First Berlin Production Equipment, New Largest Supercharger Location, Daimler Emissions
"Our here, and today we have a super charger network update, which is nice. Little throwback for those of you that have listened to the podcast for a long time I used to do those every day at the start of the podcast. We also have some news on Berlin paint a small little updates slash rumor. I would call it on Battery Day and the news on Daimler Nikola Motor as. Well. Tesla stock with another really strong day to day even though it was relatively quiet news wise finishing up seven point two percent to four hundred and forty nine dollars seventy six sense that compared to the Nasdaq up one point two percent we'll start off with these super charger news. This is coming from Brian Mac se on twitter, who is a long-time listener and I believe Patriot supporter of. The podcast who happen to come across a super charger network location under construction near Firebaugh California. As far as I can tell, this location had not yet been noticed. So upon Brian tweeting these out Tesla Motors Club Forum members did some digging on this and they were actually able to find that the permit for the site as well as planning documents for sort of a conglomerate travel center at. This location those documents disclosed that Tessa. We'll have fifty six spots for Tesla charging at this travel center. Assuming each of those spaces has a super charger associated with it. fifty-six chargers would put this as the largest superchargers location in North America and possibly in the world surpassing cattleman city in the United States at forty chargers and believe in China, there are a couple locations that have fifty chargers. So. Pretty exciting this location is between San Francisco and La driven miles. It's about two hundred and thirty miles from La and about one hundred and fifty from San Francisco. It's not clear if these will be all version three superchargers but I'd have to imagine that they would be and as far as other features go. It looks like about two thirds of them thirty eight of the fifty six. will be pull through hopefully accommodating the use of a trailer and making things a bit easier for the cyber truck and potentially also accommodating the semi of course, cincy unveil of the semi. We haven't heard much more about Tesla's mega charger plans. So hopefully, we get a bit of an update on that during battery debt. Right next today is an update on Gigabytes Lynn gigafactory underscore four on twitter. Has Been following. The gigafactory development closely looks like some equipment has started to arrive, and some of that equipment carries branding for Geico Tikey Shah? which is a paintshop solutions provider based in Milan Italy. There's also some signing there that is co branded between that company and desolate GEICO take show describes their approach by saying quote innovation is our weapon of choice were constantly increasing the technological possibilities in. Order to meet the needs of the most demanding customers in a highly competitive sector and quote they also seem to be heavily focused on sustainability and they're their paintshop operations. They have a project called the party's project, and they say quote with the Party's project launched in two thousand, five Geico Kotecki show was the world's first company to offer zero environmental impact paintshop reducing consumption by seventy percent and. So. Without really knowing much more about the company does he pretty good fit for Tesla we know Tesla has pretty big aspirations with the shop and gigabyte Lin Yuan talked about it many times and even setting Matt aside, it's good to start to see some production equipment on the grounds of Giga Berlian and though I haven't seen it yet. Maybe this gives us another milestone to compare the progress with Giga Shanghai from what I can. Tell, it looks like paintshop equipment started being put in place at Giga. Shanghai. In early to mid August of two thousand, nineteen with production of course, then starting about four months later. So if that's the case, if Berlin falls a similar time line that could potentially project out to start production and January probably best to keep expectations for later than that but I do think it's helpful to keep an eye on how those timelines compare all Right next up today is something that could end up being completely nothing but I thought it was at least interesting enough to share earlier today Fred Lammert over at electric tweeted out a couple of images of him holding a pretty significantly sized battery cell and Fred Ask if anyone has seen this battery cell before or you have some information about them, please reach out to him. A says also by the way, this new cell May. Or may not have been made by Tesla I don't really have much speculation to add this. A couple of people on twitter were saying that it does look like a tablets design which we've talked about and past episodes. But really just pointing out to say could be something to keep an eye out for the next couple of days if electric is able to you dig up a little bit more information on whatever this ends up being. Last couple of pieces of news here. Today I on Daimler Daimler has reached a settlement with the US government to pay one and a half billion dollars and settlements and penalties to the US and California State to resolve allegations of Daimler using emissions test cheating software to conceal the actual emissions from vehicles even with the settlement, and despite the fact that engineers at the EPA found software designed to cheat the emissions tests. Damore denies wrongdoing saying quote as stated in the consent degrees the. Class Action Settlement the company denies the authorities allegations as well as the class action plaintiffs claims and does not admit any liability to the United States. California plaintiffs or otherwise and quote. So I don't know kind of disappointing to see a settlement of that nature that doesn't require the admission of fault with such seemingly strong evidence against Daimler right lasting today is a quick update on Nikola Motors. It sounds like from the comments yesterday that most of you preferred that I don't do significantly. Deep dive on this budget stick to the high level updates, which I'm totally fine with if Trevor Milton wanted to come back on the PODCAST, I would probably do that. Otherwise, we'll stick with these updates anyway today the Wall Street Journal and other outlets are reporting that the Justice Department has started to also investigate Nikola Motors due to the allegations that they had misled investors by making exaggerated claims about their technology I know that sounds similar to

"All right so there's been a digital shift in schools in the past few years many schools even launch soon and I pass in the textbooks so what's the answer to kids learn the best way digitally or with a book well science says that there was no real difference in results for just over fifty percent of students but a third performed better after taking a test on paper more than a thousand ten year old kids took to comprehensive tests went on screen and the other one is in Plano paper so the take away is that a child's reading ability is worse when using a screen versus a Booker tale and this is in spite of children growing up accustomed to all the screens all right back to the phones we go and let's see we have Jeff in Missouri hi there Jeff all right eleven Daimler talked to the I have and I have a couple questions the one actually I wanted to start up a pot cash or you know all of us at the call of duty okay as maybe but I'm not sure how to do that and so what's your bright idea how do you how are you going to change up the world Jeff well I want to capture what's happening to America on a like a daily basis but I wanted to put some humor into it that I don't want to be so serious that you can't laugh I I get ya I'm you know little people I like to smile and laugh every day if I can nine and then there's another day that I have yeah dot com I don't know what type of you know the quickness of Bonnie when I needed you know how the patent of the bin the show's name or the email address for the deal arguing about currency so we're starting from the very beginning okay yeah I'm on so let's let's talk numbers okay right now there are I don't know I think the last time I heard there is one there are one point two million podcasts okay and there's about two hundred of them that actually are making money I mean two hundred thousand so two thousand and one point two million and that's because people see people start a podcast Jeff and then they burn out because this is something it's a commitment you have to do this every week trust me there are some ways I don't want to do one but you have to do it these people getting used to it okay and so yes so you start formulating your idea podcast length should be anywhere between twenty minutes and forty minutes after that people die down okay is they don't have the attention span and so you start looking at the equipment and are certain things that you need I mean obviously you need a you know a decent computer decent microphone maybe a pop filter in a win win screen headphones an amplifier Mike stands you know cameras and things like that R. and then you put your podcast out there he's a service like lips and that's who we use and they put your podcast on every platform aren't so automatically you'll be on apple and Google music and Spotify and Pandora and list goes on and on right stitcher okay so now you have to start building up your audience if you build it they don't come okay it takes a lot of work it takes a lot of marketing and then after you get a you need to have a like like saying are you a good numbers like a million downloads a month then you can start making some serious money and how you make money is on a cost per thousand so it could be anywhere between five dollars to twenty five dollars for every thousand listens you're gonna make five to twenty five dollars for every commercial okay so what I just gave you is like podcasting in sixty seconds or less okay so so now it's like okay how do I start okay you can start by getting an audience and start developing an audience just because you have podcast is when they're going to find you so you need to start having an audience first okay and so maybe what it is that you start a Facebook group and with that Facebook group you say okay here's sixty seconds of what's going on in America right now and I will make you smile at the end just what you said to me I think it's fabulous you can also do that on you too and you can get started for free and the beautiful thing about YouTube is that it doesn't cost you anything right I and you don't need to have a whiz bang set up at least look decent of course but it doesn't need to be broadcast ready and so you start developing a following and with a website with a blog and on Twitter and on Facebook and Pinterest wherever you can put your social media flag because like what I don't want you to do and trust me because I I've seen too many people do this is they go all into podcasting and then once they get into podcasting they realize that it's a lot harder than they thought and then they fail I don't want you to fail once you start small which you start with a simple YouTube channel work out the Kinks start getting followers and we've got some tips on the website to get you started on that take a look at any of any questions after that I'm totally here for you I want you to be successful job and I'm going to help you get there and thank you so much for your call all right if you're working from home you don't need or want everyone listening in on your phone calls are no what you watch your being disturbed by.

Prosecutors Charge VW Leaders with Stock Market Manipulation
"Uh-huh. Prom wondering I'm David Brown and this is business wars daily. It's another Monday friends how you doing well hopefully better than the CEO and chairman of Volkswagen German prosecutors have charged chief executive officer Ds and Chairman hans-peter Putsch wjr with attempting to manipulate the stock market prosecutors say that in two thousand fifteen these two executives as well as former w CEO Martin winterkorn hid from shareholders the knowledge that the US was investigating the company for cheating on diesel emissions in so doing the three. VW leaders falsely propped up the company's share price according according to prosecutors they've also indicted former CEO winterkorn. If you're hazy on the details let me remind you where all this started back in September number of two thousand fifteen the US Environmental Protection Agency announced it had been investigating Volkswagen for installing software that made the vehicles falsely pass emissions tests tests on the road there diesel emissions were far higher than regulators allowed the cheating affected. Some eleven million vehicles and their drivers consumer boomer had believed. VW's claims that their cars were environmentally friendly. German prosecutors say the three charged executives knew of the US investigation months months before the EPA September Twenty fifteen announcement. They say that the VW leaders should have disclosed the US investigation to shareholders in the spring under the German law. It's a crime not disclose major financial risks to shareholders. BWI share price plummeted forty percent when the news broke today the scandal has cost the company more than thirty billion dollars in penalties CNN reports Volkswagen also owns Audi Bentley Bugatti Lamborghini and Porsche Porsche. Some Audi and Porsche models were among those rigged with the emissions cheating software. Volkswagen has been attempting to overhaul it sullied image and transform itself itself into a clean climate-friendly car company. It's been developing a new fleet of all electric vehicles under the model name ide- Three in Europe along with the forthcoming idea eighty four in America the VW's are intended to be sold at moderate prices to middle income drivers but these new changes make it harder for the automaker to put the scandal. Oh behind it. Furthermore shareholders have sued for damages of more than ten billion dollars. Volkswagen and its executives say the charges have no merit and both the the CEO and the chairman will keep their jobs according to the New York Times this means VW leaders will be defending themselves against criminal charges at a crucial time time just as the company is trying to transform itself if convicted all three men could face prison time former CEO. Martin winterkorn is already facing fraud odd charges stemming from the emissions cheating itself. It wouldn't be hard to imagine that the scandal would be a boon to rival German automakers however Diamond Daimler Benz maker of the Mercedes Benz is also under a diesel tainted cloud last week. It agreed to pay a fine of close to a billion dollars for selling over polluting putting diesel cars German authorities found the digne-les-bains had installed emissions cheating software similar to that used by Volkswagen into about two hundred eighty thousand Mercedes Benz ends vehicles the US Department of Justice continues to investigate the full extent of daimler-benz deception in the US Fiat. "All electric, we're gonna talk about this electric thing. So let's take a break. I am Jerry Kyle. And we are talking cars. Welcome back. I'm Jerry Kyle. And we are talking cars will this goes out the Nate. He dropped me off. This very interesting article on on VW is going electric ends going to convert all of its German factories over by two thousand twenty two. You're not doing the math on that. That's like three years away. Now, that's just not very far away. VW? Ceo Herbert announced the Volkswagen group's new five year plan on Friday and includes forty four billion dollar budget for the introduction of new technologies. Forty four billion. I mean, think of that right. The shoot for the introduction of new technologies for self driving cars and electric mobility. I forgot about that self hard. We're talking about this in between the breaker throws a wrench though. Yeah. In a partnership with Ford is also being put forward for this purpose by two thousand twenty two all German plants will be converted for the construction of electric vehicles. Wow. By two thousand twenty two while while Toyota in this their words, by the way, while Toyota and GM are growing and Uber and tesla mixing up the market, the German, car, manufacturer, Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen are currently suffering. The diesel vehicle which they go on to say, you know, affected VW, obviously. Big sorta way. So the the definitely need to scramble that the whole diesel the bottle what they had just really really shot him badly. And it goes on to say after the corresponding meeting last Friday, the group announced it intends to invest a total of another hundred and forty eight billion dollars over the next five years at fifty billion around one third of the budget is being spent on new technologies, including autonomous driving an electric Bill -bility. Wow. That's crazy. Well, you know, and I don't think the numbers that different for all of them. They're all kinds. Making these predictions that are pretty pretty close to happening. You know, I think everyone's saying like twenty one twenty two. You know, and everything and that's like to me, I'm thinking, they're they're speaking before they're ready. Isn't it though? It just seems like it's really fast to pull together. And we all know, they're always working in the background. They're always kind of figuring things out way ahead of time. Your dad was certainly part of a low. Yeah. Yeah. You know, they were. And then like, I said, you know, seven to ten years ahead. And and probably you know, who knows maybe more than that today. But I just I'm really kind of surprised that they're pushing this hard as they are makes you wonder what's going on in the world out here because they they really seem to want to make this electric thing happen. And and the thing that the other thing that's surprising me is there still, and I guess that's just the way it is. But you know, over the years they've tried so many different things. Now, I remember back when they were trying the solar cars and stuff like that. And it seems like all that went to the wayside. And I'm surprised they aren't investing more in that. And I'm wondering is it a fact that they've done everything they can. And it's just they decided they're beating their head against a wall. There point that sounded like a great plan, the other solar panels over the whole top of the car and rice still made them look fashionable. I mean, some of the. I think some of the stuff is going into the electric cars. I did see one the other day, which was a little article on our solar panels being put on electric car to help charge it and the solar panels were capable of turning colors. So you could change the color your vehicle because of the solar panels on them. That just seemed to really make sense when they said that I'm thinking. Wow. What a great idea. You're driving down the road. Yeah. Getting hit by all that sun and turn it in the electricity. Yeah. The only difference. I'll say on the seven like you say seventy years out is what they project out. They don't have some of the important piece of the puzzle. That's it figured out like batteries for. Really, you know, they got all these little pieces, but the big pieces missing. That's at battery to just hold hold on long charges quickly. I mean, we just did what a few weeks ago, we talked about that that they've they figured out some tricks on that they can get them to charge quick. Yeah. Maybe that's in the background. We don't realize it. But they could be further ahead than we think. But it just they really haven't snuck anything out. There hasn't been anything shown about how this is going to happen. But boy, they they're acting like it's going to happen for her. It is this article goes on to say the plan includes Amman among other things VW plants and Germany will make fit for vehicles production of three hundred and thirty three thousand units per year will start in two thousand nineteen. Next next. This model year next year in two thousand twenty one six models of its three of the twelve Volkswagen. Brands will be produced at the same location by two thousand twenty two. They should be able to build all electric cars and be electric exclusive. We expect a total of thirty new models by two thousand twenty meanwhile fell in twenty. That's kind of a youth. Next year's release. I would think you know. And I'm thinking, it's Volkswagen and you were talking about it the old Ford and dime. Reus mentioned in there, and everything and all this stuff, and you start putting things together and saying, okay, this well, and that all being said, it's got my gears going big time cop. But the other thing is clear of the, you know, supposedly released the last of the Beatles. And I am thinking that there is going to be a huge thing with the first electric beetle. And I'm willing to bet that's their first electric car when that'd be brilliant. That's the that's sixties car that. And they re released it. It would just it would just play that beautiful always kind of been just the Volkswagen popular standard. And I can see them saying, you know, what? And they did they made a big campaign about it. It's never going to be out again. And I'm thinking there's something going on there. Due to overwhelming pressure. We brought back the electric body. Yes. You don't think about that? Yup. They'll just to be clear. It says existing models such as the Volkswagen Passat wall. So be produced. But not in Germany. It's going to be over the Czech Republic. In a number of the jobs in Germany is also declining. According to the this electric cars, that's another thing that this article brings up did you don't realize electric cars are easier to build the might that be cheaper to build. But they're easier to build just the you know the way there. Zayn easier to build so you kind of lose some jobs, and they're talking about losing jobs, of course, GM's in a pickle right out here in the states on on losing jobs, potentially on not potentially probably with closing down some plants. I mean, they're kind of doing the same thing. Type of long long-term plan. What this article does go on to say that more suppliers partners are also the brighter future Volvo so their their support to build. But you gotta get all these different suppliers want to get those battery plants are going to become the thing. So that that'd be fun. If they could turn the Lordstown plant until like a battery production area, I'm just wondering in. I know there's probably not because they're not around yet. There's not a lotta specs on it and everything, but they're they're working on these things, and the elimination of these really big engines that were always a huge part of things they're going to be replaced with a computer, basically and everything else. So I'm wondering how much lighter they're going to be and how much you know. Like right now, what your car ball three three thousand pounds or something? And you know, these new ones might only be like seven hundred pounds or something, you know. You take engine transmission out of that. Then. Yeah. Thought to an adult, and of course, that's the whole trick on the electric to. That's it is that you know, they they might have batteries right now that could handle that you know, because you're taking so much weight out of it. Then you these guys are smart. So obviously, they gotta play on just saying what that will do this in two thousand twenty two seems like Trump. It's just amazing. So and and the thing is, and here's what I talked with you real briefly. But we didn't have a lot of time before but electric cars. I mean, there's some electric cars out right now. And they're hard sells the people and for them to say, you know, what we're committing to this. Their customer base is and Bill yet people are not sold on electric cars yet. There's a there's a slice of the pie for that group to put up go all in like, this is just yeah. It's done. I think there's a learning curve in there that they forgot to include. Be very very interesting to see Elena's all shakes out so while okay. I'll tell you what let's take a break. Big John had a big a good question last week in review mirror on the passenger side says objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are Meatloaf.

See some of those premium or, super premium brands being produced No plan but it's also asked we are growing in the market. Out is hugely successful there will be let's say a step in time And. Really just makes, us to, produce also causing American You'll have a speaking with Bloomberg's Matt Matt up so how? Will the trade war impact. The auto industry going forward let's bring. Our Bloomberg Europe also editor Elizabeth Berman into the conversation she's in Munich Elizabeth to see you what's at stake for VW and the other big European players Yeah I mean this was. Addressing in his interviews well trade. Is one of the issues that really front and center of his mind for invitation we use case specifically it's the EU. US trade spat that's really overhanging things for them talks there seem to have gone in the right direction ever since EU commission president YMCA went to see from I think. It was late in July and, and some of the tensions seems to have gone away with. More talks planned like the interview was also hitting on VW doesn't produce any any. Audis in the US and they export them from. The EU so that there's a huge exp exposure there and for? The other car makers the. Landscapes a bit different is especially for. BMW and Daimler and they also export a lot of SUV's from the from the US to China And. They're. The impact, is actually real because China has. Imposed, retaliatory tariffs on exports of US made cars so BMW and Daimler SUV's are. Having to, contend with an import, tariff that's gone up, by twenty. Five percent forty percent and that's. Already had an impact for them they've had to raise prices and there's also a third level to make just. A bit more complicated and especially BMW and Dana they're facing terrorist whiplash if I can call it that because at the. Same time China's decided to lower car import tariffs for everybody except for the US and that really played a big role during the second quarter for the likes of a. BMW because consumers in China they, decided well there's this there are these lower tariffs coming I'm. Just going to wait and see if I can get my dilatot greater lower price And of course BMW spent one billion dollars expanding that plant in the United States of America, just as, those, tariffs came to. Bur what would you be. In terms of the challenges facing this sector tariffs we've discussed what else is a headwind Well there's a, huge range of internal and external pressures that all seemed to be combining at a really tough time for, car makers so if the tariffs that's completely outside, of the control, for these manufacturers at the. Same time we've, been talking about. The longtime there's this huge transformation going on for the car sector, that's really pushing all of these manufacturers to expand takes, Ben to make record expenditures on new technologies new mobility services and all of those things the self-driving cars there's. No real there's no real sense of how much consumers actually want these things but having to. Make these adjustments because of emissions regulation, and the general trend toward the technology where lots of new competitors also vying for a piece of the pie Well. Let's just talk, about that because. I want to get a quick snapshot foot Taza what does the, future hold because you got poor she got everybody stopping, at their he's in terms of potential causes coming on board next year what's the future very briefly for Taza Lots more competition because they've. Been raining the sector in? Luxury electric cars pretty. Much by themselves and they've now. Got the pace from Jaguar next thing you've got Porsche people. Are waiting for? Those causes as well Elisabeth thank you so much, out of course we are waiting to see whether tesla does manage to jump the Rubicon whether must takes a private again are Europe all those additive thank you very much for joining us for. "But in fact heat more like game willard m but what i meant by that is that the typically he's a really great score he doesn't play a lotta defense uh and it's been hard for daimler to get back to the place where he was when he had the markets aldridge nick the two and you know the the idea that that it's an insult to say that you're not kobe bryant your daimler soulard it's it's ludicrous mucus daimler than allstar he's a great player um in game didn't like me comparing his career being to to hint so here's the thing like speech is what you were exactly and so on a tweet he goes check my track record uh over five hundred and playoff every year but here's the thing if you look at fanning last year was portland's records forty one yes that our five hundred no now and when he was a rookie were the over five no now he was he was thirty three in wherever forty a youth out of the playoffs to like the idea that he's gonna come back at me with check my track record been over five hundred every year even last year he wasn't over five hundred so i get it he's trying to defend himself and that's right it's fine um but the idea that he i'm insulting carrier me and daimler in the same sentence by comparing by saying they're not kobe bryant where do you have shown in rats.
