Hey, How are you doing? Just great. Thank you. Happy Fourth of July. What do you think? The reason is that that number seems it seems low, doesn't it? Yes, it does. And I'd like to offer two reasons from humble perspective. One is I think the media is full of negative news all the time. And so for people who are only getting their news on the CNN or MSNBC, they're only seeing negative news reports and how bad everything is because that basically is part of the Democrat narrative. The second reason I'd like to offer is one that you haven't discussed yet. And that is this. Today's young people and particularly age group that you mentioned the demographic profile of those reporting negatively are basically they've never served their country. They've never. They've never had the draft. They've never been in the Peace Corps. They don't really understand what the older generation does about how we're all connected and how what we ought to be doing is serving our fellow man. They've been so self absorbed and into their own perspective, that they really haven't had a chance to develop and mature into the to the more that the broader view of how we are all interconnected. You know what I think That is a really great point.

Shaw, Lauer lead Brewers past Bauer, Dodgers 2-1

"The pitching matchup was a mismatch but was Eric Lauer and the bullpen that helped the brewers nail down a two to one win over the Dodgers Lauer pitched the first five scoreless innings and four relievers were good enough to outdueled reigning Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer Bauer had one blemish he gave up a fourth inning two run Homer to Travis Shaw in his complete game four hitter Shaw says the brewers knew it would be difficult to score on power it's tough to rack up a bunch of hits after it against a guy like that so when he makes a mistake you got to kind of capitalize on it the Dodgers have a couple of rally snuffed out including in the ninth the Dodgers scored against brewer closer Josh Hayter with then got Mookie Betts to fly out to right field to end the game with the potential tying run on first base Chuck Freeman Milwaukee

They traded him to cleveland then. He went to the reds and won the cy young award. And now he's going to the dodgers. Wow and he almost won it certainly. He was a contender at least once if not twice with the indians and he's got a bunch of he. He has a weird training methods and he's into spin in the ball and he's he he works with that. Now It's time for news about your money with Bloomberg filling in for silly. We have genius already Today. It's brought to you by bay Alarm. If your security is not the best, you're not secure. Stock futures are pointing to more gains after Wall Street notched a new record highs yesterday, President Donald Trump signed the pandemic relief package and Apple hit a new record closing high. A Treasury officials said The department plans to start issuing $600 direct payments from the pandemic relief bill this week. The House has now voted to approve $2000 checks. The Republican controlled Senate made blocked that effort, even as President Trump supports the larger checks. But the Treasury officials said that any new payments authorized by Congress would be added to what has already been paid. The return to office trend is backpedaling. Data from Castle Systems, which tracks swipes of employee security cards, says the percentage of workers who were back in the office in the 10 biggest U. S Business District's fell to around 21% of pre covert 19 levels in the past week. Down from 24% the week before, Gina. Serve Eddie Bloomberg radio. All right, it is time now for extra 13 16, fox Sports San Diego. Steve Hartman. Hello. Hello, Donna. Remember the old word about San Diego is we're a small market. Small market. We got it. I got to think about terms of small market. Small market teams. No, I agree with you that I remember. How are we? A small market, right? Well, ownership of the Padres is now proving that we're not a small market and they are spending money like crazy. So yesterday we talked about Blake Snell, being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays will now the latest deal. Yu Darvish coming in from the Cubs, So you've gotten really former Cy Young Award winner. In Snell, and you're getting a guy that was runner up for the Cy Young Award last year Now, what's interesting about these two guys is that they're under contract, both for three more years, combined at $33 million a year. Add that on top of the fact that the Padres and at last season with the sixth highest overall payroll in baseball, and we're not little guys anymore. Let's make this clear. They're acting like New York. Here. Just spending it, you know. Hello, Dodgers. Hello, Yankees. You know they're gonna Jack up this payroll, Which tells you they're committed to winning. But this past season five. Hey, thank you Since I swear we built that stadium, right? Wait a minute. No commitment to winning. Who did we didn't last season? Didn't we hire a bunch of big names before last season? Well, that's what I'm saying is that they're now going toe, right? Okay. Sign Hosmer, then. Obviously the Manny Machado 300, Right, Right, right. Right. So now they are continued to build this team and pitching was a necessity and they're going out and getting to establish starting pitchers. So this This is a great sign for Sandy. Go, Padre fans who've been long suffering with the idea that it can. Well, you know, we really We don't have the money to really contend. You know, That's garbage. There is money there. Peter Siler is taken over for Ron Fowler Is the man running the show and he made it clear with our own. Darrin Smith. You're Darrin Smith. That he was going to be willing to spend the money if necessary. That was a week and a half ago, and here they are adding $33 million to their payroll to get to quality pictures. So this is a great sign right now, on top of the fact But you also have to impress Fernando to teach junior your future. Maybe the future baseball the face of baseball that if you stay in San Diego were committed to winning, We're going to surround you by other plea or going to get all those players. So I mean, this is tremendous news for long suffering Padre fans that really have felt Short changed by ownership that they're just not committed to 18 brain. And if you're a fan of any team, what do you want? Hey, are you committed to winning? I'm in. I'm all in. I'm wearing the gear. I'm going balls in the seats. I'm spending money on that overpriced food. A Peco Yeah, it's good food. Yeah, that's old cutlets all gives little pricey, Right? There's old friends and family you're up to about 2 50 seen the money. I'm investing the time I invested the energy Do you feel the same way? And the answer now, when this ownership is where there for you so I couldn't be more excited right now. Obviously, we got one major professional sports team in this town, and they're committed 20. So what's better than that? Well, and that seems to breathe and perhaps a little bit of momentous, So as we build this new stadium or not stadium but sports arena in the sports arena area, perhaps an NHL comes in, and they look and they see Number one butts in the seats for the gulls and number two Padres down the road, contending and they go. Well, We could be a part of that winning thing. This is it. We've got to raise the bar here. While other cities like Houston, Indianapolis have built these facilities to raise the profile of their cities we got in the opposite direction. But now finally, we're gonna be tearing down that old stadium. We got a new stadium. We've got a new sports arena. Exciting time. Sports wise in San Diego. Right, Hardman Eve R been extra 13 60. Have a great show. Thank you, Ted. All right. All right, some expressing concern about the type of inmates paroled due to the pandemic. We have that story on the way. Plus, we've got your traffic. "It's my pleasure to announce the 2020 National League Cy Young Award goes to Trevor Bauer of the Cincinnati Reds means a lot to me personally, 100 grade. Announces is awesome. I grew up a big race fan watching Dragon smokes and glad of everybody. On TV all the time, so that they have him announcement is pretty special. Where my favorite pictures this he's after hours with Amy Lawrence. Congratulations to Trevor Bauer, who becomes get this your nerd alert, postseason baseball style. Cincinnati's first ever Cy Young Award winner That is never happened before. So congratulations to Trevor. What also congratulations to the Reds organization who now can take itself out of that dubious category of never to have had a Cy Young ord winner. They were one of four active baseball teams without a sigh Young until Wednesday, the only team founded prior to 1961 to be without a Cy Young. So that's kind of cool, not just for Trevor personally, but for the Reds as a franchise. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio Bauer beating Yu Darvish of the Cubs, Jacob deGrom of the Mets, and, of course, did Graham was trying to become the third pitcher in baseball history to win the award in three straight. Seasons. But this one going to Trevor Bauer five and four this season and had the best your ray in the National League 1.73. And consider that this year you had the Universal D H show a little bit different than what National League pitchers would have faced in the past on Lee made 11 starts. But he boosted the Reds to the postseason for the first time since 2013 and is still in his own mind completely undefeated on social media. As for the American League, this was a unanimous award and Ah former Bauer teammate in Cleveland Indians ace Shane Bieber. I like it. Bieber and Bauer, Bauer and Beaver. I would say it sounds like a boy band, but you would need more than two of them to make up a band. It's not. It's too quirky to be Legal firm, so it wouldn't be Bieber and Bauer attorneys at law. Dentist. Maybe Bieber and Bauer now Producer. Dave, Help me out here. Clowns, Bieber and Bauer. Magicians mean what? It's tough every time I hear Beaver, I think of Justin Beaver. I know. I know. It wouldn't be a lawyer. No, he wouldn't be. But it's not enough for a boy band, so they have to be an act of some sort. A circus act Beaver and Bauer. Yeah, well, Bauer definitely falls into the circus and cleaning company Bieber and Bauer cleaning clean your pools. Oh, there we go. Beaver and Bauer Cabana Boys go that far. So Shane Bieber one half of the duo Beaver and Bauer. I just I need to know how that they fit somewhere in society. Davis service to provide no doubt But he was the unanimous winner of the American League Cy Young Award winner and listen to these numbers eight and 122 strikeouts 1.63 E. R A and he led the majors in that category. And also tied Yu Darvish for the most wins second player in franchise history to win the American League Triple Crown, joining the Hall of Famer Bob Feller in 1940. That's amazing, But even if you consider modern era baseball first pitcher to lead the majors in strikeouts in E, R A. And then of course in wins with Yu Darvish First guy to do that in the modern era since Johan Santana. Oh, there's a blast in the past Johan Santana for the twins in 2006, speaking of the twins, they're writing came to my e to and then also Blue Jays lefty he engine re you both of those guys recently of the Dodgers. Those two were 2nd and 3rd in the voting. But this one is all about Bieber being unanimous choice just being Kind of join this group and be in the same list of these players that were mentioned earlier. Just TOC able to get the season in this year and to do what we did, and You know, I've heard to finish this way is extremely special. So congratulations to Bieber and power. I'm sure I'm the only one that thinks that fuck that's funny. I know I'm an idiot on Twitter, a low radio. We've got our master's pull up. Also on our Facebook page after hours with Amy Lawrence and I had a chance to tear yap or rap with Bob you slur lately who is joining us now to provide our updates here at the bottom of the hour, So Bob, let's Let's start with golf. What's your interest level in the Masters? Not as much as it normally is Amy there I don't know if it's the seasonal thing that probably is it But I have to admit, I am underwhelmed by the fact that the Masters begins well, now today. I wish I could say I'm excited for it. But there's just something anticlimactic about a classic springtime event being played close to Thanksgiving. I'm going to miss the azaleas myself. I am a flower freak. So I'm gonna miss the azaleas. Yeah, There's just so much about, you know, the masters, the sounds and the colors and the sights and what it portends, which is, you know. Spring in summer's coming and the first major of the year. Of course. Yeah, and it's just seems a little weird. All right, So I mean, isn't everything else in 2020 weird? It is perfectly put, and I will say this get me to Sunday. I'll be into it all right, because it's confidence competition and this high level competition and it's the masters. But in terms of worry, sit right down like And not all revved up right now..

Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series, but also become super spreaders of the virus?

"They won with a powerful lineup. But did they risk turning the world Siri's into a corona virus super spreader into a super spreader event? It Let's let's talk about the good things for a Shall we then Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series first time since 1988 and had been a long time coming in a lot of failed a lot of false starts at the beginning of this decade in terms of winning So many division titles and just sputtering in the playoffs, losing to the infamous Houston Astros in the 2017 world, serious getting beaten by the Red Sox in 2018, and this time they were great. They were fantastic. Even Clayton Kershaw that everyone talked about couldn't get the monkey off of his back. He comes out and wins. Two games in the series, and it was great for them. I think that they they did it the way that great teams are supposed to. They scored more than half of their runs with two outs. Everyone's looking for all that clutch. All those clutch performances and the Dodgers really did come through. They were They were fantastic. Even with the crazy game for 87 collapse that we thought was going to turn the Siri's around in a different direction tied it, too. But at the very At the next turn, The Dodgers come back and they never look back. They are champions, and they very much deserved it. Even though it was an eight game season. It was very much Before playoffs and everything else. Yeah, it's it's a legit championship. But but but but but Justin Turner removed from the game because it was positive for Corona virus. He returned for a celebration often mask lists hugging people. He sat next to Dave Roberts, the manager who is a cancer survivor, and therefore more at risk. How How do you finish that sentence? How do we characterize this? Well, he characterizes as a massive massive Hey, irresponsibility on the part of Justin Turner on the part of the Dodgers and certainly on the part of Major League baseball, even though Major League Baseball has tried to get out in front of this by laying the blame at the feet of Justin Turner, and it is his responsibility. However, I have a hard time believing that that he was allowed to play with an inconclusive test, so they took him off of the field after the test was Was found to be positive. But if you have an inconclusive test, how do you let him play in the first place? And so everyone's going to take responsibility for this, But this is what we're seeing across the board were seeing this at the University of Florida with all of their positive test. We're seeing it with the big 10 as well on the Big 10 had made the decision earlier not to play, and then they got bullied by the president into playing, and now they're canceling games. This is the thing Scott we talked about this months ago. Everyone saw this coming, but this country has just made a decision not to care about it. And, of course, the discussion of the weak. Ah, Kevin Cash, the Tampa manager, pulling Blake smell Blake Snell, Tampa Cy Young Award winning pitcher after he struck out nine after just 5.5 innings because of analytics. Tampa lost with almost the next pitch as this decision become emblematic of these over analysed times. Well, absolutely. But I had a revelation during this world serious guy and I think I've always known it, but it it wasn't crystallized until watching this. I don't watch baseball or I don't watch sports for wins and losses. I watch sports for competition. And this this thing they did not let Blake smell compete. And this happened at a time. When look at who we lost during this baseball season where you've lost the great picture, Whitey Ford, you lost the great competitor, Bob Gibson. And these players, they're legends come from competition, and if you're not going to let a player compete, what is the purpose of being a Cy Young Award winner? You're not even going to be allowed to have these classic championship moments. If they pull you out of the game. This is why we watch in baseball. At least the Tampa Bay Rays took that away from us. Howard Bryant of ESPN Well said, Thanks so much. Thank you.

"So I've been doing sports talk ever since I enjoin the station start shortly after it started. And so, therefore I have no nai in 30 plus years and I wanted I it on because I want to talk about the N B. A and the bubble that is being created down in Disney, and we're now getting closer. Players actually reporting and I just want to get his take on the entire n ba thing. It didn't hurt that coincided with this anniversary special, but they've got going on it. W F a n a week anniversary week to mark the 33rd year to start of the 30 40 year of its existence. As I figure we get a couple of Former F A N guys that well, I still work there not full time. And Birdman hasn't worked there in a dog's age, because he's one of the biggest play by play guys on the face of the planet. But either you're because that I punched him up because we are being simulcasts on w F A n right now. So I need you will join us and Mike Farren from Sirius XMs. MLB network radio will have aboard Ah little bit later in the show, and we'll talk about baseball's restarts and baseball news been breaking all day positive tests. Couple of players opting out, the latest of which per John Haman from less than 10 minutes ago. King Felix Hernandez has officially opted out of the 2020 seats and now the former Cy Young Award winner for the Seattle Mariners has not been great the last several years and he went the free agent route this year. And I thought he was a kind of low budget under the radar. Low cost high potential payoff guy for the Atlanta Braves. I actually thought he had attempts to Ah, cracked the Braves rotation. You're not going to have to worry about it. This year, According to a friend Felix has decided to opt out protect himself and his family from covert 19. I don't have his salary numbers in front of me, but I I don't think it was much more than a 1,000,000 or two bass. And whole bunch of incentives. King Felix has been making a whole lot more than that over the last several years, So the financial sacrifice these making by staying home is not nearly as great as it could have been in previous seasons. If the pandemic it had 234 years ago, when King Felix was one of the best pitchers in baseball, ese Deciding to protect his family. Good for Felix Hernandez, I o. P. If he wants to come back and pitch in 2021 might be a little difficult, but another guy has decided. No. You know what? This is Just not the right thing for me and my family. And if they do that, there's nothing anybody can do about it. And anyone who calls him on the carpet with him a hard time for it, because their life situation is different and don't understand their teammates or there. Uh, guy on another team that they compete against their fellow competitors might not be in the same life situation. They are. So you have just have to accept it. When someone like King Felix decides to step away from the game hit me up by my phone line. You got the number? It is a type 5 to 124227 David from George, You're good enough to check on in. Hello, David. Hey, Joey. How you doing? Good. How about yourself? Oh, I'm doing that. I think I talked to you a couple weeks ago. I told you I had the Corona and I'm feeling better. You know, that's good. I'll tell you what. Don't write. Just came handle. No more Good news today with bloody flame and Felix Hernandez and everything that's going on. I'm just heartbroken, Jodie having I'm looking so forward to the baseball season and have I just gotta accept the fact that it's just it's looking Blake, you know. Well, you're right. Today was a bad day for the Braves. But it's been a bad week for the Phillies. A team that's a brave compete with me. At least. They had four guys and significant guys to like angry and hunter in their bullpen. And Hector narrates. They're closer. Um, and one more player. One forgetting today was Adam hazily, their center fielder. The Phillies already have, like six guys who have tested positive out of the 60 day have on the roster. So Major League Baseball came out with the number the other day, less than 2% of tested positive which is good. What certain teams air like already over 10% positive, which could be a death knell to a season. That's exactly right. And he just never know what's gonna happen. So I mean, you just got played by here, But I want to tell you about a story when you were talking about the horse track a couple weeks ago about you. The biggest super effective he ever won. I just want some information that was going to call you back later. But I just didn't feel like it. I've been down and out for a couple of weeks, but I know you're up to it tonight. Yeah. Way used to go to the dog track over here, ma'am. A brother, My uncle Ah, couple three times a week over the Birmingham or either victory Land and shorter Alabama. And they had everything simulcast, you know, from all the trucks around the country, Sure. I walk in there. And there's a rice get ready. Call from how Leah Now I don't have a program or nothing. And I said, Mike, you want to split a super effective ticket with me. We re box for we played, you know, just, you know, just have a bet down. And so I want the win and got the 1 to 11 12. Box in the simple effect, right? It was a 12 horse races up inside an outside, right? Didn't know what else to do it anyway. I hadn't seen putting up Anyone watching on the TV screen? The rice goes off. We'll ask where Jodi, it ran all the way around the track 12 to 1 11 I mean, never. I mean, it just I mean, he couldn't have got a better I didn't know what it was going to play the hand checked out. But I looked up there and we had all the four long shot. No. All for the longest. Well, not What we had three of the longest shots and another medium shot. So it comes back at you know, we won't put up with Don't you know how you get all sweaty and stuff? You want results to come back? And Brother says, and this will be telephone numbers. You know, it's gonna be a big one, and I look up there and it's 3336. World..

"One a cy young award with thirteen can't look at those you can't and then they'll be any Rodriguez and reports all get incredible run support Chris sale doesn't so that will impact the wins and losses for starting price I just look at at sap as there's more issues than okay you plug in the closer in and of all the moves to the starting rotation at this team to me there's something internal that if they just have like you said they don't looking gauged and yeah it's embarrassing to be almost no hit by a guy who's been a journeyman sort of a no name the player but the offense has been fine it's just that that's baseball you see this from time to time we're on unknown pitcher you Lucy a pitcher get hammered one start the next start it's almost a no hitter you know what I would recommend people to do next time Welsh pitches bet against the Orioles are probably get absolutely all the guy on the mariners would never it almost threw a perfect game right he had three I mean you got to the nine to the perfect game into the next time I'll bet against him yeah probably yeah so I I just I don't see it as a cure all trees for the rest of her out at this point no I tried to help definitely I would sell I don't because stand Pat you're not gonna get into the wild card if you make a trade I still don't necessarily think again the wild card so that leaves me too okay they should sell because they have a couple pieces and we'll talk about them I seems like ad nauseum the past two or three weeks for Sello JD Martinez who are going to be free agents I don't think you have any chance or interest in retaining wall JD hello opt out I think he's going to opt out well if he continues in the season he's having I don't know where the market's going to be because two years ago there wasn't a huge marketing is coming off a huge twenty seventeen he had a a normas twenty eighteen his numbers this year are not that great so I would look at it if he opts out what with the market be there she may opt in for that third year and then you could pop in again for the fourth in the fifty year at twenty three twenty four million dollars I don't know where you're gonna make more money than that at thirty two year old designated hitter who by the way I play the outfield Friday and is a viral video of a seven year old girl playing the outfield to look a lot better than JD Martinez on finally on played in a while he's not comfortable buy him a might opt in but I I don't show okay let's say that he he does he think he's leaning toward opting in and he's your thing is getting worse on the field is production so then when you also look to trade and for that reason that's kind of one of those weird things right because you want the value the player go down a little bit you don't want them to perform at the highest level because now the value goes down like with Mookie Betts last year probably wasn't the right time to talk about a contract extension maybe this offseason will cause death is not having the year have last year so it's kinda ball in your court you can maybe sign him for eight nine years thirty thirty five million was last year the market would have been higher you know the value which JD Martinez look let's look through some of these numbers guys what he's done so far this year compared to last year and again last year you know he was top five MVP voting twenty eighteen at three thirty forty three home runs a hundred and thirty RBI ten thirty one OPS a one seventy three OPS plus many seventy three percent better than the average enter in baseball he could very easily been MVP of the league but obviously Mookie Betts with the defense of value was the MVP of the American League so far this year JD Martinez is heading to eighty five nineteen home runs fifty one RBI OPS at eight sixty five OPS plus of one twenty two is only twenty two percent better than the average player he's down huge numbers this year compared to last year and in the month of July the we're in right now like fifteen games sixty nine plate appearances he said one home run four RBI and he's got an OPS at five ninety one I mean he's had a horrible month of July and he's in the middle of a line at the school was a lot of runs you've got obviously bets Devers Bogart's in front of him some pretty good hitters after him he's just not been the same head or is it was a year ago now but he's got finished with still like I mean a pretty good year those mean those numbers would average out to a meeting in a let's say stay the same average you can you can feel okay with the guy getting to a five inning thirty thirty five home runs and ninety RBI yeah an OPS of eight sixty five that's not worth twenty four million dollars a year it's not today it is not for designated hitter given no value in the field that's true he doesn't give you value in the field I think he's going up paying Giancarlo Stanton to not play but think they've also don't have as many bad contracts as the rents are I am just saying he still value will back in in a line up but I think he does have value in a trade I don't think that because he has that often closet because his numbers aren't as good this year that teams are certainly can be scared away for dealing for JD Martinez in fact they might see it as an opportunity having getting cheaper than we initially thought we could have gotten it well if there's one team in the National League that would love him would be the Dodgers because now there's this connection here the Dodgers hitting coaches Robert van Skyhawk who I'd never heard of them until recently Robert van skyrocket sounds more like a scholar he's gonna know hit the red Sox isn't even pitch he's the hitting coach now at the LA Dodgers last year he was a hitting strategist with Arizona didn't even know that was a job that is a job and he was hitting strategist the year before with Arizona when JD Martinez was out there he is kind of a guru this is almost like a father of one triangle and in two thousand and thirteen JD Martinez turned his entire career around his guru is Robert van Skyhawk who now is with the Dodgers when he was with Arizona last year as a hitting strategist JD Martinez was able to communicate with him well now that he's with the Dodgers the Dodgers is saying no no no no no no we pay you to be our hitting coach not to help JD Martinez who by the way beat us last year in the World Series maybe it's a mental thing that he can't reach out to his guru to help him in times when he's not hitting which is this entire month of July that would be an issue then married Martinez because it hitting a lot of it's between the years that have Brady couldn't reach out to Guerrero and can talk to him and before that he had his own quarterback Tom something I forget what his name was Tom that's how source Tom Tom house is one of the guys that works on his motion whose actually Major League Baseball pitcher and it was another fellow who died three or four years ago who was kind of his his quarterback go over we're gonna break a lot of gore rules at all that's fine I know you're right it's it's the it could certainly be that that could be at a part of a JD Martinez is I get I don't necessarily want to say struggles and because those numbers are still good but compared to last year there were there obviously way down so maybe his level of somewhere between now and he's not as good as it was last last year not as bad as he was the role of the beers before and I know he was a he was in there is an international legal bit for it to but he did project is one of the he was still one of the best hitters in baseball in Arizona for two and a half months he was ridiculous so yeah I'd say he's probably somewhere in between but I take closer closer to that high level than I think this is just been a down year for him thirty two he's had some issues with his knee yeah so you've got to be concerned he could be declining he he could be but if if you if you believe that near the red Sox then wouldn't you be wise to try to trade him right now yeah it's it's a tough situation because maybe his value goes down a little bit by the time you get to the trade deadline unless you think that you can right the wrongs and have him be better the last two months of the season and any office in the next year it's like a trying to drown inside straight here he is better sap the offense hasn't really been the problems okay getting more runs but you're still you're pitching staff not been good no that doesn't even address the pictures that my point being that is trying to sell off pieces not out off of trying to trade Mookie Betts right now no you can it's an insanity it's going on it's too complicated to do in the middle of the year I mean you're not it's not a shoe string sort of deal and it's a really it would be a lot faster yeah so that's not that's not happening and I agree they shouldn't do that right now but I think we should take a long hard look at at guys like Porcello Angie Martinez and say what can we get for them they can help rebuild this farm system could you possibly trade poor Sello get some prospects get anything okay and produce it seems to me that ball whatever I don't care if any are a mid fives and you're not re signing him so it doesn't really matter score a lot of runs for him is four straight starts EE clearly like their favorite picture so maybe you get some sort of mid level prospect for him couple him with one of your prospects again body doll box I'm just throw his name out there because he's a third baseman and Raphael Devers looks like he has that position someone up for a decade and you move on and you got to Kirby aids or Giles and then you address your bull pen and now of all the swings back into the rotation so that your rotation that would be price sale Rodriguez of all the and cash in our I yeah I mean that that could work you're all in to try to at least speaking as a wild card at I get that that it optically it looks like they are close to the wild card but if you if you bring young looking at the standings if you look at the team and you look at the way they've been playing you look at teams ahead of them it just doesn't seem like they're gonna have the juice to get in all of them no matter what they do is they canceling the trade for somebody like Madison Bumgarner I wanna I wanna hear it anymore the.

"Radio sixty six. Fromer man, what happened to the weather man going to be like fifty degrees and raining fifty degrees tomorrow in New York. You may may twelve fruits mother's day. It's supposed to be glorious sunshiny day. It's supposed to be really really nice. Give your mom's and flowers lilies of the field. Well, happy mother's day for all you mothers out there. I'll be Rosenhaus Tommy Luger at the controls. And we'll take you through till Yankee pregame show at twelve twenty five and we have no worries at the Yankees will be rained out because they're playing in the mausoleum down in Tampa Bay ballpark with catwalks and wires hanging from the ceiling of gothic architecture. But they will play in a great pitching matchups. Nell who's Cy Young award winner versus Tanaka and the trying to take the rubber game of their series and get into little bit closer to first place. I was talking to Sweeney yesterday. And we were speculating like how these Yankees this be team Yankee team with all these guys that you've never heard of have managed to get maybe take over first place, and of course, with last night's game that did not happen. And you know, I was marveling at this Sweeney says, well, you know, you can't count on these guys forever. And I think it's something to think about because I've gotten a lot of calls in the last few days about people saying, well, you know, they playing small ball. You see they're they're coming up with ways to win. They're actually bunting their hit and run the opposite field. That's when you for home runs all the time. And boy when the big guys come back when judge Stanton DeeDee and all these guys come back. Gee, maybe they're going to upset the chemistry of this team. And maybe they're not gonna win like they do. Well, think about it a little bit. First of all, you know, that when you've got stars by judge Stanton indeedy. On and on. You know, you're you're going to bring them back when they're healthy. You're not going to say, well, you know, or shallows actually doing pretty well and DD, you know, we're getting used to the globe are Tories shorts that second and Lamaze playing great. So you guys just rest sit on the bench. Don't worry about coming back. No. It's not going to be the case. You are going to get your big Bopper is back your home run hitters back and for better or worse. That's what the Yankees are. Now. Maybe you'll learn some lessons from this that there are times when you can advance the runner there at times when you can hit to the opposite field when you don't have to take the big swing when you can take a walk and move the chain along as opposed to trying to make things happen. There's a nice balance. See that's the thing. I think we. Have kind of lost not just in baseball. But in our country that it doesn't have to be left. Right. It doesn't have to be small ball or boppers, but you can have a mix you can have a balanced whatever works and last night. And the Yankee game he saw some things that worked and some things it didn't work in Lamaze. A perfect example. Guys, a terrific hitter. A terrific defender but last night. There were three balls that he didn't play. Well, the first one the stolen base attempts where you're catcher Sanchez gets the air. And if you watch it in slo MO and replay it wasn't a bad throw. It was throw that if LeMay who had his glove on the ground would have caught and would have been able to apply a tag. Maybe the runner would have been out maybe would have slipped under it. But the ball wouldn't have gone into center field for an error. So that one I can blame the Mayhew on. But the other two the one where he goes deep into the hole, and I don't even know what position you'd call that anymore because he's not playing second. He's not playing shortstop. He's in the middle of the field somewhere, a backhands it and he's off balance, and he can't get a handle on the ball..

"Okay. And the calls we will take and and before three and don't forget JJ after dark John jazz Stransky at three to continue overnight under the covers so breakdown all the NC double as vita at the Betty can't wait to talk with you about what the NCWA right now. The only concern I have is my wall brackets, my flower brackets, Mike, candlestick bracket because any and all other brackets are just shredded by now. But the bottom line is JJ at three you'll know from that. And he can't wait to talk to you about the Yankees as well. And I did hear something today that the that when you go, and what will I get right to your calls? I promise certainly before three. But you I heard today from a wise and sage individual. And this wise and sage individuals said that Yankee fans, they don't come to the ballpark to see the keys play. They come to see the Yankees. That sounds like something Confucius would say now it comes from someone older than Confucius John sterling who he said that what the Joe in the Evan before during their show yesterday before the game. Now, see, and and and now when you open fortune cookies because I had some Chinese earlier as you know, I'm Jewish. I talk with my hands. I have the savings account, and I love Chinese food. And I had with the with the fortune cookie. When I opened it up a was a saying from John sterling, so wise, and sage he has become what is it? All right to the phones. So we go, and we'll get into some of the record breaking with side Guam. I've already mentioned to you little while ago about thirty consecutive starts now in which he has you know with the getting three or less runs. In a game maybe sometime in and winning for the sixth time in his career only the sixth time and his career that he would get two runs or less and win. And so I mean, you know, but he gritted out topped it out. There were a couple of times and game in Washington in which it looked as though the crash animals were going to score but did not happen and canot the star both offense and defensively. But to the phones we go, and Dave is calling from Brooklyn, New York and debut on the fan. What's happening? You have no idea when I called up about fifteen minutes ago. And they said you want to speak this, Steve I said that is precisely you have no idea, I want to speak to you in particular. Okay. Well, you're gonna have to forgive me because I called you last year about this. And we had a nice laugh about it. But I'm going to have to bring it up this year because the stars align so perfectly as state would have it the Cy Young award winner against the runner up and the Cy Young award winner was just a little bit better than the runner up. Sherzer just as Graham was a little bit better last year insurance. Which is why should have unanimously won that award. And I hope John nasty. I know he did this can't be locked on him. He has to be noticing that the Cy Young award winner the ground with a little bit better than shirts. And I just I hate to rub the salt in his world, this this is this is joyful for me. Well, it is. It is wonderful. These are the kinds of calls. You get when you start at one o'clock, and but the bottom line, thanks a lot. Dave, a you were a lot of fun to listen to. And no. But you're right about everything that you had to say and listen to this with side Graham, and by the way, his twenty five consecutive quality starts are tied for second. All time one behind Bob Gibson. He has thrown nineteen straight scoreless innings with twenty six strikeouts. One walk, wait. Hold on just a second. There's a little bit more. Again, you know, and we mentioned before about the thirty consecutive starts with three runs or fewer and in one hundred and forty career starts Seig Rahm has allowed one or no Ron sixty five times. That's forty six percent. Almost half of his starts. And that is the most starts. Most such starts since at least nineteen. Oh, wait unbelievable. I want him to be extended again never mind the extension from like the Incas even dry on the extension. He deserves another one. And what is it L? What his daytime ERA is one point nine two, and that's three hundred and nine innings in his career for those keeping score at home. And I know you are his daytime ERA. One ninety two is the lowest in the majors since nineteen thirteen. I'm not making this up. He's making this up. And it's not fake news degrom becomes the first metropolitan pitcher to strike at at least ten hinders and allow no runs on opening day. Give him another extension. CJ a first time caller from Mt. Holly CJ. Give you statistical. Yes. Yes. Because you know, I'm all into stats. Yes. As it is I especially with something should be done. Out. Nineteen eighty. This has been a hot teams. God. Final four eighty hard to believe. Well, yes. And that's a good stat CJ. And I think what does this now with Purdue eight elite eight appearances, and of course, the overtime the overtime game with Tennessee was very exciting. But, but are we are we sure it was a clean victory for Purdue? I think there was some controversy there. C J at the end. Yeah. No. Yeah. No like. That's exactly right. Right about that. Like that. Maybe. Look. I play. The Mets on. Speak. Better. I think so. I would agree with you CJ. And I thank you for the call CJ. We apologize was not a little bit of a bad line. But nonetheless, thank you for the call CJ. You know, always abbreviated Rosario had one very good at bad. Worry was knocked down by sherzer twice in the bad getting up and battling his way through the at bat. I believe it was eight or nine pitches and make nine and then he got a set. So he hung in there and stayed in there, and even though Alonzo Alonzo said after the game, I was just going to go up there hacking, and he drew a laugh from the media at his locker after the game. And he was talking about listen facing. Sherzer he was not uncomfortable in the batter's box. And neither McNeil looked uncomfortable. I'm not saying they did anything. I mean, what was it? Got a hit the here. I hit there already. But the bottom line is they both looked comfortable in facing shores are now, you know, it's not gonna be that. And he's nasty when he's on his game. We pitched well enough to win. But he was going against diagram wasn't. He. Mardi gras mardi calling at one fifty two. And I like that from you Marty. Thank you for doing that. You are the Yonki fan. You have to be happy with what you saw. I show was Steve it's always great to talk to you. And. Yeah, I mean the day started with Marianna throwing out the first pitch again better than that. He looks like he could still close easily looks the same way. What was amazing about? That. Was Sanchez made the catch that is amazing. Maybe hopefully he'll publicity around. He had coming game. A good game defensively. I echo your thoughts. What you mentioned join your monologue. I I don't see how you can take Luke Floyd out of that lineup. He he really looks like the real deal. He's not going anywhere. I'm. Andy was batting clean up. Right. I really he really injected a lot of enthusiasm into that crowd or not. I wanna hit that three run home. I listen, the your I envy Amardeep because you get to see a lot of this. And and Marty thank you for the call. We have to take a break for everyone else. No. From the one eight seven seven three three seven six six six notice before awhile voids homerun right away in the first inning that two hits. You got the off field from judge. And then with Stanton also going the opposite way for void who hit that thing. I mean, it's still going and centerfield. Alright. One eight seven seven.

"Fan. Eight seven seven thirty thirty seven sixty six sixty six a lot of Jacob degrom and a potential extension. That's getting us go, and we'll get the Yankees in a matter of moments because personally, I am signing with one Joel Sherman. I totally agree with the narrative that this off season is okay that this season is absolutely acceptable. Even without the like semantic Machado lease for now and Bryce Harper taking their talents and put on the Yankee pinstripes. But I think when I work with to met fans and the met contingent. I should get their pulse for how they feel about the lack of an extension. So I'm gonna ask the two of you. Because for me guys if this doesn't get done by this time next year. I think there's a monumental problem. If the ground doesn't have a contract, let's say by opening day. Are you going? To be bothered all I'm going to be real bothered, and I'm going to start getting nervous. Because again, if they somehow let this guy slipped through their fingertips, it would be a monumental disaster. You cannot under any circumstances. Let this guy go pay them and make them happy. And let's move on. He's one hundred times one hundred percent. I'd love to disagree with them. But this is if they don't sign him, this is, you know, the Simpsons gift with the fire and the pitchforks. This is everything like that. And it's coming on city field continuing cheapness of this franchise, not getting real Mutoko. That's the first one. And now not even letting this it got to this point is a disaster not gonna kill Moto Cassandra Wilson romo's. I'm gonna come on the fact that the two big players haven't even been mentioned. Stand. There are other teams haven't I get that. But the Mets right now we're on the cusp the Mets right now don't have those emerging position players. They need them a lot more than Chicago. A lot more than the dodgers. A lot more than the Yankees Red Sox. The Astros take your pick that to me Paul would bother me a lot more than not landing JT. Here's the problem with that. He's JT is he's a top three catcher in baseball probably top to. There's an argument that is the best catcher in baseball, and you had chance to get him. And you decided you wanted to have the potential of something good instead of a peak? Sure all star caliber player and shows not together. Yeah. But you got Ron Ramos. And you didn't have to give up anybody for him in Rama's can rake. So to me, if they had gone out and got a Grondahl, then you could sit here and scream and yell if they had gotten, you know, mouth DeNardo or something. Then you had a reason to get mad. He got Rommel's that's fine. To me a guy like Bryce Harper changes the entire culture of this team. Which is something they need to do. The starting pitching starting pitching. That is net. Apologised I'm sorry. They need a impact hitter on this team. If you don't think so you're not watching or you just simply aren't apologised for the team. And here's the bottom woke up and down baseball every team. That's contending right now has young emerging position players. Their prime. Find me the bad team amongst you know, LA, right? The Yankee look get their own division. Atlanta. Philly come on. Lineup is absurd. What they had Freeman Albee's. It's not the Mets have nothing. And that was my problem. They never getting Harper Machado Email. They should they had a chance to get real Muto, and they were cheap. And they didn't want to do it fell issue to see though with the Mets are released coming from as far as this year with the ground because they do still have him on the contri- for two more years. It's not just a walk your. That's why the way I look at this situation. I say by the time, you hate the law Kier that is when the deal needs tobacco. That's when the deal needs to be done. It doesn't have to be done by opening day. But it's not done by opening day. Twenty twenty there is a huge problem on your hands. That's the key. Can't be a lame duck. Best Cy Young award winner in baseball. He can't do that eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. We'll see if Saint John's get a hold on here. They are. That's a terrible final possession. Bipolar and overtime seventy five seventy three looks like Saint John's get a hold on. Let's to the Bronx cities up next foul of Eddie. What's going on buddy? Good show another presented what he got. All right. Yeah. They definitely got to clamp down on the ground field. They have to do. It isn't his classic situation here where they always try to. I don't know. You know, it's always the same thing here when they could just clamp down stamp on organization. The first this guy. Well, not always the first year GM, let's take it a step further. Eddie, he's the former agent of Jacob degrom. And basically the same guy that came out in the summertime and said, hey, guess what? My client wants an extension, and if he does again extension, he's gonna wanna get traded. So this is not my vocabulary. This is devote cavalry of the so now the Mets GM is around. Jacob degrom. You would think. Okay. It be the top priority. Let's see if Brody van wagon and a New York rats are gonna make reopen. Jacob degrom their top priority. I'm telling you a guy that wants to come back here a tested New York product with the lack of run support that you gotta give this guy a steak dinner the contract. You know what I mean? Dan, letting this guy go to the final year of his contract. It will be an out disaster for the Mets because they won't cable. If you honestly believe the Mets winning a bidding war with all the top teams in baseball. Go into reality. Check. Could you imagine degrom is out of here in two years? Can't take that risk. No way. No how let's head to New Jersey. Ryan. He's up next on fouls up Brian. Man. I am a lifelong fan. And if they don't get this deal done by opening day of this year. I think it's going to be the biggest mistake they ever made for two reasons. One has been the best boats. Turbo. And mentally strong pitcher. I mean, he threw his style young year in a year. What it would be so easy for him to phone in some of those starts with his that offense was behind the and if they don't sign him before this opening day, if I'm I'm betting on myself, and I'm not taking the extension next year. I'm playing out the last year my contract and going into free agent. Those teams get into a bidding war, so they need to sign this guy for five years one twenty five because worst case scenario if every other day made if all the guys that they got coming up all take steps back and are terrible this year. They got a guy blocked up through the x five years for one twenty five that they can trade and at that price point the teams that are better going forward. We'll be fighting over each other to try to get this guy. So you'll have an asset on the open market. It's a win win. If you get this guy locked up, you gotta do it. If the Mets I don't know if I can find that flag anymore. Who is Ryan? I think you bring up some very fair points. And I appreciate the call. That is not a guy you wanna mess with. He's too important in a fabric. He's too important. A culture I'm not saying you have to cave to every demand. If you probably van wagon if New York Mets you need to do that. But you need to make sure everything is okay. We your most important player. Kerr on the risk of employment. Elsewhere, no way. No how let said to river edge. Tim is up next on a foul. It's happened at TIMMY. How are you? JJ? I am fantastic. How are you, sir? Fantastic. Tim. What do you got? Okay. Let's keep it rolling here. All right to Graham for the Mets as a met fan. I I'm sorry. I'm a Yankee fan, but I'm just trying to imagine myself. I want them to play hardball. Histogram? I wanted to play horrible Garon. He's got two years to go before you become a free agent. Why would you sign him right now when he's gonna get mass dollar? He's not gonna pitch as well. Last year francesa touched on earlier. I've just repeating in a situation is I agree with big Mike within I can understand the argument of letting this go and other eight to ten months, that's fine. But Tim, if you think it's a good idea to let the gram going into final year of his contract, you crazy if he goes to the final year of his contract, do you? Honestly think the relationship between he and the team is going to be wearing needs to be where you think they can work out a long term contract. I mean, honestly, do you believe that? Honestly JJ. It's the price is right there. Grumble stay with the Mets and eight to ten months. Well, listen, that's fine. If it gets done before the year die have no problem with that. If it's something that goes into the start at twenty twenty you won't get a chance to keep Jacob degrom because I don't believe the Mets will win a bidding war with these teams. I really dont. If you tell me Jacob degrom on open market knowing how dynamic he is. Do you think teams like the dodgers the cubs St. Yankees Red Sox? They're not gonna upped the ante and make a big deal. JJ again, you're you don't wanna sign him though. When he is worse. The most money if you're the Mets you have to be patient here and just wait a little bit can't put on a Yankee cap because I have a true Yankee see here's the problem with your narrative. Tim coming at it from Yankee side of things, and almost seems as if you want the Guam out on the open market. So the Yankees can end up with them. We we head in that direction. I get it. Then listen, you're right now, dealing at a major position of weakness. As far as the way is feeling because if you're gonna try to go into negotiation with the Grammy's like, hey, I'm the best pitcher in baseball just won the Cy Young. I did this. I did that I have all the leverage. Now, the Mets going to say they have leverage to they got two more years left on the deal. You just have to understand you're dealing with a very slippery slope because this is not some hired gun here. This is the most important piece. You have in your franchise. Can't screw this up. JJ? I agree with you on certain fronts. Let's just say like degrom goes out any pitches. Pretty well. Let's just say he's five and four his year as three and a half dot, great, not to standards. He's gonna ask for less money sign a bedside of in bay you save.

"You start a new season you need a great starting pitcher on opening day. And I have one of five time all star pitcher who won seven Gold Gloves and finished in the top five in the balloting for the American League Cy Young award six times and who finally received his recognition last month with entry into the hall of fame. He won two hundred seventy games pitching eighteen years in the ferocious American League east during the teeth of the steroid era in his first appearance on this show since may the fourth two thousand eight because he doesn't wanna be overexposed. It is a joy to welcome to the show might be senior. Thanks about. We like to stretch him out. You know? Eleven years. That's why I asked you to do the show. So listen, how's the season going for the boys basketball team at Montoursville high school birthplace of the Little League World series? Well, we're doing we're doing pretty good. We're fifteen five we we took our lumps yesterday. Didn't play very well. You know, when you when you shoot the ball and doesn't go in the basket as much as you need to tend to be a bad day. So, but we're having a good year and the kids are working hard. We've got a couple more regular season games than we fought five for the playoffs. So so we get to play little extra basketball. Could you beat the nicks? No, no. We can't beat the next. But you know, we're we're doing okay. Do you? Do you coach baseball at all? I I help at the baseball team. There's our head coach is very good, and and young energetic. And so, you know, I sit on the bucket keep scorebook and help the pitchers and catchers, plenty for me. And I'm I'm enjoying it. That's great. I thought it was great at the hall of fame press conference, Mike when you said, quote, I'm just thankful that first year the twenty percent of the voters felt I deserved vote. There are a lot of very very good players who don't make it past the first ballot unquote thought that was very generous of you. Well, I I mean after now that I was on the ballot six times. And you see the guys who are who. And of course, the guys that are are now in our guys that I played with against and and I know the quality of player, they they were and. You know, it's it's it's I feel I feel extremely lucky because I know how some voters are about certain things and and to get in on the very first year about for somebody that won twenty games at one time no World Series win. No Cy Young award. Didn't lead the league in categories year after year to get to get twenty percents to be able to stay on. And then start walking. My way up was really was really. I mean. I'm thankful that that twenty percent. And you know, you do the math probably a little more than one hundred voters. Maybe felt that felt that I deserved to stay while you can make a request about the logo on your cap for enshrinement. It's the hall of fame ultimate decision. You'll go in like catfish hundred did in Greg Maddux with no logo. But did you make a request of the hall for one or the other? Yeah. Actually, no, we discussion started rightfully beginning. And the meanest it's not like they've never done this stuff before. So they know they already knew the ten years in one place in eight years and the other place and how the how the statistics are pretty close to split in half. And and so they kinda. They offered me. The they the suggestion of ne- neither to go in like Maddux did and and they showed me a picture of his plaque. So I saw what I was you know, kind of the idea we were talking about. And and so, you know, it was it was for me. It really wasn't that difficult decision. I mean, I I you talk about a place that I signed what they drafted me. I came up with them play ten years. Right. You know, made my first playoff appearance all those things had really good years move onto the next the next city, and it ends up being the last place I play and I play eight more years and and make consistent trips that post season and and get the plan on the big stage of Yankee Stadium. And but but I said at the press conference, I you take away one or the other. And then I'm not talking to you. I wasn't you know, I'm not I'm not going to Cooperstown. So I can't I can't. Really? With. Good feeling choose one or the other. They're they're both extremely valuable for what I was able to do such a hard decision. Mike one hundred forty seven wins for Baltimore hundred Twenty-three in New York. And I think the decision that the call is made is a is a proper one Mike Mussina with me on Ed Randall talking baseball, do, you know, the story of the of the Orioles scouting you when you pitched for Stanford against UCLA and Ed farmer, the longtime a White Sox broadcaster at the time was working as a special assistant for role in human the general manager the Orioles, and he would do, you know, do you know that story about the day that former went down on behalf Raleigh? He meant to watch you pitch for Stanford against UCLA. I don't think I talked to when I was playing. I thought I had quite a bit and. He probably told me the story. I don't actually remember it off the top of my head now. But what happened was that you had pitched against UCLA? You didn't do good job and he walked out and he told the Orioles areas scout quote unquote nut for me. And then his wife Barbara suggested, you know, what you should really go. See seen a pitch one more time. And he went back to see a pitch against USC, and you were lights out and the they drafted you eventually number twenty in the same draft that had Chipper Jones one Tony Clark to and they of course, had picked you as well out of out of high school. But it's a very funny story that farmer tells us he saw you as a freshman. He thought you were better. And then this day you didn't pitch. Well. Happens sometimes throw. Well, and I'm sure there's there's all kinds of stories out there of players who had really good careers who who their draft situation changed which would change their whole real future based on one game that one scout saw them play. Right. And and so, you know, I could have if they listen to ads from the first time I throw and he never went back and saw me play. Maybe I never played go to Baltimore. Maybe I end up someplace else things don't work out. And and you know, this whole this whole story is is this whole journey is different only fourteen months out of Stanford. You're in the major leagues, but I the team bus AA runs over your luggage. Please tell us that story. Well, we. Obviously were word the clubhouse. I had just arrived a couple of days before and through the first home stand. And we were well the first one for me mill home stand for them. Three games. And then we get our stuff, and we loaded up the bus guy pulls up, and you know, he opened those underneath compartments where you store all your luggage and all your stuff, and he opens them up, and we had a couple of our luggage right next to one of the things because he said I'll put him in. I wanna you know, put certain things at certain places, whatever. So we set it down there. And I started walking back to grab my other stuff that I was going to physically carry on the bus, and it turned back around and he's moving forward because I don't know if he was in the way of somebody's car, or whatever any dro-, and because of the way the parking lot was had a little bit of a turn in it. The bus per he has to turn the bus and by turning the boss, obviously, he went right over my suitcase. And so I'm looking at it bounces over my suitcase in of course, I said stuff you don't want me to say on radio. And what just happened? And of course, you know might. Old school stuff, and they might. So I've got I've got shoes in there that are were standing up on their side. So they're like it rolled over men snapped up. The toll of the shoe, right and a half. I had a couple belts in there that the buckle was just crushed down to you know. Just smashed you can't it's completely useless now. So so kneels to say that was how my minor league professional travel experience started. So we go on a road trip. And I got stuff that I can't use and ended up ended up. You know, obviously, you survive it and all that stuff. But it was just an interesting. And of course, that's the very first trip. Right went out and and my debut by professional debut last the two innings. So we got a torrential downpour. So hard to get the tarp on before rain for the heavy water got on top of it. And then they couldn't move it. This is the minor leagues. They have you know, four six. Grounds crew. They can't move the Tarpon. And by the time players out there to try to help them. It was just too late. It was raining so hard 'cause this is like July, and so my debut, my actual professional debut, two innings wasn't even official. So I had to I got a second debut. I two debuts in minor league baseball. How did you get to New York in two thousand year thirty one you go eleven and fifteen for a Baltimore team that doesn't score runs shows. No life, and you're on your way to free agency and Peter Angelos the owner of the team he did. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I mean the. The process were we're trying to work out some kind of deal and the band. It just didn't just wasn't working, and they traded away a lot of players at the trade deadline, and you could just see our future was was was changing from where he had been in like ninety six or ninety seven when we've been in the AL CS two years in a row. And it's just it was just different. So I was trying to work out a deal with him. I was willing to stay. 'cause you know, I just I really like Baltimore at the time. And and I still really like Baltimore. But it was just it ended up being the just wasn't gonna work and the Yankees just finished winning the World Series and not two or three days later. Joe Torry calls me and says wants you to call up to New York. I said Joe you guys have you even like taking a break yet. He goes, no, I'm going on vacation a couple of days. But I want you to come up here. We'll talk to you first. So. I drove up to drove up to New York. We had we had dinner by myself. Joe and Brian Cashman had dinner and. White plains. I think somewhere up there, and now it's pretty much it. I was just I was just really impressed with their willingness to. Call within like seventy two hours from winning the World Series. Like they had a whole bunch of other stuff going on. And they were interested. So interested in me coming to them that they did this for me. So so that really, and they you know, they had the success in the stability. I mean, I knew who the coaching staff is going to be and and all those things. So it was just it was just the right thing at the at the right time. Can you win seventeen in your first year in New York and get to the World Series? And they do not get to the two thousand and three World.

"Montana or Tom Brady? You got to see these guys. And you appreciate them. You may you may you may be a red sock fan, and despite the keys with your whole being, but you have to appreciate the talent. Because then you can't have your dislike for team cloud. Your your your ability to see how good this guy is. You know, the question always ask is. Can't stand this guy. Could you would you take you? If you could have on your team, the answer is always. Yes. Guys pain in my my. But he's always ballboys beat my team where I love to have them. Absolutely. But since I cannot just boom anyway. And even his last year as at forty three. Forty four saves. And remember he missed a year in in to not the nine games is only pitched in two thousand twelve he blew out his knee. If forty saves. Or more nine times fifty two times. He didn't win the Cy Young award. He was in a top ten six times. It's consistency. Now lie guys grow up. I wanna be I wanna be Willie Mays. Not too many people were saying they wanna be Mariana because most guys wanna play all the time. You don't see many young kids saying I want to be a close at nine hundred play all the time. And if they're pitcher and can't succeed as a started any become closer. And then maybe as saying I want to be married hitting the setting the bar too high because first of all do you have the cutter to be like Marianna? I knew a lot of kids that when they play ball. They had a different batting stance representing their their hero. This your. The kids who banning stances that coming to change this guy. He's just watching TV and changing the stance. You might even have a guy in my pitch a little bit like another picture, but you know. Yeah. I never heard kids say I'm gonna be just like Maryono once cutter. Now, he something special. I don't know if you know the guy like him again. They'll be dominating pitchers, and you Chapman, Hugo one hundred six call the time. He's out there. Betty Marianna skier guys more than somebody like Chapman. Because you know. He's got a little bit of movement, but not like Maryono eight seven seven three thousand seven sixty six sixty six hundred come back with your calls right after this. Lawrence with minute. Another awesome piece of history for the greatest. Closer of all time. Yankee Mariano Rivera is the first player to receive a unanimous induction to the baseball hall of fame all four hundred twenty-five voters included him in his first appearance on the ballot. Now, honestly, how could you not six hundred twenty-five stays overnight one thousand nine hundred five World Series rings? He was better in October eight and one in the playoffs with a point seven zero ERA and when he's ushered into Cooperstown. This summer he'll wear the number forty two proudly already retired in honor of the great. Jackie Robinson Rivera was allowed to keep the number until he retired though. No other player could wear it after him now with his induction that I contact number. We'll carry extra significance to Cooperstown. And more yellow is the perfect ambassador for it. Class dignity, grace, sportsmanship and humidity the total package, I'm Amy Lawrence. We got our W twos from work, and it was kind.

"Do you think he gets in today, Tom? Yeah. This is going to be to me the highlight of today at least in terms of drama and surprise because he's the one who's going to be right on the bubble is Mike is gonna fall somewhere between like seventy three and seventy seven percent. Of course, seventy five is what you need to get in. And there's no rounding up by the way, you have to hit the seventy five percent. I hope he gets in. I've been voting for him each year. I think the electorate has come around to him. You know, he started like twenty percent. Yeah. You guys know watching his career. He was always one of these almost great guys. Right. Almost perfect game. Almost went twenty until his last season got overshadowed by people like Pedro and Johnson and Clemens and Maddox. But man, you look at his body of work that she has entire career in the AL east in the steroid era. One of the greatest slugging Ariza of all time sixty percent of his career starts were made in Fenway park. Camden Yards and Yankee Stadium, and he came out of that with two hundred seventy wins more than one hundred games over five hundred one little nugget for you, by the way. I know he didn't win a side. But in a ten year period, he got eight eight times, he got Cy Young award votes. There's only a few guys who've done that and Randy Johnson Nolan. Ryan said he Colfax I think are the other ones, but is very unusual for a guy to be consistently at that high level. And that's what he was. Maybe he didn't have that one Cy Young season. But he had a lot of hall of fame season. So I hope he gets in if he's not going to get into. This year. It's going to be like Ed mcman Martinez. Egger was so close last year. He'll get in this year. So Mike say they're going to get in this year or next year. I hope he doesn't have to wait another year. Right. So how many think four five on a call for you? I'm gonna say that that does get in. Of course, you've got Marietto trauma. There is one hundred percent or not ROY halladay is getting in edgar's getting in. So I think we'll see again another class of four. Excellent stuff, Tom. We appreciate it. Again. Their coverage begins three o'clock this afternoon MLB network. And then the announcement tonight at six great stuff as usual, Tom. Thank you guys. Thanks. Thank you. Tom Verduci MLB network. Get where he's coming from publicly connected to it. The bond stuff out of the books and all that. I just personally am at the point where. While they did sheet. There has been so much of different kind of cheating going on in the game. And so many different ways for so long. Whether it's Greenies whether it's a sign stealing all that kind of stuff back in the day. You know? I at this point. We have this era that has to be dealt with eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. So we have these Mariano facts cliff corker and wrote a story forty two things Marianna Rivera for sl. And I just want to every once in a while today on the show kinda pull a couple out for you guys. Right. Yeah. Here's one Rivera had more saves six hundred and fifty two then hall of famers Rollie fingers and the former career leader at three the former curly or three forty one and goose Gossage three ten combined his nine hundred forty nine games finished are also major league career record. He ranks fourth in pitching appearances with one thousand one hundred eleven which is a record for right handed pitchers while oh, and there's more where that came from. New York streets of the newest football team. In town invite you to get in the game starting this April part of the national arena league the New York streets play at the.

"Present. Resilience. Welcome to the second episode of you're wrong, and here's why I'm Chris Hubbard l. joined by my co host, Greg, Greg, fun. I episode last week. Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Good to see some of the reaction that we got already in the reviews and stuff. Yeah, I didn't care for it as much because you know, we, we did decide that last week would be kind of a test week and we wouldn't put the polls up and all we have our what we're in, our tunes reviews, and I believe you, you took a slight victory if that's our metric we're using. I mean, if we're going to base it off of what I saw. And what people left the I'll take. I'll take the wind in week one. Minds to argue that who are you to argue that? And thank you to everybody who, who took the time to listen, who took the time to rate and review all that stuff. We're doing fantastically on the, I tunes charts, the reviews, the ratings, it's all flowing in. We were, you know, top top five top ten throughout the week. That's awesome. That's that's more we that we can ask for and we genuinely appreciate it. Mea, southern Grech. No, no, no, I completely agree. I thank everybody that you know has taken the time out to put in the reviews and comment on what they like about the show, and it's it's interesting to see this much interaction this early on. So what did you think of the first week format? Do you think we need to change anything? I mean, I think that it certainly a work in progress, but I like I kind of liked the flow of everything. You know, just short, little snippets, going back and forth and present your argument. Yeah, there. There's one thing we're probably going to make a change on in the next couple of weeks, but. For this week, we're going to keep things status quo and the three topics that were going to be arguing, Greg is going to argue that Jacob degrom deserves the Cy Young award. I'm going to let you know why I believe the NFL needs to keep the preseason to four games and then Gregory on the merits of having won. The comment vote gets his second topic, and he's going to argue that Jon Gruden has ruined the Oakland Raiders. Let's let's get into this. Let's start with Jacob. Degrom Greg. How about we're gonna put two minutes on the clock wants my iphone opens at some point in the future, and let's do it, Greg. Why should Jacob degrom when the Cy Young award arts? So let's let's just take a look at it from purely in ERA standpoint. The guy is twenty-seven starts this season and is a one point six, eight ERA. If you take a look back at, you know, just the last. Twenty years in the NFL for guys who have won the Cy Young. There's only been three guys that I can see that have had it sub to we are as in their higher than that. Now that's Clayton Kershaw back to back years and then Jake Arrieta. And then as you keep going in the NFL, there's no, I guess Eric on you, but he doesn't actually count because that's a closer. It's completely different world in the AL in the AL. There's only one person and it was Pedro Martinez who posted a habit right in front of me. A one point, seven, four zero in the year. Two thousand outside of that. Nobody else has even come close to the the degrom has. Obviously the record is the biggest thing that people look at. I look through all the records and it's always guys with fifteen to twenty plus wins, and that put you have to look at the team that first March April run for the Mets was unbelievable to Graham had a three and record. He gave up nine runs in thirty nine and a third. He had. Forty as eleven walks in those six starts in that timeframe. And then as the year went on, that team fell apart. You can't blame the gram. He's losing games one, nothing. He's losing games to one. He's not giving up is not getting anywhere near the run support that you need to give this guy in the month of June..
