We're back to our interview with actors. Bryan cranston and robin dearden after having one child robin and brian faced a tough dilemma. He had hopes for more children. Robin was done early. So that was a big therapy thing for. While i'll bet i think i really would have resented having two kids when he would be gone like six months or go off into a movie or right and and how did you get through that well as a progressive enlightened male i said well i think it's fair that you should have two votes and i'll have one vote so because of the tautological tissue out for so i said i said well maybe when taylor is one years old i'll bring it up when she's two years old are bringing up and after that i won't bring it up but we know okay but we did go to therapy for that and i learned something really interesting about you at at that is i had yes. We're getting deep into him wanting more children. So much and me being fine with not the therapist as brian. Why do you think this is so important in you. Had this epiphany of 'cause. I only think of a family as my siblings because his parents were so fractured that us only having one was not a family. I really relied on my brother. Who's two years older than me. During the fracture of the family he was like it was running defense and blocking for me and figuring things out together and we're very very close for a long long time. I thought boy. I really needed my brother. Are little sister needed us to at times to take care of her to babysit when mom was drinking too much. Or whatever you know. So that's what i kept thinking. It's not for me. It's for taylor. I thought it's better for to simply. I don't disagree with you. I think that that's what do you think it's not too late. Baby sure big deal. That's that's amazing. Having a change your marriage a lot by having a baby by oh yeah well. Because i did have a one is forty because i did have major complications. It took me a year to even feel quasi-normal again just wrecked me. It just totally wrecked me. And that was part of a to i. Just don't wanna go through that again. It was just deprived. You of the joy of motherhood didn't for a while. I mean not from to nothing on from two years old on that first year it was really really hard was really hard but brian is home. Then he wasn't gonna wasn't going through. Oh yeah and it's like we'll just do this. We'll just get through this. That's who he is that in everything he's like that there was another point. His grandmother was in dementia in a home and she had to go to the bathroom and he said i'll help you. And she said owner and okay. She wasn't really sure who he was and she said. Oh no no. I'd be too 'cause oh grandma don't you know i'm a doctor. Now she went. Okay so good. And how was it about about robin. That made you think part of it was just the the the person that she is that she still has a joyous appreciation for simple things for just life a good positive outlook. She wasn't cynical or sarcastic yet. She was funny. She was beautiful. Still is and the character of a person is what you should hit your wagons to. What are the choices you make when times are tough. Is there an example. Well it's interesting because one of our first fights was when she had this boyfriend and we were now getting together and she hadn't officially told the boyfriend that didn't live in los angeles that this was not going to go any further. And i thought you know this. I'm sensing something sensing something here. I tell them. I lost my voice. I physically lost my voice. Tone is such a psychological while it was like i got laryngitis so to speak i guess so. Did you believe it well. I was having a difficult time and rightfully rightfully. So yes. thank you for. I was in the right on here completely but they were asking. What is it about me that you love so thanking big mistake. Just doing better. You're probably right. What would you pass on to a young couple. Who's about to be married that you've learned being able to laugh. It's really important to me. And then the other thing is just say. Sometimes i'm your best friend. I've got your back. Don't forget that And i think if you can both remember that what about you. Mr. you have to know that you fall in love before you attempt this now. it's sounds overly simplistic because well of course we'll but really being love and take the time to really desire that person to miss that person sometimes separation is not necessarily a bad thing and to find out how you truly feel at your core if.

"I know you've been asked about tonight. I could see potentially being annoying. But it's also. How do you not notice that here like walter white but obviously totally different characters but a guy who is also starts out as upright guy moral guy is faced with a dilemma and make some compromises which there's no turning back from. What are what are the most the biggest similarities and the biggest differences between these two characters. That brought you so much acclaim I thought about that a lot. Scott because i don't want to tread on on territory that i've already stomped on and i realized at my age i'm going to be a father or grandfather. I'm going if there's if there's a story about ethical dilemmas. Wow that's it. it's either bad to good good bad what you're thinking at a person making a choice that turns them into something or doing something that they would not normally do. So that's unavoidable. So i wanted to make sure that there was enough distinction between michael ziada and walter white that it wouldn't like oh he's doing the same thing and for me to so and the difference is quite clear. Is that walter. White is premeditated he had time to think about this and he thought he very carefully and precisely what he was going to do and how he was going to do it with michael deshea. No it's impulsive. It's you need to make this decision right now right here. And he didn't have the luxury of thinking through scenarios on. Well if i do this now what's going to happen in the ripple effect. No it's just make the move and hope for the best. And that's what that impulsivity was. What was exciting to me about it. The other thing is what makes it. The distinction between the characters is that michael deseado is constantly struggling to turn the tide and do the right thing at every given time. He wants to change and do the right thing. Now stop this madness and confess. He wants to bring people in. He wants to feel love and togetherness again and he's struggling mightily. Walter white is on a change a transition where he went from a point of powerlessness and and being intimidated by the world to being powerful and intimidating others and he was seduced into his own ego and and that sense of power and he liked it as we found out at the end of his journey. He's not apologizing. He did what he was good at it. And he felt strong and powerful and he was owning his own fr- own weaknesses and character flaws. Final final question is this. You have now start on the greatest tv series of all time in the opinion of a lot of people including myself. You have one award except the oscar. i think so. That's still to do. But a i have no doubt that will that will happen. You've made a nice living. What would young brian. Let's say pre motorcycle trip with your brother have said if you were able to have told him that this is where things we're gonna end up when he's sixty five and what keeps sixty five year old brian working at an age literally the age when quite a lot of people just say. I'm going to retire and play golfing. Relax.

"I guess the the fact that you had seen how acting could impact person if it didn't if the dreams don't pan out Did that deter you in any way. I guess i'd read that deter you in the sense of pursuing it yourself. I read some fun stuff that you were you know. I think he had directed you in something at one point before he he left in a and that you were separately i think in in some school productions including one that you have a funny story that the time machine but i guess i just wonder was it. Was it something where you're saying. I want to grow up and do what my parents do. Or you're just thinking in terms of other. Though you know is too young to be able to recognize that. I wanted to be a baseball player. And there's only one thing that held me back from being coming a professional baseball player nuts talent otherwise i'd have been great but it didn't. It didn't appear to me to be a pathway for me the time and and then you know the cautionary tale of my my parents woes in show business was probably in the back of my mind. I don't think it was a conscious level. And i just you know. Well i'm gonna do something else and back when i was a kid. There were career days and everybody would come into the school gym. It would be everybody representing the military representing the fire department. The police department gas company. It was basically around to high schools where kids were probably not going to go to college. And you know it's time to think about your future and for some reason. My brother gravitated to the police department and he joined a police explorer group which was sixteen year olds. We had to go to the lapd academy every saturday for eight eight weeks and you train kind of like a junior police program. I don't know exactly why he did that but he did. He's two years older than me. The first year that he was in the group went to hawaii. And i thought oh man. I'm a poor kid from the valley. We didn't have any money. My when my parents split up there was nothing we got kicked out of our our house. For closure i mean i my brother and i had to go live with our grandparents for a year. I mean it was. In retrospect it was more dire than i realized at the time so he was involved in this group and he found a community he found a group of young guys that he related to and i think also he gravitated to it again retrospectively because of the policemen being father figures in a masculine father figure since our father was not around i think he was maybe subliminally looking for that kind of influence and the second year he was in there. Now i'm fifteen..

The Launch Of The Jamal Journal IN Philadelphia
"Knew. Newspaper has hit the streets in philadelphia dedicated to the liberation of the nation's best known political prisoner. Mia abu jamal pam. Africa is coordinator of international concern. Family and friends of mumia abu-jamal. She wants folks to sign a petition in the newspaper. Demanding that philadelphia district attorney stop standing in the way of abu jamal's freedom. We do have the first edition of jamal journal in the nineties. Me and mia did. His newspaper to jamal. Journal was four of information is very first newspaper. That we're putting out is geared to what is happening to me. Now all the evidence and i just got a call from romania and his wife one thing will be a does do. He never complains about his sickness. Mia the district attorney here in philadelphia. They deblum is guilty. There's absolutely no evidence to show any judicial or prosecutorial misconduct case which is a blatant lie. Attorney in philadelphia. Mike record has went on record and stated very clearly that you know in his investigations moon is not only innocent. He's factually innocent. But what we have to use a conspiracy to commit cold blooded premeditated murder and they want us to sit down. Shut up and act like these fax is in hatton so he ate cranston who said there is no evidence of movie not having a fair trial in our journal. You see that. The key witness mr shelbert and who was a cab driver who said that he was missing. He what happened he said did move me. Shocked peace officer faulkner. He said several times in he kept missing missing. Shoot me at first but photographer by the name of polar cough was orange seen that night before. A lot of the peace officers got there and he took pictures men washington and another journalist. Linda got the picture some cough and the picture show clear was not in the ground at all showing the lie that the da is repeated. Today it's nothing but a lot the. Da have evidence that they beat lumia in our lady who was looking out her window. She says she saw when he ran his head into a poll. Busting it wide open. He was don't he was kicked with those steel toed routes kicked on his side and he was also shot so when they brought him into the hospital of course he couldn't stand up and he couldn't walk and they didn't just layton on the emergency room floor. They claim that they have all the evidence be turned in some evidence a couple of years ago. They found six boxes. There had evidence that hasn't been seen so now near saying they have all the evidence. But i remembered on the night of december ninth which was in the winter moon into his wife. And that's what he was wearing that night so they say their balloon was shot at faulkner several times before the fatal blow and then they say that they forgot to take the tests showing that he had actually shot a gun. But when you shoot a gun is not only on your hands. But it's on your cloudy mummies clothing has disappeared. Some talk about you. Guess you prosecutorial and police misconduct. Da crash now who lied and said there was no evidence
Ford's New Rocket League Sponsorship is Perfect
"Besides the racing games which are a natural fit for car brands. There's one sport that made such a natural Fit For A brand sponsorship. I can't believe it took so long. It took it League yesterday Ford announced they're putting the Ford F-150 into the game. It's the first time a consumer-facing vehicle has been added to the game. So consumer-facing a key part of that. What does that mean rocket league has brought in a ton of different cars from media Universe has many of which are tied to actual Brands. You know, the Batmobile doesn't have a brand behind in the Dodge Charger is in game. So is Nissan's are thirty-four and so it's a Jeep, but the first two of those cars were tied to Fast and Furious DLC pack and they're based on old school cars for the charger it wage. 1968 and 1970 and the Nissan was based on the car from 1999 used by Brian O'Connor. The jeep was from Jurassic Park. So it's not like you can just buy these cars at a lot down. There was one other car that wasn't tied to a media franchise in rocket League's history. And that car is the McLaren starting at two hundred grand though. The McLaren is not a consumer car because it's a Subaru targeted at high-end customers. I'd wager to say maybe five people who play rocket League can afford a McLaren. Maybe that's generous Ford's F-150 is clearly different. The Ford F-series is the best selling Truck Series in North America nearly a million truck sold in 2019 when it comes to marketing you Market a Ford F series truck a lot differently than a new market a McLaren which is why it's fair to say. This is the first consumer-facing car that's existed in rocket League. What I think is really cool about the sponsorship. It says made up of a bunch of different parts first off the car inches the game great start it'll be available for purchase from February 22nd to the 28th. Then forward will also be a sponge for the upcoming rlcs winter major at the end of February that we taking over the in-game Billboards, which I still believe are a massive white space for sponsors Ford is also releasing a new ad around this partnership with the coolest part of that ad is that will be voiced by Bryan Cranston, you know the star of Breaking Bad also the dad from Malcolm in the Middle. Shout out to help crested also did for Superbowl at this year just to give you an idea about how much Ford is investing in the sponsorship and there's a final piece of a too which is also really cool Ford is hosting a freestyle competition people unfamiliar with rocket League freestyling is when you send your car turning like crazy to overcomplicate a goal in search of a sick clip, it's really popular on YouTube. It's doing tricks like flip resets double Taps Turtles and any other way to make a gold look really cool for it'll be inviting 8 freestyle rap. Our competition and the winner will receive an actual Ford F-150. Those are the kinds of small details that really make a brand sponsorship in Esports stand out to me. It shows an underscore the audience and the content that works with this audience as well. I really think this is the car sponsorship the rocket league has been raped for four years with the increased Esports investment from Brands like Toyota Honda BMW Mercedes and plenty more. I really can't believe it took this long, but good on Ford for finally making it

Bryan Cranston on new TV drama "Your Honor"
"Bryan cranston. The star of amc's breaking bad returns to series television for the first time since that show left. The air in a new showtime miniseries called your honor which begins on sunday. Cranston plays a new orleans. Judge whose life is torn apart after his teenage son gets into some sudden and very serious trouble are tv critic. David be cooley. Has this review bryan. Cranston had played the goofy dad on the fox sitcom malcolm in the middle then. Redefined himself brilliantly as walter white. The meek high school chemistry teacher in breaking bad. What made walter break. Bad was the sudden news that he had contracted terminal cancer leading to a series of increasingly momentous decisions. In the new showtime miniseries. Your honor cranston returns to series tv playing another character who gets some sudden life changing news. This time he plays. Michael desio a compassionate judge in new orleans and a single parent raising his teenage son after the death of his wife a year ago in an unexpected tragedy. On the day of that saturday anniversary the sun adam played by hunter. Doohan experiences an unexpected tragedy of his own after leaving flowers at the convenience store where his mother was an innocent bystander. Shot by robbers has an asthma attack while driving away he searches for his inhaler on the passenger seat and as he takes his eyes off the road he slams into a motorcycle driven by another teenager. Adam after returning home tells his father what happened next. Where did this happen. Okay okay so would be the new hospital. Then the emeralds. Taken to what in new orleans and i don't know well the police must have sex. Overweight drove away before the tried to can give you called nine hundred time to try to at least yes or no please. I could breathe okay. I got you guys. This ten part series begins like the. Hbo mini series the night of following a young man. He descends deeper and deeper into a horrifying spiral of accidents and consequences that engrossing 2016 mini series was created by peter moffett who adapted it from his own british series. Moffitt is the adapter of your honor as well but this time he's not working from his own story showtimes. Your honor is his new version of a twenty seventeen. Israeli drama called ca- votto which has the same basic plot and is available of sample on youtube but for this adaptation for the united states. The location is changed in new orleans and other elements are given an american spin from police brutality. To local criminal activity one thing stays the same though. And it's thing that makes your honor so gripping from the start the father doing the right thing as both a judge and a citizen escorts his son to the police station to turn them in with an explanation but when he gets there he sees the father of the victim and recognizes him as a powerful local mob boss. All of a sudden the judge realizes that to turn his son in would be to signed his death warrant so from that point on. What is the right thing to do. And how many people does he have to enlist or deceive to do it. There's a certain flavor of breaking bad this because we're essentially put in the position of sympathizing with and rooting for a person who's breaking and avoiding the law but that's not a complaint because breaking bad may be the best tv drama series ever made and bryan cranston once again crafts a marvelously nuanced and empathic performance. And in your honor. He's not alone. The executive producers in addition to moffitt in cranston include robert and michelle king the talented creators of the good wife. So both the characters and the legal twists are fully drawn hundred. Doohan as the judge's son has the same relatable acting skills cranston and needs to since he carries most of the show's opening our and other riveting characters and actors abound michael stool barred from. Tv's fargo plays. The mob boss and hope davis plays his wife as very fierce and involved sort of carmela soprano to his tony and while margo martindale from justified in. The americans doesn't show up as the judges mother-in-law until episode four. Wow is she worth the wait. The writers on your honor include moffitt himself and the directors include clark johnson. An actor and director way back on homicide life on the street and edward. Berger who did a marvelous job directing another showtime miniseries patrick metros showtime provided only four of the ten episodes of your honoring advance. Each one. both impressed and surprised me and made me hungry to see the next cranston's michael ziada is smart enough to think on his feet and almost every scene requires him to do just that to avoid exposure endanger and to protect his only son whatever the repercussions to others the series title. Your honor isn't just the judge's work title. it's also at the center of the show. When it comes to your family would you do to save them. And what effect will that have upon your moral code your relationships with others and your honor

Animal Crossing Sales and the Best Paper Mario Game
"Low and welcome to Nintendo voice chat. Jen's Nintendo podcast. I'm your host Casey defreitas's in this week, we will be talking about how animal crossing New Horizons is. Now the switches second best selling game will be talking a ton about paper Mario because it is the Japanese release anniversary of the original paper Mario, tennis sixty four, and of course, a whole lot. This week I'm joined by pair Snyder. Brennan Graber Low and for the first time Terry Shorts Hello Terry, you actually dude one of the paper Mario's for us I did I demanded it. No I asked very nicely and they were like, no in volunteers to review paper. Mario colors flashy sure Ken Yeah I guess it was funny because I didn't love it but I liked it more than sticker star but we had given sticker star a higher score in. So I got to my one review experience was the the fun joys of navigating like. How do I explain that? I like this more than the previous game but also explain why my score is lower than the previous reviews for I'm only a couple of hours into the new one though and I'm really enjoying it. Isn't that a pain though I'm sure everyone everyone deal with that before it's like. Well, I like it more than the swine they gave that one a really high score. So what do we do and then you know People figure it out like we all do. I don't know how you're asking. Hey, there are more than one person looks at Jin they had different opinions. Everyone knows it's not true. Pointed it out in the comments. Back back when we were running channels, we tried to make things match up and like even even when you have a small team of people reviewing all the sixty four games, you suddenly run into issues the moment like a playstation games ported and you're like, they gave obt and nine that's like a six for us, and so the moment like it just like trying to make things matchup between people broke down after less than a year. Funny? Teams I like first of all I'm so Casey. Thank you so much for having me on this episode because I love paper I, love the franchise and the First Paper Mario Game. We'll talk about it later but it's like tied for when my favorite games ever but it is funny because I realized recently came out when I was twelve open I totally. Have nostalgia for like it being perfection because my twelve year old Brian was like this is a perfect game and now I'm like an adult and consuming this in a different way. So probably who knows how if this was the first game that I played how I'd feel about it but it's such a special franchise and I'm glad we get to celebrate it. And I'm so glad to have you on this week not only to talk about paper Mario. But also I know you're a big Fan of animal crossing as well and I think it's pretty big news. The animal crossing your horizons is now the second best selling switch game. So nintendo released some financial data recently and we got a lot of INFO basically Emma crosses new highs sales have reached twenty, two million, which is crazy. It's insane right and can anyone guess what is beating it out for being the best selling? which game I'm sure every their Gal Mario Arts eight deluxe only other one. It's better that it's outsold smash and Zelda and Mario, Odyssey, which is insane yet Mario. Odyssey isn't even in the top five bestselling switch games anymore, which is also crazy. Yeah. I know people people always consider Games Lynn, ZELDA TO BE SYSTEM SELLERS Super Mario in the end. It is about booking on smash brothers animal crossing Mario, Kart those I usually at the top of every generation unless you have like a we sports or some odd ball game thrown into the middle bed like what's even more notable as you know, animal crossing is not a complete reinvention of animal crossing. So it's a little bit like an animal crossing deluxe, right? Like it's the best of all. The Games just like Mario Kart is not a new game. It's actually a re release of the last one. It'd be nice to see what what happens when they make a really new Mario Kart or a completely new game like that I? Think of all the the years to have to coast down the the fall lineup of not a whole lot. They're having animal crossing this year really helped kind of like ride that coaster of like what we we have a lot of profits this year. So maybe we'll have a giant released settle planned for this year that we know of. Looking, good for them. It's so lucky that came out when it did in in a really dark way because I think in a normal year, would we have seen animal crossing have this kind of response where I think which the stat fifty percent of all new consoles were playing animal crossing that during its release but it's at a time when it's coming out where people need to fill their time with something new and exciting and such an accessible game and everyone was playing it and celebrities were playing it, and so it's like during the pandemic when you're you're trying to fill all that time, it makes a lot of sense why this specifically. Blew up in such a big way especially more than all the previous installment. Did it really did get the corona bump but if you look at any sort of trend data available out there, if you look at twitter released a report on what people searched the most for or you know what topics were trending, the most like animal crossing on all these lists at this chart shows Google search interest in the biggest games in all of the Games on the list multiplayer games like call of duty war zone League of legends like any like any of the four, any of the big games and then animal crossing comes in goes. Like. CRANSTON. But it's not but it's not a competitive game where you're constantly, you know like you're measuring your rain or looking for versus yes you are very competitive with your island. No, it was just a right game at the right time we couldn't travel anywhere. So we wanted to show people

Gwyneth Paltrow shares 'back to basics' diet plan
"Gwyneth paltrow shared on her website, the back to basics diet that she's following while she's on lockdown. So what is when its definition of basic? We'll in her words. It's vetik eating for my Dosa. Intermittent fasting and it's fresh clean nutrient dense foods. So that's what apparently Gwyneth is ingesting. You know simple stuff. Do you guys think that this is practical? It's a lot of like wealthy people. They liked doing things that just have an effect on the body or an effect. That's just very basic, and then they go. How can I tie this into something spiritual? How can I tie this into something? That's got culture like. Medicine or Doshi Shia because in my life. I don't have a lot of culture as a rich celebrity who lives in my own bubble, and so you kind of try and inject culture wherever you can, which is why they do these things in my opinion. Allegedly and I've also made some. Dietary switches switch a ruse I left peanut butter, Cap'n crunch and went straight to golden grams. So you know the top of my mouth feels better because about cap in Cranston sometimes group up to top of your mouth and just look sacrifices. You have to make him get your body right. So apparently like the science behind Veda is that it's built behind like the five elements of? Air Water and fired so that's apparently supposed to help get. You'd be healthiest I. Don't know how you feel about that. I. Know Right I'd rather want to episode of Captain Plan on it just reminded me up right there. He. Your Your Life is interesting, and then you have the taste buds of a nine year old, and you also have the TV taste of an ideal and I love it I finally. Someone on the show I can relate to I. Can

Where's Canada's worst housing crisis?
"Wrote on P. is rental market not the type of thing You think about all that often Being out here in Toronto whether you're Vancouver Montreal but it's a It's a a pretty wild place I would say so. Tell me about even just one of the typical kind of stories. You hear from renters right so I've heard quite a bit from families out in Pi and they've been having a ton of trouble for years now. it's a really tight rental market not a lot of spaces particularly larger spaces. If you need three bedrooms. Let's say and they they really just can't find very much at all So UC on facebook all the time families pleading for any sort of tips on vacant units. They find themselves weeks away from Homelessness Day call apartment buildings month after month looking for something and invariably they hear that there's just nothing available. Can he give me some context Just in terms of how tough is it there. In terms of vacancy rate and and how difficult it is to get into these places to have numbers. Yeah absolutely so. If view all the way back to two thousand thirteen the apartment vacancy rate was about seven percent. That's pretty high. It's you know the type of rate where if you need you to place your there's GonNa be some options for you fast. Forward five years to two thousand eighteen zero point three percent so like nothing pretty much nothing yes and The there was literally nothing for three bedroom. Pi's at small enough place that you can count the vacant units quickly so circa twenty eighteen gene Given all the apartments that they have that means they're eighteen available apartments on the whole island so things improved a little bit in two thousand nineteen up to one point two percent vacancy but still the lowest on a provincial basis. It's still a really tight market. There's not a lot available. I mean the thing that really really grabbed me about this is that those are numbers worse than or even maybe now on par with you know the numbers we hear out of Toronto and Vancouver where these are the biggest biggest housing crisis in Canada. And how do people react. I mean you're based in Toronto when you put together a piece explained that no actually. The worst housing crisis in Canada is out east in Cranston Rhode Island. I think it's mostly surprise. You know when when you're based out in these cities you you tend to think you know this is where everyone wants to live in Candida. Therefore there's a ton of competition but in fact I mean there's there's a lot that's going on beneath the surface in. Pi Driving this when people hear about it from year here. We just think it's a place where you go on vacation or something but you know there's a lot of people living and working there and it's it's really tough and people they don't don't realize it mostly what are those underlying things that are driving The scarcity of rental units one big thing is population growth Pi. Okay I has grown a tremendous amount over the past say four or five years on top of that. There's just not been a lot of apartments built. I mean Pe- I compared with say here in Toronto where we're sitting Real estate market is You know prices are a little more modest. Let's say so you know years ago you'd have a lot of options for detached housing under one hundred and fifty thousand dollars Yes so you know developers is there there. They weren't really building apartment. Because you know someone with a middle class. Income Housing was pretty affordable for for ownership right. So that makes sense but then you get years. I'm not really building apartments. An influx of a ton of people and home prices have gone up quite a bit you know for a detached housing. Typical detached housing went up forty percent over over the past year. So now what used to be. Affordable isn't for a lot of people they need to rent and they haven't been building rentals so start with the first problem And I guess it's a really good problem for a place like P I have. Where did the growth in population come from right so The previous liberal government. They're made population growth with a key part of their economic plan. And really. That's that's a good thing right. You know when you're looking at any of the Atlantic provinces. They're really old. They need to get younger. They I need people. In a place like newfoundland their populations decreasing They desperately need people pe- I saw this and they said we got a ramp up these numbers so they started bringing in a lot of people that are entrepreneurship programs to bring in people from outside of Canada the trying to lure native islanders back to Pi. He is well so you know the numbers sound almost kind of funny over the past four years. Pi's population has increased by thirteen. Eighteen thousand. So that's just a fraction of what you would get in a given year and say the GTE shortly but thirteen thousand. That's nine percent increase over four years. That's nearly double the national rate of growth the highest growth of of any province over that spin so thirteen thousand is a big deal on an island of you know give or take a hundred and fifty thousand sure. That's a rough equivalent of that in Toronto would be what like three hundred three hundred fifty thousand people that span yet. Just you know if you were to blow it up Toronto wise I mean it would just be. We wouldn't know what to do with all those And what about the second challenge. I mean you mentioned that Now that houses are more more expensive some people are being forced to rent. Where's the new inventory coming from? Because again you think about how the bigger cities solve these problems like journal can throw up six new condo towers hours right. The developers are all over it. How does that work on an island with limited Limited resources but also just like space. Yeah there are definitely you know. The government airman has responded. There are more affordable units that are starting to come to market. They're throwing millions of dollars at this but A lot of what we're seeing. That's coming on and lot of develop developers are starting to reactor saying we need. There's a huge potential here for rentals. We need rentals but a lot of those are going to be at market rates right so P I like a lot out of a lot of provinces has rent control which for tenants is great. Because you know more or less that your rent increases year to year are going to be pretty limited. Let's I'd say around inflation two percents or so. But when a unit is vacated or a new unit comes onto the market the landlords can set it where they want right so the new listings. That are getting come. Available available in a lot is going to be a market rate. They're going to be a pretty high rate so the average rent in. Pi is somewhat modest. It's like you know nine hundred dollars that includes people who've been under rent control. It's they've rented an apartment for twenty years right on the island. But the new stuff you see you know fifteen seventeen eighteen hundred dollars for pretty modest accommodations so when you talk to people. They're either people who were trying to render. Just people who've lived there for quite some time. Where where are they feeling the squeeze and and what do they think the government should be doing one thing that you hear a lot from people? They're they're they're they're squeezes in a few different directions. One is that I'm just tons of families families that are unable to find the space so families of five. There are crowding into two bedrooms. As I mentioned earlier for three bedroom vacancies couple years ago there was literally nothing available so finding the space for families is has been a real challenge. Another one that I've heard about quite a bit is for students for Upi about about ninety percent of their housing is off campus. The only have a few hundred beds on campus. But what. I've been hearing from students that they're competing with the short term rental market a lot so sites it's like Airbnb. The touristy is still going in September when school starts so a lot of students are having to double up with other people who happen to have apartments wade out. The tourism season. Then get a rental for October. So there's quite a bit precariousness that you're seeing at the start of the school

It's his second Tony he, he won the first one for playing LBJ. Yep. And now last night, he wanted another one, and I've never I've told you this, Steve. I've never seen anybody have a nervous breakdown on stage where they break out in a full sweat, and her crying actual tears. Right. And he did it eight times a week. Yeah. And, and so congrats to our friend Bryan, Cranston, who and you and I both had the really cool experience of going and seeing then going backstage insane. You know what's always weird is when the Tonys around I, I go back to thinking about when I was a kid and I wanted to be an actor. And I always thought. Yep. Someday. I'll I'll be on Broadway. Just watch a circle while people were singing and talking about it, your life can turn on a dime, and Brian's, a great example of that. Brian was basically a character actor. He played Tim watt lead the dentist. He was really funny on Seinfeld. He played the dad, on Malcolm in the middle by any measure. He he was having successful career. Very, very successful. "It was a really fascinating discussion I stumbled upon online. And it was about the new Bryan, Cranston and Kevin Hart movie. Scene. It's beautiful story that is being adapted from a French movie originally called the untouchables, and it's a story of. I guess in the movie, it's a an African man who lives in FRANZ, French guy, and he gets employed by this rich paraplegic man to come in like Luke off to him. And it's like, you know, pairing, and they they get to know each other. And it's a beautiful story. And I saw Kevin Hodson Bryan Cranston remaking the movie, and it looks like it's going to be good. And what's interesting is. There was like a big, you know, outrage online that started up yesterday where people complaining saying why is Bryan Cranston playing a disabled person? Why didn't they get a disabled persons to play disable push? And I'm online my first instinct 'cause I love Bryan, Cranston. My first incident. Oh, you being seriously come on, man? We're going to now. Actors actors are going to act like the whole point of everyone. Who is the thing the thing that on acting then it's just the thing documentary like that's the whole point of acting. You come home, of course, gonna play the push. And then you don't have online. Everyone swears that each other. Nobody speaks anymore. No one has a conversation. That's nuance. But there was one one actor who is in a wheelchair, and I didn't know of him. I know he is just just wrote a ready cogent beautiful response. Online didn't fight with anybody. Didn't call anybody. Anything didn't judge anybody? And he completely opened my perspective. I never thought of he said I understand what an actor is an actor. He's but I'm an actor in a wheelchair and. I never see parts that are leading roles for person in a wheelchair. And so the one time I see a role where there's a person in a wheelchair. I think this could be it could be the moment where I I have all of the tools necessary to play this part. Do I get a shot at playing? It's. And and he was like because when you think of it on the flip side, they never call people with wheelchairs in to play able bodied people, and they'll get able body to people to play people in wheelchairs. And I was like I just I never thought of it like that. My perspective, obviously has someone who is not in Wiltshire. I I never thought of it that way, and I sat down I was like, it's it's it's powerful. Because you don't think about representations. You don't think about how important this where people to see themselves on screen like like in a real way? And at the same time. I don't think Bryan Cranston did anything wrong. I don't think everything has to be a fight. It's just a moment to be like, hey, maybe next time in Hollywood people can look at that. And go maybe you can get a relatively unknown actor to play that role. And then put them the opposite. They're maybe becomes their breakout. Maybe this becomes the thing that blows them up. And that's where you realize how powerful representation is because if your personal wheelchair, and how many movies come along with the lead character is in a wheelchair virtually none. And I honestly I even myself. I was like oh, man. I have to try and understand that a little bit more. Was it was I opening and I did understand it when he said like that a bit because I remember when they announced the lion. The restaurant theater district said you, Bryan, Cranston. You had a story. Yes. Bryan, Cranston is coming under fire for taking a role in an upcoming movie called the upside he is going to be playing a quadriplegic billionaire who forms an unlikely friendship with a former convict that's played by Kevin Hart. And a lot of people are saying the casting of what they call an able bodied person in a disabled role is not appropriate. Really what Cranston says look as actors whereas to play other people all the time if is a straight older person, and I'm wealthy. I'm very fortunate. That mean, I can't play a person who is not wealthy does. That mean, I can't play homosexual. He's absolutely right as an actor actress should be able to play all sorts of different parts. Now. I could see there's flag sometimes when they have a white person play Latino role or somebody you don't do that much anymore. But I'm just saying that that's come up from time to time. "In the morning, David Amy on five seventy KLIF, Eric and Bryan Cranston has an actual actor. You know, the guy from breaking bad. Apparently, he is now being forced to defend his decision to play a quadriplegic in the upcoming film. The upside is going to be a very controversial film because it has both Brian. Cranston who is not a paraplegic playing a paraplegic and also Kevin Hart playing Kevin Hart and Kevin Hart's bad. We know because Kevin Hart made a joke like ten years ago about gay people. So that film is just going to be destroyed by the social Justice warriors. According to Emily's naughty over at daily wire Cranston is being forced to defend playing a quadriplegic because this is how stupid things have gotten on the FDA w is that if you're an actor, and you play somebody who is in any way, disabled, that's very bad of you what we need. Instead is somebody disabled playing somebody who's disabled just like we need an actual crypto Nghien who has an allergy to kryptonite to play superman and just like we have to find blue giants from another planet to play the characters in avatar after all if we don't do this. How will all of those out of work actors ever get a job? How's it going to happen? I mean, if we allow people to play roles if we allow people to actually, you know, act, then all we're really doing is depriving people. Who identify as those people in real life? Now, all of this gets super confusing because presumably the left would like for a trans woman to play a real woman. But then you're practical real woman of the role that a trans woman would play as a real woman. See gets weird. But this is great, Bryan. Cranston says we live in a world of criticism if we're willing to get up and try something we have to also be willing to take criticism or very aware of the need to expand the opportunities for people with disabilities. The idea here is that people with disabilities can't get enough jobs in Hollywood. So if there's a part that has disabilities involved, you can't have a regular actor playing that part. There's only one problem with this. Basic idea acting is mainly not about having the characteristics of the character. It's about the thing known as acting. So if you have a choice between somebody who can convincingly play paraplegic can also be a great actor, and apparently Jake who just can't act or isn't as good as Bryan Cranston, which I can't imagine. There are very many actors period where as good as Bryan Cranston. Then you're going to pick me better actor. Who also can play the physical role Cranston said as actors were asked to play other people if is a straight older person, and I'm wealthy and I'm very fortunate Zamin. I can't play a person who is not wealthy Zamin. I can't play a homosexual. I don't know. Where's the restrictions apply? Where's the line for that? The answer is all of those lines apply. We need only the corpse of, Freddie. Mercury to play. Freddie. Mercury. It's the only way to do it. Otherwise, how will his estate make any money we need to dig him up? We need to reanimate him said he can play, Freddie. Mercury. Or maybe we need a professional, Freddie. Mercury impersonator who who's gay or bisexual who can actually play, Freddie? Mercury in bohemian rhapsody. We cannot have a straight actor like Randy Malik playing the character of frame mercury in a move interests. The movie is a remake of a twenty eleven French film called lay on untouchables. It starts Cranston as a wealthy man paralyzed from the neck down and Kevin Hart is an ex convict hired to care for cranston's character around the clock, but who eventually teaches cranston's character to enjoy light despite his hardships as I was the plot of the original movie Kevin Hart, by the way has never been in jail. So it seems to me that we should only have an ex convict play this part because app. Have say ex-convicts are having a tough time out there getting jobs. So wouldn't it be fairer that you'd have to have gone to jail to actually play this role through Roman family foundation, which advocates on behalf of disabled Americans was quick to point out the Cranston took a role that could have gone to an actor actually suffering from near complete paralysis taking a page from previous campaigns against white actors playing people of color. The foundation suggested that cranston's casting was now discrimination other SJ ws compared cranston's portrayal of a quadriplegic bans who black face now. This is just insulting. Okay. Anybody who knows anything about black? What black face was was a bunch of horrible white people dressing up as black people to mock black people that was the purpose of black face. We talked about this in the context of Megan Kelly asking why it was bad to dress up as Diana Ross Halloween and a lot of people said, well that's black face. And it's the same thing as people doing it in one thousand nine ten to do a sort of horrifying black face. Mock. The mock the. N words routine. Right. That's what they were doing in nineteen ten when they were actual horrible racist. So now, they're suggesting that Bryan Cranston sympathetically playing a quadriplegic is the same thing as a white racist. Playing a black person to mock black people in nineteen ten as black face. Now. Pretty amazing. Hey, Adam Pearson is one of these critics he says of disability and the disabled experience with twenty plus able bodied actors winning awards in the same period. Only two disabled actors have been awarded the same accolade. In other words, it's just unjust that not enough disabled actors have what awards therefore, Bryan, Cranston shouldn't do this. This is the same thing that happened with Scarlett Johansson who is set to play a transgender woman in a film called rub and tug, and then the ashtray w said, well, she can't play a transgender woman. We need a man who thinks he's a woman's play a transgender woman. But not a man who is playing a man who thinks he's a woman it actual, man. Who thinks he's a woman? Anderson not a biological, man. Playing a woman and not a biological woman. Playing a trans woman a biological man who actually has the disorder in which. He thinks he's a woman playing that part perfect. Perfect. The film's director defended casting Cranston the role. He said he made every effort to be as sensitive as possible to those who might identify with the film's lead. Character. All of this is so stupid Daniel day Lewis in my left foot won an Oscar for playing a guy who was basically quadriplegic, but he could paint and and do things with his foot. Right. I mean that was the title of the movie my left foot. I guess we have to take away his Oscar now because we have to make sure that people are what they say. They are and this holds twin politics. Also, if Elizabeth Warren say, she's a native American we must make sure that she is a native American afro, she's the one who claimed it but Elizabeth Warren in the presidential race. It's amazing. You're seeing a fake groundswell for her now. So as Elizabeth Warren gonna win the nomination. No, Elizabeth Warren is not going to win the nomination. She is a charmless hack. I and she used to be interesting. If you go back and read her books from two thousand to two thousand three you go back to that period. Big advocates school vouchers. She talked about what you call the two income trap. The idea that we need to make it easier. So that people can stay home women can stay home with their kids if they would like to and that the two income trap means that parents have to make sure they're hiring, Danny and all the. And these are all interesting idea. She's abandon all of those. Now, she has just a down the line democratic socialists of America progressive hack, but she's kind of like Hillary Clinton. And so the media love her Karen Tumblety, a columnist over at the Washington Post has a column today called Elizabeth Warren has something Hillary Clinton didn't she something Hillary Clinton didn't. Well, I mean, she has a husband who didn't strip the help in the Oval Office. There's that to start. But here's Karen penalty wrote the winds get into the final event of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren's weekend tour of Iowa began forming two and a half hours in advance standing at the very front with Kristen westerner. And her daughter Elena arriving for the Sunday morning forum early extra early was Elaine is idea despite the January chill the nine year old wanted to be absolutely sure she will get a prime spot to see the all but announced democratic presidential candidate as nine year olds. Do you know nine year olds indoctrinated by the parents, you know, like actual normal murals. I gotta go see the old lady at the Iowa breakfast club. That's what I I I know as a parent of a near five. I expect the one she's nine she's going to be like, you know, what I thought I must must must go. See that latest Heritage Foundation panel. It's just something. I have to do I have an interior need to do. It her mom, Kristen a psychology. Professor is hoping Warren can do what Hillary Clinton. This is the real story. I love how Tumblety makes it. It's it was it was it was the nine year olds idea. It wasn't the professor psychology. Mom's idea who supports Elizabeth Warren. Was her nine year olds really got this plan. I love when the left blames their issues on their kids and Jimmy Carter way back when when he was president. He blamed his nuclear policy on his seven year old daughter or something and that is in a great place to get nuclear policy. And now we're doing this with with with our children, which is just absurd. I promise I'm never gonna take political cues for my small children. You know, why children are stupid? That's why they go to school nationally. We shouldn't pay that much attention to nine year olds we should care for them and make them into civilized humans but nine year olds when they say something shockingly intelligent. It's usually like by an adult standard like three on the intelligence scale when my five year old says I'm in your five year old when she says something super smart again. I mean like for five year old I don't mean that I should start taking voting from her. There may be upward of two dozen presidential contenders coming through Iowa over the thirteen months between now and it's first in the nation. Caucuses Kristen says that Elizabeth wars at the top of the list. And here's Karen Tumblety starts the real pitch. The political insider chatter is already suggesting that Warren might have a likability problem just like the one that supposedly was Clinton's downfall. If two or three other women joined the race, which appears likely they will no doubt your that as well. As a headline on the humerus mcsweeney website. Our hit women candidates. I just hated Hillary, and coincidentally I'm starting titles before well, you can not like Hillary is the candidate. And also not like Elizabeth Warren because they're both charmless. There are charming democratic female candidate. As much as I make fun of Alexandro court has she's charming. She's likable as much as I mock other candidates in public office. There charming likeable women in public office on both sides of the aisle was Warren just happens not to be one of them. But we'll get to more of the democratic media's pitch for Elizabeth Warren. Yes, she's their best. Hope. Good luck with that. In just one second first. Let's talk about how you shave each morning. I love the Dollar Shave Club has everything I need to look feels..
"cranston" Discussed on Stuff You Should Know
"Tickets available for January first show. So I don't know if they extended it or not yet. And it's it's funny. Like, forty grand sounds like a lot of money over a couple of months in it is. But when you break it down per show, it it breaks down to about one hundred thirty five bucks a show. Yeah. Which all of a sudden, it doesn't seem like great money. No. But that's what you make as a standard cast member for a Broadway union dancer. Yeah. Or actor variety performer. I think is the they're they're part of so no, it doesn't seem like much. But that's another reason why the rocket gig is so good. You get overtime on those days when you do third fourth show, you're getting overtime pay and there's multiple shows in in on multiple days. So you can I mean if an other actor at a different gig working the same days over the same period would not make that amount of money that forty grand because they wouldn't have any overtime. They wouldn't. Have that many shows? Yeah, don't think anyone like dreams of going to Broadway to become rich and wealthy like part of the allure. Broadway is year with the best of the best, and you can say a dancer I saying right acted on Broadway with Bryan Cranston. I saw Broadway. Yeah. I saw Michael Mckee and numbered way. Oh, yeah. In a compass. Audience was the accomplish. That was the big twist. Oh, well, you just ruined that one was it good. It was great. It was one of the greatest stage performances of ever seen. I saw Lenny. Onstage Dirk Saint Hogan's. Yeah. This is before I knew him as anything, but Lenny I was like eight oh, this is a while ago. Cranston isn't something new on Broadway. Now, I think to network right, man. I wanna see that. Sure. That's good. I saw that. It was described as get this. Chuck get ready for this. Boy, electrifying really kid Broadway show described as electrifying his performance was electrifying. Don't think of ever heard that word used theater. So another thing though, about the rockets, even though they do make most of their money over those couple of months, and then they have the rest of the year to and a lot of cases be like a dance instructor or something like that or fitness instructor. They increasingly are working more more more and more months out of the year. Whether it's as ambassadors for the rockets or doing like video things for YouTube. They are increasingly called on to do other other things. Yeah..
