League of Legends: LPL to reportedly introduce salary caps

"Talk about League of legends. This story totally flew under the radar guaranteed no one watching right now saw this at all and to me this is a major like really major and Anyone talked about it. This was on Dadi. Sports. L. L. TO IMPLEMENT SALARY CAPS will assign players in tears based on performance. So basically, what they're saying is a Chinese. League of legends okay. is going to have salary caps like the NBA. So you can only pay players so much money. And and that they'll have a minimum wage, the lower limit, a luxury tax if you go over the salary cap right. but basically. That players based on how well they perform will be assigned to tears, which determines how much salary they can actually make. I this to me is unheard of both I think in traditional sports. And Any Sports William do you think this is great like as a team owner? Do you like seeing this is a I mean I. It's tough for me to say anything other than I really like it. You know I mean like look I mean it. It's in the L. p. l., which is hardly forefront of what we're looking at right now in terms of sports ecosystem but it's a very important league in the global context right and I suspect it's me to address a couple things right? Like one is. Like let's I think it's probably not good for the players because anytime there's a salary cap that's usually like that. That means you're salaries caps really I don't know if this is a win certainly for the top pros, it's on a win for the less strong pros. Maybe there's a benefit here because now they're more draft viable salary basis although to be honest, they were probably already draft five on a salary basis right? Because the answer is like if there's ten slots, the eleventh players basically like. They're either playing like a highly specialized scherzer deploying a highly especially skill or not. Right. So you know there's a lot of momentum to get to get edge players into the scene. I suspect it was driven by the fact that there there is a little bit of arms race sports, salaries that takes place right and I think the publishers looking at it and they're saying, do I want my teams because let's be honest this is not altruistic I. Don't think is right being like a really help you. If we capped the salaries, you spend less on your players right and also it's not even altruism because I don't think it's good for the players as I've said so I suspect this was motivated more by. Riot would like that money going elsewhere into content into videos into train like basically anything other than paying rents on athletes and the salary cap I thing is interesting. It's it's like. I'd like it to catch on I think it's good. We have models and traditional sports with salary caps that I don't think really work because a lot of this has to do with teeth if you're luxury taxes, two percent nobody cares. But I. Think it's an interesting thing to look at and I think I. Think it's a good like it shows that riot is continuing to look. Like they're not resting on the laurels at the L. and what's happening. It looks like they're looking at other structures on an even though this is not the lcs like this is an important league, and I suspect could be viewed as an incubation ground for new ideas you know. Says, massive for the future reports at I agree Cam Roman says this only in China so for yesterday. and Joseph I'm not familiar with the of legends but I'm guessing some teams make more making unfair advantage, I? Yeah. That's that's that's every league for the most part I just I love this for a couple of reasons one, there's a clear effort here to make. Team ownership more sustainable. Which? Just about every other sports league has largely ignored. Right, like here, there's a clear effort to say, and this is the second thing. I love about it and you mentioned it in in some ways it dismantles the ability to have an arms race right? That's fundamentally what it does. Players can still be played paid well within this construct and I would argue it's much more of a mirror talk crisi within this construct. But what you don't get with this is like. Team XYZ decides they really WanNa sign faker right and they're willing to pay faker fifty million dollars right now all of a sudden every player who thinks he's as good as faker or maybe sort of as good as faker is now going well, he's got he's getting fifty million, I want forty million right and you sort of get this runaway train of player salaries. That are being driven usually by one or two irrational signings. and this sort of. Cuts the knees off of that like it it, it eliminates the ability to have that is driven signing. And it ties it also performance. And therefore. You have real long term stability I think as a team owner in this league

Undercover Robot Interview

"Hello, this is Bertie I'm here with some big news. I've written a book. That's just been published. It's called undercover robot my first year as a human, and when I say I've written it what I really mean is that I co wrote it with my old friend, what he's not that old, but his name is David Edmonds, so let me introduce you to my collaborator and friend. David, Hi, story, Neue I am a key data old, but anyway we'll pass over that, David. Perhaps you can tell the audience a little bit about undercover robot. Well undercover Bogut is about. About a girl could dotty and dot. He's eleven years old and the thing you need to know about doc- is that she's not actually a girl. She's a robot and she's been designed by a professor Catnip, who is kind of like a dad? And if Dottie can survive for a year at school without being identified uncovered as a robot, she and professor catnip will win a huge amount of money. She lives with professors. CATNIP family who don't know that she's a robot and at school. Most people are taken in, but there's one boy, isn't there? Who's really onto her? Yes there's a guy called Martin strange. Who is trying to expose her and I should explain that it. You actually spot low Bot and identify the robot correctly you win ten thousand dollars, so people are on the lookout to see who might be global in their school. It turns out that there were five robots around the world who are trying to win this prize. And there were people trying to out them. Okay, so I haven't mentioned this yet but David. You're a philosopher onto you and you've published quite a few books. Some of them bestselling books on philosophy and book has. Has Quite a lot of philosophy in it, doesn't it? It's got a lot of philosophy quite well hidden, but the basic issue is quite philosophical, which is where a robot can actually be like a human. Is there something special about human beings that means loobox never copied them, or could really brilliantly designed and built low bought actually not only pretend to be like a human being, but to all intents and purposes be just like a human being, because dotty is very nearly like a human being, but she gets a few things wrong and Some of those things raise lots of questions. Questions in philosophy. What about Dadis first meal at the CATNIP family? How can just having SOPA raise philosophical questions we'll dottie gets into trouble very early on because she doesn't understand etiquette that you're supposed to put your knife in the light hand and the folk in the left hand least in British culture, the old thing about etiquette is that in other societies they do things differently, so it seems a bit different for morality, so for example pretty much every society people think it's wrong to murder somebody, but in different societies, people have different kinds of approaches to meals and food in some. Some societies you're supposed to burp loudly to show your appreciation. which little girl in the story does, doesn't she? The little cabinet goal does BURP and dotty Kapisa dotty copies. dotty assumes that that's what you're supposed to do. dotty can't quote workout which rules a supposed to be universal, which will supposed to apply to the whole world, and which rules exposed to apply just a maybe British society, or maybe just to the catnip household where she lives because at school there, lots and lots of rules aren't there and lots and lots of detentions it. It's a very strict school and dotty has. To navigate the school as well, but she doesn't want to be too good, because if she's good and doesn't get into any trouble. That would be suspicious. That will be like not a normal kid fact. She has a misbehavior quota, doesn't she? She's allowed to misbehave. I can't remember that eight percent of the time or twenty percent of the time we discussed it a lot, but of course she overshoots a quota quite a bit and gets into lots and lots of trouble. Yes, she also has to get what her designers programmers called friendship point she has. has to try and make friends with people in her class to show that she's capable of meaningful human interactions. There's a girl Kohana. WHO's quite a rebel who becomes her friend? But there others that she really annoys like Cindy Low, isn't there? I mean most people find quite lovable, but she can be a bit irritating sometimes. Yes, she can sometimes take it literally, which other people find really annoying. humor is sometimes be off, so she sometimes doesn't get palms, and at least the early stages. She's not very good at picking up the subtleties of human. Human Interaction and that's why she gets into so much trouble. We're not going to say everything, but it does build up to a very big climax, and some really crazy stuff starts to happen almost surreal stuff that you as a philosopher I believe. Call a thought experiment. You know if you imagined this crazy thing could happen. What would that mean to philosophy? Yes, store a few thought experiments, the something that happens when dottie is in a zoo and wild animal escapes, and it looks like it's GonNa head for and possibly injured possibly even kill a bunch. Bunch of kids and don't has to decide very quickly where we should try to strap the bear, and pointed as it were in another direction, but the problem with doing that is that it would put other people at danger. Fewer people sadate estimate this decision wherever to save thirty lights, but at the cost of paps, killing five people, and not just any five people as it happens to people she would endanger would be members of the family that she lives with

"Per-capita we are praying and believing and hoping to some higher power more than we were before we are. and I wonder if there's a moment of national crisis. has done anything relationship with faith which you talked about before like. Are you a different kind of Muslim? Was Worse than with higher power. Now what's really interesting? Is that right now? It's the month of Ramadan so Muslims around the world where fasting. And, this is like the holy month for us into me. The toughest thing about Ramadan to me and I've had to mourn it. A little bit is so much of this is based around community, but you know community prayers aren't happening. Mosques aren't open right now. You know during Ramadan night. You go to the mosque and you do night. Prayers or you have people over for if bar to break fast, and you literally baked bread with neighbors and friends, and it's this. It's this month long thing that entirely built around community and I didn't realize that so much of the kind of strength that I get from it comes from that community aspect of actually touching and being around people. My religious identity is never been about. The dogma per se in a lot of times I struggled with growing up. There seem to be this. Very transactional relationship with. A person and God I pray this many times. If I do this this many times I will get X. or Y., you know in every. I think every most of the Abraham. Faiths have this this very strange like Super Mario. Brothers level up type of thing of like. If you. If you collect this many coins, you get to this part of Heaven, and if you do this on this night, you get you get to take the green tunnel into this part of this unique spiritual world. Exactly that's never reward like it's also guilt based as well. If you don't get the coins. Theorist God and your family yeah, you're GONNA. Go down to where. Yeah. Yeah Fiery pit. Yeah, that never did it to me. It was again. It was always about when I think about it. He heard Friday that to sixth graders had a hit list, and we're planning to gunned down students here about an hour. West of Knoxville was taken in custody. Isis leader Abu Bakar Dadi was last seen when ISIS controlled huge parts of Iraq and Syria. They now lost that territory. Why Game of Thrones is the first and last of its kind

"Today with a recording of a language that no human civilization ever spoke yet. Most of you are going to understand some of them as Bruce Dadis cost out. She finally that negate Dianetics Jen Massimo entered Gary Arlen and bolero Kohana Godich, son. The card is. See if you want to get a handle on why we're spending a Friday talking about a TV show. Remind yourself that game of thrones created a language that people who snickered at dragons in highschool can speak. The show's final season debuts this Sunday night at nine PM. And that in itself has significant in a world where we're used to media being delivered on demand to each of us whenever we find the time to watch him on one hand game of thrones has been the first of its kind a blockbuster fantasy epic adapted not to film, but to television that broke the mold for these stories and brought adult fantasy to a very lucrative global audience. It has changed that industry and on the other hand, it has also the last of a species the television event that the world watches and talks about together, and that doesn't really happen anymore in that sense. Emma, thrones is a dinosaur and the industry has changed around it. So what happened eight years ago when this show debuted that? Made this possible. Why did it happen with this story? What will be left behind in the world of television. When it's over. How has it changed? Both the stories that we tell and the mediums that we used to tell them. Oh, and who's going to end up on the damn iron thrown. Jordan, heath Rawlings. And there's only one war that the great wall. And it is. Andrei Dmitri's is a writer for various publications. He's one of our favorite guests here on the big story knows a little something about game of thrones. Why did game of thrones of all shows changed so much? I think your frame of reference if you happened to be ten generally into the fantasy genre your frame of reference was most likely the Lord of the rings, or Harry Potter and regards to the fact that both Lord of the rings, and Harry Potter had very wide fan bases and people really loved it enjoyed both movies. And maybe people less enjoyed the Lord of the rings books because let's be honest. They were pretty dry. There was at least an understanding that this was not necessarily meant with an adult audience in mind. Dickey ruling did not write the Harry Potter books for a Dulce. They were very clearly kids books Gerald token, even though you could say that it was you know, a very mature high fantasy series. It was also written with young people in mind. A game of thrones comes from that the post nineteen seventies dungeons and dragons Jonah where this these are very mature stories, the it it involves mature themes. Blood and guts and sword and sorcery and all that stuff for a cult audience written for an audience of twenty-something guys that would get together around somebody's kitchen table on a Saturday afternoon and drink beer and play a role playing game. Like, that's sort of the the culture that it's bonds out of. So I think that people were looking for a more mature fantasy product to you know, to to just watch and enjoy and game of thrones really really hit that Mark people when they were describing the show early on weren't talking about a game of thrones and reference to other fantasy series. There were talking about how different game of thrones was from other fantasy series that they'd ever heard of to the extent that they were saying things like, you know, this is the sopranos with sorts or this is the wire, but with magic my partner hates fantasy stories and hates magic and dragons and stuff, and I knew that this was going to be something different. When I essentially told her, look, I know you don't have to watch this with me. But this is an adaptation of a book I love so I'm going to. It down and watch it. Anyway, you're welcome to join me or not and she joined me for the first step aside and has watched every single episode multiple times. And that's when it became clear that this was something else. The fact that people will spend time re watching them, and it's not just happening in the run up to the last season every season that comes out I see people on social media, and I know people that will simply rewatch the entire series. Just so that they can be caught up. It's I mean, it is a very complicated story with a lot of moving parts and a lot of different characters. But I don't think they would actually do that. If they didn't really really really enjoy the show, and I think it's so enjoyable like the idea, so the fact that you would watch five or six different seasons just to prepare yourself for the upcoming season. That's I can't think of another toward the sun. Then when did it become clear that this was going to be the defining television show of this era? I think it was probably around the red wedding in the third season. My king has married and I owe my new Queen wedding. Give.

The guy went up with the shot and dines body. Absolutely hit guys body, if you're Dadi you have to make sure this more distance between you and the shooter just don't do that. So money issue is not with the foul. Call. Neither was Bruce Pearl's he said something like why are you gonna call that game? I don't know what he meant by that. But that was a foul. My issue was that never should have happened. There was a very clear double dribble white before that that should have given the basketball back to Auburn with a chance to make two free throws make it a two possession game and put the game away. But as it turns out, they don't call the double dribble. You get the foul. Call on Dadi guy steps up makes all three free throws and believe it or not Virginia is on their way six tenths of a second point. Throws it in. Three. Sixty two the Cavaliers. Championship. Three.

"The dusky back is a small predatory refinish in the master of disguise. Unfortunately, that does not bode well for other fish that live in the reef there about one hundred species of Dadi bags living in tropical and sub tropical reefs in the Pacific and Indian oceans, they're often brightly colored and generally less than four inches long. The dusky dowdy back is a mimic that can alter its coloration. This allows it to blend into the surrounding background color in order to hide from larger penetrate fish hiding is one thing, but the Donnie back has taken its ability one step further scientists from Cambridge University found that Dadi backs which normally vary their coloration from pink to gray where either yellow or Brown on the reef surrounding visit island off the coast of northeast Australia. When side is. Instigated further. They found that the area had populations of both yellow and Brown. Damsel fish, the Dadi bags were not only mimicking the surrounding background vaber mimicking the differently colored fish to determine what was happening. The scientists built their own simulated reefs and stock them with either yellow or Brown damsel fish when released into these reefs, the Dadi bags changed a match the particular damsel fish color in about two weeks. Additional tests show that was the Dadi bags matched the color of the damsel fish. They were up to three times more successful at capturing and eating juvenile damsel. Fish mimicry is found in many species, including birds butterflies and fish. But when mimics encountered too often species developed tactics to buy them, the Dadi bags color flexibility makes it more difficult to recognize his one sneaky little fish this moment of science come from Indiana University. "Craig's definitely done the most traits this year, right? Oh, yeah, Craig, Craig is going hard in the paint when you start off like slow slow, like he's putting up points but losing, I guess you're more open to like, you know, you're like, I'm just trying to get some pieces together like change things up, but but my attitude have been like, what else can I do put up one thirty in lose. That's just that's just dumb luck. Like there's not a lot of pieces you can move at that point. Yeah, there's not a ton you can do. I just want to ask before we go any further. You are recording, right? Yeah, I've checked. I just wanted to make sure because I was like, we've been talking for a while. I don't know if he was according our conversation. Wasn't. I wasn't your kid's fair question because we did have a conversation for like an hour before we started. This did not record any of that, which is very unusual for me. I usually record everything. Just why have what I like to I, who is the the secret Dadi tapes that Terri Lewis Wettin me releasing. He's acting in the chat like he's not sweating it, but I know behind the scenes, he is sweating it and and he and I had, I had to call his bluff and Beckham into a corner and just tell me to release it then tell me it's okay and he was like out Conquer. or. I want to what they going to release it, but then Dadi stepped in and asked me not to. And so I am keeping those and we will actually listen to them at the meet up. So they already told her, I'm bringing them with me and one form or another. And after a few drinks, I'll get everybody agree that it's okay, and we're going to listen to Dottie had to say, we we, it was, we did the music show and in between songs we'd have conversations about some of her Snapchat experiences. So I've got a lot of interesting stuff about some people that are going to be at that meet up. Interesting. What you say about me? Oh, biggest Hauge them all. It's why those are only words, and then we moved off. Thanks for lying. She just started blushing and she just couldn't say anymore. Perfect. Are Dadi said that's why that's why I always pick you. So what? What do your dress that question? What was your question? Oh, we were required. Yes, yeah, we're good. Okay. Sorry. Yeah, I just wanted to make sure because you know we were if you did it record and they'll just like, oh, shoot, I forgot to hit the record button. It would have sucked. So yes. So the winner of that match up was strikeforce. Now speaking of of your girl Dadi let's should we jump ahead and do that one. This. I think this might be the match up of the week. This matchup I think has a lot of determining factors of the look of the playoffs. The one that happened already know the one that's happening right now. No, you're skipping to. Yeah, we are still in last week. No. Yeah, this next week next week she has the match of the week for sure. In this Dadi versus Joe loves cats c. minus. They went at most years. You'd feel like this is this is a big one anytime. See, meet somebody that you know, has some wins under the belt. I feel like it's going to be a good clash. Maybe the second biggest beatdown of the week. Yes, she is struggling a little bit this year him wasting his pick on levian is I think, really biting him in the, but this year is that. But here's the thing. How long do we give him a pass for that? That's one pick. How does that mean the rest of his team is also doing so well. I mean, you're you're right on that, but it does gotta be tough when you're first round puts up zero points every week. I feel like I feel like I'm tired. All right. So on the week where my first rounder goes on a BI week and it happens to be in the same week as my quarterback am. I guaranteed to lose that week. But if I if I win, doesn't that mean sea should be picking up some more winds like this? You've got up enough of a team. I mean, see minus. He's got Alfred Morris on his team right now. How good is this out? Good. Is this right? He's. I mean..

Because she was supposed to do a memory lane with me and she bailed out. Yeah, that's. Oh, I got pissed at her because it wasn't that she just decided not to do it. It was that she just like stopped responding like we're supposed to do it on a Saturday night like a couple of weeks ago. And so I stayed up and it was just like, hey, are you ready? And she was like, yeah, give me five minutes, and then ten minutes would go by. It'd be like, hey, it's been five minutes since you said you would be ready in five minutes and it's like, what's going? Oh, yeah, you hold on just give me a few minutes and it's just kept doing that shit. And then ultimately, like just never responded like I didn't. I stopped writing and she never back. And then days went by wasn't till like the following Tuesday where she wrote like, hey, how's it going? I was like an, I didn't respond. Oh, are you mad at me? I was like, no, it's cool that you just walk in like ignored me and then didn't say anything like, why didn't think you'd care and like you think care that? Yeah, you had a good scoring week that we kind of did that this week, but John did not do that this week. Not even ninety points in Dadi just trout's just one hundred forty, six on them. Just put almost sixty points on them. I feel like we're going to have to update the shit the bed score. Oh, wait. I'm telling you, wait, wait. We do. We do seventy. Sixty five because opinions is that this you got to look at this year's offense to right. It's like it's weird. How much more points are being score nowadays than compared to last year? Yeah, I think a lot of people say it's, it's not, but I do think it's due to the new, the new rules, like not being able to like just smash the quarterback. That's I feel that's that's weird. I get it, but like a flag on him or something. So you can take it off. What's just make it flake football, see their, their fragile fragile, and without them it's an ugly game and not Cam Newton, and he's a fucking reckon ball. I don't know. He's he'll he'll be injured for at least one. What will happen is he won't miss games just play injured and not plays well, but it's going to happen. It'll happen. Oh, well, anyway, we should go back to what we were talking about which wise, which was the voodoo kin mafia against. Did can we trust like I said, Doddie one hundred forty six points in John oath only with eighty seven of just not a good showing for John zero points out of tight end, I think killed them dotty on. We just had strong scoring all across the board to people over twenty with with one hundred forty, six points. You'd figure you'd give more people over twenty, but she only at two and it was completely enough to beat pretty much everybody except for one other person this week. So congratulations Dadi. So, I mean, do you really you really think there was much much chance to get one of those guys. Les miles. Okay. You know what? Let's cut to the chase. Okay. Less miles was fired for a reason. "He was it in meyer of al bought dadi the leader of isis and that's supposed to be a dismissive statement like wellbacked ice just some fringe guy that hijacked peaceful religion in this law um but here's the ominous point friend alboghdadi was born in iraq when he was seven years old he began or read the writing society put the and hossam albina the founders of the muslim brotherhood he grew up in became the phd and feat that is the law or sharia and ask surely found himself into leader pissed ship position isis is muslim brotherhood alkai ada is founded on the ideology of the muslim brotherhood which is exactly the reason why sean we need to refocus our attention on designating the muslim brotherhood as a terrorist organisation because they are actually the father of all osbert remember when i was making a big deal about mohammad morsi and he was a former leader of the muslim brotherhood in egypt and member he had made the statement that that jews are the descendants of aid some pigs and remember he got the support he got in f sixteen zagat billions of dollars from obama and the administration and i was saying this is a really really dumb idea are you supporting somebody with the most radical believes in here's is history and they didn't want to pay any attention to the likes of me or anybody else and they i anyway they were already committed in the foreign policy arena no date back to the muslim brotherhood in syria that's what benghazi is all about we've been finding more about that lately to through the defence intelligence agencies declassified documents but the muslim brotherhood more skin to isis in arkansas i i literally gonzaga's to you guys all day long um i hope people less sitting a goes one day i'm gonna reminds you sadly i hope to god i'm wrong but i think i'm going to be reminding you of these conversations that we've been having with still a penny and chris gobert's thank you both for being with us eight hundred nine for one sean is our number you want to be a part of the program know back in 2010 the federal government yeah they took over the.
