"Who are the people I need to meet? What are the different roles and functions and teams are involved here? And how do I interact with them? I started to look at the knowledge base and I made my own glossary because I had a lot of questions. On tumblr, there was a lot of advertising and quite a bit of content moderation as a social platform that I wasn't familiar with. And so I went into it with a lot of learning to do. So this listening phase was important to start tracking all that. Not getting the answers, but starting to attract the questions. On the team side, we have this wonderful case of many people living in New York City. That's where the tumblr office used to be before automatic made the acquisition. About 6 or 8 months before I joined. And so I would have this visual up on my computer when I was having Zoom calls with my teammates to say, where do you live? And many people lived in Brooklyn. And so I'd say, oh, prospect heights, or dumbo, or Williamsburg. Help put them on the map, help me orient to this team. In a similar way, I started to say who are the people I work with the most frequently. And we had a lot of engineering teams. And so I made this mural, this white board, where I had these boxes for each team. I knew the team name, but I didn't know that people. So as I met people, I started to put their face. I would take their avatar, their image and I'd put it into this diagram. This basically like an ork chart. But I was building it myself, so I would have to learn each person. In the same way, I started using spreadsheets. And in this case, it's an example of functions and leadership roles. So I can start to see, what's the person's name? What's their title or department? And how does that map to my understanding? Because sometimes the jargon was different. So I was able to put this into a structured format that I could reference every day or every time I was going to jump into a new conversation to know. What do they do again? And be informed and ready for that conversation. As I shifted to the second round of conversations, I stayed open and started to reference those maps in those notes. And I started to develop a habit of daily review. So I'd start my day with bookmarks and my browser that had the KPI dashboards or the product tracker or the latest update from the teams. Just to see an orient. And maybe start that day with a fresh intention of what did I need to pay attention to today? That was one of the habits I developed right away was how do I make sure that I get everything out of my head and into these mappings. So I didn't have to memorize it, but I knew how to reference it. This episode is brought to you by thought spot..

"Welcome to the daily brief. The world oil podcast network daily review of Market News, emerging trends, new technologies and the people who are advancing the oil and gas industry. Here's Cameron. Wallace with your top news stories of the day. Hello and welcome to the world oil. Daily, brief podcast I'm Cameron Wallace and today is Sunday June seventh. Yesterday the OPEC Plus Alliance ratified its agreement to extend oil production cuts through the end of July. That agreement has a lot of moving parts and relies on strict compliance countries that don't have a very good track record of hearing quotas. The deal also represents a new more sophisticated approach by the cartel to proactively control oil prices, and not to spoil the surprise, but they may have finally hit upon way to keep us shale producers in check as part of it. Regardless Saturday's activity will have an outsized impact on the oil and gas industry this week. Before we get started with that. Take a quick look at the week. That was. Baker Hughes updated its drilling rig count. Friday and we continue to see those numbers reflect capex budget cuts and weaken global demand. The US Land Rig. Count stood at two hundred eighty four rigs on Friday down seventeen rigs for the week and down six hundred ninety one rigs compared to this day one year ago. Meanwhile, Canada has added one rig, bringing their total to twenty one and the international rig count fell by one hundred and ten rigs to eight hundred five. Amid falling rid counts, oil prices log their six week of price gains..

We've been talking a lot this week about production so today we'll take a look at what's happening with oil demand and the resulting need for storage options for all this extra crude. Today's episode of the daily brief is brought to you in part by Siemens with a global population expected to rise nearly thirty percent by twenty fifty. The world is evolving rapidly and so are the challenges harmful emissions chief among them therefore the solution must evolve rapidly if we are to meet society's ever-growing demand for clean energy Siemens partners with oil and gas customers to navigate the normal delivering what matters most safety efficiency reliability sustainability and ultimately peace of mind. Pso's and let secure a sustainable energy future together. Global oil demand has fallen as much as twenty percent from last year as more countries lockdown billions of people inside their houses in a bid to halt the spread of the Corona Virus Russell. Harty the head of vital group said the consumption of crude has dropped by between fifteen million and twenty million barrels. A day from the normal level of one hundred million barrels a day he believes the loss will continue at that level for at least a more weeks contributing to an average annual decline of at least five million barrels a day which is by far the largest global market has suffered since reliable data is available from the early nineteen sixties. There's a lot of oil in the market and there's a lot of stocks that we're going to have to build because it's not going to be consumed he said highlighting the national lockdown announced on Tuesday in India that has contributed to a fresh substantial loss of demand. The oil trader estimates. Gasoline demand is down fifty percent in Europe and thirty five percent in the US while diesel is less affected. Jet Fuel. Consumption has virtually gone with six million barrels. A day lost out of a normal level of seven point three million barrels a day around the world. Refiners have already reduced the amount of crude they process by seven million barrels a day vital estimates and they will cut a further seven million throughout this week. That'll push the problem from the refined products into the crude market. Everyone is then going to try to figure out what happens with crude. Unfortunately using the United States Strategic Petroleum Reserve to take as many as seventy seven million barrels off the market is out of the question at least for now. The trump administration halted plans to start buying oil to top up the nation's emergency stockpile after failing to win funding from Congress throwing a wrench of his most tangible efforts to help struggling drillers cope with the price wrote. The Energy Department said a notice dated Wednesday that it was withdrawing a march nineteenth tender for the first part of its plan to purchase seventy seven million barrels for the reserve. The American energy sector is a major driver of our nation's economy at is being significantly harmed by the impacts of Cova Nineteen and international market manipulation. Shalon hines a department. Spokeswoman said an email small to medium size American energy companies and their employees should be provided the same relief being provided other parts of the economy. And the Secretary Calls On. Some have suggested that the Energy Department might come up with the money in its own budget to fund the purchase for the Government's petroleum reserve congressional appropriators routinely. Sign off on internal budget. Transfers requested by the federal agencies should funding become secure for the plan purchases the deal. We will reissue solicitation. Today's oil prices are reflecting the removal of the S P R option. As of noon today Brent crude was down eighty four cents to twenty sixty five a barrel and West Texas intermediate is down one dollar and thirty five cents to twenty three fourteen not counting the Strategic Petroleum Reserve global storage capacity is filling up quickly with key producers only days away from having zero available storage space looking at the market holistically. The world will run OUT OF PLACES TO STORE OIL IN AS LITTLE AS THREE MONTHS. According to an industry consultant. Ihs MARKET SAID. The current rates of supply and demand. Mean inventories will increase by one point. Eight billion barrels over the first half of twenty twenty with only an estimated one point. Six billion barrels of storage capacity still available producers will be forced to cut output because by June. There'll be no place left to put. All the unwanted crude. The oil market has been hammered falling demand as a result of the corona virus outbreak and a Saudi Arabia vows to flood the market with crude at deep discounts following the collapse of the coalition of OPEC producing countries and allies including Russia on Thursday Pakistan. Banned imports of crude and fuels because it storage sites are full. Supply may exceed demand by twelve point four million barrels a day in the second quarter with other traders banks and consultants also forecasting bumper surpluses vital said on Wednesday. The demand has fallen as much as twenty million barrels. A day from last year production is going to have to be reduced or even shut in said Jim Burkhard head of oil markets that IHS it is now a matter of where and by how much they're already signs in prices about a potential scarcity of storage space in the US the so-called WTI cash role traded down at the lowest level since December two thousand eight on expectations that inventories of the delivery point for US futures would balloon in coming weeks and months. Meanwhile Brent futures are trading deepening tangle structure or spot. Prices are discounts to those in later months as a market trust to create the necessary financial incentives to store by pressuring near-term prices measures of the physical market for actual barrels of crude are also pointing to weakness globally of the world's three largest oil producers. Russia has the least amount of available storage capacity at about eight days according to IHS. Those figures are based on the amount of production that could be stored if exports dried up. Saudi Arabia has eighteen days and the US has about thirty Nigeria. The biggest producer in Africa is the most vulnerable among the areas measured by IHS estimated first. Quarter Twenty Twenty daily production of one point nine million barrels a day would fill up available local storage in one and a half to two days as an example of how serious this is getting in the United States. The glut of oil is growing so fast that at least one pipeline owner concerned widely traders may try to stowaway crude on its pipeline network until prices improve plains all American pipeline is requiring customers to prove they have a buyer or place to offload grew. They're shipping companies pipes. According to people familiar with the matter the idea is to prevent anyone from using planes network to park oil in lieu of higher prices. With the key storage hub in cushing. Oklahoma already more than half full concern is rising among investors and oil producers that the sure fit of American crude may overwhelm storage capacity and force companies to shut down wells shale. Explorers are dialing back drilling. But it won't have a meaningful impact on overall crude supplies anytime soon. Similar anxieties are racking the fuel markets as the Cova nineteen outbreak saps demand and foreign producers swamp global markets with oil colonial pipeline company operator of the busiest. Us fuels conduit last week warned clients that any gasoline or diesel on their system that had no end user or storage vacation would be sold off to the highest bidder. So that's pretty much where we are today. The conversation is shifting from how high can daily production go to what happens when we run out of places to put all this oil. Sounds like we're pretty close to finding out and so there you have it your top oil and gas news for Thursday march. The twenty sixth on tomorrow's show we'll be joined once again by Kurt Abraham Editor in Chief of world oil magazine to share the rest of the results of a survey on government intervention in global oil gas markets. "Welcome to the daily brief the world. Oil podcast network daily review of market news emerging trends new technologies and the people who are advancing the oil and gas industry. Here's Cameron Wallace with your top news. Stories of the day afternoon and welcome to the world oil daily brief podcast. I'm Cameron Wallace. And these are your top oil and gas headlines for Tuesday march the tenth. America's days is a net. Oil Exporter may be numbered. Russia's threatening another production hike while keeping the door open for more OPEC discussions and Saudi Arabia is also doing their part to drive oil prices down by declaring another production increase of their own. I up America's nascent status as a net petroleum exporter is already risk as plunging oil. Prices threatened domestic production and give a leg up to the world's biggest producers the US only in recent months begin exporting more petroleum than it imports shift fueled by record shale production in fields such as the Permian basin now amid the worst price route nearly three decades. American drillers are facing a million barrel drop in production that could curb. Us exports and set back the company's march toward energy independence for four of the last six weeks the US has shipped out more crude and refined products. And it's brought in but that margin is relatively thin. If shale output were to fall by one million barrels a day this year that could be enough to take the US from a net exporter. Back to net importer. Us benchmark crude tumbled twenty five percent on Monday to close at thirty one. Thirteen a barrel which is well below the average break even price for producers in the three biggest. Us Shale fields major banks were quick to revise price forecast downward as Saudi Arabia and Russia. The world's largest crude exporters are poised to flood the market with discounted oil in an all-out price war. The surge of inexpensive supply could pose a secondary blow to shale producers as US refiners opt for foreign barrels over domestic. Today's episode of the daily brief is brought to you in part by Siemens with a global population expected to rise nearly thirty percent by twenty fifty. Pso's and let secure a sustainable energy future together. Russia stepped up its price war with Saudi Arabia by warning it can raise oil production while also saying further cooperation with OPEC is possible after the collapse of OPEC plus talks last week. Russia could increase output by as much as five hundred thousand barrels a day in the near future Energy Minister Alexander. Novak said on Tuesday. His statement came just minutes after. Saudi Aramco escalated the battle for market share by pledging record. Oil shipments in April the OPEC plus union forged by Russia and Saudi Arabia in two thousand sixteen to support oil prices collapsed last week when Novak refused to be strong armed by the Saudis into accepting additional output cuts of one point five million barrels a day. The failure of the talks has prompted Saudi Arabia to slash its crude prices targeting potential buyers of Russian oil in Asia Europe and the US in response oil slumped by the most in three decades on Monday despite this escalating battle for market share. Novak said Russia is open to further cooperation with Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. And its allies. I want to say the door isn't closed. Novak told the state run Rossiya twenty four news channel in his first public appearance since March sixth meeting. If needed we have various tools including reducing an increasing production and new agreements can be reached OPEC plus has meetings scheduled for mayor June when the Union may evaluate the market situation. Once again he said in the meantime Russia's oil industry is regrouping for potential output hike from April the first when the current OPEC plus deal expires. The nation's producers have the capacity to raise the output by two hundred thousand to three hundred thousand barrels. A day in the short term and by as much as five hundred thousand barrels a day in the near future oil rebounded on Tuesday. After Monday's historic crash Brent crude was trading seven point five percent higher at thirty six ninety three barrel at ten twenty six. Am in London. Russia produced a little more than eleven million barrels a day of crude oil and condensate in February according to preliminary data from the Russian energy ministry raising the level by another half million barrels would bring the nation's output to an all time high still Russia will not be able to match the production hikes plan by the Saudi kingdom within the next two months and finally today. Saudi Arabia escalated its oil price war with Russia on Tuesday with its state owned company pledging to supply a record twelve point three million barrels a day next month a massive production hike looking to flood the market. The output increase of more than twenty five percent from last month puts Aramco supply above its maximum sustainable capacity indicating that the kingdom even tapping it strategic inventories to dump as much crude as quickly as possible on the market in February. Saudi Arabia produced about nine point. Seven million barrels. A day. It's the latest maneuver in what set to be a long and bitter price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia. Moscow responded within minutes in what looked like a war of words with Alexander Novak saying Russia had the ability to boost production by five hundred thousand barrels a day. Riyadh is using strategic oil stocks to boost supplies at very short notice according to people familiar with the strategy on top of domestic stockpiles. It also stores crude near consumption hubs in Rotterdam Okinawa and the Egyptian port. Cd career. Russia does not have a network of strategic oil stocks to match Bob McNally founder of consultant rapid energy group and a former White House official said welcome to the free market. The world is about to learn very swiftly how important a swing producer is for stability not only for the global oil market but the broader economy and geopolitics for decades the oil market has been largely regulated first by Americans who set production quotas for their oil companies through the Texas Railroad Commission in the first half of the twentieth century and later by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries through that time Texas and later OPEC acted a swing producers upping output at times of scarcity and reducing it at times of lower demand to help keep prices stable with oil demand rapidly falling due to the economic impact of the corona virus epidemic. The Saudi production hike followed potentially by another one from Russia is likely to force oil companies historic route rather than processing. Traders are already seeking out tankers to help store the glut. The International Energy Agency said earlier this week. The global oil demand will contract this year for the first time since the global financial crisis in two thousand nine the US and other western countries are starting to worry about the oil price. War between two of the world's most powerful petroleum nations on Monday the US Department of Energy denounced in a rare statement attempts by state actress to manipulate and shock oil markets. Top Oil and gas headlines for Tuesday February the eleventh today. We'll take a look at corona viruses impact on Chinese gas demand in the US. Natural gas prices fall to a four year. Low and oil is holding fifty dollars a barrel as it appears that OPEC won't take any emergency action. I up the impact of the novel. Corona virus on Chinese gas demand will depend on both the severity and length of time required to contain the outbreak. Wood Mackenzie Research Director Robert. Sims estimates gas demand lost China has reached two billion cubic meters by the end of the first week in February with more than half of this loss concentrated in the Industrial Sector. Though many international airlines have suspended travel to and from China through March and April Sims expects domestic flights to resume in February with the resumption economic activity although limited wood Mackenzie estimates a full year. Gas Demand Reduction of between six and fourteen billion cubic meters at twenty twenty depending on the length of time required to contain the outbreak. You're on your growth. Rates dropped six percent and four percent respectively mostly the result of downgrades as compared to pre corona virus outlooks of eight percent of growth domestic upstream. Gas Production is affected by preventive measures to control the virus and travel restrictions have reduced manpower onsite however as baseload pipeline gas can be delivered in closed off operations. It is less affected. Wood Mackenzie is forecast domestic supply to be lower by between one point six and two point nine billion cubic meters ellen g will bear the brunt of this reduction domestic gas demand although some disruption to domestic gas supply is also expected to travel restrictions and reduced operations. Wood Mackenzie currently estimates the downside impact Chinese Ellen. G demand as between two point six million tonnes in the best case with recovery by April and six point three million tonnes in a more prolonged case with slow return to normal. The Corona virus outbreak and his impact on Chinese gas demand could have come at a worse time for the already oversupplied Global Ellen. G MARKET DISAPPOINTING. Apec demand growth contributed to the having LNG prices through two thousand nineteen and further new volumes emerging from US producers. Wood Mackenzie was already anticipating lower prices through two thousand twenty prior to the corona virus. They had expected the Pacific market to absorb nineteen million tons of the approximately twenty seven million tons of new supply. Growth in twenty twenty. This assessment was based on the view with the Pacific demand. Growth would rebound significantly from last year. However warm weather through December and January in northern Asia has already put pressure on inventory levels in China South Korea and Japan and further weakening already soft North Asian spot market with too much ellen g and nowhere left to place it. It looks like a supply correction is needed to balance the market. Would Mackenzie is expecting supply response in some markets like Egypt and potentially eastern Australia? We're the likes of shell an AP L. G. could attempt to sell gas into the domestic Queensland gas market however it is us Gulf producers who have the highest marginal cost of supply and the most flexibility. The Chinese government said would offer support for companies seeking to clear force Missouri on international contracts. The first such reported notes were sent by last week to Ellen G SUPPLIERS AND CNPC and sign a PEC could follow suit entering force. Measure is rare in LNG markets and. We'll be contractually complex contract. Wording will need to explicitly include epidemics as force majeure events demand-reduction on its own or noticed by relevant Chinese government. Authority will likely be insufficient in addition prior to being released from their obligations to receive cargo. Buyers would need to follow contract procedures proving that actions had been taken to minimize overcome the impact of the force majeure event total contracted volume into China in two thousand twenty is fifty four million tons per annum still less than the two annual demand scenarios presented Mood Mackenzie's best case and prolong case so while major Chinese buyers may call for force. Major suppliers may insist on trying to deliveries to later in the year once demand impact of Corona virus has diminished given the widespread between high contractor prices and low spot market prices expected to persist through twenty twenty. There is a strong commercial incentive for each side to resist the actions of the other. If buyers do succeed exercising force measure the revenue impact on sellers could be significant. The approximate price for many of these oil index contracts is around fourteen point five percent of oil range equivalent to eight dollars and eighty three cents per million. British thermal units this compares with spot prices of around three dollars and fifteen cents per million. "Let's get to some specific flash card tips tricks and strategies. I an important idea about flash cards. That underlies realized all these strategies that is the idea that terms represent concepts terms aren't just words they have meaning and that meaning is the concept that each word or phrase represents I think that when we recognize this we can easily see jeep passed the mistaken notion that learning terms and by extension learning math flash cards. Is Somehow rote memorization without meaning. Well okay I guess it can be rote memorization without meaning. I guess what I'm trying to get at is it doesn't have to be as long as we do. Some Meta cognition. That is as long as we do. Some thinking about our thing and take note of the deep meaning behind the representation of ideas he is on our flash cards one common strategy that I haven't really gone into March is the use of pictures on flash cards. Some some concepts lend themselves more to this than others when the pops into mind right now is histology. I want my students to be able to recognize some of the key types of tissue visually this comes early in the AARP. One course often hit students right in the face ace. It's hard. Gaining the skills needed to recognize countless different examples of the same tissue type. They all look like abstract abstract art. Anyway don't it's like a Jackson pollock painting with all these. You know. Paint drips the place at least when you're first Starting it doesn't seem to make any sense at I. You know I've been there done that as a student myself. But as you know from your own learning of histology the more you practice recognizing tissues the easier it gets until you can do it in your sleep like during those occasional regional histology nightmare. Why I can't be the only one to get the odd histology nightmare now and again? Getting back to the point recognizing tissues bones bone markings muscles nerves vessels just about any end comical structure. Something that pretty much requires a visual approach. Now one way to produce these visual flash cards if a student is making them rather than purchasing using or downloading them is to draw the visual elements. Drawing is a great way to learn while making the cards and it's likely to have more meaning as the drawings are used in daily review. Another method is to pronounce images which is found on the internet or scanned from the textbook or lab atlas then the image can be taped or pasted onto one side of a flash card so the obverse could have the name of the structure and the reverse could have the picture or the picture could be on the obverse and then the name some of the structure could be on the reverse as a matter of fact the same card can be used both way. Obviously but it's how you approach the card which one's going to be the obverse shorefront side in which is going to be the reverse our backside that considering how ubiquitous mobile devices with built in cameras have become. I've seen a a lot of students. Taking photos of lab models dissection specimens microscope views teaching charts. And even my diagrams on the white aboard and then making flash cards with them and what about Niemand X.. As you know demonic devices anything that helps you remember something so in a way flash cards by their very nature are themselves mnemonic devices usually when we think of demonic so we think of simple phrases zir sentences were each words starting letter is the same starting ladder of a member of a list of things. We're trying to remember. Like the order of the twelve classic cranial nerves so students could incorporate pneumonic phrases into their flash cards for example they could put the term the concept on the obverse and then put the pneumonic device with its meaning that is the actual list trying to learn on the reverse of the card or they could put the Monica sentence with no clarifications on the obverse and the actual list to be learned on the reverse. I'm going to circle back to another strategy in just a minute or two but before I do. Let's talk about color coating for those. So bus with so-called normal color vision color can be a powerful visual tool in helping us learn besides simple memorization rotation using color. Coding can help us learn to categorize ideas and see relationships. Thus moving us into higher level thinking thinking and deeper understanding there are a lot of different ways to use color coding with flash cards. Enough different ways. That not only could that the topic be its own episode. It could be its own podcast series so clearly. I'm only going to be able to scratch the surface. No wait how about if I draw the rough outline and you color in the details yourself. Okay stop growing. That's not upon. It's a metaphor one general way to apply color coding. The flash cards is to use different color cards. As as you know. These are easily available to students. I'm still waiting to see index cards available in my favorite color though. My favorite color is plaid. I can't be the only one right. You'd think somebody would have come up with a plan index cards by now another way to use color. Coding is to I use different colors of pen or pencil within a single card now minor green because I always carry a green pen with me as a matter of fact sitting right next to my microphone are. Let's see one two three four green pens. I talked about green pens back in an episode. Six if you want to hear why use them but one does have the option of using a variety of colors of pan or even highlighter when color coding the information within a flash card and when could use colored index cards and colored pens or pencils and or high lighters so you can have all kinds under colors going on using index cards. I it may not work maybe too many colors. Of course all this begs the question in. What exactly are we coating here? How are we applying color coding? Well there's all kinds of possibilities. We could color code cards by topic which might help and keeping them all organized and a big box like we talked about last time or a student student could use different colors for tax breaks cards and those that primarily use an image so you have techs cars all one color and image cards all another color color or you can have all the histology flash cards be one color. You'RE GONNA have histology flash cards mixed in with almost any topic. AMP right so if they're all one color then you can pull out those histology flash cards right away or anatomy cards could be a different color than physiology carts arts are. We can use color coding for different levels of importance complexity. There's really an unlimited variety. A of different kinds of categorization to which we can apply color coding. It's whatever an individual student find to be most helpful in their own efforts to construct their own conceptual framework of amp which brings us to another option for using flash cards that is adding layers of information. An episode fifty eight. I talked about keeping flash cards simple if I but then adding more layers ears of information as learning continues as that module in this semester unfolds or is that semester unfolds or as has the next semester on full I like to use a constructivist model of learning where I think of students learning. Amp appea- or learning anything. Really as if they're constructing a framework of knowledge which we can call a conceptual framework when we plan out Our story of human structure and function that is when we design our course we usually start out with some simple foundational ideas like what chemicals are and how they work we explain the basic ideas of Essen basis and then survey some major a group of biochemicals and kinds of core topics within chemistry. And then we come back to that later and add a layer of knowledge and understanding standing when we talk about what those bio-molecules are doing in the south and add yet another layer when we get to the tissues and then two each organ of each system so for two semesters were adding layer by layer in other words. We don't explore for the concept of protein for example all at once a student's understanding of the concept of protein evolves and grows does each time it's encountered in a new context in a new chapter of the story. We've planned out in our course we can call this this layering or we can call it interleaving or we can call it a spiraling curriculum or we can call it. Constructing a conceptual awesome framework. Goes by a lot of names but it's a real basic idea of learning doesn't really matter what we call it. I guess as long as we're doing it my point here is that students can add layers of content to their flash cards to reflect. This manner of learning this practice becomes a concrete concrete reflection of the learning process. Going on inside the students mine it also promotes student going back to review what they know and understand. Stand about the concept. Already this reinforcing prior learning beyond that I think this practice of adding layers of content of flash cards and also promotes thinking about connections between concepts this forming those interconnecting cross beams. That strengthen a student's students conceptual framework as it's being built up and here's a spot where we could add. Color coding within a card the first entry on the reversible reversible Flash Card could be simple definition that could be kept near the top edge of the card and be highlighted in yellow. And then as more information is added below either not highlighted or highlighting a different color or written with a different color pen or pencil. It would stand out that core information mation would be easily identifiable at the top in its own color and the added layers of information would be slightly separated but all they're on the.

"I think they did a really great job again visually and auditory for me not not meaning words of expressing Emily's P._t._S._d.. Her coming out of the subway the bright light all the tech beeping the cars honking the just overwhelmed nature of everything that Emily's coming into. I I thought was depicted in about ten seconds worth of overwhelming noise and visual all around her. Did you feel like the vibe between emily and her wife was what you expected. I expected affected it to be awkward. <hes> and I got awkward I can't I can't project too much in my own thoughts into this one on because I think I'm getting the wrong read because when I see the emily scenes all kinds of glued together I see a person who is an feeling left out in the cold and like like not not sure where they fit in anymore but I didn't exactly see something. That wasn't a welcoming UH situation. You know what I mean like. The the wife was kind of weird not entirely aloof but just not entirely warm either but the sun was was was drawn pictures of her and and and wanted you wanted to hug her if it was okay but it wasn't quite okay yet and he could have been a lot weirder for her you and it wasn't it wasn't that high on the weird scale so here's what I'm going to. I'm going to do for for for daily review this week. I'm going to say that this is such a developing situation between emily her wife and Oliver that I am actually not going to force us into casting any particular judgment even really harsh critique of this section. I'm going to say all that we really got was a foundation that they were trying to go slow that the wife had in fact put up all the pictures of of emily around the house Oliver had had drawn pictures of of mom trying to get out of Gilead. I thought it was very interesting that it was in a blue superhero suit with it made me wonder if there was a little foreshadowing to Serena there or maybe they're gonNA wear wives outfits to get out or something because there was an a blue super suit a felt like there were moments that were not said between them like for instance when Emily says I'm GonNa go stay at the hotel and the wife says okay. I thought that that could have been played differently in a been most realistic situations for me. I think it would have been played out a little more like if the wife was if she's the the home team right and emily's the away team. It's the home team's job to make you feel welcome right so even though it's awkward. I thought that the wife didn't really do anything to make it where the door was open to emily meaning in that moment I think of really common response would've been say of course if you feel like staying at the hotel a hundred percent honor what you WanNa do but WanNa let you know. You're welcome to stay at the house bright. I agree with that so I thought it was very unusual that she didn't say that and I thought there was a lot autumn moments like that where it's like what the wife didn't say or how she didn't really open the door for emily that when you accurately describe it as she's looking to where she fits in. I don't really feel like the wife set a place at the table for her in a way that that seemed like and here's where you could sit when you're ready. It felt a lot like you can just stand and observe what me and Oliver already do. I'm not really even comfortable kind of make room on the bed for you to sit with us <hes> so that dynamic really raises a lot of red flags for me and we discussed this a whole bunch and again. I do not WanNa dissect the section because I feel like we could be really really wrong on a lot of stuff if we go to quickly so I'm just going to say that. This section was a really serious foundation for me to have a lot of questions about what emily and her wife and their family life was like before Gilead because the welcoming home I know you could chalk it up to especially Oliver said the words like I know I'm not supposed to hug you like they told me not to. Clearly there had been some sort of pre-game conversation about how we're GONNA handle mom probably even to the wife like so your spouse's coming back. Here's how you should do it so I get it that there's been a lot so I don't want to judge her too harshly and say. I don't really get why she wasn't more warm without being overwhelming. I think there was there was a line into me. She didn't go up to the light you know she's she hung back way further than I was comfortable however I'm was going from a really perhaps flawed idea that their relationship was gang busters before this will happen and I'm kind of wondering when we discuss the flashbacks we really only saw emily at work. We didn't have of all these flashbacks of her and her wife and the baby and we didn't have a lot of that. No I very little basis to understand what their relationship was before. I feel like we're just going to say that they did a good job of showing the awkwardness the uncomfortable nature the to use their word the weird feeling of coming back and how frightened emily would be and how Oliver I loved it actually that when he was reading the they're gonna read the Bedtime Story. Wife is reading it all his weight have a we have mom old other mom do it. Emily comes and sits and reads but she can't really get through it right. I thought it was really sweet that rather than have wife come in and say in gotTa Push Chamliyal Oliver took up the reins and read it to both of them while both of them were struggling to get through the situation and he think in the bless the child episode name God bless Oliver 'cause he's he's probably going to be the little glue and the little ray of sunshine and the little optimistic little face that these two women are going to need to work out their struggles couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you so much for listening by catch..

"Yeah. But extract me it struck me that this was the beginning of what I started to call social peacocking. Right. Like, it's kind of like, you know, the better version of you say, I think this liquor had, you know, the average version of you the daily review of you. It was kind of you. It was kind of you and your wholeness which Carro rate. It was kind of you as you know. It's just you know, as you lived, and you didn't have your showing off. And it wasn't like all the cool people that you're hanging out with all the beautiful beaches that you revolver you and your father account near lakes, and all that kind of thing which was because it was social media. It was social media had filters. And I think that the it's interesting because you, and I are old enough at this point to be able to distinguish between, you know, a pre internet world, we lived we actually lived in that ancient time now ancient time, which you know, and we're like the only generation that remembers gen Xers remember half their life with. Dial up modems or nothing, right. Even pre computer or nothing rate. And so I think it gives us an interesting perspective on things that you know, Instagram struck me, I was like, wow. You know, it's true that this is the first generation that has grown up with most of the imagery that they've seen in their lives has been advertising. Right. Yeah. Right. And that changes you, and you know, I just yeah. I fear for these kids like their whole lives are like fronting and this like foam. Oh, and it's so disappointing. Yeah. Right. Like, your whole your real life, and they all want to sell out. That's the other thing. That's weird. Like when we were growing up like the Rolling Stones were like, yeah. You can't use our songs in sending like oh folks here. But I mean, it's true. I actually now it's really, you know, rulings don't like Betsy before us. No. I know, but the storms Stars were. were not if you told the clash like, hey, would you do a Pepsi commercial? They'd be like what what brain murder and beat up the Pepsi. But would not. You want us to beat the beat each other bottles of Pepsi Ray. I mean, you know, all kind of rebellion was appropriated by what was used to be called Madison Avenue. But it's very interesting. I heard this new trend, this is super disturbing. You're gonna love it. Some of these insta- models are instant personalities are now because they covet getting advertisers sponsors to do this product placement. They're doing product placement and not getting paid for. So they see what Kim crashes doing she's doing like some diety Ray, they do diety and put a link in the bio to the diety and put the hashtag as if they're getting paid, right? Which would be like me show like dressing up like a cop and walking around pretending. I'm cop, right? Because then it seems as I'm not getting there to ready. They made it right. And I it's funny because I like my friends too. It's like, you know, whatever this was like the Truman show goes back to the Truman show. It's all about why are you? Raising the Cup. Yeah. Why are why are you who you're talking? Yeah. No. That was a great say what he's saying. Like who is it? This your time to just love sharing this moment of tea with you..

"He estimated the entire lot would have weighed maybe five pounds. There was no sign of any metal in the area, which might have been used for an engine. There was no words to be found anywhere on the instrument. Although there were letters on some of the parts considerable scotch tape and some tape with flowers printed upon it had been used in the construction now. From that. I'm thinking that if there were any aliens involved in that wreck they were pretty small and really low fi scotch tape, isn't exactly other worldly. Sure, if that's truly the extent of the wreckage than I think the impulse to rule out aliens is fair if that's the extent of the wreckage officially this is all MAC found, and this is my favorite part of the entire story. No matter what time line. You follow? There's mostly a consensus on what MAC did after he and covered the debris nothing he ignored it and went on ranching. He didn't pick up any of the wreckage or tell anyone for at least a few days. According to the Roswell daily review article MAC was prompted to take another look at the wreckage when he heard the first reports of flying discs as they were known. This would have been only a few days after the first sighting at mount rainier. But it's unclear what specific incident MAC would have heard about it's difficult to get a picture of man. Maximo tional state at this point. But from the newspaper article, you get the impression that he's treating the wreckage as an idle curiosity something to disrupt the doldrums of ranch life. He picked up some of it with his family and a few days later, he went into Roswell proper again the timeline on this is a little foggy but MAC most likely wind Roswell onto lie. Seventh on Monday. If that sounds arbitrary we'll have a few arguments in part to that'll tell you otherwise from their MAC approached the local sheriff, George Wilcox at some point MAC may have let the flying disc type get to him as he describes himself as telling Wilcox about the wreckage kind of confidential like while MAC was giving his statement to Wilcox something a little odd happened Judd Roberts, the co owner of a local radio station K G F L called sheriff Wilcox to ask. If he had anything newsworthy to report. And Robertson MAC briefly talked about the wreckage this seems a little inconsequential. And maybe it is. However, there's a lot of debate about what exactly Robertson MAC discussed during that phone call and during a subsequent radio interview some claim that Mack told Caja fell point blank that he saw aliens whatever they discussed sheriff Wilcox confounded by the wreckage. Call the Roswell army airfield to pass on the information. This introduced perhaps the most important character of the entire incident and intelligence officer named major Jesse Marcel the next day, July eighth Major Marcel drove out to max ranch with a man in plain clothes to quote, journalistic sources to pick up the debris the man in plain clothes was shared in Cavite. And he's a very odd addition to the story he's barely ever talked about in discussions of. The Roswell incident he was interviewed years later by UFO researchers and also by the air force, and depending on which of them you ask he either wasn't at Roswell at all or had no idea of the significance of the fine. It's generally considered that tavist helped Marcel and MAC gather up the wreckage, but the fact that he's such a footnote despite being a primary I witness of the incident is strange, maybe the ufologist ignore him. Because most of what he has to say on the matter is that nothing out of the ordinary happened. Either way Marcel MAC, and Cabot gathered the wreckage, and they all sat down and tried to figure out what the heck the thing was it was like a three d jigsaw puzzle without a box unsurprisingly..

"You can also check out the international UFO museum, which is packed with statues and dioramas ready made for an ironic Instagram post. It's probably the only place in America where you can get a picture of yourself playing foosball against an alien in short. The town is well aware of how synonymous it is with aliens. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, Roswell is happy to make money off of you. Which may be a recurring theme when we start examining. Why there are so many different theories about what hap-? Been there before we get into that. We have to understand what Roswell was like in nineteen forty seven when it was just ranchers farmers and a small air force base. If you've ever been out in the desert, you'll know that the sky is different out. There can be clear with the light of the moon bouncing off clouds or a pair of headlights in the distance can throw up some surreal reflections picture wide open plains stars as far as the I can see moonlit evenings. And make sure to spend a longtime picturing it because in nineteen forty seven. That's about all there was out there. There was no internet. No TV in only a couple of radio stations. The main sources for news along with neighbors or the newspaper to give you an idea of just how much less there was going on. If you look at the billboard top ten for July. Sixth nineteen forty seven five of the ten songs on the chart are covers of a song called pig. Oh, my heart. Despite all this Roswell wasn't as sleepy as it could have been largely due to the military base in town. It was the headquarters of among. Other things the five hundred ninth bombardment group the wing of the air force who just two years prior had dropped the atomic bombs on hero Shema and Nagasaki military presence along with a Cold War. Slowly coming into focus may have made the people of Roswell a little more paranoid. A little more on edge a little more conspiratorial. This is also the same time when the UFO wave of nineteen forty seven kicked off beginning with the first report of a flying saucer just a couple of weeks prior in mount rainier, Washington, the UFO wave accounts for somewhere between the official government in sixteen and eight hundred sightings in the same eight week period in mid nineteen forty seven not exactly a precise estimate as we try to unpack the official version of the Roswell incident. Keep that disparity in mind, this is a story full of wiggle room. While most people agree on a rough time. Online. The details have been so disputed that it may not be possible to tell you the official order of events the theories behind what happened during and after the incident have become so nuance that the times and dates sometimes down to the our change depending on who you ask. But we'll do the best we can to keep the facts straight. What we know for sure is something crashed near the property of WW Brazzale, generally known as MAC around town MAC was in his forties. Handsome, a rancher most of the people who described him referred to him as an old cowboy he uncovered the debris from the crash on his ranch, which even for this area of New Mexico is really in the middle of nowhere. If you go out there now, it's all flat plains in the same tiny houses from when MAC lived there. Even though the story hasn't begun. We're already running into problems. We don't really have any idea when the wreckage crashed or exactly when MAC found it. We're off to a great start the best we can figure out without delving into the various timelines put forward by pro Roswell conspiracy. Researchers is to say that the crash and max initial discovery occurred between June fourteenth and July. Fourth nineteen forty seven. He was wandering around his property about eight miles from the ranch house with either his son burnin or a neighbor boy named deep Proctor while there are varying descriptions of what exactly MAC found and where precisely it was this quote from the Roswell daily review on July ninth nineteen forty seven is from an interview with him. And it's the closest thing we have to an official primary source MAC described the debris as a large area of bright wreckage made up of rubber strips. Tinfoil rather tough paper and sticks in all..
