There was activity Virginia toward Maryland on the inner loop, legion bridge, collars are described a broken down vehicle kind of crowding the left lane that at one point we'd heard this was possibly a crash. All right, let's start things off on the capitol bellway through Maryland and Virginia should find nothing huge along the way. There's one issue in prince George's county we were aware of a tractor trailer broken down. It was on the inner loop of the valley and prince George's county as you approach the exit ramp to go south on the bottom of Washington Parkway. That's where it's kind of crowding along the right side, so just be aware. Staying in Maryland, you're good at a Frederick running two 70 south, where quiet still between the bellway is 95 and the Baltimore Washington Parkway. Pretty quiet so far in Virginia running 66, headed eastbound, 95 north leaving Fredericksburg, no troubles yet on three 95, leaving the beltway coming out of Springfield north, headed toward the 14th. It's 9 ten. Our highly unusual economy continues with punishing inflation, but also plenty of jobs. Jane Oates is president of working nation, a nonprofit media organization that focuses on the nation's labor force and works to help you find the right position. Dimitri sodas asks her about the quiet quitting trend and whether there are ways to improve your experience at work before you finally decide to leave. I wouldn't take a leap from a job that I have if it's paying enough for me to live the life I want until I was really sure that I had to leave. So very specifically if you're manager isn't giving you access to the professional development or the opportunities that you really feel that you need to have or you'd like to have. I would go to HR and I would say I'm very happy here. I love this company or I love this agency if it's a federal job or a city job. But I'd really like to learn more and do more. What kinds of things can I do to improve my skills to increase my skills and if that HR person can't get you information, then you know it may be time to leave. And by the way, in saying HR, I know that some people work in companies that are smaller. So it may be talking to the people that work with you about what opportunities they've been given that you maybe haven't been offered. And then go back to your manager with a very specific assay. You know, I understand that bob has learned how to do some project management software and development. I really like an opportunity to learn that as well. What do you see by way of labor unions really becoming prominent again in our society? I saw one survey that says 70% of Americans support them again. That is quite a change from even a few years ago. I think people really learn during COVID that they wanted to have voice, that the workers over the past several decades, you know, in direct relationship to the demise of private sector unions have lost the ability to tell their employer what's important to them. Yes, it's always salary is always important. But flexibility is becoming more and more important. And I think labor management partnerships like organized labor can really help you feel like you have a say in what your present and what your future is with your current company. I am so encouraged when I see the young people becoming active in organizing. I think the American workforce remains the most vibrant, exciting workforce in the world. We take real dignity from our work and pride in what we do, whether it's white collar or blue collar or no collar. And when I see those young people pushing to organize, I just think it's another validation of the fact that we are an incredible workforce. Jane Oates is president of working nation, she says her organization's focus is now on urging companies to hire more people who don't have a two or four year college degree. Oats says in many cases, such applicants can do the work really well and are being stigmatized for a lack of formal education. On I 66 westbound traffic remains slow from centerville into manassas, but the soon to be express lanes are open, untold, for now, after some road work lasted a little longer than planned, westbound, you got more capacity. So delays will ease, but eastbound, it's the heavy rain. And so traffic will be pretty slow going in the road spray anywhere from the NASA points west. We had one spin out crash reported well west near Markham, but that's already on the shoulder. 95 and three 95, volume delays, but without any major incidents, longest delays in the beltway right now are going to be in prince George's county on the outer loop. "Crofton, 86 at long von Plaza, Lowe's in the 70s tonight. It's 8 41. China was upset this week after a visit by House speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, which China considers its territory. Now, it vows to stop cooperating with the U.S. in a number of areas. Mario mancuso, a global affairs expert and former Pentagon official, joined WTO's Bruce ale in earlier to unpack how this changes things in the U.S. China relationship. I think the U.S. China relationship is entered really, frankly, a dangerous new phase. I wouldn't point only to speaker Pelosi's visit. The Chinese have gotten not just more assertive, but more aggressive. They've gotten more aggressive, particularly in the past 5 years. And in fact, it was their actions that precipitated the visit by speaker Pelosi and other visits by U.S. and European officials sort of in recent months. So we're in a dangerous new phase and what China has done with these recent actions. And I think this is pretty important. It's not just telegraph their capability to invade. They have long violated the air defense identification zone of Taiwan. But what they've done in the last 72 96 hours is demonstrate that they could invade and demonstrate that they could certainly institute a blockade and in particular what I'm referring to are some of the things they've done on the southern side of Taiwan and the eastern side of Taiwan. So this is an escalation from China, not from the United States. Now, you can quibble about whether the trip should have happened now. I think that's a reasonable argument to have. But nevertheless, once it was clear the speaker was going, it was important for her to go. I commend her for going. But this is all in China's hands. This is a result of China's increasing aggression. Frankly, throughout the end of Pacific. That was former Pentagon official Mario mancuso, who joined our own Bruce Allen earlier. It's 8

An Expert's Guide To Curly Hair
"Welcome to. I'm sharon hunt and this week's look dropped by. Guest is the incredible ruby aka the guru of curly and afro hair. Ruby is originally from zimbabwe but nowadays. She calls australia home. The originally self-taught stylist fell into hairdressing by accident. After witnessing friends and families struggle to find someone that understood this strands so she wound up doing it herself in her lounge room eventually she took up an apprenticeship began stalling out of multiple salons before finally opening up her own place. Rooming co in two thousand four room. Be thanks for dropping by. Thanks so much for having me sharing now. When i was a kid i distinctly remember being told if you ate all your crusts. Yo hey would go curly and i really badly wanted. Kelly has a you better believe i was gobbling down the crofton. I of course realize it was an old wives tale. That parents just tell you to eight year food. But i have to say. It's not the only myth that i've come across when it comes to curly hair. So why do you think there are. So many misconceptions about kohl's. I think something is misunderstood. There's a desire to want to make it a lot more palatable to each individual like answer for that very reason people come up with their own anecdotes around what this complex appendage actually is so people come up with so many things now yes i mean you told your cross for me. It was like eat your vegetables. And your hair is going to be straighter. You know what i mean like. Oh my gosh eating those so yeah. I think it's just because people really want to understand something that is complex and so yet this is where a lot of myths have come along and i hear them all the time. I've got lots of them to ask you about. Oh let's go. I guess to start with with. Kelly has to understand that. There's not just one type of co run us through just as an overview the different types of kohl's because you can tell by looking at someone calls not the same to the next. So why should you treat them the same one colleague on one hundred percent. So there's three curl types wavy curly in africa's how we sort of break down but then when you're looking at the typing system you've got type two which is wavy and that's lusa curls and there's three subcategories of that you've got to a to b to c and two c would be the tightest within that range and then you've got type three which is curly and within that again. Abc and c. And seeping tighter and then same thing for africa harrah's well after or coyly hair. Because i guess everyone who has coyly hair has an effort background. He is another curly myth. I've come across curly hair. Shampoos a marketing hype and normal shampoos worked. Fine let's start right there fact or fiction fact. They all marketing hive. Well okay no no no let me put it this way curly hair. People shouldn't shampoo their hair. That's a myth. Okay great stafa. Let's start there because that's actually. What's more commonly said trump who your hair. I've heard condition as well really. Yeah stop it. Maybe straight hair. How should you be carrying the curly hair. When it comes to washing its really simple. One of the things that i say to my clients often is you have to get rid of straight hair tendencies right. And how do you do that. It's just simplifying it. And which is part of what we do. We try and simplify everything for our clients. Because if you don't do that it's as though you're eating soup of the fork and that's gonna be very frustrating. And so how do you shampoo we take people through this whole process and it's like pretty much. Get the right shampoo first of all what you need to have the right product. Because not all sham periods would then be the same. Most shampoos actually stripped your hair. Which is why in some way. Yes don't shampoo your hair. I get with people. Come with that myth because it doesn't leave your hair as hydrated but then when you've got shampoo that is specifically designed for curly hair. It's supposed to cleanse but also hydrate to leave your hair feeling very moisturised. Soft supple and clean as well without streaky. Feel that you get when you get a deep cleansing shampoo

Washington, DC - Maryland family’s quarantine garden is thriving, so they’re giving away free produce
"At home during the pandemic, decided to plant a backyard garden. Things and it grew so much a lot of produce on their hands, and they're giving it away for free and trying to raise money for charity to Andrew Camilla and his 11 year old daughter. Kaylin originally planned a small garden, but they won't up with lots of plants searching raspberries, too. Butternut squash or strawberries. That's just some of it. As we kind of got a little carried away with ourselves. We realized that we were gonna have enough. Produce toe, you know, feed a small army, so they set up a farm stand in their front yard in Crofton to give away the produce and ask people if they're willing and able to donate to Alex's lemonade stand, Kalen says. I sit out there with the big chair. And we have a little fruit baskets with the vegetables and produce that we have ran out earlier this week, but we'll have more when ripe and ready. Read Maura w t

Terrible, Thanks For Asking
Untying Knots
"I'm nor mcnerney, and this is terrible. Thanks for asking. We have a lot of mugs in her house where a mug heavy household I gotta say, and in the full collection which we put in cabinets was saying that ever inputs their mugs and cabinets, but I guess I'm just trying to brag. We have cabinet full of mugs. We have more than one. That says Number One dad. They were gifts obviously from from the children to their dad. Their home made. They're the kind of thing you make in daycare or you making grade school unit the. They're the kind of thing where you just say look, we know fatherhood is a contest and. And there's only one way to make it fair, and that's that everybody wins obviously not a fan of those mugs, and it has nothing to do with the fact that I was only ever given one Mug one homemade commemorative mug that said number one mom and I'm not gonNA name names because the kid who made it knows that they have asked it. Okay, it's like. It's really. A teacher made me this mug. In this teacher knew me she saw me squealing into the parking lot at like six PM, when daycare closed at six, but according to my car clock. It's at five fifty eight I was not late. AM pretty sure. She wanted to write like number four hundred and eighty, seven, thousand, three, hundred sixty eight mom, but she didn't. She wrote number one, but I could tell her heart wasn't in it. The point is. That is parents I. Don't know I, mean you. You're pretty aware that you're not the best, but it's it's I. Mean Yeah, no apparent is pretty sure they are. They're not the best but kids. They don't really seem to know. They! Don't really you know I don't know but to kids. Do Kids really have a realistic idea of like weather? Not their parents are really like doing a good job. I don't know. But our guest today is Brit and growing up Brit was pretty sure she had the number, one dad, or at least a top ten dad. His name was Crofton, but she didn't call him Crofton. I called him data and I remember him just treating me like a princess. Just knowing like this is definitely my dad, you know. He picks me up like when he comes home from work like he picks me up. He throws me in the air. He gives me kisses on my cheek. He took me into bed. Crofton was a successful guy. He was in real estate. He owned some buildings. Doubt was Brit security and she was his princess. She was his doll baby. Now as a kid, you really don't know much about your parents as people if you asked my kids. What is your mom do? They'd be yell at us and that's true, and also it doesn't pay the bills so I also make a podcast. Thanks children. I knew that he was a real estate agent. I knew that the the home that we lived in was his his home on a one of his properties I'll say I knew that he he was pretty well often in wealthy. I knew that he made my mom laugh allots He to me was. Even though he wasn't, it's interesting because he wasn't around and I knew that you know he didn't. Always. You know sleep at at our home. But there was something about him. That was security to me and I think it had a lot to do with the fact that he made me feel included in. He made me feel like I belong to him. That's what good dads do good. Mom's to good parents. Good grownups. They make a kid feel like they belong like they have a place in that world in that place is right here. That's Crofton did even though he wasn't always right there. I thought that you know maybe like. He was like on business trips, but he wasn't. You know here in the House with us, so there was a lot of piecing together that I did so I remember going to a grocery store with my mom and my mom's saying like Oh like this is data son, and so I I remember thinking to myself like I didn't know he had other kids like I thought that I. was you know? His. Kid I thought that you know I was the only one that was around. I didn't know he had children. So that's confusing, but you only now what you know. So data wasn't always around, but then he kind of stopped coming around at all.

Flood watch canceled for DC area as rain continues
"Traffic I never order in our storm team four forty four cast including some severe weather this morning man of the theme is but wait there's more it was the warning is now for our southern Maryland listeners most of St Mary's county and the southern half of Calvert county you will have the latest severe thunderstorm warning in effect until nine fifteen in particular near Avenue and letter town and they can next bill towards St letter to towards the Bayshore all the way down to about Lexington park and just to the north of Saint Mary's city if you're within that area you have this a new severe thunderstorm warning until nine fifteen a very heavy rainfall maybe some small hail but the most important the damaging wind gusts of a good sixty miles per hour and of course this line has been marching across listening area has a lot of history of with the wind damage a today otherwise the morning that was in effect for prince George's county has now been dropped just a few minutes early if it's now moved out of prince George's county no warning get for in a rental county but none the less on fifty three oh one some very heavy rain gear Crofton and also in your bill we just to the north were bearing down on Davidsonville rather and its racing towards the bay bridge should be reaching the bay bridge itself by about nine ten about nine fifteen this morning this line goes all the way up over Baltimore and of course down towards the nice bridge again if you were a long and west of I ninety five including the capital beltway now you were clear of the severe weather threat you're just getting some lingering rain showers and the falling temperatures is a pretty strong cold front other got rid of the dense fog this morning but it's also caused the severe weather temperatures if you're still in the fifties right now don't get used to them as they say temperatures will be falling to the forties the rest of the day many of us already have done that for the rest of the day watch for those falling temperatures overnight tonight partly cloudy skies low to mid thirties for lows a blustery night tonight especially by comparison and then for tomorrow over the weekend Saturday looks like highs in the low to mid forties same numbers for Sunday and then Monday the next round of rain will be arriving highs then will be in the low to mid fifties down way down to forty six in Haymarket still sixteen Crofton temporarily and it's down to fifty four at Washington Reagan national map the storms were moving through so quickly yes they have and and and that's one reason why we're getting severe weather because the winds aloft along this front the temperature contrast around along this front because of the very strong winds also helping to move this line very quickly from west the east the only positive thing I could think about that is that's helping to mitigate the flood threat at this thing was moving up very very slowly we be having some flash flooding right now publicly in pretty quickly from west to east looking forward to having it added here Matt thank you
