And this big as i'm not saying that daytona is. Our place is nascar place. When you go there and you stand in that little circle there would there that they've taken from the rahman and you sit there and all of a sudden it's okay to walk on but then you get a guitar and you're going to sing and it's like oh my gosh patsy. Kline stood here. Hank wayne barley rob instead there. I mean i've been big for me because he was a race car driver. Yeah he came in so then you begin to think it's bigger now having fun. It was very humbling. I will say that it was very humbling. It was a pan crowd. Don't shots but it was five thousand people looking at you. That's i mean. Listen as much as you perform people ready to throw something at any locked and loaded all the stuff around the race. I want to get back to the race a little bit. They'll junior said it best in our post race. Pj one is out. resin is in. What did you think about that dj. I thought the resin did a fantastic job of the purpose was not to add grip to the track to lay rubber on the racetrack in it really answered the bell. In my opinion it changed the outlook of the whole weekend. When the cup cars hit the track on saturday for their practice session it changed.

"A lot of room for some of these other teams. So it'll be interesting these these next nine races leading into the playoffs because that is a very different looking top ten than i would have said. We would have the beginning of the race. Dj no doubt it evolved through the whole day tune. You see that but what talking about there. We go back to no qualifying this so then enforced right. I have a much better. Starting point in. Eric merola will have a much better story. That's one thanks talked about after qualifying because of the system we haven't had good starting daytona and from that point on. They've been starting back so they had an uphill battle the entire time and it just snowballs after that so another guy who had a nice top ten run was ricky stenhouse junior and he'll be joining us here motormouth when we come back. We'll talk ten house about having speed to. Maybe even keep up with. Kyle larson in the nice top. Ten finish ricky junior joins us next here.

NASCAR Makes Safety Rule Changes

"Made some rule changes just yesterday. The team's gotten new bulletin out on how they have to change the the car with a chassis and also with the new tapered spacer ornate. Kind of walk us through all the changes with the car right. So the tapered spacer change mardi is that they went from fifty seven sixty fourth of an inch to fifty three sixty seven inch so the smaller holes mean that there's less air getting through the engine and smaller roles means less errors means a decrease in speed so speeds will drop by about seven ten miles an hour. Nascar also removed the wicker from the spoiler and a roll bar that had previously been. Optional is now mandatory at daytona and talladega as we just heard and that piece we play with joey logano when he crashed at talladega when airborne running third on the last lap of the opening stage. Skit on its on the car's roof damage the roof and as we heard you say i got roll bar in my head. That is not okay.

Should Emergency Rooms Be Equipped to Deal with Addiction?

"Visits to hospital emergency departments plummeted. But a new study shows more people than ever are turning up at hospitals seeking help for drug addiction and overdoses. NPR addiction correspondent Brian Mann found many emergency doctors have struggled to respond. Emergency departments are great at treating things like chest pains and asthma attacks After the pandemic hit. A lot of those people stopped showing up at hospitals. They were scared of catching the coronavirus. But Kristin Holland, a researcher at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says patients experiencing addiction needed help. So desperately They kept coming. The thing that really stood out to me about all drug overdoses and opioid overdoses. Those were the only two for which we saw. An increase. Holden study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, analyzed roughly 190 million emergency room visits. The data shows even people who didn't catch the coronavirus were hit hard by the pandemic. People are indeed experiencing poor mental health, suicidal thoughts, substance use, potentially as a coping mechanism. But there's a problem. Experts say Many emergency departments aren't well staffed or trained to help patients with these kinds of problems. Dr. Mark Rosenberg is president of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Emergency physicians have always been able to treat the overdose, but we did not have tools to treat the addiction. Or the dependency. Rosenberg's organization has worked for years to convince emergency departments to improve addiction care. But he says, reform has come slowly. He points to the fact that most emergency doctors still don't use buprenorphine. It's a drug proven to help people with opioid addiction, avoid relapse. Only one third patients get medications for Opioid use disorder in the emergency department. Experts say regulatory hurdles and stigma around people with drug use disorders have kept many emergency departments from improving their addiction care. Dr Stephen Veal heads the emergency team at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. I think there was a lot of hesitancy because it's not what we've done. It's not what I've trained in, and it seems like somebody else should do it. But I think that what finally pushed emergency physicians out of their comfort zone to do something is just the number of people that we've seen die. After a spate of overdose deaths. Three years ago, Veal changed his department using buprenorphine and also adding a new member to his team. Larry Brooks is a trained addiction counselor who now works with patients in the ER as soon as they're revived the overdose patients that comment to an emergency room They're at their most vulnerable. They're at their lowest point that they've ever experienced. You know, the you know, been dead. Or at least near dead. And brought back to life during the pandemic. Brooks Hospital has seen a new spike in drug cases, Brooke says. It's made a big difference. Having an addiction program in place. This is the best time for us. As health organization and a community as a whole. To make an impact and say, Look, somebody is here. You're not going to get kicked right back out the door and go into withdrawal and have to find something else and then be back here in two hours, But experts say emergency Department addiction programs like this are still rare. CDC researcher Kristin Holland says she hopes data from her study will convince more hospitals to change our takeaway from this is meeting people where they are and if people are coming to the emergency department for these outcomes, that's where we need to meet them. Well, death from covert 19 have dropped from their peak. The CDC has fatal overdoses nationwide keep rising with more than 220 drug day. Brian Mann NPR news

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a new 16-bit beat-'em-up

"Needs to Turtles shredders revenge. Who thought this one coming nobody. I drink turtle's brawler stuff. Still right and that's like the one type. Eternal game that gets made besides japanese. Yeah i action games not good once. Yeah i mean yeah. We hope it's good. It has good pedigree behind it. Trivia games The guy did the one. I enjoyed last year. Very much panzer paladin. What like. I was not that interested in this because only because so many of these throwbacks end up being disappointing. Right like you're so jazz and exciting. It comes out and it's fine. You know and then and then and then it's over but this one every single portion of the announcement. I'm mike okay. Okay developer like good like they're hitting all the right notes. I could not be more jazzed. I think this is going to be the one that like actually delivers on the promise of like what. Sort of a modern throwback can be. Well yeah except that it's it's being Published by dot edu. Who last year brought a street bridge. Four which is also another great modern classic broader exactly johm. It looks so cool. it's reg. I'm not a journalist guy. So i'll i'll connect to this on the brawler level. It streets ridge four had anything that was like kind of like a meta gain. That kind of like did something. Brawlers didn't like an rpg system like mercy ransom or like castle crashers or anything like that. It had an interesting scoring mechanism. Where the longer you went. Without taking damage higher your score would go which is kinda cool and a stressful to me. I liked it. It also had a really really great animation. Of course herbals game is going for classic. Look like it is a sequel to the original turtles. Arcadian nearly nineties Our producer is writing me. That turtles in time is so much fun now. I played all the early turtles brawlers. they're fine. I played them like crazy. When i was a kid. But you guys know how i feel about brawlers need something extra or just too boring other. Otherwise it's good for you know ten dollars worth of quarters in the arcade galway's grant them that but i don't want that in my home and even with four people i'm gonna play through once maybe and it was to see all the cool pixel art and stuff so that'd be nice in this and i'm sure it'll be interesting but back in the day brawlers were cutting edge graphics. There's nothing that looked as good as them. And that was the reason for me to play them like run racers were first coming out not gonna play daytona usa ever again but i was pretty excited about daytona usa. When it was at a bank of machines in the arcade. I'll close up ten dollars in quarters into this machine. But i won't buy it for ten dollars. I wouldn't do that. It's the arcade experience in your with your friends and you're like how long can this quarter get mean this round. How much have improved since my last order experience. Exactly yeah maybe something will modify a cabinet and we can all play together to extreme or something in the future. that'd be cool way to experience. What if the game free but every time you wanted to play again at cost you asked about that. And nobody's really done. The twenty five cent per game system microsoft tried doing that with xbox live arcade border per play. It was something like that. We had to pay each play of these classic arcade games. Oh yeah one of the castle. Vania games like that. One of the xp la's spinoffs. Maybe joe was the castle vania. Excellent spin off that was like that zoom in and zoom out one which is was the cooperative one. That was really cool. I don't remember the pace anyway. You are right sam. I beat dragon and the arcade back in the day. But only because my grandpa just kept giving me quarters eventually my sister and i just four star way to our way to the end of the game where you bany or jimmy. I'm a lifelong me. There are only jimmy on the eighty. S yeah i think it's corrected or it was originally correct in their arcade The i have like a little kid. I had don't really fun. Time at the arcade playing with a friend through the simpsons. Game those my best brawler Experience we had happened to come in to a ten dollars in quarters or something. We got last boston. Did not beat the las boss. Still never finished the simpsons but it was so exhilarating and so illuminating to go through the first couple levels which costs you a buck fifty. Probably in the next couple levels which cost you probably four dollars and then the last boss which cost you four dollars by itself adds up in the set of funny way. It's it's you know it's those. Were designed to your quarters. At a point where people stopping go competitive with quarters and getting high scoring with pacman staff and of course the next era of arcades we all know with street fighter two competitive stuff that wet bridge of high tech brawlers like you know as corner starting with call it by the way. Yeah i actually have. I have a lot of affinity for brawlers. Who doesn't everybody loves him. But like you're you're completely right that. Although i do have an affinity for them like they're kind of garbage in like you know the bosses have invincibility frames and Just lockable moves. And just you know total screen wipes and like clearly like a super high level of skill. That stuff isn't a problem but for like everyday people like they just become impossible to the point. Where like you said. They're designed to you. Know to continue. Yeah so but that's why seeing them come. Home is so exciting. Because then they don't have that limitation that requirement on the commercial side on the on the capitalist side like they can just design a really really cool fudd brawling fighting combat system without the need for a bunch of bullshit bosses that That i can afford another quarter. That's casper crashers. I think they did a good job with it. Yup tina this announcement anything for you In the sense that i played like the early nineties. Konami think version the arcade version back in the day. So i had the same fondness that anybody else would just Having an opportunity to to play multiplayer game when that's a reality in the future at some point when you can sit down on a couch next to a friend and actually play the stuff. I'm also not a huge brawler fan. There's a level of consistency in sameness to them. After a while when you play them back to back. But i loved. River city ransom. Um so. there's definitely some affection in my heart for the genre overall.

Final Lap Weekly Fantasy Update

"Rowdy dragging here back again with this week's final weekly fantasy update the daytona road course. What an awesome race. The finish really mixed things up. I think these road courses are really gonna flip the fantasy upside down this year. So let's move onto the stage winners. We have first and second stage sweep done by. Who's good job. loosen the win. Who's looks like he felt a little short term. Gators three took that with two hundred and forty two points. Now the final weekly had two hundred and seventy two players to start the season it bumped up to three hundred and forty three players so a whole bunch of people had joined us. But now we're back down to two hundred sixteen players so i'm thinking there was a consolidation period where nascar just dumped. Everyone who had goose eggs for the first brace the second race or both races and Either that or toby was pushing some buttons and deleted everybody in any event if you have played with us before all you have to log back in and make your picks in. You're good to go however you're going to have to join the league now. Okay so moving right along. Let's take a look at homestead miami speedway. I got three drivers free to take a look at starting with the number. Five kyle larson. It is time for him to show what he can do in the five car. He did not race year last year and two years ago he blew motor up here so it is important for him to shine in the five car this weekend in show what it is. He has for that hendra team and another guy to look at. Is the number eight tyler. Rettig he had a good first race here last year he got a fourth place finish and he scored a segment points in both segments. Were dirt track. Racers excel especially the rim writers. Tyler riddick and kyle larson both loved to ride the rim and the last guy will take a look at the number eleven car denny hamlin. He's superb at this track. He's got three wins here. Last year. he racked up stage points in both segments as well some looking for denny to have a good day on

"In on their motorsports side as well as several other drivers in the sport. And you know I'd probably I definitely probably wouldn't be I know I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them in. So we just keep trying to build this thing together and you know it's I don't run all the cup races, but you know we were able to go to Indie would their their car runs seventeenth burke four hundred, as well as a few races with a partnership with chip Ganassi racing and that help run the. Daytona five, hundred and six, hundred, two of the biggest races of our year and and really hit. Then we hit Indie was the third you know it's Kinda the third big one you know I wish I could run maybe Darlington or something you know just to just to kind of get all the crown jewel then have random before but premium motorsports but it's it'd be cool to do it with this group and that seventy seven car so. never say never were were trying. You know it's a tough sport where we're trying to keep. Keep our head above water daytona is a I mean it's a chaotic race in itself. Now you've got this added layer of of drivers trying to get themselves into the playoffs. Are you aware of that in the moment drafting? I mean that's got to be just such a different experience. Yeah it is You know fortunately fortunate for us and they really series as we still have five races before our cutoff. We have one less around in our playoff. So we have less races so we run more right now. In the regular season so You know yeah. There's going to be some desperate guys but I know that starting up front due to the math big old math equation Nascar has now I think we start you know the first couple rows to abstract addition. We'll have a fast car. and we will you know on the extended decide will really be able to you know I, think. Just drive hard and and try to control the race. I mean there's going to be a lot of us trying to do that and and trying to lead laps and and get stage points and win stages. But you know when when it comes to the Cup side for sure that's a it is going to be. It's a crazy race to plug into theories that I've only ran a couple times. Let alone the Cup series of that and they're. You know card that is Daytona for their regular season cutoff. So we be at totally opposite strategy there we will be safe secure towards the back you know.

"One hundred but that track was somewhere between a pile of garbage and like raw sewage somewhere in there. I I hear a phone call coming your way bringing this week. Bring it. I'll go. I'll I'll wind up ten guys. I texted with during the day. I'll bring up the text messages. Were writers are losing their minds about how bad it is and we need to get these wolves. But we didn't talk about these we'll do it wasn't it wasn't awesome but at the same time like I don't know man I've written some really bad daytona tracks. That one may not be the most fun track. The Best I'll give you passing was really difficult. I made on that like really narrow really difficult pass. I'm in but they're kind of like it could be a lot worse. I work could be worse. Good God telephone Poles Lime Rock and grass. Okay okay all right well again. I'm not blaming Ricky. I set all those reasons right. The pit lane was widened sprinklers. Logo I believe there was a lawsuit for going into the Sense Station Stations Stank August for going into the metal grates right. So there's things that they have to do that. Ricky is probably handcuffed by a man on the whoops though if you wanna go to whoops okay. Let's talk about those I again. I wasn't there but dude those first two heat races of the two fifty class. I mean it looks like Mad Max. The thunderdome there was guys to have happened. Jt what was the deal. It's one of those things where you build the whoops right. They're pretty tough and practice but not overly difficult then they wear down throughout the course of practices and then they go into heat race and rebuilt them but they made them way bigger and steeper than all the rights. You have guys that. They're not allowed to walk the track before the Heat. Risks that standard. And you don't get a parade lap to really have no idea you're trusting the tracker that they're going to build it in the fashion that it's been all day. Yeah that's normal. Supercross dynamic one zero one. Trust the crew. They're going to build it the same. So you have the confidence to hit it with the same speed angle everything. Well that wasn't the case and honestly I. I'm wondering if Ricky said anything when he shot off shot off the whoops and almost crashed. Yeah you know laugh you would think something's gotta be done. That's not how they were. And then you see that you did just go barreling in. They're expecting one thing they get another and then it's just pile up after pile up. I don't think that was fair right. hurt I was GonNa say like I'm we're lucky. Nobody got hurt. Guys dig her that. That's a bummer. We were able to see them from wherever you were actually was not where it was. That was Kevin Kelly side track and Kevin Kelly coming in pinch hitting in the fly racing radio show filling in your spot show went well but yes Yeah I sent it to his side of the track and then next thing I know he's calling a rider pile up more than it seemed like there was ten so they were way steeper than they had been all day so I came in there wide open like and also like flipping. Every right yeah. I'm not a fan of that. That's not seen it happen before grant links and had a huge crash landed in two thousand and five and that's dating myself because of that same thing they changed the track you know steepness angles height of jumps without telling anybody and yeah you have big crashes because guys expect one thing they get another and then you just have bikes laying everywhere. Why could salvage yard while Marley? They went up and rolled them for the four fifty. Yeah they had two guys were crashing their brains out it sucks. If I'm a writer I would be really bummed like like even if you're healthy you're just like come on guys like everything we do from getting to the race travel practice. Everything is riding on what happens when the lights go on. And then you have something like that that can derail your like big like really talented guys. Were almost crashing big. Well NO DIFFERENT TRACK. Different track crew. Another reason that's that's part of it. That's where I was going with integration. As I think you could also talk about the split lanes I think Because I was sitting there in the same spot kind of all day and there was a split lane trying to think how to explain it for those who are watching on TV but basically till it was where Tomac and the main aim at kept going outside and was tripling in and Roxanne was going inside doubling in that section of the line that rocks and was taking faster all day. Because the two fifty guys couldn't really triple in very often. It was very difficult so it turned into one line the one that rocks and was taking over and over and over. I really felt like if it was the standard dirt works crew that had been through these sections at GonNa Tampa dealt with the sand that dealt with the section Anaheim to where they continually worked on the sections to make them equal. They would have had that experience throughout the season to make changes. They didn't change anything right. You could see that one was clearly better than the other. They never change anything. They never tried to adjust it and never tried to to make them. And Yeah you got into the race. And then all the fifties we're going to the inside you know and I I think that's just one of those things where having two different trackers and having one crew coming for one race they don't have that experience from those other races just got to the whoops watching right now. Oh Oh it's much They K- it's like a washboard would say just bites US bouncing off a lot of guys down paid off. Rj RJ went down to the first turn and he has twelve guys in one move section when you crash in the heat race. Twelve guys go down. We're going to all right. Let's get into it so rocks and was determined to stop him from winning too far. Rj We each man. He was their grades were there. Oh you mean that. Rj Yeah absolutely. Johnson I thought you meant Hampshire. I'm sorry Yeah Oh absolutely talked. Rj plenty six time everybody pussies probably right. Just you would be I would be. Yep Yeah they had six time They had Six Time Stanton RJ Onstage and Garner Lindstrom The winner of the first Daytona Our buddy largest debt So they had them on stage a rod and the they're talking about bike week and uncle bike is and rj wrote Gold Wing with his dad's ashes to bring him to Daytona. His Dad passed a year ago. Awesome story from R. J. It throw in. He was the pace car driver last week. At Fontana for Nascar for Jimmy Johnson's last race there so it really tight schedule to get to Daytona. So then by what about you jeff stand you ever been into the street bike side of thanks. No actually you're after retired car ran a red light almost died not in the streetlights great message for Bike Week. He's like I understand the important part of the Industry. And it's great for motorcycling going around in the street but not my deal unfiltered classics. Classic S was rookie. Ryan around did not see Ricky Ryan. Holly talked a lot about that race because he got fourth one funny story from Gutter Lindstrom is. He said he won the first one. They actually invited him to their banquet. Nineteen seventy one with the NASCAR guys and everything else and I mean it was a Florida winner am race. It was like breaching a local series. Essentially say invited him there. Everybody's American he's the only European essentially at this bank with all these all these rugged runners. Yeah yeah this is. I mean this is only probably what NASCAR's going around fifteen years at this point it is law and he says I enjoy this and in twenty years I bet you the dirt bikes will be. The motocross will be bigger than the road racing and they were like pissed and laughing at him. Like how dumb is this guy? Motocross will ever be bigger than Daytona. Two hundred right now. We're in the fiftieth and looks like I was right tutor. Just been counting the days. I will have my revenge. I will have my revenge right. Got A calendar with taxes on every day another day closer to going back to Daytona and rubbing it and I was followed. Rj's travels leak out there. That's pretty cool for sure. So why did he drive? Just because he the ashes he said his dad. I think you said his dad had written from El Cajon or somewhere in southern California to Daytona two times so he felt like it was the right thing to do. My Dad's driving a couple of times but I'm still on all right. Yeah so Roxanne was the terminus. Stop Tomac definitely knew that everyone had been given given. Eli this win and and again from the couch. I tweeted that was done for the German was gone because of that. Start and the way the track was and everything else and dude I mean at one point was twelve seconds. I'm pretty sure it's twelve. Might have been more but Eli was amazing. Jt just next level just crushing it. And he goes to work but I think you have to get rocks and credit because he was backing up exactly what he said his pace in practice it was the Kenny Daytona. We've ever seen. He came out to prove a point and he was doing it. And if not for a superhuman second half of the main event from Tomac we they're going rocks and did it. He took away a win at Max Trapp arguably his best track. But that's where I get torn is that I think Kenny should hold his head high. Because that's absolutely the best Daytona I've ever seen from Ken Robinson. But then you also have to look at Tomac in be like Kenny Kenny. GonNa back near the end. I Dunno Tomac jacked up a little bit but still I think both of them have reason that we they're going damn US pretty good too. You know so I think it was. It was a missed opportunity a little bit by Kenny. Because if he wins that he really swings back his way. That's two in a row. He took a win that everybody had given to Tomac. He missed that opportunity. Still Road incredibly well and I think he's still sent a pretty strong message. Like hey dude. I'm I'm better than I've probably ever been. Yeah and then. Eli is probably even. They're going yeah but I'm still amazing and I go. I can go one ten when nobody else can as far as time so I left. They're really not knowing who to give the real momentum to I think both of them have reasons to we. They're excited about the rest of the season. What did you think we yeah? I'm kind of in the same vein. I didn't I didn't maybe right. Jt hadn't considered that. Maybe those last two laps. Tomac ease it off because it was impressive. That can got back to him. I mean it was getting a little tense there in that off camera which was hard to get perfect rocks and got close. And you're just like well. I mean one little mistake through here and he still this off and pick. The final margin was point seven seconds. I know it was a garbage race was terrible but after twenty two minutes two point seven seconds in first and second. I know this garbage An fancy on the fence line getting to watch these titans coming down the start straight together toward the finish line garbage But I agree Kenny try gave everything he had..

"Because it was weird to have outdoor national in March and have the rest of the series? Two months later timing. It didn't work for everybody timing. This is because it was weird to have outdoor national in March and then the rest of the series two months later didn't work literally the schedule. That was the only problem I mean they have a race. Oh thirty miles away. Now a WW. This is the same idea. Doesn't work dude. I just I hope people listening or cringing nobody cares about events will call and parking and Adjunct Winston. I don't when you're on your you and your great pass get you anywhere and you do live announcing there and everything else like. Do you think when People Watch the Super Bowl? They gave a crap how the media passes or players getting free tickets. Helen. Breaking out. It doesn't matter. Finish product fans is all that matters. Okay we know that this is more than just a finished product for fans at all it matters otherwise we keep we keep going to. Minneapolis supercross because they loved it. There's a lot of things that go into this sport behind the scenes and US three. Try to talk about it and look at it from different business points different viewpoints and teams and fans our Party problem. These are petty problems. Going to Minneapolis in in January or February a major problem going to central Florida. Where half or sorry. Three quarters of the writers live in the middle of a whole bunch of motorcycle activity on Daytona Bike. Week is not a problem for the industry. Going TO MINNEAPOLIS in February. I'll put you in the know category. Okay I just anyone can be like. What are these guys? Talk about passing their parking that affects two percent of the people that are there. The people that are being paid to be there who cares a lot of people that couldn't go areas where they thought they could go because there were different sections. You see it was. It was not as not as easy as you're making it but I'm not anywhere near where maths is either. Listen I'm just asking the conversation. You're both saying I got a cost several times. I was late for ten. Am meeting on Saturday. Because they wouldn't let me get to the stage and they're like you can't go through here. Mike the stages literally where I work. I am the announcer. I work on that stage. You have to let me go to that stage. And they were actually almost like saddened by my attitude. But here's the thing. The announcer not having the right pass to get to the stage doesn't matter okay fair enough. I'm just saying I'm just saying all of that. Could BE SMOOTHER. That was my only point when you're percent integration. But it's not a reason I'm not anywhere near there. I'm just saying the creation of two two companies working together event could be smoother and I saw tons of fans Saturday afternoon tons fans after the race Saturday night and then tons of fans even at GNC today that were like so stoked in the race man. That was awesome last night. Man that was read. How `Bout Tomac have oxen men? That was so cool. Dude I felt like it was positive vibes bummed Al Fans. I don't know how you couldn't enjoyed forfeiting main event. I guess maybe on TV it was different experience but impersonating it was. You're on the edge of your seat wondering how it was gonna be able to respond was rocks and just gone was web going to be able to up like I was watching lap times like it was it was riveting. I've seen some really boring races in my life. That was not one right. I'll put you guys in the know. Category I just I bringing it up. That's bringing it up for discussion. Thank you we. We Owe Cooper web last year. Had he not mounted that comeback at Dallas? That would have been a garbage race. It's just us out this thing. Does it fit into the supercross series for Feld? It doesn't fit in for the teams it. The track isn't what it used to be fit in talking about when jt was talking about fitting worse than it did. I agree okay but but now like we don't like it was so different. It was a thirty minute. Main event outdoors ish like it was so bizarre? It was almost cool. Because you really didn't know what was going on right. Then it's turned into supercross but not as good as any of the other sixteen rounds because of dirt and everything else and then it's turned into whatever we got now with inside inside and no real jumps and like what's a trying to be what's not old school like it used to be and it's not a full supercross it's worse. So what is this thing and then you add an all the other problems and all the other issues and is it time to have the conversation that Daytona needs to go to a home and again you guys say no so we can move on. Look then has always been a compromise. I mean supercross was literally invented to work inside a football stadium and that is super cost in its best state. That's what supervisor designed to be. It's not designed to work on the INFIELD OF NASCAR tracks. That's not the point of supercross so I feel like Daytona has been a bit of a compromise for probably fifty years. However it's still turns out to be an okay event and then you get all the many other benefits. I mean. Look for sport to say that they compete at Daytona. International speedway is a big deal because pretty much every other form of motor. Sports has a big race at Daytona. And I think that that helps put your sport of the map and for the industry to be able to be there for Bike Week. In half supercross beat now the key event of likely. I think is big for this or so yes. Is it as perfect as having another? Dome Stadium Supercross Football Track. No it's never been but it's not so horrible throw away all the other advantages. I mean the level of you say tomato I say tomato debris rating that you were firing towards Daytona on Saturday. Morning was unbelievable. I was I was watching practice going. Oh my God. This is terrible. This is terrible. Cancel the whole thing. Cancel everything and then you got you know. Nobody knows what a park and no one has the record. Dental and security will let you go anywhere you got nowhere to wash the race from thank God we have stepped in like an angel. The last couple years I've been there and dialed me up but you probably had to sign away your kidney for that so I thank you but it just you know we tell the Andrew Booth Story. Yes yes so. "Bradshaw Western Pike and the gear. You'll see that soon too so yeah really cool video from Glamis Yup Yup also pretty awesome. It's probably one of the. I would say the coolest video we've ever made as far as a marketing video sound pretty pumped on that. Nothing could be the top gun one. Come on great okay so Daytona to fifty s well. Well we'll start it all starts. I Like Hampshire. Can't pick them. I liked Hampshire Daytona too. I think that's really good and but I might go j mart at a four right. Yeah I would probably go J mart. I think he'll I think he'll be on the podium this weekend. I really do Of course he had a bad Atlanta right so When you look at that well. It wasn't even really his fault. You could blame him but I. I don't think that's fair you know. I'm not saying it's our fault either but that wasn't Jae Martin. Making the prototypical Jay Martin mistaken crashing right. It was just really bad circumstances. Anybody else you like. I mean sex mcelrath right sex and CO author or Jamar make those. You're all stars. Yeah I think all those guys I mean. You're you're safe with all of those. I don't think you're GonNa get West and twenty three points with any of those guys. Yep So Just pick your favorite guy basically Who else you like For me I lost a pretty big opportunity with guys like gains So I may still look at him. He rode really well last weekend so even if he gets like a top ten. I would be pretty happy with that. I think you just yeah just think a guys that are really in shape For this race I think the one guy that jumps off the page to me is Liquor CEO. He Rides San Super Well. He's had crazy good. Finish seven to four fifty class at Southwick. Yup so that should be good for him. He was in Florida year round and he's a nine. He's had a horrific o of the series. So he's all the way up to a nine now He's basically guaranteed to be on my team and hopefully he just finds a way into the main event but as I said. The Daytona racing is so much different. Even if you make a mistake. There's so much more time and area to pass at Daytona than a normal supercross tracks so That's the easy one for me that I would say you just have to pick is With curzio short. Yeah John Short. I can't pick in but if you compare curcio short course I would yeah. It wouldn't even be a thought And then I would work hard at the arena across guys coming back Sinai would be an immediate one for me His his outdoor skills you know he's been writing Mex- GP for a couple of years now so a track like Daytona should suit him a little better There's more experience on on a track like that and his handicap super high He is up to can find it. Fifteen So just getting in the main events guaranteed huge points for him. So I think there'll be some opportunities like that I think the guys that have lost some of their value or guys like swallow even afford a race at two now. You know what you're hoping for. What a seventy eight. They're better to really get a bunch of points out of him. That's that's asking a lot So I would start to steer away from guys like him and soups and a few of these guys. That are really paying all hopes. Would you say from Lopes too? Yeah I don't hate it. I just think there are better. Picks right you had ten picks or something yes he would be an easy pick but I think the guys called Renzo and Sinai and these guys are are much higher upsides at this point. Yeah well said I. I like starling Daytona. But he's got a bad shoulder and he's a seven so I I might stay with that and cal. Peters is no longer an all star but his hand injuries got obviously you race arena. But I don't know about this hand right. It's not as main series and all of that so I would stay away from Peters out. Stay away from Jimmy D. He was just a walking wounded right now man. Jt Yeah Gimme short and Gimme Lucretia all day. All I think I think if you went you're all star and you went to Ni- short and of course you know you have a crazy strong team right there. Yeah Miranda's good too. But he's only one higher than Lorenzo and I like even though it's been it's been a bad year for Lorenzo. Yeah but I'll take it out in a sixteen minute racer Daytona. We'll take a hundred times out of one hundred hundred Moran and that's not a fight against my ranch look at the results. Lorenzo's put up over the years. What about Luke Niece? He was good. I I had to go. Look Nice was so good making it out of the heat. I went back from the press box and said as this guy been racing like. Where's he been and he's been in the first two outs. He's been there and he he. He definitely was fortunate That he went away did. There was some carnage. It wasn't super stacked And he kinda just road by himself so Kudos to him but also very good situation for him to be in and the DNC Cuba superstock because it so Guys like short and those guys going down. Lorenzo isn't that crash short was in that crash it was It was just a great scenario for him. But Hey that's that's what it's all about. He put himself in a good spot. You know we do have showing up this weekend. Is Chris Cannon who's a any SC RIPA? Always does well as Southwick. Of course a Chris. Canning is racing Daytona fourteen handicap. I'm out I just don't know enough about super cost. I'm GonNa Watch practice with me not being able to pick John Short. There's a chance can get on my team right but I'm GONNA need to watch him ride supercross. I've I've never seen it and Daytona distract layouts by far the easiest Daytona I've ever seen as far as supercross technicality But I still am blindly. I can't pick canning blind way without ever watching them. Progress check before All right yeah I I think I. It's never easy but Jamar mcelrath and sex in one of those needs to be your all star and John Short. Lorenzo are to me are just locks and after that yes and I. I'm not I'm not sold on I but I I could see it for sure. Do you another guy go ahead and other guy to Agai hearty meals on a outdoor type track. I get it but he is an incredibly good starter Really really proficient starter. What'S HIS I'm not saying it's a good pick. I'm just saying it's something to keep an eye on. I think there will be some people that pick him. Because on this outdoor track. He's a little more open and sixteen. Yeah Yeah it. Rewards guys that are willing to send it for one lap. Yeah So he could qualify well and Beyond a lot of teams Lane Shaw and Zane Merit maybe outdoor guys. I don't know who knows if it is easiest Daytona like you said. Jt scares help me. So yes and he should. You've watched him right..

I hope I'm saying his name right Who is a part of the Nascar Youth Development Program and He's actually training to become a race car driver so yeah. I think that that's awesome. That they have these diversity programs that are already in place to help Young kids have colored Try To you know. Get BECOME NASCAR. Drivers so young. Little bubbles are training. We need all the little bubbles up and notice we need. We Need Young. Bubbas OUT THERE. So yeah that was. That was awesome right. We'll let me give I give some facts. "Did team owner Joe apologizes for his team. Celebration while Ryan. Newman was being tended to his injuries. I knew that it was raised by never even focused over there. I was focusing on our car and everybody started celebrating around us. I say to everybody out there. Some people may have sauce several. These guys are celebrating when there's a serious issue going on so hopefully apologized thereby but we really didn't know we got the winner's circle then that's when people told us later on the winter circle so I wanted to explain that everyone and just makes it so hard Such a close knit community. You know everybody and this is one thing kind of like what Danny was saying. If you think about all the wrecks that we've had over the last now how many number of years and some of them look look real serious. We've been so fortunate so anyway. Just want to say in the state that for everybody. That's that's what took place for us and so now it's you know it's hard. We're all waiting jobs back for more Winning the Daytona five hundred hard despite Joe Gibbs racing consistently making it look very easy. I think as far as Winning this race I can tell you how hard it is we. I think we were a stretch of twenty. Two years didn't win it Just on our race team you got Martin Kyle been here fifteen times. Haven't won it and then to have Denney You know in sports. Thanks sometimes. You're not you're not quite sure. Why or how when you watch somebody Just have a gift and even last week stat was miraculous for him to get back out there and be able to you know down lap and everything so I think he does this. One of those things you have to say. This one of the things is fans. We love to see somebody. Special has a gift and finally we wrap things up with Chris. Gebhardt winning his second Daytona five hundred atop the box break it. Yep Well I told somebody come pit road. I'm not going to buy any lottery tickets for the rest of my life. I it's amazing that One second and as many Daytona five hundred crew chief but For me personally This one is is honestly way more special for me The first one was my first race's kerchief chief for the eleven Fedex camera with Denny and you know you just have so many great resources behind you is really just riding the wave. I'm trying to figure out you know what's going on and I felt like Denny in the team we're doing all the work To be honest with you I'm very very lucky to receive it but three hundred sixty five days later after put together the season that we put together in twenty nineteen as a team and me being fortunate enough to be asked to lead that team This one is so much more viable to me. Because I feel like I've earned this one I feel like I belong Feel like this team is capable of of excellence. And this one. This will means a lot more to me personally so Denny wins his third of the last five Daytona five hundred's. He is a restrictor plate. Ace among you know weaklings. Yeah and if you'd like some expanded Daytona five hundred stats for Denny. Hamlin my colleague Joseph's Wrigley at Tokyo's Dot Com statman. Yup has a impressive one. He was posted to twitter. You ready for this all right so denny. Hamlin's third win Daytona five hundred history like you were talking about moments ago. Seventh top five. Finish for him in Fifteen Daytona five hundred starts. Hamlin has never DNA after and the Daytona five hundred in his career and has completed two thousand nine hundred and ninety eight laps out of a possible. Three thousand one laps in the Daytona. Five hundred that's four or that seven thousand four hundred ninety five miles out of a possible seven thousand five hundred and two point five miles. That is incredible. Amazing Al Pile on for you. If you'd like second closest finish in history and of course any was a part of the other one edged out Martin tricks and the other. So that's That's wild of course this all takes a back seat to what we're going to talk about here in a little while but You know guy at least give me a little bit of do. This is a pretty historic moment. three Daytona Five. Hundreds of something you don't see very often To back to back is something. You've only seen three other drivers. But then he do in the past Richard Petty. Did it once kill your road at once? And of course sterling. Marlin did it wants as well so Denny Hamlin joins that prestigious group of guys to win the Daytona five hundred and back to back seasons next Daytona truck series winner grant and finger on the program. We call this T. Nfl W grant like us at FACEBOOK DOT COM SLASH. The final lap. This is the final land weekly on the final with us. Today is grant and finger truck series winner from Daytona. Welcome to the program. Hey thanks all right. So has that whole thing sunk in yet I mean winner at Daytona grant figure. Now go together. He know what has again is what it means for this year. Emperor has made an accord in the playoffs in Amethi did. It has a four hour season but not. I don't think that we actually want on it. And I said Maine's Burger everybody involved That's up in. It might take a little while for for that to sink in yet now. The good.

"Down. Don't do anything and welcome everyone to end the draft with Wilson and was I'm Wilson here in Sunny Southern California me all right across the Internet from beautiful studio album version. Two Point Zero. It is one ministers. Got Hawalas what's going on man? Well it's not as hot as the racing is Oh yes Daytona in fact last night or Wednesday night or real feel temperature. According to accuweather was a Chris minus fifty one degrees Fahrenheit comprehendible as I just making sure they're making things up now that doesn't exist and who goes outside and decides yes feels like minus fifty. Right right Oh come on now. Holy Crap like without the wind. It's negative twelve right now. That's fine it's literally negative. Twelve or your. Yeah it's fine. Are you talking about like seriously man and I know how I live here? They were Yeah they were bitching this morning when I got him. Because it was like forty three degrees since bitches. Heat wave to us. Yeah yeah totally just so you know. It's going to be like seventy eight here tomorrow. It's going to be nineteen here tomorrow and the forecast is windy and not as cold. It is it is literally like the perfect time. It is time where everybody comes from out of town and trust me. A lot of your former neighbors in Canada have realized that they're all here Yeah they're all driving around like how they're like. Yeah it's going to be a positive. Digits is high so it's going to be not as cold. I mean when you think about this yet what do you think about it? Would you say it was GONNA be twelve eighteen? Something like that nineteen eighteen. That is thirty one degrees warmer than it is right. Now they're right. It's not as cold as it is right now. We have is and calculators. We can figure that out. Thirty one degrees warmer. It's going to be nineteen. Oh man you should be down in Daytona for all the stuff going on down there. I worry I get into a wreck though I know right. Yeah we're GONNA talk about that and The.

"Optimism was in the air all day as drivers came through visiting the Marin crew there has been one race though already under the NASCAR banner during Daytona speed weeks one by Eric. Jones joins US right now here at the table they five hundred meteoric welcome welcome aboard. Yeah thanks for me. I guess that was really something last weekend. Have you have you quite still getting your head wrapped around everything that happened and how it ended up when it was all over and done I? I don't know that we've ever seen somebody crashed three times and and have a blown pit. Stop in seventy-five absence still recover from it. No I I don't think we have. I definitely never been a part of that but it was cool. I mean looking back on it. You know what a Neat Story. I mean to tell a wild race. Not One that I thought you know halfway through we were going to have shot down lap and getting back and lead lap and I think our first restart back on the lead. Lap was green white. Checker me run about twelve th and then we're able to come back and win it wild race but definitely cool. I mean anytime you can win races to Daytonas neat and especially the week before the five hundred smooth good momentum forward spinning out what what comes next. What's the approach for Thursday and the and the dual hopefully Thursdays step in the other direction? Lot Calmer I'd love to win it but maybe in a different fashion so you know it's definitely a different race a lot more reserved race. I'm sure with some of the guys who are in the clash and just in general people want to keep their five hundred cars in the race. Sunday. You WANNA run hard. You want to get the best starting spot you can you all start fronting the Daytona five hundred and you don't want to give up those states points either that there are available in the race so a fine balance right you wanna push and you WANNA learn run hard but you gotTa keep your car in one piece too. So it's going to be an interesting balance but I think we can you know hopefully run up front and stop the tweeted a meme on Sunday night from days of thunder? Remember me feel like the forgotten one? I mean what was the kind of the story behind that means we. My Buddy was laughing. He's sent that to me when that was. When Cole trickle wrecked about times I thinking that race and came back and was was waving to the Rowdy Burns whose leading so we're just laughing about it. Nothing more than that. We just thought it was funny from the movie so a year ago went to victory lane as part of a nineteen win season for Joe Gibbs racing it. I don't think anybody would have bet that one organization could have won nineteen times in a single year. Probably nobody would bet on on the ability to do it again this year but I don't know that anybody would bet against it either because this race team has not sat back on. Its laurels during the off season. You've been working hard to get better still. I think that's the big thing with Jj sometimes when you get out front you worry about being complacent and and I don't think Jr's really fell into that trap. Before they're they're never once it really sit on their hands and say. Oh you know we've got good cars. Why do we need to keep working on them? The develops constant different. This year. With the PARTRY's we've got going on but you can still work on some stuff on the on the other side from. Aero and everything else so there's still development going on maybe not the same as we've always had but you know I think we've got great cars. I mean a parts freeze but for a good year for US coming off a last year so same cars and you know hopefully just as much success. Well we won't know until obviously season gets going here but I think we all feel good about having an opportunity to have really similar season. Wish you the best of luck on Thursday. Congratulations again on on your success. In the busch clash and have a great ride on Sunday. Appreciate it Eric. Jones dwelt Toyota out of the Joe Gibbs racing stable. We're joined now by a NASCAR Cup series champion. That's done his share of winning. Over the years that would be Kevin Harvick. Welcome TO MARIN DOT com. How are you? I'm doing great? How are you guys doing fantastic? Has Your all season Ben? What offseason for me. It's you know it's one of those situations where I'd rather have some sort of flow to continue kind of in the groove from a racing standpoint just because there's a lot of development a lot of things that happened during the off season and on those years where I feel like I've been more disconnected from my guys and it seems like it takes longer to get back into the swing of things so we did take a couple of weeks over Christmas and new years but we were actually in the simulator the day after homestead two more times before before Christmas a couple times three times I think before the season and just kind of going through those exercises in lunches and just really small little things with Rodney and and and the guys just to make sure that everybody was still thinking about racing. Because it's a it's a it's a big year in a number of different ways with all the transition coming at the end of the year. And it's still trying to compete for the whole year competitively. And how do we balance that? And how do we do that in? Which which test do we go to? How much time do we spend in the simulator? There's a number of things and conversations that have to be had that that are important. What kind of things can you do to even look ahead to twenty twenty one? I mean nobody has really the cars. Yeah I mean what? What can you do to prepare for next year already? You know really really at this particular point about scheduling. How do we schedule these these tests? And how do we schedule our team to be effective throughout the year? Because I don't WanNa go to a test unless my guys were there you know from a safety standpoint and have put together the race car and from a performance standpoint is. There's really no use to go to the test until we know one hundred percent. What the final version of the car is going to be the rules and are close and I want to do it with my guys just because of the fact that you know you wanna run through the same routine and make sure that the things are prepared correctly and how efficiently can we do that from a scheduling standpoint. That it doesn't interrupt the things that we're doing this year so really the planning and scheduling is the only thing that that I feel like we need to be involved in it at this particular point other than the awareness of where things are at spending time with Kevin Harvick here on our end. Dot Com recently signed a contract extension. You're going to be with Stewart Haas racing for a few more years. What accomplishment saluting you. What are you trying to do here in that remaining time of that contract? Is there something that stands out to you that you'd like to get done well? The one thing that became very intriguing to me was this new car and you know not only the new car but the new in the new plans of engine packages and hybrid packages and all the different things. That are coming the challenges that are coming with this new car in order to be competitive. That was one of them. I think for me. It's always about being competitive and winning races and I like doing those types of things with the group of guys that I'm with you know I've worked my whole career and you always hear guys say well. I need the right people. I need the right. Chemistry I need the right organization. I need the right manufacturer. I've got all those and you know in a situation that I feel like I've worked my whole career that you don't get to experience all the time a lot of guys never get to experience that and in the end. I'm like why. Why am I even talking about doing something different or thinking about doing something different and it took a few conversations? I sat down with with Mark Martin over the summer. Talk to my friend Joe Girardi about the end of his career. Just trying to get different. Perspectives talked to Dale Jarrett Rusty Wallace and and Bill Jordan. Who's a good friend of mine and and so I talked to a number of guys who had been through that particular situation and it's to me the way that we do things now is actually easier than what it was fifteen years ago ten years ago from a scheduling standpoint. And and the way that you don't go test twenty times a year like you used to sell your home more. So there's just a there's a number of things than they. All indicated in pointed this staying in the race car. Now my wife may think differently I think in the end we talked through everything. And and just that's where we landed lots of racing left to happen between now and then including your attempt to win your second Daytona five hundred. We wish you the best in doing that. On some thank you guys Kevin Harvick more from Daytona five hundred media day coming up checkout dot com for a podcast series called the tough trucks of Nascar Twenty five years and still trucking. We'll take you back to some great races. Can I come crashing back bikes. "Special edition of NASCAR. Live for the Daytona. Five hundred on the motor racing network the Voice of Nascar this is a special Daytona. Five hundred edition of NASCAR. Live now back to woody. Came Welcome back to a special edition of NASCAR live. Let's continue our highlights from Daytona five hundred media day in Daytona. We are joined now by a pair of for drivers one at the top of his game. Enjoy Llegado the other making a rookie. Debut coming up here in Daytona. That would be Cole. Custer you got the best of the best sitting in front of you. Alex Hayden. Yeah we do and we'll start with Joey Logano Daytona five hundred media day yet again as we get set for another run to the Harley J earl trophy. What's it like for you when you come through the tunnel here at Daytona? Oh Man I always get excited just a you know last week when we got here and you land and you're in Florida and the weather's nice that's always a nice part and then you know you see Daytona every time you land right behind the racetrack. This race track means to our sport. How exciting it is just to be here. I always remember my first eight hundred five hundred. Starting Cold's GonNa obviously no this feeling here soon as well you know. I remember walking. How onto pit road and I was with my dad. See My car lined up for the great American race and how neat that was. There's a special feeling now Iraq twenty laps into the race but it was an amazing feeling just to start it so you can imagine what it was like when we want in two thousand fifteen for me putting so much into this race in what this race means to myself cellphone to our sport that when you know that feeling and what. It's going to be like you can't help get excited when you get here. That is Joey. Logano seated next to him as Cole custer before we get to you call. I'M GONNA. I'm GonNa do this with you. Joey what would you tell Cole? As far as the one thing that you want to keep in mind once the green flag drops in Daytona five hundred. What would be the words of advice or wisdom do? He's never out of it. And I guess Eric Probably proved that to everyone last the last week of the class. You're never out of a superspeedway race. There's just so much stuff that can happen. You're going to get caught up in something at some point chances. Are you strap into this thing? Knowing that you have more than a half chance that you're GONNA crash at some point and you just hope that it's not that bad and it's somewhat repairable and if you're still rolling you got a chance at it. Anything can happen in this thing so being smart when you need to and being aggressive when you need to key. But I guess if there's one thing is just always know that the racist they'll go on. Cole custer here as well coal you've had a lot of success in the Finnity Series. Here you are now. It's time to to get into a cup car and you've had a few laps already over the weekend just doing that. What's the learning curve? Been like already in your short time that you've been in the car you know it's been just trying to get used to. Everything is the biggest thing I think the guys that moved up this year. We kind of know what makes you be successful and what we need to do. You know it's just a matter of getting used to the cars and the teams and the racing level you know so as as time goes. Take one step at a time. I think it's just GonNa you're GonNa get better as a driver. I know you have been totally focused on a race car. Making it better getting to know your team getting to know the surroundings but have you paused for a moment. Just to kind of think about what Joey was talking about in. That is Sunday morning Sunday afternoon. When you come walking from either the garage or the coach and make your way down pit road to the driver introduction stage to be introduced as a driver in the Daytona five hundred failings going to be like you know you try and block it out as much as you can. I guess just you try and treat it like a normal race. Prepare and do what you can but you try to get one step at a time. I think he's a big thing for me is just making sure that. I don't think you get too much pressure if you just focus on what you got in front and they need to do but at the same time. I'm sure when you walk to that car. After it shows a pre surreal feeling. You've watched this race into your little kid Cole. Gets for another moment or so. Joey I know you got to keep moving along. Listen all the best here. Go Get yourself another Harley J earl trophy all the best all right we'll give it a shot. Thank you very much for Joey Logano Jordan. Well our next guest is one here at the center of racing. Austin Dillon sits down driver the bass pro shops Chevrolet Austin. Welcome to Media Day. You've done this a time or two. It's always fun right. It's media day favorite day of the year. Obviously no I enjoy doing this because only happens once a year and it is my favorite race favourite Sundays a year because of the height because the build up I wake up and I cherish every moment up until the green flag and get a car and I'm to be as folks as I can because this matters to me I mean it just it is Was able to win it in eighteen but WANNA do it again. I want to put myself in that position again. I know what the eyeballs are and what it means to your career and on my family loves this race to my grandfather. You know where he's going to be in Sunday's top of this building sitting there watching every lap I've watched laps with him up there and now to compete in the great American race and just starting. This race is enough alone. You know what I mean to have a chance to win it. It goes a long way. I mean every driver at this level is here because of that absolute competitive fire in the belly you WANNA compete compete compete to be able to be a part of the Daytona. Five hundred is one thing. Now that you've conquered this race is it different. Is that fire in the belly any different? Now that you've done it and you want to do it again. Yeah I mean you want to be too time after you do. It was the first time. So Noah Victory Lane looks like been there and how cool it is just the soak in that moment so oh man shares the moment just to have that opportunity again to replay it every day. I mean it's it's epic feeling I'd go get the Tattoo again. Yeah it was awesome. Well you're going to have that opportunity to get obviously come Sunday when when we look at what's already taken place and what's still to come here this week. Where do you feel like you are with your team? Just Alexander your crew chief. Where do you feel like things are for the opening weekend? Well I'm still pretty new. I thought Justin Nine Brandon. My new spotter really did well in the clash close. Came up really close to winning thing need a little help or maybe a little different decision for myself but felt like we'd have about as much as we could with what we had out there just in his very calling the radio. I love that I think it keeps me calm. The intensity levels probably where it needs to be for us to accomplish what we WANNA composition and that's just to be better to win multiple races. We know that we got to win multiple races when a championship mild mogollon. This sport is to win a championship to become the guy that all three I the truck spending cup so we got work to do to do that. From last year we struggled last year so our last race at homestead. That was something positive for us. I thought we run really well at that race and that was a different direction for our company as a whole as far as our bodies on our cars and we make smart decisions throughout the year to to do to do that to to put ourselves in a position to compete in the top ten. Every weekend if you do that you can get those chances to win multiple racist. You're already in one of the most prestigious clubs of all being called a Daytona. Five hundred champion all the best to you sunny to get to that next level that next buried a breakdown to be a two time. Daytona five hundred champion. Thanks Guys Really. Enjoy what you guys do. I sport thanks for everything. Thank you Austin Dillon a winner here at Daytona coming up more from Daytona. Five hundred media day when it comes to weekends. We're always left wondering what to do something exciting going on that. Everyone really troy then. You want the full throttle excitement of the fan..

"New season of empire and out loud presented by money line. Hello again everyone would. He came back with you and we are headed to the Daytona five hundred a little bit later on in the program. We're going to hear from David. Ragan as he makes his appearance in the five hundred even after saying he's stepping away from full time driving then we'll hear from Alex Hayden one of our co anchors on the motor racing network. But first let's talk to the front row of the Daytona five hundred. Mike Bagley is on scene and he spoke first with Ricky stenhouse junior growing growing up in olive branch Mississippi. Did you ever think you would be a pole winner for the Daytona. Five hundred. No not at all at that point at some point in my racing career I just I wanted to race for a living. I didn't care what it was but you know starting to come down here. To the speedway races specially with Brian Pattie puts a lot of hard work a lot. A lot of attention to detail and I knew that if I kept him as my crew chief at at some point we'd have a shot at Daytona. Five hundred pole You know he qualified on the pole with him and and two thousand. Seventeen coming over to JB doherty racing. The hard work that they put in. I mean Mike. Kelly go into the wind tunnel with our cars nonstop. You know the guys in the body shop. They'd cut a body off if they needed to Ernie and they got a good leadership from top to bottom of Jodi and Tad and and Ernie and it's just cool to see everybody working together and you know this this off season I felt like hey you know we we might have a shot at this knowing that Hendrick powers been on the front row this thing and winning polls for a long time and you know we we were with the same engine program Ram same bodies and I knew that we were have shot at so. It's pretty cool. So what is it the clicks between you and Brian. I don't know we both want to win. We both Like you know. Pay attention to details. We were both. OCD when it comes to the organization like and things a certain way and we've just clicked ever since day. You WanNa know different than Mike Kelly. A nine to have both of them in my corner You know switching over to a new team has been pretty beneficial this off season so looking looking forward to continuing that obviously this is just one weekend won qualifying run but I do know that. They're working just as hard on our vegas cars as well so I think this. Is You the things that come for for our coverage dory racing team and look forward to you know enjoying this for a few days before we gotta get into the Dole's what about you though so you just spent eleven years at Ross benway racing and this is an opportunity for you to hit the reset button and basically start a new chapter in your careers. We hit resell We hit we hit it with a with a stamp right there. I think you know no different than than Brian and Mike Mike. Mike Bennett. Rouse Fenway. A lot longer than I had and we feel like we both got things to prove in the sports still and you know. We've we've won. We've we've done things but you know you're you're only as good as your last race last season season and and so we got lots of proof and our cup career and definitely as things go our way sometimes and then. We've we've struggled at times but all in all we're here working hard and it's a good way to hit the reset button for sure. What about the race team? You come from a larger race team to now a team that a lot of folks you'll feel homegrown team. It's a smaller team. That some of the big conglomerates how do you fit into that and is a good fit for you. It's a great fit for me. I grew grab racing family sprint car and run run and go-carts with my dad and you know the family atmosphere there. It's you know they they didn't they. Don't just hire the worker. They hire the family and we do a lot of things together and look forward to continued and you know that relationship with with all the employees at the company. And you know it's It's pretty special. I wish Jodi Tatra here They stayed at home this week continuing to work. There's always working hard on our next dill's for for keeping this race team going and looking forward to talking to jody little bit later this'll be your ninth Daytona five hundred. We obviously wish you the best. A lot of fans do as well to seems to be a good time for you and it's off to a great start. It's off to a great start. y'All know I love speedway racing We put a lot effort into it are fast cars definitely help throughout the racist making moves and we still got a lot to learn this. This Chevy drives. Now's a little bit different than than what I've been used to on the speedways but we'll get it out in for sure. Is there an art to speedway racing. Definitely an art you you you pick up on things you learn earn things and I think you're always learning every race. I mean we. We were out there in our practice session and I was learning obviously switching cars. Learn in an you know a lot of what this car is capable of and what its characteristics are but you whether you're learning about the draft or learning about your competitors. I I feel like you're always learning and you keep those things in mind. All Right Picasso goal ever have it like Sunday. Thank you so stenhouse shows he can still get it done at the super speedways. Can he wound up in the front on at the end of the Daytona five hundred that remains to be seen but mike also caught up with the other side of the front row. Alex Bowman well. There's there's something about a Sunday afternoon at February in Daytona tone of Alex. Bowman it's been it's been quite a run for you. As far as five hundred qualifying again you put the Ada car on the outside of the front row your thoughts about getting that Great Star for the Great American race it's always great you know the Daytona five hundred such a big event so to be on the front row. It's really neat. Obviously you WANNA be one spot better. But I think the mullet was the Was the deal breaker there. If I would have grown a mullet like ricky out about a half a tenth better but that's all right we'll take second we just gotTa be one spot better in the race and I I think we have a great shot at it. These Hendrick cars are so good down here. Hundred horsepower under the hood. It's it's great. Our speedway cars are always amazing so excited to get going here in the clash later today and then come Sunday. We're we're going to be up front about the dynamic of this race team. You're back with Greg. Is this year you WanNa race last year. Seems like you guys have a lot of men coming into this race season. Yeah I think so. We've we've got some new faces and everybody seems to be working together really. Well Greg and I are getting along great. He keeps asking me how how to cheat up his box. Stock to go run mill bridge. So we'RE GONNA WE'RE GONNA cheat up his box dot forum like like we do the midgets for Chili Bowl and it's a great relationship. We have a lot of fun. There is an art to racing at Daytona. And there's an art of using the draft and the side drafting. Is that an ongoing thing that you as a driver. Try to fine-tune your skills also because you're pretty good I would say restrictor plate race or taper spacer racer now. Yeah I mean I. It's always changing right. The draft is always changing. The bodies of the cars are constantly getting tweets there. Obviously we have a new camera body here and and it's quite a bit different so how the draft is GonNa work is always going to be changing and you're always going to have guys figuring out new tricks and you're trying to figure it out and keep up. Keep up with them. The do obviously is the final shakedown. And then he got a couple more practice sessions but it was that you've got the speed. Obviously now there's one more thing to check off the list. Let's the execution of the great American race. Yeah for sure. The doors are tough when here on the front row. Typically we're obviously really trimmed out and here for qualifying but we'll see what it doesn't Dole and then go from there. Thanks Mike. There's your front fraught row.

"And then one member from the pioneer era nineteen sixty or earlier now NASCAR has also updated the criteria for consideration for crew crew chiefs. Lot of season there in this morning to fall in line with that of drivers crew chiefs must now be in the sport for at least ten years and must must be retired or at least two years to be considered. Now if accrue colpon rule I probably just happened now if a crew chief has so he's not going to be a hall of Famer that's messed up same. See if he's been in for ten years I mean look giving so if a crew. Chief has competed in the sport for for more than thirty years. What is wrong with them? First of all. She's over the age of fifty five. They are eligible legible. While they're still active I would hope so right so no coal pearn would not be eligible. he was a crew chief for five seasons in his five seasons. One hundred seventy nine starts. He had twenty four wins. Seventy top. Five's one hundred ten top tens twelve poles and you WanNa Championship. A- finished second in points twice in those five years. Yeah that's not hall of Famer. They sorry yeah seriously. You didn't you didn't do it for ten years. So that's what we that's just ridiculous that is I mean I think you cannot argue that during that span he was definitely the best crew chief in Nascar. What is length of service? Have anything to do with this. That doesn't make any sense. It's the hall of fame which should be for the best of the best and I think for the full five years he was here he was about the best crew. Chief you you'd have hell one year if you if you're a crew chief for one cup series year and you win a bunch of races and you're the champion. I'd say that's hall of Fame Martin Church. Juniors career was on life support before you found coal pearn. Let's not forget that so I haven't forgotten so so I mean there's a lot of that that was coal pearn. That is ridiculous. I'm sorry NASCAR I'm calling you guys out. That's just stupid. Yeah in just five seasons by the way move the number seventy eight and number nineteen car that he kerchiefed so five seasons led seven thousand sixteen laps. That's a lot of laps in five seasons and for you off the tongues. Well now I had to actually practice I and hey how about this the preliminary entry lists for the Daytona. Five hundred has been released. Oh yeah that's Forty three cars are going to be battling for forty spots. It looks.

"To the program thanks for having me all right we're we're we're getting ready for daytona this weekend it's it's not technically the mid season but it's you know the the season starts with daytona and now we're back at daytona under the lights we'll get your picks in just a second but let's talk about motor sports betting general it's becoming a big thing right yeah absolutely it's really putting in the last couple of years it's been a huge thing europe for a long time but obviously now with sports betting becoming legal in the united states is it's becoming more and more of a thing over here yeah definitely i mean with that with that new law coming into play it it's going to get bigger and bigger i would guess yeah absolutely in the the betting at speedway's is going to be a huge thing i think in the next years you think that's going to come to fruition literally at the speedway yeah i mean that's that's kind of the the shape of the law that the supreme court court was allowing there are still some obstacles to online betting in the united states but inperson betting racetracks and stuff was what was being made specifically legal so how does that all work is it going to be kind of like fantasy racing picks or how does the process of betting on your favorite car driver work have you ever been to a horse racetrack well i was going to i was gonna yes of course i i was going to go with that analogy but i wasn't sure if it was the same i think it's gonna be pretty similar to that there's gonna be a betting window you're gonna get to pick your your favorite drivers you'll be able to make i think exact is super sectors and all kinds of fun beds like that and and hold you tickets to the end of the rate so the only difference is horses only go one lap and you know nascar goes you know five hundred sometimes well yeah that's more or less the only real difference well there's a few others but it's kind of funny that way so how did you get involved with this have you always been a part of a regular sports betting in general in working with my spot my top sports books for few years now i handle all of their motor sports betting content and i've only just recently got an into nascar my focus was previously on formula one and bodo gp but i've gotten nascar recently and it's a lot of fun it's it's a very refreshing to cover a sport were just about anyone can win so does it kind of at a another level of excitement when you get involved with your own money beyond safe annecy racing absolutely you know having some skin in the game really i mean i'm just imagining all the people grad the on kyle larson and how they feel or or people that have money on cow bush like it's a it definitely amplifies the excitement of that final nothing really gets more exciting than last week's finish how about that i mean like you said if you if you had a bet on either one of those drivers you're yelling at your tv or you're in the stands yelling even louder i would guess yeah i i wish i was in the cloud screen repair business but yeah like coming from formula one though i was amazing to see because if driver had done that at the the monaco grand prix i mean they you know probably be taken outside and shot but you know that and and it's it's just fantastic grazing fantastic was we're talking to jeff johnson from my top sports books dot.

"That that that picture that we see is shattered daytona in his dad's not there anymore and emotionally we're connected to deal junior because of his dad because of that loss that profound that public laws were connected they'll junior and we want him to succeed we want him to succeed and to carry that on indicated that tradition and to be that guy the we want that to happen more than anything else and whether you're a junior fan or whether you earn her fan it doesn't make any difference it's a human emotion of loss it's the loss of what could have been loss of what we might have seen the loss of what could have happened and we're connected to they'll junior and we watch him and you know i think it's been incredibly unfair to him that so many fane have projected all that on the him and made him carry it all these years but he's carried it would honor and girls he truly has he has been an amazing individual off the racetrack in the way he handled himself in the way he carried it and he's become they'll junior and we watched him grow up we watched him mature in media energy wants to mature in front of the camera we watched and get married we watched him you know his hopes and dreams and aspiration and when we think of somebody and he's our favorite son is that guy and we've seen it without the other public figures who have lost parents or who have lost lost individuals as there's some kind of emotional connection so much deeper than the sport so much deeper than what he does on the racetrack it it's a personal thing and you know i don't i don't think that anyone will connect the way that he is connected with fans and connected with with people inside and outside the sports of quite possibly ever i don't i don't think we'll ever see that that type of admiration again but i think that's something that that is an intangible that nobody wants to follow that road i'll say that but he has been a true ambassador for the sport inside.
