"Would someone mind shooting the man handcuffed to the bench? But I think it's reductive to sort of assume that they're not capable of more than this, which is part of why I find this, which is just to me a lot of fun action. And again, I enjoyed this movie while I was watching it. But I want people to bother to put characters into movies because even in stuff like the fast and the furious, even in stuff like James Bond, that are focused on action and spycraft and things like that. You can create stakes that involve people's humanity. In the Daniel Craig Bond series, the warmest relationship in those movies is between him and Judi Dench. And that's what I was thinking of when we get alfre woodard for just, you know, I think two very effective short scenes, she's wonderful. You did say you were gonna quit. It was her life a few places. I clung to the ones I had. Was? Three months. Optimistic. If you utter anything remotely sympathetic, I will shoot you. That was another thing where I was like, oh yeah, I like taking this piece from this other movie and putting it into my collage over here. I think it is telling that we all like the handcuff bit so much, which is definitely the kind of thing you could have done working on a television budget, right? There's all this valley who about this is the most expensive Netflix movie yet yada yada yada. And we took these russos who were working in community working in television where you have to be very innovative and solve problems and work quickly and then gave them the biggest budgets ever approved for movies to make these four marvel movies. I think I would have liked this movie four times as much if it was made on one fourth of the budget. And they had to be a little scrappier and you know because it sounds like the most expensive pieces of this are the ones that we cared about the least, right? That airplane sequence, terrible. Yeah. To me, it also just comes back to the issue that I've had with so many movies these days, which is that so much of it does look like it's done on a green screen or it looks like it's been edited this way and taken through a sifter and just turned it into this very bland looking animated piece that it shouldn't look like. I mean, we did an episode on Michael Bay's ambulance, which I am not going to say is a good movie by any means. And I also found it kind of grating in some ways. But what I did appreciate about it was it was very heavily reliant mostly on practical effects. When you hold something up like that up next to something like this, you know, there's a final showdown between the Chris Evans character and the Ryan Gosling character. And that showdown is supposed to be done at night and then the sun is rising. It's like the sun rises like 45 minutes during the 30 seconds that they're trading punches with each other, which is in the hedge maze from The Shining, by the way. In a hedge base. But that is a really weird shot. Like it's funny that you guys both mentioned that because when I saw that, I was like, wait, is it morning? What is happening? Yeah, it goes from night to morning very quickly. Is it the North Pole? I honestly wondered if that was supposed to be like a time lapse thing or just like this fight lasted 90 minutes. Yeah. I don't think they really thought about it.

"Sure enough he's in there fucking jumping and kicking. He's doing his thing. Do these, this is an interesting point, because Scott Atkins is like, he's a YouTube action star. His stuff is fun to revisit that. On YouTube. But like, are the movie's good? Are they worthy they're not? Yeah. See, this is the undisputed movies are good. Those are like genuinely good movies, but some of his other stuff is like, I don't want to watch the whole movie. I just want to watch when he did the kicks people. Yeah. When he runs up the guy's body. Okay, remember this is why you have to have him in there. Remember in the matrix when morpheus and neo are fighting the first time and Keanu does the kick where he kicks him like three times on the way up? Yes. And then comes down. Scott Atkins does that in real life with no ropes. He runs up. You can watch it on YouTube. He was fighting this giant guy and he kicked some kick some kicks him and then comes back down. He was like, incredible. He's like the do you remember the NBA player Anthony Randolph, where he's like, he's got all the tools. You know, I remember Anthony Randolph. He had all the tools. He was an athlete. From the bullies get bullied. We bully the bullies. Okay, here's a tricky one. Daniel. Oh wait, that's Zach Randolph, that's Jack Randolph. You're thinking of a different dude. Who is the Philly Michael Jai white is really the Zach Randolph of this list in many ways. You know, he's just so powerful. So overwhelming, powerful and beloved. Yes, you know, by purist, basketball purist, love Zack Randolph, action movie purist, love Michael Jai white. And rappers in Memphis are terrified of both Zach Randolph and Michael Jai white. We all are. Daniel Craig. He's James Bond in a number of films. And James Bond is our most reliable action franchise in the last 50 years. Where are you out on Craig? More than Mission Impossible, more reliable? I just feel like it's got a longer track record. I prefer the Mission Impossible movies myself. But there have only been 6 of them so far. And so it's a little bit tough to measure that against the dozens and dozens of Bond movies. And I think particularly the Daniel Craig Bond movies are well known for being really hard knuckled. You know, like with real well executed, not just big explosive set pieces, but a lot of hand to hand combat, you know, Daniel.

"Thought that We didn't. I don't know how to surname but the bond girl from specter this leah's So she's a woman played mallon's won it. I liked her intro ramming mount ramy rabie. Alex ray malik character but rainy malik just isn't a bond villain for me. He's better than ounce. Blow feld is better than a green but still not good. He's just done it for me. He's an awesome actor time and somebody. I wanna see more things. But he just doesn't land. The motivation doesn't really fit because he's not noticing or angry. Basically just hitler which is an awful comparison but that's not anything new. I mean the russian guy was taunting. No me and say. I can eradicate your west african culture in like heartbeat god. That's that's really dark a lot white hitler. So link the we've we've had plenty of movies with hitler's villain before. I did not really want them to turn it this way but they did. And that's really the only comparison. I can think but that doesn't make it a good like a good deal has better motivations than just you know that. Yeah so. I've sat on this for for two days now. Usually at right my reviews. Today's after just so. I can realized statement. Think about it for a little bit So i'm pretty confident in in my score for this one and what i feel about it. So would you think. I okay so we went to the new theater to watch it. Go not new but a different theater. it was. It was like a theater in like shopping mall. it wasn't bad but there was this dude behind me. And every time they crack a joke in the movie he had like the laugh. You know what i mean. Yeah so every time like every like fifteen twenty minutes when they say something sort of funny he's like i was like oh dear god and then there's one woman to my left. She didn't turn off her phone. And you could hear the stupid android notification like the me one..

"Number one villain like historically but they could never put them in movies until the rights were retained or something like that until the students got a hold of the rights to use the name. Specter that kind of like why quantum was a placeholder and then it turns out. That specter is the puppetmaster for quantum i think is what it was. I don't really. I didn't get that deep into the lore. I didn't have a timer brain cells left to devote to this. Because you're right at five movies two hours a piece at least british people people. Yeah it was just not a good movie i love. Christoph waltz is an excellent actor and they tried to replicate his work in inglorious bastards here and it just didn't translate blow fell just isn't strong enough character like his character in inglorious bastards was. I can't remember hans. Lambda sounds right. He fell through for me. Yeah yeah hans landa. that's what it was he's just. You can't replicate that. Just on a whim that's a once in a lifetime. Lightning ball type thing so no time to die. The the main of. That's the main course. Oh yeah so. I went and saw this saturday. And you you just. I saw this hour go two hours ago now. Obviously a lot of things went on with this movie. It's been done for like two years. Long movie delay delay and is a long as movies. Two hours and forty five minutes. I think james bond has left active service. His piece is short. Lived when felix lighter at old friends from the cia turns up asking for help leading bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with a dangerous new technology. Let me pull up my whole synopsis. The whole synopsis. I really i really like how the bond franchise it went from funding terrorist groups to now. How every single sort of worldwide threat goes to biological warfare naturally naturally of course..

"And let's see what else he's done a. He does a lot of different things. It looks like he hasn't done a whole lot. I guess it's about a movie a year. Which i don't know how that he's in dune he's playing still gar induna. That'll be fine. He was in Pirates of the caribbean dead mental. No tails captain salazar captain salads. I liked him. yeah he's just. He's he's awesome. I i think he's a great actor and he was a good bond villain. Thanks a lot to be a good bond villain as we've known or as we come to find out because the the the green guy from quantum asala sucked the villains inspector. I mean i love. Christopher watson will talk about spec during his second play he sucks. Is this kind of ill in just not. Yeah so sky fall. Definitely one of the better ones very thrilling. Yeah and i liked the they involved dame judi dench as much as they did in this movie especially because at the time. I didn't really do movie research. I didn't know that this was supposed to be her last wine But i thought it was. It was well done how they you know gave her character and end you know. They brought her in and they. They introduced gareth. Mallory row fines character Well and made him seem like you know. He's got his way of doing things and they're going to be different than the way that an was doing things previously but still made him likable at the same time like that. Shootout scene in the In the courthouse where he grabs the gun at the end when he walks in on q. And tanner and land the fake trail for silva follow. he's like well then hoping. Don't get caught. You know it shows that. He's not afraid he's not so by the book he'll break the rules when he needs to. So i i liked that. It definitely made me appreciate his character a lot more than when when dame judi dench character 'em died and he replaced her. I felt like it. it worked. Well you know introduced him. Made me dislike him than like him. Give him a good character arc to round out to make me happy that he was going to be. Am i feel like he can be a bit of a hard ass though. I'm not gonna lie. I liked the the other m just a just a bit more not a whole lot more but her death was really. What's the word.

"Catcher doesn't really mean much to me. But i know that she was pivotal in the old versions of bond and this movies directed by santa mendez who has directed a lot of really really good movies in my opinion So he turned a road to perdition nine seventeen Let's see what else Ajar head american. Beauty's not really looked on super favorably anymore because of the whole Seven casey person don't really want to mention his name. But yes sam mendes mixed mixed good movies and this one definitely had his style. Because i i liked his work in nineteen seventeen. I could see how he volved from sky fall into nineteen seventeen and then It just it felt like spies doing spice stop. That's the biggest cabinet. That i can get it. What would you think guys stifle. Oh it was a it was really good. It didn't feel obviously. It's still a bond movie but it's i feel like it in a way it could have just been. Its own thing like it's a spy spy movie. I like the other ones before this like. They were spy movies but they were more like like action. Spy movies is like spice by one. This one is a real toss up for me between sky fall and casino royale but it was really good. I really enjoyed this one. And i really liked. Yeah like you said the introduction of of q he was he's a i i really liked you especially in the later movies and.

I always have just my hips more than anything. Because my hips are always super type. Yeah i mean. I go light with my lifts nowadays like i don't go heavy anymore just realized a long time ago. It's not worth it to being a thousand pound club. I'd rather have orm and do more reps than fewer reps. Have your way. But that's just my my mentality especially just like. There's no via trust at the gym despite me. And my gyms in idiot everybody sucks about me Nothing really super crazy. I watched a nightmare before christmas for the first time. I haven't seen it either. I'm not really big into claymation. Never really have been it's good It's not directed by tim burton. It's written and produced at least produced by tim burton. So it's technically tim burton's a nightmare before christmas but he didn't direct it and ashley's a huge tim burton fan. She probably her favorite director. She seen every one of his movies except for batman in nineteen eighty nine. She bought watch that one. I don't blame her. it's actually. It's actually very fun. All batman is nineteen eighty-nine with michael. Keaton and jack. Nicholson as the joker and billy dee williams as Harvey dent. it's awesome but it's It's an interesting timeframe for batman but a a a nightmare before christmas is is actually very good. I think i. "Majesty's secret services like a bum out when you get the end of it and the fact that leaves him. You never made another bond movie fascinating nevertheless. Who's a big fan of this movie soderbergh. Oh of course. I act when he used to blog. Remember those days along thing. And and especially about sean. Everything you mentioned about how it's cut in and shot and the action sequences but yeah the this is like a cult. There's a whole group of people for whom this is a cult favorite. And so i read. Whenever it's most recent anniversary stay interview plays and be and i just got the opinion that he just really didn't care about being james bond or really anything else related to it and just like walked knee even interview diana reagan. She's like yeah. He didn't really seem particularly interested in or the movie. Which i i mean. I guess that's a flex to not be interested in diana rigg. Yeah i mean it would be cool. I want let's not make soderbergh cleanup anybody else's messes again. You know but someone like that doing a one off while they're figuring other things out would be cool. It's a fun idea okay. let's keep this going. Amanda what's your number two suit minds casino. Royale which i was surprised was not on either of your less only jet only to be interesting to i. Would've it would've been if we were trying to not smoke. Craig movies and so i mean it's interesting now because i think i was more pro like pretending a defense or against of something else and now. I don't really know what to say. I think on the internet among the fans. This is often like the cult favorite. I remember a lot of people. Were very mad when we did scaife off ables instead of casino royale to which i would say number one. We don't pick rewatch bulls and number two. I would say this movie is not shot by rodriguez and also it has an action sequence bodies exhibit. But it just it really. Does everyone forgets it. Just like an extended sequence at the bodies exhibit beyond that. I think it's pretty excellent. And i feel feel bad in the first. Half of this podcast. I guess we had craig fatigue and fatigue for this era. And it's always hard to end things but i like i've loved the daniel craig bond era and i you know i discovered it discovered james bond. A younger age and pierce brosnan was the person that i kind of my introduction to the world of sean connery and this franchise but the dino correct franchises when i was like oh look at the possibility. And look what you can do with this kind of outdated ip and look what you can do this character again when you have someone who can act and i think it is interesting to say what if we explored this person as a person and had ideas and just do this same fund set pieces all over and over and over again or that we could do more. I think sometimes the more has not worked. See the last two movies i think. Sometimes the more really does work in the case of casino allen the best berlin stuff i mean even there. It's true she comes up everybody. They've just really been flogging it ever since but god in the context of casino royale. She's she hasn't been easy in casino royale. I think i for more like the way that the marvel movies treat like. What happened in new york as if that's like emotionally resonates with the people who watched it like vesper. Sadly is one.

"Bong but to become a double. Oh it takes two. How did he die. Your contact not well. Why second is yes. What an installment in a long running movie franchise gets things right. You tend to know it right away. Consider casino royale. The twenty-first james bond film in the eon productions series released in two thousand six and starring. For the first time as bond daniel craig the first thing we notice the mgm columbia studio logos are in black and white intriguing though not the most radical thing in the world then the movie itself starts still monochrome starker darker recalling something more like nineteen sixty. Five's the spy who came in from the cold than pierce brosnan's immediately preceding couple of pictures to say nothing of octopussy in this first seen bond has the jump on trader waiting for him in his office. The mole is played by a snide malcolm sinclair in their tense exchange. We learned to surprising things. This bond has just been promoted to double o. seven. He's recently made his first kill a brutal bathroom beating. That's fed to us in snippets during the conversation with the ruthlessness that cuts the scene. Short bond commits his second kill as sinclair sits on armed at his desk. Cut back to that bathroom. Where bond spins round to deliver the lethal bullet to the first skill and the screen narrows around him in the series iconic gun. Barrel shot familiar but also thrillingly different in two thousand six. I was mostly indifferent about james bond. Atom bond was a relic from childhood which i regarded with nostalgic affection as a daily film reviewer. The run of pierce brosnan movies had begun to feel like professional obligations then casino royale and i was back on board. Still am after this revisit which was particularly interesting coming on the heels of the other bonds. We've been watching and discussing unpatriotic sean connery's from russia with love roger. Moore's the spy who loved me timothy dalton's the living daylights and pierce brosnan's goldeneye compared to those entries. Adam what would you say is the most distinguishing characteristic not only of craig's bond but of casino royale whole I don't even know where to start with that question. It's such a good one. But there are so many aspects to craig's bond. I think we could start with and actually this movie was reviewed back on film spotting in two thousand six sam was our host then co host josh. Not just our producer so he sat across from as i recall. We both were fans of this movie. And both fans of craig. I look back at my notes from that conversation. And i said this is just kind of funny talking about fifteen years later. I suggested that he is a more believable. Interesting complex bond which we need in two thousand six so bringing bond into i guess what i was thinking of the modern era our our current time thousand six well in twenty twenty one. I think that's as true as ever if not more true and you're right that everything about that opening sequence sets the table for setting up a new take on this character. I like the way you phrased it familiar yet. Thrillingly different this idea throughout and we'll talk about a lot of these aspects. I think there are many ways that the movie decides to subvert our expectations bond. But it doesn't do it in a way where it seems like. That's the glee of it. That that's the purpose or the intent of the movie. Let's have as much fun as we can. With this relic. Let's thumb our nose at the series. No it's not about thumbing your nose it is about establishing this new character and maybe we'll get back to that opening sequence a little bit more later. I wanna talk about craig and answer your question as best i can. I think the most significant difference with craig versus all the other bonds is that the movie establishes him as quote unquote a blunt instrument which is apparently how fleming originally thought of james bond again. I'm not familiar with the source material. And it's not something that's informing at all my take on bond or on craig's bond but that that phrase and i think m may even refer to him as that or very clearly suggest that's what he is. That is something different than that kind of very debonair. Very smooth bond. We have always seen there. Is something just a little grittier a little more dangerous a little scarier a little more human or a lot more human about craig's bond than the other ones we've seen including going back to when we talked about from russia with love and connery is just really leaning into the movie star aspect like bond. Is this movie star. Figure in the movie knows. It's kind of winking at us throughout. I'll give you a couple of examples and there are so many we could talk about the distinguish this van from others. But in that opening chase sequence the big set piece that starts with them getting the phone ellipse and just destroying that entire construction zone right there few moments that really stand out to me that clearly martin campbell. The director wants us to pay attention to and their moments like the one where we see the guy he's chasing who's very fleet of foot and is very athletic and is able to jump from one perch atop some construction zone onto some other landing and when he does it. It's perfect everything about. It's perfect in bonn does it. He stumbles and he. He's barely able to hang on and has to pull himself up when he jumps over a wall unlike the other guy who just kind of like a cheetah jumps over it he of course is a little bit more human. He's still james bond. He's still incredible physical specimen that's the other real defining characteristic of craig's bhatt obviously but when he jumps over he kinda comes down with a thud and then has to start running again right or he just brakes right through the wall. And that's the other one. That's that's the best example to support my case right where they're running through this building that's under construction and the guy he's chasing somehow manages to just kind fly through an opening and the next thing we see is bond chasing after him and he just goes right through it. He doesn't have time to mess around..

"Or did you do hello mother. This is jim baker. My husband jessica chastain there as tammy faye bakker in the eyes of tammy faye which opens nationwide this weekend. Andrew garfield co stars as jim baker. Tammy's husband who people of a certain age like us josh. Remember as one of the most prominent televangelists of nineteen eighty and nineteen eighty. Nine baker was sentenced to forty five years in prison for fraud. This movie is directed by michael showalter. Who made the very good two. Seventeen rom com. The big sick. The eyes of tammy faye came up a couple of weeks ago. During our fall movie preview. You have seen the movie and as i alluded to. We lived through the eighties. The bakers were inescapable in popular culture. At seem does the movie convinced that there is more there was more to jim. Tammy faye than we remember or what we saw in parodies from the time i mean it had to for me because my only point of reference was jan hooks portraying. Tammy faye bakker. On saturday night. Live visiting the church lady. I think phil hartmann was was jim baker. Actually so i didn't really know much beyond that of the story. I mean would have been a little kid at that time. And so yeah this was interesting to get some of the background info a lot of it drawn from the two thousand or two thousand two documentary of the same name. The eyes of tammy faye haven't seen that one. But from what. I understand both at end this i can attest to very much rehabilitation projects. You know to to say that there was more and of course there was more to to this woman than what we saw on saturday night. Live or in news. Reports jessica chastain as tammy faye is going to make you believe that no matter what. She is the powerhouse force in this film. The reason why i liked it. I think overall as a movie. It's it's a little strange. It's both really obvious like hitting its themes and points very underlying them like she on like her makeup his underlying. You know but at the same time it's also kind of thinly developed. There are things we wish. It explored further or more deeply. So the material isn't great. Here but chastain is tammy faye does something. It's curious adam you you know. I've talked about this. How this is the sort of performance that i normally would bristle at where it's it's it's really big. It's an actor going through a physical transformation. It's geared for oscar attention right but but why it works here is because that all lines up from what i understand of the real life. Tammy faye bakker this. This is someone who had a peppy. Cheerful bright public presents the entire movie. Adopts that and chastain does to. This is almost like you're you're experiencing this movie. What it would have been like to live through the fame and the failure of this ministry through her is how she would have seen it and how she sees herself. So it's really a galvanizing performance. I couldn't help but admire at the end. I even started thinking that it it kind of reminded me of. We've been going through a various sort of loose joan crawford marathon at home. Maybe you know movie every month or so here with the family and it did remind me of the ways crawford could kind of just takeover a film that dared caster and a lot of times. These were films about women who were at their wit's ends or or facing societal expectations that they wanted to upend and so it was interesting to see chastain. Do something similar here just grabbing this movie by the throat giving it a fierceness that kind of aligned with what you understand tammy faye bakker might have had underneath all that niceness that she presented so so. I think it's definitely worth seeing for chest pains performance which i think is probably what intrigued both of us about the project to begin with. I hope to catch up with it soon. The of tammy faye opens wide this weekend next week on film spotting we kick off our twenty twenty one who've review last year. It was christopher nolan. This year we consider the entire filmography of new zealand director. Jane campion with a series devoted to all eight of her feature films including her latest the power of the dog which comes theaters late november and then to net flicks in december. So that was really the impetus besides for me wanting to catch up with these films. Most of them blind spots for me. It seemed to set us up well to consider her new film which has gotten all sorts of acclaim coming out of various film festivals including benedict. Cumberbatch is performance. Our first campion will be sweetie from nineteen thousand nine which is one of those blind spot for me. I know it's not a blind spot for you. It's made a least one or two top five louis over the years including i recall top-five female directed debuts. I think you had it at number five. So you must think sweetie is a pretty good start absolutely. I think i probably went on a bit of a campion kick after the piano. I'm trying to remember when i would have. I seen it. It definitely would not have been in eighty nine. So that's probably when. I first saw it but cannot wait to revisit it. As part of this who've view sweetie is currently available. I love the way you say that. On the criterion channel and available for digital rental more information about the campion oeuvre view is film spotting dot net slash campion. Also next week we prepare ourselves. Vialli some fun josh. We prepare ourselves for the end of the daniel. Craig bond era by revisiting. His first outing as 007. Two thousand six's casino royale for its fifteenth anniversary. You telling me you don't consider the card counter fun. i'm saying. It's a little more grueling. Josh just just a little tougher sit. Maybe then casino royale. This also helps prepare us for daniel craig's fifth and final bond. No time to die coming out here in a couple of weeks. I've already done my homework. I was inspired to rewatch casino. Royale for the first time since two thousand six when it was reviewed here on the show by our recent film spotting family bonus content. Discussion of sean. Connery's second feature as bonn from russia with love. And i even then followed it up with quantum of solace which i now think. I was too hard on back when that came out. I'm all in on craig as bond you are and i've mentioned i just don't know how you could argue. There's a better bond at least a better bond than the one we get in two thousand six casino royale so i look forward to watching it again here in preparation for this discussion will see what you think of it. I mean i know you haven't revisited. Timothy dalton or pierce brosnan so. I don't know how you can be so presumptuous. Such claim craig bob until you do that homework. Adam yeah yeah. You got me there josh. That brings us to our latest deeply. Flawed film spotting pull. That is trademark. Don't worry it's registered. We couldn't help ourselves with daniel. Craig going into bond retirement. We had to join the cacophony of voices posing this question. Who should be the next bond now. Before we share the options we provided a few things. We consider him by we. I mean mostly our producer. Sam i think he spent about three days on this full question so tortured. Poor sam was so tortured and yet and yet for all the thinking that went into it he still got hit with all the accusations of who overlooked all the mistakes he made. That just comes with the territory. Sim sim knew that when he took the job that he would be in peril. Not unlike bond himself. So i we did go with all brits. It just seemed. It seemed like a bridge too far to me. Josh to be throwing an american into the mix as james bond call me. Call me a purist. Nobody wants that no. We did also try to keep age in mind. We're not going to see another bond movie for what three or four years. Most first-time bonds have been in their early. mid thirties. connery was thirty. Three craig was thirty. Eight roger moore sixty seven. I think the joke goes. We did however include a couple of actors in their early to mid forties so again flaws abound a name. We left off our list. Someone long disgust as perfect bond. Material interests elba. He turns fifty this year. No yeah we decided to old. Wow good for idris. Elba a just here on film spotting would james come after it's a beat our atlas. Yeah well you know that he will and that he certainly could so there were a lot. More considerations will jump ahead here to the options we gave you the idris elba less options we gave you for. Who should be the next bond josh. Those options are -rism ed..

"Faye or did you do hello mother. You know

"Mention for a preview back in two thousand nineteen. We're finally getting to see it. And if you wanted to why i would physician this movie as potentially one of my favorite movies ever made. Here's david erlich in indy. Wire i'm just gonna read you a couple of phrases. A triple layer met a romance zephyr calm story of loss love and artistic reclamation i mean he had a triple layered met a romance. And then you go to the full on synopsis. A filmmaking couple summer retreat to the idyllic island that inspired their hero bergman blurs the lines between reality and fantasy and their own relationship. I'm not sure this movie actually exists. I think someone just took it out of my brain and said oh what movie will adam give five stars to. Even if he doesn't see it and you have the plot synopsis for bergman island. That is a high expectation. it is right. Tim roth and vicky kreps. Both talented actors are the couple. Me of us kab ska also in it. Mea hanson loved. The director herself does appear in the movie. Though i'm not sure in what capacity and there's a part in the trailer where his character says something like you realize we're going to sleep in the bed where they shot scenes from a marriage and then you get the punch line. Which is i think we're gonna have to find another bet right and it almost makes even though. I don't think the movie is going for this at all. The trailers suddenly doesn't suggest it. It's almost like a horror movie setup or some kind of psychological thriller we know this house is supposedly haunted but will brave it. That's all nonsense. We're volatile married couple. Let's go to bergman island. That'll be good for us. That'll that'll recall our love. Yeah perfect couples. Therapy going to bergman island. The island here in question is the island pharaoh where he made through a glass darkly and shame and i think persona built a studio on the island to film scenes from a marriage. I think all total made six features. They're the tv series and two documentaries about the island itself. Lot of history here. And i think that gets kind of what my true question about. This movie is. Here's another that from david. Ehrlich in india where he says while the iconic swedish artist is amusingly inescapable and bergman island is films are name checked in almost every scene many of which take place on the exact spots where they were shot or in the house where he wrote them. This supple puzzle box is more interested in him as a means to an end. So that's that's what i really want to explore and discover as much as i'm geeking out as a bergman fan and a fan of movies about movies and meta movies and i will say i trust that ehrlich is probably right. I trust hansa love as a filmmaker as well. So it's not really a question of kimchi. But how will she juggle all that name checking in the visual measures to make something that doesn't feel suffocated by the weight of bergman and his legacy october fifteenth is when will find out when it hits select theaters. I mean how good to see. Vicki crops back on screen to and this sounds like i think she's very good in old. The shamlan fell but it doesn't really give her what we know she can do based on phantom threat. This sounds like it'll be a little bit more up that alley so can't wait to see it either. And i will note that of course with my number two pick. I talked about jessica chastain and next week on the show were planning to talk about the card counter with oscar isaac oscar isaac and jessica chastain re teaming as a married couple previously in a jc. Chander film here. they're back as a couple in the. Hbo version of scenes from a marriage. That's coming out. I think in october. And i love the original series. One disgust by sam and me back on a way long forgotten episode of film spotting to see those two actors wrestling with this material is something. I am eager to see so add that to my fall. Movie preview can't wait for scenes from marriage on. Hbo those are our top five questions about the fall. Movie season josh any titles. You haven't gotten too many questions you want to throw out there. No leftover questions. i'm looking in my rankings. Of just what. I most anticipating. I can give that real quick so french dispatch would be number one followed by dune. And then tighten the julia duke or no follow up to raw. Raw was a top ten list for me. Can't wait for that. The impeachment ponderosa coon film with tilda. Swinton memoria that's coming out before thanksgiving i believe and then my fifth most anticipated. And you know. I might have the dates wrong on some of these. But i think passing. Rebecca hall's adaptation of the nella larsen novel that one i did read not too long ago is fantastic Believe that is out shortly here. Starring tessa thompson and ruth negga. So yes just some of the titles. I'm in general really looking forward to our producer. Sam is going to give you a point for nailing the. We're coon which i can't say. Nearly as well as you obviously you you did call it titan. And not teton which he busted my chops for the other day. Why didn't he put out a red alert. I know he should add it on spotting pronunciation guy but pronunciation guide. Okay i think he wanted you to fail. T wants you to look at this. I think it's going forward all right. That's what that's what. Sam noted french speaker of that. Do porno film i alas did not rank my titles even though i definitely thought about it and after the french dispatch which is clearly at number one and yeah i really after revisiting. Some of these recent daniel craig bond films really do wanna see. No time did i. Of course yes. I'm curious as well about dune. Red rocket might be the other title. We've talked about it here on the show. Because i think it played a fester too but the latest from sean baker definitely among my top five most anticipated films of the ball. We love to hear the movies..

"Wrote a movie review column for the local paper that i worked at and it was. I was so excited for this movie. Nolan gets nominations for the film and all the technical categories but it didn't invest director and it didn't get a best picture it deserve. Both it deserves to win. Best picture if you're telling me slumdog millionaire which won that year's a better movie than did dark. I will fight you right now. In the main streets of el segundo. Let me tell you something. Though slumdog millionaire was great not better than the dark night's sleep dog millionaires. An incredible millionaire is pretty incredible. I think that year. I was ben. Button guy. memory serves the record for thirteen. Nominations frost nixon mill. Says we meet in the middle on. God's heart what come on ben button that gets me but naveh chance. It did not have to not have a chance that night but but you know heath ledger. The performance a builds to a crescendo. patient performance. It's not lao you i am. I the guy who played the original joker. On the first batman adam west one cesar romero went to my high school intercollegiate collegiate. Really and who didn't go to your a power forward who could go twenty that performance. The joker so big so showy so loud on the tv show and either with jack would rejected with it in the tim burton version. It's such a loud performance. Heath is subtle and it's disturbing it's brooding and it's can self contained then boy when he walks away from the hospital exploding. Yeah yeah and you think just chaos has taken over this and that had a real funny moment which i don't think was scripted. That he played with he played with the buzzer. And it didn't work the opening sequence. All those guys lets you know that. He's ruthless hill hill. Assassinate the people who are helping him would take the money. It's a show just gives you gives you insight into madness in what you said though about the character not being over the top. There's something to be said when someone talks to you and very just relaxed tones. I can pro wrestling as we talk about. It's always about the guy you know. You wanna yell. Electric ponant know what you're gonna do. But then you had a guy like jake. The snake roberts who was already like intimidating carry the snake and he was very calm and he would look into the camera and he would tell you what he was going to do to you within with. Ddt and he never had to raise his voice and he was very like matter. Fat welcoming you into the mind of madness. I went through a lot. So you know it's like so when you have that joker who's not over the top but it's just like oh man like this is this is frightening. And he's sitting there and he's he's been arrested he's in jail face you know he's getting out sitting there getting interrogated and he's just kind of you know looks loitering over the table and just brooding and you just know that starts the now. The mayor is kind of oddly. Cast the mayor with the eye. Shadow is kind of like doesn't have a may oriel this disposition you now. You're really like and i guess he's kind of a soft mayor so that was maybe some of the intention is to kind of you know. He's lost control. The city gotham in chaos. Commissioner gordon's really. The one who's kind of in charge things. I always thought that mayor was an odd casting choice but no one does a good job in his films with littering in the cast of supporting actors with some some some jarring casting matthew modine in the third one. There's some comfort there. I recognize him. I loved wind bestselling movie. The last year's private joker right. yeah there. There are certain casting things that nolan dozen his movies. Like michael j. white in the dark knight and maggie gyllenhaal that. Just work and yeah. It's it's it's a tremendous film still nike. You said should have got nominated if not one for you are at the press. Junket did the press junket for that which you know. Obviously it was was rather. There's some sadness that kind of permeated through the press. Junket because you know the the the awards run for heath which was a celebration of his life and his talents. I wouldn't come for two months. After movie came out in july so everybody kind of knows the one guy on the call she would have been there. The junket wasn't there. And i remember that being a challenge to kind of get through just avenue. Ask and talk about them and maggie being very moved. Obviously i mean. That's yeah it's i always at sundance. I remember the day. The news broke about his passing. And it's so sad and it's a father and that's the idea of what was to come. you know. I think that is the sadness as well as the life lost but adds to the to the to the or the film and the energy around the film And there was the line in the movie. Where they're you know. They say they were going to do this for a long time with each other. Yeah it's kinda. Wow and ben lines filling in for rich on the rich eisen show talking about the thirteenth anniversary of the dark knight. That was the last movie you went to first showing its opening day. You didn't dress up like bugs over the weekend for space jam. I remember seeing the first daniel craig bond at the first showing that day detail Pretty excited for that as well. Yeah so you know. I think i think with the dark night i saw the late show actually the night before the thursday night showing of snakes on a plane. Twelve o one thursday night into friday morning. I remember being very excited for snakes. I'm gonna go back and read. Some of these tells me he might have been a prisoner of the moment on a few of them. I won a main press association. Critics award here. he goes for ghost rider. Remember that terrible also covered the junket for that movie. I remember my key line at why ran through a bunch of weird nick cage trivia. Because what does this movie. And i also thanked mendez's cleavage. I think for happen movie that. Oh my return to the movie theater last week while we were off. What'd you see first time in a year. Last movie i saw was may of twenty twenty assaulted. Gentlemen oh Mcconnell mcconaughey is questions about that experience but twenty twenty. I'm sorry march twenty two okay. March pandemic founders showing. No no it was just guy. Ritchie is love him so march. Twenty twenty right before the. I think the week before. Everything went on lockdown. So and i saw zola movie last week. Zola lights do you know about. I saw it at sundance the two years ago now at this point started on twitter. Two thousand fifteen. This girl wrote a hundred and fifty tweets about taking a trip from detroit to florida to go Become an exotic dancer with the grossing just met at hooters and hilarity ensued in these tweets blew up over twitter. They were huge. Everybody was re tweet them. And i remember going man. This is a movie. And i'm gonna go see at one day so i was sitting around last week and i was like all right. I'm gonna see this movie. There was four people in theaters. So i was pretty safe in right. Yes it was like. Felt weird to be back in the theatre had been your weird movie too. That's a strange in your face. Nick braun from succession tariff florida character. After i mean it's it's funny but like i said if you read the tweets and you know the story it's definitely worth check- there is a story that went around last week that i saw people tweeting about trayvon. Free won the academy award for short film. This year tweeted out. An article is about three women who realized they were all dating the same guy. Hey so what they did. They decided to go on a cross country road trip to three of them like they became great friends and formed a relationship..

"I think jason bomba taken down. I think so too. I think there's more. Youthful kind of recklessness in that bond versus the connery and i used his spy. Work is one of the reasons why i think he takes jason bourne down where. I don't think we see as much of that secret service. I think he's more just kind of going through the motions in the film which is no lazenby full. It's all yeah. I think he would lose. I also think his brosnan would lose. I don't think daniel craig Lose okay you think dalton and craig would beat jason bourne. I think more and lazenby would lose. Yeah i mean okay. Timothy has that killer instinct is is like you totally. I can see it. He doesn't have the physical prowess you see of daniel craig bond. But i'll bet you if they had made those timothy dalton movies now he would have. It's just ninety nine thousand nine hundred seven film. That's not what they were focused on hugely in those in that era a lot of it is just like gunplay in movies right. That's what they were more focused on versus like. Yeah i would love to watch a roger moore versus jason bourne fight. I think it'd be low rolling around. And silly gags happens. Slide whistles he exactly that iran crocodiles try and get away and yeah ultimately it would be a quiet quick end. Okay yeah. unfortunately what about woody allen. David niven from the casino royale. Peter sellers or the fifteen other james bond movie. I don't. I honestly think. I could ever even try to answer. That question anyone's ever tried to answer that question. David niven versus jason bourne last. No yeah exactly. So i yeah i think that wraps up our bracket i mean were you shocked that bond one no. I thought we give them around from his money. And i also thought if palm got free he might give him a run for his money but ultimately. I think we've just seen so much of a back. Catalog of james bond of wages. No he basically deal with anything. Yeah so maybe ethan hunt just needs another twenty movies. And then we'll give him the prize or two black told. God help us drought. Triple triple-x xxx number. Say that's exactly what we need obama. Yes as you say is exactly new. But james bond is the man. He is alice by. And i think that brings us to an end so I wanna thank Become for having us. Most anticipated movies a 20 point. That's all they do is Yeah, that's all that's all they do, and they have only they do it this one time and then that's it. S o here, Number one, and I don't know if these were in order of the most anticipated. I think they're just all anticipated Nomad land. I've heard a lot about this. Um, it's Frances McDormand. We love her. Yes. It's Z. Film sort of like a documentary. But it Z not a document says After losing everything in the great recession, a woman embarks on a journey living in her van. As a modern day nomad. Okay? I saw a preview of it, and it looked really good, Morbius. Who's anticipating this? Not even me. Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Michael Keaton, Jared Harris biochemist Michael Morbius prize to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead. It's Morbius. It's Spiderman was villain, then ally then, you know, anti hero Uh, Morbius, the living vampire. And you don't. This doesn't do it for you. He was always kind of a silly see slash delist character. And then you get Jared Ledo and they're chewing the scenery. Who knows? Maybe it'll be good. I don't know. We'll see. Number three No time to die. That's the last bond movie, right? I love I love anyone moves used me the last. Daniel Craig Daniel Craig Bond number four. A Quiet place to Yes. Mm What this is. The first one ended perfectly And, uh, I seem to recall uh, what's his name? John Prison ski saying No sequel would probably not be good. Well, it's not though they're going to go back. Its not Z. They're going to go back and just following the events at home you have a family now faces the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown. They realized that the creatures that hunt by sound Are not the only threats working beyond he did say, I don't think it's equals a good idea until they backed a truck full of money officials house and then it became well, maybe we could. You know Emily could use a little something to do And but it's gonna be it's gonna be After the first movie and then flashbacks, too, before the first movie, So you're going to get John Krichinsky and the events leading up to it, But it's gonna jump to go back and forth Number five black widow. We all know what that is. Number six. This is for Katie. The ninth edition to the fast and furious franchise of which I saw one was the first one and that was it. This one does have You know, it's got then. Diesel, Of course. No Paul Walker Bill, but it's got Charlie's their own. Oh, I'm there. Okay? John Sena. And of course, the only acting that Michelle Rodriguez can possibly do is in a fast and furious room Number seven. Katie by those words Number seven, a movie that was made 20 years ago. Top gun Maverick wasn't about 20 years ago, but it's finally gonna be released. I'm excited for Maverick, You know, I'm excited for man. I didn't think you liked gay porn. Yeah. Number eight. The untitled Spiderman sequel. Yes. That title get not titled Yet Now it's just spike that's coming out this year, and it's not titled allegedly Coming out. This year. I keep having trouble starting and stopping production. But so you'll know the title of it here pretty quickly because Tom Holland is terrible at keeping secrets Number nine. He's another Tom Cruise. Mission. Impossible. Seven. Hmm. Yeah, I don't I don't care about that one so much. Why? Just don't I think the aisle I like the mission. Impossible movies. I've surprised that I like them as much as I do. Uh, number and number can the Matrix number four. I don't have high hopes for that. Because The movies that well, The Matrix was good. But then the next two were terrible. The first Matrix is a classic it Z really, really good and I just read it. Some excerpts from a dissertation. This guy just wrote that said that in the first Matrix movie people have it all wrong. The machines are the heroes. Hey, made an excellent case. I got to give him points for that. Here here. The movie about Matrix war is just described as quote the further adventures of neo and Trinity. Yeah. Well, there you go. So there you go. That's the list the most anticipated Movies.

"Any more push timelines on. I'm looking forward to james bond. The new james bond movie and twenty twenty. One whenever it releases gerald. I'm going to be losing my mind. No time to die no time to die man. It's one of the things that you know. When the billie eilish song came out for the bond movie. I just was nonstop on that song. I admittedly. I've been nonstop on billie eilish. She was outstanding. Twenty twenty and i mean really in two thousand nine hundred. And i think that's when. Where do we go when we fall asleep came out the her album. That song captivated me. I've always loved daniel craig's bond. Pierce brosnan was my bond growing up as a child. But daniel craig has been great you. My wife and i differ on a couple of movies. But i'm really looking forward to see how he rounds out his appearance in the franchise. Because it's it's something that i don't wanna say it's him but i think he's earned the ability to go out on it outstanding movie and i hope bond time today is going to be that again. Something that i'm interested in now. Craig was at first a slow burn for me. As far as being that bond. I could truly appreciate and i'm now grown to really enjoy the character. I think sky fall did it for me as it did for a lot of other people at the most successful bond movie ever. Because it's such a great movie and he did so well in it that i now look forward to movies outside of the bond universe from him. Obviously he's done with knives out and lucky logan. That was a really great movie. Really great performance by him. Heat really catapulted the movie or rogan organ. Logan lucky yeah. Logan lucky the steven soderbergh film who steven spielberg always seems to go on retirement and then comes out of it makes it always. Yeah so logan. Lucky was a a truly great film in his performance and it was good. So i'm definitely looking forward to seeing what daniel craig gives one last effort to the bond films because this will be the last time we see them in a double. O seven moniker. At least that's what they're saying that's what they're billing as last effort for him and going to transition to a new double o seven. Who will that be only speculation as there's a will have to wait and see on that one. But i am looking forward to the final effort for daniel craig in the role of james bond double o seven in no time to die but what else you're looking forward to in twenty twenty one man. I'm really looking forward to the olympics. I hope they actually get to happen. In terms of what's going on in the.

"So there's some things are starting to leak out about the new James Bond movie and if the rumors are true Daniel Craig's bond look for tires and a new agent is taking over as double oh seven she yes she is a British actress name was Shonda Lynch who co starred in captain Marvel and apparently wind is gonna have to learn to work with her in the world of hash tag me too here's the thing though I have no problem with a female double agent and and girls that kick but that's awesome but why not start like a new franchise starring her I just don't like messing with something that so iconic and then what happens to the bond girls most importantly hello I think I got now gonna get bond guys
