", the faster the object appears to be moving, the further away it is Wrap your head around that one this morning here. Good luck. Let's keep going. So I'll talk about the weather. Right now, anywhere from 30 to 37°, it's 37 at the lakefront in the city, as well as at O'Hare. It's 36 at midway 30 in aurora 35 and crystal Lake in Valparaíso down to freezing and Morris in 36 near Waukegan. You've got northwest winds. They're shifting here today. They're only running to 10 mph. They do gust a bit higher here today, get a bit breezier tonight, windy though, for your Friday. That's the day we get into that rain, rain snow mix, and then eventually that heavy wet snow. Most of your Friday is going to be affected by that. So today is pretty calm. You've got mostly glad these guys and increasing cloud cover even. So the later we get the more gray, it looks to get through your day ten hours today. We do stay dry. I think even most of your nighttime hours look to stay pretty dry before we watch that wintry weather roll in. Well, winter storm watch has been issued. It starts at 6 o'clock in the morning tomorrow, lasts until 11 p.m.. I think even the central northern half of this area may only be dealing with a rain or a mix, even through noon tomorrow, where some of those southern southeastern sections make it into more of that snow quicker and that all of us changing over to that heavy wet snow. That's under the winter storm watch. I'll show you on your forecast model as we go through time. Again, a cloudy sky in place here today as we get into tonight very slight chance for a little bit of a rain to a rain snow mix. Most of this looks to fall warmly tomorrow morning. Here's 8 o'clock in the morning, even noon, half of the area is still dealing with either rain or a mix. You're starting to get into some of that snow though for south and southeast of the city by noon. But really, it's not until three, four, 5 o'clock that we start to rush in some of that colder air called up to allow the bulk of this to fall as snow. And when it does, a heavy wet snow, I'm working on a graphic for your forecast snow totals here coming up in just a few minutes, 40° though today, 35 tomorrow, and windy, 41 on Saturday, 44 Sunday, 50s, Monday with rain, 40s, Tuesday, and upper 30s Wednesday. "Want all these bets so far. Yeah, That's true. One of all we do. We do a different one every week, and I'm pretty much cleaning up. Uh, anyway, so get in. Get in on that way you can The Air Force One was here. Right? President Biden. His first trip to Illinois as president has been here before. First official trip. I guess as president and he came here I was going to Crystal Lake. The lake to talk about infrastructure, which I'm not arguing isn't important. On some level, I was reminded of it once again. As I walked along the river walk and went under due so double bridge. Uh, I've got that. I thought he had nothing. This deuce Obel Bridge right here, Which is Columbus? Yeah, yeah. And looked up. And started walking quicker because I could see the robbing metal and the decay and stuff falling. And I'm like, Well, this bridge is coming down at some point. Wait until it rains and then walk under there. Oh, no, I'm sorry. You won't be protected from the rain under the bridge, but it's just it's cracking. Kronk read it. It looks like metal. And so I understand on a certain level we'll do you just wait for it to fall before you fix it. Like how does that work? I would hope they would fix it before. Yeah, Yeah, I've been on lower Wacker Cross. I make that left. Yeah, right right there, and there was water all well, there's the water is always leaking. But there was a poll cross it like something fell something yellow tape. Something yellow tape around. A giant pipe fell yesterday morning. Well, this morning I walked in there's water pouring from the ceiling. I believe that I believe that they're saying there might be an infrastructure problem. I'm just throwing it out there. I'm not saying infrastructure is not important. I'm not saying you don't have to keep up with bridges and buildings and roads. And I'm not saying that's not important. Fix the potholes in Chicago, which no, don't get started another generation, but I think the problem is And the reality of it is that while we talk about that As long as they do. Sabor Bridge doesn't fall into the Chicago River. Stop that bigger problem. But yesterday morning, three police officers were shot. Yes, that seems like a much more immediate problem. And when Biden stepped off the plane yesterday, got to the bottom of the stairs. Done to get to the bottom of the stairs. He was met by Mayor Lightfoot. Yes. Who apparently wasn't that interested in talking about the bridge is no, no, no, no. In fact, you saw Mayor Lightfoot and then behind her Toni Preckwinkle and then behind her governor Pritzker, So they're all waiting to greet him. But there's like a lion and receiving line. But this wasn't just you know, Prince could go to the back of the line. True. He's the governor. We maybe first their life within nobody else. He wouldn't see anybody. Here we go. Here we go. I have things to say. So instead of just the you know the obligatory shake the president's hand. He moves to the next person. He moves to the next. No. The in Mayor Lightfoot shook hands for I would clock at what Nick 23 minutes can't hand holding on. Oh, yeah, It was a long grip, and and then the aviators came off some classes, and it's a few pets on the shoulder pats on the arms and I said to you guys earlier, If there was a lip reader, I would love to hear. What they were saying here, not only her, but other people who got to spend time with Biden. Yes, you know, he started. I'm here to talk about venture thing, But yeah, that's great. Anyway. The point is, we're really concerned about the violence and that they that gun violence was a topic of discussion, although it's still not clear to me. What do Local politicians. What does the mayor of Chicago what does a state representative Expect the federal government to do about Gun violence. I know one of the things that was brought up with the straw purchases. People going in purchasing a person who has a clean record for like a bedrooms can pass a background check and then buying it for someone who couldn't and giving them the gun, okay? I'm sure that's an issue and it's against the law already. Do you know what I'm saying? Like, So what? We're way it's already a crime. How does that going to curb Gang members and and people shooting it out on street corners or targeting cops and illegal guns coming in coming in from outside of the state from all over the place, right? Well, it is a a topic of discussion if you will, and it continues to be a topic of discussion, Nick, It's got a little more of the details on it. Right. So, Yeah, he got an earful yesterday the president did from not only the mayor, but several Congress. Members who were on hand yesterday for this event in Crystal Lake. "Of the Republican Party, Maybe he can make sense of the world. Do I have you on? There You go. I think your Mike is up. I paint opaque can't hear piece coming in the studio to see if he can actually hear me when I talked to him, So what we'll be talking about is President Biden will be visiting Crystal Lake tomorrow. There's some some of the details are not really known or anything like that, But but he's going and the reason is, they say Pat, the event is not a political event. It's here to talk about policy. It's to highlight The American rescue plan that will help families and things like that. But I looked at sort of the list of where he's going and I will tell you, it does seem as if he's going to swing states places that the Democrats either narrowly won or maybe didn't quite win. And so it's interesting to see it is obviously wants to tell the policy. Is there a political sort of play here as well? What would you say? Yeah, I agree, especially he's going to McHenry County and that one of the most hotly contested races In the next election cycle. Be that congressional seat out there with Lauren Underwood, who was running for a third term. I think it would be, and that's a seat that is historically been Republican going back to the 18 sixties, And when Lorna Underwood beat Jim over Weiss a few years back, she won that seat. So that is a targeted race, even though we don't know exactly how the districts are going to look I think not only that, but think about it. There's also Senate races in Wisconsin and in Iowa and then Indiana potentially. And so all that good attention about what Joe Biden is doing what he thinks he's doing. I think it's probably primary, primarily political. Yeah, I figured And you know, I I get it. He went to lacrosse, Wisconsin. He's visiting Traverse City, Michigan over the weekend. He's going to some of those those places, but I mean, okay, so he wants to spotlight the American rescue plan. It is a big deal for Crystal Lake. For those who would you know, are excited about seeing a sitting president. They've never had such a visit before. You've been. You've been places where you see the president come and what's the What is this tend to be like, Well, it's It's exciting, exciting Whether you like that, particularly as president or not, Whatever party they're from its. It's cool to see the present. Remember when President Obama came back and went to Springfield And gave a speech towards the end of his, uh, time is President. Everybody was excited. It is the president of United States and you should be excited. Uh, get rightfully so you're you're excited about it, but it is It is a lot of politics, but the one thing that kind of storm clouds on the horizon, I think for The Democrats or anybody, maybe in the next election cycle. The number one issue seems to be rolling out to me as crime and what's and you think of Chicago? You don't think about all the great things we can talk about all the time. You think about crime. And I think the president's going to meet with Mayor Lightfoot that's got to be top of mind for for everyone is what we're going to do about this festering crime problem. No doubt about it. In fact, I saw some reporters were tweeting out about how that they were military military helicopters flying around the loop, and it seems as if that there's going to be a downtown stop. At some point. I don't know if that's been confirmed, but it does seem as if Mayor Lightfoot isn't going to go to Crystal Lake, but that there may be some sort of meeting here. Downtown top on her mind top on President Biden's mind for the city must be crime. I know that she had been Touting that they were going to get more federal support more support to try to crack down on crime. What do you think of those efforts? What do you make of that? Well, it's great if you get more support, But my issue is not necessary with the marriage with state's attorney, and you've seen what she did over the weekend. All these people are getting out these murderers. She's not opposing Paroles and this this idea. She came up with when she won four or five years ago that the way to enforce the laws here is a matter for some and let people out. It's not working, and we have a state's attorney. We have one here We have one. In some other states or some other cities like Los Angeles who currently under re competition. That's one of the problems of law enforcement or reducing crime is putting people in the penitentiary that actually commit the crimes in this notion that we let people out and it's going to solve anything. It's just not working. So you need you need a combination of things. And it's not just law enforcement. There's some broader, holistic solutions we need in some of these communities that are having problems. But that is a very important part of it is you need to enforce the laws you have and support your police. And that's not being done right now. Well, let me note is finger pointing. Is that usually a successful strategy have you found in the past in terms of crime fighting? That seems like what they're doing now. You heard very different sort of a back and forth from the police superintendent today in the Cook County state's attorney, Kim Foxx, you heard the superintendent of police say We're arresting them. We're arresting murderers. In fact, he listed several cases and he says they're out on bond there on a bunk. You do your job County County prosecutor and then she came out with John Williams today, Kim Foxx to regret it, and she just said Were there, not arresting enough people. We are charging 94% of those cases. Of course they're charging, but they're getting the broader perspective is I don't think she can get on any radio with a straight face and say that she's been tough on crime. She's not if you've ever heard her speak her hold. Just throw a whole speech is about It's more. It sounds like more like she's the public defender, and I think that's the objection. A lot of people have with her. I agree with your finger pointing doesn't help. But the reality is, I think the police superintendent is right to point out what's actually going on it at 26th Street. And the shop. She's run and how how terrible it is. I think a lot of people agree that even if people I think within the African American community are pleased with their the ones that are putting up with all this and a day in day out basis, So yeah. Kim Foxx. Probably is I in my opinion, the worst press here in the country right now, and she needs to do something differently. Or something needs to be done because she's truly ineffective. You know, you saw the pictures of the Tribune reports about the folks out on electronic monitoring. That's more. The courts cyst situation..

Finding Your Balance
"Good Morning. We love and I'm here in Crystal Lake Illinois. And wanted to spend a little time with you. Hope Everyone's fine. And Hope you're. Dealing with all the different new things coming up in your life like being students online or live for a combination of the two. Or going back to work or continuing to stay home and work from home. Or looking for a job or Trying to to decide what's the next course you want to take or thing you want to learn online. We have lots of things going on these days and I hope you're finding a way to be. Peaceful with that and have Have some dispassionate equanimity could time to work on our equanimity, right? That's the quality of balance. and. Taking a step back and being able to see things. Without. So much of our self involvement being able to be a little bit dispassionate. Find Balance and everything. So I always like to think of it as back away beck away from Mecca way not not out of indifference at all but out of. That Maybe we sometimes can be too aggressively putting ourselves in the middle of a situation. Really we are more of A. We can be more of a bystander and be more valuable to people in the situation. and. You know that feeling when you when you realize oh I, wish I just kept my mouth shut and not. Made that comment on facebook or not said something that you know that that made the situation not better but probably just. kind of hit the hit something that just immediately. Created. Created. A. A little minor explosion and a conversation or relationship. And sometimes that's because we we aren't able to become have that equanimity at work. You know there's a little. There's a little bit too much of our ego in a situation. So we just need to say something that maybe probably would be better if we didn't say it. I know that's one way I look at equanimity. Does back away? Think about the situation think about it a little bit more. find her own balance with an it without getting carried away by the emotion of the moment. And we can work with equanimity in so many situations and I think it's a beautiful quality for us to develop right now. Because we have a lot of opportunities before we we feel like. We are free from the effects of the pandemic. That's going to be a long time before free from the economic effects and the psychological effects and the physical effects. The way it's changed our landscape just physically the people we've lost. Maybe the people who were recovering from covid nineteen and the the. The. The long lasting effects that they might be having to deal with and how it affects our society in the long run. So develop equanimity along with compassion and loving kindness and. I am so which is no harm. So, we can have our hands full just with. seeing how we can those are the best ways we can be people in this world is to work on those qualities work on a deeper understanding of yourself. And then that's what it all comes back to because we have to know. What our little triggers are we have to know. We have to know about ourself. and. Then we can be more effective in a more Compassionate person for the rest of the world. So. Let me start with my wish. And I think that's good guidance I hope everyone's memorized it. Okay. He working on it if you haven't because it can be there for you when you need it. Or. The Saint. Francis prayer. May I become at all times both now and forever. A protector for those without protection. A guy for those who have lost their way. A ship for those with an ocean to cross. A. Sanctuary for those endanger. A lamp for those without light. A place of refuge for those who like shelter and a servant to all in need. By by means of this meritorious deed, May I never join with the unwise only the wise until the time I attain the Bonna. That close to you because that gives us. Wonderful Advice. And it also gives us a challenge. You know to reach out to be to be able to. See clearly what's going on in the world where we can help

Best Meditation Practices
"Good Morning. It's Tuesday morning June twenty third. And, I'm be Coney Huila from Blue Lotus in crystal lake. Well. I live in crystal, Lake Illinois, and the temple is in Woodstock Illinois. Out Today is Beautiful Day here. It's been a little stormy. How is how is your place? How are you this morning? How's your mind? Getting enough movement. Enough exercise. I don't think I am I have to work on that harder. Too much sitting at the computer. So today. I wanted to start with a question someone had sent. Asking if which is best one thirty minutes sitting day for your meditation practice. Or doing six. Five minute short meditations during the day. And that's a that's A. It's a good question. It's interesting. I think for some people. When they begin, the five minutes might be all. They feel they they can handle. All, they feel they can sit still for. They may not see. They may not be really committed to. The practice and just trying it out so if that's the case. I'd say try the five minutes as often as you can during the day and see how you feel. But. In terms of The real benefits of meditation I think working towards that thirty minute. Time every day is better for us because we are really then able to begin developing the stillness. The saw Mata the the tranquility our bodies. And the slowing down. And allowing us to then access. The the deeper benefits of meditation. And in the long run that's what will be. That's what will be. really wanting more and more of. But I don't think the five minutes if you can scatter those through your day. And give them a good five minutes. I think that's necessarily bad for everyone I I think. There are a lot of people who might start that way. and. If you're doing that, would wholeheartedly, you'll find pretty soon that you want to sit longer than five minutes because you might just be relaxing. And Ready to sit. When the five minutes is up. But if you've if you've committed your schedule to only having five minutes then. Your body's going to be ready to get up even if you're kind of longing to stay. So if you can only do five minutes do that and do as the. Person asking the question mentioned Stu. It may be six times a day. You can do that at work if you took a five minute break every couple of hours and you were able to sit somewhere. But really make your goal to be the thirty minutes because I think that's where the real benefits from our practice will show up in our lives, and the practice practice for herself of moving beyond just the. Surface, but really down into see. What's going on with us in accessing? Accessing deeper. Deeper parts of us. Okay. But that's a great question. What are we doing in the world? He stays at so up in the air. Right into. There's so many questions. I have a an upcoming retreat I'm really feeling. I have really mixed messages about that and. Having have to make a decision today doing it or not, and this one I'm one of the leaders for so it makes a big. It's a big. It's a big decision. And I, know individuals make their own decision about going, but I realized that this is what we're being faced with more and more as things open up. But not very well being opened up. We're in stage four now in the in this part of Illinois. So. We're we have more access to places that were still being. Really encouraged where mask into social distance and we, we see the statistics at all over the world. The numbers are rising again. And we have to make lots of decisions and. Hopefully make the right decision, so that may be a more conservative decision than we'd like to make sometimes. we may not be. There may not be a heavy weight of the majority behind us, but remember we have to. Follow the path. That were laying out for ourselves. We have to be true to what we. Honestly, see going on in the world. And evaluating that. And once in a while. Someone will remind me that you know I'm in that. I'm thinking about other people and then someone. Usually. My daughter will remind me that I'm in I'm old I'm in the high risk area. I'm one of the. Just because of my age. And then they're probably some you know. Some other things that are combined with the age, but just my age puts me into that category of I need to be really

People and It's then we have a parade through around the square and downtown Woodstock and then everyone comes back to the temple and we have refreshed months and fellowship and It it's A. It's a wonderful day. We get way we get hundreds of people at this event so this year and we cram it all into one day because culture in Buddhist countries. It's usually about a week long. It's a it's a big week long celebration with festivals all over and food and it's all about giving so it's definitely not something we do to raise money. It's something that we do to offer to the entire community and so it's a very special and it's springtime so we always remember. The Buddha was born outdoors and he became enlightened outdoors under a tree. He was born under a tree. He became enlightened and then his death was out in nature and in there in the wilderness. Really outside a really small village under the shade of a Tree. And so it's beautiful to celebrate in the springtime. This this wonderful celebration of important times in the life of the Buddha

Why Are We Afraid of Friday the 13th?
"In order to organize time. Human beings created calendars as part of today's dominant calendar system. Every year is divided into twelve periods called months consisting of roughly thirty days. Each all days are also grouped in two sets of seven called weeks and in Europe and the Americas a significant chunk of the population suspects. That bad things will happen whenever the Thirteenth Day of a month occurs on the day of the week called Friday like many human beliefs the fear of the number thirteen which is try skied. Deca phobia or of Friday. The thirteenth known as Paris. Kevi DECA try. A phobia isn't exactly grounded in scientific logic but the really strange thing is that most people who believe the day is unlucky. Offered no explanation at all. Logical order illogical as with superstitions people fear Friday the thirteenth for. Its own sake without any need for background information. The superstition does have deep compelling roots though and those origins help explain why the belief is so widespread. Today the fear of Friday the thirteenth stems from two separate fears the fear of the number thirteen and the fear of Friday's both have deep roots in western culture and most notably in Christian Theology. The number thirteen significant therein. Because it's the number of people who were present at the Last Supper Jesus and his Twelve Apostles Judas. The WHO betrayed Jesus was the thirteenth member of the Party to arrive. Friday has had a negative connotation because Jesus was crucified on a Friday additionally theologians hold that Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden fruit on a Friday and the great flood began on a Friday in the past. Some Christians would avoid beginning any new project trip on a Friday fearing that they would be doomed from the start. Sailors were particularly superstitious in this regard often refusing to ship out on a Friday and supposedly President Franklin D Roosevelt was among these ranks. Some historians suggest that the Christian distrust of Friday's is actually linked to the early Catholic churches overall suppression of Pagan Religions and of women in the Roman calendar Friday was devoted to Venus the goddess of love when the norse adapted the calendar. They named the day after Frig or Freya North goddesses connected to love and sex. The story goes that both of these strong female figures once posed a threat to male dominated Christianity. So the Christian church vilified the day named after them. This characterization may also have played a part in the fear of the number thirteen. It was said that frank would often join a coven of witches normally a group of twelve bringing the total to thirteen. This idea may have originated with the Christian church itself. It's impossible to verify the exact origins of most folklore. A similar Christian legend holds thirteen is unholy because it signifies the gathering of twelve witches and the devil. The number thirteen could have been considered pagan because there are thirteen months in the pagan lunar calendar the lunar calendar also corresponds to the human menstrual cycle connecting the number again to women but there are other traditions linked the number thirteen and Friday the thirteenth to unlucky nece in Norse mythology. The beloved hero Balder was killed at a banquet. By the mischievous God Loki. Who crashed the Party of twelve bringing the group to thirteen this story as well as the story of the last supper led to one of the most entrenched thirteen related beliefs. That you should never sit down to a meal in a group of thirteen. Another significant piece of legend is a particularly bad Friday the thirteenth that occurred in the Middle Ages on a Friday the thirteenth in thirteen o six King Philip of France arrested some of the revered knights templar and began torturing them marking the occasion as a day of evil both Friday and the number thirteen were once closely associated with capital punishment in British tradition. Friday was the conventional day for public hangings and there were supposedly thirteen steps leading up to the news. They're rumors of a secret society starting in the late eighteen. Hundreds at William and Mary called Thirteen's said to be groups of thirteen students. Who would meet in defiance of the superstition? The date was first enshrined in pop culture in Nineteen O seven when one Thomas Lawson wrote a novel called Friday thirteenth about a stockbroker who purposefully crashes the stock market on that day around the same time. Skyscrapers going up would often omit thirteenth floor. A practice that continues today. People Point to the trials and tribulations faced by the astronauts of the Apollo Thirteen Mission. And of course the wildly popular Friday the thirteenth horror franchise about sometimes villain Jason Voorhees and Camp Crystal Lake further spread. This ancient meam ultimately the complex folklore of Friday. The thirteenth doesn't have much to do with people's fears today. The fear has much more to do with personal experience. People learned at a young age that Friday the thirteenth is supposed to be unlucky for whatever reason and then they look for evidence that the legend is true. Evidence isn't hard to come by. Of course if you get in a car wreck on one Friday the thirteenth or lose your wallet or even Spill Your Coffee. That day will probably stay with you but if you think about it bad things begin. Small happen all the time. You're looking for bad luck. On Friday the Thirteenth. You'll probably find it

their vibrant displays possible typically absorb reflects certain regions of visible light spectrum each cell has it specialty in cells are different for his could actually absorber reflect any and all colors of the spectrum flynn said some species change more colors and others for example some will change shades later the darker well others changed the more vibrant bright colors there are quite a few species so there's a lot of variance among all of them they couldn't change all different types of colors in college that are invisible to the human eye millions mood changes its nervous system activates the sales to contract or expand when the animal is relaxed the cell stay close together together and reflects short wavelengths like blue a russian excitement pushes those cells further apart enabling each credit for to afflict longer wavelengths like red orange and yellow but if the naturally relaxed self reflect blue why are chilled out millions typically green like their surroundings this has to do with pigments sacks inside be rid of force when explained basically when millions relaxed they're naturally visible is green to help them camouflage would be green leaves and trees this is due to the natural yellow pigment combined with a relaxed state of the crystal cells which reflects blue light blue plus yellow equal screen it may not be easy being green but it's necessary for the million which has no real defenses blending in its best bet against predators so if the color changes are dude a special sale under the skin why are these facts external the most layer of communion skin is actually transparent beneath that outer layer live several more layers containing a variety you have specialized skills including be blue and white light reflecting arena fours what's really wild is if the community needs a dramatic quick change like when it's time to show off for potential made it quickly shed its outer layers of skin to expose be ready for us to direct some light in a hurry there's not a ton of research to support it yet but some scientists believe millions color changing abilities also allow them to regulate their body temperature twenty sixteen study demonstrated the bearded dragons alter their hugh based on their body temperature and since millions are after thermes an can't pretend body heat had their stereotypical submitting it's possible that maintaining a dark color allows them to absorb more lights and he today's episode was written by michelle come ski and produced by tyler claim brand says its production the i heart radio
