Yeah, so there's no coming out. That totally flips the coin on that one. And this is a serious drama now because I say there is some comedy and that you've got Jason Siegel, who's a funny guy when he wants to be a Casey. Aflac is in this as well. And Dakota Johnson. This is a drama about a woman who gets some very bad news. She's not gonna live whole lot longer, and she's got a husband and two young daughters. And they've got a good friend, a single place. Who realizes this is gonna be tough for the family. He tells his buddy. I'm gonna I'm gonna move in and help you through this time, and I'm just gonna be there for you guys and You know, whatever it is your wife did. I'm gonna help pick up the slack. So you end up finding him in the kitchen cooking, which he's not good at you find about the cleanup Killarney, which is really not good at helped raised two daughters, which he couldn't be worse That So there's some real fun, touching tender scene Throughout this movie. There's some hardware you're gonna cry and you're gonna laugh really hard. But our friend is is destined that be a powerful, impactful kind of movie are folks who get a chance. Wants that. Hey, those are the ones coming out this weekend, JT, and we've had many more coming out next weekend. So we'll we'll talk about what you can find streaming all on next week's show as well. But hey, from one of these and others you go to Kevin and movie guy dot com. Alright, Kevin. Thank you very much. It is a 26 Alabama's morning news. Coming up. I promise you, I swear to you, There has to be some little girl ghost that is in this apartment, he said. He said he constantly hears the voice of a little girl in his ear that just whispers. Joey. Ever since he moved into the apartment. So I said, You have to get out of here. This is insane. There was a ghost child coloring at your table a half hour ago. That was not your little cousin's daughter. Just box Joey marks. So I felt completely unsafe. I didn't like being there. I left. And to this day, Joey is still in the department. And he still hears the little girl voice in his ear. And he feels a presence when he's there. Me, and I've never been back to his apartment. What was the movie? How to be single. What was that movie? Yeah, with Dakota Johnson and rebel Wilson. I think Joey killed the old man in his apartment. But that's why people don't stay in that apartment. I'm sure they're being haunted by that little girl Ghost. Different. Good storage else. Good story. Thank you. Thank you for that. How old was his? Ah, Nisse. Or whoever, because she's probably like 76 or seven us. Sort of watching R rated movie with, you know, she went into the living room. Watch something else was watching..

Who should replace Ellen?

"News is ongoing. Generous. Ongoing News that won't stop are one nemesis might be replaced by our other nemesis. On their talk show the Ellen show. Well, these are that this is them news, but I do feel like Ellen could be replaced with a WHO, if this all comes to fruition or like a WHO thinks so too person because I'm seeing a lot of people nominate various talk show e people although apparently the rumors are like James Corden is going to replace Ellen, but like he has a show so. That makes no sense to me on any. That's what blows my mind. Why he has eight hundred shows. He has just made another daily show like that doesn't make any sense to me at on. The also has carpool. Karaoke. And then he also has the cat sequel like he has plenty, oh. Yeah. Let's replace a supposedly nice person with another supposedly nice person like. Haven't. We learned anything from this thing. These people are Nice. They suck. I think always be wary of people who say their thing is being. I think the number, one person who should clearly replace Allen is Kiki Palmer. There's literally no. Better obvious. Getting a lot of a lot of traction and she showing up a lot of tweets because it's like she just had a talk show that got canceled for no reason on ABC. Well, it was like that one hour of Commerical Strahan. Michael? And Kiki Sarah? There was A. Third Sarah. Sarah. And Michael and Kiki It just give it to clean working it. Just everyone likes he. We Love Kiki. She's a great host. Who else do you think if if we're going if for skewing young? I think we to Kiki for skewing older, I think it should go to fucking the woman who should have gotten David Letterman, amy. Sedaris like give it to amy sedaris because people like her. She's silly. I don't know that, amy, the thing is I. Don't know that Amy Sarah's would want to do that I. Feel like. I don't need that. We're talking about this on the Patriot. If you WANNA. Go listen to that about how drew Barrymore also has daily, show a daytime show coming out, and I'm like who would want this job? Drew Barrymore wants this job since when like it's just to meal a a weird job that you wouldn't want that could turn you or probably. Turn you into a monster, right? Yes. but the to provide a context in case you've been under a rock people are like there. There have been the rumors for years and years and years, but specifically the past few months they've really you know the hit a critical mass and started being reported publicly like Ellen is an asshole to everyone. Ellen is an asshole. The people she works with Ellen makes people not talk to her ellen cruel. But now there are reports by like news and variety and insider that it wasn't just ellen being a to everyone and celebrities and not liking Ellen like being on Ellen show. It's that the executive producers were actually like being abusive like in sexually harassing the employees. So it's like a culture. Culture of toxicity. That is the sort of thing that I don't that Ellen is deciding up allegedly that she doesn't want to deal with anymore. So she's like this sucks like I just rather not do this anymore. Right. So but this rumor, this isn't this is in fact, this is rumor because people keep their keep going back and forth and saying some some sources say she's not leaving this show sums his sources as she's leaving the show. I. Can't imagine somebody as likely a annoyed with the whole situation who is known to be not a very nice person would want to continue to fake be nice and have to apologize and half to like kind of whatever because these rumors have been. Kind of like I for some reason I, keeping you Kevin Spacey Pre the abuse allegations like when everyone knew he was gay, but no one knew he was gay like it was weird thing where it was like if you knew, you knew if you didn't, you had no idea what be totally shocked it. Kind of feels like that type of Hollywood news where like everyone knew that Ellen was secretly mean except for Ellen fans who had no idea where living happily with ellen everyday of their life and like the show was wildly successful, right? very strange. A very strange thing. Do you think that this will happen because people are so bored in their craving, the Gospel, and then somebody just this is this is what I mean I, think it's I mean. It's a combination of a lot of things at one of is like the people finally speaking out about their employers. It's like finally like shutting down like the. The systemic issues and leg, not being corporate America and knowing that people will support them and believe them and believe them, and that like the media machine of Ellen isn't powerful enough to shut down. So many voices if enough come out and and we'll talk about it later in the episode, but it's like the it's similar to the. Vanessa. Morgan thing, it's it's shades of an ESA Morgan being like I'm going to speak up against the riverdale creators and the Riverdale producers because people are people are realizing that they can do that and they won't get like dumped on by the press or of their fans they will be seen as like heroes. But. It's also just like, I, Think Dakota Johnson had a tiny bit to do with it because Dakota Johnsons like Open crubaugh open open. Rudeness to Ellen SORTA. Gave People. I don't know permission to speak about rumors that she's an asshole more openly. They're like, it looks like that's what Dakota's referencing. So I didn't even know you liked me. Of course, I. Like you. You Knew I. Liked you. You've been on the show many times and don't I show like. But I did invite you and you didn't come. So this time you invited me, are you sure? How do you? I don't think. So ask everybody. Jonathan. Your producer. I was that, why didn't I go? I don't know that became a meme. You have people like Brad Garret and who else replied to him. Leah Tom's Tom's joins. She is mean she is. She. Yes. Now, I can't believe I just called the Thomson. So Deutsche US minor. That was obsessed the disease of this show right here. Yeah. Leah Thompson also respond to that and said Yep I mean, I just think that it's like no one was a true story note once you lose grip on the fear, you are the power you had over I mean, and it's funny because then you have scooter Braun coming out her being like Ellen is great. I. Love Allen is like so people still. Look at the people coming out and say L. Like scooters, hedging his bets at this, all go away and back to normal and Ellen will still be powerful and whatever, and then you have people speaking out i. just it's a fascinating reveal of a monolith almost kind of crumbling that you didn't think would ever. Be exposed like this. I didn't. It seems like Palmer is getting a lot of A lot of press over like a lot of tweets being could replace. Ellen is trending key Palmer got a lot. Tiffany haddish. Got A lot that woman who does the like trump impersonations? What's her name? Sarah? Cooper. She got a lot of people tweeting about her I mean, I think it's just bomber just someone who someone who actually. Got Some tweets booing reply Oh doodoo be from drag race also got A. Drag. Race. Got I. saw that. Yeah. But I think he palmer when you when you want someone who has like the resume as well like. You of don't WANNA, pick someone random like Sarah Cooper. As funny as she is on twitter, because like her her her skills as a as an interviewer, not proven whereas Kiki, Palmer is a link interviewer host. Yeah I mean I would say like the Ellen slots, big slot made we just move up the ladder. We get Kelly Clarkson in that slot. We get Drew Barrymore Kelly was and we get key. Palmer. Work. Curse, lot I know these are all people on different network. So it makes literally no sense but you. Better like we. We cannot confuse the audience. We must replace the Ellen show with someone named. Ellen. Ellen Ellen. Page's like don't look at me like another gay. Just like I will not I will. Zone POMPEO, she wouldn't do it. I. Don't I don't need Elon Pale. Ellen Page Ellen Popular, and Never Would Ellen Pompeo every interview Ellen Pao's ever done. It's been like I. Love Grey's Anatomy I. have nothing but free time like. She will never do that. You know who would do it. Who Ellen Barkin? Embark and all Ellen Barkin wants is a soapbox like did someone say soapbox?

2020 Golden Globes: Winners and Losers

"This is the big picture a conversation show about the seventy seven. Th annual golden in global wards. Amanda here we are once more. We think we know what we're talking about. Enter these things with great confidence even knowing that the Golden Globe boards are famous famously. wonky messy goofy silly stupid and they have shocked us once more. Nineteen eighteen seventeen has won best drama. which I don't think either one of US predicted we in fact you did not pick that I think we thought all four of the other contenders had a good story story? I I do want to say you and I washed together and you. I believe pitched picked joker on our podcast Dixie Irishman. And at one point you shared with me that your wife was going with marriage story and and we watched a two popes commercial and I was like well it could be two popes and you said you. We've now talked about the possibility party of four of the five winners which means it'll probably be nineteen seventeen now. Look you and I are very lucky to have these jobs. We are but I do not claim to know anything like. I'm just going to put this on the table here. I don't I don't know anything. I know people who knows stuff but I don't know anything and this is an example of having any confidence about doing any of this stuff. I thought a lot of Adam. Sandler's character from uncut gems. When that moment happening where I was like this is what must be like to be an awful gambler? I think I went like four for fourteen tonight. Some brutal number. I think you and I are luckily tied at four hundred fourteen. I just WanNa remind you that I very confidently set on the podcast. I I think I got four wrong. That's true and I thought that would have been impressive. It's only get four rowing and four wrong would have been absolutely extraordinary. You would have been going straight to the damn. Am Bank on forum is tough interesting. Telecast tonight I actually thought it was quite a dull show for most of it. There were some head-scratching picks. There were some entertaining speeches. Let's let's we'll get back to nineteen seventeen and all the races. We'll go through race by race but before we do that. Let's just talk. About the telecast itself Ricky Gervais returned earned as the host fifth time he brought a a unique energy the show this year an energy I would describe as fuck all. He really did not seem to care. Think he literally did describe it as that multiple times when he told the audience to go fuck themselves. He was mercilessly bleeped. Throughout out the night He really had the attitude of a person who would be happy to be anywhere else but at this award show I'll be honest. I know it's not cool to set kind kind of enjoyed it you did I. I kind of enjoyed it not because I thought he was funny or useful but just because it was different. I've never really seen that before. There was a train wreck vibe to it you. You kept cackling at like you. Would just he would say something and it would be silent and then and then you would react to the fact that nothing was happening but him just like melting down. I love the idea of people who work at network or a famous person in the audience watching just like quietly recoiling at everything happening onstage on stage. There's something kind of joker ask about that and I I thought your race was kind of like fake provocative. Most of the night and a lot of the jokes. We're kind of like ooh look at me but not actually with anything deep to say about anything which is a lot of his humor in the last five to ten years but he definitely succeeded in bringing just the sheer shear nihilism to the performance. Yeah and I thought that was the one thing that was a mistake. I don't really care about Ricky Gervais xl. I didn't think he was very funny but I wasn't offended ended. My main thought process there is monologue was like oh I really don't like comedy like I don't like the active comedy or anyone who thinks that they're a comedian. It's just like not for me so you know. Yeah that's that's how I spent my time tonight but bio for you by the way comedy. Not For me. It's really not just don't care. I don't think it's funny but I agree that the show is boring and it felt like purposeless a lot of the time and some of that you remarked as we were watching all the commercials for like whatever weird. NBC Plane Show. They were debut and it would say when it was airing on NBC would say like an streaming the next day and there were commercials for Peacock. Doc and Amazon and ethics and all of the platforms and it was just very clear that this is a network. TV like dying right in front of our eyes yes it was a stegosaurus. Soroush slowly falling to its dinosaur needs so hiring someone to stand up on stage and be like this doesn't matter on the one on hand it's true it really doesn't. It's very putting his finger on the truth of the thing but you know they're still trying to get people to watch the show for three hours in order to cover. The advertising is and and to save their network and it I just did. Your Vase just reminded me of like this. Like this is an outdated form like. This actually has no relevance it didn't make me feel feel bad about committing my time to it though for some reason maybe that's just a six drain of my personality. But I I never felt like well I do. Think the show at Townsville purposeless. I didn't think think that his like ruthlessly blase approach to everything. I I just I. I liked it. There was. It was not the same old like back patty glad handing and and also the same Tina fey and amy poehler ask like were above it but will also do the show Biz dance thing you know that. That was raised a characteristic of their three times hosting. I think all of which were pretty fantastic. I I love them as hosts but the tonality of their hosting was always like. Isn't this stupid but also I will perform for it. This was the first time I ever saw anybody in this job. Go like fuck it. I don't care yeah I guess that's interesting as a one one time thing. I don't think you can ever do it again. Right couldn't run it back. Yeah and he swore up and down that he would not be back. I just I understand that reaction. I spent the whole time being like I'm being reminded so many different ways that I have complete control over what I want to watch now and what I content I want to take in and I just. I really really don't need to be listening to ricky surveys right now. which is now because she was defending me or because he was spectacularly unfunny? I was like I don't need this it's a great point I wonder how what what percentage of humans who are watching television. I chose actively to just throw on a streaming service instead of watch this award. Show which is what they would have done. Yeah say fifteen years ago to fascinating thing anything else else to say about your vase. I mean he really just gave his monologue and then came out. And kinda deep side his way through a couple of introductions and that was really the whole show that is true I they will say that the only kind of provocation that I was like I'll give him credit for or the I will remember is every time he would just yell back at the audience. Yes you did it not me. Shades of Amanda hosting play. Yeah it was. It was unusual. I look forward to the future hosts of the Golden Globes. I think we have now served our ricky surveys time. Yes other notable things things from this. TV Show Ellen was was fitted with a with a big old tribute. The Carol Burnett Award which is now an annual award which I guess last year was the first year Carol Burnett won this award and It was interesting I I think on the one hand Ellen. Degeneres is a hugely important figure socially because when she came out that sort of change changed the perception for a lot of people of the gay lifestyle in America and what a celebrity could be in the future. Twenty years of career has been much more about being a extremely extremely rich famous person and posting talk show and I couldn't help but notice an American Express logo in the middle of the montage that to her that did happen and a career highlight montage included her being an American Express commercial. That seemed like Perhaps a subtle metaphor to a lot of the things happening in such an image is to Ellen's career. Yes I agree with that. I will say I thought they keep Mckinnon speech to her was very moving and funny. That was the one time I was like. Oh I do like comedy and and you can see Ellen. Being moved by that. And and that's why she was on the stage. I think I think that's the reason that they can give her the award. Or that's that's the stated reason and then it is also because she's just been on. TV for seven years like printing money for various people. Yeah you the Hollywood. Foreign Press gives out a lot of awards on the night they give out awards to actors and actresses and writers and directors and even composers and Ellen doesn't really do any of those things. She hosts a TV show but there is no best variety show category so she used to be on the Sitcom but that it was a long time ago. Why why was Ellen at the Golden Globes because people who would not otherwise watch the Golden Globes like Ellen and they watch every day on TV and they watched the clips on answering? I gotTa tell you on the instagram explore tab like an interview with someone POPs up. I'll watch that. I'll watch that stuff steph. Every time I wash it into minute increments you know. I also have a lot of thoughts about Ellen's Politics in the last ten years that I'll keep to myself so but but I think did they give her the award because it brings a different audience. Let me ask you this. Where was Dakota Johnson? That's what I want great question that is so good for those of you. Who Don't know there's a legendary moment on the Ellen Show in which she interviewed Dakota Johnson to Johnson Mentioned that she was having a Christmas party. And Ellen said where's my invitation to send it to you. And she said I never got got it. And then they had a bit of a showdown and I think Dakota came out on the other side of that one. The champion is she did because Allen had been invited I believe it to her birthday party. Ellen was out of town and do you know where L.. It was the weekend of Dakota Johnsons Birthday Party. I was she in Amarillo. Texas with George. Yes she was there you go so yeah Ellen was celebrated. That was fine. I tend to enjoy these lifetime. Achievement awards I think one of the sadnesses sadnesses of where the Oscars now is. Because you know no offense but demons like you complain about how long the show is and so we have to lose things. He's like a lifetime. Achievement awards out of the Oscars which gets into the governor's awards which happened months ahead of time. And we don't get to hear about the great works of I don't know Sidney Lumet or Sidney Poitier gay or other great men named Sydney and unfortunately we don't see that at the Oscars we do see it at the Globes and we saw another great tribute to another great great man not named Sydney. This man is named Tom's names. Tom Hanks this was a this was lovely. I was very moved by it. I'm just moving past all the slander. We'll relitigate the Oscars for two and a half hour. Make them you know. Don't link continuous. Shot make a good TV show making good TV. Show that people WANNA watch all the way to save movies. It's the only way to save TV. It's the only way to save like I don't know celebrities and rooms together just make TV. Show anyway. I thought the time hanks was good TV. Because you know who's Great Tom. BUGGING HANGS AMERICA'S SWEETHEART GETS UP. There starts crying two seconds because his family sitting in the wrought Edison because he was on. I think he's a nice person. And he was like someone had fed him Hypno- and he was he was fading out and then he just goes goes into like your uncle who knows a lot about making movies and wants to give you advice mode. It was great told you all about the gate. Yeah the gate cleans. The closing properly is a I also just watching the montage. I just pointed out to me I just really love Tom. Hanks his work and also I was thinking about our podcast and the hall of fame. And I'm really really mad that I caved on. You've got mail. I should have put it in over sleepless in Seattle. I'm just saying that now. I'd like to apologize to the many people who reach out to let me know that they would have supported. Did that decision. I let you guys down. I will say I have not thought about that one. Since can I have thought frequently about how we left Saving Private Ryan off. which was you? It was my fault but I was reminded instantaneously upon that podcast publishing. In fact that podcast went live and I felt like three seconds later. People were like where saving private private Ryan. Even though they had not listened to it we next it saving private Ryan did make an appearance in this montage Tom Hanks's made like thirty bad movies. And it doesn't matter because his good movies are so good in so meaningful to people and his funkier sincere just general good guy nece makes people feel good and he happened to be in a good movie this year which is very helpful. He did not win unfortunately though he was nominated for best supporting actor for Beautiful Day in the neighborhood I thought it was great. I thought you know. That's not really surprising. He he is professionally decent and he seemed like a good person. He was very happy to have his family there. He was very happy to pay a lot of respect to Martin. Scorsese I believe. He gestured towards him three times during his speech which was adorable. You know I just. I wish that there were actually more things like yes. I like to be reminded of the people I like making these movies. That's the whole point of these award. Shows it's not to like breakdown whether nineteen seventeen is going to win at the Oscars like that's rusted. Do the awards shows themselves are to celebrate the great people in the great stuff. I still like that.

male female our I see every Wednesday but the recent past that hasn't been everyone's they they're in interruptions by the government the nerve of them to schedule hearings on a Wednesday or some of the reason a after a debate be that as it may thank god we got with today and I'm reading to you from time magazine our marriage beats living together in all the polls that they've taken to a trust each other more they feel closer to the person other than and in in marriage and then in living together my argument against living together is not a religious argument is not a this is living in sin argument it is purely practical marriage is deeper better better for you and better for society nobody thinks about better for society that's of the twenty th that but I think about it all the time it's better if people commit publicly and legally through each other than just say will will will live together because we love each other and the author in time magazine continues married people are advertising their commitment that's the point that's why it's better for society I want people to advertise their commitment quote when somebody tells you that's my spouse you know a ton of information about the relationship and the level of commitment this is from Scott that's a call from Scott Stanley a research professor and co director of the center for marital and family studies at the university of Denver that's right when somebody tells you that's my spouse what I said before the break give give me a break folks well I got a break a few times an hour but give me a break what what what is what what tells the world more information this is my wife or this is my girlfriend this is my husband or this is my boyfriend or partner big deal and she continues quoting this a research professor but you could have ten different couples tell you their co habiting in for some of them it's like dating with a lot of sleepovers for others it's a lot like marriage in terms of their intention and for another few which is the worst deal yes this is a key one it's one one person thinking it's one thing and the other person thinking it's not co habitation that doesn't force clarity like marriage those this article up my alley or what I like clarity leave a big fan of clarity as they used to have in the old cowboy movies the pew study suggests that if its commitment you're looking for being married is a pair of hiking boots and living together is a pair of stilettos both can get you where you want to be but only one is designed with that in mind good line I was rewarded for reading the entire piece just to get through that line it's terrific terrific line people should ask your people work together Hey you guys are you were wearing hiking boots or somewhat of what a Prager seven seven six is line seven working or just open what is the story morning glory and the answer is it's open we actually have one open line shocker rule okay when we take your calls the ticket William and craft in Maryland was it the other day I said to you were not getting enough calls from Crofton and and look at this is like a divine hand on the Dennis Prager show eleven that they did not call that yes Sir all I want to say on the early nineties it will all come and say I see person among my friends on a leave in a lot of religious Christian how to communities there are a lot of my friends are living together already ordered Mary although we are not getting their you know soon okay normally would be in my mind that offered that nothing is really going to change our he started laughing fit yeah they're wrong that's the point of this piece they're just wrong right and that there's no way they could know that because the they're not married but ask people who let live together and then got married right by me ask people everybody listening who live together and then got married say oh yeah there's no difference you're good yeah yeah I wanted to talk called on putting on the living martyr you do you've achieved something rare William you've got the living order to speak this is a very great moment in the show's history and now the it's awesome take it away all right so when susy Anna I'd lived together for a number of years I was sort of caught in that whole way of thinking and we finally decided well it we should get married I was shocked at at day one the difference between living together and being married it was truly it sounds so cliche it is a little bit cliche but it was transformative and I have to admit Susie makes a big joke out of this that from that time I would go around and talking to people as an evangelist for marriage I would say you have no idea it's you should be getting you should get married it's much different yeah and it almost became funny because I I I would stop somebody in the street and say by are you living with somebody you should get married it's much better world much closer the bond was much tighter how could it not be I mean it's it's it's how about this if you don't want me stuff perfect analogy but I think in analogies if a difference between renting a house and owning a house well you've used which is excellent but you use also used a another analogy which is the difference between visiting a country are living at that in a country as that say you're living there but you're not a citizen and being a citizen of a good analogy to you don't remember making them no I don't but I like it okay so.

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson talk about new gigs

"Both this week within just like twenty four hours of each other robert pattinson and kristen stewart stewart both had huge profiles. She was in harper's bazaar. He was in variety. They talked to him about batman and his new movie that are coming out and basically just like how he's going to be a huge. The movie star in the next year or so and then kristen stewart has charlie's angels and her photos. She was incredible. It was so cool actually very similar vibes patent since photoshop. It's how you know. Hers was good both black and white. They've got like the blonde hair right now and my unanswerable question is has anyone ever recovered from an embarrassing franchise start as gracefully as has these two wow honestly know if totally changed their vibes. Their careers look a poor actually green who's out here gone from twilight to hallmark movies. I know i know they're a million transformers but charlotte buff and megan fox both kind of had a hard next year. It's hard it's hard for like the teenage embarrassing movie star like recover and become like a serious serious actor yeah and both robert pants on an kristen stewart against all odds have done it. I think that there could be an argument made for dakota. Johnson can see shades me yeah. That's true but she was kinda respected. I feel like soaring that time in chris i it's true. "It's his first big film yeah so play it safe circuit overlay which are completely trying to tie up all the loose strings as opposed to like a more season nyman season just more settled filmmaker. I can do what the f. o. Want apparently alad terrence mouth is making a movie about a non nazi german and that had me shook oreo that was poorly set on. My part alleged then underway. Weren't you say ninety german right when i had turned ma i said this camera glitz with this person is making a smooth really likes towns malik all that stuff so i link ladder moment right i mean there's the news about him. His don't get we'll get. We'll get there but i felt like within those scenes of like the scene at night where they're talking shiloh buff and zach and also passed tyler aren't yeah with those sequences. I felt like once that ends in terms of like when dakota johnson comes in i feel like i was just finally starting to get to know them and settle into that and then they kind of cut away to not really plot but it's like it just kind of veers off in a way that was much less interesting for me personally but an and so i mean overall. I still really enjoyed how looked i loved. Shiloh buff in it's fantastic. I completely agree. Thank zack is great as well and i and thomas haden church is always fun all fun so it's it looked so good yeah and again. It's just a very simple gorgeous. Yeah well told story which i'm always up for. It's up there with. I might watch it as much ages misty evans holding while i'm not i won't with a been on your top twenty five of the twenty tens. It's tough. It's so you know. I am right now so yeah for sure but like i don't know i also really liked inspect yeah. I did really like the score as well me too and usually you no. That doesn't give me but i'd like yeah. Let's get a little bit the yeah and yeah i mean anytime it's just zack and shiloh buff hanging out like there's the scene very very quick scene of them in the water. Yeah it was like a moonlight kind of gender when he was little fingers. It's such a good movie and it's like generally laugh out. Loud funny and i felt weird..

"To chill. She said, I'm not going to go straight. It's making another record. I feel like I've done a lot. I feel like I've rung the bell of being a popstar very loudly. And I'm very grateful for that. Well, she's a shoo in for something. She's not a heel for the business. All right, Mary McCormack, aka Marcia Brady, she was one of the many celebrities who wanted to buy the Brady bunch house in studio City, California when it went up for sale, but marine figured that the other bidders like the eventual winner HDTV had deeper pockets than for marine were Cormac Walsh. Got a roller pennies underneath my pillow. They didn't take care of those guys. Very well. It was the seventy s now. But she thinks that HDTV will do a great job renovating it, I'm sure she wants a gig on one of the episodes. Yeah. No. That would be totally awesome. Her or you know, any of the cast of characters. Right. Any of the Brady bunch kids burnt? Yeah. Then finally Meg Ryan, son. Jack Wade always avoided the film when Harry met Sally because of the scene were his mom, fakes an orgasm. But he finally watched it, and apparently he loved it. He says quote afterwards. I cried for so long because I was so proud of her. That's weird is putting like orgasm. In tears and the. Crowd. Yup. Bill Cosby To Face Wall Of Accusers At Rape Sentencing

"Bill Cosby is going to face a wall of accusers at his rape sentencing. Is is the story that the district attorney in Montgomery County intends to present numerous witnesses who say that Bill Cosby has a salt of them all part of his sentencing hearing hearing, they're more than sixty women who have claimed that Bill Cosby, drugged and raped them. And many we don't know exactly how many of the women will be brought into court. But it sounds like the district attorney is trying to get as many as he can this is like Larry Nassar style. Right. I mean when Larry Nassar was convicted of sexually abusing more than one hundred girls in USA gymnastics program. Those women were invited to come in and share their victim impact story, which then impacts the sentencing decisions that the judge makes Bill Cosby is facing ten years in prison for each of three counts of sexual assault related to. His assault of Andrea Constand who was at the time a temple university employee. This was back in two
