"What he did. Edge of tomorrow see what else. He did American made and some other some other stuff. Yeah so what. Y'all think about this one. I thought it was pretty boring. i thought it was pretty boring not even i didn't even think that it was honestly like bad the way that reviews were making it out to to necessarily be but i was. I was very bored. More than what about you. I think this movie needs like some polish. I think that somebody needed to look over this script before it got the okay and was like let's get rid of all of this stuff an Just neater i felt like this movie was a was a little messy which was fine. Actually did it mind it. That sounds right. Yeah i think most could see that coming. I love the mood by any means. I think it's it's quite flawed. But i thought some of the ideas in the movie like the whole thought process out loud. And how all of that worked. I thought was great. I just i enjoy the world actually a lot more than i have other recent science fiction films despite it being kind of quick brush through things But i really. I am a big daisy ridley fan. Tom holland kind of goes in and out for me. But i enjoyed him him in this. I don't know actually. I was not hate myself. You know. i think you're right. I think that there are a lot of things about like the world and the concepts. That are strong. But you know i think that a lot of that probably ends up coming from the book or richer based on and so the whole time that i was watching it i was definitely like i bet a lot of this would mean more if i read this that was definitely something that just sort of perpetually sort of plagued me the whole time that i was watching it. I wasn't overly fond of tom holland. This i thought he was just okay in this. He's overall. I think for a performer for me. Like beyond spiderman. I'm not sure that he's ever really been in anything. That i've seen or or nothing that he was the lead in beyond spiderman has ever had the draw for me to be like. Wow that's what i need. I need to see this. Tom holland performance. So you know he did fine. I thought daisy ridley did better than he did. But also this was for me like be list. Daisy ridley on a certain level though. I thought i thought that i was kinda getting. Everyone's like second performance. Zeno what. I mean interesting. I don't know i think that. Gosh how describe this. How do i feel about this movie. I think that that tom holland is on a high right now. Which is great. I'm glad for his paycheck. I need him to stop. I think that he's i think he's wonderful as peter thinks that he's charming. I think that he's interesting. He's he's got these lake quirks that are that are enduring about him. This this character is none of those things for me but Strangely the same accent. I'm not sure. How much of an american accent. Tom holland do. But i'm good with new york. Let's try something different. you know. i thought that this was just like a fine performance. I felt like this could have been anybody on a certain level. I don't. I didn't see anything from him from this that i was like yes top notch. Gotta watch it best of the best. I definitely thought the daisy ridley was was a lot better I guess she's blonde in the in the source material. I didn't see why she needed to be here on why they chose that blonde. But it's not her blonde. It's not I thought that the cast was great and excited to see all these faces that i wasn't expecting to see excited Anything about this movie. It and i think the nick jonas's is is really distracting for no reason like why are you here. You can't shake nick. Joe that's like. Oh yeah nick jones. Yeah yup just deal on. His performance wasn't bad. It's just that he looks like nick jonas entire time. You can't just stare at them. You're like you know. If i listen alson like that's all i was thinking. The whole time that disney star right there. I'm sorry i'm sorry. Nick janice also one thing about the design. Mads mickelson's coat in this. His fur coat. Amazing looks your. Es yeah pretty great. And he's i mean he's always awesome. No yeah he's one of those actors that i enjoy a lot much of the cast. Were where people that i enjoy. I like damian bashir I was confused because the movie cast. Kurt cast kurt. Sutter weirdly by choice for for those who don't know he's primarily known as a writer he wrote the the sons of anarchy tv show. I think he started but left the mayans and yeah z. Show he also wrote southpaw with jake. Joel southpaw and then he also had the the one season medieval show bastard executioner as well on fx so he's primarily a writer so when i saw him i was like. Oh he must have been like a writer or producer on this now They just cast dugout right hall. Who who is as. I said this is the one that's one of tom. Holland's two dads. He's the one with the long hair. Oh the one who has like the chopping montagna. Yeah the one that ends up getting killed. Gosh spoilers doesn't matter yeah. No one saw this movie. It's okay and you don't need to know you in a couple months. It's going to be misunderstood masterpiece. Paddling show i liked it conceptually for me. It was just everything. Felt very half-baked was like otheir these aliens and for a while i was like okay so it's either going to be that the aliens are real and it's a real problem. You know ore. The aliens aren't real and then it was like aliens are real and you're gonna see one but only one and it's never gonna come back And then you have this whole the noise stuff but they never really use it in any ways. That are really all that interesting. Beyond a few times we get at us. Creatively at it ends up being more. Kind of like a wear a generic future post apocalyptic space western western man as and it. Just it gets a little loss for me. I think that the movie itself at times is a little unsure of what it wants to say or what it wants to be about at the end of the day and so it feels for me like we really do a lot of build up toward almost anti-climactic ending what what is the. What is the metaphor of this movie. I don't i don't know. I don't have the answer but see now i i did. While it's not like as deep as coulda gone. I do like the idea of like the challenge of everyone can hear your thoughts and trying to figure out a way if you know something that you don't want to have known to try and divert yourself from that like and again as i posted about it on my letterbox review. His inner monologue is so mail. It's incredible how super bad got like high school right. This is like an inside guys mind. Works like just saint these like scatterbrains things and it was enjoyable for me I think they're definitely moment of comedy from it. I could have pulled up on the stick on it a little bit. Just i was like is the like does he have like..

"Off talking about games. Calm our conversation that we had about the launch of one of the largest video game industry events in the entire world that although it was canceled originally due to Cove in 19 held online, they had some amazing video game announcements. Let's check that out right now. A checkpoint. To be your home for East boards of video games games come. One of the biggest video game trade shows of the year is is usually usually held held in in Germany. Germany. But But due due to to covert covert 19, 19, they they had had to to have have it it virtually. virtually. And And that that went went down down over over the the past past week. week. Dropping Dropping some some big big gaming gaming announcements. announcements. Robbie Robbie What What did did we we see see from from the Games? Calm? Well, first of all, like you said, This is one of the big three alongside e three and the Tokyo game show. So after this I mean, you know, looking ahead for the rest of the year. Any other big announces that we get are going to have to come. Specifically from the developers themselves, whether that Sony putting out their own announcement or Microsoft sort of doing their own thing, and I think a lot of people were hoping that we'd finally get stuff like you know, the reveal of what's the price going to be for the next Gen. You know, when's the actual date gonna be, but unfortunately, it was still just just more trailers, which I mean, I don't want to downplay that There was still a lot of great stuff and that's we're going to go through here today with some sort of some of the highlight ones, the ones that really sort of grabbed my attention and we're going to start Is with the the game that I wish they probably would have at least titled a little Bit. Better Call of duty black ops to Cold War. Dude, did you see? Okay, So how many titles going to get them right in the trailer of it? They have Ronald Reagan, Reagan, Which Which is is the the mean mean picture picture that that I I saw saw Go Go everywhere everywhere out out of of nowhere. nowhere. Is Is that that gonna gonna do do you you think think it's it's going going to to be be any any good good because, because, like like they're they're returning returning to to four four V V four? four? Which Which is a thing that the professionals of the CDL have been complaining about for years and years and years. But do you think that like casual players like the three of us here? Is this a move that we like? I've I've never personally been all that involved in the multi player version of Call of duty. I know that's where a lot of people have got their start gravitate to, but I was actually Mohr you know again. For me, it's always about the narrative in the story for me, was always the campaign and what's actually really cool about this? All the changes that they're making they're making to the campaign is, well, the single player version of it nice, and they remind me a lot of the stuff that you'd hear from RPG. So, for example, you get to customize your own like main character really playing it? Okay, There's also going to be certain points where you as the player Get to decide what to do. Next was the decision I make. What's the past that I take? They will change the way the game plays and can also lead to multiple endings for the game. Very interesting. Well, I'm not saying this one s O black ops. I think the first one that's like one of the main like campaigns have actually played and call of duty. I honestly think I played that campaign more than I played has like psychological plot twist like, Look, your operative like in Cuba, like you're doing all this stuff behind this. It's more like Blockbuster. Yeah, my my movie. So if it's anything like the first one, I'm excited and check out the black ops, too. But
Twelve Minutes Is An Indie Game With A Star-Studded Cast
"Minutes and its story driven and the idea is that this couple keeps reliving these 12 minutes over and over and over like Spike Spike Lee joint. Yeah, kind of and you get to help decide what they doing. They lived through it, but the reason that it jumped back up onto my radar. There's three characters that it in their voice by James McAvoy, Daisy are Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe was the narrator How, um, voice telling them They're crazy. Name out, Like even five? Maybe eight years ago. Your You're like, Yo, we're gonna get three of the largest Hollywood actors to do this small scale video game is indeed game essentially yet they're like wild. What are you talking about? That would never happen. But now in today's Age like that's what they know that they those names alone helps bring people in to play the game. I'm interested now more so in this 12 minutes game now that you said those three people are involved. Exactly. Okay, Well, what is this 12 minutes all about? And then finally, I think

"Just ask Greenbrae a whole lot, And he's now saying that he felt the Disney producers gave the nuanced story lines to white actors while excluding minorities. Quote like You guys knew what to do with Daisy rigged. Ridley. You knew what to do with Adam Driver. You knew what to do with these other people. But when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Bob Boyega, you know Sleep all. So what do you want me to say? What? What they want want you to say is I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience. Nana. I'll take that deal. When it's a great experience. They gave all the nuanced Adam driver all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let's be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows I'm not exposing anything, he added. And for the most part, I think that John Boyega is correct. The character of fin, along with many of the characters in the new Star Wars trilogy were woefully under developed. But that's because the writers and the producers primarily focused on social justice, virtue, signaling and pandering before the elements of good storytelling and not even that was a satisfying payoff because there Ted and create criticized For racism within the Siri's look. Next time, guys just tell a good story. I don't think that I'm the only person in the nerd fandom who has seen a precipitous decline in narrative quality in the universe is of doctor who in Star Wars and Star Trek and many other intellectual properties, and it's just kind of a shame for people who grew up with it, You know, maybe that's Ah, needless opining and belly aching, But it is one version of events and certainly with John Boyega now criticized The racial implications of giving nuance to white actors. I just think it's hilarious that that was the decision to focus more on social justice, virtue, signaling then good storytelling to the to the detriment of the Sirius itself. A Review of "The Rise of Skywalker"
"Welcome to the twenty minute movie review. Today's movie is the rise of skywalker in movie directed by J.J. Abrams starring Adam driver Daisy Ridley and company with a run time of about two hours and sixteen minutes. This review is certainly a very emotional one for me This is a movie. I've been waiting for for some time. It's the final chapter in the skywalker. Saga which spans over forty plus years. You know. I remember going to see my first when I was about six or seven. So you can kind of calculate how old I am from that But I gotta say without sounding cornball or cheesy. This is a very tough goodbye. There's a lot of things I'm GONNA touch on. I'm trying my best to keep Leonard Twenty minutes. This is the only one I have a lot of trouble with because I have so many thoughts We saw the movie on Thursday night a day before it opens up nationally. And and I have my awesome star. Wars Park on I have my beautiful Star Wars crocs. Yes I said that correctly star wars crocs Fox they are phenomenal but it was a Thursday showing nine fifty match three. By the way. If you haven't seen a movie that way okay. I cannot recommend that enough I max an three d together are just. It's a whole different ballgame. It's it's amazing but it's so refreshing to kind of look around around and see all these passionate star wars fans just here for that last chapter to here to say goodbye it. I'm not saying it didn't feel like a funeral. Oh it felt more like a thank you and thanks for everything. Thanks for the memories. That's the way I certainly felt and I could tell other people kind of had that same mentality -ality except for the kids sitting behind me. You know drinking talking sporadically throughout the movie. Please and I've said this a lot if you go to the movies and you feel like you're one of those people that can't shut their mouths. You can't stay off your cell phone please. Just don't go stay home like this. Movie is one that people the winning for for years and years and years and you know these kids innocent enough. We've all been there but kind god'll just stay home. I mean I'm tickets are not cheap to begin with and to. There's so many people there because they there to say goodbye to this the skywalker Guy Walker. Saga they're there to say goodbye to this franchise. It's been their life. I mentioned my case forty plus years for so many years and for someone to think think they can destroy that and take that apart that bothers me. There was a few other issues in the theater. Not near me. It's like a re stuff online about people being on their cell L. Phone and of course there's absolute eight holes that on facebook wherever that loved to ruin movies and post spoilers and it's just I don't okay people like there's people that just seemingly loved destroying your joy that extends outside of movies as well and it's like you know go f yourself like you're not here I mean it's just it's a very sick mentality to have it really truly is and long story short they completely destroy the movie for us. I I you know you'll hear from I review what I think of the movie but I don't know I'll never understand people that go to theaters and maybe it's subconsciously so you don't realize they're absolutely destroying movie even when you're like innocently talking to somebody next to you. You know many times older people do this. And not realize they're talking out loud like for me the cinemas Mike Cathedral the church is Mike. If you dress where I go to just you know just just key decompress. It's a place of passion for me. It's a place of solitude for me I love it and for people to go there and kind of ruin that I have so many problems with but let's move on with the good stuff. Okay so the rise of skywalker emission as almost a two and two hour and twenty minute runtime and it did feel like Our saying goodbye to a friend and I don't know the movie looks phenomenal the movie itself when you sit there the movie just POPs off the screen it this so good so well put together from that point of view from just popping off the screen the way it looks it's Jj that's such a great job with that I I gotTa tell you what I loved about them. If you're right so that was one I love you. And you'll see that the force kinda takes a new level right. The powers displayed by those who have the force in this movie. Rise to a new level in that was awesome so awesome. I love the fact that the gang was all back together. That made me feel so happy to finally after all these movies. You See Paul and thin and you know ray together. It was really great C. Three Po rt to they're all Carrie Fisher to some degree to it so to see them together. And that's rewarding in itself you. You know there's some other things The Sixth Planet I thought was kind of cool. Little thing there. You'll see that when you guys go to the theater not again none of these. I don't think our spoilers or take away from the movie. Palpitation is really really scary. Gary and again you see him in the trailer. So it's not really a spoiler but Palpa Emperor Pal Patine went from a guy who is just flat out evil to now. He's it's just pretty much like the devil and I love how they did that. It was a so creative so wonderful so kind of original the way they did that. People like world. We need palpitation back in the movie. You could debate that. I love the way they did. It I thought I was worried coming into it saying. Why are they recycling? Emperor Powell between but such a great job in how they did it I WANNA say and I know people say this all the time when a great performance on three and like Oh that person she wouldn't award or that person should it'd be nominated that being said me being a hypocrite. Just now I'm GonNa tell you Adam driver in daisy Ridley both serve some type of recognition for this and I'm not talking about people saying how great I'm saying Academy Award Nomination Good. They are so good in this movie. I was not expecting it. I know they're both phenomenal actors actors. I was not expecting what I saw today. And I compare this to the last movie. I reviewed the Irishman. I know it's a completely different type of movie movie but acting is acting in these two. Were beyond any acting. I saw in the Irishman. Adam driver has taken it to another level level. He is just you know he is solid a-list at this point but his ability is is scary. Good I didn't realize he was this good. And boy support around display and boy. When you see it you will be absolutely rewarded for going to this movie? Just based on his acting alone. I love light speed skipping get being negative show a little bit of light speed skipping that is worth it so for all the reasons I just mentioned. It's one hundred percents worth seeing. And you have the phenomenal John Williams Liam soundtrack who has left us. You know we'll get Indiana Jones Star Wars. John Williams has done so much for us as a composer. You're glad it's almost like expect greatness. And he delivers every time. It's obviously his last movie. I'm doing a score for Star Wars and I love how they ended with John Williams composer her score. I love that he was so good and he has a and I noticed it because I listen to music. He has a brief cameo in the film. which is Kinda cool as bartender so beyond offer that that is John Williams? We'll notice that I noticed it because I'm a nerd It it was. It was a really kind of cool a little cameo but the music is just so good the movie itself up to this point. I can't recommend it enough. Go see it. It's just so oh good and if you if you're like me if you've grown up with this you have a legitimate passion. You have a legitimate love for this franchise absolutely to go see it because what I've listed in the first ten minutes of this review is enough to warrant you going to see this.

"Fighting sequences between daisy Ridley and Adam driver and the space battles overall a really exciting there's a lot to take in here so he's he's crammed a lot of stuff in here and some people are you know a little concerned about that in terms of how to buy it yeah too much but you know I think it will spark a lot of nostalgia for really the Die Hard Star Wars fans I think he touches he connects all the dots pretty much with this one and you know I saw this in three D. and sometimes movies use three D. just because they can use it really doesn't add anything but this one if you can if you can afford to get that extra it really adds to the movie going I would say it really works the extra money to do that and so you know I I really enjoy this when there are a lot of people dressed up with the plan a lot of people getting into an already I think Thursday they said it's already made like forty million yeah so I'm giving this one three out of four stars okay the new Star Wars movie yeah he liked it okay all right I would I would see it again and now the other one we got is cat cat you know I want to see this one with you as I know yeah because I know your big cat I love cats but but I'm not human cattery cats well no I I saw the plane and we couldn't yeah and you know see I didn't love this one or hated it was just it was just weird it was like fascinating but weird in a in a really strange sort of way it's courses and people know the story it's about an annual cat contest known as the delicate Balinese presided over here by Judi Dench old Deuteronomy and so she chooses a special cat that will have a wondrous reincarnated life after their death well there's a big bad cat does play by aegis album and he has other plans he has the alter your modus and but I'll tell you the the cast is terrific Taylor swift Jennifer Hudson in McAllen James cordon rebel Wilson and the newcomer Francesca Hayward who is the ballet dancer alley dancer well a shilling I would like to see her in some really good because I think she has she has a real promising career ahead of her but I take it takes some getting used to to see these digitized very human prancing around and the music is memorable Hudson those blistering version of memory is really good and a her do that on yeah yeah she was really good and you know just Jason the real he only sees as Rumsfeld Koger with this provocative dance that everybody has everybody go what what is there's a lot of head scratching moments to it but I you know I couldn't turn away from it so you know its it's okay you I'm giving it to four stars sounds like I know no I wanna will see yeah I mean I wouldn't sit.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Review
"Star Wars the rise of sky Walker opens in theaters tomorrow the third and final film in the latest Star Wars trilogy the end of the road in so many ways for Star Wars especially for this storyline involving Luke Skywalker which all started with the first Star Wars movie back in nineteen seventy seven which I guess in terms of the Star Wars story is actually the fourth chapter and if you find that a little bit confusing you probably still have absorb some of the famous lines from the movies like use the force or do or do not there is no try or Luke I am your father which I know I know the line is actually no I am your father you can tell I'm sort of like walking a tight rope today because I feel like I have two of the greatest Star Wars fans in front of me right now but outside of that JJ Abrams is the director of the rise of sky Walker and just imagine that kind of pressure he's got the tough job of bringing it all in for a landing as I mentioned chasing Garber and Kathleen Newman remaining they went to a special preview screening of Star Wars yesterday before virtually anybody else they're here live in the studio dying to tell you all about it hello my friends Hey how's it going I feel like I said I don't have any good Star Wars greetings is there a good star was greeting hi yeah Jason is wearing a full tee shirts and has the charger beings Baba bobble head well the characters where's your yak give anything Kathleen you know and it's all in my heart something deep down yeah the forces in me so let's talk about this you get a chance to go to the press screening for the new Star Wars yesterday you guys go to these things all the time dozens even a week Jason where even the jaded film critics of Toronto a little bit excited to see Star Wars I mean look everybody's little **** it only comes of this but I think this is actually pretty good to go into this film with a certain level of trepidation I think that if we go in sort of too excited him to sort of objectivity we should be open to its terms I think that a lot of the film critics don't Nestle do that all the time but I think that most people when I'm with the appropriate level of a mix of objectivity in slate excitement of their there for an event Kevin were you excited I was very excited I got there a little bit later than Jason and I felt a little bit of the excitement but once the movie started it was dead silent like this is not a spoiler but when Landau courtesy and gets on screen for the first time Billy Dee Williams I lost my mind and everyone else is like silent which is what it's about which is a huge advantage I mean that like obviously leasing again with public and this is very much I mean it's like man to man the phones at Taft if you see them press for him to kind of a miserable experience you just have to get used to that but a film like this if you're ever going to see this movie theater on the big screen the because you can with an audience to get in the indictment so let's do it I can tell you I can hear you yelling your radio right now Jason I'll start with you Star Wars the rise of sky Walker how was fine suddenly I called the crime you went on Twitter for those over and it look let's let's be one hundred percent clear this is kind of the second and a half ending we've had we had returned the jet I which ended everything and we had episode three which was supposed to end everything Lucas's and then kind of the last job I had a great ending it's like the work done that of those you should go see it I'm not going to worry about it was the last movie that the the universe was going to be bigger and that we weren't going to be focused on the small story and then within us there was the whole notion that the myth of Scott Walker would continue as you see the kids playing with action figure and the kid who picks up the broom with a force you realize that this is not something that's patcher or matrilineal that is going to be bigger than this one little family we did have a question that comes by way remember these characters you really left we're gonna bring those back and focus entirely on that I'll make the story in some ways smaller so it's galactic in scope and yet smaller narrative scope and that is it's doing what it's supposed to do he was hired to do a job which the cap off this saga and it does it and it's fine but that makes it a little bit less interesting a commitment let's get into that in a second Jason says fine Kathleen I mean I think shockingly Jason I kind of agree here I'm I liked it I was very entertained I had a good time even with the jaded critics who were not like matching my energy level I agree that it's not great there is a fine as to what I do think that there's there's a little bit of like a course correction and that they seem to be doing with the last chat I so yeah he JJ made the world a little smaller and really abandon some of the really interesting stuff that Ryan Johnson had set up in the last chat I which is frustrating and makes it not a great movie I think he was trying to please everybody and trying to please those fans that were so upset at the last I and in doing that the narrative suffered and it's also just trying to be a lot try to be a lot of things to a lot of people and then I think it is in any of those things to anybody for example are two foot to a deep in the weeds and lord knows I cut but the way the blade of grass scene six so when I saw the fact that was not mentioned I'm a little upset and the deal is that let people think that this was structured that they knew exactly we're gonna beat I mean they always talk about Lucas having these twelve movie idea sort of written out for some of these are complete stripped away from looks as vision bat that goes without saying but what happened was JJ wrote the the force awakens as an empty are there was no ending there's going to jail just fantastic to look at openings right everybody knows that what has what he's really good at is setting the stage not traded endings hi everyone also knows self admittedly I mean he got in all those interviews actually talks about how this was going to be real tons of room because then he never was supposed to direct the film right other directions where involved actually like a so the deal is that when he wrote the first film they didn't know where it was going to go and it was one of those hand off it's like I'm going to set up the stage hand it off to you and you're going to finish this the second verse of the song that's what Ryan Johnson does run Johnson took all these ingredients and did something for many of us super interesting in super a complex and did essentially ministry talked about what is it to be found the end of of the force awakens is ray handing a lightsaber Luke Skywalker legally saying let's go and the opening shot of last chat I is illuminated at one yeah the last film the film after that episode eight is Luke Skywalker take fully superimposed over shoulder in other words I've been handing off the story to you and Ryan's first thing he does like let's not worry about this story that's not the interesting thing the interesting thing is getting into the nature the metaphysics of the deeper stuff but the force this film goes okay I can't remember the last thing you said okay we're not going to worry as much about this stuff remember these characters you're like let's get him together with all gonna be the same ship they're all gonna gonna ventures together but I want to point out the Kathy when you say that JJ Abrams who has had the incredibly unenviable task of trying to finish Star Wars trying to and Star Wars I I want to really highlight there that is an unenviable task it's even if you're not great even if you're amazing endings try ending the greatest film franchise in history so how does it do Kathleen as an ending to the Star Wars story that we now I mean I thought it was satisfying it's an it's an ending and it answers a lot of questions and as we know Los fans I feel you like we know that change is not answering questions and doing and ray yam asset is flying in and I think that this is just whether you like this ending and the answers that they give you but they give you answers and they give you a very definitive ending and you know some people already have set hi stag JJ Abrams is over party was trending on Twitter yeah it's I mean no one's gonna be happy about anything but I think that he did a good enough job I was entertained and it is it like a nice wrapped up and is it is no one going to be happy with this look at there's always gonna be people upset about this because we care right through well for lots and lots of reasons to ours is pretty fundamental to popular culture and the people have a vested interest and they have in a typical fan communities not everybody but a very vocal minority believes they have ownership over these characters and when they want things to go at a certain way this feeling as for this film actually goes towards a certain direction of giving them what they want and then they end up not wanting what they will think that they wanted that's one thing but I will say that these two fundamental things about changing his his course one lens flares you dialed the heck down with one foot above is one thing I'm like okay I I love that you love letters was god bless you but there's a big thing is he's a red herring you talk about lost as he's a guy who like put a shark and have a logo on a shark and they only got this has to mean something smoke monster has to mean something that's just his step he's trying to trick you a little bit and this film would be much more interesting of those red herrings were not red herrings but actually things that happened so what happens is he consistently in this film gives you something and it's one of those moments the other two phones have moms like oh my god you can do that all my god you can shoot a laser blast haven't hang in the air that's kind of cool all my god you can take a ship and light speed through another ship I never thought you could do that and this film every moment but there was like oh my god that's don't know let's start back that isn't what you think it was ha ha ha I'd something I went I was gonna say second I was going to say that I thought that was but it was it was actually the opposite of this but it makes me really excited to watch it to figure out what the red hearings are and and or not yeah that's not as well as a good teams but I will say that some of those those on inspiring moments that you felt like we're missing I felt them I felt like I was a kid again watching some of this these action sequences and some of that the lights ever seen her so beautiful and big and yeah will transfer to transport you back to your child because I was going to ask if we what we talked a little bit I should stress to set this up by the way I'm I'm speaking which is a corporate Cathy Newman remaining ever talk about the new Star Wars movie rise of Scott Walker what to do right I think the cast is so strong and I think that Jason alluded to it but putting them together like you've got Oscar Isaac daisy Ridley and John by a guy as fan PO and ray and they're together for most of the film and that "Hugely embarrassing moment with someone sesame oil you affirmative in my little twenty two year old self says, oh, no, a hate wed feminist. And then it goes later on in the race. I think, yeah, I am. I think I'm very bake feminist. And because I grown to understand the meaning of the word, you know, it wasn't this horrible thing that men have made it, it means a quality, and fairness, and don't quality and fairness yesterday. Ask you about making this film, and we're you familiar at all with the maiden or this race. How did you stumble upon it and become interested in it? Well, I came upon a purely by chance. My daughter was leaving elementary school, and that year the school had arranged to have a guest speaker and the guest speaker was Tracy and anew straightaway. When she started to speak that she was a remarkable character that's obvious to anybody who who needs Tracy. But, but as the story unfolded, I was just blown away by how gripping the story was. But also how inspiring I was sitting there looking at my eleven year old daughter. Eyes wide hearing Tracy till hotel. And it just struck me that this was, you know, would make an incredible film. I mean, I should say that the when I heard it, I assumed that the way to tell this would be dramatic form, because the narrative, the narrative exactly suspectful soon get that, because, you know, this happened in nineteen ninety nine there were no iphones around. How is that going to be any footage of all these dramatic events, the Tracy described and it was only later. The Tracy told me that they had had a camera the whole around this footage existed somewhere. So the prospect of making adult raised itself, so tries to who is shooting footage was at various members of the crew, and why were you shooting so much because there's incredible footage of so many key moments in the race. Some, you know, doldrums where nothing's happening and then some incredible storm footage, there's leaks. There's all sorts of things that are happening that you're documenting say, the Whitbread said they want to fall into boats to take cameras. And most the men's. Went way rough tough action. Silence we we're not filming with here to compete, and we stuck a hand up. We'll fill mill film because we knew instinctively that, you know, we, we never had a doubt that we were going to get round. We thought we were going to do well, so we thought we need to document this for the next generation or whatever. And so they gave us a camera we then fixed a camera on the radar mast with no of the boat had so that when we all need will hands on deck. We could hit the panic button on the way out when we would fill whatever was happening. And then, so Joe who is the cook and my lifelong friend from the age of twelve who who was the cook on the boat. She said, we should I'm not doing watch. So I'll film. So we said, right going get some training central for few days trading, and she came back with his huge the cameras were massive at the time of Asli and she. Just like me. And it just she just had a knack. An Alex is said to me, it is a lot of the success of the stock commensurates Geeta filming because she filmed everything. I mean she drives us nuts. We throw overboard a couple of times, but she kept filming, and she learned ways to not let us see that she was filming, which is how you get those candidates, not really realizing that we under scrutiny, we're talking with Alex homes, the director of maiden and Tracy Edwards, who's the subject of the film very little of the media coverage of the race was focused on tactics. Instead, it was about the gender of the crew. I want to play a clip from the film, and this is the Bowman Jeni Mundy few, the Christians, the articles written about is at the time the Louis digging for stories on will whose boyfriend girlfriend Lisbon's you sleeping around surely gang on that. Well, bunch women on a boat that size must be a lotta.
Netflix, CBS And Sony discussed on The Frame
"One day at a time the Latin x centered remake of Norman Lear nineteen seventies TV show of the same name is back for another season. Netflix canceled the series back in March. But yesterday pop TV CBS owned cable network. Announce that will pick up the show for a fourth season. Lesley Goldberg is the west coast, TV editor at the Hollywood reporter, and she joined me talk about the deal and told me, why Netflix canceled a series to begin with Netflix. Like many of the other streamers and the upcoming ones will not and do not, and will not ever release exact viewership data. So it's very hard to measure shows or movies success. But, you know, we'll look, I interviewed Netflix, head of original Cindy Holland back in April. And one of the things that she said was that didn't make economic sense to bring back one day to time for a fourth season part of what how networks does make its decisions is. They look at how much they're spending on a show and how many new subscribers. It's bringing, which of course, we don't really know either way. I mean that's looks reports. It's quarterly subscriber gains and losses. But you have no idea, how much of that is tributed to their decision to renew, or cancel the new show. But with their with the billions of dollars that they're spending on original programming every year. It's the, the decisions that they're forced to make our will fourth season of show like a of a show. One day time bring in new subscribers. Or would we best be us using the millions that we're spending on that show to do a new show that could bring in more, one company did feel the economics made sense, and that is pop TV so who is pop TV? And why did a show like this make as much sense to them as it didn't make to Netflix? Well, we should before we even talk about pop TV we should give credit to the producers of one day to time. And that's Sony Pictures television. The independent. Studio and they were successful able to save this show. This was their business dealing, and this is look this is ground. This is TV history. This is the first time that you're seeing a scripted original show that was picked up and aired originally on a streaming platform, moved to a linear network like pop TV pop TV originally known as the TV guide network. It used to be co owned by Lionsgate television and CBS about a year ago CBS wanna buying full control. So this is a niche, basic cable network, that is owned by CBS, and, you know, look, CBS, digital platform all access what really express a lot of interest in picking up one day at time, but because of the original clauses in Netflix contract it prohibited. Any other streaming platform aka any Netflix competitor from picking up this show within a few years, and nobody's gonna wanna wait multiple years to pick to revive a show that winds up. Being expensive. You have to re promote it people have lost interest. You know you you strike, while the iron is hot. And that's exactly what pop TV did as for why they picked it up. I spoke with pop TV president Brad Schwartz yesterday on Thursday, and one of the things that he mentioned is, this is a very, very small network. They have only a handful of originals shows what be it scripted and unscripted. That's largely network that is home to repeats of some big pop culture, syndicated shows, like Buffy the vampire slayer Dawson's creek the original Beverly Hills nine oh, two one. Oh, charmed. And the reason this was interesting to them is first and foremost. Everyone CBS from Brad Schwartz to the executives like Joe Iannello and David Nevins over at CBS creatively. Loved the show, and it made sense for pop because this isn't network that as I mentioned is very big on the stall. And they looked. They're sweet spot. Viewers are people who love stuff from the eighties nineties, look, no further than what their syndication, their syndicated content is ROY. Right. That's the sweet spot Dawson's creek. You don't get much more nineties, and that Buffy the same thing. And the fact that, that this what they picked up is actually a reboot of show, that, that many of its viewers already have an awareness of because of the original from forty years prior it really hit the sweet spot, so creatively. It's an IP. It's, it's intellectual property that it's audience already knows said that. It's, it's unprecedented for a show to go from a streaming service to a cable network. Does that mean it was legally difficult to unwind the deal at flex and get it on this new platform? So in terms of setting, you know, the legal precedent. This really was a business it move. So because Sony owns the rights to the show it become becomes there to figure out what they wanna do it. However, I will say that Netflix does own because they paid for and have a contract to keep those first three seasons. Netflix will remain the exclusive home streaming home to the first three seasons of one day at a time. But in the new deal Sony gets a whole lot of rights back from Netflix. Because of their pass on season four. So that means that Sony will now be able to sell the show internationally which it never did with Netflix because Netflix is in many international markets and Sony. Also in a couple of years we'll have a streaming library starting with season four. And if the show goes five six seven through ten like producer, Mike, Royce told me he wants it to they're going to have a streaming library to sell. So, you know, in APR twister fate one thing that could happen later down the line is Sony could say, hey, we've got you know, seven more seasons of this show net. Flicks, do you want buy the library to go with the first three? And even if the one day at a time fan base didn't have a lot to do with coming back on pop TV are they at least happy now that it is coming back overjoyed? I mean, it's, it's like Christmas in June. This is this is a deal. It's never been like I said, it's never been done. A streaming show has never moved off of that to find another home. Usually, it's the other way around where Netflix has been heralded as, as the save our. Show champion because they've revived so many other shows in recent memory. I mean designated survivor was canceled at ABC and moved to net flix, FOX cancel Lucifer, and Netflix picked it up. I mean, there's so many shows that Netflix has done that with. And now this is the very first time. Netflix said, nah, no will pass and left it to the studio to find a new home for it

So yes, hi listeners, I'm going to be stealing John to be obscured ING with John's dog at the end of this and are saying gas. Well, if you go rhino, it'll say, Canadian writer, which is true. Ryan was a guest on episode, one hundred five, and we talked about writing for Hollywood without living here. But for the last few months, he has been living here working as a consulting producer on in the dark. A CW show about an irreverent blind woman who investigates her friend's murder after the police dismiss her story. He's also adapted the novel peace of mind into a feature for paramount with daisy Ridley attached to star and j.j Abrams producing Ryan night and welcome back. It's nice to be back and I'm hoping to take your dog with me to all right. It's a fight. Yeah, but the blind guy advantage of a Lambert to work Lambley terrible. I've known for one time. I've never asked you the question that you've never. I've never had support animal. You've never had never had a service dog and why not? Well, a couple reasons. One is I have a brench bulldog, and I think she would be very jealous people actually do. Well, people sometimes stop us when I have the dog and they're like that you're seeing eye dog as it wraps itself around. So. But I don't have one because I just sit so much and I just feel like having a large dog that needs to be worked all the time is is just cruel to make it sit at my feet while I rewrite things that it's not interested in. Interesting. Like you don't think the dog pitch checks for you if it did, I might get one. Before we get in topic, we have a little bit of news. So in front of Allison is a copy of the new scripts t shirt. Oh, and so Ryan can't see it's described as t shirt for our listeners. Right? It's very cool. It's a black t. with stacked colored. I'm assuming like revision script pages, although I'm going to point out, everyone gives notes in this town. Provision aren't accurate. I've in Berkeley. Tell me how you think they're not accurate because I thought we actually got them just right. So tummy out, doesn't it go from white to blue to pink? Yeah. Is it white pink blue and that one? This looks magenta to me. All really, Terry issues is not that they're in the wrong order. Is that a slightly the wrong shade? I just say, I don't know what magenta you're wearing a black and almost magenta checkered shirt. There's read this spectrum of red magenta is closer to the pink end of the spectrum. So John need to do a rewrite on between. But this description, it's called revisions. And so that's a hind the shirt and very clever. Your audience. Just listen to a person describe color to me for the first time I now have magenta in my head. I haven't. That's that's kind of cool thousand. Just gave me magenta. How. That happened right here. So if you're interested in this shirt, we also have two other t-shirts back from the vault. You can find cotton bureau also building in the show notes. So usually when t shirts, go up there only for a short period of time. I think these are going to be a recurring, but you should order them now so you can have in time for the Austin film festival. I would like to see a lot of color vision shirts out there in the audience. Well, at the Austin film festival, the other shirts got up. There are a new Highland to shirt and caretaking shirt, which was something we did when we did the caretaker game years and years ago, and it's cool and eight bitty pixel. So check those out AL's McDonnell. Thank you for describing the teacher and we'll make sure the colors are just right for you. I'm sure it's Craig's. Apparently if they don't sell all the t shirts, Craig, whereas all the other ones leftover all at once, doesn't he?.

"Yes oh i haven't seen it yet i haven't seen it said it's great that she's in something like that but i foresee if i could buy stock in an actor's career i would by i would by a lot of stock and daisy ridley anything else that you guys when talking about before we wrap this up i have one thing i'll say ties in with the same scene your syracuse his observation that the lightsaber kylo ren lightsaber spins before and that gives him the idea to spin the other lightsaber hold early hitchcock qian film make right where he led to the audience he he there's no he doesn't try to surprise the audience with that lightsaber going through snow he's like oh you know we get like a full thirtyseconds of knowing that that's his plan and we get to worry about whether smoke is going to notice it and foil it that is cinematic suspects and right truly the only hitch each cocking thing is to if you put a bomb under a seat in movie theater on the suspense to the audience the ball sure the audience like shovelled people watching the movie the bomb but you don't showed the people filing in the bomber now you know something that they don't know and you are horrified about it this works the opposite way in the you know something did snuck doesn't now and it works mazen well the other hitchcock in element to smoke in that same scene is the i would analogize it to janet lee end psycho were janet lee was his huge movie star and her name was above the title in psycho and she gets killed twenty minutes into the movie which is unheard of before or since really a you could count on one hand how many times the biggest name and they are an executive decision.
