The Dodgers game 102 million over three years to think with them, and he has met that's been met with reservation in some cases disdained by some of the team's fans. Concerns about his projected on field performance aren't the issue despite the fact that he's pitched to a sub for rearranges two of his nine pro seasons instead its powers endless social media activity, which includes instances in which he's prompted accusations of online bullying, two of which involved women. And became the subject to harassment by Bauer's followers. He's made anti transgender jokes, something he denied doing consciously and has dismissed sensitivities around the Cleveland Indians local, prompting questions about his fit in a liberal market and inside a tight knit clubhouse that has become increasingly socially conscious. Just days ago. He has Dodgers fans on Twitter to tone down the autograph requests in public Bauer at his L. A presser on Thursday. Everyone makes mistakes in the past. I try to learn from him. I try to learn as quickly as I possibly can try to understand other people's viewpoints on things and be better in the future. I think if you look at that my history is as a baseball player, my history on social media, and my history is a person for those who know me. Well, they'll see that I applied that processed everything that I do. I'm committed to doing that moving forward as well on. Ultimately, I'm here toe be a positive impact on anyone that I can be both in the community in the clubhouse on the field at the stadium. Whatever the case is, so I'm excited to be here. "Was a big day in the history of the los angeles dodgers. They went out and signed the biggest free agent on the market. The biggest free agent of the off season that is trevor bauer who will now join a dodgers rotation that includes bueller and kershaw and price and may and some combination of that. They traded him to cleveland then. He went to the reds and won the cy young award. And now he's going to the dodgers. Wow and he almost won it certainly. No new Hall electees in rare outcome
"Of 2021 was announced yesterday, and it includes Nobody. Absolutely nobody zero players on the 2021 Baseball Writers Association of America Bow It received the votes necessary to get into the Hall of Fame. Nobody zero Barry Bonds and his seven MVPs. Nope. Roger Clemens and his seven Cy Young Awards hit the bricks. The bricks Power. Curt Schilling close, but no cigar. None of them appeared on 75% of the ballots that they need to get into the Hall of Fame. So there will not be a Hall of Fame class of 2021. All three got hammered again. Too, for being juiced out of their minds and one for well, just being out of his mind. As a result, it's the first time since 1960 that there will be no change in the number of members for the Hall of Fame. So no need to waste any time or any money on any new plaques. Obviously, I'm not surprised. And if you are surprised you have not been paying attention, or you've been lying to yourself like you. New bonds was not getting in this year. You knew that was not happening. Just as you knew the Clements was not getting in this year. The voters have pretty much dug in. They made up their minds and their decisions on bonds and Clemens a long time ago. You were either okay with them juicing up to their eyeballs, or you weren't Again Binary. Either you're fine with it or you're not. You could either rationalize it by saying they were already Hall of Famers before they started using. Or you could say that we're talking about a sport full of bull, Reuters and it bonds and Clemens were still the best. Because quote everybody was using, and by the way, everybody was not using. But that's one of the arguments. Always hear what everybody was doing it and they were better than everybody else. Let him in. No.
Boston Red Sox Take A Closer Look At Corey Kluber
"There is more activity coming out of boston as well. They are rumored to be interested in several free agents and buster olney. espn's buster only reported that quote. The red sox have talked a ton of possibilities are preparing for a series of moves before the start of spring training and quote so move. Benintendi isn't the only move. That's on the mind for the red sox There's a couple of other names here. That have been linked right hander. Jayco dharavi starting pitcher. He he's up and down when it comes to his career. He was in minnesota for some time then down to texas but professional arm to come in and give them quality innings veteran relief pitcher. Alex colom formerly of the white sox in his point eight. Era from twenty twenty now. There are some concerns when you dive in a bit. Deeper into sabermetrics there is a dip in velocity and hard hit contact has increased. But you know it is a results oriented. Sport and alex colom was still fantastic for a the white sox this past summer. You have former cy. Young winner corey kluber pitching for teams on wednesday january thirteenth. So you guys may know how that workout went by the time. You're listening to this He's gonna throw about twenty five thirty pitches and it seems to be about two thirds of major league. Baseball teams will be in attendance. So the main goal is to show teams. He's healthy show. Teams that velocity is still there because he's basically missed. The entirety of the last two seasons with multiple injuries forearm torn right Throwing muscle a lot of different things going on with kluber but he could be a perfect. You know bowe bilo free agent option for not only boston but a couple of other different teams out there and the last guy the red sox have been tagged to is actually outfielder yasuko week. You know puig's been in and out of baseball and could find himself as a cheap option out there in the outfield for boston and a lot of people don't like i actually don't mind him. I liked the energy place with. I like the passion that he brings to the yard ultimately he's probably not the performer. He once was but he'll give you a professional at bats. Play hard for you. "One world series the past twenty years. The new york yankees have had one world series victory. They lost an owen. They lost in. Oh three they won in. Oh eight. And i think that's the last time they actually made it to the world series was two thousand and eight and if you look at their team they had a roster where they had geom- be gary sheffield derek. Jeter alex rodriguez jorges kasahda. Like bernie williams. They had so much more. They had so many great pitchers on their on their staff. And they had joe tori. Who was all who's a hall of fame coach and they didn't make to the world series but they opened up the checkbook and nothing happened. You can look at the dodgers. The dodgers just won their first title in thirty two years. They've been open up the checkbook for how long almost fifteen years now since they got manny ramirez they opened up the checkbook for just any free agent was just. Oh he's going to. The dodgers will apparently not. Let's look at the super team in detroit where they had david price. Max scherzer justin verlander. They had rick porcello. Also who's you know. Has we just talked about in the last time. It was cy young award winner. Four quality like not just quality. I would say three borderline hall of will one borderline hall of fame to guaranteed with sherzer in lander david price. I feel like he's going to get in but it will be. It'll take a few votes or a few years to get in with a couple of votes and then report selo. I don't think we'll ever make it into the hall of fame but those are four very very good pitchers that they had right. There didn't get in the phillies you know when they opened up the checkbook and guy royals while you know they had roy halladay cliff. Lee roy does wall and they had another pitcher and cole hamels. Those are four pitchers right there. They didn't make it to the world series. You know there's so many. Instances where teams just open up the checkbook and are like okay. Let me just i. everybody is right now. Body gregorious they bought. Jt romeo there while they traded for jt. Romeo but They're going to try and buy him again got bryce harper. You know they bought jake arrieta. You know david robertson So many players were on the open markets. And they just were like here. Here's a blank. Check come here and nothing has worked like they haven't worked out. It's all about team chemistry. And he thinks that he can just open the checkbook and just by all these players wolf. They don't gel no cohesive unit than what what what are you gonna do. You're just gonna be spending a lot of money for a mediocre team like the phillies haven't even made the playoffs with those guys granted. It's only been a couple of years but still you have all those guys that you have all those big names you sell them and made the playoffs. So what is the like marcus stroman. What is the point you had so many opportunities to go to other teams that have a legitimate chance of making it to the world series and are a cohesive gel together team where you can fit in seamlessly as just like the guy because you have the personality for it you just get after it but if you have a whole new team that hasn't gelled yet and you know you're just kind of a bunch of guys to a bunch of ragtag dudes thrown together. Granted you know if they're able to get George springer or you know Jt rome yudo and all the guys that they're looking to get two pair them with You know with. Jacob degrom and noah syndergaard but what is your pen look like edwin d as hasn't been very good how they did this. They've already done this. What edwin diaz and getting ed Marcus stroman and getting i forget who else. But they got some other guys and then they're also. There's a rumor where i'll get to this in the next segment. But you know they're looking after frankie lynn door to help build the super team and i just don't understand it it doesn't make any sense to me Maybe they're gonna use him as a trade peace to try and get another big name player. But i don't know what his allegiances to the new york mets why. I don't think he owes the mets anything on why he would be so inclined to help the mets do anything. But i mean if it is i guess it is what it is. At this point. He accepted the qualifying offer. He's going to be at the twenty twenty one season. Maybe he'll be part of the package. Deal to get frankie lim door but even then who wants to go to the indians like why would you put yourself in that position where it's like okay. I'm going to sign a one year deal and you can trade me wherever you want to and you know a lot of teams probably aren't going to accept me on a one year rental package to give up a bunch of prospects you guys can be good and then or i can just go to a team that is you know kinda bummed team that will just take me as a contract so you can get a big name. Who has a bigger contract. Like a contract. Dump in exchange for like sort of the chris. Paul to Oklahoma city from to get russell westbrook. You know what i'm saying..

MLB awards: Finalists unveiled for Manager of the Year
"The fact that MLB started doing this naming the three finalists. Am I telling you for the past couple of years, and they've they've announced the finalists for the major awards day towards being handed out next week Monday. Next Monday, is Rookie of the year man to the years next Tuesday. Cy Young is on Wednesday and then m V P, of course, is on Thursday. So to me, the most interesting one is the manager of the year, especially in the American League and usually like man who cares, But I think it's very interesting because The three guys who they've picked in the American League to be the manager of the year. One of them is Kevin Cash, who had a fantastic regular season but has been blasted for one managerial movie made in the World Series, which was taking Blake snout too early. Yeah, he pulled a Dave Roberts. Yeah, and it makes no sense to me at all. Why he would do that, And he's going to say it's the analytics. But if you look at the numbers Blake they're actually the third time through the lineup is better than he is the second time through the lineup. And he was making them look ridiculous. Absolutely. I mean, it was. It was just stupid. How bad they looked any just struck out the top three guys in the orders twice. So that means none of them had made contact Justin Turner. Mookie Betts. Corey Seager had made zero contact, and that's the Yoon said Betts doesn't swing and miss. He makes contact and he was he made. That's look ridiculous. He absolutely didn't know that. But this year better actually hit worse against lefties. Entity is right. But that's beside the point. Yes, so Kevin Cash is one Of the three managers. Charlie Montoya. The Bluejays is another one, which I think is great. And I think it's hilarious that the third manager of the heirs, Rick Renteria, who is no longer manage manager, he was relieved of his job. So we have a guy who made a horrible managerial decision guy who's no longer managing, then you're trying. Montoya.
Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series, but also become super spreaders of the virus?
"They won with a powerful lineup. But did they risk turning the world Siri's into a corona virus super spreader into a super spreader event? It Let's let's talk about the good things for a Shall we then Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series first time since 1988 and had been a long time coming in a lot of failed a lot of false starts at the beginning of this decade in terms of winning So many division titles and just sputtering in the playoffs, losing to the infamous Houston Astros in the 2017 world, serious getting beaten by the Red Sox in 2018, and this time they were great. They were fantastic. Even Clayton Kershaw that everyone talked about couldn't get the monkey off of his back. He comes out and wins. Two games in the series, and it was great for them. I think that they they did it the way that great teams are supposed to. They scored more than half of their runs with two outs. Everyone's looking for all that clutch. All those clutch performances and the Dodgers really did come through. They were They were fantastic. Even with the crazy game for 87 collapse that we thought was going to turn the Siri's around in a different direction tied it, too. But at the very At the next turn, The Dodgers come back and they never look back. They are champions, and they very much deserved it. Even though it was an eight game season. It was very much Before playoffs and everything else. Yeah, it's it's a legit championship. But but but but but Justin Turner removed from the game because it was positive for Corona virus. He returned for a celebration often mask lists hugging people. He sat next to Dave Roberts, the manager who is a cancer survivor, and therefore more at risk. How How do you finish that sentence? How do we characterize this? Well, he characterizes as a massive massive Hey, irresponsibility on the part of Justin Turner on the part of the Dodgers and certainly on the part of Major League baseball, even though Major League Baseball has tried to get out in front of this by laying the blame at the feet of Justin Turner, and it is his responsibility. However, I have a hard time believing that that he was allowed to play with an inconclusive test, so they took him off of the field after the test was Was found to be positive. But if you have an inconclusive test, how do you let him play in the first place? And so everyone's going to take responsibility for this, But this is what we're seeing across the board were seeing this at the University of Florida with all of their positive test. We're seeing it with the big 10 as well on the Big 10 had made the decision earlier not to play, and then they got bullied by the president into playing, and now they're canceling games. This is the thing Scott we talked about this months ago. Everyone saw this coming, but this country has just made a decision not to care about it. And, of course, the discussion of the weak. Ah, Kevin Cash, the Tampa manager, pulling Blake smell Blake Snell, Tampa Cy Young Award winning pitcher after he struck out nine after just 5.5 innings because of analytics. Tampa lost with almost the next pitch as this decision become emblematic of these over analysed times. Well, absolutely. But I had a revelation during this world serious guy and I think I've always known it, but it it wasn't crystallized until watching this. I don't watch baseball or I don't watch sports for wins and losses. I watch sports for competition. And this this thing they did not let Blake smell compete. And this happened at a time. When look at who we lost during this baseball season where you've lost the great picture, Whitey Ford, you lost the great competitor, Bob Gibson. And these players, they're legends come from competition, and if you're not going to let a player compete, what is the purpose of being a Cy Young Award winner? You're not even going to be allowed to have these classic championship moments. If they pull you out of the game. This is why we watch in baseball. At least the Tampa Bay Rays took that away from us. Howard Bryant of ESPN Well said, Thanks so much. Thank you.

"Yacht here Molina the winner of the Roberto Clemente award the cardinals up for a host of awards this World Series week. I talked about it with Derek Gould Roberto Clemente award coming up tomorrow. Right. That's Tuesday that they're gonna announce that winter there at Fenway par. Then you have the Hank Aaron award. Now have a couple of candidates both of those awards got air Molina for the Clemente award and that carpenter for the Hank Aaron award. Then you have the gold glove. They're calling them finalists. And I'm always I always struggle with that with the use of the word finalists because it's not like there's another vote like. Yeah. They know who the winner is. These are just the top three vote-getters. We do the same thing with the Baseball Writers Association of America awards, which there will be the top three vote-getters revealed all at one fell swoop. And then over the course of the weeks following the first full week following the World Series will be the release of those four wards which are the MVP Cy Young rookie manager of the year award. And I think, you know, you're right hockey to me is the only one that can really, you know, kind of compare to baseball one of the reasons why is because the awards are so well known they they go by nicknames. You have more east Rashard Hart trophy Norris trophy, the lady bang, just like you have the Cy Young award right MVP's, a little different the MVP and baseball doesn't have the catchy nickname the rookie of the year award. Does it's the Jackie Robinson award in the NFL though. I'm not sure many people know that that they ought to. And you know, but these awards what what baseball and hockey both do is because of the nature of the awards, they connect generations. Right. Like, if I were to tell you, you know, Carl Yastrzemski won an MVP award Mickey Mantle won an MVP award. That would connect them to you know, Jose altuve who also want an American League MVP award, or, you know, just a more. No, or you know, any of the cow. You know, just the the great players through the years. I mean and also the cemetry of it like you think about Albert pools one three MVP awards with the cardinals museum. One three MVP awards with the cardinals. So you have this connection through history that really binds baseball beyond the long jeopardy of any other sports other than hockey. I think that's why they carry such significant. And I think that you can you can make the case this year that even if not adding a number of guys winning the cardinals could very well as you point out today on Twitter have a gold glove award winner, and Colton long and a couple of other deserving candidates. And then I think I think you'll have guys that garner votes. If not, you know, at least fifth place votes for the MVP with carpenter Cy Young potentially with Michael is rookie of the year. Flaherty invader gold. You mentioned gold glove manager of the year. Mike show could get awards. Could get votes. And then I mean miles Michael is certainly could be the comeback player of the year. I know no player has ever come from overseas and won that award. But you can make the case that they will have guys who who garner some votes, and and some significant votes in in those categories, I wouldn't be shocked if miles Michael Kitson Cy Young vote from somebody. Sure. Certainly, maybe. Yeah. Top five right? Yeah. So yeah, the ballots are five per se young three for manager three for rookie in forever. So you have a little bit of a space there. So yeah, you know, you could see how Michael's could fit into somebody's ballots there. And also, you know, you have a real interesting Cy Young vote with Jacob degrom who, you know, ten fifteen twenty years ago isn't getting sniffer the award because of how you know because of the kaleidoscope of statistics us back then versus now in sort of how focused and widespread some better statistics have become for that award. I'm saying with MVP. I mean, you you could I don't think it'd be out of the realm. If your Melissa Lena receive some down ballot. Yeah. Yeah. So it'd be interesting to see I don't know. You know, I I have an MVP this year. I think it's what my seven year six consecutive year with the MVP ballot. You know, it was it was it was a tricky one from the sense that there were so many candidates, and how do you pull from fifteen to get the ten in a way it's pretty similar to like a hall of fame votes. You have the same ten lines and you deal with. Okay. I got fifteen candidates who I think are belonging. So how do I rank them? Sinclair Lincoln at Ford's sports open line, a huge, thanks to John Kelly. Mike yo for behind the bench, Dan cats as well. Ben Boyd our executive producer, Mike Anderson. My guy here in the Kamli studios. One nothing Boston top for the third in game two of the World Series. We'll be back tomorrow for the blues and be Columbus. "The baseball front Janki is abandoned today are Li I told you before we went to break that Aaron judge. You did a kind of a seeing eye grounder down the right field. Lying coupla hopper. First base men playing way back off the bag and a roll down into the right field corner. Got a double. He was driven by Aaron Hicks. Whether they said thereafter. So it's now three nothing Yankees as go to the bullpen, and I don't necessarily disagree with Bob Melvin here. He feels the game potentially slipping away. He knows this is a big forum. Stanton came up afterward and got ahead. So the Yankees AB runners on second and third no out and are already up three nothing. He's bringing him Blake training who I told you had an unbelievable season this year Cy Young word the type season for the as I'll give is exact numbers sixty eight games this year. Trying eighty innings pitched forty six hits forty six eight thousand eight hundred eighty how good that is all by the way, walked twenty one. So is whip usually a good solid picture is going to be one to under one to somewhere between one one and one to if you're under one one, you're good. If you're under one year, outrageously good point zero point eight three was trying to whip this year his ERA again under one. Point seven eight and he saved thirty eight games for the as this year. Oh, by the way, he won nine while he was at it. That's absolutely Cy Young worthy him Blake trying to get Cy Young. You won't hear me complain. I think Blake's Nells should get sei-yung some people think get should be Chris sale. Other sage just number Orlando because he pitched as many innings these dead of all the top pitchers. He pitched more innings than anybody else. If they give it a try, and you only me complained because he had that great of season, and he's out here to try and shut the Yankees down at the end to this lead. It could be one that the as cannot overcome as we are in the bottom of the sixty Yankees already up three not with a chance. Dad, more eight five five two one two four two two seven phones. All our buck for Mojo's gonna give us the first buzzer tonight. Hey, buck. How are you doing good unique? God bless you. Thank you. You or years? Thanks for getting back. I forgive you. Cleveland band. I don't know if you like that. But I don't know. Why would I have a problem with the Cleveland fan? Well, no, you, you know, I don't know. I said something stupid. But now, I don't believe that. But anyway, yeah. I think you're going to pull this off and that'll be a good bosses series. But you know, what do you think about Baker mayfield's vertically around like him? He's going to be the ranch. I yes. Yes. Absolutely. Going back to the draft. I thought there was a new all know who the top five quarterback sworn. They all went in the first round. My order would have been Donald one Mayfield to Allen three. And then I don't really close between Jackson and Rosen. Some people at Rosen as the top ranked quarterback. I didn't I didn't mean I thought that people overrating him. I thought the top two in my mind were unquestionably darnold a Mayfield. And I thought they were close, and I was okay with it because I'm a jet guy. And I said, well, if they take Donald we'll get Mayfield that'd be fine day took Mayfield we got Donald even happier with it alum. I thought was the third bats. Then Jackson are Rosen. So I thought the top to where easily the top two. So you got one of the top two. I think you got yourself a franchise quarterback. Yes. I think the jets darnold. Darnold gonna be something special. I I do too easy coming back down a little bit after the unbelievable game that he had. I. Game against the Browns. Last three haven't been quite as good. But he's got he's got all the requisite skills. The only issue I'm having with Donnelley's days. And I said this last weekend here on CBS sports radio this weekend past weekend on CBS sports radio. Get up into line is not great and darnold as a tremendous capability for being able to make plays out of the pocket on the run creating space for himself when he feels the pass rush. He's gotten too comfortable with that. And no one digit offensive line is in great. It's almost like he's waiting for the pocket to break down on him. And he's running out before he even needs to run out. He's got some happy feet back there. And usually when he gets out of the pocket plays out of the pocket. But sometimes I just get the feeling every state in the pocket and drove the football. He could make some big time throws for them. That has not been what he's been doing. He's he's got happy feet. And that's something it's correctable and certainly with only get better. And it's only a matter of time. But I do have my concerns about him just short term because you've got the army's got he's got the leadership. He's got the moxie. He's got a lot of attributes you need to be a franchise quarterback in this league right now, he's got a little bit of Yip's because the jet line isn't protecting them the way that it's supposed to I dare. Ooh. Review here. Yankees opened up the lead a little bit in the American League's wildcard game. Go just drove in a couple of runs may have gotten the played. Oh, man. It's close diving play at the plate Luke Voight being tagged by Jonathan Luke, ROY. They called them save the play is under review. It's close. When I saw it live. I thought he was out then I thought one replayed. I go damn I think and I saw another replay. Now, I think he's out boys lucky to be on the way star that home run trot, Paul, and yeah, I should for those who aren't watching it like we are. Runners on second and third Lou point hit a opposite field high fly ball to right field that the as right field. Went back on jump. Tried to make a play. No Jeffrey, mayor issues for the Yankees here. The fan wise enough to let it land and it land literally two inches from the top of the fence. It is on the fence as you can possibly it and not habit bounce backwards into stance. So he just missed a home run. But he did he vowed he stood there and admired it at home plate. Now. The reason he was able to get dirty basis. My few mentioned he was lucky to be a third while because Giancarlo Stanton played correctly. There was a chance right? Feel good cut the cut the ball. So STAN was on second base. He didn't take off till after the ball came off the wall was actually relied pretty quickly by the right fielder. And they had a play home Stanton would save two. But it was closed and he was save. So that's why. He was able to avoid was able to get the third. He went to Jared on the throw. He never would have gotten third base if they didn't told her plate and he should have done play because they almost got Stanton there. We're sitting in waiting on a review as to whether Luke void is called safe at home plate. Even if he's out five not the Yankees in the bottom of the sixth. I doubt that it'll be part of the botany our CBS sports radio update. We're Marco Eddie..

I think if people want to be David price, you could go down in history. He's been very inconsistent this year. Jacob degrom going down in history. Ignominously? What did you call me? Ignominiously? Ignominiously Cy Young winner on the worst record. I I actually I just made up. I don't even know if the worst record, isn't it Felix Hernandez. Did he not the worst team record? He was thirteen and twelve and don't have the worst record ever for a Cy Young winner. Do they all I have no idea because the Phillies won fifty nine games? He caught and definitely want it that year yet. Yes. Boy, mclovin was close ignominious is that the word. Yeah. That's the word observing or causing public. Shame and disgrace ignominious. Yes, it's an ignominious Cy Young award. It's going to have an Asterix this ski. Asterisks? All right. We're gonna be talking about the Jacob degrom Cy Young year in twenty years. The Corey kluber years just Corey kluber sneak in and win that'd be his third Cy Young. Would this be Shire's fourth Cy Young? Yes. "Jacob degrom won the NL Cy Young award tonight. Eight more scoreless innings lowered is Ziara to one point seven. Oh, which is historically low in the live ball era. Add that to twenty nine consecutive starts three runs or less a single season major league record. And when you add that to the innings pitched and the walks and strikeouts. It's an amazing season. He will have the fewest wins of any starting pitcher ever to win the Cy Young award. But that will not matter. Not when you have any RA of one point seven. Oh, yeah. Take that Michael wilbon and those two pitchers are Felix Hernandez and Fernando Valenzuela both had thirteen wins when they on their Cy Young. So this would be by three. I would love it. I still have a feeling Scherzer's gonna win. No. I listen. I I watched wrong with you. I want the ground or win it. But I have a feeling Scherzer's going to win it. But man, would that be something with a ten and nine record? This truly be even more obviously than all time of saying wins aren't as important as some of the other things that these pictures can do in. That is obvious. Our faith was tested and shaking. And now it's been rewarded by Tim Kirsch, like trace it. I often said I wanna see baseball through the if you could see the world through the eyes of a child, I wanna see baseball through the eyes of Tim Kirch in and through his eyes to Crohn's win the Cy Young swamp. Rockaway listen when you're asking me to side with someone I'll go with the guy who wears a shirt to the beach. It's at six plus four plus three to six point three. That's our that's our man TIMMY, so I am riding the Kirk train all the way here it. Oh. By the way. Once again, he did it again twenty four th straight consecutive start quality start three in three earned runs less. He gave up no runs. And I think it's now twenty eight over the. The last two seasons. Jacob degrom, congratulations. We're gonna make a Cy Young. If he doesn't win one. We're gonna make it. We're going to give him the unofficial would give the young award from us. We'll say he had an era of one sixty six which is lower than what to Graham has in two thousand fifteen and he did not win. But did he have twenty eight consecutive starts three earned runs or less? I think twenty nine so now he did he might have had twenty eight hundred. Saying didn't have twenty nine twenty nine. That's a that's even better take that again. All right. We're continuing with what's trending with this. "But I just wonder if Mike wilpon happened to be listening to go and win go yesterday when we made the point that we were interested in throwing our collective way to show behind Jacob degrom Cy Young campaign Jacob degrom who's at an ERA around one point, one eight for a while now has been pitching great despite having a record under five hundred largely because he can't get bailed out with any runs the port by the rest of the Mets who have floundered and relative mediocrity for the majority of the season in a way that Mets fans are pretty used to at this point become the norm. And so we decided to talk Jake degrom as we have for a while now because it's it's it's an emotionally difficult place because baseball is such a unique sport where you can go out and play well because of the nature of the sport because of how matchup driven it is because pitchers and batters comes down to those simple things Jacob degrom even though he was five for his last eight behind the plate, can't hit enough to give himself all the runs import, then he needs and certainly can't play defense behind him in any way. He can only do so much and what he's able to control. He controls better than anyone when it comes to this particular stat. And now max Scherzer still guy that I think most people would put in front of degrom at this point and he's got the wind total. Certainly back it up, but we decided, you know, he was our guy. We're gonna go degrom for Cy Young. That was something that we did listening later in the day to PTI listening to. I think it was Frank Solon with my job and they were talking about Jacob degrom Cy Young campaign this is will will had to say, win the game. I don't care what the area is when you add them up at the end, you know the cubs probably had some Cy Young award winning ERA champions in that hundred year plus year period. And if somebody said, I'll trade that for the wins that get me a World Series. What would you do? If the answer is anything other than take the wins, then it's fraudulent. Then I resigned from following sports, win the dam pike. My. He doesn't get any run support. It's at three point. Six runs again. You've gotta. Hey, seventies only hang tough. Only starters bass don't allow to hang his ERA is one point five strikeouts one hundred ninety four innings. Right frankly, this is a tyranny of statistics. Now there's some just Frank. There's some nice you gotta do a better job. We gotta give up nothing or one. 'cause your guys aren't hitting the mother nights where you're gonna break and you can win a six five game. "This gentleman has been with us. So all you're wrong. It's a lot of fun to have him on your rights for the athletic. He lives here in the bay area. Owen poindexter? How are you? Money. Pretty good today. And I kind of having fun. Joe Sheehan is one of my favorites had him on earlier. You familiar with Joe serious stuff? Yeah. Yeah. We kicked around. I guess maybe talk to the First Baptist Cy Young stuff. We had this debate on our podcast the other day of the winds. How important is it? For degrom vis-a-vis. Sherzer Nola Kershaw. The Graham is that so many amazing things on the man this year. But he plays for a team. That is not in pressure games every day. He takes the ball as opposed to the other two where do you stand on this one you understand the analytics pitching? So how do you? How do you see the National League Cy Young race? Sure. Yeah. I should say actually grew up Mets fan and. No pressure games would be an understatement for for them this year. Yeah. I come down on the ground died. I gave up on the wind set a long time ago. And honestly, I think it's hung around as long as because it's called the win. If we called it the left with the lead or the, you know, the team didn't give up the lead after I I left the game staff. You know, we wouldn't treat it with the same reverence. And so I think is just had such a unique season. You could call it one of the best seasons in the modern era. And I love sherzer Nola is a real star. I think he's going to be a Cy Young contender for many years. But I think this is the year, and you know, you can't one you can control the the teammates around you and how many runs they scored. But also the grams done. Yeah. You had a just an amazing set of games know, whether or not the team actually wins. But so many of those games. Mets don't even score. They score one or two runs and just kind of sad running joke with them about how you know pitches. Eight innings one run and he gets the loss because the team didn't score for him. I feel like the Cy Young should be about who was the best pitcher. And I think the ground was the best pitcher, even if you know, we we didn't see him in high pressure situations. I feel like you can only judge would would actually happen on the field and. You know, if you wanna give it make it a tiebreaker kind of thing where you know, chasers. Or no leather fighting Nola nuts. Much jersey fighting for the division. Okay. Yeah. I I can say that those games mattered more. But I would take out of the tiebreaker. I don't think we need to tie breaker. I think just in that good. Okay. Very well said very well said what do you think's going to happen? Because the writers do vote on it and many adopt the analytical approach, which we saw Felix Hernandez getting it was Seattle. What do you think's gonna happen? Rum's din. Does have a little bit of a margin against those guys. Just in terms of the numbers, you know, strike out. I think is going to win it for him. It was close. I did Nola because Nola has been incredible and his team on the division. And it does feel a little weird to give. The prestigious award to a guy in a team that is just kinda sad mess right now. But I think because he's got that ERA under two that's going to be too hard to ignore it. Graham takes it over Nola. Very good. Very good. I as you know, you heard our podcast, we Carmen was almost going to strangle me, I think. On one of these arguments. But yeah, I think I think I did come around to the Graham. I think my final answer was final answer. It sounds like one of the quiz shows. My final was the Graham gets it. Because of the incredible he's had in the record that he's broken of of Disney twenty four twenty five starts, whatever it is three runs or less than that puts them in a different category for me. So I think I had him. I know a second insures third when it was all said and done, I think, that's I think that's my order to. Yeah. I thought shares are gonna win it just because he's he's the guy. I think of as the best pitcher in baseball now feel like he's taking from Kershaw, but but it's hard to investiture in baseball. And when you might not even be the best pitcher in the National League. So it'll be interesting to see next year. I feel like it's no just Kershaw and everyone else rely our shows like it's about five guys in there. Yeah. Now, the American League Owen Poindexter whether. Us. And of course, it's always just a good to talk ball with the in September very exciting month Blake Snell of Tampa Bay, and nobody talks about Blake's now. But of course, I again, I know, you know, the numbers on him earned run averages just a tick above two and you look at kluber sale and Burland and all these people have had to win a game. I take this guy. Yeah. It's been amazing. He's you know, he's someone who I kind of forgot about. I'm you just one of these rays pitchers that, you know, showed some promise, but, you know, not someone you think of certainly not one of the best pitchers in the league. Not even someone Alabama excited to have on your team this year. He has come alive. He's just striking everyone out. And if the the AL has a bunch of these pictures sale, I guess would be the the big one. But Jared Cole all of a sudden is just you know, strike at machine Burland kinda rediscovered his magic last year. Yes. No. I don't have any great explanations for but. Yeah. Yeah. That year just over two is pretty amazing. And you know, I was just kind of railing against the context of the rest of the team Snell actually has a very unique role in that he's pretty much the only starting pitcher left on the raise. And so they really count on him to soak up some innings because almost every other game the bullpen game or starts with an opener or something like that. And now that they've created Archer and. You'll all day. It's kind of just Cam glad no now. And so he he'll build up a few in English, but not the only guy in there. So for him. I would also. Yeah. I think sale is just had such a dominant season. I'd still probably go with him for the Cy Young. But, but yeah, you can make a case personnel. And I think you can include some team contacts there. Yeah. I do. I think he is the only guy for Tampa Bay. And I think that puts some pressure on him as well. Last thought before we talk a little bit about the giants here. JD Martinez as Bruce Jenkins just told us he's got a chance at a triple crown not only of the American League, but all of baseball and Bruce said, I think you gotta go back to mantle to find someone who who led all three categories of both leagues and athletes. Yeah. How about JD Martinez? What do you think about? And he is the guy. He's the first guy. I think of when I think of the launch angle revolution has come to be known because he was kind of this. You know, he had some power. But you seemed like one of those guys at all he's got is power and not much else. And and then, yeah, he's figured out a new swing and there was a couple of years or people didn't quite believe it. But but now, he's she's just a true monster. And yeah, I heard you saying that's the guy who it'd be nice to have on the giants. It is funny how he did linger out there. I think you know, it doesn't contribute too much on defense. But the yeah, the fact that he can have that power. That's a rare thing especially in today's game have power and that level of contact ability. Even pitch to that guy. And the the problem for pitchers is that you know, you you pitch around him. Then you've got the rest of that Boston lineup with. It's not like there are too many places to hide there anyway. But yeah, he's he's got him. Now, he's thirty one. But he's gotten better every year for the last few years, and and that's a rare thing, and it's just cool to see that. This wasn't just a one year flashing the and not only is he kept his games from from launch angle going up, but it has gotten better every year. And yeah, he was kind of lingering around three hundred before. But now he's at three thirty five and he's a really special header guarantee. His exit velocity is is enormous. But I think one of the top of guarantee a very good. All right. Oh, and let's let's turn our attention a little bit to the giants here. Looks like Crawford's going to be shut down you. And I talked about him the last time you're on and he's chasing pitches on the outside part of the plate again. And so it really has not happened for him since June in the middle of June belt, we talked about making all that soft contact. But what do you see pitching wise because let's face it this timber Allan this still in their Suarez Rodriguez. I believe in Rodriguez. I've come around these even though in fifteen starts I've seen enough of the arm and the ability to pitch to believe in. And then we got Stratton today who's come back really this. Last three starts hasn't walked anybody in his twelve strikeouts. And few runs given up in twenty innings. I think three runs given up. So how do you see the giants right now? What what stands out to you? So yeah, Stratton has been a nice little surprise. Obviously. He had that great line in the beginning of the year. And then thinking Paul part of it for him. When he's eating really. Well, he doesn't give up a lot of home runs. I was just looking at this in those last three starts. He's been pretty good at keeping the ball down in his own doesn't get hurt too much there. And because he's not walking anyone if you're not walking anyone you're not giving up too many home runs. Okay. You maybe you know, the other team will string a few hits together every once in a while. But it's not like he's giving up a ton of hits either. So he's he's a nice little pitcher. You know, when he's done he's not a huge strike out guy. So there will be some innings when when the other team manages to to you know, put a few runs on him. But, but yeah, it's been nice to see him come back. And I remember in that I stretch of the season. I think he went five starts without giving up a home run. They couldn't really find any reason why that would continue and it didn't. But this seems like something he's able to do at least for stretches here and there, and I think the key for him is to keep the ball down and not keeping it out of the middle. 'cause you know, you look at where you get the power where everyone else gives our middle middle and around the zone. But if you can keep it down and kind of nibble at the corners when he's able to do that. He's a pretty effective pitcher wouldn't expect him to be the ace of the staff or anything. But I think he can be a pretty good number three type. And yeah, go ahead. And when I see with him is his command within the strike zone. That he's low low in low out up in the middle anymore because his oh PS. Remember, I think it was oh PS probably against lefties. I forget against lefties like eight fifteen and you know, he was getting hit hard. But these he's he's limited the hard contact now because he's got better command. Yeah. Yeah. And if you if you can put it where he want to that is half the battle. We underestimate how hard it is to just hit the corner zone. You can do that consistently. That's pretty hard for you know, most haters, the haven't one part of his own where they're not so good and took you actually know where you're throwing the ball that you can be a pretty decent pitcher, even if you're not blowing away anything. Good anything. Good on the giants front. Well, not so much on the offense that has been lacklustre to say the least Derek holiday..

They throttle down and the only team that has it. It didn't work for the warriors. They kept it. They got the record and then didn't win the championship. So I don't see there being a whole lot of incentive once Boston clinches a week. What's next? Last one toss up, which player is Dwight Howard more likely to evolve into Anthony Davis or Kevin Durant? All right, this this story is slightly absurd because Howard's trainer has said that Howard, you know he has a master plan and has to evolve his game over really involves game. And you look at guys like AD and Katie who are about the same height and he can evolve his game and white credits. This is not the same NBA with Shaq. And the big mastodons who down low is not just about muscle. The problem is to white Howard can't do that. That's not a skill sieve, Frank, is it? No, it's not. And you know what? Eight years ago he should've tried to evolve into a chemo lodge. One, you're going to tell me that he's going to cross over like Kevin Durant and hit a pull up jumper over LeBron James, maybe closer to Anthony Davis given credit for trying to evolve with today's no men in the NBA, but I don't see it happen at this stage that lasts toss up is simply decided by, Nope, it can still average twelve and a half rebounds a game, the White House. But he ain't dudes or either. One of that's Antica free, throw. Let's take one last break. Don't get carried away. The Broncos VO Paxton Lynch, and third string, John Elway going to own this disappointment and Sam darnold gets high praise from an unexpected source. We'll tell you who up next, how thin lane do what you do. Ours. I hate option is brought to you by innovating and power..

"'cause you, you're right. You can't not go to your bullpen for two whole months. That's not Michael. By the way you mentioned Machado. He and Matt Kemp in the month of August zero home runs to RBI's in both of those are. So Machado has not done anything since moving halfway through August two CJ McCollum was podcasts keep producing news, Frank, I, it was Kevin Durant now is Jalen Brown who said recently on their podcast. He's certain his Celtics will be in the NBA finals. Conju specifically Brown quote, oh, we're getting to the finals. No question about it. Close quote, Frank, given the Celtics, push LeBron seven games in may and he's gone to the west. Do you have any problem with Brown's analysis or is confidence? I like it a lot. I do think that Danny aines and Brad Stevens probably don't like it. That's not really the Celtic way, but he's only giving you the truth there LeBron James is dominated the Eastern Conference for eight straight years. He's gone and the Celtics who've made it two consecutive Eastern Conference championships only lose two LeBron they should have a healthy career ING. They should have a healthy Gordon Hayward. If you look at the east, I think that Toronto could be pretty good as they do have Leonard. And you know, I think if healthy, he should have a dominant season, but look at the east right now, the Celtics, they are absolutely the class of that conference. Yeah, Frank, I have. No, I have no problem with him even expressing it. I mean, part of this considering the person Jalen Brown is not some guy just colors outside the lines all the time and goes up shooting his mouth. I mean to me beyond well-spoken, just will thought out when you have conversations with him. He may be saying that with the intention of his teammates here to say, look, we need. We want to get off to a great camp, a great start it. We're going to dominate the washing. Nationals dominating division. The Celtics dominated division and a conference this year. I think the Sixers might be a candidate to take a little backslide a little bit of one. Even though they'll still probably be the second or third top three team in the east and Toronto. Like you said, I don't. I don't know what to make the wizards and and the moves that they've tried to make, but the Celtics ought to be the class of that. And by the way they've had guys over the years, Larry Bird notably who weren't afraid of expressing a little confident and Mike, this is why Kawai Leonard. He wanted to get out of San Antonio. I understand he wants to go to LA in Toronto in the east. You have a chance to dominate the Eastern Conference because you don't have LeBron you really have to worry about one team, which is Boston. That's why it made sense for him to go to the east. You can make the case. He's the best player in the conference. Celtics are the best team who is the best player. All right. Let's take a break but coming up. Andrew luck and Carson Wentz both battling back from major injuries who should we expect more from. And what is more likely to happen next year? Tigar winds. One major Brooks kept gets two of them. Yeah, two majors the second time. Let's get the list. Young though. The interruption is brought to you by Applebee's to go. Ellie's mom news. She had a strong kick even back in the womb and from then on Allie was always kicking a ball and saying she was going to play pro soccer. And one day she was kicking a ball against a wall. Her skills drew even more attention. Her boss said. Could you please stop that and gave me this quarterly numbers. I asked for turns out allergist wasn't that good at Tucker, but she was a good accountant. That's why she switched to gyco. She knew they could save a bunch of.

"It's now blown three game three of the last four games. By the way, this is something that's going to fall on the manager, the rookie manager, Dave Martinez, they have lost twenty one games decided by one run and a lot of that's gonna come on him, especially for team that we all thought would dominate the division. Not all some of us did. Yes. Speaking about bad bullpens dodgers. Bullpen imploded again, this time allowing four runs with two outs in the ninth inning against the giants with closer kenley Jansen on the disabled list with regular heartbeat. The dodgers bullpen has lost four straight games. Clayton Kershaw was cruising in this game. He had given up one run on four hits over eight innings at Dave Roberts pulled him under the circumstances. Might the manager make the right move here we got to consider a lot of circumstances in part of this will go back to story. We talked about a minute ago and that is a plate Kershaw for the first hundred and thirty years of major league baseball had one hundred ten pitches was going the way he's going being the horse that he is you the left him in. But now with all the pitch count mania, they're going to get him out of there after one, ten because they don't want him damage. Any has had some late sum in season deal issues in the past recent past. So I the. The full context. I guess you can't do it anymore. But I look again, people like Gibson and Jenkins just some stats. I happen to look up where one of them had two hundred and fifty five complete games in a career. The other would have two hundred sixty seven complete games, but they don't do that. So what circumstances are you talking about? Well, first of all, I'm not. I'm leaving Kershaw. I'm going to take him out of the game. I should say, like you mentioned hundred ten pitches. That's enough. At some point, the bullpen has to get the job done. Here's a problem with the dodgers syncing all-star break. Eleven thirteen. In the bullpens your rate is four point eight. Oh, that's not going to, here's a team that's won the division five straight years. That is definitely in jeopardy. Big part of it is going to be Jansen who last night showed up at the stadium. He said that he thinks he's going to pitch again. And then he also said he thinks he's going to have to have heart surgery like he had back in twenty twelve. So this is a real scary situation. But he has thirty two saves that's tied for the National League lead. If he doesn't come back this season, I don't think they're going to be a playoff team because to get in, they're going to have to win the division. I don't think they're gonna win the wild card right now. They're two and a half games out, but they have to jump over multiple teams which makes it a lot harder. You don't think they manipulate the bullpen the way they did last year when Brandon morals there. He's on a deal, but with the cubs and also many Machado hasn't. It's It's like. like he has hosted. It's like he's still hasn't reported to LA after the trade from Baltin. He's got a lot of issues, Frank, but I, I don't know. I gotta trust Kershaw. I'm might go out there and say, played, what do you wanna do hundred ten pitches here..

"Pardon the interruption, but I'm Mike wilpon. You've been hosting multiple shows day this week break. Are you holding up. I'm soul on. Great. Which one is this? Let's see. This is the one where there's a guy and his dad and they're in the kitchen. No, two years ago. No, Not not that. that. Behind me. That's all that. On threes are good friend. I can't teach you that all year long. All you. Welcome to PTI. Gordon is out damaging golf course somewhere today. Do. I am very fortunate to be joined by our great friend. Frank is Sola. Yeah, the overwork Frank guy. Sola, we begin in an unlikely place with the Chicago Bears. Finally joining the other thirty one NFL teams by signing their number one draft pick Georgia linebacker roquan Smith. The four year deal for eighteen million dollars was never really in doubt. It was the contract language that could've put some miss guaranteed money in jeopardy. The two sides elder ground until last night when either somebody gave in or a compromise was reached Frank. What do you think this kid for battling this law? You know what? This is actually a hold out and it was twenty nine days long that I could get behind. Here's someone who doesn't have a history of onfield issues, whether it's a legal hits fighting with opponents, arguing with referees, and that's the language he wanted. Didn't want an his contract. This was about principle for him, and I think that rookies coming into the league, they're gonna use this as a template and look at what Smith did and his agents did as well. Why. I should. He lose money on something like a helmet to helmet hit when the referees aren't really sure about the rule, the Briars aren't. It's football, you're going out there making plays. Now you're gonna take money away from him in case he is suspended for one of those. I like what he did here. It's a bad look for my football team. My Chicago Bears a really bad. Look. We're going to take advantage of a situation. We're going to take advantage of new context and perhaps take your guaranteed money away. And I know there are players currently on the bears who say that the bears have been great about this, and they weren't seeking to take any guaranteed money away, but he's players for his own situation. Right. And if you want to guarantee you can't Russ any football team. They can do anything they what with most contracts because they're not guaranteed. And so most of your money is not guaranteed with the exception of some fabulously famous football quarterbacks, so good for roquan Smith and he did this now. I don't care the missed one preseason game. Because I think this is about three weeks and they play an extra preseason games, actresses he can be ready. The bears need him on the field and then gonna get over whatever bad feelings. There were what's interesting about roquan Smith. He's a guy that reads the fine print because when he was going into college, he verbally committed to CLA and they told him sign your letter of intent. And I'm not gonna do that. The coach set recruited him left. Guess what hate it. He never signed that letter of intent with UCLA. He ended up in Georgia, so this is a guy that takes ownership of his career. I give him credit like I said, his agencies are some credit. My going to law school either while he's in the NFL or after he should. All right. Jacob. Degrom sei-yung bid is gaining momentum after beating the Yankees. Monday night in the Bronx two grams record is seven and seven, but is ERA is a major league low of one point. Eight one to grab could become the first pitcher in a hundred years to finish with an ERA of below two runs and without a winning record. His manager. Mickey Calloway said that right now, the Cy Young award is to grabs to lose Mike. I know you're big on wins. Do you agree with the manager of the Mets here? Hell no, because I'm blind wins win the game, Frank win the game. I don't care what the area is when you add them up at the end, you know the cubs probably had some Cy Young award winning ERA champions in that hundred year plus year period..

"The, six time all star and Cy Young award winner is having. By far, the worst season of his career and his most recent struggles. Have. Seen his, ERA surge, to shocking five point seven three. And is unclear what his bullpen role will now be factor fiction king Felix has a last hurrah in him, as a useful, bullpen piece for a contending team in a playoff jas I want to say yes but I'm gonna say no his you know his velocity is not what you know what Now I just. Don't. See it I think Felix. It's amazing he's not even, that, old I, mean he's thirty two thirty three thirty two But the velocities down and that's gonna be a tough adjustment I mean the guy. Has never pitched out of the pen he's made, three hundred ninety eight major league. Appearances since the age of nineteen of two thousand five I think even though he's young still somewhat young. He started when he was nineteen he never. Missed any time until. About it from two thousand six through two thousand fifteen. For ten years he made at least thirty starts. Every year. Never missed any time and in two. Thousand sixteen he missed a little time last year he missed more about half the. Season this year he's been healthy for the. Most part he's just been ineffective. And he's been trending this way for a couple of years he was not good in two thousand sixteen. He was worse. Than twenty seventeen he's been horrible this year, in the numbers have. Been trending bad since really. Since four even twenty fifteen. He wasn't great but if. You look deeper into the numbers so he's been Trending this way for a while I do not. Think I know. A lot of guys go to the pen, and do well I just don't see it after nearly, four hundred major league starts that he's going to do that I don't think so now, our for though because I like Felix but I don't think it's gonna happen Astros as.
