"Like I say some outlandish shit now, but that dude was the originator of just outlandish shit. Just wild wild shit. Just I got a little The Godfather. I got a little bit of that Kirk from the I think it was the one that Tom did. He was talking about being a Walmart and this person started to raise the hell and popping out of Frick and square him away. Yeah. Yeah, I think that was I think that was mine in his that was my cousin J covina. I remember that. I remember because it was kind of messing with Jacob, your cousin and poppy had to step in. Yeah, he's some of my cousins in Mississippi are mixed because my aunt married a black guy, so I have some cousins, I don't exactly look like me, and, you know, when you're in Mississippi, doing anything, you know, you run liable to get run up by somebody to be honest with you. And a shout out to poppy, he spent a lot of time in batt rouge Louisiana, which is near about an hour and a half from here in about an hour and a half before I grew up. So he's been to the motherland. Oh, tons, times man tons, tons. He has so many stories of all throughout that part about going to football games. He'd go to like old miss games and then this game and he would like work the snack stand so that he could get free admission in when he was a kid. I'm telling you, and he's been on the road for like 30 years. So the amount of stories he has that bullshit people have fed them. I'm telling you, he's gonna have his own show. I don't care if I need a car about time in my life to co manage that show and even help him write outlines and stuff. I think there's a whole generation of people that would tap into what he's saying. No, I would. Definitely. Life on the road with poppy. I tell you what, that kind of resembles a good my life a little bit, you know, being going a lot for me, more at seed than on the road, but it's all the same shit. Yeah. So yeah, a life away from home. Yeah, you're just on the wet road. That's all it was. The ocean road. There you go. Exactly. Exactly. So when you and I want to kind of brag on you a little bit on your last episode, guys, whoever's listening, if you haven't listened to the half hours, watch it. Listen to that show. Push it the last episode. Because you dug deep like Afghanistan and the pulling out, you and you and Tom dug deep into that. So you like to tap into Tom's military service sometimes. It's cool too, man, 'cause it's something very rare. It's like say if you were in the navy and then she was like this professional axe craftman that made like these giant custom giant wood pieces..

These people want again is to go back to having blinders on and saint. We only want to talk to ourselves. We don't want to know what anybody else thinks. It's a secure feeling as long as you comply the minute you. You don't wanna do. You don't wanna comply with some role or something. It becomes matt so secure but they look at it as a time of security because most of them do see themselves as law abiding and all that kind of stuff and so i. And i don't wanna say the sixties where the worst but there was some things that we don't that we definitely would not want back in in presence who You know we don't. We just got out of a vietnam situation and people were complaining about how we did a good way to put on a war of aggression. I mean there isn't a good way. No i said every invasion in history has ended that way when the for the invader you have two choices you can either stay there forever and conquer and remain there forever or you can take your losses in runaway. Because that's what every invading a country has ever done. You look at germany. they weren't invader they. They got their ass. Kicked got at quarterback on The british when they were here we sent them on grind. You can't come out. You can't occupy another land and expect that there's any other outcome except running with the tail between your legs trying to get away from the people who you thought you were oppressing now rising up against to chase you out of their land as well.

It was disorganized. It was random, he said he they talked about many things, but did not talk about the issue at hand. "Of closing our schools and the need to get them reopen the other day. I was For a weekend and communicated with constituent whose father had died in Covina. And I said, You know, I'm surprised your father was still alive. How old was he? Well, his father was 99 years old. I'm going to say something that's gonna be radical. The death of a 99 year old is not worth closing school for a nine year old. Let me repeat that in case the press didn't hear it. The death of a 99 year old is not worth closing school for a nine year old. Okay, We need some proportionality to what's going on. We heard it. Virginia State Senator Chap. Peterson joins us now, Senator. Good to have you with us. Thank you for having made this push to get the schools reopened. When do you think that'll actually Again. They happen. Well, it's happening right now. I mean, what? While so, you having me on the program, But there wasn't a push to reopen the school. I'm sorry. You're right now. The push is happening. When is the school? One of the school's actually gonna get back to business? How much progress are you making? Well, I wish I had a clear answer to that. And it's been extremely frustrating. Extremely frustrating. Uh, you know, not not being able to get a straight answer from anybody. The sort of the goalposts are continually moving. And as a result, you know, I I wish I could tell people look were definitively going back. February 1st. We're dependably going back march 1st, and we just don't have a date yet. And so part of my struggle here, part of my my F Is to get a firm date statewide, not just in Fairfax County, but statewide that every child at least has the option of in person education. The option of in person education. That's my goal. So where is the pushback coming from? Is it coming from the teachers? The teachers union, the parents who is the holdup here. Who's the roadblock? You know, I don't It's hard to say, because I hate to use the word the system. But it is I feel like it's the system because you know the governor's office takes the position that they're no longer holding this up. There's nothing stopping the school district from opening. It's a local school division. The local school divisions look for the state for guidance. Which you know, did date. We're not giving the teachers air. Basically look, they're they're waiting for a strong signal, and I think everybody's pointed everybody else. And that's why when I spoke last week, and listen, my words were very blunt. And probably, uh, made a few people unhappy. I know it did make a few people unhappy. But I think at some point someone needs to stand up and say, Look, the kids need to be back in school. They need you back in school now, and that needs to happen. And we can't keep waiting on someone else to make it happen. And in the state Assembly, we fund the school system. So we do have the power of the checkbook and at a minimum, we should use that as much as possible. Senator Peterson, you made it really clear that there's been a lot of damage to Fairfax County schools and its students. For instance, some almost 10,000 students have actually left the school system entirely. Either moving to other areas or going to private schools. And additionally, nearly 10,000 students now failing when they were not before. How much worse could this get if we don't open the schools? Well, right now we're looking at an attrition rate. You name the figures of approximately 10% of our student body, and that's that's what we knew as of last semester, who even knows what's happening right now. Obviously, those figures can only get worse because these air families that have already exited the system. Um you know it, Z Look, I feel like It. I grew up in perfect city. I went to Fairfax High School, and we spent generations building up our school system to be the best in the state. If not in the world, and I feel like that is in jeopardy. I mean, it's become in jeopardy and I realized everybody all over the world dealing with the pandemic. I get that. And there are some really good people on the school board who are friends on do you know they feel like they've got their hands tied? That's why to me the state Assembly on to step up and just take a very clear stance on this, and, frankly, so should the governor. Absolutely. People want to see leadership. Parents want to know, you know. Can I go back to my job? How long is this gonna go on for that? Uncertainty is just so not fair to the parents, especially. But I want to ask you about kids who were at risk who have fallen through the cracks because it's this really hurts poor Children. The most. They're the ones who suffer the most, because they may not have two parents and homes. There's nobody there to make sure that they're doing their classes. Some of them made may not even have a home. Some of them may be living in shelters. Do you have any ideas to the number of at risk kids who have just fallen out of school completely? Well, the only precise figure I have is again we've got the 10,000 kids that had to arm or acts which to me is a pretty strong proxy that they've just checked out of the system. As I said in my speed, um you're exactly right. I mean, families with means And my wife and I are very fortunate. We own our own business. We've we've We've had a good a good run. Um, you know, we can hire tutors for our kids, we can You know, I have an older, untold Her childhood came home from college. Basically, toe baby sit Younger child is going through the process so we can do that Our family can adapt. But, you know, we're a two parent family with, uh, you know, a good family income. So many fans. I don't know how if you're a single parent family, I don't see how you manage. I really don't. I guess you have to bring in grand parents or aunts and uncles. And that's the irony. Is that it least when kids are in school. They're in a safe place. They're in a place where they're you know, they're being fed. Uh, Their welfare is being checked on their mental health is being checked on when they're at home day after day after day, often time being supervised by somebody who maybe elderly themselves. That's the Leaf said. That's the least safe situation, in my opinion, and so that that's what's so frustrating to me. We need to have two kids in this in a safe place, and we're not. We're not mandating that right. Don't destroy people's lives and then telling them you're saving it. Chap Petersen, Virginia State Senator Thanks for joining us this morning, we'll talk to you again soon. Hopefully not too often on this subject would like to see the school's yester. "Is 2020. Was a year when more people died and Normal. Um Many of those were out elderly from Covina. That's clear. But there are also quite a number. That were Not elderly, and they were Not from covert. In fact, Among the extra death among working age people. Little more than half of them are not covert so there for sure. There's something else. Going on that's causing high mortality among working age non elderly people. That's for sure. The other thing. We're getting bits and pieces of evidence on now is that the drug overdoses even though they were high In 2019 18 17 16. They are even higher. In 2020. Especially, um, after about May, March or April. Over the big increase and Drug overdoses today. We don't have the data from the entire country. Yet for those parts of the country we have the data is very clear. A big jump in drug overdoses. Um In April and then another jump up in May and continued through the summer. Um You know what did that come from? Has something to do with the pandemic? I think the timing you know, April's not an accident. Drug overdoses aren't usually a seasonal thing, Um packed. I don't think they've ever been a seasonal thing. So What happened in April? Well, the pandemic was really starting to affect our lives. Um Did from people being alone that Indirectly or directly that the factor for sure. Um You know? There was also have been a lack of police. I know and I live in Chicago. Quite a lack of policing. Um, this Bring in summer. And so maybe that kind of let the illegal market kind of run free. And that that might have been a factor. Another thing that happened is very unusual in April in Maine through the summer. Woz. People lost jobs, which a lot but but that's happened before, and we didn't see drug overdoses. When people lost jobs. This time, people lost jobs and they were given a lot of money. Um And You know, somebody needs to ask the question. You know how many drugs can you buy with $600 bonus or we this'd not something the normal person does with their $600. But Maybe there were enough people doing that that that too became comes a factor of these air. Things will learn in the next year or two as we get more data. Nursing homes and healthcare workers are top priority for Covid vaccines

"Workers and nursing home residents expected to be first in line to get the Fizer bank seen enough for the general public not expected until spring, so public health officials are urging Americans to continue wearing masks. And keep their social distance from others. The federal Indian Health Service says it's allocation of the first expected Corona virus vaccines will be enough to cover 100% of its healthcare workforce. NPR's Kirk Siegler reports. Native Americans have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. The I just says it expects to distribute 22,000 doses of the first Fizer vaccine and 46,000 of Madonnas. Rear Admiral Francis Fraser says As the vaccine supply increases, tribes will then be able to prioritize distributions for elders and others with health conditions. They put them at greater risk of serious illness or death from Covina. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that safe and effective vaccines can reach Indian country. As quickly and equitably as possible. Native Americans have long suffered from healthcare inequities, and during the pandemic, they've been four times as likely to wind up hospitalized. Kirk Siegler. He said the Supreme Court quote really let us down. No wisdom, no courage. Trump had called the lawsuit filed by Texas against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, the big one that would end with the Supreme Court undoing Biden substantial Electoral college majority. But the court said Texas does not have the legal standing under the constitution to soup. For the past five weeks, federal and state courts rejected nearly all of Trump's attempts at overturning the election court. Electoral College meets Monday to formally elect Biden.
