Asteroid samples tucked into capsule for return to Earth

"This was a mission way we yet we sent the our SARS rex probe to the asteroid Banu, which it sorta hung around. Looking for a good long while up until last week when I decided I, Kai we're GonNa land on this thing and take a sample while it was a success. until it may be wasn't where we we've Houston, we have a problem. Yeah. Hopefully, not long term problem hopefully solvable but Yeah I think I think the bottom line is they were too successful would that be way of describing it? So the just to recap the the device that they use, it's so the spacecraft itself approaches the surface of of asteroid. Benadryl did this last week in fats. With a kind of almost like a miniature BECO-. Stretched out, which contains a device on the end, which is called Tag Sam. Tag. Sam Is an acronym for touch and go sample acquisition mechanism scrape. On. Mind that one. That one at all go to the feeling of just touching the surface to it hasn't it tax tag lock the game. Exactly. So I'm so this is sort of like a pan. which collects the the sample. Then there apparently is. as a Myla flap, which is meant to seal shocked wants the sample has been collected. Box they were so successful with the tags on the some of the some of the bigger bits of soil and doug that didn't go through the flat properly have wedged it open. Now. They've been the they've collected more than they expect it to. And Dot. Essentially. Maine's that. I feel that they have the possibility of collecting. If they didn't feel that got enough they have the possibility of collecting another sample in January I think the eleventh of January but that I think has now been ditched because they feel they've got enough. In fact has as the NASA bulletin says because the first sample collection event was so successful Nasa Science Mission Directorate has given the mission team the go-ahead to expedite sample storage. In originally scheduled for the second of November. In the space craft sample return capsule to minimise for the sample loss. So this is a separate capsule, the Ash L. see the sample return capsule. which they've got a stow, the sampling and. One there's a quote from Dante Lauretta who's the principal investigator for Cyrus? Rex University of Arizona, the abundance of material we collected from new made it possible to expedite our decision to stow the team is now working around the clock to accelerate the storage line. So we can protect as much of this material as possible for return to Earth now. This is where it gets tricky because what was expected to happen with the storage procedure was that? Cyrus. Rex. would run autonomously through a sequence of events. and. So what they're doing now. A saying, no, we don't want that to happen. We want this to be done. So carefully, carefully enough that we don't lose soil face so they gotta do it all by hand in other words, send a command watch. What happens. And then send the next command watch. What happens the problem is you've got thirty seven minute delay between sending the command and knowing what he's done because they signal travel time at the moment between us and the spacecraft is eighteen point four, five minutes. So each step means that you've got a way for thirty seven minutes while you take the step and then wait to see what happened. In in the in the consequences, it's GonNa be very, very painful I. Think Andrew. This is probably happening as we speak 'cause shadow for the twenty seventh of October. USTA. I would we are the following day? So I, think it's happening now so By the time this this goes to add the outcome might note already oh drought. We've lost it all up. Sure it will be why. Hope not but yeah, it's In terms of glitches when it comes to space missions, this is not the worst. It's ever happened on a visit to another world or another object but. Know, there's been the famous cases of lind's caps getting stuck on by hate all sorts of weird and wonderful things but. it sounds like that go to solution and when Libby Watch. Documentaries or movies about problems in space it's always about working the problem and they obviously have got an idea on how to deal with this. The just GonNa have to be very careful with the execution. Thus correct exactly which is why the doing it one step at the.

Autonomous Spacecraft are the Next Step for NASA

"Autonomists function for spacecraft more than two hundred, million miles from Earth is absolutely critical at that distance signals from Earth take approximately eighteen point five minutes to travel from mission control to the craft. The time lag prevents live commanding for any maneuver. So besides the autonomous sample collect sequence, oh, cyrus rex also tested a new autonomous navigation system designed to protect the spacecraft during its descent to the Rock Strewn surface of asteroid Banou. The system. real-time images taken as the spacecraft leaves orbit to images in an onboard catalog and hazard map. If it detects that the spacecraft is headed toward a hazardous sewn, the natural feature tracking navigation system can autonomously wave off the spacecraft's approach self directing navigation that identifies hazards could make descent and landing safer even when a spacecraft is out of touch with the team back home

"From an asteroid 200 million miles away by a NASA probe is floating away particle by particle. NASA says Theo Cyrus Rex spacecraft descended to the surface of the asteroid venue this week. Reached out and took a sample of the rock. However, the craft took more of the asteroid than expected. And now the sample containers jammed open. With the sample. Slowly escaping. NASA engineers are rushing to get the canister back on the return capsule as quickly as possible for the long journey back to Earth. Scientists hoped that their sample will shed some light on how the planets in our solar system were formed. And even how life began on Earth. The Japanese space agency is also awaiting the arrival of the sample It took from a different asteroid that's expected to return in December. NASA spacecraft sent asteroid rubble flying in sample grab

"A certain. About Nasr's latest mission. Remember the old barnstorming air shows you might see someone hanging on a rope ladder dangling from a biplane. Then he swoops down past the audience and grabs a handkerchief. On Tuesday night NASA essentially performed the Hanky grab on the far side of our solar system two hundred million miles away. For the first time, NASA sent a spacecraft to snatch soil samples from an asteroid moving at sixty three thousand miles per hour. Asteroids are geological time capsules floating in space. Or as Nastase tone acerbic can put it. The rebel scoop from Benue could be a kind of cosmic Rosetta stone. The tells the history of our earth and solar system during the last billions of years. At the very least this mission is a triumph of imagination and technological prowess and Patients. The Oh Cyrus. REX, spacecraft left Earth four years ago in orbit, the asteroid Ben who for two years collecting photos and data yesterday the craft touchdown for a few seconds and snatched up as much as four point, four pounds, primordial rocks, and dust in about a week. NASA should know the spacecraft collected enough rubble or if it needs to make another attempt, then the spacecraft will back to Earth with its Rosetta rocks. That journey will take about two more years. But. Some things like a deeper understanding of the origins. Our solar system. Are Worth waiting for.

"Down on an asteroid floating some 200 miles away from Earth. NPR's now Greenfield voice reports. The probe also collected a sample of rock and dust. This was NASA's first effort to grab a sample, often asteroid, a space object that's considered to be a kind of pristine relic from the early days of the solar system. As the research team watched Theo Cyrus Rex spacecraft moved towards the rocky surface. Its on on board board systems systems looked looked for for hazardous hazardous obstacles obstacles and and decided decided it it was was safer safer going going in in down after just briefly touching the surface and hopefully grabbing a good sample the spacecraft safely backed away. As more information comes back from the spacecraft in the coming days, researchers will learn how much of the asteroid it nabbed and whether they should have another go at it before the spacecraft returns to Earth. "Big questions about small worlds. Presented by science at Manson. Scientists who studied the solar system tend to ask big questions. How was our solar system formed where did the building blocks of life come from what hazards from above threaten life on our planet to find answers? They're looking more and more at small worlds, what are small worlds asteroids for sure comets to also the many small satellites or moons that orbit large planets as well as the icy world at the distance of Pluto and beyond some have combined only to be broken apart later by collisions and tidal forces others have gone largely untouched since the dawn of the solar system, some carry water and organic compounds others are almost entirely composed of metal and all hold keys to questions about our solar system and the origin of life on earth. Doctor Adriana oh compo program executive for Nasr's new horizons. Mission says water is key to life as we know it learning where water is found in our solar system provides pieces to the puzzle of understanding the origins of life new horizons. Recently surprised us by discovering a large abundance of water ice at Pluto. More surprises are in store as new horizons transmits the data from its January first twenty nineteen fly by of the Kuyper belt object, twenty fourteen m you sixty nine back to earth small world can be found in a wide range of locations across the solar system from the inner Ciller system all the way out to the Kuyper belt when they are studied together these remnants of the early solar system can help tell the story of solar system formation. Dawn recently completed a mission to the main asteroid belt visiting the doors planet series and the belt's largest asteroid Vesta. Cyrus? Rex has arrived at Benue a near earth asteroid about sixteen hundred fifty feet or five hundred meters across and will return to earth in twenty twenty three with a sample. So scientists can begin to understand been whose origin and history. The Lucy mission will be traveling to six Trojan asteroids trapped in the orbit of Jupiter. These objects are the only remaining unexplored population of small worlds in the solar system. The psyche mission will be visiting a metal object in the main asteroid belt that could be the remnant core of a proto planet similar in size to Vesta. While Villa's missions traveled to their individual targets. Neil wise. A re purpose space telescope in lieu earth orbit has made infrared measurements of hundreds of near earth objects, and tens of thousands of other small worlds in the solar system. These diverse worlds offer insights into how our solar system formed and evolved. Doctor Tom statler planetary science program. Scientists at NASA headquarters notes, this is not your grandparents solar system and things are not as orderly as we once believed the data we've gleaned from these objects. So far have changed the way we think about the origin of the planets, for example, the small world in the Khyber built are leading us to think that you're in and Neptune formed much closer to the sun than where they reside. Now, then gradually moved to their current orbits the biggest misperception about small worlds their distance to each. Other statler explains in the movies. They always show an asteroid belt with millions of rocks almost touching each other. Whereas in reality there is much more empty space. You have to travel hundreds of thousands of miles to get from one asteroid to another yet. Scientists are also looking closer to home determining the orbits and physical characteristics of objects that might impact earth is critical to understanding the consequences of any such impact and responding to an actual impact threat. If one is ever discovered NASA knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with earth. But to prepare for that scenario NASA is developing the double asteroid redirection tests or dark mission as the first demonstration of the Connecticut impact technique that could be used to change the motion of a hazardous asteroid away from earth. They launched again remarkably quickly, they they, you know, they they're return to flight with the soya's was was quick. And kinda neat. I thought that was pretty awesome virgin galactic had a huge year. They launched an I think those guys are getting ready to take passengers. And that that that would be prediction that I'll mention in in the next show. We have all right. What what those guys elect you're on its way making predictions. Come true. That's right. We have of course, a Cyrus Rex reached its asteroid, and they're gonna going to bring some they're going to bring a sample home. Yep. Hand, that's you know, that that's that's cool. They're already a returning data. It appears that this particular asteroid at some point in the in the distant past was exposed to water things. And that's that's pretty interesting. Maybe the maybe it originates from a planet that had water. And then a Japanese probe is doing much the same. It's interceptor. It's asteroid, and it's got Rovers it's deploying Rovers to the surface of its asteroid and the Rovers are kind of neat because they shift their weight in order to hop across the asteroid. It's got this low gravity that just a shipping. A little white inside of inside of itself. It makes it hot walk at dumping and they're getting some Neak data back. So that's that. Hi, Busa landing on its asteroid was one of the coolest things ever that would Hct awesome September October somewhere in there that is just one of the coolest things ever. And you know, that was a follow up. It was the high Busa one was the first time anything had ever been retrieved from an asteroid, and that was just a little bit of dust that they got now we've got as you as you mentioned. We've gotta Cyrus Rex. Now, we've got high abusive to were landing on astronauts were landing Rovers on asteroids. And it's all happening really fast. Isn't it the progress toward together? Yeah. Neat stuff leaks up. Then we got a Kepler's replacement see Keppler retired this year. And so every day astronaut he mentioned some the passing of saw some great people including Stephen hawking. And you also mentioned the passing of some important programs like tipplers, well turns out we got a replacement in. It's the tests observatory test stands for transitioning Exo planet surveys satellite. It's an exponential improvement Kepler because it's surveys the entire sky. By a large sections, the Scott simultaneously. And as it rotates ill end up surveying, you know, in every direction and statistically speaking, they expect this thing, and it and it service like to discover twenty thousand exit. It's already up there. It's a it's discovered a super earth already discovered the comet that we didn't know about and so the amount of data that thing is going to return, and it's in service life is is expected to be it's it's a it's a big deal. You know, it's wild. I I know that the next show is really the prediction show. But this isn't a twenty nineteen prediction. This is just a test prediction, I I'm coming. This is going to explode the number of anomalies that suggest we may have found intelligent life in the universe. Okay. And I don't know whether I'll be, but but just in the same way that we've found planets that look like what was it the swarm or the the the war? We're not there. Yeah. We're going to be a lot more of that kind of stuff for rebound. The funds some weird stuff when we look in every direction that simultaneously. "Our buddy, oh Cyrus Rex is making more passes at Begnaud, although it's not gonna land and try to do it sample grab until twenty twenty. I think. Marzan site has a bunch of instruments that hasn't deployed yet to start monitoring the interior of the planet Mars. So that's awesome. And then there are two possible. Other lunar Landers beyond Chung, which are one from India and one from Israel is actually a as Rayleigh lunar Lander project that was leftover from when they were doing the lunar x prize that nobody won the prize, and that they're still hostility that might actually land to a moon landing this year. So we might have this might also be the year beyond commercial crew the year of. Moon stuff like a lot of moon stuff, which is which is exciting. It's not, you know, again, it's a little disappointing that we don't have a big launch of some mission to the outer solar system or something like that. But but we do have a bunch. There's still a bunch of going on in terms of planetary science. Yeah. James Webb telescope, not in your. It's still out there. Yeah. Out there. It's best not talking about things like dates or budget at the Zelano. The passage the passage of time from one year to another really does call into all of these things that are that are like, well, I guess twenty wasn't the year of commercial crew, maybe twenty nine. And all this doesn't rule out like the stuff that's going on. So Juno is still at Jupiter. We have the Parker right solar pro solar probe there..

"There's some other things going on. It seemed to be you know, I'd say pretty secret is stick with what's going on with the announcements in the reflections. We have with NASA. And something comparisons. We have with searching for extraterrestrial life doesn't necessarily Santa Claus. But just the code Santa. Like when we have the discovery be like discovering, again, something that we've known since we've been kids. Richard Hoagland appeared on ground zero November thirtieth. He mentioned some interesting coincidences with regard to the oh Cyrus Rex mission in a strange interstellar. Adriano more now Cyrus Rex. Wants to September two thousand sixteen headed for an asteroid called Banou. Ride to that asteroid on December third twenty eighteen remember HOGAN was predicting some things about this on November thirtieth. It was the night that President George Herbert Walker Bush died, and so the show was cut off in some in some areas. So what kind of review it and the whole show, by the way, it's on soundcloud? But Hoagland said did he believe that NASA Cynthia Cyrus Rex to the asteroid bay new because they suspected that the so-called asteroid was really a space station that the probe would be able to land on the rock and find indication's of life. And then would keep the information under wraps. Well, he also stated that this project is another attempt by NASA. Space for any signs of extraterrestrial intelligence, and he claimed that after our brush with the Moore more. Scientists have secretly felt there are space artifacts that are drifting in space that proved the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. Well, on December tenth one week after landing the Cyrus wrecks on Banou NASA announced that the craft has already made significant discovery. It's been found that there are hydrated minerals on bay news surface that is evidence for previous ancient water. What are the building blocks for life and just to clarify? This discovery doesn't mean they knew has the could water either inside or run surface right now. Basically it shows that they news parent body. Probably a much larger asteroid or perhaps a planet or a moon. The venue broke off of had water on it. So thinking about that for a moment if you have a barren rock, okay? That's a bay new. It's an answer. It's supposed to be hitting us sometime in the next four five years. They're they're basically discovering now that it had water on hurricane from a surface of something that had water on it. I mean is it interesting turn of events. Right. Because you know, the fact that they named. They named this this asteroid, Ben new, which of course, is in ancient Egyptian deity linked with the sun Chretien rebirth. Incidentally, Banou was spotted on September eleventh nineteen ninety nine just before the announcement about the water. The bay new scientists were publishing papers on the possibility. Now get this that many objects like a more and more. Things about the size of a memorial are out in space right now. I didn't Hoaglund say that was going to happen in Oakland say that what would happen is Nasser would find there are plenty of other artifacts like in space, and that they knew they would find that. It's the space station. Now, they didn't admit that. It was a space station. But the fact they found hydrated minerals on a barren asteroid is pretty interesting, and the fact that a new paper, this is a new paper onto more more. Again. It seems like this is the this is the this is the artifacts from space that doesn't go away. And I'm glad because I remember telling you about it. A while ago. And I'm very glad we're able to break. The story gets the story continues. You have more legs on it and more interesting things happening with regard to the declaration of extraterrestrial presence in space. Now. Researchers from Harvard University undergraduate Amir Sarraj and professor Abraham Leib chair of the Harvard astronomy department had made a paper available now it's on pre publication archive at our XIV while it's reviewed for publication, the monthly notices the Royal astronomical society. They used computer models of asteroid like object to see how they would be captured by the gravity in the Jupiter sun system, meaning that we watched the activities of more and more in the Jovian system. Okay. That's the Jovian planet system from Jupiter Saturn and beyond it, accelerated Abbas system. But now they're saying is we look at the same Jupiter sun system and how these objects operate. They're not saying that they've got models that are identifying at least four objects that they're identifying right now in our solar system, they think of originated elsewhere. Not here. Not here in this solar system it somewhere else. Now, if you're keeping notes on on what these objects are in their names. It's here are the names of the objects tracking right now. And these are objects that are either greater incisors smaller than a more more. Meaning that you know, we got a fleet coming. Okay. So here we go twenty six twenty seventeen SP one three. Twenty twenty eleven SP two five in two thousand seventeen are too. So they were identified by looking at factors like their accent trysofi inclination orbital period perihelion distance appealing distance. So in total. There could be around three hundred fifty interstellar objects in our solar system, which sixty six would be detectable by the L S St. telescopes but the ones that they're tracking. Now, the four that they're tracking our either bigger or slightly less than the size of a more more. So here's the question. What are they researching? Well, again, we go back to the Santa Claus code. They're researching the mythological or the possibility the legendary alien extraterrestrial aircraft same what the astronauts were calling out back in the sixties. Last summer, we reported that research papers were published in June about what is known as the next is for extra planet system. Science which would be moving forward with the search for life on distant planets and delay. Laid the groundwork for moving related scientists forward in other words, no longer. I mean, they haven't admitted to alien life. They haven't admitted to it. But like Santa Claus, wink, wink, they do want to move forward with the investigation. And so next to scientists. They took an inventory of the most promising signs of life out in space, and they call them bio signatures so water on bay new is one step. Okay. Water from bay new or from a planet. It could have been attached to or even a moon. It could have been attached to changes everything we may be thinking about in the universe including how we look at the moon. So they've considered how to interpret the presence of bio signatures in space. And how we should be able to detect them from outside world soon, a primary concern is ensuring that the scientists strong enough to distinguish a living world from a barren planet masquerading as one so while we may have the elements of life on one planet, there may not be life on that planet. However, we could move. To those planets occupy them. There are many scientists. However that Cialis is an effort that will lead to know answers. Basically, of course chasing Santa Clause. If you will. But I feel that if the shoe fits then perhaps there there's some scientific method or we could even extend our naive logic. And we can use it to pump up the proof of his metaphor Santa. And perhaps, you know, everything that we've heard about every enchanted being every angel. Every demon every whatever could be alien. I mean, everything may have an alien Ben to it. And when you're thinking of faster than light travel or quantum mechanics or anything that Santa does. I mean, heck it sounds like some alien visitation anyway. So, you know, I guess Jim level was kind of right, right? It. It's it's it's it's very interesting. Let's go to add in the Massachusetts. I Adam young ground zero. Are you doing brother doing well? So quite I gotta ask before. I started my questions are you religious at all. And if so what is your religion, none of your business? And yes unreligious? Right. I don't think it's anybody's business. What anybody's religion is quite frankly, I don't participate in any denomination. So no, it's none of your business. What I do. Right. What do you? How do you explain to people that believe in Jesus whether or not it was real or whether or not the aliens created a switch one? Do we believe I believe that God created us? That God is an extraterrestrial being which he is. And that God had other beings were creatures or creations that he has on other planets in. My father's house are many mansions. It's obvious. Jesus said I'm not of world, and he wasn't. Right. That doesn't make them aliens. It makes them beings or humans or what have you that? Okay. He hung up. Okay. Sorry. I I was getting explain it to you. But you hung up that make you mad. I mean, you know, look, you can you can follow the berry give version of Jesus or the berry version of God it that's what you wish to do. Okay. That's fine. But we go beyond the bearded. Hallmark card version of Jesus the bearded hallmark card version of God. And we have to think to ourselves that. While Jesus came in the flashy was God in the flesh. How to contemplate that very idea is is remarkable. It's indistinguishable from magic is indistinguishable from the powers that we have no idea. We have no idea how they can be manifest because they are out of the mind of.

He mentioned some interesting coincidences with regard to the oh Cyrus Rex mission in a strange interstellar object or more now Cyrus Rex. Launched in September two thousand sixteen they headed for Nasrin called Banou. Strikes ride to that asteroid on December third twenty eighteen ever. Remember HOGAN was predicting some things about this on November thirtieth and it was the night that President George Herbert Walker Bush died, and so the show was cut off in some in some areas. So what kind of review it and the whole show, by the way, it's on club. But Hoagland said that he believed that NASA Cynthia Cyrus Rex to the asteroid bay new because they suspected that the so-called asteroid was released space station that the probe would be able to land on the rock and find indications of life. And then would keep the information under wraps. Well, he also stated that this project is another attempt by NASA. Space for any signs of extraterrestrial intelligence, and he claimed that after our brush with the more and more. Scientists have secretly felt there are space artifacts that are drifting in space that proved the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. Well on December tenth one week after landing the Cyrus wrecks on new NASA announced that the craft has already made significant discovery. It's been found that there are hydrated minerals on Banou surface. That is evidence for previous ancient water. What are the building blocks for life and just to clarify? This discovery doesn't mean they knew has the could water either inside or on its surface right now. Basically it shows that they news parent body. Probably a much larger asteroid or perhaps a planet or a moon. The new broke up of had water on it. So thinking about that for a moment if you have a barren rock, okay? That's a bay new. It's an asteroid is supposed to be hitting us sometime in the next four or five years. They're basically discovering now that it had water on hurricane from a surface of something that had water on it. I mean is it interesting turn of events. Right. Because you know, the fact that they named. They named this this asteroid Banou, which of course, is in ancient Egyptian deity linked with the sun Chretien rebirth. Incidentally, Banou was spotted on September eleventh nineteen ninety nine just before the announcement about the water. They knew scientists were publishing papers on the possibility. Now get this that many objects like a more and more. Things about the size of a memorial out in space right now. I didn't say that was going to happen. In Hogan's say that what would happen is Nasser would find there are plenty of other artifacts like memorial in space, and that when they land on they knew they would find that. It's a space station. Now, they didn't admit there was a space station. But the fact they found hydrated minerals on a barren asteroid is pretty interesting, and the fact that a new paper is a new paper onto more. Again. It seems like this is this is the this is the artifacts from space that doesn't go away. And I am glad because I remember telling you about it a while ago. And I'm very glad we're able to break. The story gets the story continues. You have more legs on it and more interesting things happening with regard to the declaration of extraterrestrial presence in space. Now. Researchers from Harvard University undergraduate Amir Siraj in professor Abraham Leib chair of the Harvard astronomy department had made a paper available now it's on pre publication archive at our XIV while it's reviewed for publication in the monthly notices the Royal astronomical society. They used computer models of asteroid like objects to see how they would be captured by the gravity in the Jupiter sun system, meaning that we watched the activities of more and more in the Jovian system. Okay. That's the Jovian planet system from Jupiter Saturn and beyond it, accelerated Abbott system. But now they're saying is we look at the same Jupiter sun system and how these objects operate. They're not saying that they've got models that are identifying at least four objects and they're identifying right now in our solar system. Do they think of originated elsewhere? Not here. Not here in this solar system it somewhere else. Now, if you're keeping. Notes on on what these objects are their names. It's here are the names of the objects. They're tracking right now. And these are objects that are either greater incisors smaller than a more. Meaning that we got a fleet coming. Okay. So here we go twenty six twenty seventeen SP one three. Twenty eleven SP two five in two thousand seventeen are are too. So you were identified by looking at factors like their accent trysofi inclination orbital period perihelion distance appealing distance. So in total. There could be around three hundred fifty interstellar objects in our solar system, which sixty six would be detectable by the L S T telescopes. But the ones that they're tracking. Now the four they're tracking. Now are either bigger or slightly less than the size of a more and more? So here's the question. What are they researching? Well, again, we go back to the Santa Claus code. They're researching the mythological or the possibility the legendary alien extraterrestrial aircraft same that what the astronauts were calling out back in the sixties. Last summer. We reported research papers were published in June about what is known as the nexus for extra planet system. Science which would be moving forward with the search for life on distant planets. Delay the groundwork for moving related scientists forward in other words, no longer. I mean, they have it in knitted to alien life. They haven't admitted to it. But like Santa Claus, wink, wink, they do want to move forward with the investigation. And so next is scientists they took an inventory of the most promising signs of life out in space, and they call them bio signatures so water on bay new is one step. Okay. Water from new or from a planet. It could have been attached to or even a moon. It could've been attached to changes everything we may be thinking about in the universe including how we look at the moon. So they've considered how to interpret the presence of bio signatures in space, and how we should be able to detect them from outside world soon. A primary concern is ensuring the scientists strong enough to distinguish a living world from a barren planet masquerading as one so while we may have the elements of life on one planet, there may not be life on that planet. However, we could move. To those planets occupy them. There are many scientists. However that see all the effort that will lead, no answers, basically, of course, chasing Santa Clause. If you will. But I feel video the shoe or boot fits than perhaps there some scientific method or we could even extend our naive logic. And we can use it to pump up the proof of his metaphor extent. And you know, perhaps, you know, everything that we've heard about every enchanted being every angel. It's it's it's it's very interesting. Let's go to Adam and Massachusetts, I Adam young ground zero. How you doing brother doing? Well. I gotta ask before. I started my questions are you religious at all. And if so what is your religion, none of your business? And yes unreligious? I don't think it's anybody's business. What anybody's religious, and quite frankly, I don't participate in any denomination. So no, it's none of your business. What I do. What do you? How do you explain to people that believe in Jesus whether or not? He was real or whether or not the aliens created us, which one do we believe I believe that God created us that God is an extraterrestrial being which he is. And that God had other beings were creatures are creations that he has on other planets in. My father's house are many mansions. It's obvious. Jesus said, I'm not of his world. And he wasn't. Right. That doesn't make them aliens. It makes them beings or humans or what have you that? Okay. He hung up. Okay. Sorry. I I was getting explain it to you. But you hung up that make you mad. I mean, you know, look, you can you can follow the berry give version of Jesus or the berry version of God. If that's what you wish to do. Okay. That's fine. But we go beyond the bearded. Hallmark card version of Jesus the bearded hallmark card version of God. And we have to think to ourselves that. While Jesus came in the flashy was got in the flesh. How to contemplate that very idea is remarkable. It's indistinguishable from magic is indistinguishable from the powers that we have no idea. We have no idea how they can be manifest because they are out of the mind of God..

"T minus one day before Nastase Cyrus Rex spacecraft arrives at its intended target an asteroid named Ben who they're the spacecraft will spend a year and a half collecting mineral rich samples to return to earth and shed light on the origins of our solar system. One person who is very excited for this event is Michael Puzzo. He's a high school freshman from Greensboro North Carolina back when he was eight years old at Cyrus Rex was still on earth. There was an ad that said named asteroid if you're a kid and so my dad bug me to look up the name of Cyrus Cyrus. Of course is an Egyptian God of the dead. I saw that he had been killed by his brother, and he returned to earth in the form of venue. Benue is depicted as Heron in old Egyptian drawings and Puzo thought that the Aspira wreck spacecraft looked like the. Bird with its long, neck and wings. So Poos you along with eight thousand other students from all over the world sent entries to the planetary society which held contest and after a year, the group chose Begnaud to replace the old name of asteroid one nine nine nine argue thirty six when my dad told me I had one I freaked out because I'd forgotten about it in two thousand sixteen Peugeot was invited by the planetary society to watch the official launch of a Cyrus wrecks on its way to do. That was awesome. When that countdown went off, Bill Nye told me, the first thing you're going to do is you're going to see the rocket. Then you're going to hear the rocket. And then you're gonna feel the rocket. And I didn't know what he meant until we felt the building shake, and that was really really cool tomorrow at around noon eastern, time, Cyrus wrecks and Banu will finally meet who's your says he doesn't plan on giving up on the stars. And what he'd like? More than anything is a giant increase to federal spending for NASA. I'm hoping to see myself in astronaut corps, something only time and space, and our government can tell the character of Jeeves is such a colossus of fiction that the name is actually a synonym for a man who is a personal servant to another man in PG would houses comic masterpieces Jeeves was the unflappable manservant to birdie Worcester, the young English Sophisticat who frequently got into Capers and scrapes that only Jeeves could get him out of with the permission of the Woodhouse estate. There is a new Jeeves novel out it's called Jeeves and the king of clubs this time written by bestselling author. Ben Schott who says it is an image. But with its own updated twist. He joins us now from New York, welcome. Thank you for having me. I'm going to ask you to read the first opening scene of your book. I was idling away the pre cocktail on we flicking cards into the coast guttural when in battle Jeeves with the quenching. Trey you whisky and soda. So he murmured placing a perfectly judged at tumbler at my elbow. I thanked him with a nod sinking with these the six of hearts beautiful so humble Jeeves. So there's no place like home as I am led to believe, sir. I mean Monte Carlo is all well and good, but there's only so much backer Aratu can play. So so many tiny snails he can win clout with one of those contraptions Pence s goose before one morning, he takes a long hard look in the mirror and asks I wonder how Mesa was muddling along without me. That is amazing. You're suddenly transported to the world of birdie. And jeeves. I want to start by asking you. What does that mean to you? I was going to say, it means everything. I mean, it was a well that I've loved since I was a child like I think a lot of Woodhouse fans. The book was read to me by an aged relatives. And I remember probably not understanding all of the language not all of the plots. But just being absolutely engulfed by this wonderful world, he created and the words he used and the glorious similarities and just the sheer joy and delight of something that was frivolous, but incredibly well-crafted. Yeah. I mean, I think that is what draws us all to it is delightful. And I want to talk about the language in your book. You use words like something's described as dreadfully spooning people say Hello with a what ho Crump? It's. That's not how we speak today. Obviously, it's not almost the pity. I would say is. So the words of the secrets of Woodhouse does oversee plots and is obviously characters but every single word every syllable has to ring true. And it's an opportunity to make a mistake and be an chronicity pick. But it's just absolutely captured the moment and the time and the texture of the period. Do you have a favorite thing that you wrote like a favorite phrase that you were just like oh nailed it? I do quite there was a phrase he flicked his lighter meaningfully like an arsonist in a hayloft. Nailed it. What I did. I read everything outlet every sentence read out loud, maybe twenty thirty times as I write and as I rewrote edited. Because it's an oral experience even though you read it it has to sound perfect. And you can only get that by reading it and reading reading like polish pebble shave off all the sharp pitches. So every word glides in a light into the next and before, you know, it you'll you I hope you find something funny without realizing you're being led down this comic path sounds like it was so much fun to right? It's the most fun. I've ever had with words. Yes. My twelfth book. It was actually I handed it in early two months early because it has no author ever, partly because it was such fun to write that. I just wrote it, and I was scared that if I carried on picking at it. I'd sort of break the gossamer spell. Yeah. And you actually added a lexicon at the end explaining the terms and their providence. Yes. So peachy would houses used by the Oxford English dictionary to define one thousand five hundred and twenty-five words, wow, bonds. He's also the first cited author for twenty six words as in. He's the first person we think these words Donald use them everything from Chris Bish to whistled, and of course, famously come spiff. Famous in my love, this is a Woodhouse original. And I saw all of these twenty six words are secreted into the book hidden there is little Easter eggs. Amongst many Easter eggs for fans of Woodhouse. Well, when we talk about your involvement in this man, how did it come about? Well, like all stories these days it started with Donald Trump. This is true in two thousand sixteen you recall, Donald Trump's Butler or former Butler came out and suggested that President Obama should be assassinated. Yeah. Actually, the former Butler wrote on social media that Obama should be quote hung for treason, which is not ill mannered that actually problematic in terms of the secret service. But for me, it was like, well, this is great. There aren't many times butlers hit the headlines. My initial thought was what would Jesus say. And so we should be clergy's isn't actually about Louis. He's a gentleman's personal gentleman. And he was very upset to be called a Butler or a valid. But that's an aside. A little short story about Donald Trump meeting Jeeves Wooster at Brinkley court, and that was published and people didn't absolutely hate it. Which is what I was expecting and the reaction was positive and quite encouraging. So I carried on writing and I thought well, all right. Let's write something. But let's twist the world five degrees to starboard and in this book, but he accidentally becomes a Brit. Spy and the villains in this book want to make Britain great again, which of course, has resonance to this moment. Absolutely. So you can't write a book without being cognizant of the period in which you're writing. And of course, you know, PG Woodhouse introduce bode as a bad character a time when sort of fascism was stirring in Europe. And so I wanted to maybe make some subtle nods to the political situation in America. And of course, Brexit in England. So there's a Trumpian moments, and there's Brexit moments with blue passports, which some people and some characters take very seriously. Indeed, what do you think that people should get out of your version of Jeeves and birdie? Well, I hope they get the joy of Woodhouse. I think people who don't necessarily know that kind of think, it's posh twits. I need to translate your British slang, meaning sort of fancy I can only think of actually slurs fancy a fancy imbecile. Yeah. But sort of good natured and slightly foolish, but the heart's in the right place. Even if sometimes, you know, the busy throwing bread rolls at each other over dinner. So I what I tried to do is to get each of the characters voices Burti certain voice, Jesus you've heard has a certain tone of voice and language. Do you need voice? I didn't try to write was would houses because you can't there's no one who can write like him. And I didn't want to have a pastiche of him or parody of him. I wanted to write imperil. So that's when my voice comes in. You know, I didn't want people to read it and think oh he's trying too hard. I wanted it to feel like a Woodhouse book the was truly an on March to someone who is the greatest craft of comic fiction. I think in the English language will there be more? Well, I hope so I mean there are options. I think I hope. Neatly tied up at the end. But there is a dot dot dot. So we'll see I mean, as I say these characters such fun to work with because they're fully rounded, and they have real voices, and you can sort of take them anywhere and put them anywhere, and they just do wonderfully funny. Silly things then shot his book is Jeeves and the king of clubs. Thank you so much. It's a pleasure. Thank you. This is weekend. I thanked him with a nod sinking with these the six of hearts beautiful so humble Jeeves. So there's no place like home as I am led to believe, sir. I mean, Monte Carlo is all well and good. So, but there's only so much backer. Batman can play. So so many tiny snails he can win clout with one of those different contraptions Pence is gong is before one morning. He takes a long hard look in the mirror and asks I wonder how Mesa is muddling along without me. That is amazing. You're suddenly transported to the world of birdie. And jeeves. I want to start by asking what does that word mean to you? I was gonna say, it means everything. I mean, it was a welder. I've loved since I was a child like I think a lot of Woodhouse fans. The book was read to me by an aged relatives. And I remember probably not understanding all of the language and not of the plots, but just being absolutely engulfed by this wonderful world, he created and the words used and the glorious symbolise and just the sheer joy and delight or something that was triple been incredibly well crafted. Yeah, I mean, I I think that is what draws us all to it. It is delightful. And I want to talk about the language in your book. You use words like something's described as dreadfully spoon. People say Hello with what ho Crump. It's that's not how we speak today. Obviously, it's not an most the pity. I would say is. So the words of the secrets of Woodhouse does oversee plots and characters but every single word every syllable has to ring true. And it's the opportunity to make a mistake can be an acronym stick, but it's also an opportunity just to absolutely captured the. Moment from the time and the texture of the period. Do you have a favorite thing that you wrote like a favorite phrase that you were just like oh nailed. It do quite there was a phrase he flicked his lighter meaningfully like an arsonist in a hayloft. Nailed it. What I did. I read everything outlet every sentence. I read out loud, maybe twenty thirty times as I write. And as I rewrote as I edited because it's an oral experience. Even though you read it it has to sound pass it, and you can only get that by reading it and reading reading like polish Pepple shave off all the sharp pitches. So every word glides in light into the next and before, you know, it you'll find something funny without realizing you'll being led down this path. It sounds like it was so much fun to right? It's the most fun. I've ever had with words. Yes. My twelfth book. It was actually a handed in early two months early because it has no author ever, partly because it was such fun to write that. I just wrote it, and I was scared that if I carried on picking at it. I'd sort of break the gossamer spell, and you actually added a lexicon at the end explaining the terms and their providence. Yes. So peachy would his used by the Oxford English dictionary to define one thousand five hundred and twenty-five words. Wow, bats, he's also the first cited author for twenty six words as in. He's the first person we think these words Donald use them everything from crispy fish to whistled. And of course, famously come spiff. Famous in my love, this is a Woodhouse original. And I I so all of these twenty six words are secreted into the book hidden there is little Easter eggs amongst many Easter eggs for fans of Woodhouse. Well, when they're talking about your involvement in this man, how did it come about? Well, like all stories these days started, Donald Trump. This is true in two thousand sixteen identity recall. Don't Trump's Butler will former Butler came out in suggested that President Obama should be assassinated. Yeah. Actually, the former Butler wrote on social media that Obama should be quote hung for treason, which is not only study ill mannered, but actually problematic in terms the secret service. But for me, it was like, well, this is great. There aren't many times butlers hit the headlines. My initial thought Jeeves say, and so we should be clergy's isn't actually a badly. He's a gentleman's personal gentleman. And he was very upset to be called a Butler or a valid. But that's an aside. I've surveyed little short story about. Donald Trump meeting Jesus at Brinkley court, and that was published and people didn't absolutely hate it. Which is what I was expecting and the reaction was positive and quite encouraging. So I carried on writing and I thought well, all right. That's right something. But let's twist the world five degrees to starboard and in this book, but he accidentally becomes a British spy and the villains in this book want to make Britain great again, which of course, has resonance to this moment. Absolutely. So you can't write a book without being cognizant of the period in which you're writing. And of course, you know, PG Woodhouse introduce bode as bad character at a time when fascism was starring in Europe. And so I wanted to maybe make some subtle nods to the political situation in America. And of course, Brexit in England. So there's a Trumpian moments, and there's Brexit moments with brew passports, which some people and some carriages take very seriously. Indeed, what do you think that people should get out of your version of g? Jason birdie. What I hope they get the joy of Woodhouse. I think people who don't necessarily know that of think, it's posh twits. I need to. I think translate your British slang, meaning sort of fancy I can only think of actually slurs fancier a fancy in Vissel. Yeah. But it's sort of good natured and slightly foolish the heart's in the right place. Even if sometimes, you know, the T busy starring bread rolls at each other. So I what I try to do is to get each of the characters voices. Bertie has a certain voice Jesus. You've heard has a certain tone of voice and language. Do unique voice. I didn't try to write was would houses because you can't there's no one who can write like him. And I didn't want to have a pastiche of him or parody of him. I wanted to write in parallel. So that's where my voice comes in. You know, I didn't want people to read it and saying, oh, he's trying too hard. I wanted it to feel like Woodhouse book, the was truly an on March to someone who is the greatest craft of conversation. I think in the English language will there be more? Well, I hope so I mean there are options, I think I hope. Neatly tied up at the end. But there is a dot dot dot. So we'll see I mean, as I say these characters such funds work with because they're fully rounded, and they have real voices, and you can sort of take them anywhere and putting them anywhere, and they just do wonderfully funny. Silly things then shot his book is Jeeves and the king of clubs. Thank you so much. It's a pleasure. Thank you. This is weekend. Addition from NPR news where we don't have any Jesus, I'm Lulu Garcia Navarro. You can reach me on Twitter at Laura's, Gina Varo, happy Hannukah. Thanks for listening and happy. Support.

"Despite with social media tells you with satisfy some curiosity on the award winning curiosity daily a NASA spacecraft is on a rendezvous with history. The Cyrus wreck spacecraft is on final approach to an asteroid for a December third arrival once Cyrus Rex arrives. It'll spend eighteen months preparing to land. So it can pick up a sample to send back to earth. And I'm gonna tell you why that's a big deal because it has one of those giant space slugs with the one on the asteroid the money and falcon flies into the air strikes back. I mean, we can only hope right? That'd be so cool. So Assias wreck stands for origins spectral interpretation resource identification security, regular explorer, but we'll stick with Cyrus Rex for obvious reasons. So spacecraft is about to pick up samples of an asteroid called Benue. Who cares? Well, you can think of asteroids as time capsules billions of years ago, the solar system used to be full of asteroids in meteoroid and comments and not much else. Besides the sun, but these little worlds crashed into each other and gradually formed planets and moons and dwarf planets, we examine asteroids to learn more about the ancient history of the solar system that matters because we want to know where the earth came from and potentially where life itself came from one of the burning questions for biologists is learning where the heck we got our water some say small bodies in the solar system brought it to earth and others say earth's chemistry, somehow generated it investigating asteroids can help settle that debate. So this asteroid Benue is one. Piece of a larger puzzle. Telling us more about earth, our history and the origins of life, something we can then extrapolate to that ultimate question of our existence. Are we alone? Yeah. Like, I said, this is a big deal. Even now Asya Rex is taking pictures and measuring things like how much ice might be on the asteroid. How big it is. And it's shape and gravity field. Cyrus? Rex will spend about eighteen months circling Banou gathering data before it tries to land since investigators want to make sure they find a smooth landing site. It's a long time, but scientists built on patients and the spacecraft can't leave the asteroid until twenty twenty one anyway because of the positions of the earth and Benue, but when Cyrus Rex finally uses a robotic arm to pick up a sample from the surface will eagerly be watching for its landing here in twenty twenty three want to keep an eye on it. You can follow Cyrus wrecks on Twitter at O S, I R. I S R E X. We live in exciting times. You may have heard that self. Driving cars are safer than cars with human drivers. And that's probably true. But even artificial intelligence isn't perfect..

"A favourite. Yeah. I mean, what's there to say, right? Influ to is, is gorgeous. And it's if you if you graphic you can have a look for the whole state in the FOX village all in that area along Ryan's belt. And I mean, I enjoy it from my vantage point where I live. It's, it's a bit of a bummer because. To the south of, of an southeast of Melbourne and. My northern skies were Orion. And all the seasonal constellations pop up is a bit light polluted. So a bit sad, unfortunately. But that's. Or December then see Venus will be near the moon, and that is always a treat on the third. And Jupiter and Mitchell near the mood on the sixth. Yeah. Michael will be back in the evenings guys in December the and on the fifteenth. You've got the germinates. Rich. I haven't checked the moon for that one. So, and so if it's halfway dark can have a look for them, and on, on the twenty second to have. Jupiter and mercury very close together in the dawn sky. So maybe give that a go as well. I see at also on the six December Phoenician Meteo sours that's maximum. Which I've never heard of have you heard of this one? No, I have to say, I mean, there are a lot of Mina meteor Meteo showers and. Bitch means if it's not so publicized, stay all maybe ten. No. So now, if you looking into, but look means if it's dark sky, and the moon is on your side or not. Give it give it a go. Also, the Luda x will be visible on the sixteenth. I see again again. So if you missed it, CIT mustard in October, try get in December. Exactly. X marks the spot that starts. Right. So. What else then of 'cause? The solstice will be on just off amid nights by so African time on the on the twenty second. So you'll still have it on the twenty first post to be. Right. Well, we unkowns anything for that, because that's been the next cycle becoming out. Absolutely. We'll be back in and people will be waiting to download the next episode. So what's the what's up thing was what? Did you have anything you believe something to talk about with, with some space missions coming up? Yes. I mean we can look what just happened to this week. Our one of the Soyuz spacecraft on the IS header leak. It was a small hole in it, and which of this -ly always results in great panic on the I s and. I thought it was a micrometeorites but looks like that actually someone Joe the whole into space craft with obviously someone probably during the production, drilled a hole somewhere was supposed to be and their cost a bit of punt panic on the IS. SO. Pretty certain somewhere in Russia. Someone's not going to be very happy hour. They'll probably be executed into the good or something. Yeah. I'm sure there is some some negative outcome for the people involved and. Then further on, I mean you know of soft spot for spacecraft that go to asteroids, because I'm in involved with Asaraha's wreck puts Cyrus Rex gets at the moment. Beaten if I can say, so behi- Bucer to the Japanese space craft, which is at. Asteroid Ryu goo and end of September and early October. The exit dropping a few little Landers on that. Asteroid and two Japanese ones, and one believe German, French little Lander, which hop over the surface, so that should be pretty cool to see very excited about about high prices, because I'm the high Busa one, which was an amazing amazing stories of everything. Everything went wrong, and they managed to limp that thing home, complete the mission, how many years, late that are derived because of the extra extra tips, that's takes us to try and get paused failed in gen and failed reaction wheels. Well. Well. I mean great in engineering outcome in the end despite failure. So really, really good. And but the second higher Busa mission. So that didn't choose another name saw think they trust themselves. And they there and so far the scans of the surface of the asteroid are great. And I'm really looking forward to these, these little Landers because what filet with Rosetta did sort of a bit not deliberately bouncing over the surface of the comment in Felix case? Still deliberate at Rago, because these little Landers have like massive spilled in which makes the, the Landa hop for a few hundred meters. So, so that should be should be interesting because you don't need much to move on on that surface. Because the, the gravity of the, the body is, is more than low. I think it's an eighty thousands of earth. So an eighty thousand g yeah. So you only have to sneeze, new off, and they haven't had any technical folds, this time round have they know goes really, really well and, and hence, I'm quite excited because they not only coming back hopefully with a sample. They also have these Landers and, and if anything it, it's, it's down the track proof of concept. If you want to do something else because if. You eventually, think of roping an asteroid in mining, it on whatever you need to know how to, to move around on the surface on a thing like that. So it's, it's quite tricky, I would say it's not like good Bruce Willis in Armageddon. You know you. So I think it's a fantastic mission. And obviously followed by Asaraha's Rex who successfully a quiet. It's asteroid Benner in August with its long range cameras, so the half the target in field. So, and it the space craft will arrive in December. And so it's, it's busy time for deep space missions, the same like new horizons. They'll be New Year's day at ultima Thule. Our carpool belt object there. And, and I mean, that should be absolutely spectacular, and they zipped past that one and over the next probably two years. You get the photos back because it takes so long to send them down here. Yeah. Wait for that, either. Because I mean Puta results were surprising an amazing and wonder what is further out there. What? Absolutely. I mean they did. Many objects like that out there just waiting to be discovered, and, and so on. I'm excited for, for NASA that decided to, to first of all keep the mission going and go for caught about object, and who knows what comes after. So I wish Allen stern, and the team or the best to elect that they don't drive it. To the object, but they, they are really good with what they do. So. And on that note for everyone out there reading a little bit of astronomy. Literature, Allen stern and David Grint spoon. They call offered a book about the new horizons mission and the many, many decades of history behind getting extra to the mission and the politics. So and, and also with photos in it so highly recommended. So if you can get your hands on it, it's also available as an audio book, minus pictures from. From the belief audible. So I'm not getting any any royalties from audible, but I know they have it. So if you prefer it to draw to work and listen to something like that do. It's good. All right, then gray. It's funny. Yeah, I see just what's back in the news since we mentioned Pluto, is the idea of changing it back to a planet and. I it's funny because on the one hand, I am so over Lewis I don't care anymore. Pluto doesn't care, you know Pluto was planets when you horizons was launched timelines wrong at stop being a planet, but the plant the it was still the same the same fascinating little world. It's still out there. It's on a no. It seems like an emotional decision to me. And although the latest arguments, which is not that new, but I believe it's been reiterated refined a bit is that we should define a planet based on what a world Israel's than where it is. Which I find how it's all you against. I mean, I'm a bit conservative and I, I was upset too much, but I thought it was. A bit shortsighted to, to change it into a small. What's the official term minor planet of believe dwarf planets? Planet. Yes. And, and. If you look at the, the history behind it, I mean, it's, it's, it's more politics than anything who did that and one when they voted on it the half of the people who were allowed to vote that were in there. So and so for me when I learned more planets, Pluto was the planet and bullet bollocks. It's still one. Yeah. No, it's, it's, it's strange. I mean, I've always taken the ground that planet is what we define it to be. It's is a is a human concept. You know the physical change. So the reason it changed made sense to me, as somebody that they was no full definition, and we have this problem with many things. What exactly is a galaxy? What is an asteroid or something stopping asteroid and start being a planet all soaping comments? Or what have you that? So I want to say because between comet and asteroid. That's very fluid. Especially if you look at things like. Jersey main co have ever Zeta was. That's more or less rock with obviously condensed gases on it. And but once once the, the comment has outguessed most of its solidified gases you left with a pile of rubble going on the same path orbit. And so he suddenly, it's an asteroid would say, so look, I think we haven't seen the end of it. Gonna go round and round. And like I said, although I was, I was quite convinced by the original arguments that addition is needed. And this is how it was decided by whatever process. That's what it is now. But the new arguments was changing to say that it should be, you know, it shouldn't be disqualified from being a planet, just because it's over the wrong shape, for example, especially, since over its change, planets move, look at the niece model so something it's today might not be a planet in a few billion years. Let's say it's a big round world big enough that it's round. It's absolutely it's round and, and tennis not fusing hydrogen. It's got it's to it's going to go to moon. A big one and, and some smaller ones, and enter. So look. As you say, in the end, it doesn't really matter. It's, it's a it's a beautiful celestial body of our loved the photos and, and in. Oh, our hope one day will go back maybe the land. I mean it that should be really spectacular. Nope. You know, I'm still around to see it because it's obviously very long term stuff. Yeah. Yes, I actually do because bef- got a Martian land on the why insight, which is going to.
