"Other than empty promises that were broken. Oh, Congressman the deal that the previous administration struck involved, as you rightly said, Um Committing to remove all U. S forces from Afghanistan by May 1st of this year. Uh, and in addition As that deal was being negotiated, then put into effect pressing the Afghan government to release these 5000 prisoners, um, many of whom went back to the battlefield. Uh and, uh, At the same time in return getting from the Taliban. Few commitments one not to attack our forces, or allied and partner forces during the time of the agreement from the time it was reached until May 1st when we were supposed to pull out all of our forces as well as not to go at the major cities and take steps to ensure that Afghanistan would not be used By Al Qaeda or any other terrorist 11. More question. Um, your criticized for not getting our weapons out. Our weapons were given to the Afghan military. They were all over the country. Was there a way to disarm the Afghan government without being seen by the world is betraying the Afghan government, and was there a way without casualties to go all over Afghanistan? And grab the trucks and the the tanks. Etcetera, Uh, simply put no, of course. A lot of excess equipment was handed over to the Afghan security and defence forces Partners that we had worked with for 20 years supported, financed and equipped for 20 years to take on some of that equipment and, of course when those forces collapsed. Uh, in the space of about 11 days, some of that equipment wound up in the hands of the successor forces. The Taliban are folks worked very hard to disable or dismantle equipment that we still control before we left Afghanistan. Um, and what we see now is much of the equipment that was left behind, including in the hands of the Afghan forces that then Fell to the Taliban. Much of it based on what I understand from my colleagues at D O D is inoperable or soon will become inoperable because it has to be maintain. Um it's not of any great strategic value in terms of threatening us or threatening any of Afghanistan's neighbours. But it does give the Taliban as we've seen in pictures, all of us, uh, uniforms and guns and some other equipment that is now in their hands. Timmins Thomas expired and now recognized represented. Chris Smith and Jersey who's the ranking member of the subcommittee on Africa. Global Health and Global Human Rights for five minutes. Thank you very much, Mr Chairman. The secretary. You testified that you had encouraged Americans to leave the country but you know, simultaneous with that was statements being made, including my President Biden that Afghans. Military capability was 300,000 men strong and that they had the best training imaginable. So at best, I would say they were misled, and you don't mention withdraw conditions that were placed by President Trump on any exodus from Afghanistan. But I do have a couple of questions I'd like to ask. Did you concur in support President Biden's July 23rd phone call telling President Ghani to be on untruthful about the Taliban success, according to Reuters, which reviewed both the transcript and the audio president, Biden said, quote and there is a need whether it be true or not. There is a need to reject a different picture was that an ad lib by President Biden or was was that lie scripted into the phone call, and it was scripted by who? Secondly, have any Americans been arrested, beaten, abducted or killed by the Taliban or Isis K. Since we left, And do we have the camp passivity in the capability to know that Third, whether any gaps or weaknesses in the vetting process of Afghan evacuate, especially in light of the fact that reliable information on some, perhaps many who got parole wasn't available to conduct a meaningful background check. Are you concerned that Taliban may have embedded its members as evacuees? I visited our base at Fort Dix recently with some of the other members of Congress and our governor, and that's a number of questions. But I was very concerned about the the vetting or lack thereof and the fact that parolees about 70% strong at our base. At least we're going to go up to about 13,000. They can leave if they would like. They're free to leave. It's not clear whether or not they return, but they're free to leave. And finally one of the profoundly negative consequences. Outside of Afghanistan. Um, has been China and Taiwan. The state controlled Chinese Communist Party media, including CCP run Global Times, and I read it every day are saturating the Taiwanese with messages to give up. And surrender to Beijing because the United States will just as it did in Afghanistan abandoned them to. That's what the global time to say. But if you can start off with the first question, I would appreciate it and go through Thanks very much. Congressman. Let me see if I can address all those questions first, with regard to the phone call you cited. I'm obviously not gonna comment on leaked, purportedly leaked transcripts of phone calls. Here's what I can tell you what the president said. In that conversation with with then President Ghani is exactly what he was saying in public, and it's this that the issue is not the capacity at that point of the Afghan government and the Afghan security forces to hold the country and the whole Kabul. It was their will and whether they had a plan to do so, and we were concerned that they were not demonstrating that will Or that plan. He pressed President Ghani on the need to consolidate his forces. Best military advice from our military leaders to make sure that he could defend the places that needed defending and not overstretch those forces and he needed to bring people together. Uh, question. That's what he said. I only got a few minutes. Uh, that is true or not, I can. Was it a real I mean, it's a transcript untrue again. I'm not. I'm not commenting on any purportedly leaked transcripts. I'm telling you what based on my knowledge of the conversation, the president said, and what he said, is exactly what he said in public second with regard to American citizens remaining behind. The ones are were in contact with were we have 500 people on a task force that and teams dedicated to them to be in regular contact with him, and I have not heard from those people that concern raised. I can't say whether there are any American citizens or not in contact with or don't know of who, uh, may have been mistreated in some fashion in Afghanistan. Third with regard to the background checks, and this is very important and your and your right to focus on it. You know, as you know, before Afghans, uh, evacuated from Afghanistan reached the United States. They go to a transit country, and that's where the initial checks are done. We surged Customs and Border Patrol. We surged our intelligence and law enforcement capacity to do those initial checks. And then when they get to the United States, first at a military base, um Those checks are continued. Using all of law enforcement, intelligence security agencies to do that, so that we can make sure that we are not letting anyone into the country who could pose a threat or a risk. It's exactly that balance that's so important as well. In the HIV program, we all want to bring Afghans at risk in the United States. We also have an obligation that you rightly point out. To the security of our fellow citizens Finally on China and Taiwan, As I said earlier, whatever protestations they may be making a newspapers and their propaganda. There is nothing that China would have liked more and for us to have re upped the war in Afghanistan and to remain bogged down for another 5, 10 or 20 years, that would have been profoundly Against our strategic interests and profoundly in China..

Let me let me just say, because I was so excited to get you on to find out what was really going on on the ground. But thank you so much for your service. I sincerely mean that and that is With your continued service as well. So I appreciate what you do. We have about seven minutes. Uh, in this segment, so I just want to go through as much information. Is, um it's possible you talked about vetting the people that you put on airliners if you will, Chad. A team of 12 men. I believe you said, and and you guys vetted approximately 12,000 people. Uh, our The Biden administration, the State Department, the D O D. Couldn't seem to do that. Did any of them contact you is there? I mean, what was this Just done intentionally to bring a bunch of unvetted people to America? What? What's the excuse here? What's going on? Because I find this alarming that you could bet so many people. So quickly, but but we can as a country rdld, our State Department. Yeah. Yeah, just to be fair, like When we say that it, you know initial screening. It's still they still have to go through immigration process, but what we did I believe I'm sometimes super proud of it. I believe you know they did not do and and they should have. I mean, it's not nothing hard about landing a plane in a country that's falling apart and open your doors. Yeah. So this goes all way back to the you know the foundation of, uh, how the White House handled this. And they, you know, they took the neo operation, which is a non evacuation. A noncombatant evacuation operation. The White House took that operation away from the D O D in the military, Uh, which would be the equivalent of, you know, probably putting me in charge of like being a The chief information officer of installing software in a company like I would I would break something right? Uh, the State Department has no business. Running a new operation is the military's job. The military has always been a military job in the State Department doesn't know how to do it. And what the State Department did was essentially treated HK to the airport in Kabul as an embassy and utilize the military as a security guard force. Meaning they couldn't go out and rescue people the American citizens. They couldn't, uh,.

"They return Sunday night Monday morning. We have some news break over the overnight here. The Taliban Have now agreed to let 200 Americans and foreigners working in Afghanistan fly out of the Kabul airport charter planes This is, um Something that happened last night. And so this is, of course, very good news that the question that I would have Is one What led up to all of this? And number two. How many of us ever thought that we would see a story that showed that we are actually Negotiating with the Taliban to allow our people, Americans 200 of them. To let them go home. How many of us ever thought that we would see that it is incredible, isn't it? Now there is a congressman and congressman who I actually know very well. Mark Green. He was on with Laura Ingram last night, and he's talking about the vetting process, and he's talking about how you've got a lot of these Afghan folks. Who are coming into our country and they're coming in here. Number one unvetted and number two when they get here. They're actually disappearing. This is what he had to say. Laura, it's crazy, and it's not just for picket. I'm talking to sources that are at multiple locations. You know, the real challenge here is directions from state. You know, D O D is getting its directions on how to handle these situations. By the State Department and the State Department is failing to give them adequate information. They're letting them leave. They can catch an uber and actually leave the base. They don't know exactly how many are even there so they can't account for someone if they don't return. And they're telling the people Oh, if you go and you don't come back well, that will endure visa processing. But if they want free, they're gone. There's nobody keeping them from leaving. And then you get the shocking Alice allegations of harassment and sexual assault, and it's just it's horrific. Yes, it is horrific. And so when he's on with Laura Ingraham and again that is Congressman Mark Greene. He is describing frankly, our worst nightmare, which is a lot of guys coming over here and simply disappearing and dissolving into the greatness. That is America. And so the more that you hear the congressman speak, the more you realize you know what? Sadly, I've heard this before, And we have We've been hearing this. Over the last several weeks. As a matter of fact, from several different lawmakers, Congressman Mark Green is just the one that is speaking out right now, and the question was then asked about the vetting process. Here's what he had to say. Yes, We don't have biometrics on a good portion of these people, and we can't really get information from state because they won't provide names. They won't provide any information on the people. The numbers that they have They won't even tell us how many American citizens they evacuated. We tried to get that number, you know, requested through the National Defense Authorization Act the other day, and I couldn't get that passed. It's just crazy. This state Department is a complete failure. He's absolutely right and we says he couldn't get the information. Why is it That the State Department actually refuses. To tell us how many people we have in our country as far as Afghan refugees. Why is it they won't tell us that they won't give us pertinent information like names. They won't even do the appropriate vetting. Wait till you hear the audio piece that I have coming up for you. Next. It is jaw dropping from DHS, DHS secretary. Of a hydro Mayorkas that is next on red eye radio as we approach fall, and that summertime pattern continues to evolve,.

"We want you to join us at 51283605 90. Now here are tied and done. Sure seems like the U. S government has already recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan. It sure seems that way. Is that based on how many dollars we've been given them behind the scenes? Who knows? Right? Uh, I saw a quote from Donald Trump. It says we rebuilt the U. S military and they gave it to the Taliban. I mean, the United States the White House may not officially have recognized the Taliban is the legitimate government of Afghanistan. But they show are cooperating with them. As if they are the legitimate government of Afghanistan is something we've got to watch very closely, Todd, I think, but in the meantime, you're right. The Taliban has established the government. They have announced some of the leadership and, of course, heading up the security. Is the Haqqani network. Oh, yeah. And and a guy, right? That has a $5 million price tag on him from the FBI. Alright, most wanted list, right? He was led out by Obama back in. Oh, eight. I think it is one of those for the Bergdahl trade is Yeah. That was part of the Bergdahl trade. We had him locked up in Guantanamo Bay would let them out and we had him locked up in there for about eight years. I think it was But now he's he's kind of in charge of a lot of things over there. Now. The Haqqani network, the offspring of the anti Soviet CIA back to Mujahideen. Back in the day, Todd, let's Don't forget about that. Right? True. That's true now. Yeah, there is a new government in place in Afghanistan. Also some new documents revealing the State Department's role in getting Americans out of Afghanistan. We get a full report this morning from newsman Griff Jenkins. Good morning, and we finally got a Taliban interim government getting rolled out, and it may come as no surprise to you guys. You won't find a single woman in it. It's comprised mostly veterans from their 20 year battle against the U. S. Including new Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, a terrorist on the FBI's most wanted list with a $5 million bounty on his head, plus four of the five Gitmo prisoners that President Obama released in exchange for Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl taking senior posts in this new government now, the State Department released a statement acknowledging The composition of this new government, saying, quote we note the announced list of names consists exclusively of individuals who are members of the Taliban or their close associates and no women. We are also concerned by the affiliations and track records of some of the individuals. We will judge the Taliban by its actions, not its words this as we're learning as you mentioned Brian a leaked email obtained exclusively by Fox News showing the State Department refusing to allow rescue flights to land At a D O D base riding to retire. Marine Eric Montalvo, who chartered some of the flights, state said this no charters are allowed to land at a D. O D base, and most of not all countries in the Middle Eastern region, with the exception of perhaps Saudi Arabia will allow charters to land, adding, You need to find another destination country and it can't be The US either. Now the email underscores the extent to which we have seen these private evacuation efforts running into bureaucratic roadblocks. The State Department, for their part says that they don't officially approved these charter flights because of security risk allowing them onto military bases without the full knowledge of all the passengers. This newsman Griff Jenkins reporting. Well, that's good to know Todd, the U. S government and the Taliban. We have something in common. We got a bunch of Obama era re tress true. Fantastic. Yeah, Yeah, we we We don't know exactly how many refugees have gotten out of Afghanistan. We don't have a good grip of that number 200,000. Maybe 300,000. Maybe 500,000. It's well, I guess it well, we're still trying to get people out. Who knows? Right? And now the vetting process and I'm very skeptical of this whole thing, right? I'm very skeptical as well. I mean, I have no problem helping people that need help. But, uh, filtered into the the group of Afghanistan. Refugees could be a handful of those that want to do harm. I know someone very well. Who's done a lot of work for the U. S government and trying to help process people with asylum claims in Pakistan all over the world from this part of the country. No, he told me these people have virtually no paperwork. There's so little infrastructure. There's no birth records. You know that kind of no government to create paperwork. Exactly Right. So So that's what we got to work. And with no paperwork. You don't know who you're dealing with. It would seem It was 79 and you can jump in at 51283605 90. We got a couple of text messages from nurses. We're talking about the nursing shortage. That's the real problem in our local hospitals, Not a shortage of beds. Yeah, but a nursing shortage Northern people. Uh, and one text said. My girlfriend works at at ascension in Kyle, and they're going to require the shot by the 27th of this month or else they're going to be terminated. So I would think that there's going to be an even greater nursing shortage at the end of this month. It sure seems like it. And if you just judging by the text that we get in the vaccine is a problem either. Not enough people getting it or The mandates where the health care workers are going to have to get it. That's that's kind of where we're at. As far as the sentiments from a lot of our textures here. I just think it's strange. They're actually considering firing the nurses. I think that's odd. Firing the nurses because they won't get a vaccination. To treat people who have been vaccinated. It just seems like this is if they're concerned about the travel, nursing issue being a shortage, it sure seems like they're pushing him out the door to go Do just that. Okay, leave and make a whole lot more money. Yeah, that's true. All right, Jump in at 51283605 90. I just during a pandemic. You got anybody that's a nurse that's uh, willing to treat patients. Seems like you'd want that person to be there to take care of people, right? You would think so. I'm sorry. No, we can't have you here because we can't have you taken care of people. You're not vaccinated, but that person I'm supposed to take care of their vaccinated. Why can't I take care of him Not vaccinated. Do you think if worse comes to worse, they say, Okay, look, the sign a release for the hospital says. If you get sick, it's not our fault. Will you sign that and then go take care of the think all of those issues. Everybody that is a nurse understands that they possibly could catch some sort of sickness on the job. That's that's kinda think that's the job. Right? You would think it is 7 11 here at K. LBJ, Thailand don show Listen, my friends. We're going to talk to the fire chief from Naperville coming up in just a few minutes. I'd say about 15 minutes or so here on Chicago's afternoon news, Okay on the phone line now. His voice tankers leave from the Chicago Botanic Garden to talk trees in the wake of the storm, and in the midst of the drought voice Welcome. Thank you. Good to be here, so I know you know, we want to talk drought situation, But given the storms last night, it occurs to me that you might have some advice for people who've got damaged limbs. For example, I've got a Limb on a just call it a weed tree boys. I don't even know but it's over my deck. It's about 30 ft, and it's cracked at the stump are at the trunk. It's not quite separated, but I could pull it down if I wanted to. I'm worried about. I've got a cardinal's nest with some baby cardinals under it, but I could just pull it off of its connection there. Is that a wise thing to do or is there a proper way to separate the severed limbs? Yeah, The situation you're describing is is in the industry referred to as a widow maker, so I wouldn't advise you or any of the audience, Uh, reach up and just pull it off. Those will limbs, especially when they're leapt out like this way quite a bit, And you can't control the direction where they're going to come down. Um, so the best advice is to to hire an expert to get up on a ladder and take it down safely correctly. And they can make the cuts that will ensure that the tree heels up correctly, so it does need to be cut. It's better if it's cut in one way or another. Correct. Yeah. Yeah, And I understand the widowmaker thing because I have run from limbs. I've been pulling down before in my past. Yeah. Yes, I've, uh yeah, I've done it. Yeah, you're supposed to know better. Um and I and I know better. Yes. So I have some pine trees in my back again. Called them. I think in a note to you, an Austrian pine. I looked up What all the stream pines look like. That's not it either, But they're just really tall. Maybe 75 ft. The pine boughs start maybe a third or quarter the way up. It doesn't mean they're tall. They're big trees. Um, they've been. They haven't been overly green in the past couple of years. You know, some of the needles turned green. Uh, but not as much as they used to. I guess my question about that, and I think others would have a similar question is When a tree is that big? How do you or is there sense in watering it? Or, Yeah, well, tree that big as somebody's put a lot of investment into getting it up to that size, So my gut feeling is something that large is always going to add to your landscape. Sure your your home value. Um And, um you know, a good soaking goes a long way towards helping things green up. So by a good soaking, I'm talking. You put on an average about an inch of water. A week to every 10 days during the drought period, and I prefer to use a soaker hose instead of something that sprays up in the air like this. Where included those sorts of things? Uh, during the are dry heat that we were experiencing the last couple of weeks. You'll lose about 60 to 70% of the water that you put out evaporates before they hit the ground. So even if you have a tree that 65 ft, you can and you just water the ground around it. You're doing good for the tree. Oh, absolutely blew. It Did not know that. I thought the roots were so deep that it wouldn't have helped much. Okay. We've got a few calls to boys. Do you mind taking some calls here? Oh, not at all. Here we go. We'll start with Scott in Woodstock. Of all things. That's an appropriate name. Scott. I just cut off voice. Can we reconnect with voice? About my problem there, Scott my fault. What's your question for boys once we get him back? My question was, we planted a whole bunch of new trees in the subdivision and of all the trees. One of them is starting to turn Brown nine. I feel that the drought probably had a lot to do with it, but Can we try to save it? Or what? How long has it been planted? How long ago? Did you plant it? We planted the last fall. Okay, So let's try this again. Can you lock Scott for me and will bring? Uh, talk a little shop on the our voices back connected here so Let's try again. We're going to do this. We're good Iranian. Okay, boys. Welcome back. Sorry about that. So not a problem. Scott from Woodstock planted some trees A couple of years ago. One of them is turning Brown. He thinks it's the drought. Scott. How did I do? Uh, pretty good. Except for not a couple years last last year. I'm sorry. Um, So what do you think? Oh, definitely. So there's two things going on when there's a drought, but we have a contributing factor, which that was really hard cold freeze that we got to February last winter. Um and that and a lot of cases with treason and shrubs. We noticed that.

Now, the question I need to ask you is obviously our state Department is working on this with this ransom. Do we have any idea right now where this came from? I'm not the particulars of this case, but I think you nailed it. Jim. That's clearly what I've been reading. I will just save Brody that in my past life I worked in government. I worked at D O D. And around a lot of folks that did this kind of work. And I can tell you a to Pentagon. When something like this was to happen from a defense point of view, they're not going to say much publicly, they know probably full. Well, who's behind this? They're probably not going to hear that right now. When the media Um, they're they're probably very busy putting together the parts and pieces that's going to take the nail These guys and I really hope they do. So I have a strong faith that we have. How does the gasoline get from the pipeline to the gas station? Why? That would be trucks, I believe, would it not? Wood, and our tank industry is just outstanding and it's it's a It's a particular breed that do this kind of work. It's a little bit different credentialing because of the of the Technical matter that that goes into being ah, tank truck driver you are handling in many instances. Hazardous materials s O from petrol fuel the diesel fuel, but You're also hauling ah, lot of different chemicals as well that go into the things that become products. So you know, these drivers are particularly well trained. You have to be 26. To drive in this sector in most cases, so the training is a little bit more extensive than what you would find for other drivers on the pay is a little bit better, too. And After that, and we're obviously hopeful that you know, you look at all sectors. They're all you know, appealing in different ways. But if you want to be a tank car driver does pay more. And most of those drivers are our regional local.
