How the Blues Went From Last Place to the Stanley Cup Finals

"The the Stanley Cup playoffs star next week and for flyers fans Craig. Ruby being in. It is terrific is just this is such a great guy a coach played here. He played number teams and he always got asks back he you know, he came back. I think three different teams as a player would shows you what people think of you as a person. So that's terrific. Then the blues move on, but only curious about the blues started the whole turnaround with the victory here in Philadelphia. And I love when there's music associated with a team like the eagles have their fight song. A lot of teams now have adopted certain songs that Chicago Blackhawk Blackhawks had a song that somebody in Pittsburgh didn't make forget the rapper that did it in in there. But. Louis Blues have adopted Gloria, and it's all over the place. And. Got it here in Philly from a bar in Philly, which now has become like a big landmark place. It's like it's like here in phila- flyer bar or Philadelphia bar. That is now the touchstone for the Saint Louis blues when, when you when the Saint Louis blues play like the one of the nucleus places bar in Philadelphia Jackson, a private place. And that's where they all glorious things started. And it's so weird to, to have an a team from another city have your city as their touchtone place for the for the music taken over there. It's crazy when they play this thing. And there's certain things that happen like that. When you have a song that becomes so important. I know even Rod Stewart said he was almost brought to tears. I think it was sailing his song that they played at some soccer thing when they when they when they won a whatever they went over there, and soccer and that that's so cool that that's here and it began right here in Philadelphia. And when you get songs that are kind of Societa, that's when you really got something going, it's really weird in sports. How strange things can really come bring a team together. Like corny things can really bring a team together. When you get dog masks, stupid thing like dog masks, and bring a team together. So you certainly know when you play certain kind of music, I remember when, when the fills one when victory would play the Bob Marley thing ever west coming up to play when we came up that Kasmir. It's really, really nice when that happens. It's really different when that happens. And that happened with them. And the Saint Louis blues story has its roots right here in Philly right here in Philadelphia. It's so odd that, that would happen, and of course, like everybody's all these national stories now. And this little bar in Philadelphia. It's so odd that, that would happen. And both teams are basically basement dwellers when this happened it was right after the, the after the double then the, the blues were here like a day or two after that, and they would have been watching that game. And had this song, come on. And then you go to their game because a rookie goalie who's now is a chance to be in the MVP the whole darn playoffs. Start everything we're here in Philadelphia to barn Philadelphia. So that's where that thing is going. So some local interests, especially with chief. Chief being behind behind the, the, the bench,

Stanley Cup Playoffs Daily: Blues push Sharks to the brink

"Us now after a big Blue's win in San Jose. Alex Ferrario thanks for coming on overnight, America. Well right now. Right. I'm so inept up. I'll come on, anytime you want. At this point, I'm getting sick of all the San Jose fans. It's like Crimea river already. So the blues after the debacle with the NHL, who has since admitted they made a mistake, when it came to the hand pass, the have come out swinging. They've only lit up one goal in the last two games a big five nothing victory today in San Jose with game. The next game game six coming to Saint Louis on Tuesday night. I wanna get your impressions of this big game five victory. What are your thoughts? Well, honestly if surprised at how much they dominated the betas as sharks, you know, I'd go back to that game six against the one picked. Yes, Ryan, where what was on the brink of elimination and blues held them to two or three shots. I believe through the first two periods of the game. And you know this I think was the biggest game of the season for both teams. I mean, I don't think either side what's to be down three to two in the series, and especially now that it's coming back to St Louis where the blues can eliminate San Jose Sharks, where they're two for two and elimination games playing in St Louis. So I was very surprised at how much the Blu Ray able to dominate San Jose Sharks. But the end of the day you just gotta take into the Packers. I mean Jordan bidding to outstanding for the shot that he did see the blue defense was even better limiting David n shots. The final two periods of the game. But at the end of the day, I mean, the blues have gotten to stand. Jose sharks. They're in their head. I mean I you have an air Carlson was injured. Didn't play the third period. Philosophy hurdle is injured and didn't play in the third period and then three other guys left early in the third period, two of them because they tried to get fancy a nasty with their place. So they were down to nine eight or eight skaters at the end of the hockey game. So I mean, the blues just completely dominated Ryan, and they got into the day, sharks his head. And, you know, I think right now the sharks are way way big underdogs going into Tuesday night in in game. Six. Yeah. And the way that the blues have just been able to play their game. They're playing solid hockey in. It's just amazing to see how they could smother the opportunities of the opponent. We saw towards the end of the last series. And now we're seeing with the given a very limited shots and even quality shots against San Jose. So comes back here. And I think the blues got the eye of the tiger. You know how exciting this is for Saint Louis to know we could close this out and go to the Stanley Cup finals on home ice. I know the pressure is there, but the blues are looking so good. Yeah, they really are. And I mean you know you gotta take him to the consideration. Some of the other things from the game today to Ryan you know, the offense terrorists Saco with three point four points. But the goal in to assist James sports with another hat trick. I mean, we spent we spent so much time throughout the postseason talking about where the big names are where the top scores are. And now they're starting to show their faces against the San Jose Sharks team. And this is huge coming back to say Lewis because not only are you going for an elimination game while you're trying to do something that hasn't been done since nineteen seventy I mean, think about that, for a minute, almost fifty years since the blues have been in a Stanley Cup final, and they could police their spot to go to that on Tuesday night in Saint Louis and taking a consideration. Everything that took place that season from firing Mike, yo to bringing in Craig ruby as the interim head coach and springing up, Jordan Bennington. And fighting through adversity and fighting through everybody. That said there's no chance of loose can do this. And now they're about to push their ticket to the family Cup finalists. Just incredible. Think about in. I mean, honestly, it gives me goosebumps to think about how loud enterprise center, we'll be back to twenty sixteen. When the blues eliminated Chicago Blackhawks from the playoffs in the first round and means that place blew the roof off of the Scott Trade Center at the time. Yeah, multiply that a hundred if they pull out a victory on Tuesday night, and I think it's a big if because look San Jose Sharks knack for gets the wall. And if they could find a way to get their injured is in the lineup. They're going to be dangerous team to deal with plus the watch party that they had is a pretty good indicator. The fans are just ready man. They are a Hong grief for this. How cool was it to see that? Yeah. Yeah. Petrocelli are phenomenal food assistance through regular season. In most seasons. That'd be a video. He was there. And from what I understand they sold out that enterprise, and now they weren't selling out tickets for the top fortune. They were telling them for the lower portion, but you said that they were sold out that place was loud, that place was Brockie in, in the top dad. Both part of village was shoulder to shoulder from what I understand watching those games. So the city is guiding for a Stanley Cup championship. The city is dying to be in the finals and to be in there is one thing. Let's do it with the storyline that the blues put together this season. I mean, if you think about it Ryan this could go down. If the blues were to accomplish this daily come this could go down as one of the best duck and tap run in the history of the National Hockey him, it could go down as one of the best seasons in the National Hockey League for a team that was. Last in the NHL January stuck in considered to be done talking about trading away their top players. And now you're sitting here talking about playing the Boston Bruins in the first earned the final round of the Stanley Cup playoff just on real to think about it is really is. So this is really unreal. Five wins is all it's gonna take now five wins to be that close considering where we were just in January. So I wanted to talk to you about the game. That's on Tuesday night. The blues have been looking great ever since that hand pass man. They've been ignited they got that either tiger going on. What are you looking for on Tuesday night here in Saint Louis? Oh, you're gonna have to look for them to be responsible. Because like I mentioned San Jose is going to be a very dangerous team. I mean look they're one of the highest scoring teams of the regular season in the postseason for the NHL and you know that all centers around what will happen with Erik Carlson. I found it really interesting today after the game, you know, was asked if he looks back on his decision of playing Eric Carlson and regrets it. And, you know, he said hindsight, you can't really sit there. But you got to do it all over again. Yeah, you probably would have spread Carlson because of that nagging groin injury and didn't play the third period. So look, you gotta wait to find out what the lineup it'd be a look like if we're gonna have a Carlson Belsky hurdle looking to any of those big time players for the game. But, you know, Tuesday's gonna come down to the blues remaining focused on what they're trying to accomplish. You know, these guys have talked about how big it was Craig ruby to come into the locker room after game three without hand fast and tell them it's done move on. Get ready for this one. And I think that is the reason why the team is where they are right now trying to win. It's hard to go to Stanley Cup. Yeah. You know, it's, it's going to have to be ready for that game going gonna have to be ready for a hard push from the San Jose Sharks in the first period. But who's got the fan side behind him. They got the whole night's behind them enough to click. So I think if they just do what they've done so far this season. And then in the postseason, I again I know it sounds dumb, but simple hockey is what's going to win the series for them. I gotta say that Tarasenko shootout goal Goldman or the penalty. Schott. What a laser shot from him man. And I think that these players I mean they're going out there and you saw kind of a balancing act. Sometimes you see the star player step up and sometimes you see the role player step up. You've had a pretty good mix of that going in which is pretty good indicator. Plus, you've got a great backstop with Bennington that's been playing well what an exciting time. Can I just vent about one thing? I'm so. Sick of NBC in their coverage of this, you know, every time they go back to their analysis. They could care less about Saint Louis, you know, they, they focus, here's what San Jose's doing wrong in. Here's their chances of coming back. They could care less about Saint Louis. I'm getting so sick of this. Yeah. Me. You know what I guess I should say surprise me those kinda surprised because if you look at the TV ratings in this in the previous game and really throughout the playoffs Louis is dominated television ratings for these days, which goes to show you that people in St Louis care, the people outside of St Louis, tear keeping more about watching this thing. Sixteen people saying they don't even really care about hockey. They were going after the third goal scoring. I know on afternoon. So but you know what? What's four frustrating to me is just the consistent. I dunno pumping the tires of players like Joe Thornton, and players like jokes Avella ski and Logan. The tour. I, I mean just any chance, they get the talking about how great it would be killed when a Stanley Cup for the amount of time. He's been in the NHL what's up forget about Jake Bohm Easter who's been in the NHL just as long as Joe Thornton, who's never wanna Stanley Cup. I think that's a very intriguing side of it. And then you're. Talking about Logan could tour with his eleven goals in the postseason, which is, you know, high up there since two thousand ten with Alex. Oh, betchine's. Well, let's look at Jay Schwartz. Who's one goal away from tying a blues record for most postseason goals with bread home. And I like I get it. You wanna California team in there if you're NBC, and you want the California Boston, west coast, east coast at the end of the day they never wanna Stanley Cup was dying for Stanley Cup.

"The upper hand. All right. Alex. A lot of fun here at the SAP center at San Jose blues in sharks game one. I'll tell you what these two teams since two thousand EV really had. I think becomes some terrific playoff rivals. Yet. San Jose is the eight seed upending the Saint Louis blues who are the presidents trophy winning team in the two thousand playoffs two thousand one the Saint Louis blues. Well, they you'll all the way to the conference final. But the do that they had to beat San Jose in the first round exercise the demon from the year before in two thousand four Mike kitchen was the head coach the blues replace Joel Quenneville blues finished as the eight seed and the sharks end up beating them in that series blues into winning the series in two thousand twelve in the first round. And now, of course, we've had these two series the two thousand sixteen and this one go to the conference final with more at stake. Yeah. Heck of a lot of fun. It's a Riddick series coming your way. And we'll just see which team is better than I grew was asked just another terrific. Question. And I say that so much ghastly wouldn't a medium Etem prior to the game today. And somebody said, well what what do you think is going to determine the outcome of tonight's game? And I mean, I gotta give I mean, I I don't know why ask that question. But to give them all the credit in the world which team ever team plays better. Then he gave a better answer than that. But I do like what he said really is gonna come which team executes better. These teams are well coast, and well prepared I was really hoping you finish that statement that Craig ruby answered with the team who has more goals at the end of the night. No, he's listened creek ruby..

"Hello takes a lot of work. But it takes everybody on the ice. You know takes everybody on the ice. Where you glad to see the response when KOMO ran into Kennedy. Do you think the contact could have been avoided? Well, it could have been avoided for sure. But you know, our guys you know, they're going to protect their teammates. And you know, unfortunately, you know, we didn't get a power play out of it, which I you know, I think we should have. But you know, I gotta look at it closer. But it is what it is. We're going to we're going to respond to you know, we gotta get the guys got to know the protector teammate. Is this the kind of series? We can we can expect it's title there. Yeah. It's tough foxy physical hockey through some big hits the night. Again. There are good team. You know, they got good size. Really good players. It's going to be a tight series. It's you know. That's what you're going to see tonight is what you're going to see. It seems like playoffs. Keep going the pressure gets higher and Bennington keeps doing everything that he's been doing all along. Yeah. He's he played a great game tonight. And you know, gave us a good chance to win the game. And we did he's he's been great all playoffs. Goal. Well, we thought the whistle went. But apparently, you know, I didn't apparently that wasn't the case. So. Look like, the whistle went, but I guess not Craig ruby, and I know Jordan Bennington, saying the same thing, but I guess not the words of the blues coach another break. And then we're back to look ahead to Saturday wrap up blues over the stars three two in game one tonight of their Western Conference semi-final series. Chris Rabi with you on our post game coverage. "Let's talk it over with the head coach of the Saint Louis blues Craig ruby as we get set here for today's game final game number eighty two which sometimes coaches season may seem like it flies. Sometimes it seems like you could drag on where do you put this season on the meter a little of both, obviously when you're not, you know, we were doing well and going through some tough times tracks on for sure, you know, you know, it's not easy go through special for the players. But you know, once we got going here, we're we're having a lot of fun. And you know, we're looking forward to the next game and thankful by quarter. So played today before some other teams play and having opportunities still impact the standings. I know the approach will be the same as it has always been. But is that scenario type stuff something is still front and center on the mind of the guys in the room? Definitely I think it's the motivation for today's game where we're going to where we can end up in a standing could end up first then. The division which is great accomplishment for sure and also just maybe have home ice. He played the Vancouver connects a couple of times. Now, both those games were in December as you were still working just kind of getting the team going the way you want. But what can you take from those games in terms of what to expect today? They have some really good forward for sure and some high end for. You know, they could sport. So I think we're a little loosen both games to be honest with you. So tonight, we're looking at check this check them guys lot better than we did. They got a lot of young guys in the lineup, and they're going to be they're going to be energetic. So we've got gotta make sure you have good energy in this game and good focus special the first period, the guy like Robert Thomas that is played so well in the wing for you because of the depth that center wind shifts come when lines coming. There's a chance to put him in the middle. Is it fitness style of play yet does for sure played centers. Most of these young junior Hawkins stuff great passer real. No that. So I'm looking forward to seeing them there. Could let today thank you very much for lucid coach Craig groovy..

"Basis teams so dangerous going down the stretch can for life out there, consistently even ice time. Forever. We liked that definitely for sure like that balance. You know, I liked that fourth line to do what they're doing right now is a big thing for me. We wanna see. Points play hockey consistency. We got best team in league coming in here Saturday. We're out to play. Well. Very good. It's hard to pick out any weaknesses entertain. We played them. Obviously earlier. I can't remember exactly when we won one nothing in overtime. It was a great game. And it was a hard game. But they're pretty solid all around goaltender defense forward for group. Lot of scoring but grit to and speed they got a lot of stuff. They got a lot of weapons you gotta play. Really? Well. Craig ruby after the five to win. We're gonna talk about that and more on our fourth period tonight curbs, Alex. I self. We'll be with you until eleven o'clock following our texts post game show, but we'll take one more break. Come back. Take a look at the scoreboard. A big gain the blues had their eyes on that came down to a shootout, some playoff implications. Where will everyone sit at nights? "Once the player the game post game reaction from the players and more breakdowns analysis and opinions from Chris Rabi, Alex Ferrario and Amy Mark scores. This is a blues postgame show. It starts now. One final score blues. Fall to the stars. Welcome back inside enterprise center. It's the tax layer post game show, Alex Ferrario with you as the blues now dropped two to three in one since that win streak snapped. And urgency was the word Craig ruby used this evening before the puck dropped he needed to see that from the team. Unfortunately, they didn't have that against the Dallas Stars, Jamie. Ben has his way once again with Saint Louis the offense on inspiring in this one in the blues to find a way to put this streak in the other direction as the playoffs just continue to inch closer in the blues now holding onto that spot by only three points over the Dallas Stars. We'll get some reaction for the blues. Locker made me Mark scores will be back up and just a bit. We'll hear from Craig ruby. But we get the mercy postgame breakdown now with Chris Kerber and Joey vitality. Yeah. Unfortunately, this one goes away the Dallas Stars. And at this point time of the season. Joe's blues ended a busy month of February go into March. They're still playing that busy schedule. They they have four or five sets. Back to backs still to come this year. And if there's something to Saint Louis blues you're gonna do if they're going to continue to push to make the playoffs because they've got as good a chance to make the playoffs. But they still have that same equal chance to fall out as they dropped the two three and one since that eleven game win streak they've got to find a way to play better hockey on the second game back to backs you you you can't be flat. You can't come out. And and we're not talking. I know we talked a little bit about the young guys and just indifferent. Play from some of the young players on this team. But yet indifferent play from the drugs veterans as well. And and that's going to have to be an issue because there's going to be and we got another back to back coming up middle of the week with Anaheim and Los Angeles. Yeah, we do the schedule is not getting any easier. And you know, for whatever reason Dallas Stars they have Saint Louis number this year. I mean, look at Nashville look at Winnipeg the blues match up very well against seem that they look at Colorado again, another good team in this division. The blues matchup buffalo, whatever reason the Dallas Stars just had their number of spa. Speaking of Jim nill between the first and second period. And and he didn't really understand quite the reality of it either. Because. Was such a good team. And he can't figure out why the Dallas Stars do. But they do and you go back last week when the Saint Louis blues loss Dallas in Dallas that snapped the eleven game win streak for me. That was the game where the blues the wheels started kind of coming up. I can look back at the last six games and aside from that Nashville game. I don't know if there was a a really solid game. The blues have played I think they have to get a lot of things figured out. Luckily, they have three days now a bit of a rest to kind of sorts of things outlook at that Boston in shootout to me. I I don't know if they really deserve to win that game. Minnesota lost an overtime, Jake. Allen played terrific, the Dallas that Carolina the Dallas again. I mean, the blues took that eleven game win streak as terrific as it was things are starting to kind of come undone a little bit I expect Craig booby to make some adjustments. We still have Brayden Schenn David Brown there on the I R we could see them here this week, but something needs to give because right now as you mentioned curbs were pretty close the number one spot Barosso pretty close to blame ourselves out of the playoff spot as well. So it's just that is just that tightness. Division right now, it is when you have this kind of schedule this type of of the year to the pressure's gonna get bigger teams are going to be playing tighter teams are going to be playing desperate. And you have to elevate your game. You get young guys that haven't shown the ability to elevate their game at Doug Armstrong said at the trade deadline. Look, these are the guys that got us here. We're going to see if they can do it. They have to do it your test your depth getting tested. We see Shannon, perran skating. But then when we ask questions about their availability. There's no inkling that these guys are close. You know, it it. It's kind of on those guys whenever they're ready. And and the team doesn't know with those guys are going to be ready. Will they come on the next trip who knows? But you gotta dance with the people that you're at the dance with and that's where the blues have to find a way whether it's chemistry on a line. You gotta Riley now at five point five games without a point. That's his longest drought of the season when it comes to that to trying to find a left winger there. And I'll tell you what to me. This little slide here of inconsistent play really coincides with win. Brayden Schenn ended up falling out of the lineup due to injury. And the lineup juggling is really discombobulated the flow of this hockey team. Yeah, really has because you lose brain Chen. And then everyone has kind of move up a little bit. I mean, you had you know, Barbara Shelvin sunk was working together. Now, they're split up Sammy blaze being inserted Sanford's on a different line. Alexander steen. He's been in and out, so scissors and brain Shannon, wasn't just like you lose a player. You put another player back in that spot. I think you know, Craig ruby tried that it didn't really work with would jeans Schwartz. So nice, gene, swertz jumping down. You see Robert Thomas wound up we saw Sammy please start on the fourth lines. Now, he's on the first. So everyone is just kind of all over the place and to me when you do that. It's just a complete identity crisis at times where players don't really know what style of play takes any for example. He comes in here the game tonight. He's a fourth line winger. He's thinking he's gonna play seven minutes. He just gonna crash and burn. He's on dump the puck, and he's going to how. Pox. He's gonna finish the checks, and he did all those things here tonight. Now in the third period, he's playing with a top wind. So again, it's it's not excuses, but you have to figure out a way to adjust your game accordingly in they need a spark. They need young guys right now, they need them to come through the misstep big was Hsien out with Peron out. You're gonna depend your depth than you. You mentioned Doug Armstrong. He didn't make a lot of noise. The trade deadline that this is the team. He wants to do these young guys gotta grab this opportunity. When you have some veterans out, and you got to take advantage of it. I mean, if if I was an opportunity play at wino- Ryan, Vladimir Tarasenko, I I mean, I would do anything and everything and I think they're trying to night. But it just really not clicking the blues. Have got it. Right this ship because I tell you what I it's getting close right now naming Dallas Stars were desperate teamer tonight. The Carolina Hurricanes were a desperate team. They're both wildcard spot. They're trying to scratch and claw back into this thing. The blues and the flip side, maybe they took a little step back. Maybe eleven game goal streak to kind of relax a little bit. But they do need to find that urgency Kramer, we talked about it. It's one thing to talk about it. But it's nothing to play like it. They need. Urgency. The biggest battle that shows me of a team is urgent or not is in front of the net. Are you battling in front of the net? For the second time in a row douse stars have out won that battle in front of that. And it started with genie. Ben again here tonight about Pat, maroon did okay on that on that top line. But the Dallas Stars realized that with the blues, adding a second third and fourth line that really has not been a threat shutdown that first night, and you could see that they really keyed in on those guys. And then when those other lines weren't generating anything in the defenseman weren't skating very well in a game. That's when they could really do that they had the psychological advantage that Puerto like we got this game. But the the best thing for the first line of the Saint Louis blues for Tarasenko O'Reilly and whoever the other winger is for them to have a good night. They depend on the three lines below them to be going up in weight because if they do that, then you're right. You don't have the match up in the head coach Jim Montgomery, for example on Dallas night. He doesn't really know what to do. But because the second third and fourth line again a little discombobulated. Here tonight that puts all the pressure back on the first line, and then they're gonna get the hard ups, and then really it doesn't really work. So for the first line there so good because it's a group effort from the first line all the way down to the fourth line. Well, what's up next is.

"Hockey League. Even some of the elite players can take penalties that are undisciplined, and that's what you want to happen. Mike, yo before he was let let go talked about. How this team wasn't taking penalties is team wasn't creating power plays. And to do something. Like that is good. They've done it. But you gotta convert in the fact that you made Montreal pay for taking that penalty is crucial because if you continue to find ways like that Montreal plays a different style of hockey game. If they don't feel like they can be loose out there if they feel like they're going to have to pay for taking a penalty on the blues. Power play. They play. A more much more uptight game in their more cognizant of not taking penalties and maybe make mistakes and other areas rather than teams have figure powerplays so bad. We go out there and player game. If we take a penalty will be right back into it on the flip side, as you mentioned, the blues converted a not sticky. Craig ruby said they're getting these powerplays early on in the game, and they're not converting and they're just momentum stoppers. It's actually breaking the five on five progress that this team is making. So for them to convert its big again, this is a results driven league. You can say that it was a strong power play or that you're gaining momentum announce all fine and dandy. But unless you convert it does it's not gonna countering that was the blues eightieth home power play this year. They're now fourteen for eighty well now fourteen for eighty one after a holding penalty he was sprung at the end of that breakaway Bennington with a massive save. And that's the kind of shave I think that at times when things go bad. And hurry. Whether it's the islanders game or or other times, Amy you need to save like data momentum save.

"That push. They thought he may even be a scratch here tonight for health reasons. But he's in this game. He's got the blues a little bit of a spark in response to the Craig ruby timeout. Stars take the bucket zone offside? David baron now points at eight games straight that ties a career long streak for him, by the way, and it just fifteen goal and thirty point. Baronne from portraying Gelo and gunnison. So the Saint Louis blues are on the board. Going on the fortunate fly after it rowdy fabric around gets checked down barks at the referee in the puck is coming out. Far-wing choose chicken in onboard twos. Oh sets up the plate for the stars straightaway. Two blocks. Let's it go high. And this one's coming around to the new year way into the corner. It goes off of. Joel Edmonson rolled down low the puck play Dharavi Fabri into Robert cortisol moves it into the front of the net. Is he had a battle to get that puck out? And he does on a nice play. Now with Thomas send it down into the corner of the blues repeal and backed on the change goes blind and grows a body. Checking garner Carrick now this one's coming out to the neutral zone. Fox's at center lost that practice Sanford wheels. It gets it on his forehead shoots it on. O'reilly and it which just why do they go both Easter pitches in the park guns. Loose cleared out the center, oh, I think if Ryan just one time in the back of the net and said he tries to take it to his backhand. Here's the neutral, zone, ofo Riley and the puck dumped in. David per on the parade slapshot run on goal, then he dumped Flynn Dallas. Sits on the need is side. What he's on the ground. Like that one goes after not Sanford he'll dig in Lindell's able to get back up and battled for the rock makes the play on it. And he finds it. Panther tried to take it back Lindbergh makes the play in the corner Sanford using long reach gets in on. It is play by Sanford strips at away the puck comes out and don't make the play at center ice. He goes over to the far wing eleven nineteen to go in the second period blues trailing three two one O'Reilly takes sit in backhands down into the corner out. There a snake goes speed it, but the stars there I played around passports but on out to the neutral zone. It goes Tarasenko picks it up stick candles to the red line brings it in over the blue line carries. Why shoots it into the far corner? Up to the blue line four. Portraying Gelo down along the wing for Schwartz is back to the next puts it in behind the net swatting after its shed now, come to portray Angelo leaves along the boards for Shenda Tarasenko shot towards the neck it goes wide. And portraying a lotta Schwartz in the corner. These checked on the play blues. Get back way lose corner. Corner. "Over with the head coach of the Saint Louis blues Craig ruby Craig about to become Rhode warriors for the team when you look at the upcoming schedule is it a roadmap for about the next two months, while definitely has to be, you know, we're really he'll gone like you said for almost two months come home for game here and there but back on the road again. So it all we just gotta buckle down. And you know, just you got to play, you know, a certain way on the road a lot of nights. And we we've been pretty good lately on the road trip a western good job there. So got to take that same. What's it like is a head coach to look at a young goaltender and say, you're getting your first NHL start off very happy for him. Obviously. He's excited. He's played. Well, he's done a good job in the minors. And he's been he's been really good. So he deserves it have you your team's five on five play over the last little while. Definitely I think we've done a really good job of minimizing shots against them creating a lot offense. And we've got to keep continuing to do that. Sixteen years and the the flyers organization either as a player or coach came in as a twenty one year old and spent so much. What does it mean to still come back into this building and into this city edgy and be part of a game of hockey? Whether it's with the opposition or not. Yeah. It's always fun. I mean. You know, like you said I started here as a player and ended up started here as a coach. This this organization to forgive me. The opportunity to do both great people here to work with and sorta. And you know, the the this town is just such a sports town. You know, obviously last night. I commend the eagles are playing. They win the Gabby will lucky, but it's just it's chaos here with sports. Do you remember coming in as a twenty one year old? I do not this Frank. In the spectrum. Fans are even more on top a great rink. You know, I was just like you said the top was loud. "Manager. And how about that for just a second here? The CEO the team does it run saying I'm talking to the owner. Well, you know, what if you're the owner? I I believe this. If you're the owner, and you want to say it said, you're the owner of the hockey team. We've got every dog on right to say. I mean, you're the you own the team, you can say whatever you want. He owner came out and said that he agreed with what? Yeah. Well. He after it was set. Exact how about you know, I'm not sure why that's coming from Jim lights in any way. I don't think it was right that common. Either comes from the owner or it comes from Jim nill. The way I see it. Again. That's that's just my opinion. But you got the Dallas Stars coming into town in that scenario. You got a chance to make some, hey, it's the feeling how you're gonna come out of this one because and you just you knew this was going to be a tougher one. You just didn't want to see it the way it happened tonight because of that feeling. Yeah. And I think that you know to your point about how it was said. Who said I mean, yes, those are details are important. You know, I didn't mind what was said. And I think that this. I know you're not saying I didn't either. I know what they're saying. And I like that it was made public. I think that at times this leaking get too soft. And I think we can be too soft on players and especially the superstars and and we're we're up here. Talking about the top line of the Saint Louis blues and how they need to be better me. Does it hurt if Craig ruby or your Doug Armstrong or som- Stillman, if they make a comment about, you know, I don't I don't think. So I think it's I think sometimes these players need to be called out. I think it's healthy. I think it can be productive. I'm going to be interested to see how Jamie Ben Tyler Seguin responded that I think it's going to be. I think they're gonna respond probably Sagan head an assistant. Nobody's score. But Sagan had an assistant. Yeah. They won five one. And that's the problem though. Here's here's the problem with how that was handled there, right? And I don't I don't disagree with anything. Joey Joe, I don't either. That not not saying. Okay. Well, did it work. I mean, I don't know. I I'll tell you what they would like to trade g Jamie, Ben of the Saint Louis blues. Take to it. I told Amy last night. Contract with Tyler Sagan at this point in time. But I'll take Jamie through what's left on bender and. You know, and that's part of the snag there now. And what you've got is. You've had you've had different media people kind of breaking down statistically where they were last. Yeah, they're doing this year and all that stuff. And and they're really missing the point when they're doing that they're really missing the point in in. This fact, check era that we live in where. People decide not to actually listen to what you're trying to say. And what he was basically trying to say is bay knee Jamie, Ben entitled taking the lead the team in the last few years. It has hasn't gone that way, I think you can make the same case for some of these top players for the Saint Louis blues. You can make the case right now for shins shorts. Tarasenko you can make the case for for portraying Gelo. I mean in all fairness, I know he's been out. But just overall when you're looking at the whole season, you know, as a whole you can make the case reject gal. And these are guys that are not living up to the contract that they've signed. And it's not the fact that the contracts are there. It's the expectations that come with it. Because what does it happen is saying? Okay. Well, this guy's got this thing going on in life. This guy's got this thing going on in life. Well, okay. So you got that thing going on in life. You're not you're not giving money back to to a general manager or a team. Right. You know? So there's you know. Yeah. There is a part, and you guys know me more than anybody. I make the personal side of things part of the understanding because you are not dealing with robots down on the as you are dealing with humans. But you know, I totally understand where a general manager or an owner can do it. I understand we're Doug Armstrong was a couple of years ago with the independent contractor, you know, comment things along those lines. So, but it'll be as I just, you know, I expect the blues to turn around and respond to you know, as I've tried to pull it back more specifically to Saint Louis here. But at some point time, I think guys have to actually just. Guys have to just come out with a little more fight. And I don't. I think it I I truly think it's in their makeup. I do I because I just can't can't think otherwise this season. Just went wrong at the start. And they haven't been able to consistently right it now, again, don't don't take this game as a big picture one. Because the blues of that are pretty good stretch of stuff here. But it's not gonna be enough to get you. You're gonna have to get that third game in a row, and that's going to have to become five or six you're gonna have to win nine of twelve win one nine of twelve and went from dead last in the conference to the third in their you know, in in their division, but it's going to take that kind of run. You can't have that kind of run. When guys are just not consistently bringing it shift in shift out, you know, when when you still when you still have to linemates for checking on the four check and you're going to the bench, and they actually win the puck. They look up and all of a sudden you're playing down a man 'cause somebody's changing in the second period. That's not good enough to the line changes are broken. The line changes are good. The line changes is a whole art sharp. You know, you've got guys. Wait literally waiting tonight twice standing at the door in the offensive zone. Waiting for somebody to open the door for them to get on the bench and one time it costs you because you ended up with the puck come back in and you got whistle offsides. I mean that is there's some fundamental stuff there that that is going and joy. That's that's just a mental focus of players getting it figured out. Yeah. I think it's just it's just players taking control. And I think that you can't have the fourth line being the aggressors. I mean, we saw the fourth line again. And I'm tired of talking about the fourth line. But there are the group whatever. I mean, I love the fourth line. You don't get me wrong. I mean, you know, whatever. But. You can't be talking about Jordan Nolan Barbara Shelvin sunk was playing with speed. I it's got to be those top guys. I it's just gotta be the ownership. It's gotta be pissed off in in in the spin this positive way. Sometimes things have to get so bad for change to really happening. Not that this is so bad. But this could be a moment tonight for special teams that maybe this is the game where boom something happens. Maybe there's a change. Maybe someone gets thrown out the first problem the second someone the second is on the first one, and maybe that chemistry comes back. Maybe we see Pat maroon back on that first unit because sometimes it just you had to dig that big hole for change to really happen. But it's going to start with. I mean, I I hear exactly what you're saying. What I I don't understand. How it hasn't happened already? How some of that that aspect of things have have gone now. Robby Fabbri is ready. Ravi fabrics coming off. I are Robbie fabrics playing expect him he and Robby Fabbri I'm saying it now, I'm I am not. I'm not. Putting words in anybody's mouth. Yes. This is one hundred percent my payment Robbie batteries in the lineup. I was gonna say on Saturday. I don't think that he a Monday idol on Monday. Right. I don't think that he actually should be going in for anyone on that fourth line. I agree. Thank you dropping off final game sheets. I don't know that I need that the. No, no. But like seriously, I I'm leaving at fourth line. They're they're delivering what you want. There's somebody in the top nine that doesn't deserve to be in there right now. That's the that's that's that's where it's got to go. I like what Jordan Nolan brought I like what he is brought since day one is just get the puck in its goal. And it's created I like what Chris Butler, but it is not when this these six guys have been out there this year defensively the team has not been very good. And I can't explain it. I really can't. I don't know if I mean. Yeah. You had tough starts of the year for for boom Easter and portraying Gelo, that's that has been an all around good pairing. But I wasn't the problem altogether tonight here like those guys it come down with Gunderson got back in there. Okay. Now those guys come down a bit with Butler enter, but you don't why. Because those two guys are predictable. Yes. And they played basic games. I mean, Chris Butler was moving puck as quickly as any defenseman out there for the Saint Louis blues and joining the rush, and it this this grouping of six just doesn't seem to have it in anyone that was parked in front of the blues net gunnison and Butler were on them cross checking them in the back until they got out of that area. I'll have to go check back on the tape. But I believe a minute ago. Chris Cooper said I really liked what Chris Butler, but he did. I heard it that you said you like. You did say. This brought I really liked Christmas. Right under the bus. Always have your partners and enjoy comes in see Chris. But..

"Tonight. Well, wait a team is struggling as the blues are and you they do as a team their in a desperate position where they need wins. When a lineup starts working like it is now our coaches more open to keeping it the same. Even if it defies what looks good on paper. I think that it's old school mentality. Where if you win it's not broke don't fix it. And I think Craig brubaker summarizes sounded a lot more proper did and Amy if it's not broke don't fix it. Have you ever heard that one before maybe you should try and get rid of the eight word watch it though that your knowledge. Why don't you use the past participle, then you've got to be correct there? It was. No, I think I think Craig Ruby's he's an old school coach. He's he's rugged as they get. He's very blue collar. And and and this is his mindset the team's winning. And even when we're not winning for playing a certain way, I think he's going to continue with it. Now, if we lay in a in two nights from now, they lay a against the Rangers on New Year's Eve, then that's maybe where you become in. But it's gonna be interesting because if you like the fourth line, then you gotta move up. Okay. Well, someone in the third line who's coming out. I'm not touching that sterling right now at both maroon they're flying high. And I mean, do you take Alexander St. now, you take someone on the second one? "So get yours while supplies last at participating on the run locations. Kerber also hanging out with us here in this first chunk of the intermission report and curves just kind of a recap from what we talked about the last break. Well, yeah. And and I gotta make sure I get this stat, right? Because they butchered it up for for everybody. This season abuse have four one goal wins. Great all four of them have come in their last six wickets. Right. And so what we're talking about the way the team is trending. All right. You got some key saves from Jake calendar. They had a couple of good chances. They had four or five odd man rushes. Now, they weren't with high-speed, but odd man rushes where they had three onto or you know, and and those are gonna have to cut down on now is Craig ruby was talking to us this morning. The key for this hockey team is is to cut down again in the and he pointed out that top line to. I mean, you you saw two turnovers from that Tarasenko line at the red light. And and they did that's a that's a line. That's just going to have to be better than that. When it comes to that. But we're that type of play is seemed to bite the blues more than other times has been in the second period. Yeah. For whatever reason it seems to kinda grab them there. So this is going to be a key focus here. I think for the Saint Louis losing Craig ruby specifically talked about that the gap to the I got you lakes back underneath you. You hadn't yet. Nobody was on the ice for four days. You got you handle morning skate. You're back to game action. Some people may go. Hey, you're only offer four days as well. That does that does impact things a little bit. Days off. Well. It's not like you practice for four days in between games. They didn't have escaped on for the most part. It is a bit of a different beast all together. So the ability to learn how to play within these one goal games is really important to the Saint Louis blues. There's no doubt about that. And look Amy ten shots on goal from the Buffalo Sabres in that first beer and a lot of that was what just mentioned the turnovers and you saw Jake Allen come up huge. And there was an element. We've talked about the season you need your goaltender to make that same. That's the save that can turn the tide and he did that three or four times in that first period. Yeah. You know, I think the one that stands out perhaps we'll stand out to fans is the save on Rasmus.

"John Kelly, welcome to a special edition of behind the bench with the coach Craig ruby. And I thought today and tonight we will talk about some of the coaches Christmas memories. And also, we'll check to some of the blues players, including Carl Gunnarsson and Chris Butler, and my partner Darren Pang and get some of their memories from Christmas and coach I know you grew up in a small town in Alberta. Was it a big family, and what was Christmas light for the rubies? Yeah. My dad, both my dad, and my mom had have big family. So there's a lot of people around. Like, you know, we lived out in the farm and my dad is brothers live. There are a lot of kids around. And you know, it's just a bunch of get togethers for about three or four days or Christmas. And celebrate this happened fun. So a lot of great meals. I would assume any favorite that you would always want. We had Turkey all the time. Yeah. Real good meals, and you know, some hockey to we'd go down to the rank and are the out on the back pond and play games and hockey and stuff like that. So it was a lot of fun. What about any special gift? She got as a kid under the Christmas tree, probably a hockey, stick skates, para gloves. You know, there's nothing but hockey hockey hockey around there, but. Mostly stuff like that. You know, we're sports oriented family. So anytime as a kid for me when I got some that had to do with a sport, I was pretty happy coach. Now, the blizzard chorus have been offer a few days in your resume play tomorrow night. And is that going to be a tough game? Not because it's. The opponent. It's obviously a good team. But you haven't been on the ice for a few days. So now you come back and play a club that obviously hasn't skated as well. Yeah, it's tough. I mean, I think it's about managing ice time that game, and, you know, just energy energy levels will be important. And so we'll just watch for them during the game and stuff coach. Obviously the blue is on that Los road trip. They went to lose three. And the inconsistent sorta continues you you've played better of late the last month. But I is that going to be sort of a New Year's resolution for twenty nine hundred is to try and be more consistent. Yeah. I think it's coming for. Sure. This, you know, the last road trip we went to of threes pretty pretty good road trip coming out to a west plan these three teams, but definitely have to keep pushing the consistency. Because you've got to be consistent coach. Thank you very much and happy holidays. Thanks, John you too, okay. That's the head coach Craig ruby. "Getting back to that. Zack. Sanford goal. A k when he gets called up. He starts on that first line. He had tremendous success right out of the gate starting that Toronto game on that road trip to the east, and then you kinda fell off a little bit and under Mike, yo he's been dropped down the line up to the second third fourth line kind of bounce around like a pinball and Craig ruby took over the dorm right back on that first line with a Riley and Tarasenko they've been responding. Some of that magic we saw earlier in the season Easter check down by Saleh, Ocoee, and putt goes over to schmaltz. He'll fire it out to the neutral zone.
