He just was annoyed by her. And it happened to be that her name fit really catchy tune that he came up with. I think it was kind of rude of him to do so, not having known her at all. But after everything happened and she actually stole these puppies, then I would say, you know what? She ought to be looked up. Come on. Especially since she was a public figure, if she were, then she definitely would be able to say even more of these things and totally refined. But I think under what we've investigated. She was not, in this case. She was not a public figure. She was an old schoolmate. So there you have it, Morgan and Chelsea were on the case. We figured it out. "I mean, your name is DeVille. And your license plate says, without the space, basically devil. So I mean, that's something that she kind of is leaning into anyway. I would say just do the nature of her last name. This vampire bat this inhuman beast. She ought to be locked up and never released. Again, she ought to be. It's not necessarily staining. But he said, he is saying that she's a vampire bat and an inhuman beast. I mean, of all of the lyrics, it seems like that is the most concrete as far as accusation accusation. But even then, it's like, okay, that's still believes that she's a bat, and even then that could be metaphor because no one believes that she's a vampire bat. Right. Yeah. Or an inhuman beast. Yes. If you're looking at literally, okay, nobody's believing them. The world was such a wholesome place until Cruella Cruella de Vil. Speculation, once again. So, I mean, there we go. That's the allegations. And it seems pretty weak. So if we were to go to court with this, I mean, there's the argument for her winning this lawsuit and the argument against. Uh huh. So if you were on team Cruella and who would you call to the stand, how would you fight this? So we only know the two different her two minions, Horace and Jasper, and she could pay them to say whatever they want. She wants. And they have no scruples. They would do it under oath, doesn't matter. So that's who she would call to the stand. So can she prove damages, even though everything is speculation? Can this still be proven that he ruined her career? Because if she is a fashion designer, then I mean all of this is opinion. So it's really hard to for her to come up and make a real powerful case that it changed her ability to make money..

"Now, Chelsea, when I was initially talking with her, she's like, okay, well you go and you do the research of 1960s British defamation law and I was like, okay, but I just gotta be a book. I didn't go down that rabbit hole. So in general, this is the in modernity. Here is the British perspective. And this is probably the one that matters more because of the jurisdiction of where this is. So English law is particularly different than American law. The onus of proof isn't on the person who claims they were defamed, but the person alleged allegedly guilty of the defamation. So it's complete opposite in the UK, where the person who did the defamation or allegedly. They must prove that their work does not defame the person in question. And I think this is really interesting that it's so different. Yeah. So in this case, it would be on roger to do all the work and show and it just doesn't, it seems the other way around, the person who's being defamed has more skin in the game, I guess. To really show and they know the specifics. How would roger know inner workings of Cruella's business dealings? Oh, okay. Well, I had a contract for 20 million for this. And because of this song, they cut me and they told me it was because how would you know that? So that just seems a lot harder to prove. Yeah. So in this case, roger needs to prove that his work does not defame Cruella. So I just a big, um, okay, okay. And in general, these laws need to be applied. Are there only really applied to people who make these claims as informative fact, for example, journalists, for newspapers, documentaries, it's people who are supposed to be reporting on the truth and saying, this is a fact. "Been keeping up with the Amber Heard versus Johnny Depp defamation case? I have. I have indeed. And what are you? I don't know very many people who haven't. If you're online, you're following this. I mean, I'm just gonna put it out there. It is a circus, like the entire thing is a complete circus, but it's one of those car wrecks that you just can't look away from. So yeah, I have definitely been watching it. Yeah, this is a very interesting defamation case. And as I was watching it, I was thinking, you know what? This would make a great nerdy couch discussion. Or something somewhat related. I've actually had this idea in my head for a while, which is, you know, roger sings this amazing song called Cruella de Vil and it's about Cruella de Vil. And he's really beating up on her in this song as I thought, you know what? Could she sue him for defamation? So here we go, nerdy couch discussion time. Let's talk about the great defamation case of Cruella de Vil versus roger. Kuala DeVille, is she a public figure? Because if we're talking about defamation, typically if you're a public figure, you're kind of fair game. That's why in a lot of songs you might hear references to different celebrities or whatnot and presidents and presidents and a lot of rap songs, a lot of pop songs. Yeah, they'll just kind of like throw a name out there, right? Yeah. It's unclear in the movie. And so I kind of broke down where we are. I think you and I let's just we'll discuss it and then we'll come to a consensus on is she or isn't she? So in the 1961 animated film, it's clear that she's old school friends with Anita. And I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, this never made sense to me, because Cruella is freaking old. And Nina is young, youthful, and beautiful. So moral of the story, just don't do drugs, kids. Dearly devoted. I just don't buy it. Maybe she went back for her college degree. So here's the thing. I did some online courses and there was a now who was one of my dearly devoted old schoolmates friends who were like 30 years different. Yeah. I sang at her daughter's wedding kind of thing. Yeah, and so there was like this on campus event that we went to and she was also from out of town and I was at it from out of town, so we went. We met up and we actually were roommates, quote unquote. We shared a hotel room during this event. And so she jokes around that we were roommates in college. So it could make sense. I see that. Okay. Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch. But nonetheless, they are dearly devoted old schoolmates. So fine, I will take that as canon because that's what's presented to us. So in the original novel, she's a pampered and glamorous London heiress, obviously she's the former schoolmate of misses dearly, which is the name in the book of Anita..

"I really dislike the trend of trying to humanize some of the female antagonists but only because it's not done very well. So I think she's talking about kind of more of the live action films and stuff. Live action one. So maybe like Cruella, for example, maybe. It reminds me of that they're trying to kind of humanize the villainous stuff in them. And then he said to kind of like, and you write, maybe if the woman would it be a massive issue, I'm just trying to think back of all the ones that we were talking about. If they wanted to do that thing. So if the evil queen, for example, just wanted to kill her. So if the evil king say went to kill his son, could he do it or could he find a reason and would it be like, oh yeah, that's fine. That was all right. They really don't. So Tina Knowles goes on Instagram and goes off on everybody. All you socially conscious activists who called out bay for wearing the famous 128 and a half carat Tiffany diamond, which is from a colonial mine in kimberley, South Africa. If you haven't heard, Beyoncé is the fourth woman to wear this big diamond. First black woman, so of course we got a big controversy. You know, it's a whole thing. Jay-Z's in the end. They look awful. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z's gotta get rid of the farina hair. He looks like a little rascal. It looks like I wish I had a watermelon. You gotta stop it. "Right on main street where they take the center of whatever shop. You're walking by and they mix it in with the facade and put that smell right on a main street for you usually like baking bread or something like that. That makes you feel really homey on main street down. That's yeah those candy net things. Oh yeah they always have like a gingerbread smell during the christmas season completely. Which makes you wanna buy gingerbread. Yeah and the part. I've gone on soaring. One of the greatest parts is like all of the amazing sense. When you're going on sore sure you wanna talk about people that have done spell vision or ice bell properly. Yeah it's like that. Right in your like your. This is pretty great. I'm all about this. This is pretty exciting. Stuff the smells on soren are almost too good. You'd like to the point where like when you're flying over africa and you can smell the grass exac. It almost makes my eyes start to each like. I'm having an allergic reaction to it even though it's just the smell because you know smell is a really strong sense. People don't give it enough credit but you have a lot of a lot of your being depends on your sense of smell and so like you. They can easily trick you into thinking things by just pumping smell into your face. Like when you're when you're on the earth spatial birth and you go through the burning of alexandria and you can smell fire. Yeah it's like what it's such an unnecessary thing but such a cool thing for them to add into that area because it makes you feel like you're actually there it's great it is amazing and that was my thought on it too. Is that like. I don't know what shows they would put that with a little box that you're watching tv and then just the nice meals like that started coming through. It would be pretty cool. I would love. I would totally be all about it. But of course now it's going to be all the others that why they don't make them anymore because people kept on saying. Oh you know what i really wanna smell is flatulence league. Jack and i have no idea exactly how it worked. I don't know how much cartridges were and if it was even refillable and how much like an how does that even work. Does it have to connect with a dvd. Had like specific gone house. Just tell it to pump out specific smells like can you dictate what it gives you a fancy room. Air freshener right. Yeah yeah. But i i mean i guess essentially but that's what would make make it so great if they could hook up to like disney plus so if you're watching us pacific movie if then you could spell certain things certain times. That could be pretty cool. I don't know how great it would be. Would you really spend a spent on something like that. And but if disney did it for just plus and it worked out great like i i would totally buy it. You know to have an at home experience. I think it'd be superfund. Here's a thought on it. Though i've known a few people that Did not have use of one or more of their senses. And maybe if you could replace some of the experience with the sense of smell to to offset like maybe someone who's hearing impaired To add another a flavor for lack of edward to their viewing experience. Maybe it would help or someone who has poor vision. Maybe the smell could help them. Kind of enjoy the film more You know it might be nice in those kinds of situations. I think so but my issue always runs into. I remember as a kid. I had like scratch and sniff books and things like that and after you know enough time they just don't smell no at all or good anymore. You're like what. What is the smell even supposed to be. You know after a few months of it just sitting there they sent scented. they smell like sticker. Yeah because we have like we. Have you know airfresheners in our house and we have to change those out like every thirty days or so. Yeah but like. I can't imagine being willing to pay a lot of money to have that in conjunction with a film or something. It feels like a lot of extra work. Yeah i might pay like one hundred thirty bucks one time and then and what movie would you want to smell. I have no. I don't know. And i don't know how good that it would even be Is really walk in the chocolate fact. I mean come on. That would be a fun one to smell. that is just a given. Of course sure. I would totally work. I'd be dan for that. One are we could we could. We could smell cocoa 'cause they have like all the food cooking and they have the flowers and stuff. It could be nice to see. That could be very nice. We down for that With the jungle cruise. You really want to smell them. Awesome I mean i say if you could smell. Pirates of the caribbean water at home. i'd be all about like the authentic real smell. Yeah that'd be pretty great and obviously like when you're on soaring and you go over the top of fuji. Yeah that smells amazing. Yeah so you may have to exaggerate the smell to make well. Yeah i think that's a given like you don't wanna actually just put the smell of grass. You wanna put freshly cut piles of grassley perfect. You're like oh wow. That's a smell of grass. I'd be all about it though. I mean i would be very interested in it. But i'm sure be just a fad would die off exactly. Yeah i mean obviously it did because it has not continued and who is coming up with that. I don't know some texting thing that fells that nobody bought o so some tech thing that failed because nobody bought spent. Isn't that just how everything goes in our world charity either at it's amazing or it fails because nobody buys it but if a company like disney were to support it and do it specifically for their their platform it would make it all that much cooler but what. I'll tell you what it would be fun to do. Is they have quite a few games like this already. But if they had a game where you were walking around disneyland And then they would pump in the smells as you're walking around disneyland. Yeah i think that would be really fun. That walk down mainstream and smell main street at home. Right dot could be really. That'd be. yeah we totally do that. Interactive experience at home right. But i would watch it. I'm gonna point this out and not knocking to name any names because that's not fair but there is a. There is a company that claim to put out candles that smell like disney attractions. And i i bought the pirates won. Because like i said i love the smell of pirates. I'm one of those weird people that loves the smell. The water and pirates of the caribbean. I think everybody does. It's such a weird specific thing And i was so excited and it did not smell like that. At all and i was i was a little upset about it I burn the whole thing. Of course. Because i'm not gonna waste all that money that is spent on it but i was not happy about it. Bright you find other candles as but more like disney than that. I'm pretty sure you could. And maybe that's just the one that they couldn't. I mean they said specifically on the website. I think that they're like we can't make it. Smell like roaming. That's a weird thing like. Why would we have a smell of bromine bromine into the wax bromine end. I'm sure that'll be great burning in your house. You know completely. Save non talk it's probably fine But if we ever.

"Much people are going to be worried about other people. Judging you for stepping out of the norm you know about buying. A yellow tie wants. Remember that for a couple of weeks do we did not debate it for a couple of weeks. I think i pretty much said you should totally by a yellow tie and you said It might be too ostentatious. Yeah or crew ella. You are not if you won't even wear a yellow tie. I totally would. It's the fact you had to wear a tie that. Oh that's i mean. I i mean i've done my time at a tie and i definitely do not miss it But the show is great. Quite honestly can. I just say though how excited you are about her metal. Tie which you is so cool. She has a whole scene where she's wearing like a chain link metal striped tie on like i would only wear one of those. I think a lot of what made the movie fantastic is that it was shot in real places right like we watch some of the behind the scenes filming of it and place it was actually shot like on-scene in some places that made it phil authentic so much. What we've seen recently has been on green screen shows which is kind of interesting. But i was very very very excited to see that the real show. Yeah well there's a there is a texture and a feeling that you cannot replicate no matter. How good your your blue screen. Green screens work is there are just. There's somethings that. You cannot replicate and one of those things i think for me is the kind of feel of london that they're able to produce with real places like it just feels like. I've never been to london. So i can't say whether or not it's accurate or not but it feels historic just looking around it. Just has that feel to it to completely. It's like the greatest city on earth. People say oh is it. Oh they say yeah. They say that new york is a second. Oh i've never been to that one either. So i guess i've just seen the bottom of the barrel cities. Apparently the land is not bad. We have nothing to complain about here. I just i had such a good time with correla so much fun. One of the other really fun parts about it is in the end scenes on the credits. When we were looking through executive producers to the people listed was none other than emma stone. Of course and glenn close glenn close because before we even started. Use that. I really hope glenn close just makes a cameo where she just like walks through like has a line or something you know. And she wasn't in. It had all but to see her name in the in the credits. You're like there we go yes. There's her her contribution and if they were to the artistic direction of this show it worked out fantastic very very exciting to see that. That made a very good. It also really felt so people ask all the time like what my favorite movie is right. And i had a couple of different answers then in just recent years as discussed earlier in the podcast it was you know dabble wears. Prada is very much. Become a my go-to show like your. I can watch that show nonstop day or night. It doesn't matter. I will never say no to w so many copies of it that we could potentially be running it in every room of the house simultaneously so you could just walk around the house and still be watching completely accidentally. I loved apollo. Thirteen thought was great. Show and there's a few other like captain phillips. But i've only watched either one of those shows two or three times sure delaware's practice probably like fourteen. Yeah and and then with this show. It felt like a devil wars product but very extreme like an unrealistic interpretation of it which made it so unhinged ridiculous. yeah which was made a greater and apparently. That's what like the devil is probably was. The book was a little bit more. That like was a little bit more aggressive and whatnot And then they're like no. We had to make this reality somewhat. I guess you know But then you said that you saw that One of this green. What was it. Yeah one of the the People that did a draft of the screenplay of the devil wears prada also did a draft of crew ella so you can kind of see that they were kind of pulling in the same direction and i think a lot of people have made that connection with correla to the devil wears prada already where they're like. Yeah it feels very that it feels very miranda and andy kind of thing going on but the great thing i think about cruella is that they don't shy away from kwela a villain. Yes he's not. She's not a a tortured good person that gets pushed into villainy while she does have things that push her that direction she is she says herself. I'm just a little bit mad and she is she. She turns a corner. Where you're just like yeah. She's definitely got off. The deep end was the other really fun thing about the show. Is it was kinda like villain mega villain. Yep of show. Right like there was jokingly. I've decided that the reason that i liked as much as i do is because it's basically cat woman from batman returns oh as a disney villain. Yeah and that's what it feels like to me very much. Michelle pfeiffer going insane and owning all oliver crazy in that movie. That's what carello feels like to me. so good oh so good and then even that but a lot of the like. I didn't even know that Emma thompson was in the show. Thank goodness knows. When she likes showed up. I was like hey is totally p l travers back in the flesh drivers and we thought she was meaning as travers. Wow now you see her in. This showed you like so much better totally tang it all together. And she wasn't like i mean. She was absolutely horrific but then when she was like no. It's kind of great actually. Like there's just i don't know what it is but when those people that are just awful in general pay you a compliment. There's just something so thrilling about that. Yeah and even in the movie world when she pays somebody a compliment. Even if it's just a middling ridiculous compliment like. I think you're something yeah like. That's not really a compliment. But us feel good for her for getting that ridiculous compliment. You know only wanna give that complement. Now you're not allowed to give me that complement areas totally for work for work. I'll get you'll get a lot of people in under your business wise if you're magin so really are something. I can't even do without laughing. Work but fantastic. Good times across the board all around. We've already watched it twice. I i don't remember the last time. I watch movie twice. Well actually that's not true. It was we do product. Of course no no but we watched them also the Over christmas when they came out with mary poppins returns accident. We saw twice in twice and not intentional just happened. Yeah and it was fine. It was fine totally watches when a third fourth and fifth time yup immediately rule. I watch it right after. We're done recording which stopped. Because you.

I think they're just trying to they're gonna make it. Its own thing like they want to give you a prequel to. I would think more one hundred one domains. The original animated movie. Not the glenn close movie. So that's your opinion. That's not based on your time spent at disney. No that's just my opinion. Get i mean we are very. We are very opinionated on this show. So i have one last question. I know you usually don't thinking to it too much just and music and movies but did you like the musical moments okay. 'cause i know there are a lot of times you like. I don't i don't think too much to it. Yes i think. That's why i loved it too. I love the songhai. We'll songs i think of it. It's when it you think about the score and stuff. i don't think of. What about you cinnamon. Did you like the music in the film. The songs that they picked. Did you think it was to clear shade for them to use this. I love that time periods music show. I liked any lasting thoughts on. Crew ella ask you this. Should people pay the thirty dollar premium two one at home or go to the theater. Sincere if they if you're one or two people go to the theater. You're an an homer with like forty five kids definitely thirty dollars on forty five i would. Elena or whatever stella helena's star and just be a good designer. No because that would be a stella. Maybe they wouldn't crillon. It'd be a stella. I know i liked. This movie is about corral. Well maybe they should make called. Estella where she goes back. She has a split personality. She goes back to the byerly bipolar. But when me the same. I did really like it. I love i thought emma stone was awesome and every scene that she was in like she she was great and even emma thompson as baroness she was i mean you wanted to hate her. She was like she's kind of a b. But i was twelve so yeah it was easier heater. Hate professor trainees urine and kidding kidding right. I heard her. i hated her character. I gave it four stars because it was different than i thought it would be it. They did a really good job of carving out story for this sort of you know not timeless character and i thought it was really fun. I will watch it again. They may. "Conjuring talk about the actual movie theaters in a sack. The conjuring has return. This movie's been sitting on the shelf for y you can tell because they just turn burn those conjuring movies like nothing and the conjuring i think of all the horror movies that were created and thrived in the last decade. I would say the conjuring is the number one name. Because you've got a entire universe that has spanned in less than a decade or just about a decade and the latest movie to come up is the conjuring. The devil made me do it. Which again is going to compete. Einon say win but compete with crew cruella and of course last week's big winner a quiet place part two. So i want to hear your thoughts on the conjuring deal made me do it if this was last year and it come out originally when it was supposed to come out. I probably tell you. I'd be done with the conquering franchise. I think people would probably have franchise fatigue by now and the numbers would be going south. I don't know what to think right now because people are just hungry for anything. Seemingly after last week's big big numbers for the pandemic the biggest numbers ever for the pandemic. "Look we're going to disagree a lot about like. I don't think i think this movie. A stylish. I think is extremely chaotic. It's got a lot of gritty edge and that pg thirteen. I think a lot of critics were expecting them to do something twisty other than what they offered in the trailer. And you're going to see a whole lot of bad heartaches. I think your take is the most hilarious and i enjoy but i i. I've seen a lot of stuff online today without really opening anybody's post because i didn't want to read anything until we recorded about people being convinced that this was just some kind of content and money. Grab and that. It doesn't have an audience. I am this movie's audience. I i am the targets. Emma graphic i am the target market for cruella one hundred percent i loved the fact. That imma thompsons characters intro music. Her theme music is fantastic. It's perfect it's spot on. I loved what they gave the differences for a stella verses cruella i liked everything about this story is set for they did a semi posthumous storytelling style. At from the beginning. What was boy. Was that a what we had about that was. It's kind kinda like fallen but it's because that's not in this film like this is so and so is not in this film so i don't know why they open the film that way. I get why they thought it might have worked. But i know actually know why they did it. I know exactly why they did it. I just don't want to say it on this review. Because it is a spoiler spoiler and we don't talk about it off line so please just off and note because i would like european. Why did you know why. But i want to hear your opinion. I know why. I think that isn't about money. I did it still make you tell me properly. I like though. I did like it as a device in the sense that i felt as something i can say. I think they poke fun. Direct fund at some of the devices that disney's known for using in stories. I think that it was a great way to undermine some of the obnoxiousness being a live action. Adaptation of a kids book.
