Seahawks Middle linebacker Bobby Wagner notices Murray running with more of a purpose this season. Honestly, I think is the confidence I think when he first got into the you watched him On on a film when he was making the runs. He was just kind of run out of bounds Post Seattle Starting corners Quinton Dunbar and Shaquille Griffin did not practice Tuesday because of injuries. "Dominic. It is eleven twenty seven pm eastern. And i m almost done tattooing. Cuyler murray's name using a ballpoint pen across my chest. Go forward i'm with you. Want me wait why you finish your being supportive in a way. That bill barnwell. Why usually talk do right now. Isn't i think like he would be reasonable and discourage me from doing this. But you're a far less responsible character. It feels. I'm here for a good time now longtime just today's episode so i'm fumbled fox ready for sublime tattoo it. Let's have some drinks. Whatever you wanna do. Pablo dominique. Foxworth is a writer and commentator for. Espn he played seven seasons in the nfl at defensive back and he's espn dailies. fun uncle. Well what i wanted to do before we get hammered together is talk to you about this play. That is inspired all of this ink to be spill both across my chest and across the country. Because i think it's the play of the year. I think what we saw in this bills. Cardinals game is the play of the year. And it's worth noting for posterity that the bills had just one said gave right before it happened. Josh allen had thrown. I think the pass of his life to step on digs putting buffalo thirty to twenty six with just thirty nine seconds left. The snap man looks to his left. Choirs left side. Then go to the point steph. Both touchdowns catches a touchdown pass from josh allen. What cuyler murray then does rolling left. Let's hit pause as his bomb is launched from midfield in his dangling in the air. Because you are a cornerback in your blood in your soul. How do you even approach defending this sort of a play as db well. They did it wrong. Obviously they were all going for the ball which you don't necessarily want to do in that situation and trae white one of the best corn illegal that he was trying to catch it which any coastal tell you. Bet it down. So everyone's out there trying to pad their stats in the thing that i would normally do. Not ideology happens as a particularly big receivers but tall receivers will jump well over the arms can't catch a bomb like that with one hand if you do best one for you. So that's what they did wrong going for the ball in also trying to patch stats with an interception i. I was particularly happy towards the end of that game because on get up last week. I said that stefan digs is unstoppable. Man coverage way. You shut down passing offenses in this league. We all know it. It's tight man coverage you can't do that. Against stefan digs. He has been created the most explosive plays of any receiver in this league against man coverage. So he caught the game winning touchdown man coverage also said in that same segment the andrea hopkins is the best contested cats receiver in the league. He's one of the top receivers in a league in winning contestant catches so he can get open but the scary part about him is. It doesn't matter you put it anywhere his entity even if you're close to them you're buying he might bring it down and embarrassed boom so win for me. How about that back to back dubbed up.

"Receiving the past. It's a 22 yard strike from Nick Mullins. And falling down with the defender on his back. A big catch by you has the Niners in the red Zone, stabbing from the 18 Mullins trying to gun it left side That's bad it down the line of scrimmage again. Incredible athletic play by argue Started out this game with a touchdown on the first drive, but a little quiet ever since the man that was awesome catch and I still think we have big kid. Big things to come from Brandon, are you There's a reason the Niners moved up in the draft to get him in the first round. He is a playmaker. Those were going to go down to seconds remaining in the ballgame, and Tyler Murray has taken any with Arizona up by 2 to 32 to go in this one. James in motion stops in the slot left side, Mullen States the shotgun snap on 2nd 10 throwing for the end zone left side. It is intercepted by the Saints. It's Patrick Robinson two yards into the end zone. Intended receiver was Kendrick born and another takeaway for the New Orleans Saints, who conceal this thing up here shortly, perhaps with just 2 25 remaining leading by two scores. We wanted to give born a chance to make a play in the end zone. Really good defense. That time By Patrick Robinson. Great position on Kendrick, born Ball is probably throwing a little bit short of where born wanted it more in the back of the end zone. It was a stop and go route. This kind of situation DBS or play a little bit soft or not quite as willing to bite on those first initial stops they knew receives. We're trying to get to the end zone and really good read that time and a great play. Born much bigger than Robinson, but used his body to get position and get the interception. He got pulled down by his helmet to buy born assumes he made the catch on the interception. Weren't wrapped his arms around. Robinson's helmet pulled him out of the air into the ground. Winston backing a quarterback for the Saints. Hands it off. It will be a I'll be the final play heading for the two minute warning. Although the Niners might take their final time out, we'll see. Get it. Taking their final time out up in playing to 17. So Arizona has knocked off Buffalo at home. Cuyler Murray, a Hail Mary to DeAndre Hopkins for the go ahead score with three bills.

As Pandemic Hits Colleges' Finances, Small Town May Be Affected Too

"Has been devastating college finances and some of them are even on the brink of closing. What does that mean for college towns? Frank Morris of member Station has this look. Att one rural college community. Lots of towns across rule. America are in steep decline, but tiny Sterling Kansas is an island of vitality. Ah, pleasant Tuesday evening, a local gospel quintet entertains folks spread out on lawn chairs in a large tidal park. This town is anchored by Sterling College, a private evangelical Christian school, founded in 18 87. College senior Cuyler calmly calls it one big partnership. There's just so much overlap in community supports the college to college supports the community. You know, you just see how everything's intertwined. This remote town of 2200 boasts good schools, white collar jobs and a healthy downtown. College students, faculty and staff breathed life into the place, same as they do for hundreds of other little college towns across the country. But students left here in March and they haven't come back. Criminal justice Professor Mark Tremain is worried. I think the bottom line is we've got to get students back to campus. If we're going to survive. I think we have to accept whatever the risks are and do it. Starting college depends on about 500 students paying up to $26,000 a year tuition and another eight or nine grand for room and board. Sterling College President Scott Rich says the school like many others, scrapes by from year to year. We're always dependent upon enrollment always depended upon that next year, always dependent upon persistence or retention. We have to get students to come back. And we're dealing with a lot of challenges. Most schools now face daunting decisions. Scott Carlson follows the rolling crisis for the Chronicle of Higher Education. I think some of the people I know are looking at hundreds of college is going out of business within the next several years if this pandemic continues, and if the economic devastation associated with it continues, small liberal arts colleges have been shaky. For years, Enrollments have slumped down mints have been tapped. Many schools have piled on debt in a building fueled by competition for students. Most offer classes online, but online classes don't pay the bills. Most small schools survived by providing an expensive high touch in person College experience, and Carlson says the pandemic is shredding that business model. These colleges are Unique little entities all on their own, and each one of them provides a unique spin on higher education At Sterling College. The foundation is Christianity, but football is came. Workers here putting the final touches on a big Jim classroom in office complex. Many students enroll here for the chance to play college sports. It's a major selling point. About 1/4 of the students attending in person are on the football team. That's right 1/4 but sporting events could be major vectors for disease. And Jed Miller, who's finishing his degree it's early online next year, says That's another vulnerability. If Cove it defeats the athletics season this year. It will probably defeat a lot of small colleges and as a result heard a lot of small towns. Badly. While small college towns tend to be some of the healthiest communities in remote rural areas, the colleges those towns depend on now pose a physical danger to residence. Christina Darn hours a family practice doctor in sterling, the college probably is the most dangerous. Element for us in terms of covert. Shit. Potentially brings back students from all over the US who have variable levels of exposure across the country. Small colleges and college towns faced the same dilemma over opening, but not everyone thinks that's all bad. Richard Price at the Clayton Christians and Institute argues that the pandemic will lead to better online classes and more equitable schools. The traditional model. It was originally for the landed elite. And it wasn't sure all genders. It wasn't for all races, and that is slowly getting phased out. Along with some older business models that aren't fitting well, and price thinks many small colleges will adapt. Lots of them have cheated death before. There's no question the pandemic will close a number of American colleges and unravel small college towns along the way for NPR news. I'm Frank Morris.

The Racial Justice Reckoning Over Sports Team Names Is Spreading

"Trump Trump weighed weighed in in this this week week on on the the Washington Washington NFL NFL team team and and the the Cleveland Cleveland Indians Indians baseball baseball team. team. Considering Considering changing changing their their names, names, names that native Americans have long said are racist. Both franchises announced they're reviewing their names and changes maybe coming before. 2020 NFL and Major League Baseball season's begin perspectives producer ABC is Eric Mollo has more with America In the midst of a reckoning over racial inequality. More athletes are continuing to speak out across the sports world. By noon, Stanford was right. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Cuyler Murray announcing he'll be taking any during the playing of the national anthem this year, one of several players pledging to stand in solidarity with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who knelt during the playing of the national anthem to protest police brutality and social injustice. Erica. Over the past week, There's been another reckoning in sports, whether to change team names or logos that contain Native American emblems. In stereotypes. There is time to Move for Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians announced they're considering changing the team's name manager Terry Francona feels now is an appropriate time for change Older. We're never trying to be disrespectful. I still feel that way, but I don't think that's a good enough answer. Today. The announcement comes a little over a year after Cleveland removed its chief Wahoo logo, a cartoonish caricature of a native American man long considered racist. It also came shortly after the announcement at Washington's NFL franchises weighing whether to change its team name, which is widely regarded as a racial slur. Julian Brave Noise Cat contributes to ESPN is the undefeated He writes that the team name references Native American skin color. In the bloody scouts of indigenous People taken his bounty by white colonists. If a group of people are speaking out about the racism of a team logo, it's It's quite the thing to go and claim that actually know you are honoring them, and it's hard for me to imagine the same thing happening for another racial group in the United States. Team owner Dan Snyder has bound for years. He never changed the name. Saying the term actually embodies honor, respect and pride. Protesters and advocacy groups have called for change for decades. But on ly in the face of mounting economic pressure did Snyder finally announced they're reconsidering investors with major sponsors from Pepsi. FedEx in Nike sent letters asking the companies to terminate their relationship with Washington unless it agreed to a name change, which you know kind of exciting on the one hand, but the reality it reveals about the power of capital. In our culture and society is a little bit of a downer for me. But those two franchises don't stand alone. A world without native mascots is the ideal world. Nick Marin is a member of this a pony tribe in a staff writer for the New Republic any kind of imagery like that and specifically as it relates to native people, because we have been made invisible, forcibly the idea that we would You get rid of the walking Jim NFL team and keep the Kansas City Chiefs It speaks a certain hollowness that I think this kind of corporate social justice campaigns often involve the Kansas City Chiefs. Atlanta Braves in Chicago Blackhawks are among professional franchises that continue to employ Native American imagery on their jerseys in their team names and in cheers by fans has become a very normalized thing, which I think is common place with a lot of systems and forms of institution. Oppression. These things we don't think of them in the moment as being particularly egregious because they've become so normalized in society. Those franchises aren't following the lead of Washington in Cleveland. None of them announce name changes, though Atlanta is reportedly considering no longer allowing the Tomahawk chop chance at games, and the Blackhawks went on to say that their team name and logo symbolizes an important native American figure. And they aren't moving toward formal change. It reduces you to a caricature there, 570 plus tribal nations. That's 570 plus tribal cultures. Any kind of idea that, like there is one kind of Indian is very reductionist kind of view of US. President Trump even weighed in this week via Twitter, saying the names of Washington's in Cleveland's teams Signify strength and not weakness, and they're merely considering the change to be politically correct. The president's statement in the very decisions of these franchises do raise questions isn't important to distinguish between the offensiveness of each individual team name, and is any of this iconography, actually honor or respect the Native Americans? Or in same team names and logos on our native people. Is that merely perpetuating cultural appropriation and the use of stereotypical Native American imagery, Martin says. It's not that slippery of a slope. If you're saying our mascot, our team name is not as racist as Washington NFL team still an admission that it is races, Washington's head coach, Ron Rivera, who is one of four minority head coaches in the NFL, told The Washington Post. It would be awesome if the team changed its name. In the National Congress of American Indians have long opposed the use of Native American stereotypical imagery in professional sports. As professional sports franchises are choosing to reexamine these issues in the midst of America's reckoning over race relations, they're faced with a new choice. Well, economic pressures determine if they choose to rename their teams or will they listen to decades long calls from Native American advocacy groups to eliminate the use of these emblems of the only reasons happening so swiftly is because their this is something that native people years of ground Work into and so what this moment kind of larger cultural reckoning has become. It's just kind of an impetus to say Okay, Now is the time to finally get rid of these things.

Super Bowl LIV Preview

"Today ahead of Super Bowl. Fifty four we break down just what to expect when the Chiesa. He's the niners square off on Sunday. I mean at times it's Thursday January thirtieth this espn daily presented by Dell small business. We are on radio row right now. ESPN daily is in the back There are radio stations across America. ESPN shows everyone is at their booths. Interviewing players analysts celebrities stars. And we've got one here with us. Dominic foxworth radio row is madness. It always ban is but it's like three hundred people gets bigger and his crazier every year. Well Luke speaking of madness this game people having trouble picking the winner I think because it truly feels like the two best teams made it to the Super Bowl. I feel like I'm just GONNA. It was Patrick Mahomes. Because it's not GonNa be fun rooting against him. We'll be more fun rooting for him than against it. Let's start by talking about patching mahomes chiefs offense versus the San Francisco Forty Forty niners defense. Which is sort of the strength on strength matchup in this game? I think history would favor San Francisco because the recent super bowls elite defenses. Have come out on top. The two thousand fifteen Denver Broncos the two thousand thirteen Seattle seahawks. We don't need to talk about what happened near later. The two thousand eight steelers ninety six packers list goes on typically offense loses according to our friends at stats and Info so the niners are the sevens team in the last fifteen years to make it to the super bowl with fifty five or more sex the other six teams all won dominique. We've seen how disruptive active this pass rushes the secondary ranks near the top of the League in stopping deep passing as the linebackers fast they can move laterally. Which is the chiefs specialty with their sweeps and screens? And all that said tell me how the chiefs offense can still beat them. I mean I have never seen the chiefs. Offense actually be stopped in any legitimate way especially with a healthy Patrick mahomes and he is healthy. And that's the difference is when we've seen great defenses. Losing the Super Bowl. It's been all time great quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers one of the people who did I did not think Patrick Mahomes is obviously in that category. As far as this town is concerned. If you were the niners defense how would you defend Patrick Mahomes this explosive chiefs passing attack. So I think you have to mix it up. That's the best thing you can do. And you also have to understand that you're not gonNA stop them. They're GONNA make plays they're going to score points. But you need to try not to give a big play. Touchdown don't stress about them getting to the red zone but play well in a red zone which the forty niners haven't been doing which is scary. It's interesting right. Yeah the the niners defense ranks. Thanks near the top in most statistical categories this year. But you're right. They have been less. Efficient are actually been below average in the red zone. They've struggled to stop the run there. which cheese haven't really been running the ball lately? They've also struggled this season against mobile quarterbacks now that requires an enormous caveat which which is that D. Ford niners pass rusher at Kwon Alexander. LINEBACKER missed a lot of games during the regular season but you look performances against Cuyler Murray Lamar Jackson Russell Wilson. You saw those were the games in which they struggled a little bit more for what we've seen from Patrick Mahomes in this postseason is is an insane ability to take off the football as the leading rusher for his team and the playoffs so far and I think that he's always been comfortable with it now that his knee is gone a little bit unhealthier. He's more apt to take off. But I think that's less scary the him getting outside of the pocket throwing like I'd almost rather him try to run it for twenty yards. Because what happens win. He buys time against the forty niners. Specifically they're not traditionally man coverage team but everything turns the main when the quarterback starts to scramble like. That's your your scramble scramble roles as a defensive back or linebackers find closest guy and stick to them everything tires demand at that point in there they just frankly. The forty niners don't have the secondary speed speed in secondary and to be fair to them. No one has a speed and a secretary to run with McColl Hartman and tyreek hill specially with the arm. That Patrick Mahomes has the the chiefs are the best st passing team in the NFL or close to it. The San Francisco Forty niners are the best at defending the NFL or close to it. Something has to give live. How do you even begin to defend all of those weapons? especially if you're the forty niners you play a pretty simple cover. Three quarters mixed in there. Do you change it up. What do you do with Rick Chairman? You have to change it up. You can't survive and covered three. Andy Reid loves four verticals and with that speed and in Patrick mahomes arm strength and accuracy. He will eat you alive in the same with four verts. Would it really comes down to is pressure which is why I think that blitzing is a smart move. You WanNa make them get rid of the ball quickly and tackle but you're not gonNa do it every single time and if you give him one opportunity unity he can make you pay so you need to get the Turner was when you get those opportunities. I think they should be more aggressive than they've been and try to force them to get rid of the ball and make tackles. Yeah if there's been a weakness in this defense dominique. It's been the other side of the field for Richard Sherman originally weatherspoon more recently. They've been playing a manual. You'll Moseley a corner. He's been better but undeniably. That's an area of the field. I think the chiefs would like to target so much of the performance of the San Francisco Secondary. It depends on the pass rush getting home and you know as a former DB pass rushes the secondary's best friend a lot of the great statistics we've seen from the secondary can dairy are the product of this pass. Rush being so explosive a pass rush that turns into a murderer's row. Win The big four Defoe Award. DEFOREST Buckner Eric Armstead and it boasts are all on the field when those four players are playing their sack ratio. The percentage of drawbacks drawbacks in which they get to the quarterback jumps from six percent to twenty three percent twenty three percent of the time. They're taking the quarterback down So Eh my question to you is they've been able to get a lot of pressure by just rushing four. Do you think that they'll have success against a chief offensive line. That's probably one of the better offensive lines they faced aced. No now. It's just for. I don't think they can be able to stop him. The more I think about it in a way that you framed that I think made it very clear my mind is I think they're going to have to flush them out. You got to get him to run with the football or get them uncomfortable to get rid of the football. Because I do think that the chiefs offense line is good enough that they're not just going to get massacred. And then you put on top of it. The chiefs offense is not one that killed by a fact like most offenses. If you second now it's second and fifteen second eighteen it's over it's third and twelve. It's over over. It's not true for the chiefs offense so they can get pressured they could get a sack. Can Patrick Mahomes can make a play in overcome that so I think that the the worst thing they could possibly do is believe leave. Their Front for is going to be enough to stop this chiefs offense so far this postseason what we've seen from Patrick. Mahomes is a record performance. I quarterback in NFL history to throw for two fifty at rush for fifty consecutive games in a postseason. Do you think he keeps it up. And that's a difficult question because yes you can think he'll play well but we're talking about playing at historic level. I think he does keep it up and I think I've said this a lot in to the point where people make fun of me is that he's never had a bad game and that's one of the most mind blowing. I guess you can call it that you see from a guy who's who's just been starting for two years played a lot of games and there's never had a bad one like mediocre is the worst as you get out of them in in the big games. He's been fantastic gets thirteen touchdowns. Yeah no interceptions in his playoff career. And I know it's been said Ad Nauseam nor is why they are in Super Bowl last year because of off someone lining up offsides so like I've yet to see him shrivel into big moment he only seems to get bigger and until I see him Have a tough outing going to lean in favor

Joe Burrow, LSU complete dream season to win the national title

"Morning after. LSU's national championship. Victory over Clemson We are still here in New Orleans. Bruce what what do you think will be your lasting image of the game you know. I don't I don't know I mean because it was a lot of thoughts going through my head just seon beyon- early on like when suicide next to me in the press box it felt like for the first couple of drives were not breath not much is going on but then Clemson at LSU backed up their territory. Lot Zero blitzing. They they definitely I think Brent Venables had the LSU offense the ants on its heels and then clemson started to go a little bit in Clemson's did some big plays and I don't know what point was seventeen seven or or something along the lines of that. I I think our colleague Ari Wasserman put out something that was like who covers Ohio state as if it's unclear We all know it's unclear whether this is just a blatant troll job or not. He's after watch. It was early in the game when he said watching these teens. I'm really to do tweets. It was another another one that was a reference to while. Lsu like they were fortunate that they got Oklahoma. 'cause they wouldn't have gotten through like your comes to blow out from Clemson. We saw this movie the last year against Alabama at remember thinking. This offense is GonNa get going where I didn't really expect. Stu was Trevor Lawrence his talented in his as gifted as he is looked more like a freshman last night for you on Monday night then he did last year against Alabama when he actually was a true freshman and Dan so to see that You know it was just like Whoa here at combs it was like an avalanche and it felt like this where I was going with that it felt like when we were sitting there watching it was like all right. Clemson feels like that dominated the first the first half but at one point it was like that controlled the first half and all of a sudden. Now they're down by one another so now they're like a deep hole and Lsu's getting the ball back. It was just think just felt like this thing was destined to happen. Yeah as I in the Lsu locker room and then went back and wrote Sept- sat down to write. It felt like just it was yet another game where Joe Jonesboro dominated and and was yet another. LSU blow out. And then as I kind of look back in my notes you realize Gosh I can hardly remember it now but this was the game was twenty eight to twenty five early in the third quarter after constant score a touchdown then clemson held LSU and it gets the ball back where the chance to take the lead. And I say that because by the time the game was over you would never remember it. was that close Because we saw yet another Sterling performance format from borough Jomar. Chase was unstoppable You know I wrote primarily about borough in my column from the game because I think what we just witnessed was without question region. The greatest season a college quarterback has ever had and to the point. Where you know you and I had podcast in the past where we talked about we debated Cam Cam? Newton's amazing season Vince young amazing season where they ranked in the in the Where they ranked his players right among all time? Great College players. Joe Borough rush like Cam. Newton is gonNA remember for just one season but Each through sixty touchdowns sixty and so oh just to put that in perspective that great Excuse me that great Vince. Young season he had thirty eight D.. Accounted for thirty eight rushing and passing touchdowns Ashdown's Tommie Frazier Ninety Five Nebraska. No that was a different era. He accounted for about two thousand yards of total offense. Borough when you put in his rushing six thousand yards of offense offense and they did it against a schedule that was so tough that when the final. AP poll came out Late Monday night. LSU had beaten five of the top eighteen which were pretty sure has never been done before it was And and and all and by the end you know. We're talking about things things here. That was see that if you had told me what an August that this would happen. I would say that's impossible. And yet he made it look so easy in these games that it certainly didn't impossible while you're watching it. It just seemed like Oh okay yet. Another game where the other defense. DB's can't stop these receivers and boroughs making all the right. Throws Rose is interesting. I spent a lot of the three days down here in New Orleans in the inside with Lsu and a lot of meetings in which just comes back to his hey we got number benign. It was like in there is talking about like any. NFL personnel person. Or anything like that but then there is Joe. Bureau was so much better than any other quarterback in the country because of how he operated this system are poised is how accurate. How great he is off script when the defense does something I don't know why feel compelled to touch on this but you know obviously you have this back and forth over the last. Probably Five Years About Cam Newton where he was the one thing I would. I'd say Cam Newton had nobody around him. You know the the only thing close to him as an NFL prospects even remotely was fairly on the other side of the ball. Joe Borough Roll. Had Mortiz went wild last night he actually had three drop passes well. Aj Terrell is considered to be a really good cornerback and and the poor guy gave up to fifty plus yard catches to chase in the first half. They eventually had to switch to a new to trying trying different DB On him. Well Oh I think what you were saying. I totally grew the greatest Offensive seem season. We've seen from a from a college quarterback but I would ask you this and haven't done enough research on it. You know their body work as a team matches up with anybody right and they. We beaten some some really good teams by double digits now to me and I I would argue that the Miami Ed Reed that team as the most talented team. The what I do think is like this team hasn't loaded with the level of. I think ridiculously future hall of fame kind of pro bowl guys. I mean we'll see I mean. Obviously the gap between Kendra. She was a really good quarterback and Joe Arrow is significant. But I would ask ask you. Is this the greatest offense you've ever seen in college yes. This was the greatest offense in college football. I was thinking trying to think of comparisons and to to to what you said. We've seen a lot of great offenses that like for instance. The chip Kelly Oregon offenses that took college football by storm in time. Seemed unstoppable. Darren Thomas was the quarterback right. It wasn't a guy who's going to be the number one pick in the draft maybe think about some of these Oklahoma offenses recently. Certainly certainly the ones with Baker Mayfield Cuyler Murray season those offenses were prolific. But in both cases they eventually ran into a team that was more talented than them and was able to at least neutralize it. Lsu I think an an order on his set it and I think it's true what we saw. This season was just the perfect storm and the perfect combination of the quarterback. The offense that job Brady brought in the play calling reis even Zinger and just this insane set of receivers and also Clyde. You know who you're right about. Oh my gosh. That guy is unbelievable. A tackle them last night. Just every everything that needed to lineup lined up. I think it was the thing that you know not to go too. Big on Clyde there because the numbers aren't like Numbers but I think the element of having thing like it is the pick your poison where somebody's going to go all right. We gotTA worry about twenty two more and then also the one who won the won the Belichick off award you know. He was considered the greatest receiver. ALGEBRA's true sophomore. I think it was like and then that gets to touchdown. That was the kind of flurry that I think that they're just capable capable of and I I don't want him to bring up Ohio state. I was like it did not feel to me as impressive. This clemson was last year. is the president. We thought they were Dabo. Sweeney talking about the lack of respect. If all season to me there was no doubt who is the better team after watching that it last

When cuyler set the car on fire secondhand confessions don't do much but they had an eye witness and that police can work with they go arrest cuyler hyler and even if they didn't have the eyewitness cuyler appearance gave him away. Oh wow yeah. His face is definitely definitely burned right at that point. I think everyone's thinking like oh my god they got him but all they had him on was burning car which bernie mccarthy missing one person is pretty incriminating but he wouldn't confess he wouldn't give police a location of the bodies so they couldn't move forward on an any murder charges at least not then in april. A mushroom hunter was scouring the woods when he came across human remains when police were called out the skeletal remains were identified as jessica and right near her body. We're a much older set of remains and that's where kara had been laying for ten years waiting to be found finally in october. Two two thousand seventeen cuyler used was formerly charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of abandoning corpses keiler is actually set to go to trial this november in two thousand nineteen and unfortunately i think a key witness has been lost do do you remember <hes> the j. c. Who i had turned him in for burning the car. We just have the initials yeah we'll news. Outlets reported that j c could be the initials roles of jessop carter who has cuyler half brother jessup actually recently died by suicide in prison isn last september now his death is undergoing investigation and i don't know what not having him does to the trial. He was supposed to be a key witness because he was the one that witnessed him burning. The car was with him right after right now. They don't have him so. I don't know what that means. I mean you would hope that they were able to prosecute cuyler with more than just as i witnessed like there has to be more that they have otherwise they wouldn't have taken it to trial well. They took it to trial before he died but you'd think that they. I don't know maybe we'd back out on it. If that was like their key thing they have to have more rights. It's possible again. We're we're easing up on november. When his court cases opposed to go to trial i would be shocked if they dropped based on that i mean now that they officially have bodies and no one can say like oh. Maybe both of these are out there living their lives i mean i think it's easy to prove that he had a history of violence with kara. I think it's easy to prove. He was the last person to talk to her. He was last seen with jessica the night that she went missing so i'm sure having jessup would have been like the nail in the coffin. I would be shocked if they dropped. I i pray they have enough to go without jessup and you know i kind of wonder if there are more victims connected to this guy like before jessica was ever murdered. He told his girlfriend. I don't remember that statement. He's killed girlfriends before like laurel. Yeah was he just talking to seem scary or are there. Actually more people connected to the sky. Kara and jessica deserve justice the same way that kelsey got justice this but in the end the most important thing to each one of these families is that people remember the girls and not the men behind their deaths. Those men didn't define their lives or who they were or the people that they were going to become tells us parents actually became very strong activists because of their tragedy and they're the ones we can credit for the kelsey smith act which is actually the law that provides law enforcement with a way to quickly ascertain the location of wireless telecommunication devices back in the day of chelsea's what they were trying to do. They were trying to ping her cell phone to see where it was and at the time verizon was like i don't we can't can't do that but we don't know if that's an option like you can give us a peanut but like you know this is uncharted territory. They wouldn't do privacy concern yeah. They would only show past location so now this. This isn't even passed in all of these states. I thought i thought everyone could do that. I was totally ignorant but it's only passed a little over half the states. I believe and her family is still working to get that..

I don't think gets many props and maybe it's deserving deserved. But I thought that what Josh Rosen did with his goodbye Arizona video thanking the people of Arizona kind of having a little fun welcoming Cuyler Murray congratulating Cuyler Murray thanking the cardinal organization. Even the part, the, you know, the little hey, Khaderah got a two bedroom place in, you know, ready. I it's going up for sale here. I thought that was great because Josh Rosen reputation has been one of its one of maybe more individualistic than team oriented, and I thought that was a really good. Good way to create a sparkling fresh start on his way to the Miami Dolphins. I think Josh Rosen deserves a lot of credit for that. And that was done on Saturday morning and good for him. And now, you know what I'm probably not the only one that's going to say. Hey, I'm rooting for Josh Rosen now because I would like him to succeed. I think he's got a shot here. Well, if he didn't before he has more of a shot now. Sorry, I think because of the fact that I think he feels disrespected and I think he should. And I said it last week. Why the Josh Rosen deal could pay off huge for Miami

"Now Josh Rosen was traded during the second round yesterday to Miami for second round pick. And of course, Steve Khan, the cardinals GM was asked about the trade, and what it meant. And why it happened? And here's what he had to say. Time lie of the Josh Rosen trait out today. Right. We'll just you know, there were a number things that we talked about yesterday. And quite frankly, they were the truth is is. We're very high on Josh Rosen and certainly were were find to keep him. But I think there were number things that went into it. And it's sort of a sliding scale when you look at the value of what you get for the player as well as the number of players that you can get sort of in that area. I find that quote hilarious, by the way. We quite frankly what I said yesterday was true. And we would have kept him as opposed to. What if I if it wasn't true? But have nobody believes that right? They couldn't bring those two quarterbacks back with Cuyler Murray. And Josh Rosen. They are so incompetent the in the way they handled the situation, but I have no faith. The color Murray is going to succeed. What I don't think cooking's is gonna be good NFL. But just the front office is complete disaster for them to come out and say reported yesterday that they did not earnestly shop Josh Rosen until minutes before the draft. And then wanna first round draft pick. You knew your drafting collar Murray the second you signed. Clippings bury your head coach. And the fact that you do not even try to use some sort of leverage that you had which is basically we really don't know who we're going to pick publicly and try to get someone to give you a good draft pick. You don't think the giants might have been willing to part with thirty seven for Josh Rosen, you'd even try cards. You can even try then expected a first round pictures fall, you're up and said you get the sixty second pit water. See her great. You get pick next year, whatever. But yeah, they were going to Josh Rosen. One hundred percent just a matter of where he was going to go and I just don't trust the cardinals. They to hire coach for one year, expect him to change his entire scheme was ridiculous and not realistic and the cardinals. I just I'm also Kingsbury, and I'm not really sold Murray kind of being in that system. Myron you. I mean the deal though for the for Miami is great, right? You get sixty second pick. And you get Rosen with it's worth the shot. There. Don't you think? I mean the dolphins win. I mean, you bring in a new administration new coach you got a guy was top ten pick a year ago things didn't work out zone Zona its first year, but who succeeded behind that line and there was on last year. So I think you know, relgion you're almost going into a second rookie season. I mean, he had what fifty five percent completion percentage. I think the lowest passer rating in the league. But I think you scratch all that knowing what he was

"Where they first pick in the two thousand nineteen NFL draft. The cardinal select Cuyler Murray. Cuyler Murray number one overall, you you wouldn't have done it. Are you surprised that they did it? I am surprised that they did it based on what they did a year ago. When you you're now in the second this is the second stint in which you got a new quarterback in a new head coach twelve months ago. Basically you are in the same position with a new head coach new quarterback in a quarterback that you traded up and gave assets to get you are now saying that plan is scrapped. NFL draft 2019: Will the Cardinals unite Kyler Murray with Kliff Kingsbury?

"Just a couple of hours from the start of the NFL draft. The we're not gonna have some Philly to the second countdown on this show. Hope we do it's expected in some quarters at the cardinals will take Cuyler Murray with the first overall pick. There've been six weeks of reports that he will be or he won't be. Let's get right to the only question that matters. Tony what is shock? You Cuyler Murray doesn't go number one. Okay. So when you say some quarters all I've heard for X amount of weeks. He's going to go number one that the moment they signed cliff Kingsbury to be their coach. It was Kyla Marie. And it was Josh Rosen out will be shocked. No, I'm not going to be shocked because because if you get three number ones, maybe do something else. But I'm going to be surprised to the point of being a little bit stunned. It's the one thing I'm looking for. Maybe I'd like to see what the Redskins do other the music. I hope there's a lot of music from Nashville. But for me, if they don't take him, I'm gonna go, really. After all this really. Are you not know because I don't believe anything I hear. So you don't think sport in any sport? Because the point is to gain an advantage for your franchise. So the cardinals look their own quarterback doesn't know what they're gonna do the guy. They drafted last jayder with the first pick. Josh Rosen number ten overall air. I that's right. He is now basically saying he tried to go the other way and try to say, yeah, I'm good soldier. I'm gonna be with like to hell with you people. I don't believe anything you say his employer. So he doesn't believe them. Why would I I don't know what I'm gonna do it to pick? I don't know to me. That's the only suspense. There is I care bears have a pick in the first three rounds. So you don't I'm interested to see what the risk rate up to take the local quarterback Wayne house because that's all. To see that

"Is going to be a superstar in this league? Lastly, I think if the jets end up getting Quinton Williams, let's say let's say it's Murray Bosa than Williams if the jets get Clinton Williams, and they got Levy on bell. Yeah. I hate to admit it. I think the jets end up winning the draft. I mean, I know there's a lot of rounds. I understand that. But if they got levian belt, and they get this bad ass up front on their defensive line. I honestly think they win hundred percent. I'm with you. I again, this is just one of those things in the circumstance of the cardinals falling in love with Cuyler Murray. This is drawn that drawn a guy who could probably go first overall. He's got that kind of talent. And probably, you know, I'm not gonna rule it out too. But I think the cardinals are going with the quarterback the Quinton Williams start anybody who's coming out of that Alabama program. And he's manning the middle and his dominancy was the collegium player. He's gonna come into the next level and be just as good and the jets, you know, they're starting to build a. Nice little low-key defense couple of years ago, they snagged Jamal Adams. If you get somebody like winning Williams in there to the anchor that defense, and that's you know, that's really where a lot of it starts is that, you know, too, many times you get wrapped up in the statistics and quarter, you know, sack and everything like that. But somebody who can command a lot of attention from the offensive line. You gotta double team. He can push the line of scrimmage back. He can make quarterbacks uncomfortable that even if he's not even if he's not sacking quarterback just being in his face. And I think about you know, how Tom Brady gets flustered. When you rush him up the middle. I think this guy is tailor-made to play in the AFC, and you put them on that offensive line and Tom Brady is not going to be a happy happy camper. And I think he comes out there. And he's going to be a big time place. Adam great stuff tonight. I love it. Adam rank NFL number coming on CBS sports radio. Enjoy the draft. "I think well, I mean, plus you need to have the the one thing the reason why I don't think they can do it is there needs to be somebody who's been there done that four Cuyler Murray. You can't just have two guys who are kind of figuring it out together at the same time. You're gonna have a veteran presence to be not that Murray can't figure it out himself. But you do need to have that some- somebody there who's done it six seven eight maybe even more years than that talk. When I was in San Diego was they were going to possibly bring in Warren Moon. He had been for you see been under Kevin Gilbride and Houston, right? And would be there. Instead, they decided to go with just two quarterbacks on the roster me and young. Men in Craig Wheelahan who hadn't really played or would play. And we were just kind of a room full of misfits of not really not knowing what was going to happen or when things went bad. So that's that's a huge factor. There's been rumblings around the idea of of the Washington team, maybe making trade, I would think that if they if the cardinals are trying to make something work there. Maybe try to trade back for case keenum. Yeah, we're here. I'm I'm here in that to that's just as that. That's a lot of player movement. It's a lot of players to go from Denver to Arizona, right or to Washington. And then the funny thing is they both have the same agent Cuyler Murray, and in case keenum have have the same age Kingsbury. Yeah. It's it's becoming incestuous a little bit. John deals. Do get done. It is do you think that's a good fit for Rosen in Washington on? I think I think it would be great. If he ended up in New York, I don't know how it's gonna play out the leverage isn't there for them to leverage any other team to get a first round draft pick. Maybe not even a second. I know that the giants have a solid third round pick that probably could work. I hope they do something like that. Because they can use the six pick in the seventeenth for defensive lineman offense, really build something. And they would get the quarterback that they probably should have drafted eater ago. Not taking anything away from saquon. What he did? But you know quarterbacks franchise quarterbacks move this league. If they could do that that'd be huge. It would be ultimate win for the New York Giants. I just don't know if it's going to be able to get done some teams gonna panic. The last minute probably offer up a bigger draft pick to the cardinals to get the quarterback, they need one. I know the dolphins are in need down there Washington. Like, you talked about the big question Mark, I have is Dwayne Haskins. I don't see how what he's. Done not only last year. But all the way through the draft process that doesn't put him at the top of the draft. And what I hear is. He just keeps sliding backward in backward in backward. I there's something that we're not. We're not hearing. Otherwise, I don't know why. This would be the case. I don't understand it because he's he's good people. Yeah. He's also a guy who fifty touchdowns in the big ten I mean, and he was IGA better and better and better. He's he's physically he fits the role. One would think of a bigger guy Jameson Winston size and kind of it's not necessarily. You know, he's not gonna win any. You know muscle magazine awards, but he's he's going to get out there and stand in the pocket tickets and make throws down the football field. She did any lead. He's if it wasn't for him last year. They wouldn't even have been in the conversation for the college football playoff. They would have lost the Penn State game, Maryland, they would've lost the Maryland game for sure. So those two right there alone tell you what Dwayne Haskins and how important he was to that team. They would've lost the Michigan game too. Right. Chris..

2019 NBA Draft Prospects

"Here today to talk about for NBA draft prospects. And of course, there really is no doubt that Williamson should be the number one overall pick. He is the number one prospect, according to ESPN, we've been diving into this all morning long, and we're going to continue. So earlier this morning. The interesting moment happened when Mike care said that Zion could be the top center in the NBA in five years. Jalen face, look, like eighty something bad. Let's get into that just a little bit make your case. And then we'll let you Scott. What do you need to succeed at the five in the NBA? Right. You need to be able to rebound the ball to high level. Obviously you need to be able to guard the post and protect the rim and nowadays switch ball screens. Yes. Zion is short. He's six seven maybe six six two hundred eighty five pounds. He's going to be the quickest office feet out of any player in the NBA, especially bigs. So I think when you think about the fact that he can do all those things to exist defensively, and then on the offensive in imagine Rudy Gobert trying to chase this guy around even some of the best defensive centers in the NBA. I think people are kind of downplaying how good of a ball. Handler. He is how good of an attacker is he can push off the break. So I just think that he's going to be a mismatch nightmare in the modern MBA. And I think he can do all those things, you know, even though he's short two hundred eighty five pounds. He can pull his own against Jong. He's he's going to embody position that's basketball. But what you want to stop him for being the top center over the next five years if something that you can't teach height. And you said twice that. He's six seven which means when he's guard. Joel Embiid on the post they're going to do like this because he's too small. It doesn't matter. How baulky did he is? He's not going to be able to get that Ilbo in his chest. And stop them from getting a layer for a dump now. Can he be an amazing NBA player and produce a productive absolutely in certain matchup? Certain lineups. They have what I consider like junk players that find ways to play Minnesota five minutes at the four minutes on the perimeter. He's going to be able to perform, but the idea that you're going to start him at the five and finish him at the five. And he's going to be one of the best in the game. I don't think that that's necessarily his future not to give Rutledge credit because I think you were the first one that I heard say this and that is that Zion in his own way is almost the Cuyler Murray of the NBA draft, which is to say one of the reasons that someone like me has their doubts about Keiler is just because I've never seen it before. And I've been watching sports all of my life. I've never seen a guy. That size succeed playing quarterback in the National Football League. And there is still an element of my eyes won't believe it until they actually see it.

NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions

"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week

You already know where you're going. Not. I I wish I could tell you. Okay. Not yet. Not yet after the combine their reports about your interviews and people question, your work ethic leadership Xs and os. How do you respond said about you there? I have nothing to say about it Davi, see, you know, here in the news and stuff like that. For me. I know who I am. My teammates, my coaches know, who I am. I enjoy playing this game love playing this game. And I'm so. I mean, it is what it is. We're good this roll off your back back back. We move on negle- is what it is. Louis Riddick said here the exact opposite, Charlie casually. All teams are gonna have to make their own evaluations. At some point our zone is gonna fly him in and out for short. 'The worst report I've ever heard': NFL Network analyst crushes Kyler Murray

"It feels like the NFL draft season officially started yesterday because you had that full on character assassination. Charley Casserly reported that Keiler Murray did poorly in his team interviews, basically worse than any quarterback has ever done at the combine if you're a cardinal's fan, this might be confusing because there are report. What's your team is going to take him number one overall to put it into context? Here's Charlie Casserly who was a decorated general manager in the NFL. And now an analyst for the NFL network. These are his comments on Cuyler Murray. This was the worst comments. I ever got a higher rate a quarter manually I've been doing this a long time. Yes leadership. Not good case. Study habits not good the board work below. Not good. Not good at all on any of those areas and grazing major concerns about what this guy's gonna do. Now. People say, well, we're going to compare them to Mahomes, we're going to run an offense like well homes. We're going to run an offense. Like Baker Mayfield. It is possible. But those guys are much different. I mean, those guys you'd have a question about their ability on the board you never question their leadership ability their work habits. They were outstanding in those areas. This guy's not outstanding those areas it showed up in the interview. All right. That's Charley Casserly on the NFL network. I don't know how many front office people or scouts coaches. He spoke to there are. Certain potential draft picks when they go into a meeting, and they know that team is not going to take them they sort of mail it in. I don't know if that happened or not with Cuyler Murray. I don't know how many teams that Charley Casserly spoke to about Cuyler Murray. But there is that possibility also the information this time of the year is hard to trust on both sides because Lincoln Riley, and you're going to hear he's going to talk about Kyle Murray, a leader how great he is. And what may have happened in these interviews, but Charley Casserly. I don't know. If he's speaking to the raiders, they would like to get him downgraded. So they get a chance to get him. You know, I don't trust anybody's information who works for a team whose with a team. I just I don't I can't because I've learned I've learned the hard way, everyone has an agenda hard to get the whole picture, but Casserly saying that Murray had bad study habits terrible on the whiteboard drawing up plays. But it's. Goes back to how could he play? So great at quarterback in college. If you're the cardinals you have to take what Casserly said with a grain of salt.

NFL rumors: Kyler Murray seen 'universally' as No. 1 pick in 2019 NFL Draft

"Right. So the NFL combine is about evaluating talent getting ready for the draft. But according to the NFL network, it's done. Done vision has been made on who will be the number one pick in the NFL draft. In fact, it's so certain now that teams that are picking in the top ten of already given up on the idea that this person could be available to them because it's done. He will be the number one pick in the draft. Now, if you don't know the cardinals have the first pick in the draft, and according to a consensus overwhelming consensus, the decision has been made the Arizona Cardinals with the first pick in the NFL draft will select. Cuyler Murray quarterback Oklahoma. Now, here's what they're saying. In terms of Murray, people are beginning to believe almost universally. He will be the number one pick of the cardinals impact team. Speaking of the top ten believe they have no chance of drafting Murray. He's not the biggest quarterback in the world. But he is very big presence at the combine. Now, remember Arizona drafted quarterback last year. Brown named Josh. By all accounts, is is sort of a throwback to what used to be considered the prototypical, you know, quarterback the size and everything else like that. No. That's not a throwback at all. Steve. I I I I would agree with you that there are certain offenses like we see every single season that are going to employ more mobile looking quarterback running a style offense that is different from what we typically see. But the majority of the NFL is still running an offense that is tailored around the need for a pocket passer who can understand complex offensive systems who can read defense's in throw to the open, man. And so I don't think he's a throwback at all. I think he's he's really sort of in line with what a lot NFL teams are looking for. And so you're suggesting that the Arizona Cardinals are going to be looking to trade Rosen. Well, here's the deal. Now, this gets back to the hiring a cliff Kingsbury. You know, how it is? It's a copycat league. So this all came about because clip Kingsbury coach Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech, by the way without much success. I mean, they were they weren't a top team with Patrick Mahomes as a quarterback running that Texas Tech offense. I mean, he's putting up these numbers that we saw for years. I mean, granted guys all these other guys at tech stack, including clip Kingsbury himself back in the day pouring up these big numbers. But because he coached him. He must know something. I mean, he he must have some of that, you know, Patrick Mahomes magic to him since he coached him, even though he got fired by Texas Tech. But now, here's here's what color Murray said about cliff Kingsbury, he says coach Kingsbury, I know the type of offense he Razzie recruited me out of high school. And I have a great relationship with him. Now, if I were to play under him, I think it'd be a great deal. But I don't get to pick players. I just show up. And I do when I supposed to do obviously be. Very comfortable how it operates the offense. So there is this belief that with kings varies offense that Kyla Murray is going to be a superstar. Now, if you're the cardinals organization, you have higher clip Kingsbury a guy who has a losing record as a head coach at the collegiate level on a flyer that somehow the magic we saw from the breakout superstar the NFL this year. Patrick, Mahomes has some connection to clip Kingsbury. And he could do it with another quarterback that runs a similar style offense as Oklahoma does. And with Kyla Murray, by the way, who set an all-time NCAA record this year for passing efficiency breaking the record. A Baker may have from the previous year and the exact same often. So I ask you right now if you were to put Josh Rosen on the trade bloc. What would he garner or do, you hedge your bet if you're Zona keep Rosen just in case Murray is what you think he is. This is what I would do. This is what I would do. I would either a I would check in with cliff Kingsbury. Make sure that things are going good between he and Josh Rosen as far as sculpting an offense that both parties are comfortable either way. That's something that you're going to do on a weekly monthly basis with your quarterback coach with your offensive coordinator, certainly your head coach who has an offensive mine, and is going to be calling plays most likely if you get the indication sometime before I dunno April first that you're not able to run an offense with Josh Rosen. You look to trade them you look to trade him. I mean, and you start shopping that sooner than later because here's the deal. Everybody's got their war room. Everybody's got their draft board. Everybody is kicking the tires on these prospects. Josh Rosen has played a year and then F L. Now love it or hate it. We've seen what he looks like at NFL level. We've seen him against NFL talent. So now it's time to strike while the irons hot this decision needs to be made. So I would say you still have a month before you have to make that decision. But but the clock is ticking.

"Yes, sir. Hours wanted to talk about Intel Neo Brown. I was just listening to you. And I completely agree that the cardinals are going to take Tyler Murray with the first pick with Kingsbury being they're doing what he wants to do. They're going to somehow get Antonio Brown their team along with Larry FitzGerald. I mean, they could be the next Rams if they made that move all they gotta do is use a lot of motion, and you know. Thank you, John and Dallas and maybe give up their second round pick. Steelers are asking for I wanna gives up a second rounder. They get in Tonio Brown. Fitzgerald is probably playing his final season coming up and your future in for when I say short term future. Let's say five year window four to five year window is Cuyler Murray and Antonio Brown speed in space. That's that's where football is high school college level and NFL Mahomes NFL MVP Lamar Jackson needs to refined himself as a passer. But man, John Harbaugh in the ravens were just pounding people because you didn't know who's going to carry the ball. Now, some say well NFL defensive coordinator and head coaches will figure them out. I don't know. You can try and figure out speed. But if you can't have people faster than the guy, you're chasing. It doesn't matter. What you do in some film room? Go to Jim. In pennsylvania. Thanks for the weight. And you're on the Saturday night healed show for third straight week. Thanks a lot huge. Appreciate it. No problem. I appreciate your loyalty and listening. Well, trying to make this as quick as I can. Yes, I think Kyra Murray is leaps and bounds. Going to be the number one overall pick. I believe GMC's time is going to say, you know, what guys I admitted I screwed up with the Rosen tech. But I'm gonna hit it this year by taking Murray. And I think they're going to get lucky because I do believe that with the New England Patriots stockpile picks. I could really see Bella check mcdaniels even Brady saying, you know, what let's get this young guy, and they actually go after Rosen. And bring him to New England as far as Antonio Brown. Caller, earlier still a little bit of my Sunder because the Washington Redskins. I think it's just the perfect set forum. Despite the note quarterback that they have right now. Antonio Brown is still a name Dan Snyder sometimes to go for the name. Holy not so much care about the production, which is still there and for NBA ranks. I would put LeBron James Steph behind Paul, George, harden, Janas and Durant. Well, thank you so much called Jim in Pennsylvania. Yeah. All the all the stockpiling of picks. And Bella check, you know, had this guy in Jimmy G has era parent, but the smart move to have rose and spend the euro two or three grooming behind Brady. That's interesting. What Cuyler Murray could do? So the future of multiple teams by going number one. It begins with cliff Kingsbury in Arizona, or as we talked to Horowitz earlier this hour giants fan. What if he goes to? To the giants. And they're lining up the future with Josh Rosen saquon in OB Jay on offense, or as a gentleman just says or just said from Pennsylvania. What a ballot. Check makes a move. On rosa. And he's. The future two or three years down the road. And he learns from Brady. Wow. That's interesting. One eight five five two one two four CBS. That's one eight five five two one two four two two seven at Saturday who John Twitter Saturday night show on Facebook. Go to Skillet in Texas. You're on CBS sports radio. I can hardly believe that this young kid out of Oklahoma be the number one pick because first of all Harry Bradshaw says he's not good. Well, not good enough. But he just said he doesn't really have the qualities play in the NFL. And then when was the last time you ever saw team throw out there? Topic to get drafted. I mean, they're not gonna let Rosen go with all the money. They put him. And then you're just telling your whole team that hey, we don't know how to coach we don't know how to pick anybody in a draft in to somebody and throw them out the window after what one year like throughout Stephen Wilkes our head coach after one year coach. Yes, not player. They don't want their team saying, we don't know what's going on here. There will make throughout the courage Skillet. Okay. They did you're right. But that's not like throwing out of player. It's code out a player. An unproven player respect your opinion. I mean, you could be right. Nah. I'm probably rob. Lowe, you could be right. And I could be wrong. But I may be crazy. Nine five nine and a half. You really think they're gonna take him number one man went down to what nine or ten in the draft. Why because he wasn't very tall. And then they're going to do the same thing with this Oklahoma kid, of course, they're going to do the same thing as they did with that Johnny Manziel. I mean how much better than Johnny Mandel Skillet? Thanks for making things. Hot in the huge kitchen here on CBS sports radio. It's not just me. Okay skillet. I appreciate your call. Ryan Wilson CBS sports insider updated mock draft, this is before the combine in the measurements over five ten and nine and five eighths on the hands for Cuyler Murray. This is before. He has Bosa one Josh Allen to the speed rusher on the from Kentucky to the Niners Cuyler Murray at number three. The QB in a mock trade from the jets, Chris tra- Paso, this is before before. The NFL combine Bosa Allen and Cuyler Murray. Same thing he has with a mock trade with the jets are J white from CBS sports dot com in a mock draft before. The impressive Huby NFL measurements. At the combine. He has Cuyler Murray going number one. So the raiders in a mock trade with Arizona. Yeah. That's that's before. So my scenario is crazy. It's not far fetched. Yeah. The giants Japan had them taken Haskins at number six as the future replacement. For eli? So would you rather have Rosen with another year of Benadryl experience or Haskins and take a flyer on him? This isn't crazy. Look at the buzz everywhere since the combine began. Now, decay Metcalf opened up a lot of is at six three to nineteen. And ran a four three three that could take him from mock drafts in the lower part of the first round right into the top ten. Kylo Murray going number one Bosa Niners would take Bosa probably at number two. The Murray one the cliff Kingsbury, so you're cliff Kingsbury you're coming in. It was a shock. He was hired from USC as you offense coordinator where he never coached a game. And he's gonna come in and put his future in the hands of a quarterback who still improve. And I kinda Murray will be unproven in the NFL. But a guy that has never ran his offense. But Cuyler Murray has. And I liked the idea. Of trading for Antonio Brown. Because now there is your insurance. There's your speed and space. There's your small Texas Tech style receiver that cliff Kingsbury had it as as a QB and as a coach. And you give up around the top of the second round. And the Steelers would take that in a heartbeat. I don't think they're going to get a first rounder for Antonio Brown. I don't. Those are some of the scenarios that saying that's going to happen. But the more I look at it the more. You're you're cliff Kingsbury, you're gonna win more with Nick Bosa. At number one for Cuyler Murray. You fired your head coach Skillet saying, well, they're not gonna give up on Rosenberg gave up on an NFL veteran. One of the top assistant coaches gave up on him. They gave up on him after a year. They're not giving up on Rosen. They would trade him to the giants. Who throw a second rounder back the other way and the giants still get that six pick. So now the giants could look at getting crazy. Did they have alive for one more year that they have saquon that they have Odell Beckham junior under contract, and they decide that decay Metcalf who just created a massive buzz out of ole miss the wide receiver six three what eighteen four three three and they put him on the other side of OB. Jay we saquon and Eli for one year. And you're now they go with Rosen. The Metcalf Bobi Jane saquon, Hello. And they gave up a second rounder. And Kyle Murray's with cliff Kingsbury, and he dreams of doing what Andy Reid did in Kansas City when he gave up on an NFL prototype quarterback Alex Smith because he knew Pat Mahomes could take him to the next level with an offense. That was almost unstoppable. And if it wasn't for an offsides call on the chiefs defense might have been world champions. So you're Kingsbury your anybody in the NFL. You look at Arizona. You're off the radar. You're the worst team in the NFL. Tell me a reason why you would not go to Murray as your future. It's a no brainer..

NFL Trade Rumors and Buzz

"And they're like what is the buzz about here? And I was like we'll Cuyler Murray's Wayne, but he's not even gonna test. Yeah, there there isn't mother isn't a there isn't one specific thing that people are really buzzing about I think there's a several position groups that are really interesting. I think the offensive linemen and the receivers have some really interesting players receivers, particularly there's like the whole spectrum of type of players. I mean, you've got decay Metcalf. You've got I came and then he got Markey's Brown, and like smaller shifty guys you've got AJ Brown who looks like a running back playing receiver. There's just all kinds of guys in. So there there's a lot of I think if you're if you're gonna say there's buzzer excitement about anything. It's it's watching receivers as watching the offensive lineman, obviously defensive lineman is going to be huge this week. Oh. Ed oliver. I think that was actually kind of an interesting thing this morning, he weighed in I think it to eighty seven. So that was a good way for him. That's plenty. Yeah. That's like more than what Aaron Donald waiting now. Obviously that's a comparison. That happens a lot. I don't think he's earned Donald. But he's a very good player very explosive and being at two eighty seven is a very good number for him. We'll see how he tests. I think that he over the next few days he could generate a lot of buzz of among the receivers. Is there anybody that you particularly like, it's just one of your guys? I think you came about a starting to he started to I I mean, I'm standing out to you a little bit. As things you've said to me in tweeted, I'm reticent to say, he's my guy because I there are worries with him in terms of drops and his like, he's just massively few look at his web chart on. Oh credible through the measurements. It's just he's like ninety eight th percentile in every day. Big, man. I think actually I heard that he set the record for wingspan at receiver position at the combine almost eighty four inch got. Yeah. So he's got an insane catch radius. I'm a little worried about like. You know, his ability to separate his his consistency as a catcher, but he has immense upside I'll put it that way like his ability to get behind. The defense is really good. He's really long strider really fast. So I wouldn't necessarily say he's like, you know, my pound the table guy. But I do like him a lot. I'm really interested to see how akilah Harry runs think. He's just kind of one of those guys that's really polarizing right now because we're from Arizona state. He he's a guy that is like really big physical super productive. But he's also sort like, there's he's kind of in the alshon Jeffery shor mold where you're like Kenny separate or is he gonna have to only sorta use his body in wind contested catches and things like that. I think he's going to be really interesting. The Stanford guy JJ JR Sega white said Whitehead is really interesting player. He's like form basketball player box out king. Like if you watch him they just throw it up into the end zone.

Is Kyler Murray the best running QB the NFL has ever seen?

"Said this earlier arguments say it again, and I know a lot of people are going to disagree as they runner. Cuyler Murray is the best running quarterback. That's. Ever come into the National Football League. Even Michael Vick. You can go back and watch which I've done you can also look at the stat sheet. Kyla Murray in his last season or his last two years at Oklahoma average, two more yards a carry than Michael victims and his career at Virginia Tech. He's just a little bit more dynamic because of his short area. Quickness. The last thing I would say is he's one of the best passers to go along with that athletes as runner that we've ever seen. His accuracy is off the charts not quite Baker Mayfield. But it's off the charts. If I'm in the top five, I'm taking Cuyler Murray dudes of football playing Jesse. And you gotta understand that those who are are thrown off by his size. I remember war dome when he came into league and that was listed at five nine one eighty and every defenders listener chops off can't wait to get on them. Play twelve years league, three pro bows? And I never got a square shot on them. And I never seen. Anybody? Get one. Is this like you sit. Yes throws. That's short area space when you get into. That phone move with that guy. And you think you have all the vantage because of your size that quickness he's gonna take four steps before you take your next one, and he's going to be out of there. And I think that's going to play think the real interesting thing for me is always think about the fault mechanisms of the quarterback Cam and the default mechanism if your default mechanism is from the neck up, you'll survive even being smaller, even being athlete gifted even being able to move around. If you're the fault mechanism is from the neck down. You're in trouble. Meaning I'm just gonna take off and run around here and throw my body throw caution. My my body to into harm and all those things they're caution to the wind like if that's your fault mechanism. And so then it comes down to who's actually a gifted quarterback because the gifted quarterbacks when things break down Bill extend the pocket, they'll move around. They'll even escape the pocket, but they're gonna make their decision from here up. Joe and Kenny do that. And I think he can. Yeah.

"There's six Super Bowl coddle thousands. They won three or four. They have won three of the last. Yes. Nothing. And they're still here. Patriots have made it to four of the last five Super Bowls. Peter we were doing the math on the radio side earlier. They have played fourteen extra games in the last five seasons. Nearly a full extra season of postseason games. The Rams hadn't been to the Super Bowl since two thousand one. Let's start with the patriots. Tom Brady is going to be back. Bill Belichick is going to be back. Brian floors is gone. Rob gronkowski Mary not ready to retire. I if I had to guess I'd say he's going to be gone to the patriots have enough to load it up and get back. One more time. You know, I think they will Mike because I think they're going to have a very interesting off season. I think they'll have a compelling off season. In fact, think of this think of the simple fact that they've got six picks in the top three rounds. And when you consider that I believe, and I'd have to look this up. I think they're going to be the only team in the NFL with six picks in the top one hundred K. So what that leaves them the ability to do in a draft that most analysts very early post senior bowl said that this is going to be a very good draft. Not a great draft at the top. But a very good draft rounds two three and four who does that benefit it benefits the team that doesn't pick till the thirty second pick. And then they've got six picks between thirty two and one hundred and it also benefits a team that. That if this team falls in love with a quarterback in this draft Cuyler Murray, one of the other guys, I don't know. But last year, you know, that late in the draft process. They were getting very interested in Baker Mayfield. Imagine Mike that Keiler Murray somehow, someway, they trade up to pick eighteen or whatever it is to get Cuyler Murray. And everybody says, oh, jeez. That's not the patriots quarterback. You know, he's he's thin. He looks like a major league center fielder. Not an NFL quarterback. Imagine giving Cuyler Murray two years. I two years Deva little role in the offense. But to get his body ready to add that little suit of armor that a quarterback needs today in the NFL and to think be ready to play opening day two thousand twenty one you're going to be in the best laboratory that any young quarterback could ever have my feeling is I think the patriots are going to have a very good off season. And I don't know if the win it again next year, but they'll be prepared to and you mentioned calamari, and we're gonna be talking about him a lot over the coming months. I assume assuming he does choose football over baseball. He is not. Just.

"The Oakland Athletics select Cuyler Murray the as made Maria ninth pick in the draft last June after flashing all five tools on the ball field. The outfielder signed for nearly five million dollars. But that wasn't enough to keep him away from football the Sooners have another quarterback who's a Heisman candidate and by some measures. Marie -joyed. The best year a quarterback ever had very aloof time. He became the first player in F B S history to average three hundred yards passing and sixty rushing in a season split. He also generated the highest QBR in the history of that metro Tyler Murray. Murray won the Heisman Trophy for his efforts something no I run pick in baseball had ever done before. He could also become the first player ever drafted in the first round both by major league baseball, and the NFL what a difference a year can make. It's so interesting to me Damien Woody because if Kyle Murray would have just said, I'm gonna go play baseball and good. I'm going to stick with the as he wouldn't be about to join us from the Super Bowl. Like now, he's changed. His whole path is whole trajectory. What do you think all of this week will be like for him as there is so much attention leading up to the draft about what his path could be just fees more to his desire to to play the National Football League. This is this is the biggest platform in all sports being being at the Super Bowl. So I think just having that exposure to all the media different players. I think it just feeds into the narrative much more. Yeah. Until he's ready to go right now. Let's bring Colin Murray into this conversation live from Atlanta college owns us on behalf of Gatorade. And we will start with the program there. Tell us what it is you're doing with Gatorade this week collar, and then we'll get into our conversation. You can hear you loud and clear do hear us carb. Okay. Okay. I got you. I got you know, I'm a I've been fortunate enough to be with Gatorade for the past couple years now after being blessed enough to win the athlete of the year war in high school. So just glad they got. They got me out here me, and my family is my first Super Bowl ever, you know, they're committed, you know, helping me be on my best and all along with the all the other athletes cross the world. So there's got to be it's interesting. You just mentioned that you were the Gatorade player the player of the year in high school you've gone on to win so much more after that Keiler. But as you think about what your future may look like to you know, right now as you're sitting on this show and doing everything you're doing for Super Bowl week. What you want your career path to be? Young though, always wrote on the paper, I want to be professional athlete, and you know, I think I got one of those locked up right now. Dumper unity to go. If I do the football being be selected, another sport. So for me. It's all dream come true blessed to be in position. I'm just saying one day at a time. What will you can sit her before you make this decision? What are the primary factors that will go into you, making up your mind? Question y'all away. Really Wade out, you know, all options, you know, this really coming down these last couple of days probably make a decision here soon after Super Bowl really soon. Actually. So wait on all the all the options, you could possibly way out trust me, if you're going to make it that soon, perhaps you could just tell us now, what are you planning? Have you seen you sound kind of ready to do this? Are you going to be a football player or a baseball player? Nah. I'm not doing that today. Okay..

"Okay. So is that going to happen? It's probably a long shot. Gruden is a real possibility which would scare me for Cuyler. But I tweeted about this last night just because it just struck me if you put collar quarterback in saquon running back and Dell. At wide receiver in New York City. Would it not be voltage? Again, your Vegas point is very valid because it is. But how about New York would with this team? Not suddenly be the toast of New York again because it would be back page headlines every day. Page with maybe off his line too. And and it would also scare me in a different way. I'm not the biggest Pat Shurmur fan because he is old old school. He is conventional dropback passer. He did help Andy Reid. Coach Don McNabb early in Philadelphia. But I don't know exactly how much he had to do it. Because Andy did everything he was the coordinator in the head coach. Right. So again. What about about being Minnesota's give what's that? They went to see. Okay. Maybe could he adapt to this? Because his watched his son all year Vanderbilt. Call Shurmur nice college player. I'm not sure he has a pro future. But he's just real conventional dropback passer, not very mobile, not very athletic. That's all Pat has really known. Could he adapt to Cuyler? 'cause you gotta let him do some of the things he done ninety percent of what? But here's what I love about Cuyler. And I told you this early on this year. I'm just watching this from TV he has a supreme athletic confidence about him that that borders on air against but it's not hard to take. It's real remember this kid never lost a football game in high school. He walks on the field. Like he belongs there. He plays the game. Like he knows. He's good. And the defense also knows he's good. He's he's a playmaker. Who knows he can make plays. He just liked the way he carries himself. It's completely the opposite of Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield always over Cheever the underdog fighter chip on his shoulder. Screw you. I'm gonna get you. And he wants to talk back at you. And he wants to do this do that. He wants to throw a football hit the kid and the ad. He wants to fight you playing football. And this kid is the complete opposite. He's quiet and he carries himself with athletic dignity, and you've been around stars. Who just they just know they're good. He's little but he is stout. An is good. And there's no moment too big form. There's no stage too big for him. He would walk onto the New York Giants stage, and he would own it. He would be just fine in New York to skip is that if you. The raiders selected kid even though it would be with their pick. Because they've been terrible. No matter what happened. If you turned out to be good people ten years fifteen years now. Oh, they got him in that in that a Khalil Mack tree or they got him with the Mark Hooper? It don't matter. It doesn't matter. What you do with the other two ping? You get this kid. And if kid is good as people think he can be as good as he showed in college. Who cares? Who cares? What you get for Khalil Mack. And that's lot. Who cares? What you get Mark Hooper? Because all this got you need that guy is nice to have any other position. But if you can hit you can land Moby Dick with the quarterback vision. Yeah. Everything is a piece of cake. So wouldn't it be something if Cuyler Murray Wendy ally manning on Jon Gruden in Jon Gruden said? Nope. Don't take me. If you take me on playing for the I'm not gonna play for the raiders play for the as if you. Take me I'm going to New York or I'm not playing football his low weight around about books. I keep more one ninety five to one nine advise. I think he's put together. No Janez say, no, I didn't say that. Jimmy said yes, he's a strong kit. About we would tell the truth while you had to take you searching an old photo from an interview with. Aw. Pretty it's pretty much eight and three or four. Okay. Look it out at me. The cleats. Are you foot? It. Well, he would be the shortest starting quarterback in the history of the National Football League. But he might be willing to lay of no sproles someone. Short guy..

"A test drive today. I mentioned this yesterday that talent evaluator NFL scout. I said would you give me your thoughts on Cuyler Murray? And he said I'd have to look at more tape before I give you an opinion. So I finally heard from him yesterday after the show, and I said if you had a first round pick, would you take Murray the scouts that? I would not he's really small very talented. But eventually he's going to have to win in the pocket and that will be hard to do. It's still a big man's game. All the talk before the semi finals were about the quarterbacks, but the exceptional one was Lawrence. I'm sure that Murray is using the NFL was leverage in. Why wouldn't he, but his long-term earning potential is much better in baseball, in my opinion, aka Jeff samardzija Somalia was a wide receiver Notre Dame and he's made about ninety million dollars as a middle relief, ma'am. The scout goes on to say can't say what Murray prefers and that may play into his decision. Drew Brees is one of the all-time. Great quarterbacks. Russell Wilson is very good. Both have exceptional football. IQ? Wilson gay baseball, try and came back to football. So who knows what he'll do. But I would take him with the first round pick. So that's just one man's opinion here, but it's a big opinion if you have some scouts, and there's a consensus that may be color Murray is not a first round draft pick. And what's that mean for his decision to stay with baseball or throw his hat in there to the NFL draft. Eight seven seven three DP show, Email address TPS, Dan, Patrick dot com. We'll get your phone calls. Gotta poll question. Mclovin. Two weeks into his tenure already breaking a lot of news. And no surprise Jeff back on the program. Jeff good morning. Congratulations on the new job. Where do you wanna start with Cuyler Murray? I want to start first by by correcting the record here if I may for a second Dan less we not forget that the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel because a homeless man told Jimmy the owner there that it was the right thing to do. Okay. So clearly, you can be like Jerry Jones listened to your personnel people and take Zack Martin or you can be like Jimmy has unless you're random homeless. Johnny mandel. Is when we know I'm not, I'm not like, the bitter Cleveland. Fat or anything like that? Either. Not at all. Oh, I'm not waiting for a championship or anything. When do we find out? What? Kyla Murray's true intentions are going to be. You know, I think I and I ran this by a couple of sources in the last few days. I think it's going to be within the next two three weeks or so, and here's my rationale behind that that gives the as some time to put together an offer that's going to be financially incentivizing for Cuyler Murray to pass up on football that also in the reason it's this close as opposed to February fifteenth when he's due to report the Oakland A's camp. What that does is that allows him to get into either shape if he's going to be going to the NFL scouting. Combine that starts February twenty six. He needs to be training for football. And if he's going to spring training he needs to be training baseball. And I understand that that to the layman to to meet to you to everyone else out there that training seems like training, you go to the gym lift weights you ride, and you do various things, but there are elements of training, especially when you're going to something like the combine that is just so specialized that you need to focus on and a monthly time is about right for a guy who's already as as fitting athletic is Kyle Murray. So I don't know if it's gonna be by February first, but I think it's going to be close to that time does Cuyler Murray. No. Sort of where he stands what is great is as as a football player having Scott Boras as his agent who's a baseball guy does that help or hurt trying to figure out where Kyla Murray stands as a first or second round draft pick. Well, I think if Tyler Murray ends up being a football player he's going to get a football agent. Scott Boras has never represented football players in his life. Okay. Pride in being a baseball only guy. So I don't think that is going to factor into it. What Scott Boris is doing though is it there's a very interesting dynamic going on right now. And that is normally the agent club relationship is adversarial because the agents is trying to get the most money and the team is trying to pay the lease money, and they're going to eventually negotiate and find a place in the middle in this case, Billy bean and Scott Boris his interests are perfectly aligned both of them both of them what Cuyler Murray to play baseball. And both of them are trying to work together to keep him playing baseball. Because Scott Boris believes that Keiler Murray can be a superstar baseball player and Billy bean believes that Kylie Murray can be superstar baseball player. And I think that if you talk with other evaluators that might be a bit of a stretch some guys see his ceiling more like Jackie, Bradley, jR, as opposed to a a monkey bets type. And I you know, the fact though that we have as many players in baseball. Who are Cuyler Murray size and have shown themselves to be incredible. You know, Willie Mays five foot ten Hank Aaron five or ten Murray's not out of place in baseball in football. Tyler Murray is either an incredible freak who has overcome limitations that only one guy in modern football history. And that's Doug Flutie has done or is not going to be successful. Talking to Jeff passan ESPN senior baseball insider are the as the wrong team for Murray. In what regard they're cheap. You know, they don't spend. They're not on the baseball landscape. Even if they make the playoffs like they're they're just sort of a benign franchise. Could they I wonder if Murray his rights were owned by somebody else? Would it be like the dodgers? Yeah. The dodgers are the are the Yankees are a marquee team did here. Here's the reason. Why don't think it makes a difference because the dodgers and the Yankees have added minorly places to like you're going to need to go to the minor leagues. No matter what in Tyler Murray, and you might start at low A, you might start an high the as have him ticketed for Stockton, California. Right now, the colleague, you know, I'm I'm glad it's still early on the west coast. Hopefully, they're only a few people listening to colleague is just a desolate. And and so to start your career there when you could be playing in front of eighty thousand people in NFL stadiums on every Sunday. Like that is is openly. What I wonder if it drives Cuyler Murray's decision is the is the prospect of being in podunk cities in stadiums. Playing in front of a couple thousand apathetic fans at night, really going to get the competitive juices flowing it, and I think he's got a taste of stardom. He's played in front of big crowds is entire football career from high school on. And I think it's hard to sort of say Jew spotlight. Hey, I'll be back in a couple of years to shine. Again. I just get the feeling he loves football. He's got leverage here. But if I'm if I'm the as I wanna know is Kylie just answer this question. What do you love more baseball or football? Because if he's not sure I I move on. I can't I can't be here's the here's the thing though. Dan, Le let me let me throw this out to you. I talked with drew Henson last week drew Henson last week. And it was a really interesting conversation. Because the way he put it is if you've grown up your whole life loving to things like, we're we're as a society into this sporting monogamy, and and we see it with our kids. I see it all the time. I have an eleven year old. And and people ask what sport does he play, Mike. He plays sports, plural. He plays baseball plays basketball. He plays. You know, he runs he does as much as you can because I'm trying to create a love of sports for him. And Tyler I think is allowed to love football and baseball, and and the idea that he's being forced to choose here. It sucks for him. It's not it's not easy enough decision. I think for them to go to him and say, which do you love more and for him to be able to answer like that? Because they're just so many factors at play here. Whether it's money, whether it's fame, whether it's parental pressure there. Are all kinds of things that I do not. I I in so many ways Andy Tyler Murray, but having to make a decision like that Dan at twenty one years old when you don't know anything about the world like, you know, drew Henson almost twenty years later still has regrets over his choice, and it's not regrets that he signed with the New York Yankees and and gave up football together. But he wanted to go back to Michigan for his senior year and feels like he really should have done that your gut feeling is going to be what for collar Murray. My gut feeling is football. I think the Oakland as are going to go absolutely all out. I think they're going to make him a blow you away offer. And I think it'd be a lot closer than it should be. But QB one is QB one, man. And if you're a kid from Texas that is all you need to hear when you've got a first grade on you. Jeff, great stuff is always congrats on the new gig at the mothership, and we'll be keeping an eye on what you report. Thank you Dan coming on. And appreciate you have me. Jeff passan ESPN senior baseball writer used to be at Yahoo. Sports and covering Cuyler. Mary you can love both. I don't think Tyler Murray loves both. I think he loves football. I think he's good at baseball. You got a great agent in baseball. And probably saying you could be another Mike trout, you could be a Bryce Harper. And he would be publicity-wise Cuyler Murray could go to the miners and still be one of the top five most popular baseball players in the game. But I think if you get drafted in the first round your honor roster, and you may be stepping right into play in the NFL. He's going to have to wait a couple years to play in major league baseball. And I the one thing that stood out the most with what Jeff passengers said he might be more of a Jackie Bradley, jR, nice player. Instead of a Mookie Betts. I think there's that feeling of boy he could be another Rick. Henderson. Now. I've Santa a whole lot a whole lot. But I don't buy into this his size. I don't you know, or lack of size playing in the NFL. Can you play the position because if you have a football IQ, you love the game, you got to strong arm. You got an accurate arm. Then I'm gonna find offense that fits you. And also keep this in mind when we talk about why you can't see over linemen. I'm looking at Oklahoma's linemen six four six three six four six four six five. So the average six four that's the line. He's going to have in the NFL. And yes, he's going to have to win from the pocket at some point. I agree with that. But I can roll the pocket. I can I can have an offense that's catered to his talents. If he's that talented, then I'm going to have an offense that catered to him and not ask him to fit into my offense. Yeah point Russell Wilson told us he's five ten and three quarters his office line. Russell Wilson's averages. Six five. Now, you can't see over them. It's working out pretty well for him. "So this from the motherships Todd mcshay says Cuyler Murray would be a first or second quarterback on the NFL draft board if not for baseball. So that's the first or second quarterback not first or second round draft pick. So Haskins is considered the number one quarterback on the board there. But depending on. You magin the giants with Cuyler Murray saquon Barkley in Odell Beckham junior. I don't know if you've had you'd have any offense that would have three athletes as good as those three. They're awfully short as a trio though. They would be the Jaguars have the th pick in the draft. I feel like the Jags need to get a proven commodity there for that locker room. I think you need foles or flacco. I think that's the direction that you need to go in. I mean, I'm not the biggest Nick foles fan. I appreciate what he did in the Super Bowl even this year in the playoffs. I just don't know if he's a great regular season quarterback. He had one great regular season. Flacco is a good regular season quarterback. But he's been very good in the playoffs. And if you're going to bring somebody in I want, I I gotta get to the postseason, and then I can rely on you and your talents. And the fact that their demeanor is very similar with foale's and flacco that would be what I would be looking for. I don't think either is going to put up, you know, thirty five touchdowns. But I do think once you get to the postseason those two guys have proven to make a difference. Yes. The perpetually bland dolphins have the thirteenth picking. Now imagine Cuyler Murray with the dolphins. They had Pat white though, that's from West Virginia. Well, the guy's still got a bad taste in their mouth and a pet white era. Yeah. I I don't I don't think that that's no they didn't really liked him up. According no, no, no. That didn't even draft him for that. That was the wildcat that they brought in Pat, right? I think so it might be crazy. But remember we talked last week about what if cliff Kingsbury traded Josh Rosen and and went for Kyla Murray. Maybe not even a one, but kinda Murray seems to fit his spread offense. Maybe that's a fit in. Or maybe is it back up to Rosen. No, you can't bring him in as a backup. What if because baseball fell to the top of the second round teams are like I'm not going to go be. I think he's going into as. Well, I think you would know by then what where he's going or his direction of what sport he's gonna play in Mike in Alaska. I mike. What do you have for me today? Grew five seven one seventy five. More. It's warmed up from when I talked to you Friday. I got my worst is Cowboys obviously in their defense. I didn't see any vapor trails leaving those Rams bodies is their souls were supposed to go away. I got a I got a best is it. It went from forty blow to twenty five above overnight on the on Sunday morning. It was cool. Couldn't do meet Friday or Wednesday. So I didn't meet Sunday that was awesome on Sunday as the best for the weekend. And it's hockey time. So go predators. Thank you. Mike and Mike gave us a winter update their way, what part of Alaska Healy, Alaska Healy, Alaska. Yeah, it's a high of thirty today. Low four he's going to be killing it today. Move spotting. Yeah. Have some fun CJ in Florida. Hi CJ. I wanted to comment on that Florida hard to get into the discussion. We were having had a kid a couple of years back who played football for local high school down here. Really good kid head of the Honor Society at the five plus GPA. He score twenty points lower than a perfect score SAT and did not get in the Florida, and I've had kids that had similar, and the reason is because they have so many people applying that college they can take the Rhodes scholars and all the highest of the highest and then they put everybody else into a lottery..

"Seven. Scott Redmond tweets, I miss defense. Sometimes. Don't. Do we really miss it all that much? Most of the exciting games that I think we've seen this year. It's safe to say maybe outside of the Cowboys beating the saints on that Thursday night football. That's the most notable defensive performance. I can think of outside of the bears entire season. I think we have to lump them in is the outlier the bears defensive performance all year was as entertaining as anything you'll see. But as far as a singular game that will point to. That cowboy saints game on Thursday night word the cowboy shocked the world seems to stand out to me also Kevin bickford big for twenty four tweets and Golden State analogy about the patriots is perfect. We are so excited about all the different suitors. It's kind of funny other than their fan base. Our country is so ready for those to to not be the champions anymore. I know New England didn't win the last one. But no, it's understandable. We feel like they're there. Every time there is fatigue. We talk about Alabama and Clemson the fatigue surrounding them. Golden State the fatigue and the complaints there. And the patriots have been the one man band for that. Because with the other two we have seen. Golden State Cleveland that has been a run that is now over Alabama. And Clemson that has been a run that shows no signs of slowing down, but it has been New England, and and you can insert on the other side who that and might lead to and that's what it's felt like first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. That's what it's felt like at certain times with this team. So we'll get back to that. But we talked a lot about the offense of explosion in the NFL from this year, the different twists and turns took, but ultimately it led us to be top four offense of teams in football left. Standing in the final four for the NFL. And the effects. I said, Sean McVay probably the most influential person in the NFL over the last two years what he has ushered into the NFL has really taken hold now. We'll see how long it lasts. But it's had an effect on the way people in the NFL or doing business so much. So the Heisman Trophy winner. Tyler Murray is making a decision that I never thought he would make I thought it was going to be easy collar Murray who was drafted in the top ten in major league baseball draft before his junior season at Oklahoma. Was offered a contract with them worth four point six million dollars. Minor league deal that he agreed to with the as when they took him ninth overall. But not deal they allowed and come back for his junior year and said you can play your junior year football. Skip your senior season come play for the as that season went. So well for Kyle Murray that he won the Heisman Trophy his team made the college football playoff. And then the rumbling started about his draft prospects guy could be a first round draft pick some people even thought it's not too far fetched that a team like the cardinals with cliff Kingsbury and air raid guy coming from college could even think about taking him number one overall. And while maybe that's the outlier there was enough buzzed where Kyla Murray said, wait a minute. If I weigh the pros and cons in this. I can make a lot of money being a first round quarterback. I can play a sport. The clearly there is an affinity for in Cuyler Murray. And all the sudden the game changed. Now, we hear these reports yesterday. Now we hear the rumor mill starting to fire up yesterday. The Cuyler Murray wants a fifteen million dollar contract from the as the stick with baseball. Otherwise, he'll enter the NFL draft when he's got the chance to today. Now there have been disputes about that fifteen million dollar number. But the idea that Keiler Murray is now look at a major league baseball and look into the as and saying I can make more money over here. You can either offer me more money. Or we can part ways and I can go play football. Well, I immediately had questions about. All right. What are the as allowed do? Because make no mistake about it. I'm firmly on the side of Cuyler Murray. And I know there's some dispute about honoring the deal on all these different things. Here's the bottom line in any other line of work. You're looking at this is a smart business move. That's the point. I've seen made the point that I think is worthwhile. But more so than that. When you look at this the draft in general is a system decided designed to suppress the earning potential of players coming out. It is literally a system that gives you players on the cheap. Even though in the open market. You would probably pay a lot more for most of these guys services. So you're already getting dudes one thirty inside that system that are working against the grain and so- Cuyler Murray going in trying to control everything that he control is fine because the game change the minute. He went out and bald to the level that he bald and football this year the game changed because now he knows his values gone up. And so what do you do when your values gone up you go back to the table? And you negotiate you say, no, no, no things are a little bit different now. And if they can change they will and the can was what I had a question about. And that's what we got an answer. So Jeff passan are yo- rights for us and ESPN dot com. Came out with article asked, I documenting some of the specifics about this. And I thought it was pretty interesting, and he said the Oakland Athletics consign Kyle Murray to a major league deal and offer him significant guaranteed money in order to choose baseball over football without running afoul of major league baseball rules league sources told ESPN now this is after Oakland as officials and major league baseball officials flew to meet with Cuyler Murray to try and persuade him to play baseball. And you could see a guy like this. Why he'd be so valuable? He's a big name. He's an electric athlete. He's young. He's extremely talented and major league baseball. We talk about their star problem all the time. This is a guy with star potential in this. We mentioned that minorly deal worth four point six six million dollars. That he signed that he agreed to after they drafted him there. The as executive they mentioned they all met with him to try and convince him he's expected to clarify the NFL draft before the deadline today. This would not preclude him agreeing with a to a deal with the as, but here's where it gets interesting. Major league baseball rules prohibit players from signing major league contracts which plays players on the forty man roster out of the draft. They're not allowed to sign amateur players to minor league deals, then immediately give a major league deals because the latter would be an inducement to sign and circumvent the league's finite draft pools in Murray's case because he signed a minor league deal, and because his performance at Oklahoma changed. The circumstances of his baseball career Oakland would be within the rules to give Murray a long term extension. If that's what it takes to keep him in baseball. Even with a major league deal Murray would likely begin his career at high a Stockton. So he would still begin his career in the same place. But because the game changed major league baseball make that concession now. I understand major league baseball wanting to do everything in their power to keep this dude out here. And if ultimately a works out here, it's a reminder that what we have seen across every level of sports has changed. You have guys that have an understanding of how this business goes a lot better than they used to and more power to go along with it. And that's a good thing. Like, it may make people uncomfortable. And there may be a lot of people that think just like any other time a player holds out or does anything the collar Moore is being selfish that group seems to be a much smaller voice than it's ever been because players have power and players are exercising. Power Cuyler Murray. Just happens to have more of it across more sports than most of us are used to it is an incredible flex on his part and one that I hope nets him what he wants out of this situation. You could choose what. What you love, and we can say, and I had this debate with our own Dr in Oaklawn Twitter the other day, which is. Yeah. You can do what you love but love doesn't feed the family. So Tyler Murray is trying to find out which league will give him the best opportunity opportunity to do just that coming up next at the end of the day. We got the four best teams, and they all got one thing in common here on ESPN radio..

"Which means today is the day where there is a deadline. For Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Cuyler Murray to declare for the NFL draft. Wow. Does he ever decision to make now he can declare for the draft and still play baseball and still choose baseball? So it's not the alternate decision. He's expected to declare for the draft today, but it is January fourteenth. And. The NFL combine. Is coming up in late February. He's doing Oakland A's camp February fifteenth the NFL combine is February twenty sixth. I'm gonna give you the Reader's Digest version of the Cuyler Murray story if you haven't been following it Cuyler Murray was drafted ninth. Overall by the Oakland Athletics is a center fielder last year. You got a four point six six million dollar signing bonus. He also got a clause that allowed him to play another season of college football at Oklahoma Baker Mayfield left. He was the starter. He blew up he broke some bakers records. He won a Heisman Trophy. Had a great season. And all of a sudden NFL drafts are giving them feedback. Saying you're going to be a first round pick in the NFL. Even though you're five foot nine and you'd be the shortest quarterback in the NFL since Doug Flutie. Quarterbacks are more protected than ever the games. More spread out than ever. Got a good arm. Great mobility, great, head on your shoulders. Scheme you into being an NFL quarterback? At least that's the NFL people are saying he loves football. He loves baseball. You already got the four point six six million bucks. But if you're a first round pick, you'll make plenty of money. He posted a picture to his Twitter feed this week of him replicating, the famous black and white Bo Jackson picture with the bat over the back of your shoulder like across your lasts while wearing shoulder pads. Now, no one is talking about him playing. Both sports doesn't seem possible. Given the day to day week to week year to year responsibilities of being a quarterback that you could just go in from baseball and come in in the middle of a season doesn't seem like no one's talking about employing two sports. Everybody agrees. He's got to choose a sport. And if you try to play both he wouldn't be drafted that highly in the NFL draft. Anyway. But the development today as Jeff passan at ESPN reported is that Oakland when they met with them and Billy bean met with them and their GM met with them. A Representative of major league baseball is marketing department was also there who's representing Cuyler Murray on the baseball side of things none other than super agent, Scott Boris. Major league baseball is putting on a full court press because they thank you would be a marketing coup for them to have the Heisman Trophy winner. Choose professional baseball where he'd be assigned to class a Stockton in play minor leagues for a few years over the NFL. And they're right. Now, I don't think the Cuyler Murray is that famous outside of hardcore football fans, I don't think you could walk down Madison Avenue, and he'd be stopped by a bunch of people but getting a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback to choose the Oakland A's and minor league. And eventually hopefully major league baseball over football would undeniably be marketing win four major league baseball. But here's where it gets interesting, and it gets a little complicated. But I'll simplify it. You know that there's a forty man roster in baseball. Those are the players that have major league contracts. But there's way more than forty guys in baseball team because you've got to have a single team AA team triple A team, major league team, etc. There is precedent to offer Cuyler Murray a major league contract put him on the forty man roster. He would still be assigned to say he'd still have to be promoted up through the minor leagues like normal though. They would probably do it on an accelerated pace. And they could give him another signing bonus. And he could be a professional baseball player on the forty man roster right away. And there's a report that he's asking for fifteen million bucks to pass up baseball. So there's a lot of elements at play here. One you go Cuyler Murray. Congratulations on using your leverage using your platform using your unbelievable athletic talents. To not only cash in and maximize your years of college football starting quarterback with Heisman Trophy. But also to say, okay, I'm going to be a first round pick in football. You want me to come play baseball four point six six million was nice make it fifteen. And who knows if those numbers are true. But you say you want me to give up football to take a long shot at baseball. Here. We go. Triple my money, fifteen million bucks. And apparently, the as are considering and willing to give them more. I have no idea if it'll be fifteen, but that's what they're willing to do. So the as willing to up the anti major league baseball, sending representatives to try to up the ante and incentivize him to choose their sport football GM, San you're going to be a first round pick Marlo Stanfield the wire one of the greatest shows of all time by by anyone's measure, and for my money by far and away the greatest show of all time says that sounds like one of them. Good problems. Right. That is a high class problem that he has to make first round pick in the NFL first round pick and major league baseball. It's a good gig. You could always choose one. And if it fails go, try the other one. Football. You gotta worry more about your health. Your brain long-term effects of playing the sport. But it's safer than ever to play. There's more fame in football than there is in baseball, undeniably. You be one of thirty two starting quarterbacks in the NFL. It's great gig. However. Your money's guaranteed in baseball. If you make it. Would you rather be Jeff some Marga? Or would you rather? Be Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson's a legend to sport guy chose football wins a Super Bowl he'll make nine figures in his life, though, question Jeffs margins. Just the dude could have been a first round maybe second round pick out of Notre Dame as a wide receiver very talented guy chose baseball. Good wear number three pitcher, right? Good starting pitcher. Jeff smart has got over one hundred million already guaranteed. The money in baseball's ridiculous. If you're just a good player. Not even dimension a great player, and you don't have to worry about CTE and brain trauma. But what I find interesting about this conversation. Is that a lot of people are projecting their own value system. And what they themselves would do as if any of us can imagine. There is a handful of people in the world. Who are as gifted athletically to play two major American professional team sports as Cuyler Murray, some of them work and our Dion Sanders or Bo Jackson, some of them are drew Hansen. But we're it's a small list of people who truly can relate to what Cuyler Murray is going through. But it doesn't stop anybody people in my world's people with the water, cooler, whatever, I usually do this. You should do that you should go for the money. You should go to the NFL get all of your endorsement dollars now or go for baseball. You your brain will be there's no CTE worry, man. This is simple. Cuyler Murray is gonna have generational wealth either direction that he goes just from endorsement opportunities because of how gifted athletically and how much of a star this is making him into. That Bo Jackson picture was not an accident. So he will be a multimillionaire just through endorsements and he's already a multimillionaire through is baseball signing bonus looking at more. And if he's a first round pick in the NFL, there's four years, basically, guaranteed. Four five six million bucks a season depending on where he gets drafted. If it is in the first round. So he is going to be generational wealthy. Either way. He goes whether or not he ends up being star now. Okay. Generation Lee wealthy. Maybe you only define that as twenty million plus for fifty million plus well, okay, fine. He's going to be set for life. If you manages his money, smartly, either way he goes all Cuyler Murray needs to do. He's to whatever it will make him happier. That's it. It's that simple. And I just find it funny. How people who have never seen Cuyler Murray. Play baseball. Would be outraged if he chooses football over baseball and conversely. People who have never seen Cuyler Murray. Play baseball. We'll be outraged chooses baseball over football. None of us have any idea. How good of a center fielder. Cuyler Murray is we didn't watch Oklahoma play college baseball. And that we did we're not scouts. The the pride and the projection of like, my sports better than your sport. Or I would choose this sport over. That's where it's just so weird. Listen, I get I'm in the sports opinion business. We're supposed to have strong opinions on everything. Door number a is a Lamborghini door. Number b is a Ferrari Cuyler Murray. He this is an amazingly high class problem. There is new I mean, listen, you don't wanna choose poorly. Like if you're going to be a. Silver slugger baseball player. And you're going to be Eric crouch is a football player. You should choose baseball. Right. I think we can all agree on that. Like, if you know in your heart hearts that you've got a better shot at being a star at one sport than the other choose that sport. But if you like the other better, choose the sport that makes me happy. A baseball team has him as the fourth best prospect in their system already. He was a top ten pick. And he's a multimillionaire from baseball today. NFL teams are willing to make them a first round pick and a multimillionaire in a couple of months. There is no bad decision. And I just find it mind boggling. That people are twisting themselves into knots. Trying to project their own value system, moral, compass, whatever on collar Murray, he has no bad options. Now. What he will do I find fascinating will it work. Will he try to play both how big of a deal is it for major league baseball? I find the Cuyler Murray story fascinating. And because many people agree with me and just find that fascinating. That's why he's going to be wildly wealthy. Either way. I can't name a single Oakland as prospect other than Cuyler Murray. But you get the Heisman Trophy winner. Playing single a baseball and actually is a shot to be good. Like, unlike Tim tebow. Very interesting. Conversely, if he answers the NFL draft he has to give back four point six million dollars. Could you imagine making? Hey, here's four point six million dollars to play a sport that isn't going to scramble your brain. Now. I'm good. I'm gonna go try to be the shortest quarterback in the NFL since Doug Flutie, and I'll make that money back. It's an amazing decision that he has. Full ride to Harvard full ride. The Yale no bad options. Berry interesting ones. Very different ones. Ones with a lot of pressure. And a lot of outside noise. And ones with huge ramifications for the sports themselves more. So for baseball than for football. We'll talk about that element. But I want to hear from you on this. I think it's really interesting eight five five two one two four CBS what factors of the Cuyler Murray story fascinate you. And if you firmly believe that there is a right and wrong decision here. I don't. But if you firmly believe there's a right and wrong decision for Kyle Murray. I want to hear from you eight five five.

"Now I would love to lie to you been hard sock and say that was sound from yesterday as clip Kingsbury at his in does introductory press conference as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Which is sounds even weird air. Right. However that was back in October a win cliff Kingsbury was still at the head coach of the under-performing, Texas Tech, red raiders. And so I'll throw this question to you who has more success Cuyler Murray in the NFL or cliff Kingsbury in the NFL, and yes, the this is a question that can't be as here in early January of twenty nineteen not a question that I thought we'd be talking about come October when cliff Kingsbury even made that statement that's a loaded question that that's a loaded question. Do you think I ask you the question? This is why you get paid roughly six hundred thousand dollars every six months to do this radio show with one point two five million dollars a year. I know you're deal you're paid to answer these tough hitting questions. What am I paid in rubles bitcoin? Yeah. It's a monopoly dollars. I wouldn't exactly say. I owe us and dumb and dumber. You might want to hang onto this one. This is a free red bull. Listen as little as I believe in cliff Kingsbury transition to the NFL he is going to have more success because he's actually going to the NFL how about that kings. This whole Kyle Murray to the NFL thing, I'm not buying it. Julie heard it we've heard nothing from him yet. Nothing right. The only thing we've heard is from the Oakland A's. This is only a marketing ploy by the Oakland A's to try to get their fan base excited to keep keep Cuyler. Out of pads. That would be that would be fascinating. Right because you are correct. This has been it's one of those things where you see a headline on ESPN dot com, or you see a tweet that all of a sudden you start going four steps down the path as opposed to actually clicking on it in reading it. Right. Been hard Peter burns here on best week ever. Because what happens is that you automatically assume colors. I've thrown my hat into the NFL draft. He has never said that this is the Oakland A's believing that he will do that. Now, I believe that's part of reading the tea leaves in them realizing when Justin Herbert of Oregon went back into the draft back to Oregon for next year and made that decision they look at it and go who else. I mean, drew lock in Missouri. Yeah. Okay. That's going to be good the kid out of Duke, Daniel Jones. Okay. Yeah. But who else in Cuyler Murray after the the I would say the? Above average, success of what the ravens were able to do with Lamar Jackson. And now we've seen we're Patrick Mahomes. People are looking for something different. They don't wanna be just good. They weather swing for the fences in hit a home run Baker Mayfield. Can you say that's a home run? It feels like a home run so far. And I don't know if that's because the Browns had set the bar, so low. Okay. Any kind of modicum of success would be appeared to look like a home run. But a lot of people were saying Baker Mayfield wasn't that guy. And I think he turned into that. Everyone's looking for something outside the box in Cuyler Murray going to the NFL is no different than cliff Kingsbury coaching in the NFL. There are certain owners at realize they have to swing for the fences. And if you're telling me that an owner is is crazy enough to give Kingsbury a head coaching job after his average success in college football. I absolutely one thousand percent believe that some owner slash GM is going to say I'm willing to take the same type risk and bring Cuyler Murray into my franchise. So okay. So are we are you sticking with murder Murray? Talk. Are we going with the Kingsbury talk? I'll let you pick. Choose your own adventure book. I wanna I wanna. Where are you at with Kingsbury? I think it's absolutely brilliant. Because here's one thing. It's the complete opposite of Jason Garrett. Jason gear it's gonna be Jason Garrett is Mark Rick. Okay. If you're a college football fan, he's going to be good. But he's never going to be great. But he does just enough to not get fired. Right. It's the old office space clip? He works just hard enough. Not to get fired. Sucks. Just hard enough. Not to get fired. There it is. And that's what Jason Garrett is cliff. Kingsbury could absolutely flame out. I don't know. Like, I don't think that there is a tried and true part of what works in the NFL. But what I do know is that you have to try things in a different way in. That'll exactly what is is this his collegiate head coaching record is thirty five and forty. So are you jazzed up about him just because he's different? Are you jazzed up because he's supposed to be the quarterback whisperer? Like what what are we jazzed up about about? I liked the fact of two things one that he brings in the NFL right now, if we look at what I don't think Jerry Gaza great quarterback like an unbelievable mazing quarterback. I think Sean McVeigh has this relationship with them and that it works fairly well same thing with Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback position and makes everybody stronger K for cliff Kingsbury. He is known as kind of a quarterback. And so whether it be Rosen or whether they make a trade him away and get Kyle Lowry or whoever they wanna pick. I believe that that's part of the success. Okay. But I also believe in the fact of trying something outside of the box. Guess what? Arizona state just did that in college football, right? Everybody laughed about our boy harm Edwards taken that job. Herm Edwards did a pretty damn good job in his first year at tippy. I don't think anyone's going to complain about that. So if you're the cardinals, and you don't have the perfect roster already set up why not think outside of the box and do this. You're not sold on it hard sock and I'm a little shocked. No, I just don't I don't know yet. Because listen, I wanna play we I know we're up against it here. But I wanna play this. Tony dungy? Tony Dungy has figured out that all of the excitement over the young coaches isn't necessarily about Matt Nagy and his offensive prowess or Sean McVay and his offensive prowess. Let's go to hear what Tony Dungy has to say about. What he thinks about these recent coaching hires? Concerned coach is not necessarily the firing. I don't like especially the situation like. Alone overstate works. Their one year allowed to try to get his program going. You don't like to see that. But I can live with that. But I thought the problem was is I don't think our owners really understand. What makes a great coach? And right now, everybody been kind of a copycat mode. Chain that have had success. The Chicago Bears had success with a great young offense coach Matt Nagy, and he's done a tremendous and Sean McVeigh has done a great job. Great young offense of code. But instead of looking at the big picture and saying what makes these guys successful? They're saying that's cookie. I just need an offense of coach I need a quarterback coach or an offense coordinator. But the fact is that Matt Nagy, and Sean the great hip leadership qualities, they they're tremendous young leaders, and it's not the Xs and os. But it's how they've galvanized their team. So I I think we're discounting a lot of people a lot of guys who have these same type of leadership qualities because we're only focused on offense of ordination quarterback coach. All right. So that's that's Tony Dungy talking about the recent firing of the Steve Wilks, but also the hiring of Sean McVay, and and Matt Nagy and what these owners. Looking for where I where I agree with coach Dungy is that is that. It's not always just about the scheme. It's about and leading these guys and great, Xiang. Oh, had success at Rutgers flamed out in the NFL because his style didn't translate to the NFL game p Carol did he had success from USC to Seattle Kingsbury. Looks more like Pete Carroll to me his vibe, his energy, the culture that he's going to set because as good as Sean McVay is the you know, what he's doing with his scheme and his creativity offense. It's under reported the culture that he has built and what he has put around that Rams team. And so that is going to be what is the differentiator can Kingsbury coach quarterbacks and working offense shore, but can lead thirty five year old men with families into the NFL through the pressure cooker. That is well coming up. I will tell you why the cliff Kingsbury higher to the Arizona Cardinals might be the biggest higher for the future. Of the of the gap in the bridge between college football in the NFL hundred million dollar deal. He has been hard sock. I'm Peter burns. This is the best week ever on ESPN radio. Cuyler murray..

"Cuyler Murray has been completed all season. What had it tonight? Chilled this moment white the season this fall for Oklahoma's quarterback Tyler Murray earning a significant individual honor as well. The two thousand eighteen Heisman Trophy is awarded to Kyle Murray below this is. This is crazy. This is a this is an order. Something that I'll never forget it something I'll always cherish the rest of my life breakout season, certainly boosting his draft sake. But a higher. Of course. That's if he goes the baseball Rupe? Which is something. The Oakland A's are apparently expecting Murray was taken with the ninth pick of the MLB draft this past spring signed a four and a half million dollar contract in June, which a lot of the play football for one final season Oklahoma before joining the as the San Francisco Chronicle reporting the as are expecting Marie to declare for the draft. Prior to Monday's deadline ESPN's, Jeff passan reporting. The as were told recently Murray would not be going back to Oklahoma. Although the team still expected him to report to spring training next month the plan would be to keep him in major league camp until mid March the as then leave to start the season in Japan and Cuyler Murray would report to a ball in Stockton, California, Murray, certainly complicated. His future though, by leading Oklahoma to that twelve and two record and a spot in the college football playoff. And of course, the Heisman our Mel kiper. And Todd mcshay have noted Murray could be a first round pick. Insider Chris Mortensen reporting Murray is getting first round feedback around the NFL ESPN insider, Dan Graziano, I think there's a legitimate chance based on the people. I've talked to the Cuyler Murray if the enters the draft would be a first round NFL draft pick and part of the reason is just the simple money aspect of it. His baseball signing bonus with the Oakland A's is four point six six million dollars that.
