"Of course, Dart was shut down. Then people couldn't get home. Roads were closed. And people are just kind of wandering around wondering. Okay. How do I get to where I'm going? There wasn't really any panic or anything like that. But there was obviously, uh, mood of uncertainty and concern and maybe a little bit of fear. I have to once again take my hat off to the officers of the DPD who just really showed confidence, competence and professionalism. I was really, really impressed by the DPD that night. Well, it, uh if you were there until three o'clock 306 am the suspect was confirmed dead after the standoff with police and Chief David Brown said later. The suspect, um, was killed in the explosion. Could youth hear or see any of the gunfire any of the standoff itself? Uh, no. I was back at the newsroom at that point, literally leaving and talking to Eric and telling him nothing was going to happen about the time that that was happened starting Now you did mention of the bomb. Um and funny. You should mention that I was literally standing there getting ready to do another live hit with Eric. And I heard a thump. And thought it might have been a flash bang. It might have been a gas grenade or something like that. I thought something was happening, those the guy standing next to me and I looked at him. He looked at me and literally at the same time we both said. Did you just hear that? And Eric and I kind of in the days and weeks afterward, we kind of put our heads together and we reviewed the time light. And both of us came to the conclusion that that was the bomb going off that I heard. Right, right. Well, it, uh you know, it's a very solemn day and It's probably something you will remember for the rest of your life. Like many of us here in Dallas, um, it just You think back on this, And you know the what if abound. Yeah. Where do you go with this? Where do you go with that? As we went through the timeline. It was just a progression of finding one police officer after another..

"And the whole plan was to move the robot to a point against the wall facing Johnson and detonate the explosive. It exploded as intended, killing Johnson immediately. The robot while sustaining damage was still functional. Believe it or not, Um, it was later discovered that Johnson had scrawled the letters R B. In his own blood while in the college, apparently after being wounded while making his way up Stair wall, the meanings of RB another markings he made still to this day or unclear, though. Investigators did attempt to discover what he was talking about. Um, During the negotiations, chief Brown at the time, said Johnson declared he had placed explosives in downtown Dallas. But When they swept downtown. They found they found No explosives. Five police officers were killed. Nine other officers and two civilians were injured. Most of the victims were shot during the protest. At least one Other during the shootout. The dead Comprised. Four Dallas police officers from D P D. In one Dallas area Rapid Transit dart officer. Four of the injured officers were from DPD. Three were from Dart and two were from all Central College. Seven of the injured officers were treated at you may have seen the video Parkland Memorial. Two other officers underwent surgery. One civilian was shot in the back of the leg. The officers that were killed that we're remembering today. Was DPD senior Corporal, Um Lauren Arun's age 48. "What's it like producing and putting together something like this for these big screens and all the coordination. That's gotta be crazy. Well it is. And it's absolutely just. I i i have to pinch myself. I'm i'm very lucky. I'm very blessed that that i get to do it. But it's because these shows are so unique. The artist also takes them differently you know. These artists have touring down. They know the stadium life. They know what that experience is like. And so for this when we get to spend a lot of intimate time with the artists to really craft something that is uniquely special. And and it's it's for one night you don't get to see it ever again and so We've had a ton of fun working with the with specifically john but the whole bon jovi family on this one they have been Super super in tune to what we're doing And in fact. There's a fun little story that john is actually supposed to play later in the season but as he kind of investigated what we were doing and spent more time learning about what we were doing I got an email a few weeks ago out of the blue and he said hey. I think i would like if it's okay with you. I'd like us to be the very first one. This season and i took that as a great big honor since especially since. This isn't the first. This is not your first rodeo. since you're from texas. I figured i could use that one all right. That's right the production quality on this is going to be top notch right us all the same vendors as as organizations like the grammys and these productions are ultra personal to the artist and so I'm not going to reveal any secrets. But by the the bon jovi will be broadcast from a location. That means a great deal to the band and And that's we saw that last year. Metallica from a vineyard in napa on a gravel road never in in in your life where you ever see but will you ever see metallica playing on a gravel road somewhere but it was. They had a unique connection to the vineyard and they wanted to do something that was just completely different than they would ever be allowed to do inside of an arena or stadium and so every single show is uniquely personal to the artist. And we really we take that very seriously. And so the fans i think will be very surprised and delighted When they when they find out where bon jovi's playing from and why they pick that location and and and so it's it'll be a very special evening but from the technical side of things it is. I spare no expense type of an operation. We invest a substantial amount of money into every single one of these productions to make sure that the that the fan leaves saying that was way better than what i was expecting. And the person the pudding with almost a million fans that came to our shows. Last year we had a ninety five point. Six percent net positive promoter score and eighty nine percent of our customers told us that that was a way better experience than what they were counting on and almost all of my customer said if given the choice between seeing that band and a live concert or in this format they would choose this format. If you've got somebody convinced they want to go do this is what can they go. Go to on coordinates dot com. And i think there's two important things that you can do from their number one just join our mailing list so you can be the first to find out about all of our.

Good day internet at patriotair dot com slash dpd s. Let's start with a few things you should know. Amazon has discontinued its prime pantry. Grocery and household item service products previously available in pantry will now be available like any other products on amazon. So it's not going away to gather but the service itself prime pantry launched in twenty fourteen offering reduced shipping on up to forty five pounds of household goods for a monthly fee. Amazon node vied prime pant pantry subscribers about the closure in december and then issued refunds the. Uk's competition and markets authority launched an investigation into google's privacy sandbox. That would block third party. It's also heavier and thicker overall but it also now starts at five hundred forty nine dollars instead of one thousand dollars. That has a thirteen point. Volkswagen said last month that they needed to adjust first-quarter manufacturing plans around the globe because of the shortage. Now honda says it will cut domestic output by about four thousand cars this month at one of its factories in japan nissan is adjusting production numbers for its note hatchback model and ford has moved up previously planned downtime at a kentucky plant for its sport utility vehicle factory to the jin chips all right. Well we're talking about cars. Let's talk about the the apple car. Yeah a lot of rumors as of late will really over the last few years. But but but the rumors had resurfaced recently and hyundais. Now talking to apple about kerr's so says the company hyundai representative told cnbc quotes. We understand that apple isn't discussion with a variety of global automakers including hyundai motor as the discussion is at its early stage. Nothing has been decided. Korean economic daily said that apple suggested the arrangements and hundred was reviewing the terms that involved e production and also battery development hyundai has had his own battery platform called e. g. m. p. going into production later this year. So might be saying what you're doing. Reuters sources say that apple would like to produce a passenger vehicle by twenty twenty four however might not be that date bloomberg's mark gurman reports in thomas e. v. from apple is five to seven years away and michio recently said he wouldn't be surprised if it takes until twenty twenty eight. Yes what's probably going on. Here is apple and i think this significant part has decided to start investigating how they would build. Whatever it is. They're going to build whether it's a whole car or an integrated platform and they're going to different manufacturers and parts suppliers and folks like magna including hyundai. And saying what are you got. How can you help us with this. And is a great company for this because they make parts they make systems. They make full cars. There's all kinds of services in the conday company that could play a part with apple so it may not be. That apple knows what they want from hyundai. It may just be that they're going and saying hey let's talk. You do a lot of the kinds of things that we think we're going to need. I'm pretty excited about this. I just got my first hyundai ever this year and my perception of this story was weight but hyundai currently uses android auto and a lot of their their cars. So i would love to see. How apple would integrate Hyundai's current technologies into something that is very useful for that apple ecosystem not just looking at e itself but also the The the systems inside of it the controls in how they would manage that four a driver and a passenger in the car. Yeah i mean. I think that's one of the big questions that i have is okay. Let's say let's say it's hyundai that that applet ended up working with with clearly not set in stone at least from what we know at this point. But let's say it's the companies for kicks. Let's imagine that that's what it is. Yeah it is. It is an apple car that hyundai produces a lot of parts for the way that works with lots of other companies to produce other hardware for apple. I mean that that's the loftiest kind of goal that we're looking at and maybe that would take till twenty twenty eight at you know if if apple was lucky. I think it probably has more to do with like you said shannon not that you know android auto wouldn't still be prevalent in a lot of passenger vehicles but maybe at some sort of it's a special relationship. It's it's a special kind of os inside a car that is supposed to you. Know i don't know move some merch because What apple is providing on the software side is is. Is that much more interesting. I really don't know if you look at that. Bloomberg article mark gurman sources are saying that Tesla people that apple has hired are working on things like interior exterior. Drive train stereo. Desist the kinds of things. You need when you're building a car not carting a software platform so then the question becomes is it the apple car period. Maybe hendaye makes it. Maybe somebody else makes it. And you know they'll figure out how to distribute it or is it the apple car by sunday and you go to hyundai dealership to buy it the way you went to an. At and t. store to an apple iphone but it's really apples car in cooperation with sunday. Are there multiple partners. I mean that's all the kind of stuff we're waiting to see but it really does feel like we have gotten to the point where this is no longer just yeah. They're working on project titan. They don't know what they're gonna do to. They have an idea. It's more than just software and they're working out the details. Maybe they don't even know that yet. Well i'm interested to see what happens but we also have some other news. Security among the systems impacted by the solar winds attack is the electron filing system. Used by the us federal courts at investigation is underway to determine if confidentiality of documents filed with the courts was breached and as a result starting wednesday confidential documents filed with the courts will be stored on standalone systems. Not uploaded big difference so these are documents sealed from public access because they contain sensitive information like investigative techniques identities of informants and a lot more other. Us federal agencies affected included the justice department the state treasury and energy departments as well solar winds has engaged. The krebs stay most security consulting group to help deal with this attack. That firm was formed by alex. Stamos the former chief security officer at yahoo and facebook and chris krebs the former director of the us cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency or sisa. So krebs was fired last month. By the president after finding no evidence of with voting systems in the twenty twenty election. Yeah stamos first of all brilliant for those two to team up and smart for solar winds to engage them for what they say is Helping with transparency with companies that are affected But this we we are not done finding out how bad this is. There are reports that there may have been other ways that this whoever is behind this intruded beyond just solar winds. They're finding evidence of that. They have not been able to root out the people that got into this vulnerability from all systems yet. They're still in there in a lot of cases. And you know this. This kind of confidential information is exactly the kind of thing you fear that someone would get intruding into a government system informants investigative techniques that you can now learn from to evade being prosecuted or caught yourself. That's that's crown jewel type stuff it's it's very interesting. In fact krebs spoke on record saying that it could potentially take years to figure out how deep the solar winds attack actually went and how many different kinds of infrastructure. You know brands and everything that it might have affected so this is not something. That's going to die anytime soon. I'm glad that they are reaching out. Craig's and stay most though because that i agree with you tom. It's excellent. excellent team roku made a few interesting announcements roku says. Npd data shows that the roku s was the top selling smarter operating system in the us and canada in two thousand twenty thirty one percent market share in canada. Thirty eight percent in the united states That's pushed the samsung's tizen number two. At least we don't actually know samsung's ties and was number. One in two thousand nineteen also announced a wireless soundbar reference design that uses wifi for its roku. Tv ready program remember. Last year roku announced the program which had a designed for wired. Sound bars. The program includes tcl. Pokemon on an element has just announced. They'll join as well with two point. Two point one ready sound bars roku tv ready to expand internationally later this year as well. But here's the big roku news roku has agreed to acquire exclusive global distribution rights to more than seventy five Shows documentaries some of which had not been released before qube shutdown. So there'll be some new stuff that nobody's ever seen after their exclusivity deal expires. That'll happen in a bit more than a year. Depending on the show roku will still have the rights to show the content just not exclusively until thousand twenty seven the content will have to be presented in original increments of ten minutes or less. The deal doesn't let them stitch it altogether. The content will be added to the more than forty thousand movies and tv shows already available. In the roku channel shows include from Be anyway punked. Murder house. Flip and dummy which stars anna kendrick. I never watched the new punk. I heard had its moments. The whole qube thing. It's really interesting to me because it was sort of like. It crashed and burned so quickly. And there's a lotta shot and friday around folks in the industry about it. And i think that's not because qube was doing things wrong. It was because the company had raised so much money time. Because you know. They had meg whitman. Jeffrey katzenberg who are you know. Heavy hitters and there was a little bit of like you are being to embassies and therefore you shall fail. The company did fail and the idea that some creators will have a new life on another platform shows. That just don't even saw but people still worked on. And maybe you're really good. I think this this makes a lotta sense and good for roku to get exclusivity for at least a few years so does roku have to wait at all in order to start showing this content or can happen immediately. I don't know when the start date. Whenever the deal is you know goes into effect. Then they'll immediately be able to to show it so you know within a month or so it would be my guess anyway but no they. They don't have once. The deal is actually in effect. They don't have to wait. What's going on here. is that the baby. Production companies own the rights to their own stuff but they have a two year exclusive for each one of their shows with qube and those two year exclusives are now being transferred to roku so roka will be able to have the exclusive for the remainder of whatever. The period was with quick. That's why it's more a year. Exclusively goes away then they still have the right to show it until twenty twenty seven but the production companies that made it can now start shopping at around to other places as well so the production companies do hold the content and remember this is just the content. Qube is still in a over. Its turnstile technology which is holding it up from selling its technology and i would expect once it resolves that lawsuit should resolve it in a way that they still hold their technology. They'll sell that to so this isn't the last you're going to hear could be selling off a part of it. I would imagine. Gotcha yeah that whole. The whole technology part of qube was again was an ambitious thing that was released at a very inopportune time in twenty twenty when everyone was like. We're just sitting at home like we don't need this like mobile phone technology. It's like cool that you can shifted around but you can't even cast thing. I mean the company did fix that pretty soon after allow about she was just. I mean it's just did. The timing couldn't be worse but that technology when you think of it in a variety of other form factors such as monitors that swivel talked about some of those yesterday. I don't know that qube or tiktok or snapchat or all of the stuff where we're like. Oh yeah that's the. That's the portrait view. Rather than landscape view. That works for certain apps is is is all that this is four. I think there's more to it So we'll see what happens and there's patents and things that are always valuable because you can use those to extract some concessions and money and stuff. So yeah expect that all to come join the conversation in our discord which you can join by linking to a patriotic. Can't get in there and talk about your favourite qube shows with all the other discord folks. Just lincoln to your patriotic out at patriotair dot com slash. Dpd s all right shannon. How do you clone a security key. Well i i will say please do not stop using your security keys because of this story i will explain it. Researchers from ninja lab published a paper on thursday showing how you could clone a google tightened security gate this is a two factor authentication key which is very similar to a you. Be key that you have to plug in or tap in order to access an account after putting in your username or your password credentials. Were both so in order to pull off the clone. You would need physical access to the key for about ten hours. Sometimes a minimum of ten hours just kind of depends on how good you are at this. About twelve thousand dollars worth of equipment physical equipment and custom software and some advanced skills in electrical engineering and cryptography as well. So you have to remove the chip and then take measurements of it at a being registered on each account that you went to attack the measurements observe electro magnetic radiation as the chip generates digital signatures that let the attacker slowly deduced the private key so measurements take about six hours per account. That's not including taking apart. The original tighten security key putting it back together. Then you need to seal the chip back into its case. You also need the targets password in order for this to work. So the reason it works is because of vulnerability in the security hardware chip residing within the google titan key and that is called an eighty seven hundred x by this company called. Xp if it's exploited in attacker could grab the elliptic curve cryptographic private key for the account and the same chip is actually found in other two factor. Authentication physical tokens as well like There's a ubiquity that it's found in but chances of attack or very very minimal given the scope of the attack so if you do all of this without the target ever noticing then they would never duplicated key but again given the scope given how much it costs and everything behind the scenes probably when it happened to normal user. The point of these security keys being the best way to use For two factor. Is that you can't even get at your private key right you. Nobody has to be able to get in there like the chip. Just doesn't make it available so the fact that they were able to get in there and get it is huge. You know the fact that they were able to do this is significant. But i mean if you're not a target of an advanced persistent threat. You don't need to worry about this. No one's going to go to the trouble to do this. And even if you're a target. I would guess shannon that most of them probably would be able to notice if someone took their key for ten hours or more you. You likely likely would especially since a lot of people with hardware tokens like google titan will stick them on a on their keychain for example like with their house keys or whatever wherever they keep all those personal physical devices that they don't want lost or stolen they keep them all on engaging so if somebody was to take one of these out of your purse out of your gym locker wherever it might be and remove it for like ten hour street minimum. You would likely know that this would have happened. the neat thing about these chips inside of these. Google tightened security keys. And any other cryptographic hardware tokens like these is that. Even the manufacturer doesn't know the private key so the fact that they were able to find vulnerability on these specific chipsets is really interesting. And i think that's the important bit of that. Is is even though the google titan like the end all be all of really excellent. Two factor authentication. There's always. The potential that vulnerabilities can be found. So i'm happy that this research came out. It's so fascinating and it's so interesting in this means that an x. p. and other security chipset manufacturers that sell these teeny tiny chips to google or whoever the company might be They can build on this. They can research and figure out what the next version of their chipset needs to entail in order to not be vulnerable to this again in the future. Yeah i mean this is really a good security story right. We finally figured out because there's always a way right. We finally figured out the way you get the private key out of a security key and guess what it's really hard takes a long time and now that we know it we can make it even harder and hopefully you know push that barrier out even further and even if somebody did have time to do this and you didn't notice i was reading the paper because i'm a huge nerd and they go as far as using fuming fuming nitric acid in order to get like melt the epoxy off of the original google titan. How are you going to put that back together. In order for somebody to not notice like there's a lot of intricacies with this attack in order for it to actually be pulled off so chances are very very slim that somebody would be able to pull off so again as i said at the very beginning. Don't stop using your google tightened security key if you have one keep using it because chances are you would never be attacked with this. Just just know if you haven't seen it in ten hours look together strange. This is going to be in a movie though. I'm calling that shot right now. We're gonna we're gonna see this movie. Where like i hope so. Somebody goes into surgery and they take his key and they go out and do all this and they slip it back in because ten hours later. He wakes up from anesthesia on something like that. I just hope they talked to the researchers so they actually show it off right. Yeah Sony tv and audio announcements Starting with details for its own tv lineup. Sticking with lead ravi x four k and k. Tv's will support four k at one hundred twenty hertz variable refresh rate vr as well as a l l m low latency mode and e arc. These are all things that are important. Another big one for ps five dolby vision hdr angle tv. Sony also announced. It's three hundred sixty reality audio platform if you're not familiar with three hundred sixty degree audio places instruments and vocals in a virtual sound field around your head but using just the one speaker so you can do this in an amazon echo or google. Home sony will start streaming video with three sixty audio later this year. Starting with concert from zara larsson on january eleventh. And somebody's gonna make speakers that support this. It'll be may supported by other speakers as well. But sony is going to put out the are five thousand and three thousand They've got that dark cloth. Surface that all these speakers seem to have these days with either bronze or silver accents. Work with google and amazon assistance and can connect to select sony abroad via. Tv's as well as supporting wi fi bluetooth. Spotify connect in google cast. The speakers do automated calibration to the room. They're in donut. The press a button for that. Either and we'll simulate three hundred sixty degree audio for stereo tracks as well. The five thousand cost five hundred pounds or five hundred ninety nine euros no. Us price yet on the three thousand two hundred eighty pounds. Three hundred fifty nine euros. This seems this. Seems like it's shaping up to be one of the trends. Is this the sort of three hundred sixty degree audio while you're listening to your black bank and it's just one speaker or potentially a couple of speakers ativan. Maybe yeah yeah already supported. Yeah there's less of kind of like What do i have to do. Five point one surround or at least get a couple of speakers and make them a stereo pair type thing. I really haven't heard this in. I don't know. I used to hang out at magnolia at best. Buy all the time. And just like geek out on stuff like this. of course. this technology wasn't around at the time. But it's really come on. Let's turn on some stuff and see the speakers. Do it works well. Then that's awesome my first reaction because i got rid of my kind of pants speakers some years ago because friend of mine needed them more than i did and i didn't have room in my apartment but i miss that i'm also an a. A permanent now that's smaller and kind of has a lot of weird angles and i find audio bounces off walls in wiz. That wouldn't if it was more of a square box broom So i'm not sure that i'm the perfect target market for this. You're the you're the one puts this through its paces and sees if it really works. Yeah if i could actually work as advertised again with some funny angles in a big old frame. Then i'm i'm really into this and i've always been. I don't have a sony. Tv currently sorry zony. But i was abroad. Bravi a person for years. Nears i think what the new bravi line is coming out with. Looks really nice. And i mean not totally in the market for a new tv. But i like the fact that i might get a new sony again paired up with a sony speaker. You got three six. Yeah already got all this stuff. It's going to be a messed anyway. You slice it. But i like. I like this to be sixty reality audio platform. What would you have set up in your house. I was straight up going to mention sonos because if if it doesn't have the connectability to be able to work with all of my other platforms that currently have invested in. Then chances are i wouldn't buy it. So i do have sono says in my house and i do have some issues connecting those with other speakers in the household to like like my google hub for example so the fact that this works with google and amazon assistant the speaker specifically The audio speakers. I think that's pretty cool. I like that. They are bringing that in and i am interested because i do live in a household. That has very high ceilings. How this would work in that kind of environment. So yeah. I'm very interested in the audio aspect. Well you might also be interested in what colour has come out. Oh yes the folks who make things like toilets and and sinks and lots of appliances however. Been a real. Cas mainstay for the last few years for some cool innovations and this year is no different. Even though we're not in vegas koehler has a new smart bathtub called the stillness bath. That lets you use an app or use your voice using google or amazon's assistance to fill up the water or perhaps set the mood by changing the color of the lights around the tab or even add some fog. You know you wanna kind of pretend like you're in the then present routines also turn on features in a certain orders if you wanna get kind of creative. that's cool. Yeah the certain amount of limitations with the base model and the base model is not cheap so temperature and depth control models alone will cost around eight thousand six hundred ninety eight dollars. That's right it's almost nine thousand dollar bathtub. If you want the experience tower that lets you activate fog and aromatherapy. That will run you just over ten thousand dollars. Both models are available in july. There are real things and if you want the version with lights and floor grades for overflow fifteen thousand nine hundred ninety eight dollars available. This october signed me off. I won't be buying those. Nope not even a little bit but we could have taken a bath at s in the new in the pre show roger was like. Why would you want fog. It's like this. Why does anyone want to be on. Yeah racist luxury suites in hotels for sure as well as apple's houses sure yeah something well. Yeah it's it's that like hey look at what my bath can do people go. Wow very fancy and then you know ten years from now will be like remember when we thought it was fancied to talk to your bathtub so that it would start filling up without touching it but Yeah it's it's somewhat silly because of the price. But i'm not really much of a bath person but they do look very nice all right. Let's check out the mail bag but ads do it. Nick wrote in with a pronunciation. Ramps own neck. You are not alone he says. Ac's rog is an initial list. Because it's our og like fbi or cia. People say ron yet. They're lower end gaming brand tough not initially them. "Perfect balance Samba. And there you have it. And this is from the Denver Safety survey. First of all the fact they call it a safety survey is a joke. They should've called it The Denver Defund Police survey because that's what it is 100%. So let's start with the first question. I'm just going to rip through these because we're only gonna be going for about another 12 minutes before baseball kicks in, So let's jump in. Dave, I'd like you to respond to these questions. If you could. You're going to be my survey E. Do you want me to respond? Honestly? Yes. I want you to respond honestly, because I know what you're going to say. But, you know, do you believe that the Denver Police Department effectively prevents crime in Denver? Yes, I wouldn't. Yeah. It says Yes, I believe the DPD effectively prevents crime in Denver or no. I do not believe that the DPD effectively prevents crime in Denver. Yes or no. I don't accept the premise of the question. So you don't get to answer that question. You have to answer in that case. I say yes, I believe they do. OK. Do you believe that The DPD effectively solves crimes in Denver? Yes, I believe they do. No, I do not believe they solve crimes. Yes, OK. Does the DPD make you feel safe? Yes. Okay. If you ever had to call 911. What service did you call to request Select all that might be a might apply. You could call fire emergency medical technician, police, social or human services by the way, instead of just saying social services, they say, social and then in parentheses they put or human services because they're counting on people answering this survey that are not smart enough to know what social services is, or they've pulled. The social services has a negative connotation. Because people don't know what it means. Or they think it's just child protective services taking their kids away. That's what that is. So if you ever called police, Dave No. There's also have never called 900. And that's what I say. In 2020 the DPD received a budget of $254,232,367. Do you believe that to 3 254,232,637 is too little of the budget to large of a budget or just about right for the DPD adequately to do their jobs now. All three answers have the number So they have to 254,232,367 is too little of a budget for the DPD. 254,232,367 is too large a budget or 250 for you See what they're doing? They're repeating the number over and over again. They want you to see it over and over and over again, so you'll choke on it. Not realizing that that is dwarfed by the the money spent on education right now, Dwarf nine. My answer is too little. Yeah. In 2020. The DPD received a budget of guess how much Dave? 254 million to over 30 exactly 367. Do you believe that any of these dollars should be removed from the DPD duck budget and directly reallocate ID too Social Parentheses or human services. No. Hell no. Okay. No, Hell no was not an option. But no is an option there on DH, Then they add this. The following definition has been added for convenience. Ah collective bargaining agreement is a written legal contract between an employer and a union representing the employees. The C B. A is the result of an extensive negotiation process between the parties regarding topics such as wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment. And then the next question. Did you know that the DPD has the collective bargaining agreement written with the Denver City Charter? A k a Constitution? Yes, I do know that the DPD has a collective or No, You did know that. Okay. Now here goes if the DPD collective bargaining agreement written into the Denver City Charter prevents the city of Denver for removing dollars from the DPD budget. Would you vote to amended the Denver City Charter, with the purpose of removing dollars from the DPD budget and directly reality wrote those dollars to social or human services. Now, here's the interesting thing. Yes is first. No is second and then I still need more information to make a decision on a charter amendment. So at least they're open to people saying, I don't know. No, you? Yeah, I know you're going to say no. I should have just said you should lie. But I still wouldn't know if you were lying What you would be saying. Would you approve the removal of dollars from the DPD budget to directly reallocate those dollars to social or human services? Yes or no? Hell, No. Do you want the city of Denver to remove dollars from the DPD budget.

I mean, after all, I mean, you know, when companies like Wal Mart give $100 million? Obviously, they must be really legitimate. Hey, when companies like Wal Mart remove the all lives matter T shirts they have they were selling on their website or in their stores. Whatever all lives matter, they remove that they're like we're so sorry. That is clearly racist. Obviously white lives don't matter. Go kill a white person. But they obviously Ah, celebrate the murder in the cups, but they obviously don't want him. Right. Well, let's see here. I have Some interesting statistics from an article entitled No Police. Racism isn't an epidemic in a 2015 Gallup poll. Taken after Michael Brown. Was killed in Ferguson obviously got himself killed. A majority of black respondents said police treat them fairly. And far more blacks than whites said they quote want a greater police presence in their local communities. They want more cops. 38%. Far more blacks than whites, 38% of Black said We want Mawr police in our communities versus only 18% white so literally 20% more blacks. Then whites want greater police in there. Community. Another Gallup survey published in 2019 Ask black and Hispanic residents of low income neighborhoods about policing and found that these groups black and Latino are not averse to law enforcement. In fact, they're particularly concerned about crime in their neighborhoods. 59% Of blacks and Hispanics. Said they would like the police to spend more time in their area than they currently dio, making them more than likely than white residents to respond this way. Isn't that interesting? Y'all Isn't that interesting? Yeah. So blacks and Hispanics want more cops in the neighborhoods. And whites. Do they want more police? What you're hearing from black lives matter, God haters. And LGBT Q activists. That black folks supposedly want less cops. You know, the real victim in is all this night. I heard today a 1,000,000 times I heard over the weekend a 1,000,000 times. I've said it to you, but it's just It's so. So true. The real victim are the people whose kids are getting murdered and whose daughters and sons are getting murdered. "Mean this is right up the line, and then before I said this last week, and now it's there's GonNa be one of the things, maybe a national database. That looks at where these officers and what they've been doing. Offers have been department jumping. If you had some problems whether department and your written out, he had disciplined that you go to another apartment and like this officer up in Minneapolis. Eighteen disciplinary complete well. Yeah, yeah, but the thing is this eighteen. This very complaints and everybody's not lying on eighteen different lie on you, so there's gotta be something there that says. What is wrong with this person now in that group? What they do is. You are a supervisor. We see a person had a great number can point. You should think that person on the street or that person shouldn't be a police officer with weeks of financing. Unions because I grew up with. But the fact is that. The unions have it's like that is very difficult to fire person and you just have to understand that they have bad people too, and they cannot continue to harbor or high someone. That has continued to do things that I remember. When I was chief. I had some unique boss. They said yeah, this guy, a bad apple that we have to represent him a her, but This guy shouldn't be a police officer and I even. Before the example that sends out to me I used to have what was called cheap series like a trial and the judge and jury and so This officer, he was in his forties. And at that time marijuana was illegal and this officer. I think this is third time of using marijuana. And so it came before me and I remember reading about this. I had to decide the case. And I said Oh This is your third offence. He's war well, cheap. That's not right. That's what do you mean is I was eating those poppy seeds? Okay, so you even poppy seed and you were tested and showed that you had been using marijuana. He said well Sir I'm seeing. That that's. The let me get this right now. This is what you're saying. But the the doctors who examined you said it was marijuana wasn't poppy. They, said well. She I object Thoreau. Let's look at this this way. These are the rules at this point. I said I. Want to agree with this law, but this is the law and these are the ruins. I said so if you come back again, but a fire you. and. Thank you chief. He said well. He came back again. But see this is over a period of time. That it continued and continued and continued, and some people some of that learn that Kinda like the disciplinary thing, if in fact, an officer has eighteen or ten or fifteen complaints. And no one has has taken an excellent to stop him or her. It leads to the situation that we have right now. Well Isaiah, McKinnon. Thank you so much for your time on daily, Detroit today Sir Great You through pleasure..

"There is no doubt that America has a real problem with race. We are a nation that espouses ideals of equality, and even though the last slaves were freed on this day in eighteen, sixty, five under the law, only a figment of equality happened fifty years ago or so with the Civil Rights Act I mean it wasn't even legal to marry someone from another race in all of this country until nineteen sixty seven, and even then the truth. Is that there? There are constant and a horrible issues across our nation with law, enforcement, race and poverty so Freddie conversation with former Detroit, police chief former Detroit deputy mayor and educator. Ike McKinnon he served decades in the community. He loves, and has some pretty bold ideas for what we could do to reimagined would've police department is ideas. You might not expect to hear out of a former police chief. All of that on your daily Detroit I'm baer stays. Let's get started. So before we get going here sir. We ask our guests how they would like to be referred to in your case Isaiah Ikey chief Mckinnon what you prefer most of the people for some reason. They tend to call me I. You know I mean they that I was shaping deputy mayor, you know. That was a professional those kinds of things, but at some point when they leave the street at bay put. I Mackinnon. And it's really interesting on the streets here in Detroit. People tend to call me I. Pay No me, that's okay. That's a good thing for a chief of police is a good thing. Community relations I mean I feel like that's always a constant challenge as a law enforcement officer, because it's not just arresting people I think it's it's also about interacting with the community. Right absolutely absolutely, and you're right and I think that most people feel that we that there's a well we. We know like he's been around for a long time, but he's always treated as well. And even the younger people who They probably would have chief, but they still say what if they you know they percents of endearment term of endearment and say that so, what does it look like to treat the community well from where you sit? Well! I'M GONNA fly back to how I was treated young boy. And there was a total disassociation I. Think from. The community in multiple spent. People that. This one officer I was at Lincoln Elementary School. And I never had any interaction whatsoever with the police. And particularly white police officer, but this man came to my school. I was going to fifth grade, and this guy was so good that wow, you know. This man, he had all of us kids all. Young kids of color. And he's tweeting US and making a lab is treating. Like our dad. was I even thinking about being police, somebody boy. That's the way you treat people. And to treat them well, and and treat them as with respect and so forth. And I've always tried to do that and so I think that people tend to. Associate themselves with people who treat them well, and that's the way that I feel. If, I community well I can feel good, and they'll feel good. It will vote on the relationship with with each other you know reminds me of What am I old? Bosses talked about the concept of servant leadership. Is that something you Kinda? Subscribe to absolutely absolutely. When I took that over the law enforcement officer I really took that believe that it's your servant potentially community. The first paragraph says that the law was office. My fundamental duty is to serve the community to safeguard lies property take the incident gives deception the week of suppression of. Respecting Constitutional Rights all liberty on justice, and that's what I try..

P. reporter he's been at so many of these things including the press conference today with the governor and mayors and chiefs of police and so definitely want to all we have no curfew in Arlington that we just got that no curfew in Arlington do you understand the city of Arlington after a night of chaos in writing including if you will from Arlington they literally have no care for the next day have they not learned yet in the two towns were curfews have been established in fourth and fourth in Dallas tonight there is no chaos as of right now thank god it's gonna Clayton W. W. B. A. P. reporter with the latest you've been out and all these meetings in a lot of these protests in writing how are you Sir Chris doing well it is a pretty relatively calm evening at least comparatively said last Friday at least for now knock on wood as we say that there been several protests the bike today the majority of things in Dallas happened during the day as the governor was in town although we're seeing some other demonstrations in places like Arlington as you said in fort worth big one down in Houston tonight as well yeah Houston one might be a concern I guess we'll we'll stand by to see but on today for example you at the presser with the governor and the mayor is the chief of police for Dells and fourth respectively and right after you know the governor and the mayor is all saying you know peacefully protest followed by all the rules and we want to be able to do that what happened right after that that you observed as a reporter with the protesters right outside well you know that was the plea is for people to use their best judgment and not to fall victim for lack of a better term to these instigators who they are they do say are out there and then immediately when I walked outside there was a rally that you'd suit was a protest that was scheduled was going on and they were about to March was there marching one of the leaders to add a megaphone stood up she marched down the steps of city hall and before they enter the street the leader said that you know they talk about peaceful protests I'm tired of peaceful protest we've been doing peaceful protest for too long they tell us to stay out of the road let's take over this road in those were her words they didn't walk into the road walked about half a block or so before getting back on the sidewalk and then they were on and off street and sidewalk for the rest of their March but that kind of gives you that edge that we're dealing with here about some people how is this particular case different than some of the others that we've been here before Trayvon Martin you know the Eric garner the list goes on and on and they say that they're fed up things aren't stopping and it's just that bad yet was that tipping point who knows what it was maybe it was the pandemic it was just that if it is what it is and in that it certainly exists and I think that a lot the point though is that right after our governor just inside of the building there and mayors and chiefs of police said Hey we don't we stand for your protest do you support you but just please please follow the rules they merely defy the rules yeah and the you know the rules of meeting the law I think one thing that yeah well that's what DPD is differentiating between no pro testing peacefully at which they have no problem with in fact this is a rare case because a lot of government leaders a lot of police chiefs officers are coming out in the open the saying you know we stand with you we don't think what happened to George white was right so that makes it unique but where they draw the line is when the law is broken and that doesn't mean necessarily throwing a rock through a window yeah it means violating is seven or eight o'clock curfew and it means they're keeping in order or in places that you're stressed you W. B. A. P. reporter Clinton level are the protesters the same people as the riders looters out and conversely other writers lose the same people that are participating in the protests earlier that a peaceful the time they don't my experience is over the last fortnight that it is a different crowd right now that's not to designate all of the people who are looting into one particular group but designating the people who are activists as we call them the people who we see a lot of these marches a lot of people who are carrying signs you know who obviously planned at twelve o'clock that they were going to go to a two o'clock protest that kind of thing those people or one group they're going to go on the courthouse steps they're going to March across the bridge and they may even sit down and risk arrest but if this other group of people that you know but honestly it feels like when you're in the middle of it come out of no where pick up a break in talks of through a window and then run off and all the sudden you're like wow I am in a different pocket than I was two minutes ago as I walk through downtown that's the feeling I've gotten over the last four days so a little bit of both but there's certainly a difference and you can tell when you're in the moment a Clayton D. tell me more about what you've learned with the chief to fall and the arrests on the bridge last night the culture of a bridge and with a charge or not charge and what went down with all that last night that you've learned so the chief says that charges will be filed if not already she says charges are pending against that more than a hundred people who marched on to the Margaret hunt hill bridge and that's where the whole spiel about you breaking the law and we understand you're marching but if you break the law which was not impeding the roadway not obstructing the roadway they were going to have to crack down on you so that was one aspect of it that but she opted to do that and she's sticking with it as people get charges in the mail however she did not take these people to jail in the chief said that that was because of our capacity at the jail and county judge clay Jenkins said they didn't want to bring in more people and sell capacity reason that's why the chief says those people were not taken into custody but ensuring that they will be charged Clinton what confounds me it just mystifies me is the seeming stupid me for the clay J. county commissioner to apparently set in eight thirty curfew in for the county area is that where protests have been happening but still not get to the seven o'clock time that the city of Dallas has is that the fact of what's going on tonight yeah you know what that's not even really something that a whole lot of people we didn't know about yeah it's something that has been a measure it's almost like a lot of stuff with the corona virus pandemic at a certain point when you have so many conflicting in differing your concepts or rules or cat whatever you wanna call them then it's almost like throwing it out the window and a lot of people are going by with their particular city has in place yeah so the other thing is I want to ask you this D. it DPS troopers said that the head of the P. S. this afternoon at the press conference with the governor and the mayors and chiefs of police said that they have infiltrated into these groups they have under cover people in the traits they do believe that antifa is in there what what do you know about that their numbers their involvement yeah you know they have these extreme activists are in this group they're identified several different groups antifa is the one that was named by director Steven McCraw Texas DPS and he says that along with those groups there are also people who he calls you know just your everyday criminals who get inspired by these groups so you know may may be a situation where there's a leader now again not to accuse the woman who I saw earlier today but on the a city hall plaza of being a deleted with the group but you have a leader and if that leader brings you to a certain area and instigate something and you're already in a rage it's easy for somebody to kind of pick up and follow suit so these instigators or what people are warning of some criminals locally and then there are some people that are coming in from other groups a little bit about Clayton what about the machete guy that that this happened about six blocks from where offices and studios are the in victory pop ballpark the guy with the machete supposedly defending businesses than getting stoned almost to death well what do you know about the committee's condition and will we'll see provoking them as well or was he really just trying to defend his business now before you answer that can you stand by just for another just for just do a few more these questions including the one I just asked will do are you a stand by Clayton double R. "Game designer and he designed the wonderful product called over world. He's also a friend of the show as well and actually a member of daily Detroit and it's really good to see you sir proud to be a member happy to be here. So what's really great about this and talking to you is that people have been quarantined or cooped up for a few days now. It looks like they're going to be for a little while longer. And you actually have some options for people to get them entertained you know. Maybe they're stuck with their family. Maybe they're stuck by themselves. And and what are they going to do? How do you know what are they gonNa do to keep themselves busy? And I know that we're GonNa Talk About Board Games. There's so much more to the world of Board Games than monopoly. Sure like a lot of people play monopoly APP. You have a lot of fun or or maybe your pursued just doesn't like monopoly may have bad memories of monopoly or maybe you love it either way. I'm here to kind of expand. The horizons of this indoor world that you're living in into the twenty first century of really the new board games that have come out. We'RE GONNA opens people's minds today. We're going to open some minds all right so first. Let's talk about games for when you are by yourself if if you're if you're stuck in the apartment there's no one around except maybe your cat or your dog or no sadly sure what can you do. You know. It's it's amazing and too many people surprising what a Renaissance Solitaire. Board Games are going through if you've played if you had a poker deck and you played by Gillian game the solitaire and you're so bored of it. There are so many vibrant and interesting exciting games out there that you can play Solo Like for example onery. Here's one I've got here that This is just so portable just a little box and then it comes with these cards and this is a this is a world of dreams in which you play these dream cards and as you play them it's like you're wandering through this labyrinth of dreams and the idea. Is You have to play these colors in these symbols in the right order to unlock these mysterious doors. And then you get these These really beautiful cards. That are these mysterious and creepy nightmare. Cards the popout and try to mess up your Your perfect hand that you formed here and I'll mention that I really liked how compact this all isn't. It's basically a card game and it's easy to keep around the house and it's also very active. Oh yeah this is just beautifully done. This is great now. How much time does an average of round of this go of this Owner rim is about fifteen minutes. I mean once you get really used to it it can even faster than that so this is kind of like the same theme is like no or something like that where it's like. There's a different game every time you play. Oh for sure. Absolutely lottery playability. That's awesome now. There's also games for for adults to ones that you know. Let's say you're there with a spouse family member that kind of thing to you know you don't WanNa Watch TV. There's lots of great options out there for sure. So there's been some classics that have come out in the past. Fifteen to twenty years like ticket to ride is probably love to get your. Oh Yeah one of the most venerable classics out there date night game to absolutely absolutely. You're putting your trains down to form a connection between cities on the That are according to the tickets that you have in your hands as a you have to connect Salt Lake City to you. Know to Detroit. Or what have you? It's It's a brilliant game. It's easy to pick up relatively easy to pick up for adults. It's very competitive. Gives you a lot of strategy? A lot of things to think about. And it's it's fairly quick. I WanNa say that one will typically take about forty five minutes okay. Okay and then Another one on this list. That you've got going on is Carcassonne. Oh Yeah That's an amazing game. This is a game where you draw tiles at random from a bag and you add them to a great big map that you're building you're building the board as you go you build the board as you go and then you put your little men on there in order to claim different features on the map as you create this map of a land full of castles. I hear this is also a favorite game of cats to knock things off table. Well you might want to keep the cats away from it. One of the great things about Carcassonne. Let's say you don't like the competitive nature of ticket to ride with. Somebody could cut off the route that you're trying to connect and ticket to ride mongkok own. It's very challenging to to get in your opponents way. You're trying to Ra- race to do something even more exemplary than what they're doing. But you're not necessarily heading off each other to stop or prevent each other from succeeding. So it's more like individual successes against each other as opposed to trying to throw spike strips underneath the other guy absolutely. They'll just look around at the people who are in your home as to whether they're going to get really upset if you are playing a game where you can absolutely destroy everything that they did. Well maybe if you don't WanNa be like that you wanNA play Carcassonne where nobody's really interfering with anybody. You're both just trying to achieve as much can and be the best at it. You had a guest on the show yesterday. Who was a burder yet? Do you know that? Actually the top of the charts of the new hotness is a game about birding called Wingspan by Stone Myer Games. Wow okay so I'm assuming birds are involved. Oh yes at every bird you could possibly imagine. There's a couple of expansions that have different birds. From different continents each card has this gorgeous illustration of a species of bird and then a little bit of flavor text at the bottom telling you some fun. Facts about the bird It's got a really interesting strategic gameplay now it is pretty advanced but it is I WANNA say it goes for sixty dollars these days as I started to get tough to find at times or because it's so popular so popular. They can't keep it on the shelves. Wow well you know I. I like how we've kind of stepped up here from kind of the beginning to something more complicated and involved wingspan. How much time is that going to give you? How how many. How long does the game go? I've played it for about hour and a half at a time usual. Oh Wow so. This is like the movie of Board Games. Yes exactly you said you know. Set aside and evening. It'll be worthwhile one of the Games. It's really taken my friend group by storm but I do know is a little bit more complicated to play. Although I enjoy it is parks. Can you tell me about where that came from one? Yeah that whole thing because I mean it's just pretty you'll yeah it's the new hotness right now up. The basically the entire national parks service came out with a board game. Many our listeners. Probably have seen these this beautiful series of posters that the National Park Service had commissioned by so many different artists for our nation's national parks and they as long as they had the art from the beautiful posters. They figure. Why don't we put those all onto cards and make a board game That is just staggeringly beautiful production values right now if you feel like wow. I missed the outdoors. I want to get that A little little bit of that feeling of fresh air. This is literally a game in which you collect. Sunshine Tokens. You Collect Rain Tokens. You Collect Tree Tokens. You collect mountains. You collect all these cute. Little Animal Silhouette figures that you can collect as your hikers moved through the national parks. It's such a beautiful game really fun only takes about. I want to say about an hour tops First Time you play. Then it'll start to get faster why I feel like though. I've only played it a couple of times but I feel like a couple of hurdles to this one. I just WanNa make sure that we the listeners. Can you kind of explain that? Because I'm no board game expert I just play and kind of fumble around. Why am I feeling that? What about about your you know? There's a range of different Difficulty levels in board games as to how many rules you need to absorb if you're going to be playing this multiple times and really getting the hang of it. Go ahead and invest the time reading the rule book thoroughly parks. Let's just be clear is a step up from something like ticket to ride Carcassonne in just the number of things that you have to remember to do with my game over world when I designed it. I deliberately made it so that if you went to break a rule you physically were prevented from doing it because the equipment wouldn't fit together so you don't have to remember it. There will be some things in parks that you have to go back and you're like wait a minute. We forgot to do this. So it's a bit more advanced gaming. Let's pause for a second to kind of talk about what is kind of your theory about what makes good board game in general because I mean there's so many kinds of games that are out there but what is it that makes what is it. That makes a good game that people enjoy. We'll everybody's got different tastes but I can tell you this It does need to have replay ability where it's not just the exact same thing happening over and over and over again it's got to give you interesting decisions but keep it simple enough so that it's very challenging it's It's very unlikely that you're going to forget the rules or you're going to play wrong. The challenge has to be in playing better not just remembering the rules and obeying them correctly so much like a good cocktail there has to be balanced. Yeah absolutely well. Let's keep going down the list here because obviously there are people with children out there. Oh my goodness yeah I only have for kids but there are many people with children out there you know earlier. In the week we had a livestream with both spin. And Cheyenne talking about all the things you can do with kids. Figured May as well check in with you for a board game recommendation for for the little one. Oh a great. A Great Board game for the whole family is King of Tokyo. Okay you've got these great big cardboard stand standing figures that are so colorful of Godzilla and King Kong and the monster that eight New York City in the monster. That ate Tokyo You get to roll great big handfuls of dyson really. You know just who doesn't like that and then there's kind of that. Take that element to it. Let's just be clear. This is one of those games where you GonNa Roll Your Dice. Than Your your side. Your master is gonNA whack another players Monster. And you get to pick who? Yeah that sounds like fun. The dice do mean that the kids can sometimes win against the adults. It kind of levels. That playing field keeps everybody engaged fun level of. I'm GONNA roll a huge handful of dice that I'm GonNa take my monster and I'm gonNA whack another giant monster with it now. This next recommendation and I saw this on the list ahead of time and I had to chuckle because you kind of have to have a dark sense of humor to play a game called pandemic right now. Yeah so. So here's the thing about pandemic. Which is the Classic Cooperative Board Games. One of the classics of Cooperative Board..
