"I mean, you're you're super involved now with the NBC and I love that Craig Robinson's done a phenomenal phenomenal job taking over being active. Like I feel like that organization was dormant for years and he's done a great job. And I know you you're involved in that you've been involved in some other things because otherwise your wife's going to I mean, like like there's no way if you're not doing something. What do you get going to be annoying her? Well, she know what first of all she's really busy and and everybody with with the zoom meetings and everything where you know, I mean one party email. She's another you know, we got the we have to find out what when I can walk in and out of the kitchen, you know, because she's there in that area. So we gotta get our schedules coordinated, but but you're right just you know, as far as the dog See, you know, the National Association of Basketball Coaches is our governing body, you know for all of our divisions all divisions of college basketball and we're very proud of the association and I'm I'm very proud to be on the board of directors of that. I've been on that now for for a while and and now that you mentioned Craig being on new executive director and he's doing as you said so well a tremendous job of like us and supporting us, you know, we have great leadership and you know take anything away from Jim Haney, you know, but Craig is jumping in now and Baton has been passed to him and and we're proud to be a part of it together and I want a few committees. Actually. I'm on I'm co-chair myself and Frank Martin from South Carolina. We co-chair the racial reconciliation committee, which is a very important job that was created after the George Floyd murder and I was asked to share that and I was wow, you know, it was really blown away that I was asked to do it and but we've taken initiatives, you know, we've been fighting for certain things with them. Organization to help you know us to you know, bring about change to make a difference, you know in our society and through basketball, you know, whether that's the elimination of trying to take on elimination of old SAT and ACT test standardized test, you know, we're doing things when we were heavily involved with other coaches as well with voter registration, you know, some different things that have come up, you know come down and I have been a part of you know, something as anchor coaches for another initiative. That was his his baby in his brainchild is called a John McLendon minority leadership under the name that you guys, you know know who and and Bob you probably you probably knew, you know, coach McLendon. I wish I did know I didn't yeah. Oh totally well aware of. Yes, just the legendary faith. And and so we're we're you know, we have that's a coach driven initiative. You know, we're all coaches. We have Patrick Ewing. We have Coach K. We have Dabo swinney's Nick Saban football basketball. What channel is the one he and I have kind of been the anchor coaches, but it's been he's driven. It has been his idea. And that's something that we're bringing about having minorities more minorities women and men wage being having exposure and access and opportunity on athletic campuses to become Future Leaders, you know, we've talked about how do we get more? You know black people African Americans minorities in leadership positions. Well, this is one of the ways that we can try to do that to help diversify athletic departments.
Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Ranks Ohio State at No. 11 in Final Coaches Poll
"Davos, Sweeney can do whatever he wants with his pole. It's kind of why nobody pays attention to the coachespoll anymore. Now that we have the playoff committee rankings, we don't need it. Because when dabble places Ohio State number 11 Hello, Florida and Oklahoma and Georgia, Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina as well. It clearly was just to make a point that Ohio State did not play enough games in his mind. Not that there's 10 teams. Actually could beat the buck up the same way no power. Five coaches put Cincinnati in their top four. But seven group of five coaches did see the coaches are always acting in their own self interests. Politicking for their own schools for playoff spots, Bull Biggs and then their conferences to get more respect and when they can propping up those that help them while tearing down those that don't

"For jalen hurts. And i can't wait to see this young man have addict. Meanwhile as we're getting ready to turn the page to hurts they're still the review is to what has happened carson wentz that he's benched against the new orleans saints in a must have game three eight one for a franchise that who's coach is now on the hot seat. Who's general managers now reported to be on the hot seat whose owner is red hot about. What's going on right now. Jason kelsey the center of the philadelphia eagles. Whose brother by the way travis. Congratulations to him named the walter. Payton man of the year finalist for the kansas city chiefs today. That balling out on a field. The tune of five straight thousand yard seasons. I ever for a tight end. And he's now also in the community out. He is the walter payton man of the year. Honorary for philadelphia. I mean for kansas city. Any his brother. Jason kelsey who is a leader of this team was asked about what's going on with carson wentz and what happened with carson wentz and he reminded everyone it's a team effort now carson is unfortunately not played well so the these are the situations that happen but if you bad that you know he's the sole one taken the hit right now you know. Obviously the entire offense has been terrible offense of line running backs. Receivers coaches aren't as bad as everybody shares blaming this whole thing and i think everybody here knows that i know that carson knows that that this is not just him And you know we gotta do something we got to try and spark some sort of different. You can't keep doing the same thing and expecting to To get better and we just haven't been able to do it so you know. Obviously you know jalen is gonna go out there and get his opportunity this week and is he young kid that you know great attitude At the end of the game and did some things. So we'll see how it doesn't a four game tough spot for jason kelsey. Because he's the guy you know you talk about a center of quarterback those geysers closed. They you possibly can get yeah physically emotionally. I mean literally there is close spatially you can get so for him to sit there and have to answer about carson wentz and he's got now snapped to the next guy. I thought he handled that expertly. Certainly with the flowing locks in the mall in the beard and the whole thing work and right now is he getting ready to star in a bob. Seger biopsy all of it. Or roadhouse to one of the other i don't know but i usually use a bio-pic by the way by biopic. Sounds like i need glasses. Look it up. And i don't need glasses to see this Here suits splendor of individual growing growing like that even the eyebrows. He's got oregon again. Let's just. I thought he handled that very dicey situation expertly. And then there's the issue about looking over the steering wheel right because if this does work for jalen hurts or even if it doesn't if it just comes close like if it's just like we saw some flashes we see some flashes similar to what we saw when he came in for wentz last week when he started spark in the offense and he was tough to put down and he was tough to keep in the pocket and he was doing things that whence wasn't doing and they almost came back and tied that gaming green bay and then aaron jones put it out of reach but does this mean he's going to be the starter for the rest of the season due. Dna matt do you do that. What you do. And the coach. Who's no doubt just taking it. One game at a time answered that question with a different cliche. Listen for the phrase that pays. What is your plan here going forward. Do you see this as something just for this week or or what less. I don't have a crystal ball. I can't predict the future right. I mean come on. I mean that's All i can all. I can focus on his today and and getting our team prepared today and and getting our guys ready for for sunday. I would love to come up and ask the head coach to do this for me. You know steve koernke's back on set of football night in america this week and did promise that try and sneak in sniffen it in front of a nationally. Televised audience I would. I would love for a head coach to just say i. Don't have a delorean. I can't set the date for the future crystal ball. It's kind of ancient like the new millennium new new millennium's looks that about how about a hot tub. You still have a hot listen. I don't have a phone booth in london. Zan and i'm a phone booth and i'm a hot tub when we come on now. I don't have a crystal ball. That's the way out of number two on your list rich which i wrote down the coaches cliches. Let's get it is what it is is what it is you can control only what you can control and i have a crystal ball and the second one i you can only control what you can. Control is substituted in times of ota's and training camps when there are holdouts from only talking about the guys that are here. Those are your coaching cliches in the nfl. One game at a time is kind of like the seventies and eighties that so last century. That's the crystal ball of phrases. I don't have. I don't guys i don't have a crystal ball or should it head coach. Bring a crystal ball who these zoom. It's just say hold on a second. Because that was less bone. I imagine in philadelphia it. Let's hold on a second. Let me see not just is plugged in. I mean parcells days in dallas. When used to go on the table rich perfect sit there and have his like his actions like he was the boss would in the media was dr melfi and he would just share even keep sharing perfect session. Maybe they should just bring a magic eight ball with them up to shake up. Four magic april ask again later in all seriousness. He does have to see what jalen hurts. Looks like i mean 'cause you go ahead go. What will they really think. Hit that for me too. Because i know you i'm just i'm just audible is really thinking. 'cause this is doug would have to say less. Are you kidding me. You know. I stuck with the quarterback forever and a day how much he costs. Do you see how much it would be dead money. Do you see how much it would cost us to have him as a backup. It would totally hamstring. You know that the salary cap for the first time in the history. Nfl looks like it's going to be actually shrinking next year. I don't need a crystal ball to know that. I know it's shrinking. Are you kidding me. So it's now three eight and one. We finally waited to this point in time. And now i finally do this. And you're asking me about what happens next. I just need to see him score a touchdown less. Don't you. I mean you've seen him in the media portion of a practice we've seen some flashes. I have no idea. But i'm not going to sit here and say carson wentz's the backup quarterback for the rest of the season. Then i gotta talk to my general manager owner really. You want me to tell you now and seen. He's probably what he wanted to say to him. No he's gotta go reaching the old bag cliches. God bless on crispell for now is their coach anywhere at any level call for four to four hundred zero school coach. Pop warner do you have a crystal ball. I wanna know a coach who owns a crystal ball. I have a crystal ball. As a matter of fact. I see the future i see wins sixteen and and that's a guy with crystal ball amen. Jonathan gruden's extended. Oh man darren waller referred to him earlier this week. jonathan gruden. Should we just spitballing here. Rich should we come up with an eisen show crystal ball and send it to all the cultures now. What we need to do first is have a segment. We have a crystal ball predict the future..

There's people there, so there's that thing with shooting and everything that I think will be interesting so I. I wonder if they'll cover the seats at all if they'll have media in those seats like how they're gonNA adjust that the other thing is the sound for the broadcast for UFC. It was it was weird, but I I don't want. I don't really mind I. I honestly I don't answer. No, I watched I watched the car this weekend. I I'm so into the fighters right and the commentators I've been UFC fights. It's great, but on television. If you give me good announcers fighters, and by the way the are so close to the athletes, you can hear everything you can hear their feet move right but i. don't know how that's. How that's going to work for basketball because the announcers are going to be there so I mean how close the court we don't know, but you're gonna be able to hear a lot more. There's more players so that can. Be Interesting for the broadcast, too. So Gardner Menchu transferred schools a few times during his college football career, and he says the constant moving prepared him for dealing with the limited offseason in the NFL this year. When I was Washington State? This was kind of a similar thing because I wasn't there for the spring. On as well.

They've had good people that got rid of good people. I thought not shocking they. Didn't handle themselves well publicly. On black lives matter. All Right? Portland came from way back to win the game and I believe it or not I've googled trying to look up the game. And then I got into college football because I lived in Washington, State, and Warren Moon was the quarterback of Washington. It's kind of what I fell in love with college, Football and I've said today if Warren Moon and you go back and look his youtube stuff in college. If he was playing college football, he'd be the number one pick. He'd be the number one pick he could run. He was big hit huge arm. And he had to go to Canada to play. And then he dominated the NFL. That's the route. He had to make to play in the national football league. Institutional racism exists. That's why we're having the black lives matter movement. "The most popular football coach in his region or state in the country He's made clemson power. He and Nick Sabin Right now are pry the you know, the highest paid the most coveted. Football coaches in America. He's very very good football coach. He's built a great program by and large from what I know, which is very little He keeps the same assistance year after year after year. There's not a big turnover rate, so he's probably decent to work for. He also recruits very well and players. Don't abandon the program, so I imagine most players like him a lot. Most coaches like him again. There's not a huge turnover rate you go, you commit you play. People say Nice stuff about him, but one of the things I've learned about. Life is when people have power the more power. You have for the longer time. It's much tougher to relinquish it and nobody has more power in college sports than the Popular College football coach and Dabo Sweeney right now has more power than anybody in college football, except maybe maybe Nick Sabin so over the weekend there was a picture taken with Dabo Sweeney wearing a shirt. Football matters not black lives matter. I'm not asking him that. He has to wear a black lives. Matter Shirt, but I think this is appropriate, and here's why now it should be noted. Football matters is a slogan that has been used for years by the National Football Foundation which he's part of. He's used that phrase before in speaking football matters. And also. Used it three years ago, speech at the South Carolina State House about the quality of football and how it changes young men. His quarterback said he's been wearing that shirt for months fine. I just don't think this is the week to wear it. It comes off his obstinate. Okay I'm not asking everybody to protest. But, here's a guy who reads the room. He's one of the great recruiters of all time when you recruit. It's walking in reading the room reading MOMS reading dad reading. The Sun, reading the daughter your read in the room. You're kind of figuring out. Okay. What matters to mom, what matters to dad? What matters to the recruit? Oh, my Gosh! He's got two daughters or twos. Two sisters recruiting all about reading the room dabbles great at it. I. Don't think in this instance. College coaches especially the local southern football coach. They have so much power. I mean we've heard a lot of these coaches in college. Sports Talk About Co Videsh over the last couple of months, ooh! Stop talking now I- chef. KNOWS FOOD SO I. Don't ask a chef about the GDP of Yemen. I don't generally ask a college football coach about social justice, but. A big. Part of coaching is mentoring young men. You're often almost a surrogate father, and what matters to those players is the life blood of your entire program? I. Don't mind wearing the shirt. This week feels. Obstinate, it feels like it's a rigidity bubble. I'm used to it I've seen it my entire life with college coaches, but I prefer Tom Herman at Texas coming on my show last week. And addressing black lives matter this way. To see the the the pain in the struggle in the fear. The confusion. On my players faces. We've gotTA find a way to stop. We've we've got to find a way. The thing I told our players is. This cannot be like. It's always been two weeks from now. Three weeks from now a month from now a year from now, this has to have meant something. We have to have affected change by not just our words, but but our actions. Coaching is teaching. This week they've been a lot of teachable moments. I just don't think it's the week to wear that shirt. Right our two coming up Colin Right, Colin wrong it is a Monday. "See Snow June seventh I'm over it. No but does not not in summer, not in some good to see again. That's it. So it was a big weekend for the NFL no games, no practices, but it was a big weekend and Roger Goodell came out and did the right thing, and I'll get to that in a second, but here's Roger Goodell I imagine somewhere in the basement of his house, saying I'm now going to align with the players. Here's the NFL Commissioner. We the National Football League condemn racism in the systematic oppression of black people. We the national fully emit. We were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier. And encourage all speak out in peacefully grotesque. Read the National Football. Aleve, lack lives matter. By the way, many owners did not know Roger Goodell was going to do that. He did and should have and here's why. But the last several years, three or four Colin Kaepernick took a knee. There's been this walking on eggshells. Thing with NFL and trump's twitter account and players Eric Reed Malcolm, Jenkins, and other players talking about protests, and it's walking on eggshells and the networks that broadcast games. This one included. Everybody is just hoping this doesn't happen in. That doesn't happen I. Just don't think it's a healthy relationship. Finally. Roger Goodell took the power away from Donald, trump's twitter account and said. Turn my partners. I'm splitting revenue with them. I love these players I have relationships with these players. I'M NOT GONNA. Let anybody divide us. I'm on the players side. I on their side. We have a president who's brand is division. It's over. He'll be gone in November, he will. And he can divide people on his twitter account Roger Goodell, said no time out. I'M GONNA WALK ON EGGSHELLS? It's the right thing to do for humanity. It's the right thing to do with my business partners, and frankly it's just the right thing to do. Support the players. I don't know exactly what the NFL player owners split is, but owners make more, but players make over forty forty five percent of the revenues. I believe sorry, if I'm wrong, probably should have looked at up, but if you're a business with people and their valuable and you like them. And and this fear based stuff that well. If the players protest, they don't WanNa blow the League up. It's their industry. It's generational money. The NFL players. Don't want to blow the League up. They just want to be heard. And you know here's the thing it. It's easy. I mean twitter makes a living out of this Gotcha. You said this six years ago. You said this nine years ago. You said this nine months ago. I'm over that if you want growth. And Roger Goodell showed growth. It's very hard to demand perfection. Derek jeter didn't wake up hitting three hundred. He struck out a lot. And that's sports. We're talking race in human beings and social justice, these are delicate topics, and it takes not. Everybody learns at the same speed. Bill Maher said THIS BILL MAHER HBO. He's one of those crazy old liberals. He actually said. During Michael Salmon Michael Sam got drafted again. F. L. Player and kissed his partner and everybody freaked out and bill. Maher said not everybody learns at the same time. It's OK of one or two fans were a little shocked. They'd never seen. It had to take a deep breath, and then can respond. Never forget one of my favorite president of all time I've always told people. My favorite presidents are Reagan and Obama. Nobody can figure out why and for different reasons I like their leadership abilities, but Obama's first term as president and I think he's one of the smartest president we've ever had. He was opposed to gay marriage, and at the time I remember thinking smart guy bad take. And then he listened and learned, and that's how growth happens. Is that you you don't hear enough angles? You don't listen well enough about Roger Goodell and he's been criticized for years as a commissioner. And I keep saying this, he's not stubborn. He's not rigid. He's always been willing to the rules the television business. He listens to players. Too much of this stuff that's going on in America is fear based I've been watching CNN I'm old enough. You and Watson at twenty years I've been watching it thirty years. We're having a revolution in this country. Other countries. I've watched CNN for thirty years on revolutions. They don't look like ours. Ninety nine percent archer peaceful protests be honest with you ninety nine point nine percent. Of protests for our. Revolution has been peaceful. I watch, CNN. It's not always like that. There's too much fear out here. I was talking to my daughter about this. I mean really for the entire weekend with my family. It's not called only black lives matter. It's black lives matter. Your partners in this amazing sport of the NFL just asking, we listened to us. Will you hear us? Were partners? We're not looking to end the league. Just improve it. And Roger Goodell as he's done many times he gets a lot of criticism sat down and went. Players are right. I was wrong. Just because you're over, fifty doesn't mean you can't grow. I mean Gregg Popovich I think he has a military background in his seventies. He's constantly evolving. It's Okay I. Don't know when this became a weakness. I don't know when we became so partisan. That stubborn was smarter than evolving I don't get it. It's not my DNA. It's just not the way I'm built. I have stronger and different opinions today on subjects from just two years ago I'm talking about a couple of subjects today that I just I see the world differently. Some people are never going to get it. They're not curious. They don't WanNa read. They put their feet. They burrow in, and they're not gonNA. Move, but here here for Roger Goodell the only thing I would warn is that you don't get growth without some mistakes. You GotTa Stumble. Often to get to the right place, the NFL did and I thought it was a great leak, and actually for America with a peaceful protests kind of blown away by it, and it was a great weekend for the NFL. They took the power out of trump. I WANNA work with my players. These are my guys. These are the guys on Sunday. I'm going to battle with and I'm supporting..

How "Lil' Ol' Clemson" Overcame the Odds
"Here today to talk about Little Clemson. First of all where where did that name come from. Davos swinney has been using it basically since he took over as the head coach back in two thousand eight and I know we're not supposed to be here. We're does willow beer but we about the Tigers man. I'm so proud and just quickly remind us. How much has little clemson accomplished in the last five years? And how do those accomplishments stack up against some of the all-time great teams. This will be their fourth national championship game in the past five years and obviously they have won. Two of the past three national championships backpedaling Lawrence flips absorb open wide open just native. Where's the pen strengthens? Its the championship game really witnessing one of the all-time great runs right. After or maybe you know in conjunction with the dynasty that Alabama has had attack territory with very likely a victory formation and a fifty fifth win but this clemson senior class. The Tigers Tigers reclaimed their crowd by four Alabama. We are really truly talking about one of the great runs. We've seen in this sport and yet they seemingly get no respect at least if you listen into what Dabo Sweeney has to say we win to the team that beat South Carolina. And it's we we get clemson out. It's the dad gummed state so it's big because you know they can't vote us out. I mean we gotta we gotTA WE GOTTA go thirty. You know I mean we got no choice forced but Stewart I wanted to talk to you about some of the things Clemson has had to overcome to get where they are today because in some ways it makes her accomplishments even more remarkable. So let's start with the schools location. This is a school that is in the tiniest towns announced in college football. The main drag is a half mile if that they have one of everything and only one of everything one starbucks Fox Walmart. You've got this eighty thousand seat stadium hundred fifty thousand people rolling into the town on the weekends. it's incredible bull and but then they all leave. You know Monday through Friday. We kind of have our own world and it's named Clemson. It's not named university. University of their state and Frankly University of South Carolina has a much bigger fan base in that state. CLEMSON's not even the biggest Followed team in their own state. And I imagine it's harder to build that fan support when you don't have the state name in your school's name 'cause fans can identify so strongly with the state there from. Yeah I mean obviously the one big exception in College Football History Notre Dame that has a true national following but that goes all the way back to the nineteen twenties and and new rockne is taking them on the train and playing games all around the country. It's truly unique when you think about the kinds of programs that we're used to seeing at the top of the polls the Alabama is the Ohio states. It's the US's these are schools with big huge national fan. Bases Clemson truly is still even with all the success mostly a regional school well and a lot of people might not realize this but clemson has had to recruit locally for the most part I mean. It's remarkable if you look at their roster. How many of the guys as our from North and South Carolina Georgia in Tennessee every program? You know the the core of their recruiting class is going to be in their backyard. But clemson's up until recently. He was almost entirely from their backyard. And really that mirrors Funston as a school their alumni base something like seventy percent of the alums live in three states South Carolina North Carolina and Georgia. This is not the kind of place where anywhere in the country you go. You're going to find clumps in Bar And one other big thing. That's working against Clemson. Is They play in the ACC weaker conference where where they don't really have a rival and it's almost like people forget about clemson during the regular season because you know they don't have very many marquee games. Yeah everybody watched. Trevor Lawrence and Travis E. T. N. and and T- Higgins in last year's national championship game and saw how great they they were and then the season starts in people. Stop watching the game. They played against Texas. Ain't ammon week to was the most watched game they played this season A little over six million viewers. That was not even one of the top twenty most watch games in college football this season. And if you look at that list of the top Twenty Games Ohio Hi oh state was in five of them. LSU was in four of them Michigan. who wasn't even all that good was in three of them? When talks about lack of respect the thing that bothered him most is this year? was that none of those star players Trevor Lawrence WHO everybody assumes will be the number one pick when he's coming off his junior season travis? CTN has been one of the best running backs in the country the last three years. None of those guys made the heisman ceremony. And none of those guys were even finalists for the award for the best is player at their position in. That's not because they're not great players. It's because nobody watched them this season. How has clemson been able to overcome some of these kind of systemic? Systemic challenges. The fact that they aren't this historical powerhouse. The fact that they're in this tiny town in the middle of nowhere South Carolina would have been the keys to to them building this program into what it's become. Yeah well it really all starts Dabo swinney. He is a extremely unique personality in college. Football one moment along the way that I think have stuck with everybody was Dave beat Notre Dame in practically a monsoon in twenty fifteen regular season and they interview him after the game on. ABC what nine listen. We're giving scholarships give you stipends in tails in a place to live. We're giving nice uniforms. I give you good service tonight. It was big. Well Gee Bring Your own God put some dads and to me that personifies daboh like. That's not something. Most coaches coaches would say in a post game interview and kind of set the tone I think from their Dabo. Swinney is the fun coach. He's the coach who when they built their new football facility. They put in a PUTT. PUTT course welcome to the outdoor pavilion miniature. Golf Renfro just happened to catch the game winner in the National Championship Against Alabama. We'll see what he's got here. Your place on Punsalan rest for the weary. We'll at hunter and so that became their brand there. The Fun School there the place you want to go if you WANNA play college. Football get an education education and have a lot of fun doing it and to amplify that message. Clemson was really ahead of the curve. I think With how they used social media to appeal to recruits they are constantly putting out videos And other images that show exactly that that show that take you inside side. The Locker Room and inside the facility in show you how much fun they're having Show you Dabo swinney dancing in the locker room after a win Stewart. How would you describe Devil's dance? Moves dance moves are about a clunky and awkward as you'd expect from a middle aged dude but but certainly in keeping with his his personality. There's also a video that they posted of Disney filming a football ball movie at Clemson last night. Any five thousand people here. We have to shoot three plays and the entrance from valley in a half of a half time. Half time the real players went off the field and a whole bunch of actors and Clemson. Uniforms came running onto the field and the and the the crowd cheered them on. And and you know made it seem like a real football game and the footage is going to be spectacular. It's one of the three loudest crowds in Clemson visit history. And what role has the rest of the Clinton coaching staff played in the rise of the Tigers when Dab oh I started getting a going at Clemson they weren't a national powerhouse yet. They were starting to get better. He did something that was a little unusual at the time and basically took a lower salary for himself in order for them to spend more on. assistant coaches. Because at that time. They weren't necessarily rolling in money like some of the programs that they were trying to compete against. They they were paying their coordinators top dollar money and those coordinators played a huge role. I mean they were the ones that certainly Chad. Morris was the one that recruited and coach Sammy Watkins Skins and certainly does Shawn Watson. The guys that got this run started now. They are rolling in money. An data was making nine million dollars a year. And that's you know that there's no longer a disadvantage for Clemson. But they were very smart about how they went about managing that in the early years of this run.

"Yeah he does it I thought you say something like that there's only one ah the Melita was shown as a sophomore whatever the sophomore all I can tell you is he his leadership his commitment his preparation the kid graduated in two and a half years that's exactly what trevor is going to do leadership it's not about him and that's the the things that you can't get your comment on this moment that you talked about fourth quarter game on the line at ever seen him in that situation the moment that stands out to me so far this season was his tackle in the open field threw an interception about that to me that showed me a lot I haven't seen that before Trevor Lawrence bad throat what's going and then he he so football play as a head coach like no don't try right in your surprising or did you like what you saw oh my Gosh I love listen that's leadership and it's not what happens it's how you respond to what happens you know he didn't pound he didn't go in and it wasn't that interception wasn't his fault right he went and he he just took but you know what what happened our defense goes out there has a goal line stand and gets the interception they get zero points down the one yard line they'll no question about that and obviously is you know don't get me started with Justin Russell what he did I can't forget about infant him an apology I know he will be all stopping but I will say this I want to give the defense some love to I mean I'm looking at Simmons I'm looking at a couple of Gods get some saks for you how do you feel about defense defense will have to show up to the limit a good yeah there's no doubt well here's where we are so obviously we had a bunch of freakazoids last year right last year after five games we were giving up sixteen points a game we're giving up twelve last year after five games we had seventeen sacks we got nineteen sacks last year after five games we had one interception we at five so they're playing great we didn't play our best game in North Carolina gave up a big play we don't usually do that and then we gave up a long drive at the end of the game but we rose up and to stop on the two point but they've done a phenomenal job are back seven has led the way while we're growing up those guys up front but these guys considering doesn't Labor job and and again we're getting better we're a team that's going to keep them proven you you'd coach teams that have won the national title you've also coached teams that haven't and we're still great absolutely looking back at it was there a real fundamental underlying difference between your national championship teams like the character of those teams and the teams that didn't quite get there is it sometimes just the way the ball bounces and how would you apply that that kind of way of looking at it to this team this year Oh yeah absolutely well first of all you've got to be good enough not good enough to win the national championship and that's okay that's what and people get mad at me our goals not to win the national championship we have five goals and that's not one of them what are they to win the opener is to win the division is to win the State Championship to Win The ACC championship to win the closer because we could go undefeated and somebody may not even go play for the national championship we don't control so winning a national championship is a by product of what can happen if we achieve our goals but also we're committed oh I've had great teams sometimes you have a great team maybe player gets hurt you know does that mean that everybody sitting committed that he can give everything they had that two thousand fourteen number one team in the country to Sean Aww I got a big memory but anyway so so that team was great Joe's guys were amazing and we didn't win the National Championships one of the best teams recoup question Paul Finebaum got to bring them up again bring him up again is credit who wanted to be here but couldn't here's the question that I have for you because you just brought up something that's very very important you don't get to pick and choose whether you're going to be spinal fourteenth you could go onto feeding and still ended up not being picked to be in the final four are you worried at all that the reigning defending national champion can't could go undefeated and have enough fraternity to reference to defend your crown on a college football player because they don't put you know you worried about it a your work that's what you're safe isn't that what you're saying Max listen eh you sit around and worry about the things that you don't control those things control you so I don't worry about that I worry about being Florida's date I'm worried about trying to get trevor to play up to your standards that y'all want him to play nation I think right now where it sits today if it just happened today probably good for some individuals probably not good overall for college athletics with no I I am a love the collegiate model I love I value education but I do think and there's a lot there's a lot of people don't the modernization of the scholarship and the collegiate a lot has happened over the last five years I'm not sure a lot of people are aware of so there's been a lot of positives but there's still so much more that could be done from just modernisation standpoint and lots of things I just think people got to get in a room and smart people and they've got to find that common ground but have some parameters to protect the collegiate model I think it's going to be great conversation I really it can be some great positives come from it there's a lot I've had I've had for years I've had lots of thoughts and suggestions and comments but I don't know where to go but but I do think by the time two thousand twenty-three gets here there's GonNa be some positive change for the scholar athlete but but but with equality and you know across the we're like right now it's talking to you last night I mean I mean Clemson's brand we raise a lot of money but when they cut the checks at the end of the year Boston College gets the same Alabama and all that underbush gets the same check because you're in the same league and so I think protecting the collegiate model protecting teams and other sports other full scholarship elites across the board whether it be women's basketball or whatever just ask you a question about that the suggestion I've heard to protect the kind of amateurism that we love about college football and be fair to the players as a suggestion you had about they can make money but you have to graduate and then you get it at the end so like while you're playing you're in a way an amateur but ultimately you're not not compensated for your efforts I liked that idea a lot I think it's built on education and if we if we get away from that very few people are going to play professional ball and so I think if we did something we had a fun like I'd like to see money for the parents to be able to travel we have that right now our our parents our senior parents have gotten seventeen thousand five hundred dollars over the last four years from the playoff money in cash and tax money so there's been some good but there's more opportunity there I wanted to ask you about this I don't mean to ask you about this I hear this argument a lot well look college football you know what Clemson and the place that funds like title nine stuff and other stuff why should that be on the football player like if it if it means a lot to the university to the NCAA ahead and funded endowments fun those other things why should it be on the backs of the college football player swelled because universities are businesses and not many universities and fund all those things so there's very few clemson's are Alabama they generate the type of money there's a lot of colleges that that would have to make some tough decisions and the student athlete experience would change drastically but again I think there's a common ground I always tell the people in the far left people in there the same people it's the people that can find some common ground in the middle that creek progress and create.

"Been there done it. Heisman is a great award it's awesome I would love to have a player when it but if I've got to leave him in get stats fourth quarter and things like that would probably not have win but we just we want to win the big question about the show watching you obviously breach team if you're gonNA talk about how all the contributions of team in quarterback sometimes gets too much credit and you as a leader and a coach have these guys playing with each other all that stuff but took you guys to beat Alabama a couple of years ago because of the Shawn Watson did I thought it would be tooth and nail down the stretch and he sprinkled Magic Pixie dust and in the make the play to win by Hook or by crook he'd figured out and he got you over the did Shawn Watson do anything in a permanent way to this program by beating Alabama the way he did or is every year just you start again or are there is there a ripple effect from now there's a ripple effect the shown benefited from what Taj boy did toss boy benefited from what Kyle Parker did we've built program over the last ten years and everybody's been building blocks every moment has has has mattered does shawn put the flag at the top of the mountain and prove that we could do it you know it was the only thing we had not done in ten in my time here in seven years at that time was win at all so he set that tone and then we come back a couple years later and trevor took the baton and let us back Stephen Apex Yeah you can hide Iran but you can't hide we're going to take a quick picture we know Alabama Alex he saw that list then you can hear me I talk about where we had dinner on campus weight is a Toy College Avenue Perry anybody ready to win the Tigers take on the seminoles coach thank you so much for being here without this thank you all for coming to Clemson and showcasing this great now it's great I love the southern hospitality he's got this big smile on his face because when I take is over today I got to address his team in issue public apology apology I think you made was to Kevin Durant's mom so this should be this is Fau- worse this is years in the making worse years thing on the other hand I'm good listen I saw what you guys we're doing I saw what you were up to now I see I see to me to me I see a competition for the number one spot in the college football reverse and I don't mean on a year to year basis I mean who's era is this are we are we still in an era where you guys are contesting you against Nick Sabin and your program against his or are we in a new era that is the cleansing era the way the previous one was the Alabama coach I don't know about all this little clip and trying to be the best we can be I'm GONNA put on little sound of you yesterday let's all take a listen to that and then you're gonNA follow yesterday nothing wrong training white people trying to drama there's no drama on this team so what People WanNa create drama it's the most unbelievable there's no drama eight metre drives me crazy there's no drama on our team so we just WANNA create trevor missed throw he must be hurt no he's human he's humid all right a lot of flack for the close win obviously again you please follow off what you were explaining there everybody he well first of all we shouldn't have reporters asking our players Prov medical stuff that we haven't put out there released and so that's what happened and so this speculation gets out there because for maybe other people's expectations but he's made expect he's played great he's run great he's made some huge plays extending plays big scrambles big throws our third down percentage is higher than it was after five games last year throwing for more yards per game after five days but you know people kind of have this you know they'd like to build people up tearing down but there was this this underlying thing like Oh my God there's something wrong with him they're they're keeping a secret and I'm like where is this coming from and it started with kind of a question it should not have been asked when guys are hurt we oh him there's nothing wrong with him people wanted to create something coming from a place where they're trying to expand understand how this guy who looked you say he's human he didn't look human last year all the sudden you're seeing some things we're like oh he's missing throw and it's not coming from a bad intentions place it's coming from a trying to explain what they're seeing place well no he missed rose last year he took too many sacks he did not use his legs like he needed to so I see all the good things he's doing but he's had he's had some bad place to but if you really look at it he's played one fourth quarter game you know we could have left him in against Georgia tech and he'd have he'd have all these stats could've left demand against Syracuse we could've left against Charlotte and scored one hundred points and that's not what we're about we want to dominate the opponent but we're not here to embarrass people you know and I want to other guys play so it's not about all of that but bud the thing for me was North Carolina it's the first time in twenty games that I've ever seen Trevor Lawrence where the game on the line in the fourth quarter and so it was good Liam respond and I didn't think he played great against North Carolina he made a couple of years he missed a touchdown throw and when you barely getting the ball we only had like sixty a skit compounded we had a bunch of offsides just some misplaced funk may but he found a way to get it done it was the first time that I saw him in that situation and I I'm super proud of him he's awesome job as a beat writer over seventeen years I totally agree with you about questions not needing to be asked about a kid needs medical situation without going through the program and saint the pros tiny it's exactly as college and you have to do you have to know better than that so I give you that but I will ask you this question when you look at him right nice completely but a little bit better than sixty one percent of his father in five games obviously he's human than what have you but talk to me about the Trevor Lawrence that went up against Alabama and the national championship game and played lights out and look absolutely spectacular to the Trevor Lawrence that we have seen this year what is the difference in your mind he's better smarter he's bigger stronger faster he's he's an unbelievable leader so it's really that simple you know again it's like it's like it's like a horse race ace in your your halfway around the tracking and you got all these people and you know talk about all these people out here in the front but just trust me that'll horse he he can run and he'll be right where he needs to be when it matters he is he is unbelievable in every regard and when when the season plays out will I be we'll be having this conversation about what a great to be very very careful about what you're saying coach because you know what you're talking about him and going about them as well you should details but you're talking about him like you talked about disarm what's now does Shawn Watson is a special man I know how you feel about Mr Shawn Watson Michael Jordan that that was you speaking in these glowing terms fasted. I've thought what you're trying to say I have another guy liked to show him and and he's everything to Sean was everything the intangibles the commitment the preparation the poised he's all of those things but bigger six any stronger any learning younger age because he was rookie coach i WanNa ask you something I wanna ask you talked about certain moments that told you stuff everything was just six six and stronger I wanna talk about a moment from earlier this cody ends based got you know long hair in that regard but his does show what makes the show on special he's got the skill set but it's who is a person humility.

"Thanks let's play with Dolly we can just bury it deep in the ground Gyco we download the industry-leading GEICO APP today team after what we just saw on Monday night football I think now in credit to the Brown they haven't lost back to back games they may not have won back to back games this year but had the browns right now they need to stop this internal bleeding they need to show up and show out to stop all of this noise for being made I would say it's a real real good idea to win but not a must win we're going to win I thought looking at the schedule coming into this year I thought the right number over under wins for the browns was nine and I thought it was a good chance they could be two and five after seven james it'd be a much better idea if they were three and four four and three but that ship has sailed right because they here come the seahawks then the Patriots then they go to the Broncos thing the broncos that's one thing but it's a tougher game you know when you get the altitude at after the Broncos it's the bills defense so I'll say this in the next four games they must win the two of them but they don't necessarily have to win your they could lose here they could lose to the Patriots beat the Broncos in the bills right so this is a it's like a pretty good idea to win this game I can't say it's must win like Stephen I feel like we really don't know who this team is because they're so inconsistent in its so drastic either so dominant or the blow out like we saw the thirty one to three Monday night all right Russell Wilson Leads League and touchdowns with twelve quietly Baker leads the league with interceptions that would be a when I take returns much more from Clemson the party just getting started on everybody welcome back to I take up bowman field and Clemson let it stephen a Max do you guys have all the clough induce can you please ask our bosses I've got two requests one can we get dj studio because this has just been fantastic until can we go to more college campuses how much fun is this remote it's lovely lovely I got to give credit where credit is due the reigning defending Tolbert Stephen how you doing thank you so much for coming out today I thought he was oh yeah we know what we know what time it is right here you know what time to Cisco Stevens a list the top five plays at college football after week five Gotcha this week this week's college football right now I excuse me this right here I'm not going to do it because you know what I got somebody that looks a hell of a lot better than me that's put some names on the board your name is was the key right the kid that's right let's get tough tough number US Joe Borough put it right up there because right now defeat it leads all at the quarterback it completes it percents he's been absolutely volley he's a big Tom Talent I got to put him up there at number up let's go to number four put a Jonathan Taylor with constant why it's shoot me eight years we can't ignore it we got put on top up let's go to number three on the list just failed why have you seen house book have you seen they did before even though we talk about the elite team clip to be number one Alabama number two okay we got to think about Ohio state we got to think about Georgia Ohio state you think about that kid right there number two one toa put him up there we know who brother Y'all know who this brother is it's something Matter fact because the way he performed the way they look in a national championship game I got an apology to issue later on okay so we'll get into all of that another topic to still big Tom so with Alabama to number one on list give it to me Jay Lin hurts he's a gentleman ladies a special guy right he tied for total Qbr we know how to say Jada hurts with his record as a starting quarterback thirty one.
Lovin' it: Trump treats Clemson footballers to fast food dinner
"President Trump welcomes the national football champions. The Clemson Tigers to the White House and serves the team fast food burgers from McDonald's and Burger King, Domino's pizza and fries salads. Also on the table. Burger King all America companies Burger King Wendy's and McDonald's we have big batch. Which is we have everything that I liked that you like. And I know no matter what we did. There's nothing you can have this better than that. Clemson coach, Dabo Swinney. Also, speaking and football in the relationships through football created this opportunity and for that, I'm so thankful.

"A small moment maximizing, you know, use the game of football. To create the network that you need for the next forty years. You know, it's it's it's so big an opportunity for these young people coming in, and and you know, and I want I don't want my guys to be defined by football. I want. I want them to be great men. You know that just oh. By the way, they're good football players to, you know, but, but they're they're they're going to be quit through their journey and through the experience of football to dominate in life man outside the months not just on a football field. And that's that's what I love about my guys in the guys that come here. So funny because you know, they they're also similar it doesn't matter where I go. And it's it's neat for me to to get to go. See my guys in December January that are coming in. And I can see clearly when I get to go see where they're coming from why they chose us. And you know, it's it's been awesome. We've got a great culture, and there's no perfect place. There's no utopia, but man, just just being committed to to love and you players and trying to do. Do the right things and helping them be successful, academically and athletically, that's what it's all about. My last question to you. We've been talking about usually, you know, it's Nick Sabin urban maya's name was in it. Now, obviously, I it's not too many people got two national championships on their resume. You'll wanted a very few people that have has achieved that now. So now, they're talking about dabbled Sweeney as arguably the greatest coach in college football with obviously more championships expected in the immediate future. How are you feeling about yourself right now, we feel about the program we now would you feel about your players? How are you feeling about you know, I'm just blessed? I mean, I'm just blessed, and there's so many there's a million better coaches to make. That's for sure there's a lotta great high school coaches in college coaches that have never get the opportunity to to win a national championship or coach at a place like Clemson. But you know, I'm just blessed, man. This was God's plan for me. And I'm so thankful I've had the opportunity. It's very clear to me to God order my steps over the last twenty five years of life, really all of my life. But in particular over the last twenty five years how he's orchestrated everything man. I'm just I'm just blessed and thankful and enjoying the jury, and I know that the best is yet to go. You know, we're we're enjoying it one day at a time. Coach I promise very last question. You've got a whole bunch of these NFL teams coming at the college coaches, it seems these days I know you ain't thinking about leaving now. But is it possible that the NFL could be your future one day, particularly of you, keep winning a couple of more national championships might get to a point where there's nothing else to approve on a collegiate level ever think about that. At all. I don't really think about be always with you. And there's been teams that have reached out. They were collie other colleges NFL teams over the last few years for sure, but you know, I love. Where am I love? What I do. I love my guys a little more staff, and you know, when you make decisions like that. You're not just impacting yourself, you're impacting a lot of people. And you know, I I always say never say never I think that's that's just kind of. 'cause I don't know where I'm going to be five years from now what my mindset would be do. My president of jerk is do my AB guy. That's miserable. I have no idea. What what what's down the road? So I never say never. But I'll I live in the moment, man. I love where I am who I work with..

"Nick save. In this phenomenon is one of the all time greats in some people's is the all time great, we get that. And there's nothing to dismiss or poo about the Alabama crimson tide. But when you look at clemson's program, I think the biggest thing is that a guy like Justin Ross left Alabama to comment play for your program. What do you think that says not just about you? But what's going on at Clemson? Because you've got a lot of kids out there that are looking at Clemson differently. Yeah. No doubt. I mean, we think we guys this this year this classroom. I think fourteen different states. So I mean, we've we've gone to Pennsylvania and got the top player in the state. We got the top receiver out of California this year Josephine God of the top receiver out of Florida. Frank lanston. I mean, we'd gone all over and but getting Justin Ross last year was was huge for us. I mean Trevor Lawrence last year out of Georgia number one player in the country. So, you know, we we we. Recruit guys that we think, you know, fit our culture, and and we're transparent because I won't go to know what they're getting into when they come in here. What the expect -tations on? It's just really cool to see young people that are just great great football players and how they recruit and all that. But yet they still they they walk family. They won't disciplined they won't structure, they want accountability. And and you know, that's not that doesn't mean that that's not a lot of other schools have the same things. But it's just really cool that our brand has grown to that point. And guys know what we're all about. And you know, for young man like him to to want to come and be a part of it. But he knows that we're explosive on offense. He knew that he would be able to come in here. And I have a chance to to grow and mature with Trevor lords along the way, and he came in here and got behind T Higgins, you know, he had he's the second freshman I've had to have a thousand yards the Sammy Watkins, and and he was a backup. You know? He backed up t- Higgins most of the year and. And then as the year went on we kinda had different packages where we got them both on the field at the same time. But he's an amazing talent. Those catches that you saw the night. You know, that's like just, you know, another day at practice for what we see around here. And he's a great kid with a tremendous work ethic. So much fun to coach. And man is they're going to be fun to to work with that guy for a couple more years does a couple more questions for the great one dabbles. We need a coach at a rainy defending national champion. Clemson Tigers right here with Steven. He has PIN radio ESPN news. I want to transition because I want to get your perspective not about these players, but about player accountability. And some of the things that young guys out there need to recognize if you're going to come and play collegiate sports you had a Dexter Lawrence. You had zag laying Brandon Galloway they got suspended because the national championship game because of some failed drug tests with some muscle growth supplements, or whatever the case may be but most of them have forget about those guys for a second. You are. A coach going into kids home talking to their parents, their family members, etc. Etc. Because of how things have changed from a societal perspective. Even from the business of the NC, double A, how individuals players programs, etc. Held accountable. What show message to kids that want to come and play collegiate sports that they really really need to know, and the grass if they're going to succeed at this level and keep their head above water is what are some of the minefields. You think they need to watch out for coach? First of all, there's no entitlement. You know, we we we live in this world now, especially with a lot of young people. They get armed with this entitlement. Whether comes from, you know, outside people in their life, or whatever or the recruiting process. You know, listen, there's no elevator to success. You know, you gotta take the steps period..

"But man, he's he's gonna just continue to get better as body. He played it about two fifteen this year. And I you know, and as opposed to show on his freshman year he played about right at one nine nine two. Two hundred and left here about two fifteen or so, and I I think I think Trevor leave here, you know, to thirty plus, and he's very athletic. I mean the last drive of the game. The other night is the longest driving Clemson football history. We had the ball ten minutes and two seconds in the game. We got the ball and a half inch line and kept it for ten minutes and two seconds and took a knee in a big reason for that was was Trevor, you know, he made a couple of runs, and you know, there's a lot of people don't really see him in that. Right. But man that guy could move and he can make plays with his legs when he needs to. And you saw that on that last drive. You had a couple of huge first downs that allowed us to to, you know, take take all the time off the clock there in the fourth quarter. So he's he's special and I can't wait to to get back on the field this spring. We've got most everybody back on offense and roll lose Renfro. He Charlie out of here. But it'll be a good starting point to have. He and chase Bryce who. Also got some great experience this year getting out there on that field. I got two Trevor Lawrence eight the only special one this kid Justin Ross is something special. And he is a guy that starred as a prep player in Alabama. And you got him to come from Alabama to Clemson. And that leads me to a bigger question that I wanted to ask you ask you about, you know, being Winston Salem state going to school there right down right up the road from from from Clemson and South Carolina. I'm familiar with that area. And I never in. My wildest dreams believed that Clemson would be sitting in this position right now where it's not about just a national championship. What I took from Justin Ross. And when he was spoken to and what he spoke about this prior to the national championship game. They asked him why he wanted to come to Clinton and he talked about the family conduct atmosphere. The fun loving coach and a program that he plays for and he talks about having a good time. Nick save. In this phenomenal is one of the all time greats in some people's is the all time great, we get that. And there's nothing to dismiss Pupo about the Alabama crimson tide. So I mean, we we've gone to Pennsylvania and got the top player in the state. We got the top receiver out of California this year a God of the top receiver out of Florida. Frank lanston. I mean, we'd gone all over and but getting Justin Ross last year was was huge for us. I mean Trevor lords last year out of Georgia number one player in the country. So, you know, we we we. Recruit guys that we think, you know, fit our culture, and and we're transparent because I go to know what they're getting into when they come in here. What the expect -tations aren't. It's just really cool to see young people that are just great great football players and Holly, recruit and all that. But yet they still they they walk family..

"But if the whole way I was gonna ask you about that in terms of your conference, or what have you because every time somebody's talking about football. Obviously in almost stops and starts with the SEC. Now, obviously you played in Alabama for the national championship. You played Texas A&_M second game of the season. And that was a hell of a game that ended up winning twenty eight to twenty six. So when when you talk about your conference and conference in the lack of respect per se is it that everything goes to the SEC and everyone else's suffering from receiving lack of respect or do you think specifically more attention needs to be given to the ACC is which one is? I think it's definitely more tension giving the ACC this league is is is very very challenging. I mean again we had eleven bowl teams this year. I think we had ten last year Levin. A year before that I think no no leagues had more bowl teams over the last three years. It's just very competitive. You know, I mean, anybody can can can beat anybody in my opinion. And you gotta come to play every week. We have a bunch of great coaches in this league. And and that's he sees a greatly to there's no doubt about it. But there is a rhetoric like, you know, that nobody else plays football. And and I, and I, you know, some of that media driven or whatever. But that's he see is is very unbelievable the league. But I it's hourly is is what prepares us. That's all I can say is what ABC gives us we can and week out. And and what we practice against every day and how we practice, and so, you know, we've been in the postseason. I mean, you can go all the way back two thousand twelve when when beat LSU, and and it's it's been a, you know, every year we get into some of these postseason games. And it seems like we're we're always no matter what we do. We're always kind of you know, the underdog if you will and just kinda guy, but guys love that. I mean, 'cause they they know how we practice. They know who we play and how we prepare, and you know, and then we played Alabama. You know? So we're we're two in one against them in national championship games. We're too into over the last four years. So we have the mindset that you have to have to compete against such unbelievable opponent. But I think our league has been very deep and competitive, and I think SEC has been very strong on the front end. But maybe maybe not as deep although this year, I thought they they had a bunch of a bunch of good competitive teams that that bunch of bowl teams as well. Dabbled Sweeney head coach for the reigning defending national champion. Clemson Tigers right here with Steven A, ESPN radio ESPN news. Gotta get into trouble Lawrence right now. Because I I'm looking at a freshman, and I'm looking at the height on his God think he's. Logistic six five six six coach. Clearly, he's got a rifle of an arm on them looked absolutely sensational in the national championship game as well. This three touchdowns and three hundred and forty seven yards passing. You had the Shawn Watson just a couple of years ago deliver a national championship for you. And I'm not asking you to compare those two per se. But what I am asking is how good can Trevor Lawrence end up being when we talk about. I mean, I've got people right now talking about his height and his ability to see over the defensive line of scrimmage, and what he can do with that all of this. They think he has an opportunity to be one of if not the all Tom great. What are you say about Trevor Lawrence today? Say he's he certainly has that opportunity. I think that he's got every measurable that you would ever want, you know, from a quarterback standpoint as far as his size, his fundamentals his release, his arm strength athleticism is all those things. And then he's got the intangibles the football. I q the ability to process things and see it his demeanor his poise. He's leadership character humility, you know, all those things. So he's got everything. There's really no. I mean, the only thing that would stop him is is, you know, just the good Lord didn't have it in the car. It's one for whatever reason..

"It's so funny to hear all the people trying to make excuses and explanations and things that are just you know, what we were the best team simple as we were the best team. Thought we were the most talented team and that game this year. And that's all that matters. And these guys proved it it was kind of a drop the mic moment for those guys. So happy for our seniors. And we it was a dominant performance. I thought we were better in the trenches with they had zero sacks. We pressured their quarterback we we were able to get something going in the run game just enough. And then we felt like we had great matchups. Skill on skill and we had explosive plays or quarterback played great. He played great all year. I'm not sure why everybody was so worried about him all of a sudden turned into something that he wasn't. But from matchup standpoint, we felt like it was a great matchup for us, and you know, all year long. Everybody was this is the best Alabama team they've ever had. And so, you know, we were just the better team and played better made great plays one in the trenches. They had turn overs. We didn't we had. Saks? They we made big plays. They had not very many. We were good in the red zone. They weren't. And that's really what it comes down to and games like that. But I mean, they're a great team. But we were the best team this year. And you know, you shake Kansas told Nick afterwards. I said I'll see you next year because they're not going away. That'd be that'd be right back next year for sure and they've been unbelievable champion, but this particular team that we had here just so special from day one coach Sweeney educate me on this. You know, as you said everybody all year long was talking about Alabama put tick Uley when it came to its quarterback towards Hola and everybody was talking about tour as if he were invincible what is one thing for two to ask what coach says to the players to get them ready cetera. What did the players or what were the players saying to you leading into the national championship game? Monday night, just total confidence. I mean, we felt like we had the better team. And we felt like we matched up. Great. Great respect for them. Unbelievable defensive personnel offense it personnel to special. I mean, this really really special. But, but we we felt like we could we athletic in our front and could could create a little a little strain, and maybe disrupt their timing a little bit. You know, we went into the game, you know, kinda won't allow to them a little bit pre snap and give give to us some different looks and hopefully force a few mistakes. And and the first big pick six there was was, you know, a great call great well-designed coverage that with a pressure, look, but we really played cloud corner to the field, and and we were kind of fooling night there. And it was a big play for us. But our guys were confident. I mean, they they they've. Been that way all year this team. You gotta understand the makeup of this team. This was a very deep team when it comes to leadership. We're twenty six guys voted for captain, you know, that got boats for captain and thirty four guys that got votes for most inspirational player, so it was just a a unbelievable team. I've had a lot of great individual leaders over my time here, but this team the depth of leadership was special, and it was that way from from day one. And you know, they worked all year they kept their head down. They stay focused all year. Like, I said they they want thirteen in a game by twenty points or more. I thought we played very challenging schedule. And I think it prepare our league doesn't get the respect that it should. I mean, we've had read eleven bowl teams. But our league is very competitive and really prepares us propo- season every year year in year out and all you got to look at our postseason in 'cause we play people. We it's tough. Conference, and then we step out of conference and we play folks. And and then we get in the postseason. You know, we're we're usually at our best. And that's the way it was this year this leadership..

"Welcome back to the rich Eisen show and welcome back to the program. Head coach, Clemson, tiger football, the head of the program, the coach Dabo Swinney back here on the show good to speak with you again, coach. Ridge, how you doing? I am doing better for talking to you. What's the most asked question you get walking around campus there right around now, coach, am I going to, you know, since ridge is in his improved his forty time to why consider bringing him on board to to catch some of the passes from his quarterbacks. I got. So when you think, well, you know what? Coach, I appreciate that. I know you are a Molder of professionally fast men and send them to the next level to ball out and go to pro bowls. So I appreciate that. Appreciate that yet. So so do what do I have de'andre type ability based on what you see on tape coach, you know, I love your effort and your heart, you know, and your won't to. I mean, those are three great things that you gotta have you know, but but in reality, you know, probably better off with where you are right now for sure. I appreciate the tough love. See, that's why you're good as you are. Tough love right there. I said, I got the tough top twenty love right. I appreciate that because you can't teach what beats inside. You know, you know that for sure you can't. If I could put what you have inside of, you know, some of these incredibly gifted athletes, you know, I would probably never lose a game. There's no doubt about, well, I did notice you did say which quarterbacks I did notice that you did say that I did notice you guys, man, we got some guys in, you know, we're, we're, we're never unique situation. Obviously, we got got back, but that's one twelve games and took us to a playoff in his very first year starting. And so he's he is much much improved from where he was this time. Last year is a guy going into really first year to play. And then then we've gone out and recruited a couple of very gifted players and you know, so it's just and they've all been here since January, grinding and competing. And and so it's a good situation. 'cause we, we're really for the first time. Since I've been head coach, I think I literally think we have three guys that we could win with. So you know, I'm excited about that. Obviously, one of them's gonna run out there when when we play and you know, we practice every day great everything and it's sooner or later somewhere on will have an important, and this is where we'll start. But I think I think you'll see us play more than one guy. You know, probably a lot as we go through the season, you know, as long as they continue to play well and I, I don't. I don't doubt that they will say I was going to ask. Is there any thoughts to having to quarterback? Yeah, I mean, it just, you know, I think you play the hand that you're don't you're any year out and to me to, you know, I know some people that's kind of taboo, but, but to me, I don't see the position as any different than any other position. I think if you have very productive people, you point them, you know, inflow as they're playing at a high level. I mean, I could go. I mean, we had shack Lawson was Vic, Beazley's backup, and. Both first rounders and so you know, we, they both played a lot. Obviously, somebody had to run out there first and and depending on how they played, you know, it was was maybe one guy got more snaps than the other. But so I don't really think that's a problem and it's just it doesn't often happen at quarterback like that. But I think we're in a situation this year as long as guys play well, where we're, you're obviously more than one guy play..
