"Shepard. Blair is also dean emeritus of Duke's Universe, Duke University's few cross School of business and was the founding CEO and chairman of Duke Corporate education. And it was the principal force behind opening Duke's campus in China. Welcome, Blair. Let's get started. Many people buy be. I know it in here. So there's for our audience. Tell him about PricewaterhouseCoopers and what it does. So PricewaterhouseCoopers is one of the largest professional service firms in the world, actually, a network of Tom so it's It's more of a Federated structure. It's not from the U. S for me, okay? What do you think This is the United Nations? Really? Um we have the largest set of accountants in the world with the largest attacks practitioners in the world way and then we do almost every night. You would think about related to Consulting from strategy. Tio people in organization and we have 200 55 or so 1000 professionals around the world. And I know you're not there as an accountant. So what is your role there? So I'm the global leader strategy, which is an internal wall and leadership. So partners and I took the role is actually it's rare. You get those two things in the same job. The ability I think about Where is the place Go? And who has the capability get there at the same time? And so that opportunity I just couldn't turn down. A really interesting combination had a pretty interesting time in life. So think of it as I helped get the Leadership of the network to think about where they want to go in the future and ensure that they have people could get there. Well, that was quite a jump from Duke to Pricewaterhouse. What was the catalyst for that? Well, I work myself out of a job. So I had started founded the corporate education and loved it actually could have saved you the rest of my life. It was persuaded to become Dean and then in the process of that, um, got Duke to agree. Tio open campus in China. Can and therefore sort of step from CEO Dean Tio primary negotiator in relationship with the trying to campus and essentially gave up all the other role, so I would have just gone back to the faculty member. I wasn't really ready to do that. So I went on the market thought I'd do something like Dean or university president, but its offer came along and the former chairman, My previous boss was too persuasive, so I probably would have gone there. It's been a while since Mom. I wish I had discovered earlier in life. Doing something completely different would be this much fun. What do you think It's a big difference between that and the academy. Down. So so there are probably some partners. I like faculty, right? They the they really do on the business, and so they have a They have a lot of authority and a lot of Tommy. Andi. So you have to use the same kind of persuasion tactics. You have to get them on board and lead rather smashing away. But there are three big differences. Bunnies. They draw income at the end of the year. A lot of compensation is a result of my law firm does in any given year and so they're very they're very crash called the sensitive Knowing what's what's happening on the ground and somebody there for easier toe have a conversation with about the current realities address. The second is just the sheer scale. I mean, we're everywhere, 156 countries were involved in virtually every part of business and many, many parts of government in terms of Advising and supporting, and so in a way, I used to think that you can explain everything. Everything really does have an excellent virtually everything. And and then I think the authorities Here. It's built around integrity. I don't mean to say the university isn't but privacy starts there. And so the people are just really, really, really decent, remarkably chasing people. Well and you've had in your role and certainly at your role Duke and with what you did in China, you've got this broad view of what's going on in the world. And what we really want to talk about. Today is Some of the trends. I know you wrote a book, which we'll talk about just briefly Thursday. And But what are the trends that you're serious seeing and globally and then nationally? And what worries you? So we actually did. It actually did an interview for people in about 60 countries around the world from government to business, you know, taxi drivers and people in coffee shops. And what was striking is that they're all worried about the same thing. So I think I'm worried about what the world worried about. And we summarize that this word adapt, You know, acronym, adapt, and I'm really worried about it going hard. That sort of four things in that one of them is that the disparity between cities Between regions between states and provinces, in between countries and between individuals is growing too much, and I think you and I worried particular about generation just coming into your force. I also worry that the institutions that make the place work you think what institutions are like water to fish right in the police force, the legal system, the education system, the tax has come They're there because they're there. We can get on with life. Right? What's happening? You don't trust them as much as we used to, You know, in Lebanon in 96% of the citizen just don't trust institutions of government in love enough. And when that happens, the place just doesn't work. It's efficient. Have water that can't swim. You know, people have institutions. We can't work, right? We can't. We can't progress in life. I worry that we don't have a phone. Where the technology is. I'm getting ahead of us, and it's causing harms that we're having trouble catching up with. You think about carbon in the climate or think about, you know, social media and 16 year old male squid suicide. Or girl self harming and then find them or we don't have leaders actually take care of that. So so a lot of worries. Ah, I spend a lot of time worrying. I'm an optimist on time that I'm increasingly worried. Well, we're going to take a cut here for a break. We're going to be back in a few minutes.

Somewhere up there around the Dirk fish rally cross school, which would be great and probably starting the season again in Montreal during the winter because they've got a place in Troy there that is covered and they're going to bring in some ice and race rally cross in when it's freezing outside inside. It'll be a little bit warmer, but the relic rush guys may be racing on ice. And that's enough of reason for me to go to Canada in the middle of winter. If they do that that's going to be a great great way to kick off the season. Nice. Well, I, you know, rally crosses fun. I think with the the the waning audience of NASCAR and open wheel racing. Maybe, you know, the younger audience kind of leaning into this little more because they they can all see themselves possibly being a driver of that ilk. Someday in it's not as intense, and they're using the reason recognizable cars like the the the Subaru WRX like the focus, you know, cars that that people younger demographic can. Can recognize and actually buy and the last time we were circuit Americans. I got a ride with Travis Pastrana who was racing with Subaru. So let's a guy who you know. He's he's one of my absolute favorite people. He had just done that evil knievel jump show. And you know, he he's still just as as modest and humble and as much fun to be around it. He was when he was a kid. So I really I'm really hoping rela crisis gonna can make a comeback in US because it is a lot of fun to watch. And I agree with you on that. This question any news anything going on in the NASCAR? After France got that DUI is there any been any fallout from that. I just haven't talked to you about that. A while is a he pled not guilty. We haven't heard anything else from him. And they promoted a guy named Steve Phelps to where he's now president of NASCAR. Which probably helps us a good guy might have been much choice. But I think we've seen the last of Brian France, you know, he doesn't own any of NASCAR he really had been pretty hands. The last year or so I don't think he's gotta be hurting for money. So I don't think he's gonna make a comeback at the level. We've seen before it's a shame for NASCAR. Because.
