"So much more. My friend Thomas Dimitrov, what's up, Thomas? It is so great to hear you and thanks. It's been a while and I can't wait to connect. I mean, let's do it. I mean, you remember that time in Los Angeles? He was you and less than I were all having a drink and look at last man, right? Look at where less is today. Unbelievable. Look at last effing them picks, being where he is. He is the maverick GM in this league and I love it. He and I talk more regularly now than we probably ever have. And it's been a really enjoyable journey watching him develop and evolve man. It's really cool rich. Well, it's the maverick, I guess you're referring to is the effing of picks that right. But it's not all the picks. Clearly, they make draft choices and they're important draft choices for him to make and for him and his staff to hit on, but what are you willing to share with everybody about his general managing and his thinking that's led to tonight's banner raising Thomas? Well, look, look, it's a great point. And the way I look at it is, of course, less knows the importance of personnel draft related personnel. He also understands the importance of there are projections. It's one of the most difficult things as a general manager per acquisition. It's projecting in the NCAA into the NFL. And what he has done in his group has done is make sure that they're focusing on the people out there, the free agents that they're acquiring, pay the money for them, don't have any uncertainties about them for the most part. Know what they are and what they aren't is the acquisitions that he's made. And if some of those guys aren't necessarily completely alert in meetings, I won't go into that. They know what it is. And they know it's expect. They'll get the most out of that player. And then really focus on those mid rounds and try to make sure that you're putting the focus on those mid round, get the guys right at the front of the free agency mode. And I think they have a really, really keen approach to this. It's not just relying on the value of draft picks. It's putting the best team together. And I say this time and again. Back general manager in this league, I learned this from Bill Belichick, no question. You know your team better than anyone else. Everyone else can project less knows all fascists and his team, who knows what's best for he and coach mcvay. And I just, again, admiral in his approach. And when did you first meet him? Thomas, when did he first get on your roof? It's a great point. Lesson I ended up meeting way, way back in the early, early years of our career, I'd say, man, almost 25 years ago. And we were close. We got a long a lot from the standpoint of debt nurse and eating food. We went out the big party guys, but we had a really good interaction with a lot of people in the league. And our focus was on football as well as life in general. And we both always had an interest in trying to grow and professionally develop. And that's where our friendship grew. We ended up communicating in between those times before we even became partners at the Atlanta Falcons and to go into the falcons in less to be there as my right hand guy was really, really important at the outset. I needed the right soldiers around me and less was great with that early on in that process. Thomas Dimitrov here on the rich eisen show so week one of an NFL season for a general manager. I mean, use your work pretty much done, practice squad set, roster set. You have to massage the cap a little bit. Maybe you get someone to me. I guess I just saw the Steelers got TJ watts deal kind of redone to give him some more cap room. What is a week one for general manager mean right now? Thomas? You know what? Yes, week one's rich. I think you look at your entire roster. You look at your organization. You're really, really focused on week one and kicking it off in the right way. There's been a lot of talk out there about week one. You're hoping that your head coach as a general manager is going to be really creative with week one. And I think week one presents these teams with the opportunity to be creative. They can throw twists into their approach because there's been nothing really revealed for the most part in the pre season right. So I think that's an important thing regarding roster and rasho optimization. To me, that is vital. You need to not only see what you have in place, but you also need to continue to look out on always be in front of the curve. That's the way I've always perceived it. And I'm sharing this situation last night. He looks at what is roster is. He looks at what may be coming up as far as contracts, of course, he's got his staff out on the road, already starting their college looks. And he starts putting his mind as a general manager. I'm talking about less to see what is out there and what direction he's going to go to fill those ostensible needs down the road with this group. We won pressure laden for sure. But you need to kick it off. It's like it's like just putting your feet into it, all the dipping your toes into it. Once that starts, you get into a roll. The man, it is pressure laden coming into the first game. And what an off season it was. I mean, we were just talking about it, Thomas in the first hour that this is going to be the best NFL season ever because that March where we saw retirements and un retirements, and we saw top notch a list players on the move at quarterback, wide receiver, and Bobby Wagner being the last, I guess, move of March. Now he's between Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, which of the march moments,

"But how active is Clemson on that front right now? Can you share with us? Oh man, I have no idea. I leave that up to the people that are involved, man. We've been a charter member of the ACC for a long time. We've got a great league. Yes, there's some complications. There are some there are some challenges. But again, I think ultimately it's going to all be driven by a group of people that eventually will get in a room together and put all feelings aside and do what's best for college football. I think ultimately we'll get there. And I think where we are right now is probably going to be very different in a couple of years. And we'll probably be looking back at today and go, huh, well, I thought this was going to happen and it didn't. So I don't know about all that stuff. I just know that my job is to have our team ready and to make sure that we have a program that is a model program in college football. And that's what we're going to continue to do, whether we're in the ACC, the SEC, the Big Ten, the big 12, the pack, whatever the new world college football league, I have no idea, man, we're going to constant Clemson is a special place and that will always be a special place. And it will always be one of those programs that's going to have a seat at the table. Do you like the 12 team playoff idea that was forwarded in apparently approved? Do you like that, coach? Well, I mean, you know, I'm a traditional college guy and I'll be honest with you. I like the VCS. I thought that was just fine. And four was just fine. You like the computers? Do you like the computers and the slide rule and all those? You like that? I couldn't figure it out. I just think that well, I think with the governance structure, that's one of the reasons why I think there needs to be a new governance structure because having a tournament with a 131 teams for football because football is really not a tournament sport and I think it's it waters it down and that's another reason why I think it's expansion is what we want than there has to be some change there. The NFL has a reason why they have 32 teams. And so it is what it is people want that and there are some consequences that will come with that. I think it's going to be great. People love college football. And people think that more is better. And maybe that will be the case in a lot of people can debate. But there will be some consequences with that when it comes to maybe some in season type of things. But I'm excited about it and because again, we all knew this was coming. So the sooner the better. Because then we can move on and focus on what we got to do to manage getting our teams ready and what's the calendar going to look like? How do we prepare all those things? Because there will be a lot of change that will come with a 12th team playoff. So it will certainly create more access for more teams. But. We'll be ready and will and here to however it shakes out. Before it lets you 12 or 8 or 16 or whatever. Before I let you go, do you have a quarterback competition maybe on your hands and your current? We got a left tackle competition or receiver competition, a running back competition, a quarterback competition. I mean, we've got three 5 star quarterbacks in our room. And DJ has earned the right to be the starter without question and but we got cade has demonstrated that man he can he can win for us based on what we've seen in practice and then we finally got a chance to get a little bit of game experience, but he's certainly proven that, hey, he deserves the opportunity to play. Within the flow of the game or season as we go and so nobody has a lifetime contract. In college football, man, you got to show up every week and you got to you got to go prove it and earn it and I don't think we're any different than a lot of places out there. But we're very fortunate man. We've got really good players. DJ is a very talented young man and did a lot of good things last week, especially in the second half and then to be able to get Kate in there was a blessing too. So hopefully we can get hunter Johnson some opportunity as well. He's another very talented player. So we've got a good situation and we certainly have competition in every position, which I think makes us a team that has an opportunity to compete for this league. And last one for you, coach. I have not seen a quarterback coming to the league like Trevor Lawrence and have a set of circumstances around him in his first year quite like what Trevor Lawrence went through last year. Have you spoken with him? And connected with him about what happened last year and how this year, I mean, talk about a fresh start, my goodness. I don't even know how you can evaluate it off of that first season. Quite frankly. Of course. Yeah, of course. I've seen him talk to him and many times. During the season last year after the season, this preseason, I mean, he's in a great place. No matter what happens, we all learn and grow from the good and the bad. Sometimes you learn more from the bad and the good. But he's in a good place and man he loves where they are and I don't have any doubt that he's got a better days ahead. We've both individually and then also with their team there in Jacksonville. So I'm excited to see him get back at it and he's excited and just like I said he's grown a lot and learned a lot again good and bad and he'll build on that. Coach, thanks for the time. Greatly appreciate it. Let's connect down the line if you don't mind throughout the season. Your Clemson tigers have well positioned after one week. It's early on, but I appreciate the sense. The two cents figuratively and then congratulations on your dollars and cents in your long-term contract for your family. I appreciate it. Thank you so much. Take care. That's dabo swinney, the head coach of Clemson football here on the rich eisen show. Let's take a break and when we come back, we return to the world of professional football Thomas de mitrov, who is assistant GM if I'm not mistaken once upon a time his name less need. Who is raising about her tonight? Lots to talk about with TD formerly of the ATL when we come back.

"Today's Bill Belichick press conference moment. We prefer to win. Obviously, his first name, without being familiar with the style. This is a couple days of practice, which lasted you're going to put in particular get ready for that. Whatever we think is whatever we think we need. Come on, people. By the way, birds are really loud. Really lost. It's like almost a Hitchcock movie. I think it's really hot and humid down. They have kind of a heat wave going like we've got one here. Dude, I mean, 100° in Los Angeles for a week plus. It's tough to beat. That's a high bar. I mean, one O 9 of my crib. Dude, not fun. So there you go. That's Bill. Bill even talked about it's hot down here in Miami. I did. He's like, welcome to Florida. Some loud birds, man. What is going on there? What are the birds doing down there? As Brian fellows would say, that bird sounds crazy. I'm prime fellows. No, that's not that. Birds sound like they're electrified. So we're all set for that dolphins patriots matchup week one. "Yeah, yeah. You know how he is about me? Can we all do? And I love him to death about it, but well, but Shannon, I get in trouble with Tennessee fans because they think I'm too hard on them. I'm not too hard on them. I just try and I get same thing with Alabama. But I think my predictions on Alabama, I've been I've been called everything under the sun, but I think the 6 national championships under Sabin and the three other appearances in the title game pretty well justify me picking them almost every year to win it. Paul I'll remind you of something. I said to you, spend about four years ago. But I remember saying something to you because you were sort of apologizing for your book about the SEC and I went, hey, Paul, you need to stop doing that because your book is going to stand the test of time. It will. And I want to tell you that, but I'll make a statement here. And I tell you one, I'll call you in 7 years. I'll call you before then, but in 7 years, I'm going to go ahead and make a prediction. Alabama under Nick Saban is going to win in the next ten years with his contract 5 national titles. Okay? And it's going to happen because all the people that are out there wanting to play at the highest level now know Nick Saban's going to be there. That's why we're getting the recruits. The depth chart at all. I think a lot of people thought the opposite of that was going to be true Shannon. But I was talking, it wasn't a player, but I was talking to a father of a player. About that. And I said that too. I mean, the reason why I feel comfortable with what you're saying is that I covered Bryant's end and recruiting caught up to him a little bit, but the players that played for him at the end are still talking about it because it was so memorable to be part and I think as this thing starts to compress and with each year it will, there is a desire to want to be part of history and I mean, we're watching it every night with Serena Williams. Who expected that to be the lead sports story in the country this week? Yeah, and I agree with you. I think history dictates a degree of wanting to be a part of that history, whether you're a fan and you're going to attend a game or whether or not some individual that can participate in that history, you want to be at the top of that history. And their players and dads talking right now in every living room across America and that data is looking at sun and sun. You're going to have an opportunity here like no other time in your history. And now is that time for you to do it. And that's one of the play to Alabama pollen. That's why Alabama will continue to win. And I'm going to stick with my prediction and say when we win at least 5 more titles, including this year. Well, Shannon I agree with you about this issue. I need to think about the 5 overall, but yeah, again, he's won what 6 out of the last 14. Is that correct? I think there are 13. I can't remember every other year. But the teams is about to have Paul. And I'm telling you, I keep what we're recruiting big time. The teams were about to have are going to be some of the best teams in the history of football. Well, I mean, Shannon, I'm not arguing. I'm just kind of proposing you have a right to argue. The one thing the one thing I wonder about, though, and we will know this pretty soon, is I think for the first time since he's been there, there are more than one legitimate contender. And I say that because I think early on, it was less miles. And urban Meyer. He had two at one time, but you somewhat knew less miles would not hold up. And then urban Meyer flamed out. And then who was it after that? It really, I don't think he had, I don't think he had a threat. Dabo swinney was that was when he was the guy that did end. Yeah, but within the SEC, I think within the SEC he has, he has a couple of serious threats. You know what? I'll take this. He frees over there, did a decent job. He did. And then he got in trouble, but other than that, no, I agree, but you know by really competing. I think at this moment in time, I think Kirby smart, we understand. He's a serious threat every year. The real question I have is is Jimbo Fisher going to wreak havoc. And if he turns out to recap, then I think that makes it more difficult. If he doesn't, then Sabin has really knocked off another one. You don't want to say something for you, Paul, real quick here. You've mentioned last miles and just as a reminder to you. And I've got a great memory about football. You were the one guy that predicted the last miles downfall and other people were looking at you like you were nuts on TV. And I

"Has always planned to speak performance. I don't know if they played their peak performance or not, but we matched up pretty good. People have talked to the beginning that we're not physical and nothing like that. We all have a number of 6 yards to ensure that energy can be physical. I don't know. I can't judge how good they are. They're not as good as the team who plays the best. But they really might be the best team in the country. I don't know that, but they weren't that night. Coachella was starting to sound like one of these movies where, you know, they have a famous like a heavyweight championship of the world. And one guy loses and he's in the emergency room. With two black eyes and a broken nose, but he said, you should have seen the other guy. Oh, you lost the game. Saban's not worried about you anymore. Quit talking already, okay? Curb street. Who was on the call for that game. We'll see if he agrees with Coachella. Maybe he will. John, you bacon. Michigan. Extraordinaire. Jim Don and former Georgia coach will be with us from talking about the dogs. Melissa Andrea and the great Isiah spiller from Texas a and M let's get to your phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 Philip is first up from Memphis, Tennessee. Hello Paul. Philip, how are you? I'm hanging in there for an old man doing my best. I want to talk about if you indulge me some calls, you've got two days ago. I couldn't listen to the show alive, you'll recall, the name of our crew over here is the old farts. Right. Tape record your program every day. And I listened to it at night when I'm in court and got home after a bruising day of mental gymnastics and I listened to some guys that claimed to be Alabama fans who wanted one wanted to get rid of Sabin and replacing with a coach who's lost three games already this year. Dabo swinney and Paul, I did a little research, I don't think that guys on Alabama fan at all. He sounds like somebody that wants to stir up a little trouble. He said, his last year at almana was 97, that's the case. The last football coach that he saw with Mike do both. Do both have not very good. She was not a very good record. First year was four and 7, I think. He finished four and 8 for his four years against our three biggest rivals, never did beat Tennessee. And so that guy should understand what it's like to have a poor coach at Alabama. Yet he wants to get rid of the greatest coach in history and replacing him with a guy who was not going to the playoffs this year who's now going to be two years out of the national championship. I don't know when Davos is going to come back and regale the gore that he had previously, but you'll recall the 2016 game he wouldn't have won that championship without resort to illegal pick plays, but that's 5 years ago. We'll forget about that. But Paul, my gripe is that anybody can call the program and claim to be an all animal fan. And then my most outrageous claim imaginable applaud you for having an open mic and letting people speak their piece, you don't know who they are and this called in May have been an albino fan. May have graduated from Alabama as he said, but if he really is an Albanian fan, it's even more deplorable that he would be wanting to get rid of Nick Saban. He very well may be and good for him if he is, but that doesn't make him right just because you're in Alabama graduate. It does not. Totally agree with you. But on another subject, Paul, Freud, I'm going to have to say congratulations on your new coach at Tennessee. He looks like he's got the right stuff. He does look very good, and I agree with you. And Philip, thank you. And by the way, I want to correct myself, I'm surprised Phillip didn't correct me when we were talking about the great Alabama teams, a great defensive team I mentioned in the 79 Alabama team. It's actually the 78 team that had the famous goal line stand. The game was January 1st, 1979, but pardon me for not remembering well from 41 years ago or 42 or whatever it is. Let's check in with John who is in Louisville. Hello, John. Hey Paul and I'm not at Alabama fan. So we'll get that out of the way. But I think there is good to see here. I think nix of plant by your producers to ratchet up the anger and vitriol. He certainly has triggered the mean girls and just crazy thoughts that came out of his mouth. Particularly that besides the wheels coming off Alabama that junior and high school would save next job and that a defensive coordinator was his main recruiter. Kind of bizarre talk by him. But yeah, yeah. I mean, when you consider the quarterbacks at Alabama's head. And I don't really know. I mean, I've seen game film of arch Manning. I've seen him on TV. Good for him. But a few of the university of Alabama, you're not planning your future around a high school football player, any player who doesn't matter. Here's my thought on CFP. I'm actually getting a little more credible by the week, not that it is totally credible. But I like the first four, and frankly, I still think they're giving a participation award or trophy too, Cincinnati. I would like to see them issue and you have them move up and put number 8 or 7 Oklahoma. And I mean, it's going to be an exciting month. A lot of teams, it's an elimination game coming up, be it MSU assume Michigan or Alabama. But here's my thought on Michigan. I did see the game, Michigan did lose Michigan did accomplish gained a 160 more yards in Michigan did have a touchdown call back that they were Big Ten amid it was a mistake. So I think they're looking at that game is somewhat even and then they looked at last week where Michigan gave up less than 200 yards to its opponent. And I think, frankly, I don't mean to contradict everything I've already said, but I think Michigan's a better team, but with the game so recent, you just make you just make yourself look silly, knowing that everyone's playing each other over the next few weeks. Jim is up next. You know, I'm gonna tell you something. I'm just shooting straight as I know the deal and that's what I'm doing. Sometimes you pull the trigger down pull the trigger near fast enough on these scholars, I could have listened to Philip from Memphis to another 30 or 40 minutes. I mean, that was a tremendous opening title Paul and it shall beat the bit more and John, you just had our own and of course Mitch and I can name about 5 miles where I'm not gonna call them all right, but they are what they are. It is what it is. But I wish you let that guy talk another 5 or ten minutes. I mean, that was a tremendous electric and compelling postcard to get the show quite though. It was..

"Well, spinning this forward Brody, you recently made the case that LSU's next head coach actually should be able to turn this program around pretty quickly. So why is that? Yeah, I think at the end of the day, three straight head coaches that LSU have won national championships. And that is not common at all. And quite frankly, the one thing that I think many coaches would argue makes all see one of the 5 best jobs in the country is that you are in a very talent rich state that I believe it's number one in the highest talent per capita. And you have no direct competition in state. You are the flagship school that should as long as you don't mess up. Land every single major player. Alabama have Alabama and auburn fighting, or Texas, you have 5 major schools competing. Florida same thing. Louisiana, yeah, sure bam is gonna win a few of them or whatever. But overall, you have that access. And then you look at the current roster, there is a lot a lot a lot of talent there. The kind of talent that people like me were saying, they should have won ten games this season. Their freshman and sophomore classes right now are really, really good. They're full of guys who ask freshmen and sophomores are breaking into stars from receiver K Shawn but who was going to be a belittle winner before he heard his ankle just last week. Or all American corner Eli Rick's or freak defensive tackle freshman mason Smith. There are so many guys here that coaches would be salivating to come coach. So I think this is a job that coaches will be very hard trying to fight for. And I think it's a job that very quickly can get back on track. There are things that absolutely need to be fixed. They're offensive line is in really deep years long damage. But overall, there is a really strong infrastructure here that this should be a top 20 team at next season. There have been a lot of rumors, of course, swirling about who that next head coach might be. What are you hearing? Of course. I think you have to start with the fact that Woodward the athletic director has a history of being maybe the biggest game hunter in college athletics. He's the guy who got Chris Peterson from Boise state to go to Washington when no one thought Peterson was ever going to leave Boise. Or he's the guy who got Jimbo Fisher to leave a national title team at Florida state to coach a Texas a and M and he is the guy who actually just recently got national title winning women's basketball coach Kim mokey to leave Baylor for LSU, which was shocking. You know, he is a big game hunter and I don't think that's gonna be different here. My colleague, Bruce Feldman reported. He's even gonna make dabo swinney at Clemson say no. You know, you're James Franklin's at Penn State. You're melt Tucker at Michigan state who has less success, but if somebody really quickly rising in the field who also has history with Nick Saban and history with Kirby smart, which helps anyone's case, you have to at least mention lane kiffin at all miss. He is somebody who gets thrown around quite a bit, and it would be a very juicy storyline although I don't know if it will happen. And then you go down the list though and there's guys who are still would be home runs to most people. You know, Billy Napier at Louisiana is a guy who has been one of the hottest up and coming names and coaching for three years now and has turned down multiple SEC jobs these last few years because he's kind of waiting for that perfect thing. So I think there are tears to this where he's gonna go for his biggest fish, but I think there are other plans there where it's, hey, this guy still would be a hot commodity. So I have a feeling they're gonna land someone pretty big name. It's still too early to tell who. And circling back to Ed O's Ron. What comes next for him? Does the nature of his ouster mean that he's unlikely to coach college football again or do you expect that he'll be back to coaching relatively soon? He has said that he's actually said twice this week already. He's Adam and he will take next year off. You will enjoy things. I'm not sure if you will look into television or something like that, but he will not be coaching next year. But after that, my gut tells me he will be coached again. The tricky thing I don't know the answer to is will he go be taking a head coaching job at, you know, a slightly smaller program, or will he go back to his roots for lack of a better word and go be the top lieutenant again at a major program? Because I'm sure a lot of teams would love to have him there. Well, I guess a $17 million golden parachute gives him some options. Absolute. All right, brother, well, thanks so much for joining us today and breaking all this down. Absolutely, thanks for having me everyone. "Saw bryce young. And that dynamic. Alabama offense on saturday lights out. But what about some of the other star quarterbacks in college football you're gonna do a little progress here and having some fun taking a look at some of the other big names across the board we'll start with mcelroy mcelroy breakdown. Cj drought. What did you see there. I thought he'd displayed a really quick release very accurate with the football especially on the underneath. I thought they got away there in the second quarter for some of the things he was comfortable with. He threw that interception and he looked a little bit rattled. But i actually loved the way he bounced back from. That momentary rattled this because there was a moment where it could have gone sideways. You minnesota it started to get all this momentum and he really wasn't seeing the field all that well well then you fast forward 'til after halftime they go right down the field and he a totally different player from that point forward so i was really proud of how he bounced back. He's going to be a really good player in time. One of the names we all had is on. Dj younger lay down at clemson. Obviously was a defensive struggle. What's your progress report. There does a dj had his struggles. Man started up front. Obviously with the office of lying. They could not block georgia's deepest front. But when you get beyond that even. Dj's coach dabo swinney said after the game that it took dj. Probably two and a half quarters just to get settled in greg until you better anybody. You can't take that amount of time to get settled in a game of that magnitude against an opponent like georgia. So once he gets settled you know he started. Throw the ball and rhythm but it was bigger than the office of line. He wasn't making the right reasons. He wasn't getting them out of bad situations and his receivers to they didn't help them out that pig. Six was not on dj. It was actually on receiver. Who should have broke across the the deepest so ball didn't get picked. Yeah they gotta do a lot of things to make life easier for deejays. They got a block. They got to create a little more separation. They gotta be more consistent with the timing of the passing game so yes he didn't play well but like you said does that was not all on. Dj at this point. Yeah by the way according to stats and info. He was pressured on thirty six percent of his drawbacks. That is not good all right. Let's take a look. Nick and one of the hot on names coming in sam. How will everybody was in love with when you look at that. Greg wants his progress report from that week. One action. well. I thought it was disappointing but then again kind of back to what we're talking about. Dj illegally. you can't play quarterback by yourself and there was really not a lot of help. That sam howell had his disposal especially in the front man. It was amazing to watch. Virginia tech consistently dent the pocket consistently make him feel uncomfortable with their pass russia to we all know that he lost his top. Two ball carriers. We all know that he lost his top two wide receivers off last year's team. It was painfully obvious that there had not been the same type of chemistry created between him and the guys that he was out there with last year so hopefully they can get that addressed quickly does because if they don't it could be an extremely disappointing year in chapel hill for that powerful offense. Yeah greg i'll tell you was sam. How had wonderful fantastic supporting cast around him a year ago and they made him better now. He's in the position where everyone's young they don't have as much experience and now he has to make everyone around him better. Hopefully he'll be able to do that. Moving forward says you can't play quarterback in oklahoma without being implied that you're going to be heisman candidate. We all thought that for spencer rattler. What's your progress. Report on spencer. After one week. Wow i tell you i was really surprised. That he threw there in the sessions that he did in this game because a year ago. Don't forget he was young. I your starter. So lincoln riley was. I think handling him with canada white gloves. It's trying to ease them into the game plan and texas game. he plays so bad that he was pulled. He was bench with back in the game eventually and seemed to turn the corner but now this gambling is two lane here. He is making the same mistakes throwing interceptions it gives. Oh mickey think what is he looking at what what does he. What does he see. So that's not what you expect from comes into the twenty twenty one season as the heisman favorite. Maybe he can get out of his system now and he could play better moving forward last up on our list. One of the best stories from the weekend was mackenzie milton coming in for florida state and helping lead them on an eighteen point comeback greg. What were your thoughts on this one. It was amazing to see him on the field first and foremost but how about we just evaluate the play and take what wasn't incredible story out of the picture. Y'all he was accurate he was poised. He made great decisions. They were a few moments in that game. Down the stretch where it could have gone off the rails in favor of notre dame however mckenzie made the smart play. He made the correct play in order to make a bad play. Sometimes there were so bad. Plays miss snaps. Aaron snaps guys busting protections plays not working. He could've made a lot of bad plays worse and he didn't he was poised. He made great decisions and he gave his team a chance. So it's going to be fascinating guys to see or not they go with jordan travis the talented youngster or mackenzie milton from this point. Forward in the season mostly positive progress reports from you guys. Everybody's happy to take these to their parents. Alright wussy wrapping everything up. Obviously it's time now for this week's.

"We bet all right. Thank you for your patience. Let's get to it what we are talking about here. Today are college football teams worthy enough to be discussed. If we're being completely honest now granted is about a hundred thirty relevant teams relevant schools in have football organizations But i'm actually going to talk about nine years. That covers about thirty five teams. In all so sense you can look at this as being top thirty five teams with the highest chances of making it to the chip all right. Now i'm gonna start from the bottom. You know like start from the bottom you skip ahead to go find out who the top which are probably obvious. But i'm gonna give you a little hint. I was going on He's not gonna tell you what tears they are in. And what specific order. But it's going to give you an idea of where we're calling this all right. So when asked last month about the possibility of a twelve team. College football playoff coach. Dabo swinney of the clemson tigers was blunt in his disposal. A little too blind for me but he said our team isn't for it they don't want to play more games and to be honest with you. I don't know if there's twelve teams good enough who dabble not ask some goods right there man just cause you play the same teams all the time in you. Beat them and they're known to be good team. Don't mean that you can't get caught by some of these other teams. Look i played on before you know. There was a little bit of a struggle with teams. You expected to beat. That could be the case but he says he doesn't know if there's twelve good enough how many are there. Well certainly more than current fourteen field That goes to the playoffs. Eight to be specific day. Most people are discussing those eight clemson alabama oklahoma ohio state georgia notre dame take zane and texas entered the season with at least ten percent chance to reach the playoffs to allstate's playoff predictor. Let's give more specific. You have texas am at twenty two percent notre dame. It's when he three georgia at twenty five percent. Ohio state fifty nine percent oklahoma. Sixty six percent alabama seventy two percent clemson seventy eight percent so that's why i dabbled smelling himself. They had the highest percentage of making it to the playoffs right now. The next artistic is will pass the playoffs. What is there the championship so what. It was the championship national championship Best chance to look like well. Yeah it takes aim at three percent how we got to present. Though george four percent ohio state at thirteen percent oklahoma at eighteen percent alabama. It's seven percent and clinton at twenty eight percent. Okay so there's the teams that you should expect some more at the top in a certain category but again we're not doing this as tier one tier two tier three now. These tears are a little bit more descriptive of what we need to expect from these teams that are involved any right art. So what is the title of the ninth tier. It is titled. So you're saying there's a chance that's tear here these teams you could say have a chance. Those teams are louisiana raging cages. Ucf nights appelation state mountaineers. Cincinnati is the group of five best hope at a playoff contender I know that's not who i mentioned here. But we're discussing them okay They're the best hope. And while even that is a long shot. Scenario is not the only one in addition to the talent was separated. These group of five teen from the others below is that there's at least one statement game on their schedule that would help limit Legitimized their case. Okay what if they beat in. Acc champ along the way or a big twelve champ. Yes it's a stretch but louisiana opens the season at texas in while. Espn's fbi gives the rain caters only eleven percent chance to win. They did pull off the upset and ran the table and takes his win the big twelve. The committee might have to you know. Pay them some attention. Okay like the happens. Got pay them. Switching louisiana would also have a win over would would likely be a ranked appalachian state team app. State has done college football before the michigan. But this time it needs to win at miami on september eleventh. Espn's fbi cues mountaineers. A twenty point five percent chance to get it done which is higher than louisiana versus texas. So that says something i mean. It is michigan offense. But hey there's a chance if that happens along with in october. Twelve win at louisiana. Follow by a home win against costa carolina. Yes i know. It's a little bit of long chain there but they would be in the hunt for a new year's six bogue if miami were you know to pull off its own stunner in win the acc. Well it will be able to be another historic win for the mountaineers and an interesting decision discussion in the comedian meeting room is what are they going to do about that. And they want to come to the ucf. They could also impressed. The selection committee with a friday night win at louisville But it won't carry much weight if the cardinals aren't ranked the bigger winwood more ugly. The cincinnati on october sixteenth. The more probable in result with that though would be elimination of the acc in the playoffs entirely. So there's a couple of different ways that that would have to go in order for it to work out for them really. All three teams is a couple of different levels. That have to be. I guess graduated in order for them to make it to where they're trying to go all right. My next year up. We have the tier called spoiler alert. Who falls under spoiler alert. Will you have your highly drafted nor western wildcats than we have virginia. -tic hokies pittsburgh. Panthers ole miss rebels in auburn tigers programs. That aren't playoff material right now but are still disciplined and talented enough to derail team. Okay northwestern coach pat returns only eight starters the fewest in the big team. But espn's fbi still gives the wildcats better than fifty percent chance to win every game except the trips to michigan and wisconsin..

"That is that is a great story. Hey thank you very much for the call. You'd be well. Nick is up next. Hey nick thanks good afternoon. Hey paul how are we are doing great so let me give you my my reasoning. Why now alabama's gonna indeed get richer because now dabo sweeney will be alabama's net coach. When nick sabin retires. And let me tell you why okay In in i l. has changed the game. Clemson will get left behind. They just don't have the money that means they're recruiting. We'll go down. Expansions made them even more irrelevent. Dabo swinney still got an ego. And then last week alabama will be backed up the brinks truck for dabo sweeney and and it will happen and that's probably all because of this expansion it in i l. It's been the lynch pin that will make this happen. I mean this When when you say that they don't have the money What specifically you mean by that. Yes so you know what. I see the money what i mean by. That is total revenues from sports endowment. Okay population base of south carolina. I mean all the macro elements that go into you know quote unquote money runs. Interest doesn't have it in in alabama. It's gonna get exceptionally richard from this In in in now. I never thought dabbagh was gonna go to obama before just thought you know but now all that's changed in it's inevitable. Well i've i've always taught a couple of things about the transition From from sabin. And you win. It happens and what i mean by that is if nick saban leaves early earlier than expected his influence will be felt and you know would he recommend davos we now if he stays long and it's not as swift a transition that i think it becomes a much more of a of an open question if you watch the abo- in alabama it is like looking at the stock market. I mean there were three years ago. It looked like he would be automatic and then he acted like he didn't want the job and he turns people off and now i think it's a little more up in the air but there's until until you until we know the date. It's really hard to guess. But i agree with part of what you said about clemson. No i i don't think clemson is a sure bet to remain a national power For as long as they think they're going to be one no one hundred percent you don't wanna to follow the man but when you've got two titles liked davos and you're from alabama you can follow the man. I agree with you on that but thanks for calling the that. That is a parlor game. That has been going on for a couple of years. And i think it will continue to go on. But there are a lot of elements involved in picking the coach and the timing of it is usually the most critical. I've watched it a couple of times. Even in alabama and i'm not sure sabin was a little easier to guess because you know his name came up even Of the coach being let go but prior to that it can be it can be challenging because it the state of the program is always the key and does anyone know what the state of the program is going to be with. Nick sabin leaves. If he had left this year it would be one thing if he leaves three years or five years or seven years. Anyway we're up against a break. We'll talk about the state of georgia program coming up in a minute. It received a jarring news bulletin yesterday. One of its top coaches moving away for the time being. We'll get into that and look ahead to the clemson.

"Joy with the news on news. This is the heard line news so the costs the ball playoff is likely to expand twelve teams in the near future. Dabo swinney said this week that he's not a fan of adding more teams to the mix but mississippi state coach mike leach things they should have even more. It's never enough. But i'll tell you what i You know dr keenum. Our president is that committee. So i know they're in good hands and so i think that parts outstanding i think twelve teams as a huge step in the right direction. I personally would like to see sixty four thousand four minute out pretty easily. I don't think there needs to be anybody. That's three and nine. I i would say this though. If you as long as you eliminate all the conference games in the first game of the year you just go into conference play then. I go twenty four because one hundred and thirty teams so there's always i mean even in the ap top twenty five right. I would never problem that if you gave the top four byes so the fifth place team faces twenty four and that would make it more even competition throughout the playoffs so we wouldn't blow the only issue with expanding to all these. You know layers of playoffs. You're adding more games and students so some of these students are trying to go to the league. So you're going to have more and more guys sitting out especially if they're on teams where you know. They don't feel like they're gonna make deep into the playoffs. So i've i've said this to athletic directors. I know i would take away all out of conference games. Just do conference and then play off the problem being. This is why it doesn't work because you need seven home games to make the revenue to pay for your men's basketball women's basketball men's baseball women's swimming. All these all these programs they need you know panera bread state so they can fill their stadium and pay the bills for all the non revenue sport. Yeah i mean the way that the the sport is set up. It's going to be difficult to do that. that's why they can't expand that much. But i do think it's obscene. Playoff is it. It feels better because to davos point. Even though i don't agree you don't wanna have a ton of blowouts. You don't wanna have teams. Don't really feel like they belong there but it's always felt a little unfair a little like you know a club that you can't get into and there's always teams are like well. They're undefeated gogo not in the big enough conference. They didn't play enough good teams and it's like well the one we playing for like can we hit something of value. Like what is you have to reward teams that have big accomplishments and i think if you expand the playoffs to that number of twelve. There's going to be less of that arguing now. I still think seems aren't gonna beat the better teams. Maybe have one loss. That's what now we'll get to test that theory which we didn't get to do before college. Football has a quality issue. There's too many crap games. but now it's a runaway freight train to pay for all the non revenue sports. You have to have seven home. Football games meaning washington has to play. You know utah's roast beef tack that's the reality of but there's really no way. Revenue is to fix that but where the revenue. That's right so. I would be expanding the playoff and going right in the conference play and you gotta play twelve conference games or ten in the five guaranteed home but then you for a lot of these programs. The oregon state football like what i covered. They need that extra home game. Yeah because they're not they're stadiums not that big so it's fine for ohio state which sells it out. But this is why. I've always had with college sports. You should have football men's and women's basketball men's and women's soccer men's and women's Like soft pitch and baseball and then a bunch of olympic sports. Which because i think the olympics are good for the country. It's great promotion if you know. Cincinnati bearcats have the number one shot. Put her in the world or usc swimmer but the fact that some of these schools have forty sports in thirty six hemorrhage money. It's a runaway for that's why teams need that seventh home game. You wouldn't because men's and women's basketball men's always make money the women's get close. Or in some instances make it and women's and men's and women's baseball. The budgets aren't big enough so it's not a big loser and then again i also think you should be able to a have a delicacy. If you're in the northeast you get. If you're in the west you get water polo. If you're sending its regional here in the south you get gulf but these athletic departments now are a big house of cards and yet if you got exposed during kobe kobe. But they're probably not going to change that though. So lebron has become the first active nba player to reach one billion dollars in career earnings. According to sport echo dot com he passed the one billion mark. Thanks to a split between seven hundred million earnings off the court and three hundred and thirty million in. Nba salary his closest comps among active players. Kevin durant with five hundred. Eighty million and steph curry with four hundred and thirty million michael jordan. Also hit the one billion mark but he did not hit that until he retired from the league so brian is now a one billion dollar man. It's not gonna end. They're like no any won't he. I do think that now. With the added revenue streams that players have the ability to work in move in different businesses back benchers and productions and south korea's production company has a production company. And what they're going to get into after the league as well. They'll be more of this. But i i do think that it is. It is a great story that lebron who's been the face of league for how long now is now a million dollar man and he's not playing. Yeah i mean magic. Johnson's probably in that ballpark. I mean the reality if your the best messy is we'll make close to a billion dollars in earnings if massey. Why can't lebron. I mean the reality is that's the new benchmark if you are the best player in the nba especially nba because a shoot heels. You should be in the in the seven hundred million and up that that's a reasonable compensation. Nfl pry closer to fifty. Just because you careers. Don't last as long. You don't have shoe deals. I think we'll be interesting though what will happen with the nfl. Because even though patrick mahomes contract isn't as clear as that five hundred million dollar mark like that's what it is but there's a bunch of things have to happen for in order to make that five hundred million with endorsements and longevity. Now i mean imagine if mahomes plays until brady oh he'll be over six seven hundred million with endorsements on the side and yeah i think it will continue to trend in this direction. across all the major sports so janas just want us first championship. They're having the bucks parade right now by the way whoever's driving Parade slowdown fly through the growl. Like enjoy the moment anyway. They're celebrating but he kicked things off yesterday with stop at chick-fil-a to get a fifty piece of chicken and honor of his fifty point performance in game six and he went on instagram. Yes so do not have please a fifty piece mac minis fifty exactly not fifty one forty nine chicken me these yes. Fifty and Let me have a large drink. No ice have sprite. Half lemonade sauces. "It's been pretty special and do it with such grace and such humility and with the brightest of the brightest of the brightest lights in unbelievable scrutiny. In what these kids go through today is so different than when we were coming up in. The scrutiny is unbelievable. But there's never been a guy more prepared trevor. He's been dealing with this as the ninth grade when he won. The job is a fourteen year old at carville chagrined program and he beat out a senior quarterback a really talented player. Who by the way was the starting tight end in alabama this year. Okay but he had been a quarterback up until trevor made him a tiny in history. He drafted this year as well back. He was at his wedding but just the expectations the scrutiny social media the then you get into the several sevens the elite eleven's. You're supposed to win every week and all that and then you come to clemson. You're supposed to win. The job is supposed to go to a national championship. You're supposed to do this this this and you know supposed to be the number one east been dealing with this stuff forever. But guess what that's his nor that's that's what he's used to. That's normal to him But the beautiful thing about him is. He's not he's not driven by that stuff. He is a very s. Why fit our program very well because he's a very inside out person. He's he's strong in his fate. Incredibly strong in his faith He's driven by that. He's grounded by that man that has served him well and will continue to serve him. Well you know coach. What kind of special quality does trevor lawrence have when it comes to that ability to raise the level of his game his teammates. You watch steph curry. Shoot the ball. Is you just go. Wow by a kiss his just just to sit there and watch this guy. Shoot a basketball. Well that's how you feel when you watch. Trevor throw football when you get to see him live and you get to see him move. You just go. Wow i mean it's just it's just different. He's a he's a face of a franchise. I think trevor can be an international superstar. Football players at become international superstars Adding part of the part of that is just you know we all wear helmets and uniforms in you know you kinda get identified by that and then you take helmets often. You know you become a normal person. Sometimes you blend in. Trevor doesn't blend in In any regard..

"But i don't think we'll have a year like this ever again. It used to be member. 'member the big discussion christian. Mccaffrey didn't play bogeying now. This is a whole different conversation with these guys play in a year. So you never know what the scouting world challenge facing. It changes from year to year. But definitely this year a very unique challenge as you try and stack these prospects. We are headed inside the body shop. Today we are going to bring raider nation into the move the sticks bodyshop to see if we can't fix this engine and fix this vehicle here. That is the las vegas raiders and buck. I feel like there's already been some some work done on this car offensive line. The overhaul has begun here. When you look at some of these changes yet. James those significant you talk about the removal of three veterans from an office of line that i believe might have been the best unit on the team as though now you have to think about repaying the office a lot while also devoted your time and attention to the defense because this defense has been bad and they need upgrades up at linebacker safety corner anything defense. They can take it. They need to upgrade the divas of unit with a new defense coordinator. Gus bradley coming up now along with those changes the offensive line. They really like andrei james. "320 to Thursday. It is 7:21 Sunday morning the final day of the NFL regular season going to be kind of a crazy day. We'll find out who makes the playoffs in the NFL going to be very interesting. I'm excited to watch the Buffalo Bills play the Miami Dolphins. I'm really hankering to watch Daniel Jones and the Giants play. I want to see how he does. Today's episode is very short. I'm not going to hold you here too long. I really just want to talk about college football will talk about college football playoff who won who lost and we'll talk about Georgia Cincinnati at the very end. I want to start today by talking about this though on New Year's Day in the college football playoff semifinals, Ohio State beat Clemson, 49 to 28. And first of all, it's a fun game to watch. I really want to give a shout-out tspn something. I very rarely do the presentation of the game. Awesome, the whole game felt epic and I mean that the hype package before the game. I was so excited and then I really was glued to my TV. The first half of this game was amazing the second half drug on a little bit as a Ohio State pretty girl was going to win but shout out to ESPN and they did a great job and it's kind of kind of shocking actually like this game was so well done by ESPN and it's like it's such a superior product to Monday Night Football, which is all done by ESPN. It's like like why can't Monday Night Football be as good as this was I don't know maybe maybe a playoff atmosphere helps. I have no idea. But every time I watch a really hyped up big intended college football game on ESPN. It's really well done. And it makes me sad that Monday Night Football isn't better. My only criticism I guess of the presentation was that I didn't like the yellow first-down indication on the bottom right of the screen. Mimic I'm thinking that there was a flag on every single play Elsa go first. And then is there a flag was just cuz it's yellow for some reason. I don't know why they did that but otherwise man every facet of the presentation. I don't normally talk about it comes to games phenomenal very well done Dabo Swinney Clemson had Clemson's head coach. He put his foot in his mouth and he was wrong for whatever reason. I don't really understand. Well, he'll tell you his reason. I think it's stupid Dabo Swinney ranked Ohio State number 11 and the coaches poll behind Palm Coast North Carolina, which is laughable..

"Davos, Sweeney can do whatever he wants with his pole. It's kind of why nobody pays attention to the coachespoll anymore. Now that we have the playoff committee rankings, we don't need it. Because when dabble places Ohio State number 11 Hello, Florida and Oklahoma and Georgia, Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina as well. It clearly was just to make a point that Ohio State did not play enough games in his mind. Not that there's 10 teams. Actually could beat the buck up the same way no power. Five coaches put Cincinnati in their top four. But seven group of five coaches did see the coaches are always acting in their own self interests. How "Lil' Ol' Clemson" Overcame the Odds

"Here today to talk about Little Clemson. First of all where where did that name come from. Davos swinney has been using it basically since he took over as the head coach back in two thousand eight and I know we're not supposed to be here. We're does willow beer but we about the Tigers man. I'm so proud and just quickly remind us. How much has little clemson accomplished in the last five years? And how do those accomplishments stack up against some of the all-time great teams. This will be their fourth national championship game in the past five years and obviously they have won. Two of the past three national championships backpedaling Lawrence flips absorb open wide open just native. Where's the pen strengthens? Its the championship game really witnessing one of the all-time great runs right. After or maybe you know in conjunction with the dynasty that Alabama has had attack territory with very likely a victory formation and a fifty fifth win but this clemson senior class. The Tigers Tigers reclaimed their crowd by four Alabama. We are really truly talking about one of the great runs. We've seen in this sport and yet they seemingly get no respect at least if you listen into what Dabo Sweeney has to say we win to the team that beat South Carolina. And it's we we get clemson out. It's the dad gummed state so it's big because you know they can't vote us out. I mean we gotta we gotTA WE GOTTA go thirty. You know I mean we got no choice forced but Stewart I wanted to talk to you about some of the things Clemson has had to overcome to get where they are today because in some ways it makes her accomplishments even more remarkable. So let's start with the schools location. This is a school that is in the tiniest towns announced in college football. The main drag is a half mile if that they have one of everything and only one of everything one starbucks Fox Walmart. You've got this eighty thousand seat stadium hundred fifty thousand people rolling into the town on the weekends. it's incredible bull and but then they all leave. You know Monday through Friday. We kind of have our own world and it's named Clemson. It's not named university. University of their state and Frankly University of South Carolina has a much bigger fan base in that state. CLEMSON's not even the biggest Followed team in their own state. And I imagine it's harder to build that fan support when you don't have the state name in your school's name 'cause fans can identify so strongly with the state there from. Yeah I mean obviously the one big exception in College Football History Notre Dame that has a true national following but that goes all the way back to the nineteen twenties and and new rockne is taking them on the train and playing games all around the country. It's truly unique when you think about the kinds of programs that we're used to seeing at the top of the polls the Alabama is the Ohio states. It's the US's these are schools with big huge national fan. Bases Clemson truly is still even with all the success mostly a regional school well and a lot of people might not realize this but clemson has had to recruit locally for the most part I mean. It's remarkable if you look at their roster. How many of the guys as our from North and South Carolina Georgia in Tennessee every program? You know the the core of their recruiting class is going to be in their backyard. But clemson's up until recently. He was almost entirely from their backyard. And really that mirrors Funston as a school their alumni base something like seventy percent of the alums live in three states South Carolina North Carolina and Georgia. This is not the kind of place where anywhere in the country you go. You're going to find clumps in Bar And one other big thing. That's working against Clemson. Is They play in the ACC weaker conference where where they don't really have a rival and it's almost like people forget about clemson during the regular season because you know they don't have very many marquee games. Yeah everybody watched. Trevor Lawrence and Travis E. T. N. and and T- Higgins in last year's national championship game and saw how great they they were and then the season starts in people. Stop watching the game. They played against Texas. Ain't ammon week to was the most watched game they played this season A little over six million viewers. That was not even one of the top twenty most watch games in college football this season. And if you look at that list of the top Twenty Games Ohio Hi oh state was in five of them. LSU was in four of them Michigan. who wasn't even all that good was in three of them? When talks about lack of respect the thing that bothered him most is this year? was that none of those star players Trevor Lawrence WHO everybody assumes will be the number one pick when he's coming off his junior season travis? CTN has been one of the best running backs in the country the last three years. None of those guys made the heisman ceremony. And none of those guys were even finalists for the award for the best is player at their position in. That's not because they're not great players. It's because nobody watched them this season. How has clemson been able to overcome some of these kind of systemic? Systemic challenges. The fact that they aren't this historical powerhouse. The fact that they're in this tiny town in the middle of nowhere South Carolina would have been the keys to to them building this program into what it's become. Yeah well it really all starts Dabo swinney. He is a extremely unique personality in college. Football one moment along the way that I think have stuck with everybody was Dave beat Notre Dame in practically a monsoon in twenty fifteen regular season and they interview him after the game on. ABC what nine listen. We're giving scholarships give you stipends in tails in a place to live. We're giving nice uniforms. I give you good service tonight. It was big. Well Gee Bring Your own God put some dads and to me that personifies daboh like. That's not something. Most coaches coaches would say in a post game interview and kind of set the tone I think from their Dabo. Swinney is the fun coach. He's the coach who when they built their new football facility. They put in a PUTT. PUTT course welcome to the outdoor pavilion miniature. Golf Renfro just happened to catch the game winner in the National Championship Against Alabama. We'll see what he's got here. Your place on Punsalan rest for the weary. We'll at hunter and so that became their brand there. The Fun School there the place you want to go if you WANNA play college. Football get an education education and have a lot of fun doing it and to amplify that message. Clemson was really ahead of the curve. I think With how they used social media to appeal to recruits they are constantly putting out videos And other images that show exactly that that show that take you inside side. The Locker Room and inside the facility in show you how much fun they're having Show you Dabo swinney dancing in the locker room after a win Stewart. How would you describe Devil's dance? Moves dance moves are about a clunky and awkward as you'd expect from a middle aged dude but but certainly in keeping with his his personality. There's also a video that they posted of Disney filming a football ball movie at Clemson last night. Any five thousand people here. We have to shoot three plays and the entrance from valley in a half of a half time. Half time the real players went off the field and a whole bunch of actors and Clemson. Uniforms came running onto the field and the and the the crowd cheered them on. And and you know made it seem like a real football game and the footage is going to be spectacular. It's one of the three loudest crowds in Clemson visit history. And what role has the rest of the Clinton coaching staff played in the rise of the Tigers when Dab oh I started getting a going at Clemson they weren't a national powerhouse yet. They were starting to get better. He did something that was a little unusual at the time and basically took a lower salary for himself in order for them to spend more on. assistant coaches. Because at that time. They weren't necessarily rolling in money like some of the programs that they were trying to compete against. They they were paying their coordinators top dollar money and those coordinators played a huge role. I mean they were the ones that certainly Chad. Morris was the one that recruited and coach Sammy Watkins Skins and certainly does Shawn Watson. The guys that got this run started now. They are rolling in money. An data was making nine million dollars a year. And that's you know that there's no longer a disadvantage for Clemson. But they were very smart about how they went about managing that in the early years of this run.
