"We'll just get into it and starts with the soliloquy. That was the top five. But it was fabulous. Yeah. So I did the whole the whole show from back behind Andrew, where traffic. These are the joys of doing a live show, Live baby and doing them remote. But in this case, she was the only one work is it? It's like improv. Oh, it is. It is Well, we have a super packed show for All of you coming up at 10 33. We're going to be talking to see a Seattle mayoral candidate, Bruce Harrell. We did invite Lorena Gonzalez to join us as well. But we have yet to hear from her camp. But Bruce is going to be joining us at 10 33 and then also at 10 06. Are you confused about all this discussion about Ivor Mactan? So we're going to try to get some clarification on that with our favorite virologist Dr Angela Rasmussen, because there's all sorts of stories going out about ivermectin and the effectiveness of it and also the warning, So we're going to get to the bottom of that. But right now it is time for our top five news stories of the day brought to you. By economy fence and later today, President Biden is going to be announcing tougher covid vaccine requirements for federal workers and contractors as he tries to curb the surging Delta variant that is killing thousands of people each week and is jeopardizing the nation's economic recovery. CBS is Stephen Portnoy says the president is going to sign a new executive order that will include six steps the option of taking a covid test to skirt the mandate will be eliminated. The White House says. This will see to it that all federal workers are under orders to get the shots if they haven't already as a condition of their employment. Meanwhile, a morgue in Southwest Washington is getting so overwhelmed right now, it is asked the Cowlitz County commissioners. To declare an emergency there so it can get a refrigeration trailer to help handle all the bodies, The coroner tells the daily News. The morgue and area funeral homes can typically hold 45 right now they have about 65 at least eight of those deaths just over the past week or because of Covid and those patients ranged from 40 to 90 years old. Yeah, this is I mean, what a tragedy. I don't know what else to say about it. Other than that, And this could be not entirely 100% avoidable, but avoidable. Uh, if if people would get the dengue vaccine We wouldn't have this. This is what we were all worried about. When this When we first learned about coronavirus in Covid 19 is overwhelming the medical system and now we're seeing like we saw in the beginning. Refrigerated trucks for bodies. It's it's a tragedy it is and I know that we have all reached the burnout stage. Yes. And unfortunately Covid even the word done with it. Covid does not stand with us. Not concerned about time, so hospitalizations continue to go up. More patients are on ventilators here in Washington. The one thing though that is different. This is what I want to ask you compared to this time last year is that we're not talking about shutting down whether it's shutting down schools or shutting down businesses. You know why? Because of the vaccine. Exactly. The onus is on all of us as individuals to take action to protect ourselves. End up being on vaccine. Do you think that is the right direction to go? I mean, yes, I I think that's my first choice. If we're going to rank vote, we're going to rank choice. Vote. What we what we should do with Covid? Yes, Number one is Hey, on your own get vaccinated, please. It's the right thing to do. It's how we fix these things for All of the history that we've had vaccines and two is well, if not enough, people do it for the thing to work. Right Then I remember growing up and having to get vaccines to go to school. Measles, mumps rubella. If I wanted to travel everywhere, like we all live in a world where vaccines are mandatory, this isn't anything new. I just don't know. I don't know why people are being this way about it This time we'll each person has an individual reason and I understand that, And there's a part of me that that Sympathizes, especially with those who truly cannot get it cannot and will not are two different things haven't gotten to the so what happens to them. Does that mean they cannot go to any of these? Concerts and yes, it does. As long as there's things out there, that but see in in my mind, I say to myself, that's the reason I would get vaccinated to make sure that other people truly can't would have that opportunity is what about their freedom? All you have to do is get get a shot. It's that easy. Wear a mask. It's that easy, Okay And then and then it will be over. For some people. It is not that easy, but I will tell you last night I got an email from someone one of my favorite listeners who had told me Initially he wasn't going to get it, and he Is definitely afraid of needles. Sure that's really Yeah, it is. And and and you told me last night. Um maybe because of some of our cajoling that he is going to get one. And I'm really thankful for that. Great. Um, but the other thing that we had on that we heard of yesterday on our show we talked to Registered nurse in King County. Someone who has been Working as a nurse for over 30 years, and this is what she says they're dealing with in the hospital. Right now. We're seeing at least three times the number of covid patients than we've ever seen before. Even in the 1st and 2nd wave, we lost a number of staff members. During that time because it was just you can't you can't get time off. There's nobody to replace you. You can't take a vacation because there's nobody to cover you. So almost two years in, you know, we're not growing nurses on trees and if I'm, a senior in high school In the middle of a pandemic. Do I want to become a nurse? They just aren't out there and and we're all very tired. You could hear it. She had reached out. And then we heard from at least a dozen other nurses who were saying the same thing like we are tired, I'm sure And when it's the pandemic was at the beginning, everyone was treating them like heroes. Yeah, just so thankful. And now To get threats of assault They get just people are. Why are you giving me the horse De Wormer? Well, well, well, She mentioned that too. And I'm just being careful about not calling it just a horse. The warmer because we're going to get 1000 emails saying it is used for other hyperbole, everyone you're going to hear some hyperbole from me today. Blanket default statement. Okay, so oh, and you know, I love those blanket statements. That's right. But but in any case, I'm so Um I feel so sad for for people who work in the healthcare industry because they Have to keep working. Yeah, And if you can't I mean, what kind of care can you give? If you are completely depleted, right? Right, So there will be another reason why you would want to do your part. So kids under the age of 12, as you know, still cannot get the vaccine. But Cairo seven TVs Gary Horcher reports that is not stopping some parents from trying. The combination of kids being back in the classroom and the Delta variant affecting Children has some parents so concerned there, reportedly asking doctors to make exceptions and vaccinate their kids who are under the age of 12. While other parents are telling vaccinating clinician, their child is 12 when they're not when you look at the took Homa Pierce County Vaccine data dashboard, It actually shows you 48 Kids ages..
