"You're talking about a hyper nerdy concept. Of steampunk. Yes. Set in a time period that people do not fuck with at all. So I was like, it's just got the double negative in it. And I think it was the thing of like, how they kind of play, they were very, it was very Tarantino esque. It was Tarantino as for sure. And it was like, I think audiences just wasn't ready for that. The acting was a bit corny. But overall, I was like, this concept is actually pretty fly. You know what? But I'm not here to redeem wow I was 'cause I'm not going to die on that sword. I'm just saying give it another damn consideration. Give it another shot. Give it 'cause I mean, you're talking about a time that time period where he could do no wrong. Like, could you imagine being that good? Could you imagine even just being like, I did Independence Day, then I ran it back and was like, you know what? Aliens again, Men in Black. And they're like, and then they say, you know, I'm just like former slave who is fighting this neo confederate guy. What was he? I understand a lot of people. Absorbed because of the time. That's a lot. Do you understand the cost of just saying you ain't understanding us? I understand. No, I'm just saying. I remember seeing it and it was actually one of the few movies I've seen in my pops. Yeah. And he was just like, he hated it walking out the moon. But anyway, I had to get that to go down there, right behind him. Give that boy a goddamn mask. That's what I'm telling y'all right now. So I'll say this. So this is up against Javier Bardem from being the Ricardo's. I see that he should beat him. Okay, Benedict Cumberbatch and The Power of the Dog. I haven't seen that yet, but it is Benedict Cumberbatch. No, man, to me, it's like, give it to will. You give it to will it. Andrew Garfield in tick tick boom. Oh, that's gonna be his one that he gonna have to. Well, he got two. So this next one, and I haven't seen this one, but I've heard very good things about it, is Denzel from the tragedy of Macbeth. Nah, man. You give it to will. You don't give Denzel too? Come on now. If you ask yourself, he gonna say, give it to my boy. If you ask Denzel to go say, give it to me, give it to my voice. Yeah, no, yeah. He's gonna have his hands full with Andrew Garfield and tick tick boom. Just because that's one of those ones. I mean, you just cumberbatch, I feel like cumberbatch..

"He's kind of an idiot. Yeah, yeah. But he's only a bank robber. The great thing about shockers that he's BC level villain, he doesn't want to stick around and fight. He's just looking for a leg up to rob a bank. He just wants money. Yeah. Well, blue collar Bill. Yeah, same. But I think they handled the rogues gallery very well in this movie. I think it was a good balance of showing off the characters. Showing off their powers, but also seeing the human side of it. Trying to solve for each of these characters arcs, which they don't really go into what is going to happen when they go back into their universe as like redeemed even though they were plucked out presumably right before they died or after death. That was really like at what point do they get plucked out of their universe and where do they go back? Yeah. Well, they both Doc ock and electro remembered like dying. They're like, yeah, but I was having and then I was about to capture. Oh, shit. I think I died. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't know what happens. Yeah. Is Tom hall and doing all this just to immediately kill them? Yeah, to send them back right when they think that's where the plot gets a little thin is like, why is he doing all this? This is a lot of work for what ultimately ends up being nothing. And that's what I think this whole movie which I kind of liked, but I get what you're saying like, did they focus on his character? They were like, this is like the true Peter Parker, whatever's he's always carrying, loving, like, wasn't, but he's also a lot of works for low snakes. Yeah, and he was like, we're just making we're making you love. Peter Parker. Yeah. And it was like, and they did. I was like, they did it very well, but yeah, you think you're like, oh, man, he's like, I'm gonna save you guys. See you later. It was like an off you go. And it was just like, yeah, we saved ya. I was like, you're all better now. Go back to your world where everybody hates you. It was just like, see ya. So I thought they hyped up having a sinister 16 for so long. I kept thinking there was going to be a 6 one. Obviously, that would have been at the very end that just didn't show up. So that was the one I kept counting on. I was like, no, no, you only got 5. All right, cool. I guess that's presumably mysterious in the center 6, right? Yes. But I thought we were going to find out. Either Mysterio wasn't dead. I thought we were going to get some of the Tom Holland's own villains like vulture, or at the very least, either shocker would come back in some way, or they had teased scorpion in the after credits of homecoming. But I kept thinking that we were going to get a 6th somehow in there, that one that had slipped through the cracks and obviously it was veteran at the end that didn't even really show up. The other thing I want to talk about though that came well, it was a great team up movie with Doctor Strange in this. I love Benedict Cumberbatch. Yeah. Even though they had to, well, he's sorcer supreme, or at least not..

Spider-Man: No Way Home Review
"Eventually. What else do we have to see, sunny? Well, so the big movie out this weekend, and the big movie of the year really is Spider-Man: No Way Home. I mean, this movie is going to be an enormous enormous hit. I thought yesterday with a packed house at the Alamo drafthouse near me, audience loved it. Spider-Man, no way home, of course, our Spider-Man, it's got Tom Holland as Spider-Man. And if folks remember the end of the last movie, his identity had been revealed to the world by J Jonah Jameson who was playing a kind of Alex Jones like figure kind of conspiracy theorist, doing a very funny, very funny turn by J. K. Simmons. But this movie picks up right where that one left off. So everybody knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, Spider-Man and Peter Parker. He's got to try and figure out a way to get the world to forget about him and he turns to Doctor Strange, who has played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Cumberbatch, cashless spell that tries to reverse the race the knowledge that Peter Parker is Spider-Man from. Yeah, Doctor Strange should be smarter than this. You would think. He was warned not to cast the spell by his assistant slash sorcerer, the new sorcerer supreme Benedict Wong. And he does it anyway. He cast the spell in it. It messes up the very fabric of reality, villains from previous iterations of Spider-Man movies start pouring into Tom Holland's Spider-Man's universe, the green goblin, doctor octopus, the lizard electro. Hello, Peter. That's a great trailer, by the way. Hello. It's a really good trailer. I'm not giving away anything that's not in the trailer. I'm careful not to either. These are no spoilers here, really. And Peter's got to get Peter's got to get them back to their universe. That's all I'll say about that about a lot.

"Marketed towards viewers They also cracked down on fraud with several influencers and agencies accused of selling fake products and inflating sales figures earning them fines and bands from using streaming platforms But the biggest impact could come from regulations linked to Beijing's common prosperity drive As part of the initiative to reshape Chinese society authorities had cracked down on the culture of celebrity putting at risk one of the key pillars of the industry success For now it's business as usual But Bloomberg intelligence says that any potential fallout can't be quantified until regulations are clarified Single day posting a record 84 and a half $1 billion in sales and could serve as an indication about what holiday shopping looks like this season globally joining us for more Boulevard's chief north Asia correspondent Steven engel Steven What's your big takeaway That's a big number It is a big number and there was a lot of uncertainty this year because of the regulatory scrutiny obviously that Alibaba has been under for the last year and you know Jack Ma's a showman but he has been off the stage out of the public eye for the better part of this year And we really didn't know you know what impact that would have Because you and I have covered singles day together I think about 6 years ago we were in Beijing together covering it It is quite a show you know Taylor Swift and all the celebrity This year they took the high gloss out a little bit and went more low key They did not necessarily want to have that big electronic telethon like tally of gross merchandise value racking up every second billions and billions and billions of dollars in oh look Jack Ma's getting even more rich more influential more powerful So they kind of did away with that and focused more on promoting some philanthropic endeavors and aid to the rural and the poor and there's going to be actually a lot of costs associated with that according to Bloomberg intelligence but less gliss glitz and glamour no offense to Benedict Cumberbatch who is a celebrity there this year but you know he's no Daniel Craig right So you know they toned it down a little bit no Nicole Kidman no Daniel Craig no Taylor Swift but again a big shopping number It's a big shot in the arm for Alibaba Big shot in the arm for confidence in the consumer in China Tell us about the role of influencers you know even if Benedict Cumberbatch isn't quite Daniel Craig and influencers in the future of ecommerce where it seems to be even more advanced in China than in other parts of the world Yeah I mean KOLs key opinion leaders are critical in Chinese Internet And now as we just saw in that package you know shocking product But again it comes at a time of common prosperity and you know this notion of celebrity has been kind of knocked down a peg a little bit by some verbiage coming from Beijing authority So it's a delicate balance for sure but as we can see when you get a key opinion leader a celebrity shocking toothpaste or lip gloss or whatever it pushes product Not that we didn't need to have more incentive to buy products because look at that big record number on singles day But again it adds to the sales numbers Meantime Chinese tech stocks killing it right now Dee Dee as well relaunching its apps Curious what you make of this given all of the scrutiny from Beijing on you know not just Alibaba but Dede and so many Chinese tech companies Look there's been a confluence of headwinds regulatory and economic and due to the coronavirus in the Chinese economy And all coming kind of at once So there's been regulatory crackdowns not only on big tech but on insurance obviously FinTech obviously on gaming Obviously on property at a time when Xi Jinping as well just solidified his power base his mandate that the plenum This was a highly charged political year in China and he was solidifying his grip on that power and his control of what he thought was an out of control economy to in certain areas Monopolistic behavior on the part of Alibaba some fines against them Didi is an interesting one as well because authorities were absolutely furious when Dee Dee kind of ignored recommendations if you want to call it that from authorities and went ahead with that IPO in June in New York And did not necessarily have all the cybersecurity reviews necessary They had their apps taken down from China and there's a new report and that's why now that the plenum is over and the relaxation in property relaxation a little bit here and there There's a report from Reuters at least saying that didi might be getting their apps back up online in China by the end of the year They could be facing a big fine like Alibaba did but again getting those apps back up online is why there's a big boost to Dede sentiment right now All right Steven engel joining us on this very early morning in Hong Kong Steven always good to have you Thank you for joining us And that does it for this edition of Bloomberg technology Make sure you tune in tomorrow when we're going to be joined by open doors CFL Carrie Wheeler also the CEO of amplitude and Spencer skates as well as "Next l. We're at what if yeah man. You're our transition guys expecting. I was what if i read. I read late. Highlight headline and my mind ran off a thousand directions. It's it'll come up later though cobb so we didn't talk about the end of what if and then what if a crossover of all the other episodes afoot if and i did not enjoy in any way i thought it was fine Not as strong of an ending. As i expected plus the kind of open some doors i think by depositing the one black widow in two different universe plus they opened some weird doors with vision altron And his infinity stones working in different universes and outside that universe and things that the local show led us to believe couldn't happen So yeah it didn't bother making sense it it. The stakes steaks are always like super bowl when the israeli but like doing what if like it was almost like what if these steaks mattered and just it it fell apart for me and there was never like unless i'm missing an episode and other light episode for like the first two it was just darkness darkness. Well the party for though party order episode recorders. The way through was pretty. That's fair it was. I just thought it was so dumb. That i didn't enjoy it but that's where it was late Like i was not rooting for frat boy. Thor right like. I thought it was fine. Like i didn't love him i like. I don't desperately wanna see more of him. But did i do with or though so well. That's true. I just don't care for for a lot offer but i mean like they already went dark thor movies so there's not like most of the happy worth like what if what if has survived. That's lot appier. Fill the normally normal. What if what if always ends up in like a lot of the time is up in like dark stories. Right like always. What if the good thing that happened at the end of the superhero story didn't happen was actually a bad thing. Yeah that's true and liked tedious. Maybe that's why like exiles more the more the alternate universes that the exiles showed off or more would things got weird not necessarily dark like like drastically different so a lot of my problem with what if has traditionally been in comics has been that they try and shove like these giant twelve issue arcs into one episode or one. Sorry issue and the comic. What if this our tv show. What if jesus The tv show would have had very much the same problem where like it was like. Here's what's enough to fill like three hours eight forty minutes. Now you've killed any possible building. Most of us could have for that is previously For like the ip and like. That doesn't do anything for me like i. I don't know if you could make a what have crossover work for me. But even if you could that was not how i mean really doctor. Strange was the only only piece of that crossover that mattered right. Probably going to be in the next doctor. Strange movie if would make sense. I think probably is fairly strong. I think he may be. I mean yeah whether there was a moment when cumberbatch was doing interviews He did like two or three over zoom. They didn't show his face because he said it would be a spoiler for current project so that led to a lot of speculation for people that he changed his facial hair..

"I'm at my husband. And who is older than me? Yep. It's a year. It doesn't really count. But that does not technically. That does not countable. I like that you said. Yes. Because my wife and I are like around the same and every day I'm always told how are you really? I'm a couple of years older than my girlfriend, it's just insane to me at all. Yeah. Well, so I met him and it's his fault that I am now more of a nerd about Avengers because he knows the nerd. He was an nerd, and he took me to see Doctor Strange. And I was like, I don't know what's happening. What's going on? I really, really enjoyed it. I loved it. And I love Benedict Cumberbatch. I loved him so much. The imitation game. I love him. Oh my God. Love it. But so I saw it and I loved it and I was like, I need to get caught up. And so I basically binge watched everything. Nice. For like a month, just like went boom boom boom boom boom boom boom down the whole thing. And I am now obsessed. I think I've seen them more times than he has. I've also done like the super deep dive into the comics and all of the like, you know, theories and how they're similar to the comics and what's different and like all this stuff. All the stuff, so that's where I'm at. So I'm pretty new, but I'm like, I did like a crash course. That's awesome though. I didn't get into where endgame got me. I will say like, like you, like, before endgame, I went into the deep dive again. You know? Because it was like you did, honestly, like Mike did, where it was. And we all, though, yeah, seriously, right? And also like during COVID, all The Avengers movies. Oh my God. My girlfriend actually was like, hey, would you have a problem like starting from Iron Man and just doing all The Avengers movies in order and then doing all the batmans in order? And then doing all this. And I was like, you complete me. Have you put a ring on that? Oh my God. You are amazing. And all the ways. The theory behind that. She's absolutely the best. So we did all that, but I will say that endgame.

And where the band ways do the cheese? I want the candidate. You know, we don't me me welcome back Americans here. You and I am not playing. Fortunate son by credence because it is one of my favorite songs so that it's true, but because it features in Vince Flynn's brand new Mitch Rapp novel Enemy at the gates, which I'm holding in my hand is written by Kyle Mills and joins me now by Skype. Good morning, Kyle. Good morning. Did you drop fortunate son in because it worked or because it was your favorite song. A little bit of both. Yeah, It also seems like something Mitch would would listen to. All right does now I got to tell you I told the guys earlier after the shattered I'm going to bed. Because I stayed up way past. My, you know, I do. Morning drive early, So I'm up very early Every morning. I say it up way late last night and finished enemy at the gates For one reason I normally don't finish thrillers because I'm afraid of given away McGuffin. But I couldn't stop reading it which is like a home run for me. I usually put them down, so I don't blow it. So I got to be careful not to blow it, but well done. Are you happy with the way this turned out? I am. Yeah, it was. It was definitely a struggle because it sort of went from one. You know, concept to another while I was writing it, but, uh, it turned out kind of exceeded my expectations. It's got some very interesting subplots in it. But let's go back to the beginning for new listeners had new affiliates every year, Kyle So you took over the Mitch Rapp series After the late Vince Flynn died. Vince was a friend of mine. A friend of Duane's Come out to the West Coast go out to dinner with us, and I was originally skeptical. But now this is your seventh Mitch Rapp novel and you have clearly Got the character down, brought him into the modern age and continued the Vince Flynn legacy. I just got our Flint fanatics happy with you the way I am. Yeah, it's been overwhelmingly positive. I didn't know what was going to happen. When I first took it over. I thought maybe people wouldn't want it to be continued. Uh, but that was not the case. You know, Vince Managed to do what we all want to do is writers but almost never accomplished and that's created a character that transcended him. That felt real to people and they wanted to see that character continue. That they do want the character to continue they want Mitch Rapp. The difficult thing. Is making it. Mitch Rapp is getting it exactly right, so combination of many things and he's getting old. I love the fact he's getting old and getting beat up and has to go back to mountain biking and a variety of things to getting beat up. To whom did you turn on? Take advice on what happened to special operators when they hit 40, or self Well, you know, it's funny because his path has been a little bit like mine and that I'm sort of I'm really exactly mid traps age. I don't age him realistically, but Now he's gotten a little older, and I'm a former biker and I'm a back country skier and rock climber and I know what it feels like to try to get out of bed so I kind of use that. When when I talk about him here, I I knew you had to be a biker because there are a couple of McGuffin is in here where you're talking about the South African bike race, and I've never heard about ever anywhere. That's not the sort of thing that you randomly turn up when you're researching. When did you tell people about that race? Because it sounds nutty because as can be to me Oh, yes. So I used to live in South Africa and I'm a big mountain biker. But yes, it's a I got 450 mile race or something through the wilds of Africa, and they're always great pictures of people you know, getting chased by. God knows what animal are getting knocked off their bike by a gazelle, and it's an incredibly rugged race. Perfect for Mitch Rapp to win, though you know, because it's all about how tough are you he hasn't won yet is seven year old. Not yet stepdaughters involved in biking. Now I'm not a biker myself that requires coordination, Kyle so I don't get on bikes. But you and President Bush, you gave up your running in your trap along career to become bikers. Let's turn to the book for a second. It opens in Uganda, but I think people who have been very fixated on the Afghan hostage crisis. I am afraid that there are many Americans who like your doctor in this book are in hiding as we speak. I really do believe there are Americans and green card holders. Not yet citizens who could be citizens in Afghanistan hiding you convey that? That very awful process. Very well. Who did you consult on that? Because when you're hiding I think the time passing must be the hardest thing. Well, that's what I tried to portray. Yeah, it's a again probably a little bit from my clue climbing career of when you sort of get trapped somewhere, and there's nothing to do. You're young, You're in your tent or you're stuck somewhere and a few days could go by or whatever so That's something that's not portrayed that much and it's It's true. Also, I talked to, you know people in the military. That's something nobody talks about is the boredom between The excitement that can stretch out really long. So it's It's really a lot of boredom punctuated by sort of moments of terror, and I saw Two movies this year, both of which are applicable. I can't remember the name of the Danish movie a real story in World War two and Norway. Excuse me, where part of the Shetland Express the guy had to cross Norway. To get the Sweden to get away from the Germans, and it was epic. Freezing, hurt, wounded, True story and then I watched the courier just a couple of days ago, and that's a mole hunt, by the way, so it's very similar. Two enemy at the gates. Have you seen the courier with Benedict Cumberbatch? I haven't No, that's about all like punk cop ski, a true story and around the Cuban missile crisis, and the Soviets went on a hunt for their mall, and they found them mall hunt. Would you explain what an old fashioned mole hunt is? Because we've got one? I'm not going to talk about where, but we've got one in enemy at the gates. Yes. And this comes out of the sort of computer system of the CIA that there That they see that somebody high level as penetrated, uh, their systems and is turning up. Or is dug up a bunch of information on a guy who is the world's first trillionaire, the rich world written world's richest man, and so they ought to fig try to figure out who this person input infiltrating their system is Which isn't that easy, You know, because people like that hide their tracks pretty well. And so you have this lengthy process of them trying to stay ahead of that. Any damage them all could do and then also Sort of tricking them into providing enough information that they can figure trade. You know, narrow down who it is. Yes, There are famous stories in the espionage world of How am I six was penetrated how the CIA went on a Russian mole hunt for Decades. They believed they had a mole. They might still have them. All the FBI had been penetrated by people we've made. It's what the other team does. Now..

I mean you think you've pointed this out you know tatan wins poem to or the last woman to win palm door. Was jane campion. Who got best director nation for at the oscars but didn't win. And you know coming off. A year or two women get nominated for best director at the oscars for the first time. I do feel like there's so many female directors out there this year. That's gonna be like come on keep it going. Keep the make women as part of the conversation as much as possible not to mention the jane. Campion is kind of a legend onto her own. Do what the movie does so well is just like remind because it's been twelve years since she made a film and she's done you know tv obviously but it just reminds you of like what a singular filmmaker she is that her interests are so particular and the way that she Expresses those interests and you know here. She's a she's adapting from a novel. That's what sixty years old fifty five years old and and you're just kind of you after the movie you're like. Why did she pick. That is so interesting. But then obviously it's so clear also in hindsight like and i think that that kind of signature work after such a storied career puts her in in great and well-deserved position. I ha i went to the tribute where they showed clips of her work before she talked on stage at telluride any just like seeing the beautiful work she's done and then watching this film. I had that same experiences. Richard just like she deserves this. She's such talented filmmaker. I did suffer a little bit from festival hype before i saw this film because everyone i know was like this is the film ever and so i was like no. It's good. i enjoyed it. But it's funny. This film stuck with me more than any other movie. I saw there. And i was thinking about and talking about it three days later and and it's sort of like grew on me and now i consider it a film i really liked but i will say that festival hype is definitely still real buyer. Beware that that tribute was interesting too because reserve moderated by becky hide reporter. Jane campion was just not particularly interested in answering questions that this is how your your campaigns kicking off i love and she was just sort of hilariously charming in her refusal to participate and then the next morning at the film had a had. A big. you know well attended brunch. And she was just so effortlessly going from table the table talking to people. I think you saw her ability to enter. Vary singular person away at work. A room without being too focused on the campaigning. Part of it in that. We have to release scott move coming on the pike. Imagine the two of them working together. Just like passable veterans to jones is going to pretend this is happening and not be my guess. It's interesting to think about benedict cumberbatch who we talked about his role in this movie. It does seem like he is firmly in the best actor conversations. While he's about as different and movie stars you can get from will smith personas could not be more different but it is interesting to consider the two of them together like you know what what kind of a treat to have two different performances to potentially dominate the season. Going forward and another thing about jane campion's genius is that really figures out what to do with benedict benedict cumberbatch in a way that i feel like most directors heaven. They're like oh he should play these like like savant who solve crimes or invent computers or whatever and he's fine in those roles but campion saw the sort of darkness in him and just dragged all of it out and it's so effective but also. There's a hurt in there in this character. It's a really complex character. And it's the first benedict compromise performance. I've ever seen where i was like. Oh i finally fully get an. I think a lot of that credit should go to campaign. Yeah well i'm convinced me to wait. Isn't it the last thing i'd say about the movie is that you know just in terms of its. I think very first forward season that's coming is is it it builds. It has kind of thrums at this tension that you can't really place in. You don't really know where it's going. And she shifting points of view a lot and the last thirty minutes or so Are incredibly intense and the final few scenes are incredibly clarifying and make you want to revisit it..

"Courier is a new Cold War spy thriller based on the true Story of Gravel win, an unlikely hero played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Let's return to more of my interview with the film's director down the neck Cook All of the actors are outstanding. Rachel Brosnahan is very one to American audiences largely from her work and TV, which you talk about her character. I read that it was really a composite. Yeah, that's correct. There's a composite of actually three people in that character. There were two CIA handlers, quite senior who were both guys. Who are the real people who did that job, You decided to make a female character. There's a very, very important woman in this story. Who we couldn't sources tell her story because we just didn't have the screen time And she was a British women called Janet Chisholm, who was married to a diplomat living in Moscow. And when win wasn't going in, she would make the Penkovsky and smuggle stuff into the British Embassy so it could leave sort of in diplomatic bags and come back to Britain. She was a very important sort of another sort of hero. Do we want to serve onto the fact there was this woman playing this really important role in the story? There were women in the CIA at this point, but any woman in the workplace in the early sixties and I'm told by my female friends and colleagues that it operates now that in order to get anything done, the woman would have to sort of potentially less more than she was and make the guys think that they'd had all the ideas. And that was sort of written into the script. And it was really interesting because it's another reformist up to fusion. If you like it within that story, because the story is all about people pretending to be other things, So it sort of added to that and I seeing the first few episodes of Mrs Maisel and thought that I just fell in love with Rachel immediately sort of thinking she was so bright we went out to her, and she was really taken a descriptive, particularly that sort of element of The characters of playing this strategy and get her way and having to be very sophisticated, and she was again a pleasure to work with. Penkovsky is idea. You're perfect. You're civilians. The KGB won't.

"Everything. Rachel brosnahan terrific Indictment on her. I guess it might offend somebody to with the capture on page. Maybe what i appreciate though was with this character who could have easily been an exposition machine. They gave her moments of actual connection with the character. He said okay. This is at least working on a one to one basis. Like i understand how she relates to number batches character and you know benedict. Cumberbatch is characters. A wife is played by jessie buckley. Who is in the netflix will be. I'm thinking of ending things This past year. I don't know time has merged together during covid. So i don't even know if it was twenty twenty or twenty twenty one i think is twenty twenty but You know often you have the wife at home. And that's the character though wife at home but i felt like they really gave this character quite a bit to do at a certain point and you have scenes with her. End the rachel brosnahan character where it felt like they were giving these two something to do just by playing off of each other in a scene so while i i agree like the you know. The composite character is a little awkward If felt like they were trying. They're trying to do something whereas a lot of movies would have just kind of wedged into had been like i deal with it. I can definitely understand that Into my head where rachel brosnahan character. Emily's consoling jesse character. Sheila 'cause benedict cumberbatch Cats imprisoned by this point. And she's telling her like don't give any information away to the press but without actually saying. Oh he's actually a by like she's eating her in the right direction to protect her and benedict cumberbatch character and playing the game and she actually sends out the british male spy. Moss out of the room kushner's econ handle. So compensation she's clearly in charge knows what she's doing. I appreciate that performance. Say yeah yeah like. It doesn't feel like a thinly written characters feels like one that again. It feels a little too good to be true. It's one of those characters who's always kind of in the right place at the right time. Saying the right things you go. Well this doesn't. I don't know you see better cumberbatch. His character really feel like a person. Someone who's having to adapt in the moment and also the penkovsky character. He's far more practiced in this world than comeback but penkovsky feels like he's having to improvise and you know having to recover an awkward situations whereas You know the The rachel brosnahan character. You don't get that as much but that's it. It's something that kind of stuck out to me but it also really didn't impact my overall take on the movie. I think it was waiting for the next scene with the two leads. Yeah when she's on inches given east of sap for the next thing to happen in the okay. Can we see benedict Which i say often. But that's that's beside the point. I mean she also has the unfortunate role for any actor is your job is to move the plot along and that is largely what has to happen because benedict cumberbatch by virtue of being a spy. Big desire to kind of treat this as in anomaly on the inevitable march to progress like this and this is not who we are. Yeah this is not who we are. american exceptionalism even like a lot is black liberals will accurately callao allow the Richard premacy of trump and the racism that animated disdain. The it's one that he uses to disarm other wizards and it seems to be the most important to him as someone that is fighting evil but doesn't want do anyone actual harm and He first uses it in this film. harry potter and the chamber of secrets where he learns it as part of duelling club. And what is fascinating about the harry potter world and movies and universe. And what have you is that There's so much thought that's put into these magic words and that seems to be something that is kind of a you know. Be very classical. Things like abracadabra work hocus pocus to kind of have that kind of the lame things that people say to turn a fake wand into a fake flowers There's a lot of just really intricate work. Review: With the latest 'Grinch,' there's nothing much new
"So awhile ago, I wanna say number of months ago, we got shown a first teaser. Well, first of all got announced that oh, they're doing another grant of yet, another remake the Grinch for those that aren't aware. They did the original amid movie with Boris Karloff voice in the grant and narrating. And that one for a long time was the only one there was no Grinch anything in two thousand which I did Naji know this until recently that that's when it came out. It doesn't seem like it's been that long to me. But I digress. They didn't live action grant where Ron Howard. Did it directed it? Jim Carrey was the Grinch in it. In a lotta ways that it kind of expand on the story and kind of filled in gaps that we really didn't get in the book, or in the animated film that you know, we had had many many years ago, and some people were mixed about it. I personally really enjoyed it. I thought you know, Jim Carey did a great job the castle did a really great job had a good soundtrack, and it was a different fun film. And as I was watching the teasers for this new grant and the trailers, you know, where Benedict Cumberbatch this time voices. The grant turns out Keenan Thompson is in it as like a neighbor of the grant, and then then the girl from murder, she wrote her name's on the tip my tongue. It's she voices the mayor whose only for a little bit. So anyways. So this film. I was if you about it had my doubts, Mike, you know, what it could be good or it could be really bad. There's no in between. And I was able to see this movie this week. And yeah. I'm going to bring it to you everything about this film. I do warn you there may be some spoilers in here. I'm going to try to keep it as spoiler free as I can. But at the same time, I'm gonna you know, kind of this is going to be kind of a, you know, just true review. It's what's going to be so anyways. So this movie like I said has been come about just the grant it's computer animated. It's done by aluminum entertainment, the same company that's done. You know, the first three despicable me movies. It did minions which really my opinion were all actually really good movies, by the way, I had my dad's about minions to and I left going right minions. They did a very good job. So I thought you know, that going, you know, what I don't think it's going to be bad. I just didn't think. So. So anyways, I go and see this movie, which by the way is only like an hour, forty minutes long. It's not really a long movie. The live action version that Ron Howard derive. Acted was I think closer to two hours, and I'm just going to say it, the this movie is terrible. It has a really really really bad film is just man I was just like in shock. How bad it was.
