"It was the most beautiful, brilliant. People started bowling like I am now. It was so fucking powerful. Obviously he was doing something on The Beatles song, you're on your way home. You're going home. Beautiful. So back to this story. I'm sorry, Fran. I just have to interject something there, but France has after, as I made my way past him, he stopped me, Ted Koppel, and advised me to keep my page up. He didn't like the way she announced what she announced on the phone. He smiled. Kind of smugly. And I said, I definitely did not have a future in broadcasting. I definitely turned red with embarrassment knowing that I totally messed up the announcement. But I thought in that time, when I've heard you talk about women's sports announces, and she laughs. Love you. And as you walked out the door, Ted Koppel couldn't resist one last thing. Got the network that almost dumped in three years ago. Dead couple was so pissed off at ABC News for dumping him. And in his final broadcast, after more than 25 years in that seat, he asked his fans to give one of his successors Martin Bashir Cynthia mcfadden and Terry Moran, he said, give him a fair break when they start this new show on Monday. If you don't get copper said, I promise you the network will just put another comedy show in this time slot and then you'll be sorry. That's what Ted Koppel stood on the air. And of course, back then, ABCs, and this is why I love these stories. It makes me think of stories I have back in the day that I wouldn't have thought of. So you definitely break loose memory from the cobweb of my mind. And back in early 2001 or two, ABC was courting David Letterman to replace nightline. And that became a big embarrassment when Letterman decided to stay at CBS and that was it. So Ted Koppel, 65 years old, was able to leave ABC News after 42 years on his own terms. Sort of. ABC made it clear it wanted nightline to return to its live roots with anchors that worked 5 nights a week. Scheduled at Ted Koppel just wasn't interested in. So he left, he didn't really retire. He just left, and for his finale, because that was a big pen cople fan. I always thought it'd be a funny skit if, you know, if you were Ted couple son. And you came home late one night, maybe you stunk of beer or maybe you had some marijuana smoke on your jacket and you walk into the house and your father is that couple. And for those of you who don't remember what a fatherly figure he was like, I'd always thought of a funny joke would be you walking you creeping in all of a sudden the light flicks on and that's your dad Ted Koppel going. We're here now with my son who has come home an hour and a half late. Man, I smell your breath. You know, just destroying his son for being out too late and having fun and all this kind of shit. Maybe it just makes me laugh. But it always made me laugh at ten couple as a father. Would be so scary. I remember his finale, he did something with a guy, Mitch Alba, a great author who wrote one of the best books Tuesdays with Maury. And he said goodbye on his own terms.

"I just listened to one of my favorite podcasts with David Spade and Dana Carvey. Love those guys. They have such a great podcast. What the hell is the name of it? Flying the wall. Flying the wall is great, and they always interview people who work on SNL. And they just bring back so many great memories. So I just heard about Jimmy Fallon and Will Ferrell and horatio sins and the other crazy guy, we're in that famous tail bell sketch. Memory Christopher Walken, we need more cowbell. You know, I put my pants on one leg at a time in the morning with the differences. I produce gold records, so they're talking about that sketch, and it was one of the first few weeks that Jimmy Fallon was on that show. And this sketch as great as it was. Remember Will Ferrell banned the cowbell? What is belly out? His shirt was short. He just didn't hear Chris guitar ratio stands. Jimmy Fallon will fell brilliant. And thalam was talking about how the stage was shaking when they did that sketch. And obviously I've been on that stage. I've done this show. I did two sketches there. Back, I don't know, 20 years ago. I'm probably everything I tell you is probably 20 years ago, but it shakes when the laughter is just so huge. And Fallon was saying, this sketch was a sketch that came on at ten to 1 a.m. or 5 to one, the most sketches that they probably don't think are going to work out so they put them at the end of the show. And you're thinking, how could anybody think this sketch not might not work out? It's brilliant. But it was 5 to one sketch. And walk and Chris walken was basically doing an imitation of himself. I would walk you out belly. He didn't talk that way. It's crazy. I'm going to hankering for more cowbell. So interest levitated the room and I was listening to the show and this morning and I loved it. 'cause these are things there's a little nugget you don't find out about unless you listen to shows like this,

"Com and schedule your free estimate today. And a surprise announcement today from the house January 6th committee, it is adding a hearing tomorrow to present evidence it says it recently obtained this after the committee said last week there would be no more hearings until July. Joining us now live to talk more about this is NBC nightly news anchor Lester holt, Lester, this committee announcement is sparking a lot of speculation many people I think are thinking blockbuster, perhaps, but what are you hearing about it? Well, we're not hearing a lot that committee is not saying who the witness is and they're kind of sticking to that language that's some new material or new information has emerged, but it is certainly led to a lot of speculation. I won't necessarily engage in that, but you can certainly understand last week they were saying that was it until late July and now something that clearly they think is urgent enough that the American people need to hear sooner rather than later. Let's turn to what's happening on the state level following last week's Supreme Court ruling on abortion that overturned roe V wade. Your colleague Cynthia mcfadden investigated a state funded crisis pregnancy center in Texas. What did you find? Yeah, she went to look at these centers in Texas, which happened to outnumber abortion clinics substantially. They don't offer abortions they offer information and counseling and alternatives to abortion. But they also are dispensing information and our team took a look at some of that information and questions about whether it is accurate. And also pointing out that these are largely public funded these crisis pregnancy centers. So we took a deep look into that tonight. Breaking news this afternoon involving an Amtrak train derailment in Missouri we're seeing some dramatic images what do we know so far? Well, the early reports is the train may have struck a truck that was crossing the tracks. We have seen pictures primarily from social media, the train lying on its side and there are report of some casualties, no firm numbers right now, but we're going to continue to watch that and we'll have all the latest tonight on 19 years. One more thing you have your NBC News Intrepid reporter, Richard Engel with an exclusive one on one as part of the Aspen ideas festival tomorrow tell us about that. Yeah, interview with president zelensky, who has not done a lot of interviews of late, but Richard and the president had kind of a interesting conversation about the Russians and about the particular brutality of some of their actions that have been witnessed what many are calling war crimes. And he reflects on that, trying to understand how people that once lived together as part of a union could now be so divided. So we'll hear that today as well as they have the latest from Ukraine where there have been attacks Russian attacks and parts of the country that have not been struck before including a shopping mall that where there may be a number of casualties. Not just in new jersey but all across the country three bizarre discoveries three separate suitcases all containing human remains the woman who is on trial for her life. She says the real truth behind the crime has never been revealed with no history of violence and no apparent motive for murder. Could she really have done it too. The idea that this beautiful nurse could have actually killed her husband and then cut him. Up is just incredible. Of course they were salacious aspects.
