The Launch Of The Jamal Journal IN Philadelphia
"Knew. Newspaper has hit the streets in philadelphia dedicated to the liberation of the nation's best known political prisoner. Mia abu jamal pam. Africa is coordinator of international concern. Family and friends of mumia abu-jamal. She wants folks to sign a petition in the newspaper. Demanding that philadelphia district attorney stop standing in the way of abu jamal's freedom. We do have the first edition of jamal journal in the nineties. Me and mia did. His newspaper to jamal. Journal was four of information is very first newspaper. That we're putting out is geared to what is happening to me. Now all the evidence and i just got a call from romania and his wife one thing will be a does do. He never complains about his sickness. Always usually find that out for someone else but he called me to let me know that. He believes that he had cold and he had went to the doctors up there and they were telling him no he. Don't they know he said his breed is bad and he said it feels like elephant is something sitting on his lungs. So you know. I'm asking people really to step up the work. Mia the district attorney here in philadelphia. They deblum is guilty. There's absolutely no evidence to show any judicial or prosecutorial misconduct case which is a blatant lie. Attorney in philadelphia. Mike record has went on record and stated very clearly that you know in his investigations moon is not only innocent. He's factually innocent. But what we have to use a conspiracy to commit cold blooded premeditated murder and they want us to sit down. Shut up and act like these fax is in hatton so he ate cranston who said there is no evidence of movie not having a fair trial in our journal. You see that. The key witness mr shelbert and who was a cab driver who said that he was missing. He what happened he said did move me. Shocked peace officer faulkner. He said several times in he kept missing missing. Shoot me at first but photographer by the name of polar cough was orange seen that night before. A lot of the peace officers got there and he took pictures men washington and another journalist. Linda got the picture some cough and the picture show clear was not in the ground at all showing the lie that the da is repeated. Today it's nothing but a lot the. Da have evidence that they beat lumia in our lady who was looking out her window. She says she saw when he ran his head into a poll. Busting it wide open. He was don't he was kicked with those steel toed routes kicked on his side and he was also shot so when they brought him into the hospital of course he couldn't stand up and he couldn't walk and they didn't just layton on the emergency room floor. They dropped him down on the floor where people come. In on those treads and to dr. See the moon. You could not speak above a whisper. He had to get right down to them to hear what it was he was saying. The police say their move was shouting and screaming. Yes i shot the mother. And i hope he does the best one. They claim that they have all the evidence be turned in some evidence a couple of years ago. They found six boxes. There had evidence that hasn't been seen so now near saying they have all the evidence. But i remembered on the night of december ninth which was in the winter moon into his wife. Had these one piece no sense. And that's what he was wearing that night so they say their balloon was shot at faulkner several times before the fatal blow and then they say that they forgot to take the tests showing that he had actually shot a gun. But when you shoot a gun is not only on your hands. But it's on your cloudy mummies clothing has disappeared. Some talk about you. Guess you prosecutorial and police misconduct. I'm talking about police. Abuse of a witness of person that they had knocked up right now moving and needs our help to rise up and jamal journal is online brek agenda. Look at that. Ford's New Rocket League Sponsorship is Perfect
"Besides the racing games which are a natural fit for car brands. There's one sport that made such a natural Fit For A brand sponsorship. I can't believe it took so long. It took it League yesterday Ford announced they're putting the Ford F-150 into the game. It's the first time a consumer-facing vehicle has been added to the game. So consumer-facing a key part of that. What does that mean rocket league has brought in a ton of different cars from media Universe has many of which are tied to actual Brands. You know, the Batmobile doesn't have a brand behind in the Dodge Charger is in game. So is Nissan's are thirty-four and so it's a Jeep, but the first two of those cars were tied to Fast and Furious DLC pack and they're based on old school cars for the charger it wage. 1968 and 1970 and the Nissan was based on the car from 1999 used by Brian O'Connor. The jeep was from Jurassic Park. So it's not like you can just buy these cars at a lot down. There was one other car that wasn't tied to a media franchise in rocket League's history. And that car is the McLaren starting at two hundred grand though. The McLaren is not a consumer car because it's a Subaru targeted at high-end customers. I'd wager to say maybe five people who play rocket League can afford a McLaren. Maybe that's generous Ford's F-150 is clearly different. The Ford F-series is the best selling Truck Series in North America nearly a million truck sold in 2019 when it comes to marketing you Market a Ford F series truck a lot differently than a new market a McLaren which is why it's fair to say. This is the first consumer-facing car that's existed in rocket League. What I think is really cool about the sponsorship. It says made up of a bunch of different parts first off the car inches the game great start it'll be available for purchase from February 22nd to the 28th. Then forward will also be a sponge for the upcoming rlcs winter major at the end of February that we taking over the in-game Billboards, which I still believe are a massive white space for sponsors Ford is also releasing a new ad around this partnership with the coolest part of that ad is that will be voiced by Bryan Cranston, you know the star of Breaking Bad also the dad from Malcolm in the Middle. Shout out to help crested also did for Superbowl at this year just to give you an idea about how much Ford is investing in the sponsorship and there's a final piece of a too which is also really cool Ford is hosting a freestyle competition people unfamiliar with rocket League freestyling is when you send your car turning like crazy to overcomplicate a goal in search of a sick clip, it's really popular on YouTube. It's doing tricks like flip resets double Taps Turtles and any other way to make a gold look really cool for it'll be inviting 8 freestyle rap. Our competition and the winner will receive an actual Ford F-150. Those are the kinds of small details that really make a brand sponsorship in Esports stand out to me. It shows an underscore the audience and the content that works with this audience as well. I really think this is the car sponsorship the rocket league has been raped for four years with the increased Esports investment from Brands like Toyota Honda BMW Mercedes and plenty more. I really can't believe it took this long, but good on Ford for finally making it

"That you clearly after breaking bad said i just spent years telling a story that took place in an arid desert. I wanna be a new orleans. Put me in humidity during soco. That's what it was. I think you're overestimating your fans. I think because you're sensitive that just want to shit okay. That idea seems to bring you delight sonal. You seem to be chuckling away. At the idea of me getting my feelings hurt bring it on. I can handle okay. Let's take a listen phil. I'm just listening to the ninety nine way to work. And you guys mentioned coming sending out there by some media which maybe think One what is the weirdest thing. That hasn't senator by but also feeling the person having a personal assistant when you're famous is that they can go do shit like that freedom and not draw attention to yourself and your business but is famous now and i wonder that actually hampers her ability to be an assistant Do you guys hear me up to the hospital. Tv going by all my weight is she. Does she work at the hospital. It was anything more than that. And let me set this up. The episode. she's talking about was sonal buying something for conan but conan. You joked you sent her out for 'em stuff at her to ask this question about whether sony can do that right. So let's let's clear up a few things first of all. I hope that person's headed to the hospital in a work capacity. But if they're going for some procedure. I hope that that went well so we wish we wish you. Well i also love. I listened to episode ninety nine. We have no. Oh good old ninety nine. That was a corker episode. You know what. I loved like episode forty eight. That was me at my best. And then yeah and also i'd like to clear up it. Yes i was joking. When i said that i sent sony out to buy bondage masochistic stuff come on me because as we all know that shit myself homemade and stuff. Yeah i like to make. And i make my own chains i i have. I have a latex press in the basement. And look i believe it sort of i sell some of it on oetzi and people love it. So look for my home made bondage stuff name of your oetzi shop. I as bad improv. But fuck you. I don't know what my gosh. What's the name of that an improv shop. I don't know not only. Do i not know but i'm going to slam you go early. Do you get angry at us. And now you do this. That's that's the kind of improv. I like to do is get up on stage. And if someone i walk out on stage and my partner in the scene says i love your candy shop. What kinda candy do you have. And i don't know fuck it and then just walk off and then the curtain comes down by the way episode. Ninety nine with sam richardson. Oh great wonderful. I love san richardson. Okay now we answered the question. Is everything you asked me to do. When i remember to do it. Yeah i mean. I do i i i. It's very sweet. She thinks i'm famous. But i'm absolutely not no but i heard you on the phone. If you are on the phone taking care of something for a i've heard you say yes. Yes this is sonar. Yes that sona yes. Yes about assistant. Yeah but plugs bits can you once again. I don't need but plugs from anyone. I'm manufacturing my own. They're made out of endangered ivory tower really enraged people. Yes ivory from around the world. it's illegal and endangered i. I have animals. Slaughtered for my homemade. But plucks so i can sell them at my bondage store on oetzi that's called fuck you gore lead. Yeah i like to make things myself. I'm very handy when it comes to the central arts making crashes seasonal but plugs. You've already yes you know how i know. You're not good at like building a lot of things. Because you build that sop with camel and you wouldn't stop talking about it for like four months. Finish that i did finish it very very good looking. It's sitting on my desk right now. in fact i'm looking at it and it's gorgeous. I put a lot of time into it. It is a one thousand nine hundred seventeen. Sony you've seen it. It's awesome and kudos to usa for remembering the name. That's pretty know why he said it so many times like if someone builds things all the time they don't talk about it constantly okay so this is a true story. I years and years and years ago. got this small house in connecticut. That was like the first thing i ever bought. And i would go up there on number. Forget there was this handyman around and he said. Do you need anything i said yes i need a workbench and the guy said okay. I'll get you. I'll i'll find you a work bench. And i said yes anita vice to hold onto things while i'm fixing them and he went right. I'll i'll put a by vice. Put it in the you work. Shed attached to the workbench. And i went good good and i'll need a hammer. And a saw. And he went great and whatever flash forward he gets all that stuff. And i look at it and remember the day. It's the vice. Is this metal vice in. It's sort of a bright industrial blue. And you turn the crank and it goes out and then it goes in again you know and you're like yes. I've got my vice. I'm ready for my work. Flash forward fifteen years and my son who at the time is like ten says. Hey what's the deal with this bench and this vice and i went. I need that from my. When i do my work around the house when i do my repairs and i fix things. And he said this and he pointed to. It has never been used. He peeled off some plastic. It was on the handle that you would feel if you even once turned the handle. Which i never did this. I mean you could eat sushi off this thing and there wouldn't be one microbe on it was to this day the most pristine. You can't find a vice in a hardware store. That's.

"Did you really please tell me you did do a stand up at a funeral. Please tell me now. Well i did one of the bigger challenges. I've had in my life as i did. As a very good event it was in town hall in new york city and it was a very very good worthy event but the people just the way it timed out it was to raise money an excellent cause for people that had been really grievously injured in the war and so that there was a long film up top about the injuries. Then they had people come out and play. Taps played taps and after they finish playing taps. A voice of god just said conan o'brien. I walked out to taps asks was my and look. I'm not listen. It's about the cause. And it's all of that. But actually i had to talk about. Do you understand the situation. I'm in right now. And that ended up being the thing that i think helps us turn it around and obviously my my struggles in that moment paled in comparison to the sacrifice that all these people had made but i was just thinking. It's that was. That's a moment where i talk about moments where you remember. Remember being backstage and they start to play taps and then hearing my voice and almost wanting to be. I'm thinking i'm sure glad i'm not that fucking guy and realizing i'm that fucking guy you know but i've been watching as i said i've been watching your honor and this character playing michael seattle and again You're you've chosen this role. That i think speaks to a lot of the work that you've already done And you're so you're well prepared for this. But it's something where i understand everybody's motivation. I and i'm wary of giving away too much about the show but as a dad is someone who's got a teenage son and daughter. Your son does something and your character. A judge is trying to save your son. But you're you're doing all these things that are compare completely anathema to who you are as a judge but i understand every single thing. You're doing i understand why you're doing it by its its. That's i think what really makes the show. So riveting is that. Yeah it's it's it's. It's a tough of the premise. Got me and i would present that to your listeners. To ask all seven of them if you were told there's an eighth okay. We're told there's an age we don't have proof but we're told this if you were presented with the the real belief that your son or daughter was being threatened with their life. Would you become criminal to save their life. And i haven't talked to anybody who said no. Yes right they would becoming. I would do that. And so i sit in this premise. My character is a is a superior court judge and he tries to convince his son. Who was i talked about the premise. The premise is that my son is involved in a hit and run accident. He panics and leaves the scene of the accident and the boy he hit on a motorcycle dies. And he's distraught with that. Of course he realizes. He made a huge mistake when he confesses bid to me convince him to do the right thing. We're going to the police station. We're gonna turn you in and we're going to be responsible and accountable for our actions. However at the police station. I discover the parents of the dead boy is a mob boss deadly dangerous mob boss and i know with every ounce of my being that that guy is going to kill my son no matter what. And that's the thing that turns it around and my character than t. uses all of his law background as a lawyer and as a judge to be able to say. Okay how do i reverse engineer. What actually happened and create an alibi destroy evidence manipulated jury and to to get this into the so that my son stays alive and of course whenever you try to become someone you're not it's a slippery slope to destruction and that's what happens it's It's quite good. The actor who plays your son is amazing undoing. Just when you're describing it if you don't like the sun or sympathize because when you lay the story.

"I had the pleasure a little. Bit of getting to know vince. Gill again i got. I've had gone to have a meal with him a time or two and he recently My wife and i went to the theater and he was sitting right in front of us being a real. Dick cackling the play. When was this. When did you go to play. I went to place. Pre covid. Obviously just pre cocoa yeah. The play was called. Ironically the play can never come here and starring humphrey bogart. No such a lovely guy. And i'm thinking it's so funny because you you met vince gilligan. In this period of your life were you doing a wasn't an x. Files that you were a Nineteen ninety eight. I was doing around a guest starring on anything that will have me and and there was a a role on the x files that he wrote. I didn't know who he was. But i got that role and it was a character. That was really kind of despicable and is antisemitic and he was bigoted on every level. And just an an ornery asshole. A guy and he needed it was an it was an invitation to to learn the the nuance and the brilliance of vince. Gilligan's rioting so the concept was that Moulder david coveney's character had to drive in a westerly direction at eighty miles an hour or my character. My head would explode. I'm in the backseat. It's messy so they're always rewriting the same old things the old eighty miles west. My attleboro up that will make it. Eighty miles east. Got where he's driving. He's driving in the car and he's got gotta keep it up or my headaches or it's gonna explode now. Most writers would have written my character to be sympathetic to be nice to be a good guy and so that the hero the star of your show. Yeah david save that guy. He's a nice guy but you're not invested in that that's an obvious. So what gilligan did was make my character awful despicable human being which puts the moral dilemma in the center of your lead character. Is this man worth saving simply. Because he's a human being what he would love to do is just pull over and watch me explode. But he can't do it that's the brilliance of it so as he starts developing that i go away for seven years. I do malcolm in the middle i. I didn't didn't really become a friend. I didn't know him. And then after malcolm finishes i get this call. That vince gilligan wants to see me do you remember him. He remembers you. And i said i don't know who that is he's a. He was a writer on x. Files and he's doing a show called breaking bad i go. What does that mean he goes. Well nobody really knows but do you wanna meet him and i said yeah. He remembers me. Okay and so far. You're coming off as really curious and surly in this story was. I don't know what does that mean shenanigans. It's never getting better than malcolm in the middle. Fuck car so i go to talk to him and i but i read his script and it's just the best one hour script i have ever read. It just kept me going. I was so sympathetic toward this character. And that was his genius that he he told me in the meeting that he wants to change he he wants to bring about change of the lead character. He wants to take him from a good guy to a bad guy and i said i don't think that's ever been done before because the look of the characters. Tony soprano was always tony. Soprano vic mackey was him. Every character is the same. They adjust a slightly to impetus that comes into their lives but by large the same character..

"A police explorer in high school and i was pretty good at it and so that seems like a pragmatic thing to do. So i'll i'll do that and then in college. I took an elective course in acting i got to kiss this really pretty girl in a scene in the first day in class and i thought oh my god this is the greatest thing in the world and then i thought i thought this this girl also really likes me so this is the easiest date i'm ever going to have and so i asked her out and she said no. I have a boyfriend. And then i realized oh she was just acting i swear to you. I thought she really liked me. My head is exploding now. And so at the end of two years it was either. I'm transferring to a university to continue police science courses or i run away and i ran away. Basically hopping on a motorcycle and leaving. The state for two years was running away. And in retrospect. I find that i needed to go get lost so that some day i could be found instead of locking myself into a position where i was. Just gonna take the easy road and follow suit of what i was training for and realized i wasn't going to make the best policemen that i could have and it really opened my eyes so it was it was to grow up. It was too mature and find some adventure and figure out what i really wanted to do. There's no way probably. I can't prove this but i don't think you could be possibly doing the kind of work at the level that you're doing it if you hadn't thrown yourself out there for a while that's for sure. I always tell my daughter to that whenever something bad happens it's going to make a great story if everything in your life Was terrific and beautiful and no hurdles to leap over and no stumbling and where where are the lessons. You're going to get from that. And by the way we're the stories every single story worth it worth. Its merit comes from a place of failure somewhere along the line. The hero stumbles and fails and has to get back up and achieve or overcome a fear or an inadequacy or something. That's those are the best stories we wanna watch. And if you have a collection of those in your real life you're actually lucky for. Remember that that line in a billy joel song. You have no scars in your face. You cannot handle pressure right know. It's like you need some some life some lines on your face. Some scars to to know how to behave. And how lucky you are right now is a famous story about humphrey bogart. Who later in his career. You know around the time of citizen kane. He would tell the makeup people. Don't make me look too good. Let people see what. I really look like because i've earned that face and that's the face of an actor who's been places and done things. That's i've got news for you though he wasn't in citizen kane. I'm sorry did. I say there's not sorry caine mutiny. Cain well level hold on you know what i find is best rather than admit i made a mistake. I'm gonna cover it by saying late in life. Humphrey bogart was diluted. He went through. He went through a period delusion where he thought that he was orson welles and was in citizen kane. Well thanks for catching that. I meant kane mutiny. I didn't want you get all those emails dummy all urine. It'd be matic. That'd be matt youtube for not correcting me. A can't believe chris in catching walter white would have caught that when you were driving around motorcycle..

Of course. I'm such a breaking bad fan. Such a fan of yours that i proceed to wear that tie clip around. Now you'd think being in this business. And i said oh bryan cranston. And in that moment like an old cartoon. My head turned into a horse's ass. Do things like that. But i was so giddy such dick in that moment. And i think i've done that many times and sometimes to the same person and over again night my tie pin. Yes i know yes yes bryan. Cranston gave me i. I'm glad to hear that and also the people who gave me that tie clip will be glad to hear that because it's actually a gps tracker and we've been marking exactly where you've been over the last couple of years. Yeah they're not like jfk great. We got off track. The point i was trying to make is that. I've always believed that. I would be a different person if like a young superman if boston was sort of starting to about to blow up because it was gonna get hit by a meteorite and my parents quickly selected one child of six and it was me sorry brothers and sisters but they were like we can only save. It must be young conan cal. L joel yeah. Yeah and they put me in a little spaceship and shot me to los angeles. And i grew up in this incredible climate. I think it'd be a different person. "All right back to the show. I'm fascinated with what happens in a child's brain that makes certain kids turn on and become self aware and know to make those opposite decisions that were presented to them in a negative form. Why or why do some kids go left like jason instead of right or vice versa. Why is that yeah. It's because it. It also speaks to the nature versus nurture thing You know if if it is nature than i am pre wired to repeat some of the same challenges it my parents went through. And if it's nurture. I'm also perhaps predestined to go those directions because this is the kind of parenting That i'm getting now. Having said all that i had great moments of parenting from both of my parents but thankfully i had somewhat of a an ability to kind of cherry. Pick the best moments of their parenting and eliminate some of the things that they probably would admittedly do a little bit differently today for brian you were eleven did this is not the typical conversation on our show. "A bad would just by the way speaking of jail ticket. I love the bit. That you and aaron paul did on the with the the robots just going up to just going up two random people with the robots and like the had the tablet with your faces just telling people happy birthday. That was so that was for our our mess. Scowl does hombres and The delivery service drizzly. That's that we got together with and we were actually in our home so it very cova friendly at from our sampling. We were in our homes and we were operating the robots truly from our computers. The up the arrows. And we're like we could turn it one way or the other. We could raise the the thing to get taller or lower and we can go forward backwards. It was really is really a lotta fun. As like a video game that became a came to life and so I think we're going to do some more of those. But it was fun just to surprised people and give them a bottle of those numbers for their birthdays. And this has been a hell of a year It's been you know everybody's stressed out like you're talking about worried about the election and covert and it's been very dehumanizing to this this year in many many ways and uncivil and crude in unkind in so many other ways it's it feels like i can't wait for this to get over so that we can live well and i think you know just hearing all the things that you've done it's like well. What can you do you donate platelets because you wanna help people because you had covert you know like you. You're sending these robots out. You like try to cheer people up just to make him feel better. You know it's like the the those are the things and they'll and those are the kind of bryan cranston things that i would expect that you would do. Well we'll see if i can make. Because i remember when the the very first time on the podcast i'd really. I thought i had really hit a wellspring of of talking performers into hitting the like. You know let's talk about all your insecurity than let's really unearth and you go. You know i'm fine. You know like. I knew. I wanted to act i. There wasn't really a backup plan i would. I was happy. Just living apartment of being working like there wasn't any any of that underneath. And i'm like god dims. How do we bottle cranston like. How do we. How do we just like squeeze out some of his essence and absorb that level of comfort with like you know what the world can be a difficult place but you power through it and you do what you can for the people that you care about. Where where does that come.

"What what the podcast was back into those a like a radio show but for the internet and this is funny that we've come full circle of podcast where eleven years ago ten years ago. Almost eleven. when we started doing this we're still in the space for to explain. What a podcast. This and now every now feel like all those people we would've explained job to podcast podcast now. So listen we're on the right track. It worked and so he's been on several times throughout the years. And i got to do the talking bad after show for breaking bad but i just adore him. He's just so sweet so funny Just a really smart guy and also really comfortable in his own skin which is something that he's talked about on the podcast for years and something i really admire. He just doesn't really get too worked up about any unnecessary things and And is very focused on what he wants to do and just does things that he enjoys and his family. So i love you bryan cranston and he has a new show which is called your honor which is on showtime and looks amazing. When you see the premise for it he explains the podcast. But if you watch the trailer ford it's like oh this is going to be one of those ones where you're just on the edge of your seat the whole time It looks really really really fantastic. So thank you to bryan cranston for coming back on and continuing to be a a wonderful human being and friend here. Oh and by the way recorded this about six weeks ago. "Welcome to the podcast number. Eleven o four. I apologize there was a little bit of like a two week. Almost a two week gap in between the last episode in this one. That's going up because we shot the next season of the wall about that time and shoot him in about a week and a half or so. The walls premiering january fourth so you are fourth season. It was really fun But our days were really long twelve thirteen hours long and you know also longer because we were taking extra steps to be extra safe very strict protocols in place as as they should be and just make sure it was safe to shoot but it was really fun to be back on set and working and giving away money to nice people and as you probably hear my voice is shot. Because i've literally been shouting for like we can have on the wall. No go with the million no there. Oh no i'll turn red so and it was just like a couple of talking dead. A handful of talking heads over the summer ever literally not done. I haven't worn. I have a blister some feet from wearing a shoes with the suits. Because i haven't worn suits and so long not complaining at all not complaining. Very thankful unfortunate to have been able to to do this but it just it was like a whole other gear to get back into super super fun though again january fourth. Those are those are going to start premiering. The wall on nbc. But i'd love to for the cork board today. The community quote board. Idt dot com of an old friend of mine berry and his friend. Jason have a company called barry and jason games and they've made some really fun games and they kick started and officially licensed anchorman game. So he writes. It's really funny. Game based on the moment in the movie where. Run burgundy's teleprompters sabotaged. And he reads whatever's in front of him. So now it is your turn to sabotage teleprompter with ridiculous magnetic words as your friends. Try to read through the news without laughing. So i highly recommend anchorman. The game from my friends And jason. they sent me one leading. I have not had a chance to play. Because i'd been working but But we certainly will and a fun fun. Christmas present anchorman the game. So you can just google anchorman. The game or going amazon. It's on amazon. You can get it there as well so there. It is congratulations to bury jason for making making a fun game to help distract people all right so this episode is bryan cranston whom i looked up because i remember the first i knew he was on the podcast early early early on and i'm looking at upright now. First appearance on the podcast august. Twenty fifth two thousand eleven. We had met. I don't know like a month or two before that we both had done. The conan o'brien show and and i was like. Hey man i'm doing this thing and we. We had a ton of fun on the show and brian. So funny and ricky. And he's he's really amazing comedy guy. I mean you know. Sometimes people have to be reminded before breaking bad. He was malcolm in the middle. And he done sitcoms for years. But he's just a great actor top to bottom overall but also really funny and an improv and so we had a really great time. And i think i remember the times.

Bryan Cranston on new TV drama "Your Honor"
"Bryan cranston. The star of amc's breaking bad returns to series television for the first time since that show left. The air in a new showtime miniseries called your honor which begins on sunday. Cranston plays a new orleans. Judge whose life is torn apart after his teenage son gets into some sudden and very serious trouble are tv critic. David be cooley. Has this review bryan. Cranston had played the goofy dad on the fox sitcom malcolm in the middle then. Redefined himself brilliantly as walter white. The meek high school chemistry teacher in breaking bad. What made walter break. Bad was the sudden news that he had contracted terminal cancer leading to a series of increasingly momentous decisions. In the new showtime miniseries. Your honor cranston returns to series tv playing another character who gets some sudden life changing news. This time he plays. Michael desio a compassionate judge in new orleans and a single parent raising his teenage son after the death of his wife a year ago in an unexpected tragedy. On the day of that saturday anniversary the sun adam played by hunter. Doohan experiences an unexpected tragedy of his own after leaving flowers at the convenience store where his mother was an innocent bystander. Shot by robbers has an asthma attack while driving away he searches for his inhaler on the passenger seat and as he takes his eyes off the road he slams into a motorcycle driven by another teenager. Adam after returning home tells his father what happened next. Where did this happen. Okay okay so would be the new hospital. Then the emeralds. Taken to what in new orleans and i don't know well the police must have sex. Overweight drove away before the tried to can give you called nine hundred time to try to at least yes or no please. I could breathe okay. I got you guys. This ten part series begins like the. Hbo mini series the night of following a young man. He descends deeper and deeper into a horrifying spiral of accidents and consequences that engrossing 2016 mini series was created by peter moffett who adapted it from his own british series. Moffitt is the adapter of your honor as well but this time he's not working from his own story showtimes. Your honor is his new version of a twenty seventeen. Israeli drama called ca- votto which has the same basic plot and is available of sample on youtube but for this adaptation for the united states. The location is changed in new orleans and other elements are given an american spin from police brutality. To local criminal activity one thing stays the same though. And it's thing that makes your honor so gripping from the start the father doing the right thing as both a judge and a citizen escorts his son to the police station to turn them in with an explanation but when he gets there he sees the father of the victim and recognizes him as a powerful local mob boss. All of a sudden the judge realizes that to turn his son in would be to signed his death warrant so from that point on. What is the right thing to do. And how many people does he have to enlist or deceive to do it. There's a certain flavor of breaking bad this because we're essentially put in the position of sympathizing with and rooting for a person who's breaking and avoiding the law but that's not a complaint because breaking bad may be the best tv drama series ever made and bryan cranston once again crafts a marvelously nuanced and empathic performance. And in your honor. He's not alone. The executive producers in addition to moffitt in cranston include robert and michelle king the talented creators of the good wife. So both the characters and the legal twists are fully drawn hundred. Doohan as the judge's son has the same relatable acting skills cranston and needs to since he carries most of the show's opening our and other riveting characters and actors abound michael stool barred from. Tv's fargo plays. The mob boss and hope davis plays his wife as very fierce and involved sort of carmela soprano to his tony and while margo martindale from justified in. The americans doesn't show up as the judges mother-in-law until episode four. Wow is she worth the wait. The writers on your honor include moffitt himself and the directors include clark johnson. An actor and director way back on homicide life on the street and edward. Berger who did a marvelous job directing another showtime miniseries patrick metros showtime provided only four of the ten episodes of your honoring advance. Each one. both impressed and surprised me and made me hungry to see the next cranston's michael ziada is smart enough to think on his feet and almost every scene requires him to do just that to avoid exposure endanger and to protect his only son whatever the repercussions to others the series title. Your honor isn't just the judge's work title. it's also at the center of the show. When it comes to your family would you do to save them. And what effect will that have upon your moral code your relationships with others and your honor

Animal Crossing Sales and the Best Paper Mario Game
"Low and welcome to Nintendo voice chat. Jen's Nintendo podcast. I'm your host Casey defreitas's in this week, we will be talking about how animal crossing New Horizons is. Now the switches second best selling game will be talking a ton about paper Mario because it is the Japanese release anniversary of the original paper Mario, tennis sixty four, and of course, a whole lot. This week I'm joined by pair Snyder. Brennan Graber Low and for the first time Terry Shorts Hello Terry, you actually dude one of the paper Mario's for us I did I demanded it. No I asked very nicely and they were like, no in volunteers to review paper. Mario colors flashy sure Ken Yeah I guess it was funny because I didn't love it but I liked it more than sticker star but we had given sticker star a higher score in. So I got to my one review experience was the the fun joys of navigating like. How do I explain that? I like this more than the previous game but also explain why my score is lower than the previous reviews for I'm only a couple of hours into the new one though and I'm really enjoying it. Isn't that a pain though I'm sure everyone everyone deal with that before it's like. Well, I like it more than the swine they gave that one a really high score. So what do we do and then you know People figure it out like we all do. I don't know how you're asking. Hey, there are more than one person looks at Jin they had different opinions. Everyone knows it's not true. Pointed it out in the comments. Back back when we were running channels, we tried to make things match up and like even even when you have a small team of people reviewing all the sixty four games, you suddenly run into issues the moment like a playstation games ported and you're like, they gave obt and nine that's like a six for us, and so the moment like it just like trying to make things matchup between people broke down after less than a year. Funny? Teams I like first of all I'm so Casey. Thank you so much for having me on this episode because I love paper I, love the franchise and the First Paper Mario Game. We'll talk about it later but it's like tied for when my favorite games ever but it is funny because I realized recently came out when I was twelve open I totally. Have nostalgia for like it being perfection because my twelve year old Brian was like this is a perfect game and now I'm like an adult and consuming this in a different way. So probably who knows how if this was the first game that I played how I'd feel about it but it's such a special franchise and I'm glad we get to celebrate it. And I'm so glad to have you on this week not only to talk about paper Mario. But also I know you're a big Fan of animal crossing as well and I think it's pretty big news. The animal crossing your horizons is now the second best selling switch game. So nintendo released some financial data recently and we got a lot of INFO basically Emma crosses new highs sales have reached twenty, two million, which is crazy. It's insane right and can anyone guess what is beating it out for being the best selling? which game I'm sure every their Gal Mario Arts eight deluxe only other one. It's better that it's outsold smash and Zelda and Mario, Odyssey, which is insane yet Mario. Odyssey isn't even in the top five bestselling switch games anymore, which is also crazy. Yeah. I know people people always consider Games Lynn, ZELDA TO BE SYSTEM SELLERS Super Mario in the end. It is about booking on smash brothers animal crossing Mario, Kart those I usually at the top of every generation unless you have like a we sports or some odd ball game thrown into the middle bed like what's even more notable as you know, animal crossing is not a complete reinvention of animal crossing. So it's a little bit like an animal crossing deluxe, right? Like it's the best of all. The Games just like Mario Kart is not a new game. It's actually a re release of the last one. It'd be nice to see what what happens when they make a really new Mario Kart or a completely new game like that I? Think of all the the years to have to coast down the the fall lineup of not a whole lot. They're having animal crossing this year really helped kind of like ride that coaster of like what we we have a lot of profits this year. So maybe we'll have a giant released settle planned for this year that we know of. Looking, good for them. It's so lucky that came out when it did in in a really dark way because I think in a normal year, would we have seen animal crossing have this kind of response where I think which the stat fifty percent of all new consoles were playing animal crossing that during its release but it's at a time when it's coming out where people need to fill their time with something new and exciting and such an accessible game and everyone was playing it and celebrities were playing it, and so it's like during the pandemic when you're you're trying to fill all that time, it makes a lot of sense why this specifically. Blew up in such a big way especially more than all the previous installment. Did it really did get the corona bump but if you look at any sort of trend data available out there, if you look at twitter released a report on what people searched the most for or you know what topics were trending, the most like animal crossing on all these lists at this chart shows Google search interest in the biggest games in all of the Games on the list multiplayer games like call of duty war zone League of legends like any like any of the four, any of the big games and then animal crossing comes in goes. Like. CRANSTON. But it's not but it's not a competitive game where you're constantly, you know like you're measuring your rain or looking for versus yes you are very competitive with your island. No, it was just a right game at the right time we couldn't travel anywhere. So we wanted to show people

You got to be more measured and controlled, and he just doesn't seem like a dishwashing loader got helter skelter. That's how I. Yeah he was all helter skelter one last question before we go to the game although I think I could talk to you all day we heard that it is very popular. But in fact, we've asked you here to play a little game of our own that we're calling. Breaking good. As. We have mentioned a few times you start and breaking bad. So we wondered about breaking good that is safe driving. We're GONNA ask you three questions about driver's education get to write. You want our prize for one of our listeners who is Bryan Cranston playing for Alison Lee of San Francisco California. All right ready to do this. Yes. Here we go. Come on out. Here's the first question a sixty year old woman was doing quite well recently on her driving test in Brazil but she ended the day in jail why a because just as she was finishing, she swerved off the road to run over and Guti a Brazilian rodent. Be because after she dented the car trying to park it at the end of the tests she attempted to bribe the test taker with some pot brownies or see because she was actually her own son dressed up as his mother so he could take the test for her. Wow I I'm attracted to the last one see That sounds so dramatic. You're right. Very good instincts. That's in fact what happened would work to? He's a heck of a driver. All right. Next question drivers tests vary around the world in Finland. For example, it can take three years of study to get your license but in Egypt, it is much easier to get your driver's license in Egypt. All you have to do is a save room room while miming steering and shifting gears for one complete minute. Be, getting your car drive six meters forward than six meters in reverse or see cross your heart and swear to God, that you won't run over anyone. Well, that's just silly. Although I think it's going to be driving six meters forward six meters back to pass your driver's test in Egypt. That's in fact true. They got the right answer again. We'll say if you've ever been to Egypt been driven around, you would be forgiven for thinking any of those could have been true. All right. Last question you can be perfect here. Most people who got driver's Ed in American high schools were forced to watch horrible drivers ED films with bloody depictions of the consequences of unsafe driving, which of these was a real driver's ED movies shown American drivers classes a highways of agony be appointment with disaster or see red asphalt, one, two, three, four, and five. You know I can see them making red asphalt one, two, three and four but five realize what is there left to say then about the character I'm going to say be you're GONNA. Say Be appointment with disaster. You're right. That was a real movie I should say so were the other ones. They. Really liked to make these movies lurid. Bill, how Bryan Cranston doing our quiz. I am really impressed. So few guests get him. All right, but you have a perfect score, right? "Here is your first quote there has to be someone who the day after their picked is prepared to be president that was Joe Biden acknowledging that the big job requirement of what job is to take over his job. By President Vice President Course Joe Biden is. Simply, running mate, which is great because if he waits any longer we're going to find out in the voting booth. He's promised to pick a female vice presidential candidate that's very exciting. There are lots of really qualified candidates in the mix in the conversation, but you know the Democrats are just GonNa blow it and pick Tim Kaine again. When. He says, they need to be prepared to be president the day after their announces like he not feeling well well. I, feel like he knows I feel like he knows what we know and he just like this is y'all's next president once I got it sat out. This is who you get. We all know that if he's elected Joe Biden will be the oldest president ever to be inaugural and so everybody must know the weight in the vice president. In fact, we're told that the very first question they asked the potential candidates and their interviews was. So where do you see yourself in about a year? Okay. So a weird thing I've been doing his watching old presidential debates that like I can't remember or Just, weird you know that. Tracy. And that's what. Shows. I make bad decisions. I told you. What have you learned? Presidential debates I've learned that since Joe, Biden was in debates, he's not been able to remember people's names. Names so you don't think it's a decline that we're talking about with job and you think he's always been kind of this way. Hey, a do I guess I personally would like a president that remembers the names of states but that's Just me same as I share those same hopes I wanNA handsome president again, share the Joe Biden but I miss Joe Biden is a good looking fellow. Paid a lot of money for that hair and teeth, Tracy shor-short which I respect but ovulating I need like. All right. Your next quote was tweeted out Thursday by an anti gun group sending thoughts and prayers. Now, that was from March for our lives they were offering their support to an organization that was targeted. By prosecutors in New York and Washington this week who are we talking about? That would be the NRA exactly right. The NRA. The New York Attorney General. Suing to dissolve the National Rifle Association because it is violated dozens, dozens of rules about running a charity which we say wait the NRA is a charity. Well it is haven't you heard of one, eight, seven, seven guns for kids. Program for seniors guns on. That Kid. Right thing, the executives of the NRA have now been accused of stealing more than sixty million dollars from the members who thought they were donating to protect gun rights but ended up paying for Wayne. Lapierre is luxury lifestyle. Robbery yeah. Their motto is now they can have my gun when they pry it from my cold dead expensively manicured hands. Men are getting manicures now a little bit and looking for the silver lining. It's not his fault. You're named Wayne last year you've just kind of have to be evil either that of the world's fanciest Hillbilly Dad's closer to dining. Here's the thing about this whole scandal. So these guys are now being accused of misusing their funds instead of for what they're donated for, but we want people to be misusing their funds. You don't want them to use the funds for what they're donated for have another summer home, Wayne. All right. Warren here is your last quote. This is a real moment to address our comfort. It's time to free the leg. That was a man named Matt Nicholson speaking for millions when he told The Washington Post that he is done with what item of Clothing Ohio at the maybe at with this I don't know his pants. Yes. Specifically what kind of pants? I- JEANS DUNNo. Yes. Jeans. Exactly. Right. June two fallen off a cliff four brands have declared bankruptcy Levi's has lost more than half its revenue fashion industry analysts say this is because genes are terrible but if they're so uncomfortable, why did we all keep wearing them all the time because I'm butts look really good in them is that it? Yes. What size you are they're pretty comfortable. That's why I like Jag ings. GING's up on your body and you'll never go back to regular jeans again, say none of the restriction feels like you're wearing pyjamas do they have the little stirrups on them so that they don't crawl up your legs or is that oh? No, but I, love that you remember stirrups. That's a brilliant idea. You should take that to shark tank Tom. You. Didn't invent it I I see these women at the grocery store. It must be something that's just available in rural America perhaps yes. Gwyneth Paltrow shares 'back to basics' diet plan
"Gwyneth paltrow shared on her website, the back to basics diet that she's following while she's on lockdown. So what is when its definition of basic? We'll in her words. Do you guys think that this is practical? It's a lot of like wealthy people. They liked doing things that just have an effect on the body or an effect. That's just very basic, and then they go. How can I tie this into something spiritual? How can I tie this into something? That's got culture like. Medicine or Doshi Shia because in my life. Where's Canada's worst housing crisis?
"Wrote on P. is rental market not the type of thing You think about all that often Being out here in Toronto whether you're Vancouver Montreal but it's a It's a a pretty wild place I would say so. Tell me about even just one of the typical kind of stories. You hear from renters right so I've heard quite a bit from families out in Pi and they've been having a ton of trouble for years now. it's a really tight rental market not a lot of spaces particularly larger spaces. If you need three bedrooms. Let's say and they they really just can't find very much at all So UC on facebook all the time families pleading for any sort of tips on vacant units. They find themselves weeks away from Homelessness Day call apartment buildings month after month looking for something and invariably they hear that there's just nothing available. Can he give me some context Just in terms of how tough is it there. In terms of vacancy rate and and how difficult it is to get into these places to have numbers. Yeah absolutely so. If view all the way back to two thousand thirteen the apartment vacancy rate was about seven percent. That's pretty high. It's you know the type of rate where if you need you to place your there's GonNa be some options for you fast. Forward five years to two thousand eighteen zero point three percent so like nothing pretty much nothing yes and The there was literally nothing for three bedroom. Pi's at small enough place that you can count the vacant units quickly so circa twenty eighteen gene Given all the apartments that they have that means they're eighteen available apartments on the whole island so things improved a little bit in two thousand nineteen up to one point two percent vacancy but still the lowest on a provincial basis. It's still a really tight market. There's not a lot available. I mean the thing that really really grabbed me about this is that those are numbers worse than or even maybe now on par with you know the numbers we hear out of Toronto and Vancouver where these are the biggest biggest housing crisis in Canada. And how do people react. I mean you're based in Toronto when you put together a piece explained that no actually. The worst housing crisis in Canada is out east in Cranston Rhode Island. I think it's mostly surprise. You know when when you're based out in these cities you you tend to think you know this is where everyone wants to live in Candida. Therefore there's a ton of competition but in fact I mean there's there's a lot that's going on beneath the surface in. Pi Driving this when people hear about it from year here. We just think it's a place where you go on vacation or something but you know there's a lot of people living and working there and it's it's really tough and people they don't don't realize it mostly what are those underlying things that are driving The scarcity of rental units one big thing is population growth Pi. Okay I has grown a tremendous amount over the past say four or five years on top of that. There's just not been a lot of apartments built. I mean Pe- I compared with say here in Toronto where we're sitting Real estate market is You know prices are a little more modest. Let's say so you know years ago you'd have a lot of options for detached housing under one hundred and fifty thousand dollars Yes so you know developers is there there. They weren't really building apartment. Because you know someone with a middle class. Income Housing was pretty affordable for for ownership right. So that makes sense but then you get years. I'm not really building apartments. An influx of a ton of people and home prices have gone up quite a bit you know for a detached housing. Typical detached housing went up forty percent over over the past year. So now what used to be. Affordable isn't for a lot of people they need to rent and they haven't been building rentals so start with the first problem And I guess it's a really good problem for a place like P I have. Where did the growth in population come from right so The previous liberal government. They're made population growth with a key part of their economic plan. And really. That's that's a good thing right. You know when you're looking at any of the Atlantic provinces. They're really old. They need to get younger. They I need people. In a place like newfoundland their populations decreasing They desperately need people pe- I saw this and they said we got a ramp up these numbers so they started bringing in a lot of people that are entrepreneurship programs to bring in people from outside of Canada the trying to lure native islanders back to Pi. He is well so you know the numbers sound almost kind of funny over the past four years. Pi's population has increased by thirteen. Eighteen thousand. So that's just a fraction of what you would get in a given year and say the GTE shortly but thirteen thousand. That's nine percent increase over four years. That's nearly double the national rate of growth the highest growth of of any province over that spin so thirteen thousand is a big deal on an island of you know give or take a hundred and fifty thousand sure. That's a rough equivalent of that in Toronto would be what like three hundred three hundred fifty thousand people that span yet. Just you know if you were to blow it up Toronto wise I mean it would just be. We wouldn't know what to do with all those And what about the second challenge. I mean you mentioned that Now that houses are more more expensive some people are being forced to rent. Where's the new inventory coming from? Because again you think about how the bigger cities solve these problems like journal can throw up six new condo towers hours right. The developers are all over it. How does that work on an island with limited Limited resources but also just like space. Yeah there are definitely you know. The government airman has responded. There are more affordable units that are starting to come to market. They're throwing millions of dollars at this but A lot of what we're seeing. That's coming on and lot of develop developers are starting to reactor saying we need. There's a huge potential here for rentals. We need rentals but a lot of those are going to be at market rates right so P I like a lot out of a lot of provinces has rent control which for tenants is great. Because you know more or less that your rent increases year to year are going to be pretty limited. Let's I'd say around inflation two percents or so. But when a unit is vacated or a new unit comes onto the market the landlords can set it where they want right so the new listings. That are getting come. Available available in a lot is going to be a market rate. They're going to be a pretty high rate so the average rent in. Pi is somewhat modest. It's like you know nine hundred dollars that includes people who've been under rent control. It's they've rented an apartment for twenty years right on the island. But the new stuff you see you know fifteen seventeen eighteen hundred dollars for pretty modest accommodations so when you talk to people. They're either people who were trying to render. Just people who've lived there for quite some time. Where where are they feeling the squeeze and and what do they think the government should be doing one thing that you hear a lot from people? They're they're they're they're squeezes in a few different directions. One is that I'm just tons of families families that are unable to find the space so families of five. There are crowding into two bedrooms. As I mentioned earlier for three bedroom vacancies couple years ago there was literally nothing available so finding the space for families is has been a real challenge. Another one that I've heard about quite a bit is for students for Upi about about ninety percent of their housing is off campus. The only have a few hundred beds on campus. But what. I've been hearing from students that they're competing with the short term rental market a lot so sites it's like Airbnb. The touristy is still going in September when school starts so a lot of students are having to double up with other people who happen to have apartments wade out. The tourism season. Then get a rental for October. So there's quite a bit precariousness that you're seeing at the start of the school
