Scott Spencer: An Ocean Without a Shore

"Guest today is a writer that I wanted to talk to for more than twenty years, and somehow he has slipped through the cracks now. He has a new novel. It is Scott Spencer. The novel is an ocean without a shore. I personally feel it's the book for the time we're living in. Inadvertently, he's written. The book for a person who was suffering the Song Tude of pandemic. Then narrator is a man nicknamed Kip. His real name is Christopher and he discovers. That he has lived his whole life. In Quarantine, can you tell me about the? Yes and Brazil thanks Michael Great to hear Your Voice. KIPNIS Kind of south impose prison because she is in love with his best friend, but he's not out to his best friend out. And he sort of maintains this. Distance. Hoping that something will happen that will. Everything, and that his dream of of of the long unrequited mobile's suddenly be Hinz, and it just goes on and on and on what's he spends a year in the two years, not being open to his friend about his sexuality, it just becomes more and more difficult to get out, and before he knows it decades go by, and he's still in the same situation still waiting, presenting the happen so. Waiting for his life to begin. He suspects. and. I suspect that his suspicion is true. That there are many others like him who never came out of the constant who have lived a life of restraint and lying. Many of the people reading the book, saying Oh. This is not a character for our age. But restraint. Fear desperation. Are qualities that exist in all ages just because there was gay pride doesn't mean that all gay people were able to March fourth, and this is a novel about a person who found himself in the prison of deception. What made you interested? In this extraordinary character, he grew on me. I wanted him to narrate this book because I was really interested in seeing daddy's who'd been a previous look of Minos, interested in seeing him from a different angle and I I thought that that would be kind of you know nick, caraway type of narrator who is they're not there. But. Once! I began writing in his voice. I became more more involved with him. Attached to him, and it really became his story. Not Telling the truth about yourself is something that we all cope with to one degree or another and. It's something that I've personally struggled with not so much in terms of my sexually, but other aspects of me that I don't shame. Shame about didn't WANNA. Do Somehow shift your movers sins such a way that I will be accepted in the world that I lived in. So that sort of section. Interest me, and in also seems to be very very dramatic and I'm also interested in in people who are a little bit left behind by history and Kim's very left behind by his tipples, living in the postal law world, but can't. Be Apart of it. Well. Scott Spencer, I would say that just about every gay person has some point of his trajectory, or another has got to get over. Gov a deep love for a best friend who is not gay. This happens and it happens, and it happens again.

We were already gently checking about this before we started recording. How have you been getting on during lockdown generally? It's strange now because I want to use the phrase noble because I don't think his normal. Ud, just kind of comes and goes in waves. Doesn't it kind of? How bothered you are by things and I. Think in a strange with that. We've sled a relaxed some of the lockdown roles. It's almost harder in a way like when it was very strict roles, we'll do what we couldn't couldn't dare. Except for Dominic Cummings, who did? What we were allowed to do, and we all we all just stay home and we isolated with the people that we lived. Whereas now there's all these thousands of perplexing roles about you can go to the zoo, but you can't see grandma you're. You're allowed to go for Bob Hewitt at your friends, but you cannot can't use the toilet, so it's all. It's all very strange. During knows us to be happening when it's super strange. If you're single like me, because a friend tweeted earlier, basically you can go to the zoo, but you still have sex. If, you're single. Technically like that has been no announcement about anything like that. So that's is just a weird state of events is net, but anyway. The zoo. A question. So to get the most serious stuff. Have you found anything particularly challenge challenging during the pandemic. yeah I think. Initial theory again we've been. We've been inside for months now. going chronologically at the beginning of lockdown. Wife found really difficult was pretending that everything was normal. Think particularly as a writer people looked at. My life has one which could very much carry on us normal like. What are you worried about? You can just keep on writing like this'll be great. You could just get the next novel done. And so I made a little office space in my living room of tried to. was really really pushing myself to work. Like from nine to five and Then at the same time. I was like project managing my partner as well because he'd been furloughed was right will. This is a list of jobs that need doing around the house. About maybe three weeks in I just had a complete breakdown, and it manifested with me attacking of Venetian blind. Wasn't that wasn't behaving in the way I wanted it to, but that's just wasn't remember that night. I just went to bed, and just cried and cried and cried and Max I think wasn't really shall what was going on, but I think. I just needed to let it out because I've been soft clinging mom. And and you know, it wasn't normal and isn't normal this this isn't like anything that anyone who is alive now has experienced I mean potentially if you are old enough to remember World War Two and I guess you. You've lived through this situation before, but everybody Balm Post Nineteen fifty isn't GonNa remember any of situation like this and I think the there was almost I had to go through a process of just accepting that nothing was the same an indeed and I've had seen the people of referred to it as a love, the same emotions as bereavement. Light let's Elaine go part. Of like, you're not going to be seeing your friends, you're not going to be seeing your family. You'RE NOT GONNA be. Doing exactly what you want to do. Doubled up, point is. Public Health Fairs. Are. We GonNA get sick. Are we going to die? I'm having I was very lucky in that nobody who I personally NAR has. died of Covid, but my daddy did get sick from something else, so we were trying to deal with you. Know my dad being in hospital and Oh my God. He's in hospital with his diabetes is GonNa get coronavirus. And, so I immediately knew that something was seriously wrong. I try to stand up and got nauseous and wanted to vomit. God lightheaded, these guys had ended up carrying me out through the woods into backyard and long story short went in for X-rays the next day, and in fact it was. It showed that it was. It was fractured now over the next couple of days we were trying to get some reassurance as to whether or not, I should have a a surgery. be to try and. Determine if this was a stable or unstable fracture, and we were able to determine a week later after the inflammation was down that it was an unstable fracture needed to have needed to be set needed, have Eight screws and a plate. And so that surgery happened. Two days ago. I think everything went really really well, but I am now convalescing. In in bed, and it's been really a a bit of a torturous last. While I'm trying to figure out what to do with this. I want get out and I WANNA I wanNA swim I want. I want to walk. I want to do something. So the last time that we had joined the podcast. Cove in nineteen, just hit It was back in March I. Believe you know we're now. April may June. We're now. It's three months later. Do you have any thoughts on kind of where we are right now with. With the corona virus will what is very apparent if you. Follow the television update every day is that? There are number of states in the east to really buckled down and played hardball. Social distancing staying at home handwashing. Getting Really Interesting, out governor Cuomo. Absolutely counter that message for day after day after day. And the the states there on East? Kept pretty under control on the other hand. Those? It opened opened early and relevant, more lax are never or never closed. It looks like we're paying the price I think next week will really tell the the virus. The virus doesn't listen to. to anybody the virus has its its own pace and what it's going to do. But there has been something that I'm particularly keen on because there's fits right into. The the lifestyle that we want ARC agency. Cardiovascular Disease Fall. And just to give you a little bit of background. This has to do with with nitric oxide and we may have talked about it. Somewhat last time, but I think it bears repeating because yeah, sometimes, the whole concept is not that easy for people to grasp the first time. And it was a number of actually a decade or two ago, maybe more. That was found out that earlier virus. Could be killed by nitric oxide, which is obviously a molecule of gas. And so at the present time there are two academic institutions spoke. The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. and. Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio. Where they have. A. The Army's top enlisted service member opens up about race

"Sergeant Major Michael Grinstein is the highest ranking enlisted member of the US army and he took to twitter to share a very personal video message about race. And our army, we have to trust and understand one another. We have to be willing to tell our stories. Here's part of my story. I was born in nineteen sixty eight. Father was black. My mother was flying. When I was three, they divorced and I moved Alabama. Racial identity is something that I struggle with my entire life. Coming to grips with both sides, my Daddy! At one point I decided I would put. Black on the form. And at that time only had two choices. So ended the form that I was given to the lady, and she says that's not funny. What are you talking about? Said you should mark that. I said well. I explained are black and white. have too many choices or anything else on that. Sometimes by life on felt like. It's in the movie the Greenberg where. The actor gets out of the car and he says I'm not black enough for the black people not wide enough for the white, people. That's my story. Here more of his story right now. Sergeant Major Michael Grinstein. Thank you very much for being on the PODCAST. Sure for hosting and I look forward to discussing so you told CBS Sunday morning that your driver's license listed. You cough occasion. When when you enlisted in one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, seven, as a result of that. You checked Caucasian, but then you had. An opportunity to check that box again and that's when you checked. Black in the lady said that's not funny. What changed in you in your life? For you to make that change? This was one of those things that. You know I struggle with You know my whole life I mean. You know because people would always ask and even in that same interview, people would say well. You know my you know as I travel around I got older people. Just you know. Walk up and say what are you? which is I, said in the interview was probably the worst thing you could say to anybody and almost brought. You would get was human, and then I'd probably say what are you? But I think for me. It was coming to grips with both sides of me and who I was as a person you know I was I was really proud that i. feel you know a proud of both sides of me? and I struggled with that my whole life. Because there was everybody wanted to put me. in the box box that was And in in my, In my twitter video I said was When I watched the movie Greenberg. I really identified with that character in there when he said you know I'm not. I'm not enough for the bike, people and not wide enough for the white people. So when I when I checked that block it was Kinda myself actualization that there are two scientific. And I and I can be proud of both sides of me. Sergeant major can I get you because that was the line. And he came at the very end of your of your twitter video which I found very moving, and I would love for you to just to flesh out that line I'm not black enough for black people. How were you not black enough? Give you another story then, and this is actually recently. So I was I I'm trying not to. You. Know I really don't want to say exactly where it was I. don't want make any body upset. But I was I'll say a year ago. I was leaving installation. And you know there's there's both I you know. Sometimes I don't even know why we have all these racial blocks on the fort. Does it really matter? But there was a and I said look. You Know Comfortable Ama-. AD, Tech Black! And In I was going in the hospital for surgery and It was an African American female and she looks at me. and. I mean like. Really and And I well. My father's I just like this. My father is black. My mom is white. What would you like me to? And this is her words. We'll put other. so that's what I mean You know I that's I I can't say it. Any other way is when you get those looks from everybody You know that's that's that's the only way I can explain to. You. what it feels like when you know, you're not black there.

"Earl in New York. If you click a button is there early, new. York has proof of the Netflix Mural Shaniqua and matt. How're you? How are you doing well? Happy Father's Day to you that I'm not a father. I, am a mother or so. I've been told many many many many. Many Times. General but. Yeah so I believe I have information in popular evidence of Methuselah Aka giants as about in the Bible. Okay? What is your evidence now? Don't get triggered now. Don't get triggered that because it does have a lot of a fight, Bible references. that. Bible references don't trigger me, but I'm interested. If Bible references are so also earn evidence like a well I. mean that's sort of confusing me. Because like in my mind, the way I see it is no somebody wrote a letter back in the day and has the name. Well different from the Bible that has like no real Arthur's or you know energy. Don't know who will each book. We only know based on like sort of documentaries conspiracies in so on and so forth. That's confusing to me. Still getting to wear it might be evidence, or are you saying that if something was written down by someone at some point in time that it must be evidence well, not that it must be, but I'd say close to it in my in my perspective, but you know it doesn't work. Everybody understand that. It'd be a form of evidence, but it's not I suppose at anyway. Sorry, go ahead, man! In well to get to my evidence. I have actually photographed I'm looking at right now. I'm dying skills and giant gold flake. They're not like human proportions. They look like human skulls and human bones, and it's on, but right now based on the texts here based on information that explains certain things it says you know these are giants funds so IBM. And everything, but I have it all in front of me and I can okay. I'M GONNA. I'm GONNA interrupt you for one second because I think that we're going to go down a rabbit trail. All might come down to this. It sounds to me like you saw something on the Internet that looks like or is presenting you information that suggesting that these. Skulls and you just you believed it because it confirms something that's in the Bible, and you already want to believe what's in the Bible so that Dutt though that may qualify some form of evidence. That's certainly not enough evidence to convince anybody that's reasonable and confused as to. Why just looking at something that you saw on the Internet would be enough evidence to convince you read. So wondering which pictures you're actually looking at because some of the pictures that have reported been skeletons are known exposed hoaxes right so without knowing which one you're looking at question is then by any chance that could send you this information. You look over your so sure you can send email with links to TV at atheist. Hyphen community DOT ORG and I'll make sure that I forwarded to channel that. Once I can you repeat that again? TV TV at Atheist Hyphen Community Dot org, or you could google giant skeleton hoax and see if your picture appears amongst the ones that are known host hoaxes. Yeah, because if you don't have any other evidence to cooperate what you're looking at, it's it's. It's disheartening to me, dot. You would believe what you're looking at. When there's so much contrary evidence like if if that was really valid evidence and not one of these hoaxes that are used to convince impressionable people than you would see, it would be prominent like you would. You would see it would pervade archaeological an appeal to logical papers. There'd be papers written on it so. I would ask. This would be national geographic or Today Scholarly professors at university etc, and it wouldn't be just click bait photo on the Internet because this would fundamentally change. Huge things that we understand about our history, and so if if these were things were real, and the evidence was forum, it wouldn't just be on the conspiracy theorists, website or through some Google search this. Conspiracy Theorists website. To. See It on anywhere other than experience, conspiracy, websites or websites exposing those conspiracy theories. Because because was terribly. This is necessarily a conspiracy theory topic. Because if in fact, there were good photographic evidence to show that there were there used to be giants. Their entire scientific community is conspiring to keep that evidence from coming to light in any responsible fashion. That's why it fits into conspiracy. And, what? What did you do to validate it all? That would be my question aside from seeing it and being compelled by just onsite. What did you do to to confirm the validity of what you were looking at aside from believing it because it comports with a daddy much confirmative. Ability of it because I don't really know how. I don't want. So! You found something on the Internet you didn't do anything to come. I didn't actually find it. into me. You're set you something on the Internet. You didn't bother to do any research at all. You just call us to your homework for you. I guess yeah. You're on well. I can't give input on something I haven't seen. And while I'm happy to let you email us It would be nice and I'll say this to other people to measure beating you up. It'd be nice if some of you guys. Did your own homework just a little bit like spent four five seconds you because. If you have an image, you can do a Google image search and find out where else that's been reported. Maybe you find a news article about it because when you send it to me, that's what I'm GonNa. Do and my question is. Why should I spend all this time doing work that you could do just so you don't have to. Yeah and earl before we let you go I. Earl Earl. Interrupt, you for a second because I think this is an important port and I'm sorry to interrupt. You seem like you seem like a nice gentleman This is something that I say all the time I channel and it's something I wish people would do more often. It's advocate for your own and. People need to understand source methodologies significantly better. A lot of us are compelled to believe things that were exposed to because of confirmation bias, or or because of crowd conformity. There's a million reasons that we can be compelled and feel justified in believing things that don't actually make sense when you hold them up to scrutiny so I would encourage you before you call into another show before. Before you, start to report this or or put it out or spread it around. Do some advocating for your own understanding. Figure out how you would verify something like this. Go and find the sources do what Matt said and do a Google image search that like what you're doing now is a good step I. Suppose because you're actually seeking out people that are very likely to not. Not believe what you're saying just on face value, but there's a very good reason why ray earl is because we're not able to cooperate or validate what you're saying. Just you making a claim now? This happened to you I. Think what you need to do is learn how to source these things out so that they're not just surprisingly compelling to you and they become a little bit. Bit more novel, and that might be a journey towards uncovering more about what you believe in why I'm but a quick Google search will get you there where you want to go. I is a place called slopes, s., and E. ES DOT com, because if you go to slopes, dot com, there's a site there. That is fact Jack Giant human skeleton photographs that has went up January twenty, twenty, nineteen, covering a number different photographs, showing that this is false that these these are and so you'll be able to peruse through that link on smokes to see if the pictures that you got were amongst those that were hoaxes. A okay. To you know, gain some insight on how to get started on it of course image, Google, Google administered since on, and I thought I'd try. You would find other photos like this and it wouldn't really. Anything. There were there were number of like digital art. Contest sites ran these they were compiled together. Some of them as hoaxes. You know where to look at it in a voter shop perspective stuff all kinds of problems, none of it. is accepted as science or anything that is consistent with the known history of the world, but.

Australia cyber attacks: PM Morrison warns of 'sophisticated' state hack

"Joining me today is Alessio Pessolano professor at King's College London an expert on Asian. Defense welcome back Alexia good to have you on the program. Let's begin with the story that we've had in the news headlines Today. This continued state based cyber attack on Australia. Good morning and not yes, quite, so what is remarkable is that. The Prime Minister himself and held a press conference in which he wanted to alert. Is the broader public in Australia. The general trends in terms of cyber attacks against the country's. Government and business institutions warm anti. We're becoming a much more sort of like Numa feature live and and these. Situations new normal was not necessarily just a matter of hackers trying to make a prank, but actually these were very sophisticated advance. state-sponsored. Cyber based. Activities, so this is quite a strong statement, and in a way it's sort of lifts a bail from something that that it was well known it was certainly understood to be the case I think the key point that he was trying to dress was to emphasize the fact that the normal Australia seems to be they are receiving. End were very sophisticated cyber offensive and end your opinion of the security services technical branches wars. This is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future, giving his launching these attacks. Yes, that was the other thing I was waiting for you question actually and to give a little bit of suspense and the the. He didn't mention it directly. But, sources familiar with Kay's from within the government confirmed to Australian media that. It was China that it was referring to and certainly walls. Notable attacks are Chinese. Certainly the point that was made if you want to between the informal chatting after the press conference ended in the press conference, Inter clearly portrays pick shot, and in which district in government is Beijing. There is very worried that China's attacks are increasingly number, sophistication and Daddy. This is unlikely to go away in something that Australians need to use nets ends. Let's move onto to another story, which is unlikely to go away anytime soon. Which is the origins of the COVID nineteen outbreak? We had claims that The original outbreak came from a wet mock in Wuhan. Now we have the latest outbreak in Beijing and fingers are being pointed once again at wet markets. Absolutely so, what is interesting about it? Is that the second time, but because it's opening in Beijing and it's the capital in Jinping and the the the sort of like the. The public information machinery in in China had been very keen to identify as it had been indeed the case for most of the cases over the last couple of months that these were imported cases, and if you remember the beginning of the outbreak in Beijing, things were pointed to woods this sound. The dead seemingly had been imported. From Europe. So was not just sort of individuals coming from your rooms, believe in food, come from Europe was responsible whole for otherwise would have been an impeccable solution found the problem. Now where we understand now is that and that is probably not necessarily the case there is increasing downs and immunologists in. In in China looking at the case, suggesting vantage original samples of devised the found on this chopping board. In reality where passed on by by individuals and what they couldn't really quite understand is how or the southern you find yourself in the middle of over significant crisis and data the moment. Farrah Fawx Set FIRE to Our Feeds with the ESSENCE Challenge

"Todd. Hey. What's going on? Up here on my little photo balcony. I say toe because it's a fire escape. Accounts you can. I have fresh air. It's other son is beaming on me. And I'm thinking about The beautiful challenge is to talented on talking about stay, so there was a challenging a week about two weeks ago. at the height of the horrible horrible. Weeks that we've had especially since. It really. Kind of came to apex on May Twenty Fifth, when the unfortunate murder of George Fluey, which just really wrecked this country, but I notice a my time long because you were on my time line in a beautiful world, and it was a challenge tapping all these black women gas. Willie show a photo of them in joyous moment. You know the are happening. Yes, this each other. So I remember seeing the. and then I just brought me some some happiness because I kinda forgot I mean everything seemed really dark. Enough a gut. How beautiful life could be you know? It was like the black woman challenge and everybody else in started with a black woman. Guess every time I read it. It'd be like yes. Yes, yes, black woman, and I loved getting had over and over again right because you realize all your sister, see you when you see each other. And to your point. It was like the first time people have been posting. Happy moments in a long time is exactly exactly and so been another challenge popped up and I I said, is this are challenged? Do we miss a company email about the SS? Challenge I was really confused I? Know we didn't get it. Did you and then blow what happened? And it was the essence challenge in response to the vote challenge and one of the creators of the essence challenge, because so many people have contributed to the one of the ones that really popped up for me was fair. Super toot and you hear the episode you'll see. That is a full circle moment for her, but she had a response to the boat challenged, but she was like I. Don't want to be on our boat. I want to be on essence because I. Remember her posting. She said I think the the exact words were essence always has been there for us. Didn't always has and they let the manifestation begin. Think there. They really daddy long. Time minds our full and just saw you all know. In case you missed. It was really bad she did, but in case you missed it vogue, apologize worry like the Kinda nast was kind of apologizing Invokana disorder. Mentor I haven't pretended those headlines 'CAUSE. I don't believe it is too late. But if you know the gist, wise white hairs, and they were sorry to Real Terrell, the to really know though it was. Just was like you know we feel guilty, and we're sorry for how badly treated by people, but we're only saying that. Because all the black people we mistreated as a brand have come out, and said something about it, so his cited putting themselves on the cover of vogue as the vote challenge to show diversity that should be on. Bo and the people were like like people are like that but wait. We don't WANNA be invoke. We want to be on essence because that's always been our home.

"We have a lot to talk about today. None of which involves Joe Rogan. So that's why here that's why you're here. You go ahead and hang up because we're not talking about that today whatsoever. Not were not Besides that you can hear conversations about that literally anywhere else but no one's about and all by every single man however that has mouth has spoken about that other guy so or written articles about it. I challenge you all those people that are listening right now to send us some thought leadership on this situation written or spoken about by a woman other than Cara Swisher because she did talk about it on her. Show mind you. That's a Co hosted. Show but anyway go ahead but don't send it to us because we don't care we don't care but no one talking about this news worthy item which is to show better. Hori is a much better story. This this is a news. Worthy item is about the show. Call Her Daddy. Don't want anybody in the chat right now. Everybody has anybody listen to the show. Call her daddy or are you familiar with their current drama in the chat on not in the actual show? 'cause I've been down a rabbit hole rabbit holes with this show. It's a show by a twenty six and twenty seven year old women so Fia and twenty eight. I believe just their names are Sophia. Alex even co hosting the show for while they with The network Barstool sports and as little as a few weeks ago they were best friends. I don't know if they were roommates or not. I thought they were. That's why I'm like going. I wonder who's living like so anyway. Keep going they were roommates. They were friends they were there. Show is about sexual health and basically talking about who they're having sex with dating nowadays and how it all works and whatever and connects. Do how what it's like. It's kind of like love. Line you guys but without Dr drew like there is no Dr drew. It's just the other guy. What's the other guy? Adam Adam Curle but now Adam Corolla has morphed into eight twenty six and twenty seven year old girl women and they are both like Adam Corolla talking about dating and sex and random things for an hour or so because sometimes our shows are really long. So that's the vibe of what it is it's and it's sort of like I think it's kind of like our show to some degree though jess accept that were old and we don't get as Risque about talking about sex specifically well because married. People don't do that in public. That's why but that is correct Because yeah yeah so at least these two Mary. People don't do it and probably some do but we don't so they were about to sign a renew their contract with Barstool sports which was their network and then somehow everything went to Shit and there are a couple articles that will post in the show notes so that you can read the entire saga but basically they went to sign when they went to renegotiate Sophia found out that Alex was making more money than her significantly. More like fifty thousand dollars more and that is because she added the show and does the social media marketing so quietly she she either negotiated or renegotiated a different salary. Now keep in mind. One of the makes Sophia salary was like four hundred sixty six thousand a year. Alex's was like five Oh five or something like that like it. Wasn't that much difference. But it was different. Believe they've found that out in the meeting and then a little cloudy about so so then. Sophia left that meeting and got another meeting with wonder with the help of a friend that they're calling superman no not a friend a boy. Her boyfriend which I think is problem here. Boyfriend of the other girl is now knowing by yeah. He's now Yoko by setting up a meeting with wondering with with like he probably what happened is we had to guess. He buzzed and Sophie as ear. But how this should be making more money and that he could get them more money and maybe even get a commission if I guess and so he got the meeting with wondering which Alex didn't want only Sophia wanted that and then to make a very long story short not that we have to but just to sum up so guys know what we're talking about because they took that other meeting Barstool. Sports started talking about how they're greedy and hungry and ungrateful and then Sophia and Alex talk amongst themselves and realize that they were just valuing their show and what they wanted out of it differently so then Al and signed with Barstool sports without Sophia. She now has her own show called. Call Her Daddy. And Sophia does not exist in the podcasting space as of now. I guess unless she's going to do our own show wondering about summit up kind of but there was a little I mean the latest episode for. Call her daddy as of right now you guys. I don't know what number it is. You can actually hear directly from the founder of Barstool. Sports like he breaks it down all of the stuff that she just said from his point of view. So there are. It's not exactly how you mentioned it but I do appreciate you like following. It is just like some some nuances then. Also Sophia has a excuse me. Alex has a thirty plus minute video on her youtube channel where she also breaks it down step by step of how everything went down why. She made the decision that she made and she's completely transparent.

Be Honest And Concrete: Tips For Talking To Kids About Death

"He's been with sesame for a long time and she says the death of Willie the actor who played Mr Hooper. It presented a real dilemma. For the show's writers. They gave a lot of decision to this. So the actor dies in real life and you have choices when you have a television show G You replace the actor. Ju just right right the actor off and as we do on sesame street or always putting the needs of kids first so from an educational point of view. What is the right thing to do for children? And in the case of Mr Hooper. The right thing was to be completely painfully honest. Egbert Mr Hooper's not coming back off big bird when people die. They don't come back no number. Why not well Big Bird? Their Dad they come back This brings us to the first of our big takeaways be honest and concrete when talking with kids about the what of death what happens and what it means. That's right because young kids often have trouble understanding the permanence of death and rose. Marie says we. Grownups are often part of the problem. Death is a part about lives and what happens is that as adults. We find talking about death difficult and when we're trying to talk to our children about death we don't necessarily always have the words and so rosemary says we often use euphemisms instead which can be really confusing for kids and even scary thing passed away. The no is sorry for your loss. Went on a long journey Put the dog to sleep. We put the doctor sleep. That's that's a really big one And the reason for that is that well. Then if you're telling me now that the dog went to sleep in his not gonNA wake up and died while I go to sleep every night. Am I going to die? You go to sleep every night. Mommy and Daddy. Are you going to die? So it's really important to use the word died inequality I feel like we often trip up in our rush to want to reassure kids so I remember when my older daughter is three. She said I know Mommy. You said everybody dies but me and you and the cat won't die right and I so wanted to tell her. No nobody none of you know when you love going to die but you know. I had to tell her the truth and I was so glad that I did. Because if you years later our our cat did pass away did I. You hear that on you. It's hardcore you know we're so used to doing that. It's really hard. It's totally true. Muslims everywhere which is one reason. Rosemary says don't just use the word dive but also be clear with kids like this is what it means you know when you die. Your heart stops. Your body stops working. You don't eat you. Don't breathe to give more concrete information about what is the meaning of death. This is all true for when we're talking about the what of death but you know. The advice is a little different when kids are asking the why questions and this brings us to take away number two. Which is sometimes it can be better not to tell kids too much especially not all at once. So let's let's pick up where we left off with big burden. Why don't understand you know everything was just fine. Why does it have to this way? Give me one good reason. One good reason and it is at this point that a grownup on the show. A man named Gordon stands up. He walks over and he says something that just hit me. It's so simple. Cory bird it has to be this way because just because just because just because that's it. Yeah that's it. So Rosemary says they picked that answer for a few reasons so first of all. They wanted to leave room for families to talk about the meaning of death according to their own faith traditions their beliefs and you know and we as parents should always feel free to kind of we all will fill that in however it makes sense to us which is an easy right but rosemary says there's another reason they did it this way and it's the sometimes it's better not to give kids too much information at least all at once right so kids. They get overwhelmed really easily so to adults and in this moment gordon concede that big birds already taken in a lot so he holds back. Rosemary says she got advice on this one's from hospice social worker. Who specialized in talking with kids about death and she used the analogy of eating an apple when we eat an apple. We'd we'd the whole apple when a child eats an apple. They take a bite maybe two bites. They put it down down. Leave it on the couch on the floor on the floor. Pick a backup. Take two more by exactly and this goes on now. We will look at that apple and say gross like I ain't eating this apple But for them it's like I'm still eating the apple. That's probably how go into to experience death as well. They'RE GONNA take a couple of bites they're going to go on with their life and they're gonNA come back and they're gonNA take a couple more by rose. Marie are you that person that parent who slices up the apple and gives them a few slices at a time so serious. Where'd you the whole piece of fruit? But even the slice they probably not going to eat the whole

The Other Side Of Belonging

"I'm Nora mcnerney and this is terrible. Thanks for asking and this is Jen does it. I've done it and it's a terrible day when that happens. Yeah let's just circle back to the first question I asked you know. It's twenty sixteen not currently but for the sake of this story. It's two thousand sixteen and Jen and her husband. Brandon are getting ready to blow up her career Brandon. I had intentionally structured our lives so that we would shoulder the majority of the fallout so I had cleared my calendar. I hadn't taken any new speaking of events for the next calendar year because I knew what it would me I I knew that it would mean every single one of them virtually would need to fire me and it would cause such disruption in their own spaces among their own staff in committees and event planners and all that and. I didn't want that for them. So I had no events on the calendar I've cleared the deck. We had quietly unhooked from several like denominational partnerships that we were involved in those additional that we tried to avoid as much as we could. We prepared our little church as well as we could which there was a lot of division in there too and then so when it released were trying to stand with as few people that were. GonNa go down with the ship as possible. The ship is scheduled to go down with the media interview. Jen has already scheduled one that splits her with the faith that she grew up in she scheduled that interview knowing exactly what she would say in exactly what it would mean for her as a person and as a professional but I got to a point where I just said God literally either get to have my career like it is right now or I get to have my integrity and I have to pick because I cannot have them both and so I picked my integrity and I decided then I will stand in the storm I will not reverse. I will not walk it back. I will not change my mind. I will not soften the blow. I'm just GONNA take it. She made sure to follow up that interview with a facebook post to make sure it's absolutely clear and the facebook post says this so whatever the cost in loss this is where. I am gay teens. Gay Adults MOMMAS and Daddies of precious Gaby's friends and beloved neighbors a very dear. Lgbt folks here are my arms open wide so wide that every last one of you can jump inside. You are so dear so beloved so precious and important you met her so desperately in your life as worthy and beautiful there is nothing wrong with you or in any case. Nothing more right or wrong than any of us which is to say. We're all hopelessly screwed up. Jesus still loves US beyond all reason and lives to make us all new restored whole. Yay for Jesus Thank God. He loves us. He is not embarrassed of any of us. I am not a scandal. You are not a scandal. We are not bringing down his brand anyhow. My message to you today stemple. Lgbt gang and all those who love you you are loved and special and wanted and needed the end. But that's not the end not at all. It's not even really the beginning because in order to understand why that was such a big risky stand to take. You need to understand the world. The Jan came from the world that Jen grew up in. I'm the oldest of four kids And so I was sort of pilot kid. You know how the oldest gets the parents when they're still in their twenties and

I Love Alex. Push come to show you pushing. Something happens when you're with your best friend and and you get in a room and it's just the two of you and you start talking about stuff and then he just kinda like diarrhea of the mouth. Forget that there's like a microphone in front of me. Well that's the the thing is like we. We've said it before but I don't think people fully understand like we do not have a producer on this show. We are sitting in a room right now and I wish I could show you guys. There's no one sitting in here with us. No one is monitoring or audio. No one has any idea what we're saying and we release the episode every week without anyone checking. Yes if if it's good to go right right like I would say a lot of the other podcasts. They have someone listening in the whole time and someone will come in their producer will cut them off. If they're saying shit out of control we have no no when I taught me and that doesn't say a lie so back to who recently we got brought up because I was talking to this guy and if you guys remember in the other episode I was talking about a professional athlete. Guy Pretended that he came inside of me. Classic Classic Classic Kasich and accidentally. I forgot. You've tear coming down. I fucked up up accidentally. I forgot to block him from viewing my story classic rookie new and I decided decided to post the swipe up Promo on my story. That was me explaining the intimate details of our sex life and I got a text from him late night. You Mother Fucker and I'm like what you're like. Oh what about what he's like you you motherfucker and he facetime me a bunch of times and I'm like avoiding it and finally I talked to him and he's like you promised me that you were not going to expose me on your podcast hassle at talk about me. I have the text messages and I'm like it's all fun and games like no one knows. It's you don't even follow you on instagram. No one's GONNA suspect it. We went back and forth. Now here's the kicker for a minute. He was really upset annoyed fast forward to a week later he faced as times me. al-Jaali unhappy can laying on his couch and he's like. Hey what's up like. Hey what are you doing. He's like oh my friend is over. I'm like what are you guys doing. He's like oh I'm I'm playing him. Your podcast we're listening to the part where you talk about us. And I'm like you fucking piece of Shit Love Day. Oh Way they always do. I have ran into this problem. Well I was dating a guy. I don't want any muck and part of that filthy with a show that discussing shit. I do once a week and I'm like a leasing and then I come in here. Alex Kahn is agony on Emma. Everybody know everything about this guy. And then he turns around and he's upset yes and if you later. He's like obsessed obsessed upset upset to best. Why Oh yeah and I think that it's just I don't know it just interesting guys because it's like a lot of them really are wholeheartedly trying to convince convince us that like it would be the worst thing for their lives and now this guy over here is fucking playing? Mother wanted to name their when when they get a taste of it gets their heads. He's like Oh. Why don't you put that in this week? I'm like stop right or you know what people might find the interesting ors and I'm the opposite happens okay and I had this happened to you. Not that long ago where I was talking about one person and someone else freaked the fuck out of okay because they thought it was about them. Yeah so I was talking about. I was like telling a story about a friend and I said something like not that nice about her and another friend said Oh Mike God how could you say that about me. You're ruining my fucking reputation and I was like wait a second. That was not about you. That was about like a completely different way and this girl was just like how could you do this. Like you need to like. Take that out of the show. You need to take down the video like telling you to do all this stuff and I'm like it was not even about you that Oh yeah. That's really really hard because like I try to protect people by keeping some things yells. Oh yes and not using names that can also fuck him backfire. Because it's so bad people are assuming it's about me so it's like I think sometimes also says I forget like back where we started this podcast. No one was listening listening and it was again. Just the two of us in a room right and it's still just the two of us in a room and I think sometimes we forget like how many people are listening. My mom actually brought something up to me. The other day she she was like girls are doing so great so proud. But there's just one thing it just concerns mule little and I'm like what mom and she was like the two of you in that on that podcast guys. You really really talk about lying like it's like your everyday hobby like tell everyone to lie. Lie Lie Liesl you die lie lied just lie and my mom was like totally keep lying keep telling them to lie by. Just WanNa make sure that you girls don't start to believe your lies because that is when it starts to become pathological and I realize I'm sitting there with my guys and I'm like I will not not put you on and I'm starting to kind of believe right. Say I wholeheartedly. I had when I say I'd like you can trust me and I believe so you can trust me until I hear the wow just came out of our mouths so don't get mad at us all the people that are close with listening listening we love you all the good of the show and we're not using names on your fucking that are truly being exploited shit is made up. It's all made up but it's not at all not. Hello Hello fresh. I don't exactly exactly know how the fuck to cook. We don't really do much cooking. Our entire kitchen actually is completely empty except when we do get that one little delivery we love love to get from hello motherfucker frocks. We made the most delicious avocado chicken. "Other and my like but half the time that's more unhealthy than a almost want to have someone do something so horrible right or you can design yourself move on yes. It's true so the whole thing is it's like you really truly mean to break up and until you've fully have gone through the break in the morning and like moved on then you can. Maybe like come bagri because i also think that there are some couples that try to dive right back into it and say you go out one weekend. One of you is gonna get jealous. Oh you're not dating more so he can talk to another girl. You can talk to another guy and then all of a sudden one of going to feel the jealousy. I also think last point about this question is you'll possibly are also going to be giving vibes and you don't even realize it that you're not open to finding other. You're still hung up on someone that's in your life or you're still making room for them that no one else is going to be able to come in. Even if it's just a casual hook up i would. I would say that until both parties have found someone new even hook up. You can't can't do the friend thing because it's going to feel good and you're going to get comfortable again and you're going to be horny back to it if you guys have both completely moved on and found new people palm inc and the level of maturity has to dude you know there's so many times i feel like people are like we can do this. I'm meaning that you can pull something up on your phone now and it says yes. I consent to this and will be having a physical relationship with this person or no. I do not consent into this. Ain't the person either presses yes or no does a little signature and you're good to go. What the way yeah in the actual fuck is happening happening. How does this work. How does this work so. Let's set the scene yes this girl's hammered black-and-white black and white she and he's like yo press yes press right and she's like yes and he's like sign and it's like ribble and then they fuck and she doesn't remember britt or yes exactly or if she presses yes when they're hanging out netflixing chilling and then thirty minutes later decides alkaline yellow saying what if i mean is there like a countdown on this thing like three. Yes you have thirty minutes or else what there has to be some type of timeframe. This guy can fucking go grab her three years from now and fucker. You are married. You're married with a family. You're sitting there cooking pancakes for your kids and and the guy that you consented with on this app from fucking five years ago shows up and you're like oh not again why you've gotta fuck aghast. Sorry sorry sorry guys. The pancakes will be put on hold. I need to get fucked like timothy stain. Your highchair. Model kid needs to go. Give thought it didn't shoot looks at her husband. Take it away Alex High Girls. It's Big Daddy Gee all the way from sunny England loved the show. I've been listening for a few weeks and gotta say you girls are great my question for you. Both is is eating ass classified as cheating. I have a long-term girlfriend and she will not let me her ass. She just says the thought of it makes her gagging Enfield six but me I love it. It's been three years since I last eight ass and lately since listening to your podcast every female icy and I mean every female young old chunky skinny beautiful not so beautiful any race any he color. He wants tongue inside of the odd literally early in the ASS crag cheek to cheek-to-cheek okay some Brown town on his face when he leaves there yet he's into it and he wants it. Is that cheating. I'M GONNA say it is cheating but I'm also going to say like your girlfriend kind. It sounds like a prudent bitch and you should be like listen up sweetheart. Let's say I will be putting my face and that's final listen. It's not a Horny if you're cheating so like do whatever you want to do right right right. The Truth Truth is is that I think a lot of times girls get freaked out by it because they're so self conscious. The boyfriend is going to be so gross-out House this guy done all the things you can do like. Let's take a shower in the way like has he tried. I mean can this girl. Is this girl really self consciously think rub it does exactly it's one thing if he's asking her to eat his ass and she's not into baby girl. All you gotta do lay there can turn on a Netflix show putting some town on that. Ask Louis pretended if he's bothering you this much with it. Don't fucking cleaner. Show more can show don't shower for three days a massive dump and be like you want this. This is what you wanted then. Let's go come on down to Brownstown little I would do big daddy g. We had an entire up Assode dedicated to telling is how they can last longer in bed because it is an actual issue. And I understand I don't want guys to be self conscious about it because. Yes, it's knowing for girls. But this is why we have this presenting sponsor. We partnered up with his team because Roman basically guys these swipes are wipes that you wipe on your dick, right? And it allows you to last longer. It's insane. I actually tried it out might allow so I have them, and they're so like, easy and compact to you you can throw it in your amicus. I mean, you can only think about other shit like baseball right saying the goddamn pledge of allegiance while you're getting her. It's not gonna work going to work. "There are some girls. I think that obviously don't have that under. So this is what I would do because I'm a compulsive liar. Okay. So what I would do is. I would approach it and act like it happened. I got called out you're gonna say. Oh my God. Someone some random person deemed me, and they called me out. And they were like you face tune your picture so much and I liked so embarrassed. And then you're gonna stay to that friend. You're gonna be like I from now on out if you guys don't mind, I'm literally gonna send you guys like my pictures. Let me send you my picks after I face to them to make sure it's not too much. Yeah. And he didn't really give us much too. I mean, it was which is no shade to him. No Shay to him. But like maybe maybe through that we asked. All right. So they later went onto record. "Visit my Lola dot com and entered daddy. When you subscribe. Yeah. Again, guys, we're we're supporting this because yes girls, we need to keep our Shing lean need to keep our shit water base and enough with all these fucking chemicals that are giving us the good old bacterial infection because like you said Sophea, then you're out of commission. So many caring about you. You don't want your girl fucking out of commission early a thousand percent. Okay. So a lot of girls have been asking us. I mean, actually guys two guys are actually pretty up there too. About deleting pictures with your ex on Instagram. Yes. And it's like the girl actually one of the girls gave me three options that she wanted to know, which we would choose. She said number one, should I just keep all the pictures and just like embrace it too. Should I delete them or three? Should I? Keep them and just change the captions, Alex. No, I think we both agree you, delete them all delete them, all delete it. I know a lot of you guys are like, but it was like a huge part of my life were still on good terms. No one gives a shit keeping our Facebook. Right. If you're fucking shit on Facebook. Nobody wants to sit on your memories or a good time. Not this is the thing guys and girls, listen up if you are keeping pictures of your acts on Instagram the minute the opposite sex goes to your profile. There's one thing there's two things they see and they see you with a potential ex or current one. They could potentially think you're like a slime as cheater and you're just like trying to DM them, and you have an actual girlfriend or boyfriend. So that's number one. And number two. They could look at it. And know, it's your ex but be like, okay. So there clearly so not over that person to lead that showed Alie I would like make that assumption too. And the girl mentioned that she would just change the caption like, what are you gonna change the caption? Like my long lost cousin. Good old good looking into mind, stepbrothers half, others, sometimes stick my tongue down. No. I also think you, and I always talk about it. Like, you go to guys profile, and if you see him even with someone that like, look like go friend, even if it is his sister. If he doesn't like straight up say, this is my sister. I'm like, I honestly leave the pay done. Good bye Dadi gang. Officially everyone is clearing out the pictures of their acts like we said, you can keep that shit in your camera will keep it on Facebook. But it's gotta go. Oh, we have to address face tune. We talked about face. Tune last episode. If you listen up, so go listen face. Tune issue is we addressed in our pasta episode that we condone face. Tune and photo shopping for the ladies ops, Lutely, make your shit Lecue. But there is a line that needs to be drawn. When you look literally like a. Circle of smudge and just to is mouth. We're not trying to put women down what we were trying to. We're trying to help you guys out because guys noticed this shit when you go too far with it. So we had people write in and be like totally I have that one friend that face tunes. Too much. People are asking held buck. Do I tell her that she's doing it too much? And I want to say that I understand girls are very sensitive. And so it's hard to go up to your girlfriend and be like, hey, like you faced in the shit out of this thing. I know that's not your faith. I feel like I could do that with my friends. Yeah. I would straight up tell you, Alex. But you you and I walk out of a room. Like what the fuck that?.
