Parenting In A Pandemic
"Fellow parents in the community I am sure you feel me when I say this past couple of months have been rough. So today Dr Anne. Louise, Lockhart is back to chat about what it looks like two parent through a pandemic. Dr Lockhart is. Psychologist parent coach in the business owner of a new day, pediatric psychology in San Antonio Texas. Born and raised on the island of Saint Croix in the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. Doctor Lockhart has a doctorate in clinical psychology and is board certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. She's worked in both military and civilian. Setting Dr. Lockhart, and I chatted about the benefits of routine and structure right now. Managing Your own and your child's anxiety about cities reopening. What kinds of things we should be considering about school in the fall and how to have conversations with our kids and our schools about racism and racial trauma. If. You hear something while listening. They're resonates with you. Please be sure to share with us on social media using the Hashtag t BG in session. Here's our conversation. Thank you so much joining us against today Dr Luckily. For inviting me. Yes, always a pleasure to chat with you and I was like we gotta get her back. Because the last time you shared such great information about co-regulation right and that was before all of our lives turned upside down right. Exactly like I have been trying to listen to the episode on repeat like okay. How can I regulates today? Because, it feels like all that good stuff you shared. I'm really struggling to try to figure out. I would imagine that lots of other parents are too so I'm curious to hear how the DEMOC and everything that has been happening his really just kind of did everything we were doing. It's parenting Oh. Yeah, definitely I mean before all this happened. I mean as you know, and as some people know or may not know. Is that when you are needing to prepare for a life altering event many times we have some kind of preparation. Right or we know that it's coming or at least have an idea. Have some kind of file system has experienced something similar right, and then this pandemic hit and we're like wait. Wait, I don't have a file for pandemics. I don't know what to do when a global I mean. I've seen movies on it. But. I don't know what I'm supposed to do and so. I think what has caused some such an upheaval, because for many people like here in Texas we were literally on Spring, break and ending it when we heard the news, and then we told our kids. Hey, guys. Spring break is extended and gay. If extended some more Mike. Okay they're like so are. When are we going back probably in April? Okay, maybe okay, maybe August. Right and so I think that we we really didn't know how to prepare like. How do you prepare for being home twenty four seven with your spouse and your kids? Nonstop. And then maybe not be able to go to work or work differently. Teach your kids, I mean it was. It was a crazy adjustment it was. It was very difficult and I. think that's what makes it so much harder that we didn't have anything to relate it to. And no kind of system to compare it to Yeah, that's what I have found. I think just so overwhelming I said our last conversation talked about like how important it is to make sure that you're taking care of yourself so that you can then extend your kids. And in this situation we were all just thrown into working from home. And then you're trying to school from home and you can't even. Even like move about the world in the same ways that you were in, so it just felt like lots and lots of demands on your time in resources without very many ways of really kind of releasing it exactly and I think what was happening for a lot of people including myself is the things that we would normally do. We could not do anymore so like I love me some retail therapy. I couldn't go anywhere, nor did I want to. You know getting together with friends. Social distancing going to the movies can't do that. Go to the zoo. That's closed, I mean everything. Everything we do with our kids or for ourselves you literally could not do. And I think that's what so much harder is that Nicole? Regulation and be able to regulate and manage and balanced. Your time is all fighting good when you have the option, but when you literally have no options. You have to get very very creative with how you do that. so now it feels like some parts of the country are opening back up right like I. Know We'll here. In Georgia there are several things that have been open even for a couple of weeks ago. We are staying put, but things are opening up again now and so I'm wondering if you have ideas about how we might be able to do that with our families in a way, that feels they've. Yes, that's a great great question. Because now, a lot of places are opening up including San Antonio, but we as you said are put as well. I think that's where you have to really do your research and look to see what kind of measures are put in place, and then again talk to your family about how they feel how you can do that gradually and safely, and how you can start to get into the world in a way, that feels right for you so for example couple of weeks ago every three weeks now. My family and I decided to go find a lake to go to. So we can get outside and be in nature. They were all closed, so that made it a little bit difficult, but we were still able to go to a park and hang out together a getting takeout from a restaurant and having a picnic somewhere outside being able. Hang out together. Being able to hang out with family, we actually hung out with our inlaws twice because we know that they've been quarantined, isolated and social distance just like us, and a initially felt uncomfortable, and my son told me he felt uncomfortable and I acknowledged that I also felt that way as well too, and that it was okay to feel that way. Because! It had been three months since he thought Persson in person

A good new home
"Tara Gatewood in here with me on the program today out of Saint Paul Minnesota. Is Angela go theor the associate director of Minoshe key and a young and also here too with the with the group is executive director. deb Foster her and she is a Saint Croix Ojibway from Eagle Clan. My pleasure to have both of them here with US and Andromeda turn turn to you. You've done a lot of work. I'm looking at your bio and see That you have worked with the county in family services and just knowing along the repetition or how many times young people are entering into foster care and then they age out and then there's no place to turn talk to me about how being there air at this critical time and offering them a space to not only the rest of their head but also gained a job development skills as well as even just I have to be self sustaining talked me about this critical time period. In what some of the things that the center is working on I I always ask people to reflect on the young people that they have in their personal lives and the natural support systems. That are there error. And how many times when you're C Eighteen nineteen twenty one. Twenty two year olds in your personal life that When they have love family to fall back on at times when they're having a hard time or they've They need a place to stay. Or they've transitioned positioned in their jobs or they're you know. They're struggling in some way when they have a natural place to go back to a lot of the youth that we are working with because as they have spent such extended time in foster care that they've been moved around a lot through their youth. They don't have those places to land The one thing with young and his dad was saying having been Serving the community since nineteen eighty. Three is that it is become that place for a lot of youth and families that they know when they're having a hard time that this is kind of their soft place to land that there are people here that can help and and so this expands our ability to do that for this youth in this age group is that this is a critical time when you are learning learning to live independently when they're wanting to you know find employment and look for career pass and go back to college and when you don't have how those supports Built in because you've been in foster care because you've had time and placement or been homeless this gives you more of that time name and all of the services That you could need as a jumping off point are here for you and we're here to build those relationships and to help them take that next step I'm just excited that we have an opportunity now to work with these US more closely for a more extended period. Take time to help them. Get through this point of transition and so tell me a little bit more about how it works. How permanent is the housing and some some of the support services that are going on Angeles? START US off yeah so youth enter the program Between the ages of eighteen to twenty twenty four years old The youth that are coming in have different backgrounds of homelessness and Foster Care The nature permanent supportive housing is that they could live in this housing forever if they wanted. There isn't a timeframe I'm in which they would need to leave. They just need to enter between the ages of eighteen to twenty four and they have to continue to qualify for the subsidies that are or a helping to assist with their rent During the time that they are there the support services that we have we have to transition coaches that start working with the youth rate rate at the point of referral. And they're the ones who are working with you to collect their housing history. All their vital documents they information that they need in order to you. Qualify for the housing and those transition coaches continue to work with those youth to help them. That goal plans navigate resources and everything that they need on that and they're like housing goals we have a full time youth and family therapists. That is dedicated to the building and that therapists can do individual work Couples therapy family therapy is needed really to really meet. Whatever the needs are for that youth To help them be healthy in their community and their personal relationships. We also have a fulltime cultural specialist. Who is is trained in suicide prevention and post mention that is dedicated to the building? And he's there to help work with the youth To you meet their cultural needs and to help them. Connect back with their own communities as well We have the ability to have ceremonies. We have a cultural cultural activities center. We have medicine gardens and sweat lodge on site and so he's really the coordinator of that for all of the youth We are also adding a safe harbor case manager which is dedicated to working with you who are at risk of or have been involved in sexual exploitation and so the case management will be dedicated Just to that kind of aspect and helping them navigate gate through the resources and the sensitive nature of that and then there's property management that's onsite with our partners that help them with their lease and like the money portion portion of everything and then the We're also staff twenty four hours a day so there's always some support staff here for the residents when they need it into my turn to. Oh you balancing all of this because it sounds like a lot and it sounds like the things that often are left out of the equation win A lot of times we start trying trying to help our youth Trying to get them going faster. Start on life. How is all of this being balanced or is this part of the blueprint to make sure that all of these things were there Not only supplying a place to live. But supplying a place to thrive tell me more dip. Yes we In addition to what Angela has said we have the building was built around The the all of the needs of the young people. So for instance we have Circular gathering centers on each floor where Kids will be able to gather We have the purposely did efficiency apartments because we wanted at their full apartments full kitchen refrigerator. Everything bathroom beds living area but we wanted them to network with new folks And have an opportunity to establish new networks and We also have a workforce training center so A Complete Computer Center Training Center. Where kids can do everything? I'm from working on covering letters Building resumes doing job search learning technical skills And and types of activities. That are involved in building those opportunities for young people We also have a Fitness Center down in the lower level providing opportunities for young people to strengthen their health and and wellbeing physically physically and also the teaching kitchens that you mentioned on each floor to Help kids learn how to cook. And how to cook healthy We also have as mentioned a cultural activities center. So that is where all the kids can learn how to make their own regalia and do beadwork and make their own drums. But more importantly learned the history behind all of these things We have an entrepreneurship program that We have for young people that were putting together that will allow you to work onsite. We have a credit store which which I like to describe as kind of like a mini walgreens and so Use can earn vouchers that they can use in these stores and it has everything a walgreens would have but it also provides an opportunity for young people to work there and they can learn some Shaath work skills such as profit and loss and stocking talking and ordering cashiering things like that Also we have a food shelf and we also have a clothing store so these are all opportunities for young people to garner some software skills And we have numerous or as partners throughout our community. That are going to be working with us as well. And providing internships and workforce skills and Places where they can establish a ged or finish high school learn about post secondary education. If that's what they WANNA
Boeing swings to annual loss as 737 MAX costs near $19 billion
"For the first time and I believe it's two decades Boeing lost money yeah the last time they had an annual loss not a quarterly one but its annual one was nineteen ninety seven so it's it's been a little while and obviously this is all related to the seven thirty seven Max there there is no other reason why Boeing is losing money what they are estimating now is that the total costs related to this between money they have paid a victim's paid another operators money lost you know from not being able to actually sell these planes in the living room they're anticipating it's gonna be about eighteen point six billion dollars now which is pretty much double what they had earlier estimated even with that I think analysts were fearing that this you know could have been worse and so mowing stock is actually about two and a third percent today not even with the the loss that they reported part that's just because the stock has been so badly punished yeah over the last year in a year where the S. and P. five hundred you know rose thirty percent yes Boeing stock obviously did not it was down you know significantly over the course of the year ag I saw the new C. E. L. interview this morning on television though did you and I thought he did a great job because he's really lowered expectations you know he came out I think it was yesterday and said well you know we we were hoping we might be able to get this thing back in the air second half of twenty twenty and then the FAA corrected and said now we think we can actually get the swing approved in June which is a complete turnaround from his predecessor Mister Bolan Burke but the even there he he he's managing expectations and Bill Gates yes there are too young to remember but Bill Gates was the master at that eat when he was reporting earnings you'd say well you know it's you know we yeah we had a good quarter but the next court he would sandbag people Steve Jobs to eve jobs is great at it you know law yeah we had a good quarter but you never know so this new CEO is much more humble much less that he is not trying to intimidate the FAA he's completely given up control saying look this is in the hands of the engineers and the scientists and regulators yep and we'll put this plane back in the air and it will be in that this is where it was really a great statement it will be the safest plane in the air which is what I've maintained all along that when it does get approved I think you're going to I think everybody's going to want one first of all they're great plain a if you ever flown on a mac struck we'll know most people haven't I have flown before they took him now they they fire route Miami to Saint Croix and the the A. K. your ago they were in the air and so I've flown in on several occasions they're great plane you we the truck Zada will like this plane better than the Airbus three twenty year the old seven thirty sevens or re eek I think you're going to enjoy the plane and you're gonna go into that plane saying this thing must have an indoor just a tremendous amount of due diligence to get back in the air we'll see you are so skeptical I I am skeptical that companies are I'm I'm skeptical that this that the seven thirty seven Max brand is going to survive yeah I I just I okay if they have another incident you're absolutely right and a I don't know it because it isn't that kind of the tower to hero seven thirty seven Max B. yeah I I don't know a I'm looking forward to it being back in the air and you know I'm I figure start see the state the problem is the turnaround for bowling even if it gets approval let's say they're right they get approved in June yeah in terms of ramping up production and deliveries you're talking probably July of twenty twenty one before they're back to where they should have been a year and a half earlier yeah I mean they they have said they're going to start production before they get final approval so that will help a little bit on that side okay but it is going they have what like I think it's like five hundred planes that are sitting there that they really don't know what to do with right now because they're just sitting on the parking lots yeah you know when when you have five hundred planes is lying around your backyard you have problems and I say this as someone I I own Boeing stock I do believe there's an upside case here yeah but it's just the this seven thirty seven MAX thing like a it's it's reprehensible just how they got to this point night going you just left a bad taste in my mouth they go on YouTube and watch some of the interviews this morning that the CEO did and I think you'd be eat he turned me around I was pretty negative on it yeah and now I'm feeling I'm feeling better about it I just I'll I'll leave it at that and you know a act IV on unlike you truck I'll get on that plane even even if it's a little more expensive hello I'll get on it don't get me wrong like I'm not saying I will get on it I'm saying that I think they're going to have a wider problem with selling these things in the future we'll see time will
Disappearance of Jennifer Kesse
"Picking up where we left off captain we are discussing some of the possible suspects or at the very least people that we think should be looked at in this case we we now need to take an in depth. Look at two men whom Jen worked with many people believe that one of these men not both is likely responsible for Jen's ends abduction. There is a lot in this case that points to Jennifer being abducted by somebody who knew her knew where she lived her routines whom she might have have trusted and possibly let her guard down with. Perhaps this person confronted her over her recent trip with her boyfriend and an argument ensued. Dude the story about the two co workers at Jen's workplace makes them suspects in the eyes of many followers of this case. The Orlando Police Least Department did not prioritize Jen's workplace in their investigation. Probably because she never made it into work that day the crime happened elsewhere. Swear we said that in the week after Jen's disappearance the Orlando Police Department conducted interviews with some colleagues of Jennifer's and took her computer. But really that's about it. The building she worked in had over three thousand employees Orlando. PD did not speak with every every or actually very many of them at all and there are two in particular who are Internet favorites for being her abductor. These men and were not interviewed in-depth until three years after Jennifer vanished drew. CASSIE has long told a story that may have helped spark public interest in a Co.. Oh worker of Jennifer's as a possible person of interest. He enjoys maintain that a manager in JEN's office. We're going to call. Oh Him John. He was her peer not her superior but he was very interested in Jennifer and repeatedly pestered her about going out with him. Jennifer did not date colleagues and this manager was married. Drew enjoys suggested Jennifer that she handle it by having lunch with the manager in the building's cafeteria and letting him know firmly that she did not date in the workplace drew says that as far as he knows. Jennifer did do this then after her abduction at a public event the Kassy's conducted publicizing Jennifer's case. This manager approached the Kassy's en- gave them a secret Santa Ornament Jennifer cap on her desk. Now if that were all there is is to it. Then the manager would likely get a side I from the public but he might not be a person of interest but there is much much more to this story. Oy In two thousand ten. Another Co worker of Jennifer's who is known in online forums as the pseudonym Adam Frank although although that is not his real name filed a harassment suit at cf I west gate resorts against the manager. Who We said had a crush rush on Jan rain? The manager was Adams Superior at work this lawsuit alleged that the manager was known to have a relationship with Jennifer Kesse and to have made comments deemed threatening since Jennifer went missing these included comments. That Jennifer was likely eaten up by alligators by now which he said to more than one person. It also alleged that the manager was late for work on the morning of the twenty fourth of January. Two thousand six the day that Jennifer went missing according to this complaint. The manager made disparaging comments about about Jennifer's boyfriend and he was obsessed with her Adam. Frank claimed that the manager and Jennifer had a confrontation about her trip. With Ron Ron on that Monday morning after Jennifer got back from Saint Croix within days of Adam. Filing this Rasmus suit. He was fired from West Gate. Now it is is not known whether the manager was actually late for work that day as alleged by Adam managers were not required to keep time cards but in the wake of of Adam suit and dismissal from the company a source told on concluded that it was Adam not the manager who was obsessed with Jennifer. He had sent her an email telling her she looked nice and he was creepy Stalker Ish by these accounts. It seemed that this Adam Adam Frank Guy may very well have made up the whole thing about the manager to cast suspicion on this manager on John Rather than himself right. The upshot is and we don't know but a private investigator who worked for the Kassy's views this manager as the the prime suspect and says that he has not been cleared by Orlando PD. Which one the manager? John John this this manager John was the boss us of this other employees. Who later filed the complaint Adam? Yeah thank you it is. It is difficult to follow because you really have one man saying. Look look at the manager. He said some weird stuff he might be guilty of this one. He's also saying that he also came in late that day and we have no evidence of Jennifer talking bad about this Adam before she went missing but we have evidence of her talking to her parents about this John Character. That is correct. The weird thing though is we have other sources that say that it was Adam who was late for work on the twenty-fourth and not the manager The private investigator also states. That Adam Frank again. A fake name passed a polygraph and she was able to corroborate his statements. Somehow the manager knew about Adams complimentary email to Jennifer indicating that he was monitoring her emails emails again. Another thing we just do not have answers to but it looks interesting. And I'm going to point this out here captain i. I firmly believe in reviewing this case that the individual or individuals responsible for her disappearance. They had some knowledge judge so it whether it be extensive knowledge about Jennifer Cassie or even just some general vague knowledge but they had some knowledge about this young young woman and her activities. One man that we have not yet addressed and now many feel could possibly be linked to what happened happen to Jennifer because of similarities between Jennifer's disappearance and one that he is believed to be responsible for this is two two thousand and nine a young woman named Tracy. A Cossio left a lar- in Metro. West neighborhood of Orlando with a man named James Hat. Away away the bar was called the taproom and Jennifer Cassie and her friends had been to this bar at least on one occasion which was in Jen's old neighborhood. Tracy Cossio was never seen again after this at that bar at the taproom with this man and her case is is still unsolved her. Chevy Cobalt Tracy's car was found in Cohee just blocks away from the home of the man. She left the bar with James Hat away away. Jennifer Kesse worked in Cohee hat away is now serving life in state prison in Florida convicted of an attack on another young woman. Rachel Rachel Clark whom he tried to strangle to death in her car after she gave him a ride. He was known to Brag about how he liked to strangle his victims and break their necks. Had Always ex-girlfriends told detectives. He had a morbid obsession and vampires cannibalism encierro murders. The Orlando Police Department has looked at James Halloway and Jennifer Kesse case but the fact it is there just is no real evidence to make a connection for one thing. Both Rachel and Tracy were voluntarily in hathaway's presence whereas it is very unlikely that this would ever have been the case Jennifer Cassie. It is theoretically possible that had away saw all Jennifer cassie somewhere and decided to attack her. That is possible but again it doesn't seem to be that there's any anything of evidentiary value to connect him to her missing persons case. Yeah doesn't seem like there's much of a link at all. I mean definitely similar cases but no link yet and it's it's interesting that one of his possible victims. It sounds to me has never been found as well. I think that is. There are several problems with Jennifer Kesse case. And when I say problems I mean. They're they're mysteries. These little mysteries that are inside the big mystery and one of them is not only. When did this abduction take place? And where. But also why is she never been found Bryant. There was not that big of a window a to get rid of her or conceal her and we went through a lot of the searches that were conducted. They had some hits and some leads along the way but she's never been found and that's another thing that is cadaver dogs hit on her car. Rei either right. And that's the that's the other thing that is still so troubling and hurtful to her family to this day

"croix" Discussed on House of Kim with Kim Zolciak
"Golden nugget, you speaking of ice skating, you guys we're just going to give you some tips. If you're going to go ice skating. These are really cool tips that helped me and a lot of people were asking Croix in fact at the ice skating rink. How what he was saying to us basically because all of a sudden we look like a bunch of idiots out there. And then all of a sudden, we're like tootling along and they're like, hey, wait, what'd you say? So some tips for ice skating that Croix told me number one was to tighten your core, which is very huge. Because as soon as I will, I I let's go back to the skates. First. Let's start at the skates skirt. Let me go back to the vice skates number one rule, and I knew this prior to cry. I'm smart guys is that you need to tighten the laces titles. Like as tight as they can go Croix got blisters for making are so tight because he had to do all of us. But anyway, so make sure they're really tight number one number two. Tighten your court. What were you gonna say? Well, so number two is, but it's all kind of it all falls into this little category. Number two is is if you're not familiar with athletic position need to get yourself in athletic position, which is knees slightly bent chest over your toes, almost like you're gonna you're a quarter of the way squatting down to sit down on the potty. You know? So just a quarter of the way on your way to sit down to the potty is niece, slightly, bent shoulder width apart, but kind of out behind you and chest over toes that puts your body in. In a position to react to get its best balance to write change, whatever needs to change and by doing so you're activating your core. Your activating your legs activating, your gluts, and that's going to intern help you stay stable because ultimately the hardest thing to do when you're ice skating is to stay stable. People wanna stand up nice and straight and tall, which in which raises your center of gravity, right? From the ice. It makes way more difficult to stay stable. Your arms are everywhere. Your you know, your pelvis wants to go forward. Your feet wanna go out from underneath you, and it's hard to keep everything stable. So that's crucial is really big. And even when the kids I saw such a huge difference in them when they were tightening their core versus when they weren't. So that's number one, also Benji knees. A little K J was like trying to keep his knees. Perfectly straight. That was a huge thing. So Benji knees That's right in your. and your core athletic position knees. And just over feet will keep you from wanting to like that that old like slipped on the banana in the movies where your feet. And you land right on your butter myself. A couple times I didn't fall one time fell flat on her ass yesterday. Because there was like a big groove in the ice for whatever reason. And yeah, that was kind of is long as you keep your chest over your toes that will definitely prevent you from having that, you know, in right on your, but you can either sticking out your ass. So she will not ice skate. So it's been traumatizing her. You gotta be very careful. I think we're gonna we are kids should wear helmets. I saw a couple of kids yesterday. And I really don't think that's a bad idea to be honest, especially when there's these Douches buzzing around these like much older men yesterday, they had to be I don't know probably sixty five. I mean, I'm talking fastest. And here we are just trying to learn and there's plenty of room. It's like, dude..
