"There is a natural letdown. We saw the letdown during this recent series. They were awful and they were not awful because they played this way all year. They were all because they realize what we're done. We're dead and you can see that so to me. There is the difference between those teams and teams like the royals and the pirates. And the orioles. They're tough because they've been playing the same level caliber quality all season. It hasn't been good enough to get into a playoff position. But it's good enough to beat these guys on any given day and you're looking at a team or teams that have been in it now. Fallen out of it. That's a little different for me. So i i'm not sure what the state of mind is going to be for the race when the yankees play them. I i know they're obviously in the playoffs. They saving guys You know integrity to game says but we've got to play everybody. We gotta try hard. I don't know if that's going to happen. So the red sox get in and i agree the other two i i. I don't know the answer. Blue reacts i have no idea. I think you're right about the mets. By the way it looked like watching those two games like they already act like college kids ready for spring break hundred percent they were in a bad place it but you know now look. The padres could end up in a bad place. Reds should end up in a in a mentally bad place the the phillies will will play important games here the rest of the way but you know there. There were those teams may. Maybe maybe the as there seems to be a lot of pride there but again you you gotta you gotta recognize that you take that. Knockout blow in. There is going to be a natural letdown. And then maybe you puff your chest out and try to finish strong. Think everybody expected that they would probably win the american league central this year and they did in a walk. How dangerous today on a scale of one to ten for you going to be in the playoffs it would. It would really depend on their pitching. I think though score the offense is is really dynamic. The dodgers and i think we'd have to put it the other end of the scale. The white sox straight for craig kimbrel. Because i know i thought at the time they got him boy and established all star reliever perhaps a future hall of famer joining bullpen which was already good liam hendriks and quite frankly craig kimbrel has not been what they thought they were getting twenty games nineteen innings five point six eighty eight walks and thirty strikeouts tonight. Just if they're put into a role whether or not a standing at the edge of the plank with an opportunity to save. They're just not the same craig. Of course what now. everyone's like. Oh the older. All this is back. Kimbro could go out in the last ten days. Have three great outings and be all primed up and ready to go in the postseason. But if that doesn't happen. I am going to be curious to see how he's used by by tony. Larussa in the postseason Give me some thoughts in the cardinals. Who what a crazy comeback win yesterday. Against walking brewers they just keep rolling down a half dozen and goes because you are twice and wainwright who's been so good doesn't have a good game which will again lead but the cardinals have good news. You know visions of something really big and really impactful something that could really change the entire dynamic of the division race in the wildcard reysen. Well that really didn't happen. I think there's a lot of folks who took the to moves the reds made with their bullpen adding three relievers. and it on some payroll. I think many view that as maybe a precursor of something big to happen. I think it is fair to feel underwhelmed. I think it's fair to feel disappointed. I think it's okay. I also think it's fair to believe that this team still has some upside because you know what good thing really happened today. The schedule which gets easier here of the final couple of months. Well just got even easier. The minnesota twins they play them next week traded dudes jose barrios gonna pitch for them next week the pittsburgh pirates who have been awful all year long. They've gotten worse traded. Adam frazier traded francis rodriguez. They got games coming up with the chicago cubs who they've already kind of kicked around this year. The chicago cubs and the cincinnati reds played six more times. They've got a ton of games still with the pittsburgh pirates. They have a ton of games still with the washington nationals. For at least at the same time they do have games against the dodgers who got better in the white sox have gotten better white. Sale on sunday is better than having him throw him in the minor leagues. How much of a difference could a healthy. Chris sale make in the american league spectrum. And i'll preface or my questions you as well I just talking with red sox people at the yankee stadium over the weekend. They think. Sale look spectacular. They have slow played. his rehabilitation haven't pushed in didn't try to go too fast and he looks great. Well i think the red sox being as good as they've been perhaps even better than most of us thought has gone a long way at enabling them to slow play him because they really don't need him right now they obviously want him but they really have not needed him. The obviously will at some point here over the next few months buster. He's he's been out of the game so long. But i needed to remind myself how dominant this guy was. All you have to do is look at some of the top of the all time leaderboards the all time leader in strikeout rate the all time leader in strikeout to walk right and if you recall for most of chris sales career he has been just utterly dominant through the summer. But as we've learned in september. October sometimes he will fade. He just doesn't have the body that enables him through two hundred fifty dominant innings every year. That will be an issue now. Christel can come in. He can start the race at a mile. Fifteen and sprinted a finnish in a way that we know he can so the stuff absolutely looks like it plays up. I watched i like you. Rizzo rizzo to to plug first base for the red sox for the next two months before he becomes a free agent campbell to help that bullpen. That team for me hembo would be the favorite to win the world series. Wow doing the whole thing. Okay so to me. That definitely puts them ahead of the white sox. In the american league it puts them as the clear favourite within their division. The astros team. That i still really really like so. That's the club. But i'm gonna keep by on but yes of course kimbrel plus rizzo. Plus sale equals a much better team than they have right now and right now. They're obviously amongst the contenders to do it. I still think that in order to win the world series in twenty twenty one. You're gonna need another pitcher or two that misses a lot of bats. That's been the one thing that's really average in that area. Christel obviously goes a long way in helping them do that. But i still think when you when you look at teams that have been successful in recent years. They're going to need to get out from their relievers. They're gonna need to have those guys miss a bunch of bats. Which makes craig kimbrel make perfect sense for them in theory. I suppose but that to me is the one area that i would prioritize for them. And if that means passing on anthony rizzo or another position player. And so be it. Well i'd say this. I think anthony. Rizzo makes her pitching better. That's a good argument. We had asked you. You know ask you to look into this question before and had loved to members are in terms of digging balls added in the dirt success. They've had how many errors they've had throwing. Because that would be something where i think brazil would help the rest at infield. No no doubt that it's a good angle because especially with the guys on the left side of that field. That's definitely another cause for concern at this is far from a perfectly constructed roster and beyond the bat that result would be able to provide a key scooper to playoff series. Could make all the difference when you're when you're as good as the red sox are you can think about things in the margins like that. Perhaps they will handle great to talk with you. Right you got the yankees braves phillies raise reds blue jays. Mariners brewers red sox all of those teams have received below average production at the center field position and recently a report came out that John hayman of mlb network said that the phillies yankees and astros are all interested. In the miami marlins outfielder who seems likely to be traded so startling marty certainly a name we could add to the room sphere out here of guys potentially being on the move and martin the phillies makes a ton of sense just as a phillies fan. Perfect fit for this ballclub but the yankees looking to make a push. The astros could use a bat. So it's certainly going to be a bit of an arms race when it comes to potentially add in star lamar tek another report out. There says that the twins have not yet indicated to other teams that they are willing to trade players under contract beyond twenty twenty one. Espn buster olney.
