"Another dentist and the dentist the new dentist i went to college station and he said that the tooth is infected and that he had to pull it and he recommended an implant to implants to fill with a bridge was now. My problem is How do i get who. Yeah okay you got you got you. You have a big problem. I'm not a huge problem because you have two people to first of all you have the restaurant to sue for. What would be a normal a normal dental procedure. Under the circumstances. That's what they're responsible for now. The second part of it is the dentist screwing up that. Dennis is responsible for everything beyond that. And i'm thinking i'm talking about the dental implants. How much of the dental implant gonna cost you. Seventeen fifty a piece. Seventeen hundred and fifty dollars right. So you're all you're all within the ten thousand dollar jurisdictional limit so what you wanna do is negotiate with the restaurant folks and say i've got a real problem with dental malpractice on one side. But i'm not gonna hold you responsible for that so what i want from. You is the cost of the fix that would have or did happen as a result of your negligence and the job being done property properly. Then you're going to get that so let's say two thousand bucks. Okay fifteen hundred dollars then. What you do is turn around and you get to sue the second dentist or the dentist screwed it up for the cost of the implant and everything else not even go pain and suffering and all that i go for the full ten thousand dollars and the dentist is going to argue. Well it's within the the it's with the care that i normally given is not malpractice. But i would. I still would do is when you went to the dentist. Just get a his notes or her notes okay And see if the dentist was willing to take you to is willing to go to court and testify on your behalf. Probably not but it hopefully. It goes very quickly and win. If that dentist is willing to do so you can ask the court that you have an expert witness To bring you up first so it's in and out. Okay try that. Thank you bill. Yeah that's a double. Yeah that's no fun at all not at all leeann. Welcome to handle on the law. What can i do for you i. I'm waiting for the dwp to install a new water meter and line into our remodel. That is all finished except for it. Needs that to pass the fire inspection They've just now told me that it's going to be maybe a five month. Wait can get. They're so stuck paying rent for five months. Because we're understaffed. And i wonder if case hang on a minute. You can't move into your home for five months because that's the delay correct exactly. Ooh wonder if i have a case will probably not That's that's probably there's legitimate damage there. I mean don't misunderstand because you're obviously paying mortgage on your home right. I'm in my rental house. You're in a rental house here. You're paying a double hit there. I would make a claim. I would still. I would make a claim. And then they're going to deny the claim and then you an appeal it and then you go up to small claims. Would you can do you go up to ten thousand dollars put. I don't think he's gonna win. Because it's can could court order well small-claims certainly can't but can a court order the dwp to hire more people. I don't think so. I think we're just screwed beyond screwed..

Microsoft Explanation of the Future of the Windows 10 App Platform

"So there's this fluid framework which which we gotta talk about a little bit but is Microsoft trying to make DWP APPs anymore. Are they trying to make sixty four bit apps arm are they just like saying screw it. We're only GONNA do classic classic Windows APPs because that's what they decided with one note or are they making Web APPs. Are they doing all the above. Tom Just please tell me the answer so I can stop wondering if new damaged but as as as anything mark sold is far more complicated but I I think the overall phase that the udub stuff I was for a different era is for when they go off. The phone will run on exploits. They had this vision of an APP third everywhere hence universal. So so do you have any. PM sorry for the universal windows platform pro fights platform. Yeah and so the idea was you could write once run anywhere but it's you make an APP you put it in the win in the Microsoft store and it'll work on windows tablets windows laptops and also windows phones and you can you can inex- votes on hold on an xbox and Hololens and and You know it has a consistent across all these things and it's a beautiful dreamworld and they got they got you know tens of developers to do it and and so the majority of that dream has gone away by the phone. The phone is gone away. That was the key bridge and the stuff is just like yeah whatever and Holland still develop him. mm-hmm we'll see what happens The other part of it is that these things only run on windows ten and they had millions of people's to ease seven so to convince even enterprise up developers to re fat to their apps into this is just. This is not gonNA happen when it can't run on the vast majority desktops right. So I think that's kind of held held the legacy of of the enterprise and stuff we might not always wholesome back on everything because they were trying to appease everything for business just that's just the nature of their business And I think that's what we're seeing now so like the one stuff. They announced this week in the announced basically one note 2016 which is a desktop is coming back to life and it's going to get a bunch of features awesome. Yeah if you're not familiar. There's there's one twenty sixteen hanging around and then they made the new like WBZ basically version of one note that was like the future and like if you had a surface pro and you like tap the screen and it would open up that version of one note and like I think yeah and so it was like an. It's really nice. WPRO is like one of the the was in fact the APP that I recommended as the Best S. note taking AP Windows in general being one note best note taking APP especially for Cross platform and so I was expecting them. Okay well eventually. What they're GONNA do is they're going to get all office onto this new platform? It's going to be great They just need to add a few more features and maybe some stuff like fall by the wayside when they make the transition. And that's okay. Because life goes on but instead they just totally like backtracked and retrenched. And I said Yeah that things done. We're just going back to the old 2016 version of one note to go along with the old versions of office. It's very confusing. Yeah so they feel will they can His the magic obeys underlying Kobe's think they're going to bring a bunch enthuse cool new features. It's this old desktop right. But I don't really know what's going to happen into the new play. They say it's going to be still exist. You know y mice of loves having to APPS RAVINE IS Internet explorer edge. Yeah paps there's like Windows Mail and outlook proper outlook. So it's just a phase can be another one of those scenarios I and I love it but underlying with this is that a year ago I think it was. They said they were going to put their new touch friendly UW versions of office. This which are really nice as well. Those things launch in like less than a second they crazy basic. They just use them every day. It's not the word you used. Those are on hold and they were going to take us a win for you to the desktop and Web Yep and the section was one note until now so I feel like they are going to focus a hell a heck of a lot on the web for the stuff that they were trying to achieve review. WBZ original dream and everything else. I like you know the legacy and keeping their business customers happy desktop down for two allowing devs to just kind of go wilde dewey one in like that's I I think the thing now just do we need to do to get your APP store. Whatever yeah

PG&E says its power lines may have started 2 fires in California over the weekend

"PG and saying it's Orleans may have started to wildfires over the weekend in San Francisco's Bay area blackouts were in place to prevent down lines starting fires during windy weather but the fires began a section of town where the utility opted to keep the lights on besides were not designated as high fire risk another round of blackouts is expected to begin today as more strong winds move onshore joining us right now for a look at how utility companies and their customers are being affected we are joined by Jane Wells who was on the front lines but this right now now Jane Tell us how this is all shaking out let me just give you seen this is part of the getty fire this is in the hills above Brentwood one of the most expensive neighborhoods Sandra and people are going to have to stay out of their multimillion dollar homes for at least another night according to the mayor we'll get some more information later but this is one of the homes of that was destroyed her eight homes destroy they only have five percent containment so far this is la DWP territory but it's surrounded by affected areas covered by southern California Edison and after the bell we will start to get a sense of what these outages and these fires are causing utilities the St for Addison internationals looking for four percent drop in revenues to about four point one dollars for the third quarter one percent rise in earnings to a buck fifty eight but as more Windsor expected to come in later this week and more outages the governor is now order investigation into whether these outages are excessive if the utility companies should be penalized for them and whether they should be barred from charging people for power that not getting during the outages his particular outage outrages leveled at pgn eight listen PG and he has not been in this position before we would like them to consider reimbursements and we're going to be very forceful and advancing I want as many people bidding for the assets of Pacific Gas and electric as possible I couldn't be more clear I just hope people make a bid for the asset so we haven't competitive process moving up into June thirtieth of next year when we have set the goal and date mandate for Eugene get out of bankruptcy yeah well he's even floating the idea of getting Warren Buffett to maybe make a bid for preaching Anne Cooper meantime is offering free rise to and from accusation centers from those who've been displaced and Elon. Musk is tweeting that he's offering a thousand dollars off if you buy a tesla solar and power wall system you don't have to depend on the grid when the grid goes dark guys Jane just in terms of of of thinking that it's excessive to have these shutdowns these power outages is can they argue that when some of these fires may have very well been been started by lines that weren't shutdown well yes That is the conundrum what kind of got technology in and modeling are using to make these decisions certainly they will argue there would have been more fires or worse fires if they hadn't done the outages it's an iffy thing becky Jane thank you for more on the mounting pressure California utilities companies let's welcome Congressman Democrat California whose district includes communities Silicon Valley Congressman. Thank you for joining us this morning good morning good morning it's a terrible situation we can talk about the business side of this we could talk about the the human side of this I just give us an update on what you know and then I wanna get into what you think should happen well it's devastating for many people across -fornia many are without power of course homes have been destroyed by these fires totally unrelated I actually a staff member in my district who had a fire that almost burned his house not because of the wildfires because pg another outage so these PG lines that are causing fires aren't just using fires in wildfires this is a common occurrence across California and it's outrageous and in terms of how to manage p genie. What would you do I would have them as a public utility the facts are very clear they have failed to make investments in the upgrading of their infrastructure the regulators have been way to lose there's not enough accountability it's time for the state to take ownership of PG and make sure that they are doing what they need to do to keep the power on and to keep people safe I mean in the twenty th century when you have a state that has apple Google Tesla in it there is no excuse that we can't get power to our people on a regular basis congressman I'd argue that there are decades and decades of underinvestment in the infrastructure there if the state takes over where do you get the money to make those much needed aspirant's what we need to have stayed investment and we also need to have federal investment the reality is that we have underinvested in the smart grid we have under tested both of the state and federal government but those are investments that will that were needed and we need to invest more in forest management we did not have the prescribed fires that were necessary we did not have the brush clearing that was necessary this has been a decades of neglect process that has led to this crisis do you have any idea how much you might need for that systematic neglect in the infrastructure and in the forest management we're gonNA leave the conversation there congressman appreciate you being with US thank you for having me

in his green new deal the total solar deal has to go before the full Ellie city council for a vote before it becomes official and a bill the lead California create special banks to handle cash from Hertzberg authored the bill he says he and treasure fuel mall will try to get the bill passed next year support for NPR comes to the George Gund foundation working to make Cleveland and northeast Ohio more globally competitive livable sustainable and just more information available at gun foundation dot org it's four oh six. from NPR news this is All Things Considered I'm also Chang and a Mary Louise Kelley whether should not be a partisan issue so said Neil Jacobs earlier today he's the acting administrator of the national oceanic and atmospheric administration and he was trying to calm a controversy that only seems to be getting worse it began when president trump made the in accurate claim on Twitter that Alabama would be hit hard by hurricane Dorian not true weather forecasters in Alabama is that the state was not in danger but then no one backed up the president and now there are questions about whether the agency violated its own policies all of this fits a pattern says Gretchen Goldman of the union of concerned scientists which we should note is an NPR sponsor golden says what's unfolded it is a perfect representation of what's happening under the trump administration it is a situation where we see the president said what he wanted independent of what the evidence told us he then double down on that he ignored scientific experts and he tried to force fit to the science to back him up and that is exactly what we've seen the president and others in his administration do across federal agencies and across issues your group the union of concerned scientists issued a report saying that this administration has basically created a chilling effect on scientists can you describe how that chilling effect is happening it's happening across the governments across the government on everything from food safety to environmental protection to products safety like strollers scientists need to be able to use science and communicate that science in order to protect people but what this administration is doing is creating an environment where those scientific experts aren't going to feel safe communicating that. science if they don't feel that their leaders are going to support them and that's true especially when the science happens to be politically inconvenient well to be fair don't politics seep into science at some level during every administration because every administration will fund and promote the science that backs up their policy priorities right we do see interference in the science across administrations science is very powerful and you want on your side and so it makes a very vulnerable to political interference but it's not appropriate to force fit the science into your policy decisions what we're seeing is under the trump administration this is happening at an unprecedented level we've logged more than a hundred times that this administration has a mis use to science and its policy decisions and that's more than any other administration in the past five decades what do you mean by that mis use science we were looking specifically in instances where they were supposed to make its decision based on science or they were supposed to allow science to be public and they did and so these are things like squashing that scientific reports from the national academies of science which happened a few times refusing to ban a pesticide that's been linked to brain damage in children so we've logged one hundred of those your team wrote in this report that some of the censorship that's happening is literally asking scientists to not use certain words or certain phrases give me an example of that that's right there's been a few cases of dot one of the more high profile ones was at the centers for disease control and prevention where scientists were asked not to use words like evidence based and that's obviously absurd junctional about that. your guess is as good as mine but it it's characteristic of this administration in wanting to control what scientists do and say which is not serving the public and that one of the reasons that's no story was so big is because that one's very easy to understand everyone relies on the weather forecast every day and we has backed experts to give us a truthful forecast on not and this is a more visible example but we're seeing that kind of thing happen on everything from chemical safety risks to drug policy the FDA all across the government. Gretchen Goldman is the research director of the center for science and democracy at the union of concerned scientists thanks very much for coming into the studio today thanks so much for having me. when president trump tweeted over the weekend that he had invited the Taliban to camp David and then had called off the secret meeting the peace talks were dead dead dead dead dead far as I'm concerned that that call to mind the long arc of failed U. S. diplomacy in Afghanistan and the many diplomats who have tried to bring the US war effort there to an end among them Richard Holbrooke president Obama's envoy to the region he died in twenty ten of a massive heart attack at the hospital a doctor ordered hold work to relax and he replied can't relax I am in charge of Afghanistan and Pakistan that's one of many stories that George Packer recounts in his book about Holbrook our man we wondered if Packer heard echoes between today and a decade ago and so we've invited him to our New York bureau hi there hi Mary Louise hi so it occurs to me that president Obama like president trump was elected on a campaign promise to end the war in Afghanistan and obviously Obama didn't get it done because here we are was part of the problem then as now divisions within the administration that always seems to be the problem I mean you could look at every crisis or war going back to Vietnam the fighting inside the administration seems even more intense than on the battlefield. in two thousand nine Richard Holbrooke became Obama's special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Obama didn't care for Holbrooke Whitey name and if you didn't like it because Hillary Clinton wanted him okay man Holbrooke was you know the sort of this storied envoy who had negotiated the end of the Bosnian War and so Holbrooke spent two years trying to get Obama to let him negotiate with the Taliban and it was only at the very end of his life in fact on the last day of his life he was in a meeting with Hillary Clinton discussing the new channel he had opened to the Taliban the first one of American negotiators since the start of the war and his a order poor and that was the end I hadn't realized it was the last day in the office that he'd always wanted to occupy the secretary of state's office compare the man charged with leading the US effort Richard Holbrooke a decade ago it's it's only Khalilzad now who is president trump's envoy both seasoned diplomats but beyond that could not be more different that's right Khalilzad he had a knack for sitting down with Iraqi leaders and letting them know that he understood their point of view he has a sense of how negotiations have to work in that part of the world wars Holbrooke sort of blundered and made an enemy of Hamid Karzai who is the Afghan president at the time. what is more patient more subtle and spent nine rounds I believe of talks with the Taliban leading up to what he thought was a deal but it turned out his president trump was also the opposite of his predecessor Obama Obama was cautious and spent weeks and weeks studying the issue in the National Security Council trump was detached and gave Khalilzad great freedom which may have been partly why he was able to come close to success and then with a single tweet since the whole thing up in flames. based on your reporting what is your sense of how national security decisions in this administration are being made a national security adviser John Bolton has just gotten sacked following a reported disagreement between bold on the president over that plan meeting with the Taliban yeah well at my distance the way it looks is the president enjoys seeing his advisers Rangel and squabble for his approval and then once it gets to a critical point he comes in with no information not having been close to it at all and without regard to the process because he ended this potential break through without any consultation with his government it was unilateral. your whole berkata flair for the dramatic what would he have made of the idea of inviting the Taliban to camp David I think he would have been horrified by it it would have been giving them a platform that they hadn't deserved and didn't need why did we have to do it here it was Khalilzad who had come close to this breakthrough and and the president had nothing to say the Taliban there was nothing he could have added to the talks and I also think Holbrook would've probably driven a harder bargain I mean there was no ceasefire in place is no sense that we can really trust the Taliban to hold their end of whatever bargain we strike including their promise not to give another safe haven to al Qaeda as they did in the nineties. George Packer thank you thank you he is staff writer for the Atlantic and author of the book our man Richard Holbrooke and the end of the American century..

"Money. The the the reality is this that we have two hundred and fifty million dollars transferred every year from the DWP ratepayers to the general fund. It's illegal, and I can tell you that money is being spent every year on this. We actually Monday have a new appeal of that that it is. Okay. That it is okay to do that. And we are appealing the idea that there was a lawsuit settlement that allowed this basic quarter of a billion dollars going from DWP ratepayers to the general fund that don't benefit the ratepayers every year. We've appealed class action that we thought was so. Error and Monday, we were answering that appeal we're gonna continue to appeal it because we think this is part of the cozy relationship. What happens is the city council gets a big hit in the general fund as you said from the DWP ratepayers for money that should stay according to some recent ballot measures with the DWP rapier shit, the city, the city council looks the other way would crazy stuff. Like this happens DWP, the city attorney is on all both of these issues. The city attorney blesses this crazy settlement that's in violation of the ballot measures the city, turning Mike fear also teams up with the WPA against the ratepayers. In terms of settling the Billy case in the way, that's beneficial to ratepayers to the DWP problems get resolved, but keeps everything quiet mean. There's no discovery in that billing case, which means we don't really know how much of this was a software problem. Some of it was versus a human problem because WPA bureaucracy rivals.

I believe the accountability could be better in LA. But there are Cleveland Cleveland has a model DWP Kansas City has Kansas City lights. I mean, there's some amazing amazing municipal utilities actually smut is one of the best ones. Frankly, they got an amazing public records and transparency provisions. So we can make this great and. You know, we've got to take that leap and be bold. And you know, here's a governor. Who was bowled in California did medical marijuana before was popular get married for his popular? This could put him on on the charts. Again, it's a risk. But there's infrastructure. They're not starting from nothing. Their workers. There are people who need jobs unions. We'll play ball with the government owned entity. Just like they did with PG, and there are people to train those jobs trains and do those jobs. So this is really a buyout and the government. Yes takeover, but there's a ready and infrastructure that needs to be retrained re prioritize a culture needs to change, but you're not starting from zero. And in fact, there a radio San Francisco municipal municipal utility. That was just started that could probably suck up a lot of the infrastructure here. There's also the option of local municipal utilities in different regions that through eminent domain take over parts of PGN. And there a lot of us want to get that running their backed by Bonn. "So I clicked into this fater article like entrusted. So apparently, according to the fater last weekend. Nicki Menaj was due to headline DWP festival in Shanghai. I didn't know a DWP was apparently it's stands for Jakarta warehouse project, which is an annual festival in Bali. Almost sounds fake. Let's, but so days before this website actually was like before this does what was supposed to happen. They pulled all DWP branding off the site and claimed no affiliation. Even though they had booked all of these musical acts and had sold all of these tickets under the guise that it was this, right?
