"You know, they're concerned, I think, rightly so about the integrity of the competition, so to your point From the player's perspective, they could say, you know if you expand the playoffs That's gonna lower salaries. But there's also a flip side of that, whereas if you expand the playoffs by a couple of teams You would think some of the teams would have that are going to tank or consider it Would have difficulty selling that to their fans. Because look, the playoffs are expanded. So hey, maybe next year we have a chance to make the playoffs. So why? You know if I'm a fan of safety Baltimore keep with that example. You know what? Why? What the fans could demand more of the Orioles that first year when they were going to cut back and tank because, Hey, there's extra playoff slots this year. You know, you guys that's reprehensible if you tank So it kind of goes both ways. And you know how it ends up. Well, we'll see. But I don't know shit. Integrity is an issue right? And I don't think that holds much water for the reason I do. And the reason you gave his absolutely added to that if you only finished five games out of the last wild card going into the next season, you you make up five games. You finish 17 games out the last wild card. Well, yeah, we're still in rebuilding mode. We're not gonna spending money this offseason. Uh, that's a neck So one additional point from Scott Miller here with his on CBS Sports Radio. All right, let's move it on the field. Speaking of tanking If you're Colorado Rocky fan after the trade they made this week for Nolan are Granado. Can you accuse them of tanking? Well, I think no question. I don't care what they say. It's I mean to trade away on eight time. Gold. Glover what the guy that's probably the finest third basement of the last 10 years. A guy you sign into an extension of the guy that was gonna be a corner piece of cornerstone of your team. And You know, it's not just the fact that they traded him away if they would have traded him away for like. Or top 10 prospects that were about major league ready and you were thinking you were going to get the next Fernando Tatty Junior or the next Walker Bueller. You could defend the trade more but to trade her, not alway and sent $50 million with him. On Get back. You know nothing against four prospects of getting back, But you know, copper, the probably the top guy, you know, from the picture from color from ST Louis going Colorado. He's 27. I mean, it's not like he's some 20 year old with, you know, climbing the charts with a bullet next to his name. I think there's no question if you're Rocky's fan today, you've got to be like the respondent and you've got a you know, there's got to be a group vote of no confidence. General manager Jeff Bridge. Night. Uh, my hometown Phillies kind of a good news. Bad news situation that a good week they bring back J. T V L Moto, arguably the best catcher in baseball. That can't possibly be a bad thing. Uh, they paid him going rate. They paid him just above 23 million per year, which, where Joe Mauer. It's at the bar before they probably would have preferred to go four years. They went five to get it done. Same thing with d D Gregorius. Who was arguably the Phillies best offense player last year. As a matter of fact, they gave him and actually year he wanted to. They gave him two. They probably wanted to hold the line at one because a bunch of short stops like Andrelton Simmons like Market Simeon Upside one year deal. DD got two boats. Good guys to bring back both fair prices. Not keep my hometown discount, but not blatant overpays either. But here's the bad news. They had both of those guys. Last year they finished below. 500 didn't make an expanded playoffs. They got back into the race. It's not as obvious that the Nats And the Braves and the Mets are better than the Phillies. But have they done enough to stay competitive into the last couple weeks of the season with those other teams? Yeah, it's I mean, it's our It's arguable. No question about it, Jody. I think Yeah, they are the two guys. You know, they mean there's not gonna be the buzz and feeling is the couple winters back when they signed Bryce Harper right on down, and there's all kinds of like, Oh, my God, they got Bryce Harper while we know Now Bryce has a few things to prove as well Still, but Um, you know, the buzz isn't going to be there, but You know, Jakey Real Muto. If they don't bring him back. I mean, that's a huge loss. I mean, they pretty much had to bring it back catching is thin and the major leagues anyway. Um, you know, and it reminds me of the old great. You know, Casey Stengel line I love cases figure like he said, you know? Hey, you gotta have a catcher because if you don't have a catcher than the ball rolls all the way back to the backstop, some are better than others. Real Muto's one that is better than others. But You know, I think bringing Dave Dabrowski and is, you know Georgia already last year and now the to manage and then Dubrowski Atley Sta Fillies are sending signals that there They're trying to win. And while real Muto and DeGregory us great Didi Gregorius might not is, I say light up the curating like Bryce did a couple years ago. Early, still moving forward to me to where they're trying to win. That's I mean, I understand. Ah, lot of teams of law are losing a lot of money Last year, They lost a lot of money. A lot of teams of late people off. It's tough out there right now. Economically in this pandemic in the baseball world, But one thing that really strikes me about this winter. Jody is you look around. I mean, it's not even just about who's signing who But you look around you're dividing into which teams are actually trying to win and which are not. And the teams that are actually Big seriously trying to win. It's a alarmingly short list. I mean, San Diego obviously is in there. Uh, you know the Dodgers? Uh, you know, Toronto's made a couple nice moves trying to bring it bring in George Springer signing Kirby Yates. I think the Phillies by bringing their guys back. Real mutual and Gregorius are in there. You know, Mets traded for Lynn Door, but you know, just like we're talking about Aaron. I know a minute ago. I mean, The thing is striking about that deal as well to me. The Cardinals are the only team in the National League Central that now that by that move, they they actually seemed to be trying to win. I mean, the Cubs are downsizing. Pittsburgh's and a perennial rebuild mode. Milwaukee hasn't done much. I mean, there's hardly been any free agents sign period in the National League Central, so you know cardinals. Made a statement with that with this impending trade that had quite been finalized yet. Yeah, I think Like I said, to a lesser degree, the Phillies do that, too. All right, Scotty. Last thing um, the last I'd take a couple of months, the December of 2020 and now in January of 2021 sports in general, But maybe even baseball more specific. Have been hard hit with mortality. Ah, ah Hall of Famers in all time greats like Lou Brock, Joe Morgan. Tom Seaver out K line, Tommy, Listen. What sort of more recently Don Sutton Henry Aaron..

"Just a. I mean i know i'm a hypocrite because one of my favorite bengals law goes as the two d helmet. I mean law teams. Use it. In fact i think the colts and the chargers still use it as their midfield logo. I think but i. I was like that by nanna. Had a bengals cup win. Cincinnati made the super bowl in nineteen eighty eight. And honestly. i liked. That cup ended talked about how nineteen eighty eight bengals went twelve and four so really happy. I i don't know. Why am that cup and i miss my nanna because you know and i talk sports pop i we were. You know we talk sports all the time. And he's like just terrible aren't they. They are pop and now the don't get me started on. The shortstop sweepstakes for cincinnati is gone. So bad they pick a rule five draft from after the phillies signed didi gregoria swoop was considered the last big shortstop the reds just whiff on that so unless they go jose garcia and actually it's kyle holder the pickup for the reds on rufai draft. Meaning he's got to be on the active roster the entire season he goes back to philadelphia. There's no evidence or butts on that anyway back to the bengals new look. There's been a lot of designs out there on the internet. Pity i can't find a lot of them. There's been a lot of people saying. Hey the helmets to change. It's not sorry. And i'm glad it's not changing because i think that is the identity of bengals for all the bengals stripes on the helmet. There's been a few people that want white helmets with the black stripes for cole collar rush. I know there's white tigers out there. But just i feel like. You're trying to be the raiders at this point. All you need the silver in fact. I think there was a design choice where it had silver outlines like. Why are we moving to oakland. We better not be. There is a design from l w of sports dot.

"We will have a guest about the senior ball coming up in only about 15 minutes from now somewhere thereabouts. I did want to talk about a couple of Major League baseball moves the Nolan our now to trade to the Cardinals. Damn. If you're willing to take on a massive salary these days, you can get a tremendous value. Tremendous talent. For not a whole hell of a lot in return. A couple of trades that have gone down in the last year or so, in baseball, where it's just obvious that team paid a player too much money or wasn't willing to pay a player what he's going to get on the open market if he actually got there. If the prospects that are being Bandied about that could go from the Cardinals to the Rockies are accurate, and I've seen some of the best baseball writers and insiders speculate on who those could be. There's no superstar in the making among them now 1 may develop into that, but just not rated and or thought of and on that level of this time, they got a big chunk of his salary to be included in the trade, but still leaves a very sizable contract for them to fulfill for Nolan and Renato. But the Cardinals just improve their chances, greatly. A couple other signings, the Phillies getting very much Involved in the thick of things. They had not had a great offseason. Other teams in their division Braves. It improved themselves Mets it improved themselves. Nationals had improved themselves well, the Phillies got back into it by running things back. Bringing back Jakey Val Moto on a five year contract. And today signing D. D Gregorius to a two year contract. Fillies are still going to try and compete financially geek this upcoming year. So there is a getting something in my neck. Are you saying this is a rumor or an official deal that's being announced? No. Yeah. ESPN as ESPN is announcing that Gary God Adam Schefter is reporting Shafter is reporting that Jared got is going from the Los Angeles Rams. Who? The Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford. So an older quarterback for a younger quarterback, but perhaps a more talented older quarterback for a young Has he hit his potential, or is there still upside left to him? Both of them under contract and both of them making a lot of money? Interesting deal. Jared Goff. Or Matthew Stafford. Well, that's going to cut down on the carousel quarterbacks during the off season because there's straight up trade quarterback for quarterback. It's more fun when of quarterback. It's traded one place and then another quarterback has to be traded. Clear a spot for him and like if you could do it straight up deal. One guy for the other. That is pretty good. So I do want to talk about the quarterback counsel. You want to come in time that trade Rams fans or lions fans get on my telephone lines. But here's the first question I'm gonna throw out to. You know, I'm going to tell you why this is gonna be my first question. I did not plan on this being my first question when I was prepping my show today. We've got three guests coming your way. Rick. Sorry. Tele NFL draft Bible covering the senior ball will talk who looked good in mobile this week and in today's game and how that.

"E guess Here's the question that I have it. They're in a bridge loan kind of scenario. In other words, a Renna shortstop kind of deal. You could argue maybe a year, maybe two until you know they're able to get something that they develop inside the organization at this point is the kid's not ready yet. Uhm so who's left in? How much money do they really have to play with and being in this market? Even there's a whole lot of TV dollars. I think that either opened up last year into this year. We're gonna have some money to play with. But how much in in? What does that mean? Because we still are in the county won't utter this, but I'm going to because it's a reality. We don't know We cove it what the hell is really gonna happen in the future? Because it's still in flocks. That's kind of the big question, right? What do they have to spend? Because probably if I were looking at the shortstop options at the beginning of the offseason, the guy that I was hoping the Reds would go get Marcus Simeon. Sign with a Blue Jays for 11 year $18 million. I think that would have price the Reds out of it. I mean, that's a lot of money for one year. So now you're looking at D D Gregorius is still out there. And he's aging. I love the guy, but he was the best option. Yeah, but what we're talking about, like 10 to $12 million, right? And that seems like a huge amount of money for me. Yeah. I mean, not me personally is way beyond my price range. Personally, but but, I mean, it seems like a lot of money. Even for this situation it's in. It's possible because there's some other guys out there, but they don't profile in near as good as D. D. Gregorius does. He's the guy that moves the needle at shortstop. Then you look OK, well, maybe they can go and make a trade. Trevor story is a possibility, though the Rockies have not publicly like said anything. There's not been any public reports that he's available. So then you look at some rumors that floated the other day in a guy named Ahmed Rosario. Traded from the Mets to the Indians in a deal for Francisco and door He's interesting, but if they make a deal for that, they're looking for the 2019 version of Rosario. Not the 2020 version. 2020. He barely got on base it all And so that's not gonna help them out. It's just it's they've been backed into a corner by not setting the market at shortstop, because now it looks like Devi might be too expensive. You know, And also there's the other thing Aside from the monies, and you look it output offensively in that team, which we expected to be pretty healthy with the bats seemed to not be there last year, for whatever reason it happened to be. But it also boils down to the same thing that it seems like it always is. Dittrich. And you know Trevor Bauer, of course, is in another stratosphere and talking whether the Mets are at this point salivating at the idea of bringing him into the fold in the Mets. I mean, they have all kinds of bad luck so well, no matter how much money they spend, it is not always a good outcome, and it's always a crapshoot. Anyway. That's the magic in the beauty of what the game is, is because you've still got a play to make it happen. And you gotta build that chemistry and everything, especially in a market like Cincinnati, right? I mean, it all has to sort of come together. So if there's not a whole lot of people out there, and you've got a question about pitching, where are they now? With pitching all in all, I think They're set up pretty nice, The guy that they've got coming back. That really excites me, as obviously Tyler Malli Dude has taking big steps over the last couple of years since he's come up from the minor leagues..

Now do you take that baseball? Do you go? Track. It down. Do you bring it up to Cooperstown is going to be on display for future generations to sing? Oh, yeah. Probably accept the they're just gonna hit a home run tomorrow or two and Friday and Saturday. Mean you guys you guys are just a home run hitting machine there. Yeah. I mean, we are held its the sport. I just need another pitcher tonight. Talk about we bring. Breached, you guys know who held the pre Didi gregorius was euphoria because he just had a home run. I earned right now. So so we can. Geared, no record who was the previous record holder who's record to the Yankees break last night. Now admittedly had a little time to kill us night. So I looked this up. I know I don't know. I guess, maybe like Oakland or somebody, you wouldn't expect three thousand two Texas Rangers. Wow. So that was so that record last Lankan Zala 's and Raphael Palmeiro. Hey, roxanne. I don't know how they factored into this. That was Palmeiro forty-three summer. Somebody named Herbert Perry. Tell me out, don't call that. Twenty two Pudge was their nineteen so that was that was that two thousand two squad. That was that was slugging team in a sluggers park in two thousand dozen nineteen the ball's juiced in two thousand and two the players were pretty much when we're saying a rod Palmeiro where the leaders that year. I don't know every year when a streak started going to they pop champagne, the way the dolphins do when somebody eventually lose urban Peri fifty five career home runs. Yeah. Well that year he was up to twenty he had half of them in one year. I mean come on, like that guy. Wasn't on the juice. While you hang around five career home runs, and he had twenty two and one season era and Palmero. I mean birds of a feather, I suppose good for that guy. Look, I would have done the same thing also. I wanna point out last night what happened in Baltimore. Because it being a radio host and San Diego for all the years. Manny Machado return home the Baltimore. I'm again, I'm just guessing the way you're predisposed to feel about Manny Machado, not a big fan. Good job understandable. He gets booed everywhere. He goes, except for last night, and that's been common since he signed with San Diego. He gets booed every place. He goes in Pittsburgh. So you understand it. Boston markets. But last night returning home the Baltimore where he started his career. Good job out of the Orioles. You never know how that's going to go on a player returns, then he was traded didn't leave him free agency this, there shouldn't be any hard feelings, but got a standing ovation. Hit a home run hit the longest homerun of his career at Camden Yards yesterday afternoon. How about that four hundred fifty five feet. Wow. Rocket for Manny Machado. But you never quite know how that's gonna go over when a player returns, specially player of that caliber, especially a player who when he is on the road. Here's it everywhere consistently and has accepted that villainous status in major league baseball. But I thought it good job outta the Orioles last night. How is Manny Machado received down in San Diego? Manny Machado was very well received in San Diego. Manny Machado that you have to understand this has never happened. It was never happened. Big guy, a player of this Cal chosen, right? I would tell you that he's coming along at a time where there's a lot of. Optimism. "Throws ice date. Raptors one fourteen lawyers one ten I ever NBA championship of the city of Toronto and the first Canadian championship in any of the major sports since the nineteen Ninety-three Bluejays, here's Nick nurse on his teams resulting never seemed tired to me. Mentally, they kept wanting to film sessions. They kept wanting to walk through things. They kept wanting to keep learning and improving and I think that was a big key because we had to do that. And at the championship. Out in game five when he did say they needed to blow their that's true. I guess physical more than the mental side. But yes, they repaid him with another road victory last night in game six collide Leonard no surprise finals MVP. He had twenty two points in this one comes to Toronto for one season, and he reaches the pinnacle Marco sued when I was there opening day meeting, but it was focused on now. You know, I wanted to make his three year and that's all I did. We'll see where he's headed next on for the warriors. Maybe not the end of their run, but definitely questions to be answered the Kevin Durant injury and his whole situation, and they'll Klay Thompson facing a lengthy rehab after tearing his ACL late in the third quarter. Steph curry, though, says this was not the end DNA. And, and, and, you know, the Kerry today that we have on this team, I wouldn't bet against this, you know, being back on the stage next year and, and going forward similar thoughts. Draymond green not doing it. You know we, we lost this year. Clearly our year. But. Thought to cooking chromosome town huge game from him last night. Eleven points, nineteen rebounds thirteen assists. Three steals, two blocks, did have eight turnovers though warriors under Joe lacob on the major injuries suffered in a three day span. Quote the last week has just been a nightmare and here he was talking about Klay before the game. Speaking with Sports Illustrated, quote, not allowed to say where we're going to do. I'll just say I love Klay Thompson. We love Klay Thompson. We find it very difficult to see Klay Thompson in any other uniform. You wonder if the injury and Pakistan is move forward with them. Man. I don't think so I really don't think that they moving into that new arena. The uncertainty with Durant clay being younger being there as a homegrown guy. There is no way that they're gonna let him get away. Or there's no way that they're going to have him finish his career elsewhere. In the shame of this whole thing, too, is, you know, Klay Thompson was in this game was their leading score thirty or like he was thirty something explosive totally healthy was taken the game over. I mean, he was I really thought that he was single handling going to. This series two seven and they didn't have an opportunity in the fourth quarter to be able to do that. He was also the one guy that when Kevin Durant went down. He had he had a raise the level of his game because he was going to get more shots. More opportunities and against the rockets. He did it against the blazers, he did it. And then he was in the midst of doing it against the Toronto Raptors. And then he hers hamstring for game three and then now he blows his knee out. And you wonder if the hamstring and the knee have any correlation well the way. There's an awkward, right Donald bike. So, but but to me, is like whether you thought they were better with Durant without Durant. That's, that's not the point. The point is, is that Thompson had to do more to ramp wasn't gonna be there. And he has shown you to be a great basketball player himself. We kind of forget about that because he kinda got lost in the shuffle one Kevin was out there. And Kevin would take twenty shots and therefore Klay Thompson would go from say, twenty shots down to twelve in the fact that the warriors still had an opportunity with that. Steph curry three to win. The game is, is remarkable open. Look a little shaky cross court. But I mean you hit shots like that before the raptors game an opportunity with the turnover led to that possession. And I thought he I thought Steph curry was going to drill it. He didn't and the raptor. When Didi gregorius went down with his Tommy, John surgery. And you watch DD play now looks like he's fine and seven for fifteen. Since coming back. Yeah. But he looks like the point bingos defensively. Try to find a couple of errors. But no, he is. Yes. So last night, they had a double play. And the reason I'm bringing this up is because that injury was terrible injury. When it was announced figure out when are you going to see him next and everybody thought after the all star game? And now he's back before the all star game unless signing an easy throw from second base to turn a double play. And he does it side on. This guy had Tommy, John surgery. So whoever did the Tommy, John surgery should have done the killing surgery for Kevin Durant. He got came with a New York hospital for special surgery. Guys, are he does? Yeah. A lot of the NBA. Foot and ankle guy. Bright. Yes. He does all those achilles injuries. Yeah. Yeah. I taught Molly headed Zuhdi achilles surgery. I did that. That was me. He didn't. He was on a different path, and his, but I said, listen is market for this. If you wanted if you wanna repay these achilles. I tell you. The home. Anyway, as the raptors were celebrating on the court. You had the reports me. SPN Josiah, Adrian Woessner Ascii, that raptors president of basketball operations, Masai, Jerry could be offered a deal from the wizards that would approach ten million dollars per year and delivered him the opportunity for ownership equity. So obviously the wizards looking for him to come over and run their basketball operations. However you Jiri now with the Ada County sheriff's department claiming that he hit a deputy in the face as he was trying to reach the court just after the game last night. There is a brief video floating around that appears to show the moments just after the altercation, but the man in the suit and the video clearly appears to be, Jerry. We'll see if anything comes to that, or if there any further videos that surface in the coming hours or days. How about Kemba Walker yesterday? Speaking at a youth basketball camp in Charlotte as we look towards now what's going to be a wild couple of weeks and months in the NBA, saying that he would take less for sure to stay with the Hornets rice is a guy who is now. For the supermax after being named to the all NBA team. So I don't know if it was just the pressure of the cameras there. He's at a youth basketball, then maybe he doesn't want to be talking about. Yeah. I'm gonna I need the most money fossil. But he made it sound like he'd be willing to take less stay with the Hornets. We'll see what happens with that. A free agency. Get started here in the zoo, see it from both sides. And if Kemba Walker says, hey, I'll take less because I want to be on a winning team suck up all the cap. And this is great and I like to be here and boy enough to one hundred ninety million. You could be the Tom Brady of NBA player not married to show that is true. But then on the other side of it, you know, you see Kevin Durant, who has an opportunity at a supermax Klay Thompson has got an opportunity, not the supermax because he didn't make the right. That's right. So some about that, that is in bucks. That is so okay. So the opportunity for for one ninety still. Right. Which is incredible. But and then you see the injuries that they have. And you think when you have an opportunity today, every last dollar you take every last dollar if you're the athletes. So you I commend those who look at the roster and say, I want to be on a winner, but I don't blame anybody who buys after every penny. So when are we going to see Charlotte in the finals of the Eastern Conference anytime soon? Probably not tell you boy. Evan was just out here breaking down for me. How wide open both conferences are potentially at the moment because of all these moving pieces. And uncertainties, obviously, the west opens up now because the warriors are going to be dealing with injuries, and if coli or Anthony Davis end up. You know, with the Lakers and whatnot or the clippers. East and what is Houston going to do because talking about moving guy. Everyone is everybody except hard, maybe so old now with the reality of the warriors. Why not bring the same team back? Right. I mean, that's what they were thinking prior to these, these injuries, and Kevin Durant. You're saying Houston. Oh, why would blow it up? Now. Because Avery it's the Lakers. End up stacking, their team along with LeBron like if they if they if they somehow Brock Hawaiian or second guy under AD, and LeBron. Yeah. I don't know. I can't believe Leonard's going to leave Toronto. I just can't. Do it like, okay came and won the championship. Can't do much better than that. Yeah. I mean it depends he and he's a guy you just don't know no clue with the game last night. There were some okay smiled a little bit waved his arms in the air. But he was he didn't get a lot of emotion or excitement. He was asked directly by Doris Bergen on the court about staying and he said, I'm going to celebrate with my teammates. Worry about. Okay. You can just one letter. You just want the NBA championship team is, let me okay? Actually, some more exciting to watch the video of Steph curry calling Drake to congratulate him they had, in fact in the bowels of or green, and he was more like, you know, laughing and joking and congrat- yet. More excitement in a losing position, congratulating Drake than Kawhi Leonard did I mean, I understand it's different personalities but man, why is great comedic. Congratulations. Who knows? Maybe he and Currier boys. I'm not sure he didn't do anything. I understand. Well, didn't he didn't Drake, get a tattoo of Kevin Durant, and Steph, Curry's jersey numbers. I guess all those guys he's all give Klay. My best, you know, and can tell them pulling form, you know, he already had his wherever he was curry was, like, how'd you get a championship header, and he was wearing championship hat wherever it was. It's a lot easier to be gracious in defeat three in your back pocket. Right. Not bad. Let's do a little on the baseball. So the bizarre scene at city field last night as they end the bottom of the eighth the Mets take the field. It had been raining. They're up by two. It's a four game. And the fires are talking with the grounds crew. And they're starting to bring the tarp out and looks like there's gonna be a delay. And then Pete Alonzo looking like, you know, a fat retired softball. He's got his glove stuffed, and his Jersey's like waving his arms. He goes over to Micky Calloway's trying to tell the empire's like, no, let's play the rains lightning up, and this was the description from Gary Cohn.

"So they get the deals done earlier this week with not just Severino late last week. I should say they get the deal done with Aaron Hicks. And now we're talking about Dede gregorious and Delaware chances rediscussed a little bit yesterday. But gregorious even all the. Tommy John surgery, not going to see him for a while. They're talking about getting long-term deals done. Now. Come and get it out like candy. They're just not giving out as much as they used to. Are they crazy? Are they crazy like a FOX? And you know, I think they rebuilt us their strategy and their playbook, and we thought I thought that you know, when they were talking about getting underneath the luxury tax and all that stuff last year is because they were going to be big spenders for guys name Machado and Harper. But it seems to me that they identified that is something to be said about chemistry, and it'd be said about glue guys they've identified DD as glue guy. I've seen Aaron Haixing. No. He wasn't drafted by these guys come through the system, but he's been here long enough that he's a cultural it became like one of the guys like like he was homegrown. And they realized that if they do this. They can they can keep more than if they go out, and they they go get a Harper number child. And we know what is going to be at the expense of a Hicks. Maybe a DD maybe Andrew Harr. But this allows them to come in under price. I wonder how much the analytics department really had to do with this and saying, hey, listen, we want to make these guys are core. We spend this money now. We it's a net positive at this number, and I think part of its analytics, Barbara, I think part of it is the players not why are more willing to take deals than they will to go to free agency. Because Aaron Hicks is a guy would had been up at the end of the year. The thing about Didi gregorius the guys the injured how often do you hear about teams negotiating big contract extension? While they're injured. Shipped out. But it's just so funny to me like Didi, we think we're going to see him in June. We hope we're going to see him in June, maybe July. Okay, that's totally palatable. And if the Yankees of tool whiskies can stay healthy, if labor eskimo or move over whatever it's fine to identify Didi gregorius is someone you want for the future. But don't you want to know how he heals from the Tommy John right now? I think the bargain that good willing to just say, hey, we're going to give one hundred million dollars just one hundred twenty if he were a picture that wouldn't be talking about it. I think right now, they are doing everything they can to make some deals that are going to be very palatable. And when you have an opportunity like with you do with DD right now. Hey, it's the same thing. I've talked about the last few days he might be scared. Debbie might be looking at this next year. I'm going to be a free agent. I'm only going to half a half a year under my belt teams are going to be looking at me. Like, wait a second. You missed all a half. From last year and a good chunk of the year before why my handing you ninety million dollars. I mean, the Yankees is it really just off the charts to think that they could get a similar deal done. I think a little bit more, but a similar deal done with gregorious that they got done with Hicks. Do you think they're gonna get away with paying less than one hundred billion dollars are? They are. I absolutely think they are. And I think. Bruce here that are. The opportunity right now. And Brian Cashman is going all in after every deal. He can get done to lock the Yankees and financially over the next several years. We see this happening across the league. But I think you'll they teams realized that the time to buy now is now because when the CBA comes up if I'm if I'm if I'm a free agent. I'm fighting for is the clock ticking is could ticket. So this is going to be looked back at the golden era and guys that signed today going to look back, and they're going to look at the guy said, I think come after the new CBA comes out and say man, like maybe I should have waited what would have happened. If I waited because I feel like if the fisa fight to be had by the players union is going to be for control and not being able to have the six years of control. If you okay, I get it every thirty you're not paying these ten year contracts. Gregoria sister going to be thirty thirty bell Matanzas is going to be. Thirty one by the time. He's a free agent. Right. So what I'm saying is for like the end of the world, and the glares I feel like it's going to be reset in. The key is going service time. We'll be service. I'm what I'm curious. If you have this fight as a union are these guys like hard glare. They're going to be grandfathered in to the new CBA. Right. And meaning okay is going to be time served your free as it. It's like, oh, you're coming up on your second year of arbitration. No, just kidding. You're a free agent right side, the signing of a pen or the stroke of a pen, rather, right? It's always a weird transition period. Because that's kind of what happened with our benefits program in packaging for guys who got the line of duty and all that stuff that happens, and we're pre people don't know line of duty. It's a it's a formula for for NFL players with the time that you play it in the league, and how much money you may. And you get that every month for seven years. So I played eleven years. I forget how much I made. But I get like fifty four hundred a month, and it goes for seven years, right? So it's like different benefits programs and other guys were would that were on that line that came in in two thousand they kind of got grandfather, Dan, the other players are kinda came in ninety nine. They didn't get the benefits they didn't get the health benefits. If they're going to do that at think, maybe those guys if they find to be had if they get grandfathered in the name may be a solution for God's to get the free agency a lot earlier and cut these arbitration years now, so the guys can get the ten year contracts again, but they're getting it at twenty two. I know I feel like I'm listening to a lot of players out there and a couple who have gone as far as the say they were there were definitely uh strike in twenty twenty one. Because that's a big thing to ask. It's a it seems like it's a it would be fair for the players right to be able to get two free agency earlier in their careers, but as we know with contract negotiations, sometimes we expect really big changes to happen. And they kind of don't that would be a big ask. So they're gonna the players are gonna have to give up a big concession if the owners are going to agree to that. And I don't know how that would shake out if it ends up being a positive for the players when all said, well, just remember we've talked about the players association having a hammer in so many ways it's the one area where they haven't when they were finally granted free agency having them for less than six years control has never been the case once hit the major leagues let alone being in the minor leagues. Here's the here's the lesson. Kids. You got a chance to go and play on a high school don't play. Now, they're all gonna go screw in college. We'll get to that later. Honestly, I know know, the three years of college. And listen that's been the case forever. We're those guys were getting a lot more money out of high school has teams want you in their sister. They want to train you their way. But all of you guys coming out of college. You're more of a finished product. I mean, look at Aaron judge. He's a fully functioning awesome baseball players first year in the judge is baseball poor. Absolutely. Now. I know he's looking at STAN like man, I'm a better player and I'm pulling up in the Nissan plant. He not struggle. He got on and off the field money, but still he should be. He should have way more money in his in his Bank account of what he has. He's met too much to this team. He's been too good. Well, once they hit arbitration with him. I bet you they'll let them go to one year arbitration. And then they'll try to make a deal because he'll be at that same age same. What is he twenty six now seven twenty eight twenty nine and it's funny because well, not funny at all. But if he if he does get injured again, it's not something fluke. Like last year, we got hit on the rest, but it's actually something like shoulder or something like that. He's probably not gonna like it considering he's the face of the team and in arbitration, they're definitely going to bring that up as a way to bring his salary now. One thing that piss him off. One thing to remember about it, though, we look at this, and we say, Brian, Cashman's brilliant. And he's getting all these deal Dunn's deals done. There's one thing that hasn't happened. Screw hasn't won yet. Scruple hasn't won yet. So you are betting that they will eventually get over the top. And you are betting somewhat that the Red Sox will come back down to earth a little bit that makes it doubly smart. You don't have to pay a World Series tax. But you better be right. You'd better be right. Well, but. See this is so funny because yesterday Cashman, I read that when he was talking about Aaron Hicks. I believe he described it as we placed a bet Cashman said I'm betting on him. He's betting on himself. It's like, no, you're vetting on him. But you could trade them at any moment because that contractor so tradable and he's not betting on himself. If he was betting on himself. He would have gone to free agency and said come and get me everybody. What does that I think I can hit thirty homers this year Dr in eighty five runs, but he knows that that's not going to get them any closer to seventy million. Then what if he decides a seven year deal with the Yankees? So I feel like there's this sorta spin kind of going on like, oh, we're all making these big risky bets on each other. Really? You don't think the eggs are going to win a World Series at some point with this with this group home, they better he's making him feel better. Every know, but this is binding. Oh. Once in seventeen years, but the wave on the baby bombers is has not crested yet. No, not even close. So you're gear getting guys in especially the older, quote, unquote, older guys you're getting them under contract early. Because look at for example, you look at the Boston Red Sox, right? Do you think Steve Pearce would have gotten as much as he did if they hadn't won the World Series MVP? My point is is that. There was only two to Brian's credit and everybody else's credit. There's only one bar that is set yet. They haven't reached that bar to longtime. They've been closed though. They're not gonna they're not gonna just be right?.
