Why Is 'Mayday' the International Distress Call?

"Stuff, Lauren Vogel bomb here. Mayday is an international distress. Call used by airplane, pilots, captains, and some emergency response personnel, the US coastguard deals with roughly twenty five thousand distress calls every year, some of which involved the mayday code. The signal arose just after world, war one as air traffic between Britain and mainland. Europe increased dramatically. All nearby nations needed an internationally understood signal that would alert authorities urgent aircraft problems. So, why not just use the standard? SOS call that Navy captains used when they were in trouble. Well ships communicated through Telegraph, Using Morse Code, and this technology made SOS of three dots, three dashes and three dots unmistakable by contrast aircraft pilots used radio calls and SOS, owing to its continents could be misheard as other letters like F. One Frederick. Stanley Mockingbird, a senior officer in London was put in charge of finding an appropriate code word. He reasons that because so much of the air traffic flew between Croydon. England and Paris France. It might make sense to use a derivative of a French word. He came up with mayday based on the French pronunciation of maybe or help me, which itself is a distilled version of eighty or come help me. The US formally adopted mayday a distress signal in nineteen, twenty seven. Due to radio, interference and loud ambient noise, a pilot's told repeat the word three times when they used the call. This repetition also serves to distinguish the transmission from others that simply refer to the mayday call. Although any situation in which it's being used as probably a little panic filled the federal aviation administration encourages pilots to offer specific information in a specific order, so that emergency responders exactly what they're dealing with. I told repeat. The word made a three times then the station address the aircraft call sign type the kind of emergency, the weather, the pilot's intentions, the current position, and heading the altitude, the fuel, remaining in minutes, the number of people on board, and finally any other pertinent details.

morning there bouncing off walls they bounce off the table they wind up sleep pick for a series under the couch where the hell did rule yeah I've you got stuck under the couch spitting on that so I have room I put room but when we start the show at ten and I come back at two in the and it's nice and clean and there doesn't ever freak you out because that of for my house went to sometimes like you're sleeping and you forget nothing is going on and it like kind of freaks out a little bit something I don't even I'm not sleep okay but the mice the rodents that I hear it running around in the pantry I can hear them obsolete all yeah now we we actually had a little bit of a scare with there like a month ago you know I saw the other night though and I live out in the wilderness I since you live in a farm and there was one that I want to sleep outside was so hot in on my daughters run is really hot and I slept outside as long as I could and I we have we have a big trampoline on Saratoga on sleeping a trampoline a could do when the kids were little but then you know you start getting bad and you wonder like this is the animals domain at night right thank you especially where I live so I started to get weirded out that a coyote or something or fax to come up and on the couch in a sleeping outside but the other day you know I get up weird hours I left a window open in the kitchen some close the window and there is the biggest cat first aid in my life she stared me down and I don't know what exactly it was could have been a fax could have been a coyote Wile E. coyote I'm not sure that he wasn't budging he was giving me a stare down so yeah sometimes you got to be careful about about noise you hear in the middle and I actually don't know what they what they argue about the mountain lions is gonna say Francis yeah that one near oracle park in the last week there was one out by us in the East Bay like and the mountain lion hunting the what I do if I saw something like that right around the other way I'm scared to death the lines that you have a kid that a lie in always going around went out to the garage to get my biker baseball Glover son there's a line in the garage is staring me down I don't I don't have the you know the whole thing with the tiger king of the big cats I don't get it now there were people that were when they were looting they were breaking into zoos and releasing Tigers and lions and bears oh my hi I don't know if they did that how to get free in San Francisco we haven't all this mountain lion thing exactly you're not supposed to stare at him are you not supposed to get in the stare down with them no I'm not getting any response to like freeze or some like that I don't know if it was to run because I'm like oh okay one play or is that a fair man I don't know how to get the story several U. mai maiden venture yet several Christmases ago couple occasions got loaded this is I remember that and they started was it a tiger line or something hi not sure what it was but they they were not losing their lives they were **** around I don't know how they get in there but they were they were flying high if if it was Christmas day so whatever they wanted for Christmas they got and that was it to reach an laugh about is terrible story but yeah Saddam out lines get released for the roaming around the streets of San Francisco I can back it let's see team was highway mauled by tiger is that the one that's there what it was Christmas and Christmas day while years ago isn't always open is open to anything would be a bomber each wow he's got a hard knocks the judge we'd rams and Chargers although the on hard knocks so hit callin Capper next lease sites implement that part of the you want to get you dreaded things get big numbers charges like Colin Kaepernick who modestly holiday even allow hard knocks in this year it's great so many cheer one tier two tier three I mean they're not allow hard knocks in how they learn to do that ask your question to be interior next year that's not gonna happen I was able to wait one year on the raiders just going to Vegas winning cool scene the whole transition I mean LA fine but we're going to Vegas in the players like buying a new house is in Vegas and you know it they're not exactly two years because you're not gonna be able to do that this year yeah I mean did the rain we got ladder I have yeah the raiders got drafted it didn't happen raiders got the Pro Bowl we'll see if that games played and now we'll see what happens with our next we heard rumors about you know doing it in LA because you got two teams and moved into the brand new stadium but the NFL is going full bore and they're not they're not canceling anything they want you know one of them the draft anyway it's been a pretty much at this point a regular off season so we'll see what all happens but for now they have announced that the rams and Chargers they've never done that before right two teams on hard knocks I don't think so so is that hard knocks this is Maria yeah yeah I don't know what the password yet I'm sure they'll be a lot of reference to Chuck naps the former head coach of the Los Angeles rain no question no ground shock three things can happen when you throw a football and two of them are bad yeah that was a deal right yeah I don't have the same feeling the original cursing like a buffalo yeah hello ground Chuck the Joe Cribbs but he was admitted you have there credits related was a forty niner that's running in a lot of pro set back fields with Roger Craig yeah we've been watching a lot of eighties and that's all yeah by the way great throwback day today tomorrow again you know today is a nineteen eighty five nineteen eighty five nineteen eighty five eighteen K. the season's over all right is this is the NBA yet MBA think of a guy that well I don't know I'm gonna give this away really easy somebody passed away no Jeez how can I do this juncture because oil is just a away hold I'm not gonna go I don't like the the the fifteen years ago it everywhere you watch that was a little over small round not only use the baseball season is out after all you know what they're freaking out I wasn't going to put that ahead of the breaking news which is out of which turned out to be not celebrate maybe that I've learned in reality we asked this question a week ago does Tony Clark of the authority to make a deal the answer is no because of the people he's got to go back and get that they rank and file voted to just a player reps voted how many how many days does And we stopped as a treat at a now defunct building called the Sheffield History of popular music and I was just listening to it was forums. It was not great but I was listening to like a weird. There's like a listening post and you could just listen to some albums that they deemed classic albums and actually I my cousins were big Jimi Hendrix fans and so I started listening to Electric Lady Land and I remember listening to the first three songs and I just wrote the going. Great Well Mine Tie. World was just changed on so I ball. Electorally land go really into Hendricks and then viral electric lady land. Obviously through all along the watchtower read the liner notes. In its Britain by Dylan and niece of I guess if you're I'm thirty four and when we were school used to sing blowing it was a him so I guess there's just a moment of either has a sort of David. Your mind of who Bob Dylan is roughly and I. I was a into the Beatles at the time. So I sort of knew roughly a would big dylan fans and you know blowing the wind and he sort of saying you have some vague idea and then so my friend. Andy gave me the nineteen sixty seven greatest hits the he had which is his dad had which is just a best of everything op too blonde on. Blunt. I say it doesn't include anything for the debut album but it's just a great hits a of the of the pre John Wesley Harding nineteen sixties out on. Its I mean. That's a pretty place to star. Need because you sort of realized that this is by the time that period ends. He's probably about twenty five. I think. Yeah he yeah. He's about twenty five twenty six when the motorcycle accident happens. And so that's the if you think about the style changes the happen just did not show period of time. It's a pretty exciting thing to get like a quick precede history of and so from then on I was just you know I was just I was I was getting everything and I do think there is something really interesting. Did you go see blinded by the light? I know you on the show. There's a really amazing pit in that movie. Which is a beautiful film about. Safra's monsters obsession with Bruce springsteen this amazing bitten where it's kind of in the eighties and him and his friend who both of british-asian ethnic heritage and one of them is trying to get Bruce springsteen to be played on the School Radio Tannoy system and the guy says Bruce Springsteen isn't he got going on dodger into And the two Asian kids look at me. Go No ought not only definitely think. That's a work because when I was a kid my friends he's like. Oh that's the music DODD LISTENS TO A. My parents liked the bills in the light of the music. That was big when they moved to Britain like things like yellow and stuff but they they had no specific relationship with Dylan so I didn't have association with that. It was like a dragon something that your parents enforced you to endear. When you were growing up so to me I just couldn't. I just couldn't believe it. It just absolutely blew my mind. I had no full context for it and so I just bought as much as I can possibly buy that. There's a period where pretty much all I spend my birthday money. Christmas money on was Bob Dylan CDs and also quite good period to get into Bob Dylan because it was before they released the audio remastered CDs. So they were just so. I just I got. I bought time out of mind for one pound CD copy of time out of mind for a quid. From W H Smith's in Croydon and so it was really easy and cheap for me just to buy almost

What Are the Goals of Extinction Rebellions

"Extinction billion has a remarkable organized structure but it is basically a massive lines of affinity groups with and demands and the universal commitment to nonviolence one group had the idea to delay a commuter train accounting town in East London violence flat on a protest was dragged off the roof of the train and settled on commuters the BBC was criticized for integrating commuters interviewing police but not talking to testers this action led to much soul searching in extinction rebellion in criticism of the action why block public transport went public transport is a green alternative why block commutes an area of London where people may be online ages zero hours contracts and a likely to lose disproportionately forbade late for work the counting town incident was one the few the goat full media coverage Nora Cox traveled from your to be part of the London rebellion she told me why Laura welcome and thanks for talking to these sustainable futures report so I believe you're a journalist and you decided that your place was at the rebellion in London at the beginning of October did you for the whole week two weeks I was any night that I stopped of the at the International Rene decidedly due to relief reasons by too much time today right and how'd you been on any sort of protest light not before it done small actions in York in the past but they were by no means as Intense Exchange in London it was this the same theme extinction rebellion in different course same I've been involved for about six months now the school strikes and things like that yes yes won't quite big so you decided to go to London what did you expect the process to achieve I expected the protests to achieve publicity ultimately that is the number one aim right now because in order to take action into have recognition and at the moment none of us in exon including myself we see as a problem recognition and paying instead of actually entitled rising Helga things all so did you think that it would build on the reaction Easter I hoped it would hayward how will you actually done that full life on Sunday night And I was that Monday Monday's Dan my rusty often in that arrest arrested on Monday Monday on the first day at three and fourteen because I was there around abolished uh-huh yeah I believe we met actually briefly taught us how this happened when I met you yes he was sitting in the middle of millbank and of people and everything was was very sort of relaxed there weren't that many police around old out later on in the afternoon the numbers did increase a lot so how did it affect you when she saw from the morning it was quite a quiet and there was no great antagonising going on but the problem was the people divers in the road with excluding a handful of others want as we head spiky anything turnabout in despite yet you on the mold waiting Yanti agitate basically and that was that was not the same level of spiking as across that said we would come 'cause we get through the right bulk of wouldn't say for example ambulance during which we all agreed to do next let the ambulance through for all these reasons but then we wouldn't ask him police call street because they had blue emergency lights on which anybody's cocker put the Blue Emergency Light Song Yang to question whether or not that's genuine a few of us were getting quite no no annoy that just wasn't occasion of tactics that roadblock and all day we did manage to hold the road for what it was quite frustrating because wasn't really functioning that well so not as far as that would have been in arrestable situation had everybody banded together and bidden same level of quite quite spiking for few hours eventually police attitude as she say code lasts no more more more more more and they were actually pushing a star either side kind of cooling in on male by tents inventories take down and then we told told back we realize some time now we can put it back again and while other groups and other sites distracting the police that was odd jobs do put up some infrastructure but of course we couldn't get any infrastructure up because things have already being compensated taking away and already lots of police people there so you yeah it was quite difficult situation couldn't foods a food Tent or kitchen or welcome tent to we just had the actual tencent sleeping and I was actually arrested later on the afternoon by not moving from attacked he didn't move I wasn't at hand I didn't move right because earlier on my soul the police talking to people and saying to them you know a few go away will leave you alone but if you don't move gone to arrest you so will you given the opportunity to come out of the tension walk away or multiple times giving up until you were postage I was I was trying to event and I was taken to Croydon Custody Santa where I spent e the evening gene and the morning Tonto they release you nearly free at around eleven. Am they're about seven and the previous evening and have you been charged I have been released under instigation so I haven't been charged but there is every likelihood that I will be charged it just depends on how this guy is obviously not more arrested in time so they obviously let's move chance that we may not get charged but I feel like if you go to pick yourself arrestable position unique to accepted that that is the reality many it's probably happened did you expect that you would be arrested when you actually set off for London yes I'd had training I've taken uh-huh nonviolent direct action NBD trainings that I was prepared for that to happen I feel like at someone you identity dependence the D. B. S. check by needs keithly no-one relies on me I'm very independent I am sort of textbook arrestable as as far as people go Marshall Civility to put myself forward for that to be it needs to winning that happens oh you didn't so you are what do you think that this autumn rebellion has achieved I hate that it achieved more publicity and I would really have been why would I know that has led to is to started we'll conversations around this topic I can speak to people now they know succinct That's the whole point because as I said before you need to acknowledge before you can and it's the starting these conversations the most important thing and when you go out of people on the street outside Westminster that will not go away that's how you start the conversation as annoying it's difficult is that may be it's we have to start talking about the con- ignore anymore when extra me well we have a few shoots planned in Newark obviously nowhere near the scale of what went on in London obviously weighed indexing rebounding very casual that we don't we use the burn out because he puts so much energy you put yourself wholeheartedly into these things in it can be very taxing individuals we try to be very mind full of people's well-being net will help physical help so now we're having a bit of a breather that we're going to gather all shuttles height for comeback with something else I would like to see is more community engagement I think it's obviously you talked earlier about the canning town fiasco idea but he typically when you have affinity groups acting completely there are a coach and ten public opinion in the world action because reading we should be working together and not so we need to do in extinction rebounding is to build movement rather than constantly be pushing and pushing and pushing we need to be having conversations on one to one level with people which is what I'm an advocate for

"You've ever had. Oh and make sure your butters unsalted salted coffee is gross mix. It all in a blender for twenty to thirty seconds until it looks like a foam foamy lot day. I'm gonna stop for one second because Chris started this shit. I don't know like a week ago we can half ago. Right. So the kids had baseball on a Saturday. He started this like on a Friday or something. So last Saturday the kids had baseball, and we were rushing around to get him dressed and getting I think they had pictures as well. They had a lot going on that morning. So I had to get their hair done in so Croydon the last thing he was doing was making his bulletproof coffee, which is like a process, it's not just cream and. Sugar like mine. It's like you have to mix all this shit in there and joined the blender on. So what happened Croix? Well, so I I had this was like the third day. I had been doing it. So I the first day. I did it everything worked great. I don't use regular butter. I don't use dairy butter used to Cala butter. So that's the that's the right way to pronounce it. But it's the calendar. Yeah. So it's the remnants of the cocoa bean after they make cocoa the oils and stuff make this cacao butter. It's organic it's plant based it's not dairy, really good. And that's kind of chocolate flavor to the coffee. So I have never done the actual real butter just on the cacao butter. And then what you need is the MTC or MC MTC oil. So like coconut oil or this brain octane oil or some sort of organic oral that is going to give you the high fat, content and cholesterol that you that your body needs and your brain needs to function. So I used the MTC oil from the website, and then I use a cow butter. Or so Cobb letters kind of hard, and it comes in chunks..
